Ravnica, City of Bills. Session 0.

The city of Ravnica, a never ending melting pot of cultures, ideas and conflicts. Plans are forged in the heat of clashing guilds, tested in battles of both wits and muscle. From the spires of the highest towers and chapels to the gutters of the undercity, from the current of the captured oceans that rush through pipes the size of houses to the remains of nature that fight a vicious fight to remain untouched. A sprawling city, never ending and always awake. This is Ravnica, your home. And you are once again late with your bills.

Soft rain is hitting the windows to your small chamber, an office that you once paid good mones for, believing the words of the estate agent that the view over the stonespider plaza was absolutely worth it and in fact this was one of the best corners in the whole tenth. You should have known better of course, but his smile was so sincere. You are still not sure if he really was a Orzhov or just a Dimir in disguise. Groaning you shift behind the office desk and sort your papers, the blood of the city. As usual you are short in zibs, meaning you have to look for work again. As is expected by a private detective. Your eyes wander towards the door that locks your office from the outside, a symbol drawn on the milky glass. It is your guild, something that defines you in ways you are incapable of even describing. But, which guild is it ?

Part 1
>Cult of Rakdos

Ah yes, the Cult of Rakdos, the thrill-killers, a loose alliance of thief, murderers, clowns and murderclowns all under the caring hand of Lord Rakdos himself, the biggest and baddest Demon on all of Ravnica. Known for the carnival (with murders), murders and poetry reading (no murders but many wish there were), slave work (murder optional) and all the task that proper citizens will not dirty their hands with. And ever since you set up your home here also the first and only private detective on the stonespider plaza. Ever since the blood of new recruits was running dry (both figuratively and literally) the call has been uttered to expand the guild into other business. You always knew that this guild was not really for you, but ever since you were born into the cult you had no real chance to voice your concerns. The neighbors at first made a large round around your door with the demon symbol but it soon became obvious that having a Rakdos member next door that did not immediately stab you was a rather sweet deal. And you got free tickets to the Carnival to spread around.

>What is your name ?

>What is your race ?
Human (Boring but practical, with a tendency to just survive about everywhere)
Devil (Born from the deepest pits of hell with a crispy smell of sulfur wherever you go)
Goblin (A slave in all other guilds, a...well....smaller slave in the Rakdos. Still, fire resistant)
Zombie (As if the dead have an excuse to stop showing up to the parties)

>What is your dark secret ?
As much as you try to deny it, as much as you clutch to culture and the light, the demon calls you. When the sun sets you are often in the darkest alley, begging for a thief to try and cut your purse. Just so you have a reason to beat him into a bloody smear.

The demon has marked you as one of his own. The scar on your shoulder is a reminder of his burning touch and he might have a special place for you in his plans. You do not know it yet, and that both thrills and terrifies you.

>Devil, duh

You are Duh, the Devil, a spawn of Lord Rakdos himself. His blood is running through your veins and you harness his power, a fiery shine follows you wherever you go. Sitting behind your paper covered desk you check the room again, the soft rain a background music to your life. A single rusty dagger has been slammed inside, holding a menu for a Rakdos owned catering service on the table. It is inscribed with a demon seal, calling an imp to garb the order and deliver the food. The walls are filled with paper clippings from the “Ravnican times” and the “Guildspotter”, the fresh newspapers still on a chair near the door where your partner left them. So far you had no time reading them. Your office does not contain much, a desk for the daily work, a small bedroom for you and of course the kitchen where you often meet with friends, partners and informants. The gurgling noise of water reveals that your partner is already here, having walked past you while you were lost in thought. You set up a smile and can feel how the sulfur and bone material that form your head crack as the unnatural movement disturbs them. A sweet pain rushes through your face and you grin a bit more.

A large mirror in the corner of the room blinks as you stand up and shows you your entire body. You once placed it there to get a look as the back of those that enter, checking them for hidden weapons. Now it just shows you in your whole form. From the deep black skull like head on your shoulders, the red and black suit that hugs your form and spikes to the black shoes that accentuate your hooves, strengthened with steel caps.

Part 3

Self hurting tendencies and a weekend murder party keep your in check and balance out your daily life quite good. If you can get paid for removing certain elements from society because they are part of your contract...even better. For now though you need to find a new job, your money is running dry and the Orzhov have this alarming tendency to find new ways to get their money. Not even murdering their collectors helps, they just come straight back.

You leave the office behind for now, ignoring the decoration and your partner in the kitchen. They will surely find a way to keep themselves amused for a while. Wearing your leather jacket you step out into the rain, a few drops evaporating on your head as you make your way over the large stonespider plaza. The name comes from the age old insects that live here, old Simic experiments to improve the speed of construction before the Golgari offered better food. Now the buildings are back at normal speed and the swarm got new pack animals, just a few of the ways the city regulates itself. A small swarm of blue frogs hop through a puddle and jump into a jet of warm air shooting up from an underground Izzet building, floating on to the roof of the bakery nearby. A few people are huddled inside, not all interested in the warm bread and small cakes but more in temporary shelter from the rain. The words “Crustys Crusts” is written over the entrance, a small Golgari symbol marks a seller that gets his supplies from the underground wheat fields. You have taken a liking to the fungus-cookies but they are always sold out so easily. Slowly you walk through the streets and follow the markings of a single candle that have been burned into the stone. The Rakdos tavern where you get most of your information is nearby, the entrance hidden just behind the candle maker. After quite a march you arrive at the club. Boros and Azorios make damn sure that every larger Rakdos club remains far away from any public plaza. Zhe burly zombie in front of it has a rather rapidly slapped together bomb in his holed out chest cavity. Nobody dares to break the waiting line here. With a nod you approach and just step past him, you are known here.
>>
>>2956852
The inside of the “Candleknife” is just like you left it last time. A small pit in the middle features a fight of two cultists against a sewage alligator, with a screaming crowd around it. It looks like they are winning, which means fresh animal fat for the candlemaker. The bar is covered in drunken people, humans, goblins, vedalken and more, all trying to forget their sorrows. A human woman in typical red and black clothes and a with a white face painting tries to get a few more coins from them, offering a few more private shows. The barkeeper, a human male that is missing half of his face and replaced it with a black mask, is serving drinks. In the corner of the room is a card table, filled with the smoke of cigars and other things, shadows dance in the rising fumes.

You still need to stat Duh.

>What now ?
Meanwhile in the kitchen of the small investigative agency you make a coffee. An Izzet coffe maker is right in front of you and the copper things refuses to work properly. Again.

Part 4

Ah yes, the House Dimir, the unseen and unheard. Home of the spies and traders of secrets. Ever since the failure of the first guildpact you have slowly built up a new facade, couriers and librarians. For now you are however a bit occupied with the coffee maker in your kitchen, a sturdy Izzet work that looks like it could withstand even an explosion in their forge. You ponder if you should steal the instructions from whoever built this thing and then leek all his embarrassing secrets as punishment for this torment but once you found the right button to activate it this need quickly retreats. The smell of freshly ground beans from the small bag with the Golgari logo and hot water from the machine. As much as these two guilds hate each other, sometimes they work together to create something wonderful. You reach for the cup and start drinking.

Spirit (You died in service of the Dimir and were brought back to spill your secrets one last time. Then you simply decided to stay around)
Vampire (Melancholic, brooding and with a sense of taste for the blood. Also topic of so many awful romance novels)

What is your secret ?
Amnesia has ruined your mind, either through your death, your age or by a different Dimir agent. It is a bit difficult to recall things from a few years ago, but at least you still know what you forgot. Or did you also forgot things that you forgot about ? Where are your memories ? Do you even want to know ?

>What now ?

Meanwhile: Duh in the bar.

You make your way to the barkeeper and smile as good as you can, a clear warning to anyone that might try to keep secrets from you here. As a devil you make an imposing figure but here in Ravnica everyone is dangerous in many different ways. At least you are much more fire resistant than the others. The barkeeper looks at you and his remaining eye recognizes the sharp teeth in front of him. With a nod he slips you a glass of Gutterbrand, the stuff that could melt a human throat, and a small bowl of peanuts.

Or maybe just one ?” He grins, a strange view since only one half of his face follows. “I got a request for a someone to take a look at one of our nightclubs from a different ring. Florence, investigators bureau kitchen

You faintly remember the day you died, something went wrong back then. You can see blood, feathers, a woman that looked strangely familiar and yet so far away. Was that you ? A few memories of flying and order fill your mind, rushing through it like sand through a colander. Before you can even clearly recall it they are gone. All that remains is the house now. You got here for a simple reason, to work with Duh, the Rakdos devil. You need the money and you need the secrets. With both hands, only visible and firm due to the bandages, you grab the coffee mug and take a deep sniff. The last few living pieces of mana, green for the nature and black for the Golgari farm method enter your spectral body, the aroma waking your up. There is no real way this can work to be honest, but you once overheard a group of Selesnya talk about the need of ghosts. The only thing that makes your body now is your mind, so if your mind says that you should wake up from coffee...You place the frozen cup on the counter and leave the room, allowing it to slowly defrost and drip away.

The main office is just like you left it, but Duh is gone. His spectral trail [Follow: Blue 5] leads outside, a faint note of sulfur and restraint over a bottomless pit of hatred. Actually rather nice for a devil. A single rusty dagger has been slammed inside the desk, holding a menu for a Rakdos owned catering service on the table. It is inscribed with a demon seal, calling an imp to grab the order and deliver the food. The walls are filled with paper clippings from the “Ravnican times” and the “Guildspotter”, the fresh newspapers still on a chair where you left them. So far you had no time reading them. The office does not contain much, a desk for the daily work, a small bedroom for Duh and that's it. You have no need for sleep anymore. Or did you ever ? Did the sun once nourish you ? No, what a stupid idea.

The Ravnican citizens are already up and trade in coin and whisper, fabric and steel. You can watch them from up here, the daily workers [Pickpocket: Black 5], the traders behind their stands [Pickpocket: Black 10] and the Orzhov cleric that takes the confessions in a small chapel nearby [Eavesdrop: Blue 5]

You grab a second glass of Gutterbrand and sip it in one go. This time you have to hold back a cough as the first charge had burned away the protective plates in your throat but you hold it without grimacing. The barkeep is impressed. “Two in one go ? Yeah, you did not loose contact to the cult my friend. Listen, I got one errand that needs running. A Golgari coffee farmer is afraid of Simic product flooding the market. Wants you to maybe take a look at their hydroculture and, you know, burn it to the ground a bit ?” A new half sided grin. “Can't miss it, should be just a few stops away if you take the centipede. Once it has gone up in flames you can collect payment here”.

You are about to stand up when you hear loud cheers and screams from the poker table. Seems like someone made quite a fortune and an enemy free of charge as well. The table is filled with the chips of amber and copper, paper rolls with secrets and metal tubes full of alchemist ingredients. An Izzet mage is happily grabbing most of them while his enemy, a gruul mine worker is accusing him of cheating.

Florence:

You walk out of the office, confident in the security of the Rakdos seal on the door. No one will rob this office, not even in the most desperate cutthroats would dare it. The trail leads down the stairs and out into the streets, where it mixes with the hundreds of new spirits that travel along. Humans, Vedalken, Goblins, Centaurs, Elves and so much more are walking past you under the small overhanging roofs that protect them from the rain. A large green spider [G 5] carrying a wooden crate vanishes into a crack between two buildings and makes its way downwards, leaving only a bit of her net behind. Nobody pays attention to you, an aura of invisibility shrouds you from their gazes and even if they look closer all they see is a good reason to quickly walk along. You can see the confusion in their eyes as they spot you, the memory of your passing gone as soon as you are out of sight again. They leave their memories behind as softly glowing runes that fall from their ears but you do not even bother with picking them up. You are after the big ones, the whales among the fishes. Without a clear case to work with you let the crowd carry you around, soon ending up at the doorstep of a small Orzhov church. Stained glass windows with the black sun symbol mark way for the flock and even in this rainy weather the trade is going on. Inside the believers pray for many things, the white mane of order and the black mana of greed flow into the gutters.

In a small hidden room a cleric is listening to those that arrive with heavy heart, taking their worries, sins and offerings. All for a charitable course. Stacks of coins, crates of wine, large rolls of satin and paintings change their owner. You ignore their talking about petty crimes, undeserved mistreatment and one or two betrayed spouses, instead watching the cleric with interest. Most of the time he just offers prayers, but for those that pay the right price he reaches for the small golden flask under his robes. A single drop of this, a mixture of over a dozen expensive extracts, removes even the slightest feeling of guilt about your doings. Not the memory, no. Just the guilt. As you listen to one widow, clothed in green and white robes, while she stacks gold in the mans hands about her orphanage you know that she will get her drop.
>>
>>2958125
He reached for it as soon as she came in. From her blabbering you draw the conclusion that a few of the children in her orphanage have gone missing, something she desperately tries to hide from the public. She feels terribly guilty about not being able to buy more security for the children, something find a bit strange seeing how much she hands over to the pale man across her. A Selesnya widow [W 3] that lost some her kids ? How gruesome, how tragic, how so very poetic....

The trail of your partner is leading through the district, along the butcher shops of the nearby underground port, the fishbone street that is home to the sailors, then a three street crossings that leads into the Azorius district, guarded by two stoic men in blue white robes. Deeper it goes, down through tunnels and under bridges until you stand at the entrance of the “Candleknive” the Rakdos tavern. Not deep enough to be really threatening, yet far away from the nearest Boros barracks to give the upper citizens a thrill. The thick red and black mana mixture is bubbling from the door like a deep wound. As you look down you spot a few white runes [U 5] running along the street, vanishing behind a corner, just after a broken old cheese shop.

>What now ?

Duh:

Well, looks like there is trouble brewing behind you. You ignore the barkeeper for now and turn around to the discussion, a white haired Izzet mage is discussing card game rules with a Gruul mineworker Minotaur. Maybe discussion is a bit of an overstatement, the man is just shooing the larger beast away as he examines the quality of the Chundersilver [U 3] and Amber crystals he just won, unaware of the chair being raised as a weapon. The other players have either quickly retreated or sat down on a different table, taking bets for the new fight. Large muscles that could break steel or someone that is capable of blowing the entire district sky high ? Either way, it will end poorly for the bar and that would be a shame, they just cleaned the blood from last night away.

You stand up and must suppress a cheer at the sight. Finally, something to get the cold finger warm. Nothing ignites your heart like a good old fistfight. Although, maybe you could just try to talk to them, solving the entire things without the need of violence ? [W 5] Or you just start breaking bones until the commotion stops. [R 5]. Still, who do you support now, the game is long over and the cards spread around the room. [U 5]. Maybe if you let them start a fight you could throw out both and grab the entire table....[B 5]

Duh:

Ah yes, Chandersilver, named for its inherent magical properties to change its density inverse to the temperature and therefore squirt out in mass once a new ore is hit. Almost like mercury it is poisonous, making the search for it dangerous. Nearly no one has any use for it, except either very creative poison mixers or the Izzet. It is rumored that it is an ingredient in their hidden formula for the creation if Mizzium, their fire resistant metal. Due to the rather bad reputation the League has acquired from the last few months the other guilds have decided to cut down their access to the raw materials, igniting a fierce struggle for control of the mines. Electrically charged troops against the Gruul miners, all for a few liters of this stuff. A different rumor tells that this is just a plot by their Parun, the last Dragon Niv Mizzet to confuse the other guilds into hunting for the wrong ingredients. Whatever the reason, the price has gone though the roof and trade has been banned by the Azorius. If it comes clear the this stuff has been in the club the Boros might have a reason to storm it. Enemy or not, they still have to honor the Guildpact. A baseless raid is against the laws that hold up the Sovereignty of the Guilds.

A few of the other patrons are taking notice now as the screaming gets louder. One of the woman with the white face paint is leading her prey into one of the smaller rooms in the back, away from the fight. Other either leave or start betting as well. Quotas are 3:1 for the Minotaur, since the mage still has not looked up. The silvery stuff is floating in an invisible forcefield held up by his copper glove while he mutters differential equations to himself.

Duh, devil private eye:

You could place a bat on the mage, just call for one and either have it land on his shoulder or throw it in his face. Bats rule the midnight air, hanging from windows and tunnel entrances, listening to the city. They are full of secrets for you to pluck if you dare to anger them. And in fact it would be easier because, to your dismay, you have already been placed on the betting list as a new combatant. Your Quota is 5:1, maybe the long time away from the Cult has lead to rumors of your softness. It is frowned upon for the fighters to bet on the fight themselves, bad memories of manipulated cage matches have left an impression. A true and uncalled for bar fight is not to be ruined by betting manipulation. The table the book-maker is sitting at looks rather breakable from your position, a long plank could easily be used as a impromptu weapon to give your request a bit more power and a cunning wood supported joint lock lever might even increase your quota. [B 5]

Behind you the first sounds of breaking wood are audible as the minotaur smashes the chair over the mages head, the sturdy wood splintering on a electric field that fills the air with the smell of ozone and wood splinters. The barkeeper is hiding the good bottles and the amber crystals fall to the floor, happily bouncing over the stone. You collect all of this from the sounds and screams of the audience, not having turned around while the fighters shower you in charred wood.

You stand in front of the Rakdos club, the demon skull is painted above the door, its horns elongated to vines that grab it tight. The sounds of a fight seem to escape from the entrance, a few guest hastily leaving, indicating that this is not the usual entertainment. There is a movement in the corner of a dark alleyway, hidden people seem to watch in interest. As you look down you spot the white runes [U 5] running along the street, now pulsating a bit. A single chariot, drawn by a black and brown spotted horse, is rumbling along the street. The drawing on the side of it make advertisements for “Ashen and Omgren, Rat catcher and fur coats”. Duh, the devil bouncer

[T 5 passed with 8] Well, that settles it. People throwing chairs around are a daily trouble around here but magic self protection lightning is a step to far. And to be quite honest you do not really wish to beat up a Gruul guy, splendid customers for the establishment. They could try to break less of the cults buildings though. Anyway, the bones are waiting. The actual fight only takes a few moments, the white haired guy in his twenties seems to have forgotten to reset his lightnings and only obliterates fast moving things that get close. You help him face first out of the door but not before a few twitching doges reveal that this guy has definitely a few to many time gazing experiences. He manages to duck under your swings before you even know that you want to set them. Once you lay a finger on him however both the copper elbow support and his radial bone splinter. The table is still standings as you come back, the mage running away with curses and screams of pain. Cheaters never prosper. While the Minotaur picks up his winnings a few spare cards fall from his pocket. You should have really seen that coming. Anyway, he grins and offers you a share of the winnings as well as a drink. The money is of less interest to him than the fireball staff he managed to gamble. Wood, copper, gold and a mizzium tip, that things screams Izzet and dangerous. A few buildings will burn tonight, a good opportunity to assemble a wrecking company. The chandersilver is back in its original packaging, a simple metal tube without markings. Slowly the guests come back from their hiding places and order more beer, a clown arrives on the stage and starts telling jokes. A bag of knives is nearby to throw if you don't like them, just a few zibs a throw.

>What do you want from the winnings ? Pick one
Chandersilver: Poison, metal, explosive and potential mizzium ingredient. Also forbidden but that has not bothered the Izzet before, has it ?
Amber crystals: Old amber findings from the long forgotten forests of Ravnica, even before the city was built. There are a few leaves and strange creatures trapped inside, making them valuable or the Simic.
The zib: The chips of various metals can be changed for zibs, the money of Ravnica. Since you seem to always run out, maybe this is a good idea
The Fireballstaff [W5]: He seems reluctant to give it up but the staff is clearly perfect for a for resistant being like you.

Florence, Dimir spirit rune reader

[U 5 passed with 8]. Those runes are new, not a leyline as you at first thought but recently added by a mage of clearly some talent. The font is eerily close to the Azorius rune keys and so you start to walk along and translate.

The horse drawn wagon disappears behind the next corner and you follow, but as you round the corner it is already far away, driving over the bridge that spans Zonot 3, the ocean sinkhole of the Simic. An elaborate guildgate has been installed, only partially covered in graffiti and posters. Standard anti guild speech, ads and a few rather drastic caricatures of the Simic members. The multiple grammar errors hint at Gruul.

The trail under your spectral feet wraps around the entire district with the Rakdos club in the center and halfway through you recognize its intent. Some Azorius guildmage has prepared a lock-down of the entire thing, just one word and this will create a force field to prevent anyone leaving. It is fresh and does not seem to be designed for long term storage, telling you a lot about the intent. The Azorius have planned a raid on the Rakdos club, possibly this very day. Just as you think about it a group of them is approaching, supported by Boros legionaries and a few hired guildless mercenaries. You could just try to disturb the circle with your spirit leather stripes to ruin the project [U 5]. Or, if you feel like facing a challenge, steal the code word right out of the head mages head [B 5]. That will leave them unable to activate it. Out of the corner of your eye, even though they are long gone, you spot an Izzet mage thrown out of the doors. His arm looks broken.

Part 10

Duh, the charming devil

With a fresh pint of something normally served in much smaller glasses you sit down and grab the zibs. Money is money and every guild runs on it, no matter what they might say. Even Gruul and Selesnya are dependent on the Orzhov, just as they are dependent on the others. Ravnica is a gigantic scale. A few zibs and zinos* richer you lean back and start a talk about the Gruul mining operations. The Minotaur with the markings of the Borborygmos clan, the biggest Gruul member, since they are less than a real guild and more like a loose affiliation. He indulges you into an interesting tale of the old Rustbrew district that had been demolished a few years ago, the new buildings still pending. They made their homes there for now, mining and farming as the nature returns. In a few months they are supposed to be driven out but you get the feeling that they prepare to keep their new home. If there are more smuglers like this they could amass a lot of fortune, buying weapons and equipment. This will be interesting for sure.

Soon the drinks are gone and you turn back to the bar where the good bottles are back. You still need to pick your new work contract. A scout bursts in to wan about Legion soldiers that are coming and the bar is turned a bit more presentable, the fighting pit is cleared, the contraband reoved, daggers hidden or sharpened, contracty rolled up and the jokes of the clown turn tamer.

>What now ?

*100 zibs are one zino. You got 230 zibs, or twono thirty, as the street says. They say a lot if stupid things. Your monthly rent is 10 zinos. Or 1000 zibs. It is easier to talk in zibs.

Florence, memory thief:

[B 5 passed with 7]. A step past him, an invisible hand that slides past his head and a thin string of memories that follow. You scan them, search for the word you need and cut it out, stitching the edges together to make it vanish without a trace. The Atorius lawmage is shocked as he steps forward to recite the official order for the lockdown and is suddenly silenced. The Boros form a shield-wall, expecting an Assassin on the rooftops that shot their mage but he has simply forgotten the word to activate it. Groaning and with both hands on his hand he tries to recall, failing every time. You just slide back into the shadows, clutching the word in your hands. "Detain". Simple, effective, gone.

The Legion starts to spread through the district but without the field to lock it down every criminal is gone by the time they arrive. A fortune teller at the street corner is laughing and tries to offer her services to prevent such embarrassing mistakes the next time, for just a small payment of of 300 zibs...The Legion ignores her while an Azorius woman tries to out shriek her with regulations concerning prophecy and divination. The beggar begins to aggressively read the cards, seeing a loveless marriage and what not before she is detained.

Duh, devil cleanup crew:

Well, if the Boros are on the way things are bout to get interesting, speaking as a collector of fine lethal combat of course. Still, do you really want to risk a fight with the whole team ? There is bloody battle for Rakdos and there is stupid evil mass suicide and you did not get where you are by doing the second. The club is already being prepared, suspicious bottles cleaned away, the fight pit is gone and replaced by a small stage where a clown juggle with knives. Only a few things remain that could get you in trouble, mainly the Cundersilver, which the Minotaur is still celebrating over. If you throw it away he might be angry at you but the only way you see to let him keep it would be a fight with the whole Boros team send your way. [B/W 5 to throw the Cundersilver away. If the task is “/” you can choose the color, if it is “+” you must pass two rolls, one for each color]. Fighting the crew might take even longer and is risky if you want to stay safe of the legions wrath. [R+G 5]. Or you completely throw away your Rakdos honor and try to mediate between the groups, selling out the Minotaur. Who knows, might even get a reward.

You also still need to grab one a contract for work from the barkeep.

Florence:

Well, the soldiers are walking along the street, breaking pots and bones as they do. As usual they have the elegance of a drunken boxer and are about as subtle as an earthquake. From their questioning it is pretty clear the they search for Cundersilver, the strange metal that is rumored to be a part of Mizzium. Not even the Dimir have managed to find out of it true, the Izzet have a way to twist the truth until it starts breaking.

If you activate the lockdown from here is will trap them in the quarters for now, but you and your Boss as well. With a bit of trickery you could try to simply steal their orders straight from their heads [B+U 5]. Or you just warn Duh and get away as fast as possible. That would work as well.

Part 12

Neither of the things that will soon happen here are your problem and so you just casually talk about the contract while the Boros try to open the door, having called a cyclops for help as a battering ram. The barkeeper is a bit occupied with the chaos and slides the small leather tube into your hands. “You will find all information in there, now get ready for those anglefuc.. hey come back !” Florence is casually flying trough a window that mere seconds ago has been blasted open with an explosive, doges the fireball the Minotaur has tickled out of his new staff and slides to your side, her leather bands revealing her spirit body to those that look carefully. Just as the doorhinges give in and allow the door to fall inwards the the two of you are merrily walking away, through the backdoor, past the guildless mercenaries that try their best to look away as a demon greets them. Wishing them a good day you walk past the mana barrier on the ground, the Azoruis lawmage so occupied with trying to remember what he forgotten that he ignores you too. Just as the Chandersilver and fire magic meet and blow the roof of the club the two of you vanish in a side street and are gone. A small chariot brings you back to the stonespider plaza, the smoke cloud rising in the background soon shrinking away until it is hidden behind a large tower.

Back in your study you notice that someone has finally brought you the daily letters, advertisements, bills and of course new contracts for you to look at and maybe take. Slowly you open the leather tube and reveal the work.

New contract: The coffee crisis

A Golgari farmer from the undercity is growing worried that his coffee beans “ Matkanas Deepgrown Coffee Celebration” a rather strong and slightly bitter taste, could be driven off the market by a new Simic creation, being developed in Zonot 3. He wants you to look around a bit for the research and either find blackmail material or just destroy the whole thing. The information density is weak, even for your taste so you will have to do some research yourself first. Barging into a Zonot without a plan will only turn you into food for the strange creations that run around there. Also it is a Zonot, a sinkhole reaching down into the underground oceans of Ravnica. That has to be big.

Well, now that the two of you are back maybe it is time for the real work. You tear the old newspaper clippings from the wall and make room for the new investigation. Florence has plucked a few secrets from lips and you make a note of it. A selesnya widow has lost children from her orphanage. Might be connected. Might not be, who knows in this city. The newspapers are still on the chair where you left them, right next to the letters.

Part 13

With a nod you send Florence off to do her things, looking through the memories of city people for clues that might be helpful soon enough. Her agreement through nodding is so faint that most people would not even register it. But you are not “most people” and as you look up from the plans she is already gone. The key to the locked door is still on your pocket, the window still closed. Groaning you spread the meager information across the pin board and prepare for a stakeout. Knowing who is who will surely prove valuable if you need targets for later investigations.

The Zonod has been covered with a large, sprawling buildings which looks on part like seaweed has crawled up from the ocean and is now stopping parts from falling down. The intergartion of living wood is by far below the titanic Vitu-Ghazi, the tree home of the Selesnya Conclave but still, not bad. A touch fewer spikes than your old home but still nice. Of course you are not here for the architecture but for the people, the traders, biomages and animal handlers that move through the gate on a nonstop basis.

For a few hours, that you spend in a small bakery on tea and cake, the most people that come here are either Simic or guildless. Only a few other guilds move here, mostly either Izzet or Selesnya, both you had a run in with today already. While you spy through the windows of the second level shop the clouds break up and sunlight shines through them again. The Simic tower shifts a bit to collect more.

A young Simic elf and an elderly Izzet Vedalken, covered by two copper, red and blue guards, are slowly walking along a balcony in front of the building. On the other side of it a Selesnya centaur woman in bark armor and a Simic human with green hair slowly walk towards a hedge maze. His hair would prefer to stay in the sunlight however and stretches away from his scalp. They seem to whisper about something. You are not suspicious at all.

You abandon your place at the cafe and leave the cake you ordered behind to eat it later. It is a simple vanilla spongecake with a few sprinkles on it. You went for the red and black one, together with a cup of coffee. Golgari brand, rich and with a hint of darkness. A few eyes follow you as you leave the shop through the main entrance, whispering and pointing fingers at the Devil in the fine suit. You better damn hope they do, that suit did cost you a fortune once. Fine silk, harvested from the caterpillars that live on Vitu-Ghazi themselves. The conclavemages are asking every single one for consent before harvesting their threads, ensuring high quality and even higher prices. But for now you are not here to talk about suits, you are on a job.

[U5 passed with 9]. The very first couple you evasdrop already have news for you. The Vedalken and the elf are arguing about the water supply to the Zonot, to be precise the fresh water. Saltwater is there more than enough, but the coffee plants need fresh water to grow and it has to be clean to prevent toxins from being absorbed. Since the citywide water supply is firmly in the hands of the dragon the Simic are working on a deal for a new water purification plant, right here in the district. You get a few interesting bits of trivia, regarding both the location of the new facility and the greenhouse the coffee is grown. The water plant goes into the undercity and the greenhouse is on top of one of the smaller towers around here. The Izzet idea for a flying water purifier is quickly discussed bit one word about “Potential catastrophic thermoliquid gravity based accidents” destroy the goodwill of the biomancers. The green hairs simic and the Selesnya centaur vanish in the hedge maze, no way you will go in there. Still, you wonder what they might talk about...

With a groan you sit down again and plunge the small silvery fork into the defenseless heart of the cake. The scenery outside has not changed a lot, mostly more traders, guildless and guards. No wait, there is something new. A small group of Golgari, based on the fungi and them being undead, is arguing with Simic guards. The elves and humans, or at least you assume that they were once, shimmer in the sunlight as their grown armor in blue and green is readied. Some have tentacles and large crab claws instead of hands. On the other side of the large staircase leading up to the Zonot a trader is overlooking a delivery of cages into a side entrance to the Zonot. The people are slowly getting suspicious of you. You can hear them whisper.

[G 5 failed with 2]
The people are slowly getting suspicious of you, maybe a Devil is not that often seen around here. Whatever the reason you better start to act like you belong. With an empty plate in hand you walk over to the counter and try to decide which of the pieces you would like to sample next. Fall is around so the selection of pumpkin spiced things is through the roof. Tinstreet cookies, Azorius milk cake, saproling shaped cinnamon buns and so much more....wait a minute, they have gingerbread men ! With a smile and a dozen of them you swagger back to your place at the window and pick up the first. A Orzhov woman with hair as white as her dress is lifting her nose at you so you first create a small dress out of whipper cream for your bread man, model it after the woman and bite the head clean off. The second one is drowned in your coffee, the third dissected. You play a bit with the cherry jam to simulate intestines that fling everywhere and a giggle escapes your lungs. The Orzhov woman is huffing and turns around, parents pull their amazed kids away. That did not work as intended. The crowd is turning around to you a bit more now, things are getting heated up. Maybe a Wojek is already on the way.

Once you look out again the Simic guards have moved the fight into a back alley and the door for the animal delivery is closed again. The moment has passed sadly. Now there is a completely different scene outside. Large crowd of beggars is surrounding an Orzhov giveaway of golden coins (only spendable in Orzhov owned businesses). Many are around to speak and beg, if you join that could be a good way to get into contact with the local poor. On the other side of the street a small Wojek guard station is accepting donations to keep the district safe. Maybe they know a bit...

>>

Part 16

Well, that is a rather interesting spot you find yourself in here so you grab the newspaper you got and read through it, paying attention to the sport news. There is no way there will be anything in here that has something to do with the case at all. And it does not indeed.

You skip a few smaller reports about rising prices of silver, falling prices of copper and a breakthrough in candle making. The sport section is still talking about the game from the beginning of the week, the Viashino raiders have squarely beaten the Goblin gamers in guildball. You spot the Poke-a-tog results with an after action report of the tog, a news snippet about bribery in street racing. You know that that was wrong, no way Maraka would loose control over her centipede that easily. Cost you a small fortune that day...

The daily comic is absolutely delightful however, dealing with the adventures of a small homunculus that is totally lost in the city. Today he is stumbling through a large crowd even though he hates people. You eagerly await his adventures in the next one. There are a few more ads, a new shaving cream for minotaurs, coupons for Viashino maggots spices and a new strange religion calling for believers. The ad is so small you have nearly overlooked it. Maybe a new Selesnya group or a Orzhov pyramid scheme ? No, strangely neither. You have never heard of this “Emrakul” before, seems to be a rather small and local goddess. Probably best to ignore those guys, what can handful of religious nutters do to you ?

On the outside the night has arrived and the people are slowly packing their things. A few Simic mages are walking around arguing about their experiments but you look more at the pieces of paper that stick from their pockets. Looks like that might be something interesting. The suspicion is lowly dropping but still not really as low as you would like. Most customers have gone now and the new ones only see a devil reading the news. Nothing to worry about.

Duh, devil with a newspaper

[B 5 passed with 10]

You fold the paper and pack it away again. A few eyes follow you as you pay and make your way out of the cafe, aiming for the simic scientists that are busy chatting about their theories and ideas how to create a solution to the bloodfly swarms without robbing the spikefrogs of their main source of food. While they are throwing theories around they are completely unaware of your hand quickly reaching out and grabbing the piece of paper which is revealed to be a map of the complex. The entire Zonot 3 is there, drawn by the original designers. Every hallway and every door, all the watch posts and guards. Neat. The coffee lab is where you expected it, at the top of a large tower, a few big tubes reach up there from a water purifier in the undercity. Looks like the lab get the water first, certifiably toxin free. Highly interesting indeed, if you use this then you could easily find a way through the entire Zonot 3 and get out without them even realizing that you were in.

You pocket the map and turn around before the curfew hits the district. The unopened letters are still in your pocket, you will read them at home or tomorrow. Back in the office you add the new information to the large wall and draw the first connections. The way you see it there are three ways in and then out again.

Entrance:
>Through the Izzet water pipes
>Through the tower
>From above

Exit:
>Through the waste water pipes
>Through the tower
>Jump down or find something that flies

>What now ?

Florence:

You have no idea how you got here but for some reason you stand in front of New Prahv, the Azorius guildhall. There is no place on Ravnica more boring and safe at the same time, the three triangle shaped tower that surround the place are home to the three brands of Azorius law, Sova, Jelenn, Lyev. A few lawmages walk around, the guards all make their patrol on time which makes sneaking in trivial. Their thoughts are so clear that listening in on them is easy, even if the higher-ups are protected by numerous blocks. As long as you stick to the low ones there is next to no danger.

Duh, devil plan maker

Yes, the route through the pipes seems like it could be a good way of doing things, easy in and then once you are inside the chaos of the fire will make your exit easy. You mark the way on the map for Florence to see and tape a few notes to it. There are just a few problems, three to be exact. The first one will be dealt with immediately, the problem of conquest between the Golgari and the Izzet in the undercity. The water purifier is in Golgari territory but they not touch it of course. Hatred for a guild only goes so far, not even the Selesnya could survive without the Izzet water systems. So you will have to make sure to get someone into the team that is capable of accessing that thing and protects your back in the undercity.

The second problem is the destruction of the coffee plants. If that is a hydroculture then everything will be wet and full of, well, water. You need to find a way to burn the stuff quickly or else the entire thing fails.

Last but not least there is the matter of leaving the tower again. Even if the fire is enough of a distraction you should look into a few more safety nets that could make things easier.

For now, though you leave the office again and get ready to meet someone. But who ? The Golgari are nearly everywhere in the city, like the insects they have shaped their guild after.

Florence

[B 5 passed with 8].

You look at all the different mages around here at once, like a sea of thoughts. No way you can spot single thoughts like this, but the large emotions that boil through are like ripples in the flat surface. You follow the waves to their center, a heated argument between a few scribes about the latest lawsuits. The Izzet are furious about the newest blockades on their chemicals and prepare retaliation, banning and ignoring some of their public projects. The sheer amount of paper a single late steamtrain can cause....But there is more, tensions are rising between the Izzet and the Gruul. Ever since the Leage has started to dig for more metals themselves the wild clans had a few monetary problems. Looks like they are planning retaliation in turn and this time, not in front of the judges. Gruul warriors have been wrecking the city infrastructure in order to teach the Izzet a lesson. The sheer amount of paper this fills could bludgeon a rhino to death.

Duh, devil on a trip to the rot farm

You grab your coat and step outside of the office, checking the wall one last time before leaving for the undercity. The first carriage you hail just drives past you, nearly splashing you with a bit of water. The second one however accepts and soon you are off to a canal. The horse steps into the water, opens its gills and swims while the simic ferryman ask you your destination. To the undercity please. Only a few minutes later you pay the man with the tentacle arms and step out of the wooden box to the underground pier. Just like at the surface the trade is going on undisturbed, crates and barrels are loaded on ships and into titanic elevators, a rundown and no longer functional Izzet teleport platform is dominating the place. The golden seal of the Firemind, their parun Niv-Mizzet has long been ripped away. This was once guild territory but now the guildless have taken a hold of it. Nobody dares to take it again, you suppose because it makes a great buffer zone between the rot farmers and the League mages. You ignore that for now, walking past the crates of food and manure, export and import all around. Instead you steer for one of the Golgari insect shuttles and soon you find yourself on the back of a centipede, watching the undercity race past you. The titanic bridge you travel along is used as a sort of highway to spread the material around, like a well run ant colony. Goat, your contact man has his small farm a bit away at one of the waterfalls that drop down from the surface here. Well known for both his work as a manure and nutrient producer and as a cleaner.

Below you the Golgari farms, tended by zombies race past until the centipede suddenly moves to the side and crawls down one of the ramps, aiming for a larger building down there. The Recycle plant is using a waterfall to its full potential, titanic water wheels drive the machines on the inside. Goats workers are busy preparing the discarded corpses that are dropped here, animating the still acceptable ones and grinding the others into a fine paste. The smell of old blood, rot and decay is incredible, which might be the reason goat is wearing fungus nose plugs. Barrels full of liquified humans are transported past you to be spread on the field for the fungi to eat. A large piled of bones is slowly thrown into a grinder, bonemeal for plants and paint. He nods as you enter, maybe waiting for you to reveal the body you brought with you today. Once nothing comes he raises a brow. “Are things so bad that you come to visit me without work now ?”

The Jelenn archives are a collection of every single case file, complaint and executive order ever given. And the problem is not to steal something, it is to find the stuff you care about. Going in here without a plan, a search team and a few weeks of rations is like scanning a waterfall for a single drop. Even the entrance hall, where guests are welcomed is a maze of books, scrolls and those that try to make order. The further you dwell the more chaotic it gets. Sometimes it is impossible to discern if there is a system behind it or of they just stacked books until the stack toppled. It only takes a few moments to become totally lost. [Find your way : 0]. Goat is concerned about your eagerness to infiltrate an Izzet steam vent just to travel through the pipes into a Simic bio lab. He can count the number of ways this could fail on two hands and when he runs out he grabs one he had laying around here somewhere to continue. “Well, Duh, to be quite honest with you that is a kind of difficult matter around here. We don't really like the Izzet but we need the water and the heat. Or we could just bin the entire growth down here. I am just a low farmer and not really equipped to handle that but if you help me I could do something for you. A few of my workers have gone missing in the last few days and they only sometimes show up again. Lacking any memories of what happened to them. As you surely know there are all kind of dangerous things lurking around down here so maybe a overeager brainfly is snacking on them while they sleep. If you manage to find what is going on and put a stop to it I would be delighted. Most of my workers live in the gutters around here, small communities for the undead. Be careful around there, they are slow but don't really like living beings”. Goat gives you a smile. “Come on Duh, you know that I can not just order the entire guild around without sou doing something to prove your worth to us. You in ? Or do you want to try your luck on the Gorgons ?”

The books along the shelves are ordered after the case files and last name of the filing judge. If you cross reference those with the year they have been written you could....no, you can find your way to the higher parts of the library, a hall that is as large as a small harbor. Crates of scrolls and barrels of ink are rolled along by servants, a group of miners is busy building a new shaft into a mountain of old horse parking violations. Only a few meters away a golem is sorting old argumentation transcripts into a shelve, ignoring you for now. Golems are dangerous, even for a Dimir. They have the annoying habit to not think even the slightest bit and are immune to poison and sleeping powder. Still, if you could come past it you might not have to take a detour through the wilder parts of the room, where the restraining orders are stacked. [Find your way is 1]

Goat seems to be a bit at loss of words as you ask him. “Well, you see, the thing is...” he wrings his hands and stumbles around a bit. “The workers are zombies. And I, well, I feel a bit uneasy round them. Please don’t tell that I said that. I gladly employ them but if it comes to talking to them they are rather weird. We generally ignore each other. All that I can tell you is that they have missed a lot of their scheduled times in the last few weeks and some have just stopped showing up here. I told the Gorgons about it but all that came from it were a dozen more zombies and the problems continue. There is a tomb colony not far away from here where they live so you could check there. I will gladly lend you my bug for that”.

The bug Goat spoke about is his little darling, a sparkling green centipede that is a bit faster than the normal black ones. As you enter the small stable next to the bone mill it looks up at you, large black eyes searching for food on you. Goat hands the thing a few spiced maggots and it happily devours them, chattering with mandibles and all feet. “Be nice to her, Daisy will bring you to the tomb colonies in no time”. He places a hand on your shoulder and you quickly check to see if it is his living one. It is. The street is free.

No, no chance. The colors of the books slide into each other, soon all you can see are variances of dark gray and light black. How anyone could find his way around here is a mystery to you, not even the Dimir guildhall is this mazelike. And given that it is a maze that says a lot. After a few minutes of searching for any clues you give up and retrace your steps, walking back to the clicking golem. It has now moved on to normal scrolls and still ignores you.

Duh:

You sit down on the green race centipede girl and reach for the reins to steer her. She is big, nearly 10 meters long and 2 meters in height. Goat is proud of his girl. “Yeah, she is a great worker here. Is able to lift an entire crate of corpses from the harbor on each segment. She will bring you to the tomb colony, so good luck”. He waves you goodbye as you speed off, the green incest is drumming her claws on the ground like a wave. She is fast, incredible fast. Like a race horse, just bigger and with more chitin. Withing moments the corpse grinder is vanishing in the distance. The centipede highway is a waving sea of chitin bodies, from the small personal ones to the titanic public transport ones. Daisy is finding her way, clicking and squeaking at the others to make way for her. Glowing fireflies form symbols and mark the way through the dark. There is a moment of even deeper darkness as you speed through a tunnel, before emerging on the other side. At the Golgari pyramid. The deep black stone pyramid, build by people long ago, maybe even before the Guildpact, has been re purposed as a meeting hall and royal hall for the Gorgons. You think that you can see of the fair ladies in a window and before you can look away she winks at you.

At the end of the three hour ride you arrive at the tomb colony, a nearly broken down city at the edge of a large cliff, showing nothing but the deepest black you have ever seen. Zombies walk around and look up as you arrive, steering Daisy into the stable at the edge of town. The tomb colonies are not that used to visitors so you only spot a single inn that might be good enough for you, the “Last stop”. How fitting. Other than that you also spot a small temple in the background, a few farm in the surrounding area and a single outfitter so that open wounds and free bones are worked into the clothes. Even the dead have a right to look good, don't they ? You have no idea if it is the constant darkness down here of the fact that it is nighttime now, but you feel tired. Giving the man that takes care of the centipedes a few coins as a tip you give Daisy into his hands and leave the stable. Everything looks fine around here, as far as tomb colonies go.

Duh:

Well, that sure is a lively bunch down here. Most of the Zombies are capable of holding a conversation with you with what feels like centuries, never changing their tone or expression. It is like speaking to a golem, but more intelligent and less odorless. Most of the people down here still carry the signs of their death, be it long jagged scars on their chests, a near decapitation or an entire upper body sewn onto the lower half. It does not take you long to get the rough details of the lifestyle here. Despite being dead they are still just humans, vedalken and elves, trying their best to get through “Life”. With no more need to eat or drink they instead spent their money on entertainment, mostly books and music. There is also a heavy class system here, with those Zombies that died from poison at the very top. They carry next to no signs of their death, making them the most beautiful of the bunch. Here in this city they even have their own zombies, those that die of trauma to the head. Without a complete brain, a zombie is doomed to a state of horrible stupidity and repetitive heavy labor. You try your best to ignore the scrambling remains that clean the street. Not even the Rakdos find humor in this. Live is meant to be lived, experienced and occasionally taken advantage of. But this ? This is just sad.

Most zombies that you speak to are pretty open about their bosses but the way they speak and argue makes it a tedious search. Hours go by until you find someone that can point you into the right direction and even then it takes a few more to actually find Goats workers. A small bar is your final stop, the “Spoken cup”. Inside you find a rather strange atmosphere. Zombies sit around tables each with a small wooden cup in their hands that is filled with small pieced of paper. Whenever they drink, be it because of a small card game or a bet, they pull one strip out and loudly shout out what the drink tastes like. “Cherry with a hint of lime. Burning in the throat that stays there for a while”. Goats workers are sitting around a small table in the back of the club, their Golgari signs are growing as fungus on their coats. You speak with them. A long one says that he can not recall ever missing a day of work until he came to Goat and had no memories of how he got there. A woman with a scar that splits her mouth says that she is missing an entire week. A vedalken with a missing hand is hypothesizing that it could be a reaction of open brain tissue with fungal spores and seems intent to visit a Simic lab until he is reminded that he is no longer allowed to go there. Then he sits down and falls silent.

It hurts in every part of your being but you have to admit it too yourself. You are totally lost. With no other choice you approach the woman at the reading desk and simply ask her about the book you search for.

[W 5 passed with 5]

The womans eyes go cloudy for a moment as she tries to see past the imaginary picture that your spirit body is projecting into her head. All she sees is a new Azorius lawmage that is asking her about casefiles. “Of course, follow this road down until you see the well. Then you turn towards the defender side and go from there”. You nod and walk away while she has already forgotten you again. Hopefully nobody from the Dimir saw that.

After a while you enter a new room, looking like someone has built it around a large fountain or something. White marble and blue gems are the typical colors of the Azorius but the water is pitch black. As you step closer you not that it is ink and....no wait. It is water with numerous small wriggling things inside. The look like small squids but are pitch black and form letters and numbers. A small inscription on the fountain reads “To all books still not written. May you find your words”.

The room is round and has four hallways that cross here. You came from one and now you have to choose a new one. Left, right or to the front ? Where does the defender sit again in the Azorius court ?

>Left, because then they are to the right of the judge, honored to uphold the laws

Duh:

Well, the woman might have something interesting to tell you about the week she was missing from work. Her face takes on a strange look, the first genuine expression you have ever seen on a zombies face. “I...can not recall much. I went to bed for the night, then I woke up again and one week had passed. I still remember a few parts of my dream. I was on a field, like the ones down here but at the surface. And there, I know this is strange but, there were no buildings. Nothing. It was like in an Selesnya garden but stretching to the horizon. And there was something on the horizon. Something big. And when I looked closer I woke up”. She shrugs and a few pieces of dried fungus fall to the ground as her revealed shoulder blades move. “That's all I remember”.

You nod and can feel how time is racing past you, you need sleep. Now. The “Last stop” seems like the perfect place for that so you rent a room there. Cheap and clean, the zombie owner can afford to clean his place pretty much all the time. Zombies need no sleep but they enjoy it nonetheless. Your room is just a bed with a few books on a desk, a washing bowl filled with clean water and a window to the outside. Daisy is being taken care for and the streets are dangerous during the night so you stay here for now.

In the middle of the night you wake up. It is just as dark outside as it was during the “day” but you feel that it is night on the surface. Something is moving outside. Something purple is shining through the window. A zombie is looking up at your window, his eyes glowing in the strange light.

>What now ?

Well, left it is. You know this from your listening to the judges sentencing the prisoners you brought and....wait what ?...No, that is..you were there and you...listened to them, yes that is what you did. Nothing else. Like a good Dimir spy. [Find your way +1 = 2]

Well, who is going to miss a book from this heap here. Grabbing a small one from a stack you dip it into the fountain water and the letters crawl over it, sliding into the pages. As you open the book they look at you, curious and waiting. The old letters have been eaten, a 6 is bitten off in the middle and a few full stops are laying on the ground like skulls after a war. You wave your fingers and the small black things follow. Interesting indeed.

You move out of the immediate field of view of this strange fellow down there and only occasionally peek through the curtains, hoping to spot him again. And indeed you do, he does not move at all, staring right at your window with dead and glowing eyes. A few shadows dance on the wall behind you and for a moment it seems that something titanic is crawling towards you but then you peek again and it was just a second zombie that has moved in the first ones way. His shadow has been projected. The new arrival has the same eyes as the first, both looking up to you. Soon they are joined by more, the inhabitants of the city flooding the street, illuminating it with their eyes. Heavy steps come closer, you can hear them through the closed door. Someone is moving up the stairs and only seconds later something heavy is crashing against the locked door. Call it a habit or paranoia but you very much enjoy sleeping with a locked door.

A groan comes from behind the door, revealing that it has to be one of the undead inhabitants of the city and not a wild animal that got into the house some way. A second crash, more force this time. You faintly recall a lesson in Necromancy you once took, where you were told that zombies are a lot stronger than living beings because their bodies are no longer trying to protect their muscles. It wears them out though so most smart ones try to avoid that. A third crash, the door is slowly being lifted from its hinges.

Outside the crowd has started to move towards the house you are in, a completely silent mob without ever torches nor pitchforks.

You stand in the middle of a dozen newspapers that have been printed long before you were born (at least you sincerely hope so) when you realize why no Dimir spy has ever before attempted to break in here. The sheer mass an information is so big that any important bit is drowned out by meaningless dribble. Just in this room, there are more ads for basic products than Guildmaster Lazav has forms, that you are sure off. There is no way you can ever filter any of that and once you are out you will pay every Rakdos and Gruul in the city to burn this library to the ground. Angrily you kick a book that probably deserved it.
