You are Mike, just Mike, barely a day out of recruitment into the criminal organization Team Rocket. You and your partner were successful in capturing a new team member from the abandoned appliance factory in town. A Pokemon you’ve never even heard of before and from what you’ve seen it has some kind of ability to possess electronics. Being an orphan doesn’t lend you much knowledge about the technological advances these days, but you were well aware of the potential this small new partner could have in your less than savory activities. You haven’t even released it since you caught it, your hand unconsciously kept the ball in your pocket tightly in your grip, as if someone was about to steal it away at any moment. It was your first true catch, something you dreamed of since you were a kid. Though maybe not exactly as you imagined, it still took most of your effort to not just release it now and greet your new partner with a childish glee.

The problem was, you didn’t know if the thing would listen to you at all or not, or really anything about it. Hell you were barely familiar with your own original Pokemon’s abilities. Your new electric partner is probably still damaged from the battle anyway and would most likely be more accepting of its new position if you were to have a potion on you when you release it for the first time. In the meantime, you probably should find out some info about your Pokemon somehow, either through book learning, practical application, or just winging it and learning as you go.

Though winging it and learning as you go feels like it would be a fast track to getting caught. Not like you were in any hurry for crime, yet. You were told by Parched that the new operation spot you opened up should cover your criminal activities for a while, but you understood the second meaning behind what else he told you. The higher ups have taken a fleeting notice of you and your quick gaining of assets for the Rockets, and you could use that attention to get a quick promotion if you played your cards right. You just needed to figure out something big enough…

You estimate that you have roughly 1 more week before they lose interest and write off your quick and large contribution as just a fluke.

>Call in Batch, you could use some advice or supplies
>Head to the library, time to learn the old fashioned way
>Head to the Pokemon Battle Grounds, if not to battle to at least learn by watching
>Wing it, do something else… (Write in)

Some general info about the quest;
-Please quote the post you are voting in, not really a rule but it helps me a lot
-If you are changing your vote, please quote the original vote you had as well as the post the vote is taking place in, once again mostly for my convenience and efficiency
-All rolls unless otherwise specified are 1d100 and best of 3; 1-3 is a crit fail and 98-100 is a crit success
-Wait for the vote to be done before making any rolls
-I appreciate fanart, discussion, fan omakes, etc. I don’t appreciate autists going on rants when other Anons don’t like it as much. This is 4chan, I shouldn’t have to tell you to grow thicker skin or to ignore bait.

Last note I swear. I am gonna be testing the new role saving system. This may take a session or thread or two depending on circumstances and how many rolls are done, but I’d like feedback on any adjustments that you guys might want or if we should just toss the system entirely after it is tested. The new system is as follows.

>Once per session, you may choose to save a naturally rolled 98-100, which will be referred to as a crit success, of any roll to be used at a later time. IE you can’t save a crit if it is a 97+1, but a 100-4 would be fine.
>Once saved, the roll that the crit success was banked from will gain the 2nd highest of the amount of dice requested for the roll instead of the original highest roll.
>It is not permitted to save a crit success from a set of rolls that has a natural crit fail (1-3) as well, as they cancel each other out and the 2nd highest roll is taken.
>There may not be more than two of these crit successes saved at any one time.
>The saved crit success must be used prior to the actual roll, and cannot be used once the dice have already been rolled for an option.
>The crits can only be used for actions directly taken by the player character, Mike, and conversely can only be gained from an action directly taken by the PC. IE you can save a crit success on Mike pick pocketing and use it on him passing a bluff roll, but you can't save a crit success from a Pokemon attack or use a crit success on a Pokemon's roll.

You needed the knowledge on how best to use your new team member, as well as your older one too. Information should be priority one right now. You yourself over. You’ve been fairly active, but your clothes should be clean enough to get in the library, you don’t think you needed a card either. Not like you were going to take anything out, at least not that they knew of.

You knew of three places that could have the info you needed. The Saffron City Public Library, big place and little questions on you being there, but finding what you needed with no help would be an issue. Next was the local Pokemon School’s more condensed library, it would probably be easier to find what you needed, but more questions would be asked on why specifically you were there as you weren’t enrolled. You could always just try and find some bookstore with the info you needed, but you’d need to steal from it, or just ‘browse’ until you were kicked out. You honestly probably should call in to get some supplies if you do end up wanting to steal something. You don’t really have a bag or anything to keep said loot out of prying eyes vision, that place you cleared out has to have been worth some credit.

It’d be best to start where little to no questions would be asked. So you make your way to the city’s public library, not much of a popular place anymore with the advances in technology making it relatively obsolete. Why search thousands of dusty tomes for hours when you could just type in the question in a handheld device and get the answer in seconds. Personally you think you’d prefer physical objects, something about the idea of it just being data on some device not having the same weight as actually owning the thing. Though, that could just be your have not lifestyle affecting your opinion.

Your first major roadblock was reached when you arrived at the front door of the hub of knowledge, that being a sign. Specifically a sign with what appeared to be a silhouette of some Pokemon in a circle with a cross through it, the bold words ‘All Pokemon must be in Pokeballs beyond this point’ under it. It made sense really; books and wild creatures that could spew water, fire, and all sorts of other destruction probably wouldn’t mix very well. The problem with this was you weren’t sure if Zhu wanted to be put in their ball.

Hell you weren’t completely sure if you wanted to keep your partner in its ball. For your short time together your partner had been right by your side, or rather right on your head, the entire time. It would be like something was missing if you were to just stuff them into the ball, even if they were just a button press away. There was just something comforting about the weight of your partner on your head.

>Go in anyway, try and keep a low profile
>Hide Zhu under your hat

“Sorry Zhu, you need to be in your ball for me to get in here.” You say to your partner. You can’t see their expression on top of your head, but the sound it makes doesn’t sound happy. Taking out Zhu’s ball you return the Zubat to the Pokeball with a flash of red light.

Stepping inside the library you see shelves upon shelves stacked with books right past an vacant front desk with a few books strewn about and a bell. Maybe you can ask someone for help?

Stepping up to the desk you take a quick look around to see if anyone was actually around. Didn’t seem like it, your attention is drawn to the shiny brass looking bell sitting on the desk, practically calling to you. Instinctually you reach over and give it a brief ring, giving you a bit of a primal joy at the sound. You wait for a moment, and no one seems to arrive. Out to lunch maybe?

A little out of the desire of not starting from scratch in your search and a little out of the plain fact that pushing the button on the bell just gives you a small dopamine rush every time you push it once more. You wait a second, and press it again. Another second of nothing, and you push it a few more times. Soon enough you are distractedly tapping the bell, over and over again. You don’t know how long you were there playing around with the bell, but you were brought out of your trance as you heard a soft voice behind you.

“I- Uh… Sir… do you need something?” Your time spent noticing little things in the city was probably the only thing that let you had even heard her over the sound of the bell.

Flipping around you feel your face heat up in embarrassment from being caught acting so childish. You see an equally flush girl, probably a few years older than your tender age of 13, standing there. A stack of heavy looking books that you were surprised she could even hold.

“Yeah, sorry about that” you say sheepishly. “I was just wondering…”

“…If you had an encyclopedia on all the Pokemon? I’m having trouble navigating through the library.” You explain.

“Oh… have you been here long… sorry…” She seems a bit downcast that she may have inconvenienced you. Her black hair covers her eyes either unconsciously or just her desire to avoid eye contact with a stranger.

“Would you like one of the more scientifically reviewed ones or maybe something simpler would be appropriate for you…” she says thoughtfully. She seems to realize something “not that I am saying you’re stupid or anything I just- You see… You are kind of young.”

You could see it, with your malnutrition you weren’t the biggest or most healthy looking kid. Heck some might even mistake you for a 11 year old on a bad day. Regardless that wasn’t the important thing at the moment. You needed information, and in a way you can understand.

“I don’t need something super in depth and scientific, I just need an overview of what their capabilities, mannerisms, possibly training methods, and that kind of stuff. And I need something that is as varied as possible, I want to see as many Pokemon as possible even if they aren’t normally from around here.” You tell her to try and get her to stop trying to desperately dig herself out of her verbal hole by digging further.

She seems to take the chance to shut her mumbling and apologies down and actually move on to something else. “Yes of course!” you can hear the relief in her voice. She sets down her books next to the desk and she begins to lead you into the maze of bookshelves.

One thing you notice immediately is how swift this girl is. You actually have to do a light jog as her quick strides through the books outpace your normal speed. Last thing you wanted to do was to be lost in this multi-floored maze of tomes. She begins to make odd turns and you start to lose your sense of direction. You notice she occasionally swipes a book off a shelf as deftly as you swipe a pocket of its cash, yesterday non-withstanding of course. You are actually having trouble keeping up with the girl, you are used to the city yes, but the city made sense logically and you were used to weaving through crowded or cluttered area. This was just straight shots with random turns that just served to disorient you.

Despite what you told yourself it was much harder than you’d like to admit keeping up with the book girl. You almost lost her completely but thankfully she decided to stop in some clearing that was… right in front of the front desk? How in the…

“Here are the books you requested.” She quickly pushed the stacks of books she had so casually been practically sprinting through the shelves with. The weight was overbearing and the sudden shift almost made you lose your balance.

“Will you be checking these out now?” she quickly said. It almost made you feel like she was trying to rush you out.

“I was just planning on reading it here…” you tell the librarian girl.

“Sorry- I wasn’t trying to kick you out or something. I mean, it’s not like you are a bother…” she begins to go on one of her tangents. You decide it best to simply just leave her to her own devices, you think you saw a table and chairs a little ways a way. At least you hope it wasn’t to deep in that labyrinth.

You had some research to do…

I've been looking through some of the newer pokemon that came out after I stopped buying the games and I have to say pawnard/Bisharp feel like they'd work well as part of our team. Helps that they're meant to be ruthless bandits that group ambush their prey and slice them up with their prey. If that isn't rocket mon material then I don't know what is. It's unlikely we'll find one but it'd still be cool if we do.

Can confirm you probably won't find these in Kanto. The only reason Rotom was in a Kanto appliance factory was for commercial sabotage from a foreign company. As I said before if something is out of region is in Kanto there should be an at least somewhat believable reason. Johto Pokemon are fairly close and with the train between regions it isn't that hard to assume that their might be some invasive species between them. Things like migrational bird or fish Pokemon could show up too depending on where you are. Saffron is landlocked and doesn't really have much of a reason to have trainers from regions besides Johto. Go to a coastal city and you have the potential to find out of region trainers to steal from.

Reading through the book provided some enlightening information, sure it wasn't as in depth on some subjects as you were hoping it would be. But regardless, you had far more info than you original had. You learned the names of the attacks that Zhu used as well as the name of a few future moves that the tiny bat would eventually learn, as well as what it would metamorphize into. A Golbat and then eventually a Crobat. You had found far less information on your new ghostly partner, Rotom you mentally corrected yourself. While you weren't able to learn about any kind of moves it would eventually learn you were able to review some other electric and ghost type moves it might learn by looking over other Pokemon of similar typings, as well as what you recognized from your initial fight.

The information you found was fairly interesting, if a bit vague. The ability to infect and possess most electronics was an invaluable tool for your line of work. Rotom would be an asset as long as you could control it. From the little info you were able to gather on the Pokemon while considerably friendlier than most ghost types, though it still had a mischievous streak. With its possession ability that little fact didn't really surprise you. Another odd quirk of the Pokemon was that you found out it had different forms with different moves and typings depending on what it possessed. Your mind wandered to your first encounter, how it blasted you in the back with a water type attack. It made sense why it resided in that appliance factory. The question was, how did a wild Pokemon from the Sinnoh region end up in Saffron City? Your first thought was some careless trainer, but you have heard how Pokeballs don't work on already caught Pokemon and they would be tracked back to someone if they made trouble. Someone had to have captured a willingly capture it without a Pokeball and transport it all the way to Kanto. Your only thought was some kind of cooperate sabotage. The only thing that really made sense from what information you had.

You held off naming your new Pokemon until you were more aware of what it was, but now seemed as good a time as any. Though it might be prudent to see its personality a bit more before you decide to name it... You didn't call it an it out of uncertainty for it's gender like with Zhu, Rotom was just outright genderless. not particularly surprising since it was a spirit made up of ectoplasma and electricity. Regardless you racked your brain for a possible name.

Would you like to nickname your Rotom?
>Yes (write in)
>No, maybe later
>No, it doesn't need a name

Still not gonna start til 6pm, just wanted to give some time on the discussion of nicknames for Rotom.

I think it would be more interesting if Mike had somebody to lift him up, doesn't have to be a love interest.

I think we had already establish the MC was bad in giving names. So i went for the less original one.

I agree with this sentiment! The only problem is weather QMM is following the game or anime for Slowking's evolution path.
>>2901372
Also not true we actually don't have to train the shelldar since the shelldar just needs to bite slowpoke on the head or slowpoke just needs to be holding a kings rock while being traded in addition to slowpoke needing to be level 37.
>>
>>2901784
It's a little bit of both really, it's a case by case basis really. For Pokemon with trade evolutions there will be other means to evolve them.

I like this name

So we just need to train a slowpoke till it's strong enough and stick a shelldor on its head. A slowbro is fine too but having a super genius on our team would be pretty useful.
>>
Well first we would have to find a slowpoke.

Kinda want to go on a "Rocket Raid"

Some good news and some bad news. Good news is that I got a bunch more freetime. Bad news is its because I broke my right hand, so I can't really type efficiently with only my left hand. Probably gonna have to go on hiatus.

Thanks for sticking around, and sorry this is how it had to end for now.

Just use google docs on chrome. It's already included in it, you just have to go to tools and go to the mic. I thought it was common knowledge.

Hope this post will help maybe some Anon out or QM. If they didn't know that.
