Remember that one time when the socially-reclusive NEET girl T.T. Neko attacked you, because you were trying to prove how much of a good guy you were? You’re living its tragic consequences right now! You’re trapped in your hospital bed with immense pain and guilt. Pain because you were almost killed and had to go through surgery, guilt because everything went off the rails while you were unconscious – something that should have been avoided, but wasn’t.

You just finished reading T_T Neko’s foreboding message. It read like a suicide note, a bad feeling you cannot shake off at all. You should contact her as soon as possible! Also she gave you her cat, the one who delivered the note. The cat in question, Melodia, is currently sitting in your lap after causing you incredible amounts of pain.

“So… how did you survive the last few days while I was unconscious?” You ask the pretty little cat. “Were you in the drawer with the get-well presents the whole time, waiting for me to wake up?”
“Meow!” Melodia gives you her best and only answer!
“I see…” You pat her head again. Silly little thing.

“After all the trouble we went through, our reward is this drab feline? Rather disappointing.” Philonune stares at the cat in your arms.
“What are you talking about? She’s cute.” Melodia gives a soft ‘nyaah~’ as you scratch her behind the ears. Wait, that’s not what this is about! “…I’m more worried about Neko doing something rash. We should go see her once I can walk again.”
“I seriously hope she doesn’t end up stabbing you in the back, Johnny.”
“What are you talking about? She clearly goes for the front.” You point to your aching wounds, some already beginning to recover! Probably…

What are you going to do from your hospital bed?

>Try to call the anonymous number! Maybe you can get to her quickly enough?
>Write a message back and give it to the kitty. She should know what to do!
>Maybe you can tell someone in the clinic you’re awake! Where’s that nurse button?
>Attempt to summon Philonune and use him to open the door to check the hallway!

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so we can speed the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed.

Dice Mechanic (Up for Balance)

We always roll 1d100s!
I use the average (the mean) of the 4 best rolls plus a modifier depending on Johnny’s stats (Knowledge, Courage, etc.) for the quest. The degree of Success will be determined by the difficulty I specify for the action or prompt compared to the result. The stat based modifier is based in the level of Johnny’s stats (+10 per level not counting the first one). If there are less than 4 rolls I’ll do the math with the ones I have. For example:

>Johnny punches Howie! [Hard Roll][Athletic Based]

Equation:
(Roll 1 + Roll 2 + Roll 3 + Roll 4 + [Stat Based Modifier]) / (Number of Dices Rolled (Max. 4)) = Result!

Rolling over a 95 is a critical strike and ignores the other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 5 or under means a critical failure (Only for hard rolls on)…

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action, in other words, the harder the option the better the result for the fight!

Don’t forget at the end of the day this is a Story-driven quest! So what the prompts are describing is more important than difficulty of the rolls are for the results in a fight.

We will roll after the voting is done!

Many of the greatest misunderstandings in history could have been avoided with a simple phone call. Instead of any reckless action, it’s better to pick up your phone! That anonymous number must’ve been her, better to start with that. You dial her number.

You get absolutely nothing. Her phone is working fine so it’s not like she intentionally broke it or anything! Does this knowledge even help in this situation?!

“I can’t get to her.” You say blandly as you keep staring at your phone, feeling powerless.
“Is the situation as dire as you suspect?” Philonune asks as he keeps staring at Melodia.
“Yes.” You’re sure Neko is going to do something stupid. Irredeemably, fatally stupid.

“You don’t have enough energy to walk, even less to invoke me. You need to think of something, because I cannot think of any solutions here.” Philonune doesn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
“Meow!” Melodia seems determined to help you. But how? The cat is relaxed enough to make you think there is still time, however. She’d know if Neko killed herself already, wouldn’t she? Aren’t cats supposed to be psychic about their owners?

There’s gotta be a worthwhile option here…

>Call the police and tell them about Neko’s situation! Every second counts, especially since you’ve slept for three days!
>Call someone trustworthy who can help you in this quest! <ost of the people you know are at the funeral, but maybe…

Shouldn’t there be a nurse button around here? Wait there was one… You used it to call Kata a bunch of times! Here it is next to your bed! …Where else could it have been? They wouldn’t design this place as a torture chamber for patients!

Okay that’s an exaggeration, but you blame the pain for making you think that. You press the button and wait…

Someone is opening the door! It’s Nurse Ka…

Wait, that’s not Kata – that’s just a regular plain nurse!

“Hello there… Ehm…” She checks her clipboard. “Johnny! Nice to meet you, I’m Tamara. You have a lot going on… I have no idea how you survived, you’re quite lucky.” She keeps looking at her clipboard in a concerned way. Is it really that bad?
“Hi…?” She isn’t who you were expecting.
“So you just woke up, correct? How are you feeling?” She’s finally looking at you properly.

“I—”
“Hold on, what’s this little girl doing here?” The nurse grabs Melodia. The cat is so tame she barely reacts. “So adorable! How did you sneak in here…?”
“Meow!” Melodia meows happily, waving her paws in the air.
“That won’t do, lady. I’m going to take her out really quick, please give me a moment…”

Ehm… Shouldn’t you be saying something?!

>“I feel like ass by the way. What did they do to me while I was out?”
>“Excuse me, where are Doctor and Nurse Calamity? I need to talk to them.”
>“The kitty is mine, and it’s making me feel better. Please leave it here with me.”

“The kitty is mine, and it’s making me feel better. Please leave it here with me.” You ask politely.
“I apologize, but I can’t do that. It’s against this establishment rules, on top of being unsanitary. I’m going to take care of her until someone else comes for her, I promise.” What…? Kata would totally let the kitty stay!

Pity is your only weapon left! Doing this is gonna leave a bitter taste in your mouth…

“Are you really taking this wounded man’s only company?” You attempt to guilt-trip this innocent nurse doing her job!
“I have no other choice! Please don’t make me feel bad…!” Tamara grabs Melodia like a little baby. The cat seems to enjoy it even though you don’t.

“Don’t leave yet, there’s something important left!” Wait! Neko!
“Oh, so you want to do that?” She seems oddly relieved. “Well then, for your necessities under your be—”
“I don’t need to go to the bathroom!” What’s this thought process? Is this a professional at work?! “Thing is, I think one of my friends is in danger.”

“Danger? How do you know? Didn’t just wake up?”
Oh yeah, you forgot about that. “…Shouldn’t you be more concerned about the danger I’m talking about?” Also phones are a thing.
“My concern is your health, Johnny. I wouldn’t be a qualified nurse if I let my patients do as they please.”
My concern is my friend’s health! I think she’s going to commit suicide. She sent this letter, and I fear the worst.” You show her the piece of paper. “I need to do something!

“Give me her name and address, and I’ll call the police. They will figure out what to do.” She puts Melodia back on the bed. “You’re lucky missy. Seems you’re going to enjoy some more quality time with your owner…”

Tamara pulls out a pen to write on her clipboard. But there is only one problem…

You don’t know T_T Neko’s name.

What do you do?!

>“It’s more complicated than that. I just know her username. You see, we’re friends online and I know where she lives. I think if you can take me there I could do something.”
>“It’s T_T Neko, and this is her address…” This sound so stupid, but you’re desperate!
>“It’s Trisha Nekosky, and this is her address.” Lie! You don’t know anything!
>“I don’t think the police is going to be of much help. You have some ambulances here right? We can go directly with one of them!”

“It’s Trisha Nekosky, and this is her address.” You tell the nurse as you show her the apartment’s map location on your phone.
“It’s very close to here isn’t it? I’m going to make some calls. Before I go – I know you’re worried about her, but remember whatever happens is not your fault.” Tamara gives you a sympathetic smile and quickly gets out of the room. You can hear her speaking on the phone as her voice gets farther and farther away.

You don’t think she’s right at all. It really is all your fault, and she doesn’t know it.

“You think that’s enough?” Philonune wonders as he floats by your side.
“Absolutely not.” If she takes her life, everything you did that day would be for nothing.
Why are you even injured? You could have saved her without depending on anyone, without putting anybody else in the line of fire.
Philonune gives you a sad smirk. “I know that feeling very well, partner. More than you could possibly know.” He could feel your impotence, yeah, but maybe he’s implying something else too?

What did Philo go through in his fall from heaven? Did the same thing happen to him a world away, a couple thousand years ago?

“Damn it…” You lay your head back down and start staring at the ceiling. It’s no use thinking these questions right now. In the meantime, Melodia sneaks by your side and uses you as her pillow. Hurts, but could be worse. You pet the kitty once again, hearing her purr loudly right next to you.
“If there is ever a moment for you to lie down and rest, it’s right now partner.” Philonune wants the best for you like everybody else.
“But there’s so many things I still need to do…” The nurse can come back any second to check on you. “I lost my girlfriend, everyone with an entity is injured or dying or dead, I can’t do shit ‘cause I almost died too – all in a week. Just one goddamn week…” You feel a small stinging ache from your hand. Without thinking you unclench your fist, stopping your nails from digging in your palm. “I need to turn this around quick, or I’ll lose my mind before I lose my life.”
“Meow!” Melodia believes in you! No wonder she was Neko’s favorite.

Fuck, even if the world is screaming at you to take a break, you can’t! Neko is in danger and there’s another individual you know who cares about her!

“Melodia?” You sit up again and pet the cat. The cat sits up too. Cute! “Is Neko in danger, or is she not in danger?”
“Meow…?” The cat doesn’t understand.

“T_T Neko, she’s okay right?” You don’t know why you are trying pantomimes with her, but you do so anyway! The cat stands up and proudly puts her paws on your right hand.
“Meow!” She seems to be happy with herself. Whatever sweet cuteness you’d normally feel from her affirming you’re her owner, you don’t have the energy to feel.
“No. Your real owner, T_T Neko.” You point to your glasses, then do a circular movement trying to convey the form of her glasses. “She’s in danger.”

“Meow…?” Oh no, Melodia looks worried! Wait, she understands you?
If you think about it, Neko knows how to talk to them. That means they should be developing some basic understanding of human language, shouldn’t it? No, that makes no sense if it’s all routed through her entity’s ability… But even so, you have to believe in Melodia. Sad as it is, a cat may be your only hope of saving Neko’s life!

“Yeah, meow! She’s in danger! You need to help her!”
“Meow! Meow!” She nods multiple times. Fuck. Either she really is understanding you, or awfully misunderstanding you. Whatever the case, the cat is ready to move. She jumps off the bed and runs up towards the window, pawing ineffectually at the lock a few times. The look you get back from her is almost human in how apologetic it seems.

“Oh god…” You need to open the window for her! Reminds you of Bradford Jr. in a way, which in turn reminds you of…

A-anyway, Melodia needs help! “Fuck it, I’m coming, hang on…” You pull your sheets aside and slowly turn your body towards the window…

“Partner, this is going to hurt.” Philonune warns you about the obvious.
“I know…” You muster your strength for a second and manage to stand on your own two feet!

It hurts.
It really hurts.
It’s unbearable, but you need to bear it to help Melodia. This could be the thing that means life or death for Neko! With one hand dragging your IV stand, the other clinging to the nearest wall, you take your first small step. It hurts more than any previous injury you have received… Every step is pure agony… Like it or not, you’re going to do this!

Melodia watches you struggle for a couple minutes as you finally reach the window. You open the window for her to jump on the frame. She meows once at you before leaving the building, almost a goodbye. You watch her run from the building when she gets down to the street…

The fuck a cat can do to save someone from killing themselves…? Too late to ask that now, you already took that decision. You struggle your way back to your bed… Now that all determination is gone, returning is even more painful.

You’re back to the ‘comfort’ of your hospital bed. The pain is alleviating just a little… You’re even sweating from so much punishment. Breathing is hard too… Maybe you should have been patient and waited for someone else to open the window. If you cover yourself, it’s not like anyone will notice…

Yes, your strategy is foolproof! Nobody will notice what you did!

“I’m feeling tired, and all I did was walk to the window and back…” Back to reality though.
Wait, you forgot to close the window! You hear someone approaching down the hall… Probably that nurse whose name you already forgot. Started with a T?

Now that the cat’s out of the bag… hospital? What will you do?

“Philo, can you peek out the door?” You look around but you can’t find him. “Philo…?”
“I’m here, partner!” Yeah, that’s Philonune’s voice.
“Uh… Where are you?”
“In front of you! Just throw me there and I will handle the rest!”

Philonune’s flame form is so pitifully small you’re barely able to see it! Says a lot about your current well-being, doesn’t it? You don’t think he’s going to be of much use in the time you have left before that person gets here… The steps get closer and closer, and the door finally opens!

A-ha!” It’s Yu Yan! She kicks the door open so hard the door hits the wall stopper. “Oh shit, you’re actually awake! Lucky me!”
“Yu Yan? What are you doing here?”
“Whaddaya mean what am I doin’ here? I’m here to pay you a visit, my charming wounded soldier.” Yu Yan grins that smug grin of hers. It’s almost… relieving, seeing that again.
“Where is everyone else?”

“They’re coming, stopped by the apartment first! I just snuck out to see you sooner. But more importantly, how’re you feelin’ amigo?” She sits on the chair next to you.
“Like absolute shit
“Doesn’t surprise me, you got tons of dangerous girls wanting a piece of you! And you’re already in pieces as it is, huh?” Yu Yan tries to give you an alluring look.

Her voice comes out jarringly dismal. “…So it was entirely my fault, wasn’t it?”

“What do you mean?” Where did this come from?
“Don’t play dumb. Another restless night made you do this stupid shit again, didn’t it?” Yu Yan’s expression does a 180. You weren’t expecting this kind of logic coming from her. “Keeping that a secret ended up almost killing you again. I’m sorry…” An apologetic Yu Yan?! Truly a sight to behold!
“I don’t think that has anything to do with whatever happened to me. I’m the only one at fault.”

“Bah, you’re only saying that to make me feel better…” Yu Yan doesn’t buy the truth for a second! “I want to repay you somehow. Not like I wasn’t in debt with you before, but… Look, what I want to say is for you to count on me. My loyalty is one of my best traits out of many – and all of them are positive. Like my blood. A+ I think?” She scratches her head. “I don’t even know what I’m saying right now…”

Didn’t she betray all the terrorists before her memory got wiped? It’s still good to know Yu Yan doesn’t hate you after your massive fuck-up.

Trent wasn’t all that useful, but Yu Yan has her chance to redeem herself! What do you want to ask her?

>“Does everyone hate me right now?”

“Did you go to Bradford’s funeral?”
“Yeah, doesn’t look like it?” She shows off her jacket. Right, she must’ve been one of the drum girls. “It was one of the big ones you hear about; Bradford’s family is really well-off! The caravan was majestic as hell, and the drum work was superb if I do say so myself.” Yu Yan looks a little too proud. Was she always this good at drumming? “I’ll never get used to the sluts though.”

(Funerals in Prancijan are a big parade in the name of the person who died!

A big platform carrying the casket roams from the deceased’s home towards the chosen cemetery. The immediate family is on the big platform while the parade is followed by their loved ones, friends, and others walking slowly by the side. If the family can’t rent a platform, they replace it with a car or horse-drawn caravan.

Aside from the casket, the platform is full of flowers to the point anyone can have trouble walking on it. Depending on how big it is, a bunch of big drums are also played by women close to the deceased.

If the family is wealthy enough, they bring other platforms and cars with pole dancers. This is an extremely weird tradition. Sadly you missed all that! Sucks to be you!)

What?! He even had the pole dancers?!?!” Your mother barely had a decent platform; half the flowers fell off the ride!
“I told you! Guy has some serious cash.” Yu Yan is doing the dollar-sign hand motion. “They were short on drummers, so I had to fill in! Guess fatso didn’t know too many girls.”
“Nice. I remember Amelia’s beat not being too great.” Granted, she was heartbroken ‘cause mom had just died…
“It’s a talent.

“It must have been tough on the others too. How are things going with them? What should I expect?” Now that the fun of a big funeral is gone, do they feel any different?
“Uff… You have a lot to tackle. I think it’s best if we go one by one. Yeah, uh… I don’t know. Who do you want to ask about first?”

Wait, she’s not going to just tell you outright? What’s she playing at?

“Why are you doing this? Can’t you just tell me about all of them straight up?”
Yu Yan looks back at the door briefly, then back at you. Is she nervous? “I don’t know how much time we have left, Mooriko could drop in here any second… There’s a certain teacher with big tits that wants to get in here too… Let’s make this quick! Pick one, anyone! It’s more fun for me that way!” Yu Yan raises her eyebrows in a cheeky way. At least she’s helping to get your mind off the aching pain…

“Amelia. Is she furious with me?”
“Furious isn’t the only thing. She’s a melting pot of emotions right now. Angry, distraught, depressed, you get the gist. It’s pretty bad… Nariko and I spent more time caring for her than for you.” Yu Yan’s playfulness disappears instantly. “She’s like an angry badger. A betrayed angry badger.”

Why is she comparing Amelia to a badger of all animals? Amelia loves bears! Why not use a bear? Or there is something about badgers you don’t know? Wait, that’s not the point.

“So she hates me.” Oh man…
“Yeah, it feels like that. I mean, as much you can hate someone you love…? She’s lying about not wanting to see you; I know for a fact she snuck in here at least twice. The important part is Amelia doesn’t think you care about her anymore.”
“What? That’s ridiculous!”

“Yeah, I said that too! But she thinks it’s easier for you to lie to her face because you don’t really care. I gotta say, I can totally see the logic behind that.” You have been a neglectful big brother in the past month and a half. “Also, I’ve never seen someone shit talk you the way she’s been doing lately. She’s absolutely furious half the time and the other times she’s just empty! And her sleep schedule is worse than mine now! I wake up to a cold sweat at two in the morning, go check on the others, and Amelia’s still awake. That bad.”
“What have I done…?” Fuck. Amelia has never done something this serious before.

“It’s been an emotional rollercoaster.” Yu Yan scratches the back of her head, gives an almost obnoxiously loud sigh, then continues talking. “Amelia… told us everything about your past. I have no idea how you’re managing to hold back about her father.”
“Wait, you mean everything?!
“Yeah. Amelia doesn’t need or want your approval to do anything anymore. I’m paraphrasing that by the way. It was waaaaaay harsher in person…”

The look on your face must be bad, because Yu Yan acts guilty all of a sudden. “Aw, come on! On the bright side, at least she trusts us!”

“So you know about my mom too…” No way out of that now.
“Yeah, we even paid a visit to her grave… Nariko thought it was a good idea, but I was like ‘girl what the fuuuuuuck is wrong with you, she’s not in a good place for a ride like that’ – and guess what, I was right! That didn’t help that all!” Yu Yan grumbles under her breath and rubs her forehead. “It’s hard to argue back against two emotional chicks, you know? Couldn’t change their minds if I tried any harder.”
“You have no idea; I have some big scars thanks to them.” You joke to hopefully lighten the mood somewhat. Yu Yan laughing tells you it worked, though it still doesn’t feel right…

“Which leads me to the next point: Nariko got her apartment! It’s one floor below yours!” Hey that’s good. “And we all moved with her!” Okay that’s unexpected.
“What? Even you? Why?”
“Amelia wants you out of her sight as much as possible! I’m super worried about her and the situation with her dad, so I’m tagging along to keep an eye on her for you. Those two think they can handle everything, but I know better.” She winks at you then puffs out her chest. “No need to thank me. You can keep holding your applause!”

“Thank you.” You say with as much genuine sincerity as possible when you’re under lots of pain.

“Oh… I, uh… didn’t think you would actually thank me. I was joking, hehe!” Yu Yan blushes hard. “That also meant I had to tell them about my sleeping problems… Which they both already knew about. Talk about making things awkward! Amelia’s helping me with that now, but it’s just not the same as having a stud to hold me at night.” Yu Yan raises her eyebrows, looking somewhere she shouldn’t.

“And how are you supposed to keep an eye on Amelia if this stud happens to come back?”
“Ehm… Plant a camera in her room? Those exist you know.”
“God damn it, I knew she would get mad at me. I didn’t know it was going to be this bad…”
“Keep in mind she was the one who found you. She didn’t know if you were going to survive and she hasn’t been able to sleep properly for days. Ames needs something going right for her, and seeing you is the first step.” Yu Yan looks you in the eyes. “I have no idea what you can tell her. I don’t think you’ll fix things that easy, and I think most of your fighting group is in the same boat. You have a lot of work to do.”

“I wish I had more time. I’m wasting what little I have stuck in this bed.”
“I’m here to help! We can work this out!” Yu Yan acts oddly reassuring. That’s good… “Uh… So nobody’s come here in yet? Anyone else you want to know about? We might get interrupted real soon.” Yu Yan nervously looks at the door behind her. Is Nariko the threat here?!

Who’s next? (Not Nariko.)

“How is Lise?”
“So I was right, you know what happened. Not wasting any time I see.” Yu Yan smirks. “…How much do you know?”

You briefly explain to Yu Yan everything that happened to you after you were attacked by Neko, including the whole interaction with Constance and Athelone. Including every little piece of information Trent gave you in a swift summary of events!

“Those are some spicy details, man! It explains what happened after too!” Yu Yan folds her arms and start nodding to herself. You just let her do that for half a minute, watching her go.

“So…”
“Oh right, my bad! Lise is in a wheelchair now. I know you have that look right now, and no, it ain’t permanent!” The smug hobo gives you a thumbs up while you rightfully gape in shock. “She had surgery and it’s going to take some months in rehab. They didn’t find any bullets or pieces in her, must’ve all went clean through. Lise spends all her time playing with Constance in her room now. Happiest she’s ever been, I think.”

“That’s adorable. But what do you mean with ‘that explains what happened after’?”

“Constance isn’t talking to her creepy monster nurse anymore. Thanks to that, Lise is keeping her temporary entity – since it helps heal her faster and all.”
“How is Lise coping with this?” Doubtful that Lise has ever been hospitalized or handicapped to this extent. You got close though – to getting your life crippled instead!
“You can tell the gal is a little sad since she ain’t regularly angry anymore, as the others told me. I didn’t chat with Lise too much so I don’t really know more than that. She gets plenty of visits from college friends and stuff. Kind of a supportive group.” She just shrugs. Oh yeah, Yu Yan never got any support until you and your friends, did she? Maybe that’s why she became a sociopathic terrorist…

You cradle your head in your hands. “I can’t believe my fuck up ended up involving her…” And she got crippled from it…
“Hey, hey, hey! Not everything’s your fault! You’re just… partially responsible. You ask me, I blame Osgood more.” Yu Yan tries to ease your guilt. It doesn’t help much. “Hey if you’re gonna keep beating yourself up inside, we can always pay her a visit. You can use a wheelchair, right? I’ll push you there!” Your walking pile of smug goes to pull up a wheelchair from the corner of the room.

“Every muscle and bone in my body is crying out in pain, Yu. Even my arms.”
“Didn’t you get mauled from the front? Why is your whole body hurting that badly?”

You pretend she didn’t just ask that. “…Maybe I should go see her. I owe her too.”

Suddenly you start hearing steps echo on the hallway’s tiles. Someone is approaching!

Yu Yan visibly freezes up for a second, then frantically starts looking around. “Uh-oh! Fuck that noise, I’m hiding! See ya!” Yu Yan hides under your bed. You can’t tell if it’s working or not because you’re on top and not the bottom. Wait, that didn’t come out right…
“Why? What’s going on? Is that Nariko?” What’s she afraid of? Your OG hobo won’t add on any extra injuries!
“Just don’t rat me out!” A small impact right under where you ass is does nothing to ease your pain. The bouncing hurts quite a lot…

The door finally opens, and it’s Nina! She’s wearing regular clothes and doesn’t look like a beautiful hot mess!

“Johnny…” Nina whispers in sweet relief as a smile appears on her face. If only she smiled more often…
“S’up.” You respond with the plainest greeting you can think of.
“I was so worried… Mr. Figg told me you were awake.” She sits where Yu Yan was sitting, oblivious to the unseen hobo within a meter of her. “How are you feeling?”

Ehm… If she doesn’t notice Yu Yan is here, the conversation can get awkward. What do you do?

>“Like absolute shit. Been happening a lot lately. I might have to go see a doctor or something.” Joke and pretend nothing is wrong. Nothing at all!
>“Ehm… Yu Yan, you don’t need to hide from her! Get out from under my bed already!” Be a filthy snitch! It’s nothing in the face of your suffering!
>“Nina, could you do me a big favor? I think Neko’s in trouble and I need you to check in on her.” You can get her to help Neko and keep Yu Yan unnoticed!
>“Nina, could you do me a favor and bring Constance here?” She can’t notice Yu Yan for some reason, and there’s a ‘two birds with one stone’ kind of deal here.
>“I’m sorry…” Get real, real fast! Own up to your tragic mistakes and be straight with your ex-girlfriend! It’ll be one less weight to hurt your bones, or something!

“Like absolute shit. Been happening a lot lately… I might have to go see a doctor or something.” You jest and pretend Yu Yan’s not even down there.
“Language, Johnny.” She unexpectedly jokes back at you! Then she starts caressing your hair very very gently. Reminds you of that one special night you had with her… “I was so worried…”
“My plan backfired again.” Understatement of the week!
“You’re far too kind to people, giving them too much benefit of doubt. But that’s what makes you who you are.” Nina moves to stroking your cheek.

Getting philosophical, huh? “I guess it does. I was banking on her good side and you know the rest.”
Nina grabs your hand in both of hers. “Johnny, you can’t make these types of bets so easily. You always forget about everyone else who cares about you, me included. You’re not alone! I’m not either, and–”

Those warm eyes of hers. Even though you’ve broken up, seeing the worry in there hurts more than what Neko did to you. “I thought you’d hate me over this, but you’re giving another chance?” Your voice comes out more tired than you expected.
“You couldn’t help it, could you? I guess it had to happen to you too, one of these days.” Nina’s self-hatred is showing again. You thought she was getting over that… “I understand.”

“What do you mean?”
“We trip over and over the same mistakes, thinking we won’t make them again. This is your turning point, right? I think I had mine after Icioba… did what he did. I think I’m really beginning to change now, instead of staying the same stick-in-the-mud I was until then.” She stops caressing you. There’s a fire in her eyes you don’t remember seeing. “We’re not who we used to be, but that doesn’t mean we can’t care for each other! I—”

”Not who we used to be…?” That’s Yu Yan’s voice! You bounce on your bed just to shut her up.

“Be careful!” Nina goes back to worrying, checking you immediately. “If you do that again you can open your wounds!”
“Yeah, if I do that again I can Open. My. Wounds.” You hopefully drive the point home at the smug machine down below.
“Are you seriously okay? Am I bothering you?” Nina doesn’t understand what’s going on. “M-maybe it was careless of me to think you’d want to talk to me again, I—” Nina gets flustered and worried, just like old times!

“Don’t worry. It’s not that.”If she really felt that way, she wouldn’t have wanted to keep her distance from you, or even break up. “…What were you saying again?”
>>
>>3008455

“I’m sorry, I’m a little nervous and I know you went through a lot.” She blushes hard! Adorable! Good thing you’re in plenty of pain or you’d start enjoying this a little too much… “Ehem, I know you’re being rather harsh on yourself after all you went through, but I think we can turn the page together, be better from now on – help each other to not make such foolish decisions. You gave me so many chances, so many opportunities… I think you deserve the same from me, or even more! I want to help you. Johnny.” She clasps your hand in hers, making you feel the same warmth you used to feel with her…

Nina has opened her heart to you again! Not romantically, but it’s something emotional regardless!

How do you respond to Nina?

>“I thought it was obvious, Nina. It was always up to you and everyone else to forgive me.”
>“So business as usual, huh? I’m glad we can still work together Nina.” Shake her hand!
>“So how are you planning to help me? I want to hear whatever you’re thinking.”
>“I would love to do that Nina, but you still need your time alone. It can wait.” No pressure.
>“Maybe we should leave this conversation to later…” One finger at your mouth, another pointing down. Hint hint!

“I thought it was obvious, Nina. It was always up to you and everyone else to forgive me.” You admit your fault immediately, Nina’s eyes starting to shine. “And I would love to do that, but you still need your time alone. It can wait.” Nina’s spark fades as quickly as it comes! She shakes her head, smiling and nodding in spite of how sad she feels. It hurts you too, though you know this is something she needs.
“You’re right. I need to sort out myself first. But—”

“But more importantly, we should leave this conversation to later…” One finger at your mouth, another pointing down. Your clueless ex-girlfriend tilts her head in confusion, then you see the realization dawn on her face. Veeeery slowly, Nina gets off her seat and peeks under the bed. Her expression, what little of it you see from your bed, changes hilariously to something very annoyed.

“Hehe… Hi…?” Yu Yan’s cover is blown! Nina’s mannerisms were subtle enough to trick Yu Yan into thinking Nina found her on her own merits. Instead of keeping quiet about it, she broke the disguise head-on!
“May I have some sort of explanation here?” Her teacher voice is back with a vengeance!
“I was expecting someone taller… Since you two were having a moment together, I decided to keep quiet.”
Nina’s skepticism is in full force. “I wonder what you did to get yourself in trouble again. Another prank? Another tasteless joke of yours, hmmm?” She knows full well the extent of Yu Yan’s malice. Getting up, she turns to you. Oh boy. “And you, Johnny. Why are you helping her?”

You resort to the honest truth: “My head isn’t working all that great right now. I’m just glad it still works at all. My bad.”

Nina takes a deep breath. “…I’m going to let it slide because I’m happy you’re okay, mister.” Great, you survived!
“Cool. You’re not so bad yourself, teach!” Yu Yan winks at her as she crawls out.
“You didn’t hear anything here, okay lady?” Nina glares at Yu Yan, who silently nods with her usual smug smile. “Tch… This was so embarrassing…” Nina gets all red and tries to cover her face. Keyword being ‘tries.’

Might as well take the chance to interrupt them. “Ehm… We should head over to Lise. I need to start apologizing, she’s next door, it’s a good start.” The ladies help move you to the wheelchair.

After the shortest of trips, you arrive at Constance’s room – where Lise should supposedly be too!

Uh…

You weren’t expecting this many people here! Constance, Lise, Henry, Trent, Richard, Bradford Jr., and Osgood are all here! It’s so awkward because everyone is staring at you! You can even feel Yu Yan and Nina stiffen up behind your wheelchair! Constance’s smile snaps you out of the shock. You should say something…

How are you going to break the awkward ice?

>“Hi everyone, how’s it goin’?”

With all the strength left in your body, you move your arm back and drag Yu Yan forward.

“Eeek!” Yu Yan shrieks, putting herself in the spotlight. Everyone’s staring at her now instead of you. She’s starting to feel the pressure. “W-why is everyone staring at us? Say something people! Like hi!
“Hi!” Constance waves happily!
“Pfft… Hahaha!” Lise starts laughing on her own. The atmosphere still as awkward as before. This doesn’t go unnoticed. “Oh, I’m sorry… Didn’t know laughing was illegal around here.” Now she’s angry. Great!

“So how’d befriending Neko go for you? I can see she left you some scars.” Richard is mocking you like the dick he is. “I gotta say, I didn’t expect her to be into that. Or you to be into that.”
“Mr. Wright, I would kindly warn you to watch your tongue.” Nina immediately cuts him off.
“That was uncalled for, Richard!” Henry backs you up too! You’re not alone here!

“I had some… unexpected consequences.” Understatement of the week!

Richard walks right up to you. His previous snide amusement at your expense is gone. “Jokes aside, what exactly happened between the two of you? I know you were stupid enough to ask everyone to leave you alone with her. Granted, I left you two alone for a while and nothing happened, but if my memory serves me right… she was tied up when I left. That’s enough from me, now answer already.” Richard starts interrogating you on the spot! This is a clinic, not a police station!

“Yo give the guy some space, you dick. He just woke up and wanted to see how everyone was doing.” Yu Yan stops whatever Richard was going for.
“A little too late to care now, don’t you think?” Osgood does nothing to hide the resentment and disgust from his voice. He’s kinda right…
“We’re waiting for the others anyway, no need to rush.” Henry yawns, watching the street out the window.

“I think everyone here is positively dying to know why Johnny ended up like this. Please, indulge us. Tell the class the reason for your failure.” Richard gives you your cue, adjusting his tie. He’s enjoying this way too much for a professional detective, but there’s nothing you can do about it.
“You sound like such a fucking prick, like holy shit…” Lise mutters between her grit teeth, making Constance giggle.

“Damn white flame users…” Philonune couldn’t hold it anymore! Sure Richard isn’t as bad as other white flame users, but damn if he doesn’t have the same self-righteous attitude in his own way!

and if we get pushed for more answers, go with

since it's pretty obvious Johnny feels guilt over it, but only once everyone gets here. When that happens, we should apologize for not being able to lend support when everyone needed it, as well as acting too dumb to live.

That said, I think us stepping down is going to lead to more dead friends if what happened while we were out is any indication (although leading from a hospital bed isn't exactly "leading" either). Acting super defensive is going to make fewer people trust us, and lashing out at Richard is also going to make fewer people trust us and/or more enemies, so any responses that directly antagonize him for the sake of feeling justified is probably a bad idea (I'd leave out the lines about Richard and about dinner from >>3009276 for a good template, since the whole dinner thing makes us sound like a sociopath.) I think Amelia was the one who saw Neko call an ambulance, so I'm not sure if we'd know about that detail. In fact, I don't think we even know how we ended up in the clinic in the first place.

We gotta dance a fine line now.

>>
>>3010216
As much as I wanna back you, I'm keeping my vote because Johnny needs to at least get some self-respect back. What happened to Bradford was literally not his fault at all. The only thing Johnny did wrong was getting stabbed by Neko and almost dying like a retard. Chalk up him calling Richard out on that bullshit to Johnny being in enough pain to not care, or something.
>>
>>3010313
I agree that we definitely need to build some self respect, but I don't think throwing shade in front of people is going to achieve that goal without it making an enemy or two when being tactful can get the job done without making us look like an ass. I'm not suggesting we go full "oh shit we done fucked up please forgive me Richard," but I'd rather gloss over the details in the company of others until pressed and have him look like an asshole for leaving us to dry than us throwing accusations, justified or not, which would make us look like a complete loose canon or absolutely petty.

“I didn’t come here to discuss this right now, Richard. Let’s wait for the others first before you start your routine.” You owe it to everyone who’s missing too.
“Delay it as much as you want, it’s not going to change a thing.” Richard gives you a cheeky smile. Ugh…
“It’s not about that; everyone deserves to know the truth.”

“I can see why nobody in the police force liked you.” Lise comments again between her teeth, loud enough to be heard this time. Richard just glares back.

In the meantime, you began chatting with Nina, Yu Yan, Lise, Constance and Henry. It appears Lise’s flame is on her butt. You never thought about the logic behind the placement of flames, but this is ridiculous! You immediately asked Lise how she’s doing and apologized profusely. She explained to you she had an bike accident years ago so she’s used to being in a wheelchair.

Before the conversation could get a little spicier or even have your apology acknowledged, the others arrived! Nariko, Matilda and Amelia are here!

The atmosphere in the crowded room goes dead silent the same way it did when you arrived. Everyone is staring at Amelia. The blank tired expression on her face is saddening to you as a brother. This is the coldest reception you’ve ever had from her.

“I’m glad you’re okay.” Amelia’s defeated monotone says otherwise. She walks away immediately and sits on Constance’s bed, now effectively ignoring you. Nina walks towards your broken sister, leaving Yu Yan in charge of your wheelchair
“W-wait.” You tried to stop her, but your sister doesn’t care anymore.
“Glad to see you pulled through.” Matilda says without much emotion on her voice either. Just like always.
“Dear Ando, what you did was wholly irresponsible, and—” Nariko tries to convey her feelings on the matter but gets interrupted by a certain dick.

“As much as you need the consolation for your own insecurity, please leave this to later. Johnny here promised us to tell us all about his failure now. We were just waiting for you to arrive.” Richard rudely interrupts this awkward reunion, earning him a scornful look from Nariko.
“Yes, that would be great.” Osgood agrees, folding his arms.

“Fine.” Yu Yan moves you to the center of the room so everyone can see you.

Everyone is staring quietly at you, waiting for your statement. Amelia, Nina, Osgood, Nariko, Matilda, Constance, Henry, Lise, Trent, Richard, Yu Yan and Bradford Jr. What a group!

“I couldn’t just watch her getting tied up and interrogated. That’s too cruel for me.” You begin your explanation with some sympathy.

“Doesn’t make any sense that you decided to stay and play nice with the enemy. We had her under control and we got everything we needed. I have to ask why again.” Richard is bemused but his grin stays intact.
“For fuck’s sake, Johnny!” Osgood was already furious with you like you expected. “What the fuck, man?!”

Somewhere in the back of your head there is a snapping noise.

“Bradford dying wasn’t my fault, okay?! He left us to help WILDFLAME without a single word to anybody else, and he didn’t have an entity either to protect himself.” Stating the obvious should be enough, but Richard smirks with a gotcha smile. Did you just play into his hand? What’s his deal here?!
You can see the pure expression of betrayal in Osgood’s eyes, taking the opportunity to continue. “Even if it wasn’t my fault, I still blame myself for Bradford’s death and I don’t think I’m fit to be in any position of this group. Whatever you do with me is up to you.”

Osgood’s stare judges you deep inside. After about a minute of cold judgment, he sighs out. “We’ll see about that, but you’re not the only one to blame here.” His ruthless gaze turns on Richard now. “Bradford’s death is as much your fault as it is his, Richard. You were there as a three-man unit and you couldn’t even check if my friend was alright, you stupid sack of shit!” He points right at Richard!
The detective is unmoved. “I left after my work was done, Whatever happened after was somebody else’s problem. I, in fact, came back and helped your convoluted plan when it was already backfiring. If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t be standing here whining to my face.” Richard retorts with his own argument!

“An incoherent plan I had to sort out in the end as well, I’ll have you know.” The sheer disdain coming off Nariko as she throws that shade…
“My own shortcomings made the plan fail. My apologies, his blood is on my hands.”
“Sister, we were there as backup AND we went in unprepared. We have no idea what we were getting ourselves into…” Lise backs up Matilda. Guess they’re sharing their guilt together… “And I was the one who dropped him…” Lise’s hands visibly shake.

Osgood closes his eyes and clenches his fists, face wracked in anguish. He turns in place and points at your morose sister.

“I didn’t have any time to come up with anything better on the spot! We had to move fast before it was too late — and it wasn’t too late — which didn’t help! And you know what didn’t help either? Having someone else there who didn’t want to help us!” Is he blaming Amelia now?!

“I regret nothing. I was right, Johnny was dying.” Your sister explains in a weary voice, as if she’s had to tell the same thing multiple times to multiple people. “Bradford got himself into that situation, and he’s the only one to blame for his own death. Simple as that.”
“Well your retarded brother almost got himself killed too, and he’s still here alive and kicking. Why couldn’t Bradford get another chance, huh?!” Osgood throws the argument back at her.

It’s like everyone failed in one way or another. What an awful day that was…

Nina starts clapping and getting everyone’s attention. “Calm down everyone! Emotions are running high and with good reasons. We need to get a hold of ourselves and do this right, or we’re not going to get anywhere. Like we talked before Johnny and Lise woke up, we have two topics to sort out first, and then you can vent all you want."
“That’s fine by me.” Henry raises his thumb, surprisingly unaffected.

“I’m going to count you two as members of the team also, understand?” Nina points at Richard and Trent. Richard nods and Trent just shrugs.

Nina continues talking in full lecturing mode. “Johnny filled the position of a leader of sorts because we were too lax for anyone else to take charge. Some of you have expressed the need for an official leader. While I don’t agree completely, the voting was in overwhelming favor of having one.” Nina looks at everyone one by one. “We can vote for one now, or vote for what Johnny’s position will be in the group.”

“Wouldn’t the leader decide that? You pick your own gang. Why waste our time to decide Johnny staying or not, if the decision can be overruled if anyone bitches hard enough?” Trent has a valid point. He’s been doing this longer, hasn’t he…
“Langu—”
“We could give the decision to the boss or to the group. Make it so the new boss can’t overrule. O-or else it isn’t worth a shit like you say.”

Nina gives both Henry and Trent an ‘are you just going to say that?’ look, then composes herself. “Then the decision is up to you all. If the leader gets chosen first, he will be responsible for letting Johnny stay or not, otherwise we will decide as a group. So let’s vote! Raise your hands for…”

Oh shit, it’s time to vote!

What do you vote for?!

“…voting to keep Johnny in the group or not, first thing.” Most people raise their hand. Ouch!

“Excuse me. While you all vote could I have a little chat with Richard in private, please?” You ask the secretary Nina for permission. Stealing her thunder isn’t too good though…
“Hmm…? What’s this about?” You’ve got Richard’s attention now.
“Surely that can wait? We need everyone’s input for this.” Nina doesn’t seem too into the idea.
“I must object! The point of this reuni—” Nariko tries to say something.

Richard smiles brightly at Nariko, halting her train of thought. Compared to how he’s been lately, it’s disarming.

“I’ll humor him. I’ve poisoned this group’s dynamic enough as it is. Besides, my curiosity gets the best of me sometimes.” He chuckles in a disturbingly good-natured way, drawing stares from a few of the others. “Hasn’t killed me yet though.”
“No way, amigo. He’s my responsibility. Sorry, but you ain’t goin’ anywhere alone with him.” Yu Yan puts a hand on your shoulder and does a cool thumbs-up!

Richard’s smile refuses to yield! Suddenly, your wheelchair moves forward out of Yu Yan’s hands, turns in place, and rolls up to the door. Is he using his power?!

“You won’t be needed.” You turn your head in time to catch Richard glaring at Yu Yan. Your stubborn hobo walks over to you and tries to push your wheelchair. “I’m going anyway.” It doesn’t budge! The wheels don’t move an inch!
“Let her.” Hopefully he understands the warning in your voice. You turn to Nina. “I think it’s going to be easier for everyone to make this decision if I’m out of the room.”

“Johnny, are you sure about this?” Nina’s still as worried as ever. Everybody else watches this happen, even Amelia…

“It’s alright.” You tilt your head towards Richard, then at the door. “Let’s go to my room, and let Yu Yan push me there please.”
The detective suddenly looks a few years older and more tired. “Do as you please.” The wheelchair startles forward immediately! Yu Yan barely avoids falling from behind you!

“What are you planning to do?” Yu Yan whispers in your ear.
“Just talk.” If you could shrug, you would have.
“Sure big guy, sure…”

Another short trip back to your room. Only you, Philonune, Yu Yan and Richard…

“We’re here.” Richard looks around, as if inspecting for a trap of some kind. “A conversation is a two-way street, and you’re the one who wanted this. What is it?”

How do you start?

>“What’s your deal here? What do have to gain from doing all this irritating stuff?”
>“Me helping Neko got you this mad, or is there something else you’re hiding from us?”

“Yu, please leave us two guys alone.”
“No.”
“Please?”
“Nope.”
“Aw, come on!”
“Nuh uh.”
“Just this once?”
“Do I have to remind you what happened the last time we left you alone, three days ago?”

“I don’t know what kind of guy you think I am, but I’ll swear on my badge, gun, and reputation if it makes you feel better.” Richard displaying the little honor he has.
“Do it, and on your knees too.” Yu Yan takes her phone and pulls up the camera app… Is she really going to do this here?
Richard’s face rapidly becomes a light shade of red. “Ehm… No, I swear I won’t do anything to Johnny Ando! Isn’t that good enough?!” Is the ace detective being flustered?
“I said on your knees.” Feels a little cathartic seeing him mocked like this.

“Yu Yan, enough please. I’ll be fine.” You cover her phone with your hand. Sudden movements hurt.
“Last time you said that you—”
“I get it! I get it! This time will be different though.”

“Your promises don’t hold weight, Johnny. You probably lost like 15 pounds over three days of being stuck here anyhow.” Yu Yan throws the heaviest of shades! You’d collapse under it if you weren’t sitting in a wheelchair.

“Ha, so you lost trust with your peers? Guess I’m not the only one going through that. The ones I knew didn’t deserve any trust to begin with though, so what do I know?” Richard’s taking that suspension of his well. Or maybe he’s distracting himself…
Yu Yan walks back to the door. “Pfft… Just as a ‘fuck you’ to you I’m going to leave you two be. I’ll be walking around the hall if you need me.” She winks at you again.
“Right, sorry about this.”

Yu Yan leaves the room. You know her well enough to know she’s eavesdropping on you right now.

“So… finally alone.” Richard goes back to his usual smug self.
You raise your eyebrow. “Me helping Neko got you this mad, or is there something else you’re hiding from us?”
Richard scoffs at you. “What a ridiculous premise, even coming from you. Johnny it’s true I don’t know you very well, but I thought you were going to be more receptive to criticism. I’m disappointed.
“So you are hiding something.”

“I’m not hiding anything! Is it really this hard to understand I’m being honest? I did have a little bit of hope though, hope in you making an argument that could make some sense, any amount of sense. But nooooo, your supposedly ‘chivalrous’ attitude almost killed you. What was the point of befriending Neko in the first place? You accomplished nothing from this except ruin your relationships with everyone you care about.” Richard’s going ham! He’s not stopping! “Look, if you don’t want me here on your side, then who am I to object? But I’ll tell you straight up…” He tightens his tie. The look he gives you reminds you of yourself.

“Come Judgment Day, I’m protecting Constance Strangelove whether you want me to or not. The whole world’s survival depends on it.”

His serious demeanor drops quick. “Besides, I have a feeling the one getting kicked out of here will be you and not me.

It’s like his irritating smugness is on a level beyond Yu Yan’s! Right next to you, Philonune has on a strained smile.

How do you respond to this overconfident asshole?

>“You’re right, I fucked up. And I know it won’t happen again. I think we can leave this behind us and work together to protect Constance.” Everything he does might get on your nerves, but he’s still a good guy…
>“We could have her as an ally if you didn’t throw a temper tantrum. What are you, twelve? You don’t understand how much you fucked that up for us. You’re to blame here too, so stop acting so self-righteous and start helping for real.”
>“Constance will be fine without your help, Richard. You’re not welcome here anymore. I hope you use your detective skills to help the other Judges and stay away from us.” Give him an ultimatum!
>“I don’t have anything to say to you. We’re strictly business partners and nothing else, so spare me the condescending attitude. If you expect me to be anything more than that, you got another thing coming.”

“We could have her as an ally if you didn’t throw a temper tantrum. What are you, twelve? You don’t understand how much you fucked that up for us. You’re to blame here too, so stop acting so self-righteous and start helping us for real.” This boy needs a reality check.
“She mocked my family and she was responsible for my brother’s death. If you knew who killed your mother, would you stand by and do nothing?”

He doesn’t know that’s what you’ve been doing so far. No, you can’t get distracted with that here, not in front of him…

“Do you really think she was responsible for the explosion? Did you even bother to figure out the whole truth? You only wanted a justification to lash out at her and leave!”
“I have work to do. I had to analyze the information she had. That’s called ‘being truly useful.’ You know what isn’t? Getting yourself killed like an idiot.”
He’s still avoiding this?! “Don’t change subjects! We’re talking about your fuckups, not mine! You wanted to give me constructive criticism? Then you should be able to take your own damn medicine.” Now you’re angry. “You’re supposed to be a detective, aren’t you? How the hell does that work? How did you even get this job being this much of an ass?! ‘Ace Defective’ is more like it!” High-five brain, that’s a good one!

For the briefest of moments, you see the annoyance flash on his face. The comeback worked!

“Keep your petty insults to yourself, Johnny Ando. Understand the difference between us. I got to my position with results, effort, and my own skills. I’m a prodigy at what I do. I should be at the very top if it weren’t for incompetent, lazy has-beens ignorant of true justice holding me back in this putrid country!” He draws closer and points at your bed. He’s breathing hard; probably got too heated over those ideals of his. You avoid looking at him as much as you can. “You know where your skills get you? Half dead in a hospital bed with everyone you love lamenting the fact you failed them. Again. Do I have to make myself clear? You’re beneath me.
“You—”
“I haven’t finished yet! You can either die drowning in your own mediocrity, or leave this farce behind us and try to be a better man in my shadow. I swear I’ll help, I swear I won’t mock you any longer — maybe one day we will be equals, with the world safe around us. You and your friends aren’t exactly ‘world saving’ material, but I can take you all to another level. Count on that.”
>>
>>3011787

He’s trying awful hard to be convincing. How do you respond?

>“Nice speech. I have no idea what you stand for or what you want. And even if I did, that’s all meaningless. I won’t help you.”
>“Not the proper way to ask for help. And I’m not interested in walking in your shadow either, but we can work together.”
>“Ignoring everything I said. That’s perfect. You know who really killed your brother, but instead lashed out at a mentally unstable girl. Nice going. You truly are above me.”
>“I’m going to guess you always work alone, right? ‘Cause with that attitude I can’t see it another way. Work on your recruitment skills, because I know for a fact you’re going to be alone in this war if you keep being like this.”

“Johnny, stay calm. Don’t let a coward lead our path.” Philonune couldn’t keep quiet any longer again! This time to say something useful and right! Richard taunting wasn’t working as swiftly as he was thinking to begin with.

“Ignoring everything I said, huh? That’s just perfect. You know who really killed your brother, but you instead lashed out at a mentally unstable girl, laying on the trauma. Nice going. You’re truly above me.” Sarcasm. Your greatest weapon other than Philonune. “I know exactly who killed my mother and why, but I’m mature enough to keep that shit on the backburner. My friends need me more than my mother needs revenge, and nothing is going to change that.”
Keeping Amelia safe was more important, preparing for the war was more important, dealing with your hobos was more important, helping your friends with their problems was more important.

Everyone else was more important to you than beating your stepfather into a bloody pulp.

“You cope with that?!” Richard for once is completely taken aback! Now’s the time to drive the point home…
“I do. I have to prepare for the ‘Judgment Day’ as you called it, to help everyone. Well, uh… I can’t do much about it right now.” Whoopsies…

Richard shakes his head. Must have recovered his train of thought. “I could have done worse than what I did to Neko, and you know it. And you expect it. I had my priorities straight, unlike you. ‘Preparing to fight?’ Yeah, right…” Richard still believes he has the moral high ground. He’s straight delusional at this point, though it sounds awfully like he’s convincing himself at this point. “You don’t know me. You don’t know jack shit.”
“So? That’s not enough. You may be better than a lot of your old coworkers, but you fail on a personal level that gets equally bad results as me.” You give him a pitying look, watching him grate under it. “How often would you walk out in a tantrum and expect your ‘skills’ to keep you on the force, to do anything close to helping people? You said it yourself, you don't even enjoy helping others – you only did it ‘cause your little brother thought you were cool. So stop acting like you’re above everyone around you when you can’t hold a single conversation with a cripple without breaking down.”

“Ha! Don’t flatter yourself! My ‘errors,’ if you can call them that, are nothing like what you’ve done so far!” Richard’s ego is enormous. “We’re not even close to the same level.” Well, guess which of you two still has living siblings.
Wait! Don’t say that! Keep it to yourself! Keep it together!

“Dude, we are all human, we all have faults and we all do shitty things sometimes. You’re no different. As someone who let’s their pride get the better of me just as much, lemme tell you: the sooner you accept how shit you are, the sooner you can get some goddamn compassion and even start to consider yourself a decent person – let alone better than me or anyone in that other room.” He needs to get this in his head already. “This wasn’t the proper way to ask for help, and I’m not interested in walking in your shadow either. This doesn’t mean we still can’t work together. As equals. What do you say?” You hold your hand out to him. It’s up to him if he takes the handshake.

Richard can barely keep it together inside. His eyelid is twitching and his fingers can barely keep still. Referring to you two as equals might be too much of an offense to him? You weren’t taunting him the way he’s been doing to you. “…I won’t let something like this get the best of me. I need some time to work this out. We will work together Johnny Ando. Allies in this war are hard to come by as it is. Even if I think little of you, I’ll give you the chance to change my mind later.” He loosens his tie. There’s some sweat on his forehead… “Now if you’ll excuse me, I need some water…”

He storms off out of the room, causing an eavesdropping Yu Yan to flail around and fall on her butt. She crawls inside the room, watching the detective go. Philonune chuckling near your ear is a sure sign you’ve won this argument. You feel better already!

“What was his problem? How’d you piss him off that much with what you said? I-I mean… I wonder why he left like that! Hehehe…” Yu Yan is not fooling anyone. At least you find it funny.

That’s one problem out of the way. Next up is the other room, where your fate on the team awaits you…

Sadly this is all we have for this thread! See you next time! Thanks for playing!

Osgood is shifting blame on Johnny because deep down he knows it's his fault and the last time he tried to take responsibility for something he tried to kill himself.

Osgood invited Bradford and insisted he join and while everyone else was reluctant, we eventually agreed. Bradford was useless, fat and annoying until he figured out his power. But he was a spy and he died as a consequence. If Osgood hadn't dragged him into the group NONE of this would have happened. Osgood killed him and he is doing everything he can to ignore this fact.

Bradford didn't contact anyone and often was away on his own, just as he was this time. Johnny dying just happened to coincide with this shit and is the only thing he can blame other than himself. It makes no sense because it isn't sensible.

What you should ask is why no one calls him on this shit- did he convince the others too? Why did they let themselves be convinced? Are they thinking he's an idiot but don't speak up because they think even less of Johnny than of him?
>>
>>3015362
I'd assume because most of them didn't think of Bradford as stupid, fat, and annoying. Johnny also has A WAY worse history of doing dumb shit and not being called on hard enough. None of this would've happened if Johnny just took TT Neko in when he had the chance. They all would have loaded up in the van and left.
