/qst/ - Quests

There was nothing. No colour, no light, no sound, it's actually quite boring really. Yet you feel something pulling, tugging you towards existence.

A hot sandy, almost lifeless area save the oasis you are in. But who are you?

> Raven, a flying black omen. A Messenger to all those who use them, and a questionable companion.
> Elf, there are few beings in the desert which you can truly call sentient, the copper coloured elves of the desert ignore all of them.
> Centaur, not quite your traditional centaur, resembling a camel rather than the usual horse, yet a centaur none the less.
> Rock, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
> [Write in] Maybe you have an idea of your true identity.

You awake with a blasted headache, where are you? Where are you from? Perhaps more importantly, who are you? The first of which isn't exactly heavy thinking.

Above you, which greets your sight first, are fronds of palm leaves, granting you shade in this blasted desert. Slowly rising you count the numbers of trees...
"5...6..." 7. 7 trees, some of which may bear fruits, the thought of which seems to make you salivate.

A small watering hole completes this oasis, the body of water no more than 5 or 6 body spans wide and 2 or 3 spans vertically. Walking over and looking down into the pond, aside from seeing your own reflection, you note that your arm could probably reach the bottom, further out like reaches deeper.

Looking out into the lake you see a few glints upon the water. Perhaps a hidden treasure? Or even a clue as to who you are, or maybe it was just the sun or even your stomach talking.

Looking out to the vast desert, you can only think to yourself how lonely this area seems to be, not even an insect in sight. For what reason is this?

> Collect your thoughts, see who you are and maybe what you are capable of. Though with this headache this may take some time.
> Climb the trees in search of fruits. Though this may be perilous considering how uncertain you are on your feet.
> Water, wash and drink yourself. Cool down from this sun and perhaps some of these items will prove to be hallucinations of the heat.
> Wade, towards the centre. You are certain you saw something, but what was it?
> Leave, this area is much too quiet, and maybe there is more out there.
> [Write in] Or maybe another idea?

You hesitantly reach your hand down into the water...

> Collect your thoughts, see who you are and maybe what you are capable of. Though with this headache this may take some time.

You look deep within yourself and start collecting information.

> Water, wash and drink yourself. Cool down from this sun and perhaps some of these items will prove to be hallucinations of the heat.
>And the water is cool and moist, its real. Cupping your hands, you bring it to your mouth and taste it... then you start drinking it. Soon you are sinking your face in to feel the full effect.
(Fuck yeah boi)

Starting to take your clothes off, you submerge yourself in the water. A much-needed bath to cool your overheated body. Yet you notice scars running along your arms and back, and a mark on the palm of your hand. What is it? No matter, this is a thought for another time.

A while later you feel completely refreshed and once again check your surroundings.

"5... 6... 7... 8?" Has that tree always been there, or were you simply too dehydrated to notice it in your deluded state? None the less, trees mean food.

Looking further into the water you see that same glint, maybe this is something important, maybe it is just the sun. Who knows.

The world outside this oasis is looking less and less comforting. You have water here, potential food and safety. Out there, there may only be death. Yet this still feels strange. Maybe a search of the surrounding area will help now you are in a more sane state of mind.

> Climb the trees in search of fruits. This is now much safer you are rehydrated, yet with nothing to help this will still be risky.
> Wade towards the centre. You are certain you saw something, but what was it?
> Search the surrounding area, maybe you will find something?
> Leave, this place is queer.

> Search the surrounding area, maybe you will find something?

You look around, starting with a cursory search of the area. Lots of sand, not a lot of life. Yet you look back to where you first awoke, underneath one of the palm trees and find start looking around.

The results are fruitless. Too much time has passed for any footprints to make note of, hell even your own are quickly fading away. On top of this, not a single insect in sight.

You dig down into the shaded sand for a period of time and see what you can find. Instincts tell that you should be able to find some form of life, perhaps you've done this before, yet after a period of time digging all you find are a couple of dead centipeds and scorpions.

Walking around to count the trees one more time, you walk to and touch each one.
"5... 6... 7?" Maybe it was imagination after all.

Walking around to the other side of the oasis, beyond a small dune, you see the glint of a metal rod... and chain?

> Why are the insects dead? There must be a reason.
> Hunt for the missing tree, you are sure there was 8 at one point.
> There was a rod and chain beyond the dune, this means life of some kind. Perhaps it can help, if they are of your people.
> Leave, there is nothing but mystery for you here.
> Wade, a good distraction from the madness onto another one will surely jog your memory.
> [Write in] Perhaps another idea will suit.

>Hunt for the missing tree, you are sure there was 8 at some point.

You ascertain to yourself that there were indeed 8 trees, and if one had decided to appear and then disappear it is a concern worth worrying about. The chain can wait.

You search about and...

You count the trees one last time, "5... 6... 7... 8!" and dart towards the location of the 8th tree. You see the image flicker fade away before a tiny panicked whisper,
"Go! Go!"

You attempt to follow the rustling in the underbrush, yet prove unsuccessful as this is followed by a pitter patter of a small creature rushing away on the sand. But not before you catch the sight of a yellow furry tail and a set of translucent... wings?

The tree is now gone, and the spellcaster which cast such a spell is gone with it.

Do you...

> Wade, a good distraction from the madness onto another one will surely jog your memory.

You decide to leave the creature, if it wishes to hide from you then so be it. As long as it does not bother you of course.

Wading out towards the centre of the water, where you once saw this glint of light. First the water starts out knee deep, yet soon it becomes waist deep. You quickly catch yourself before you take another step, a blue drop barely big enough to squeeze your body through, yet deep enough to trap yourself in if you get stuck.

Perhaps the glint came from within, but is this a risk worth taking?
