>Wolves are predators who keep the deer population in check to prevent a famine amongst the pray. Slink worms are parasites who feed off of the host's food in the intestines and would eventually kill said, host. So I asked my classmate if Vampires were predators or parasites. The answer kept me awake that night. - Sabrina Schnider, combat surgeon serving in IX Korp "Lorringa", graduate from the class of 1396 from the University of Île-de-OccitoniaEnjoying a little too much with the ale before you. You knew you shouldn't be drinking on the job but the boss let it slide if there were only a few patrons inside or when closing up. It would still be one more hour before the tavern officially closes. Taking a wet rag you were whipping down the tables and stools as the other barmaid counted the number of mugs they had behind the counter. One of the drunks, a male Elf, had fallen asleep in the corner of the dimly lit room and a Dwarf was vomiting his dinner right next to the entrance. The last of the happy Human friends gathered themselves to stumble out of the tavern leaving only the passed out patron by himself. The moon shined on the quick peek of the other sickly Dwarf as he ceased vomiting to then grab his bag from the table he hurriedly ran from to vomit. >Anja, do I really need to double-check this? Can't I have a few quick sips before leaving?Ingrid said with puppy eyes while bringing her hands together to plead with you. She was a frail skinny brunette Elven girl who was working here for a few years. It seems she referred to you as you're her senior in this establishment.>Well...You unconsciously begin running your finger through your blond hair while thinking about it.>Pretty, please with honey on top.>[Give into her plead]>[Maintain uncompromising work ethic]>[Write-In]

Repeating the words in a thick Rheenisch dialect like your uncle said when he was a Sargeant back a few years ago on Vestfront. Using those words should refute any argument for laziness with most decent people. The city that they were in, Kranzborg, was located within Osterraisch so it was appropriate you would use the phrase.>Oh, come on!Slumping her head down in defeat, the Elf went back to start counting the mugs again while you would go to the table of the sleeping drunk to take his bowl and mug.Just then, a hooded man walks into the tavern. No, it would be suspicious if he just had a hood on, what he had on was a proper cloak. That was a bit odd too as Kranzborg didn't receive any rain for a while now and it didn't start snowing yet. Both you and Ingrid eyed him suspiciously and he seemed to notice that as he clumsily took off his cloak. >I'm sorry to bother you nice girls but I appeared to be lost. You see I'm a merchant from Entwarp so I don't know this city terribly well. I was wondering if anyone of you knows the way to the local Zekumit Temple.Ah, yes, Entwarp. The Imperial free city of merchants, ships, and rain. Gloomy depressing endless rain, at least the colorful native tulips could almost uplift a foreigner. Now it made sense why the Entisch often carried a cloak with them everywhere they went. The Vampire brought your head closer to him as the fangs sank deeper into near the collarbone. Trying to kick him in his nethers, he brought his knees up to block your kick. Failing that you were getting weaker when you tried to hit him with your tray. Effortlessly, he batted off the item to be flung to the other side of the street as he back-handed the thing with his left arm. As quickly as he looked to kill you, he ran off across the street then jumped up to a window ledge to fling himself over to the roof of the apartment. >Anja? Anja! You could hear Ingrid running up behind you as relief fills you then something else. Pain, and plenty of it as you remembered you were stabbed. Falling face first into the mud of the street, you could barely hear anything while fading to darkness. Shaking to wake up Anja but the Human didn't move, Ingrid was fearful of what had transpired but saw nobody else in the streets.>Sombody, call the Vaktmen, medic, anybody! Please help me!The first thing you notice when waking up was the smell of your hair, specifically the smell on your pillow of it. The next thing was how sore your entire body was and the place where you were stabbed hurt enough to almost scream. Moving your arms about to stretch your muscles.>So, you're not a vegetable. I was afraid what with the blood loss, stab wound, and possible wound infection, you could have been dead.>Who?>No need to speak, I'm Doctor Albrikt Pferdsattl. It seems you were stabbed in the back by 5 blades but thankfully, they only dug into your flesh by about 1 Raischtaler in. None the less, you did still lose a lot of blood somehow. I was feared I would still lose you despite patching up that wound.>Thanks, Dok.Laughing before speaking,>Don't thank me yet, you still need to rest, drink plenty of filtered boiled water, and eat plenty if you want to recover quickly.>But what about some Likt Vassa>No, nothing with alcohol! >>2895687Nodding your head slowly, Doctor Pferdsattl bid you good day before leaving you alone in your apartment. Ingrid came in just a moment after the doctor left, it seems she was waiting for him to leave before tending to you. Sick of laying on your stomach as you were supposed to, you sat up hunched as to not let anything touch your wound. Drinking plenty of water at first, you asked Ingrid to bring you real food in the form of milk and bread for breakfast. Unfortunately, you threw up moments later. For lunch, Ingrid brought you onion and spinach soup with a glass of water. Again the food came jumping out of your stomach before you had to drink more water to clean the vomit stench from you. For dinner, Ingrid tried something different with goat milk instead of the earlier cow milk and salted pork. This time nothing happened, no vomit or upset stomach or queer smell. Nothing but the delight of tearing and ripping apart the flesh before you in a bestial hunger while gulping down the meat with warm milk.>A-are you fine? You're acting like you've never eaten before.>What? Oh, it's nothing it's just that...Thinking as you rub your chin, you wondered why you kept vomiting all day. >>2895701>>2895703>>2895704>>2895740>[No more vegetable!]It has been 3 days since the attack and you have managed to recover for the most part. You can basically walk and do things on your own but things like running and lifting heavy loads are out of the question. Even going out to walk and talk with the neighbors during the day as you have grown increasingly restless and bored from staying in your bed all day. Ingrid would insist and try to keep you from leaving your home but she could only take care of you in the morning and late at night when she comes back from the tavern, basically giving you free reign in the time between her visits. You noticed something different in the walks that you take outside to get the fresh morning air, it felt oppressive. It was as if the daylight was beating you down to make you feel depressed from merely shining on you. That had started to feel more pronounced as your skin grew paler like you were sick when you first looked in a mirror. Something worst happened by the 5th day as you kept eating a vegetable-free diet, where you couldn't enjoy bread like the wonders of Hefekranz, very itchy rashes began appearing on your skin and knew sailors contract it for their lack of fruits in their diet. Logically you ate fruits to cure yourself but naturally, you vomited back up as soon as you ate them.First came the heightened senses where you could hear, smell, and see a rat scurrying near your front door as you lay awake in your bed unable to sleep. Next came boredom, then finally you caught a rat with your bare hands just because you felt like it then something else happened. Something you didn't like happened as you sink your teeth into the torso of the helpless little creature to drain him lifeless. That made you feel alive in a manner indescribable but you needed more blood than this tiny thing if you were to fix yourself.>It's me, I'm coming in!>Wait! That was Ingrid for sure as you could smell the jasmine perfume as soon as she walked up the stairs to your floor while you were busy draining the rat. Throwing the rodent away to a dark corner as you ran back to your bed to hide under a blanket. You could hear the pounding heartbeat of the Elf as she slowly walked into the room squeaking the floor in a way you've never noticed before. It was like her very presence was making you act like a longing lover that wanted to embrace her as fast as possible. This was especially odd considering she was like a younger sister to you but you knew something back was going to happen to her if she stayed too long. The back of your mind also told you if she leaves, something worst was going to happen to you.>Something wrong?>Nope, I'm fine perfectly fine...>No, there is definitely something bothering you.>[Act normal]>[Ask her to stay]>[Ask her to leave]

And a true friend would never leave you while you're in an agitated state like this.Knowing she was going to stay over for the night, Ingrid took out and rolled flat the bedroll you had at home for such an occasion as the bed wasn't big enough for two people. The closer she got to the bed the warmer she felt to you, like a pleasant spring morning. She set on the side while you sat upright covered with a blanket. Every inch she got near filled you with dread at what could happen and made you sweat as your hands became clammy.>Tell me what's bothering you.>Have you ever done something you didn't think you would do or something you would regret.>Yes, I guess I have.>How do you deal with that?>Ah, I would say it's like spilled milk, you can't cry about it but you have to make the best of the situation. Now, let me check your body heat.Suddenly she held up her hand to your forehead to feel if you contracted a fever or cold. It was just then that you noticed your fingernails that held the sheet close to your chest. They had appeared to be more like the sharp tips of trowels than anything Human should have, it was just in that moment that you remembered your nails extended to become more like claws when you were catching that rat. You didn't care enough back then to pay any heed to it as you were too busy hunting that creature. Ingrid saw the way Anja changed her demeanor before her when the Human's nostrils flared open to take in deep breaths. There was a clear red blush forming on Anja's face as the Elf stared into the girl's eyes which might cry or beg for something. If not for the naturally quick eyes of Elves, Ingrid might not have noticed the unnatural sharp ears much in the same way as cats than Elves. Anja shuffled a bit in her bed as the Human's eyes became red.>When did you-https://youtu.be/QxHx91vIRwABefore she could finish what she was going to ask you, fangs sank into the poor Elven girl's nape as your arms embraced her in a vice-like grip. There was only a quick yelp in pain before Ingrid loosened up to you. The entire affair was driven by instinct while your claws dug into both fabric and flesh to keep her still. The Elf muttered how it was unexpected and "Didn't realized you had-" something or rather, you didn't notice much of it as you were relishing the rich flavor of the blood. There were adrenaline and fear radiating from Ingrid but something else you couldn't identify.>Friend not Food>Don't Kill>STOP!The sudden warning from your own body forced you to open your eyes as your fangs retracted to a smaller form. Looking back in horror, you prayed you didn't kill her. Checking if she was still alive, you could hear the rapid heartbeats from her.
>>2896433It didn't feel right but by the Gods did it felt satisfying. You could see Ingrid's limb weak body dangling on your arms as you kept her upright with your strength. It would be best for Ingrid if you let her sleep on your bed, you thought as you kept her upright while silently slipping out of your blanket. Once you were totally free from the bed, the Elf was placed under the blanket and tucked in like she was the softest thing in the world as not to wake her. You began pacing back and forth about what you've just done. The girl almost died because of the monster you've transformed into but thankfully the matter had a better ending. The act of draining her was something you didn't fully understand but as soon as you could feel the blood making you feel full, the rashes on your arms and legs slowly stopped itching. Well now this was something to note, blood prevented you from receiving those rashes but what about the carnivorous diet? You know you can't live off of meat only meals with the income you make, it was just too expensive to eat like that. It would be fine if she was a merchant or noble but the only tie to nobility was an Elven knight on your father's side many generations ago. Looking back down at your fingers, the claws were retracted to become normal nails again. Getting in the bedroll, you tried to sleep but the distress of worrying about Ingrid's health kept you awake for a while. When the first of the sun's rays slid through the blinders to wake you, now would be the best time to carry the Elf to the bedroll as to make it seem the entire things was a nightmare for her. Surprised with both the spring in your step and the lightness of Ingrid, you picked her up slow as not to wake her. Yet as soon as she was lifted off of the mattress the girl woke up with a soft yawn.>Gutin Morg, Anja>Oh, schaissa!>Looks like you couldn't sleep last night.Nodding you swallowed your own spit wondering if she could remember last night. >What happened last night? I must have drunk a lot, for Elven standard.>Is that so?You were hopeful that she didn't know much. But something tells you that wasn't the case when Ingrid gives you a goofy smile with a blush.>What I do remember was you giving me a hickey. I expected to sleep in your bedroll not sleep with you. We must have went all out because I'm exhausted. You know, I didn't know you felt like that way about me but you have to remember. Around Elves, watch yourselves. The last sentence was said with a lighthearted shy smile although it would normally be used amongst anti-Elven racists. Now it appeared that Ingrid got the wrong impression about what happened last night but she wanted to know more, filling in the gaps in her memory by you explaining to her.>[Kick her out of your home]>[Lie that you slept with her]>[Confess you drained her]

Showing Ingrid that you were perfectly capable of taking care of yourself by lifting her up without breaking a sweat. Even when changing the bandages to new clean ones, both of you were surprised that it fully healed. Not even a scare or blemish reminded them that she had 5 holes there just 6 days before. It must have been the vampiric regenerative abilities that healed in such an extraordinary way and it must have been those vampiric claws that also ripped into her flesh instead of blades. >Also, Anja. Be careful about Vampire-Hunters.The worrying eyes from the Elf pleaded you not to do anything irrational. These Vampire-Hunters were infamous as the medicine that was worse than the sickness. Ingrid left you alone at home after you told her the story of how you turned with that attack. As you cooked your lunch, you remembered the Entisch Vampire who turned you, black-haired with sharp features, and brown eyes. The different parts of your mind talked to itself to expand upon the ideas and question swirling in your head.>Who was he?>Now what?>These meat-only meals are getting expensive.>How could I even find extra money?>Should I investigate this on my own?>What about Vampire-Hunters?Heaving clear goals with smaller steps to take them is what is needed at the time or else she could lose focus.>[Focus on extra income]>[Focus on tracking him]

>>2897474>>2897511>>2897514>>2897621>[Focus on extra income]Well prostituting yourself was out of the question, not to mention dangerous considering the amount of Tiefling pimp toes you would be stepping on. I didn't matter if you were a Vampire or not, they would have found a way to take you out then quarter you in the sewer tunnels. That as a risk too high to be taking for you to get some extra coin. Talking about coins, you remembered that the Raischtaler was part 1/10 silver and would be unhealthy for you if you were to say bath in coins. Another thing to consider was you needed to be flexible enough to track down the Entisch Vampire as well if you ever found any leads on him. Joining the military and Vaktmen was out of the question when you considered it. With your newfound abilities, you could take a monster contract where you would bring in the head of a monster too troubling for either the Vaktmen or the military to deal with. Although, you would be woefully underequipped to hunt a powerful creature. But the more dangerous these contracts are, the more money clients are willing to shell out. You had a hard time imagining running around with a silver sword, chains, and covered head to toe in chainmail. You not only heard of but seen some Monster-Hunters voluntarily mutated themselves with cat eyes, claws, and scales for better combat performance. There were also the Dungeon-Crawlers who acted one step shy of looters but fancies themselves as archeologists who just happens to be rich. The main difference between the two types is that being a Dungeon-Crawler tend to be a lot more dangerous and they also have the express right to plunder anything in sight as long as it didn't violate their contract. This trade paid even more than monster hunting as there was more to loot but it was also much more dangerous as well when considering the countless who entered Elven ruins to never be seen again.Putting these thoughts for later at the back of your mind, you prepared to go back to the tavern later tonight since it seems you are more than fit enough to work. Back at the tavern, the night was pretty mundane as any other. Thankfully, a brawl didn't break out inside the building itself for any of the workers to care about. Just when you were about to leave for home and was saying goodbye to Ingrid, there was the sound of racing heartbeats and the smell of fear coming from behind you around a corner. You turned around to see nothing but noticed that there was an alley between the tavern and the butcher shop.>Something the matter?Ingrid innocently ask but that was answered when a woman screaming then a man running off in the street away from you and out of the alley>Please help! Cutpurse! It was clear the man was running off with a pouch full of coins but he wasn't terribly fast. There was an urge for you to chase after him and hunt him down like he was a hare and you the hound.>[Chase after him]>[Call the Vaktmen]

Just as when the stone was about to hit in the head, he dodged it in the nick of time before running around the corner of the street. This made you fill with rage as the swine wasn't even looking at the stone when you threw it. Knowing that the skirt would trip you up when running, you ripped the fabric in half below the knee. It would look odd but it was efficient enough as you began running. Normally such physical activities would quickly tire you out but in this instance, it was anything but tiring. What was more is that this was exhilarating and the thought made you run fast than you thought possible. Soon you were going around corners and alleys leaning your body to steer. Just when it appeared you could tackle him, he ducked to slid under a cart. That had forced you to unexpectedly jump a meter into the air to avoid the wooden vehicle. Then ran up some boxes to hop from one saddle to another on horses tied down outside an inn. Not wanting to make another such public display, you slid under the 4 horses to appear on the other side before the cutpurse could jump off of the last mount.Grabbing the criminal scum with claws extended to sink into his flesh, it seemed there was no escape for him. That was until he headbutted you right in the teeth.>Schaisa! Ma teef!Wiggling out of your grasp when you staggered back to cover your mouth.>Here's the pouch. The cutpurse said to the Dwarf as she tossed the bag to him. The culprit was a woman, no, maybe a she-Elf, it was hard to tell. The Dwarf looked at you with inquisitive eyes with a hint of mischief.>You want me to give back this bag its rightful owner?>Ja!>Catch! He said that after moving the bag behind him with his right hand then tossing something with his left hand.>Whaf dis?>Garlic bread. The Elf answered holding back laughter. You looked down to see your claws retract along with your fangs when the bread was in your hands. Another thing you see is that your hands broke into itchy red rashes all over. It burned like Helheim making you drop the food when you have time to react.>Hold still, I have an ointment for that. The Elf said rubbing the burning substance on your hands. She would stay quiet as the Dwarf spoke.>So you are a Vampire!>No I'm not!>Girly, we wouldn't be good Monster-Hunters if we can't tell the difference between a Human and a Vampire.>What do you want! The Elf gripped your hands as to prevent you from easily running away.>We have a proposition for you if you are willing to listen but if you would rather not, we would have to take pretty little head off.You could see the silver sword the Elf was carrying while the Dwarf was ready to tie you up in chains in a moment's notice. >[Flee]>[Stay]>[Fight]

>>2899167Let's see if it becomes a running gag
>>28991673 I think, the first being the Entisch Vampire killing her outside then infecting Anja after killing the other drunk sleeping Elf. The second is when picking what not to eat as it could leave you too thirsty and end up draining her totally. The third is if by saying or acting normal to make her leave which can drive you into a blood rage if you picked the wrong food. That would have ended with Anja chasing down Ingrid in the stairs to rip her limb by limb as Anja would try to eat the entire body.
>>2899176Kek, poor poor elfie, hope we can continue saving her of a tragic demise. She apparently has a crush on us also, maybe she can try to woo us.these hunters would probably try to kill her or use her if we tried to do something stupid I bet

Unless you're after the Schvinhund who infected me, why couldn't you have talked to me like a civilized person? You would switch back to your thick Rheenisch accent when cursing them out by calling them "Gods' damned murder bums". This made the Dwarf give off a hearty laugh but the Half-Elf with the creepy cat eyes spoke.>We needed to test your actual superhuman abilities see if you weren't just another tavern wench. That and to make sure you can't run off when we're making this deal.>What do you want from me then?>You see, we've been contracted to hunt down this degenerate shit who's been killing since he left Entwarp. The very same Vampire who infected you and is now somewhere in Osterraisch. Now, we need some vampiric assistance to track him down.>Can't you do that on your own?>We can but it would just be much faster if you helped us. Heck, we'll even give you a share like you're one of us.>But why me?>Because you were supposed to be a decoy for us to chase. I mean come on, a recently turned Vampire rampaging through Kranzborg with no idea how to be discreet. You were baited for us plain and simple. He thought it would be enough to throw us off his trail while he lay low.As the tension eased both of them, both begin introducing themselves to you. The Half-Elf, an Osterling, with the red hair and cat eyes was Yelyzaveta of Kiev, also known as Yely for short. The Dwarf was Casworon Mac'Duannan and he came from the far island nation of Eier, supposedly it was a land filled with drunks and fairies. Yelyzaveta, on the other hand, was from beyond the eastern frontier in the Zardom of Belogradie Kiev. You asked if the tales of nomadic wild mounted tribes were true and sure enough apparently it was true. Although she didn't want to talk about it, Yely confess that she was banished nobility after she had fucked up a wedding or two. Casworon seemed like a thrill seeker who grew bored of Eier and arrived in the mainland to become a Monster-Hunter. While Yely was wondering around in the empire trying to make enough money to be invited back into court, Casworon was moving everywhere. He had been in the lands of lilies and blood that was Voolon in the far west, to the far north in the formerly independent kingdom of Droukranz Rike, and just west of the border to the fabled land of knights and honey that was Occitonia. They had met in the city of Entwarp when they both took the contract to hunt down the Vampire who littered the city streets with disemboweled corpses. Once the duo began working together, they almost caught him until he fled the city. After leaving the city the two discovered that the Vampire was none other than Thijs van Anderland one of the members of the city council from the guild of shipwrights.>C: You will act as bait to make it seem Thjis' plan worked.>V: That means you will need to leave a drained corpse for the public to find.
>>2899282>What!>C: Don't worry girly! Now, shouldn't you be thankful we found you first instead of the Vampire-Hunters.>I guess...>C: So you best be resting up and buying yourself proper Monster-Hunter gear because we won't be helping you on this one.>Why not?>V: Remember, we're tracking Thjis in the meantime.Eventually, everybody parted ways but Ingrid was worried sick about you and waited by your front door until you came home. After you assured her you were fine, you had to explain to her what happened. Which only made her more worried about you. You had even talked about quitting your job to make more money to feed yourself, although monster hunting might prove too dangerous for your liking. Anyway, you didn't have enough money to buy the gear but it seemed there were more than enough contracts to earn money from.>[Take an easy Monster-Hunting contract]>[Find your first victim]

Even if you are an influential Vampire noble that might not prevent them from killing you with what looks like an accident.Clerics, Inquisitors, and Vampire-Hunters are the only ones in organizations of some kind. But Monster-Hunters, Dungeon-Crawlers, Bounty Hunters, and Mercenaries aren’t bound to any organization.

>>2899384We might also want to get changed into some proper clothes. Like pants. Were currently in a wench outfit with a short skirt.
>>2899403>>2899384Ingrid can probably help us with that, either with clothes or pooling up money
>>2899384>>2899354>>2899328>>2899312>[Take an easy Monster-Hunter contract]You talked to Ingrid about moving together to save money but she suggested it is because she was your "friend that was a girl" and wanted to marry her. The idea was quickly laughed off by both as she agreed to find a place big enough for 2 people instead of the tiny place you were staying in. On the next day after breakfast, you changed to proper hiking pants you never use but a friend bought for you one time. Bringing a bag with the biggest knife you had and a club, you made your way to the crowded bulletin boards in a place called "schtatplaz" where all the important contracts and announcements were given to the public. There was a bunch for bounty hunters, home renovations, and sewage cleaning. Passing by the blacksmith who sold to Monster-Hunters, he was selling silver swords for 100 Raischtalers, gambeson armor for the same price, and hunting chains for 50 Raischtalers. All of these things were way out of your price range until you came back with a least one contract fulfilled.>Aktun! Nix is attacking people near the Elb river right outside of the city! 75 Raischtaler for its head! (One Monster-Slayer dead)>Hlfer! Tower cursed with a magical barrier and refuses any to enter unless a riddle is solved! 100 Raischtaler for answering it correctly! (Two Monster-Hunter dead)You know the Nix is some sort of aquatic creature that lives in rivers and drowns people. But you need more information than that before hunting it down properly. The cursed tower, on the other hand, looks to be as easy as answering a question. Meaning you didn't even need any weapons. Others are eyeing the contracts you were looking at too. It appears one of them is making a move to rip the parchment from the board unless you take the contract first as you were closer to the board.>[Nix Contract]>[Tower Contract]

>>2899499>[Tower Contract]>>2899532>Fuck I just realized we may not be able to kil it without a silver sword. This alone brings to light a rather pressing problem for any future Monster-Slaying; We likely know absolutely nothing about monster weaknesses. A Witcher we are not. Once we have more money and proper gear we need to look into acquiring books or cataloqs on monsters.
>>2899499>>Hlfer! Tower cursed with a magical barrier and refuses any to enter unless a riddle is solved! 100 Raischtaler for answering it correctly! (Two Monster-Hunter dead)
>>2899588that means tower contract btw
>>2899585I specially thibk a silver sword is necessary seeing as it is being sold right next to the contracts
>>2899601vampire claws could work. as long as we take solo contracts, or group with people who know, we may be able to manage. We're also allergic to silver.
>>2899608>Vampire claws could workPossible, but I'd rather not risk field-testing before we're more knowledgeable about Vampires and monsters in general.
>>2899608Given that Monster Hunters are known to take bioaugs and mutate themselves, we could probably pass off a lot of our abilities and weaknesses as "cheap augs that had some allergies; eh, it was worth saving 100 Silver off the premium price".
>>2899499>"friend that was a girl"Ingrid you sly fox!
>>2899532>>2899568>>2899585>>2899588>>2899724>[Tower contract]Snatching the parchment before the other man could make a move, you make your way confidently to the address written on the contract. As you make your way passed the blacksmith again you wondered if carrying around a silver sword would be good for your health. You realized that so long as you don't touch the actual metal blade it should be fine. That made you also curious about how useful your claws were, putting the contract into your bag, you extended your claws in a dark alley to check them. They only grew just about a bit beyond the length of a fingertip, making them smaller than a fruit knife. You tested the sharpness of the tiny things when stabbing a wooden box which made the planks buckle as your claws went right through the wood. Again, you did the same thing but with a broken cage, you found near the gutters. This time the claws did cut right through the metal floor of it but the floor was too thick for you to properly slice in half. Then you remember you could still call in a favor from a monk at the local monastery as that place must surely have tomes on the Nix. Thus, after one conversation with a monk who made a fool of himself and an escort through the Temple library, you received a tome titled "Vasser Teir (1372 AT edition)" or "Aquatic Creatures". You quickly read the book while in the building.>Nix or Neck or Nikker or Nokke or Näck or Näkki>They are a type of aquatic monster that first appeared as far back as 300 years Before Transition which is almost 1700 years ago. It is known that some claim them to be water spirits, but the reality of the matter is they are a physical type of shape-shifting creature who preys upon the weak, foolish, and young who wonder near rivers they inhabit. They might seem humanoid but their legs are replaced with a fishtail, webbed hands, and teeth as large and sharp as sharks. When attacking the eyes also become totally black lacking an iris and another dangerous feature is they seem to be able to track blood underwater. Monster-Hunters known as "Viedzhmin" in Tallia were the first to the notice that much like Werewolves and Vampires, they were easily poisoned by silver as well. From the Viedzhmin was the long tradition of silver blades and arrow or bolt tips. Later experimentations within the Vilhem Society at Nurrenborg has found out that they have a fatal allergic reaction to hornet stings and cactus juice. It is recommended that fire is the best way to scare them off but luring them to be burned with enchanted oil set upon the water's surface also works as well. With that nice bit of reading done, you make your way off to what you originally set out to do. Once you arrived at the tower you were greeted by a female Gnome who explained to you she wanted to buy this property in her father's name but it was cursed. The first two tried their luck with it and now you see their corpses piled up in a cart.
>>2899852It seems the Gnome also expected you to die as well, for the cart was still waiting to fill up with another body. The story went the first Monster-Hunter answered wrong and the man's mouth and nose had water coming out as he drowned to death. The second was the lizard-like Draken who also got the answer wrong to have him electrocuted. She told you to step up to the front door to receive the riddle for else you couldn't answer it. Then you did just that, the building itself spoke out of the windows and doors it had.>Nevazh neacha schina povalizh drizheva>Nyevidome neacha pelen doteku>Besvartozhoma neacha nizben dou nozichar>Ki jestam? You turned back to stare at the Gnome as you didn't know a lick of Talski but then she just tells you to come back to her. It might have been useful to learn the language of the refugees who flooded the city in the aftermath of the Veselben Wars and the anschluss of the former Veselben provinces. Thankfully the Gnome gave you the translated version of the riddle in Alomanisch.>Weightless yet knock down trees>Sightless yet full of touch>Worthless but essential to life>What am I?It would be something you can't see, can't weight, or price. But it was something you need to live, can knock things down, and touched all the time.>[Write-In]

>>2899913even if we're wrong, what's it going to do? fill our lungs with air? Do we even breathe? Also, dick riddle. Electricity totally meets all the requirements.
>>2899913good, let's go with air then
>>2899863>>2899874>>2899881>>2899922>Chemi jest Aria! The Talski words translating as "What is air?". You though whoever made the riddle was a bit of a prick as the Draken was also technically right. The thought was interrupted when you were hit with a sudden stream of air in the face you couldn't escape. The force was so fast that you were gasping when the air was chocking you out. But as fast as the air hits you, it also stops in time to prevent you from passing out. All seems well as the doors and windows stop moving wildly from the wind but there was a deep rumbling coming from the courtyard underneath. Before you realized what was behind you, there was a golem standing 2 meters tall. It was a big thing with rocks and smaller pebbles falling off of it. You could mistake it for something that was falling apart if it weren't for the fact it hit you with its fingerless hands to crush your ribcage. The blows sent you a meter flying back to the wall of the courtyard. The Gnome had long run off as soon as the wind picked up after you answered. You could see the glowing (assumed) heart of the thing which grew vain-like tendrils to keep the entire standing moving. The actual veins themselves looked nothing like stone but more like vines from a tree, it wouldn't be that hard to cut it out from the rest of the body. Looking around you to plan something out, there was plenty of boxes to slow it down but would have to run around and that would hurt like Helheim. Looking back into your bag there still that knife you had but maybe your claws would be better at ripping out the stone heart.>[Use Boxes]>[Use Knife]>[Use Claws]

>>2899975>>2900142>>2900007>[Use Claws]https://youtu.be/1008Abms9xI>What horseshit is this!? I solved the riddle correctly, didn't I?>I forgot to mention the previous owner embedded a golem as an extra security system!>You didn't mention this why?>Because I didn't think the doors and windows would break! The scared Gnome shouted over the wall blocking the courtyard off from the streets. The stone guard jumped at where you were standing to smash some boxes behind you but you had jumped out of the way with your unnatural reflexes. Your ears deformed and nostrils puffed out to take in more air. Extending your claws as there were no observers around, your mind raced to calculate your surrounding to judge if you could lunge in to rip out the heart in one swift motion. You deemed you could make the jump to attach yourself onto his torso then slice the veins apart. Thus it seemed surprising that once you made the actual leap onto his torso, it swatted you out of the air like a fly. You were still confused and was getting up from the boxes you landed into when you noticed one thing. The rocky monstrosity has broken your neck as you looked down to see your back and heels instead of your breasts and toes. Quickly grabbing your head to rearrange it back to where it was supposed to be facing, you could marvel about it after the fight. This time you decided on a different approach where you ran at the golem then jumped on a nearby wall to launch yourself behind it then jump again to latch onto its back. The magical automaton was quick to respond by trying to crush you on its back but you were too fast. As you scrambled to the torso's front, you got close enough to the heart to begin slicing. Within the second you realized your claws weren't long enough to slice all the way through the veins. Opting not to give up since you got here so far, you tried to physically rip out the heart instead of cutting it out. That was interrupted by the golem smashing your spine but resumed with desperation and greater resolve. The fight ended with you ripping the heart to send it flying away from the mineral monster while its crumbling body buried you. >Ma Raischdaler>Oh ja! Naturally!>Danga>TrussYou could bearly speak with your broken jaw, the smashed spine made you stagger, and the ribs poking your lungs made every breath a nightmare. but you did manage to take the pouch of 100 Raischtaler from the Gnome then limp your way out. Every step you took was filled with pain and anguish. All you wanted to fall on your bed and sleep like if it was a coffin. It didn't help that you stayed about 3 hours in daylight, making you that much weaker. It was as if the very celestial body was sapping away your strength to live. If not for your Vampiric traits, you should have been dead. You were sure that these wounds would heal over time and shouldn't leave permanent damages.>[Go to your home]>[Go to Ingrid's home]

>>2900823yes. do this.
>>2900823>>2900834>>2901021>[Go to Ingrid's home]You knew you would heal from all of the wounds but it would hurt like Helheim if you didn't get treated to have them heal sooner. Honestly, you didn't have the steady hands or expertise to fix yourself up like Ingrid could, that and you just wanted to see her. While you were walking home you neared the city gates where much of the Tallian refugees stayed. Noticing that you were covered in your own blood, people kept away from you but you could increasingly hear their heartbeats and it seemed all your other senses were heightened as well. That must have been your unnatural need to drain the nearest victim as you have lost plenty of blood. You wanted blood as soon as possible and you would want to avoid going into some sort of blood rage killing Ingrid if you could. Thus surveyed the area for any unsuspecting people and hidden location to drink from. Finding the right man for the job, you spy a beggar in an alley far from the view of the public. When he noticed you approaching he spoke.>Could you spare some alms for-The Elf didn't get a chance to finish as you punched him as hard as you could as he was bowed down to the ground. He had a thick Slovski accent but you didn't know which reservation he came. The Elves from Veselben all sounded and looked the same, you never understood the reason why they all tried to exterminate each other during the wars. The blow was strong enough to knock him out cold totally. You got to work transforming to drain him quiet like a mouse. There was no restricting voice in your mind to limit yourself when the fangs drained as much as it could while you were reduced to a more bestial form. You didn't know this Elf and your body seemed to have no care and acknowledge that fact with apathy. By the time you were done, you left him on the ground like he was curled up sleeping and checked his pulse. It surprised you that he didn't have one, you didn't mean to drain him completely but you did and it killed him. Leaving his deathly pale corpse behind, you rushed to Ingrid's home as fast as you can in a panic.>Gods! What happened to you?>Took a contract, solved a riddle, fought a golem.Ingrid's eyes were filled with tears and appeared that she was about burst out a waterfall at any moment. But thankfully she didn't as you could never see to stand her cry looking like a puppy who got kicked around. She was gentle when patching you up and you were sure that you weren't going to look like a deformed monster when you healed up. Closing the cuts and quelling the bruises helped you sleep at night as your friend refusing to take an eye off of you lest you do something stupid like that again. Not realizing it until you were about tofall asleep, you had killed a man then left his drained corpse for the public to find.>I'm starving!>Oh, you're awake. I thought you would die on.>Why would that be.>You were asleep for 12 hours.>[Shopping!]>[Investigating the Entisch Vampire]

>>2901586>>2901553>>2901538>[Shopping]You went near the schtatplaz again to the same blacksmith as he was repairing a sword. The prices went down for both the same armor and silver sword as it became 90 Raischtaler instead but the chains were still 50 coins. The gambeson armor had the checkered blue pattern of the proud highlanders' coat-of-arms, you think your paternal great-grandmother was from Hochalomanen but you need to check.>On sale?>Ja, too many Jagdkatzen dead. Not enough people to buy my wears except for the military and they don't use light armor or silver swords.Monster-Hunters within the empire were given the endearing nickname "hunting cats" for their often self-inflicted mutation of cat eyes while in Tallia the Talski name "Viedzhmin" stuck because peasants thought they plow witches giving them mutations. You also thought about how there was an alchemist selling a pair of potions for 20 Raichtaler, today he was selling Clout, a concoction that almost prevents you from bleeding for an hour. Considering the ease that got thirsty due to said blood loss, buying such a thing to prevent that wasn't a bad idea. That would mean you could either buy a silver sword, or the light armor, or some chains and a set of Clout vails. The chains would also be useful for slowing down monsters but maybe not like golems since it would be broken. The silver sword wasn't as hard as steel swords but you assumed they made killing most things with magic integrated into their bodies easier, like Nixes and sorcerers. There was also the fact that even that light armor would have prevent you from being covered in cuts by the golem as well but the blunt damage wouldn't be negated. That was also taking into consideration the extra money needed for meat as surely you need to repay Ingrid for raiding her cold box and taking all of her chicken. There would still be more than enough money left over to feed your self for more than a week.>[Chains+Clout]>[Silver Sword]>[Light Armor]

>>2901673>>2901688>>2901689>Silver SwordWaving the silver sword proudly about, it makes you think of all the tales of how the heroic Jagdkatz jumps in at the last moment to save the princess. Much was like that in the tales of the 'Black Cat of Rheenland' which your parents told you growing up, leaving out the parts where how painful and bloody for the Black Cat the stories actually were. Like in all good stories, you needed to name your weapon and thought about it for a few minutes before you dubbed it "Vampirsfluk" meaning "Vampire's Bane" when you would use this to stab his heart killing him. Yet that was still a far-off goal for you. The Monster-Hunters coming up to you while you were undressing your sword from your sheath almost startled you if not for the fact you smelled them coming a block away.>C: Good job with that golem, Ms.Schubak. For a second there I thought it would have beaten you to a bloody pulp there.>It did.>Y: Da, I thought you would have died before you could even bait him out.>C: Also nice handy work with that beggar, the city criers are announcing the news that the mayor has invited a pair of Vampire-Hunters to hunt you down.>Great... Wait, how did you know I even took that contract.>Y: There're things called surveillance spells, hired a wizard to cast them on you.>C: Girly, I honestly expected to hear some moaning when that lass was flirting with you after you drained her.>Can you not!>Y: Sorry, no can do, need to keep track of you in case Vampire-Hunters or Thjis finds you.>C: That and we wouldn't want you to go to Thjis for protection.>Why would I-?>C: Just a precaution, lass.>Y: But you'll need more than that to become a true Jagdkatz, but we best be going now, right Casworon?>C: Right! Farewell, we need to check if Thjis left the city via the gates. You waved them goodbye as your attention was drawn back to the boards. You thought it was always funny how the strange accent of the Dwarf made him roll his "R" sometimes. There was that Nix contract again but this time there was 2 Jagdkatz dead instead of the one. It seemed the other Monster-Hunter you saw before died trying to hunt the water creature down. You didn't like it but it was true what Yelyzaveta said, a silver sword didn't make you a Jagdkatz but you needed even more money to buy something else. But you weren't a Jagdkatz were you? You were just a tavern wench with a vendetta. But maybe becoming a Monster-Hunter could help you hunt down this degenerate.>[Take the Nix contract]>[Find leads on Thjis]
>>2901724>[Take the Nix contract]Did they bump up the reward now that there are two dead?
>>2901724>[Take the Nix contract]Being a Monster-Hunter would go a long way in helping to create a cover; our vampire powers and allergies can be explained away as Monster Hunter bioaugments and their peculiarities.Though the fact that there's 2 Vampire Hunters coming here, and the pair of Jagdkatz we're working with have said NOTHING of what will happen to us if the Vampire Hunters get us before they can come to an arrangement, or Thjis leaves the city while the Vampire Hunters are on our trail, makes our situation pretty shitty.
>>2901734Oh, I forgot to mention that the reward for the contract went up to 110 Raischtalers due to another dead Monster-Hunter.

>>2901786We'll have to be careful not to get Ingrid wet
>>2901795If the monster hunters are still listening they may get the wrong idea. Could be fun.
>>2901734>>2901738>>2901746>[Nix Contract]Before departing you had Ingrid help you come up with an experiment to see how long you could stay underwater with the help of a bucket. Ingrid helped you saying if it prevents you from looking like before she would help and that she like seeing you scaroused. It became obvious when she kept touching your hair to pull out in case you actually start drowning and there was her breathing up your neck. You managed to stay submerged for a good 2 minutes before coming back up for air, that was better than expected since you never did learn how to swim despite once growing up next to the river Rheen. After feeling the ill effects of the sun weakening you after a fight, you decided to set out to the address near the Elb river once the sunset. It was a piss-poor village with one boat for a fisher who had gone back home leaving his boat outside his cabin. Unlike the cement roads of the city, this place had muddy dirt paths with overgrown vegetation everywhere. You asked the locals about the Nix and they all told of how it would snatch up livestock that go to the river to drink or playing kids, even going so far as to attack then drown people on boats traveling along the river. The one thing you were sure of was that all the attacks concentrated near this village. You drew closer to the river along the wooded path where almost nobody lives until you heard a shriek.>Ah! Guh h-helf!https://youtu.be/hDWsTdpVSo0There appeared to be a naked ginger teenage girl grabbing onto a tree stump as everything above her breast was above water while there was thrashing about. She was clinging to the tree corpse as if her life depended on it but something was forcing her body to slip deeper and deeper into the murky depths. There was clear movement in the unclean liquid but you could make it out as you slowly approached the girl careful not to slip then fall into the river yourself. Yet she smelled different, different than any of the mortal races you've encountered as a Vampire. Something that you've smelled in fishes making you draw your sword as you remembered how Nixes can shape-shift. that action caused the girl to stop struggling suddenly before lunging at you. The sword was enough to deflect the attack sending her to your right, it was then you saw she truly was naked but lacked legs replaced with a fishtail. Then she transformed to revile the empty black eyes, shark teeth, and webbed hands. The Nix grew bulkier with broader shoulders and bigger muscles from a teen to full adulthood within a few seconds. Knowing nothing about swordsmanship, other than the action plays you saw, another attack proved to be unlucky as she rolled away from your attack before jumping at you before you could pull the weapon out from the ground. The Nix punched you in the face to stun you as it used its powerful jaw to drag your body to the river.
>>2901832You suddenly opened your eyes wide when you realized you were about to meet your watery grave. There a great struggle to wrestle control from the Nix but it was in vain when the monster bites your left shoulder to paralyze that arm. You know you couldn't break free from the beast but you could still kill it when the Nix's head faced to your left when biting the shoulder. Both your claws and fangs extended when as sword must have been left above water on the ground as you were dragged here. It was a slipt second chance choice to attack the Nix with either your claws or bite it back. You could try ripping the jaw from her head with your claws as you were sure it could slice through its bones and prayed the bones weren't too thick and that might not kill it either. The fangs can still do work draining the Nix totally to kill it but you weren't sure you should be drinking monster blood. The pain from the munching from the Nix made it hard to plan as it felt like your left arm was going to be ripped off of the torso. Maybe you could reattach it or you could grow it back as a Vampiric trait but you didn't want to test it.>[Claws!]>[Fangs!]
>>2901835>[Fangs!]Drinking monster blood is usually a bad idea, but I don't know how bad, and we need some blood for our healing to start.
>>2901835>[Fangs!]Suck her dry
>>2901842>>2901843>>2901848>[Fangs!]>Never drink bodily fluids, especially if it's from a stranger. You remember that advice from your mother when you were draining the Nix dry but this was an exception. Different from the warm rich flavorful Elven blood which made it similar to wine, each person slightly different. Nixen blood was cold and lacked any sort of flavor, you almost regret drinking from her if not for the fact the Nix stopped thrashing to grow weaker and weaker. After a while, the cold monster was dead floating in the water as you brought both her and yourself on dry land. The jaws of the monster still latching onto you postmortem but you weren't bleeding thanks to your armor. But by Hel, you knew that there was going to be a bite mark with so much bruising it wasn't funny. This time you used your claws to slice off every individual tooth on the jaw to slowly slid your arm free. Knowing you still needed to present her head to the village elders, the Nix was brought to the tree stump. Once she was in position for a clean decapitation, you stood over her executioner-like. Failing to build up speed with the first swing, your sword got stuck in her spine. The next swing was much easier as the cut was clean. You made an "ew" face while bringing the head with the teeth inside your bag. As you learned from your father, much like handling raw meats the trick was to not get bloodstains on your body. The kids threw pedals in your direction when you announced you killed the Nix then presented the elders with the head for your Raischtalers. One Dwarven girl gave you a flower crown to wear as you walked back to the city with a happy smile. The victorious thoughts as you near the city walls were interrupted with you vomiting the Nix's blue blood along with some of the chicken from last night. But it didn't stop there, your body kept trying to vomit something that wasn't there as you leaned on a signpost vomiting air. Weakly, you made it back to your apartment but your entire body felt like it was run over by a wagon filled with trolls. You really needed to learn more about life as a Vampire, maybe a tome in that monastery could be useful. There was still more gear you could buy from the blacksmith but you shouldn't forget about hunting down Thjis to help the Jagdkatz duo. You could probably do two of these things in one night.>[Book!]>[More shopping]>[Hunt down Thjis]

>>2901918>>2901929>>2901948>[Books + Hunting Thjis]Going back to sleep until the sunset again as dawn was coming when you got home. You ate a hearty meal of grilled pork and some leftover chicken from your cold box before leaving for the home of monks as soon as twilight. The monastery of Saint Albrikt fon Magenborg was a place where only the family members of the monks or those working with the Temple may visit. Thus you resorted to again blackmailing monk Jonson in order to have him vouch that you were his long-lost twice removed cousin. With the monk's help as he escorted you with constant attention if you tried anything funny, you found the book "Libra Nox" translating from ancient Alfen to modern Alamanisch as "Book of the Night". He read the book out loud to you as it was never translated to Common nor Alamanisch. You would never understand why people insist on writing in a dead language from the time before the Elven Empire fell, which was 1400 years ago.>Vampires - Summery>Although most associate Vampires with bats, there are some parts of the world where people see them more like cats or wolves. Vampirism is a magical disease that can only be contracted by Humans for some strange reason. It might be due to the fact Vampires end up being entirely carnivorous where their bodies are unable to digest anything other than meat, milk, and blood. At least for most Elves (excluding Skanzen Elves) their need for high fruit intake prevents their body from assimilating vampirism as native part of their physiology. Their heart also function as a secondary intestine as it sents out the blood to provide the nutrients needed to keep the Vampire from developing Scurvy. With being a Vampire a permanent state of existence, the Elven blood naturally rejects vampirism. The natural way to contract vampirism is to be bitten by a vampire bat but a Vampire bite draining blood can also give the disease if the Human survives the encounter. Humans that have been fully transformed into Vampires are all known to have paler skin and retractable fangs but having Elfish ears or changing eye colors can seem random. Even the eye color change might not be a permanent state as some only changes during draining. Although Vampires are granted superhuman speed, strength, sight, hearing, and other senses, they do all share a weakness. Prolong exposure to sunlight can lead to sudden organ failure when a Vampire has been walking around in the day for more than 6 hours. Even staying out in the sun for a few hours on a daily basis can have Vampires develop abnormally fast Skin Cancer. Much like other monsters that have integrated magic into their physiology, they also have accelerated silver poisoning. The words reinforcing your thoughts about staying out of sunlight all the more but the facts made you uncomfortable but you didn't want to show that to Jonson. By the time you got out of the place, the sun was long gone from the sky.
>>2902772You wore your sword proudly on your hips as you walked into the tavern you used to work in. The Dwarven owner named Julius who was your former boss greeted you with a warm smile as he was glad you weren't dead again but wished you hadn't quit. You then quickly moved to Ingrid on the counter and gave her the coins you owed for raiding her cold box. Retracing your steps to that fateful night, you stood at the exact spot where Thjis turned you into a creature of the night. You slowly walked to where he jumped from to get to the roof above. Quietly, there was a jump that made it grabbing onto a window ledge like him. Yet your fingers slipped to fall backward on your back as you couldn't fling yourself to the roof. Thankfully there was nobody around to see that embarrassment. Again you tried but this time you managed to sloppily mimic his moves to land at the very top of the roof but he didn't stay there long as you saw him either jump to another roof or slid down the other side. There was something different in the air as you looked around and smelled the air. It was the trace of alcohol no, it was ale but this was different than what you were used to in the tavern. Following the trail of the smell, you slid down to arrive on the street at the other side of the block. Yes, this was definitely ale alright but whoever brewed it did a piss poor job of making it. You can practically taste the warm urine which this was made from as you smacked your lips, it was of not local or Rheenisch recipe, it had to be the one and only. This was the infamous Kollschtainer ale everybody talks about for sure. Yet there was a problem, Thjis had to either bring the ale from Kollschain itself or bought it here locally. The thing was it was rare in Osterraisch to find people selling it as Klammsbruk and Holtschin-onder-Kasper also rarely sells the drink. You remembered back to think of any places in the city that does have it, whether it be inns, tavern, or ale shops. Then you remembered if any place would have this rare drink it would be The Kovalski's Ale Shop. That place was a family run business of fourth generation Talski Elves and Half-Elves. Meaning they didn't speak a lick of Talski as they've been living within the empire for 4 generations since before the Veselben Wars. You need to follow through with this lead as soon as possible but you know you should give this information to the Jagdkatzen duo. All you needed to do was say the information out loud and they would receive it. But they weren't locals, by trying to help her they could very well tip off Thjis that he was being followed if he kept coming back to the ale shop.>[Go in alone]>[Tell the duo]
>>2902775>[Tell the duo]Look, if we're being paid as part of the team (meaning we only get a 1/3 of the reward), then we should only take a part of the risk as part of the team (only 1/3 of the risk).Besides, we can warn them about the whole "you aren't locals, so you'll need a good cover for coming to a rare ale shop". Maybe the dwarf, because of his desire for new experiences, can parlay it into wanting to try all kinds of ales and the Kovalski's were pointed out as a place with a good selection.

You sure hope they weren't asleep as the night was still young. Wanting to practice roof running like in those espionage plays, you tried jumping from building to building to get to the ale shop before the duo could. If not for the fact your augmented speed, strength, and claws helped you with roof running you knew you would have fallen onto the pavement many times.>Ah, long time no see Anja! What can I do you for?The hybrid standing behind the counter was Mattaius who greeted you as soon as you opened the door to enter.>Hallo Mattaius, I'm trying to find a friend who came into town.>Just say no more! I'll get the ledger!>Well that was fast.>My friend, this isn't the first time a lover, friend, or bounty hunter came into my shop to track somebody down. I've gotten used to it now and learned not to oppose them. Especially the last time I refused to help, the bounty hunter had the nerve to break in to look at my ledger! Now, what type of ale was your friend buying? Do you have a name?>No name but it was a Kollschtainer.>Let's see... The only recent buyer for that piss ale was more than a week ago. It was a Berthold, a merchant from Sudodorf. I remember him, had a funny accent.>Wearing a cloak, had black hair, and a sharp face?>Exactly!>That's him alright, do you know where he went?>We chatted a bit since he seemed really mysterious but he was actually friendly and one of the things he told me was him complaining about his room in the Griffin Inn.>Thanks! Need to be off now before I lose him again!Smelling the air there was the faint smell of the same Kollschtainer ale alright. Just as you were waiting for the duo outside the building, a few moments later they arrived with a wagon. You explained to them the current situation and everything you knew about the lead you followed. Opting to jump on the wagon with Casworon, you made into the inn great time as you told the directions to Yelyzaveta who held the reins. Once you enter the inn with swords drawn while Casworon went around the back to make sure he slowed Thjis down in case he jumps out of his room.>Is it a good idea bring me along when you bust down the door?>Y: No, but you are an arrow sponge. It should distract him enough for either me or Casworon to kill. Not like it matters if he jumped, he could smell us coming as soon as we entered the building.Just like in the play series "Pferder", meaning "knights" in Fulken, Yelyzaveta kicked down the door dramatically then leveled her sword into an ox guard. Yet there was not a soul in there, but there were plenty of books, drawings, and paper everywhere.
>>2903866The same stinking scent of Kollschtainer ale was in the room as you located the mug it was it but the vessel was empty now. Noticing the bookmarks and worn edges on some books, in particular, you decided to read the titles while Yelyzaveta sorted through the drawings.>Gods and Mortals II: The Alfen Pantheon>Treaties on Magical Diseases by Hispanola>History of the Elven Empire: Declining since Birth>Migrations of the Humans, Orisch, and Draken Tribes>Eldritchch Beings: Undesirable FactsOnce Yelyzaveta was done looking around the room, she concluded that he was coming back but didn't know when. Thus, the duo came up with the plan to place trigger spells whenever a Human man entered this room.>Wait, how did you place those spells on me anyway. To hear everything I hear.>C: We mayhaps broke into your home while you were passed out after Thjis infected you.Yelyzaveta pointed at your breasts and then the crouch.>Y: We put the spells on the same pair of 4 underwear you wear every day. So whenever you put them on, we can hear everything you can, albeit quieter. That made your face flushed with blood as you got angry and embarrassed when the Half-Elf told you matter-of-factly. They wanted to stay nearby in case Thjis returned unexpectedly but you could go if you wanted to as they concluded you wouldn't be too useful in a fight. There were the books you wanted to look over but you couldn't do that if you decided to help keep watch of the inn as you needed to take turns with Casworon staring at the building. It wouldn't do you too good to be distracted by books if you stayed with them. That and you still needed to talk to Ingrid about moving in together.>[Go home]>[Stay]
>>2903869>[Stay]Again, be the tank for them. If they die, we lose any potential protection against the two Vampire Hunters that will be hunting us, not to mention not get paid since they're the ones holding on to the bounty for Thjis.
>>2903869>[Go home]He is not coming back, he can sense them. We should go study the books and arranging our move
>>2903869>>[Stay]if he thinks he is found he might want to go after us alone, let's stick to groups
>>2903880>>2903908>>2903941>[Stay]Being the arrow sponge of the group might not be so bad but it sure will be painful as Helheim for you. The first night passed with an uneventful mundane fistfight outside of the building, betting on who would win you've managed to win an extra Raischtaler from a drunk Tiefling. The second night was a lot more exciting when an angry mob of Dwarves and Humans walked pass the inn smashing windows that belonged to Elves, hybrids, and Tieflings. That was before they moved on to hang some Elves living in their voluntary segregated district. By the third night, Yelyzaveta went back inside to inspect Thjis' room again and found out he was digging through Imperial Elven ruins to the east.>C: So, shouldn't we be waiting just outside of the eastern gate.>Trust me you don't want to go there, there are a lot of Talski, Danzski, and Schleser Elves ready to literally rip each other limb by limb just like in the war. There is still a lot of tension left over that the Vaktmen are trying to enforce peace upon but once one of them starts arguing with another, somebody is going to end up dead.>Y: It's not like we have a choice, if he ever comes back into the city which he will, he might not come to the inn the first thing. He might go after another victim.>Fine.Saying it in defeat as you didn't want to be anywhere near those refugees. For as soon as you made it out of the gate into the refugee camps, one the Danzski Elves tried to pick a fight with Yelyzaveta by calling her a mutt. He backed down when she turned around to face him then stare him down as he whispered "Viedzhmin" in a frightened tone to himself. Once making pass the Elves who gave you all sneers and glares, everybody waited on the outskirts of the camps as it had a good view of the road leading into Kranzborg. It wouldn't be till the next night that Thjis actually showed but with heavily armed warriors in tow. He was bringing along a lugger horse with Elven artifacts peeking out and 4 Elves wearing armor which must have been forged in a reservation. The plan was to ambush him but that didn't seem likely when he slowed down his group as Thjis spoke from horseback.>T: Carsworon and Lady Yelyzaveta, I would say it was a pleasure meeting you if not for the fact you're here for my head.>C: Ay, so much for ambushing you.>Y: You should have known by last time it wouldn't work you, idiot!>You! I've finally found you!>T: I honestly thought those two would have killed you by now, it appears my plan backblasted on me. Ansi soet-il (something in Occiton)! It seems the hunted have now become the hunter. You must be carrying Durga's luck as Asurhai has delivered onto me you three on a golden plater.>C: I wouldn't be so sure mate!>T: These warriors are veterans from the regiment known as the "Butchers of Vodzhvodina" nothing stood in their way when these Talski slaughtered that town down to the livestock.
>>2904368>T: I and they should be more than a match for a disgraced aristocrat, a hobo playing hero, and a half-baked slayer. They all got off their mounts as they expected to stand and fight after drawing their swords.>Y: We'll take care of the Elves, you distract him long enough for us to kill him.>C: No heroics now, all you need to do is keep him from fleeing. Eventually, he grew bored playing with you as he deflected a slash to then stab with his claws right into your abdomen.>T: You know I shouldn't have apologized if I knew I was going to kill you myself>Shut up!Using that opportunity that he got close enough to you, you pulled back your blade to cut open arm which was stuck inside your torso. Thjis hissed as he leaped back before attacking you with his sword. Several stabs hit you in the torso, arms, and shoulders as they made you stagger back in exhaustion. But to Thjis, he was only starting to get serious at the prospect of killing you. Then you remembered one move you saw in a play but knew it would hurt like Hel. When he came at you to slice off your hands, you jumped back then held the sword by the actual silver blade as you leaned forward to smash his jaw with the weapon's pommel. It surprised you and him that the mordhau strike would work at all. That forced him to scramble back as he spat out a tooth. His counter-attack was much more impressive as he appeared retreating before jumping off of a horse to slice open your gut. Seeing you intestines spill out in front of you, there was only one word that came into your mind.>Schaissa!>T: Such a juvenile demeanor...You were trying to ignore the pain from your palms as the silver sliced you while picking up your guts. That was rudely interrupted by Thjis pinning you to the ground with his sword through your shoulder. He stepped on you but your blade was far from your body when you dropped it. That or either forcing him to lose his footing could save your life.>[Grab his foot to make him fall]>[Use Vampirsfluk to stab his feet]
>>2904626>>[Grab his foot to make him fall]did I read right? our blade is far from us? so I suppose we better try to drop him
>>2904626>[Grab his foot to make him fall]
>>2904626>>[Grab his foot to make him fall]
>>2904680>>2904652>>2904646>>2904642>[Grab his footing to make him fall]https://youtu.be/8BGUcjPitJ8You took his foot on your shoulder to yank it as hard as you could causing him to fall backward as your claws sliced off the steel blade. Rolling to Vampirsfluk with one hand to prevent your guts spilling forth and another pushing the steel tip stuck in you. The entire world seemed painful as you held Vampirsfluk with one hand.>T: My patience wears thin! After saying this, Thjis threw his sword to transform into a horrific beastial form where his nose pulled back flat into his head as his ears became bat-like. His skin was gray with bulging muscles while fangs couldn't be hidden behind lips and claws extended to like talons. The eyes were totally red much like the Nix and with that your realized your were fighting a creature cornered. Thankfully, the elven warriors were taken care off as Casworon lunged in with an ax sinking into Thjia's left wrist before he was flung off. Yelyzaveta quickly followed up that attack with a slash on his right arm. They kept dueling as you and Casworon ran at him. Even then, Thjis tried to slash Yelyzaveta while parrying Casworon and kicking you back. You got frustrated to the point that you threw your sword at his neck, it missed. It seems Asurhai really was on your side as Vampirsfluk instead landed into the monster's heart. As the silver prevent him from simply regenerating, it was in that few moments where he was paralyzed that Casworon chopped off his hands then Yelyzaveta beheaded him. Without the head, the torso got no orders to stay in such an agitated state and thus reverted back to a more Human form while the head blinked in shock bearing fangs as it died. You might not have died but you feel like you were dying. The air smelled sweet with Elven blood as the entire struggle made you lightheaded. You wanted to eat and drink till your heart's content but you also wanted to drop dead asleep. The body could only do one or the other, not both.>[Blood!]>[Sleep!]
>>2904727>>[Sleep!]unless we can drink from the dead and dying elven warriors, if we can we do that instead of sleeping
>>2904727>[Blood!]Because I think we'll end up waking in a bloodlust fugue if we go to sleep.
>>2904727>[Blood!]We are far from Ingrid so no risk of ripping her appart, if we sleep the hunters might carry us home and we may drain her by accident. Let's drink now from the elven warriors is any of them is still alive or from someone else, any damage we do now can still be pinned on this other vampire we just helped kill
>>2904727>>[Blood!]drain one of those elven warriors.
>>2904753>>2904766>>2904773>>2904774>[Blood!]Natruallik! You needed blood to heal and there was plenty of corpses to drain from. Not bothering to even pull out Vampirsfluk from Thjis' torso, you got to work finding the nearest Elven corpse as for some reason the smell of Vampiric blood made you want to vomit. You were careful not to let your guts spill out as you sliced off the plate armor the man was wearing to leave his entire torso exposed.>Y: I can't watch this.>C: Fine, I'll give her the blade when she's done.First, you took in the bitter nectar of blood from the neck while savoring it like fine wine. It must have been the athletic body which produced the bitter flavor but you couldn't be sure. The body had already transformed into your more monstrous form when you were done draining the body. There was still the hunger for the fresh meat which made you look down at the Elf's abdomen. With one claw, you traced down to where you think the liver is before slicing the skin open to reveal it. In hast, you ripped it out before you began chewing on it.Ingrid finally managed to track down where Anja was all these days, for three days in a row she just disappeared without saying a word. Thus she happened to spy Anja with two other Jagdkatze walking out of the eastern gates into the refugee camps. All her work paid off as she quietly tailed them even when she had to fend off the troublemakers by saying she's from Jutmark. Eventually, the pestering refugees made her lose track of Anja until the sound of clashing blades brought her to the Vampire. Arriving too late to see the fight, an Osterling turned away from Anja before walking away while a Dwarf brought a sword to Anja. There was an audible gasp as Ingrid saw Anja slice open an Elf with a claw then eat an organ. The basic survival instinct inside her told her to flee or die when she saw Anja turn to face her crouch. There was blood running from her jaw down to her neck as claws extended and fang bare. The ears were deformed cat-like things as Anja's iris was crimson. She was hunched over the corpse covered in blood. that sight pushed the Elf to run back to safety. You heard Ingrid near you to turn around where you saw the sheer terror in her eyes right before she yelped to run away.>C: Shite! I've got some explaining to do before Yely knocks her out.Casworon ran after Ingrid as you struggle to stand up with your guts trying to jump out and your body hurting all over.>[Chase after Ingrid]>[Leave her be]
>>2904935>[Chase after Ingrid]Oh no!Poor Ingrid, I hope she can accept us the way we are.Se better reach her or the hunters may do something to her to prevent her from saying they were working with a vamp
>>2904935>>[Chase after Ingrid]
>>2904935>[Leave her be]Tell the hunters she’s our friend, to prevent misunderstandings. Also we gotta heal first .
>>2904935>[Chase after Ingrid]Explain he was already dead, and that we finally killed the one who did this to us, say we are very sorry for what we did but we were afraid of attacking someone because of our wounds. Speaking of wounds, we need her help
>>2905043thiswe are sorry she saw what she did
>>2904957>>2904958>>2905043>>2905079>[Chase after Ingrid]https://youtu.be/2atlpj7AGXUWithin the shock of her finding you in the state which you were in, you needed to explain to her before Yelyzaveta harms her if Ingrid tries to run away. Calling out her name to tell her to stop running, she ignores you as she tries kept getting further and further from you as you stagger forth. Eventually, you caught up to her as she was hiding behind Yelyzaveta for protection from you.>Don't hurt her she won't tell->Y-your intestines!>Oh, oh ja, I almost forgot. The face of fear of you morphed to fear for you as Ingrid walked passed the Jagdkatz to guide you down to sit on a barrel. She rolled up her sleeves before speaking.>You hybrid, get me some vodka and toxic poppys. You Dwarf, get me a lot of bandages and a sewing kit.>Y: She'll be fine, Anja can regenerate by herself with a bit of blood and->If I wanted your opinion I would have asked, now move your ass! That had only made the exiled lady sneer as she went off while Casworon replied with "Aye aye, captain!" As she tended to you there was apologizing back and forth between you two while you told the whole story since you disappeared on her. You explained that you didn't want to do this and wished you could've prevented frightening her. She kept saying sorry for running from you without understanding the situation you were in. It was just that she always thought that Vampires were just Humans but with fangs, that's why she was as scared as she was. Actually, Ingrid confessed she wasn't even sure the woman eating the Elf even looked like you as she never saw that side of you. After the painful process of sewing you up then dragging you back home, The Jagdkatzen duo gave you another deal.>Y: With the way, you cheat death in those monster hunts. You might make a great Jagdkatz.>What are you implying?>C: I've talked to her about it and once we hand over Thjis' head to the trade council in Entwarp. We were thinking that we might not go our separate ways but form some sort of Jagdkatzen group.>I: No, she is going to stay in Kranzborg until she recovers!>Y: Well, she doesn't need to come with us since we've already opened a bank account with her name where you can withdraw the cash once the Entisch officials transfer the money to our accounts.>And you did this without my knowledge?>C: That was just in case you wouldn't come with us or we couldn't send the money back.>Y: Thjis was right though, you are just a half-baked Monster-Hunter. But if you stayed with us, we'll turn you into a full-fledged Jagdkatz.>I: B-but we were going to move in together a-and your entire life is in this city.>C: Lass, don't worry so much! Anja can come back to Kranzborg whenever she wants to. We just won't go there was a group.>Y: The thing about Monster-Hunters within the empire is, nobody teaches you these things just because it's too expensive.>[Leave]>[Stay]
>>2905304>Write-inInvite Ingrid along, we've made more money with 2 contracts then we or she would ever see in their entire lives, with our new abilities we could do some good to people, like how we helped that village with the nix that was killing people there, and we will need someone to take care of us if we are wounded or while we rest during the day, what does she think, we may not be sharing a house as we planned but we will share a tent, and later we will have money to have a really decent house
>>2905304>Write-in [Leave with Ingrid]We need to get out of town because there are two Vampire hunters on the way. And given their reputation, the VH may come after Ingrid to get our location. Not to mention, if our current salaries combined were 4 Silvers a week, we made in one day more than we could have both made in a month. If cost of living is that cheap, we could support the both of us; and our Regeneration makes us much more likely to survive our new profession.
>>2905334>>2905304Hey VM, am I overstating the nasty reputation of Vampire Hunters, that they would torture and kill a vampire’s non-Vampire associates as part of a hunt?
>>2905339No, they have and will do that, especially with the religious turmoil in the empire giving them fewer restrictions as Inquisitors are running wild in the southern states.>>2905324>>2905333>>2905334This will be added to the [Leave] option.
>>2905355I’m surprised that the mobs haven’t turned on a Vampire Hunter abusing their authority and publicly lynched them yet.
>>2905391Maybe they didn’t torture a big number of people they judged as vampire allies or they’re smart enough to not cross that line
>>2905355Shit, we should warn our friends, former boss, the doctor that helped us, and everyone we were in contact with, to either leave town for a while or stuck with their friends to fight off Vampire Hunters. Or I suppose we could bait out the VH, have our MH friends ambush them from behind, then crucify the VH in a public square for being essentially abusers of authority since we proved that Monster Hunters can hunt vampires without the murder and torture of innocents.
>>2905400I think they are not in danger since they, in fact, don't know anything about our condition.Ingrid on the other hand is very much in danger if she starys
>>2905396>>2905400The thing about VH is that they use lovers, friends, and family of Vampires to draw them out. They are also willing to use torture to squeeze out information from anybody they are certain will have vital information to help the hunt. These guys are ruthless in their chase but they are careful in targeting people suspected of Vampirism. Most of the restrictions placed on them are because they would kill nobles disproportionately as Vampires like to mingle amongst them. For as scary as VH are they don’t bother 95% and the public never interacts with them enough to realize they aren’t bogeymen. Most people might be afraid of them but they just aren’t big enough of a problem for a mob to take up arms. They’re more worried about the Dwarven bankers cheating them or a Tiefling crime family than VH.
>>2905414Then we should make sure Ingrid comes with us since she would probably be targeted if they suspect us.Tell her we can buy our house instead of renting one after we take more contracts
>>2905304>>[Leave]invite Ingrid, etc etc.
>>2905467Also, we need new underwear, I'm done with these guys hearing everything we say
>>2905467>>2905334>>2905333>>2905324>[Leave]Packing you what you could carry, you bought new underwear just so the two would stop spying on you with Ingrid. Managing to convince Ingrid to come along as the threat of Vampire-Hunters were too present of a danger to put her in harm's way. The entire group was to head out the first thing at dusk. Casworon and Yelyzaveta even pooled money together to buy you that papped armor you were eyeing for. When you arrived near the gate wearing a cloak inside the Jagdkatz's wagon you also had Ingrid with you inside the vehicle. The other two went off to buy as much ale as they could haul for the long road ahead, leaving you with Ingrid alone.>I: So I never got to say this but...>But, what?>I: Y-you see... Even if you were to leave the city without me. I would have followed.>Because you fell in love with me as soon as you laid eyes on me?>I: Shut it!It was clear that the Elf was blushing and flustered in her attempt as words to express how she thought of you. The noticeable rise in the heartbeat from Ingrid along with the sound of her clammy palms and raised hair along the neck told something. You wouldn't have noticed these things lest you had heightened senses from your vampiric traits. There was also something you felt emitting from her like the night when you first drained her. It was a flavor you couldn't identify in her blood but what thought to have the same smell came from her body. Coming close to Ingrid to get a better smell of her, she gave a questioning look when you were got up to her face to feel her warm breath.>[Hug her]>[Lean forward]
>>2906021>[Lean forward]It's time! How many more averted gruesome deaths for Ingrid do we have now?
>>2906021>>[Lean forward]>>2906043You say that, but imagine if this option leads to draining her dry due to reasons.
>>2906047Yeah, hugging her might put us too close to her neck kek
>>2906021>[Lean forward]I knew the girl was coming anyway, time to reward the healing and caring.
>>2906101>>2906021also, a qustion, so we've got the armor, how much money do we have left? we could go for some potions too
>>2906112There is enough saved up to buy potions but you can get them either in the city or outside.
>>2906139Let's wait for another opportunity then, maybe there will be a wider variety
>>2906043>>2906047>>2906058>>2906101>[Lean forward]https://youtu.be/HoBW1VLJzdsYou lean in forward closer to Ingrid's face to kiss her as she was taken by surprise. It appeared the Snow Elf wanted to pull back but quickly changed her mind to grab your shoulders then kiss back. Hands moved from Ingrid's hips to her back as you almost made her moan with pleasure. That was when you realized how frustrating it must have been for her to say you weren't her lover and seeing you come back home wounded worse than each time before only had her more frustrated. The pent-up tension between you two was released as both pulled each other closer to just ignore the world for a time. You weren't sure what flavor was on your lips but you wanted more, the loss of breath was the only reason why you away from her. The thought of visiting Rheenland made you nostalgic but knew your mother would cold you for such behavior while your father... Well, you couldn't tell with him. Softly you both talked about leaving Kranzborg.>Somewhere old.>Somewhere new.>Somewhere out of the blue.
>>2906197>>Somewhere out of the blue.
And thus our story of Anja Schubak ends here. But this won't be the last time we see her but it this will be the end of this thread. Dear Anonlanders, I ask you where you would like to see the next Vampire Quest take place in as I'm already coming up with the next quest and will be back after this thread dies.>[Somewhere new] a place outside of the DEH.>[Somewhere old] a place within the empire.>[Somewhere out of the blue] a place never mentioned before.Feel free to ask me about any of the realms and what their situation is like.
>>2906224>[Somewhere new] a place outside of the DEH.
>>2906224>>[Somewhere new] a place outside of the DEH.
>>2906224>[Somewhere old] a place within the empire.Would you look at that! We managed to keep her alive for now. I bet you expected her to have bitten the dust by now right qm? Good end of episode in my book. Thanks for running
>>2906224>>[Somewhere new] a place outside of the DEHNot-spain seems fun
>>2906260>The Archduchy of Mustallyon was formed after the union between Mustal and Lyon where the eldest son inherited both titles. Now, in an attempt to quell uppity Vesterling Elves, they went about a war to scatter the Wood Elves from their reservations and strip the semi-autonomous lands from the Elves then grant them to Human or Dwarven nobles. Zelous in their war against the separatist and heretics, the bordering northern lands near Voolonia is subjected to a proxy war between the two realms as the Lyonese tries to exterminate any idea of religious freedom. The tulip crested knights of Onterland have ravaged the north in their bloody 90 years conflict, fighting to join Voolonia.
>>2906299Ah. Wonderful. Who doesnt want to see a genuine reconquista
>>2906299wait, so the wood elves are fighting to keep their lands there?how about Voulon and Occiton
>>2906370>Voolonia, the land of explorers and merchants. This merchant republic have recently lifted the religious restriction to prevent a civil between the Pentarchist, Zekumites, and Alfen. They now occupy most of their time traveling the seas to plunder, explore, and trade while the government is still focused on smuggling support into Onterland for the past 90 years. There is even talk amongst Voolon Elves to end the reservation system to subject themselves to their liege's laws.>Occitionia, realms of the westerners filled with knights and honey. Recovering from their failed war of conquest for the duchy of Lorrein (known as Lorringa in Fulken). The king of the Occitons consider aiding the Ontisch but meanwhile, send in agents to advise the Zekumites how to properly rebel against their Pentarchist Empress. Fearing a war on two front, even this honorable realm is not about employing espionage to halt the needless bloodshed. Romanticised too often, it has a fair share of problems outsiders don't know about.
>>2906421What about Tier then? Or Cier. Whatever its name is
>>2906432>Eier is the mystical island kingdom of fairies and drunks. Never having been touched by Imperial Elven colonization unlike the rest of Vesterland, the island's linguistic, cultural, and governmental traits are different from the rest. The high king rules the island with petty kings ruling over their respective tribal or clan lands. Other than the Skanii tribes of the north, the Eierisch is thought to be borderline barbarians, just one mug shy of it in fact. Mainlanders look down on them especially since the native Gnome population integrated the fleeing Elves and Dwarves following the Elven Empire's fall. Plenty of rolling hills and highlands, there are unexplored parts of it where creatures once extinct hide.
>>2906459hey, Skanii, those are the same tipe of elves as Ingrid and the girls from the previous quest, right?this island sounds cool
>>2906482>As pale as snow itself, even amongst the lighter skin tone races, the Snow Elves are thought to be the lightest of the skin colors. Their hair also matches this trend of pale colors, what with dyed blond and pearly white colors. The reasoning for them being so different from the other Elves is that they aren't related to the Imperial Elves. Around the time of the formation of the Elven Empire to try to unify all the Elven city-states, the Skanzens kept resisting colonization by the Imperials. One must understand that the Skanii culture is totally different from the other Elves in at they aren't natives of the Continent like the Imperials. In fact, by the time the Elven Empire tried to conquer Skanza, the Skanii have just finished migrating from the east to settle the northern realm. Other Elven tribes have also been pushed north to later be assimilated into the Skanzen as the Elven Empire colonized further north and north. Holding personal honor, glory, and kin above all else, the Snow Elves threw themselves in suicidal wars of defense in an attempt to gain immortality through history. For in a Skanzen eye, all else in life had little mean but these three things, honor, kin, and glory, in that order of importance. Honor so that their action is just no matter the cause, kin to keep the family happy and united, and glory so that they wouldn't be forgotten. Called Skanzen in Common, Skanii in their mother tongue, and Drow in Alt Alf (due to them being perceived as being evil and vile under the protection and unified by a dark goddess).
>>2906507Thanks for running, liked the quest(chapter?) a lot, hope to see you continuing this.
