In a holding orbit nearby a lifeless planetoid, the Imperial First Fleet waits in silence. A deadly collection of Star Destroyers and escorts poised and ready.

On the bridge of the Star Destroyer ExsanguinatorAdmiral Yazz stares at the flimplast printout of his orders with distaste.

"Shuttle here then shuttle there," he says to no one. His subordinates know better than to ask him to repeat himself. He'd only just gotten the fleet deployed to counter attack any incursion Thrawn might make on the Core, now he was bustling off again to help bail out Oxtroe.

He sighs, "Let's hope beyond hope that fool Zahn knows what he's doing." He looks over his shoulder to Navigation. “Get hyperspace routes plotted, we’re moving out.”

I always try to incorporate (and encourage!) write ins if they don't violate the spirit of voted decisions, though I may edit or tweak them to fit better.

You and Emperor Palpatine and your thoughts are troubled. Your reconquest of the galaxy has been proceeding better than you could have imagined. The Rebellion is all but extinct and you have in your grasp the grandson of Darth Vader, the young Jacen Solo. Even so, you expect a plot by the jedi to make an attempt to steal the child back. You’ve dedicated significant resources to fortify the Palace against the coming attack, but even so, you have your reservations,

The doors to the nursery hiss open silently and admit you. This room is a nursery in name only, containing the same dark and plain color scheme as the rest of the Imperial Palace, but it is the temporary home of Jacen Solo who currently is closed away in his bedroom on the far end of the nursery.

A pair of attendants in grey robes are tidying up the room from what was clearly a massive tantrum. Small tables overturned, blocks scattered, a data pad crushed.

Lord Brakiss oversees their progress before noticing your arrival.

"Master-"

"How is the child?" you ask.

Brakiss's face clouds. "Troubled. It seems he hasn't taken well to his new situation, which is hardly surprising. He's sleeping now."

You nod. "He hasn't been damaged I trust?"

"No, Master. We've been quite delicate. We're fortunate, he is just a child and his needs are simple. In time he will serve you as we all do." He pauses just long enough before asking, "How is your Apprentice doing?"

“I've entrusted her with protecting my flagship,” you say imperiously. “A job which I have faith in her to carry out.”

“Yes, Master, of course.” Brakiss gives you a shallow bow, reigning his emotions in closely so they are almost unreadable to you through the force, but you know he can’t be pleased.

“She’s a faithful servant. I’m more concerned with the boy’s future.”

Brakiss looks toward Jacen’s quarters. "It will take some time to turn this child. He is no blank slate for us and his parents have ensured that we won't have an easy task before us," Brakiss says. "I would like us to consider the possibility of advanced conditioning. We can get to the root of his mind much faster that way."

When Brakiss says 'Advanced Conditioning' he means a hybrid form of intricate torture and reprogramming. Mental attacks day and night with the force, chemical cocktails of hallucinogens and sedatives, a rigorous physical regimen to break down mind body and soul. In this case, tailored for a young child.

Conditioning like that would ultimately leave Jacen as a blank slate, broken down into his most basic elements, but it would also take something from him, something he would never get back. Independence and autonomy were important qualities to have in a subordinate. Too much autonomy led to rebellion and betrayal, too little . . . You can't help but think of the meek and simple-minded fools that were in control of much of your Empire.

The alternative would be to let Jacen grow without direct interference at that level. He would be trained and he would be broken, but the core of himself would be left intact, not ground up.

“I have no more use for a petulant child than I do a broken tool. Do as you must. We’ll scrub the rot from his mind and leave something harder and sharper in place.”

Brakiss smiles. “I’ll see to it at once.”

“Do not take everything away,” you say, acting on a second thought, “Leave him enough to hate.”

“Yes, Master.”

You turn and leave the nursery behind for your chambers.

***

You feel the ripples of fear and anger in the force before you hear the alarm klaxxons sound throughout your palace. Before you end your meditation you feel something else. A presence you haven't felt since Endor.

Skywalker.

You open your eyes and engage the com system in your meditation chamber. "What is it?"

"Highness, a rebel band is attacking the palace exterior. They've broken into the main atrium and are fighting toward the turbolift shafts. I think they intend to descend to the secure areas." Your chief of Palace security doesn't mince words.

You reach out in the force and touch the minds of your servants, soldiers fighting and dying not far from you, the minds of your Dark Side Adepts who now are igniting blades to draw blood from their enemies. You feel the minds of your enemies, determined and hate-filled.

You can't find Skywalker, but you know he's here. Somewhere.

"I've held the Solo child and had his floor placed on lockdown as requested. Lord Brakiss is personally overseeing his defense."

"Jedi?"

"There are some in the attack force, yes. We haven't made positive ID on them yet but I would say half a dozen, maybe more."

A few dozen rebel commandos and a scattering of Jedi hoped to take the Solo child from you this way?

“I will join Lord Brakiss in the nursery momentarily. Put all sections on alert.”

“It’s done, Highness.”

You kill the channel and stand, stretching your limbs and flexing your muscles. With a flick of your wrist, you call your saber to your hand. It wasn’t the one you prefer, that having been long lost. This one had once belonged to a Jedi, part of your vast collection of stolen artifacts from their temple. It’s blue blade seemed so out of character to you, but it would do well enough. You stow the saber in your robes and make for the turbolift shaft, pausing in the doorway of your room to reach out through the force. Perhaps it was an abundance of caution born from your last demise, but you felt something amiss.

You feel the fight above in the atrium, blazing like a star of anger and death. You feel Skywalker as well. Distant somehow, but present. Alive. And not alone.

No matter. You would go to the child and surely he would come to you.

Exiting the room, a pair of your massive Sentinel guards fall in line behind you. Afterwards it is only a short journey down the turbolifts to the nursery where you find Brakiss standing in the center of the room, radiating impatience and unease. This far down in the palace you are mostly shielded from the sounds of battle save the occasional muffled ‘thump’ of thermal detonators and explosive charges.

The latest report was that the rebel commandos had taken control of the atrium and were in the process of slicing into the turbolift shafts. They’d only accomplished this over a small carpet of the dead. Yours and theirs.

(1/2)
>>
“The child?” you ask.

“Safe,” Brakiss replies, gripping his saber tightly. “I’ve had his attendants sedate him in case-”

A door to the room opens and the two of your turn as a trio of humans enter the room. They were the uniform of Imperial Intelligence but you feel them burning in the force. A fourth enters in behind them, a hulking Whiphid, covered in fur with glaring slit-eyes and protruding tusks.

“Jedi,” Brakiss snarls, snapping his saber on.

The four opponents fan out, drawing their own sabers.

You are surprised to recognize one of the Jedi, a white-haired man in an Imperial officer’s uniform. You can’t recall his name but he was once one of your Dark Side Elite, apparently turned by Skywalker.

The other two humans you don’t know, though one seems to be significantly more confident with the other, a youth with black hair. You sense in him much fear.

The youth speaks first, “Kyle it’s-”

“Stow it.” The one called Kyle snaps back. “The plan is the same.”

You feel their eyes on you, uncertain.

The Whiphid steps forward. “It’s over, Highness/. Turn over The boy and we’ll spare your life.”

Your Sentinels will likely be no match for them, but they will by you time to deal with some of the weaker ones first. The Whiphid seems especially strong in the force. You are certain you can deal with this pitiful band, but you might prefer not to slaughter them, but to instead take some alive.

“Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?” Your words echo in the still chamber a moment before you call your saber to hand and ignite it.

Brakiss likewise lifts his own saber and ignites Your two Sentinels silently brandish their Vibro-axs which both hiss to action.

The Jedi cut their sabers on to mirror your action and soon the room is awash in blue with a hint of Red from Brakiss’s saber.

There is a full beat of nothing, then the youngest Jedi dives in with a cry of fear and hate.

“Rayf!” One of his companions calls.

The attack is deftly intercepted by Brakiss who drives him back with a flurry of strikes.

Your two Sentinels lunge forward with their weapons, each targeting a Jedi, leaving the Whiphid for you.

The two of you race forward, sabers clashing as you struggle in the Force for an upper hand over each other. The Whiphid is physically strong, but you’re not the frail old man you used to be and are able to keep pace.

You step back and avoid a crushing downward blow, delivering a singed line across his bicep eliciting a howl of pain. But with the Force you know that his physical edge of over you doesn’t matter.

The Jedi doesn’t take the bait and goes on the defensive goading you to attack.

You’re happy to oblige and leap through the air, batting his saber aside with yours and planting a kick in his chest that sends him reeling.

You land and catch your breath, seeing the white haired Jedi pulling his saber from one of your Sentinels and rushing to aid Rayf who is battling Brakiss.

Kyle is nearly done with your other Sentinel, having already hacked one of its arms clean off.

Your faith in Brakiss is rewarded as he sends Rayf’s head tumbling across the floor before turning to intercept the former Darksider attacking him.

You likewise swat away the Whiphid’s saber and with a gleeful shout drive your blade into his sternum ending him. You turn in time to see your last remaining Sentinel fall, leaving Kyle facing you, seething with anger.

You don’t need to taunt him, he’s already over the edge.

You deftly side step a hasty saber attack and raise a free hand, wracking his body with electricity, sending him into agony where he collapses to the floor.

“No. The Jedi’s time has come and gone,” you say, coursing more bolts through him while Brakiss wears down the remaining jedi in heated combat. “The old order has been swept away.”

Kyle writhes on the ground, crying out in agony, his saber rolling away from him as he tries to crawl away from you.

You keep pace with him. “The new era of the Sith has begun.” A final bolt extinguishes his life at the same time as Brakiss finishes the fourth Jedi, panting.

You switch off your saber and look over the carnage. Brakiss is sweating, panting, he has a nasty gash on his side, though it’s been mostly cauterized. Your Sentinels are in pieces, but they can be replaced. You allow Brakiss to see a satisfied smile before your attention is seized by the room’s intercom.

“Highness, we’ve contained the Rebel incursion in the Atrium, General Solo is dead sir along with most of his strike team.”

You don’t have time to reply, you become aware of something else in the Force, an absence.

Your Apprentice.

It is only in the aftermath of the battle you’re able to find all the details. Jacen Solo is still in your custody thanks to your timely assistance of Lord Brakiss. Your flagship, the Super Star Destroyer Tarkin is safe thanks to your apprentice, Darth Cythera who gave her life protecting it. Luke Skywalker and his sister had staged a sneak attack on the ship, perhaps intending to draw you away from the palace. Their efforts to scuttle the ship failed, but they managed to strike one more blow against you.

Or was it?

Cythera had her uses, but perhaps she’d outlived them. In any case, a new apprentice is needed.

Brakiss has proved himself more than capable of serving at your side, though n addition to power he has ambition, not the most ideal trait in an Apprentice, though it drives him to be more than he is. A hunger for more can make a powerful asset.

Hadrazel may be half-mad, but he has a strong connection to the Dark Side, one that may be expanded upon to your benefit.

The young Jacen Solo will be years away from practical usefulness, but maybe as an official apprentice you can start working to shape him as you like early, as soon as his reconditioning is finished.

It may also be possible you know of a better candidate or haven’t found the right one yet.

You are Alana Tyrna and you’ve just finished a fantastic meal. The restaurant Grand Inquisitor Amenge took you too specialized in local Byssian cuisine, mostly seafood, some of which you’d never had before. The two of you discussed the play as you ate.

Afterward, you rode back in his shuttle together, seated side by side and holding hands.

“You know, Alana,” he says.

“It’s funny because when I was younger I really did have such a crush on you. It felt like you were all I wanted.” he smiles faintly, “You were always surrounded by other people, You seemed so unapproachable.”

You feel your cheeks flush at his sudden bluntness. For the head of the Inquisition, he seems to wear his thoughts on his sleeve.

“Really?” You ask, “It’s funny because I feel like you’re the unapproachable one.”

“How is that?”

You blink, “I mean. You’re the Grand Inquisitor.”

He waves this off. “A title.”

“The Dark Side . . . it’s very obscure to outsiders I think,” you add.

“It’s a power structure like any other. Perhaps the only one that matters, but no different than the navy in some regards. Merit is rewarded sometimes.” He looks distant. “And other times privilege is.”

You don’t have time to ask as the shuttle sets down at the landing pad of his estate.

After landing he escorts you off the shuttle by the hand and leads you back into the manor. His droid leads the way, hobbling inside and bustling off, leaving the house silent save your echoing footfalls.

He takes you through a long, dusty hall, along rows of sealed doors, and into a dimly lit study. “Here,” he says, gesturing to a series of small, broken stone tablets in display cases. “The original tablets I translated the play from.”

You see the room is full of artifacts from tablets, to pottery, to small statuettes, even a few aged lightsabers.

“Spell books,” he indicates a worm-eaten leather tome. “And this.”

He picks up a chrome-handled saber marked with a few curling hooks at the bottom. Something about it looks quite old, but well taken care of.

He lays the saber in your hand, the metal rasping against your gloves. “It’s yours.”

You gawk. “M-mine? Oh, but I-.”

Amenge wraps his arms around you, pulling your back firmly against him so he half envelopes you. “It’s a gift.” He whispers in your ear. “In the Sith Empire, nobles would carry them. You may not be sith, but you are a noble.”

His thumb closes over yours and depresses the activation switch and a dull crimson blade hisses to life startling you.

“You’ll need some practice. It can be difficult for a non-force wielder to use, but it can be learned. I can teach you.”

You find it difficult to hide your excitement. “I would love to learn!” you reply eagerly, “But I don’t think it will be safe for anyone involved.”

Vende smiles. “It’s simply a blade that cuts at a touch.” He runs his hands up your arms to your shoulders, allow you to relax the blade slightly, angling it toward the floor. “You’ll be able to handle it I think.” he trails a finger up your exposed neck to the base of your ear. “I won’t allow you to hurt yourself. I’ve taught more difficult students.”

He leans in close, so close he could take your ear in his teeth or run his tongue along your earlobe. “You feel it, don’t you? What this blade represents is freedom.”

“Freedom?” you ask, suppressing a shiver.

“Peace,” Amenge says, his hands going from your shoulders to your sides, holding you just above your hips. “Peace is a lie.” He hisses the word.

This time you fail to suppress a shiver, an electric current runs through your skin.

“There is only passion.” He holds you tighter against him. “Passion is strength.” He reaches out and takes the saber from you, the safety cut off disengaging the blade, the crimson light dropping to black and leaving you momentarily in the dark. “Through strength I gain power.” He releases you and turns you around so you’re facing him, one of his hands on the small of your back, the other cupping your chin, turning your face up to his where you can see his eyes, faintly yellow, somehow burning in the dark. “Through power I gain victory and through victory-” he smiles at you. “My chains are broken.”

Now for heavy news:

I’m in the process of moving, and a house is being purchased. The final date for that is in November, which means I need to clean, pack, paint, and repair my current place to sell by then. That’s going to eat up what free time I have so I am going to have to go on hiatus until then. I just found out about the final date today so I’m sorry if this comes as a surprise and I’m sure no one things it’s good news.

I’ll still get the lewds written Because I’m that kind of guy but for now the main story is on hold. I hope by now I’ve shown that I’m reliable having run this thing since April of 2017 AND survived an indefinite hiatus. I’m hoping no one freaks out. I should be back by November. You can always harass me on Discord or Twitter or whatever if it makes you feel better.

For now, we wait here. I hope to see all of you guys back in November! I’ll keep you posted on Twitter and Discord for any updates. Thanks for playing all and see you then!

“Lord Brakiss,” you say, looking down at the man kneeling before you. “From tragedy is born opportunity. Darth Cythera’s death will be your key to advancement. I trust you will ensure that this is not a setback for me.”

“Of course, Master. I will do whatever I must.”

“I believe that you will,” you reply with confidence.

I believe that Amenge enjoys us, but is ultimately using us for what we can give him in spite of that. Political and military sway is useful to have, no?

What's funny is that I don't care, even though this might get Alana killed down the line.

Enjoy your time on break TK, you're doing good stuff, we'll wait.

I'm can't wait to see other characters' reactions to seeing Alana walking around with a lightsaber strapped to her uniform.
>>2865479
Say TK, after wrecking the Consortium and the Rebels what would you say Alana's military reputation is like? What do other admirals and factions think of her tactical skills?
>>
>>2865795
>Lightsaber
That might be difficult to explain any other way than "I am dating the Grand Inquisitor. Ask him."

>Reputation.
By this point she's a semi-established figure. She's not quite an outsider anymore. Perhaps more of a maverick than a black sheep. She's regarded as formidable and at worst competent, though her record has some dark spots on it. She's considered hot-headed and stubborn to a fault. She's aggressive and sometimes gets in over her head. When deployed properly this aggression can be used well.

I'd say the established admiralty probably regard her skill well but think she's been promoted beyond her comfort zone. That remains to be scene.

As for the other factions, the Rebels have her and Veers on a short of dangerously competent Imperials. The Hutts hate her about as fara s they can.

It's not known what Thrawn thinks about her, but presumably he has her figured out somehow and knows her shortcomings.
>>
>>2865854
That sounds about right as far as her record goes. Now that I think about it, Alana's infamous defeats seemed to involve her losing planets. Her being an agressive strategist fits well with her failures being when she had to go on the defensive.

As for the lightsaber, I'd argue if Lobkin can walk around with a white cape and a cigar then we can afford to look a bit eccentric ourselves. The Bloody Baroness with her blood red lightsaber.

>>2864631
>Killing kyle when you could capture him
That man is too good to die like a chump, atleast he could have made for a good apprentice, fists and all, oh well, still waiting for our death. We can't keep getting away with it, surely?
Also, Mara's story ended the way it was lived during this quest, underwhelmingly. Poor girl never stood a chance for some reason.
Also, expected the gift to be a lightfoil and not a lightsaber. That atleast is something an imperial could get away with.
>>
>>2866098
I felt bad for Sedriss myself. He seemed like he had potential to become a cool character and I was honestly rooting for him a little when he and Mara had their duel. At least in the end she was able to protect Tarkin, and I imagine her last fight with Luke had to have been pretty cool.

But that's fine now, I got a good feeling about Darth Kalopsis.
>>
>>2866172
Onboard security footage verifies: it was pretty cool. She fought Leia and Luke. Nearly killed Leia before Luke intervened. She managed to wound him but she didn't survive. The Skywalkers fled the ship afterward.
I also miss Sedriss. He was out of his league against Mara. As she was out of her league against Luke.
>I am dating the Grand Inquisitor

Oh, don't worry. Somehow Alana still has plans to spend time with Vells after this. I'm sure THAT won't be schizo or weird at all.

I hold out hope that Alana is a low power force sensitive and Vende senses this. His interest in her would make a lot more sense if this were true.

If she does turn out to be force sensitive, I would put her power and abilities at new jedi knight level max. That would make her superior to any padawan but somewhat inferior to a seasoned knight.
And I would have her abilities be focused on boosting those under her command. I'm thinking battle meditation and slight force precognition.

Fuck that would be cool.

>>2866098
Mara could have had an interesting story but the problem was ol' Palpy just wanted an attack dog. It could be argued that most sith apprentices are treated that way, but Sheev was rebuilding his empire and I think he just didn't want any sort of variables like an apprentice rebelling during such a crucial time so he turned her into a machine, not something of any substantial value, but quite useful all the same.

That and some of the players didn't like Mara, so she got the shaft. This is what happens when the players give up direct control. We might have been able to at least take skywalker with her, throw him into space with us or something.

TK, been rereading. If it's not a spoiler, who the hell was Vultyss? I assume the latest wannabee sith acting on behalf of the spirit, this time the uniter of the consortium. Sallin knew his name, a former Inquisitor?
>>
>>2881816
>Vultyss

Purely OC.

Vultyss was an apprentice of the Prophets of the Dark Side who chose to live in the style of Skere Kaan and present an alternative to the Rule of two.

It only occurred to me later that by its nature Dark Empire doesn't have viewpoint characters to explore stories like this. Players got lucky and destroyed his flagship while he was evacuating the Valley of the Jedi.

He was known to the Inquisition as a low level adept who showed tremendous promise. I did a bad job of introducing that element though, but it was intended that his name become known to the Dark Siders.

>Spirit
It's certainly a possibility it was involved, but Vultyss was his own man, this was bound to happen.
