/qst/ - Quests

This quest takes place in the DC Universe with characteristics mainly pulled from the animated TV series and films.
You are Reno, AKA Black Rider Battery! After a tremendous journey from boy to super-powered fighter, you've started taking the first steps to becoming a established name in the world of metahumans! It is now 5 years in the future, where you've raised a tower in your name! The 54-story building not only houses many of your Tamaranean and Oni subordinates, but the underground metahuman fight club known as The Metabrawl! Recently, we've turned a simple volunteer beating into a chaotic journey through time and space, arriving at Earth 3! Now you're faced with allies and enemies who've had their roles reversed in this bizarre world!
-10/15 Minute voting period after each post, I will now specify how many votes are allowed per post.
-Some actions (typically combat choices against non-generic enemies and certain social situations) will require 3 D100 rolls, using the best of the 3 rolls for said action.
-Critical successes/failures are 100/1

You've never heard this many police sirens in your life, it's like a howling wind of chaos over Earth 3's Gotham.

Your entourage has arrived in the middle of a street swathed in flames, with panicking civilians running and looting as they try to escape the chaos.

“Bloody hell... What've your friends been up to?” Red Robin asks.

In the midst of shattering glass, roaring flames and screaming people, the rattling echo of automatic gunfire can be heard.

“I'm sure if we go that way we'll find out.” Blackfire remarks, keeping her head on a swivel as she surveys the area.

“We should rendezvous with Lain. There's still our hostage to worry about.” 02 speaks up, seemingly avoiding the mentioning of Helfire's name.

“What about the Syndicate? They should be out on the street giving your posse hell, right?” Arsenal asks, and Red Raven seems to agree.

“Don't forget the reason we came here. If we're going to establish a new world order, we have to destroy the old one first” She states.

“Uh, why don't we just go straight for their tower or whatever while they're busy fighting you guys? It'd be easier to just go in and incinerate whoever is inside, right?” Komand'r suggests, and her alternate self nods in agreement.

A: “No, I have my own plan to execute first. I'm going to get a hold of a police radio and get Vegas as far from the city as possible. If he's as dangerous as he sounds, then I don't want to risk any of you getting killed by him. I'll just need a way to lure him out...”

B: “Alright, I'll head with 02 and see if I can reign in whatever fighting force she's made. Everyone else should stick with their own plan, it'll be harder for them to stop us with our actions spread out.”

C: “Hey, deal's a deal. I'll take part in the street brawl with you twerps, everyone else can deal with the important stuff.”

D: “Well, I'm not one to disagree with my wife... You guys take care of your business, I'll take care of the ladies.”

“Alright, I'll head with 02 and see if I can reign in whatever fighting force she's made. Everyone else should stick with their own plan, it'll be harder for them to stop us with our actions spread out.”

“Yeah, uh, no. I'm coming with.” Komand'r announces, facing the Teen Tyrants including her twin.

“New plan; you guy undercover and act all buddy-buddy with the enemy. When our paths cross again, I'll give you the signal to start playing on our team.”

“Works for me. Just don't die out there.” Red Raven responds, flipping her hood up as she motions for the others to follow her.

Komand'r gives you a playful smirk, tracing a finger along your jaw as she walks by.

“You heard her. Keep me nice and close...”

You place a hand on your cheek, trying to capture her touch. What a woman...

Following 02's lead, you actually do keep close to Komand'r, striking up a conversation about something that's been bugging you since she arrived.

“You know, you never mentioned how you got here babe. How'd you do it?” You ask her.

“Oh, well you see... I took a break from threatening the Earth to try and get absolutely plastered on 3 bottles of Merlot, when out of nowhere a crazy science portal just splits my coffee table in two!” She starts to explain, her face becoming agitated just remembering what happened.

“And then of all the people to walk out of the damn people to walk out of it, your damn cheerleading squad shows up! Did they bring their king back? No, they brought back Lex Luthor! So I grabbed bald-headed bastard by his scrawny neck and-”

“Shh! Someone's coming.” 02 suddenly hushes, holding an arm out to you both.

Up ahead you see two approaching lights heading towards the three of you, glowing red and bobbing with every step they take. Listening in, you can make out two voices speaking with strange slang.

“Chicken Legs nasty. See Billy boss brains on the wall?”

“Licken Chegs don't shiv. She shoot.”

“Yehehehe, she real cool. She peg old leader.”

“... We call her Boss Chicken or Boss Legs?”

“What you Billy-bout? Boss is boss. She balls nasty, that's all.”

“... Licken Chegs ahead, two of em Don.”

Out of the shadows steps two bald twins in matching clothes, the only distinction between their illuminated visors and blue jackets are the print:

“My name is Rob” and “My name is Don.”

“Hey spud, these yours?” Rob asks, grinning at 02.

“Seasoned Cheg's kind of my nasty, Rob.” Don says, looking at your wife.

“Rob peg you can't handle two. Think you oughta share your bucket.”

“... The fuck are they saying?” Komand'r's potty mouth comes out, completely confused by the sight of these nimrods.

“I... I can't translate. Reno, do you understand this slang?” 02 asks, looking socially stunted.

“Of course he does! My man was in a gang when I first found him. Ohh, he looked like a snack in that biker outfit!” Komand'r chuckles, feeling more lively just reminiscing of her youth.

You gulp.

Okay, Reno... Show them how it was done in Jump City's hood.

A: “I Cheg. I'll Cheg you, him, all of us! Hell, I'll Cheg myself!”

B: “Step off, you low-rate buster. Get your five-dollar asses out of here before I make change.”

C: [Threaten them in Japanese, like The Oni would do.]

D: “You look at my wife one more time and I'm gonna force feed you two each others balls. This is your only warning.”

You feel yourself HEATING UP!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7aRmuHp9aY

They want to talk shit in a way you can't understand?! Fine! You can do that too!

“ORAAAAAAAA!!!!!!” You reach out and grab Rob by the face, his flesh audibly being creased by your vice grip as he's lifted off the ground.

It's a waterfall of insults and threats that they couldn't hope to translate. It doesn't matter if they understand the words or not, as long as they feel the raging heat behind them you can make them understand.

“H-HELP ROB! HE A SLICER-DICER! HE SAMURAI!” Don freaks out, kicking his legs while struggling to get out of your hold.

“HE NO SAMURAI! I PEG HE'S DEAD!” Rob shouts back, drawing a switch blade and attempting to stab it into your throat!

As soon as the tip is met with your flesh, it crumples like paper and folds into itself.

Rob's jaw drops. Don springs a leak in his trousers.

“He-He uh... We... He billy bossa... AAAHHHH!!!” Don starts to scream in terror, and right as you're about to start another foreign verbal assault, another voice calls out from the alley.

“STAND DOWN! STAND DOWN GODDAMMIT!”

You recognize the voice, but not the woman it belongs to...

From the shadows arrives Lain, carrying a military-grade assault rifle and chest harness. She's painted her face completely black, but her features are covered by the imprint of a skull in red paint.

“No...” You hear 02 softly gasp to herself. This... This seems like something she was trying to avoid.

“B-Boss Legs! I mean, Boss Chegs! I-I MEAN--”

Rob, who had been trying to address Lain properly, got a gun-butt to his face for the effort.

“The hell did I say about talking like that?! You aren't Mutants anymore, you're soldiers.” Lain scolds, reaching behind her and tossing Rob one of two rifles slung over her shoulder.

He groans, holding his bleeding nose as the rifle lands at his feet.

“And you... I'd prefer if you didn't kill our men.” She informs, putting an urging hand on your arm.

You stare at her for a moment before you finally drop Don, hearing him whimper slightly as he lands.

Lain stares you down for a moment, then she tosses Don the other rifle before turning her back to you.

“Come. I'm addressing the troops before Operation Broken Wing.”

“... Broken Wing?” You question, but you get no answer as the three of them walk away.

Komand'r just shrugs, following after them. Left behind is 02, however, and she seems... Distracted.

She's just blankly staring at the ground, as if she's trying to process something difficult.

A: Give her some space, you need to focus on the approaching battle.

B: Talk to her.

You start to walk over to 02, making sure everything's alright.

“Hey... Tutu? You okay?” You ask, but she doesn't need to speak to answer.

Tears start flooding her eyelids, and soon her body begins to tremble with sorrow.

“I... I gave everything... I did all I could... But she's...” Her words are choked out by sobs, and you can't help but feel alarmed by this sudden burst of emotion. When you first met her she was as robotic as she could be, but the more you were around her the more you began to see some of her humanity break through her cold surface.

“Hey!” You call out, carefully holding her by the shoulders.

“What's wrong? What do you mean you gave everything?”

“I... Don't want her to die!” She weeps, her face straining as she tries to stop her tears.

“I helped her all I could, but she's still going to do it! I... She was planning a suicide mission when I found her and I thought... I thought I could bury that hatred and fight for justice on her behalf! But... Her eyes are the same as that day!”

“God... 02...” You mutter. The situation is far from understandable, but feeling her sadness... It's enough.

“She's not going to stop fighting until she's dead... I kept telling her about living in a better world once I stopped all this, but she never believed me... I love her, and if I lose her...!!”

She wails, burrying her head into your chest. There's nothing you can do except hug her.

It's like her emotions never got this strong before. You wish you had been around her more to help her through it or... Shit, something.

She starts to hold onto you tightly, and you can't help but be reminded that this crying sister of yours was the same person who nearly suplexed you to death...

Sister...

“Nothing's going to happen to you or to her, Tutu.” You console her, your voice filled with determination.

It was too late in your universe, but you'd kill this entire world before it did your family harm.

You kept your arm around 02 as you lead her down the alley, it's the best you could do to comfort her.

On the way there, you met up with Komand'r, but no words were exchanged. It was simply a silent march to where Lain had directed them to.

You had eventually reached a open lot hidden among the maze of buildings, your only guide being the burning fire in the center of the darkness.

Upon arrival, you looked along the walls of the spacious courtyard and saw even more of the Mutants gang, all of them shoulder-to-shoulder as they tried to fit in. It really was a small army.

The fire they surrounded was fueled by gasoline and a corpse, but by this time you couldn't make out who the charred remains had belonged to. You just hoped they deserved it.

Lain stands silently over the fire for a moment, staring into the dancing flames as if she were in a trance.

There's not even a whisper to be heard among the crowd. The only one who was allowed to speak was Lain.

“You didn't want to be called a gang. You didn't want to be seen as a mob or a bunch of noisy kids. The pig I slaughtered declared that you were the law in Gotham now.”

She looks up, gazing into the eyes of her soldiers.

“... But that's all the law in Gotham is. A mob. A gang of rapists and killers hiding behind a badge and an owl's wing. Every man, woman and child in a godless city where even their protectors will do them harm. That is what Gotham's law is.”

She reaches into her coat, pulling out a police badge a bullet hole shot right through it.

“You are not Mutants, and they sure as hell aren't police. Tonight, you are all soldiers, and they are your enemy! Even with the commissioner dead, they will stop at nothing to torment the people living here! I've seen first hand what cruelty Owlman will allow... I've kept that pain, the horror... I kept it all in here.”

She puts a hand over her heart, raising her rifle.

“And now, I'm here to make it right with every bullet I can carry. Not just for myself, but for you and the entire world. I cannot promise we'll all live through this, but I can promise that we will be victorious no matter what, because in the end we chose to not to live as pathetic victims! If we die, we will die as warriors!”

That seemed to psyche the Mutants up, the walls of red glowing visors cheering and sounding out a battle cry of their own.

“Form up and move! Flankers, to your positions! Everyone else, with me! We're meeting the GCPD response team head on!” Lain orders, waving her arms as the gang members hustle to pick up their weapons and start heading out.

02 is trembling slightly. She didn't like what she saw, and she's a moment away from going to tears again.

“It's gonna be alright.” You try to reassure her, glaring at Lain as she orders everyone around.

You turn to your wife, who was totally zoned out and somehow manage to completely ignore the speech.

“Blackfire, keep Lain distracted. We need her out of the fight and while you're keeping her busy 02 and I will help these clowns fight their war.”

Komand'r quirks an eyebrow and shrugs.

“Mkay. I don't know if she's the type to really do girl-talks though.”

“Do what you have to do. Hell, break her legs if you have to, just make sure she doesn't fight!” You emphasize, and your wife just hold out her hands to ward you off.

“Alright, alright! It's not like she can overpower me.” Komand'r reminds you, walking away with a huff.

“... I don't want her legs to be broken.” 02 meekly says.

“Yeah well, you also don't want her to die. Come on.” You urge her forward, and with a sigh she flushes the sadness out of her body, following right behind you.

Merging with the armed mob, you're taken to the main streets of Gotham. The streets are littered with broken glass, abandoned cars and flames. There's several looters snatching stolen goods from store windows and other places, but they're quick to turn tail and run at the sight of an army of Mutants.

“What do you think, Tutu? Should we really help these guys out or...?” You ask, trying to coordinate with her.

“I think we need to hurry and reach Vegas. I'm not sure if you realized, but Dr. Haiwee and Helfire weren't with Lain back there.” 02 responds, looking rather concerned about their absence.

“Eghh... Yeah, I'm starting to think we might've screwed up whatever they were planning to do with that sicko. You think we should turn back and look for them?”

“No, I think she's already on her way to make a deal with her son.” 02 answers swiftly, catching you off guard.

“What? Come on... She can't have that kind of attachment for him at this point. I know she seemed down when Lain was badmouthing the prick, but...” You try to reason, but the lack of change in 02's expression is starting to worry you as well.

A: “Look, let's just help these geeks out and go from there. The more of them we can keep alive, they bigger of a chance we have at winning this thing.”

B: “... Maybe we should go back, just to be safe.”

C: “Dammit. Let's go, we need to hurry over to the syndicate tower! I'm not taking any chances!”
D: “Wait, maybe I could try talking these guys into heading for the tower instead! It'll throw the police force off and having these numbers against a few Syndicate members will make this a cakewalk!

“Dammit. Let's go, we need to hurry over to the--”

Your words are cut short by a swarm of wailing sirens barreling towards the crowd, and you're still stuck in the middle.

“Reno, we might not have a choice anymore.” 02 obviously states, a hand already reaching towards her belt.

Suddenly you both are blinded by a spotlight over head, followed by the deafening rotor of a helicopter above you and the rest of the gang!

Next the screeching of tires can be heard ahead, as police cruisers and SWAT vans pull up in front of the armed mob, already establishing a barricade of Riot Shields and semiautomatic rifles.

“Alright you stupid bastards, listen up!” You can hear from the helicopter overhead, the rough voice coming from a megaphone.

“Put down your guns and get on your knees, and we promise to only arrest the the schmuck that clipped the commissioner. Give 'em up, and the rest of ya can go without having a bullet in your ass!”

The gang isn't budging at the threat, Lain's words still strong in their minds.

“Reno, your call.” 02 states, ready to transform at a moments notice.

A: “HENSHIN!”

B: “... I'll talk to them. Once they see what I can do, they won't want to fight.”

Screw it.

“HENSHIN!!”

“HENSHIN!! ANGELUS!” 02 shouts after you, and you both do a unified transformation.

The crowd of Mutants don't hesitate to disperse from the strange light that suddenly appeared among them, and even the police take defensive positions at seeing the transformations.

You and 02 stand side by side, staring down the police death squad.

“You've tarnished Justice long enough! ANGEL KICK!” 02 shouts up at the helicopter, launching herself with a jump powerful enough to lift several layers of dust with her.

She angles her kick upward, and like a missile she pierces the bottom of its hull!

In a spectacular display of justice, her kick splits the helicopter in two, creating a ball of fire as it explodes!

Bits in pieces of police uniform and flaming metal scrap rain down over you and the mutants, the helicopters half-melted propeller scraping down the side of a building and carving through the exterior windows.

“JESUS CHRIST! THEY GOT METAHUMANS!” The police sergeant across the street cries out, his side of the squadron ducking down as more flaming scrap shoots overhead.

“FUCK PROTOCOL! WASTE THEM!”

“Go ahead and try!” you shout back, focusing the energy in your body as you dig your claws into the ground.

You go into a somersault for a moment, but it starts to turn into a spinning loop as you rotate in place like a buzz-saw!

It goes faster and faster, kicking up chunks of asphalt as your electrically charged spinning dash builds up momentum!

“YEAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!” You shout, electricity firing off you as you launch yourself like a canon ball into the police line!

They all panic and start shooting, but the bullets are vaporized by the infinite power shooting off you.

You collide into the line of shields like a bowling ball into pins, making them all fly in various directions as blow them out of your way!

“LIGHTNING-STEEEEEEEEEEE-RIKE!” You call out triumphantly, spinning back onto your feet.

The cops roll around on the ground, most of them losing their weapons and gear as they return from the sky.

Several crash into front windshields of the scattered police cruisers, sinking into the hoods as the force dents the armored cars.

Others are quickly getting back to their feet, grabbing their displaced weapons urgently as you stand before them.

A: You don't have time to play with these guys! Start making your way to that tower while there's an opening!

“Battery!”

You look up and see 02 descending like an angel, a shower of feather's following her as she lands deftly on her boots.

“Show off.” You tease, but she just ignores it and points behind you.

You turn, and as you do you're alerted to the sound of two more fast approaching sirens!

As the sound hits your ears, you lock onto the sight of two police bikes speeding towards the scene, side by side as they race directly in your path.

You and 02 look at each other, giving a nod to signal that you both got the same idea.

You and her take off in a full sprint, rushing towards the oncoming bikes head on!

Just as they're a few meters away, you both leap off the ground, extending your legs for a double rider kick!

Boots are sent through the protective screens of helmets, blood and teeth spray out of the impact area, and both cops are thrown off their bikes, forced to eat pavement!

In a swift motion, you and 02 reach down in the middle of the kick and grab the bike's handle bars, shifting yourself and hooking your legs over the seats!

You both transfer from kicking to riding smoothly, speeding off as they take their rider-forms without even breaking a sweat!

For a moment, you thought you'd be too late getting to the Crime Syndicate HQ, but now it looks you're going to be early!

[To be continued soon!]

“Battery, there's something I must request.”

“What is it? Hell of a time to bring this up by the way.”

You're both speeding through Gotham, a trail of lightning and feathers streaking behind you in the riot filled streets.

“It pains me as well, but for Dr. Haiwee's sake... We cannot put Vegas through too much pain, and we mustn't drag out the fight.” 02 instructs you, and the moment you process them you can't help but do a double-take.

“W-What?! Are you seriously requesting mercy for that piece of shit? The one who nuked a city the night I got here?!” You ask, completely dumbstruck by her request.”

“Battery... You must look at it from a parent's point of view. He is a monster now, but long ago he was a beautiful baby cradled in his mother's arms. Dr. Haiwee has suffered enough having to watch her child turn into an ugly creature. We mustn't make her endure anymore pain.” 02 tries to reason with you, but you wave it off.

“Bull shit! Whatever he was back then died, and mom needs to get over it! Think of all the children he's robbed from their parents long before he even became an android! He was a goddamn school shooter, and Jester had the documents to prove it!” You curtly respond.

“... You won't truly replace him, if that's what you believe.” 02 informs you, and the words sting.

“There's nothing on this Earth that can be made to fill the hole Vegas left in his mother's heart... I know firsthand.”

A: “Maybe she will once he's dead and in a million pieces. Less talking, more driving.”

B: “... Fine, but I can't promise it'll be quick for him.”

C: “... What is your story anyway? If I'm going to consider you my sibling, I should at least bother to learn a thing about you, right?”

D: "... Fine, I'll kill him as quickly as I can. I just wanna go home to my family."

You want to scream at her over how ridiculous that is, but then you think about your little girl. How would you feel if that sweet child just turned into as something as vile as Vegas? Would you be able to completely disown her, even with all the love and care you have for her now?

It's horrible, but you understand.

“... Fine, but I can't promise it'll be quick for him.”

“Neither of us can. We just have to try. Thank you, Battery.” She says with a nod, revving her bike and speeding ahead of you.

You follow close behind. Thinking of your daughter just made you want to get this over with here and now.

It's quiet. That's what worries you the most.

No cops, no costumed goons... Nothing. Just you two, and the giant tower that looms above.

Atop the tower is a giant sphere, divided horizontally by foundation and a wide skyline.

“So... I'm guessing that giant golf-ball is important?” You ask, dismounting your bike.

“Possibly. We have no intel on what's inside, but we do know that the Crime Syndicate has to be here.” 02 answers, keeping her eyes locked onto it.

“Ultraman's hearing has probably picked us up by now, so consider stealth out of the option.”

You look around, double checking to make sure no one is around.

“... I'm guessing we beat mom here. I don't see the van.” You inform her, and she follows suit in surveying the area.

“... Just as well. She'd be in danger otherwise. Let's go.”

A: “Wait! Maybe we should hang back for a second in case she shows up.”

B: “Should we really be starting at the bottom floor? I was thinking about using some electricity to cling to the side of the building.”

C: “Lead the way.”

D: “Hold up, let me go in first to make sure everything copacetic. If I'm in trouble, I'll call for you.”

“Lead the way.”

You both take cautious steps toward the front doors, unable to see inside due to the tinted glass surrounding the front.

“Ready... Go!” 02 calls, shoulder bashing her way through the door, and you follow suit as you both charge through a mist of black glass fragments.

When you get inside, you're met with... A really nice reception area.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs5QGN-zhwM

The interior is what you would expect from a big corporate office, comfy lobby chairs facing the front desk, a large sign with “Wayne Enterprises” bolted onto it in golden letters, and even some public domain piano music softly playing over the speakers to top everything off.

“... No one's here.” 02 reassures you after scanning the room, moving forward as glass shards snap and crack under her boots.

You follow close behind, your eyes darting around desperate to find SOMETHING out of the ordinary. The fact that this place is so quiet is creeping you out, especially considering who's supposed to be inside.

“You think we're too late?” You ask, keeping your back to her as you make sure there isn't anyone skulking behind you.

“We would've noticed a ship taking off.” 02 answers, and a second later you get the confirmation that you both aren't alone in this tower.

“I dunno, you didn't notice that the door had a handle you stupid bitch. Who's to say a spaceship isn't too subtle for that toaster you call a brain.”

The voice is almost like yours, and it oozes through the intercom above you like grime.

“Call it a hunch, but I'm guessing that's Vegas.” You tell 02, and she just nods in response.

“Okay fuckheads, here's the deal,” Vegas crudely begins to inform you, the audible creak of a chair heard as he begins to speak.

“I'm having my birthday party today. It's a few days early, but I got big plans for the future so I won't have time later. Anyway, I don't remember inviting you retards, so I'm gonna have my other guests take care of you while I eat the fuck out of this cake.”

“...Tower of Death, right?” You call out to him, and you can hear the distinct sound of a fork dropping.

“HAHAHA! Motherfucker, we really are alike! Yes, it's exactly like Tower of Death! Five floors! Five challengers! Kill your way to the top, bro! AHAHAHA! Oh, man, this is too good!” Vegas cheers.

“Tower of Death?” 02 asks you, and you can't help but shake your head.

“Kung fu movie, don't worry about it.” You answer, glaring up at one of the intercom speakers.

A: “Listen asshole! You're the only thing standing between me and getting home to my daughter! Screw your games, I'm gonna massacre you!”
B: “Why the hell did the syndicate allow you to do that? I feel like most of them would have a stick up their ass over it.”
C: “Real funny, prick. You know what's funnier? The reason why your boyfriend is running late.”
D: “Let's just go. I'll cleave my way through these dipshits no matter what.”

Okay anons, honest question:

Would you guys just like a summary of Reno fighting to the top before finally reaching Vegas just so this doesn't drag on?
>>
>>2971467
Im enjoying the pacing, but Im a lurker so make of that what you will.
>>
>>2971467
I honestly think that's for the best, cause we'd have to go through FIVE different fights to reach Vegas, with each fight needing several votes and rolls. Add in the fact that you take over an hour to post something along with an inconsistent run schedule will basically mean that the tower portion will take up a couple of weeks at least.
>>
>>2971467
I'm personally enjoying the pacing currently, and I'd like to see what the tower has in store for us. But I also wouldn't mind a good old fashioned montage to sum it all up.
>>
>>2971467
i could go either way, but if it lowers the chance of us making shit rolls then cool.
>>
>>2971467
I wold personally prefer a montage Mach, I'm afraid to say. I like your stuff but I know a lot of other anons want us to hurry the fuck up.

>>2971531
I'm honestly really conflicted with what I should do and I'm not having fun with the quest at the moment.

I'll come back to this tomorrow night after a day of thinking it over. May try to wrap this up as possible and skip part 3 all together/start a new quest. Again, need time to think. I'm really sorry guys.
>>
>>2971576
That's fine Mach. You gotta do what makes sense for you.
>>
>>2971576
wrap this up as fast as possible*
>>
>>2971576
Please don't abort part three because of this man.
>>
>>2971576
Now don't be crazy, starting a new quest is a bit much.
>>
>>2971584
>>2971585
guys he said he's not having fun with it anymore, its done
>>
>>2971584
It's not set in stone yet, but I am rethinking it considering how this part ended up not being as good as I hoped. There's a risk that part 3 might not be as fun as I think it will be and it'll just be another abysmal slog. Don't get antsy, I'm just carefully considering things.
>>
If the man ain't having fun with it, then it ain't right to try and force him to give his time. Let him take a break and do something he enjoys, and he can always come back and continue part 3 when he again feels the motivation.

Besides if you enjoy this quest you will probably enjoy his next one. Breath of fresh air and all that.
>>
>>2971593
Not into the doomfags here calling for the death of the thread, we just got to having more regular threads and moving the plot along.
>>
>>2971598
I don't want to make it a death either. It'd be more of a definitive ending coming sooner than expected, and instead of a full part 3 there'd just be some flavor text glossing over taking control of a older Rena trying to be a super hero during the Batman Beyond period.
>>
>>2971613
Hnnnng, baby girl gets her own?
>>
>>2971593
I THINK the main issue with part 2, for your average poster, has been "namek syndrome". We're fine with things being slower, drawn out, really detailed...but you take that and put it in a foreign environment, where all the work making a name for yourself is gone, it suddenly goes from "basking in your glory" to "a slog". Not really your fault, "namek syndrome" has claimed the frustration of many questmasters. Just look at what the tournament did to Wong in MSPQ. (PS: pleasecomebackwongineedmyfix!)
I'm sure that once we're back on OUR earth and able to indulge in all of our dabblings in business, crime, and conquest, things'll improve greatly.
>>
>>2971687
Granted, I can't ACTUALLY speak for the other questers where I said "we", but that's the general feel I've gotten. It's not that this part isn't fun, or that we don't enjoy things taking they're time, it's only when you combine the two that you run into frustrations. Plus, as mentioned before, Reno's odd habit of rolling like a crackbitch for the entire stretch of a night on occasion.
>>
>>2971691
Never had a problem with the Alternate reality thing, it was the fact we barely had any threads and took weeks to do simple shit that hurt it this badly. Now that we have a more regular schedule instead of maybe once every two weeks, we are flying through it.
>>
>>2971613
To me, this quest has always been great. The highlight of my week. Your writing is solid and dialogue is usually very enjoyable. I only recommended the montage because I was worried other anons might jump ship if they get too bored/fed up. I can't do anything about it if you aren't having fun anymore, so just do what you think is best. And whatever you decide to do, I'll be on board with it and keep following your quests.
>>
>>2971576
You do you man. It's your story and we just live it. I would prefer to play it out but I personally don't mind Earth-3 and it (admittedly tired) shtick. If you do montage it can we at least get it as a perspective swap to Vegas or Zero-Two?

Okay anons, I've had a chance to take a moment for myself and make a decision!
There will be a summary post that speeds things along so we can get to the ending faster. Afterwards, I'll make a strawpoll you all can vote on to decide if we should continue with a part 3 OR start a new quest!

Won't be doing any updates at the moment since I'm at work, but expect some later tonight!

I like this alot as is, Its interesting to see it. But uh.. if you wanna skip ahead I'm here to read boss and have fun when I can.

Fighting through floor after floor would be tough and tedious...

Well, it would've been, but it turned out the Justice League had shown up to the party a few minutes after you did, bringing Lex and Jester in tow!

You gave them a quick rundown of what was happening, and it was unanimously agreed that they could tackle the individual floors while you ran to the top!

Still, the sprint up those stairs was exhausting, and once you made it to what you hoped would be the final door leading to the top of this tower you couldn't help but let out an exhausted sigh.

“I'm so done with this place... No offense, 02.” You tell her through pants.

“None taken... I don't think any of us want to be here either.” She responds, sounding perfectly fine.

“Heh... Good, because there's plenty of room for you in my world.” You respond with a smile, looking back towards the door.

“Ready?”

“Go!”

There's no time to take in details! You see Vegas, you know he looks like you dressed in some shitty cop uniform, you're here to beat him to death and that's it!

He's not going to get another word in, because he'll be too busy choking on your fist!

You give him every ounce of power you have in you and then some! 02 isn't a slouch either, as your catastrophic blows begin to tear off the synthetic flesh off of Vegas' body!

He's on his knees now, panting and wheezing as he kneels before your feet. He looks up at you with a face divided into flesh and robotic constructs, glaring at you both with eyes full of hate.

He wasn't what he was built up to be. The destruction you saw? The state of the city? It was fitting for a mass shooter like him. All he ever did was chew up the weak and spit out their bones, and there hasn't been a single person to put him through the ringer in years.

His luck's run out now, though. Not only has he met his match, but he brought a friend a long as well.

He tries to draw his gun, but suddenly his hand is blown clean off by a green star bolt striking it from above!

He howls in pain, falling back and clutching onto a smoldering stump.

“... I'm gonna go.” You tell him, turning away as a birdarang strikes him in the throat.

He gags and gurgles, a metallic and scratchy groan coming from his throat as he tries to speak to you.

“I know, you want to think that this was some fated encounter. You want to believe that our paths were meant to cross and that we would have the grandest battle that any universe would ever know. But for me...”

A powerful beam cannon melts through his stomach, while two tentacles of black magic shoot past you and 02 and tear off his legs.

“... This was a giant waste of time.” You finally part ways, watching as the crimson Manbeast pounces over you and 02 beginning to maul what's left of the screaming husk known as Vegas.

The Teen Tyrants enter, and the Power Riders leave.

***

“You really going so soon?”

You turn back to look at Jester, smiling.

Both Blackfires, 02, a grumpy Lain on crutches, and your mother stand at your side in the heroic clown's hideout.

“You know, the rest of your Justice pals had to chase the syndicate to the moon. Maybe they could use the guy who had the stones to blow off Vegas like he's some street beggar.”

“That's not my fight. Hell, none of these were. I just got lost on the way back home.” You tell him, extending a hand to offer a handshake.

He takes it in a firm grasp, the bells on his hat jingling as he shakes it.

“You should get lost more often. Who knows when I'll need my ass saved next.” Jester remarks with a chuckle.

“Seriously, thanks for keeping alive. I owe you one.”

Blackfire had been escorted by the Thunderforce to your Earth's Tamaran. Maybe your people would be too busy to notice two Tamaranian queens on different planets at the same time, but having your daughter see two moms would really damage her developing mind.

As for 02 and Lain... Well, “Blaine” rather, they didn't waste any time to start looking for a place to settle down. You promised you would pay for whatever home they found, and besides, Rena would already be bouncing off the walls enough as it is with just you coming back. Introducing two more aunts into her life would bring the whole house down.

However, it wouldn't hurt for her to meet her grandmother...

Your mother, Komand'r and you gathered around the front door of your home as the sun began to set overhead.

Carefully, you began to slide the door open and...

The first thing you see is Rena standing in the main hallway, wearing one of your wife's 80s rockband shirts as her eyes start to well up with tears.

“D-Dah... Daddy?” She croaks softly, getting ready to bawl.

“Hey princess! Guess who's finally--”

“DADDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

She nearly breaks you in half with her hug-tackle, and you swear to god you heard a sonic boom go off as she slammed you into the wooden bridge over your home's koi pond.

Naturally, the bridge snaps and splinters under the force of her love-filled charge, and you both make a big splash in the pond.

“Oh my! Are you alright, honey?” Your mother calls out, but Komand'r is quick to wave it off.

“He'll be fine. I'm more worried about the fish.”

“AWWWHHH!!! DADDY!!!!” Rena continues to cry as she hugs onto you tightly, and you can't help but laugh as you try to console the weeping five year old.

“Aww, hey now... Don't cry sweetheart.” you comfort her, patting the back of her head as she sniffles and looks up.

“Buh-But... I thought I'd never see you again and I thought you got hurt a-and--”

“Shh, none of that happened. I wasn't in any danger, me and mommy just had to go find your grandma.” You tell her, pointing at your mother still waiting at the doorstep.

“Grandma...?” She asks, wiping her eyes with a damp sleeve as she looks at the older woman.

“I have grandma?!” She gets excited again, bouncing up on her feet and almost flying straight into your mother before you get the chance to grab her.

“Ah, wait little lady! She's not as strong as mommy or daddy, so don't fly at her or she'll get hurt, okay?” You ask, and your daughter smiles widely and gives you a big nod.

“Okay!” She answers, and she quickly jumps out of the pond to scamper off to her grandmother.

“Hi!! I'm Rena and I'm five! Will you bake me cookies?” She asks with a big grin.

“Ah... You're such a little angel! Of course I will!” your mother answers as she lets out a soft chuckle, meanwhile you and your wife share a heartier laugh at Rena getting straight to the point.

There's time to celebrate family coming together later in the day, but first you need to make a quick phonecall.

“... So, that's my weekend. How've you been doing?”

“Bloody fuckin' hell, lad... An' I was cock-sure my tale was gonna blow yours outta the fuckin' water.”

It's been a few hours since you had dinner with the family, and now you're sharing a few drinks with Lady Black at your cabaret's bar.

“Tell me it anyway. Trust me, mine wasn't as cool as it sounds. It was honestly a huge pain in the ass.” You encourage her, taking a swig of sake.

“Well, remember when I was shakin' you down over The Light? Well, your wife got too distracted by the disappearance and while I can't legally disclose the circumstances, I can at least confirm that her actions exposed some big players in that rubbish.” Lady Black begins to explain, finishing her scotch.

“Long n' short of it is that the light's disbanded. Luthor will do time for a year and get out, Agool or whatever the slant's fuckin' name is will just use that resurrection shyte, and I can't imagine that banishing a demon child ain't a permanent solution... Everyone else took the room temperature challenge though! Gahaha!!”

Lady Black slaps you on the back with her one arm as she cackles, clearly a bit tipsy.

“Ah, but the real kicker is that... Aghh, don't tell Waller I leaked this, but fuckin' guy was immortal. Like, the bloke was Genghis Khan, Vlad the Impaler... The shithead was every blood thirsty conqueror in history!”

“Wow... That's actually something. Half the history textbooks my kid's gonna be reading in school are going to be about nothing but him.” You ponder aloud, rubbing your chin.

“Yeh, but the CIA will see to it that Vandal Savage doesn't get a scrap of paper talkin' about 'im... Good fuckin' riddance too, guy couldn't go once century without bein' a bloody megalomaniac. Cheeky cunt...”

Lady Black pulls a pack of her smokes out of her jacket, giving you a serious look.

“Now then, you said you had some info on where a certain clown was hidin'?”

“I do, but I have a price.” You tell her, pulling out a small slip of paper.

“Name it, love.” She orders, flicking a lighter.

“However you get to him, just kill him and leave. Don't glorify his death, and don't give him the common courtesy of listening to any of his drivel. That'll be more painful than any torture you could put him through. Don't let him get a single punchline in.”

She cocks an eyebrow at you.

“Huh... Never thought about it like that. I'll pass the request along. Now then...”

You smile, handing her the paper with Joker's possible location written on it.
“Well Black, it was good talking to you. You have a goodnight now.” You tell her, starting to get out of your seat.

“Hold on, mate. I'm curious... What're you gonna do after all that shite? With the rest of yer life, I mean. You still gonna wear that ridiculous suit and pick fights with college kids in tights?” Black asks with a half grin.

Does this lead to part 3?
>>

Man, doing shit with Lobo would be great. Still, got a family, so guess that's off the table. Retiring sounds damn boring though.

>C: “Of course. What else am I supposed to do, collect stamps?”

Our kid can become a superhero if she wants though.

Well this was disappointing. You went from leading us through a slog of action only to have the climax be really short, which ultimately made all of our previous triumphs basically worthless.
>>
What's the situation with Barbara?

>A: “Nah. I'm retired. Besides, I got a future super hero to train.”

It's basically like we had 40 episodes on Namek leading up to the fight with Freiza, only to have the 'fight' last less than 5 minutes. You really need to work on pacing dude.
>>
>>2974334
I'm disappointed too, because a lot of things I planned had to be rushed through, and even then it wasn't enough. I guess I'll just learn from this mistake and try harder in the future!

>>2974336
She doesn't particularly care for you anymore. Depending on how things go, you might see this play out in the future!
>>
>>2974351
Dude, I just wanted to skip past the tower of death part and have the fight with Vegas go on in your normal pace, which is actually great for boss battles.
>>
>>2974305
>A: “Nah. I'm retired. Besides, I got a future super hero to train.”
>>
>>2974351
I understand that maybe you weren't having fun, but deciding to rush the plot and all the character fluff because because of one anon seems pretty extreme Mach. I really hope you aren't so easily swayed when you do another quest in the future.
>>
>>2974358
At several points during this particular part of the quest, anons wanted things to be skipped or they said that things were going on for too long. Honestly, I really considered this whole Earth 3 thing a huge failure seeing how even I wasn't having fun with it anymore. To try and keep others and myself happy with questing, I went into overdrive and skipped through to the ending so we could all be done with it. This wasn't Namek for me. It was a season of The Walking Dead, and if you've seen the show you know how abysmal that is to sit through. I'm sorry I ended things this way, but it's my opinion that this is better than just abruptly saying "screw it new quest" because I can at least give some closure this way.
>>
>>2974374
Thank you. I have really enjoyed this quest

>A

You shake your head.

“Nah. I'm retired. Besides, I got a future super hero to train.” You tell her with a wink.

As you start to walk off, a face you haven't seen in a while is quick to join your side.

“You know, you could've texted or something to let me know that you're back.” Umi grumbles, flicking the back of his hand at your arm.

“Jesus man, I just got done telling the story...” You groan, looking over at him.

“I'm sorry I didn't send you a post card from another dimension, sweetie. You mind getting off my ass now? I'm exhausted.”

“Sure, but I hope you don't mind every singe one of our fighters taking my place. Without you being here to coordinate matches attendance has been in the shitter! Not to mention our guys are acting like spoiled bitches over who gets what time slot...”

“... Hey, you think a little girl could beat up King Shark?” You ask Umi, and he just looks back at you like you're delirious.

“Are you... Are you talking about your friggin' daughter?! She'll get scared shitless of that guy!”

“Good.” You say with a smug grin.

“She's gonna need practice looking at ugly mugs like his.”

Alright guys, there's more to add to this ending, but it all depends on the results of this strawpoll:

http://www.strawpoll.me/16656352

I'll leave this up for the next 24 hours, and depending on the results I'll either write up a more definitive ending or one that leads into part 3! Please vote for whatever you think will be best!
>>
>>2974397
Why the DBZ oversaturation? Saiyan Conqueror Quest is the best on the board.
>>
>>2974374
Its not the pacing that was the real problem, it was you only going once a week, or even two weeks, to move a single fight along. If you had the schedule you do now, it would be a excellent season, and it wouldn't require a painfully rushed ending.
>>
Honestly it seems like you’ve got setting fatigue for writing this story. Maybe just try writing something else for a bit and see how you feel about part three after a while.
>>
>>2974440
There were still anons complaining about the pacing with the new schedule though. It just wasn't enjoyable anymore and I wish I had a different setting all together for Part 2.
>>
DC Quest 3: Now we play as Rena and her super hero identity as Junior Rider
>>
>>2974524
Who is still daddys little girl, but hes got her younger sister and brother and spends all his energy to embarrass her.
>>

>>
>>2974465
Fuck them then, Do what you find is enjoyable. There was no reason to change shit because a few bitched, They can leave if they don't like it. Not everybody can be pleased.
>>
>>2974465
Hey, I am all for DC quest, but if you don't want to do it, having a Black Lagoon quest on the board would be kickass.
>>
>>2974465
The annoying fucks that complained were doing it because they couldn't vote, that would happen regardless of your schedule. Fuck em. DC quest is a good thing, getting bent out of shape for learning how to quest right happens to everyone.
>>
>>2974397
Mach, you should have as much fun questing as we do, given that you are the one churning out all the text. Do what you find fun, not what we claim might be fun.

Okay, just relax... Dad said a clear head was the most important thing when it came to winning fights...

… But he also said you should think about cool things to say during the fight, so how does that work? Half-clear and half-cool? You'd have to ask him after.

You keep your fists raised, and your sneakers dig into the ground below you as you stare intensely ahead at your opponent.

It's taking everything you got to not shake like a leaf, because you know for a fact the person you're fighting is super strong!

But you can't give up! Heroes never give up, no matter what!

You just gotta do your best and show him how strong you really are!

A: Fly at him hit his face!

B: Tackle him! That always works!

C: Try that ummm... Starbowl thing!

D: Do a flying kick! And then do a backflip into another flying kick!

“HERE I COME!” You shout in a voice bellowing with strength and heroism!

You fly forward, poking your leg towards the bad guy as you soar at him as hard as you can!

However, he just slaps the kick away like it's nothing! No fair!

You spin in the air wildly for a moment, wailing as you get a bit dizzy.

You shake it off though, and land to do a back flip into another flying kick!

This time you get 'em really good! The tip of your shoe gets him right in the eye and--

“AWH!! GAHDDAMMIT!”

He jerks his face away while throwing a counter punch directly into your forehead. It hurts. A lot.

You're sent flying back into the ground, harshly rolling backwards and getting several scrapes and bruises from the stone floor alone.

Struggling through a throbbing pain, you sit up on your knees and look at the red marks forming on your arms and palms. There's also a intense throbbing pain all over your head. It really hurts...

Don't cry... Whatever you do don't... Cry...

“RENO! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?! SHE IS TEN YEARS OLD!”

“Oh god, honey are you okay?! I'm so sorry I-I didn't mean to do that! It was a reflex when you hit me in the eye and...”

Don't...

“I AM GOING TO BEAT YOUR ASS SENSELESS! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE TRAINING HER, NOT ABUSING HER!”

“Babe! It was a reflex! I know I screwed so up you don't have to keep hammering it in! Sometimes you can be a real--”

A sharp cry comes out of your throat, and soon your cheeks are soaked with tears.

“Rena!”

Your dad quickly rushes down to you and moves your hair out of your face, checking where he hit you.

Soon your mom comes out, a mixture of anger for your father and concern for you sits on her face.

“Oh, sweetie... It looks like a nasty bump, but you'll be okay. I'm sure Dad will fix it up with plenty of ice cream... Won't he?”

“Of course! Jeez... aw baby girl I'm so, so sorry! Are you okay?”
You sniffle, hiccuping on a few whimpers.

A: “I-I'm fine... B-but heroes don't cry s-so... I'm a stupid baby...”

B: “N-No... That really h-hurt m-me... I don't w-want to do this anymore...”

C: “It's o-okay dad... Wh... Would it be okay if we trained more after ice cream?”

You rub your eyes, drying the tears.

“It's o-okay dad... Wh... Would it be okay if we trained more after ice cream?”

His and your mom's eyes go wide.

“Honey... Are you sure? You look pretty banged up sweetheart.” Your mom asks, putting a gentle hand on the side of your face and looking you over more.

“Y-Yeah!” You declare, bawling up your hands into fists and raising them close to your chest.

“So what if I get beat up? A-All heroes have to get hit, right?”

“... Heh, that's my girl.”

Your dad smiles and kisses where he hit you on the head, making it feel better and putting a big smile on your face.

“Here, this'll help...” Your dad begins to say, reaching into his jacket.

He pulls out a red cloth... Wait! It's the red scarf he wears when he's in his cool costume!

Opening the scarf, he presses it against your forehead and wraps it around the back, tying it up and turning it into a headband.

“How's it feel? Do you like it?” He asks with a grin.

You reach your hands up to touch the cloth, tracing your fingers across the top of your head.

Having something this special on you... It makes you feel really happy!

You giggle and show your dad a wide smile, confirming that you love it.

“Great! Come on, we'll have a ton of ice cream, sleep, and get back to making you the toughest girl on the planet!” He promises you, helping you off the ground and taking you by the hand.

You walk excitedly back inside with him and your mom, one hand still holding onto the headband tightly. There's no way you'd ever let go of it!

Alright guys! Look forward to the start of part 3 Friday!

Don't feel bad Mach, we all appreciate you.

>>2976549
No quest is perfect, Mach. I'm eager to see what you have in store for Rena, her family, and her seemingly endless train of not-even-close-to-actually-related Aunts.
>>

>>
>>2974386
I only just looked back at this, but seriously? We were gone for, what, two days, and they couldn't keep the fights straight without us? I'm starting to think that the whole "you spend all your time in that stupid Meta Brawl" part of Eclipse's complaint is less about indulgence and more about "I have to run herd on a bunch of supers who act like toddlers, if I'm not there, they're going to break EVERYTHING."
>>
>>2976966
The fact that Reno is a stabilizing force says a lot about our organization.
>>
>>2978703
And yet, Umi seems to have his head mostly on straight. Do you think he's been running interference to keep us from realizing the ridiculous Three Stooges level of insanity of everyone below him in our organization? It just seems like the kind of thing we'd have nipped in the bud if we realized how bad things were.
>>
>>2978918
And now I want to hear more about what went wrong
>X/XX/XX
>Incident records, personal collection, UMI'S EYES ONLY
>The boss has been gone for one day, and it's madness. I don't know HOW Killer Frost managed to set a fire in the kitchen, but the staff swear it was her. When asked, all she recalls is that she was tired of waiting for her waffles and decided to make her own. We don't even SERVE waffles!
>In addition, seven Tamaranean "companions" decided to try human street racing on some of our old bikes, despite none of them having licenses. There were 54 injuries, and two buildings will have to be completely rebuilt.
>I'd thought that the only issues would be from the supervillains - which obviously require the intimidating presence of Reno to behave - and the Tamaraneans - who are left without leadership, as their king is vanished and their queen is busy searching for him - but the most depressing fact is that our own men have also been causing problems.
>Somehow, 20 of our men got it into their heads that Reno got back into the old habits of being a street gang, and thought the gift of a new neighborhood would be impressive enough to get him to come back and congratulate them.
>Never in my life have I seen a gang war last ten minutes, but I suppose it's easy to forget what a huge disadvantage the regular gangbangers are at, considering they have - at best - Mac-10s, while we have blaster rifles, armor, and jetpacks.
>I am officially taking the rest of my day off. I just heard Killer Croc screaming about how he wanted tuna, so I have locked the door to my office, and I will be remaining here with a full bottle of sake until things calm down.
>If nothing else, this proves that never again can Reno be allowed to leave the building for longer than 12 hours.
>>
>>2976549
that's ok mach, just as long as you have Reno and Blackfire make us a younger brother
>>
>>2978923
Honestly, the idea that our veteran, hyper tech geared, Oni members taking over a full neighborhood in a day to appease the boss sounds hilarious.
