/qst/ - Quests

Welcome to Steven Universe Rebel Ruby Quest! In this quest you play a young Ruby (who isn't one right now) who landed on Earth after fleeing Homeworld in hopes of becoming a Crystal Gem!

In the last episode We began a spar with the crystal gems, after we started getting our gem behind handed to us Lapis swooped into try and help us. This causes the two of you to fuse and in the confusion, unfuse. After this the gems with Garnet split up into two gems, and go to look for you and Lapis. They succeed and after bringing the two of you back allowed you to fuse into who you are now... Tanzanite

You are Tanzanite and right now you are facing The Crystal Gems. They are all looking at you with smiles on their faces. Elated to see that you've returned to them.

Well let's not leave them hanging shall we?

You get ready to advance on the gems, this is incredible, all of the gems are coming at you from all sides and you are able to read all of their moves and counter them as they come. As Garnet throws punches you grab them. As Pearl goes for spear jabs you avoid them. Whenever Amethyst lashes her whip you can weave through them. You've never felt something like that before. Well that was enough of that!

You jump up into the air wings sprouting from your back.

"Cmon you guys, I expected more of a challenge"

Garnet gives off a small laugh and jumps up into the air and goes to punch you but you simply grab and toss her back down.

You prep your gauntlets and look down towards them.

"Here I come!"

You fly to the ground at incredible speed and slam Garnet into the floor. With an incredible speed and accuracy you create several water spears and throw them at Pearl and Amethyst. The two rush forwards to you shooting projectiles and lashing out with whip beams. You weave through them with movements that are somehow jittery and fluid, as if with every jerk of your body you lead into another smooth transition to narrowly avoid the attacks before you.

P: Well Amethyst it looks like Tanzanite is a little more capable than we thought!

A: Yeah! Don't you think so Garnet?

you look to where you slammed Garnet into the ground and see her already rise up from her spot.

G: I do, maybe we should do something to even the odds a little bit. How about it you two?

Pearl and Amethyst simply nod from their positions on the side of you and jump over head both preforming a dance move on the way up. You attempt to jump up and beat them to the punch but something unexpected happens.

There's a sudden flash of light and sudden a blur goes past you readying themselves. You hit the ground and look to the figure only to see another gem, not Pearl or Amethyst. They were tall and had two arms on both sides of their body. They were dressed in a garb that was unfamiliar to you but those two gems were unmistakable. They were a fusion of Pearl and Amethyst.

"Who are you?"

O: I am Opal.

Garnet then walks to the side of Opal and summon her gauntlets and new pair of goggles as well.

G: Alright Tazanite let's go, it's one on two.

"Ha! If that would be the case if you're even able to hit me!"

The three of you rush forward preparing to clash!

Hey, Deku, if you were to make a tier list of combat ability amongst canon characters in SU, where would Rebel Ruby and Tanzanite fall? This is metagaming, but I think its a valuable point of reference to help us play them in the future.
>>
>>2866965
Uh okay let me think for a second speaking in terms of realism in regards to the show and not the rolls we've gotten

Opal
Lapis
Garnet
Rebel Ruby is equal to
Pearl
Amethyst
Steven

I don't think I can place Tanzanite on this scale just yet
>>
>>2866973
Also this only covers characters we've encountered in the quest currently
>>
>>2866975
Thank you! And also, understandable! This is valuable information.

If you're willing, could add in generic versions? For instance, where a generic Quartz, Sapphire and Ruby might fit in?
>>
>>2866976
Opal
Lapis
Garnet
Rebel Ruby is equal to
Pearl
Generic Quartz equal to?
Amethyst
Steven
Generic Ruby
Sapphire

Sapphire is at the bottom because we never actually see them fight so I'm not actually sure if they have any battle prowess, ice powers one thing
>>
>>2867271
She did have a 3 Ruby escort but it's not exactly clear if that's because of her status or her ability to defend herself.

Still though, our Ruby is stronger than the average quarts! That's pretty nuts.
>>
>>2867337
And even though she officially ranks under Garnet, the Gap is close enough that RR can win.
>>
>>2867384
I think a decent chunk of that was Garnet running on outdated info but it was a cool fight regardless.
>>
>>2867389
outdated information and also 20's can't forget those
>>
>>2867704
Still, the fact that there's currently only 1 nonfusion gem stronger than us is crazy.
>>
>>2867704
We having a session tonight btw?
>>
>>2868019
No were picking it up tommorow
>>
Well, a lapis is not a combat gem like a ruby but they have predictive abilities outstripping garnet and are actually shown to be incredibly fast. So combine those and the "Cold" abilities and she can dodge until her opponent tires or until an opening presents itself (I dont think she is "Ice" but rather "Cold" due to her inability to shape or control ice).

Also has anyone considered that rubies dont use "Fire" so much as "Heat"?
>>
>>2869098
I'm thinking it's more for escaping due to her value. Sapphire's can move incredibly fast to get away and leave ice to trip up pursuers. Speaking of had Sapphire ever summoned ice or cold from anywhere but her feet/lower half?
>>
>>2869098
I think you meant Sapphire and yeah that's a fair point to consider.

>>2869155
This is an interesting take on her powers, I never considered this, nice thinking there
>>
You know.... I can think of our fusion's element. Steam. Heat + Water = Steam.

As for a weapon... Well I dont think Lapis type gems are meant to be combatants. I think her gem classes purpose might be something along the lines of long distance scouts (Their space flight capabilities) with water abilities to aid in self defense.

I think our weapon might be something along the lines of a bomb glove that generates pressurized steam bombs. Also add in some stealth skills in the resulting steam clouds and 3 dimensional maneuvering and thought brought on due to the ability of flight and lapis's experience with said mode of movement and we have a ninja gem with pressurized hot water and air bombs at her disposal.
>>
>>2871857
While it's a neat idea we are still pretty huge as Tanzanite. It would make it a bit hard to hide.
>>
>>2872118
I floated some steam possiblities in a previous thread. In a sufficiently large steam fog, Tanzanite could still hide, especially if she's light on her feet, like the Georgian Folk Dance influence would suggest.

Tanzanite has been confirmed to have gauntlets (plural), though if they've changed in behavior we don't know. Tanzanite can also fly, but its not clear by what mechanism (water wings, steam wings or otherwise).
>>
>>2872138
Makes sense but while Ruby seems to generate fire, Lapis only generates a small amount of water. It really depends on how mixing our powers work, which is up to Deku since there isn't any really hard rules in the show.
>>
Opal and Garnet rush directly at you with the intent to attack, you got a watch it and be sure that you're ready to counter.

You hols your gauntlets out and brace yourself!

>>
You brace yourself...

And are completely overwhelmed by the other two gems, Opals new size and speed catches you guard, combine that with the already face paced movement of Garnet and it's almost like your just a training dummy for them

You get knocked around and swung by your feet constantly. At some point Opal used her own weapon to shoot an arrow directly at you

G: Tanzanite!

You look at her

G: you're still trying to fight as if your ruby and sapphire you're not two gems you are one fusion!

She's right, if you want to win you need to start fighting as yourself not as your components

You look deep inside yourself and activate...

>Your plasma, using the heat from Ruby to make Lapis' water go beyond boiling point, you can now use this superheated air as a weapon
>Your steam, making Lapis' water go beyond boiling point you generate steam, giving the ability to condense it and use for other means

>>
>>2872635
Alita is pretty fucking sweet. Good taste anon.
>>
because steam allows for much more utility and while plasma may be better for all out offense it lacks defense to the extreme. Steam allows for wide range attacks, utility uses like stealth, and is pretty dang devastating.

You ever see the results of high pressure steam on a person? It isn't pretty..... It is actually worse than being burnt by fire in some ways.

your plasma

Rolled 7 (1d20)

I get that steam would allow us to be more versatile, but I just really like the sound of plasma.
>>
Ok so that's a sixteen, pretty solid!
>>
Dammit, you choose the boring choice.
>>
You suddenly feel a growing energy in your hands and suddenly let out a blast of super heated plasma in the direction of Garnet and Opal. The two of them immediately side step away from the blast surprised

"Huh, well that's a new one"

The two gems go at you once more, maybe it's time to put this new powers of yours to use!

You focus yourself and try to give the plasma in your hands form, you try to mold.to be what you want it to be.

When you open your eyes and spread your arms, held within your gauntlets are two whips made out of plasma that lash into the air and fall to your sides

G: Now this is what fusion is all about

Garnet smiles as she sees how you progressed

O: Oh goodness! Sorry I zoned out, are we still fighting?

You simply smiled as you throw yourself forward toward the gems with your now plasma formed wings behind you. With a flourish you spin in the air your whips spinning around you as if they're streamers on your form and you give a smirk.

Now the true battle begins! Again, forreal this time
>>
Thats the end if this session guys! As usual talking after thread is appreciated and I'll be here to answer questions!
>>
>>2873083
Thanks for running!
>>
>>2873083
Thanks for the run Deku! Will we be able to learn how to use steam eventually as well or is our powerset locked in?
>>
I'm worried that Plasma Whips might be too good a weapon. That is to say, in theory it should be instant poof on contact, which means that in order for a fight to have any duration, narratively, we have to miss a lot.
>>
>>2873449
That was a power lock in yes, i can't let you guys have your cake and eat it too because then Tanzanite would become a bit too overpowered, if you guys really want it maybe sometime down the line when the enemies get a little more dangerous I could potentially have you do some training to see if you can use the steam efficiently

>>2873467
We'll say for the sake of the quest, that they're as powerful as any other weapon in show
>>
>>2874594
Hmmm, maybe make it closer to just super heated water rather than plasma for the whips? It isn't insta poof but it is still pretty high damage on par with garnet's electric gauntlets.
>>
>>2876318
Hm if you want I can maybe change it so that Tanzanite does have Plasma abilities but it's the highest level of her power and normally she just has the steam or incredibly boiling water whips at her disposal

Maybe since it was her first time fusing she just was able to tap into that pure fusion energy
>>
>>2876553
We could have it be that steam is easier to use and less draining but plasma is a bit more difficult and much more taxing.
>>
>>2876769
that is also an option
>>
>>2876769
That works. Plasma would definitely tire us more. Then again Ruby likes to finish her fights as fast as she can and Lapis is not a combat Gem.

You try to hold onto the whips only for them to rear back into you sending you backwards and as you hit the ground your form shimmers out and you transform back into Ruby and Lapis
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are Ruby and you have just experienced something that you never thought you'd experience in your life as a Ruby, you look over to Lapis and it looks as if though she feels the same.
In front of you Opal defuses and Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl walk towards the two of you
A: Soooooooooo?
G: How was it?
Pearl simply clasps her hands together with a soft smile. She really wants to to know what you thought.
You stop and look at your gem again, it was an odd feeling, having two different gems and then in an instant having only one again. It's as if you lost something you were never supposed to have in the first place. You look to Lapis again and she is staring at her hands as well, she looks almost confused? You're not sure what to describe the look on her face as but she seems to be slowly registering what just happened
G: I understand that it might be a bit much at first but as time goes on it'll get easier to understand
You look up the gems and say...
Absolutely this. Ruby is enthusiastic and energetic always. Especially after something as unique and incredible as that.
>>
>>2882523
Its notable how freely she expresses that enthusiasm and energy. Not that its a unique trait among Rubies, but I imagine on homeworld, its discouraged, at least when other (especially high ranking) gems are around. Its nice that Ruby's spirit was never broken down.
>>
So, Tanzanite's theme. What would it be? Every gem has an instrument associated with them (Pearl is a Piano, Amethyst is an electric drum kit). According to the wiki, Lapis' is a Celeste/Celesta, best known for the 'Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy'.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10B3e3k6CVs
Since its a rare instrument its kind of hard to find songs that mix it with a specific other instrument.
To the best of my knowledge, we haven't really picked an instrument for Ruby yet either, but I want to share a song I heard recently. I forget where it was linked, might have even been in a previous thread:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypuaJLHK_LQ
I like the idea of this song as either Ruby or Tanzanite's theme, and the electric hurdy gurdy as one of their instruments. Even at the most calm its a steady drone, and it quickly becomes more energetic, complex, even frantic, but still coherent, which I feel could fit both Ruby or Tanzanite. I like he feeling of restless power it has.
Plus, I could totally see someone doing the spinning moves of a Georgian Folk Dance to this.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9Qhb2Q8AYc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXuuiFuuT4o
I'm thinking a mix of classic and hip hop accompanied with Georgian folk dance inspired combat. Not necessarily this song but similar to the genre mix.
That was amazing! you quickly run up and hug Lapis in the process you manage to lift her up off the ground!
"SHE WAS SO COOL! WE WERE SO COOL! I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT HAPPENED!"
you look at Lapis in you arms who you realize hasn't said anything.
"Wasn't that awesome Lapis?"
Lapis stays silent in your arms seemingly contemplative
"Lapis...?"
Suddenly Lapis bursts into laughter and spins you around in a hug
L: "Shale yeah we were! We were so fast and strong and cool! I've never experienced something so great!"
P: Oh goodness, we've so much time here!
Pearl was right, the sky over the arena was slowly turning to Dusk
P: Maybe we should all head back now
>Yeah okay
>Actually, I want to train with Lapis a little more
Looks like we're going home! Writing!
You and the rest of the gems decide to head back home, You and Lapis take a quick fly over to the Car Wash and get ready to head inside only for you to notice your pod is still landed there.
"Oh right! I forgot I was able to bring this over"
L: you don't think that puts us at risk or anything right?
"It shouldn't though the external damage to the ship was minor i wouldn't be surprised if some of the pieces on the inside got banged up"
L: Okay that's good
"why did you ask?"
L: Well, it's just that I'm worried what would happen if Homeworld found us
"Eh that's not a big deal! I'm rough enough to knock em all down!"
Lapis lets out a slight giggle and sighs
L: Yeah I guess you're right
The two head inside, blissfully unaware of the things outside of their control
You are Hessonite you are currently on board your vessel trying to find the source of you Prisms energy
It seems fruitless but you know you can find it, you need to find it, of course you also made a vow to Sage agate that you would find that Ruby of hers. Maybe you could search for the ruby first? Decisions decisions
>try and locate the prism
>try and find the Ruby
>try and locate the prism
The Ruby is a secondary objective
It is *just* one Ruby after all
You decide to try and locate the prism, you have your ship set a course for what the current most powerful power source in this star system. You quickly get a match and set a course
"It is just one Ruby after all, they can wait a little while longer."
Your ship flies through the cosmos and decide to sit down and ponder as it automatically flies to its next destination. You remember the last battle you fought with that prism before you unfortunately lost it.
Such a thrilling time in your life, its almost shame that the war was over once the diamonds decided to use their final attack. You rarely have any opportunity to cut loose and have a good battle. Speaking of.. how exactly did that last prism battle of your go?
>>you recall that it was
>during a fight with one of Rose Quartz's factions
I doubt she'd do well against Rose 1v1, and its a good opportunity to flesh out the larger body of the crystal gems.
Incidentally, I really enjoyed Protect the Light.
Hessonite went down like a bitch, even with the Crying Breakfast Friends badge. Steven spammed the item that improves bond on Pearl and Peridot, and they just laid down three lucky super turrets.
>>
Okay so Here's what I'm gonna do, I'll end it off here and pick it up next thread since a battle as Hessonite is a good place to start a new episode!
so
