>Welcome!
>It’s a Naruto quest!
>Have fun!
It’s finally the day. You’ve been waiting what feels like your entire life for this. You’ve suffered through late night study sessions, all the battle scars, bruises and cuts, you’ve read over the history of the Third Shinobi World War a hundred times over. You’ve been preparing for this, and the day is finally here. You’ve had to work extra hard, considering your clan was a fairly new clan that had only become notable through acts of heroism during the war. Finally though, you’ve made it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ0kEKKRWzk

You enter the classroom, quickly navigating to your regular seat. As the class all sits down, the only empty seat is immediately obvious. Sasuke, who’s always late. He can afford to be, you suppose. Iruka, your instructor starts to pass out the tests, sighing at the obvious absence. Once every student has an exam, Iruka goes back to his desks, looking over you all with an encouraging smile.

“Now, I’ve had a wonderful time teaching you over our time together, and now it seems like, for many of you, that time will come to an end now. I’d just like to say it’s been a pleasure teaching all of you. Some of you may pass this, others may fail, but regardless of how you do, know that it took hard work even to get to this point, and you should all feel somewhat proud of yourselves.”

You think back to your memories over last quarter, you were really focused mostly on keeping up with everyone else, who all had their own special clan powers, you didn’t really have much time to socialize with any of them.

You look down to your paper, and begin by filling out your name,
Katsuo, of the Tatsukuma clan.

You look over your score sheet. You have all the basic skills any ninja might need, and you easily have the best hand seals in your class. On top of that, you're smarter than most, and the best understanding of Genjutsu by far, even surpassing your teacher in that regard. Unfortunately, you're somewhat physically weak, and generally not much in terms of taijutsu. Still, you managed to pass the physical examinations the week before, and you're confident with your written exam when you go to turn it into your teacher.

As more students hand in their exams, the relative silence of the classroom is disrupted when the door swings open, and in walks Sasuke Uchiha, the son of the Fouth Hokage. He strides into the room, carelessly, as you can already hear the hushed whispers of the girls in your class as they watch him stride towards the empty desk.

Iruka walks up to him, "Sasuke, I know your father's position grants you certain privileges, but you simply must fix your attendance!"

The Uchiha nods, and with a wide smirk, shrugs. "Sorry, teach. I must've lost sense of time. I'll do better next time." Looking down, he pulls out a pencil, filling out the exam quickly. Mere moments later, he walks over to hand the exam to Iruka. Iruka lets out a sigh, as Sasuke smugly strides back to his seat, leaning back as if he doesn't have a care in the world.

Kiba stands suddenly from his seat in the back, "Sasuke, you aren't as cool as you think you are! You think you're so special, but I'll show you when I have your dad's job!"

Sasuke turns, as Iruka tries desperately to get the class to settle down. Sasuke speaks, his smirk not leaving his face. "You're a fool. The next hokage will be my brother, and I shall be hokage after him. The Hokage will be an Uchiha for generations to come."

You simply sit in your chair, watching the two argue. You only know their names because they're the people that talk the most in your class, usually bickering with one another. You long around the rest of the people possibly graduating. You recognize all of them, of course. The pink and blonde girls were gossiping together in the corner, likely drooling over Sasuke. The quiet girl was sitting off on her own, alternating between covering her eyes and staring worriedly at the growing confrontation. Then, the strange guy with the sunglasses was sitting in the back, quietly observing everything, it would be creepy if it wasn't exactly what you were doing as well. He gives you a knowing gaze and you shakily not back. He really gives you the creeps. Finally, the fat guy and the skinny one with the top knot were sitting not too far from you. You'd actually spoken to them a few times, they seemed... decent. You decide you should probably start learning the names of your classmates.

"Oh yeah?" Kiba yells, the small dog resting in his hoodie barking ferociously. "Well take this, Uchiha!" He shouts, leaping from his desk towards Sasuke, crashing into him and leading to both boys crashing through several desks, directly towards you! You don't have time enough to dodge, and both of your fellow Academy students come crashing down on top of you, all three of you landing on a heap in front of Iruka's desk.

As the three of you hastily get up and push each other off of one another, Iruka steps in between you. "Stop it, alright! Save that aggression for your missions!" As he seperates the three of you and sends you back to your seats, he holds up the exams. "Congratulations, you've all passed! I am proud to say that a full 100% graduation rating is a rarity, and you all have earned it!"

The class cheers, congratulating themselves. Even though your head still hurts a bit from the crash, you feel proud of finally being able to call yourself a shinobi. Iruka begins passing out headbands, and as you tie your headband around your forehead, you feel a sense of pride in your village.

Iruka speaks up after everyone has recieved a headband. "Now, it is time to split the class into teams of three, you shall meet your team leaders soon. Other than the restrictions of one kunoichi to each team, the teams will be completely randomised, and the instructors will pick which team they want to deal with."

You notice that in your class, the blonde girl, fat boy, and top knot glance between one another nervously, perhaps not wanting to be split up. Meanwhile, Kiba and Sasuke glare at one another, obviously not wanting to end up together.

Hold up I write some up real quick.

Ken Smith(or whatever it means in Japanese) Kenjutsu specialist. A commoner who was born to a family of hardworking blacksmiths who make ninja gear. Loves weapons and beating people up with said weapons. People often make the mistake that is simple and prefers direct fights, but actually, he loves tricky weapons too.

Lilly a girl who seems excessively fond of plants, animals, healing, and making said things from what she harvests. Became a ninja to pay the bills for her poor family but what she really wants to do is be a researcher. Notable weapons are usage is reliance upon poison, ninjutsu, and toxic byproducts from their 'experiments' that she weaponized.

Aizen born to a family of nobility but wanted to be a ninja instead. Loves books and learning new jutsu's. Is a very smart coward so he relies upon Genjutsu and puppets to stay safe. Despite his cowardly nature is very good at sneaking up on people even without meaning to. People think he's creepy but he's very willing to help anybody who asks. Mostly because he loves teaching people and improving himself.

Now I'm not sure about making Clan Children so I'll let the QM handle that but here's some OC.
>>
>>2925655
'Beast' actually a feral child some ninja found surviving on his own deep in the wilderness. Is a rough character not used to people but he's a survivalist expert. Very tough and fast. Knows how to sneakily hunt prey. Being a ninja is kind of novel experience for him still but he likes using Ninjutsu even if he's not very good at that kinda stuff. Genjutsu especially.

Since he came back to civilization he was adopted by an ornery old loner ninja who's seen some shit after said old man was forced to by the Hokage. Apparently, something to do with him having no family and all the comrades he knew died for the Village but him. He hopes taking care of a kid will give him some badly needed peace and family love.

'Boomer' a failed alchemist who applied to be a ninja after realizing all those bombs he makes and other failed projects could be useful. Totally doesn't have anything to do with him being banned for life. Specializes in destruction and misery. Very clumsy in the worst possible way. His touch destroys and he has a tough body solely for the fact its the only reason he's still alive. Loves to 'experiment' despite his complete lack of skill in doing so.

Mo of a Zen Monk Temple his services were won in a card game with the head monk and the Hokage. He was then transferred into the class so not much is known about him. He is very calm, polite, and collected like freakishly so. With a fit body and unusual techniques due to his monastic upbringing. Is still adjusting to civilian and ninja life.

Bad Boy class troublemaker and criminal extraordinaire. Was supposed to have dropped out but he passed the test by the skin of teeth. Wants to join Anbu...which given how much of a loser he is a tall order. The only good thing about him is he's sneaky and loves to fight dirty. His actual skills are quite lacking.

Bad Girl a crazed redhead who is obsessed with fighting and improving. Only problem is she hates studying and prefers to get beaten up in order to learn. Is a hot head who regularly fights in underground arenas pay and her idea of training. Is the big sis of her family after her parents died. Became a ninja hoping that her love of fighting would make a good ninja who can afford to support and raise her siblings.

"Alright," Iruka says, looking over your class, a group of young, fresh genin, ready and eager to find out their team settings. "First up is Team Seven."

He reaches into a plain box, drawing out one small slip of paper. "Sasuke Uchiha, Hinata Hyuuga, and Kiba Inuzuka." Both Sasuke and Kiba let out a loud groan at being assigned to one another, although Hinata just buries herself in her hood.

"Team Eight, Sakura Haruno, Sai Shimura, Shino Aburame." Sakura groaned, "Why do I always get stuck with the wird ones... can me and Hinata trade? She belongs in this one!" Hinata doesn't react, but Iruka glares at Sakura, earning her to sheepishly look down, avoiding eyecontact with her, admittedly creepy teammates.

Next, "Team Ten. Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yamanaka, Choji Akimichi." The three of them cheer. Well, the blonde girl and the fat one does. The one with the top knot just smiles. Still you can tell they're happy to be together.

That only leaves you, and doing your math right, you find that you're left over. Iruka smiles, as he sees the confusion on your face. "Don't worry Katsuo, I haven't forgotten you, however your teammates are newcomers to the class." He turns to the door, where a boy and girl your age enter the room.

"I would like you to meet your teammates on Team Nine, Mariko Senju and Jun Yuhi." The girl, at least seems dressed fairly normal, but the boy is dressed in a strange sort of gi. The girl, a Senju, which effectively makes her ninja royalty, seems to regard you for a few seconds, before turning her nose up disdainfully. Meanwhile, the boy, seemingly oblivious to how strange he looks, stomps over towards your desk, extending his hand.

You shake his hand, "I'm Jun," he says, cheerfully. He shakes your hand vigorously, refusing to let go of his vice like grasp for several second too long.

The other teams have all gone to sit and speak with one another at this point, with the exception of Kiba, who is still sitting off on his own, glaring daggers at the back of Sasuke's head.

"I am Katsuo Tsukuma," you introduce yourself formally, bowing slightly to both of your teammates once he lets go of your hand.

With a groan, the Senju girl stomps over to the two of you. "Mariko Senju. Can we just go get this over with? I don't want to spend anymore time with this team than I have to?"

"We should get a message with where to meet our instructor soon, right?" Jun said, looking around obliviously. If he took any offense to the young kunoichi.

You're sure your instructor will make his presence known whenever he feels like it, but you ought to get to know your teammates a little bit better. You've never been much of a social butterfly yourself, but considering neither do either of your teammates, you decide you need to push the conversation.

"Why weren't you two in Academy like everyone else? I've never seen you before." You look between the two of them, Mariko gasps in offense, as if she couldn't believe you would ask her a simple question, while Jun shrugs. "I grew up in the Fire Temple. My older sister was actually the first person from my family to become a ninja. I wanted to follow in her footsteps, and my ninja monk training basically means I'm already at genin level. That's what my sister said, anyways." You nod. You've heard of the ninja monks, they're apparently well renowned for their connection to their chakra, and they could even have their own techniques you've never heard of. Perhaps you misjudged Jun's usefulness.

"What was your ninja monk training like?" You ask, or at least, you start to, before Mariko interrupts you, seemingly upset with neither of you paying any attention to her. "I was trained personally by my aunt, one of the legendary Sannin!" She proclaimed, puffing her chest out proudly. "I intend to reclaim the Senju clan's glory! I am the burning ember of Konoha! With the wisdom of the Sannin, the strength of the Senju, and the Will of Fire of Konohagakure flowing through my veins, I vow to become Hokage. I will make the First, Second, and all my ancestors proud!" She's clearly practiced the speech before.

Looking to avoid feeding the ego of the Senju girl anymore than you have to, you simply nod politely in response to her speech, before turning back towards Jun.

"So, Jun, who is your sister? You said she's a ninja in Konoha?" You ask, you might know his sister, or at least know of her, if she's someone of note. In all honesty, despite the girl's bluster, she hasn't proven herself to be of any use, especially when you have someone with ninja monk training.

Jun grins, nodding excitedly as you mention his sister. "Yes, her name is Kurenai Yuhi. She only recently became a jonin! It's possible we may even be assigned her as our instructor, if I understand the rules correctly." Kurenai Yuhi is a name you recognize, actually. She has done guest training sessions at the academy before, she is well regarded for someone so young.

"Pfft," Mariko scoffs, "I hope we get someone more experienced than her for our instructor." She says, giggling smugly.

"You said she was the first person in your family to become a ninja?" You ask Jun, ignoring Mariko's remarks. Her face turns red as you and Jun effectively ignore her.

"Yes, my family are a long line of pacifists, sworn only to fight in self defense. Kuronai left before I was even born to go train to become a ninja at Konoha. She's saved so many lives since then, she's become a hero in our home village. I've wanted to be like her for as long as I can remember." Jun almost literally has stars in his eyes, you can tell he clearly looks up to his sister quite a lot.

As you're about to continue, a kunai flies into the room through a window nearby, it sticks into the desk the three of you are crowding around, effectively killing any conversation you were trying to have. You could have sworn that window was closed early, but somehow it must have gotten opened. Regardless, the kunai has a note attached to it.

You slowly reach out to read the note, on it, scrawled in a messy hand, "Meet at Ichiraku Ramen. Don't be late!"

You look between your two teammates, who are also staring blankly at the note.

"Well... I guess that's our instructor?" Jun says, cheerfully.

You look between your teammates before nodding. "Right then, let's go together, but we should go fast, we don't know when late is." Jun nods and Mariko pouts, "If I had known we would have had to hurry somewhere I would have worn different shoes!" You don't acknowledge her, and lead your teammates out of the classroom. As you leave, you stop for a few seconds to run a check for any genjutsus, and find none. So your instructor is the type to throw dangerous, sharp weapons into classrooms full of students.

Great.

You know where the ramen shop is, you pass by it every single day on your path to the academy, although you've never once stopped to eat there. It's a good thing you know where it is too, because as you walk, it's obvious Jun has never been in a big city like Konoha before, and Mariko was drudging behind you in the back, complaining about having to walk among the common folk.

Soon enough, you're stood outside the familiar sight of Ramen Ichiraku. Stepping inside, you see a few townsfolk sitting and eating, but no shinobi. You check for genjutsu again, and still, nothing. As you're looking around, trying to figure out if this is a joke or not, you suddenly hear a yell from behind you. You turn to see a figure leaping directly at you, screaming as it does so. You have only a few seconds to react!

Recognizing and processing what was going on faster than either of your teammates, you were able to react quickly enough, turning and attempting to tackle both Jun and Mariko out of the way. Unfortunately, you're not quite strong enough to push Jun down, only able to tip him off balance, wasting precious time. In the end, you get Jun and Mariko safely out of danger, but you're not able to get yourself to safety in time. You get caught by your attacker, grabbed and pinned to the ground. Your attacker, with his knee pressed against the back of your head begins laughing suddenly.

"You stood up for your friends. That was good. Unfortunately, you messed up the execution. If you're not in perfect condition, if you make the slightest mistake as a shinobi on the field, it could mean serious consequences."

He lets off the hold, standing back and offering you a hand as you try to crawl back to your feet.

You look up at him, as he uses his other hand to pull his goggles up, showing his eyes. You recognize the Uchiha crest emlazoned on his vest, but his eyes are plain, warm, brown eyes. "I'm your instructor, Obito Uchiha. Nice to meet you all."

You hesitantly reach out, breaking through your pride to accept your new teacher's help. As he helps you stand up, you see your teammates also getting to their feet behind you. The rest of the customers at the ramen shop have all scurried away from you, although the chef working there sighs.

"Hello again, Obito." He sighs.

Obito laughs a little, and nods. "Yeah, and three for the new genin as well!"

As ramen is served to you, and you and your teammates start to let your guard down, joining Obito in sitting down to eat your ramen. Jun began scarfing down his food immediately, while Mariko tuts disapprovingly. "Really sensei, couldn't we have eaten anywhere more refined? I would think an experienced jounin like oneself would have had a sharper palate." Obito chuckles nervously, glancing between his students.

"W-well, I think we should all get to know one another. I hope you've already gotten acquainted with one another a little bit, but as a team, we will build bonds with one another that are stronger than any bond on this earth. That bond will build through experience and hardships fighting alongside one another. But it'll have to start on this. Let's all tell each other one thing we love, one thing we hate, and our dreams for the future, huh?"

Obito looks between the three of you, and in response to your silence he shrugs. "Fine, I'll go first. I love ramen ichiraku, I hate anyone that deserts their friends, and one day I dream of uniting the people of Konoha." Obito then turns to Mariko, "Your turn, Princess."

Mariko giggles, "Oh ho ho, this is a simple question. I love flowers, the like only grown in the Land of Fire. I hate the villains in Iwagakure and Kumogakure, and I dream of returning the Senju clan to glory, and leading Konoha to new heights!"

She says it all in one breath, so by the end of it she's out of breath, but she still holds a pose for a few seconds afterwards.

Obito nods blankly, "Sure. Now, Jun?"

Jun ponders for a few seconds, "Well... I love meeting new people, and those pork buns they sell in my home town. I hate... uh, I guess what you said about people deserting their friends. And I dream of one day saving lives like my sister does."

Obito smiles, "That's good, Jun. Katsuo, your turn."

You've been thinking about this, the answers come naturally enough to you, though.

"I love puzzles, and solving problems. I hate arrogant people, and I dream of one day making myself known throughout the land as a Legendary Ninja." You lay out your plans simply and factually. You don't intend limit yourself to becoming Hokage, as you know there are other ways to become a legend.

Obito nods, "All fair enough. Even though your dreams are different, you will form bonds and help each other reach each of your dreams. It is through your bonds with one another that you become better."

You nod, even if you don't fully get what Obito is talking about. You know he was a hero in the Third Shinobi War, and helped save Konoha when the Three Tails attacked, so you probably ought to listen to him, even if he didn't seem like much now.

Mariko spoke up, of course. "I'm not here to make bonds! I'm here to be the best!"

Obito shakes his head, sighing. "With an attitude like that, you'll never get anywhere. Your comrades are your lifeblood on the battlefield. If I had been a serious attacker, and Katsuo hadn't saved you, you would've been dead." His tone is surprisingly serious for a few moments, but eventually he starts to relax again.

He looks down at the empty bowl below him. "Well, I think this meal is about done. Tomorrow, your training will truly begin. Meet me at the training grounds at noon. Come with all of your gear, and make sure you don't eat breakfast."

He looks between the three of you sternly, before breaking out into a laugh. "I'll see you guys tomorrow."

With that, your sensei leaves, and the three of you part ways soon after. You walk back towards your home, but it's not far, and by the time you get home you realize you have a good bit more time left in the day.

You decide to spend the rest of your day investigating your sensei. You figure it's important to know who you'll be trusting your life into for the next few years of your life. For all his talk of bonds, you really didn't know much about Obito Uchiha.

https://youtu.be/Qv7btgqaAGc

You walk through the streets of Konoha towards the library just as the sun is setting. You're a regular at the library, having spent hours there studying. You quickly scan and pull out various books on Uchiha records and historical accords of the Third Shinobi World War.

Obito Uchiha, you find, was part of a team trained by the Golden Hero of the Leaf, alongside teammates Rin Nohara, and Kakashi Hatake. When the Three Tails attacked Konohagakure at the end of the Third Shinobi World War, it nearly destroyed Konoha, only through the sacrifice of their team leader, Minato Namikaze that Konoha still exists today. After Konoha was devastated by the attack, surrender to Iwagakure was swift.

Obito Uchiha is one of the few of his clan to never activate his sharingan, and is widely considered to be one of the weakest of his clan, and his generation of jounin.

Great, so you got a slacker Uchiha for your teacher. Although, if he really was tought by Minato, he must know something, right?

As you're considering what you've learned, you hear a small voice from behind you.

"E-excuse me? M-may I see that book?"

You turn to see one of your classmates, the shy girl. "I-I'm trying to read about my sensei." She mumbles again.

You pick up the book, Legends of the Third War. It's a detailing on legendary heroes that arose in and fought during the Third Great Shinobi War. Well, the fact that her teacher fought in the Third Shinobi War didn't necessarily rule out many Jounin. Even the youngest of that generation likely saw some fighting during the war, with how quickly Konoha pushed their ninja through back then.

"Team 7, right?" You try to recall Iruka's words. "Sasuke Uchiha, Hinata Hyuuga, and Kiba Inuzuka. I'm guessing you're Hinata?" You say, while handing the book to the girl.

She nods, although she doesn't make any eye contact with you, staring at the floor. "Yes... that's me. Our instructor is jōnin Kakashi Hatake. I was intending to do a bit of reading, and Kakashi spoke of his time in the Third War..."

That's interesting. You've heard of Kakashi Hatake before, his exploits in service of the Leaf are well known throughout the village, but hadn't realized he was your instructor's teammate until you read it. Now someone in Kakashi's team was here? Well, that could in a way give you a lot of information about Obito.

"What's your instructor like?" You ask, as Hinata sits down at the table across from you. "Mine seems kinda strange."

Hinata thinks for a few moments, "Maybe that's just how jōnin are? Ours seems... different as well. He showed up four hours late to our meeting... and he kept reading this... lewd book." Hinata's face goes red, and she buries her face in the history book.

Huh. So, very different.

"Well, what are your teammates like, Kiba and Sasuke?" You try to calm Hinata by changing the subject, and it seems to work a little bit, as she peeks out over the book.

"Well... they're different in a lot of ways, but they're both very stubborn, and they both see the other as an obstacle... They fought three times when we were all meeting... I tried to break it up at first, but Kakashi made me just let them fight it out after a while..."

She sighed, it seemed Team 7 wasn't having an easy time of it.

You nod, but give Hinata your best attempt at a supportive smile. "Well, at least you don't have my teammate. She's an arrogant brat who has to constantly be the center of attention, and is always going on about being Hokage and her bloodline. She talked down to everyone around her, including our instructor!"

Hinata's eyes are wide by the time you finish your story. "Wow... she sounds... tough to deal with. I'm glad she's not on my team. Sasuke and Kiba are both at least somewhat nice to me." She lets out a sigh. "I think I could try to talk to Sasuke and Kiba alone, and try to get them to not fight as much during the meetings. Maybe that could work." With a slightly more determined look in her eyes, she nods at you. "Thank you, Katsuo."

You smile, and get up to leave the library. You've investigated your instructor, learned more about another team you'll eventually have to compete again, and actually learned about some of your classmates. You head home, and by the time you get there you find it's later than you thought.

You should probably head to bed soon, especially if you want to get fully prepared for your first day of training as a genin. You wonder what Obito will have in store for you. You have to hope you're up for whatever challenge is thrown your way.

You start running around the training ground, with no end goal in mind. You push yourself to your limits of stamina, but you keep running. As annoying as she is, Mariko is a senju, trained by a sannin, and Jun has the training of a ninja monk. You have no special abilities, no one knows your clan. You need to work extra hard to keep up, so you push yourself to keep sprinting, even as your lungs burn and your legs get heavier, you force yourself to keep going.

Your legs give out before your heart does, as you collapse onto the ground.

You're about to give in, when you flash back to your failure to save your teammates, even though it was Obito attacking you, he was right, your physical condition iisn't good enough for you to actually be of much use on the field. On burning, shaky legs, you force yourself to stand and keep running. By the time that you find you can't run anymore, you're absolutely drenched in sweat. You pushed yourself further than you thought you could, and you definitley feel like you've improved your stamina, although in the more immediate term you feel absolutely exhausted.

>+1.5 Stamina!

You spend the next hour recovering, and slowly starting to regain your strength, when Jun arrives, a bit earlier than expected.

He waves and approaches you, "Hello Katsuo! I thought I would be the first one here."

You shrug, "I wanted to get some training in early in the morning." Jun sits in the grass next to you, looking around.

"While it's just us... what do you think of Mariko?" he asks, cheeks turning a slight shade of red.

Wonder what kyubi-less Naruto would be like. Assuming he does live he doesn't seem to have been in our class, which means he either didn't become a ninja, or he graduated early.
>>
>>2932292
Well in canon he failed to graduate early, mostly due to his shit chakra control cause of the nine tails and his shit attention span because everyone hated him, plus fanon is that the extra chakra from the nine tails gave him heaps of energy
Who knows how he would end up but its pretty likely he would still have the same attitude funnily enough
>>
>>2933147
I don't know, would he have as much to prove to others if he wasn't hated by everyone? Would Kushina beat some sense into him if she's still alive? He might just end up resenting his father for getting killed in a war they went and lost anyway.

Why
>>
>>2933247
If anything naruto would be a sauce tier ball of angst trying to prove himself worthy of his fathers legacy
>>
>>2933147
Assuming he even exists, I'd say a lot more mellow and probably even pretty good with his chakra control. Without the kyuubi in him, Naruto wouldn't have to deal with the two main problems that plagued his childhood. The other villagers hating him for being the host of the ninetails, and his weird control due to it. Add that with potentially not being an orphan in this timeline and he's got way less to prove and doesn't need to act out nearly as much for attention.
>>
>>2933272
It's what we've got, I don't see a problem with having a good gen to start. Plus, most ninja have a real problem dealing with or even using genjutsu so having a strong foundation in it means we actually have a strong advantage against most opponents. We're a ninja too, so building up our other skills to impressive levels is mandatory if we want to go full jounin anyway. Way I see it, best means the best at everything like the top tier ninja are, and having a good grasp of genjutsu from the stat makes that easier in the long run.

It's dumping taijutsu, a skill thats way more synergistic with genjustu than ninjutsu, and stamina, a stat that is important to both using genjustu reliably and not jobbing
We got really really lucky with that training roll allowing us to actually function as a ninja

>My complaint isn't taking genjustu it's dumping taijutsu, a skill thats way more synergistic with genjustu than ninjutsu,
Meh, that's debatable
>and stamina, a stat that is important to both using genjustu reliably and not jobbing
I can agree somewhat as stamina is important, I think it's meant to start us off as more of a tactical build, and our hand seals make up for it a bit
>We got really really lucky with that training roll allowing us to actually function as a ninja
No doubt, 1.5 is pretty good for a genin, but remember 1, while not great, is about average at our age. I think we're fine stat wise with it being as early as it is in quest, but I do agree that pushing it up to 2 or even 2.5 if possible by focusing on it early is a good idea.

He wasn't super angsty about everyone hating him, and even when he worked out he was partially the monster that destroyed the village he didn't really angst about it.

Although I could see him being similar to young Kakashi, rejecting everything his father stood for because "He failed".

You think about it for a second. Your experiences with your teammates has been admittedly limited, but Mariko hasn't done much to leave a positive impression on you. "She's probably powerful, she is a Senju after all. Unfortunately, she's also a complete pain. She'll ultimately be more useful once she gets over herself."

Jun nods, rubbing the back of his head. "Right... I was just gonna say she's pretty. I guess you're probably right too, though." He says, blushing. You shrug.

"I don't envy Obito sensei, though. I'm not sure I can really see us acting as a cohesive unit." Your words come out a bit harsh, but Jun doesn't seem to have taken any offense. It's not wrong though, with a team of a wannabe princess kunoichi, a monk with no actual training, and you, you don't see yourself become as tightly knit as you'd think most teams are supposed to.

"I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Aren't we getting along pretty good now?" Jun asks, offering a wide grin.

You nod, "Yeah, I guess we are." You return his smile, but the nice moment is ruined, when you hear loud, angry girl approaching you.

"Hey!" Mariko shouts, "What are you two doing here early? And where's Obito sensei?"

Jun shrugs, "He hasn't arrived yet, and we were just talking."

Mariko glares at Jun, but then turns to you, "You're the smart one, right? What were you doing here?"

You look up at her, "I came here to train, I wanted to make sure I'm ready for our first day as proper genin. Why are you being so hostile? We're just sitting here." Mariko glares at you, before sitting down, a little ways away from you and Jun.

"Fine, I believe you. But, if we're all a team, we shouldn't keep secrets from one another." She says, looking between the two of you.

"No one kept any secrets from anyone..." You point out, but she simply ignores you.

"When it comes to actually doing missions, I think we should strategize. I'm clearly the best ninja amongst the three of us, so I should definitely be our heavy hitter when it comes to fights. You guys can both be my support ninja." Jun starts to nod along with her, but you shake your head.

"That's ridiculous. I'm pretty sure none of us have the abilities to take a lead role in fights anyways. What's the highest rank technique you know?" You ask.

She grins, "Rank C."

Damn, she definitely has you beat there.

You're saved from having to come up with a rebuttal, when almost out of nowhere, your instructor, Obito Uchiha appeared, rising out of a cloud of smoke.

"Nice to see you all here on time!" Obito cheerfully bellows, looking between the three of you. "Hopefully you all followed my instructions, and none of you ate breakfast?"

You shake your head, Jun simply says "Nope!" but Mariko lets out a groan. "Sensei, it was terrible! My manservants prepared the most beautiful breakfast, and I had to turn it down!"

Obito nods sincerely, "I'm sorry, Mariko, but it's pretty important."

He reaches into a pocket on his vest, before pulling out a pair of bells.

"I'm sure you must all be starving, but that's simply good incentive. You see, we need to do one last test, those who succeed will be treated to lunch by yours truly. Those that fail... will be sent back to the academy."

"What?!" all three of you cry at once.

He laughs, "I know, I know, shocking. Thing is, only a small percentage of the graduating class can actually become genin every year, to keep to an elite level of Konoha ninja."

"This test is a modification on a test my sensei gave to my team when we were young, and his sensei before him. It is a test with an extremely low success rate. There are currently two clones of myself in Konoha, each with a bell. The two of you that bring a bell back to me, will pass. The third one will be disqualified, and will have to return to the academy. These bells are your life, at this point, fight for them."

With that, the Obito standing in front of you vanishes in another cloud of smoke, leaving the three of you standing in the training ground.

Alright, if I roll higher than a seventy take my vote for working with team mates, if it;s lower then we rush to Konoha. Gotta limit meta knowledge somehow.
>>
>>2934660
>try to cooperate with them.
Teams are a trio for a reason! If one of us go back to the academy, the other two won't have enough power to finish the future missions. We must find a way so that we all win this, or it's better to just go back to the academy and try again next year.
>>
>>2934710
We don't know that. For all we know they make teams out of the students who pass the bell test.
>>
>>2934660
>Rush to Konoha! Your teammates will slow you down.
I'm voting less because of not wanting to meta and more because IC senju is being an ass and the other guy, despite being an agreeable sort, is kind of an idiot and already falling for a pretty face he's known for a total of 20 minutes. I'm just saying, if I was this kid and didn't know the trick of this test, I wouldn't exactly be scrambling to push teaming up with either.
>>
>>2934710
Wait why would push that hard and willingly go back to the academy for two people you met yesterday. One of which the MC has already showed frustration with in quest?
>>
>>2934722
And if we are the only one to pass maybe they'll just have us apprentice under a jonin and we can get solo training.
>>
>>2934721
This makes no sense. Why would we even be assigned an instructor if it's gonna be mix and matched right after?

>>2934729
I figure it's better than dying out there because you don't have someone watching your back.
>>
>>2934748
To test how certain combinations work and make the students take it more seriously. Maybe they want to see how a trio works together before committing. Sure student A and B passed, but they both almost killed each other completing the test. Would you want to keep them on the same team?
>>
>>2934693
Team Jun all the way!
>>
>>2934748
>This makes no sense. Why would we even be assigned an instructor if it's gonna be mix and matched right after?
No it makes sense. Even if it's not the real reason as we all know, it doesn't change the fact that as ninja we will be changed in and out of different teams, roles, and missioms throughout our careers. That's not to mention deaths, betrayals, etc and it would make sense to see how someone could come to the conclusion that this is meant to stress that not only does the mission come first and that failure means death (or going back to the academy in this case), but that you'll lose team mates on the way and have to deal with it instead of trying to prioritizing them and coming in empty handed. Hell the white fang of konoha is a sad reminder of that lesson.
>>
>>2934755
Doesn't quite fit my occam's kunai, but it's not like it's up to me to decide.
>>
>>2934766
Of course we should and will learn to work with our team and I'm sure I'll probably end up liking them better as I get to know them or whatever but until then I'm going to vote like how a 12 year old would act when frustrated with his team and try to secure my win.

But no, this means too much for you, you've worked too hard to deal with the possibility of losing your spot. You don't say a word to them, before rushing off towards Konoha.

You break out into a sprint, jumping up into the trees and quickly dashing between branches to get closer to the main village.

You see Mariko pass you first, she even turns back to stick her tongue out at you as she jumps ahead. She's faster than you, even when you try to catch up, you already expended quite a bit of energy with your training earlier, and the hunger was starting to get to you. Jun runs past you just before you make it to Konoha, although you don't think he even noticed you.

By the time you get past the gates, Jun and Mariko are both chasing after two seperate Obito clones. One was heading off towards the Konoha Monument, while the other was heading off towards the Uchiha district and the Police Headquarters.

You rush after Mariko, although you stay far enough behind that she doesn't notice you, as she's too focused on chasing after Obito. Your sensei is fast, of course, faster than either of you. So, both of you are having to push yourselves to keep up. Eventually, as your sensei picks up a greater lead, he jumps down from the rooftops, onto a fairly empty clearing in the streets below.

"C'mon, Mariko. Show me that Senju Will of Fire! I know you have it within you!" Obito calls towards the kunoichi. Mariko grits her teeth, before nodding.

"Fine then, I'd hoped I wouldn't need to go too far, but I suppose it's time for me to go all out!" She yells back, before charging towards him and leaping up into the air.

"Heaven Kick of Pain!" She cries as she brings her foot down towards Obito. Your sensei clearly wasn't expecting Mariko to act like she had, and he barely jumps out of the way on time, as Mariko ends up kicking the earth, sending out a massive shockwave that sends Obito flying backwards.

Afterwards, the clearly exhausted Mariko tries to search for Obito through the cloud of dust she just raised, although he's running off another direction.

Possibly. When it comes time to determine nature, that will be rolled randomly, and it will be possible to have two releases, which could be combined with enough training. Of course, if you train enough you'll be able to brute force your way to mastery of multiple releases, which could then, with more training lead to advanced releases.

Sound genjustus are legit, let's mess with the inner ear in particular. Considering how fast ninja move if we fuck with their balance they might kill themselves for us.

As an expirement bend over at the waist bring your right arm up place your left arm in the crook of your right arm, then pinch your nose with your right hand. Now spin around real fast a few times and then try to walk. That's what fucking eith your inner ear does to you. Now imagine we do that to a guy while we're both running and jumping at brrakneck speeds. Even as they recognize it it will be to late for them to course correct and they'll go plowing into something and while they're trying to regain their feet we can walk up and kill them.

Also tools, we need bitching ninja tools. I'm talking climbing claws, tanto, explosives and burning oil, bowdart gun, smoke bombs. Poison smoke bombs. We are weak, let's get creative and fuck with people the way ninja should.

...We gotta make it one-sided. Whenever he gives out any rival-like speech about being superior to us, we just clap him on the shoulder and go "Good show, man!"

Basically never ever acknowledge his rivalry with us.
>>
>>2937879
Or just walk away or pretend like we didn't hear it.

Ha, yes. This has all of my support going forward.

I'm pretty into both the weaponized instrument and the lightning based nerve hacking jutsu ideas. I still wanto pad out our ninjutsu and make a nin/gen based ninja to both really make use of our high end seals and to not put all our eggs in one basket. Learning minor genjutsus to use together in different combinations to mess with enemies, while learning strong offensive jutsu to up our attack. That with training up stamina, should be a good way to start building up MC. Basically
>get stamina up to 2 to 3
>build up a number of low to mid tier genjutsu
>1 to 3 different offensive ninjutsu to up direct combat ability
>>
>>2937879

We just always think he's talking about someone else.
>>
>>2937935
I agree, but I think the instrument genjustsu should be our main focus with the lighting jutsu being secondary. After all if we can paralyze people we could easily just kill them with a kunai or have our partners do it.
>>
>>2937937
And when he's talking to us alone, we just look around and go "Wow, you're rival is a master of stealth. Good thing you got the sharingan.".

My only issue with sound based genjutsu is that, we know that headphones and radios exist in canon, which means any ninja would be able to just play white noise through them leaving it useless.
My money would be on the sense of feeling. Let Katsuo get his taijutsu upinstead and when he fights he leaves just the faintest static electricity cloud around his body. You exchange blows and his genjutsu has you trapped.

>>
>>2937998
You need hearing in a large battle like that, if you have all that white noise your not going to be able to hear important things like kunais coming at you from behind.
>>
>>2937998
Yea cause all ninja bring along their Walkman's when going into combat . . . It'll be a none issue 99% of the time and no one is suggesting that be the only thing we can do.
>>
>>2937998
I would argue just having different genjutsu that affect different sense, with an instrument or special tool to quick shot sound based genjutsu on enemies. Like I said, let's not put all our eggs in one basket.
>>
>>2937998

If they turn on the white noise we've denied them one of their senses. If they are functionally deaf that makes it that much easier for us to win.
>>
>>2938102
Far as I can see if we have a focus in genjutsu, some ninjutsu as a backup, and a decent form of cqc we should be okay. We just have to not end up falling behind in our major style because we wanted to round ourself out more.
>>
>>2938122
That's fair but you have to remember you have to be good at everything to be a jounin, even if you have a preferred specialization. Got to be at around all 3s. Even jounin like Gai and Kurenai, who were all about their taijutsu and genjutsu respectively, had around 3s and 4s in multiple stats. It's kind of expected as konoha are pretty much elite of the elite by ninja standards. Not to say we shouldn't focus on our strengths but being well rounded is pretty much required to get to high tier ninja status.
>>
>>2938147

Testing, testing.

And while I'm at it I'd point out we are Genin, not even Chunin yet. Lets worry about meeting Jonin standards if we get that far. For right now we need some aces up our sleeves more than we need a stacked deck.
>>
Testing.

Is the reason Sasuke sees us a rival because of our skill in Genjutsu? I mean, aren't the Uchiha the specialists on that in Konoha due to their eye powers?
>>
>>2938357
As much as every skill is a specialty to the Uchiha due to the fact being an Uchiha is playing on easy mode.
>>
>>2938357

I think he marked us as his rival because we were the only one who ignored him, combined with the fact we did well.

He may have seen it as an insult. "I'm so far above you I don't even have to acknowledge you or your skills." since that's the kind of attitude Sasuke often has it's the kind of thing he might see in others.
>>
>>2938387
Sasuke seems like he’s a tad more arrogant in this AU. I can see him being offended by us refusing to acknowledge him. Just like with our own Kuinoichi teammate
>>
>>2938417

Which would just make being oblivious to it as proposed earlier even funnier.

We back?
>69

You take off after Obito, but you're already tired. There's no way you can match up to his speed. Out of desperation, you reach into your backpocket and throw a kunai at your sensei. Your aim is good, but without turning around, Obito instantly vanishes. You immediately try to spot him again, but he seems completely gone. You check for genjutsu and find nothing.

https://youtu.be/E8oFiJgsyEc

You rush over to where he was to try to get a better look, only to be caught off guard when you hear Obito's voice coming from above you. "Fire Release: Fireball Jutsu!" You quickly look up and see Obito falling towards you, before breathing out a giant fireball, sending it directly towards you. In a split second, you use a substition jutsu, switching places with a log just as the fireball hits. You barely manage to make it out without getting burned, as the roof you had been standing on quickly erupted into flames.

As you stop to catch your breath for a few moments, you're not given much warning before Obito charges out of the fire, wielding a Fūma Shuriken. He rushes towards you, using the shuriken as a melee weapon to slash at you, something you just barely dodge away from each time. "You're smart, but like I said, you're weak. You're slowing down and getting tired. In a one-on-one fight, you're effectively crippled."

You grit your teeth and try not to show any weaknesses, he's right. You can't keep this up forever. Each of his attacks gets closer and closer to landing, you need to find a way to change up the game. If you can't take him on in a real fight, that just means you need to find a way to even the odds.

Oh shit we back? I thought 4chan was still crapping itself. Anyway I do agree that it's kind of far in the future but my point is that a jack of all trades thing isn't actually as big of an issue in this setting as it is in others. In fact being a master of all seems encouraged more than anything. Still, that's why I say we just focus on learning 1 or ninjutsu, a handful of genjutsu both for our very advanced skill in it and because most ninja are at a disadvantage against it because it's actually pretty hard to deal with for the majority of people, and building up stamina and chakra reserves to last longer.
>>2938357
Personally I think it's more because MC is highly skilled in certain areas, even outstripping most chunin in hand seals and pure genjutsu skill. Add that with not really giving sasuke any attention, hurting his ego a bit, and it's understandable this more narcissistic version of sasuke would both want to keep an eye on MC and even want to force MC to acknowledge him as the superior ninja.
>>
>>2938963
You have to be good in all areas, but by no means do you need to master everything. Guy has barely anything but Taijutsu and he's a jonin just fine, same with Kurenai and Genjutsu.
>>
>>2938991
The key word is specialize, he SPECIALIZES in taijutsu. He's actually really skilled in everything though, I don't think any of guys stats are below a 3. Even his grnjutsu skill, and I don't think he's ever once shot one off ever in the entirety of naruto. Your skills and your style/preffered specialization are two different things I would say. Figuring out a style or specialization is a good idea, but in the long run of our ninja career we shouldn't neglect any of our stats.
>>
>>2939014
Guy's ninjutsu and genjutsu skills are only 3 which is average chunin level. It balances out because of the fact he has fives in all the relative stats for his focus.
>>
>>2939025

"You're right sensei." You say, "I may not be the strongest, I may not have the chakra of a Senju or a monk, but I have one thing no other ninja in Konoha has!" You strike a dramatic pose, and Obito immediately falls back into a defensive stance, preparing for whatever hidden, ultra powerful jutsu you're about to pull out. Instead, you leap forward, smashing your forehead hard against Obito's goggles.

Obito, who was expecting something very, very different from you stumbles backwards, struggling with his now broken goggles. "A brain." You finish, as you rush forwards, aiming for the bell attached to his vest. Hearing you coming, your blinded sensei jumps away. You've taken out one of his senses, which should even the odds a little bit, but of course battling a jōnin was never going to be as simple as that.

"Playing off of my expectations..." Obito chuckles, "Like I said, you're smart. But it's still not enough. You need more than cheap tricks to take down an enemy, and that's when you reach the end of your rope."

"Well then," another voice from behind you calls out, "Maybe I can help with that!"

You turn, to see Mariko charging from behind you. The complete idiot just wasted her stealth advantage, which was invaluable considering up until that moment, neither you or Obito seemed to know she was following you.

https://youtu.be/5kQWQiMypjc

"Earth Style: Flying Stones Jutsu!"

She suddenly slams her fists down, causing the earth below her to rise up and fire at Obito, several of them slamming into your sensei. Obito is buried under a heap of stones, and you and Mariko are left standing, unsure what to do with one another while Obito is down.

>>

She isn't going to accept that. She's too proud and would wonder why she's even discussing letting the "peasant" have first dibs.
>>
>>2939177

I’ll support this

>>2939209
Play it off with a little kowtowing, like we’re holding the bell *for her* or something like that.
>>
>>2939215
She's not dumb. Besides if we try to be diplomatic about this we are wasting precious time. If we waste time trying to convince Mariko of some bullshit, there is a very good chance Obito is gonna do something.
>>
Honestly we should seal her in a genjustu or let her have it and do another thing. Anything else is letting Sensei have time to wake up.
>>
>>2939230
She’s no idiot, but her ego is massive. I think with a few fancy words we can get her to see things our way.
>>
If he is even knocked out/incapacitated that is.
>>
>>2939246
Then she's an idiot. What fancy words could we have to convince her to risk going back to the academy? The only way this works is if we give her the bell as a show of good faith.
>>
>>2939249
Not being an idiot doesn't make you immune to persuasion, and she has a pretty large ego. I think playing off of that is a pretty viable option.
>>
Remember guys we believe this is something where one of us has to fail. Just trap her in a genjutsu so we can take the bell and run.
>>
>>2939247
He’s probably not

>>2939249
I dunno, tell her if she’s as great as she says she is that she should have little fear of getting the other bell. Least of all with our help. Be sure to mention how great her clan is for good measure.
>>
>>2939254
It makes you immune to stupid arguments though. How is she going to just accept to give the bell to some weakling she just met, who, might I remind you, is more tired than she is right now. We have no grounds to demand being allowed to take that bell. It'll just devolve into an argument and give Obito time to do something. We could leverage letting her take the bell for help getting the other one though. That's the only route I see to convincing her and I haven't been given an explanation of how we could "persuade" her to give us the bell that didn't end up inadvertently characterizing Mariko as a dumbass.
>>
>>2939257
That sounds like something Naruto would fall for. Minus the having a clan/family part.
>>
>>2939272
>>2939268
She honestly seems like our team’s Naruto. Barring that, she’s been pining for attention and recognition pretty much the entire time we’ve known her. I feel like if we finally started to suck up to her, then she’d be easy to manipulate.
>>
>>2939287
If we give her the bell we could probably get her cooperation. If we don't and instead try to take the bell for ourselves, I don't see how that doesn't devolve into an argument/fight. Unless she is our team's Nart. In which case yea, not the brightest bulb it might work. Guess we don't know her enough yet.
>>
If we can even say our team even has someone like Nart. Don't know them enough yet.
>>
>>2939307
Yeah, I’ll admit it’s taking a bit of a risk. I’m kind of thinking it could work largely based on what bits of her personality we’ve seen so far.

Anon, I don't think you know what being very skilled means.

You kinda have to pick one here. If there's a baseline skill in my chosen career, and I am better than average in that skill, then I must, by the most basic of fucking logic, be GOOD at that skill. Not necessarily remarkable or amazing, but still GOOD at it. You CANNOT be better than average at something without being good at it.

Genjutsu and Taijutsu synergize well together, with each making openings and distractions for the other, same as how people will combine Ninjutsu and Taijutsu. Gen and Nin work more at cross-purposes when you try to combine them by both requiring hand seals, and both draining our chakra (which we, not being a freak of nature like canon Nalt, have a limited pool of).

>>
>>2939458
To be fare I dropped the quest around the time we met the owls and then we were going so many different directions.
>>
>>2939453
The problem though is that, again, we've only GOT two hands to make seals with.
So juggling both Ninjutsu and Genjutsu is a fools errand. Either one can be effectively shored up with Taijutsu because it's literally a big fancy word for "knowing how not to get your shit stomped the moment an opponent gets into melee range".
Personally I'd have wanted to go Ninjutsu focused, but /qst/s Genjutsu fetish has trapped us on this route.
>>
>>2939460
All your rambling about /qst/ having a genjutsu fetish is ridiculous. Almost any time a Naruto themed quest comes up we go Taijustsu and any hint of an idea of going genjutsu is immediately stomped into the ground
>>
>>2939460

And I personally want to spec hard into ninja tools and stealth, and be an actual fucking ninja instead of a shitty magic samurai without a weapon, but we can't have nice things.

You are absolutely right about the hands thing though, shame the other guy can't see that. We really don't need ninjutsu, at least not much. I'd say having some ninjutus is important though, because then we can play a "is it real or isn't it game" with genjutsu. Show them the illusion of technique they know we can do so they waste energy dealing with techniques that don't exist, or make them think we can only do illusions and then actually do the technique they think is an illusion and catch them with it. That sort of thing. Which would require we be able to do the jutsu as well as make illusions that mimicked them, because if it became known we could only do illusions then the games up. We can't threaten with something everyone knows we don't have.
>>
>>2939469
Could be worse you could be a puppetfag
>>
>>2939460
All of that sounds ridiculous anon. First off just because you can't shoot off a gen and ninjutsu at the exact same time doesn't mean they can't be used effectively together. Not to mention a habd seal stat at 4 means you can shoot off jutsu really quickly anyway. Plus sure you keep saying taijutsu works better together with genjutsu, but what are you going to do, punch him while trying to use genjutsu. They're all vast arts with near limitless applications and combinations. There's no hard fact on what works better with what, you've just got to be creative with how you use them.

>>
>>2939469
Exactly. The one time we tried going full genjustu with Takeshi in Mini's quest the more the ninfags pushed us to generalizing we generalized. At this point in that quest with our Boil release we have basically given a backseat to Genjutsu. I'm not saying nin is bad. I am saying its stupid how everytime genjutsu gets brought up its always "waahhh we can never be as good as the eyeniggers waaahh" and then we into ninjutsu/whatever the fuck else cause anons have a hate boner for Genjutsu.
>>
>>2939480
....what if we got earth nature and made a mecha golem jutsu?
>>
>>2939476

No, we don't punch someone while using genjutsu, we kick him while using genjutsu. Seriously, we need to pick a Taijutsu style built around kicks and footwork that leaves the hands free, so we can fend off people with our feet while we use our hands to make magic gang signs to hypnotize them with.
>>
>>2939487
Ships sailed, plus we Konoha doesn't have puppet masters so we couldn't really learn it well without connections to the Sand.
>>
>>2939486
I never said that to be fair, I'm actually all for upping our genjutsu to 5 if possible and being a complete master at it. I'm just saying if I had to chose between ninjutsu or taijutsu as our secondary, I'd go ninjutsu.

To be far Genjutsu is more than just visual illusions my dude. At its core its more about controlling a persons the chakra to the cerebral nervous system. So someone could see/hear/smell/feel/ etc. something or a thousand other combinations of the above plus the lose of any of the five senses to a wide range of degrees. Anons have already speculated some cool things we could do already.

But here's the problem. It's not because we can't use both at once, but that NEITHER one wants to be in super close combat.
We absolutely NEED to have a melee option, so we don't get our shit pushed in the moment someone gets close enough to punch us in the face or disable our hands.
>>
>>2939497
One offensive way of using genjutsu would be learning one that just completely overloads the senses. Taste touch, sight, hearing, everything. I don't care who you care, getting successfully hit by something like that and feeling the full brunt of completely overloading every sense you have at once will knock you out no question.
>>
>>2939504
There are ninja tools to help us get range like smoke bombs.
>>
>>2939497

I was lightning speculation anon, was on my phone at the time, but even that relies on being able to actually do a shocking grasp jutsu, so they think it was just the shocking grasp when it was actually a genjutu and since they think it was the shocking grasp they aren't looking for the genjutsu.
>>
>>2939497
Maybe we could find a way to make the body into thinking its having a heart attack or at least fuck with there body chemistry. Or maybe make them unable to access their memories from before being trapped in the genjutsu, after all if you can't remember what things are like outside the genjutsu you probably wouldn't be able to tell if your in one.
>>

That's not true, you can use gen/ninjutsu that work for melee. Like for genjutsu, a few easy ones is doing what the sound ninja did and using a tool like bells on you to cast sound based genjutsu on them when fighting close ranged, you could also use genjutsu to create afterimages/fake images as you fight so that they can't get a bead on how you're attacking. With ninjutsu you could do a straightforward one like forming armor out of the element, using a shortranged attacks like a jutsu that blasts arcs of lightning at enrmies near you, creating area of effects around you, or coating your fists/forming weapons from jutsu. You could use a jutsu that forms blades of wind circling around your hands and just slash at enemies in close or far range. Remember that ninjutsu is basically magic and that you can make some pretty amazing ones if you're creative enough.
>>
>>2939522

The thing is the magic gang sign requirement for nin or genjutsu is a bit of a problem when you are in really close.

Yeah if you charge up first, or if you are skilled enough to just use pure elemental chakra there are some great ways to use nin jutsu to supplement taijutsu and strengthen it, but when you are right in someones face you can't reasonably expect to stop and occupy both of your hands flashing magic gang signs. If your hands are busy the other guy will have free reign to hit you.
>>
>>2939527
You keep forgetting one handed hand signs are a thing.
>>
>>2939527
It's not all that much of a problem if you're quick as fuck and have excellent chakra control

As soon as Mariko makes eye contact with you, you shrug. "Sorrry, princess." You had the hand signs prepared as soon as she'd revealed herself, but as soon as you two make eye contact, you finish the seal with the Ram hand seal before she can even think to avert her gaze.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNjtroPFQ1s

"Endless Staircase Jutsu!"

Mariko's eyes suddenly go wide. "K-Katsuo? Where am I? Wh-what?" She begins to walk in place, as if climbing a staircase that isn't real. You smirk to yourself. Just as planned. The Endless Staircase Jutsu is a simple genjutsu of your own design, trapping the user in a room with a staircase, climbing up endlessly. Or at least, until the genjutsus ends. You don't have the energy to worry about keeping her sealed in the illusion, so you quickly pick up a rock and hit her on the back of the head with it, knocking her unconscious.

Rushing over to where Obito was crushed by the rocks, you start to move them, revealing absolutely only shattered goggles. Not even the bell. You frantically start to search amongst the rubble for the bell. You need to find it before Mariko gets up, or the real Obito shows up. Surely he'd know if his Shadow Clone was destroyed, and who knows if he'd interfere in this. As you do so, you hear a voice from below. "Earth Style: Headhunter Jutsu!"

You try to jump away, but you're too exhausted at this point to make your legs move on time, and a hand easily reaches out of the earth, grabbing your ankle and painfully yanking you down into the earth, so only your head is left above ground.

Obito rises out of the earth and takes a look around, before shaking his head with a sigh. "Damn. I really thought one of you might be able to do it."

He doesn't free you, instead he quickly clears away the rubble with an earth style jutsu, and goes to pick up Mariko, carrying her over to you, and dropping her on the ground next to you. Soon after, another Obito arrives, carrying Jun. Dropping him on your other side, the two Obito's pound their fists together. "Yo!" They greet each other, before both disappear in smoke.

Jun wakes up first, looking around, before he sees you and lets out a scream. "Katsuo!"

You do your best to nod at him. "I'm okay. Sensei trapped me here. Think you can help free me?" He nods, and begins trying to dig at the earth with his hands. He's clearly not making much progress. "Wake up Mariko, she used an Earth Style Jutsu earlier."

With a blush, Jun goes to shake Mariko awake. Mariko jumps up as soon as she's awake. "Wh-wha? Huh? What happened?"

"We lost the exercise," you mutter bitterly.

Mariko looks to the verge of tears, but before she starts to cry, you get her attention.

"Can you help me out of this?"

She scoffs, "Why should I help you after all this?"

Which we only ever saw like once. And even then it's still a hand occupied while the other guy has both, which leads into my other point

>>2939530

I call bullshit on the idea that you can be fast enough to stop and do your magic gang signs before the other guy can react. Because if you are supernaturally fast, then opponents at your comparable skill level should be equally supernaturally fast. I'm a martial arts and I've fought in tournaments, the though of just electing not to use one of my hands when the other guy is right up in my face feels like suicide to me. You try and use just one hand or stop using your hands for a moment you get plastered.

I repeat, if you use your hands, or a hand, to stop and flash magic gang signs while someone of comparable skill is right up in your face with lethal intent the other guy is going to kill you. There isn't the time and you need your hands to fend him off.

And one handed seals is presented as being REALLY fucking hard. Grand total of SIX people are ever shown doing it in the manga: Zabuza (obviously it was a necessity for him to learn due to needing a hand for his penis substitute), Haku (specifically for Thousand Flying Water Needles of Death, which used totally unique Seals unrelated to the traditional two-handed ones), Itachi (he's fucking Itachi, on top of having Eyenigger eyehax), Minato (he's fuckin' Minato), Sauce (Eyenigger eyehax), Deidara (Akatsuki), and Sai (freak of nature).

Yes, I am viewing it through the lens of real life experience. Saying "it's magic don't gotta explain shit" and throwing logic out the window is just lazy as fuck.

Logically if you are in a fight with a skilled opponent you shouldn't give up use of your hands. You need those, unless your fast enough and your footwork is good enough that you can evade them without needing to block or deflect their strikes, but that leads me to my next point

Logically if you use magic to be super fast, and your opponent uses magic to be super fast, then you can't assume you would be fast enough to make multiple hand motions in the time it takes him to make a single punch. Lower hands to make magic gang signs, get most of the way there (i'll be generous about our speed with magic gang signs) take blow to throat, fight done.

Maybe i'm just being autistic, but I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that things make sense. I can understand magic handsigns while you've got some space, but I just can't see it in use during close quarters combat. I don't even remember seeing that ever, when they used those things they usually created space first. The only time I can think of it being used when they were right next to them was Haku. Thing is then there was a skill gap, and speed gap, which was in Haku's favor. Couldn't have done that in a fight with an equally skilled and experienced opponent I think.

>>2939559

Well yeah, but Taijustu is magic martial arts, so I can't help but try and look at is as martial arts, just with faster reaction speed and greater strength then is humanly possible. I assume that because the characters are (ostensibly) human, that the reality of a close quarters bare handed fight would be similar just at a faster more furious pace with greater consequences for mistakes.

Also, all memes aside, the bloodline being inherently cursed is absurd.
The Clan as a construct is most certainly untrustworthy and scheming, with a baseline resentment towards the larger village making their scheming more concerning than, for example, the Mooneyes' elaborate Crusader Kings breeding plan.
But the idea that every single Uchiha is inherently evil because of their blood is mostly just a funny meme pointing out an unintentional implication on Kishimoto's part with how many of the villains either are Uchihas, or are only doing their evil shit because of the Uchihas.
Plus, y'know, Tobirama was genuinely the most competent of the Hokages, even able to put aside his distaste towards and mistrust of the Uchihas enough to not institute a Final Solution for The Uchiha Problem.

Well, that and he was an old man character from around the Minato/Might Daiand most of the characters he interacted with were 12 year olds.

>Sakura fags. They literally need to die.
Does it count if I think early series Sakura is a good concept (actually very similar in conception to how /qst/ protagonists often start out with the booksmarts but not the raw strength to back them up), and had a lot of potential, but then she just stagnated and never paid that potential off? And I would like to see some QM try to make her not be complete shite?
>>
>>2941421
I actually have no problem with sakura besides her waste in potential and the sasuke boner she had that made no sense. I assume the waste of potential wouldn't be an issue in a quest where she's more prominant and I guess the sasuke boner would be too if you successfully charmed her well enough. I'm not sure if we'll even interact with her much but if it was a possibility in quest I wouldn't be against it. I don't know how bad sakurafags might have been on other sites but the only quest I can think of here that had sakura as a potential waifu was konoha quest. There was clear support early on from polls but it was civil and sakurafags were pretty quiet compared to other waifus.
>>
>>2941421

No, this is acceptable. Sakura was not irredeemable in the beginning. Yes, she had flaws, but that's called being human. The problem with Sakura is they will scream up and down about how she's perfect and did nothing wrong and generally just chimp out about how she should have been with Naruto and the writer is a hack, and somehow go on to blame Naruto for things that were legitimately not his fault, and in general just worship the ground that 2d cunt walks on even after all the shit Sakura pulled and how daft she ended up being.

Seriously. Read some of the Sakura fans on suicide watch screen caps, those people are insane. Some of them literally threatened suicide because their chosen waifu lost out for being a cunt. You clearly are not that level of mentally ill.

You sigh,"Fine, I'm sorry." You say, glancing up at Mariko. You don't like apologizing very often, but you clearly upset her. "We're a team, right? At least until Obito sensei comes back to send us back to the Academy."

She pouts, but eventually, with a sigh, she stomps onto the ground. The earth shifts beneath you and spreads out beneath you, opening up a hole wide enough for you to climb out. You scramble to get up, but your exhaustion is too much.

Jun and Mariko both reach out, grabbing your hands and pulling you out. The three of you fall back onto the ground with you now free of your earth prison, although covered in dirt still.

"K-Katsuo?" Mariko asked, looking away from you. You turn towards her, "What's up?"

In a shockingly frightened tone of voice, Mariko speaks up. "Wh-what's the academy like?"

Jun also speaks up, for the first time since you've known him sounding actually upset. "Y-yeah, and do you think they'll make me go back to the temple?"

Oh, of course. You'd forgotten both of your teammates had never gone to the Academy before. They were probably even more scared than you are to go back to the Academy.

"Honestly?" you look between Mariko and Jun. "It sucks. You go home covered in bruises every night, you need to keep to an elite level if you want to pass, and you get no recognition whatsoever. I spent my days at the academy, studying, practicing, sparring, and then going home to pass out. You don't really have time for anything else. And for you Jun... probably. Konoha has the resources to host shinobi, but not academy students."

https://youtu.be/u2oql-D7euc

Both of them look down. You see tears start to fall from Mariko's face, although she's doing her best to make sure Jun and you don't see. Meanwhile, Jun just stares at the ground. You feel a surprising pang of sadness, you don't like seeing them like this, you realize. You'd thought at the very least, getting to see Mariko not so arrogant would be satisfying, but you're surprised by how hollow it all feels.

You force yourself to stand on shaky legs. "You know, I might have a plan."

Both of them look up in shock, "You do?" Mariko asks, wiping the tears from her eyes. "What is it?" Jun asks excitedly, as he jumps to his feet.

"I was just thinking about what Obito sensei said at the beginning of this. He said everyone that brought him a bell would pass, right? Well, he never specified which bell."

Mariko's eyes go wide. "You're right!"

She bolts up to her feet, as if she hadn't been sitting in the dirt crying a few moments ago.

"Ohohoho! I knew the glory of the Will of Fire couldn't be stopped! Team 9 will live on!"

Jun blinks, "What do you guys mean?"

You grin, "We could get any bell. I think I know a shop that sells them nearby."

"But isn't that cheating?" Jun asks, scratching his head.

With a chuckle, you pat him on the shoulder. "Maybe to a monk, but to a shinobi, there's no such thing."

https://youtu.be/PFIILAESjYY

The three of you rush off to find the shop. Well, you try, but after finding your legs unwilling to cooperate, Jun and Mariko help carry you to the ninja shop.

When you arrive at the shop, a girl maybe a year older than you is sitting behind the counter, fiddling with a strange looking kunai.

"Are you guys alright?" She asks, concern visible on her face as she looks over the three of you, covered in scrapes and bruises.

"We're fine," You say, "Do you have any bells?"

She nods, although still clearly a little perturbed. "Sure. Anything else?"

You decide not to argue with her, and Mariko walks up, quickly paying for the bells.

The three of you leave the shop, and Mariko holds up the three bells, before grinning. "We did it! We're gonna be actual genin now!" She hands a bell to you, which you take, and then hands the other to Jun. As her fingers brush against Jun's and, he blushes again. "Th-thanks! It still feels somewhat unearned though..."

You shrug, but before you can respond to him, a voice rings out from behind you. "I cannot believe it." You turn, to see Obito standing on the roof of the shop.

He jumps down, glaring between the three of you. "You three all utterly failed to get the bells from me, and then when you lose, you rush off to buy a few more?"

"But you never specified which bell we needed." You point out.

"The exercise was never about the bells, Katsuo." He replies sternly. Crossing his arms, "Whose idea was this?"

You look between your two teammates, and think back to how distraught they were before. You'd never thought of yourself as the kind of person to really stick your neck out for others. Somehow though, you know what you have to do.

You take a deep breath, and force yourself to step forward so you're face-to-face with Obito.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI55p41FYik

"It was mine." Jun and Mariko both stare at you shocked, but you can't read Obito's expression whatsoever. "Send me back to the academy if you must, but Jun and Mariko don't deserve to be punished." You reach up, untying your forehead protector, and holding it out. "If being a genin means turning my back on my friends, then maybe I don't want to be a genin."

"Hey!" Jun steps forwards, "I agree! If you're going to send Katsuo back to the academy, I'll just pack my bags too! We're a squad, right?"

Mariko steps forward as well, untying her own. "They're right, sensei. Even if it means bringing dishonor upon the Senju clan, so be it."

You look between the three of them, shocked that they'd stand up for you. You feel a strange sensation in your chest, and you try to blink away the tears that are beginning to form. "Guys..."

Obito tries to keep a stern face, but soon tears start to form in his eyes too. "Y-you guys! That was so emotional! You all pass!"

"What?!" The three of you cry out.

"Like I said, the bells were never the point of the exercise. Nor did I really care all that much about seeing what you could do in the field. No, you see, a shinobi must be able to see through deception, like the deception I was feeding you this entire time. While it may be true that breaking the rules and abandoning your mission make you scum in the shinobi world, but to abandon your friends you must be far worse than scum. Seeing you all chase after me one by one and seeing you all fail, because you don't have your squadmates to counteract your weakness, I thought you would be another squad of unprepared kids. But, you joined forces, you helped one another, and you stood up for each other when it really matters. That shows the strength of character that every shinobi needs deep down inside."

"D-don't you ever pull such a mean trick on us again!" Mariko shouts, pouting.

Jun just laughs. "Oh, I'm so glad. I don't even have any bags to pack..."

You find yourself almost speechless. "Th-thank you, Obito sensei."

Obito nods to you, "As of today, Team 9 is an official Konohagakure team! Tomorrow, you will begin your first mission. Now, who wants ramen?"

The three of you are starving, he could have offered week old fish, and you'd still probably eat it at this point. The four of you head off towards Ramen Ichiraku, together as a proper team for the very first time.

We didn't reach much of a consensus on a weapon of choice other than "not a sword", did we?
I suggest a hand axe, like the one Anotsu Kagehisa from Blade of the Immortal uses (see pic attached).

Alternatively, if we and going down the ANBU route, we could do it like >>2937575 suggested and have a long-necked string instrument that hides a short spear inside it.
>>
>>2942163
I'd usually agree about meta but to be fair anons were pretty good about dealing with the bell test. Plus what >>2942196 is saying. We're not doing it anyway so it doesn't matter, but it would still be cool to clash with Zabuza and Haku on an entirely different mission and circumstances at some point.
>>2942392
I'm not against it but I feel like that's it would just be a sword with a different flavor to it. If we pick up a go to weapon I would prefer a chain sickle or maybe a collapsible staff/spear
>>
>>2942589

Naw man, tekko kagi, or maybe a nice pair of weighted tonfa.
>>
>>2942604
>tekko kagi
Claws? Yeah I'm sold on those. They're also rather small so we can easily have some other weapon on us.
>>
>>2942589
I'm completely fine fighting them in a completely different scenario. I actually really like the characters, I'm just sick of that mission. It always goes the same.
>>
>>2942649

Tekko kagi are a nice choice because they can be used with a lot of standard hand to hand combat techniques. After that all we'd really need would be a nice pair of armored vambrace and gauntlets. A segmented set that wouldn't restrict wrist motion, and we'd be golden.

The thing about using a weapon is it takes a long time and a lot of practice, it's a whole nother skill we'd have to learn on top of everything else we are going for. Realistically I don't think we'd have the time to get good with a weapon and learn everything else we need, so rather than develop a whole new skill what we need is tools that can compliment existing skills.

With a bit of armor for our hands and forearms and a nice set of claws we don't need a larger weapon, we would just need better taijutsu, and we could block blades with the armor and deal out lethal hits eith the claws.

It'd be a lot easier, faster, less obtrusive and stealthier since we don't need to carry around or hide a large object, and we'd get up to speed and be able to use it faster.

Seriously, we don't need a large flashy weapon, that's a trap option and a time sink. We need claws and a little armor and taijutsu. Maybe a good dagger, maybe.

>>2942649
Have something like pic related hidden under our sleeves. Just ruin hands whenever we block.
>>
>>2942677

Ehh, that sort of thing looks cool, but realistically all it does is get stuck in things or get things stuck in it. Bad idea, very bad idea, no offense.
>>
Just remember we need something that we can use handsigns with or be able to quickly switch to being able to use handsigns.
>>
>>2942693

Ah. Uh....hmmm. Shit.

Well I stand by the armor. Vambrace and better taijutsu would go a long way, and if our concern is hand signs se can't very well do those holding onto a weapon anyway.

Unless we one handed seals, but das bullshit and we wouldn't be there for a long time.
>>
>>2942693
>>2942702
We can start with gauntlets to augment our punches (and maybe armored boots for kicking).
And considering how much bullshit there is in the Naruto-verse, Predator-style retractable claws shouldn't be too far out there as a weapon. We'd just have to earn enough funds to get them ourselves or become notable enough to have the village pay for them.
>>
>>2942718

Moreso than the punching I'm thinking about the blocking. I mean yes an armored back hand or elbow strike is devestating, but being able to deflect a sword or knife is important. Bladed weapons are something we will run into and we need an answer to them. A little armor on our forearms does quite nicely, allows us to use the same blocks we'd use for a punch or a kick.
>>
>>2942692
Oh yea practically speaking it's fucking dumb. So is half the weapons in Naruto and they work regardless. Why would these be such a stretch?
>>
>>2942755

Because I'm an avid martial artist and historian and a bit of an autist about it apparently, if asking for a degree of realism makes one an autist.

>>
>>2942758
>Because I'm an avid martial artist and historian and a bit of an autist about it apparently, if asking for a degree of realism makes one an autist.
In this setting? It totally does, no offence meant but come on, one of the most infamous modern day ninjas in the setting uses a large as fuck triple bladed scythe. It's not even magical or some shit, it's just big as fuck scythe that screams edge. This is not the kind of setting you want to get too hung up on realism with.
>>
>>2942772

Ideally I'd like it to apply to everything to some degree, but I have come to recognize that that's never going to happen, and I should just try to enjoy the ride and ignore the little voice screaming and writhing with pain in the back of my head.
>>

Today's the day.

You can't help but feel excited when you wake up. The time has finally come for your first true mission. Sure, you were only genin, so you weren't exactly set to do anything exciting, but it was still important. You hop out of bed as soon as your alarm goes off, and go through your morning exercises. You can already feel the improvements in your stamina all this extra exercise is having.

Afterwards, you shower and start to get dressed. You're still wearing just your plain old academy clothes and your Foreahead Protector tied around your forehead. If you were more concerned with originality, you might worry about how generic you looked, but for now, you decide your outfit is fine. Besides, at least your Forehead Protector serves its actual purpose.

You look at yourself in the mirror, and you're shocked at how much older you look already. You've only been out of the Academy for a few days, but you already look much wiser, and more experienced, almost like an actual Shinobi. The bruises might also have something to do with it.

As you put on your jacket, you hear a jingle in the pocket, where the shiny, silver bell Mariko bought you still is. Obito said something about taking souveneirs to remember your bonds of youth or something. He also made you take several pictures. You're starting to realize your Team Leader is quite the sentimental type, for a Jounin.

Still, he was right, you did form a bond with your Teammates, even if they both have problems, after the trials of yesterday, you felt the three of you grow much closer, especially after you all managed to succeed.

As you're about to rush out the door to meet up with the other members of Team 9, you can smell something delicious, and hear the sounds of laughter from downstairs. You don't want to be late, but you also don't exactly want to miss breakfast...

It's your first mission as a shinobi, there's no way you're going to be late! Even if it means missing out on breakfast, no matter how delicious it smells. Your mother usually doesn't have the time to cook for you and your sister, as she's busy with her own shinobi duties. So, you rush downstairs and out the door, only offering your family a wave as you leave.

You're sure they'll understand, you're going to meet the Hokage, after all!

You look up at the Great Hokage Rock. One of the first things taught in the Academy was who each of the heads on the mountain were. Hasihrama and Tobirama Senju, Hiruzen Sarutobi, and finally, Fugaku Uchiha. You grew up on stories of their exploits, each of them having some claim to being the greatest Shinobi of their era.

You're very nervous to be meeting one of the hokage face-to-face for the very first time, but you do your best to calm your nerves as you rush to the meeting spot. Jun is the only one there before you. You greet him, and soon after, Mariko, then Obito join you.

Obito looks between the three of you, attempting to look as stern as possible. "Now, all of you. Be respectful when meeting the Hokage. How you act now will reflect on me as well as you guys, so be careful, and only speak when spoken to." The three of you nod, although considering Mariko is on your team, you have to question how long that will last for.

Regardless, soon you and your team enter the Hokage's Office. The man himself is sat behind the desk, and you're shocked at how memorable his face seems. Even though you've never seen his face before, you've spent your whole life with it watching over you. He stands up, and the four of you bow before him.

Slowly, the Hokage speaks, his voice deep and serious sounding. "Good morning, Team 9. Today, you will take your first mission, working in service of the village of Konohagakure. Konoha has enemies all around, but through the combined strength of every Shinobi, including young genin like you three keep us strong. Ebisu, read them their missions."

He nods to his assistant, a man wearing a bandanna Forehead Protector and dark sunglasses. He steps forwards, opening a scroll.

"Of the D-Rank Missions available, there are three remaining. First, a troublesome child and his band of friends must be watched for the day. Second, a villager's pet cat has gone missing. Thirdly, a respected member of the village's garden is completely overgrown with weeds."

"What?!" Mariko cries. "That's it? Surely we can do something more exciting, right?"

Obito immediately cringes, "M-my apologies, Lord Hokage, what my student means to say is..."

The Hokage glares at Mariko.

You step in front of Mariko, and bow respectfully once more. "Lord Hokage, we will accept your mission to assist with the villager's garden."

This causes Mariko to burst out again, "Are you kidding, Katsuo?! That's literally the most boring one!"

Jun simply smiles, "I remember the monks had us spend our free time working the garden at the Temple, the relaxation helped us connect to our chakra."

Obito nods, and after clamping a hand over Mariko's mouth he bows his head to the Hokage. "We will return once the mission has been completed. Thank you, Lord Hokage." The Fourth simply nods, as Obito quickly pushes you three out of the room.

Once outside, Obito buries his head in his hands and lets out a groan. "I said no speaking without being spoken to! Mariko, you're fresh genin. You all start with D-Rank missions. Once you've proven yourself, you can get more advanced missions. You won't face any combat whatsoever until you take a C-Rank, and you won't be battling other Shinobi until you're at least Chunin." Mariko looks up at him, "But didn't we prove ourselves in our test yesterday? You said we passed! I don't see why we have to waste our time gardening."

Jun shrugs, "I like gardening."

Mariko pouts. "We're Shinobi now. We should be battling bad guys and doing stuff that actually uses our abilities!"

Obito shakes his head. "No means no, Mariko. None of you are ready to see actual combat. Outside the walls of Konoha, there are always dangers lurking, and you can never truly be safe. What might seem to be a simple mission can get dangerous fast. With D-Rank missions you can improve in a safe, controlled environment, as well as learn non-combat utilities for your techniques. Something you especially could use more experience with."

Mariko pouts, but seems to accept it, and you all head off to begin your very first mission. The address Obito leads you towards is a fairly simple looking home on the outskirts of Konoha. Obito knocks on the door, and an old man opens the door. "Oh, Kosuke sensei!" Obito says, surprised.

"Well, if it isn't little Obito. You've grown big and strong, haven't you?" The old man grins,

"We're here to help you with your gardening issues, you made a request, apparently."

The old man sighs. "I didn't make a request, I was simply talking... Bah, all you youngsters are all grown up now, and you think I'm helpless."

"It's my team's first mission. Please, allow us to help you!"

Despite his scowl, Kosuke relents, "Fine. Come in, all of you. My name is Kosuke Mauboshi. What are your names?" Obito interrupts, before any of you can introduce yourselves. "Kosuke is known as the World's Strongest Genin. He has served Konoha loyally his entire life, and I fought alongside him in the Third War."

Jun gives the old Genin a big smile, "We'll be glad to help you, Kosuke!"

Even Mariko nods, "Yeah, it's really no problem. It's the least we can do for someone who fought for our village." She bows, respectfully. Even if she can be obnoxious, she really does hold The Leaf in high regard.

Kosuke leads you out towards where his garden is. You find an uncontrolled mess of weeds, with several dead flowers poking up from below the weeds. Obito and the old man go back inside to catch up, leading the three of you to deal with the garden.

Jun looks around, slightly distraught. "It's a shame to see a place like this so unkempt." He immediately pulls out a kunai, and begins to start gardening the old fashioned way. Mariko, meanwhile begins to use her Earth Style Jutsu to help her get rid of the weeds faster. "It's strange to see someone so old be a genin..." It would be exhausting work to do it like Jun is, but it's not like you have any abilities that could help you like Mariko here.

You get down on your hands and knees, and start tending to the garden. Seeing Jun and Mariko clearly had the weeds covered, you start tending to the flowers. You read a book on botany a while ago, and although you don't have an expert knowledge, you know enough to give you a basic understanding as to what you're doing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qv7btgqaAGc

While you work, you look over to where Mariko is pulling up weeds, able to do so easily by shifting the earth to a near liquid form. "How have you already learned your nature already?" You ask, as you tend to the flowers. "I didn't think many fresh genin knew that."

She shrugs, "My aunt, the legendary Sannin, she taught me. She wanted to have something to help focus on." You nod, "Think you could help teach me? It could come in handy in a lot of ways."

She laughed, "I'm not sure I'd be able to teach you. Besides, aren't you supposed to stand in the back and use genjutsu and stuff? I didn't think of you as the Earth Style type."

You shrug, "If you're creative enough, you can use any style for just about anything."

The rest of the day goes by like that. By the time you're done the sun has set but the garden is in much better shape. It was hard work, but being able to look on what you accomplished with your team fills you with pride.

Unfortunately, the moment is ruined, when you hear strange noises coming from the other side of the house. Going to investigate, you see a group of three chunin, based on their flak jackets, although they don't look that much older than you. They're also drunk, based on the smell of sake which is strong even standing a ways away from them. You see them grafitti the side of Kosuke's house, only for the old man to storm outside.

"What are you doing!? You damned punks!" He shouts.

One of them, the largest of them glares down at him. "What are you gonna do about it, World's Strongest Genin? We out-rank you, remember?" The three all turn and laugh to one another.

The Chunin laughs and jokes, "Hah, is this kid your teammate Kosuke? Go back to the academy and stop hanging around worthless losers like this!" He shouts, but only because he doesn't realize he's already trapped himself.

A single look in the Chunin's eye, and he's done. This time, however, you've done a slight modification on the jutsu. "Eternal Spiral Jutsu!" By flattening the surface he thinks he sees, but still having it lead to nowhere, the confusion is more than enough to overload the drunk Chunin's mind. His confusion leads to him freaking out, desperately flailing.

His friends, not quite sure happened look at you. "H-hey! What did you do?" Both draw kunai, just as Mariko and Jun arrive. The Chunin are drunk enough to attack, despite being outnumbered now. One charges at you, while the other charges at Kosuke. Jun is quick enough to grab and get the old man out of the way.

You easily dodge out of the way of the drunken Chunin, the sake is dulling his abilities so it's easy enough to do. You jump above him, faster than he can even notice, so that by the time he's lunged at you, he falls face first into the mud. It's simple enough after that to pin him, and let Mariko and Jun take care of the other one.

Jun spends most of the encounter engaged in taijutsu with the Chunin. His fighting style is unlike any other you've seen in Konoha, you can see where his training with the Ninja Monks paid off. Soon, the fight is stopped, as Mariko knocks the Chunin unconscious with a kick to the back of the head.

Soon, Obito arrives. "I only left for fifteen minutes! What happened while I was gone!?"

Mariko grins, "We took out three Chunin! I think we proved we deserve a C-Rank Mission!"

You all explain the story to Obito, who skeptically looked at Kosuke, only for the old man to confirm your story. Kosuke nods, "They saved me, they definitely show quite a lot of promise for students of a slacker like you, Obito."

Obito sighs. "Stop ganging up on me, will ya? You guys did a good job. I'm sure the Hokage will be impressed. Now, work is done for the day. Enjoy the rest of your night kids."

Your team all head off their seperate ways. You decide to...

You decide to head towards the Library, to get some more studying in before it closes for the evening. You enter the building, it's scarecely populated this time of night, and you wave at the library worker, who knows you by now. You've spent a large portion of your childhood here, studying as much as you possibly can. Your parents trained you to work harder than your classmates, so you could keep up with all their special clan abilities. The Library effectively just feels like another home away from home. You wander through the bookshelves, picking out books you find interesting.

You only have time to study one tonight, or two, if you wanted a weaker grasp of both concepts. You find a table, and set the various books down, so you can better make your selection.

One of the most traditional C-Rank Genjutsu is The Optic Delusory genjutsu, which serves to mislead its target by changing the details of their environment. You essentially utilized the same principle, but applied it to sound. Using your new Aural Delusory technique, anyone you ensnare with it will have the sounds they hear sound as if they are coming from slightly different directions than they actually are.

You're expanding your list of techniques pretty well over the past couple of days. You'll have to test it out to properly classify it, but you're almost certain your new technique qualifies as a Class-C genjutsu. Your heart swells with pride, you're another step closer towards greatness.

As you return the books, in a secluded corner of the library, you hear the sounds of talking. It's curious that anyone would except for you would be here this late, so you take a peak, only to see another Team of Genin from your class, the smart kid, the fat boy, and the blonde girl! They're all huddled around a table.

"This has got to be the lamest thing you two have ever gotten me to do." The blonde girl says, glancing at the others.

The one with the top knot shrugs, "It's not that bad as a tactical simulation of sorts. It can get pretty tiresome though."

The fat one lets out a groan, "Guys, it's cool! Just give it a try." He grumbles in between munching a bag of some sort of snack.

You approach the trio, "Hey," you say, before realizing you can't remember any of their names. "What are you guys, doing in the library so late?"

The boy with the top knot glances at you, "Ah, Katsuo, right? We could ask you the same question."

You hold up the book which you were returning to it's proper location.

The blonde girl blinks blankly, "Shikamaru, who is this?"

The boy, Shikamaru apparently, sighs, "Man, you seriously can't even remember people you went to class with a couple of days ago? Talk about self absorbed..."

The fat one laughs, "Even I remember Katsuo, Ino! He's the guy who never talked and was always studying."

The blonde girl, apparently Ino hits the both of them on the head. "Shut up you two!" Then, smiling sweetly, she turns back to you. "Sorry for not remembering you, I didn't mean to be rude."

You can't help but laugh a little at seeing how the three of them act around each other. There's a clear comfort from having spent years in close quarters around each other. It's something you don't really have with anyone, aside from your parents and sister.

Shikamaru speaks up again, "To answer your question, Choji wants to show us a game he's found. I thought it'd be a nuisance, but it's not too bad. If you want, you could join us."

You shrug, "Sure, why not."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZeyNVms7jw

"That actually works out well," Choji says, opening another bag of chips. "It means we have a full squad."

You sit down at the table, and get a better look at this game they're all playing. It seems to be a map, drawn on a large scroll, with eight small wooden figurines placed on top of the map. On closer inspection, the figurines all display what seem to be Shinobi, most of them appear to be rank and file Iwagakure shinobi, but two of them are more distinct looking, and wearing Konoha gear.

You look back to Choji, "So, what sort of game is this again?"

"Well, it was originally invented by the Second as a strategic simulator to teach peacetime Shinobi how to deal with war. However, after his death, it was turned into a game. It's fun! You play a character, and you're supposed to do what that character would do." Choji says, excitedly.

You blink, "Character? What do you mean?"

Ino interjects, "See, I'm playing as this one." She points to one of the wooden figurines, a buxom Konoha kunoichi. "She's a beautiful Kunoichi who uses her looks to put her opponents off guard and to get what she wants." Tossing her hair back, Ino grins, until Shikamaru interupts.

"Of course you are." He interjects, deadpan. Ino scowls at him, but he pays her no mind. "I'm playing as a generalist, with decent capacity in all abilities."

"That's just 'cause you were too lazy to make a real character ahead of time." Choji grumbles at him.

Shikamaru shrugs, "It seemed like it'd be troublesome."

You scratch the back of your head. You can be any kind of shinobi you want in this game, apparently. That's a lot of options. Eventually, you think you come to a conclusion.

You've always been fascinated in the Samurai of the Land of Iron, and you don't exactly want to play a character that's too similar to you. You look at Choji. "Hmm, how about a wandering Samurai, working for the Leaf?" You say, and Choji's face lights up.

"Sure! That sounds awesome!" Choji says, before he pulls out a wooden figurine, depicting a robed figure with a sword, and handing it to you. You place it next to Ino and Shikamaru's figurines. "You need to name him," Choji says. "Mine is Mineko." Ino says. "I called mine Yukemura."

You ponder for a moment, trying to decide on a suitable name for a Samurai. "How about Takeda?"

"Alright, well... the three of you are travellng through dangerous uncontrolled territory, in between Iwagakure and Sunagakure. You are carrying a vital message directly from the Hokage to the Kazekage. You stopped to rest for the night, but you were ambushed by two squads of Iwagakure Shinobi!" Choji says dramatically.

You blink. That's kind of sudden, you just figured out a name. You look around, but Ino seems to be admiring her figurine, while Shikamaru is simply staring at the board.

"Takeda, you're the fastest, what do you do?"

"O-oh, uh..." You stumble, trying to think of an answer.

"Nice one! You're getting the hang of this Katsuo!" Choji cheers you on, and you feel more encouraged already.

Ino takes a look at your figurine. "So, he's the honorable type, then?" With a large grin, she turns to Choji. "My ninja thinks his samurai is cute."

You feel your cheeks turn slightly red, while Shikamaru rolls his eyes. Choji shrugs, "That's fine, I guess. You roll the dice, biting your lip nervously as it rolls across the table. Choji peers at it, befure letting out a cheer. "75!"

"Unsheathing his sword, Takeda slashes at the nearest Iwagakure shinobi. His katana easily slashes through his opponent, and the sheer force of his chakra slices through the air, cutting into the chest of another shinobi behind him." Choji narrates, excitedly, standing up and showcasing the slashing motions in the air. You feel a bit proud of yourself as Choji knocks two of the little wooden pieces off the board, indicating the enemies you've defeated.

As he sits back down again, Choji turns towards Ino. "Your turn, Mineko."

Ino taps her chin as she looks at the board. "Well, if the handsome samurai is already fighting, I guess there's no way to talk our way out of this. I want to use my specialty genjutsu on one of the opponents, making him fall madly in love with me and fight for me!" She smirks proudly, and Choji nods.

"Sure, roll!"

She rolls the die, and grins as she reads it. "81! That's high enough, right?"

Choji nods, "The Iwagakure ninja, upon seeing Mineko's beautiful form, is instantly smitten, and pulls out a kunai, charging at his teammates!"

Ino smirks, "And, I want to tease the samurai. I'll call over to him - 'Is my lack of honor pathetic, samurai?' while showing off my chest!"

Choji scratches the back of his head, "Uh, sure."

Trying not to blush too much, you scratch the back of your head. "Um, 'You have the incomporable beauty and passion of the wild hinageshi flower, blooming in the rapturous spring.'" Most of that you stole from those books your mom was always reading. "Takeda says." You awkwardly add onto the end.

Ino's smile grows even wider, and she's about to reply, until Shikamaru speaks up. "My turn, yeah?"

Choji nods, "Sure! Go ahead, Yukemura!"

Shikamaru rests his chin on his hands, "Man, it sure was a drag waiting so long for my turn. I'll need to start upping speed." He says nonchalantly as he looks at the board.

"This game is set during the First Shinobi War, right?" He asks, to which Choji nods. "Uh, yeah."

Shikamaru smirks slightly. "Perfect. I'll use my Lightning Style jutsu to zap one of them. Iwagakure still wore armor that was highly conductive to electricty until after the First War, and I'm pretty sure they're all stood more than close enough for my attack to hit all of them."

Choji's eyes go wide, "Wh-whoa. That's a first level Jutsu! You're not supposed to take out a whole squad with that!"

Shikamaru shrugs, "The rules don't disallow it. Why did you think I seleted Lightning Nature specifically?"

Choji looks crestfallen. "I've only prepared for this battle... I guess we're done for the night. Now, who wants dinner?" As soon as his mind turns to food, he's grinning widely once again.

"Ugh, Choji, can't you ever think of anything except for food? You should try going on a diet some time." Ino chuckles, and Choji glares back at her. "I like to eat! Besides, what has dieting ever got you? Sasuke still hasn't asked you on that date yet."

The two shoot daggers at one another, as Shikamaru calmly goes about packing up the board and pieces, ignoring his teammates' bickering.

You, however, haven't eaten since the morning. You probably should go get some dinner.

You stand, "I should probably go actually. This was fun, thanks for letting me join you."

"Of course!" Choji says, "You should come by next week, we're doing this again!"

You nod, making sure to remember that for the future. You had a decent bit of fun, and the three of them seem alright. For the first time in your life, you're actually going out of your way to make friends. First your teammates, then Hinata, now Ino, Shikamaru, and Choji. You let out a yawn as you walk out of the library, out onto the streets of your village. Being social is exhausting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9HadQ2kTT0

The walk from the library to your home is one you've done many times before, and it always instills in you a kind of peace and safety. Konoha may not be the strongest Shinobi Village anymore, but from within, the walls seem completely impenetrable. The idea that the peace and tranquility that was your daily life might ever be shattered seems impossibly far away.

Soon, you step back into your home. You stop, taking off your sandals, and shout. "I'm home!" You follow the delicious smell to the kitchen, where your mom is cooking. When you enter the room, she turns to you, with a wide grin on her face.

"So, how was your first day as a real Shinobi? Tell me all about it!" She says, enthusiastically.

You look back on your day, "It was certainly interesting." Is just about the only way you can think to summarize it. "My squad is... unique."

Your mother, who's gone back to preparing dinner, "Ooh, what are they like? Any cute girls?" She calls, teasingly.

You shake your head, "Not at all. There's Jun, he's nice, but he's also one of the most naive people I've ever met. He's already fallen head over heels for Mariko, who's loud, obnoxious and arrogant. They're both powerful though," You pause, "More powerful than me, in some ways. Our Sensei, Obito is a kinda strange guy too, he's a jounin though, so I suppose he knows best."

You sit at the table, "The mission was pretty boring, but at the end it was pretty cool. Obito said we weren't ready for C-Rank missions, but these Chunin showed up, and started causing trouble. We totally beat them up! Obito Sensei was really impressed, hopefully."

"Really, a squad a Chunin by yourself? Did you get hurt?" Your mom turns, worried, but you sheepishly hold up your hand. "Well, they were admittedly pretty drunk..."

Just as your mom finishes dinner, and starts carrying it to the table, you hear the sound of someone coming in the front door. "I'm home!" You hear your father call.

"Oh, good! You were almost late for dinner again, honey." Your mother says, the tone in her voice showing that your father very narrowly avoided her wrath. He chuckles nervously.

Ruffling your hair, he smiles, "You look all grown up in that headband, kiddo. Next think you know, you'll be teaching me new techniques." He laughs, and you and your parents sit around the table to eat dinner.

Technically, you're 12.
As you eat, you look between your mother and father. "What was your time as genin like?"

Your dad scratches his chin, "It was tougher back then, I think." Your mom interjects, "You sound like an old man." He shakes his head, "It's true, though. Back then, they didn't give D-Rank Missions to Shinobi much. My first mission out of the Academy was as part of a large team to help protect a transportation of captured Shinobi from Yugakure. Nearly all of the team died on our way to complete the mission. It was war then, I suppose."

You blink, that sounds... intense. But in a way, you wish you didn't have to waste your time on stupid missions that have you spending your time gardening instead of doing something more useful. Of course, you understand what the D-Rank missions are for, but that doesn't make them anymore exciting.

Your mom nods, "It was tough back then. I'm glad they changed it though. I'd worry sick if I knew you were out there on those life threatening missions, Katsuo. You're way too young."

You shrug, "It'll happen sometime. I hope we get a C-Rank soon." Speaking of more advanced missions, you turn to your dad. "Oh! How was your mission today?"

He smiled, "It went smoothly. The road between Konohagakure and Sunagakure has been succesfully fortified, just in time for the Chunin Exams in a couple of months." He hesitates for a moment, clearly something else on his mind, but he brushes it away and turns to you with a smile.

"Well, kiddo, are you planning on competing in the Exams this year?"

You nod, "I was planning on it, but... we've got a long way to go until our team is ready. We all have some pretty glaring issues we need to combat if we ever want to be truly succesful as Shinobi."

Your father looks impressed. "I failed my first attempt at the exams, it's okay either way, but I'm sure you'll do great, so long as you keep working hard."

You nod, and your mother laughs. "It's okay Katsuo, you're already a much stronger ninja than your father was at that age."

You all laugh, and soon finish your dinners. It seems your sister's duties with ANBU are going to keep her there extra late, so you wish your parents good night and head up to your room to sleep.

When you awaken in the morning, you get up, and go through your morning routine, until you notice something strange. Your bedroom window, which you could almost swear had been closed the night before was now open, and a note had seemingly been left underneath it.

Reading the words, your hearts stops.

You rush out of your house, jumping out the open window onto the rooftop of your neighbor's house. You start running towards where your team always meets. As you do so, you run through a couple hand seals, producing a simple clone.

It's fairly basic, and won't fool any advanced Shinobi, but it's good enough. You slow down a bit, staying back so that the clone can go ahead, and take any hits that might end up fatal for you.

Soon, you see the training field, and as you approach, you can clearly make out two figures. You stop on the edge of the park, hopefully out of sight, so you can get a better look. You see Obito, your sensei, who seems to be having some sort of confrontation with another Jounin. The other Jounin had spiky hair, and most of his face covered in a creepy mask.

If Obito is in danger, just walking out into the open could get someone hurt. However, you don't want to misread the situation.

You decide to send your clone in ahead of you, to better assess the situation. So far, it doesn't seem like a fight's started, but you don't know the mysterious masked guy's intentions here, or even Obito's for that matter. Carefully, you send your clone forward, making sure to keep a close eye on your surroundings. Even if they recognize it's a clone, they might not know where you are, which is an inherent advantage.

As your clone dashes forwards, the masked Jounin looks towards you. He already saw your clone? It was only out of hiding for a few seconds before it was spotted. Luckily neither of them show signs of recognizing it's a clone. "Ah, looks like it's one of yours, Obito." The man says calmly.

https://youtu.be/vfMSO4lp518

Obito turns, noticing your clone. "Oh! Katsuo! You made it, good. I thought you'd be the first one here!" He grins.

You blink, he doesn't seem to be in that much trouble at all, actually. "Uh, Sensei, what was so urgent?" You speak through your clone.

Obito points to the masked Jounin, "This is Kakashi! He's been my rival since the Academy. This is the first year either of us are actually teaching a squad of Genin, so we're going to have a little competition!"

So this is Kakashi? That means you'll be competing with Sasuke, Hinata and Kiba. Kakashi waves at you, and you think he smiles underneath his mask? It's hard to tell. "Nice to meet you, Katsuo. I hope Obito hasn't completely ruined your training already, I wanted you on my squad, originally."

You bow your head, "It's an honor."

"Why did you want me on your squad?" You ask, looking up at the masked Jounin. You've heard stories of Kakashi of the One Thousand Birds, to be talking to him in front of you, and even moreso to hear he wanted you specifically on his team is a bizarre experience. "Furthermore," you turn towards Obito, "Why did you want me on your team?"

Kakashi shrugs, "Don't get too big of an ego, but, from your Academy Instructor's briefing on you, you seemed like a smart kid, and a hard worker. Someone willing to actually shut up and do the work, instead of shouting about their dreams. Plus, Iruka said you were quiet. I wanted a team that was nice and silent most of the time. My current one gives me a headache."

Obito nods, "Well, yeah. From what Iruka said, when you first came to the Academy, you were at the bottom of the class, but by graduation, you'd risen to fourth. It's impressive." Obito hesitates, "But more than that, I didn't want you to be turned into a killing machine, or a weapon."

You think for a few moments, what did Obito mean by that? "How did you settle on it?" You look between the two Jounin. "A competition." Kakashi said, quietly. "The first one of these Obito has ever won. He fought hard for you, Katsuo."

Obito glares at Kakashi, "That's not true! I've won one of these before!"

Before the two Jounin can bicker more, the next genin arrives, in the form of Sasuke, slowly approaching from the forest.

He stops as he sees you. "What's going on here, Sensei?" He looks up at Kakashi apprehensively.

Kakashi chuckles, "A competition, apparently. This is Obito, and a member of his team. You and Katsuo know each other, right?" He says. You're not sure if it's just you, but his voice somehow always sounds somewhat sarcastic.

Sasuke glares at you. "How ironic." He mutters as he steps closer.

"Hey, Sasuke." You wave.

"If this is a competition, mark this down, Kakashi Sensei." Sasuke says, glaring at you. "I vow to defeat you, Katsuo. I will prove to everyone undoubtedly, that I am the better shinobi. This is the first step to one day becoming the greatest Hokage of all time."

You grin, "That's the spirit, Sasuke." Then, you lean in close, so that Obito and Kakashi can't hear, "This is obviously important to them, good idea to play it up."

Sasuke gets a really strange expression on his face, but he doesn't respond in any way to you. Before you can ask him what's wrong, Kiba arrives. Soon after, the rest of the teams arrive, one by one, until eventually the entirety of Team 7 and Team 9 were gathered.

"Alright!" Obito says, looking between the six of you. "Technically, we were going to just have you guys battle it out, but training guidelines prohibit that until you've all taken the Chunin Exams. So, welcome to the first ever Konoha Interteam Ninja Competition!" He pauses, as if to wait for applause, but you all just look at one another in confusion.

Eventually, Hinata raises her hand. "Um, excuse me, but... what are we actually going to be doing during this competition?"

Kakashi steps forwards, holding up a scroll. "You'll be racing, sort of. We will be waiting at the highest peak on Hokage Rock. Whichever of you makes it to the top and meets us there with the scroll wins. Any questions?"

Kiba's hand shoots straight up, "What do we get if we win?" He asks, excited for the challenge.

Obito taps his chin, "I was thinking we'd just do it for the honor, but... Kakashi, what do you say whichever team wins gets that extra C-Rank mission the Hokage was talking about?"

Kakashi nods, "Sure, sounds fine to me."

Mariko's face lights up and she turns to you and Jun, "We have to win this one, guys! I don't want to be stuck gardening for another day!"

You shrug, but Jun nods, "I'll make sure we can do it, Mariko! You can count on me!" He says proudly. The poor guy's really into her.

You hold up your hand, thinking of a question. "How are you going to determine which team starts with the scroll?"

Kakashi tilts his head, "Oh, simple." He says, before tossing the scroll in the air. Just like that, Kakashi and Obito simultaneously disappear in clouds of smoke. Everyone stares at the scroll as it tumbles through the air, unsure whether or not to make the move for a few moments. Then, it truly dawns on everyone. The game is on.

You're lucky you developed that Auditory genjutsu. Both Endless Staircase and Endless Spiral would require you physically making eye contact with Kiba, which you'd have to give away your position to do, but with a simple Sound Seal attached to a kunai, at a low enough volume that only someone with the advanced senses of the Inuzuka Clan would be able to hear, you're able to effectively target Kiba and test out your new Aural Delusory Genjutsu.

You see Kiba turn, suddenly, striking out at nothing, only to be confused to find nothing there. "Wh-What's going on?!" He shouts, as his entire sense of sound is wrenched to the side. A ninja relies on their sense of hearing constantly, to see everything their eyes can't. To confuse that, especially with someone like Kiba, who relies so heavily on his other senses, you've temporarily disabled him, for at least as long as you can hold the genjutsu or until he adapts.

"Mariko!" Your clone shouts, "Use your Earth Style! Jun, get the scroll!" They both nod, and Mariko falls into a sturdy stance, "Earth Style: Mud River Jutsu!" Kiba and Hinata are both swept away, as the earth below them shifts to a muddy river. Sasuke manages to escape the jutsu, but in doing so is further away from the scroll when Jun leaps for it.

You take off through the trees towards Hokage Rock, holding the genjutsu for a little while longer as you do so. Meanwhile, Jun rushes in the same direction, with your clone and Mariko acting as defenders. Kiba is still effectively out of the fight while Sasuke charges after Jun, and Hinata, pulling herself out of the mud, starts to run after.

Sasuke catches up fast, you notice he's really trying pretty hard here, or maybe he's just that good. He catches up to your clone first, and you swear you almost see a smile as he rushes forwards, "Fire Style: Fire Ball Jutsu!" He shouts, before sending out a fireball that absolutely destroys your clone. You see him smirk for a few moments, until the smoke clears, and he sees nothing left behind. "A clone!" He looks around, searching the forest for any sign of you, while Jun and Mariko keep running ahead.

You don't want to get involved with a confrontation with Sasuke right now, so, doing your best to stay hidden and as quiet as possible, you leap to the next tree, heading to meet up with Mariko and Jun properly. As you rush ahead, you create more clones in the woods to serve as distractions. It should hopefully confuse the other team long enough for you to get a decent head start.

You meet up with Jun and Mariko, and they both look somewhat surprised to see you. "Where's Sasuke?" Mariko asks, you shrug. "I left him in the woods. That was a clone he attacked." Jun blinks. "For how long?" You shake your head, "Since this morning. I think we should have a decent headstart, I still have Kiba in a genjutsu, and I think Sasuke and Hinata are still in the forest." Jun nods, gripping tightly onto the small scroll.

As you two exit the forest, you look out over Konoha. Hokage Rock is on the furthest end of town from you, you need to cross over the entirety of Konoha, which means Team 7 will get plenty chances to catch up with you, even with your temporary advantage. Jun and Mariko look to you, "Any plan, Katsuo?"

Stay in the town and run distraction with genjutsu and clones.
The Bell test told us that we're the slowest person on the team. Jun is fit and earth jutsu might help Mariko climb up a bigass mountain.
>>
>>2957201
>Just run in a straight line towards Hokage Rock.
As any Blood Bowl player can tell you, ALWAYS cage your ball carrier.
>>
>>2957201
How big's the scroll? If it's big enough to conceal, I say we pass it to Mariko since she should have an easier time climbing the rock, and we all run in a straight line pretending we're still covering for Jun.
>>
>>2957201
>>2957211
Definitely this. We need to make it hell to get through the town while they keep mobile.
>>
>>2957211

Seconding this, not sure if Jun and Mariko have access to clones the same way we do but if so they should pop some as well and try to confuse the pursuit, we're best suited to debilitating the other team
>>
>>2957201
>Send a clone with the others and stay as a distraction. Marikos earth style and Jun should be cake getting there first if we can stall the other team a bit.
>>
>>2957144
The fastest way would be to either get shadow clone, being an available jutsu that is known for being a leaf village technique, or infusing whatever element we end up with to it. I'm personally for shadow clones since it's the multi shadow clone that's forbidden but if we get something like lightning or fire we could make them explode when they pop which would be really handy.
>>
>>2957211
Supporting, also suggest setting up what raps we can around the town where they're likely to run through. Kiba is the type to just run in a straight line but sasuke might risk the extra time going a detour to avoid traps if he's confident enough he can catch up.

You nod, "Yeah. You two, head for Hokage Rock. I'll run distraction." Mariko nods and turns to Jun. "Looks like it'll just be you and me from here. You ready?" She says, with a smile. Jun nods, with a bright red tint to his cheeks. The two dash off, over the rooftops towards Hokage Rock.

While you wait, you quickly produce several basic clones. You don't need to stop them, you're fairly sure you wouldn't be able to take them in a fight anyways, but all you need to do is confuse them long enough that Mariko and Jun can get to Hokage Rock. Then, you start laying several traps in places you think they might come in handy throughout Konoha.

Suddenly, you feel the genjutsu you had on Kiba break. Someone must have helped snap him out of it somehow. Not long after, Kiba and Hinata emerge from the forest, landing on the Front Gate. Hinata must have helped him out of the genjutsu. It must be her special dojutsu, you've heard stories about it, in the past, but the Uchiha and Hyuuga clans try to keep their special abilities secret.

Kiba snarls at you, "Your tricks won't work, Katsuo. I can smell the real you!" The small puppy in his hoodie barks angrily at you. It's pretty cute.

You turn and start running, completely off in another direction, towards where you placed most of the traps. Kiba's faster than you, but if you can just stay ahead of him long enough for him to get caught up in the traps, you're sure you'll have him. Unfortunately, it doesn't work out like that.

https://youtu.be/CpnAp-GiUUA

"Man-Beast: Fang Over Fang!" Kiba shouts from behind you, and soon he's attacking you from two places at once, both moving at insanely fast speeds. You manage to barely dodge out of the way of one attack, but you're caught by the other Kiba, this one more feral and brutal in it's attacks. The sheer force behind the blow knocks you back far, and by the time you realize where you are, you're laying on the ground, with Kiba holding you down.

Kiba grins down at you. "I told you your tricks wouldn't get me. Ain't that right, Akamaru?" The other Kiba transforms back into the puppy, who barks at you.

You grin up at Kiba, "Maybe you won't fall for my clones, but you're here wasting your time with me, while Sasuke is about to run off and surpass you. Are you really the winner here?" His cocky attitude falters. "Wait- No!" He says, standing up suddenly, and rushing off to reclaim the scroll from Sasuke. You stand up and brush yourself off. Hinata must have gone after Jun and Mariko originally, because now you're left alone. You've spent about a half of your chakra throughout the battle so far, so you're glad you didn't need anymore to get out of Kiba's grasp. You're also thankful Kiba wants to beat Sasuke more than he wants to win this competition.

You head off towards Hokage Rock, looking to meet up with the rest of your team. As you approach the base of Hokage Rock, you see your team, not too far ahead of you. Jun is running at the front with the scroll, while Mariko desperately tries to use her Earth Style to keep Sasuke away, in a futile event, as Sasuke easily avoids and dodges past most of the attacks.

https://youtu.be/YKCaqDZFJ7o

Sasuke rushes forwards, jumping over Mariko's attack, and nailing her with a fast kick to the jaw seemingly out of nowhere. Mariko is sent flying, which causes Jun to stop, "Mariko!" He shouts, which gives Sasuke another opening.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"

A massive, billowing wrecking ball of flame crashes towards Jun. The Ninja Monk jumps out of the way in time, only for Sasuke to quickly jump towards Jun, grabbing the scroll from him and taking off towards the top of Hokage Rock.

"It won't be that easy, you bastard!" You hear a call, as Kiba starts charging after Sasuke. Uchiha only looks back for a second. "I'm your teammate, you moron!" He shouts, but Kiba is still after him.

You rush over towards where Jun is crouched next to Mariko. You have to hope Kiba will keep Sasuke distracted long enough for you to get Mariko and Jun back on your feet. In a genuine physical matchup, there's no way you can take on Sasuke.

https://youtu.be/AQQ6QBmRAFA

"Are you two alright?" You say, as you hop over towards your teammates. Jun is breathing heavily, and it seems like he landed badly after dodging Sasuke's attack, Mariko looks like she clearly expended quite a lot of her chakra defending against Sasuke. Mariko, seeing you arrive, tries to force herself up. "L-let's go! We have to get the scroll!" Jun stands up. "Mariko, you've used up too much chakra, you need to rest."

Mariko pouts, but you nod. "It'll be dangerous for you to do anymore."

You look up towards where the confrontation between Sasuke and Kiba has escalated into a brawl. "We need to go!" You tell Jun, now is your chance to capitalize! Jun turns towards Mariko, "Just stay here. We'll be back soon." By the time he's turned around and ready to go, a new arrival is blocking your path.

"I-I'm sorry, Katsuo. I cannot let you past." Hinata says, her normally shy look almost replaced by a sort of determination? You're not sure if she's activated her Byakugan or not, but she's definitely in a fighting stance, and she's blocking your path to Hokage Rock.

Jun looks at you, and you nod. "Jun, this is Hinata Hyuga, the heiress of the Hyuga family. Watch out for her Byakugan, it's a legendary Dojutsu only the Hyuga bloodline has." You give Jun the basics on Hinata, while you try to figure out a plan.

You look at her, and think about trying to put her under a genjutsu, but you're fairly certain her Dojutsu will have an issue with that. You know both Kiba and Sasuke are faster than you, but not necessarily faster than Jun, so you need to be the one keeping Hinata here. Problem is, that's a little bit tougher for you if you can't use your genjutsu.

You look at Jun, and make a few gestures, trying to get across your plan, you hope he gets it. Without much more time, you both start rushing towards Hinata, each on a different side of her, both of you just out of reach. In a split second, she turns to charge towards Jun, during which you change directions quicly, using your turning momentum as a kick to deliver a powerful blow to Hinata's torso.

You're surprised you're able to knock her over, but it's enough for Jun to rush forwards. You feel a bit bad, but Hinata forces herself up, and looks at you, determination in her eyes. "I'm sorry if I hurt you, Katsuo... I didn't want to have to do this..." She says, "Byakugan!" The veins around her eyes bulge up, and her eyes are even wider than before.

She steps into a fighting stance, and you freeze for a moment. If you let up for even a second, she'll likely run after Jun, but there's no way you can take her on in a straight fight, can you?

You charge at Hinata, trying to hit her with a punch, but she effortlessly blocks your attack, and smashes her knee into your jaw as a counter. You stumble back, only to try to hit her with a spinning heel kick, which she catches, and uses her hold on your foot to catch you off balance, bringing you crashing down onto your back.

A quick strike to the side of your knee from Hinata, and flashing pain shoots throughout your right leg, and then suddenly you can't feel it at all.

You try to stumble to your feet, but find your right leg completely unresponsive, and you collapse once again. Hinata starts to step away from you, seeing you're incapacitated, until a voice stops her.

"Hey!" Mariko shouts, forcing herself up onto her feet. "Don't you dare walk away from me! I've been wanting to fight you for a long time. You're the heiress of the Hyuga Clan, huh? Well then, let me show you why the Hyuga swore to serve the Senju, years ago!"

Hinata turns around, "You do not have much chakra... please don't try to fight." She says quietly, and Mariko scoffs.

"Fat chance! There's no way I'm giving up that C-Rank mission! We're gonna win that challenge, we're gonna complete a C-Rank mission, and then I'll be one step closer towards becoming Hokage!" She shouts, and if it wasn't so damn stupid, you'd be impressed with her determination.

Probably not best course of action, but fuck it. Mariko's pushing herself despite the odds. We can do no other. Her byakugan is sight based, right? Try and see if we can hit her with an auditory genjutsu instead. Barring that, try to trip her up somehow. Kunai, shuriken, those fucking wires, anything we got.

You lunge at Hinata, trying to grab at her and hold her so that Mariko could go back-up Jun, but Hinata turns at the last moment, as if she saw you, and grabs your arm, using your own momentum to toss you over her shoulder and slam you down onto the ground, knocking the wind out of you.

"Katsuo!" Mariko screams, before crouching down. "Earth Style: Flying Stones Jutsu!" She shouts, pounding her fists down onto the ground and sending several rocks shooting at Hinata.

Hinata tries to dodge out of the way, but you reach out, grabbing her foot, so the stones hurtling towards her hit their target. You're still effectively incapacitated, but at least Hinata's down. You turn towards Mariko, who cheers and starts hopping up and down. "I did it! I did it!" She cries, until she notices her nose is bleeding. "Katsuo, I don't feel so..." She collapses into unconsciousness. You try to force yourself to your feet, but your leg is still disabled from Hinata's technique.

Mariko completely burned through almost all of her chakra, you need to make sure you get help, even if you can't move. Suddenly, Obito appear near you, looking at where Hinata and Mariko are unconscious, and you're immobilized. "Mariko used all her chakra!" Obito nods, "I'll take you guys to the hospital."

https://youtu.be/bJXw7rMQJuM

"Sorry Sensei, but no thanks. Take Mariko and Hinata, get them help, but even without a leg, I can still be of some use to the time. There's no way I'm giving in so easily. Wasn't it you who said those who abandon their friends are worse than scum? I'm not gonna abandon Jun now. We'll fight to prove we deserve that C-Rank Mission, Mariko already gave it her all, and I'm sure Jun is too, so it'd be absolutely pathetic for me to throw the towel in now."

You try to stand up, and are able to hobble for a few steps before you collapse again.

Obito stands nearby, before nodding. "Good luck, Katsuo."

He picks up Hinata and Mariko's unconscious bodies, as you start making your way towards Hokage Rock, alternating between crawling, stumbling, and forcing yourself to get to the mountain. As you reach the base of the mountain, you look up, and start to attempt to scale the mountain.

You take a shaky step towards the mountain, and then another, then you start trying to focus your chakra in your arms and left leg. You certainly can't walk up the wall, but perhaps you can crawl your way up Hokage Rock. It seems insane to think about, but there's no way you're going to allow Jun, Sasuke and Kiba to complete this without you.

So, you get to climbing, and despite the intense burning in your limbs, you keep going, you keep pushing your body to it's limit. It's hard to maintain the chakra to climb the mountain, but you catch yourself each time you fall.

Finally, you reach the top of the mountain. You can see, not too far, the summit, where Kakashi is still standing, on your other side, you see Jun battling Sasuke, with Kiba knocked out nearby. You're in between the scroll and the finish line, but you're also almost out of chakra, very exhausted, and one of your legs is disabled.

You try to combine the Optic Delusory and Aural Delusory techniques to create a complete illusion and allow you to sneak up and grab the scroll without being seen. However, as you try to lock eyes with Sasuke to complete the Jutsu, you find you just can't get him. You try to get closer, but as you struggle to focus on your target, Sasuke manages to knock Jun out with a strike to the jaw. Seeing you, he charges forwards, and though you bring your fists up to block the attack, he rushes forward, smashing you with his knee. He rushes over to Kakashi, and holds up the scroll. You try to grab at him, stop him, do absolutely anything, but all you can do is watch as he walks over and hands the scroll over to Kakashi.

"I did it! That C-Rank mission is mine!" He shouts, as Kakashi nods. "The game is over. Team 7 won, although that was much more competitive than either of us thought it would get. I don't give out compliments very often," Kakashi says, as he goes to check up on you, and helps you up to your feet, "But you all fought hard for this, and you all impressed us." He helps you up, and turns to Sasuke.

https://youtu.be/wknP5Mxmuzw

"Sasuke, get Kiba and Jun to the hospital, will you?" He nods, and goes to collect the two of them, before dashing off. Kakashi, propping you up with his shoulder, looks at you, "You climbed a mountain for this test, that's fairly impressive."

We really need to shore up our melee abilities and get some more offensive jutsu. We're pretty useless in a straight up fight.

>>
>>2958041
Yeah definitely. I think some points in Taijutsu would really round us out. At least to hold off who ever we fight until we can get them in a genjutsu. Maybe throw in a couple of utility ninjutsu. I'm thinking a couple of earth style like walls and swimming through it, Shadow clone, and maybe one offensive in our chakra nature.
>>
>>2958041
I'm thinking a slight push in tai skill, more higher level genjutsu, and a couple ninjutsu, maybe one attack and one utility jutsu. Still need to figure out our nature first though. Pushing for learning the shadow clone is also a good idea, it would give us a lot more options and Obito should be able to teach us. We might not have won the mission but I think that'll just make the MC determined to be a much stronger ninja by the time a C- rank mission does come up.

Hey OP, I like the quest so far, but can you try to keep power levels relatively low? I don't want this turning into Dragonball Z the way shippuden did. I like to think that the hokage fight in the original run of the series was a good ceiling for what a ninja is capable of doing.
