”A Knight is Sworn to Valour. His Heart Knows Only Virtue. His Blade Defends the Helpless. His Might Upholds the Weak. His Word Speaks Only Truth. His Wrath Undoes the Wicked.”Every child in Cantôn knows of the Knight’s Code. From peasant-born waifs playing with sticks in the mud to keen-eyed noble sons practicing with cold steel in the training yard, all have at the very least dreamed of one day becoming a knight themselves. To ride out on errantry into the Five Duchies Kingdom and beyond for God and Glory, bringing the Law of Adam to the wicked and the Blade of Cain to the beast. The Knights of Cantôn are sworn to follow the Code, to obey the King, to refuse no call for aid honestly asked for, to seek out and destroy the Foe wherever it may lurk and rid the world of evil. Were it so easy…--------------------------------------------------------------------Twitter: https://twitter.com/BlackCompany666/qst/ Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Sworn%20to%20ValourOur Knight & Companions Pastebin: Faith & Politics Pastebin: https://pastebin.com/Cu4FPGVMFoes, Foreigners & Monsters Pastebin: https://pastebin.com/nXwzHGGaBlack Company: Before this thread has run its course.
>>3018178One stormy winter night, many years from now. Not far from home.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buOz6-bSTpQ”And so ends the tale of the tall and noble knight, whose death came with quite a fright.” The wandering troubadour strums sadly on his lute, recounting the short and sorry story of the Ambitious Aubres Knight. ”Remind yourself, whenever you wander, that humility you should never squander.”Murmured applause greets the end of his account, interrupted only by the sobbing of the freckled face girl at the table. ”You promised it would have a happy ending!””I made no such promises, little one.” The wanderer shakes his head sorrowfully, understanding of the young lasses displeasure. ”We have a great many tales in Cantôn of Knights overcoming great odds and living happily ever after. Perhaps too many, for we sometimes forget that the threats these protectors of our lands face are very real and very dangerous. For every nobleson that emerges victorious and covered in glory, twice his number have paid the ultimate price. Some among friends, some alone and in the dark. It is a lesson worth remembering.”A wolf’s howl finishes the troubadour’s lesson, cutting through the winds outside. Worried gasps and mutters from the tavern patrons follow, the Twin Sisters rise high tonight.”Worry not, goodfolk. No matter how fiercely the beast howls, you will always find these noble men of Cantôn willing to stand betwixt you and they.” The stranger says, taking a sip from the mug proffered by the burly innkeep. It is a not-so-subtle indication that it’s time for another story, hopefully one with an altogether brighter lesson to it…

>>3018183One sunny spring day, present time. On the fertile fields of Romaine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYcMZo4GmLo"Mikail, if you really want to be a knight you have to think before you speak. A knight's words carry weight." You shake your head, that boy has a long way to go.The boy looks crestfallen, but nods shamefacedly. Jerod leans in closer though you miss most of what he mutters to your squire as you direct your steed back in formation.”…’n if I -ever- hear you putting that foot of yours in your mouth again in fron of ‘is lordship…” You remind yourself to go easy on the boy when you can, he’s been bred for heavy lifting not soft talk. You suppose he had only been trying to pay some crude compliment, it’s not the first time folk have made mention of your exceptional height and athletic build. As a squire yourself you towered over your peers, all dreaded a bout against you in the tiltyard. Not a few grown men of average height find themselves talking to your chin. Still, the boy’s comment was out of line and unworthy of an apprentice knight. You just hope you can teach him enough to keep the both of you out of trouble.Any further thoughts of your clumsy squire are banished by the sight of the Foe in the field before you. A small band, prowling too late in the winter, your Father has been hunting them for days since the first sightings."Jerod, leave it be. We have more pressing matters at hand."[1/2]

>>3018193[2/2]Weidergǟngers. The Deadmen. Or their minions at least.Apparently folk in the other duchies believe the walking dead to be slow and clumsy, an easy foe that Romaine somehow struggles to defeat. It is far from the truth. The Deadmen are fast, sluggish yes, but more than capable of gnawing a man’s face off should he find himself unready for assault. Some seem capable of using weapons, though you’ve never understood whether it was by design or some holdover on their previous life. You cannot deny that there is a hungry intelligence in these disgusting, rotting corpses. You’ve seen it firsthand, and all the more ferociously when their fell masters are near.”We have them now! For God and Glory!” Your father brandishes his sword, the first into the fray. You do not hesitate to follow, stirring your own Hannibal forward to the beat of scores of other cavalrymen.”Ursen! Ursen!” It’s an old word that the men clamour as the charge begins, from before Cain and Adam ever made landfall in Cantôn. The men-at-arms are simple commonfolk, sometimes they take comfort in the superstitions of their upbringing. Ursen, the Bear Spirit, to grant them strength. The warcry gets the Deadmen’s attention alright, as if the charge of hooves would not. The Weidergǟngers swarm in response. There’s no uncanny level of coordination in their ranks that is evidence of their dread lords, but these creatures are threatening enough when left to their own devices.Father traveled in force in preparation of this, your forces have a distinct advantage over theirs. Despite the imminent skirmish barely numbering more than a few-score either side, it is still the largest battle you have ever participated in.You grin savagely as you ready your blade forward as a proxy short lance, ready to show Father what you’re made of.------------------------------------------------------------------------>“Ursen!” [Belligerent Charge: Exchange of Blows does not inflict damage; +1 Damage to Foe if any unsaved damaged is inflicted; +1 Dismount Severity]>“Cleanse the Rot!” [Audacious Charge: Halve AV (Rounding up); Each point of unsaved damage to Foe is doubled; +2 Dismount Severity]

>Quick overview of Battle Progress mechanicsWe already have some understanding of the personal combat system. Battle Progress is somewhat similar, and is rolled using 3d100 in conjunction with personal combat.Battle Progress starts at 5, regardless of the strength and morale of the two sides (these factor into the DC). Barring exceptional circumstances, I will generally not divulge the full breakdown of why a DC is higher or lower beyond numeric superiority and quality of troops. Later in the quest, you yourself may make a significant contribution should you call upon allies and vassals that you have made along your journey. As rolls are made in each combat round, the result is added or subtracted to the Battle Progress score. 1 is Defeat and 10 is victory. Results lower than 1 are a disorderly rout and those higher than 10 is a decisive blow that can result in further rewards and glory.Doomed = 10DC (9 Humanoid Foes or 2-3 Monsters)Hard Pressed = 30DC (7 humanoid Foes or 1-2 Monster and some Foes)Evenly Matched = 50DC (5 humanoid Foes or 1 Monster)Overwhelming Force = 70DC (3 humanoid Foes)Certain Victory = 90DC (1 humanoid Foe)Critfail = -3 Battle Progress, Companion rolls AV.0 Success = -2 Battle Progress.1 Success = -1 Battle Progress.2 Success = +1 Battle Progress.3 Success = +2 Battle ProgressCrit Success = +3 Battle Progress, 1 Foe instantly slain.Double Fail = +1 Humanoid Foe.Double Pass = +1 Companion (temporary). >Affecting Battle ProgressEmerging victorious adds to the Battle Progress DC in the following round. This may represent your unit breaking through the lines, holding a desperate defence as required, isolating a pocket of foes or removing some leader from the fray.Skirmish level (dozens to scores of combatants) =+10DCBattle level (hundreds to thousands of combatants) = +5DCMassive Battle (thousands upon thousands of combatants) = +2DCUpon concluding a personal combat encounter you have the option to retire from the frontline without dishonour. Usually this will give you a chance to recover one degree of wellbeing. Injured becomes wounded, wounded becomes battered etc. Battle will continue to rage as you do this, and you may return to the fray or continue to seek aid if your tending was unsuccessful (wounds being harder to redress than injuries and so on). This may not always be an option, especially in charges breaking through the Foe lines. You must understand that it is perfectly possible to fight like a man possessed and still be unable to turn the tide of the battle raging around you. There are items and skills that amplify your ability to sway the course of the melee at large, but there will always be some hand of fate which you cannot entirely control. If defeated, fleeing from your immediate foe will bring dishonour but spare your life. There is still some shame in suffering defeat, but victory in the personal combat will

You feel but a taste of the glory those men must have felt, as your storm of muscled horseflesh and steel barges into the heart of the swarming Deadman host. The first opponent, lithe and wearing a once-white dress, disappears under your hooves without so much as breaking the momentum. A second Weidergǟnger, small and quick, manages to clutch at your stirrup at the price of a mulched leg. A third leaps towards you as the charge begins to lose its impetus, the sheer weight of the crushed dead finally slowing them down. Dozens of Deadmen have perished in that initial charge, but dozens more remain.Your skin crawls as you feel whatever remains of the first white-dressed ghoul clutch at your other stirrup and attempt to pull itself up to your saddle. >>3018401On the current MC, there's not much to talk about due to basically restarting the game over and rewalking through character creation. I did like that unlike Gabriel's start, we actually are seeing more about this Knight's family from a first person perspective instead of being mentioned as an afterthought. It also helps that despite what we did with Gabriel, he was a good metaphorical vehicle to retry out the combat system and with his death get some heads out of the potential mindset they had with Prince in BCQ due to how much of a combat monster became. As for personality? I sadly wasn't there to vote on the crucial parts at the final stage of creation so I wasn't any help there. He's basic like Gabriel but like I said earlier, it seems more potential grounded in choice since we have more to bounce it off of than the horse and a dying woman.>>3018404>Balanced - AV and Damage remain unchanged.Gotta play it careful.

At least he hasn’t hit you yet, and the ragged Deadchild collapses under the strong lad’s blows. Father’s men cheer, sensing victory as the edges of the melee begin to scurry and flee. When broken, the Deadmen revert to their bestial and cowardly nature. >3 Success>Your squire gained STALWART as a defining trait. He shall not flee in the face of the Foe, not ever, but for the command of his liegelord. ”Horror enough yes. But imagine these things closer to home, bashing at the door of your mother and sisters. Our deeds here mean that will never happen.” Your hand lies heavy on his shoulder. The boy looks up at the tall armoured figure standing over him, you must appear to be a giant to him. ”You understand?””I… this was once a lil’ girl wasn’t it?” Looking back at the shattered creature, you suppose it was. You nod. Mikail’s brow is furrowed in concentration, puzzling through the full weight of that. ”I got three lil’ sisters back home myself, m’lord. I ‘ent letting the Deadmen have ‘em. No way, not ever. Don’t care what it takes sir, I’ll stop these things.”His heart is in the right place. We’ll work on his tongue later. You think but do not say. The Deadchild finally expires and you direct Mikail to help the men with the burning of the bodies.[1/3]

>>3018681You meet with Father as the men finish tallying the butcher’s bill and begin lighting corpses. Men in Romaine are burnt not buried, and for good reason. Some Lords burn the Deadmen and fallen soldiers all together in great pyres, but Father does not. Separate funeral rites are held for each man fallen, according to Father it is both Godly and good for morale. Father also directs the priests to conduct funeral rites for the piled Deadmen, albeit en masse. You found that curious, knowing that even the Order Grandmasters rarely did the sae, and asked him. He only answered when he was in his cups. ”They were once ours too boy… the people of Ardenne deserve no less respect for what befell them….”Father is speaking with his trusted sergeant-at-arms, Mikail’s father in fact. ”Two dead, two more won’t live to see sunrise… ‘bout three more what’s theirs wounds is made ‘em unfit for duty.”Father nods somberly. "We'll see to it they are given productive work. No man who draws steel for me will find himself a beggar." "An' the folk right love you for it, m'lord." Sergeant-at-Arms Berrick says, bowing at your approach with a grin. "How fared my boy, Master Adrien?"" 'Sir' Adrien, Sergeant, I'm no longer a child. Like your boy, you are too liberal in your address." You hold the man's stare long enough to let him wonder if you're joking, the man was your guardian since you were swaddling cloths after all. You break into a grin, to his relief. "But by Almighty's Grace, he shares your conviction and spirit too so I'll gladly have him."Father chuckles at poor Berricks expense, flinging a coin purse at you. You may even make it back in time for the Summer Tourney.” You’ve rarely seen your Father fail to hide his worry so plainly, though you can’t guess whether it’s at the danger you might face or the danger he certainly will face when he returns home to your mother and sisters without you. ”Almighty preserve you. Adam clear your mind and Cain guide your blade.””I shall not shame our House, Father. I will return, covered in glory.” You bow and turn to leave, but Father halts you. >Close, but resting at town takes it.You stick to the main roads, aiming to purchase some equipment at the westernmost Romaine town of Grenoble. Your friend Sir Glasdale needs a Knight that is rested and ready, not exhausted and ill-equipped for monster slaying. This land far from the reaches of Ardenne, here the people worry more over brigands and beastfolk than the Deadmen. You reach the town before the sun has begun to set.You pass unchallenged by the gates, House Andrei is not unknown here. Mikail gawps at the sight of it’s stone walls, smoking chimneys and plethora of people going about their daily business. You yourself have never actually been in a town this size before, but you manage to keep yourself from staring at everything in slack-jawed amazement unlike your squire.”Is this… Aubrey, m’lord?” Mikail asks in wonder. ”I had no idea there’d be so many people…””It’s not Aubrey, boy. That’s twice the size of this place and located by the sea in Aubres.” You shake your head at his lack of education, though you yourself have never seen the capital either. ”You see those banners there? That’s the rampant eagle of Norveski, true servant of the Duchess and as Romani as anyone else.”You pause by a stall where a merchant unashamedly leaps to the fray, all but assaulting you with freshly smoked rabbit skewers. You manage to buy two rather than the whole basket, and you’re certain it’s at a price at least twice what he’d charge a commoner. There is still plenty of time to purchase equipment before taking your rest, hopefully without being as easily scammed as a Montbrun noble in a Pascae harbour.

An how fares our gracious and holy Queen?" "She remains, as ever, the Queen of Truth and Love, my good man." The Knight smiles congenially as the troubadour and singing maid in the common room take up the tune of 'Heavy Lies the Crown', a Queen-loyalist song. The maid catches the golden coin he flicks their way without missing a beat. "Almighty's Grace, she has blessed us with another true son of the King and so strengthened the Royal line and the future of our fine realm."The tavern cheers at the news of the Queen's third child, and a son to boot. The tavern toasts as one, Mikail cheering along with the others. You raise your mug, but do not cheer. Father and mother disagreed on many things, politics being a major issue, but both were wary of the Queen. Father because of the unrest and civil strife from the days of the War of Borders and Mother due to the Queen’s populist movement and sway over the common folk.”Ah, the Bear of Andrei.” The knight, clearly up-to-date on his heraldry, marks you out as a fellow knight and nods at the heater shield in your squire’s care. ”Sir Damien Andrei?””No, his brother. Emile Andre.””A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sir Andrei.” The royal knight smiles, obviously trying to hide his relief. Your elder brother is far from the Court’s favour these days, but for your family’s influence he might have been up on charges of murder for his folly. ”Forgive me, I was not aware Lord Andrei had another son.””He stands before you.” You are not trying to be rude, truly, but the conversation rankles you somehow. ”Still, likewise a pleasure Sir…?””Gilbern, Robert Gilbern.” Sir Gilbern clasps your forearm in the knight’s handshake, the man is handsome but ”Godsgrace, but you’re tall.””I hadn’t noticed.” You remark, but grin to take the sting away from it. ”What Royal Business brings you to Grenoble, Sir Gilbern?”The two of you talk for some time, Sir Gilbern is on official business other than the announcement of a newborn royal prince. The details he would not disclose, however he regrets being unable to lend you assistance while on his own mission. You tell him of your errantry and he provides you with some tips, unasked for but handy.”Staying on the Kingsroad is generally safe, Sir Andrei, but it is slow. And there is no chance that men such as we can move about swiftly or discretely unless you stick to the side tracks and off-road. Sometimes fair fortune even smiles upon you that way, I once came across an abandoned waterskin bundle containing three reams of untouched silk. What was it doing there? Pit knows, my good man.”Why a knight would need to move about discreetly anywhere is not apparent to you, but you do not press the man.Eventually the two of you talk of politics.[1/2]
[2/2]”Ah, a Kingsman then? Have no fear, friend. I serve the Queen faithfully, and believe me those two are well in love.” The knight stands up, ready to retire. The hour has grown later than you first thought. ”The conflicts of the War of Borders is well behind us, Sir Andrei. Peace and prosperity for Cantôn lie ahead. We can only hope. You think but do not say. ”Well, I will not deny that our Queen is fair and beautiful if men such as you would suffer for her.””Visit the capital one day, come see for yourself! Ah but the stars pale in comparison.” The man smiles upwards dreamily, clearly smitten with her Royal Highness. Even an idealist like yourself if amazed that Her Grace can command knights through the power of her fairness and beauty alone. Well, being in love with the Queen is no treachery. >2 Success”Ah very well, one more round. I cannot in good conscience let a fellow sword brother risk his life when a few words of my counsel might have spared him some grave mistake.” The man reluctantly takes a seat, though if you’re being honest in your appraisal Sir Gilbern seem the sort to relish talking and is obviously flattered a young knight-errant has asked his advice. ”Caves. Every creature I’ve ever had to hunt, from beast to basilik, it’s almost always ended with us tracking them to a cave, ruin or some other dark and confining pit. You have a friend going with you? Good, impossible to watch your back otherwise. So many hidden side-tunnels… The unfortunate truth is, it’s unlikely you’ll be in the open and ahorse when the time comes unless it’s nightfall and the creature is ravenous and confident enough to be hunting you instead. You can’t smoke them out most of the time, they generally have more than one exit. So be prepared to venture within, cornering the creature in its lair. Just, for Pits sake, make sure someone is carrying a torch. Monsters do well in the dark, men don’t.””No horse, caves, remember torches. Understood sir, my thanks.” You pause, a niggling doubt causing you to question. ”What of the tales of knights ahorse driving lances through these beast's black hearts in light of day? Are those pure fabrication?””Aye the stories of monsters in the field by day are real, but never for a solitary hunt. Monsters in force by day is a sign of war, mark me.” Sir Gilbern seems troubled by the very thought, though the War of Names was generations ago. ”You see a monster out in daytime, you send word to a Lord you trust immediately. That means the Wild is on the march again.”You talk for a while of possible creatures you may face, but Glasdale’s letter offers little insight and Sir Gilbern is unfamiliar with the region. The two of you part on friendly terms, if not friends.….….[1/2]
>>3018929[2/2]Less than a day later, by the Romaine-Fallavon border.Sir Willem Glasdale’s cottage is tidier and somewhat more well kept than the other hovels you passed in the region, but in truth you’d have missed it entirely had you not seen his Red/Yellow Chevron arms painted above the doorway. Sure enough, you find your friend saddling his horse and strapping on his armour around the back. The man has a lithe build, and a swarthy complexion from his wardship on the Glasdale lands to the far south of Romaine. His tan has faded somewhat, but his sharp blue eyes are as warm as ever.”Emile, you received my letter!” The man drops his saddlebag and approached with a cheery smile. ”Almighty shines upon me today, I was about to set off without you!””Then I have arrived just in time. Salvae Reginae would not be so unjust as to have me abandon a friend in need.” You return the smile. You’re about to dismount and embrace when a serving girl exists with a bundle of items.”Don’t forget your dried rations, darling. And water, it’s getting hotter out there.” The girl, clearly a commoner from her dress and manner, is all too familiar for your taste. The girl smiles and makes some mockery of a curtsey. ”Oh, you must be Will’s knight friend. Nice to meet ya.” ----------------------------------------------------------->”Willem… Who the Pit is this?” And why hasn’t Willem taught her some discipline? [Haughty]>”Yes, likewise. So, tell me about this Monster, Willem…” Overly familiar for a peasant girl, sure. But you have more pressing matters. [Idealist]>”Sir Willem Glasdale, you’ve been holding out on me.” The cheeky bastard has taken on a mistress likely, sinful but you try to laugh it off. [Hearty]

[Idealist] >>3018904But that's what's great about it if you're a noble. Because of your station, you CAN'T marry her no matter how much you yearn to. So it's a potential source of so much pathos, especially if you have to use a political marriage to cement an alliance. So while you love her deeply, you have to swallow it all and explain that "That woman over there will be my wife and you but a concubine because this is a political thing and we must weld peace out of this moment ... We must obey the forms. Yet that princess shall have no more of me than my name. No child of mine nor touch nor softness of glance, nor instant of desire."And you have to hope that she's willing to accept that, that your love is enough for her to accept some other bitch getting your name.A prize to whoever can place the quote.

”Yes, likewise.” You turn, ignoring the lowborn girl. ”Mikail, see Sir Glasdale’s things packed away tidily. So tell me about this Monster, Willem…””Yes, the attacks have been getting worse. A farmhouse was hit last, it’s just down the road not two fields from the village centre.” Your friend looks at you uneasily for some reason, though you can’t fathom why. ”The creature is getting bolder, but you know what folk are like when they’re scared. I’ve received nothing useful in helping us determine whether we’re hunting a rat or a basilisk or any manner of thing.””I’ve not heard of rats that tear down farmhouses, Willem.””You’ve not seen the rats out here then, Emilie.” Your friend replies wryly.Soon enough the two of you are ready to be on your way, but you are subjected to one final shocking display of familiarity towards Willem from his servant.”Come back safe, my love.” She kisses his cheek, attaching a plain white kerchief on his sword arm.”The Pit itself could not keep me from you, my lady.” Reginae wept, seriously Willem?Really, that’s too much. If he’s ploughing with the local help that’s one thing, the Almighty will judge him, especially if he fathers bastards. But to be so brazenly open about it? And granting him her favour like she’s some highborn damsel from the stories? And why the Pit is your friend playing along with it? You’re tempted to slam down your visor so your friend doesn’t see you roll your eyes. You at least wait until you’re aways down the road before speaking to him about you.[1/2]

>>3018979[2/2]”Look, Willem. About your girl there…” You pause awkwardly, aware of his sudden stiffness. ”I’m no priest, and your soul is your business… but do you really have to be so brazen with your sin like that?””Sin?” Your friend looks almost as confused as your squire, though Mikail often looks like that.”Yes sin, by God man! Bedding women outside of marriage is a sin!” You wave off his first attempt at a response. ”I know, I know save it for the priests it’s not my business. But you must know that parading around your mistress like that is… well it’s in bad taste and I mean that as a concerned friend.””Emile… our relationship is not outside the bounds of marriage.””And another thi-… excuse me?””We are wedded, Emile.””Cain on the Cross…” Mikail blinks, suddenly figuring out that he should be anywhere but in the immediate vicinity of this conversation. You reign in your horse suddenly, in shock and momentarily distracted by your squire’s blasphemy. Glasdale is a minor knight of a minor household indeed but he is of noble blood, and he’s gone and married a peasant girl! Mixing bloods... You hear of this in Pascae at times where rich merchants marry their daughters into otherwise bankrupt nobility, and it’s a scandal over here when it happens. But this girl? That’s a common as can be, not even merchant class! A miller's daughter he said!”But what of your family? Your name?” You demand incredulously. ”They disowned me. I live and work these lands by Lord Bierre’s leave of Right to Land, in return I offer my sword. My name remains Glasdale, and she and my children shall share it.””She a bloody miller’s daughter!” You exclaim. ”Why in Pit’s name would you…””Love, that’s why.” Sir Glasdale stares at you defiantly. ”Say what you have to Sir Andrei, I’ve heard it all already.”---------------------------------->”…You’ve already gone and wed the girl, so what I say matters not.” [Haughty]>”...Forget I said anything. >>3018995>>”...Forget I said anything. Let’s just go kill this frakking Monster, alright?” [Hearty]
>>3018995There should be a lot of more stigma and consequences for him and his family desu.Marriage between a noble and a commoner in feudal societies like this was a big taboo, especially when it's a literal serf like her and not just some rich merchant's daughter.A haughty noble like Emile would definitely not remain a friend with him, and other nobility would treat him as a laughing stock. Look at what Tywin did with Tyrion and his common wife. That's how most proud lords would've reacted.
>>3019026really depends on how much of friend he was to us desu
>>3019026Glasdale was very minor nobility, as discussed in a previous thread. He's been cast out and lives of the borderlands under a noble on the other side of Romaine, I think that's a reasonable outcome given the time. Had he stuck around and paraded his wife at home, murder would certainly have been on the table. He's certainly not welcome to any court that has even heard of him.The option to refuse to associate with him is there of course, though I do not think Emile would do so before fulfilling his oath to lend aid.
>>3019037>He's been cast out and lives of the borderlands under a noble on the other side of Romaine, I think that's a reasonable outcome given the time. Had he stuck around and paraded his wife at home, murder would certainly have been on the table. An idealist like Emile won't break his oath no matter what. After he fulfils his oath though...
You spend several moments calming yourself before you respond. Sir Glasdale has behaved in an ignoble and unknightly way. More ignoble than those Lords with a brace of common mistresses and bastard children? You suppose the priests might have a different opinion on the virtuousness of Glasdale’s decision, but really this would all be less confronting if he was just ploughing the damned woman.”Well, if you’ve heard it all already… Congratulations. She’s pretty.” ”I… thank you.” Clearly the man had been expecting some resistance. It’s not that you agree with him in any way, you just don’t see the point of arguing with him. The man’s been made a fool of as it is, you don’t wish to push the dagger further in. At least the girl he married was a pleasing sort for a peasant, if a little to informal towards you.The two of you ride in awkward silence for a time, you continue to struggle with the reality that your friend from the Knights Comitas days is now wedded to a lowborn peasant girl. The village folk make haste to direct you to the discussed farmhouse when you arrive.”We heard it, m’lord.” Speaks balding man who claims to be kin to those living on the farmhouse. ”Crashin’ n’ hollerin’… n’ screamin’ too, all through the night it went.” ”You did not think to help?” You look at the men gathered in the square, and the scared eyes peeking from the windows. Some fifty all up at least, you wonder if they could have at least scared this beast off with torch and pitchfork before it finished with those on the farmhouse. ”Fifty fine men of Romaine… have you checked for survivors?””We… we sent word to your sire, Sir Glasdale in the morning.” The man mutters shamefacedly. ”We… ain’t none of us had the heart to go up there and see what’s left.””In the morning. I see.” Sometimes the cravenness of the commonfolk impresses you, this is one of those days. Fifty men could have made a difference, or stood a chance. But they hid and their homes and listened to their kinsmen die. You suppose it may have been for the best, without a man of noble blood to lead and direct them any rescue attempt may have been akin to sending sheep to the slaughter.[1/2]
I already like Willhem more than our character, why are we such a stuck-up prude again? If we die can we play as him?
>>3019047>why are we such a stuck-up prude again?Because those are the traits the players picked for him. If he had humble, then it would be believable for him to not be a prude.
>>3019047a knight shold know his place in the worldbesides I already posted the Idea of Shekel knight but Anon didn't like it enough over a almost litreal Copy+paste of Gabrielle
>>3019026>ditching a friend and a brother in armsno matter how much of a fool he is, he is our friend, do not act like some sort of protitute that only give their favor for those who can give something back
>>3019047Are you really that unable to roleplay a character that has a different worldview than you ? We're currently playing a haughty knight that think himself as naturally superior to peasants, that's it. That's the character we're playing. We're not playing you or any other character with a more modern vision of the world.
>>3019051You're right as long we haven't fulfilled our oath. I however find it very hard to believe that a haughty character like Emile would remain friends with Willem after they finished their mission.
>>3019044[2/2]Upon approaching the site of the attack you hear the sound of a shovel turning earth. You find a lucky survivor of the carnage visited upon this farmstead. A tiny thing covered in filthy rags and bedraggled mud-brown hair, she looks every bit the timorous peasant waif. Except for her eyes. Cold and grey, her eyes are as hard as flint. The farmhouse, or what is left it, would have been twice the size of the commoner’s hovel you spoke to a few minutes ago. It was once, judging by the number of fresh patches of dirt on either side of the adolescent gravedigger, home to a very large family.Your eyes sweep over the staring, dirt-covered child to a particularly small patch of freshly dug earth. You feel a lump in your throat, the plot cannot be more than two feet in length.”Reginae wept…” Sir Glasdale mutters as Mikail retches."You two is knights?" The hard-eyed girl asks, the question almost a challenge."We are." You answer, momentarily taken aback. What else could you be?"I ent never seen a knight afore." The girl nods thoughtfully, sizing you and Hannibal up. Curiously, she does not shy away from the massive destrier’s inquisitive sniffing nostrils. "But me ma aluss said knights was wearing steel clothes and rode big horses. So I guess you is one.""The beast did this?" You're not sure whether to be affronted or amused at the child's suspicion, so you stick to the task at hand. The child nods. "What did it look like?"The stony expression never leaves the youngster's face as she describes...------------------------------------------------------->A massive horned beastman, with the head of a bull and cloven hooves. >>3019058>is the combat/battle system working and understandable or is it completely frakked?Eh, it's easy to understand for me. I can definitely see why some would find it hard to understand.
>>3019086and he's disregarded the nobility and virtue of our station to marry a common millars daughter thats goes against our Haughty and Idealistic tendency and makes him little more noble than a peasant.I'm not saying Abandon him Im saying give him a wide bearth after we are done here as his our Association with him does not play out well for us in larger society.

>>3019056wow all of them are imcredible beasts to slain, i kinda hope our tools are good enough for all of them .i would prefer to fight the Arghoul since we have probably a bit more knowledge on undeads.but i don t mind, all of them would be cool to slain and will give us a good amount of fame ... and perhaps even something cooler.(for example choopng the head off the beast and putting it at home could be a thing to do)going with the :>A vile fiend skittering along the ground on many legs, cold and insectile. >>3019122>guys any ideas for slain them ? also should we hire some scouts and maybe assemble a party for kill it ? perhaps even a trap ?We should get a torch if were going inside their lair. A group of scouts would be too expensive for us but a trap could work.
>>3019058Since it's very similar to the system you used for BCQ I have no problem. It doesn't seem too difficult even for newbies though.>>3019093I wouldn't mind - certainly different than the usual 'befriend everyone and their dogs too'. Hearthy might mean we like to have companions, but we can be choosy about them.Besides, we can always tell Gladsdale to call us if dangerous beasts appear again after this hunt. Even if we don't associate with him, it would be unbecoming to abandon a fellow knight.>>3019122As far as the Creeping Horror is concerned, anywhere but its lair should be an acceptable ground. Alien docet.
>>3019093I get what you’re saying but our personality can lead to either option being reasonable and personally I’d rather not be a dick to a childhood friend because he married for love.
>>3019191>personally I’d rather not be a dick to a childhood friend because he married for love. What you or i personally think doesn't matter. We are not playing as you or i, we are playing as Emile.
>>3019122I'd love to hire people to help fight the best and we'd be hard pressed to find a vengeance lacking in the region the problem is really doing it on the cheap.>>3019191Just because you stop talking to someone does not make you a dick, sure ots not for the most wholesome of reasons but he made his bed in the metaphorical mud and we don't take issue with that however we don't want to get dirty ourselves so we say no thanks and let him sit in it by himself>>3019141>Besides, we can always tell Gladsdale to call us if dangerous beasts appear again after this hunt. Even if we don't associate with him, it would be unbecoming to abandon a fellow knight.Basically this, he still performs Knightly deeds even if society does not agree with his lifestyle so we should not shun providing aid to him only shun his lifestyle.
>>3019207You missed the part where I said both choices are perfectly viable, and at the end of the day everyone votes on personal preference regardless
>>3019216>and at the end of the day everyone votes on personal preference regardlessSpeak for yourself m8. I actually vote based on the characters traits and don't shove my own feelings in it. If we had the option to play Emile however we want him, then i wouldn't be a dick towards Willem because that's what i would've done.
>>3019224Maybe you do, but our character has traits that make it just as likely for him to see past his station and remain friends with this guy, so I don’t think we have to ignore him because one of the three traits we have is against him
>>3019244>but our character has traits that make it just as likely for him to see past his stationNah, he really doesn't. Emile is a haughty noble who sees commoners as below his station. He will accomplish the oath he gave to Willem, but it's not really believable he will remain a friend with him after that.
>>3019250He is also an idealist who believes in true love and a jolly cooperator. But I guess because he is haughty that takes priority over everything else

But they will never make it gone outright.
To understand who Emile really is, just look at Solaire in Dark Souls. Idealistic, Haughty and Hearty at the same time.
>>3019271And haughtiness doesn’t make his other traits disappear either, but either way who knows what could happen on this quest anyway, we might get nat100’d before this even becomes an issue
>>3019275>And haughtiness doesn’t make his other traits disappear eitherYeah, but they clearly override them when it comes to Willem's case. Emile is an idealist so he will fulfil his oath to Willem, but remaining a friend with him after that is not really believable.
>>3019261Inversely he also believes in Chivalry, Noblise oblige and the feudal system and privileges of the nobility and that comes with a clear disapproval of miscegenation
>>3019282>>3019283I’d wait until we have more interactions with him and finish this hunt before deciding what our character would do
>>3019286>I’d wait until we have more interactions with him and finish this hunt before deciding what our character would doYou're right and i agree. If Willem ends up doing a deed that makes us forever in his debt (like saving our life for example), then it would be completely believable to remain friends even after we fulfilled our oath.
I believe Emile is an honorable man so he shall always help a friend in need. However, he would not boast of his friendship with Willem with anyone for the shame of associating himself with someone who in his eyes stains the nobility.
>>3018969No. It was Dune. Paul explaining to Chani why he has to marry Princess Irulan to legitimize his claim as the new Emperor, and how it's going to work. It looks like a Creeping Horror is what plagues this region. Disgusting creature!I will not be able to update until sometime tomorrow, but should probably hash out what this thing is before that as Creeping Horrors come in all shapes and sizes. Are we thinking giant spider or centipede-like?
>>3020981Centipede-like
>>3020981Yes Centipede is horrifying does it have a face?{/spoiler]
>tfw no centipede waifu
>>3020981>Centipede-Like It will be difficult to find weak points, since it will probably have a strong carapace. Adding to that probably a spiky tail and a poisounos bite. So it s legs (could be armoured), the mouth/antennas/eyes or is lower body.We could try to sneak on it or the trap. All in all, i suggest after have find is lair 1/2 days of observation (so we can understand some things on it [how fast it is, great, long, intelligent ecc] ; and avoid the shock of see it for the first time in the fight)
QM is drunk. QM loves you.
>>3021213What time is it where you live? It's real early for drinking where I am.
>>3021216Probably an Aussie.
>>3021173This strikes me as the mark of a seasoned monster hunter not a fresh Errant knight and while I'm all for raising a hunting party it doesn't strike me as an IC thing rather then meta caution warranted by prior experince.>>3021216He's a confirmed Ausfag shitposter
>>3021228Ah ok Then just jump to the lair of the creature, to adventure !
>>3021228We have hunted undead with a party before, strength in numbers is a pretty basic tactic
>>3021273and like I said Im not opposed to raising a hunting party, what Im opposed to is staking out it lair or stalking the creature itself like a seasoned hunter.Undead this is not but thats not the topic at hand.
>>3021228>>3021284no really i don t want to be a dick to you but can you suggest something that s is in character then ? because i don t understand what you want Emilie to do now, really.just charge in and fight it ?if that s true then asking the advice of Sir Gilbern was a move that didn t make sense for us, regardless of the trait. >>3018929and also why >>3019056 we have asked questions to the villagers and well even too the remaining victims, plus essentially looking for clues in their destroyed home ?essentially this 2 actions should be cancelled and we should just be in the forest searching the lair already, right ?if not then like i said, i m okay even for charging in the lair but at least let s start preparing a new knight because the fight will probably be hard as hell.(oh and also the symbol of is family so i can make a new shield too thanks)>>3019675>lol being careful
>>3021310It's pretty disturbing to see Emile being written Emilie since Emilie is a girl french name.
>>3021310*emile
>>3021326cool map anyway
>>3021310Not so much charge in but engage the creature in manner that shows us aware of the advice we were given without being cautious to the point of nigh excessive A Hunting party is a good start but being prepared for a fight in close quarters and tight spacing where it has a home field advantage is more of a priority.and of course being aware that we wont have the advantage of horseback in a cave is perhaps the most important thing to remember for the coming hunt. Finally you are taking way WAY too much out of my comment like I get it was perhaps not the most helpful but still.
>>3021392sorry i m being overly paranoid and hostile ; still people could just decide to charge in regardless of what we say now.sound fine seems more in character of what i was saying before.
>>3021414then again the part of the fight hard as hell is probably the thing that will happen, so preparing another knight seems normal.

>Creeping Horror>A monster of the deepest woods of Fallavon, it is rare for them to stray far from their established nest. Party tracker/pathfinder skill too low to offer accurate explanation and other habits.>Trait 1 [Armoured Carapace]: Compared to other monsters, the Creeping Horror will have a lower DC but higher AV>Trait 2: Tracker/pathfinder skill too low for knowledge of second trait.>Trait 3: Tracker/pathfinder skill too low for knowledge of second trait.Listening to the peasant waif’s account, you quickly determine the nature of what you face here. A Creeping Horror, the foulest and most reclusive of Monsters. You had thought that these vile disgusting creatures lurked only deep within the woods of Motte-Fallavon, not straying out here to open country on the borderlands. Starved of prey or driven by some other disturbance, it must have found the livestock and human commoners surprisingly easy hunting. These creatures are not well known in Romaine, Glasdale and yourself discuss what you recall of such things. It is precious little, you both remember the stories of heroes struggling to pierce their armour but little else.Unlike the quailing peasantfolk in the village, this lass’s description of the creature is detailed and unburdened with exclamations of how terrifying the whole ordeal must have been. You are somewhat impressed; the girl saw the creature’s work firsthand and still exhibits more courage than her kinsmen who only heard the beast. Though, given her loss, it’s just as possible that she’s gone mad with grief. ”....I were up inna tree, and even then it almos' got me by me leg. Had to scrabble outta the way and get higher, stupid beastie couldn't reach me after that.”You eye the thick undergrowth warily. It would be difficult to navigate [horse] through that terrain, even worse if you have to frequently dismount and check for tracks. You could spend days to no avail in there. And the odds of enlisting an experienced woodsman from the village are... low. "I can take you to it." The girl says, obviously thinking the same thing."You know where the beast is?" You ask, more sharply than intended. "How?""I followed it, didn't I? Followed 'im back to his lair deep inna woods." The girl says defiantly. "I ent no forestirrer but it weren't hard with the big bastard's creepy crawlies crashing all about.""That was foolish of you!" You scold, though if she knows where the beast is hiding... You appreciate bravery, but generally it’s ill-suited on a peasant girl that wouldn’t even be a snack for a monster like this. You catch Sir Glasdale’s look and nod, you’re being too indelicate in your questioning of the poor wretch. Still, you’re curious. More softly you ask. "Why would your risk yourself like that after barely escaping with your life?”[1/2]
>>3022565[2/2]>The peasant girl Tam’s assistance means you auto-pass the first pathfinder/tracking test (locating the lair)>Any pathfinder/tracking test for navigating the lair or locating other exits remains unchanged."It weren't even 'ungry wen it done for Jeremy." The girl breaks her gaze from you, looking down at the disheartening little patch of turned dirt. "Dragged him out of the crib, right 'ere to the base of the tree which I was in. …It didn’t et ‘im. Just killed him dead where I could watch. Bashed his head against the tree.””God spare us…” Sir Glasdale inhales sharply. Mikail’s retch turns into outright heaving, he makes sick over the side of his horse. You stare in shock at the girl’s detail of the murder of her baby brother, the evidence of her account horrifically plain and drying on the bark of the old oak before you. Father's stories never mentioned this. Commonfolk eaten by monsters of course, asking knights for aid. But babes, murdered to spite a survivor? Somehow it would have been better had the beast at least been hungry enough to feed on the young infant, though by the Almighty’s grace you can’t say why.Brother Cain was right to seek the extinction of these creatures. You think to yourself darkly, Hannibal tugging impatiently on his reins."Afore we go… It's me da. I... me da's too heavy." The girl looks angry at you, as if it were somehow your fault she didn't have the strength to drag his body to the rest of the freshly dug graves. The corpse splayed in the shattered doorway to the farmhouse looks heavy indeed, the hallmarks of a life of physical labour. Even in death you can tell that the girl’s father looked like a man who had laughed often and loudly in life.He did not deserve this. His family did not deserve this.------------------------------------------------>"We will give them a proper burial, later. First you and I must make sure this thing harms no one else.” No one deserves this. [Idealist]>"See to your father later, lass. I will be your vengeance." You swear by the Brother's Light this creature will die by your hand. [Haughty]>”Of course. Mikail will take over, you’ve done enough. Here, sit. Eat.” Despite her unwarranted hostility toward you, Hannibal seems to like her. [Hearty]Normally the dead would be burnt, but this border village is far enough from Ardenne that it only makes you uneasy rather than prompting objection.
Updates will be fairly intermittent today (largely due to this apoplectic hangover. As always, I am free to answer any questions you may have.

>>3022623>>”Of course. Mikail will take over, you’ve done enough. Here, sit. Eat.” Despite her unwarranted hostility toward you, Hannibal seems to like her. [Hearty]She's gone above and beyond her station in life in a single night, and suffered things that would break lesser men, and quite possibly some knights as well. She's more than earned a respite from us.
”Of course. Mikail will take over, you’ve done enough. Here, sit. Eat.” The girl shakes her head stubbornly, ignoring your pity and continuing to drag away pathetically small amounts of dirt with her stake of wood. She at least lets Mikail have the shovel. You dismount, long heavy steps send your shadow looming over the girl at work. The hand you place on her shoulder is near as big as her head, she looks up at you with far more insolence than you would normally abide from a commoner. But it would be ill of you to hold her disrespect against her in light of what she’s been through.”You don’t have to do this. Let my squire continue.”"He's me da." She says, letting that stand as explanation enough. But she at least takes the proffered jerky Sir Glasdale offers, chewing in stony silence as your knight-comrade and squire lift her father over to the half-finished grave. You were content to let your squire do the dirty work of shovelling in silence, but you suppose it would be unchivalrous to let your friend bury the man alone. You move to help but Sir Glasdale motions you away with a shake of his head, bidding that you talk to the child. He and Mikail will handle the burying of her father. You find yourself at a loss for words, struggling to find something reassuring to say to the peasant girl who barely comes up to your waist.”What was your name, girl?””Tam.” ”Tam?” Quite blunt for a girl, even a commoner.”Da tol’ me it were short for somethin’, but me whole life everyone’s jus’ called me Tam.” You have the distinct impression Tam is barely registering your presence, the girl is staring at Mikail and Glasdale with a cold intensity as they bury her father.--------------------------------------------------->”Tell me about your family, Tam.” You cannot imagine her hardship. You saw as well as I that her own family is dead, her own baby brother murdered before her very eyes. And you are going to tell her to just go back to being a simple peasant? >>3023253>calling it now, we're gonna get knocked out on our ass and she'll be the only one around to try and buy us time to get back up by trying to use one of our weapons haphazardly against whatever monster or thug we're up against.>ignoring the fact we have a grown knight and our squire with usdenying her vengeance is fine and all Im not against that, its the a)letting a child come on a monster hunt our squire is close to manhoodb)letting a girl come on a monster huntc)acting like she is a dead girl walking which is an incredibly cynical thing to say.

But until we get further with the quest, we should be prepared for any crazy shit that may come up from the PTSD and Survivor's Guilt that the kid most definitely has in some fashion. That don't mean I won't bother to make the Adam & Cain blessed attempt to be the knight in shining armor damnit.
>>3023425>Implying dice will fuck us>Implying it morally responsible to let a child of the come on a hunt thats dangerous for fully trained and equipped Knights>Implying our squire isn't at someone who could theroetically be a knight one dayJesus anon you really would flourish if we played a cynic knight.
>>3023530>Jesus anon you really would flourish if we played a cynic knight.Thank you Anon, I really do try. Now, shall we attempt to be the angel of death for little Tam? The shining light in the umbra? Because I sure as fuck am willing to do some good in this world.
>>3023541Sure though I hold reservations about bringing her along.the battlefield is no place for women and children Prince would disagree and this can be subject to change
>>3023617Don´t worry this is hunt not a battlefield. And the fact that he has lost his whole family and is severely traumatized only adds benefits to the option o using her as live bait. Path of Thorns all the way, baby

>>3022986>”Sometimes it helps, to talk about what happened.” Father called it battleshock. [Idealist]Wait. >>3024166>Kid was nicer, but he also didn't witness is family slaughteredhey we don't know that we never got much beyond he was a boy conscripted into the Imperial army.
>>3022986>”Sometimes it helps, to talk about what happened.” Father called it battleshock. [Idealist]>>3023221Makes fuck all sense to bring some random peasant child with us to a hunt where she will be a burden and get killed. She has sub-zero usefulness and we don't even need her since we can only use 2 companions in battle at most. Stupid player choices like this are what got Gabriel killed.>>3023236What if she wishes to join us to or not doesn't matter. She is just some random kid that has absolutely no usefulness to us. She will just burden us and eventually get killed since she can't fight unless Forgotten brings some bullshit explanation. >>3023253Emilie is a haughty noble and doesn't give a fuck about ''making simple folk into heroes or brigands''. He considers them just sheep for the slaughter without any noble to protect them. You're clearly using cynical thinking which means fuck all to a haughty idealist like Emile. Bringing a peasant kid like with us will be considered humiliating and insane to Emile. We're not playing Prince.>>3023623>Don´t worry this is hunt not a battlefield.Semantic tactics aren't gonna work. A hunt will include a battle with a monster so it's meaningless to play word games.
>>3024185She knows where the cave is and Forgotten has already said that she will give us an auto success in that roll for that. Now, I would be content to leave her in the entrance of the cave or have Mikhail escort her to the village. Also, chill a bit.>>3024185>Player choices and not bad dice and not having Death´s Door mechanic are what killed Gabriel Ah, okay, you are that anon.
>>3024187>She knows where the caveWhich she can tell and lead us to it's location without us having to bring her to the actual hunt and battle with the monster. >I would be content to leave her in the entrance of the cave or have Mikhail escort her to the village.I can agree with this. Bringing her inside the cave where we will actually battle the monster would be batshit insane.>Player choices and not bad dice and not having Death´s Door mechanic are what killed GabrielWhat killed Gabriel was the player's choice to chase the beastman into his camp knowing fully well that we don't have a companion with us to use Death's Door. Scapegoating the dice without accounting the choices that led to the fatal battle is pathetic.
>>3022986>”Sometimes it helps, to talk about what happened.” Father called it battleshock. [Idealist]Something related to Tam's eventual joining: I don't think a Haughty knight would necessarily reject such an offer. An Idealist would turn her down, probably citing the danger of the hunt or the role of women (although Romaine has female bodyguards, so maybe not?) but I could see Emile telling her 'You can come with us to have your vengeance, but don't get in our way'.From what we've seen, he considers peasants inferior to nobles but not necessarily useless, or he wouldn't have said that fifty men could have made the difference against the abomination.
>>3024195>An Idealist would turn her down, probably citing the danger of the hunt or the role of women (although Romaine has female bodyguards, so maybe not?)That example isn't valid because Romaine female bodyguards are adults who were trained and can actually fight. She on the other hand would be completely useless and a burden since:1. She has absolutely zero knowledge about fighting2. We can only have two companions to fight with us, so she is useless even if she could fight.I don't mind taking her with us to lead us where the cave is, but taking her inside the cave and having her be in the actual battle would be absolutely dumb.
>>3024201Not make her join the fight, no. But maybe helping us smoking the creature out of its lair, other than tracking it of course. Also, your own argument here >>3024192 is invalid because Forgotten mentioned Death's Door for the first time after Gabriel rolled a nat 100. But let's not beat that dead horse again, shall we?
>>3024192Anon, the Beastmen where noob level enemis and we didn´t know about the Death´s Door mechanic at that time. Do everyone a favour and stop being full of shit. No matter what character we would have made, it would have died. I agree we should have tried to save the peasant woman, but we are a knight, not a fucking damsel in distress. If we , either IC or OoC, had feared a three beastmand band we wouldn´t have been a knight worth shit. I am telling all of this as the guy which suggested to accept the beastman surrender to hang it at the nearest town, which, surprise, surprise, everyone opposed, even those which had voted for rescuing the woman. We took the option of continuing the fight and give no quarter, which I accepted, because it was a good roleplaying option for the kind of character we were playing. All of this fucking nagging came afterwards the continous set of bad rolls (fumble, 8 on the dismount roll, no succeses the next round). So shut the fuck up.
>>3024185>Makes fuck all sense to bring some random peasant child with us to a hunt I was talking more in a long term sense I'm totally against bringing her on the hunt for the record.>tfw Forgotten say he will update sporadically but barely posts 2 updates
>>3024207>Not make her join the fight, no. But maybe helping us smoking the creature out of its lair, other than tracking it of course.Roger said we can't smoke out them no matter what because they have plenty of exits so your point doesn't matter.>Also, your own argument here >>3024192 (You) is invalid because Forgotten mentioned Death's Door for the first time after Gabriel rolled a nat 100.No it doesn't. Death's Door was already a known mechanic you can read at the system's guidelines. Not my problem if the players didn't read how the battle system actually works. And even without Death's dorr, going out to an enemy camp without a companion is stupid in it self.> But let's not beat that dead horse again, shall we?If you didn't want ''want that dead horse'', then you wouldn't have replied to my argument in the first place. Also the horse was beaten dead because of the players stupid choices.>Anon, the Beastmen where noob level enemisIt doesn't matter. We were a noob level knight that just barely drew first bood so your point is invalid. I arleady addressed Death's door. No, we wouldn't have. The character died because of the player's cockiness and retarded choices. We were an amateur knight that never killed monsters before, so we absolutely sould've feared a three beastmen band, especially with no companion with us.
>>3024219>sould'veShould've>I was talking more in a long term sense I'm totally against bringing her on the hunt for the record.Yeah, this is exactly my view too.

To clarify, the choice of whether to allow Tam to accompany inside has not yet been made. I didn't see anything unchivalrous with allowing the girl to lead you to the lair.>>3024242I did go over the concept in the qtg, but it was still a WIP by that point and I don't think I covered it in the first thread prior to the Crit fail.Neither of you are wrong, chasing the beastman was the more dangerous option but it was far from suicide. I had aimed for anons to be voting on a moral choice not just which was safer. To be perfectly honest you guys absolutely dominated prior to that crit, and the rolls following the crit it were so bad that there was nothing that could have saved you. If you had rolled like that in any of the previous opening combats to it I suspect that the result would not have been much different.>>3024215Ja ja, posting now. We're going to slink back to a once-a-day update now.
>>3024257>I didn't see anything unchivalrous with allowing the girl to lead you to the lair.See I think theres a a miscommunication about having the girl lead us to the lair= fighting the creature with us when they are in fact seperate ideasalso Dammit forgotten at least confirm you are mostly free when doing a session.
>>3024259A 12 hour gap isn't intermittent enough? But you're right, I should have emphasised that was not properly running a session today.
>>3024259>>3024257As I have said, we can always compromise and use her as live bait. She won´t be actually fighting but she will play a major par on kilin the monster. Everyone wins and if anything goes worng nothing of value was lost.

Or are you going to sacpegoat the dice again if she get's killed, and not admit it was your retarded choice of using her as bait.
>>3024274> Are you saying that it wasn't because of the players chocies and cockiness?Yes by Forgottens own admission while it was the more dangerous option the fact we rolled that 100 plus the rolls after that doomed us.nothing before that set anything in stone
>>3024278The fact it didn't set anything in stone doesn't matter. It still what led us into it in the first place which amplified it. It's an objective fact that Gabriel wouldn't have died if we didn't chase the beastman into his camp like retards.
orry I´m just joking. If she dies it is a farmhand and fertile woman the lord of these domains will lose, which will both reduce the food reaped from the soil and the number of soldiers we can levy against the enemy in an emergency. Also, it would imply that the monster also wins, since it can enjoy yet another tasty snack before dying, and that is a big no-no. If we had means to infect the girl with the plague or fill her gut with poison though.... the edge...it is too strong

”Sometimes it helps, to talk about what it.” You’d never seen yourself before, not something the bards sung about much, but Father had told you about it when he was in his cups. Explaining why he’d given one of his man-at-arms a job in the gardens, despite there being not a scratch on him. Battleshock, he’d called it. You’re unsure whether the girl is suffering the same illness, but you find the idea that a child of her age and breeding could remain unshaken equally disturbing.”Helps what?” Tam asks bluntly. ”Talking won’t help them none.””I know, child.” You sigh, incapable of taking insult with her tone right now. ”But they can still hear you. Listen to you. As… horrific… as this all may have been, they are with the Almighty now.” ”Guess that’s what the priests say, innit. I ent seen it.” Tam shrugs, blasé in her doubtful blasphemy. You shift uncomfortably, ill-equipped to address a child’s crisis in faith. The priests and your sisters at home had run circles around you philosophically, you’d always prefer to wield a longsword over a book.”Should we get a priest for this?” Mikail asks, wiping his forehead as they finish up with the grave. Sir Glasdale shakes his head.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXeFq4KlRf8”Not so much as a chapel for quite a ways. I’ll… I’ll try to do it as the Grandmaster would have…” Willem looks uncomfortable, struggling to remember the words. But his voice is steady and does not falter. It’s as good a rite as can be expected given the circumstances. ”Sanctus Vita. Sanctus Mortem. Sancte Salvae Reginae, Mother of Man, Compassion of the Almighty, Blessed Beati. Into your arms we commend these gentlefolk, wipe their tears and tend their wounds. Wrap them in your loving embrace, grant them peace in Heaven that they did not find in life…””..Don’t have the words, sir Knight. None that seem to fit anyhow.” The girl mutters as Willem continues with the burial rites. ”Talkin’ can wait for another day. Doing feels more proper right now.”The girl strides off towards the treeline, only stopping to look back when she reaches the edge. ”Well? You coming or what?”[1/2]

>>3024295[2/2]The woodlands of the Fallavon-Romaine border are like nothing you’ve ever seen. You have woods in Romaine, of course. Father took you and Damien hunting in them often enough during the summer, when the threat of Deadmen packs had abated following the break of winter. But you sense something altogether different when you enter the Fallavon treeline, a stark sensation that this is not your territory and you are an outsider in this arboreal realm. An unwelcome one.The trees are not so thick yet that you find yourself confined and unable to manuever ahorse, but you do wonder at how anyone can hunt or woodwork out here and not get lost. But for the peasant girls help Almighty knows how long you and Sir Glasdale would have spent wandering in these forbidding woods before you tracked the beast to its lair. That is if you even could, you freely admit you’re no forester. In contrast, the cave itself is quite scenic. At first glance you see nothing amiss, enough to begin to question whether your guide is at all reliable. A discarded body in the side bush puts paid to that. >>3024352>>3024360Any other anons suppor smearing the entrance in blood to lure the beast? If we don´t so something to lure it here, it might as well go through another of the many entrances. Remember that they go ravenous at night. Also, bonfire instead of torches

The ground is too rough and uneven to even consider fighting ahorse, you'd only end up laming Hannibal. Mikail and Sir Glasdale equip themselves with torches, while you stick to your sword and shield. As the largest and best equipped target, you aim to be the focus of the creature's attention. It is only chivalrous."Stay with the horses, girl. And hold this." You speak to Tam, passing her a spare torch. "[If we do not return within the hour, take Hannibal and ride to Lord Bierre's castle, four leagues east of your home. Any beast that can hew two armoured knights is worth his attention.""...Right." Tam says, stroking Hannibal and procuring a chestnut from Almighty knows where as a treat. The massive brown destrier seems to have taken a liking to her, you'd expect the horses to be agitated with the scent of a monster in such proximity but they're surprisingly calm and preoccupied by free treats. At least the two trained Warhorses are calm, Mikail's nag has wide eyes and flaring nostrils. You recall what Sir Gillbern told you about hunting this creature. It will be unlikely that you can force it to fight on your terms, or to come to you, this is its territory. You will have to face the creature in its lair, in it's environment, but to your advantage is that it will not expect quarry to act so bold. With any luck, the beast will not be sluggish and unprepared for your assault."Into the Pit of Black they rode..." You mutter to your friend, a quote from the Book of Brothers. "Into the mouth of Hell." Sir Willem Glasdale grins at you, slamming down his visor and drawing his blade. You stand together at the mouth of the cave. You crick your neck and work your shoulders. Drawing your own arming sword, you clank the hilt against the heater shield twice and take your place. "Up to the Palace Gates they strode..."Even Mikail knows the words, his voice joining yours as the three of you stride forward. "To face the Dragon Fell."[1/2]

[Horror +5DC first round]2 = The Horror was not expecting its prey to come to it, it is unprepared when you arrive. [Horror -5DC first round]3 = Fat and gluttonous on its victims, the Monster is likely sleepy and sluggish. [Horror -10DC first round]Crit-pass = Vulnerable, asleep. [Horror -20DC first round]For your first lair and time of day we shall assume that the lighting is only at Gloom levels, which is negated by the presence of torches. It can get darker still.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J93fc--VsaI>Tracking DC 60>3 rolls of 1d100Stay frosty...

The tunnels within are treacherous and winding, slick mucus and trails of silky refuse make for tricky footing. But you and your comrades forge ahead, burning web-like barriers and stepping over discarded bones that may have otherwise given away your position. Despite walking for some distances deep into the lair occasional pockets of broken soil above shed some dying light on the pervasive darkness, but the gloom would indeed be pervasive without your torches.Mikail missteps on a slippery downward tunnel, but your quick reaction props him up with your shield before he falls noisily or drops his torch. Sir Glasdale nods approvingly, and both of your companions are reassured by your steady gait and confident leadership. The walls are confining and maze-like but you do not hesitate in your hunt for a moment, it’s as if you can sense where the creature lies…It is close.[1/2]

As you have the initiative, the monster cannot use any available re-rolls this round. At last you track the Horror to its innermost nest, clutches of eggs lay encase. You make a mental note to destroy every instance of these offspring once you have killed their brood mother. She or it, you know not if these things even adhere to gender, is uncurling before you in the centre of the cavern.Disgust and loathing are your initial reaction, the creature is as long as a caravan and with tenfold as many legs moving it. Clacking mandibles and twitching antennae alert you to the fact that this creature is aware of your presence, turning about sluggishly to face the threat you and your companions pose. The creature is only just barely awake, even in it’s vile insectile absence of a face you can determine that is alarmed and panicking at the sudden intrusion.”For Cantôn!” Sir Glasdale yells, sword ready. Without hesitation the three of you rush to the attack before the abhorrent menace fully recovers its wits. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------(1) Combat Stance>Cautious - Double AV (Max 80), Total unsaved damage to Foe is halved (Rounding up)>Guarded - Exchange of Blows does not inflict or sustain damage.>Balanced - AV and Damage remain unchanged.>Belligerent - Exchange of Blows does not inflict damage; +1 Damage to Foe if any unsaved damaged is inflicted.>Audacious - Halve AV (Rounding up); Each point of unsaved damage to Foe is doubled(2)>"Mikail! "Come ye creature black as hell and twice as ugly! Taste my blade!" The Horror shies away from the fire on either side held by Mikail and Sir Glasdale, ignoring the true threat. You. Unperturbed by the rearing height of the monster, you charge forward and drive the sword hilt deep into it’s stomach. It notices you then, that much is certain, but you cannot be stopped.”Again!” You cry, ripping your blade free and hacking away at the wounded midsection.”Again!” You laugh in the things putrid face, a third slice leaving the body party hanging by a thread.”Once more!” Your blade strikes true. The creature screeches in agony, mandibles and legs twitching frantically as the creatures midsection literally comes apart in front of you. The thing scuttles back and rears up, you think to attack, but instead begins to gorge on its own entrails from the detached midsection. The act of self-cannibalism is so disgusting and unexpected that you and your companions halt your attack momentarily, recoiling from the awful sight. You and your fellows gird your stomachs and ready yourself for another charge. At that moment, a rock slams into the beasts head. The Horror whirls around towards the peasant girl Tam, standing in the cavern entrance with torch in hand and a makeshift shiv in the other.”…” Tam of Grenmire levels no threats and makes no boasts, but to your reckoning the girl stands before the rearing creature utterly without fear. You wonder whether she would have tried to kill the beast and avenge her family even without the aid of two knights. The choice between attacking an armed threat of three from one side of the room or slaughtering the frail prey-thing standing between it an escape is an easy one for the monster. It leaps at the girl immediately.---------------------------------------->Creeping Horror is momentarily distracted (-5DC)>Creeping Horror focuses its attention on Tam!>”You shall not touch her!”[/blue] Stepping between her and the beast, you shield the girl from harm. I honestly thought going into this lair was going to fuck our day right up. This has been a great encounter. OP, is there any sort of sacred female only warrior class maybe with the church? If so, I think we should see if Tam wants to look into that. Obviously remind her she'd be no Knight of course but it would be an honourable position regardless (if ti exists in this world)
