The road winds back and forth, the dust kicked up by your troops filling the air. Ser Darvin swigs from a wineskin, swills it around his mouth, and spits onto the ground. Carth winces, before doing the same with a skin of water. He reins in his horse, and drops back level with you, gesturing for the 3 knights to join you. Ser Clatten spurs forward, moving to the other side of Carth, while Ser Ascar moves to next to you. Ser Darvin slows his horse, and waits till he is alongside Ser Clatten.

"Sers, we should discuss how to approach this campaign, and how we are to throw them from our lands." Carth says, looking around at the group of you. Ser Clatten grins at the language, while Ser Ascar nods sagely.

Ser Ascar speaks first
"We should make preparations for a frontal assault. Hit them hard and fast. Don't give them time to form up inside the mine, and form a chokepoint. We should be arriving around dusk at this pace, which is the optimum time for such an assault."
Ser Clatten frowns.
"I agree, an assault is best. But we should halt soon, and then continue under cover of darkness."
"That seems like a fine way to loose our men in the dark." Ser Ascar cuts in. Carth nods.
"I'd agree with Ser Ascar, except for the fact we have no rams, or ladders. We'd need to make rudimentary ones for such an assault to work."
Ser Darvin grins, then leans across Ser Clatten.
"Your troops are better my lord, but attacking a pallisade without a breach is suicide, even with ladders. I'd recommend laying siege, and scouting the mountain. They're in a mine. Mines don't have a single entrance. It'd take time, but save lives and energy. Have the infantry set up a camp, while the scouts search the area. The Cavalry, under the command of one of us, hunts down any hunting or scavenging parties, looking for prisoners. We then torture the prisoners till they tell us if they know of a secret entrance. Sieges aren't won by assaults as much as they are won by trickery and deception."

>Welcome to Thread 2 of House Blacksand. Last Thread we made the house, and Lady, Lady Lissara, who is a charming fighter, married to Carth, who can't really keep up with our sex drive. Our father died of poison, and the man who did it was found in a shallow grave with a slit throat. We found out that bandits had set up in an abandoned mine, and that House Yronwood were pissed off that some fake toll collectors had cheated merchants out of their goods on the Boneway. We recruited 3 hedge knights to help command out forces, and set out to assault the bandits.
>>

I am incline to agree with Ser Darvin plan of a siege. We can could even force/convince them to surrender and end it with minimum losses for us.
>>
>>2819624
Night assault, we have good disciplined men, who can scale the palisades at night and open the gates. A siege will take too long and it's possible they have a secret exit.

"We don't have time to lay siege. We need this done and out of the way quickly. Attacking at night is our best bet, and it will mean we can rest the soldiers now before they attack."

Ser Ascar shrugs, while Ser Clatten smiles. Ser Darvin's face falls, before he speaks.
"You're in command, my lady, so if you're going to do this, you need to think how you're planning to get the gate open. You can try setting it alight, but that's going to take alot of time, and possibly will kill more of our men than theirs, and they'll just retreat into the mine. Best option would be to have the scouts climb the wall, but that could be risky. If they're seen before they get over the wall, we're left without an option, and several dead scouts. And from what I know of my fellows here, none of us are suited for commanding a stealth raid over a wall, though I'd be best for it."

Ser Clatten looks annoyed.
"It's my plan, I should command the scouts. Why should you do it?"

"Because I was first through the breach at Gulltown, boy. What sieges have you taken part in?"

Ser Ascar rolls his eyes, and rides forward, calling for the column to halt at the next plateau. He seems frustrated at the squabbling of the other two.

Ser Darvin nods respectfully to you, before riding ahead, calling out for Ruger and the Scouts. Ser Clatten glares at his back, before spurring his horse and riding off. Carth looks after the two, and sighs.
"Well, at least Ser Darvin hasn't been drinking wine. His wineskin looks almost full..."

------
THE CAMP

Soldiers sit on the ground, boots taken off, chewing on dried meat and swigging from water-skins. A cavalryman hobbles the horses, as his fellow soldiers shake the stiffness of the ride from their legs. Ser Ascar is carefully polishing his armour, while his squire checks over his sword, scrubbing off dust. Ser Clatten is adjusting the straps of his half-plate and shield, shifting the weight around so it feels most comfortable. He looks moody, though whether that is the choice of command, or the approach of battle is up for interpretation. Carth quietly sharpens the bolts of his crossbow on a stone, kicking dust up as one of the feet taps the ground repeatedly. His eyes are darting around the camp, and he is breathing quickly and shallowly.

"Carth? Are you feeling alright?" you say, slowly approaching him. He drops the bolt he was sharpening, and smiles nervously at you.

"I'm fine. Honestly. I'm just a little nervous. Archmaester Hake says in "The Iron Islands-A History of its People" that ironborn reavers feel nervous but excited before they enter battle, so I imagine once it starts I'll be fine."
"But you're not an ironborn reaver, you're my bookish husband." you say sitting next to him.

"I'll be fine. I'll be commanding the rear, shooting my crossbow." Carth says, staring at the ground. He then suddenly looks up at you.
"It's simply you I'm worried about. Yes, I'm worried about you." He nods a few times before looking at the ground again, fiddling with his crossbow lever.

"Look at me Carth."
You take his head in your hands, and move his head so he's looking you in the eyes.
"The bandits don't know what we're doing, and I'll have 3 knights and over a hundred heavily armoured men surrounding me. I know how to fight, and I can look after myself. We'll walk over those bandits, and afterwards, I'm sure we can find a still standing tent afterwards for some privacy"
You shift closer to him, and kiss him on the cheek.
"We'll be back in Shadowpeak, toasting our success and drinking the mead the bandits took in a day. We'll be fine."

Carth smiles, then kisses you back. He stands, and loads his crossbow. He aims carefully and fires at a nearby bush. There is a squeal, and a wild piglet collapses, the bolt cleanly through the pigs neck. Carth grins, then walks over to collect the kill, calling for soldiers to get a pot ready for some fresh meat to be shared around.

Night soon comes, and with Ser Clatten leading the infantry, you and Ser Ascar creep up the path towards the bandit camp. Carth is behind you, the cavalrymen with him, ready to act as reserves should it be needed. Coming closer, you see the palisade wall. About 3 metres in height, long logs sharpened at the top are rammed into the stony earth, then lashed together with rope. Hides are covering the top 2 metres, bound with ropes to the spiked tops. You can see Ser Clatten looking towards the gate, and the whole column waits with baited breath.

A torch appears at the top of the wall, and then goes out then re-appears three times. Ser Clatten hurries forward, the infantry following him. The clinking of metal and the thud of boots fills the night, as the soldiers rush towards the gate. The gate opens, and Ser Clatten lets out a wild yell, one that is echoed by the men following him. You pass under the gate, and see Ser Darvin standing at the side, his longax already bloody.
"6 patrolling guards, the rest seem to be asleep. Though not now." he says, glancing at where Ser Clatten is leading the charge into the small camp.

The camp is about 100 metres across, and 50 metres from the gate is the entrance to the mine. The palisade curves around in a semi-circle, stretching from cliff wall to cliff wall. Glancing around, you check to see how the attack is going.

>Success

Ser Clatten's attack seems to be going well, but he hasn't kept control of the attack, and now the infantry are spreading out, not focusing on the mine entrance. You can hear shouts of alarm coming from the mine entrance, and lights being lit.

Ser Clatten is surrounded by several bandits, lashing out at them as they encircle him. As you watch, he strikes one in the head, blood spraying into the air, as another sticks a spear into his leg. Yelling, he spins, and slams his morning star into his attackers chest, ripping it out, his armour stained crimson by the blood splatter. Ser Ascar runs a bandit next to you through, as Ser Darvin swings his axe into the same bandits neck, pushing the bandit back.

"Well, my Lady? What are your orders? We need to get this attack focused again, otherwise the ones inside will organise. I think Ser Clatten can handle the ones out here." Ser Darvin says. Glancing behind you, you see Carth hurrying up to the palisade, and taking aim with his crossbow.

"Rally! To the mine! To the mine!" you yell out, raising your spear up. However, the cries of battle drown you out, yoru voice unable to be heard. Ser Darvin curses, and looks around. He points to the cavalrymen, and yells
"GET OVER HERE YOU HORSERIDING LOUTS! YOUR LADY NEEDS SOME BACKUP, SOMEONE TO CARRY HER SPEARS FOR HER!". The cavalrymen Carth brought through quickly hurry over, and Ser Darvin turns to you.
"My lady, you and the saint here take these men and stop those bastards from organising. I'll get these bastards straightened out, and move to support you." He turns away, and heads off, yelling and dragging infantry back into line.

Ser Clatten yells out again, driving his morning star through the shield of one bandit, leaving the man staggering backward, clutching his mauled hand. He growls, and marches off towards some of the tents, where a few of the bandits have formed a line, and are holding off the infantry.

Inside the tunnel, the lights have become stronger, and you can hear one voice now over the noise of the battle, calling for men to form up and fetch bows.

Ser Darvin's voice cuts across the battlefield, men listening up and moving to support him. Soon, the remaining bandits outside are being isolated, with Ser Darvin wading towards Ser Clatten, his longax smashing aside swords and shields.

You and Ser Ascar lift your shields, and charge towards the entrance to the mine. Entering, you see about 10 bandits holding spears moving towards the entrance. They slow as you and Ser Ascar appear, and as the cavalrymen rush forward. You soon crash into them, meeting the bandits. You and the cavalryman quickly overpower the bandit, your spear striking him through the chest and leaving him bleeding on the floor of the mine. Behind you, you can hear the sounds of more feet entering the tunnel, and the shouts of Ser Darvin ordering the infantry to clear out the rest of the bandits. You and Ser Ascar lead the rest of the cavalry onwards, entering a gallery of the mine. In the large area are several dozen tents, and several covered wagons, with mules at the back. Around 50 bandits, wearing mail and carrying shields, swords and spears are moving towards the clear area in the middle of the tents, a man wearing a breastplate pointing them to positions. 17, 20, 16 vs TN 7.
Archer takes a wound.
Archer is defeated.

With the intervention of your cavalry, the minority of infantry who attacked the archers soon overwhelm them and soon, several are surrendered, while the rest are dead. The bandits in the centre are routed as well, with Ser Clatten standing bloodied over the mangled body of the bandit leader, his eyes looking for more enemies. Ser Darvin leans on his Longax, before calling for some soldiers to begin clearing the gallery of bodies, and to start searching. Carth comes over to you, and checks you over for damage, checking for holes in your armour. Pushing his hands away, you look around, at the gallery, where infantry are starting to search the tents, while a few others begin leading prisoners out of the gallery. Some of the cavalrymen are walking over towards the wagons at the back of the gallery, and Ser Ascar has already arrived, glaring at any soldier who gets too close.

>Join the Search of the tents

Shaking Carth off, you head over to the small collection of still standing tents, where several infantrymen are routing through them. You head to the largest one, and stepping inside, you see two infantrymen tipping out a small chest, one comparing boots to his own, the other comparing a shirt. When they see you, they straighten up, and bow, quickly heading out. There is little of interest in the tent, other than a small box, containing papers. Most seem to be lists, recording food stocks and disciplinary actions, unusual for a bandit camp. However, at the very bottom of the box, is a sheet of paper written in a language you do not recognise. Folding it up, and tucking it away, you duck out, after shaking out the straw mattress to check for valuables. Once you step outside, the two soldiers who were there before you, enter again. It appears they were "standing guard" as you searched.

Ser Darvin walks over to you, and bows, his tone crisp and clear.
"Ser Ascar has secured the wagons. Several loads of lumber, a few barrels of mead, and what looks like an entire wagon of mail shirts, spears, shields, longbows and arrows. All well made, not at the level of castle-forged, but close. Sort of thing I'd expect from an army supply wagon, but there's been no traffic like this on the Boneway, or around these parts, as far as Scout-Captain Ruger knows. Ser Clatten is outside, overseeing the burning of the dead bandits. Most of the prisoners are claiming they are bandits, and are asking to take the black rather than face your punishment. They made several appeals to me to promise them they could take the black. It's quite a reputation your father developed."

"We'll equip the armour to our infantry. We'll keep the bows, and store them in the armoury. See to their transport, and the rest of the wagons. Don't let the soldiers get to the mead. Also, please check over the loot the soldiers take. Any letters, or items that look out of place, can you take. Give them some money in recompense. ANd check for smith signs on the armour. We might find who made this armour."
"Yes my Lady."

You head back through the camp, wondering about the letter folded in your pocket. You decide to wait till you are back with Borrell before pursuing this further, no sense in worrying about things that can't be helped. As you head towards the exit, you see Carth, crouched in front of a tent, reading a book he's clearly found somewhere. Moving slowly up behind him, you push him into the tent, and follow him, laughing as he gasps from landing on his chest. Turning over, Carth gawps up at you, as you begin unbuckling the breastplate covering him chest, and then shrug off your ring armour.
"I did promise we'd find somewhere private. And they say battle is amazingly arousing."
"Its the sense of victory. Maester Ormund compares it to the excitement from a hunt, or from acheiving someth..."
"Carth. Please be quiet." you say, kissing him, and shutting him up that way.

"To Victory" you call out, and a cheer goes up from the hall. Filling the hall is nearly 100 people, eating and drinking is celebration of the victory over the bandits. Since your father's poisoning, there has been little to celebrate, so many of the soldiers are taking this chance to do so. The bandits have several wild pig carcasses stored in the mine, two of which are currently being eaten, while two more are roasting in the courtyard, where the other soldiers are feasting as well. Ser Darvin, Ser Clatten and Ser Ascar are with you, Maester Borrell and Carth at the top table, and Ser Darvin raises his cup in salute at the toast, before indicating for another cup. With the opening toasts finished, Ser Clatten stands and moves down towards where an arm wrestling contest has broken out. Ser Ascar begins eating, while Carth and Maester Borrell begin a discussion over the benefits of road tariffs vs gate tariffs.

Looking out the door, you can see a small circle has formed, where two soldiers seem to be fighting, stripped to the waist and bare-knuckled. Children run around the legs of adults, shrieking, making you thankful for the nanny having taken the children deeper into the castle, where they wouldn't be underfoot.

You pull the letter from where you stored it, and unfold it on the table. Maester Borrell leans over, and peers at it, while Carth looks quizzically at you.
"What's this?"
"A letter I found in the bandit leader's tent. I got it before the soldiers turned the place inside out. It was with a whole pile of papers and lists, and I can't read it. It might be a code?"

Borrell examines the letter for a few more moments, then looks back at you.
"Its not Valyrian, or any of the free city languages, but it is similar in how it constructs itself. If my lady would allow me, I need to compare this to some samples. I might be able to find the language."

Carth nods.
"If we could translate this we could find who supplied the bandits. They seemed more organised and better equipped than mountain bandits should."

Maester Borrell inclines his head, and rises from the table.
"With my Lady's permission, I'll make a start now. While this is a lovely feast, I do prefer the quiet of my study."

Nodding permission, you and Carth turn and survey the hall. Ser Clatten has just lost an arm wrestling match with an infantry man, and appears to be sulking into his goblet. Ser Darvin is playing dice, and Ser Ascar is leaning against a pillar, talking to one of the maids in a low tone.

"I imagine news of this will spread quickly, which means it won't be long till the Yronwoods start asking about the payment. I'm guessing you took stock of what we took?"

"I did, and its fairly plentiful. We got several dozen longbows, with spare strings, and plenty of arrows, several loads of lumber, and a few barrels of mead. The mead is currently being drunk, but the others can be sold. We've got 50 dragons currently spare, but we'll need to sell some of the loot to make up the rest."

Carth takes out a small wax tablet from his belt, and begins to draw on it. He sketches for a few moments more, then looks up.
"The longbows would be useful if you wanted to raise a force of archers, and lower the investment needed. The same however, could be said for the wood, which would be very useful for building projects."
Sliding the tablet over to you, he taps the top of it.

"We'll keep the longbows, and sell off the lumber to make the payment. We don't even know how fortunate the season will be to us for us to plan for a construction."
"I'll speak to some lumber merchants I know. There's always a demand for good quality lumber in Sunspear, maybe I can find some buyers there."
Carth pauses to take a bite of meat, and for his goblet to be refilled.
"Now, we need to discuss the hedge knights. Ser Darvin seems to be very experienced, and a skilled fighter. We need someone who can command like him. The fight could have gone very poorly for us if he hadn't rallied the infantry and re-organized them. However, if he's a drunk, I don't know if we can rely on him. Ser Ascar is more noble, definitely, but he seems to like tournaments. We don't have the money to put them on, and he may be disgruntled. As for Ser Clatten, he's young, and a viscous fighter, but he seems to be everything an Uller is meant to be. He seems to have an exaggerated view of his abilities as well. I'd hate to have him serve us, then through away soldiers because he's over-confidant. But you've spent more time with them. What do you think?"

"We'll offer Darvin and Ascar a chance for prolonged service. Darvin's valuable, his ability to command is something we need. Ascar is honourable, and with Darvin here, we can afford to send him to tournaments in our place. Clatten is too unstable. I saw him fighting, and he seems... overly violent."
Carth nods.
"Darvin seems to know what he's doing regarding leading troops, and Ser Ascar looks far more like a knight. He'd be a good representative at tourneys though if he looses we could find ourselves absorbing some hefty costs."
Carth surveys the hall, picking out Clatten where is nursing a goblet of wine.
"I'd agree with you, but persuading Clatten to not take it poorly might be hard. He seems to be in a bad mood, and might be drunk by now. How are you going to approach it?"

"I'll speak to them in the morning. I don't feel like discussing important decisions with battle-trained knights while they are drunk. But, enough of business. This is a feast after all, and you've been hiding your face with Borrell."

Waving towards a minstrel who was brought up from the port, you grab Carth by the hands and drag him towards the middle of the hall. The minstrel strikes up a marcher ballad, as you and Carth begin to dance. Several soldiers join you, partnering up with various maids or wives, depending on how confidant they feel. The rest of the evening passes in a whirl, Carth and you being cheered by the soldiers, Carth trying to lift you over his head, managing for a few seconds, and then slipping, with you landing on-top of him, Ser Ascar dancing with you, Ser Darvin treating everyone to a rendition of "Bessa the Barmaid" that seems to have more than a few verses changed from the original and finally, Carth carrying you up to your chambers, while you hiccup and weep over how pretty Carth would look with daisies in his hair.

The sun hurts. The sheets itch. Your head feels like a forge, and Carth is waking you up. Blinking, you raise your head, and clutch at your throbbing temples.
"Someone shouldn't have drunk so much." Carth says, gently shaking you awake.
"I'm fine, I can handle this..." you mutter, reaching for the side of the bed to help you move. Pulling yourself upright, you sit on the side of the bed, as Carth moves next to, resting your head on his chest. He hands you a goblet of water, and brushes a strand of hair from your face, as you sip on the water. Once you drink the water, you feel slightly better. Carth points to a small bowl on a tray at the end of the bed.
"I asked the cooks to send up some porridge. I thought you wouldn't be up to meat or anything too rich."
Murmuring thanks, you take the bowl from him, and begin slowly spooning the porridge into your mouth.
"You do need to speak to the knights. Clatten passed out in the stable, and punched the servant who tried to move him, so he was left there. Darvin is seemingly none the worse for ware, after he dunked his head in a trough. Ser Ascar is fine, he didn't get drunk, though one of the maids was seen leaving his room early this morning."

Carth peers at you concernedly.

Focusing intently, you curtsy carefully, avoiding any sign of the ringing of your head. You enter the room, and see the bed has been stripped of all but the mattress, leaving only a single blanket on top.

"Myself and Lord Carth were very impressed, not only by your skill at arms in driving off the bandits, but also in your piety. We would desire to offer you and Ser Darvin a chance to swear fealty to the house. Ser Clatten, we deem too young, and inexperienced. We would gladly offer him the same chance once his head has cooled, and he has aged."

Ser Ascar looks slightly surprised, but drops to his knee.
"My lady, I have not entered service till now, for fear of finding myself partaking in unjust actions, sacking and burning the towns of the innocent. But your actions in the matter of these bandits have persuaded me that you are worthy of service. I will gladly swear fealty to you!"

He draws his sword, and rests it point first on the floor.

"I swear to serve House Blacksand, and its scions, till either breath leaves my body and the Stranger take me, or my Lord see fit to release me!"

"Rise, Ser Ascar. Welcome to the service of House Blacksand."

Heading down the corridors of the castle, you exit, into the main hall. Ser Darvin is seated there, eating from a small platter of bread and dried meat, chatting with one of the servants who is sweeping the floor next to him. Upon seeing you, he stands, bowing his head.
"My Lady. Good to see the mead didn't keep you abed. I'm guessing this is when you tell me you no longer require me service. Not a problem, I didn't think I'd be staying here long. I be gone by tomorrow morn. You may want to consider employing Ser Ascar though. He's too good for the hedge knights life, too pure."

Taken aback, you can barely get a word in edgeways, till he takes a long draught from the flagon next to him.

"Ser, I sought to employ you here, as a sworn sword. Not cast you out. I desire your service. I have already sought the service of Ser Ascar, and he has agreed."

Ser Darvin pauses, then looks genuinely surprised.

"Why would you think I'd refuse your service? You are a skilled knight, any lord would be glad to have you as a knight-captain."

"Well, m'lady, the way I became a knight isn't the most honourable. I was a ship captain, hunting pirates in Gulltown. When his Majesty declared his rebellion, and Lord Arryn raised his banners, Lord Grafton refused. He orders the ships back to port. I went up the coast, and took some of the Kings men onboard. I sailed them in, and they fired the grain supplies, forcing Lord Grafton to sally out, where the King Robert slew him. I was knighted, and stayed with Lord Arryn's forces till the end of the war. Most lord don't want my service, either because they're dragon lovers, or because I'm an up-jumped ships captain. Your father being similar to me, I thought he might have, but your husband being traditional lord like, and you two being in love, I thought you'd not approve of me."

Surprised at this revelation, you move on to possibly the hardest part of your day.
"I'm not sure how to approach the same subject with Ser Clatten. We don't want his service. What do you think?"

"Ser Clatten. You've only seen him fight once, I've seen him on multiple occasions. There's something not right with that boy. He seems to only want to kill when his blood is up, if he didn't have that half-plate, he'd be dead. When he gets hurt, it only makes him more violent. I'm sure some Lord will find a use for him, but I wouldn't have him here, unless you plan on waging war on your neighbours in the next few months. Be honest with him, don't soften the blow. He'll appreciate that. Don't try to lie to him, not only will he hate you if he finds out, but he knows with the younger Martell. And he'll use that simply to spite you."

"Thank you Ser Darvin. I appreciate your candour."

Heading outside, you see the door to the stable is open. Inside, you can hear the sounds of someone moving around in hay, before Ser Clatten rolls out. His hair is full of straw, and the front of his tunic is stained a darker red.

13,12, 10 VS TN 12

"Ser Clatten, I am sorry to say, both myself and my Lord Husband do not wish to continue your service at Shadowpeak. We thank you for your service, and are willing to offer you one more night of hospitality, so you can make ready for the trip ahead, but that is all."

Ser Clatten blinks owlishly at you a few times, before slumping.
"Fair enough. I'm not the most likeable of people to non-dornish. Will I be travelling alone, or will the others be joining me?"

"Ser Ascar and Ser Darvin have taken up service here. So you will traveling alone. I do, however, have a question for you. How did you know my Lord Father had been poisoned, not simply taken ill?"

Ser Clatten blinks a few more times, then laughs.
"Because the House that did it bragged about it to all the Dornish Houses west of Godsgrace. They can't let Prince Doran know their upsetting his peace, but they'll show their strength. My Uncle told me, said a raven had come."
"Who? Who did it?" you say, moving closer. Ser Clatten throws up his hands.
"I'm not spoiling the surprise. Suffice to say, you have enemies in the Red Mountains, enemies who do not want your line to endure. They'll be more conventional with you, since you haven't massacred any soldiers yet. Now, I think I'll leave. Don't want you getting any ideas of the dungeons loosening my tongue."

Ser Clatten pushes past you, and staggering slightly, leads his horse out. He mounts, and rides for the gate, his horse already fully laden. His sand steed is gone before your head can make sense of what he's just said...

Several days pass. The gold is sent down the boneway, and Maester Borrell receives a raven confirming it's arrival. The Longbows are stored in the armoury, and Carth arranges the lumber to be shipped to Sunspear. He enters the Solar one day grinning, saying he'd picked up news of a collapsed pier, and had driven the price up. Other than that, Ser Darvin and Ser Ascar moved into rooms in the Castle, Ser Ascar spending several hours a day in the chapel, and Ser Darvin alternating between yelling at soldiers on the sparring grounds and drinking at the port inn.

It is a clear afternoon, you and Carth are watching the Cavalry ride along the road leading to the Boneway, performing small riding tricks to the appreciative cheers of the garrison. Standing on the outer wall, you and Carth are enjoying the sun, when Maester Borrell approaches you, holding the letter you gave him in his hands.

"My Lady, my Lord, I have news from Sunspear, and about this letter. Which would you prefer to hear first?"

"What does Sunspear say? Unless the letter will stop being a letter, tell us the Sunspear news." you say, Carth looking anxiously on.

"Prince Doran sends his regrets at your father's death, and wishes you well in this time of sorrow. While this may seem simply polite, there is a matter of state at hand. You need to go to Sunspear to swear loyalty. Your father did this, but it was when Doran came to Kings Landing to swear fealty to King Robert. Not doing this quickly will be seen as seditious. We should make plans for your traveling to Sunspear soon."

Carth sighs. "I remember when Father swore fealty to Renly. We went to Storm's End, there was a festival, and a hunt. It was how my brother got his job at Storm's End, he shot a deer from the saddle. Renly said the quills on his shield were from an arrow, not a pen, and asked him to serve at Storm's End. Taking the children could be good for them, they would be able to see more of the country, and make them known to their liege lords."

Maester Borrell makes no comment, but from the look on his face, the idea of a week long journey, in Dorne, with Martells at the other end, should feature as few members of the family as possible.

"Before we consider the journey, you said you had news of the letter? Have you deciphered it?"

"No my Lady, though I have established the language it is written in. I found similar forms in very old histories about the conquest of Dorne by Nymeria. Side by side translations, though the form is archaic and the grammer vastly different to common, so attempting translation that way is impossible. However, I am very certain the language is Rhoynish. It isn't spoken any more, or even written. Some people may learn it, but even in the Citadel I know of only one, the Master of Languages, and he speaks three different variants of the tongue of the First Men. I could send this to him, but sending confidential information to the Citadel, where anything and everything is discussed over meals."

"And what if it contains nothing? Or simply instructions? We'd risk showing we have the letter, and risk the reveal of it's contents to the world, attracting more attention to us." says Carth, leaning his back on the battlements.

"True, but unless we had a native speaker here, I see no other option." responds Borrell.

"We'll keep the letter here. No sense in showing our hand. Now, onto the journey to Sunspear. I obviously have to go, I have no illness or inability that keeps me from traveling, and if I pretend one, a man of Prince Doran's reputation would soon see through it. So do both me and Carth go, with the children, or just Elia, so the heir is present, or does Carth remains here?"

"I'd say bringing Elia is a good move. No sense in Elia not going, she's old enough to learn, and her face being known to Prince Doran would be good for her. The twins, not so much. They're too young, and too... shall we say boisterous, for the court of Sunspear." Borrell says, tapping his fingers on his chin.

"We should all go. We can buy a carriage, a small escort, there'd be no issue with the journey. And at court, I'm certain they're used to young children. I fail to see why we shouldn't all go. It's tradition in the Stormlands, is it any different in Dorne?" says Carth, straightening up.

"Its not expected, but not unexpected. Large families, when bastards are treated as non-inheriting children, so not all tend to go. But my Lady has the final word."

Carth looks disappointed, but nods.
"If things were more stable, I'd be more unhappy, but I understand. Just take care. Don't allow anyone to stop you."

Borrell steps forward, and points towards the road.
"Speaking of that, my Lady, how will you be traveling? Over land will be shorter, but more costly. We will have a chance to stop at more noble houses, Yronwood, Jordayne and House Allyrion are all on the road. House Yronwood should be in better attitude towards us, due to the payment of the gold. I am unsure how the other will react, but it shouldn't be hostile. Oversea is the other option, if we stay close to the shore, we should be safe. House Yronwood maintain a large fleet to scare pirates away, but you will either need to land at the tips, or risk the Stepstones."

A garrison is a unit of soldiers assembled to protect a community or fortification. Many garrisons perform double-duty as watchmen and enforce the lord’s peace. While often competent soldiers, garrisons are better at
protecting their homes than fighting on a battlefield, a fact reflected in
their poor morale when drawn into a more protracted war. When fighting on their lands, their Discipline Difficulty drops by –3. When away from their lands, their Discipline Difficulty increases by +3.

"Ser Ascar will go with me, as will the cavalry. We'll be able to travel quickly, Elia can ride with me, or we can get a carriage. All of us on horseback would be quicker, but a carriage would be more comfortable for Elia, she's never traveled before."

"If you are taking Elia, get a carriage. You might be fine if a sandstorm whips up on the road, but Elia is 4 years old." says Carth, his voice stern. "My daughter is not going to ride for a week, even if its with her mother."

"Of course we'll buy a carriage, I am aware of Elia's age. And while I might enjoy riding, the idea of riding for a whole day in the Dornish sun does not appeal."

Carth nods, before looking back at the main keep.
"Well, someone has to tell her..."

----
"Will there be a tournament? Will there be a feast, will I get to see Princess Arianne, will I get to eat a lemon, will I...."

"Elia, its just a simple meeting to swear loyalty to Prince Doran. Nothing more." you reply, watching as your daughter runs around her room throwing clothing and a small stuffed horse Carth had made for her 3rd nameday into a trunk.

Elia's face falls, before perking up again.
"But we will be seeing the other houses no? House Yronwoody, Jordan and Alli... Allry... Ali"
"Allyrion. And I think Houses Yronwood and Jordayne would not appreciate those pronunciations of their names." says Carth, from the door. "But you, young lady, have something more important to do. Are those clothes properly folded?"
Elia pauses, looks at the pile of clothes sticking out of the trunk, and visibly contemplates the chances she has of getting away with saying "Yes", before shaking her head slowly."

"Get a servant to help you, and pack properly." says Carth. "But I need to speak with your mother."
Elia nods, as Carth leads you outside, and pauses outside.
"She is a child Carth, and she's excited."
"I know, but this means she'll stop asking questions and allow you a chance to pack. Anyway, I've found a suitable place to get a carriage from, House Connington are somewhat strapped for money, and have a rather nice carriage. I argued Ronald down to 10 dragons from the 50 he was asking. But thats the price for siding with the wrong people, I suppose." Carth looks a little uncomfortable, but still happy.

"Now, the Carriage will arrive in two days, but till then, you should prepare what you plan to take. I'm guessing there will be weapons somewhere?"

"I'll take one spear and my shield. Just enough for defence. And my best clothing of course."
"Should be plenty. Now, you need to pack. On second thought, get a servant to do it. Otherwise we'll have spear holes in the trunk."

Two days pass quickly, and soon, a carriage has been repainted blue and black from red and white in the courtyard. It is a fine carriage, with strong wheels, and leather bands supporting the main section, lessening some of the jostling. The cavalrymen are packing their weapons and tents into rolls, and dried food and several skins of watered wine are being added to saddlebags. Ser Ascar's squire is scrubbing his armour with wire and sand, while Ser Ascar runs an oiled cloth over his sword and sheath, making it proof against sand and grit once on the road. Elia runs down and hops into the carriage, as two servants carry her trunk down, and lash it to the back of carriage, on top of your trunk. You follow, wearing your traveling clothes, tucking your stiletto into your belt. Carth kisses you on the cheek, before helping you into the carriage. He points at the roof, where you can see a spear has been placed between two of the struts, resting on your shield.

"That should be easy enough to reach. Good luck, and I hope everything goes well." says Carth, before sweeping up his daughter, and kissing her, hugging her tightly. Glancing back at the main door, you can see the twins peeking around the door. You've already hugged them goodbye, but hurry back up anyway, hugging them tightly, as Carth walks over to join them. Stepping back, the two boys hug their father's leg, as you step into the carriage. Elia is bouncing up and down, and leans out the window, waving at everyone, as the group sets off. The road to the Boneway isn't too bad, the carriage bumping occasionally, but Elia is peering out at everything. The Boneway itself is better, the road paved with stones and crete, with regular watch towers manned by watchmen every few miles. As the sun is lowering, you arrive near the bridge over the Red waters, where a small guardhouse sits. It is also near the turn off for House Drinkwater. A lesser house sworn to House Yronwood, House Drinkwater are slightly out of the way, but are a safe house for the night. The captain of the cavalry rides up to the carriage, and leans down.

"My lady, should we seek refuge at the guardhouse, or ride for House Drinkwater? Or we could travel across the bridge, and make camp along the road. It would take some more time to reach Drinkwater Hall, but it would be comfortable, while the guardhouse will be.. well a guardhouse."

"We'll head to the Guardhouse. I'll not extend our journey for the sake of a soft bed. We'll speak to the guardhouse."

Ser Ascar rides forward, and waves towards the guardhouse.
"Hail the tower! My Lady seeks shelter for this night. Have you a bed, or something suitable for hospitality?"

A man appears at the window of the tower, and looks down. He peers at Ser Ascar, before waving him closer.
"Who are you Ser knight? I don't recognise your shield."
"I am Ser Ascar, recently taken into the Service of House Blacksand! My Lady Blacksand and her daughter wish for a bed for the night, nothing more."

The man vanishes from the window. A few moments pass, before he re-appears.
"Lady Blacksand? The daughter of the brute? Well, I guess we must, before she burns us out. We'll decamp somewhere else. Rather not run the risk of being seen as bandits."

Ser Ascar glares up at the man, and you see his sword slide partway from its sheath. Then he shoves it back, and rides back to you.

"They are rude, my Lady, but they won't be bothering you. I see no reason to linger here in the morning though."

Behind him, you see three men leave, carrying bottles and a lit torch. The carriage moves forward, and you and Elia climb down, entering the guardhouse. Inside is a single room, with a wooden walkway half way up, and a ladder and hatch leading to the roof. Three beds are against the wall, and as you move towards them, the cavalrymen enter, laying out bedrolls, and replacing wet firewood in the small stove with dry tinder from their saddlebags. A pot, that used to contain water is set up, and filed with slivers of dry meat, which is boiled into a broth. Feeding small slivers of dried apple to Elia, the two of you eat, before retiring, sharing a bed. Ser Ascar takes one, the captain of Cavalry the final one. As darkness sinks, you hear a singing voice coming from outside.

"The men they walked, they rode up mountains,
Once they owned, Once they owned
Butcher he saw them, them there on the mountains,
Once they owned, Once they owned
The men they slept, up there on the mountains,
Once they owned, Once they owned
Butcher he slew them, upon their mountains,
Once they owned, Once they owned
Butcher is dead now, here in these mountains,
Once they owned, Once they owned...."

Neat more ASOIAF quests!

I really miss Song of Iron and Hate, it's nice to see more of them on the board.

>>2826513
No only the crownland houses do that, and the Great Lords, so
Starks
Arryns
Lannisters
Tulleys
Tyrells
Martells.
And all the Crownlands. Stannis and Renly too, but it is assumed, since they were given their titles by Robert, unlike the others. you swear fealty to Doran, who swears fealty on your behalf to the King. Otherwise you'd have every landed knight travelling to Kings Landing, which would be impractical.

>>2826521
Iron and Hate was fun, having played an Ironborn in an IRL game, its great being someone who is culturally expected to fly of the leash when provoked. Though I was playing a fighting 6, Axe fighter 2, berserker.

Though Bordain was a little more controlled than that.

Problem is that banner houses need to be younger than you by 1 step, and you're as young as can be. As for other Kingdoms, once you've settled in Dorne, there might be some pesky ironborn acting up. And Robert will be suddenly remembering his loyal subjects who he put down here, and their small navy...

You know there's a severe lacking of ladies in our household. Maybe Lissara finds herself in the company of a woman, not like that's out of line for the Dornish.

On the topic though I think we should come up with some goals or people we'd like to meet/minor retainers we'd like to pick up while we're in Sunspear. Getting Lissara a handmaiden would probably help her seem a bit more normal and stave off the very damaging Lissara is a whore rumor mill but introducing a possible character to keep such things discrete with.

Others might be traders or people connected to our essosi contacts, pull some strings to get our docks some use. See if we can't get some of our old friends out this way.

Oh and we should definitely get the children presents.
>>
I need to know. Is Lissara more Dornish or Andal looking?
>>
>>2827703
Why would that matter?
>>
>>2827703
Well dad was a Dornish bastard but AFAIK we never established what sort of dornishman he was or what house he was from. So I don't think we really know. Personally I'd prefer salty Dornish because then our stoney Dornish neighbors would dislike us even more.
>>
>>2827721
We're Stoney Dornish cuz we have brown hair. Maybe we're a bit more tan than Stoney Dornish usually are.

Stoney Dornish have andal features though, like fairer complexions and lighter hair. Though the wiki does establish that stoney Dornish have brown hair as well, so point.

I just got from wiki cuz it says none stoney dornish have black hair like the Rhoynar, so it seemed clear to me that we had Stoney Dornish or non dornish ancestry, or I suppose just very rare salty and sandy dornish with brown hair ancestry
>>
>>2828233
Maybe we're NOT our father's girl. Dun dun dun
>>
>>2828233
Fair enough. If that's the case though I wonder who dad's parent house is now seeing as he was a Dornish baby. Surely there is some sort of familial connection still there but then again "the butcher".
>>
>>2828258
Doesn't have to be a le big and fancy house, can just be from some knightly house.
>>
>>2827622
Well I for one agree with getting some more feminine influence in the house, Lissara could use some friends. Some saucy little dornish and/or essosi woman would be a fun addition in the house, poor Carth.

I liked the hedge knights a lot, anon suggestions turning into interesting/useful characters was fun.

>>
>>2828289
He seems like a pretty high functioning alcoholic to be honest. So long as he keeps himself in line and doesn't give Carth a reason to get rid of him. That's the biggest issue.
>>
>>2828308
Wasn't he nauseous the day of the siege? Doesn't seem like he's keeping it all together.

My gurps game over shot by a bit, so I'll answer/put to a vote the things brought up, cause an hour isn't long enough to actually progress the story, and I can't really do running till early morning for me.

Addressing your mother. Your mother was, like your father, smallfolk, and died of sickness in 280. You were nine at the time, and your elder brother was 15. You were living in Storms End's barracks.

When the rebellion started, your father took you and your brother on the campaign with him, because he didn't want you trapped in a Seige.
>>
>>2828355
Your Mother was a storm-lander, your father was from the Marches, and is a Stone Dornish. Your father left Dorne when your mother was pregnant with your brother, and headed to Storms End to seek employment. He had been a guardsman before, and was raised to being a man-at-arms after his skill with weapons was developed.
>>
>>2828367
So we look more Andal? Guess that's a reason why everyone treats us as an occupier.
>>
>>2828419
Reason is our father served with Robert Baratheon and Bobby B took all that land and gave it to him.
>>
>>2828419
Our father was a right bastard and joined not a very popular side.
>>
>>2828419
All of our neighbors look like andals too. There's a reason the stoney dornish and the rest of dorne haven't historically gotten along very well.

The sun rises early, the light falling on yours and Elia's face through the small slits in the wall. She stirs, and begins to wake, as around you, the cavalrymen and Ser Ascar begin to move around, preparing to move out. A small pot of oats is made, mixed with dried fruit from your rations. Elia begins to eat it, before stopping, and looking at you. Her face looks a little confused.
"Mama, what were those men singing about last night? It didn't sound nice. Why would someone sing about something that wasn't nice?"

Ser Ascar leans over, from where he has finished eating.

"My lady, you should finish eating, we need to be traveling along. Your mother can tell you on the road, once we are properly underway." He glances up at you over Elia's head, his eyes sympathetic.

Seemingly mollified, Elia returns to eating, as the carriage is made ready. The 3 guards from the watchtower are watching at a distance, and as the group move away, one bows exaggeratedly, sweeping his sword along the ground, and bending low.

"I sincerely wish you the best, my lady, and hope I never give you cause to mistake me for a bandit, my lady."

Ser Ascar glares at the man, but he steps into the tower before more words can be exchanged. Soon, you have crossed the bridge, and are well on the road down the Boneway. Elia is looking at you expectantly, clearly having not forgotten Ser Ascar's words

"My dear, your grandfather, my father, was in a precarious situation. His land used to be owned by the other lords around us, given to him by the King. This meant they didn't like him very much. So your grandfather chose to scare them away, by doing something scary, and he attacked a group of their soldiers who were on our land. He said he thought they were bandits, bad men, like the ones your father and I killed. King Robert stopped him from being punished, and it meant that none of the lords around us tried to steal our land. It did make the other lords very angry at us though, and they don't like us very much. They sing that song about grandfather, because they don't like us."

"Why didn't grandpa make friends with the other lords?"

"Your grandfather wasn't the most friendly of people. I'm trying to do that now, but it is hard. It's why we are going overland, so we can make friends with other lords."

Elia seems satisfied with the answer, but is very quiet for the rest of the day. The mountains here are less barren than the ones nearer the border, with small clumps of trees and several springs. The road winds through several fields, with small villages visible in the distance. It is early in the afternoon, when you see Yronwood on the horizon. The large castle looms over the land, built of strong stone, and is a testament to why the Yronwoods have been trusted to guard the main entrance into Dorne. It also has some of the most fertile land not on the Greenblood in Dorne, and you can see several herds of cattle in the fields as you approach. Standing outside the gate, are 4 guards, dressed in mail and carrying spears and shields. Seeing you approach, they move forward, and block the path.

"Ser Ascar, please go ahead and inform them of our identity, and our request to stay the night." you call from the carriage. Ser Ascar nods, then rides forward.

"I am Ser Ascar, in service to House Blacksand. My lady, Lissarra Blacksand, would seek hospitality at Yronwood! Stand aside!"

The four soldiers step back, and one approaches the carriage. Upon seeing you, he immediately steps back, and orders two of his men to accompany you to the castle. Riding up the gate, they call out your identity, and your intentions. A few minutes go by, before the gate slowly opens, and you are beckoned in. Entering a large, open courtyard, you see a tall man with blond hair walking towards you from the secondary gate leading into the keep, wearing a white shirt and a gold chain with a gate symbol. Behind him, you see Ynys Yronwood and Ryon Allyrion, along with a tall handsome teenager, who looks similar to the man leading the way, and a young boy, about 7, with dark hair and olive skin. The man steps forward, and calls out to you.

"Lady Blacksand, I've long wanted to see what Lord Blacksand had boasted about before the Prince. I am Anders Yronwood, Warden of the Stone Way and Bloodroyal of House Yronwood. I offer you salt and bread, as a sign of Guest Right and the shelter of my halls as you travel on your journey. I mean no ill intention while you reside in my halls."

Descending from the carriage, you see most of the eyes in the courtyard have turned to you, watching you closely. A servant carrying a platter with two loaves of bread and a small bowl of salt moves next to Lord Anders

"Bloodroyal of House Yronwood, I accept your offer of guest right, and will do no harm while in your halls." you respond, taking the bread, sprinkling salt upon it, and eating it. Lord Anders looks pleased, and offers you his arm.

"Welcome to Yronwood, Lady Blacksand. I received your payment a few days ago. I trust the bandits were not a problem? Our roads won't be plagued by false toll collectors?"

"No Lord Yronwood, they will not." you respond. "We found them in an abandoned mine, and wiped them out nearly to a man. The survivors are waiting in our dungeons for the Night's Watch recruiting sergeant to come around."

"Good, good. Allow me to introduce my family." Anders says, gesturing to the small group at the entrance to the keep. "You already know my daughter and heir, Ynys, and her husband. This is my son, Cletus, on the way to becoming a fine knight."

The tall teen bows, and as he raises himself back up, you see one of his eyes is wandering to the left, but other than that is exceptionally handsome.

"And this is my ward, Quentyn Martell."

The young boy stares at you intently, his brown eyes slowly looking you over.

"Greetings, Lady Blacksand. How do you find the Boneway?"

"The road was fine, young Quentyn, we had no issues. Lord Yronwood, I must congratulate your prosecution of the bandits. Over such a long distance, it must be difficult to maintain security."

"Well, it pays for itself. The tolls we collect ensure the security of the road, which in turn ensure the Boneway remains the main trade way into Dorne. But, I believe you have not introduced me to this young thing."

Behind you, you see Elia has exited the carriage, and is gazing in slight awe at the castle around her.

"Of course, this is my eldest daughter, Elia. She is accompanying me to Sunspear, as we go to swear fealty to Prince Doran."

"Greetings, lady Elia. Welcome to Yronwood. Somewhat bigger than Shadowpeak, no?"

Elia nods shyly, before Ynys steps forward.
"Father, while the Boneway is more pleasant than the roads ahead, I am sure that the ladies Blacksand are tired from the journey."

Anders nods, and beckons the two of you forward.
"Indeed. It's all very well offering guest right, but if I don't follow it up it's as empty as a desert dune."
Stepping into the keep, you are shown to a the main hall, where servants offer the adults wine, and the younger children lemon water. Anders waits till you've taken a few sips, before speaking.
"So, these bandits, tell me more? Its rare that bandit groups needing a full sortie form in the Red Mountains."

"In truth, I was as surprised as you. They were surprisingly organised, with good equipment. They also appeared to have several more units worth of equipment, I was able to re-equip my whole infantry with gear taken from their stockpile. Also, their commander had papers, which seemed to record everything a military camp would need to operate."

Lord Anders rubs his chin, and hums.
"That seems suspicious. Do you have any leads on their origins?"

"Alas, no. But we are hopefully not going to be bothered by them any more."

"I'll raise a glass to that" says Cletus, downing his goblet. Lord Yronwood nods, following suit, and then turns as a servant enters.
"Bloodroyal, the rooms have been made ready."

"Excellent. Lady Blacksand, a bath and rooms have been made ready for you and your daughter. I also apologise, but my wife cannot attend us now. She is heavily pregnant, and the baby is due any day now."

Pulling the dress on, you straighten it out, and ensure it sits snugly on your body. Stepping out, you see Elia emerging, wearing her best dress as well. She hurries to you, and grabs hold of your hand, as the two of you begin walking towards the great hall, following a servant. Entering, you see most of the Yronwood family already seated, along with several retainers. Cletus seems to be the only one not present. At the top table, Anders and Ynys sit, with two seats left open. Quentyn sits at the top of one of the side tables, an empty seat next to him, then Ryon is seated. The servant guides the two of you to the top table, and seats you next to Lord Anders. He raises his goblet to you, as a course of hare and rabbit stew, seasoned with mountain herbs is served. "Lady Ynys, is the Boneway normally so quiet? I saw very few others on the road, apart from the occasional trader?"

"Yes, Lady Lissara, the Boneway is unusually quiet. This is partially due to the time of year, the cutting of Stormlands lumber is starting soon, so most merchants have already headed there. But there is less travel than normal, the only big party we had was a group of House Wyl soldiers, going to their town on the southern end of the mountains." Lady Ynys replies, before taking a small mouthful of stew.
"However, its not like we are starving. We still made plenty of this season of trade."

"Indeed, myself and my husband hoped to re-open the trade market at Shadowpeak, so as to encourage trade in our home as well."

"You are well situated, yes. The first port on the Boneway is a valuable asset, partially why House Wyl was so loath to loose it."

The stew is cleared away, and Cletus enters, pulling on a shirt. He glances around, before sitting next to Quentyn. Ryon drags his chair over next to Ynys, and kisses her on the cheek, while Lord Anders moves to sit with his master at arms, and begins speaking of outfitting the fleet. The next course is served, a large side of beef cooked in a dragon pepper sauce, the hot vegetables being cooled by jugs of honeyed water that are placed alongside the dish.

Leaving Elia chatting away to Lady Ynys and Lord Ryon, you descend from the top table, and move towards Lord Anders. Upon seeing you approach, he raises a glass, and indicates the master at arms.
"Lady Blacksand, my master at arms, Cayde Manwoody. Don't worry, he left Kingsgrave long before your father came, mainly over him arguing with his brother about a woman. WHat is it?"

"Thank you for this feast my lord, though I rarely eat dragon peppers. They are rather hot. I was wondering, what do you have to say about the political situation in the marches, with the new king and the... disruption the establishment of my house has been."

Anders nods, and glances at Cayde, before gesturing you to sit, and pouring you a glass of honeyed water.
"For the dragon peppers." he says, before gesturing to the platter before you. "As for the situation, I have no easy solution. House Dayne of Starfall is in mourning still over the loss of Arthur, though his brother has got a new baby to look after. The Fowlers are pursuing a case with Prince Doran over House Blackmont raiding the Prince's way, and have stopped complaining about how the Boneway is favoured by the Martells for trade for once, so thats good for me. However, you aren't interested in those, you want my opinion on the Manwoodys and the Wyls, don't you?"

"It had crossed my mind that those were the biggest threats, Lord Anders. After all, King Robert made my land from theirs."

"Yes. House Manwoody threw a tournament for no specific reason recently. It will not surprise you that you were the only marcher lord not invited. My nephew, Archibald, is stopping with House Drinkwater after attending. House Wyl have stopped patrolling their borders, and have gone very quiet, though I don't know why. Last time they acted like this, the lady of the house had lost a baby. I'd watch them. They can be tricky, if cornered. I'm guessing you want to corner them, no?"

"I'd like to render them no longer a threat, yes. Though I'll need proof of anything if I want to strike."

"Well, if you do, you'll have no trouble. Most of House Wyls forces are newly trained, they lost a fair number in the rebellion. Only their bow and infantry corps survived, along with some of their navy. As for the Manwoodys, they have a larger force, several knights and well trained at that. Benefits of being between the Boneway and the Prince's Pass, they get all the hedge knights heading into Dorne."

Thanking Lord Anders, you see Lord Ryon trying to catch your eye. He gestures to where Elia is trying to plait Ynys's hair, with a look of mirth in his eyes. As they do, the desert course is served. Crushed ice, mixed with pulped fruit, is served in small bowls.

He is seven. I was going to mention this before finalizing it. Also, he's spent most of his life in Yronwood pretty much, so any opinions he has are going to be very close to Anders'

Good idea to curry favor with Martell Prince. Also good to mention to Doran that we met and talked with him.
