Your name is Katsuo Tatsukuma, and today, you're going to leave Konohagakure for the very first time. Not only that, but you're going to leave the Land of Fire entirely. Even though you failed to earn your C-Rank mission, Obito Sensei decided that your team needed a vacation to recuperate and train, and decided a trip to the Yugakure in the Land of Hot Water would be the best plan. Yugakure used to be a Shinobi Village nearly on par with the Five Great Villages and one of Konoha's most loyal allies, but after it was devastated in the fighting of the Third Shinobi War, it transitioned away from external conflicts and Shinobi missions, instead shifting towards building up heavy tourism around the many hot springs offered by the village. Prided as the village that has forgotten wars, it seems the perfect place to relax, enjoy yourself, and train as hard as you possibly can.

You didn't sleep too well last night, unfortunately. You made it home pretty late, and although you passed out pretty much immediately upon getting in bed due to the strenuous tree climbing, you didn't get much time before your alarm was blaring, waking you up.

You let out a tired groan, but upon remembering what your plans for today are, you jolt upright. You definitely don't want to miss out on this! You quickly go about your morning routine, and as soon as you're dressed, you dash downstairs, ready to run out the door, only to be stopped in your tracks as your mother steps out in front of you.

"Where exactly do you think you're going?" She says, judging by the tone of her voice, and the fact that she's glaring daggers directly at you, you can guess she isn't too pleased.

"Uh, well..." You rub the back of your head sheepishly, "Obito Sensei has a trip for us. We're going to the Land of Hot Water."

"Not without eating breakfast first you aren't. You came home way too late last night, young man! Just because you're a genin now doesn't mean you can just run around and do as you please!"

You hear your dad laughing from the other room. "Go easy on him Shizune! I'm sure he had a good reason."

She turns, yelling at the other room, "Don't you start too!"

You nod, "Sorry mom..." you mumble sheepishly, as you walk towards the dining room. You're fairly surprised to see not just your father sat at the dining table, but also your older sister. Usually Kiyoko's duties with ANBU keep her way too busy to eat breakfast with you, but as you sit down, she reaches over, ruffling your hair. "How're you doing, little bro?" she asks teasingly. Despite only being a bit over a year older than you, she's always been something of a natural prodigy. She graduated the Academy several years early, and had a fairly quick rise, spending only a short amount of time as a genin before passing her Chunin Exams, and then being offered a position on ANBU not long after. You remember how proud your parents were of her.

"I'm fine." You say, smacking your sister's hand away from you as you start to eat. You're pretty happy you did, to be honest. It's better than having to start travelling on an empty stomach. At least this way you'll have plenty of energy.

Your mother sits down next you, and looks at you, clearly a bit annoyed. "How was your stay at the hospital Katsuo?"

You let out a sigh. "I wasn't even that hurt..."

She gives you a stern glare. "Next time you get yourself hurt and have to stay overnight in a hospital, I want you to come straight home as soon as you're out, understand me?"

You nod. She's being a real pain right now, but she was probably worried sick about you. "Sorry, mom." You mumble.

Then, a thought occurs to you. "I met Lady Tsunade." You mention.

Shizune blinks. "Really? I didn't even know she was in Konoha now."

"She's one of my teammate's aunt. She came to visit Mariko while I was checking up on her."

"Ooh, you were checking up on Mariko?" Your sister teases you.

You blush slightly, and shake your head. "It's not like that. She got hurt because of me, I needed to make sure she was alright."

Your dad rubs his chin, "Lady Tsunade returning to Konoha. Now that's very interesting. You know, if it wasn't for her, me and your mother would never have met. In fact, I might not even be here right now."

Your mom looks over to you, "Ah... did she tell you about me and her?"

You nod, and your mom lets out a sigh. "She probably made it sound like some massive thing. It nearly was, actually. I served as her assistant and student for about a year. I would have left Konoha and served her full time, but I met your father, and he convinced me to stay here and be with him."

You think back to your meeting with the legendary sannin. If there was one way to describe her, unexpected would likely be one of the easiest words.

While we're early enough in, I was thinking gearing Katsuo as a quick assasination type character skill wise. What with his advanced genjutsu and buidling up his taijutsu, working with what we've got it'd be a good idea to learn more genjutsu that can be used in combinations and quick successions. See thing is, everyone was thinking about how to deal with actual combat, and that is an issue that we'll have a problem with till we build up on our tai and ninjutsu, but genjutsu is at it's strongest when you can plan and use it ahead of time. Taking down opponents before they even realize we're there, or setting them in traps they don't even know they need to escape from is where genjutsu shines the brightest. I'm thinking focusing on learning more advanced illusion genjutsu, a paralysis jutsu, a sleep jutsu, a basic "flashbang" sight overload, and some other stuff early in, really cram our minds when our body needs rest. That plus apparently things like trap making and kunaiplay are actually considered part of ninjutsu in Naruto, as it's part of the art of the ninja, it's just that the show itself focuses more on the flashy, chakra using ninjutsu.
Learning our nature is also a must so we know what we'll have the easiest time working with, also personally having elemental clones will be really useful and give our strategies a lot more to work with if we learn it.
On a final note, clearing out our taijutsu weakness early on is clearly what the majority wants, but we were discussing weapons last thread to help give us a better chance in a battle and give us more offense in a straight fight and while some argued that losing the weapon can put us at a disadvantage, it'll still ultimately make us a tougher, deadlier opponent to face against, especially if our opponent is unarmed. Plus, the point was more to shore up our main weakness anyway, so it's meant to more be a buffer if we get into a straight fight, which we shouldn't try to be in to begin with. As a ninja getting in straight fights should be last case scenario, cheesing and taking advantage with sneak attacks, guerrilla warfare, traps, and war of attrition are all on the table and should be abused when dealing with enemies.
I was partial to the gauntlet claws since the added protection and the slashing would be useful.
I'm also not against a straight sword breaker baton of some kind, both for blocking blades and to bash heads with.
A chain sickle is a classic ninja weapon though not my favorite choice.
We could also just get a straight, one sided sword/small blade like a tanto and even use minor genjutsu to reflect the blade and make it hard to follow and anticipate. like Kosuke could do with his genjutsu, leaf style willow. Simple, but a good enough technique to give a full chunnin a hard time and die from. We could even learn some stuff straight from him if we asked.
>>
>>2999509
I still think we should learn to play an instrument to help us with stronger sound based genjutsu plus we could easy go undercover as a wandering bard for assassination missions. Though we should also learn how to use a tanto for up close combat.
>>
>>2999518
I could go with a lute, plus some bells and maybe a whistle, each for emergencies. Never know when you might need it. Plus I agree that learning to better use sound based genjutsu through learning about different levels of sound and vibrations through music. Would be learning to skills at once, two birds with one stone. It's not the only type of genjutsu I want to learn but I definitely want to learn it, plus all the other types for amazing combos way down the line.

A shamisen sounds cool. What if we made custom kunai bachi (the piece you use to play the shamisen with) so that it can be used a custom blade we can channel chakra into and to play the shamisen with.

If we had wind or lightning nature, we could also make nin genjutsu that uses both the vibrations and sounds to both hit the enemy's senses and body, like if we hit them with a force of sound or a blades of wind stemming from the instrument, while paralysing them with genjutsu based on the sounds of the shamisen, for an instant 1 2 hit combo. Being able to use both forms of jutsu at once to control the fight and screw with enemies at the same time midbattle would make us a strong contender, and make katsuo svary as hell in an ambush. Of course all of that is meangingkess till we figure out our nature and what we can work with best. Plus actually learning how to play an instrument and apply chakra to it. Learning medical jutsu from mom shizune would help with that, considering the high control required to perform it.
>>
What about the shakuhachi flute? It was actually used by spies and shit historically.
>>

We could do that, maybe even make it a blowdart too for sneaky knockouts. I'm still leaning towards the shamisen guitar though

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes! I am now awake and ready to continue. I appreciate all of your patience.

"Well..." you scratch the side of your face, thinking back on all the stories of the legendary sannin you've heard. "Is it true, all the stuff they say about her? Is she really that powerful?"

Your mother nods, "Back in their day, the Sannin were considered by many to be the greatest ninja in the world. They nearly single-handedly won the Second Shinobi World War for Konoha. Tsunade revolutionized our entire system and the way we think about medical-ninjutsu. She's a genius in terms of being a shinobi, she's just occasionally lacking in self control and common sense." She lets out a sigh, and you wonder exactly how out there could she really be? She didn't seem too bad when you spoke with her, but both your mom and Mariko seem somewhat exasperated with her, even just from speaking about her.

"Could you teach me some techniques?" You ask. She had your interest at this point, knowing your mother was taught by one of the legendary sannin was one thing, but hearing just how powerful and impressive her techniques were, you definitely want to learn some of these things.

She pauses, pursing her lips. "Maybe. If you want, when you return from your trip, I will teach you what I know of medical ninjutsu, but there are some things I wouldn't really be able to teach you, as well as some things I wouldn't want to teach you."

You nod, a little disappointed. Of course, it wasn't like your mother would immediately teach you some forbidden jutsu, but... you could have hoped for something special at least, right?

Before you can say anything more, your dad interjects, "Oh, speaking of your trip, shouldn't you head out soon, Katsuo? You wouldn't wanna miss it."

https://youtu.be/We60ZX5C99I

You blink, and look up to the clock. Oh crap, it's already nearly time to meet. It's a half-hour walk towards the meeting spot normally, and it's fifteen minutes until you meet your team!

You quickly stand, "I gotta go!" You say, drawing glares from your mom. "Sorry!" You say, leaning down to give your mother a hug. You can hear your sister laughing at you as you panic, rushing out the door, and then rushing back in upon realizing you almost forgot your forhead protector.

By the time you've stepped out the door, you're running down the streets, you don't want to be late. Of course, if you have something you need to grab or do before you leave the village, this is your last chance, since it'll be at least a few days before you get back.

It's not like they'd leave without you, right?

You run as hard and fast as you can, desperately trying to get to the meeting place on time. You hate being late, especially to a meeting as important as this one. Just before the first time you're ever going to actually leave the village... it's a pretty big deal. You don't have time to mess around and go shopping right now. How could you focus on anything at a time like this? Your mind is racing with the possibilities for what might happen during this trip.

You take every shortcut you know that exists to get you closer to the meeting place near the front gates before you're late, but in the end you're still the last member of your team to arrive. Well, except for the leader. As you arrive, you see Mariko and Jun standing around, but no Obito.

You approach, waving at your team. "Good morning everyone! Where's Obito Sensei?" You ask, looking between the two of them.

Mariko puts a hand on her hip and lets out an exasperated sigh. "Where do you think? He's late, again. Of course"

Jun shuffles nervously, "Maybe he's trying to teach us a lesson about patience?"

Mariko scoffs, "He probably just completely lost track of time and he's at Ichiraku Ramen or something like that. Don't have such high standards for a slacker like him."

Jun nods, clearly not wanting to disagree with Mariko. The Senju heiress, meanwhile, sits and starts to wait for Obito, clearly agitated. Seeing nothing else to do, you and Jun quickly join her in waiting...

After several hours of waiting, you're starting to doze off just from the mind numbing boredom. Jun hasn't moved in at least an hour, and Mariko fell asleep after like ten minutes.

Obito's arrival jolts you all back awake. "Sorry I was late everyone!" He shouts. Despite being fast asleep mere moments ago, Mariko is the first up to her feet, charging angrily towards Obito.

"You made us wait forever! Whats your problem!?" She angrily demands. Obito immediately recoils from the furious twelve year old girl shouting in his face.

"Sorry, sorry. I lost track of time, and I was sorting something out. You see, your aunt approached me, and she had the best idea. She'll be joining us on the trip to Yugakure!" Obito announces proudly, as Tsunade makes a dramatic entrance from behind him.

"Seriously?! No!" Mariko cries, "Anyone but the old lady!"

Jun blinks. "The Legendary Kunoichi Tsunade? Kurenai talks about her all the time..."

Tsunade shoots a powerful glare at Mariko, and then waves to you and Jun, approaching you. "Good to see you again, Katsuo!" She turns to Jun, "And you must be Jun, nice to meet you both. I'm sure you boys don't mind me tagging along, do you?" She says, giggling.

Based on Jun's face, the Fire Temple didn't have women like Tsunade either.

You bow your head respectfully, "I-It is an honor, Lady Tsunade." You say, trying to sound as formal and polite as possible. It only seems fitting being around and talking to someone like her. It does come out pretty awkward, but you're just happy you managed to form a complete sentence and didn't screw up your words too badly.

She snorts, "I like this one. He's way more polite than you, y'know." She says, turning to glare at Mariko, who sticks her tongue out back at the Sannin. Those two sure are weird with one another.

Obito speaks up, looking between all of you. "We should probably head out, we already wasted a few hours."

"Who's fault was that, Sensei?" Jun pipes up, Obito shooting him a glare.

"Oh, wait!" Tsunade says, pulling a small, handheld camera out of her robe, from between her cleavage. "It's traditional, before a Team's first real mission that they get a photo taken together. Obito said you hadn't done that yet, right? I'll take it for you!"

https://youtu.be/LhTLFoQMwA0

Obito grins widely, "Oh, thanks so much, Lady Tsunade!" He quickly huddles the three of you around him, with Mariko, the shortest in front, and you and Jun on either side, with Obito standing behind the three of you, ruffling you and Jun's hair. You're really not sure what to do, so you just try to force a smile and not look too weird while Tsunade takes your photo.

Once the picture is taken, Tsunade hands the photograph that's printed out to Obito, who tucks it into a pocket. "I'll get copies of this made and framed, and sent to you guys, okay? For now though, we should head out. Are you all ready?"

"Yeah!" Mariko cheers.

"I believe so." Jun nods.

You're a bit surprised to hesitate for a moment. You've waited for this for so long, but you can't help but feel a bit nervous as you nod at your sensei. "Let's go."

Obito turns, "Alright then, Team 9! We're now beginning our path to the Land of Waves!" He shouts, dramatically posing before starting to march towards the front gate. You, your squadmates and Tsunade follow along behind him. The guards at the front gates nod to Obito as they see you approach, and open the gates for you, allowing you to step out into the dense forests outside Konoha's walls. There's a single large road leading north, which Obito begins to walk down.

"This is the road towards the Land of Hot Water, and the Land of Sound, our allies to the north." Tsunade explains as you walk. "Further north and to the east, is the Land of Lightning and Kumogakure, to the west and north, the Land of Earth and Iwagakure. They both have borders pretty close to the Land of Hot Water and the Land of Sound, but the Land of Sound have elite shinobi, and the Land of Hot Water have developed prosperous trade deals to protect them. It should be safe to travel, as long as we don't go too far north."

As you travel through the forests, silence soon falls over your team. Obito and Tsunade step forward, the two adults having a conversation that's just too quiet for you to listen to from your current pace. You'd have to speed up and get closer to listen in, or make a specific effort. Meanwhile, Mariko is walking a good distance away from her aunt, shooting a glare at her, while Jun is trudging behind her, pretty much staring at her. He's definitely into her alright, she's just barely noticed he exists

It seems odd to me that a Sannin would just join us on a vacation trip out of nowhere. She could have just as easily made the trip by herself at any other time. Maybe it's nothing, but then again, it could be something important.

>>
>>3012655
Oh that one is old. Didn't remember the qms name. Usually it's lnq or bort quest that these take after.
>>
>>3012660
The only ones that didn't really take after Leaf Ninja or Bort were Konoha Clan and Jounin Quest desu.
>>
>>3012666
Jounin quest was definitely popular long after it died alright. I still see Konoha clan quest still having a good amount of players if moon came back here to finish up the quest, but it doesn't look like he wants to run on /qst/ anymore so that ship is sailed. At least he wrote an epilogue, that's more than most naruto quests ever get.
>>
>>3012695
He wrote an epilogue? I didn't know that. I went to akun to see what he was doing nowadays and... yeah.

>Inb4 we have our own timeskip traveling as Tsunade's assistant and it's just years of torture living alongside hot older woman
would that be hell or heaven for Katsuo?
In all seriousness, I'd be really cool if we ended up being her assistant/apprentice like Shizune was, or at least was supposed to be in this version of the setting, with the super strength and healing, being able to buff up all of our skills because she's an s-class shinobi and one of the sannin, and combining those skills with specialties of our own like the advanced genjutsu anons have brainstormed would make Katsuo both a really useful ninja in any situation and really deadly. Still way too early to think about it seriously though, for all we know we end up going in a completely different direction.
>>
>>3012792
>Inb4 we have our own timeskip traveling as Tsunade's assistant and it's just years of torture living alongside hot older woman
Hiruzen would be a better teacher desu. Even if it's been done before. Maybe Itachi, if he's not a total cunt like Sasuke. Even if that's been done before...

Oh! I know, how about Shisui?
>>
Yeah, Shisui is the best teacher for us.

Change my mind.
>>
>>3012815
Orochimaru. Change my mind.
>>
>>3012829
He's not loyal to Konoha.

Also Shisui is the toppest-tier genjutsu boi and a speedyboi to boot.

When're we going to learn our chakra nature?
>>
>>3012795
Wait hold up, Itachi's been a teacher before? What quest?
Also, I'd probably be for either Tsunade or Hiruzen but Tsunade would be more realistic considering she prefers traveling and is very pro "teaching medical jutsu for the sake of improving survival rates within the village's ninja on missions".
>>3012829
He's a pedosnek
>>3012815
We've never met him and likely never will, he'd have no reason to, the Uchiha clan as a whole likely would never agree to have their best genjutsu expert teach an outsider. We'd likely better off learning from our sensei Obito anyway, he was insane with genjutsu too and while he may or may not have the advanced sharingan he had in the main universe, that doesn't mean he doesn't have the same skill level. He is a jounin in this after all.
>>3012834
>When're we going to learn our chakra nature?
Never ever
>>
>>3012844
>Wait hold up, Itachi's been a teacher before? What quest?
Itachi was the Jounin Sensei in Shinobi Quest.

>he was insane with genjutsu too
Yeah, after all that Madara stuff.

>the Uchiha clan as a whole likely would never agree to have their best genjutsu expert teach an outsider
If we're friendly with Sasuke he might just offer. He was a pretty cool guy.

Oh hey, the Uchiha never got murdered, that means Itachi's waifu is still alive. Nice.
>>
>>3012846
>Itachi was the Jounin Sensei in Shinobi Quest.
Huh, cool
>Yeah, after all that Madara stuff.
I mean good teacher or not, you still need the actual ability to accomplish it yourself.
>If we're friendly with Sasuke he might just offer. He was a pretty cool guy.
That Sasuke, what a swell dude.
>>
>>3012834
>He's not loyal to Konoha.
Probably true. Sound's an ally here, though, and apparently somewhere on the path we're taking - which, in hindsight, might be why Tsunade's coming with. Taking a rare chance to visit an old teammate.

>>3012844
>Wait hold up, Itachi's been a teacher before? What quest?
Shinobi Quest. Itachi took over as Tsuki's teacher after we got Ebisu killed.
>>

Ebisu killed himself and deserved it.

>>
>>3012907
No, it was really similar to Laze's.
>>
>>3012908
How? Laze didn't really diverge that much from canon, while Wargle very much did. Only real similarity would be having an unique kekkei genkai.
>>
>>3012920
Not in terms of the setting, they just had a similar tone, style, and sometimes story beats.

There are only really 2 formulas for Naruto quests on this site, unless the QM isn't writing a genin.
>>
>>3012846
>Oh hey, the Uchiha never got murdered, that means Itachi's waifu is still alive. Nice.
Oh right, Izumi is a thing. That's nice for Itachi
>>3012926
Playing as an older veteran with issues was probably what made Jounin quest really unique, since it was less about training, waifus, learning life lessons and other stuff young genins would be all about, and more just what kind of person did MC become because of all the shit he went through growing up a child soldier that was taught to give up his life for the village at the drop of a hat. Produced tons of salt on all sides of the conversation but damn was it interesting to play around with.

You mean either the older, more ninjalike feel to the setting in early naruto where things seem kind of grim and logic is as important as power being one
And the pure shonen eastern wizards that are pretty chill off missions and things seem perfectly normal most of the time despite everyone being trained assassins in later naruto/boruto
You're right, it always either feels like one or the other.

Personally I'd agree to either Obito if he turns out to be secretly badass which I'm sort of expecting because he is a jonin after all. That or Tsunade, maybe we even end up a retainer to the senjus or something, that'd be a pretty envious position by most.

Happy Halloween everyone!
Although you can think of a few things to say to your teammates, you decide not to interfere. Maybe Jun will think of something to say to Mariko, eventually. Instead, you focus your attention on the adults ahead of you. It's not like it'd be that hard for you to sneak a bit closer and focus in on what they're saying without being noticed. Lady Tsunade looks as strikingly beautiful as always, and being able to walk behind her gives you an excellent chance to admire her figure from behind, including her excellent ass. Focusing in, you can tell their tone is surprisingly serious. This is just a vacation isn't it?

"I don't like this." Obito says, tensely.

"This guy is an S-rank missing-nin. The Leaf cannot simply allow him to continue operating so closely to Konoha, in one of our most important allies. If Yugakure shows any sign of weakness, Kumo will take advantage and we'll suddenly be sharing a border with one of our strongest rivals." Tsunade explains calmly. You try your best to hide your reaction hearing this. An S-rank missing-nin? In the same city you'll be staying at? They can't be serious!

"Why do my students have to be involved? I don't want them to get hurt." Obito argues, his hushed voice getting a little bit louder.

"Are you doubting your own ability to protect them?" Tsunade asks. Obito tries to respond, but stumbles over his words, and Tsunade cuts him off. "I also don't want them to get hurt. I assure you, we wouldn't be doing this if there was another way, but if he knew Konoha was sending agents, he'd go into hiding again, and we might never get good intel on him. A gorgeous, single woman joining her niece and her teammates on a vacation for some well-deserved relaxation is much less suspicious than one of the legendary Sannin taking a trip to Yugakure for no real reason."

Obito's shoulders sink, but before he can respond, you all hear the sound of a horse and wagon approaching.

The two adults quickly pull into a defensive stance in front of you and your squad, but ease up when they see it appears to just be a simple farmer and his family. As he passes, the man driving the wagon looks over you and waves.

"Ah, you folks heading towards Yugakure?" He asks, his country accent is pretty thick, and Mariko looks fairly disgusted just by the smell of being near him. She's not used to dealing with people from outside the village. Then, of course, neither are you.

"Yes we are," Obito says, walking a bit closer. "How are the roads, friend?"

The farmer sighs. "Bad. You'd do best steering clear of the main road. A bandit gang has taken control of it, and they're charging everyone that passes through a ridiculously high toll. It was worth it just to get out of The Land of Hot Water though."

"Isn't Yugakure supposed to be a luxurious vacation spot though?" Tsunade asks, peering up at the farmer suspiciously.

"Sure, if you can afford to stay there for more than a few nights. Only the richest can, and the Yugakure Shinobi get paid more doing D-Rank missions for the rich living in Yugakure than dealing with any serious issues out in the Land of Hot Water. Our farm was attacked, our cattle was stolen, my eldest son was killed... The Yukage promised me he'd consider my requests, and took our money, and never sent a single shinobi." The farmer spits on the ground.

Obito blinks. "I never knew it was that bad. Should we turn back?"

The farmer shakes his head, "If you're only planning to stay a short while, and stick to Yugakure, you won't have any problems. If you're still trying to make it there, there's an alternate path you can take, going through the Land of Sound. It'll add another day to your travels, but it should be safe. Anyways, we're looking to find a homestead in the south, we can't spend all day talking with you. Good luck, if you decide to go on to Yugakure." The farmer tips his hat, and then continues on his way.

Obito waves as he starts to ride away. "Safe travels, friend!" He calls.

Tsunade, meanwhile taps her chin. "We could also head towards the coast, and hire a ferry to take us straight to Yugakure. It's pricier, and might take a bit longer, but it'd definitely be safe, and would get us there pretty fast."

Obito blinks, "Lady Tsunade, I was thinking we'd just head back to Konoha. I'm not sure this is such a good idea still..."

Mariko pouts, "No, this is the first exciting thing that's happened since we became Genin! You can't just go back on your word, Obito!"

"I don't mind travelling for a few extra days, honestly. The countryside is beautiful." Jun says, looking around the forest. You also notice his gaze stop on Mariko a few times. He's hopeless.

Tsunade turns towards you, "What do you think, Katsuo? I want to hear your opinion." She's letting you decide? She gives you a wink, and you swear your heart stops for a second. She just winked at you. Then, when you start to think about why she'd wink at you, you start to panic. Does she know you listened in on her conversation? You try not to let your nerves show on your face.

Way I see it, while I'm personally pulling for us to go down a more boarish path, we can play Yente for Jun and whichever pretty blonde we don't hook up with.
>>
So our main options right now unless there's a cuter OC out there are
>Ino
Pretty big, important clan with cool mind powers. The girl herself is nice, beautiful and plays ninja D&D, which is pretty fun and we'll get to have some freaky mind swapping sex for sure
>Mariko
She's a fucking Senju, there's no bigger clan than that, and their techniques are pretty fucking strong. Total tsundere, which means we'll have some work to do before we get to see her cuter side and will probably always have smaller quarrels and shit, but it might be well worth it. She will probably grow up to get the best body in the whole village.

Thoughts? I'm fine with either, but I'm leaning more towards Ino at the moment. In case it makes any difference, any of them would get us absorbed into their clan, since they're both so much bigger than our almost no name family.
>>
>>3018886
I'm still aboard the Ino train, just because I think she's often overlooked in nalt quests.
Whereas everyone already knows Tsunade's a fucking goddess, and Mariko is clearly modeled on young Tsunade (complete with cutting board chest, Senju women are apparently late bloomers).

Hinata. From what little we've interacted, we've got along with her better than any of her team members. Also, she doesn't have any friends so least we can do is at least be that for the poor girl.
>>
>>3019143
To be fair you'd have to be a complete asshole to not get along with hinata, she's just way too nice to dislike. I see what you're saying about being friends though. Setting waifus aside for a minute, I'm hoping we end up talking to lee, shino, and jun more. Plus I can't help but think Katsuo would really enjoy meeting Gai and Obito would be a great trainer if we end up having a chakra nature he can work with like fire or wind, since Uchiha are strong fire practitioners and legendary genjutsu users. I still also would want to apprentice under Tsunade if possible, waifu or not her medical ninjutsu and body strengthening is awesome and Katsuo seems skilled enough to learn it.
>>
>>3018886
I'd feel like a jackass if we went after Mariko when Jun clearly wants to tap that ass harder than us.

>>
>>3019143

The bad thing about Hinata is that she's boring as all fuck in canon. Sure, she's cute and shy and all that, but she needs to become interesting before even look into spending some time with her in my opinion. Ino's pretty cool from the get go compared to her.

>>3019310
Thankfully, this isn't canon. Imagine Hinata buckling under the pressure/finally rebelling against her position as Hyuga heiress and becoming missing-nin, and us going through hell to get our dear friend back.
>>
>>3019414
>Hyuga heiress
She shouldn't be though?

Also that's what happened in Leaf Ninja.
>>
>>3019417
Pretty sure it happened in konoha clan quest as well.
>>
>>3019423
It got that far?

Maybe KCQ was more formulaic than I thought, I admittedly skimmed most of it.
>>
>>3019414
Of course, that would be fun, but it still has to happen. I'm not saying it won't, and being on a team with Kakashi should improve her confidence, at the very least, so there's that.
>>
>>3019417
Did it? I read the first 2 or 3 threads of that back when it was running, but I ended up having to drop it because I was busy irl
>>
>>3019433
While it was here it got just past post timeskip. We rescued/talked Hinata down at the waterfall though.

Yeah, she joined Taka with Naruto. Or Kitsune, whatever he called it.

Man, I really want this quest to go on and not die. Naruto is a pretty fucking nice setting for quests.
>>
>>3019685
I'll honestly be happy if it even reaches the timeskip. So many nart quests just die right before or after the chunin exams.
>>

I'm certain that Naruto quests are actually cursed. I'd like to run one but I've got so much left to life for I can't take the risk

Of course he's a little slow, he runs a Naruto quest on qst.

You tap your chin. "I think the best bet is to just go straight ahead. We shouldn't be scared of a few bandits, right? We have a Sannin travelling with us, after all."

Tsunade nods and smiles, "That's right. I'm sure I can keep you guys safe from anything," she gives a pointed glance at Obito, and then smiles back at you. "Although, I'm sure the three of you could handle it without too much trouble as well."

Obito looks between you, your teammates, and Tsunade, before sighing. "Fine, whatever. You three just stay behind me and Lady Tsunade. I don't want you guys getting hurt."

The two of them start walking, but Mariko protests. "Obito-sensei! We're not babies, we can handle ourselves, especially against some filthy peasant bandits trying to extort money out of farmers. We're shinobi!"

Obito looks back, "You guys shouldn't be facing any combat really until you're ready for C-rank missions. You guys aren't ready for a C-rank mission yet. It's okay, it took me a long time before I was ready myself, you just have to have patience." He tries to smile at Mariko, but she just glares at him.

"We're totally ready! Team 7 just got lucky! Let us deal with this bandits, we'll prove it!" Mariko shouts.

"I think maybe... O-Obito-sensei is right." Jun says, quietly. He doesn't seem excited to be disagreeing with Mariko, but as she turns towards him angrily, he holds his ground. "We got hurt when we were taking on genin. We don't even know how tough this bandits could be. I don't want... anyone to have to get put back in the hospital."

Tsunade puts a hand on Jun's shoulder, "I promise you, no one will get hurt. With me and Obito-sensei here, we'll make sure you're safe. However, I do want to see what you guys can do, I've been curious how good of a teacher Obito is." Obito gulps, clearly nervous about a Sannin judging his team.

You can see a sign ahead, marking that you're now leaving the Land of Fire and entering the Land of Hot Water. You can see another road split off, with a sign marking it as the road to the Land of Sound. You also notice everyone looking at you. Oh, they must be waiting for your input. You've gotten pretty good at toning out the arguments your teammates have, but you start to think about it. Both Jun and Mariko do have some point.

We've got a legendary sannin who is also THE face of magic medicine in this setting and an elite ninja of konoha, a villagr already known for having higher grade than average ninja. This is actually a perfect chance to test katsuo against real enemies and if we do well then we'd be impressing an influential member of the village, which would be great for our longterm career

>>
>>3022384
I’ve had it in my head that Kakashi was gay and that was why he was alone the entire series. Bonus points is that he’s had a thing for obito makes their final confrontation that much more emotional.
>>
>>3022270
>go with Mariko.
We can stare at tsunades ass some more later, we need to start getting some real experience anyways. Team 7 is on a real mission too anyways. At least we have a sannin to fight with.
>>
>>3022467
no, no he doesn't
>>
>>3022434
If you are talking about the possibility of Rin being dead,Obito doesnt even have base Sharinhax and I'd expect that particuar event to be the one that unlocks it if not Minato's death.

We already know that the attack of Sanbi happened in a different way and there was no mention of Rin being a jinchuuriki or of her death when investigating about Obito in the first thread so if she is dead at least we know it didnt happen because she was a cunt that jumped in front a Chidori instead of explaining things.

So Kakashi shouldnt be too much of an existencial wreckball if we ignore his father and teachers's deaths.
>>
>>3022509
That's dumb.
It's the standard slashfic "men can't be close friends without being gay" fallacy.
It's PLENTY meaningful for Kakashi to have to face down a man who was like a brother to him, who he thought was dead, whose death he blamed himself for, who he mourned and modeled his life on as a form of atonement, and deal with the very real possibility of having to kill him. Making Kakashi secretly gay for Obito just makes it cheap and petty by comparison.
>>3022560
I figure even if Rin IS dead, having Obito around to help him deal with it would probably have stopped him from piling too much blame on himself.

You think about it for a few moments, "This seems like as good an opportunity to test us, doesn't it? I've already progressed since the test against Team 7, and I want to see how well we can do!"

Obito sighs, clearly getting tired of arguing. "Fine, fine. Just... be careful. I don't want anyone of you getting hurt. Oh, the Hokage's gonna kill me..." He mutters that last part to himself, shaking his head as you pass the border, entering the Land of Hot Water. There's an almost immediate change in the climate around you. You can feel the air growing thicker and more humid, and the temperature increasing.

It doesn't take long before you hear movement in the trees around you, must be the bandits you were warned about. You stay on guard, but they don't seem to try to attack you as you follow the winding trail through the thick, dense forest. Soon, you see a bridge ahead of you, crossing a wide, rushing river. There's no safe alternative way around, and the bridge is blocked by many tough looking men. You count six men on the bridge, and who knows how many more were in the trees around you. This might not be as easy as you'd hoped...

https://youtu.be/AQQ6QBmRAFA

As you approach, one of them, who you can only assume to be the leader steps in front of your path. "This here's a toll road," he says, looking over all of you. Behind him, a scrawnier bandit peers over his shoulder, gazing at Obito nervously. "Price is 500,000 ryo for the right of passage. Don't get any bright ideas." He says. Most of the bandits seem focused on Tsunade's figure, as she does her best to look frightened. Obito keeps a stone face, though.

"That's ridiculous. I know this isn't a toll road, and there's no way that price makes any sense." Obito protests, glaring at the leader.

The nervous looking bandit speaks up, "H-hey, these guys are shinobi. Maybe we shouldn't mess with them?" He tries to reason with the leader, but he simply ignores him.

"If you don't want to pay, maybe we could take the lady, instead." He taunts Obito with a cocky grin. The idea seems popular with his lackeys, as a few cheers are heard from the bandits.

Tsunade laughs, breaking character. "You can certainly try." She says, "But I doubt any one of you can lay a finger on me."

The leader, clearly frustrated by her lack of fear steps forward. He's tall and physically imposing, easily towering over Obito, Lady Tsunade, and the three of you. Tsunade doesn't back down. This clearly wasn't going to end peacefully, however, that also means no one is looking at you, so if you wanted, you can act now.

Now's your chance! All the adults are distracted with one another, if you're able to effectively disable their leader in the opening blow, that's a pretty big win, and it'll be a good showcase of your abilities. You can just picture how impressed Obito and Lady Tsunade will be once they see your signature genjutsu!

"Hey!" you shout, causing everyone to turn towards you, including the Bandit Leader, who makes direct eye contact with you. You smirk, gazing into his eyes as you rapidly run through the hand signs of the technique, "Endless Staircase Jutsu!"

Just as you're about to seal the genjutsu, your focus is interrupted by the suddenly shining eyes of the nervous man behind the leader. You don't know how, but somehow he manages to break your hold on the leader before you can seal the genjutsu.

The leader lets out a bellowing laugh. "You punk! You think your stupid shinobi tricks will work on me?" You back away, unsure what to do. You've never had one of your genjutsus broken so easily before. You're still reeling, as Jun and Mariko both take up defensive positions in front of you.

Obito and Tsunade don't hesitate, jumping into battle immediately. Tsunade immediately swings at the bandit leader, sending him flying towards a tree, as Obito quickly rushes through a series of hand signs, followed with "Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!" He breathes a large fire-ball, burning many of the bandits that didn't dodge quickly enough.

As the fighting breaks out amongst the adults ahead of you, you almost don't notice when four more bandits jump out of the trees behind you. You, Mariko and Jun quickly turn, and the bandits stand tall over you.

"Awww, these kids really think they can stand up to us!" One of them says, laughing to his allies. They all draw their swords, and rush towards the three of you. Jun and Mariko are both still in defensive positions ahead of you, so as the enemies rush at them, you're left standing, fairly safe.

Jun is holding two attacking bandits off with his own unique form of taijutsu. He seems to be constantly conserving energy, making his attacks all the more devastating, sending shockwave through his opponents chakra network. His fighting style was made especially for fighing defensively, so this was working out well. Meanwhile, Mariko was desperately utilizing her Earth Style: Flying Stones Jutsu to hold the bandits away from her.

You turn towards Mariko. She's the one who clearly seems to be having the most trouble here. Jun's strength is in taijutsu, and of course Tsunade and Obito can handle themselves. Really, Mariko is the only one struggling, and you aren't really strong enough to go after an enemy on your own yet.

Mariko, on the other hand is jumping backwards, doing her best to keep away from the blades of the furious bandits. "Earth Style: Flying Stone Jutsu!" She shouts, raising up small boulders to send towards them, but the bandits are able to dodge out of the way fairly easily. She tries to use the technique again, but she isn't able to get through the hand signs quickly enough before she has to dodge away from the bandits. As she focuses on trying to escape the attacks of one of the bandits, she loses focus on the other one, who heads behind her, to flank. As the bandit in front of her lunges at her, she dodges backwards, putting herself right in the way of the enemy's attack.

https://youtu.be/5kQWQiMypjc

You spring into action, launching yourself forward. You're just fast enough to grab Mariko and carry her out of the way. The bandit's attack was so powerful, he isn't able to change course by the time you've gotten Mariko out of the way, so he brings his sword down onto plain ground, kicking up dust and getting his sword stuck in the dirt. You set Mariko down and use the bandit's struggle to your advantage, quickly rushing at him as he struggles to pull his blade back. You're able to connect with a sequence of blows to the stomach, driving him backwards, before you kick him back.

"Look out!" You hear Mariko shout. You turn back just in time to see the other bandit charging at you, looking to drive his sword through your chest. You jump out of the way, landing on the side of a tree and quickly using your chakra control to keep yourself attached to it. As the bandit rushes towards you again, you push yourself off of the tree, sending yourself well over the bandit and landing safely behind him, next to where Mariko is now standing, having gotten her bearings back.

"Well, do you have anymore plans, Katsuo?" She asks, dusting herself off. "I've used up a bit of chakra, these guys are a little tougher than I thought they'd be."

>Critical Hit!

"Alright," you say, looking over the battlefield at your two opponents. "I think I have an idea. I'll try to hold them with my Endless Staircase Jutsu. You knock 'em out afterwards, okay?" Holding more than one person in a genjutsu is tough, and its not something you do too often, but you're tired of having to rely on Jun and Mariko to save you. You need to prove you can keep up with them, once and for all.

She nods, and you start to run through the hand seals. Snake, tiger, bird, hare, horse. You can run through those five hand seals in less than a second. You lock eyes with the enemy swordsmen, but once again, the shining eyes of the nervous-looking man interrupts your genjutsu. You lose concentration, and can't manage to reach them with your chakra. The weird guy had disappeared almost immediately after the fighting started, but he manages to pop back into view just before you're able to seal the genjutsu. This guy's good at watching the battlefield at the very least, he must have memorized the hand seals before you could finish them. That means he'll effectively be able to counter your signature jutsu whenever you try to pull it out.

"Damn!" You curse, causing Mariko to turn to you, startled.

"What's wrong now?" She asks, a worried look in her eyes. You usually don't let your emotions get the better of you, so to see you actually frustrated must have shocked her.

"The weird, skinny bandit over there," You start to explain, gaze darting over the battlefield. "He's been blocking my genjutsu this whole time, he must have some sort of dojutsu. On top of that, he's memorized the hand seals for Endless Staircase, so as long as he can see me doing them beforehand, he can counter it, as long as he can get within sight."

"Then... that means he'll be able to counter all of your genjutsu?" Mariko asks, starting to get more and more worried. This isn't training anymore, lives are on the line, and yet you have to admit, she's right. These aren't just ordinary bandits clearly, but once again, you're rendered completely useless in a fight, having to rely on Mariko and Jun to save you. Without your genjutsu, you really can't do much good in the battlefield.

You start to nod, but you remember something that sticks out in your head.

"I refuse to give up, I refuse to back down, and I refuse to be surpassed by anyone!" You shout, shaking your head. Mariko is taken aback, but you turn towards her. "I'm sick and tired of having you and Jun have to save me. I know what to do, but I need your hand for it." You demand, keeping your eyes on the bandits, who now have you and Mariko surrounded.

"Wh-what?" Mariko's face flushes, but you grab her hand regardless.

"We don't have time, just copy my hand seals." You say, as you draw a kunai with your other hand. You slow your hand seals slightly, just slow enough that Mariko can follow along. Monkey, boar, dragon, snake, horse. Then, faster, snake, tiger, bird, hare, horse. "It's true that his dojutsu may be able to counter my most basic genjutsu, but I have way more tricks than that!" You throw the kunai right in front of you. "Double Sense Barrage! Endless Staircase and Aural Delusory Jutsu!" By combining your Endless Staircase and Aural Delusory techniques, you are able to affect both senses at the same time, not only making a more powerful genjutsu, but also utilizing the advantage that a dojutsu has no way to counter a sound-based genjutsu, as that targets the ear, rather than the eye.

You turn back towards Mariko, letting her look back. "Alright, now you deal with those two, I'll get the other guy." You tell Mariko, who glares up at you. Unfortunately for her, she knows that in the middle of a battle isn't the time to yell at you, so she rushes off towards the bandit, allowing you to take out the nervous looking guy. You rush towards him, and he turns frantically. By the time he sees you, you're already close enough that there's no where for him to escape to when you slam your knee into his chin.

Once he's knocked out, you turn to see Mariko knocking out the last of her two guys with an uppercut that sends the poor bandit soaring into the air, his companion trapped underneath a pretty sizable pile of rocks. You look out over the rest of the battlefield, to see Jun standing atop a few unconscious bandits, Tsunade holding the unconscious bandit leader by the neck, and Obito standing over a burning bridge that probably used to have bandits upon it.

"Well done, everyone!" Obito says, looking out at you. "Even I have to admit, you guys... held your own out there. Maybe I was wrong about you three not being ready."

Tsunade nods, "You were all very impressive. Jun's physical prowess and taijutsu style made taking care of those bandits easy for him, even on his own, and Katsuo's grasp on genjutsu continues to be very impressive."

"What about me?" Mariko asks, pushing in front of you and Jun.

"You did fine." Tsunade shrugs.

"Just fine?! Are you kidding?!" Mariko loudly protests. You and Jun grin at one another as Obito sighs, looking on at Tsunade and Mariko beginning to bicker.

"Will you calm down?" He groans at Mariko. "We'd better keep moving if we want to get to Yugakure before nightfall." With that Obito turns, leading your team across the bridge. You can't help but feel proud of yourself. You held your own for once, and you didn't need anyone else to save you. You can feel yourself becoming a better shinobi. You may not be a natural genius yet, but maybe what Rock Lee said was right, and with enough hard work, even you can become greater than anyone ever thought.

For now though, the road to Yugakure awaits.

Its a lot of fun. Its nice to see a Naruto quest where the mc actually has to work hard to and has nothing handed to him.
