Still Alive Edition
Last time the halflings were ousted from their fertile river valley by reptilian invaders. Forced to rebuild in the rocky foothills of the north, they met innumerable hardships.
Just as the halfling tribe seems to be recovering from a string of bad luck, a tribe of strange folk from the north arrived bearing gifts and dark omens.
They are now recruiting an inter-tribal army to drive out the reptiles and restore peace to the region.

Last Time
>host an feast for our visitors
>offer full aid for the campaign, 10 hobbits armed with bows, 10 carpenters and food that we can spare without risking an famine.
The tallfolk are jubilant at your support, at the feast they entertain the village with skits and sing songs of unity in the face of adversity.
>"Oh wind, I will stand and face you!_I will go and head for the brilliance._Embracing prayer to my heart, I wander the seemingly dark future._Oh wind, I am not afraid!_Love is the miracle I have found!_It's my joy to believe in you._The storm blows so that we might realize love."

They will leave a few of their number to assist the tribe and help relay messages. As the group gathers their things and prepares to leave, you find that they have spent their time here improving the frog pond. It is now bumped up almost to Tier 1. With a little more work, the frogs will have enough room to spawn.

With the hot sun beating on their backs, the halflings can finally wipe the sweat off their brows and admire the nice pond they built before everyone starts to jump in and cool off.
On starry nights around the campfire, the buffrogs sing a melody of croaks and chirps to signal the time for 'sleep'.
>T1 Frogpond [complete]

Learning from the frustration of digging in the rocky earth, several carpenters and flintknappers decide to have a competition to craft the best digging implement. After two weeks of tinkering, the strongest halflings in the village gather at the pond armed with their sponsor's digging tool to see who can dig the farthest the fastest and win a prize of the first frogsteak of the harvest for the digger and first pick of the spawn for the craftsman. As the race starts, they dig furiously. Two tools break, one unravels and falls apart, but two more keep going neck-and-neck until one digger slips on the mud and loses too much ground to catch up.
After much celebration and fanfare, the two craftsmen shake hands, compare their inventions and get to work for round two.
>T1 Craftsmanship (2/5)

One day, an emerald raven flies to one of the elves in the village. After much squawking, the elf looks downcast and the raven flies back to the south. Although fortification building went well, a band of raptors tore through the camp while the best warriors were out scouting. Several brave souls were lost. We may have lost the element of surprise, but this campaign is just getting started.

>train 10 archers

Inspired by elves skills with birds, our hunters ask their help in taming some of the local birds of prey. It might be needed to wait untill spring for young birds to be born, before trying to actually capture and train some.

10 of the hunters and from other volunteers start to train for more professional bow using to be able to defend their homes if needed.

What do you mean with (take 50)?

Its just an automatic average success.
Like, no need to roll 1d100 for something simple like tying your own shoes.
But you can if you want to have a chance of accomplishing it spectacularly poorly.

Sorry, got called into work before I could even turn on the computer this morning.

As seasons change, the craftsmen continue their work. But nothing spectacular happens this time. The race is close but definitive, both parties presenting more durable versions of their previous creations. They still feel like they should be combining traits of both, but neither is quite sure how to go about it.
>T1 Craftsmanship(3/5)

Some of the hunters have been watching curiously the relationship the elves have with the ravens. Perhaps we could do something similar to help us with hunting. Approaching one of them to ask about how best to tame birds, he smiles and replies “Let’s find out.” He then leads them off into the hills until they hear the piercing cry of a falcon overhead. After making visual contact, he sits down in the grass and gazes up at the bird, bidding the curious hunters to do the same. For the next few weeks they continue making daily treks to go watch the birds, learning their routines, hunting styles, and distinctive calls. Finally, when asked what the plan is for capturing one of these birds, he cocks his head confused then looks up at the birds, smiles wistfully as a cool breeze billows his hair and responds, “What makes the birds fly?”
>Culture Fact: Do the Halflings have a preexisting belief system that explains flight?
Their culture is still actually quite young, so “no” is a perfectly valid answer too.

Likewise other Halflings have been curiously observing the elves skill with their large bows. There seems to be quite a debate among the tribe about whether slings or bows are better. Every Halfling carries a sling and learns how to use it as a favorite childhood toy. They are easy to make, and in such a rocky place, ammo is easy to find. They also hit harder, and much farther than bows. Although the longer bows of the elves can get close. Meanwhile bows are, as you’ve come to discover, difficult to make, sometimes dangerous to use, require custom-made ammo and simply don’t pack the punch or the range of the trusty sling. However, several of the hunters now swear by them for their better penetration on large game. Of course this sparks a response from others that a properly made sling with proper ammo can do anything a bow can only better. Regardless of the ongoing debate, most agree that since the elves are more proficient in the use of bows, it would be prudent to try and pick-up a few pointers while they’re here. Once again the elves are eager to share their knowledge with a receptive audience and begin hosting regular classes for a group of bow-loving Halflings.
>Training 10-T2 Archers(1/10)

One fateful day, an emerald raven delivers another message: The defenses are now complete, but raptors have been seen stalking the outskirts and managed to pick-off a few more of the defenders before disappearing without a trace.
>>
Can also complete the culture fact first to get the special fall Husbandry bonus. Thought it might be better to stage it as a cultural dialogue than a one-sided lecture.

Finally back.
>flight comes from divine orgins, it is an blessing from gods or from spirits of the air.
At this, the elf looks down at the halfling and smiles. "I guess The Eternal Spirit speaks to us all."
A few days later, the prospective bird-tamers meet the elves at a campfire in the woods. Crouched over the fire is an elf wearing a bird mask and adorned with a cloak of emerald feathers. As the halflings sit around the fire, the other two elves begin singing and playing instruments in an eerie lilting tune, swaying with the rhythm. The bird-faced elf then tosses a bundle of aromatic herbs on the fire, immersing the entire area in a flowery wintergreen smell. The halflings eventually find themselves caught up in the song and swaying as well. They then begin to notice everything around them. Fire, trees, grass, dirt, stone, water, birds, breeze, squirrels, each other. It is as if they're senses are heightening to the point that they can feel everything around them in an ever expanding radius as an extension of their own bodies.
As the ceremony continues, the bird-masked shaman explains: “All movement is caused by invisible spirits. Water flows, leaves fall, plants grow and animals move all because they have spirits guiding their physical forms. Without these spirits there is only death. But just like the cycles of nature, the spirits are all connected to the Eternal Spirit, just as plants draw energy from the soil, so all spirits draw energy from this connection. The birds are deeply in tune with the spirits of the wind. They have a bond that allows them to ride these spirits high into the air.”
“When you learn to cultivate a relationship with the spirits of life around you, you too can bid them to lend you their aid. He then raises his arms to the sky and cries out. A moment later a falcon swoops down and perches on his hand.”
Petting the bird lovingly, he continues: “However, to harness this energy, you must always remember that you are connected to all life and everything you are is totally dependent on it. If you forget this then, just as a flower torn from the earth, your heart will be corrupted and destroyed. At this, the bird flies of into the starry twilight with a shrill lingering cry.”

Working diligently through the winter months, the great artisans quietly tinker with their secret creations. Finally, as the first green buds of spring begin to rise, so too rise the master crafters out of their huts. With a silent glance, they know that it is time. The entire village congregates at the farm to bear witness as the craftsmen finally unveil their mighty tools and hand them to the farmers. As the starting frog croaks, they cut through the cold rocky ground like butter. The crowd is enthralled by the speed and efficiency of the tools. So much so that no one remembers to keep track of the race. When the field is thoroughly tilled, everyone cheers and both crafters and farmers are lifted up and carried off to a feast.

Sorry I'm so sporadic. Going through a job transition and doing this in my sparse spare time.

The hobbits are super excited that, with their new tools, they should be able to dig proper holes to live in. The diggers eagerly attack the earth, carving out grand dwellings in the tall hills. After completing one hole, two diggers began work on another, while a family of three moved into their new home. Unfortunately they dug to greedily and too deep, awakening an ancient and terrible foe, gravity. Little did they know that collapse and ruin awaited them all.

As the prospective falconers eagerly continued their ornithological education, they found themselves spending several hours each day laying in the grass observing the birds. Little did they know that they too were being watched, and a group of three bright young lads failed to return home for supper one day.

True to his word, John Mudfoots continued his pottery research slow and steady, gradually coming to understand the subtle nuances of fire and clay without incident.
>T1 Pottery(2/10)

A raven returns ahead of schedule reporting that an attack was made by the raptors on the fort, but fell right into our trap. However no progress has yet been made on discovering the origin of the problem. Perhaps this victory is a sign of things to come.

As the spring comes to a close, though we mourn those lost, we must also celebrate new life in the community. Two babies are born, one young girl comes of age and the water of the pond is quivering with giant tadpoles. Also the first goats are now helping carry supplies on the farm, the yearlings are being trained and more kids are had.
