You are Myon Uesugi, and today you will prove to the world that you are fit to become a Shinobi. Although you are only a ten year old girl, you have already endured years of training under the tutelage of Ninja from Kirigakure, the Village Hidden in the Mist. After today, you will be able to finally join their ranks and become a Ninja of the Bloody Mist… but first you must prove yourself by slaying your classmates.

“It is a remarkably beautiful day.” Kyoji mutters while the two of you walk together. “Wouldn’t you say so, daughter?"

“Huh?” you glance up at your father before frowning at the rocky hills. “Uh, yeah. Pretty."

You rarely ventured this far inland away from the coast. The mist that often buried your home and concealed your village wasn’t nearly as thick out here. However, it felt difficult for you to stop and smell the roses or listen to the cicadas when you knew what was to come.

“Hmmmm.” your father hums, placing a hand onto your shoulder. “I am sure that to you, this must feel like the calm before the storm.”

“Excuse me?” you shoot your father a dirty look while trying to read the expression hidden behind his veil. “I’m not scared. Just…”

“Tired? Sick? Distracted?” your father asks while leaning down closer to your height. “Myon-chan, if you feel like you need more time to train, then you do not need to take the final test today. You must not—“

“No!” you sneer, stopping in the middle of the road. “I want to fight, I want to pass this test! More than anything, I want to be a Ninja!”

Your father’s perpetual scowl is broken as he looks carefully down at you. You glare back at him, offended that he could ever suggest such a thing. Gritting your shark-like teeth, you all but dare him to argue against your decision.

“Hmph, hahaha” your father… laughs? “Then what are we waiting for?"

You can’t remember the last time you heard your father chuckle. There was always this intensity to his demeanor that appeared to have little room for laughter. You suppose he must be enjoying his time with you...

“Bah.” you spit while gripping the sheath of your katana. “Whatever.”

Regardless of what your father was feeling, what matters now is that you are more determined than ever to reach—

“Benkei Bridge.” your father announces. “Excellent. We have arrived."

Having made it through the rocky hills that hemmed in your village, you now see a tall wooden bridge that stretches over a roaring blue river. Beyond it are many miles of blossoming rice fields, while at the foot of it you see a crowd of what looks to be over a hundred people. Your classmates you presume.

“I believe this is far enough.” your father says while turning back to you. “I’ll stay up here, and search for a good vantage point to watch this unfold."

“Right,” you mutter while walking past him. “I have to go find my friend anyway. Oh!”

Remembering the events of last night, you zip open your leather jacket and brandish a small black vial.

“Cobra venom?” your father asks. “Where did you find that?"

“What? No.” you bark back whilst unsheathing your blade and uncorking the vial. “Fugu Fish poison. Junko found some for us.”

“Junko?” your father blinks down at you. “I did not know you had a friend.”

Rolling your eyes, you pour some of the poison onto your sword.

“Be sure to sprinkle drops on both sides of the blade.” your father mutters.

“OK Dad.” you nod back at him.

“And you should hold the blade up, so that the poison can spread across the steel.” your father adds.

“OK Dad!” you reply, louder this time.

“Hmmmm.” your father hums. “Would you like me to do it for you?”

“OK DAD!” you shout in his face, handing him the sword and the poison vial.

A few minutes later, your father tosses the empty vial and looks over your weapon.

“It is a fine sword, for a fine daughter.” your father mutters while handing it over to you. “Come back with this blade, Myon.”

Gripping the sword’s handle, you step back and sheathe it while locking eyes with your father. A long quiet moment passes before the two of you bow to one another and go your separate ways.

“I will.” you mutter under your breath. “You better still be here when I do.”

Briskly walking down the hilly path to the bridge, you soon find yourself entering the massive crowd of students. You spend a few frustrating minutes pushing through the crowd in your search for your friend. With her blonde hair and blue Oni mask, you figured it would be much easier to find her.

“Junko! Damnit,” you groan while forcibly pushing your way through the crowd. “Junko where are—“

Your question is cut short as you stumble over a rock on the ground, your body becoming airborne for the briefest of moments as you slam your head into someone else’s.

“Ack!,” you grunt, falling to the ground. “Ow, crap.”

Rubbing your forehead, you open your eyes only to see that your vision is somewhat blurred. All you can make out is that a boy your age or younger appears to be lying on the ground with you.

How will Myon react?

Biting your tongue before you can express your displeasure, you grunt while pushing yourself up on one knee.

“Hey, are you OK?” you say while offering the boy a hand.

Your vision clears up and you find a somewhat odd sight in front of you. The boy lifts his head up with a sneer, his teeth as sharp as yours and his eyes locking onto you with a look that’s not quite unlike the one your father often gives you. He’s a slender kid with a small bruise on his cheek and no eyebrows above his narrowed eyes.

“Don’t worry about me.” he grunts, pushing himself up to his feet without accepting your hand. “I don’t need your help.”

“Heh, hey look guys! I think Zab found himself a girlfriend!”

You furrow your brow as you stand up as well and glance at a group of boys standing off to the side. They leer at the two of you, laughing amongst themselves and even pointing at you and this boy. Looking back at the boy, you find that he’s sporting a glare that’s enough to put your hairs on end.

“Something wrong?” the boy, this Zab, whispers.

“Uh… no.” you say with a frown. “Are you feeling ok?”

Instead of answering you, the boy merely smiles.

"Peachy." he sneers.

“Hey! Lil sis!”

You step back from the boy and find Junko sauntering up to you, a smile hidden underneath her blue oni mask.

“Junko!” you shout, stepping closer to her. “Where you been?!”

“I’ve been here!” she exclaims, shrugging her shoulders. “All these kids, I didn’t know we’d be competing with all these other students!”

Feeling somewhat relieved to see her, you raise a hand and bump fists with her. No sooner than that, a booming somewhere amidst the crowd of students shouts

“ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS! BEGIN MAKING YOUR WAY ACROSS BENKEI BRIDGE TO BEGIN THE TEST!”

That sounded like Katsuyori, your old sensei, although it could have easily been any of the male instructors at Kirigakure Academy.

“Damn, guess the party’s about to start.” Junko huffs. “I was hoping to sneak in one last smoke…”

You roll your eyes as Junko pulls out a loose cigarette from her Kunai holster, and then notice that the boy you were just speaking with is already gone.

“… huh.” you rub the back of your neck while Junko stares at her cigarette in one hand and the lighter in the other. “C’mon, let’s move.”

“Er, right.” Junko stuffs her cigarette away and the two of you, along with about a hundred other students, begin to make your way across the bridge.

It feels a bit strange to you, seeing all these other kids marching together over the raging river. Some look quite solemn, frowning aimlessly while walking side by side together. It almost reminds you of a funeral march. Then again, there are also a few students who look to be smiling just like that Zab kid you were talking to. This will be a bloody affair indeed.

“ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!” that same voice shouts once again after you’ve made it on the other side of the bridge. “THE TEST BEGINS IN 5 MINUTES. ONCE THE FIREWORKS EXPLODE IN THE SKY, YOU MAY BEGIN!”

You and Junko share a glance at each other before regarding the hundred or so students standing at your side . Some are already drawing their swords or kunai while glaring one another down.

“I always hated you Takeda, you fat son of a bitch!” a voice rings out over the crowd.

“Yeah well screw you too! I’m going to piss on your freaking grave in a few minutes!” a voice calls back.

Just like that, everything breaks out into chaos as students square off with each other. This whole area right in front of this bridge is about to turn into a massacre. Having already decided the night before that neither you nor Junko want any part of that, the two of you sprint off away from Benkei Bridge.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1fTbDJiyrM

The two of you break away from the horde of students and rush off across the countryside, blurring past many of your classmates. A few minutes pass you by while you make your way through watery rice paddies, using your chakra control to run across the surface of these watery fields at breakneck speeds.

“Man, screw that!” Junko cries out while glancing back at Benkei Bridge in the distance. “Where should we try to hide for now lil sis?”

You scan the area ahead of you whilst sprinting. These rice fields look to have a few rough spots where you and Junko might lie in wait and stage an ambush. Then again, there are terraced rice fields further away where the two of you can gain the high ground and observe the field from afar. You also spot what looks to be an abandoned farmhouse about a half mile away, perhaps you could hide out in there? If anything, that farmhouse would offer protection from the elements, although the sky is clear right now.

With only a minute or so before the killing begins, where will Myon and Junko go?

Anons wait! What if we kill him and thus take the mantle of Zabuza for ourselves? We have the prime opportunity to change the tides of history. Although, what year is this in accordance to the show?

No, anon, it's a trap! If we engage him Junko will absolutely die!
>>
>>3050189
We gotta seize the initiative! If we're gonna be a swordsman of the mist, we must eliminate all rivals! This might become a damned if we do, damned if we don't situation if we want to keep big sis alive.
>>
>>3050189
Anon, in canon he kills his ENTIRE class. He ACTIVELY hunted them down.
In close combat with blades, violence of action and having the initiative win the day. We CAN'T avoid the encounter, so it's better that we engage on our terms, and take him down fast, rather than trying to run and just getting cut down like a dog.
>>
>>3050192
That's why I'm saying we gotta change canon so it's us that hunted everyone down. Save for big sis obviously. Gotta make pops proud.
>>
>>3050195
Nah, that's dumb too.
Going full-on raging murderboner is stupid. I like the idea of Myon eventually being ruthlessly efficient, but murdering the entire class is the OPPOSITE of efficiency. We only need one kill, and then to survive. Taking out Zabuza once we realize what he's trying is a necessity, but beyond that? We just need to get our kill, and then put down anyone else who comes after us. Extra bodies is just wasteful, and deprives Kiri of potentially skilled ninja.
>>
>>3050201
You make a good point. If we murder hobo every student we'll probably get our shit kicked in by the higher ups for basically nuking the future military.
>>
>>3050192
I know, but there's no way that Junko won't die. We need to stow her away somewhere so that we can fight him alone.
>>
>>3050205
Thing is, we don't know that.
It should be pretty easy to figure out that Zabuza is murdering everyone, and by extension to conclude that we have to put him down. But frankly? Keeping Big Sis out of the fight is just PURE metagaming bullshit.
Also, having a buddy gang up on them with you pretty much always gives you better odds in a fight, unless said buddy is incompetent.
Are you saying Junko is incompetent?
>>
>>3050211

“Up there!” you shout back while pointing up at the terraced rice fields. “We should take the high ground.”

Following your lead, the two of you sprint across the rice paddies toward the steepled hill of rice. Without breaking your stride, the two of you leap up onto the first terrace of rice before flipping up onto the next one, and the one after that until finally the two of you find yourselves standing high up in the sky overlooking miles of rice fields.

“Wew,” Junko sighs while wiping some sweat from her brow. “I think we should slow down a little, save some energy for the fighting.”

You huff and puff for a few seconds before taking in the view. You can see the skyline of Kirigakure from this far up, although most of the buildings save for some rooftops are predictably hidden in mist. Scanning the horizon gives you a breathtaking view, although you realize you need to focus on the task at hand. Looking down at the fields closer by, you see that a handful of students have come up with the same idea as you have.

In fact, it appears a few are running off toward your position.

“Get down!” you cry, falling forward onto the wet grass. Junko again follows your lead, and faceplants into a rice plant.

“Look Big Sis,” you whisper while pointing at the fields below. “it looks like some kind of chase.”

Junko nods as the two of you spot a group of two, no… three students running in a squad-like formation after a single kid.

*POP!*

You both lift your heads up and look ahead as a blast of light rains down over the sky, quickly followed by a second and a third! A dazzling display of lights glitter across the sky, as if you were suddenly celebrating a new year!

“Ah shit, here we go!” Junko mutters while hovering a hand over her sword.

Staring back down at the students below, you spot the three kids throwing shuriken at the one student as their chase turns deadly. They are slowly making their way closer to you and Junko’s position, opening the possibility for you to ambush them.

Further up ahead, back towards Benkei Bridge, there looks to be a very thick mist gathering… but that is not an immediate concern. The Hiding-in-Mist technique is a Jutsu known to you and many of your classmates, even if this one is particularly thick. Perhaps an Academy Proctor has cast it over your classmates?

“How are we gonna handle these four…” Junko whispers.

>Jump down there and charge them all!

“Hold on,” you whisper to Junko who was in the middle of drawing her ninjato. “let’s see how this pans out.”

Junko gives you an ‘OK’ symbol with her hands and the two of you focus downwards on the four students below. The three kids in pursuit appear to be a burly boy and a lanky girl, being led by a kid wearing a surgical mask. The poor bastard being chased stumbles ahead of the three, twisting about and tossing a single kunai that sails over the three pursuers’ heads. The burly ninja performs a few hand symbols before shouting—

“WATER BULLET JUTSU!”

Sliding to a halt, the heavyset boy rears back and unleashes a geyser of water from his mouth! The boy they were pursuing is hit by the full force to this jutsu, knocking him off his feet and sending him tumbling through a rice paddy.

“GET HIM!” the gasmask-wearing student shouts.

Sprinting on after him as he is blasted away, the lanky girl pushes ahead with her sword. Flying up into the air, she sails downwards onto the helplessly hosed kid and stabs her sword through his chest. Piercing him to the ground, the kid chokes on a bit of blood before falling limp to dirt.

“Nice one!” the burly kid yells while the lanky girl twists her sword, ensuring the lone kid’s demise.

“Brutal.” Junko whispers. “She took him out just like that. Look at her, she’s smiling…”

Junko draws her blade further out of its sheath.

“… I bet we could jump her easy now that she’s standing away from her friends. What you think lil sis?”

You furrow your brow, staring down at the three while casting another glance at the massacre that is likely unfolding up ahead by Benkei Bridge. The thick fog is only continuing to grow, and you believe you can hear echoes of swords clashing and screams coming from that direction.

Exhaling, you draw your katana out of its sheath and take a few more breaths just to steady your heart. You remember your kill last night, while battling the street thugs, and visualize yourself doing more-or-less the same to this unsuspecting girl.

“Let’s get her,” you mutter while glaring down at the lanky girl trying to extract her blade from the boy she just felled. “Now!”

You and Junko move as one, hopping down the terraced rice fields while barely making a sound. The two of you move so fast that you barely register it, almost moving by instinct alone. Before you know it, you are back in the rice fields charging across the watery ground towards your target.

“Heh, that’s one!” the lanky girl proclaims with a smirk. “I guess that means I pass the— SHIT!”

The girl spasms as you and Junko sweep by her with your swords in a flash of red.

“You failed.” Junko snorts.

“ACK!” the girl chokes, blood streaming down her chest before dropping her sword and collapsing into the watery rice paddy with a splash.

“SAYA!” the burly boy cries while the kid with the gas-mask stares bug-eyed at the two of you. “NO!”

The burly boy draws a falchion off of his back and roars while charging. With how far away he is, there is just a split-second or so to make a tactical decision before he closes the distance! Staring at the burly boy, you can tell he is clearly enraged while the other kid in the gas-mask appears to be making hand-signs for some kind of ninjutsu although you are unsure what!

“I’ll take care of him,” you grunt while adopting a readied stance. “You take care of his friend!”

“Heh, no problem.” Junko chuckles while hopping a few yards back. “Be back in a flash!”

Junko disappears from your sight just as the burly boy with a falchion bears down on you. Up close, you can see that he easily has a few inches of height and a decent amount of muscle on you as he hefts his machete-like blade.

“DAMN YOU!” he shouts while taking a swing. “DIE!”

You don’t waste words on him as you parry the blow and take a step back. You could feel your body shake as you directed his blow away with your own sword. When he stomps closer for another strike you have the good sense to step out of the way completely instead of locking blades with him again. He is quite strong, but his rage has clouded his judgement as he takes one wild swing after the other.

“STAY! STIL!!!” he roars while you duck under his horizontal slash and dip in close. “GURK!”

Your katana sinks through his gut and you twirl past him in one fluid motion.

“d-Damnit,” he stammers, a hand of his clenching his stomach as he tries to keep his guts from spilling. “I... can’t...“

Without wasting another look, you turn toward Junko while your foe drops to his knees passes out.

“MIST-SERVANT-JU—“

“EAT SHIT!” Junko shouts, cutting gas-masked kid off with a flurry of shuriken.

The kid just barely finishes his hand-signs as several of Junko’s throwing stars piece into his right leg. You watch Junko stop in her tracks, readying her sword while her foe turns away and begins to stumble off.

“Huh?” you stare at Junko for a few moments as she raises her ninjato and staggers back, as if blocking some kind of blow. “Big Sis? What are you… wait. Genjutsu! Junko you’re in a Genjutsu!”

“WHAT?!” Junko shouts back, growling as she glances about at apparently non-existent foes. “That little, ugh!”

You rush up by Junko’s side with the intent of shaking her out of this illusion, but upon arriving you see that she has sheathed her sword. She inhales deeply and draws several kunai with both hands, each one with explosive tags attached!

“Try and hide!” Junko shouts, tossing the kunai all across the ground as the kid in the gas-mask limps away. “FROM THIS!”

Raising an arm, you shield your eyes from the fiery explosion! Mud and water rain down on the two of you, or at least you hope that its only mud and water. Either way, when you look back you find that the kid in the gas-mask is lying face first in a puddle.

"Wasted." Junko sneers.

“Right,” Junko sighs, running a hand through her hair. “that makes two for me and one for you.”

You sigh as well, sheathing your sword for the moment.

“Hey wait, two for you and one for me?” you furrow your brow at Big Sis. “I’m the one who landed the finishing blow on Saya back there.”

“Bull—shit!” Junko leers down at you. “I slashed her first, you were just overkill at that point.”

“Yeah right!” you huff at Junko while she puffs at you.

A few seconds later, and the two of you are nothing but smiles at each other.

“Well that’s a passing score either way.” Junko mutters, turning about and surveying the field of corpses. “Wanna try and find a proctor and call it quits? I feel like sushi for dinner.”

You frown at Junko. True, the two of you had technically passed the test by killing at least one student each. However, the test had only just begun just minutes ago. If you were to attract enough attention to earn a great teacher, you would most certainly need to kill more of your classmates. The chance at attracting a great teacher, a member of the Hunter-Nin or even one of the Seven Swordsmen, is an exciting prospect!
Still, your life AND Junko’s life was on the line. Perhaps it would be better not to risk your luck?

As you dwell on it, you notice that the thick fog up ahead is spreading… in fact, its starting to envelop all of the rice fields at this point. You can still hear swords clashing and jutsu being shouted even from this far away.

As a question to pass the time, how do you feel about Naruto's eventual powerscaling problem? I don't know where you plan to take things, but since you're starting us so far back before canon starts, I was hoping that we end up seeing the endgame shenanigans reigned in.

As in, early Naruto fights are a good representation of power, with Kakashi vs, Zabuza being a good example of Elite jonin combat and Orochimaru vs. Sarutobi being more or less Hokage equivalent combat. This is of course just my hope for how things turn out though, I don't know what you had in mind.

Your gaze drifts to the ground and lingers there for a moment while Junko awaits an answer. It feels a bit like deja vu, as you are reminded of yesterday when Junko tried to lure you away from going to class so you could play hooky together.

Just like yesterday, you make a decision and give her the answer she wasn’t looking for.

“How we do in this test, this Battle Royale, is going to affect the rest of our lives.” you look up and lock eyes with a frowning Junko. “I can’t just stop now, I’ve still got plenty of fight left in me!”

Junko opens her mouth to speak, but you’re not finished yet.

“I need to show our teachers, the whole village, just how strong I am!” you all but shout. “And… and I need to prove to my father that I am strong."

Junko’s frown softens as you finish speaking and turn your back on her.

“But if you want to go,” you mutter without looking her way. “I won’t stop you.”

Looking up, you stare down the thick mist that lies ahead. You try to steel yourself for the task at hand, knowing full well just how much is on the line. Your life, your honor, everything really.

“Tch, why do I even bother?” Junko groans while walking up behind you. “Well, I guess… “

A warm breeze billows between the two of you until suddenly, you feel Junko’s hand fall on top of your head.

“… I guess I wouldn’t be much of a big sister if I ran off now.”

Your eyes widen while your friend ruffles your hair, her smile clearly visible even when hidden behind her mask.

“y-You’re staying?” you ask while she messes up your hair. “Really?

“Yuuup!” Junko exclaims, pulling her hand off of your head and pumping it into a fist.

“Let’s do it!” she shouts.

“Alright! Let’s do this!” you shout with her.

There is honestly a lot of Naruto that I have not seen, but early series Naruto still holds a special place in my heart. Arcs like the Land of Waves and the Chunin Exam have the biggest influence on my perception of Naruto, and its those kind of episodes that I keep in mind while running this quest. That being said, how strong Myon becomes is in large part up to the decisions you guys make and how lucky you are.
>>
>>3050433
Thanks for running Banzai, this has been pretty fun so far, looking forward to ace'ing this test and getting a good teacher.

I don't know about you guys, but I want to play Myon as somewhat bloodthirsty. Perhaps bloodthirsty isn't the best mindset, but I want to be really aggressive, not out of some hatred or psychosis, but pure competitive drive to succeed. Although a bit of learned bloodlust wouldn't be bad either, especially if we lose Junko here.
>>
>>3050434
I could definitely see Punished Myon if something happens to Junko during the test, and that really kicking her need to win into overdrive.
>>
>>3050434
Eh, I'd rather become aloof and feel that life is cheap, with a dash of sadism.
>>
>>3050433
Early arc naruto was magic. It had exactly the right amount of power and challenge, all while keeping the setting realistic enough. Cunning could contend with power and ninjas were as weak as they believed themselves to be. Your story is keeping that spirit alive and its been awhile since a good naruto universe quest happened. Please don't die, all the best DMs leave stories half done.
>>
I'm really enjoying this quest, good job Banzai.

Somewhere high up above the killing fields, in the rocky hills that surround the Village Hidden in the Mist, parents look down across the river in search of their children. Several whisper among themselves, a few shed tears, and some simply try their hardest to see through the bloody mist.

Amongst their number, standing at the edge of a cliffside, a single ninja stands alone.

“As there is no lack of flowers at blossom time, so those in defeat will not escape.” Kyoji mutters under his breath. “Claim victory, my daughter..."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzpq6vRDfR0

Having dedicated yourself to continuing the test until the very end, and knowing that your “Big Sis” Junko is going to be watching your back, youturn to face the slowly approaching mist.

“Get a load of this.” Junko grunts while leaning her elbow on your shoulder. “That’s gotta be the Hiding-in-Mist technique.”

“Yeah, but its so thick.” you mutter as you frown at the mist. “How could you fight in something like that? Even the user of the technique wouldn’t be able to see.”

Junko stares at the fog while rubbing the chin of her blue oni mask.

“You wouldn’t need to be able to see,” she says, furrowing her brow. “not so long as you used the Soundless Murder Technique.”

“Without being able to see who you’re fighting?” you ask Junko.

“If someone really mastered Soundless Murder Technique, REALLY mastered it, then they could fight their enemies without needing to see them.” Junko growls at the mist as it draws closer. "They could hunt down their enemies by relying on sound alone.”

“That’s... intense,” you admit. “would you be able to fight like that Big Sis?”

“No,” Junko shakes her head. “I’m not THAT good with the technique. At least not yet. Maybe we ought to—“

The two of you cut your chatter short as the outline of a figure appears in the mist.

“Someone’s coming!” you grunt while the two of you reach for your swords.

Whoever appears to be walking in your direction will be emerging from the mist any moment! You can’t quite see who it is, but judging by the figure’s size it is almost certainly someone your age. It is quite possibly the same student who has summoned all this mist, but there’s no way to know for sure.

With only a few spare moments to act, what will Myon do?

>Charge the figure before it emerges from the mist!
>Throw Shuriken at the figure before it emerges from the mist!
>Throw an Explosive-tagged Kunai knife at the figure before it emerges from the mist!
>Adopt a defensive stance and wait for the figure to emerge!
>Hide and wait for the figure to emerge before you’re spotted!

Using our own mist would alert them, no point in looking different, and I'd rather not attack an enemy when we're potentially in their playing field. An ambush on our terms seems like the best response.

Gritting your shark-like teeth at the mysterious figure, you realize that if you were to engage your foe now that you would have little idea of what you were getting into.

“Big Sis!” you whisper to Junko. “Let’s fall back to higher ground!”

“Yeah?” Junko mutters, glancing at the towering fields behind her. “Gotchya!”

The two of you back away from the encroaching mist before twisting away entirely from it. Quietly sprinting across the rice paddy, you leap up into the air and rapidly climb up the terrace before falling flat onto the top terrace just as before.

“OK,” Junko sighs. “that should buy us at least a minute.”

You take a few breaths just to steady your heart as you stare down at the mist. You know full well that mist like this will take some time to rise up to your position, so you believe you’ll be safe for now. With that threat taken care of, you and Junko observe the field below.

“Hey look,” Junko mutters while jabbing a finger downwards. “whoever it is left the mist! I think… I think I recognize who it is.”

Staring down long enough, you suddenly realize who it is as well! It takes you a moment to be sure, but there’s no mistaking that white hair.

“Its Kasumi?” you raise your head up higher while squinting at her. “Kasumi Kaguya?”

“Yeah! Ugh, damnit.” Junko groans. “Krazy Kasumi. This is gonna be… hey, wait. I think she’s injured. Look at her arm.”

Frowning down at the pale white figure, you suddenly notice that Kasumi appears to be holding her right arm which appears to be limping at her side.

“Aw yeah,” Junko chuckles. “Two on one against an injured target. Those are odds I can live with."

You continue to frown while failing to look away from Kasumi. Was she the one who used the Hidden-in-Mist technique? You never noticed her being this skilled with the ninjutsu, and use it at all yesterday when you pushed her to her limit. Aside from that, you also can't help but wonder how she got injured.

“Yo, lil sis.” Junko shakes your shoulder, tearing you away from your thoughts. “We should do something quick. Before someone else comes along.”

Junko is right, you need to make a decision. Kasumi is your enemy now, and you should try to think of how you will take her down. Even if you did go out of your way to help her a little yesterday, a thought that was disturbingly present in the back of your head...

So, what will Myon do?

>Charge Kasumi together as she approaches the Terraced Rice Field?
>Pelt Kasumi with shuriken and kunai from above?
>Go down and speak with Kasumi, tell Junko to watch your back?
>Call to Kasumi and tell her to come to the two of you?

“Something’s not right here.” you grumble, raising yourself up to one knee. “I’m going to go down there and talk with her.”

“What?!” Junko shouts, only to immediately cover her mouth and return to a whisper. “Why the Hell would you do that?”

“Kasumi’s too strong to get hurt by just anyone, and something is definitely up with this mist.” you reply while standing up tall. “Maybe Kasumi knows something we don’t know?”

“Hmph,” Junko frowns. “it’d be a lot simpler to just kill her while her guard is down.”

“Yeah, you're right.” you mumble back at her. “Watch my back for me, OK Big Sis? Then you can brag about how you saved my ass later.”

Junko's frown gives way to a smirk, and not a moment later you are hopping down the terraces at breakneck speed. Your feet eventually hit the top of a flooded rice paddy with little more than a tiny splash, just enough to get Kasumi’s attention. The pale girl looks up at you with a blank stare.

“Myon-san,” Kasumi says, her voice seemingly echoing across the empty field. “I’ve been looking for you.”

You furrow your brow and instinctively reach for your sword

“You’ve been looking for me?” you ask, clearly unsettled.

Kasumi’s lips slowly curl into what a stranger might call an innocent smile.

“Yes, I’ve been thinking about us having a rematch ever since you helped me to the infirmary yesterday. It was a very good fight you and I had.”

You’re not sure whether to feel flattered or disturbed, but before you can reply Kasumi lets go of her arm and gestures toward the field.

“I assume these four are your handiwork,” she says while regarding the four corpses of the students that had died in your earlier scuffle. “I think that makes us tied.”

You blink at the arm she had just released from her grip, seeing now how badly it is injured. A Kunai knife has been stabbed right through her bicep and a dark red ichor is slowly bleeding down her hanging arm. It looks to be a very painful and serious injury, as she is deprived of an arm to fight with and a hand to perform ninjutsu with.

“What happened to you?” you ask while pointing at her injured arm.

“Oh, this?” Kasumi’s smile fades while she looks at her arm. “I fought a demon in the mist.”

“Uh… what?”

Kasumi looks back at the the heavy haze that looms over the two of you.

“I was there at Benkei Bridge when the test first began. It was an exhilarating experience, total chaos!” Kasumi shouts, her body shuddering. “But then, a mist started to fall over us all. One by one, some THING hunted us down. I saw it myself, fought it myself… but I don’t think I can defeat it.”

Kasumi sighs, turning back to you with a rather haggard expression.

“I really didn’t want to die here, but…” Kasumi closes her eyes and suddenly regains her cheerful grin. “… we can at least have our rematch before that happens, so I feel much happier now.”

You stare at Kasumi as she patiently waits for a response from you. You’re having quite a few mixed feelings about how she seems to think about you, yet you also have this “Demon” to worry about now. Kasumi has always had this reputation as the scariest student in your entire class, to see her act this way is unnerving you like no other.

“This is nuts.” you grumble under your breath, giving a sideways glance back up the terraced rice field and remembering that Junko lies in wait. To complicate things further, that damn mist is getting closer and closer.

What will Myon do?

>Kasumi is too dangerous, try to take her out now with Junko backing you up?

>Great Success!

“If you really don’t want to die here, then lets team up and take this Demon down together!”

“Huh?” Kasumi opens her eyes and stares back at you “Team up?”

“Yeah! You know, work together?” you grunt at Kasumi, who begins to curl a lock of her white hair with her finger.

“I’ve always fought alone, I’m not sure teaming up would work out so well.” Kasumi mutters, bashfully turning her gaze toward the corpse of the burly ninja you had slain earlier.

“Ugh, look.” you growl, stomping across the field toward Kasumi. "You and I are probably the two best fighters in the whole class! If we take this demon on together, then I know we can win! We’ll kill this guy, become ninja, and then we can go have that duel you want."

Kasumi still fails to look your way, even as you walk right up to her.

“So come on, what do you say?” you groan while offering her your hand.

Kasumi finally forces herself to look your way. You suddenly feel your hairs stand on end as she eyes you up and down. It dawns on you that you are in a very vulnerable position right now. Standing this close, a Taijutsu enthusiast like Kasumi could easily—

“You’re so brave Myon-san.” Kasumi giggles, reaching over and gingerly shaking your hand.

“Uh, thanks?” you mutter back, a bead of sweat dripping down your forehead.

“Such determination~ You've won me over, I’ll follow your lead for now. But remember, you still owe me a good fight later~” Kasumi chirps as blood continues to ooze down her bleeding arm.

You give Kasumi a sharp smile, your gaze drifting down to her hand. It feels surprisingly soft, but upon closer observation you notice that her callused knuckles look to have some dried blood on them. Its a very obvious deviation from an otherwise soft looking body.

“AAAIIIIIIEEEEEE!”

The two of you break contact with one another as a bloodcurdling scream pierces through the mist, which has rapidly come closer during your exchange with Kasumi.

“That mist is insane!” you exclaim. “Kasumi, I think we should regroup further—“

“Get back!” Kasumi hisses, dropping low and sweeping her leg for your ankle.

“Ack!” you cry, falling unceremoniously into the mud. You’re about to angrily ask what Kasumi is doing, when you look over your shoulder and see several shuriken and a kunai knife lying in the mud and water behind you.

“HEY! MYON!” Junko shouts from atop the hill. “Don’t make any sounds! Remember what I told you!”

You gulp and look back at the mist and then to Kasumi. Slowly raising your hand, you thumb back at the terraced rice field and gesture for your new ally to follow you.

You’ll have to be fast if you don’t want to get hit by whoever is hiding in that mist!

You and Kasumi stay perfectly still, only barely moving your bodies inch by inch as you slowly make your way back to the terraced rice fields. Knowing that a single misstep could suddenly spell your doom, you carefully rise up from the mud and—

“RUN!” Junko shouts.

You and Kasumi make a break for it, a whistling swarm of projectiles chasing after you both!

>57
You tumble through the air, a kunai knife sailing just under you, and when your feet hit the surface of the water you bob and weave to avoid a near endless storm of metal.
“Ah!” you cry as a stinging pain shoots through your right thigh. You have no time to dwell on it however as you can sense more of whatever hit you coming in fast!

>3
“SHIT!” Junko shouts, twisting a shred of your attention up to her. A few more kunai fly down near you, although they are missing their mark by a much wider margin and appear to be floating down from Junko’s position.
“Keep running Myon, I’ll try to cover you!”
Somewhere in the back of your mind you understand what Junko is trying to do; intercepting this Demon’s ranged weaponry with her own. A cunning plan.

“ACK!” you sputter, twisting around and finding a shuriken lodged in the palm of your left hand.

>94
In a split-second, you notice many more of these kunai and shrunken rushing your way. You fear you may not be able to dodge them all, when you see a pale white hand grab you by the scruff of your leather jacket

“Hurry Myon-san!” Kasumi yells into your ear. “HURRY!”

With only one good hand, Kasumi jerks you out of the way of these incoming weapons. You feel her drag you almost like a rag doll as you’re feet suddenly leave the ground and you are sent hurtling through the air!

“HURF!” you grunt upon hitting the ground. “Ugh, what was that?”

“Lil Sis?!” Junko shouts, dropping to a knee beside you and placing her hands on your shoulders. “Thank the freakin Gods, I thought you were done for!”

You temporarily see two of Junko before shaking your head. Glancing to the side, you also see Kasumi panting as she stands on the edge of what you realize is the highest terrace in the rice fields.

“d-Did you see who was tossing all that crap at us” you ask Junko while pushing yourself up off the ground.

“No.” Junko growls. “This asshole’s still hiding down there, and now his mist is almost everywhere!”

“You’re sister is right.” Kasumi sighs. “See for yourself, we are surrounded.”

Accepting a helping hand from Junko, you slowly get to your feet without aggravating your wounds and observe that the pervading mist has grown. You, Junko, and Kasumi stand up high over a sea of bloody mist.

hey man out on a mission we're at least trying to accomplish SOMETHING, even if it's just for a client it's still in part demonstrating the mist is capable, contributing to discouraging attack. this is just a huge waste because the people in charge are shitheads really really good at producing s-ranked traitors

But anon, a true victory is to make your enemy see they were wrong to oppose you in the first place. To force them to acknowledge your greatness.

That sounds very much like a might make right mentality than a sound moral philosophy. Besides we're essentially wizard mercenaries from the bloodiest wizard mercanary town in the whole world, do we actually care if we're right when our missions will range from "getting a rich lady's cat out of tree" to "assassination of entire villages that are getting too rowdy for the local lord's liking" all at the whim of our bosses and what missions they assign us?

I mean, I'm quoting Gul Dukat's argument against genocide here. Dukat's basically Space Mussolini.

Its a chilling sight, looking down upon all this foreboding mist. A single ninja was responsible for all this, or if Kasumi was to be believed, a demon was.

“Its quieter now,” Junko mutters while lowering her mask. “I bet ya we're the only ones left."

“Everyone except the Demon.” Kasumi sighs, staring intently at the mist below. “It will come for us soon.”

“Demon huh?” Junko mutters before spitting onto the ground. “We’ll see about that.”

“I see you are not afraid either.” Kasumi smiles, turning to face Junko.

“If it bleeds, we can kill it!” Junko grins back at her, while brandishing a cigarette.

Those two seem to be getting along well enough. You figure that’s a good thing, seeing as you’ll be fighting as a team now. Grim as things are, its comforting to know you're not alone.

“So, shall we attack now?” Kasumi asks aloud. “I feel like waiting up here for it to come to us won't end well.”

“After I finish my cigarette.” Junko mumbles while fumbling with her lighter. “I need to get in the zone, ya know?"

“Oh? If you insist.” Kasumi nods her head and plops down onto a dry patch of grass. “I guess I’m a little hungry anyway.”

You watch Kasumi reach into her kunai holster with her uninjured arm and produce a chocolate bar, which she proceeds to carefully unwrap with her teeth. Odd, it was the second time you’d seen her munching on a candy bar like that. Perhaps she had something of a sweet tooth?

“I’m not about to charge back into that mist.” you grumble under your breath, turning your back on your comrades to look down once more. “There’s gotta be some way of fighting this."

Staring hard at the murky haze, you wrack your thoughts for plans. Retreating to higher ground has already bought you a few minutes at least, more than enough time to figure out how to stop this mist. Then, after staring at it long and hard enough, a realization dawns on you.

“The mist isn’t rising anymore.” you whisper, before turning back to Junko and Kasumi. “Hey! The mist stopped growing!”

Junko exhales a puff of smoke while Kasumi swallows her bite of chocolate candy.
“No shit?” Junko smiles, walking up to your side to see for herself. “You’re right… hey! Maybe whoever was using it finally ran out of chakra?”
“Or,” Kasumi frowns while staring up at the sun in the sky. “maybe the demon has grown impatient? This test has gone on for some time, maybe it is afraid the test will end before it can claim our souls?”

Junko chokes on some smoke after hearing Kasumi’s casual suggestion.

“Damn,” Junko grumbles up to your ear. “I’m not sure I like the way she thinks.”

As unsettling a thought as it was, you had to wonder if Kasumi was right.

“Nyeh heh heh heh heh heh...”

All three of you freeze as laughter echoes around the area. Junko is quick to drop her cigarette and put her mask back on while Kasumi hops to her feet and devours the rest of her candy bar.

“That’s a shame, because I like the way the Kaguya thinks.” a haughty voice creeps into your ears

“Its the demon.” Kasumi shudders, raising a fist.
“Come out come out asshole.” Junko draws her sword, backing up against Kasumi

“I’ve had enough,” you grunt, tearing the shuriken out of your hand as if you had ripped off a band-aid. “Argh, let’s do this!”

You place your bloody hand on the handle of your sword while backing up to your comrades.

“Over here ladies.”

The three of you twist about and face your foe, who has finally revealed itself on the far edge of the top terrace of this rice field!

“Huh, its you?” you ask, recognizing the boy almost immediately. “Zab?”

You remember back to earlier today, meeting this boy just before the test began. On the surface, there was little about his appearance to suggest he was anything special. However, you were quick to notice how his eyes reminded you of your father’s and how his shark-like teeth were like your own.

“Hey,” you say while taking a step closer. “You’re the kid I bumped into earlier today? Zab right?”

His smile fades as he looks you up and down.

“My name is Zabuza Momochi.” he grunted. “Welcome to the graduation party.”

“This little runt’s the one who’s been slaughtering our classmates?” Junko exclaims.
“Do not underestimate it, I am certain that was the one I fought earlier.” Kasumi whispers.

You lock eyes with Zabuza from across the field. It was hard to believe that all this chaos was started by just another student like you.

“Its not polite to stare.” Zabuza growls, causing you to grip your blade-handle tighter. “As fun as this has been, I think its time we moved on. You can tell our classmates that I was the one who killed them…"

Zabuza forms his hands together into what you recognize is the Tiger hand symbol.

“…. when you see them in Hell!"

“TELL EM YOURSELF!” Junko shouts.

“Wa—ACK!” Zabuza cries as Junko shoots a kunai into his forehead, a stream of water oozing out of the wound.

“--ter-Clone-Jutsu!” Zabuza shouts, his physical form collapsing into a puddle of water. You stare in awe as three new figures emerge from the watery rice paddy, each one resembling Zabuza.

“Get ready to die!” all three of them shout as they charge each of you!

The three of you scatter as the trio of Zabuzas charge across the rice paddy! Gliding over the watery plants, you draw your katana just as a Zabuza bears down on you with his kunai!

“Die.” Zabuza growls, sprinting up and closing the distance.

>88

Swerving to the side, you parry his stab with the tip of your sword and then hop further away as he recovers and takes another swipe at you. He is quite fast and his blows have a lot of force behind them, yet you are able to keep him at bay with your sword’s reach. While you deftly avoid his attacks, you steal a glance at your comrades and find that Kasumi is fairly close.

>33
>88

Miss Kaguya is clearly having trouble, her disabled arm slowing her down and making it harder than ever to land a decent blow on her Zabuza. As you tumble away from your foe, you leap up into the air and swing your sword at Kasumi’s opponent!

“GURK!” Zabuza cries, your sword slashing into his back.

“ayy-YA!” Kasumi cries, twirling about and roundhouse kicking Zabuza hard enough to DECAPITATE him. Or, at least that’s what it looks like for a split second as the fragments of his head transform into water.

“It was a water clone!” you cry out, twisting aside just in time to slash at your own Zabuza who backs away and dodges your attack.

>24

“STAY STILL!!” Junko shouts, dragging your attention back to her.

“Big Sis!” you cry, glancing at her while trying to ready your own defenses.

Out of your peripheral vision, you see Junko and her Zabuza chasing one another and splashing quite a bit of water all over the place. She slices at Zabuza with her own sword, but its shorter length fails to keep Zabuza far away. Your heart sinks as you watch Zabuza dip in close several times, landing a quick punch that’s enough to ruin her battle-stance again and again.

“Maybe you should hurry up?” Zabuza growls. “Before I run out of bones to break!”

In a burst of speed, Zabuza swoops in close to Junko and strikes the side of her head with his elbow. The force of the blow is enough to send her staggering as her feet slip beneath the waters of the rice paddy. She’s definitely in trouble now; not only did the strike hit hard, but now she’ll barely be able to move with her feet below the water’s surface!

“That looked painful!” Your Zabuza sneers, tossing a flurry of shuriken that your barely duck under.

Your heart skips a beat as you see Junko struggle to stand in the muck, her foe drawing closer with his knife.

“Damnit!” You sneer, turning your gaze back and forth between the two Zabuzas. “Kasumi, go help Junko! I’ll handle this one!”

Kasumi wordlessly nods and runs over toward Junko’s position.

“What’s wrong?” Your Zabuza frowns at you. “Are you really that worried about her? How touching.”

>34

“Shut up!” you grunt while lunging at Zabuza.

Your foe flips backwards through the air and evades your sword-slice. Gritting your teeth, you give chase and attempt to run him down with a few cuts of your blade. Unfortunately, his agility is such that he is able to evade your barrage of sword-strikes.

“Is that the best you got?!” Zabuza roars while raising a fist!

“Ah cra—“ your words are muffled by Zabuza’s haymaker, smashing into your face hard enough to send you airborne!

“—Crap,” you cough out, tumbling acrross the mud before rising to your feet.

>26
>54

“Ack!” Kasumi cries, shielding herself from another flurry of shuriken with her one good arm. “By the Gods this is bad.”

Having blocked her own vision, you watch as Kasumi fails to intercept their Zabuza who circles around and heads straight for a dazed Junko.

“BIG SIS LOOK OUT!” you shout, but it comes too late.

Juno’s eyes widen as Zabuza stabs her with his kunai, sticking the blade right into her gut.

“JUNKO!” you scream her name at the top of your lungs.

“Oh no!” Kasumi yells, throwing a kick at Zabuza that he leaps away from. “j-Junko?! Forgive me, I was too slow.”

Junko looks down at her abdomen at the kunai piercing her.

“Heh… r-right into the intestines…” Junko keeps herself sitting upright with her sword lodged into the mud.

Things have gone from bad to worse. Junko has been teribly injured, and Kasumi is barely still in condition to fight! You still have your own Zabuza to deal with, and to top it all off you’re not even sure which one is the real one!

We can't afford to disengage, Junko is a nin with full knowledge of life and death. We can mourn her if she dies, but dead is dead.
You can tell alot from a drawing technique, because Zab is smart and powerful, not stupid and powerful. So we gauge the potential of a clone by how suicidal and ok it is with dying, allowing for better response after dispatch if we're quick enough.

MAYBE we can lay traps for him while he chases us in the forest or something. A protracted fight with him won’t do us much good. Maybe someone will have to be bait even, we should antagonize him so he focuses us down since we are the one with the poisoned sword and have less battle exhaustion.

I secretly figure out the DC for each option I give before posting, based on what kind of opponent you are fighting and which options are likely to catch them off guard

Since Myon started out as a Kenjutsu specialist, she gained access to certain Kenjutsu techniques that offer her a greater variety of options as opposed to simply attacking or defending. Successfully pulling off one of these techniques is more likely to have a spectacular result, although trying to pull off these same techniques can sometimes require a higher DC or end in a more spectacular failure. Everything is fairly circumstantial.

If you don’t act now, your comrades are likely to perish! You decide to throw caution to the wind as you charge toward your own Zabuza!

“Finally getting serious?” Zabuza chuckles, charging you as well. “Then let’s see what you got!”

Mere seconds away from clashing with your Zabuza, you pounce through the air and fly over his head!

“WHAT!?”

“DRAGON-HAMMER-FLASH-JUTSU!”

Flying through the air, you let gravity guide your blade while you fall upon the Zabuza that’s about to pounce on your comrades! That Zabuza never sees your attack coming until its too late, your blade carving into his flash from behind!

“DIE!” you scream, your katana slicing him in two!

His blood splatters against your face! Only for it to become water a moment after!

“DAMNIT!” you swear, realizing you have destroyed another Water-clone

>16
“Myon-san!” Kasumi shouts, rushing up and shoving you aside!

Staggering backwards, you gasp as a Kunai knife sails past Kasumi’s neck, leaving a dark red gash of blood!

“k-Kasumi!” you gawk as blood begins to ooze out of her open wound. “No!”

The pale girl gives you a sad smile as she falls to her knees, raising a hand up and pushing it against the open wound.

“How… unfortunate…” she whispers, her blood staining what was once pristinely white skin.

“What the Hell...” the sole remaining Zabuza mutters. “… look at you all. Flopping all over each other. Its like theater."

Gritting your teeth, you stand up and glare at Zabuza.

“You bastard! You were the real one?!” you ask, pointing the tip of your sword at him.

“As a matter of fact,” Zabuza gestures behind him at the mist. “no. I wasn’t.”

You balk at Zabuza as he points at a figure whose hand suddenly emerges from the terrace directly below. Hauling himself up onto the battlefield is yet ANOTHER Zabuza.

“No way!” you groan. “How many damn clones of you are there?!”

The newest Zabuza breaks out into a mocking laughter.

“As a matter of fact, I am the real one.” Zabuza replies. “You were never fighting the real me at all. Merely my Water-Clones, each of which possessed only a mere tenth of my full strength”

"No way.." you mutter.

You stare down the two Zabuza’s before looking back at Junko and Kasumi. The former with a knife lodged into her and the other struggling to keep her blood inside her neck. You have little medical knowledge, but simply a look at either tells you that they could both die very soon.

“Why do you keep doing that?” Zabuza asks as you look back at him. “Neither of them can fight anymore, they are useless to you."

“s-Screw you…” Junko grumbles. “… eyebrow-less freak."

“Heh,” Kasumi smirks, flinching as blood drips through her fingers. “it is rather odd, isn’t it? Yet, not unpleasant…”

The two Zabuzas stare at your companions, seemingly at a loss for words. You honestly can’t find the right words to describe what you are feeling either, aside from the immense anger you feel toward Zabuza. After a few moments, the two Zabuzas sneer.

“Either one of them could drop dead any moment,” one spits. “simply broken tools. Useless, but if you really care so much lets see if you’re ready to die for them!"

Suddenly, both Zabuza’s break out into a run in your direction! The Zabuza you were fighting earlier rushes after you while the newest Zabuza seems to be heading straight for your companions!

You have no idea which one of them is the real Zabuza, if the real Zabuza is before you at all! All you know is that this will likely be the last bout, with the next attack deciding who might live and who might die.

I mean I don't WANT the whole 'our friends die' part, but I'm actually rather inclined to leave zabazu alive, because the dude is going to end up a total badass and it'll be better for our rep to be 'the one who beat Total Badass Zabazu' then for there to be a footnote of 'oh yeah some kid tried to kill off the whole class in her graduation exam, she was the only survivor.'
>>
>>3059099
Or even worse, there are three survivors. Then that makes zabazu look like an idiot who bit off more than he could chew if he's not around show off 'no this fucker kicks ass'
>>
>>3059029
>Use Revolving-Flying-Sword Technique, attempt to slice through both at once!
On one hand this will be tougher to pull off, but on the other hand not only will tossing our FUCKING SWORD like a big boomerang catch off guard, but it seems pretty obvious he's likely to take advantage of our clear want to keep our friends alive and take advantage. I'm pretty sure he sent the water clone to take care of the near dead girls because either
A) we most likely go to defend and waste more energy on a clone while the real zabuza takes the sneak attack
B) we go against the one attacking us and not only fight a much tougher opponent while myon is weakened, but the clone gets in some easy kills.
Dice have a good chance of screwing us over but frankly our back is to the wall and hopefully the surprise move and absurdity of the situation is enough to tip the battle in our favor.
>>
>>3059029
>Use Revolving-Flying-Sword Technique, attempt to slice through both at once!

Woke up to this, fantastic. You're killing me, Banzai.
>>
>>3059029
>>Use Revolving-Flying-Sword Technique, attempt to slice through both at once!
Dad we got this. He's a proctor, isn't he?
>>
>>3059029
>Use Revolving-Flying-Sword Technique, attempt to slice through both at once!
Fuck, I don't want any of the girls to die. We have to trust in the dice gods and our dad's technique.

What happens if we all die? Do we restart as the next batch of students, now with a different final test, or does the whole thing just end?
>>
My 2 cents:

If we fail anything we're fucked, but if we fail or even partially succeed with the revolving sword, we're disarmed. As far as I know our sword is our kit and without it we're at a huge disadvantage.

Lado-Draw means we can strike down the foe attacking our friends, and still have a weapon to fight with.

My fear is using revolving sword, missing, and then having to either fight empty handed or flee while he butchers our friends.

And we really really don't want a 1

>In one last desperate attempt you cast your sword at the Zabuzas, only to watch it go careening into the distance and disappear into the rice fields

>Despair overwhelms you and the world shifts, everything's gone sideways, literally. You desperately try to act, to run, to brace yourself, but your limbs have gone completely numb.

Impacting in the mud your vision settles on the figure standing above you.

Your headless body still stands, fingers twitching, jacket stained by the fountain of blood erupting from your neck.

Your lips twitch opening for a final word. "Oh."
>>
>>3059360
I'd applaud the qm if we actually die here. Personally I'm expecting a "noble sacrifice" from our team mates. Which is lazy.
>>
>>3059366
Us fucking up hard and dying is fine but hows a 'noble sacrifice' lazy writing? If anything a convincing sacrifice would be less lazy than ending the quest for the sake of some crappy dice rolls.
>>
>>3059360
>Lado
It's iaido. QM forgets the second "i" sometimes.

Also, you're pretty much right, but just cutting down one of them might not be enough to save our friends or ourselves if the real one is still alive, and this is the only way we can get both of them.
>>
>>3059366
I like them all so far and feel like their deaths would accomplish nothing.

>>3059384
I mean if we throw the sword and only stop the clone, then we're going to be unarmed fighting Zabuza. And our choices are run, or fight with no weapon, while our crippled friends... can they even run?
>>
>>3059378
Maybe lazy isn't the right word. Stereotypical is probably better. It's a very shonen trope that I'm very tired of. Probably the wrong quest to complain about it in.

Plus there are ways to continue, like the next years class, while having the mc die. It's not just bad dice rolls. It's a long string of bad dice rolls. If it would kill a character in a tabletop game it should be able to kill you in a quest.
>>
>>3059433
Ah, yeah I'm with you on that. We could also be the MC's little brother and time skip to the first season. It would make good motivation if Banzai was willing to scrap what ever he had plotted out already.
>>
>>3059444
That's not a bad idea but I really dig our sword-wielding sharkteeth bad girl. I'd rather be on next year's class, since we can see the immediate aftermath of Zabuza's massacre that way at least.
>>
>>3059444
I really want to stick with our girl. And save our friends.

But mostly our girl.
>>
>>3059507
Agreed. We still have the chance to clutch it out but I'm ready for any consequences.

I'll be really bummed if we're the sole survivor though.
>>
>>3059639
I bet we're going to have to pick between saving Junko or Kasumi
>>
>>3059643
My vote's for Junko. It'd be cool having an angry skeleton on our side but Kasumi is a bit too uncontrollable.
>>
>>3059651
It's a tough decision for me, I haven't made my mind up so far.

I'm probably leaning for Kasumi at the moment, mostly down to usefulness and personal preference.

Like ngl I want to spunk on her forehead dots, but I still could go for Junko. Waifuing doesn't really factor into it.
>>
>>3059651
I'd opt for saving Junko just because she's our friend. But ideal is both.
>>
I like Kasumo, but I don't think saving her instead of Junko could he justified.
>>
>>3059639
Agreed, I'm willing and want consequences or there ould be no point in making this a game, but I'm rooting for MC and hope we win this and survive.
>>
>>3059715
That I also agree, if we end up having to pick only one to save, there really isn't any reason in game to not save junko. It would make no sense otherwise.
>>
But what if we can save 2? Including Myon.
>>
>>3059830
I can see Myon sacrificing herself to save the other two, honestly, even if she doesn't know Kasumi that well.
>>
>>3059830
Then I'd also like to keep Kasumi alive. It just doesn't feel like Myon making the choice if we choose her over Junko.
>>3059832
I agree, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.
>>
>>3059840
>I'd like to avoid that if possible.
Well, obviously. But if shit goes wrong, someone is getting killed, and I think Myon would rather go down than leave Junko to die. She could maybe abandon Kasumi, but only because she's dying already.
The only way I can see us leaving without Junko is if she sacrifices herself so we can take Kasumi and run, but I'm not sure she's in a position where she can even delay Zabuza anyway.

Kudos to Banzai for making us care about the characters in such a short amount of time, by the way.
>>
Let's be fair, if there's any quest where dying this early was appropriate, it's "ninja of the bloody fucking mist"
>>
>>3059863
>she's dying already
So isn't Junko, except her wound is a lot less clean. I don't doubt either can be saved with medical ninjutsu though.
>>
>>3059428
>>3059360
Why in the world would our sword be our only kit? What kind of self respecting ninja doesn't have shuriken, kunai, paper bombs etc?
>>
>>3060113
We do, but all our skill points are put into sword good.
>>
>>3059868
All while taking said bloody mist's bloodiest, most lethal test. Not to even mention being a part of Zabuza's generation, who all were completely slaughtered canonically. Even with MC leniency I was not expecting to come into this test with more than a 50/50 odds of surviving, even more so when we chose to stay for more added glory. I still support that decision but still was a dangerous choice to make.
>>
>>3060113
You're looking at it wrong, it's not that we're only good at kenjutsu, it's just that it's our best skill and what the mc specializes due to preference. We're still as good at kunai skills, ninjutsu (both naruto magic and actual ninja arts), and other academy taught stuff as everyone else. Think of Gai and his clear preference of high tier taijutsu, despite his stats showing he's really good at all forms of ninja techniques across the board.
>>
>>3060136
On that note, reminder that we still have kunai, explosive tags, and a canteen of water to help reserve chakra for our water/mist based jutsu. Losing the sword on a failure would be bad but we wont be completrly out of options. We could always slap down an explosive seal and get the fuck out as a plan z.
>>
>>3060140

Zabuza’s words echo throughout your head as your weary body forces itself to stand firm. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you see your friends dying in the muck behind you.

"Junko... Kasumi..."

“Broken tools”
“Useless”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGS9nrEwXmw

You suddenly look upon yourself, a young girl about to start her first day at the academy. You remember how scared you were, how many frightening stories you had heard about ninja and the evil Lord of the Water Shadow who ruled over them all.

“Daughter, do not cry.” your father whispers, placing a hand over your shoulder as you sit atop the cliffside overlooking the sea. “Would you feel safer, were I to walk with you?

Fighting back tears, you nod your head and accept your father’s hand as he pulls you up to your feet. Before you know it, the two of you are walking hand-in-hand down a foggy road toward the Village Hidden in the Mist.

“f-Father, I’m scared.” you sniffle, gripping your father’s hand tight.
“What is there to fear?” your father asks while scanning through the mist.
“i-I can’t see, what if there’s monsters?” you cry, while fighting back your tears.

Your father comes to a stop in the middle of the road.
“Myon, if there is an enemy here then we will fight them together.” your father says, turning to you with a smile. "You will never have to face your fears alone.”
Your father reaches down, wraps his arms around you, and you give a small yelp as he lifts you up into his arms.
“I will always be watching over you, even when you don’t know I am there. He who fights alone, dies alone.”
You stare at your father, a smile clearly hidden behind his veil as he carries you further down the road to Kirigakure.

“Damn you,” you grit your shark-like teeth in a surging rage. “ZABUZA!”

Straightening your sword-stance, your rev back your sword blade almost as if you were about to throw a stone!

"With this attack, you’ll be risking your primary weapon. It would be foolhardy to use this in anything other than a one-on-one fight, and even then…””

“These people, they have made me strong." you shout, images of your father watching over you and your comrades fighting beside you. "They’ve given me all that I need to slay a demon like you!"

“It is a fine sword, for a fine daughter. Come back with this blade, Myon.”

“Father,” you growl while blood drips down your sword's handle “I’m returning my sword to you!”

Gripping the sword handle tight, time suddenly slows itself as look upon the blur of Zabuzas sprinting your way! They’re bouncing back and forth, as if taunting you to strike the real one before you and your friends fall dead. HOWEVER, if you were to time your strike right with just one slice of your sword—

“I’m sending you back to Hell!” you growl through your fangs. “FLYING-REVOLVING-SWORD-JUTSU!”

>93

You swing your sword, putting your entire body into the strike, and then fling the weapon out of your hand. The blade twirls in a blur of steel, so fast that one might confuse it for a massive Shuriken!

“Nani?!” Zabuza shouts, but its too late!

Your katana slices through the first Zabuza, which explodes in a giant splash of water! You can see the white in the Devil Zabuza’s eyes as your blade continues unimpeded by the water straight towards him!

“ARRRRGH!” Zabuza staggers, his blood blowing away in a violent red mist while your sword continues to fly through the air unimpeded over the battlefield. “i-Impossible!”

Zabuza sputters a bit of blood from his mouth, dropping his kunai into the mud and holding his gut with both hands in an attempt to stop the wave of blood from pouring out anymore!

“YOU—“ Zabuza growls, stomping through the mud towards you. “h-How did you— learn to—“

He seems unable to finish his sentences, yet somehow he is able to keep himself moving towards you despite that massive slice to his torso.

“Why did I get this careless!? GURK!"

Zabuza’s eyes suddenly widen as his body begins to shake.

“a-and why does my tongue hurt more than anything?!”

You look over your shoulder as Junko begins to chuckle, filling you with hope that she may yet survive.

“Tingling and burning… of the mouth and tongue… heh, he’s already feeling the symptoms…” Junko coughs, ending her laughter early

“s-Symptoms?” Zabuza’s jaw drops as he falls to his knees. “You— You poisoned me didn’t you?! Toxin on the blade!?”

“Fatal… when ingested. Half hour at least, but intravenous?” Junko sighs while carefully gripping the kunai in her own gut. “Apparently seconds."

Zabuza lets out a low groan as his eyes dilate and a single arm of his begins to spasm. Finally, the Demon of the Hidden Mist is at your mercy.

Shall you finish him off and finally end his killing spree? Then again, letting the poison run its course will likely be sufficient. Even so, he no longer appears to be a threat. Is it really worth it to let him die here like this? You feel a small tinge of pity for him, and begin to wonder if medical ninjutsu could save him if you were to try? You've heard only a little about what kind of miracles medical ninjutsu could pull off. Aside from all that, your two comrades need medical help desperately as well!

What will Myon do now?

You look down at Zabuza while he writhes in the mud. He’s spent he can’t hope to fight you now in such a state. You’ve really won.

Your hand reaches for a kunai hidden inside your leather jacket… yet you don’t end up brandishing one. You consider saying something to him, anything really, but in the end you realize every moment you stand here is simply a waste of time.

“Junko! Kasumi!” you turn around to your comrades, both of whom look to be kneeling in puddles of their own blood. “I’m going to go get help!”

“s-Sure, I’ll just be chilling here.” Junko groans.
“Yes please. Excellent job Myon-san.” Kasumi mutters.

They’re both looking quite pale, or in Kasumi’s case paler than usual. Without saying another word, you turn away and run past a delirious Zabuza toward the edge of the terrace. With no longer any need to worry about ambushes or stealth, you leap from the terrace as far as you can and fall onto the plains.

“Fuck,” you grunt. “I still can’t see through this damn mist.”

Coming to a halt, you twist about in your attempt to find Benkei Bridge. Panic begins to seize you as you imagine either Junko or Kasumi bleeding out back on that rice paddy. This should be your moment of triumph, but you want to share it with them.

“Help!” you shout out through the mist. “Somebody help!”

Suddenly, you hear a loud banging noise coming from high up above you in the sky. You blink upwards at what looks to be a faint source of flashing light.

“Are those, fireworks?”

Your question is answered by a fierce gust of wind. Raising up your hands, you protect your face from the dust while your leather coat billows against the current.

“THE TEST IS OVER! CEASE FIGHTING! CEASE FIGHTING!” Katsuyori’s voice booms.

Lowering your hands, you suddenly see several men and women scattered about in the fields ahead of you. Within about ten more seconds, the rest of the chakra-infused mist is suddenly dispelled and you find yourself staring at roughly a dozen ninja.

“Look!” one of the ninja cries out. “A survivor!”

The whole group of them begins to rush over to you as you shout—

“My friends need help!”

As strong as you felt after defeating Zabuza, you now find yourself in a rather helpless position. Back up on the highest rice terrace, you stand off to the side and watch as various medical-nin attend to your friends.

“Are they gonna be ok?” you ask an adult, who ignores your question and walks closer to his teammates.
“Get them onto stretchers and carry them to the village now! We can’t afford to lose any more Genin!” he shouts

“Genin.” you mutter under your breath. It feels so strange now, but you suppose that as soon as those fireworks blew up in the sky you had really done it. You had become a ninja.

“ARGH!”

You twist your gaze over to Zabuza as a pair of medical-nin lift him up onto a stretcher. It still felt so odd to you that this Zabuza was just another student. With a sigh, you walk away from these pair of ninja and follow the medical-nin as they carry your comrades down through the rice paddies.

“I don’t wanna go to no damn hospital.” Junko groans.
“Try to stay still, we need to keep that knife in place.” a medical-nin retorts.

“Faster damnit!” one of the medical-nin carrying Kasumi yells. “If this Kaguya dies, we’ll have a riot on our hands!”
“Hahaha,” Kasumi flinches. “ouch. It hurts to laugh. How troublesome."

You watch both Junko and Kasumi, unsure if either one was going to make a recovery from their current state. You follow them all the way from one end of Benkei Bridge to the other, where a large crowd of Kirigakure’s citizens have gathered. It already looks like a riot is on their hands as they attempt to push past a line of Ninja.

“Stay back!” one of the ninja shouts. “The medical-nin need space to do their jobs!”
“Where the Hell’s our kids!?”
“What are you hiding from us?!”

You come to a stop at the top of the bridge as you watch a few of these ninja draws their swords and ward the crowd back so that the medical-nin can come out with your classmates. Not wanting to have to deal with the crowd yourself, you quickly hop off the side of the bridge and walk over the water to the beach on the other side.

“Ugh,” you grunt while looking back over toward the chaos by the bridge. “what's going to happen when they find out only four of us passed that test?"

With that troubling thought crossing your mind, you begin to walk back up the hilly and hazy road. Reddish light shines over onto you as the sun begins to set. While you make your way over to the top of one of these hills, you suddenly spot a figure dressed in a white tunic who stands amidst the sunlight.

“Myon,” Kyoji calls to you. “Welcome back.”

Resting in his hands is your katana and a Kirigakure headband.
