“No” you say firmly. “I’ll never go back there again. I’d sooner be eaten by Ratattas than go back to that place.” Your voice places a certain disgusted emphasis on those last words. That place was a far cry from a home.

“You really hated that place that much? What did they even do?”

“…” You feel your knuckles turn white from how hard you were clenching your fists. You refused to look Jenny in the eyes.

“I can’t help you if you don’t tell me.”

You don’t budge from your position of silence.

Jenny just sighs exasperatedly, “fine don’t tell me, but that doesn’t change the fact that I caught you trying to pick pocket me.”

>”I didn’t take anything, you have no proof.”
>”I was just moving you out of the way.”

Some general info about the quest;
-Please quote the post you are voting in, not really a rule but it helps me a lot
-If you are changing your vote, please quote the original vote you had as well as the post the vote is taking place in, once again mostly for my convenience and efficiency
-All rolls unless otherwise specified are 1d20 and best of 3
-Wait for the vote to be done before making any rolls
-I appreciate fanart, I don’t appreciate autists going on rants when other Anons don’t like it as much

“And? What are you going to do, arrest me?” You ask sarcastically.

Jenny looks at you like you are an idiot. “That was the plan yes.”

“I didn’t take anything, you can’t arrest me for a crime I haven’t committed yet.”

Jenny looks you over, “How about those clothes, I know for a fact you couldn’t have afford something that new.” Thankfully you had turned the shirt inside out and put the R on the inside, or you probably wouldn’t be having this conversation at all.

”Some good samaritan took pity on me and gave me something better than my rags.” You say with almost practiced ease.

Jenny just looks you over again, trying to find some kind of tell in your body language, before just giving up and letting it go for now.

“So you wouldn’t mind showing me what’s in those pockets of yours?”

Guys, we should maybe think about not getting into the police station.
Like damm, the officer is a good enough person. Tell her we won't touch the market for a month or so and she will probably let us off with a stern warning. We really don't wanna provoke her.
>>
>>2856705
“I know my rights.” You firmly say in refusal.

Jenny stares at you for a few moments, honestly debating pushing the issue further. Probably assuming you wouldn’t actually care if you didn’t have something you shouldn’t have. Through your experience with dealing with this kind of treatment from the local law enforcement you don’t falter under her hard gaze. You know she doesn’t believe you for a second, but you were right, she technically couldn’t do anything. Well she could technically just toss you in jail for disturbing the peace or some other Tauros crap, and no one would care. The public would just see it as getting some street rat off the street, and you were already notorious among the other less empathetic police members.

You knew she wouldn’t throw you in jail, not over this, not while she knew you were starving. While you may have pushed her a bit you know Jenny enough to know that she isn’t that kind of cop, at least this not Jenny.

She makes a disapproving sound, before motioning you to give her your hands. She removes the cuffs restraining your hands, but she doesn’t let go, probably worried you were just gonna bolt the moment she did.

“Listen Mike,” oh god she is going to lecture you isn’t she. “If you’re hungry we can stop buy a burger place. I haven’t had lunch yet so I wouldn’t mind.” She says sincerely.

You honestly weren’t expecting that.

You honestly can’t tell what she is trying to gain from this, but hey free food. “Uh sure?”

Jenny gains a satisfied smile before leading you to some nearby fast food joint. Least it’s cheap; you didn’t really want to owe the officer anything, but your hunger was a far more pressing issue than your pride.

You quietly order your food and eat with the officer in an awkward silence. Jenny just seems to be stuck in some kind of deep thought as her food remains half eaten even as you wolf most of yours down.

You ignore her statement and just show your gratitude for the meal “Thanks for the meal.”

It came out a bit more sarcastic than you wanted it too, but it didn’t matter. Taking the offered fries you leave Jenny sitting at the booth of the fast food joint. She was a cop, but she wasn’t as much of a pain in the ass as other cops were to you, though that was probably due to pity more than anything else.

The thought of the blue haired cop pitying you made your eye twitch a bit and a fire return to your belly. You have a job to do, and soon, you won’t have a need for pity from anyone. You just needed to find your partner, wherever they may be…

>Session end

Will stick around for a bit if anyone has any questions. Also should I make a discord for updates and such or is that overkill for a quest like this for now?
>>
>>2857431
i think this is fine how it's.
>>
>>2857431
I'd say overlkill for a Discord right now, it'll split the current playerbase which isn't good.

Basically a Discord's only good if you're big, and while this is reasonably sized, it isn't big enough.

Splitting up discussion just ain't great, those reading the archive will feel left out.
>>
>>2857450
That and you'll end up with things being decided in discord, alienating new players.
>>
>>2857431

>>
>>2857539
Could do this too: >>2857548

There is a request board after all.
>>
Not to nit pick how the qm chooses to do things, but after catching up you'd think someone spec'd in thievery/pickpocketing could ignore/reroll a critical fail in said specialty
>>
>>2858123
The benefit to being spec'd into thievery/pickpocketing was getting bonuses to your rolls relating to them as well as options you wouldn't normally get because of your street-smarts. I may eventually change the system to where you can earn a skill or something that let's you redo a roll, but then the dice gods will just give you an extra 1 just to spite you adding a bunch of skills like that and how to distribute them without breaking the quest along with what I have to keep track of for the Pokemon will probably be a pain in the ass. If you had picked The Failure, you would have gotten a bonus to battle related rolls and more options relating to Pokemon because of his knowledge, and The Coward would have gotten bonuses to physical rolls and some options that wouldn't normally appear, such as being able to make an attempt to fight off Jenny if he was tackled.
>>
>>2858297
I still think you should change the dice from d20's to d100. The fucking thing rolls ones a lot.
>>
It's true that 3d20 where one nat 1 overrides other results is a fairly high chance of 1s. You could alternatively keep the d20 system, but make it so that whenever players roll a 20, they can vote to bank it for a rainy day, and then eventually use it to negate a natural 1. Saw another quest where that was a thing, players could bank up to 2 20s. He changed it up a some point though
>>
>>2857382
Psychic Quest? Actual psychics or....?
>>
>>2858619
Was inspired by Chronicle at the time, and Telekinetic Quest or Chronicle Quest probably would have been a better name, just didn't want to spoil the surprise of the power. Didn't plan for the MC to have any power other than telekinesis, and the story would just be the MC interacting with the world after gaining the powers. Never really outright stated it but I tried to hint at it when the anons tried to see if they could mind control an animal and accidentally liquefying its brain. Since it was more of a work of brief passion the concept kind of died for me. The original plan was for the MC to be the only person with these powers, but that seemed boring, and I didn't have a plan for writing other major antagonists/protagonists with telekinetic powers or potentially each person having a different psychic power such as clairvoyance or empathy. It was just basically a little thing I wanted to mess with to see if anons would be more heroic or end like the character in Chronicle, going full apex predator edge lord and just being more or less a super villain,, or just dicking around with telekinesis.

It's dead now and will probably stay dead. I don't really have an interest in starting it up again, at least not without major changes. Unlike Paranoia Quest and Bowser Con-Quest which I do have a major interest in either starting up again, or just restarting as is. Though Paranoia Quest might just need a continuation seeing as it had a pretty big split path that entirely changed what genre it could have been.

>>2858479
Thing with that is that while there will be much less crit fails there will also be a lot less crit successes. Try not to put yourself in a situation that would be funny to fail and the dice gods play nice, sometimes. Rarely.

>>2858554
The thing is that if there is a safety net that you can save at any time by just banking a less important roll to later save your asses from a 1 it makes the quest less interesting in my opinion. If it were to be implemented here I would definitely restrict it in some way, most likely by requiring choosing to use the 20 pre-roll instead of after a roll has already been dealt. The problem there being that it would slow down the game somewhat in any roll heavy portion where debates could potentially take place on whether to roll or not.

I'll see how the dice fall on what my anons want and what would actually work, but if anyone has any suggestions on how something like this would work or if enough of you guys want me to switch to the 1d100 format feel free to let me know and I'll consider it.

That will never happen and you know it.
>>
>>2858657
So then you should realize it doesn't matter if its 1d20 or 1d1000, the dice gods will slap 1s on everything and anything for laughs regardless.

>>

Gonna throw down a rough system I just pulled out of my ass for some kind of roll saving for the quest. Not final, and feedback will be appreciated.

>Once per session, you may choose to save a naturally rolled 20 of any roll to be used at a later time.
>Once saved, the roll that the 20 was banked from will gain the 2nd highest of the amount of dice requested for the roll instead of the 20
>It is not permitted to save a 20 from a set of rolls that has a natural 1 as well, as they cancel each other out and the 2nd highest roll is taken.
>There may not be more than two of these 20's saved at any one time.
>The saved 20 must be used prior to the actual roll, and cannot be used once the dice have already been rolled for an option.
>The 20s can only be used for actions directly taken by the player character, Mike, and conversely can only be gained from an action directly taken by the PC. IE you can save a 20 on Mike pick pocketing and use it on him passing a bluff roll, but you can't save a 20 from a Pokemon attack or use a 20 on a Pokemon's roll.

>>2858669
Was planning on running tonight at 5pm, but I didn't sleep at all again and if I fall asleep now I'll probably sleep through my alarm again. I'll likely just end up starting tomorrow at 5-6pm EST. I could try and just stay up til I would normally run, but I tend to get grumpy without sleep, and as some of my old anons can attest, bad things happen in my quests when I run while grumpy. I'll also potentially be on here sporadically today just to check in on opinions on my stance for the dice system and see if we can get something hammered out before next session.
>>
Personally I hate the idea of saving nat 20s. I just also don't like how frequent crits are in the d20 system considering how often we roll. I think the d100 system is better, fewer crits but they can be more surprising and impactful when they happen.
>>
>>2858688
That being said it's not something I'd drop a quest over, we wont roll 1's forever probably
>>
>>2858678
Hey i kinda like that save system. It's pretty fair and it won't stop us so much.

Eh if you feel you won't be able to run properly it's better if you don't do it. I like this quest premise, if we manage to keep the white knight away so we don't end up becoming a reformed rocket.
>>
>>2858689

>>2861244
>Switch to 1d100
And go with the plan of >>2861245 about a range for crit fails and crit successes.
>>
>>2861245
Just to clarify... In case there are some who dont know, using a d20 system will have a 5 % crit fail and crit succes rate. By changing to d100 there is only 1 % chance of crit fail, and 1 % for crit succes, which can seem a bit extreme, so going for 3 % could be sort of a middle way.

Btw, if i did the math right, best of 3 d20 will have a 14,3 % chance of crit fail, which is roughly a bit more than every 8 bo3 on average.
Straight d100 where only 1 & 100 counts as crits would in a bo3 be roughly 3 % chance for crit fail.
Bo3 where 1-3 & 98-100 counts as crits would give about 8,7 % chance if crit fail.
>>
>>2861291
Don't bother using logic with the dice gods Anon. They act as they please, regardless of unimportant things like statistics and mathematics. Just say your prayers to the dice gods each day, and make threadly sacrifices to them and they may deem us worthy of a 20. Or not,
>>
>>2861244
>Switch to 1d100
Yeees, hate using d20 best of three with crits. I don't dislike crits themselves, but as we've clearly demonstrated this thread and last, when using d20s it feels like you crit every other roll, which just kind of ruins the excitement and despair crits are supposed to inspire.

Cool math. Now is this matj based on normal dice or in programed dice?
>>
>>2861244
test the system

banking crits makes more sense for me and honestly, I really don´t see the appeal of d100

restricting the save mechanic to our actions, instead of our pokemons wold also allow us to not become a uber competent trainer right away

Also, I fear that most of he cries of anons for switching are just they being assblasted because we had bad luck early on, even if the conseuences haven´t been so harsh. I could guarantee you that we wouldn´t have this vote if we didn´t got three ones in a row, which was a bad streak of luck, yet still in the realm of posibility.
>>
>>2861919
I doubt we could manage to get three ones in a d100. But the dice have surprised me before so.
>>
>>2861949
I have no problems with critfails being common, if they mean that crits will be common too. Makes more opportunity to either get into problems or excell, with the added benefit of a safety net if something goes really wrong. My issue is anons turning this into a big deal and asking for system change, when there is no need.
>>
>>2861963
Honestly just keep the system we have. As much as anons bitch about not wanting to always win forever they always want ways to avoid failure. It was a bad string of luck, shit happens. If you think it's really an issue just make crits have less effect.

Honestly I'd believe that this is why we have a rep already, we suck so hard at this street rat shit.

It’s been about an hour since you began searching for your lost partner, who just so happened to make off with your hat as well, leaving your brown hair exposed to the world. Each second you felt the pit in your stomach grow a bit larger.

“Zhuuuuuuu!” your voice has been starting to grow horse from all the yelling, but that didn’t matter. You needed to find your partner. If you didn’t…

You didn’t really know what would happen, Team Rocket wouldn’t help. They seem more like the type who’d just throw you a new Zubat and tell you to get back to work. You couldn’t go to the police with this. It’d just bring to many questions like how you got that Zubat in the first place. Which could and in all likelihood it would lead to many more uncomfortable questions.

No, you were on your own for this. Panting as you let out another relatively loud yell for your partner. Yells that just disappeared in the wind for all the good they did for you.

Did Zhu just run away for a better master? You feel your hand squeeze the container with the now cold fries you were saving for your partner. Did he abandon you for someone stronger?

No you need to focus, you need to find Zhu. There is no reason for him to leave you, not yet at least.

“Are you ok Zhu?” you ask in concern, it didn’t get hurt in the tackle right?

You get a screeching noise from Zhu in what you assume is affirmation.

“Oh” you remember your cargo “I got you some dinner.” You look at the semi crushed and cold fries, “Though they are kind of cold now, sorry.” You sheepishly say.

Zhu doesn’t seem to mind, though it uses its wings to motion into your cap. Looking inside you notice it has a few berries. You don’t particularly recognize them, though you think you may have seen them in a stand at the flea market once before.

You can’t help but smile, Zhu wanted to make sure you got to eat. “Thanks Zhu” you say as you give the little pat in appreciation as it begins to contentedly chomping down on the cold fries.

You sit there in silence eating with your partner. The berries are sweet; you think they might be wild. Either that or its just some berries that some flea market shop couldn’t sell because they weren’t appealing looking enough to the typical consumer.

You hand a few of the berries to Zhu as well, wouldn’t do for your partner to go hungry from just a few cold salty potato slices. It takes a few minutes, but you enjoy your partners company for the meal.

The sun hangs in the air as you finish your meal, still plenty of time to get up to some kind of mischief.

I'm all for getting a Gastly, as I've stated before, but why do you keep insisting on going to an abandoned temple specifically to find one? Don't they just frequent abandoned buildings in general? Not disagreeing with the idea, just wondering if you've got a reason to focus on abandoned temples specifically.
>>
>>2862351
They'd specifically go where spiritual presence is high, a random abandoned building probably wouldn't have one, but a random abandoned building built on an ancient Indian burial ground probably would. Among other things.
>>
>>2862351
I apologize if I sounded too spergy.

My first reason was that I played the first Pokemon game and I remember that Ghost types appeared at first in a sort of temple/ graveyard, a tower I believe and I thought sites with some religious background might attract them better.

Besides, since Japanese temples usually have relics which are a bit pawnable than their Catholic counterparts ( think swords, Buddha statues, scrolls...etc rather than mummified remains of saints)
>>
>>2862369
Also, this sites are abandoned, so security shouldn´t be an issue and are very very sparely frequented.

Hell, if we manage to drive out/capture the Pokemon, we might be able to establish ourselves there or communicate HQ we have found a possible hideout location (provided the temple is not in a very bad shape)
>>
>>2862282
You were left defenseless without a member of your team, something that could be highly dangerous in the future. That and the more Pokemon you have, the more power you will have, at least until quality comes into play.

You know ghost Pokemon are a thing, though you weren’t really sure if they were actually dead, or just had some kind of spiritual powers. Ghost Pokemon specifically came up because the thought of having a Pokemon that can just go through walls and doors and potentially unlock them from the other side sounded too good to not have.

You know for a fact they aren’t just in any old random abandoned building, you’d know if they were from the amount of times you’ve been in most of them. They were most likely in the buildings you avoided, those shrouded in a unsettling aura, with a lot of spiritual energy, or with a… certain kind of history. Those were their usual haunts.

Pun intended.

You never went to them before, not out of fear of actual ghosts, those didn’t exist of course. Really. But you never could tell with those ghost types, you’ve heard stories of haunted balloon Pokemon stealing children away in other regions. Heck, there are rumors that some of the ghost Pokemon in this region could steal your soul.

Regardless, you need more allies. You would just have to find a way to convince the ghost to join you, one way or another. You just needed to pick a place to try and find said ghosts.

>A supposedly haunted appliance factory, relatively recently abandoned after the machines in it started moving on their own and even started attacking people

Probably the safest bet is the factory, the temples still probably had care takers that wouldn’t want battles to happen in the place and the less said about THAT building the better. You and your newly reacquired hat and partner made their way to the abandoned factory.

The place was rather interesting, no real history of spiritual happenings or anything terrible on the grounds. No curses by some ancient spirit on the building. Just one day the appliances seemingly came to life. The people in charge at the time weren’t able to find a solution that was cheap or easy enough, so they cut their losses and abandoned the place.

Walking onto the grounds didn’t give you any sense of foreboding, but you knew better than to let your guard down. It just looked like any other old abandoned building that was in this town, except not picked clean because of the rumors.

“Zhu keep an…” you were going to say eye, but that wasn’t really a thing Zhu had, “keep and ear out for anything ok? We are trying to find another teammate, maybe some things that we can take.”

Walking into the large building everything was quiet. Dusty work equipment, boxes, and home appliances were scattered around the area. The place had a high ceiling, which would give Zhu more mobility if a battle were to happen.

So out of curiosity, what sort of stuff could we pull with the Gastly line? I mean, I know what moves they're capable of in the games and the show and such, but I mean I read Pokemon Adventures, and they played REALLY fast and loose with what Gastly, Gengar and Haunter could do. Like early on, when Red visited the Haunted Pokemon Tower, some Gastly performed a few rather crazy feats, including: Reanimating a bunch of fucking corpses and making honest to god Poke-zombies to attack Red with, and possessing Blue, Red's rival. Agatha's Gengar at one point hid in her opponent's shadow and slowly sucked the life out of him. I mean it didn't succeed, but that was most likely only because her opponent was Koga, an actual ninja, who was used to weird shit like that.
>>
>>2862445

“Zhu I’m gonna look around, keep an ear out for me from above.”

The Zubat complies immediately swooping up into the rafters of the ceiling, letting out light screeches, most likely searching the area. Taking out your lighter you give it a small spark, letting a small light attempt to pierce the darkened area, only for it to be greedily consumed.

You could only see roughly a few feet in front of you at a time, not counting the light coming in through the open door. You take a look at a nearby appliance, naturally gravitating towards the fridge. Quickly opening you are not surprised, but no the less disappointed at not finding it filled with food.

As you turn to inspect the next appliance you hear the entrance to the factory slam shut. You whip around your eyes attempting to pierce the darkness to find the perpetrator “who’s there?”

“Zhu, we’re not alone in here. You see anything?” You say into the darkness.

You still hear Zhu flapping in the rafters, and letting out the occasional louder noise, but it gives you no other indication that it is there other than what probably is Zhu trying to search faster.

You aren’t ready to run, not yet, taking your lighter you move deeper into the enemy Pokemon’s territory, it couldn’t be a ghost. There was no reason for a ghost to be here of all places. As you desperately keep an eye out for the Pokemon you slowly back yourself to a wall to prevent an attack from your rear.

Where is that damn thing…

You hear a loud metal clang in the distant darkness, no where near where you assumed Zhu was.

“Zhu stay close to me.” You command as you slowly make your way to the sound.

You’d like to keep your back to the wall but the sound came from what was probably the center of the room. Jumping over a conveyer belt you see what made the sound. I discarded metal tool of sorts. Kind of looked like a small tire iron, probably something to bolt some appliance together.

You feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end as you get the sudden sense that you should probably move.

>>

Not really, at least in urban environs. Pokemon who could, within reason, have migrated or been accidentally transported between regions are around, i.e. urban Pokemon like Murkrow, Houndour, etc. Out in the wilderness it should be almost entirely Kanto Pokemon though.

True, we'd probably be rewarded quite handsomely for it, if it is one. Doesn't seem like a certainty though. My knowledge of Sinnoh Pokemon is admittedly rather spotty, but Rotoms are pretty distinctive when they possess an appliance, aren't they? What with all the orange and the electricity. Or is that something they can turn off?
>>
>>2862551
You don’t know of any washing machine Pokemon, but regardless it’s where the attack came from so you respond in kind. You throw the metal tool at the device, it lands in the still open front causing the metal clang and inside the still rotating appliance. You hear what sounds to be a groan of pain from the machine, and a glowing… Pokemon comes out?

You’ve never seen a Pokemon like this before; it looked like some kind of orange ball with eyes and a spiked top. It emanated energy, forming two flipper-like limbs. On closer inspection the limbs seemed to be electrical in nature.

It seemed that it was still disoriented by your attack, so now would be a good time to…

Zhu swept down to try and tackle it to get a more consistent drain, but the erratically moving Pokemon was able to dodge through sheer unpredictability. It seemed to calm down enough to try and start charging up again.

You knew Zhu couldn’t take another hit like the last one, you needed to stop this now.

Yo, if we catch this rotom, we can hack an ATM, get some mad cash, & we can get some Civilian Clothes.

But honestly, if we do catch it, we shouldn't show it to TR till we are higher in the grunt ranks, cause they can just say "hand it over".

Eh i would rather keep it since we need to make a mouthly delivery of either money or rare pokemon to TR. I would rather have a eletric/steel like magnemite. But maybe the ghost/eletric will work better since it can literaly possesses the machines.

If nothing else this could at least stop the Pokemon for a brief moment to give you and Zhu a moment to get your bearings so you reach into your pocket and take out a small ball.

https://youtu.be/R28TN293I1w

It grows in your hand as you thumb the button, rapidly reaching its full size. You think that this should be simple enough, just like throwing a baseball. Taking a rough imitation of the stance a pitcher would use, and resisting the strange urge to turn your hat backwards, you throw the Pokeball landing it squarely on the electric ghost things fat head. The ball bounces off making and shoots out a red laser that spreads all around said mon, before completely consuming it and bringing it into the ball.

https://youtu.be/odza7EGd69Q

Did it work? You turn to where the ball is, no longer seeing the glow of the electric Pokemon, but rather the small red light coming from what looks to be the center of the ball. It was shaking…

https://youtu.be/nAaKLZF1u2U

A tense few moments pass as your brain runs a mile a minute thinking of some kind of strategy to stop the Pokemon once it escapes the ball. Zhu rests on your cap, ‘staring’ intently at the ball, ready to continue the battle at a moment’s notice…

https://youtu.be/o1DNJB3tOO4

Before it just stops, the light goes down and you are left in complete darkness.

You caught it?

You caught it!

https://youtu.be/DlkLENF7hnQ

“We did it Zhu!” you say happily to your partner, honestly surprised you pulled off catching some strange unknown Pokemon.

Zhu seems to be satisfied as well as it lets out a victory screech.

Taking out your thankfully not to damp lighter, you bring some light on the situation. The ball is completely dormant, and you feel a giddy anticipation as you pick up the ball. Pressing the button on the front you shrink the ball and pocket it. You can’t wait to see how this bad boy does…

You could also report to Team Rocket that this place probably would go pretty cheap since no one but you knows that the ghost is cleared out. Though if you tell them that you caught it and they find out it’s a Pokemon you’ve never seen before they might just tell you to hand it over. You could always just say you drove it away and ask if they know anything about it.

Meet our new friendo and take a look at what he can do
Then talk to Rocket about how we dealt with the ghost and it could be cheap, don't tell them about our boi. Maybe we can finally get a place to keep things now, who knows?

Maybe we could ask them if they want us to continue the "haunting" to see if they want to buy the land on the cheap.

How would anons feel about talking in private with Bark to ask him about any rules regarding captured rare Pokémons? H e did us a favor after all.

Taking out your Walkie Talkie you call in your superior. The familiar voice of Bork picks up.

“Hey it’s Mike. You know that factory that recently got shut down because of the appliances coming alive?”

“Yeah, what about it?”

“Just cleared out the Pokemon causing it, just wanted to clue the team in since it’d probably be cheap to snatch up before the owners realize the ghost is gone.”

“Really? You got rid of some Ghastly twerp? Those things are a pain in the ass to get rid of when they are in packs.”

“There was only one,” you leave out the fact that it wasn’t a Ghastly, “Just out of curiosity would a ghost type have any uses if I caught one?”

“Only ghost types around here are Ghastly, and they are only really good as scouts til they can manipulate things better, usually when they evolve into Haunters, problem is those kinds of Pokemon tend to be…” He looks for the correct phrase. “Less than helpful most of the time, takes an expert to train some of those ghost types. They like to mess around more than battle most of the time, some even blowing operations just for a laugh.”

“So I shouldn’t use a ghost type then?” you stare at the new Pokemon’s ball uncertain.

“Not all ghost types are like that, but the Ghastly line tends to be a bit of a pain sometimes.”

“One last thing, what is the rules regarding catching rare Pokemon that we want to keep?”

“S’long as it is useful for Team Rocket purposes and it isn’t some power house that we wouldn’t want some random grunt having your good to keep it. Why? Something catch your eye?”

“I think I saw something with potential. Scyther has always looked cool to me.” You make up on the spot, well not really made up. The edgy bug is a Pokemon you would have loved to have back when you still dreamed of being a trainer.

“Ah, a Scyther huh? A pretty good pick if I do say so myself. If I catch wind of one I’ll let ya know.”

“Cool thanks…” You stop yourself from saying his name. For some reason Barf always got upset when someone said his name, and you didn’t really want to be on his bad side when he was offering to find you a Scyther.

“Whelp I got to get back to work, later.” You end the conversation before you accidently say his name.

Pocketing the device and your new Pokemon’s ball you head back to the city, ready to continue your quest for glory. Next time.

>End of session

Short session because I just wanted to finish the battle from last night, gonna be around for a bit longer for any questions or comments, specifically curious about opinions on the new 1d100 system, and some ideas for general rolls on the saving rolls system since it’s a lot less likely to get a 100 now. Should it be a range? Etc.
>>
>>2864196
If we added a range for crit successes/failures, then we might as well go back to the 1d20 system. I'd say either just do the 1d100 system with no saves, or try out the 1d20 system with the saves.

As for which I prefer, I don't really care either way, seeing as it's going to garner similar results judging from that fight. I liked the d20 system as it was different from all of the d100 systems going around, but that string of crits earlier on was rough.

Oh, and thanks for running regardless of the system - really enjoying it so far!
>>
>>2864196
I wonder, could we ask HQ for some basic living amenities in exchange for the "credit" earned from the factory? Also ask Butch how much the Team will give us from the operation and if we could put up a hideout for the team there.
>>
>>2864196
Pretty fine with it as it is. Would prefer we avoid ranges, if we had them we may as well just go back to d20s, which I’m pretty strongly generally, at least when there are crits involved. So, what are you guys thinking? Keep Rotom, or turn it in for some sweet sweet credit? Could go either way personally. Rotoms seem rare enough, here in Kanto at least, that we’d probably earn a lot of credit for it, maybe even get one or two of the Pokémon we were gunning for, but I could also see the value in keeping a Pokemon that can possess most machinery as well, provided we can make it cooperative.
>>
>>2864386
Pretty strongly against generally*
>>
Maybe we should find a library or something so that we can read up about Zubat's and "ghost" type pokemon.

>>2864386
I'd say that we need more bodies on the team more than we need credit at the moment, especially if we want to do something more intensive battle-wise. Rotom would probably end up making us more credits through jobs in the long run.
>>
>>2864386
Keep it for now I think, seems like it'll come in handy when we need to steal shit
>>
>>2864386
ATMs
Have that pokemon split that cash out into our open arms
>>
>>2864386
Honestly I say keep it, besides the fact a ghost/electric type is useful as hell and unlike a ghastly it's rarely seen in this region so they'll be less prep against one here, we really need more than just a low level zubat. Besides considering ghastlys are apparently really hard to work with and MC is a character with no real experience with pokemon beyond the last couple of days we might be better off in the long run, and like anon earlier said ATMs and vending machines are now viable hits and that's pretty damn good.
>>
>>2864828
>>2865354
Are ATMs a thing here? I mean I don’t recall ever seeing one in the games or the show, but that may just be my faulty memory.
>>
>>2865377
You didn't really need an ATM system in the game but you didn't have starved orphans and any real crime beyond Team Rocket either. I'm gonna assume ATMs and banks are a thing, just not things a 10 year old trainer who can pay straight from their pokedex/card with winnings earned from battles would really worry about.
>>
We can be really creative with Rotom: ATM, Vending Machines, Hack into a Motel, talk to it on a cell phone, take out light sources/cameras, hack the system to register us as a “legal” trainer(?)
>>
>>2865993
Proper computer hacking would probably require a Porygon, which is an organism made out of code. Rotom is just a poltergeist, its a ghost that inhabits appliances, it doesn't necessarily have the acumen to rewire or alter the machine its inhabiting. Porygon is software, Rotom is hardware. So while Porygon could probably hack a system, Rotom would just inhabit the computer and swing the mouse around and shit. BUT, we could then return Rotom to its ball, and steal the computer.

That being said, the uses of Rotom are many. The Vending Machine one will probably be the most immediately practical, because it gives us pocket change and Soda Pops on demand. But we could also have him suck up valuables as a vacuum cleaner or break through a wall as a drill or something.
>>
>>2866046
Probably, yeah. I mean I guess we could try and teach it how to operate a computer, but that honestly seems like too much trouble to go to, and it might not be able to learn how anyways. I guess keeping Rotom also saves us from having to deal with doubling up on poison type with Gengar if we want a Ghost Type, and gets us an Electric Type as well. How would that whole switching types through possessing stuff work here? Are we just disregarding it, and not having possessing appliances affect the typing, or is there going to be a system do you all think?
>>
>>2865354
>Not going full Type Ace (Poison)
I just want to be the best at something.
Maybe go semi-legit when we're older producing Antidotes and medical applications of various dilute poisons.
>>
>>2866159
Honestly as a Team grunt I always thought we would specialize around a group of types instead of just one. Like ghost, dark, poison, and maybe psychic/bug/normal. I have never seen a pokemon quest that actually rewards specializing into specific types.

>>2865993
You make a very good point. The only reason I thought about selling the Rotom is because i'm not sure how good it is at typical ghost stuff. Which is what we wanted.

We know Ghastly are a bunch of tricky dicks but they have the skills we desperately need. Which is want we seem to be after. Not pokemon strength in battling like most trainers but rather the skills they have OUTSIDE of battling.

Which is what zubat so great. Zhu is literally a living radar dish. Making him an amazing spotter/scout. Now we got a Rotom who specializes in possessing electronics and machinery to control them. Best of all he's already blind so his/her sight can't be messed with.
>>
>>2866181
While I was some of the earlier proponents about selling this Rotom, as many people say, it is way too good to do that.

The ATM hack is a good way to get ourselves into a shitload of money and for pulling realy incredible heists it is a vital addition to the team.

Although, now that we are filled with utility, we should think abut getting some muscle. the Scythe might be a good way to do it, but I am curious about anons suggestions.
>>
>>2866073
>>2866046
>>2865993
I don't know about hacking but the physical aspects to Rotom possessing electronics alone, like spitting up money at an ATM or Opening a safe without any need to crack it, are incredibly useful. If it can switch types through possession of certain appliances like it can in the games than I say we have a longterm keeper on our hands.
>>2866159
>going full single type focus and giving your crew a clear weakness
>Not going full Crimeboss leader as we go up the ranks and build up cred
you disappoint me anon.
>>
>>2866194
Well we have our electric and ghost type rolled into one, Rotom has his unique skillset plus the regular stuff ghost types can do like phasing through walls and being all spooky and invisible and such. Zhu is our number 2 and has a good radar and scout roll, plus he's got poison and flying meaning at higher levels he can act as our getaway if we can get our hands on the right TM/HM and teach him fly. Sythor is good, though I'm partial to Beedrill too. They're close to enforcers though we'll want a heavy set bruiser type for intimidation factor and because having a big guy to kick ass is always helpful. Maybe a Machamp would be worth looking into. After that I'd say a fire and water type. Catching a Growlithe or finding a charmander would be good, as for water I'm definitely all for a Gyrados. Magikarp are really easy to find and if we put enough effort into it I'm sure we can make one evolve, it would be pretty worth it too. If not that then a Golduck wouldn't be a bad catch. That would leave about one slot left for our end game team. I would say either an Abra or if possible a Dratini. We could also get a Meowth, they're natural thieves and good luck so having one would really round out our pokegang's capabilities.
>>
>>2866315
Actually a Ryhorn could also be a good enforcer type too, though the Machamp is humanoid enough to have more utility. Mostly since they have superhuman strength but normal looking hands.
>>
>>2866315
I think my dream team, with what we've got considered, would probably include Scyther, Drowzee (I know the Abra line's probably the better between the two, but Drowzee and Hypno just seem more fitting for a villain), Houndour, and then I'm kind of torn between Magikarp and Rhyhorn for our last Pokemon. Either would work as a bruiser, but I'm leaning more towards Rhyhorn, if only because we're more likely to be operating in an urban environment then we ever are an aquatic one. Could go for Tyrogue (To evolve into a Hitmonlee) or Machop for the last slot as well though.
>>
>>2866280
>spitting up money at an ATM or Opening a safe without any need to crack it
I would hope ATMs and safes in the pokemon world would have countermeasures against this sort of thing...
>>
>>2866374
Well I mean maybe in Sinnoh or whatever, but we're in Kanto right? There aren't exactly any Pokemon that can possess and control machinery here.
>>
>>2866378
>>2866374
Not to mention, how the fuck could you possibly ghost proof an ATM? Think about it, even when dealing with the local ghost type pokemon , it seems like the only thing you can possibly do to be rid of them is battle, diplomacy, getting the fuck out. Option 3 seems to be the big go to, what with the full on spirit town and an abandoned factory full of exploding possessed pokeballs. I mean, if they can't even keep pokeballs, a complex device designed specifically to restrain pokemon, from being possessed by the local ghost pokemon then I doubt Rotom would have a problem with a safe or a vending machine.
>>
>>2866360
I would honestly prefer Arcanine over hounder but that's just me. A charzard would be cool too, what kid wouldn't want a fucking dragon.
>>
>>2866467
I would think it'll be cheaper just to call the police or the pokemon catcher part of the local government. And the atm would have some insurance i would think. Maybe it was a alarm system if you try to take out money without a card or more than the limit?????

Like another anon said, we can always use it for small fry things like a Vending Machine, low tech like Mr. Krabs having a quarter on a string.
>>
>>2866485
THIS. Big stuff will bring us more heat. Test our abilities AND loyalty of a new Pokemon. He could be just a mischievous fuck with no discipline.
>>
>>2866485
Yeah, going around cracking ATMs or something like that is bound to get us a lot of unwanted attention - both from the police and Team Rocket. Let's start small to keep things on the down low and see what Rotom can do.
>>
>>2866475
But Charizard isn't a dragon type.
>>
>>2866475
Would prefer Houndour myself partly for the typing, Dark and Fire’s pretty good, partly because I just like the look of Houndour and Houndoom, and partly because it would fit a villainous type like us.
>>
>>2866859
Also we kind of already know where we can find a Houndour, even if we’d need to ask Brent in-character, whereas I’ve no idea where we’d be able to find a Growlithe.
>>
>>2866835

>>
>>2866475
>>2866859
I'd absolutely prefer a Houndour, Arcanine doesn't feel right.
>>
>>2866315
Just a note, you won't need HMs to do things like surfing or flying. While the attacks will exist for attacking purposes, if the Pokemon could physically be able to do it then it should be able too without the move. I was actually doubtful a Crobat could lift a person, but then I found out that it is fucking 5'11 on average. That'll be fun when it tries to roost on Mike's head.

A note about ATMs, while yes they exist, and yes you can potentially hack them with Rotom they are somewhat uncommon and like most ATMs they will have a limit on how much you can 'withdraw' before the system gets suspicious. Honestly surprised no one has suggested to steal and hack a Pokedex and make a fake Trainer ID.
>>
Guys I have an original idea: lets steal and hack a Pokedex and make a fake Trainer ID.
>>
>>2867059
There is no way I would believe the fact that those pokedex's DON'T have GPS trackers inside them. I mean come on they hand them out like candy to kids who go on long journey's without adult supervision. As for fake ID's it should be standard issue among criminal groups like Rocket. I'm more surprised they didn't already give us one as a starting alias.

>>2867054
I wish we had known that earlier. Zhu would already have the move Fly then. Damn.
>>
>>2867062
I meant as in that it can carry you around, you'll need to teach it the attack if you want it to actually use the attack.

Also would you waste the resources jail breaking or producing Pokedexes with fake IDs for every single fresh recruit grunt?
>>
>>2867061
Great idea!!
>>
>>2866907
Also with Arcanine we would be stuck requiring to either steal or buy a fire stone to evolve him.
>>
>>2867066
Actually yes plausible deniability and its more for their own gain then the grunts. A fake ID would keep them from being traced back to Rocket. This is important even for small jobs and mere grunts because of all the crimes they commit. They can leverage this and charge their bosses for the crimes too claiming they knew about them/ordered it. Up and up the food chain they can go...but what if you don't know the true identity of the minions? You may know they're Rocket but deniability due to lacking of a true ID makes it much easier for Rocket and the bosses to deny any association. As for the minions? Fake ID Makes their lives so much easier.

Basically the Bosses want the deniability fake IDs give and the minions want the safety they offer. I could go on but the reasons behind it are many because there are a LOT of benefits for both sides.
>>
>>2867600
You say this but what about the fact they literally give Rocket t-shirts to everyone that joins and tell them to go out and steal shit. I mean we were smart enough to at least turn that shit inside out but I bet you the average grunt wears it with a sense of pride and edgyness
>>
>>2868839
They do that just to thin out the retards to the ones worth having.

It's like wearing a ISIS shirt, or wearing gang colors.
>>
>>2868839
>>2867600
Homeztly I just assume there's so many small time groups of grunts and such that capturing a couple doesn't really do anything to the higher ups above that. You're given no real instructions or info beyond what's needed or asked for, there's no official meet up point, the phones are probably either protected or disposed of with every call, and it's so easy to get in an uneducated orphan with no real experience or skills beyond petty theft can get in. It's actually a pretty good system all things considered, obvious drawbacks to it but it has merit and clearly it works.
>>
>>2868851
There is a problem with that mentality. If catching grunts was that easy then it leaves a very big opening to get plants inside team rocket. Either flipping the low level grunts or just putting cops through the initiation and getting them to climb the ladder. Team Rocket has to have some people inside the police force very high up to see this kind of thing coming.
>>
>>2866863
Same place as Houndour, just during the day.
>>
>>2868839
I mean normaly the grunts are the guys that only use poison type pokemons.
>>
>>2869687
I was referring more to the plausible deniability than anything else. The idea that giving a bunch of grunts hacked pokedexes to give them some amount of plausible deniability is somewhat defeated if at the same time you are handing them a shirt with the logo of your organized crime/terrorist group on it and say "Go do some crime and then bring back tributes"
