Wriggle wriggle.

The warm thing is cold thing now, so you uncurl and move away from it. There are no more close. Look for more? Look for more.

Wriggle wriggle.

It is very still and quiet. You like it like this. Nothing bothers you, and you keep moving along.

Sleepy, too. Hungry, too.

Maybe you should find tasty things. But they are not easy to find. Because everything is cold.

The cold is scary. You don’t like scary things.

Good morning folks. Today may or may not be a little weird.

You may have already noticed that I'm a bit out of it. I am super tired. This makes my writing more funny than usual. Also I'm drawing for some reason. Let's see where this goes.

You decide to be brave. You are a brave thing.

You feel and smell the air, then move to where you think would be tasty things.

Wriggle wriggle.

You come to a big cold block. Inside is a tasty thing. You climb up the slippery block and munch on it.

Munch munch.

Your munching is ineffectual.

You keep at it, but the cold block remains a cold block.

You really want a nice, big leaf. But there are no more leaves here.

Suddenly, the cold block stops being cold, and being a block. It turns slippery and slippery until it becomes water.

The tasty thing inside is free. It smells nice. You munch on the round tasty thing.

Munch munch munch.

It is tasty.

You like it, but it is gone soon. Still, you had a tasty thing. There are many tasty things that cannot be munched, but this one is yours.

You are a happy thing.

But why did the cold block change?

Maybe you should have let them know that you are not tasty. Very not tasty.

The two things take you through the cold. You wriggle and struggle but can’t get free.

You are scared. Shiver shiver.

But after some time, they stop. You think they feel it too. There’s something very bad near.

You feel the ground. The two have let you down. You here them walk away - tap tap tap - but the things they tied around you are still there.

You are very scared. There is something very, very bad nearby.

Shiver shiver.

You want to go away from here. It’s scary. Scary.

You try to wriggle yourself upright, but the things the two tied to you are in the way. With lots and lots of struggling you manage to move your mouth to them.

Munch munch munch munch.

The binding things are gone. Roll roll, wriggle wriggle.

You are free.

But now what?

Scary things are happening nearby. You don’t want to be here.

Run? Hide.

You wriggle away until you find a wall, then feel about until you find a hole big enough for you to fit through. Somewhere they can’t reach you, somewhere you can hide.

Hide hide hide.

You crawl inside the hole, away from the scary things.

... You crawl too far, and find yourself at the end of the hole.

It opens to somewhere else. Through the wall. You crawled a lot, so you aren’t close to the scary things anymore.

You can still feel it. The air is heavy, pushing you down. It almost hurts.

You don’t like it. Maybe you should keep going. But what if you run into something else?

You should go back into the hole. The hole is nice and safe. The hole is your home.

Before you reverse-wriggle, something grabs you and takes you from your hole.

That's the end of this session. Thanks for reading!

Sorry that last update took so damn long. I figured while I had my tablet out I just had to draw Aquarius... but that turned out to be impossible. Ended up having to half-trace just to get /something/ out, and even that took ages.

One way or another we made it. Ha ha ha.

I plan on continuing tomorrow, hopefully when I'm less sleep deprived. So roughly 20 hours from now.

Next time Long Lost Stars proper comes back. Silkworm Quest is dead. Long live.

Despite how weird this all ended up, I hope at least some of you enjoyed the interlude. I had fun messing around with my tablet again. Also my arm hurts.

See ya next time.

You open your eyes.

There’s nothing to see here. Just a nondescript corner that you decided to sit and lean against. Some place underground, in the network of stations and silent tunnels.

You can’t seem to fall asleep.

Chirp chirp.

The small bird notices your stirring and calls out, ruffling its red and yellow feathers.

It used to be just an orange ball. You don’t know when it changed. You didn’t think much about it before. You didn’t like it much at first. Because it’s noisy.

But it’s stayed with you, for whatever reason.

You look down. On your lap is a dagger, a curved blade as long as your forearm.

You brush your fingers over its handle. Over the patterns carved into its surface.

Chirp chirp.

Giggle giggle.

You look up to the side, thoughts interrupted, and see a big, white, fluffy-looking thing.

You saw the Silkworm before - you aren’t sure how much time has passed - and you took it with you... because you wanted to. You then found this corner to rest in, and decided to play something on your horn-flute.

Because you felt like it.

Then this happened. From Wisdom that isn’t yours you know it is a ‘Cocoon’, and the Silkworm is inside. Next to it are two childish forms prodding the ‘Cocoon’ and giggling.

They’re in thick winter coats, each with messy black hair and a small curved horn on their forehead. You watch the two stars absently.

Poke poke.

Shiver shiver.

Giggle giggle.

The bird hops onto your knee, cocking its head.

They aren’t paying you any attention, but the twin stars and the Cocoon are very close. Close enough that you could touch one without having to stand up.

You reach out, prodding the nearest star on the cheek with your finger.

The star turns to you, looking between you and your finger curiously.

Her cheek is really soft and smooth. Poke poke.

Lap. The star licks your finger. It tickles.

Lap. You jump. Something wet runs across your cheek. You turn and see the other star.

Giggle giggle.

...

You liken the twin stars to ‘Cats’, from Wisdom that isn’t yours.

The time you spend with the two is, you think, best described by the word ‘frolicking’. It ends as suddenly as it began, the stars simply running off without any warning, hand in hand.

Their light laughter almost hangs in the air for a while, drifting away for silence to return.

The bird and the Cocoon are still here, of course. The latter still shivers fearfully - you think it was doing that the entire time - and the former is being quiet.

... For some reason, the bird has a white ribbon around its neck now. Tied into a bow. It seems to like it.

You stand, staring at the direction in which the twin stars left. A moment, and you find yourself walking.

Those two have found their wish. You know, somehow.

Clip clip clip.

You move quicker, jogging along, but you can’t see their starlight. They’ve run off.

They no longer seek. Do they wander, chasing their whims instead?

Your eyes are drawn to colour by your feet. You had turned a corner, and on the icy floor you find two woolen dolls. Shaped like children in thick coats, joined at the hands.

You take them with you.

You ponder your direction.

Your thoughts turn to the Cocoon. Before you continue to seek, you decide to find something to cover it. The white silk stands out, so maybe you could help it hide.

This is a small Station. You passed one Store while you were moving, but you think that one was for food and drink. You might have to look around to find something suitable.

Clip. Clip. Clip.

Tiled floors. ‘Benches’ of metal. You see a sign: ‘Post Office’. Maybe here?

... You sense it in the air before you see it. There’s a Tooth here, some distance along this wider hallway. Four-legged, low, snouted mouth and fangs.

You see just one. You wonder if that’s all there is.

You hide your starlight within, watching the Tooth. It moves on soundless paw-like shadows, stalking across the hall.

More than ten, twenty metres away? Distances are hard. You’re sure it won’t notice you here, but you don’t want to do this for too long. Already, you can start to feel the cold.

You take out your flute, eyeing the entrance to the ‘Post Office’. How long would it take to unfreeze it if you’re hiding your light?

You’ll be fine if the Tooth doesn’t come towards you...

... What is it doing?

The Tooth has stopped at one side of the hall. There’s a blue glow there, barely visible. Stepping closer, slowly, slowly, you watch.

It bends down, snouted head splitting open, the nothingless forming lines of fang-like shapes that close over the glowing crystal.

When it draws away the crystal is still there, but its glow isn’t.

The feeling of distortion. Something out of place. The air feels heavier.

...

You hear a ruffling in your bag. Thankfully quiet, but it seems the orange bird is restless.

Your fingers tap the handle of the horn-blade, strapped behind you at your belt. You’re a bit restless too.

Something in you wants to draw the horn at your belt, wants to fight...

Thump, thump, thump, thump.

You slowly let out a breath. You don’t have a reason to do that. They are your enemy, but confronting them isn’t your goal. Isn’t your wish.

The Tooth is shifting in place. It took that crystal’s glow, the light that isn’t starlight. Is it looking for more?

You had crystals in your bag, didn’t you?

Panic. You check the inside of your bag, nudging the red-feathered bird out of the way. There are crystals there.

They aren’t glowing. You vaguely remember taking ones that did glow. When did that happen?

... You don’t know. Think later.

You turn to the ‘Post Office’ and take your flute in hand, keeping most of your starlight hidden as you raise it to your lips.

A low, barely audible hum. The glass door unfreezes and, after another glance at the thing of nothingness, you enter the building.

Paper, ‘Envelopes’, ‘Stationary’. Nothing that draws your interest.

Creep, creep, creep.

‘Keychains’, ‘Post Cards’. ‘Souvenirs’, from Wisdom that isn’t yours. The Store is fairly big, so you were hoping there would be a lot of different things here. Maybe you are a lucky star.

Creep, creep, creep.

‘Bath Towel’. There were other things, like clothing with weird colours on them, but this you think would be best.

Another hum from your flute, and you stuff it into your bag.

Perfect.

This is more hidden than before.

The Cocoon shivers. You decide it’s pleased.

You stand, lightly dusting your hands. With your quest complete, you turn away.

Goodbye Cocoon. Be safe.

You can’t hear the star’s breaths. A statue.

What should you do. What do you want to do.

Chirp chirp.

You bop the bird on its head. It chirps again in response.

You wanted it to be quiet. Oh well.

Space widens, stretches up and up. The Mall is still. You walk, looking around absently.

You think about the unmoving star. About what makes a fallen star move. Their wish is theirs, like yours is yours. What does a star have other than their wish?

... You come across a ‘Cart’. Exceedingly colourful, as if rebelling against the lightless place. Filled with ‘Candy’.

A simple note, a hint of starlight, and much of the ‘Cart’ is no longer frozen.

A splash of red adds itself to the scene. The bird hops about curiously, sampling the many different multi-coloured Candies. You take one.
>>
Soft, squishy. Sticky, stretching from your teeth.

Sweet, just like before.

There are little Paper Bags decorated with pictures. You fill a few with different Candies, and place them in your bag.

You leave the Cart behind, continuing to wander the hall. You could return now, but you don’t know if that star would like candy.

There are all sorts of different tasty things, after all. Like crunchy, salty things, that another star might like more.
>>
... Your thoughts grow muddy again. Forward. Forward, through the silent dark.

Maybe you should return, after all.

‘Return’.

To do what? To stay with that star. To see if they would move, if they would stand.

Why?

Not for your wish. So why?

Ah.

Again, you act unlike a fallen star.

What is wrong with that. Why is that wrong.

What are you looking for?

What will you find?

What will you lose?

You hear a noise.

Someone is crying.

On the floor before you, curled up. Long, long hair pools around them.

Sob. Sob.

Piercing in silence.

Clip. Clip. Clip.

Clip. Clip Clip.

Closer. Closer.

Staring into tearful eyes. Black, deeper than the dark.
>>
The sound of a flute drifts in your ears.

It never ends

It never ends

A melody laced with sorrow. Pain throbs in your chest.

Wherever I look, wherever I go

The song you played. A song for a star that couldn’t move forward. A star that lost its warmth.

Everything reminds me of you

Grief. Loss. Regret. Tears flow, and flow, and flow from your gray eyes.

It’s gone.

You fall to your knees, staring into nothing.

Something chirps nearby, but you cannot hear.

The feeling of weight grows. Ravenous hunger, pushing on you, stealing the breath from you.

Ah.

It comes.

You have to fight back
you have to banish the dark
you have to run
you have to protect your light

keep going
keep going
keep seeking your wish
and...

and...

Chirp chirp, chirp chirp.

... It’s become noisy.

Your eyes are open, but there isn’t anything to see. You know that you’re still in that Car Park, against that wall, curled up with your arms around your knees. You haven’t moved from this spot for a long while, after all.

You must cut a sorry sight.

Chirp chirp, chirp chirp.

Quiet. Or perhaps louder. Enough to drown out your thoughts. You had lost yourself before, but now silence is painful.

It was that melody that stirred you. You can still hear it.

A mournful tune.

One you may not be qualified to understand.

Yet, that star...

Chirp chirp chirp chirp.

You look up. It takes long for your eyes to focus on the blotch of crimson against grays in front of you. A bird with red and orange feathers, hopping up and down and flapping its wings. Chirping incessantly.

You move your arms. A hand falls to your side, finds your horns lying on the frozen stone, and grasps them.

You move your legs. Shaky, stiff enough that you can almost hear them creak as you push yourself up, leaning on your horns.

The bird takes flight, heading through the Car Park, up into the Mall proper, and you follow.
>>
Urgency. That’s what feel from the bird’s chirping and flight. It leads you through the Mall, up to a higher floor with clear purpose, and you run to keep up.

BOOM!

The building quakes. You almost lose balance at the sudden burst of starlight coming from up ahead.

A star is there.

Long, flowing gray hair, a pair of rigid horns. A white collared shirt cloaked in darker colours. A horn - a long curved blade held reverse - in one hand, and a wand in the other.

Facing her is darkness.

A four-legged Tooth bares its shadowy fangs. Easily reaching over your height, the thing may be the largest Tooth you have seen, its canine-shaped bulk covering an entire path through the Mall.

The gray star, battered and panting, faces that hunger with her blade.

Sorrow. A loss that surpasses yours, and the pain that comes with it. Yet here the star stands, and here the star fights.

A rebellion against the dark. A desperation to lose no more.

The sight entrances you. Moves you.

The Tooth lunges.

The bone of one who fell, seeking their wish.

Your sword flashes through the air, tearing into an outstretched claw. The gray star evades to the side as the Tooth’s leap breaks.

You draw your weapon close to your chest then press the assault, diving close to the Tooth before stabbing through the mass of void - and ripping your blade outwards to the side.

------!

The Tooth’s form roils, collapsing on itself before reforming its massive shape a few steps away.

You feel eyes on you, but you keep facing your enemy.

You’ve made your decision. You will wield your sword and starlight.

You know she is Aquarius. She knows you are Libra.

You will become her Knight.

This time, you will not fail.
>>
The blue star stands in front of you, horn held vertical just in front of them in what you think is a ‘Salute’. The really big Tooth has fallen back.

------

The space shivers. The blue star stares, waiting. The Tooth’s forelegs, now reformed after being severed by the blue star’s horn, shift forward, and the thing lowers.

You stand, re-balancing your stance, grasping your wand bound to Blast-

Then the thing turns and runs away.

...

...

...?

...Has that ever happened before?

...

Strength leaves you, and you fall to the floor again. You think, from Wisdom that is not yours, that this is called ‘Anti-Climax’.

Whatever the case, everything hurts. You don’t like hurting.

Shhhhk.

You see the blue star sheathing their sword. Apparently they made a scabbard out of one of their horns too. You bring the horn-blade behind your belt and tie it up, then look at the blue star.

You know they are Libra. They know you are Aquarius.

They’re standing, and moving. That’s nice.

They helped you. That’s nice.

You feel happy.

Chirp chirp!

Flap flap flap. The red-feathered bird settles on Libra’s shoulder. The blue star moves a finger under the bird’s feet, picking it up and handing it to you.

The bird hops across onto your head, ruffling its feathers. You leave it alone.

The blue star’s hand is still out. He looks at you, wearing a slight smile.

You take their hand and they help you up. The blue star is a bit taller than you.

You hug the blue star. Thank-you hug.

Hug. Huuuug.

The blue star stiffens. You rest on his shoulder, lightly rubbing the side of your head against her cheek.

You are aware you are being Cat-like. You believe this is not a bad thing. The twin stars were Cat-like. They were very cute. They taught you the Way of the Cat.

Are you cute?

A pair of hands force you away. Libra’s face is very red. You watch her weird hand-waving dance for a bit, wondering how to interpret it.

You walk towards the blue star, and they freeze again. You reach out, and poke their cheek.

Poke.

Libra turns away, face buried in palms.

The blue star is funny.

The weird exchange eventually ends. The red-feathered bird remains on your head, content with its home.

Your Blast had broken a wall, and some parts of that store looks unstable. It wasn’t enough to beat that Tooth, though.

The Tooth that ran away. Even though they should be hunger, and nothing else.

You have seen that Tooth. It’s the one from before, the one that was biting at a crystal’s light. This time it was much, much, much bigger.

Light-Eaters and Teeth grow when consuming light, but you haven’t seen a Tooth change this much. Even though they change shape a lot, Teeth are still physical things unlike Light-Eaters.

But, not like you know that much about Light-Eaters and Teeth. They don’t exist in Wisdom that isn’t yours.

Mmm...

Oh. A crystal, by that bench. It’s not that big, and glows, so you walk over and take it.

The Tooth that took a crystals light. And back when you found this bird on your head, that Light-Eater...

You sit on the bench and turn the crystal over in your hands. It yields no secrets.

You reach up and take the bird off your head, then prod it with the crystal. The bird looks confused.

...Oh well.

You put the crystal in your bag.
>>
You still have Candy in your bag. You look around and find Libra. He’s standing a little distance away, stiffly straight and with hands behind his back.

Stare...

The blue star catches your gaze. They look away for a moment, seeming a little flustered. Then the blue star offers you a very light, very gentle smile, before staring forward at nothing again.

You wonder if she likes Candy.

You move along the bench towards the blue star. For some reason, the blue star shifts away.

Mu.

You get up and pull on the blue star’s hand, dragging him to the bench. Libra resists, but then pauses when he sees your arm.

He bites his lip and looks down with wrinkled brows. You blink, then flap your arms up and down.

Flap flap flap. The bird on your head flaps its wings. Flap flap flap.

Your shirt’s sleeve is torn. There’s blood there. It only hurts a little bit now though. You can move it fine.

Libra stops you, taking a wand from their belt.

Starlight. A sharp, sizzling feeling. Painful.

You flinch, but it goes away quickly.

Your wound is gone.

Sitting on the bench with you the blue star, looking troubled, apologetic.

You put a piece of Candy in his mouth.

Libra sits there, wide-eyed. Shocked and confused. Did you break the blue star?

You poke her until they start chewing.

Chew, chew, chew.

Chew, chew, chew.

You bat away a thieving bird and take another candy, a ‘Gummy Bear’, from the paper bag on your lap. Libra backs away a bit, and you lean over and push the candy into her mouth.

The blue star isn’t looking your way anymore. Their cheeks are red again.

Chew, chew, chew.

You decide she likes candy.
>>
Once again, you have someone by your side. A warmth.

There are things other than your wish to see. Tasty things, unknown things, curious things. Once again, you can share them with another.

You feel happy. You do.

But...

...

Chrrirp.

The red-feathered bird appears to have a ‘Gummy Bear’ stuck in its beak. You ignore it and take one for yourself. Chew, chew.

Sweet.

You have rested, you have healed, and you have had sweet things. You could call your current condition perfect.

You’ve decided to banish that weird Tooth.

A decision you have never made before. Chasing after the dark is unusual. You’ve always run away, and that always made sense - they are your enemy, but banishing them is not your wish.

A star does not burn forever.

So when you first saw the Tooth and ignored it, your choice was correct. But now you know how strange the Tooth is, how much it’s grown.

You don’t want to fight, but you have a feeling leaving it alone would be worse.

You zip up your bag and stand up, taking a glance around. Stores, tiled pathway, frozen glass and railings. Stairs and ‘Escalators’, up and down. A hint of bleached, lifeless moonlight on higher floors.

The Tooth was wounded, but even with Libra by your side you’re unsure if you could beat it safely. This time, you should be more careful.

There would be bones here, lost and waiting. You would borrow their light.
>>
Many stars have chosen to fall. Many have failed.

You kneel before what one left behind. A fallen star, who could not find what they sought.

You don’t know what the patterns show.

...

You tie a third wand to your cloak and rise to your feet. Libra is with you, not moving from your side the entire time.

Will that lead him to his wish?

You catch the red-feathered bird before it reaches your head and stuff it in your bag, zipping it up tight, then turn your thoughts to the Tooth.

Fragments of a Light-Eater. Shards of void that appear in your enemy’s wake. They shift and reshape, but are ultimately physical. You don’t need to give it shape before you can harm it.

A Tooth’s weight can bear on you, similar to a Light-Eater, but you have to be quite close to feel it. They are much harder to sense.

Caution. How should you proceed, you wonder.

Something large and heavy we can imbue with starlight and drop on it while it inspects the crystals
>>
...

You place the glowing crystal atop the knee-height pile in the center of the wide floor. You’ve found more than a dozen, some of them quite large. There probably aren’t this many crystals in the same place anywhere close to here.

A big glowing pile of shiny. Mesmerising.

But yes, this is enough. It’s close, closer. You can feel its weight.

It’s time.

You move away, hiding by one of the pillars that supports the upper level and watch. Quite a distance away, melting out of shadows from the other side of this wide, wide floor, is the Tooth.

Like a giant wolf made of ink. A strange, rattling hiss, barely audible, seeps from the thing as it pads across the frozen tiles, heading towards the pile of crystals.

Not a sound. Not a sound.

Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.

The Tooth reaches the crystals and starts to reshape, its mass shifting towards the front. It opens a fanged feasting maw that grows larger and larger by the second.

Now!

You raise your flute and play.

You don’t have time for a tune, a melody. Your starlight flares, and a very loud, very harsh note rends through the air and painfully tears the silence apart.

----------!!

A tangible pressure engulfs the Tooth and slams it to the ground. It struggles to pick itself up, struggles to bound at you.

You have a headache. You feel drained. You feel like your horn shouldn’t be used like that.

You don’t think you can do that again. But all he needed was a moment.

Far, far above, on the fourth floor of the Mall, Libra leaps from the railings.

Your first thought was one of the ‘Elevators’. You think that would have been very, very cool, but the Tooth was likely too big to draw into one of those shafts. So you walked around and looked for something else.

What you found were those hanging decorations, huge lights of glass and metal made to look like five-pointed stars.

You thought they were very fitting for what you and Libra were about to do.

The blue star draws her sword mid-air and slashes through the frozen wiring, and with nothing to support it the fake star starts to drop.

The bone of one who fell, seeking her wish.

You brandish your newest wand, bound to Aura, and the huge metal decoration shines with brilliant, true Starlight-

And falls on the Tooth with a great big CRASH!
>>
(Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTNfuztCMgM)

Libra follows, swiftly landing and taking stance with her sword. You run out from your side of the floor, ready.

The Tooth’s form is crushed. Its limbs lie splayed under the broken creaking metal, its mass shifting but failing to form proper shape. Splotches of void fall from the thing, disintegrating.

It has enough strength to free itself.

The weight is still there, the snarling, relentless hunger is still there.

Doesn’t matter. You’re going to change all of that very, very soon.

The Tooth throws off the jagged tubing of the large decoration, pieces of the thing dispersing on contact with the light of your spell. It’s smaller than before, more uneven in shape. No less dangerous.

-----------!!!

Libra is the first to act. The blue star jabs forward with her sword, each thrust that lands tearing off shadow and darkness away from the Tooth’s mass. She shifts back and forth methodically, away from flailing swipes of many-clawed forelimbs, wearing down her enemy.

Some of her evades are close. Frighteningly close.

There is a distinct flaw to your strategy. If you don’t pressure the Tooth it may begin taking the light of the crystals, and possibly grow larger. And if you take too long, your bait might attract more attention.

You have to finish this now.

Libra’s sword stabs into an approaching forelimb and the Tooth rumbles, keeping a hold of the blue star’s weapon and reshaping its shadowy mass forward.

You take the chance. You dive in, grasping your horn-blade’s hilt, closing to the Tooth’s flank before stabbing the weapon in with both hands.

The thing flails and you hold on desperately-

Tough- thick- your cut stops- you push your weight forward, dragging the embedded blade through the thing -

Tearing the weapon across and out-

You’re thrown through the air, landing hard on your back, gasping for air-

Then, stillness.

With difficulty, you recover your failing breath and push yourself up. The mass of impossible-black is breaking, disappearing into pieces of shadow that float up on unseen winds.

Libra still stands. You her wipe a hint of red off her cheek before the blue star meets your eyes.

Your chest hurts again. Ow.

But it looks like it’s over.

Goodbye, stupid big Tooth. Let’s not meet again.

The blue star extends a hand, which you take. Now, to collect all those crystals before more things come.

That'll be all for this thread.

Real sorry for cutting things so short. There's a few things that I'm dissatisfied with for the past few sessions, and I don't want to keep going without some time to think things through.

Well, hopefully folks had fun anyways.

As always, archives: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=autistichornedgirls
And announcements: http://twitter.com/boxofmithril

The plan is still the same, so next weekend I plan on running a new thread. I'll figure stuff out over the weekdays.

Thanks again for reading, and see you next time!
