You decide sleep on the day the Broodmother will finally join you. It has been tough to keep feeding her as her hunger and size has increased but fortunately the tunnels are filled with more creatures then one would think. You're also grateful for her warriors constitution it has served well, the transformation is not an easy one, few survive. Your mind drifts as you sleep, something unnecessary for you, but as you've gained a mind you find it helps you sort your thoughts.

But tonight you find no comfort. Normally you're joined by the chorus of creatures connected to you by the taint, but something far more powerful calls you. Something even more ancient and powerful then the Old Gods. Flashes of the Black City fill your vision as you're pulled through its dark twisted streets. Finally the pulling stops as you're vision settles on a large figured seemingly made out of shadows as it rips the flesh from a corpse of light. It turns one baleful red eye as you're drawn closer to it. "Return to me, fulfill your purpose, consume everything."

You awake later with the feeling you've forgotten more, but can't seem to remember.

You try to shake the disturbing dream as you make your way to the building you moved the Broodmother into while she was still a ghoul. You walk in as she shoves several Deep Stalkers into her mouth. She belches as you approach you run a hand down her bloated body calming her. "Hush, I know these little morsels do not satisfy you but they must do for now. But soon you will truly feed." The part of her in your chorus that sound not like a voice but weak mewling softens. You can already feel Genlocks stirring within her. Within a few days they shall burst forth and you can truly begin making this place a home for the Darkspawn. Your last spider has been busy 24/7 trying to keep her feed to birth a strong litter.

You leave the Broodmother to herself with only two Blight Rats to look after her. You must try and expand the influence of the horde as much as possible until then.

You find the skeletal remains of the two Dwarves you brought back, along with their armor. You tear the armor off carelessly knowing what's about to happen to it. The plate was useless to you before, to small, you might have given it to some Genlocks. But you can salvage it now using your magic. The metal bends its form easily to the concentrated power of your magic. You spend nearly three hours just shaping it into proper order before you begin more intricate details. When it's done you're left with a set of well crafted, even by human standards, medium plate armor.

>Medium Plate Armor Set [+5 AC]

You discard the trousers and equip the armor. Finally with some proper armor you survey the Thaig. Though the single entrance is a good choke point you're otherwise lacking in defenses. You consider using your magic but it's probably a matter better left to the Genlocks. You decide instead to fill the entrance tunnel with traps widening the path in places, and using your magic to carve spikes into the ground which the spider covers with web. The rats also manage to infect several others living in the walls of the Thaig, and a wandering spider. You could spread them out through the caverns and spread through the ecosystem but they'd lack the connection to the group mind till more Darkspawn found them.

The spiders are sent out into the Tunnels to scout, able to avoid Dwarven patrols by crawling along the ceiling. Meanwhile you gather all the rats for your experiments. You've cleared a corner with a stone table and cleared the shelves of books that didn't catch your interest, fortunately the pain of your test subjects isn't something you're worried about as you only have the knifes from a kitchen drawer to work with.

First you try experimenting on their size. You don't really know how to stimulate their growth, maybe with a spell but you can't afford mishaps right now. But you do get an idea on the size of the females. You force fed them tainted flesh in a process similar to Broodmothers. You get the idea you might even be able to create an animal Broodmother, over the course of several days you force feed one of the female rats, but eventually her growing body fails.

The males you use for your experiments into making their bite more dangerous. The most you end up with is dead rat with a disfigured jaw. You have no idea how to actually add venom sacks but the bites of most Darkspawn are already filled with disease. Perhaps you can make a spell later using your blood magic you could force their gums to bleed to help spread the taint.

Meanwhile the spiders have helped you map out the area. To the north lies a medium sized Dwarven Thaig. In the south there's a large Dwarven Thaig that rivals Orzammar, it acts as an ancient barrier to the edge of the explored world. In the west lies another small settlement like the one you occupy, it's infested with dangerous wildlife. Finally to the west is another Thaig that acts as a trading settlement with the surface.

In the meantime the Genlocks have finally been born, forty-eight in total. They've wasted no time repairing what they can, gathering useless metal, and preparing the forges. A few rarer types were born with them.

>-Genlock- Small sturdy creatures spawned from Broodmothers who were once dwarves. These Darkspawn make up the main bulk of any horde, and are used as cannon fodder. Individually they are the weakest but make up for it in overwhelming numbers. These creatures possess a surprising cunning and intelligence compared to the other Darkspawn that they’re found with.

>-Alphas- These Darkspawn set themselves apart from their normal brethren not because of their increased strength, no, but because of their above average intelligence and cunning. Normally these Darkspawn will bully their way into power above their lesser brethren. Able to operate individually if need be.

[1/2]
>>
>>3059725
>-Emissary- These Darkspawn surpass nearly all other Darkspawn in itelligence. Able to hold the title of some of the few speaking Darkspawn. They are the magic of the users of the horde. Unlike most mages their power does not from the fade, but shares more in common with blood magic as they draw on the taint within them to use their blight magic, however it’s worth noting they can still use regular magic in some cases.

>-Forge Master- A cleaver Darkspawn, normally a Genlock. That shows a instinctual knack for crafting, something that makes it invaluable as it can give directions to its lessers to make sure your Darkspawn are properly equipped.

Since the Archdemon was killed not so long ago, our enemys will still be ready in fighting our kind.

This seems a chance for claim unknown lands and establish there without anyone knowing (obsiouvly not now, if we first drain this region for creating an horde, it would be ok to then move out).
Also we should pick a skill.

This is an alternate universe the fifth blight never happened and they killed the last old god (to your knowledge) silencing the calling all the tainted hear.
>>
>>3059923
Ah ok.
Still caution is better, the quest started with a crushing defeat afterall. So claiming new lands and prepare to conquer the continent there, doesn t sound like a bad idea.
That said taking this dwarf kingdom could work too (but probably at the price of being revealed; at a certain point someone will found out anyway, but if we can avoid the secret to spread it would be beneficial).

Your roughly in the southern Frostback Mountains to the west of the Korcari wilds. Just for reference.

Also I forgot to say it but killing the last old god happened about 2 decades ago, so some people still have experience fighting Darkspawn, and a lot of Wardens remain.

You waste no time with the new Genlocks born. The Forge Master starts the furnaces of the smithy, and begins pumping of armor with the scrap metal assembled. The Alpha of the batch quickly bullies its way to the front shoving others aside, picking only the best pieces for itself. You command twelve to start training as rogues perfecting their skills of stealth. Some are put aside to begin digging into an ore rich wall to supply the forge master with metal. The last group you send out to recover Lyrium, with orders to avoid detection.

Meanwhile you set a task for yourself. You begin recalling what necromancy you can remember from your time helping command the fourth blight. To succeed you must call forth a demon from the fade and bind it to your will. You take one of the Rat corpses and open a portal to the fade where its soul once was. You send out a mewling call, seeming like easy prey. As it passes into the rat it twist and warps the body trying to change it to its will.

"Cursed mortal let me out of this rotting prison!" From the tone you take it to be a Rage Demon, fortunately one of the weaker kinds of demon. It turns and regards your tainted form. "No... Begone foul monster I will not be your pawn!" You fill it try to recede through the portal but its now trapped. You cast a spell and tighten a prison around where it entered. It has no choice to do your will.

>>You've Gained Spell [Novice Necromancy] This spell caster can draw in demons from across the Fade and bind them to mortal shells. More powerful demons, and thus more powerful undead, are harder to control and will likely require a deal to bind.
>-Skeleton: A simple corpse now controlled by a rage demon. Not very powerful, but easy to control.
>-Fanged Skeleton: A corpse possessed by a demon of hunger. Their gluttony drives them forward descending on their prey like savage animals.
>-Shambling Skeleton: These Skeletons are possessed by a demon of sloth, and reflect this due to their slow movements but they hit like a truck. Due to the strong demon possessing them they can be tricky to control in large numbers.

Any remaining Genlocks are set to tunneling, while the rats and spiders set to finding an already open tunnel to the surface. The animals are sent throughout the tunnels to search for a tunnel not guarded by Dwarves. You being studying necromancy further, using the rat corpses for it, but you're afraid you may have reached the limit on what you can do. But if you could convince a powerful demon you could perhaps get its secrets.

>-Skeleton Archer: A Skeleton that's been given a bow, and has the knowledge of an experienced archer.
>-Skeleton Mage: The body of one who was once a mage now inhabited by a weaker variant of demon.
>>You've reached the max Necromancy you can research without the help of a demon.

In the meantime the animals have found a small way to the surface, but its near a Dwarf controlled road with heavy traffic. The Genlocks are also nearly finished with their own tunnel as well. The Alpha guides you through the Tunnel, shoving others aside like a small angry bodyguard. The tunnel rises at a steady slope where it levels out three times into large round chambers. In which the Genlocks carve fortifications out of the stone. It should take about another two days to be finished and by then the Broodmother should give birth to her second litter.

It seems there's little for you to do right now as the Genlocks tunnel. So you clear out an area on the floor in your lab and sit down, beginning to meditate. You feel yourself drawn in farther as you drift to the realm of dreams. The twisted landscape confuses you and forces you to take a moment to stop and collect your bearings. Once you feel like you aren't about to fall off the flying island you materialized on you close your eyes and begin to search for the magic that called to you. You are startled as you narrow it down to the one place you can not go. The Black City, the one constant point in the realm of dreams and souls. Always there at the same distance no matter where you are in the fade, always watching.

You feel a powerful presence nearing and turn to see a demon of desire. She regards you coolly with mild interest. "Well, what do we have here. This is quite unusual." The demons voice is rapturous stirring things you didn't even know you had. You shake her influence off though, you're no fool and know desire demons aren't to be trifled with.

"Tell me demon what could lie within the Black City." You demand forcefully.

She wags a finger at you. "Now, that's no way to talk to a lady. If you truly wish to know I cannot tell you. We only know what the mortals believe. "Makers throne, tainted by the sins of man, birthplace of the first Darkspawn, blah blah blah." Though I'm not sure why you'd want to know. You're kind are always far more interested in killing." You begin to tell the demon about your dream, though you don't know why it would help. "Hmm. Perhaps something lies there and calls to you."

"What do you mean you don't know. The fade is your home, you should more than the mortal home."

"I do not know because no spirit or demon has ever been to the city. The closer one ventures the more we lose who we are." She says with little interest in the conversation. "Now perhaps there's something we can help each other with." A tiny glint of mischief flickers through the demon's eye.

"Very well demon I accept your deal." You say to her delight. She tells you where to find the clearing and leave.

You come across a large area where the fade seems to recede and level out in some form of order. At the center surrounded by a circle of false lyrium lies a large bear you'd almost mistake to be blight infected. You close in on it, yet it does not move, merely content to watch you. "Ah... it seems... my next meal... has come. Tell me thing... did another demon send you?"

"How did you know." You ask suspiciously.

"You... are not... the first she has sent. I'm afraid... it was to your death. You see she covets... this place because here... ones power is absolute." He says with a bored voice that seems half awake. "Her meals were filling... at first... but now they bore me." He says with clear disdain. "You stand no chance of beating me here... tell you what. You agree to the Sloth Demon's counter offer and leave him making your way back to the Desire Demon. She is easy to find still where you left her, you tell her the job is done. "Ah! Such a good little pet. Come now, once I have my power you shall have your reward." You march back to the clearing, keeping her in front of you. But as you enter the clearing you notice the Sloth Demon is nowhere to be found, the Desire Demon catches your expression. "Wait... You didn't kill him did you? You fool!" She screams as she lunges at you only to be swooped up by massive claws.

"After all this time someone finally lured you. Can't have you hurting the one who finally brought you to me." The Pride Demon says as it tightens its grasp on the tiny in comparison Desire Demon. "You so foolishly thought you could keep me prisoner in my own domain? You even had the gall to send mortals in what, an attempt to weaken me? But now you're in here with me and nowhere to run." He says with a sadistic growl of pleasure. He brings a clawed thumb up to her throat and begins pressing with increasing pressure. She begs him to stop. "Shh now, all I want to hear is your screams." He pops her head like a grape as he finally crushes her form, her body turns to vapors and seems to flow into him. A boom of what looks like magic rings out with him at the epicenter. He turns to you with a grin on his face. "And to think I have you to thank for freeing me from that shrews trap. I suppose I did offer to teach you something in return so what will it be?" You get the feeling you should get what you want and leave before he feels you become an annoyance.

>New Figure of Note: [Dolomon] A powerful ancient Pride Demon who calls a realm of the fade known as the Fractured Loch his domain. Dolomon was once a Spirit of Wisdom who occasionally dealt with powerful Tevinter mages. Eventually a mage that was dying from a failed assassination event came to Dolomon begging him to save his life. Dolomon did such entering the mages body, binding them together. Eventually though with the knowledge of Dolomon’s wisdom the mage grew arrogant and corrupted him into a demon of pride. Once he became a demon he seized control of the mortal mage turning him into abomination. It took several scores of powerful mages and soldiers dying before a magister could finally banish him.

>Several centuries later he was tricked into being imprisoned in the seat of his power by a desire demon. Once she died at his hands thanks to the help of you he was freed and regained control of his domain. He regards you warmly as an interesting curiosity.

You ask him instead to teach you how to shapeshift and take the form of animals. "Bah! And here I thought you wanted some real knowledge. That's simple, you think this is what you look like hear and thus it is so. Were you to be able to believe yourself a god and had the power to back it up you could make it so. The same applies for your world, but you cling to the form you were made with, instead you could be a bird, a horse, perhaps even a dragon. You must find the creature you wish to be and not only copy it but become it to your very soul." He lets out a hand and tree begins to grow at his side. "Look do you truly believe this tree to be living, to be wood. No it is a manifestation of my will. To become a creature you must merely believe yourself to be it till that is the truth." He finishes before walking to the center of the clearing and beings raising it up as some sort of tower. "Now I have a realm to repair, she actually made changes while I was imprisoned."

>You've gained [Shapeshifting (Animals)] With enough time and effort you're able to completely copy an animal. Not just from the outside, but to the core of its very being. With enough training, time, and effort it may also be able to empower these forms.

"Is there something I could give in exchange for more information." You ask.

"What do you have that I could possibly want?" He says preparing to dismiss you, but stops at the last moment. "Perhaps there is something. From what I remember of my time in the mortal world I quite enjoyed." He says with a devilish grin. "I'd quite like to return. Now there are three ways to do it. First, capture a mage put me in there body so I may take control of them. Two, create a point where the veil is weak enough for me to pass through. Three, make me a constructed body. Something befitting my magnificence." With that he waves his hand at you. "Now begone."

You feel yourself forcefully dragged back into the waking world as he ejects you from his realm. Through the group mind you find you've been gone only for a few minutes.

>-Rogue- Shrieks are born with a predisposition for stealth, but others must earn their way. Rogues are normally Genlocks, and sometimes Hurlocks, that have undergone intensive training with ranged weapons and the ways of stealth. To become an assassin one must first be a rogue.

With time to burn over the next two days you spar with the Alpha, checking its capabilities. You have to admit that it has some skill. He's taken to favoring an axe and shield and of the Genlocks knows how to wield them the best. Its the final day with only minutes to go before we breach to the surface and you grab your axe as you enter a small ring to spar one last time, you say ring buts it's more a circle drawn in the dirt. You being circling each other preparing for the first move. After several tense moments the Genlock makes the first move charging you. You sidestep a slash, missing you by inches, and try to knock him to the ground by striking him with the pommel of your axe which he blocks at the last moment. As he pushes you back you bring down your axe. But he gets within its reach and the head passes him, the shaft bouncing off him. You feel his axe bite into your side but your armor protects you. You smash your elbow against his helmet sending him away dazed. As he stands there trying to regain his footing you blast him with a powerful burst of air sending him out of the ring.

You feel like he's really improved most Genlocks wouldn't have lasted half as long, or have gotten a hit in. He leaves as you exit the ring and you make your way to the forges as the Forge Master finishes making more armor. The Broodmother has given birth to her weekly litter prematurely meaning there are less than normal. But the timing is good for the raid.

The horde as assembled as through the eyes of the diggers you see them break through to the surface. You feel a surge of bloodlust rise through your connected minds. The question is how many you take with you for the raid, some must be left behind to defend.

The Horde: 2 Corrupted Spiders, 4 Blight Rats, 1 Dwarven Broodmother, 58 Genlocks, 7 Genlock Rogues, 2 Genlock Alphas, 5 Genlock Emissary’s, 1 Genlock Forge Masters.

we need to scout near us first and then going for a small caravan or a small village.

the animals will mostly scout , and transport things after the raid. In a battle they are probably not a great menance (maybe in numbers).

You've gathered those you'll take with on the raid in the first chamber of the tunnel to the surface. Throughout the chambers guttural growls and roars deafen the chamber to all else. In gesture you hold out your battleaxe. "Forward." The Darkspawn begin to march to forward. The remaining Darkspawn you don't take will stay behind to protect Carsh Thaig and the Broodmother in case anyone wonders close. Your Darkspawn raiding party steadily march out of the tunnel, corrupted animals at their side.

The corrupted spider ascends into the trees. The rats spread out, and you send the Rogues you took out to act as scouts.

As your party marches forward a slight flurry of snow begins, confirming your thoughts that you were in the southern mountains. Already your scouts show potential targets. At long last the Darkspawn will spill blood again.

(We've been autosaged and this is just a .5 thread so we're going to leave it off there. Hope you all enjoyed.)
