"... As the fourth hour of the attack on the English Canal Mag Rail tunnel, no progress has yet to be made in releasing the hostages or the apprehension of the suspects. Counter terrorism forces of both England and France are still coordinating an assault on the section of the rail line. French world senator Jacque August has been confirmed to be held hostage alongside his family and multiple other civilians..."

"Operative Escort has arrived with MR Epsilon-2. Operations command has been transferred to Operative Escort."

The comms go ablaze with SAS and GIGN chatter as you check your gear. Patting down your chest carrier, power armour, EVO helmet and cyberarm, the APC comes to a stop.

You are Deltorian Tessan, callsign Escort, operative of Department 7.

>Do we know who or what group is taking all these hostages?
>>

Your squadron quickly files out of the APC, you watch as a Gas masked SAS operative and a Balaclavaed GIGN operative approach.

"Heard the cavalry was inbound, but which unit are you from?" The British op asks leading you to the command vehicle. Stepping into the somewhat small room set up with cameras and sensors, you reply in a short, practiced phrase. "Department 7."

Looking over the displays, many are hazy with static, while other show badly angled camera and drone feeds. As you watch, you see a masked gunman spots what can only be assumed to be a drone from its low angle view, and destroys it, the screen turning to haze but not before you spot the angled icon on his shoulder.

"Artemis. Of course it's fucking Artemis." You sigh, quickly turning to the presumably leading SAS and GIGN commanders for the op.

"Lucky you call it in, else you would either have ended up with a dead senator, two incaped CT squads and no captives."

Taking a brief look over the holodisplay of the AO, you quickly relay info to your team. No time to waste now.

Looking over the map now displayed in your helmet, three marks appear on the side you are located. One marked the front of the train, the objective was to assault down the train, providing cover on your approach, was the most direct to the hostages but a funnel for you and your squad of 14 other squadmembers. There was the top of the train, fewer people, fewer cover pieces, but it was probably going to slow you down less, and the collection of deployable cover pieces, APC's and entrapments, that the Artemis agents set up for the siege. Most cover, most defended but if done correctly, an assault on it would reduce the enemy suspects by half or so.

The hostages were the most important factor in your assault plan, and securing them was still important. With the train a sardine can and the emplacements a fort, you focus on the roof for your assault.

"Epsillon-2-11 to 15 will join me on the roof and will make our way down the length of the Mag Rail. The rest of the squad will assist the other units on their approach to the site, covering my group. SAS and GIGN forces will follow behind my squad to extract the hostages. The senator will take priority over other hostages. Prepare for the assault. Units positioned on the other side, particularly sniper units should try to pick off exposed suspects if the can."

With that, you move vault over the police barrier marking the AO. The five other squad members you mentioned quickly follow.

"Let's get this party started"

The assault begins with the loud crack of a mass accelerator round and the body of an insurgent tumbling to the ground. Following close behind, your squad launches a series of tear gas and flashbangs, in hopes to cover your approach over the train as well as take a few more out of the action early. Multiple other Artemis agents drop as you clamber onto the roof.

Pushing forward along the train, you feel a round graze your helmet and send you tumbling. Barely holding onto the edge of the train, you watch as Epsilon-2-13 catches three rounds to the torso before being knocked off the side, falling off the side of the 3 metre metal carriage. The squad display in your helmet shows he's critical, but not dead, not yet.

The combined counter terrorism units and the rest of your squad make their push as well, making good headway. Their methodical but swift motions taking the still scrambling agents. Those that raise their weapons to return fire are quickly subdued and the few that do try to surrender are quickly dealt with before the wave moves onwards.

With the way covered or cleared, the rest on the roof quickly pull you up and check you over. The hostages are two more cars over, and the main force is now making headway. "Order sir?"

Our focus is the Senator. We need to attack from more than one direction if we want this to work, and it needs to be simultaneous.

Roof breach and leaving him behind. Writing.

"The hostages are our biggest concern. Prepare for breach." As you watch, a CT member heaves Epsillon-2-13 back towards the police line, reducing the number of issues that are currently revolving.

"Angel, I'm gonna need some calculations." You say as you and three other squad members produce your breach charges. Bright white blast circles appear in your vision, to which you place your charge and instruct the others to do similar with the other circles.

-----

The senator sits clutching his daughter to his chest as gunfire rings out around the train cars and the outside tunnel, only to be drowned out by the heavy sobbing of the little girl in his arms. His wife clutches at a horrible gunshot in her leg, putting on a brave face in defiance to the horrible situation.

The next few moments are a blur of mixed feelings and emotions. One of the gunmen overlooking the hostages begins receiving an order, before quickly raising and firing a round into the Senator's leg. Another moves forward and snatches the crying girl from her father's grasp, both reaching towards each other in desperation. As another gunman levels his sights on the Senator's head, there's a soft click.

-----

The roof crumples as you and two others toss in your Flashbangs, the other three dropping down as soon as the flames die down. The gunman attempting to kill the Senator raises his hand to try and block the flash, you raise your cyber left arm, a grapple fires, embeds in his head and snapping his neck when it reels in, the blade coming free as you drop down yourself.

In a quick swivel, you fire three shots into the agent with the girl, before your team guns down a third agent as he arrives in the car.

"Mr August, where here to get you out." A squad member says as the girl rubs back to her father.

"The others... Another car... In here... Because... Me..." The Senator stammers out from the pain of his leg wound, most likely starting to go into shock. A squad member goes to contradict, but you shut him down quickly switching out magazines and moving to the linking doors.

"I'll get them, you extract the senator and his family." As you enter the next train car, you softly mutter, "Daemon, possession."

The first few agents are prepared for a breach are surprised to see only you, two rounds collide with you vest, but you are quick to reply, gunning them down. One rushes to you, knife drawn, to which you dodge with ease before you knee him in the gut, and send him crashing into the ground with your carbine. Two more shots into a reinforcing agents sends him tumbling, blocking the path of another agent, which gets his brains splattered against the train walls.

You barely manage to duck as remaining forces outside the train begin firing on you. The CT's and your squad are quick to capitalise, but you feel three more rounds impact your vest before you plant yourself under the window.

Red marks begin appearing in notable locations of gunfire as suppressing rounds collide above you and behind you. Popping your last flash, you swivel upwards, placing three rounds into the fire marked hostiles and with the final shot, end the assault, victorious.

-----

Just before the Senator is placed under for surgery on his leg, he commends all of the teams in the assault for not only saving him but the other hostages, which were all recovered, if not in shock of the situation.

Packing away your equipment, you leave the squads to debrief. You're technically not meant to be in the mission, but when the word for a maximal response squad was needed at site, the Director asked that accompany and oversee the operation.

With the op now done, you revv the engine of your hoverbike, carefully secured alongside the Department APC. Checking your schedule, you notice the Ten meeting up and coming.

>Finishing there. Thanks for joining. Continuing next week.
