Above you grumbles a grey sky where sullen turgid clouds create a colourless canvas which blocks any proof that there is a warm sun above. Daggers of lightning rip free from their creators and launch themselves towards the ground impaling anyone who is unlucky enough for the gods to wish to smite. “Slave 223 present yourself.” Shouts a man, demanding you forwards. You are cowering from the biting wind behind a wooden platform like the rest of the slaves, who like you are panicking about their dismal prospects. Leaving the queue you make your way to the steps on the rear of the shoddy wooden structure. As you get closer you notice a few of the support beams hidden underneath are rotting and missing chunks. Most likely your slavers know about it too but care little about its appearance as long as it functions. The only appearance that matters are you, the slaves. With each step, your feet sink into the waterlogged mud. The runny sludge oozes between your toes and goes under your toenails. Every time you bring your feet up above the watery layer creates a sick slurp as the suction from the muck which tries to grab you, to make you become its slave. A large iron collar colours your neck with yellow bruises from the loose fitting. After what feels like an eternity your feet meet the wooden steps and your small body begins to scale them. From one ill step, you feel a splinter embed itself in your mucky foot. Carrying on you ignore the pain, it is so numb and dulled by your humiliation. By your people’s rape, from how your proud race have been so violated. All are in servitude if not slaughtered. A memory flashes before your eyes and you see the sight of your father stubbornly refusing to move from his throne as an Orc’s axe hurtles to his neck. Reaching the top of the platform you notice a trap door. This place doubles as the local execution square. The man presenting this foul market beckons you forward toward the front of the stage. Making your way over you slip and fall, landing painfully on your face. There are no extra bruises or blood the man sees with relief; he wouldn’t want your value to decrease. Standing in front of the fetid masses the human auctioneer goes over your features but you can’t hear his voice. The torrent of heavy water beating on the wood drowns him out with help from your mental daze. His hand strokes your muddy golden blond hair and fingers force themselves into your mouth showing off your gleaming white teeth. Ignoring all the eyes boring into you, you concentrate on the harsh wind. How it cuts through your drab rags and into your bones. Not that you care but there seems to be excitement in the crowd, over you. You guess the bids have started to go high at this point from mummers and gasp. Elves like yourself always go for large prices. You have been sold, a figure walks up to the stage and grabs the lead connected to your collar. Looking up you see he is a….>Orc>Human>Gnoll

Towering above you stands your new master, a human dressed in smart finery. The rain assaults your eyes blocking out your vision of him. All you can tell is that he's rich and large for a human.“Come on.” He calls out in a gentle and deep voice as he gives a soft tug on your leash. Unbeknownst to him, it digs into your bruised neck eliciting a hiss of pain. But he is focused on your path forward. The mob parts, wary of your new master’s obvious power and opulence. Wind bites into you again and your small frame shudders. You are young, looking 14 in human year but that is due to your elf blood. Naturally, you age faster but unlike a human of your years, your mind is still as childish as your body. Rain continues to batter your face hiding your tears at from your new predicament. Finishing your route your master stops his gentle tugs. Before two of you stands a grand carriage, the bright vibrant colours speaking of its owner's wealth hurts your eyes from the grey contrast from the surroundings. Sitting atop the vehicle is a well-built man in his thirties, both he and your master look like they have eaten more food yesterday then you have in the last month. During your time when owned by the slavers, you have had to subsist on meals that you can barely call gruel.Arriving at carriage similar to the royal one your parents used to own, the driver gently gets off his sheltered seat which only provided him with the smallest concealment from this downpour. He opens the door for the both of you to enter. Your master goes first and you follow forgetting that your feet are murky with liquid dirt. Just as you enter you remember it; you hope your new master won’t punish you too much for running the interior carpet.Nervously you look up, into his eyes with your bright blue ones. You see a smile on his face and warmth in that smile. He stands up and reaches for something above your head, it is a grey dark blue towel and he gently places it on your lap. Hurriedly you wrap it around your drenched freezing body hoping for it to provide some heat.“Err… Hi, I’m Alexander. I guess I’m your new master. But that’s not what I want; ever since I saw you above the stage I fell in love with you. I know it’s odd but it’s true. It was love at first sight. That sad grimace adoring your face from a woman as beautiful as you with that horrid backdrop stirred something within me.” He nervously blurts out as a blush beams across his face. "... You don’t speak, you don’t even look into his eyes. Clearly, this man is trying to trick you. After everything you’ve been through these last couple of months, you won’t be fooled this easily. As if he could really feel such things.Entering the forest you can no longer hear the dull thud of the raindrops bombarding the roof of your carriage. That distraction has been ripped from your hands all there is, is the man sitting across from you with a panicked grin etched over his face. The rest of the ride goes without the two of you sharing any words. Awkwardness from the man’s declaration makes the silence defeating. Neither of you knows what to say in this situation so you both rack your brains for the correct thing to say. About an hour later you leave the green shield of the treetops as you approach a large gate. It easily is three times your height and ends with polished silver spikes adorning the erect spear making up the gate. The pathway also ends here. This is must lead to where your master lives. Passing through the gate you catch the sight of one of the guards who looks at you quizzically. The drivers continues across the cobbled road through a magnificent garden, one that could rival your old one. When you lived with your parents in your castle. When they were alive. When you weren’t a slave. Rare plants decorate your entrance, you always been fascinated with botany but even you can’t name all of them. Coming up to the end of the journey you are greeted by the sight on a grand mansion, it is clear that it was made by humans but it borrows heavily from elven architecture with the integration of plant life meshing with the stone mansion. Alexander’s wealth looks like it could have been matched your parents’ during the height their reign. Your master reaches for an umbrella in the same place he stowed your towel and takes your hand whilst using the device to shield you from the howling gale. Taking your hand he hurriedly pulls you through the oversized front doors and into the cover of the building. As beautiful as the outside is, the inside blows it away. Stunning paintings adorn the walls and a rich carpet covers the floor. With your hand still in his, he leads you into a room with a large dining table as the centrepiece. “Sit down, have some food. You look like you need it.” Finally, your master realises that he’s been holding your hand the whole time. Like an electric shock passes into him, Alexander jumps back worried about offending or hurting you. “I’m so sorry I didn’t mean too…”Both of you take your seats across the table from each other. It is clear he is bursting with questions but doesn’t want to startle or alarm you. This play he puts on doesn’t amuse you but he has warm food here for you so you won’t look a gift horse in the mouth.Do you ask him anything?>Yes (Write in)>Keep silent

>>2990800> Yes (Write in)Ask for a chance to get cleaned up and maybe get some fresh clothes.Overall, this guy seems nervous and a bit naive, which could make manipulating him easier. We should keep up the reserved attitude and try to salvage whatever poise we can so that we’ll be more intimidating toward him. Remain polite but distant at first, though be sure to sprinkle in little hints of affection whenever he does something nice for positive reinforcement. Maybe drop a hint here or there that we are reluctant to open up because of the horrible stuff we’ve been through. For negative reinforcement, little flashes of ice cold attitude are probably our best bet, but should be used sparingly. To keep control of him, we need to make sure he never gets so frustrated with us that he remembers he’s the one with the actual power. Also, be prepared to bone him if that’s what’s necessary to keep him enthralled. He seems to have some really storybook ideas about love at first sight and all that, so taking the lead might actually put him on the back foot and help us control him.
>>2991875I also question if we're mature enough to even think that about the guy. We're probably not even ten years old. There's probably some way to worm ourselves into daughteru status but we're also too young and (previously) sheltered to know how to do that.

Frowning, you level an icy glare at Alexander that erases the childish glee from his face over the course of a few tense seconds. You might be nothing but a slave now, but you were once a princess of a proud and noble race of Elves, not some exotic plaything to a man you’d never even known until today. Channeling what dignity you have left in your muddy rags, you cross your arms and become every bit the dagger-eyed elven noblewoman your mother had been before her passing.Long enough to make her proud, you hope, before you feel a sharp pang of hunger that impales you like a row of pikes. Gritting your teeth, it takes the last vestiges of your willpower to avoid reacting too overtly but in the condition you’re in, predictably it only takes a few moments more.Slowly but surely, your fingers gravitate closer and closer to the table, inching over to the shining set of utensils placed just for you not far from several steaming hot plates of human food. Glancing momentarily at the cutlery you’d learned how to use years ago in the Court and the various dishes of assorted meats and vegetables nearby, you feel a root of fear take hold in your mind after immediately considering the potential consequences of your impetuous behavior. In your short-lived moment of pride, you may have delivered an insult to your master that in your current state, you may not easily be able to redress. Not only has your new master obviously spent a great deal of money and effort purchasing you from the auction, but he also prepared this feast for you knowing that you’d likely be starving fresh from the slave pen. Snubbing him by acting defiant in his own home, surrounded by his food and leaving a trail of watery mud on his carpet is the kind of insult that you’ve seen snobby diplomats flogged or even executed in person at your own Court. Briefly reliving the painful memories of your previous captivity, you’ve also seen many, many heinous punishments done to slaves like you for far less.Grimacing nervously, your feelings of fear and anxiety vanish instantly when you meet his eyes again over the table. Rather than finding Alexanders’ face filled with indignant fury like you’d imagined, you see a warm smile welcoming you that leaves you nothing but abject surprise. Freezing in place to see if this is some kind of trick, you only relax slightly when Alexander laughs heartily before briefly fixing one of the neatly folded cloth napkins near him idly. “My apologies, I believe that my fascination with you has clouded my judgement in a way that I know must seem unsightly for a gentleman like myself. You need not worry, I shan’t act in such a childish manner again."Pouring a little red wine into a gilded chalice from an opened bottle, he gazes into the crimson liquid and smirks before whispering aloud as if quoting some obscure literature. “Pride is a wonderful thing, truly. Though their station be far apart, the slave and the King differ little where it counts."
>>2994292For your part, you try your best not to react to this sudden change in Alexander but you find it increasingly difficult the more you take everything in. Moments ago, the man had been sputtering about like the lovesick fool in a play, but now he has begun to act every bit the noble gentleman you’d expect given his wealth and station. Was it your little act of self-respect that inspired such a dramatic change in Alexander, or is something far different at work here?Whatever the answer, you cannot ignore your empty stomach for much longer confronted with the feast laid bare before you and moments later nothing can be heard between the two of you besides your own chewing and drinking and some occasional sips of wine in-between the lively crackle of the fireplace.“Regardless,” Alexander intones suddenly after a particularly deep sip of his wine that briefly has you desperately avoiding choking on a course of what can best be described as an over-dressed casserole that tastes far appetizing than it appears, “I prefer that we discuss something over dinner, for tradition’s sake. It’s a family custom to hold a little game when we have guests over, you see.”“Ask me a few questions, about anything at all and you’ll have your answers,” he says with a mischievous grin that eerily reminds you of the head-over-heels man who’d received you not so long ago, “But once I’m done, you’ll have to answer my questions truthfully too. Speaking frankly, these conversations tend to take longer than one would expect but neither of us have any pressing matters to attend to, do we?”[You stayed silent. Alexander will remember that.]--------------------Sorry, busy week. Should have much more time to work with in the coming days, it is what it is.

Given free reign to ask however many questions you’d like, it only takes a brief moment to fire off everything roiling around in your head. “What do you want from me? Will you hurt me? What’ll happen after this? Who are you? Can I take a bath?” Smiling patiently, Alexander places his drink on the dining table and rubs his eyes with his sleeve as if he’d just aged a few decades. Accepting his fate, he starts talking but his tone never gets any more serious than the amused drawl of an exasperated father explaining things to a child. “I would have preferred the questions to come a little slower, but given your youth and the circumstances I confess I understand completely.”He matches your eyes and transfixes you with a confident stare before continuing on, “I picked you out of that filthy market because I couldn’t bear to see a flower like you being auctioned out to a band of filthy pigs. I never lied about that part, my dear.”“And no, I wouldn’t dare hurt you. I’m sure you’ve been through quite enough in the last few months, it wouldn’t be right for the world to let anything worse happen you.”Reaching into his pocket, Alexander pulls out a gleaming pocket watch with an emblazoned serpent wrapped around a spear on the cover giving you a brief nod. “Alexander Macklind, of the venerable House Macklind. Head of the family after my father passed a few years ago, though my siblings and I can’t say we miss him too much. I’ve got two sisters and a brother, all of them married off or otherwise engaged at their own places which leaves me alone to take care of the family business.”Looking intensely at the emblem, you seem to recall that you’ve seen it somewhere before…Suddenly memories of the horrible slaughter at the Elven royal palace flood back to you and before you know it, you start against your chair in shock. Bloody serpents emblazoned on the axe that had decapitated your cousin as an Orc laughed in horrifying glee, on the spear that had gutted your royal tutor as he struggled for his life pinned by a hairy gnoll foaming at the mouth. And on the longsword that decapitated your father, wielded by the King of Men before the very throne of Elfdom staining the wooden tiles crimson. Frowning as he realizes the connection you’ve made through your expression, Alexander closes his eyes in what seems like shame before shaking his head slightly. “And that business is the manufacture, transportation, and sale of weapons of all kinds. Many of our weapons were used in the slaughter of the Elf Kingdoms, that is true.”
>>2997982“My father was one of the first to speak of bringing war to the Elves, and one could say that it may very well be his fault that your people lay broken because of him. This very manse was inspired by his admiration for them earlier in his life, but as his dealings with the Elves continued that admiration turned into jealously and eventually to bitter hatred. Some rumors say he began to hate them when he was spurned by an elven beauty he was courting after my mother died, while others say that those he dealt with backstabbed him for a great sum of money. Given his passionate nature for love and money both, in truth I could not guess whether either are true or false.”“Well, I am not my father and I never thought that the wholesale massacre and rape of an ancient nation was ample punishment for whatever crimes they were accused of. My conscience will not pay for the sins of my father, and so I deigned to save one of the few remaining Elves I could find.”Honeyed words, from a honeyed nobleman, you think ruefully. You know that if you mother were around, she’d thumb her nose at this nobleman without pity. His guilty conscience led him to buy one of your people in slav-Stop! You nearly shake your head for a moment before managing to calm yourself down, to blame a man for his father isn’t right. You’re certain there’s an old elf saying to go along with that, but perhaps it is better left in the flames of the capital along with your people now. What is important is to think about the future rather than the past, may it contain less bloodshed and misery.“But didn’t you buy me because you wanted me for yourself?” you ask with a measured tone after remembering his exact words at the slave market.Alexander changed his demeanor not too long ago when you stood up for yourself, maybe there is some value in paying attention to see if he does it again. At first you don’t see any real change, but as a tense second passes you notice one of his eyes twitches ever-so-slightly before he seems to tense up and reasserts his aura of warmth. “I must have simply been taken aback at your beauty, miss. Few men can be said to have ever been graced by the presence of an Elven woman.”Something is wrong here, you notice worriedly. When first you met, Alexander acted like a completely different person compared to the polite gentleman sitting before you.“At any rate, I intend to keep you with my family for the immediate future as my slave, though you won’t be treated as such. It is a dangerous time to be an Elf, and you’ll be like a part of my family moving forwards. You have no objection to the matter, I presume?”
>>2997984Nodding while lost in thought, your mind operates quickly to try and parse the strings of fate surrounding your situation. There absolutely has to be some ulterior motive to him keeping you here, whether that be marriage or political hostage or something else. You positively cannot accept that this nobleman would decide to buy your hefty asking price just to adopt you.Probing through your options, you decide to play it slow for the time being. “You’re not married, or connected to slavers are you?”Alexander raises an eyebrow and chuckles heartily, “Not that I take any offence, but if I wanted your hand in marriage or to sell you again would I have bothered to go through all this?”“I’ve seen as much in the pens; more individuals enjoy being cruel than they want to admit.”“Then don’t count me among them,” Alexander fires back with a disarming smile, “I said it before, my father and I share only blood and nothing more.”For some strange reason, you doubt that but you can’t exactly pinpoint why.“Well after this game, could I please take a bath? I don’t want to ruin your carpet any more than I already have.” As if to make your point, point a little droplet of water drips from your clothes and onto the fabric.“Consider it done,” Alexander says with a nod before returning his pocket watch and leaning forwards in his seat. “Now it’s your turn to answer questions, but don’t worry I don’t expect you to get them all at once.”“For starters…who are you?”>Name vote! Archery's as far martial as medieval women got. Particularly elvish twists to each of those are easily possible, like tree-weaving architecture or something stereotypical like that. Not sure about much about the QM's particular rendition of elves.A smaller title like >>2998021 would be good. I'll also suggest the possibility of being the daughter of some merchant family that aspired for the MC to gain nobility for them by marrying up, and therefore raised her like a noblewoman.

Alright vote called. Writing now. Name: MaraBackground: Minor Countess with a focus in subterfuge and other noblewomen skills.
“Mara. You can call me Mara.”Not wanting to spread anymore mud around the carpet, you simply bow your head respectfully and stick to a plausible cover story.“I was the daughter of a minor Count in the Elven Court; my father rose to his position through prodigious merchantry and my mother was wed to him from another similar family. When the war came to our doorstep, we were beset upon by a band of raiders before we could evacuate. My father was slaughtered on the spot alongside his guards while my mother and I were sold into slavery. I spent several months being transferred from slave pen to slave pen before ending up at the auction.”Alexander nods slowly, “I trust you’ve seen atrocities beyond your years. Hopefully the slave trade, profitable though it may be, may yet end in our lifetimes.”You raise your eyebrows in surprise, “And why exactly might that be?”Waving lazily with one hand, your new master simply purses his lips dramatically.Secrets are secrets for a reason, you suppose.“Anyways, I can match whatever a human in my position can do. Maybe even better.”You get nothing more than an amused nobleman gesturing you to elicit a little more information to work with which silently incenses you just a smidgen. “Embroidery, weaving, riding and archery; just things that other young noblewomen can do. Although I specialize in…subterfuge. You get the picture, socializing, sneaking, misdirection and fraternizing.”Although you try to bury the last one specifically by listing them all as fast as you can, the ever-perceptive Alexander smirks mischievously when it passes by.“No doubt. I’ve heard ghastly tales of how competitive the Elven Court was while it still stood, so I can hardly believe our fair ladies can hope to compete. In more ways than one, I bet.”You nearly shout back in flustered indignation before a knock on the wall behind your master catches your attention and before you know it, a thin but immaculate butler sporting the most exquisite spectacle slowly steps in and leans in to whisper in Alexander’s ear. Exchanging slow whispers, several moments pass before the butler bows deeply to both of you before disappearing out the door with such measured movements you nearly doubt the man was human.Sporting a distant look, Alexander spends some tentative seconds lost in thought before lighting up his trademark smile and shrugs his shoulders playfully. “The problem with being the linchpin of an empire I suppose. I can’t ignore it for too long or it all starts to fall apart. Still, I feel like I should ask you my last question if only to sate my curiosity.”Suddenly staring intently, once again holding your gaze captive, Alexander Macklind seems to see right through you as he recites his final question.
>>2998740“What is your dream? Not that I expect you to have a complete answer right now, but if you could have anything in this world what would it be?”>Revenge. Thinking carefully, you consider the various events that have happened in your life before beginning to speak slowly. When the words leave your mouth, each syllable is guided by nothing short of absolute conviction.“To rule. I want to unite this world into a great Empire and end the divisions that separate all peoples. Under my rule, I would see to it that nothing like what happened to my people will ever be forgotten, nor happen again. I owe the fallen that much, at least.” Alexander nods sagely, dropping his usual toothy grin out of respect for the iron will layered in your words. “Ambitious, are we? Well, humor me just a little further then. Would you forsake vengeance against those who have wronged you if that were the final obstacle stopping you from achieving your dream?”Taken by surprise at the mention of revenge, you stay perfectly silent as the thought enters your mind for the first time and emotions and memories rush forth together. Until now you’d never entertained the possibility of vengeance, but if it were within your grasp…Clenching a fist against your side, you nearly grit your teeth thinking of the horrible injustices done to your fallen people. The slaughter, the plunder, the wholesale destruction and slavery of your Kingdom all to satisfy the brutal urges of others. Red hot fury seems to pulse from a primal urge in your heart and for a few moments all you can think of is wholesale retribution. Nothing would make you happier than putting every single guilty soldier on a cross, to laugh at their dying screams for what they have done.At least until you manage to calm yourself down and think hard about why Alexander asked you this question in the first place. As you meet his eyes once more, full of understanding, he continues on with the stoic expression of a philosopher of old.“Revenge may burn bright in your heart, but there it should remain until at last it fades. Punishment for its own sake helps nobody, the vengeful least of all. If you want to chase your dream, understand that the road to success demands sacrifice of every kind.”Nodding shamefully, you elicit a sharp chuckle from the nobleman that snaps your attention back to his now smiling face.“That does not mean you should forgive everyone, Mara! Only that there is a time and a place for every kind of action, and that you would do well to identify when and where they belong. But that is enough from me, it is getting late and I suppose you should prepare for bed.”Entering the room as if on cue, the bespectacled butler seems to sail across the dining room on his limber feet and stands at attention directly next to you before you can blink twice.“Cato here will lead you to your bath, and I’ve made arrangements for your clothing and other pleasantries. Tomorrow, we’ll work out what you want to do from here on out.”
>>3000015Bowing deeply, you give your new master a heartfelt smile that seems to elicit a strange, distant expression on his face that gives you that same strange feeling from before. Moments later, he seems to return to his senses before gesturing you away with an exasperated grin.Shaking off your sudden unease, you wipe your feet with your now-sodden towel and follow Cato deeper into the mansion, dripping tiny droplets of water all the way. Too lost in thought to really pay attention to your surroundings, you briefly scan the corridors filled with priceless jewelry, regalia, and trophies that seem typical of the dwellings of noble humans. Before you know it, you are gently ushered into a sparkling bathroom where a steaming bath of clear water awaits next to several fresh towels, some exotic soaps, and some neatly folded sleepwear. As soon as Cato diligently closes the door, you strip off your rags and slowly lower yourself into the tub. Laying your head back on metal, careful not to doze off, you think long and hard about the miserable line of events that brought you to this very moment and what you can learn going over them once more.>Choose one particular scene to remember!>The Declaration of War >The Massacre at the Palace>Prisoner in the Pens----------------------->>2999882If any do indeed remain, doubtless they are held in captivity and put to work in fields, mines, or other noble households.

There are no whispered rumours from new catches here. You remember a young magician's apprentice who was far too clever and constantly frayed her master's composure. Despite her role she had a strange disposition to roguish behavior that her grandfather could never bring himself to correct. Her quick thinking caused the invaders to mistake her for you and saved you from an even worse fate. News had later spread of her escape where her guards were found tied together with their weapons in a compromising position. The laughter of your fellow prisoners as the news spread throughout was swiftly punished but worth it for even a single distraction from the dreariness of reality..I feel like I should be more vague? Your mind drifts slowly back to the cramped corners of your steel cage, remembering those sleepless nights filled with the screams of the living, the moans of the dying, and the rotting stench of the dead. Those months you spent at Camp Kafigen.-------------------You’d arrived after a long journey blindfolded in the dark, riding in a crude wooden wagon through forest, desert, and tundra amidst the rough cursing and cajoling of slavers of every race. Replaying the fresh scenes of those horrible massacres in the Capitol, you’d seemingly run out of tears sobbing silently the entire way so when the wagon opened for the first time and the blindfolds wrenched off your head nothing could have felt better stepping out onto solid ground again.Until you found your feet sink deep into wet, thick mud that seemed to wrap around your toes as if devouring you into the earth. Pushed ferociously from behind, you accepted the loss of your shoes as you stumbled forwards wrenching your feet step by step between two rows of armed, sneering guards. Before you knew it, a final, furious shove launched you like a rag-doll into an iron cage only barely large enough to fit you. Wincing in pain, you didn’t even have time to haul yourself up before a gargantuan orc slams the cage shut behind you with a guttural laugh. Shaking your head, you notice a human male dressed in nothing but expensive furs and gaudy jewelry slowly walk up to your own cage flanked by two walking nightmares you remember from the massacre. A hulking, scarred orc with an enormous, rusting cleaver strapped firmly against himself and a one-armed, slavering gnoll with his claws outstretched rigidly. Simply seeing them again sends a wave of fear into you as you remember all too perfectly the bloody atrocities they committed with berserk glee.Kneeling, the human meets your eyes with an inquisitive expression on his handsome features before pointing an accusing finger at you. “That supposed to be her? You’re certain?” he shouts out loudly to his companions. An irritated grunt followed by a powerful stomp that kicks up mud.“Yes. Me and Cracked-Tooth found chief family first. Chief and guards tried to fight back, killed them quickly. Took the rest.”A sharp yowl from the gnoll seems to signify agreement, yet it is completely ignored by both orc and human who continue to whisper to each other.Reaching into your cage, you shiver uncontrollably as the human gropes your upper torso with brutish efficiency, stopping quickly as soon as his thick fingers wrap themselves around your mother’s necklace. Tearing it off your head with overwhelming force, you nearly try think about wrenching it back before remembering the futility of it all. You resign yourself simply to sobbing quietly in the corner of your cage as the human inspects your mother’s necklace, a widening smile appearing on his face.
>>3001103“Well done, then boys.” Whistling to catch the attention of several other armed guards, two hefty bags filed with coin are delivered into the waiting arms of the impatient warlords. The human pats the two of them on their broad shoulders heartily before marching off into the distance escorted by a small platoon of guards. The Orc and Gnoll exchange respectful nods before they too stomp off through the mud back to the slaver caravan you’d been traveling in.A long time passes before you’re finally able to stop crying, by then night has fallen in the fly-ridden, muddy camp and with nothing left to do you simply lay on the tiny bundle of hay serving as your bedroll and think.“Pzzt, hey over here!” whispers a desperate voice nearby, jolting you out of your stupor as you whirl around to face the speaker. Huddled against a nearby cage you see a disheveled elven boy, not too much bigger than you, staring intently with something approximating optimism on his face.“Welcome to Camp Kafigen, Princess,” he whispers to you positively beaming with energy, “I can’t say that I’ve seen much to raise my mood here, but damn if you aren’t a welcome sight.”You just shake your head dejectedly, “I am no Princess, at least not any longer. My birthright died alongside our country, brother. I don’t see how my presence here could bring you any joy, I’m afraid.”Gesturing for you to keep quiet with hand, he goes about retrieving a tiny metal pin from under his hay before quickly fixing about the lock on his cage with frightening speed. Afraid to attract any attention to his work, you place a hand over your mouth to stifle your initial yelp of surprise before waiting for him to finish. After hearing the satisfying clicking of a lock undone, the boy grins madly before tossing the tiny pin through the bars of your own cage. Stretching his legs in anticipation, he seems to remember something important before crouching down low and peering through the edges of his cage to get a glimpse of what you presume must be any stray guards. Turning to you with desperate eyes, you under the situation right away and peek through the bars at the blind spots he wouldn’t be able to see before giving him a tenuous thumbs-up.Finally convinced, the boy ever-so-carefully creeps out of his cage, paying special attention to his surroundings before kneeling quickly in front of your own. Silently handing him his pin, he gets to work with the utmost care before whispering loud enough only you can hear, “Don’t worry, Princess. I’ll have you out of here before you know it.”Putting your fingers around your end of the lock nervously, you inadvertently rub them on a series of letters that catches your attention. Carefully checking the inscription again, you hang your head low and try not to fold your hands into your face.

“Brother, this is a Ridgewell lock. We used to use them ourselves back in the Palace, they’re almost impossible to crack open. You need to quit before you break the lock.”Ignoring you straight to your face, the boy simply narrows his eyebrows further, little droplets of sweat appearing as he doubles his efforts testing every nook and cranny of the lock without success.“Please listen to me! Even if you got me out we’d be hunted down by every slaver this side of the world. You’re just risking the lives of every other prisoner fiddling with that lock, just leave me behind and get out of here already.”The boy doesn’t respond, his face settling into a determined, gaunt grimace as you see him trying every single trick he knows to trick the Ridgewell. Knowing he won’t listen to reason now, you crawl to the bars of your cage and grab his lockpicking hand before clasping it firmly as he stiffens up in shock. Staring at his face until he reluctantly matches your gaze, you rub his hand gently and give him a soft smile.“I’ll be fine, brother. You should worry about yourself and get as far away from here as you can. The Kingdom lies in ruins, but as long as some of our people survive the Elves yet live.”A tear appears on his face, making it’s sad arc down his filthy, blackened face as he begins to sob, “I-I can’t leave you here! I heard the guards talking about you last night, they were saying how their boss was going to just sell you without mentioning how you were the princess or anything. Talking about how they needed to keep this low-key because if the King found out they’d be hunted down for not turning you in.”“Who knows who’ll buy you! I’ve already seen some of the guards taking the women out to…”Wiping his tear away with one of your palms, you close your eyes and nod before leaning in to give him a crude approximation of a hug given the muddy steel separating the two of you. After a brief moment, you pick up his pin and carefully smash it into the Ridgewell until a visible edge develops on the point. Lowering your head, you cut off a lock of your hair and hand it to the boy who accepts it slowly, as if awed.“A gift so that you don’t forget me. Now you need to escape soon before somebody finds out you’ve broken free,” you whisper as you place the sharpened pin into his hand, “Whatever happens, happens. I’ve already accepted my fate, now help me by keeping the memory of our people alive.”Shutting his eyes and taking a deep breath, the boy nods and a look of fierce determination burns on his face like fresh flame. “I will, your highness. They won’t catch me, that’s a promise.”Bowing, he stands back up and takes a few more breaths before giving you one of his wild smiles. “The name is Grastienn, and I swear to you that one day we’ll meet again.” Flashing back a warm smile, you watch as he skulks away into the night like a shadow.“Don’t make promises you can't keep, Grastienn..."-----------
>>3002773----------Blinking slowly and rousing yourself from your position against the tub, you wonder if Grastienn is still alive today. The day after he escaped, the guards doubled up on security and there were daily beatings for every prisoner to discourage any thoughts of escape. But even as you crawled back into your cage covered in bruises and blood, the knowledge that at least one Elf could be living free made the living hell of Camp Kafigen that much easier to bear. What will you do if you ever see him again? Not that it’s likely you will, considering the law of the land outlaws any of your people to live free but the possibility remains.Bah, you’ve had long enough to think about the past. Scrubbing and lathering, you quickly clean yourself into the spitting image of an Elven princess before drying yourself with a towel and slipping into the silken nightgown and slippers set for you. Peeking into the hallway left and right, you don’t find Cato the butler or anybody else for that matter. Finding an open doorway not too far away, you wander in and find a fully-furnished bedroom complete with shelves of neatly organized books, many of which seem to have little wear on their gilded backing.Tilting your head sideways and reading through titles, you find a few books that catch your interest immediately. Pulling them out and onto a nearby nightstand, you feel that it couldn’t hurt to spend an hour or two reading to improve yourself going forward.>”A Legacy of War.”>”The Primacy of Coin.”>”Cloaks without Daggers: Surviving the Court.”

Ooooookay up again! Calling for Cloaks without Daggers! Writing now!
You set aside the other two books and pick out “Cloaks without Daggers”, a political treatise on human politics written by Arthur C. Paxton, evidently a famous human diplomat with decades of experience living amongst the most elite political institutions around.Perusing the first chapter, you learn about the convoluted history of human politics and the basic theory behind the use of scandal, murder, and political alliances that will plague the Court. Although you find it difficult to digest, you feel that with your background in the Elven Court that you won’t find yourself out of your depth if push comes to shove.Slipping in a fabric bookmark lying on a nearby shelf, you crawl into bed and drape sheets of stain over yourself before resting against a soft pillow. Before you know it, sleep takes you and the world ceases to exist being replaced instead by the overwhelming warmth of a good night’s sleep.----------A loud knock on the door startles you back to wakefulness from your slumber, and forces a short groan from you as you force your eyes back open. Blinking slowly, you stumble out of bed and force open the shuttered windows to reveal the brilliant light of morning beaming through. Shielding your sensitive eyes for a moment, you listen to the calming sound of birds chirping among each other before taking a good look outside at the endless acres of green grass spread in every direction leading to dense forests surrounding the estate. Old Man Macklind was definitely obsessed with Elves in his time, you decide bemusedly to yourself before a sudden second knock nearly makes you jump in shock.“Miss Mara, are you awake?” declares the gravelly baritone of who you assume to be Cato the Butler before knocking a third time for good measure.Coughing to revive your voice, you reply steadily. “Yes,Cato. Thank you for waking me up.”“Very good. Master Macklind is waiting for you in the dining room with breakfast, shall I accompany you there?”Rubbing your eyes one last time, you run your hands over your face and immediately decide against it.“That won’t be necessary, I’ll be down shortly.”Tapping his foot audibly, Cato makes a swishing sound turning around before adding, “Very well. Act with haste, the food will get cold eventually.”Waiting quietly for a few moments for him to clear the hallway, you quickly open the wardrobe in the room and uncover a veritable treasure trove of clothing all specified for your use. After a few moments of complete awe, your mind rapidly gets back on track and you pick out a simple dress and slippers before rushing out of the bedroom and into the bathroom in seconds flat.Best to give a good impression by arriving earlier than expected, you figure.
>>3005251Changing in and out in under a minute, you think about running the whole way back but figure that doing so wouldn’t necessarily be the best look.Moderating your pace to a quick stroll, you notice something that immediately catches your attention as you pass by the corridors of the manse. Turning your head, you find an ancient wooden door with a mystifying carving of a kind of serpent surrounded by weapons of all kinds rising out of the ocean. Looking at the distinctly serpentine door knob, you see some familiar initials inscribed around the keyhole that dampen your mood significantly.[RGW]Why your new master’s study would ever need a Ridgewell installed eludes you, but after looking around something else stands out even more. Inscribed onto the serpent on the door are words in Old Elvish, a language that you’d studied at home but was of sufficient complexity that it was considered needlessly archaic even to your tutor. Squinting your eyes together, you try to make out the words but it seems as if some of them have been worn down over the years somehow. Regardless, you give it your best shot.>Roll 1d100 best of three for translation!

You stare at the words intensely, trying your absolute best to make out what it could possibly mean. Unfortunately, however, it clearly isn’t enough as the draconian rules of Old Elvish grammar form a corrupt alliance with the already difficult to read letters culminating in you ending up multiple possible sentences with a wide array of different words in your final translation.Several constants appear, however, giving you a tiny fragment of what the sentence actually contains. From what you can gather, at least part of the inscription appears to be some kind of ancient saying likening shedding one’s soul to the molting that snakes do. Although you don’t have the whole picture, you at least have something to work with. It must have something to do with the history of House Macklind, if you would have to guess although any possibility of what it may be eludes you completely.Perhaps if you can find some resources on Old Elvish you could come back and give it another go to figure out the whole thing, but at the moment you’ve a nobleman waiting for you at breakfast.Running your fingers against the lettering for a brief moment, you turn on your heel and continue striding down the hall back to the dining room. Arriving at the door a short time later, you pause before entering, thinking of how you might ask your master of the inscription on the door but immediately you decide against it. You doubt you’d get any answers considering the personal nature of the subject, and it wouldn’t be a good look to be researching into the family of the man who technically owns you.Brushing your thoughts about the locked door aside, you knock once before opening the door to the dining room where you are instantly greeted by a sizable feast of human breakfast foods laid before your master, casually relaxing against his favorite chair at the opposite end of the table dressed as immaculately as before.“Glad you could make it to breakfast, Mara,” Alexander declares with his usual amused drawl, “The two of us have some business and a sizable amount of hot food to take care of this morning so take a seat if you please and we’ll get right to it.”Bowing respectfully, you slide into your chair quickly and begin tearing your way through breakfast by virtue of being both nervous and hungry. After a few minutes of hard work, you dab your mouth with a nearby handkerchief and make eye contact with Alexander, who appears ready and waiting. Breaking the silence with a warm smile, you feel his strange piercing stare return despite the friendly expression as he begins to speak.“Now that you’ve had a little time to think about it, do you still believe that working towards a crown is what you really want? Not that your other choices are much easier, but everyone needs a dream.”

>>3006593>My memory is not so fleeting that the plight of my people is something I would forget after a hot meal and some warm clothes dyed with their blood. If there is some way that I am able to help them then I shall. In my opinion it is a very simple dream. The true complexity is in achieving it.>As for revenge, I thirst for it more than a dryad dying of thirst as an oasis lies before her, but it will not save those who remain. I can think of it some other time when it is more prudent.
>>3006595>Thoughts of your people, scattered and broken, are what bother you the most. They will rally under you if you can find them, together perhaps an Elven state shall be born once againAgain with this? We are nation builders for tge elfs not some sthpid revenge doofus
>>3006635Also this is good
>>3006595>>Thoughts of your people, scattered and broken, are what bother you the most. They will rally under you if you can find them, together perhaps an Elven state shall be born once again.and the second part of this>>3006635
>>3006595>Thoughts of your people, scattered and broken, are what bother you the most. They will rally under you if you can find them, together perhaps an Elven state shall be born once again.
Okay going to pass out bad now. Will call vote and write when I somehow get back up, that will be announced.
>>3006595>>You are destined to rule an Empire. It’s only a matter of time, and for an Elf like you, patience comes naturally.>>3006814why did you decide to have a 'are you sure' type of vote? to people who won the first time around, it'll seem that their choice was discarded with no seeming repercussions, and everyone has no guarantee that you won't just hold a third vote on the same topic at a later date.
>>3008432You're absolutely right. Truth is that I'm getting squeezed by IRL obligations and I felt like I had to throw out a vote because I didn't have anything else planned.I keep trying to pretend I actually have time to work with when I really don't and get interrupted most every time I want to get anything done here. The fact that I only now realize that doing a second call was retarded is testament to how little I honestly thought ahead and I'm sorry for that.I'm starting to feel like I should just take a little break for a few days to things in order again.
>>3008432Maybe it's more like the NPC is asking are you sure. This isn't about our personal decision as much it is what we tell Alexander. He's clearly up to something, has ancient elvish runes on his door, and has a decent chance of already knowing that we are really the princess as part of some plot to smuggle us past the (human?) King's notice.TLDR this isn't about our personal decision as much as it's about how Alexander is going to try and manipulate us into whatever it is he wants.
>>3008994Is also correct in that this was more an answer to Alexander's question (since he was determined to ask you again) than a personal determination as that can change.
>>3009011Since we did read that book last night I can actually feel comfortable in pointing this out without being too meta, but it also serves as an indicator to him of how easily his "advice" can change your mind.He wants to see what he can manipulate us with, and how quickly we adjust our opinion according to what he is saying. If he knows we are the princess then he is possibly trying to groom a puppet ruler out of whatever rebuilds itself. Crush most civilizations/states and after 20 years you can essentially rewrite history. The children will not know better and the elders know better than to speak. Try the same to elves and you have to try to do that for longer than you can possibly live before anyone who can say otherwise is completely gone. Letting them rebuild to be under his thumb on the other hand will ensure the prosperity of his line for centuries and add a new element of revenge as they would all be beneath him.
>>3009455I like how you work, anon!Alright, I might call a hiatus right here and now rather than making it look like I'm going to deliver anytime soon. Going to take a few days off to take care of some serious business and to plan better going forward. What are your thoughts on keeping this thread around or just archiving right now and making a new thread when I come back?
>>3009838It's up to you really
>>3009838Anything is fine. The writing itself is solid when it comes in my opinion even if its not as action packed or lewd as other quests.
>Sold by slavers to a stranger, the young princess of a broken people finds herself delivered to an extraordinary stranger.Oof I should have proofread that a lot harder.Either way, new thread going up tomorrow!
