You go to your food storage, and treasure hoard. Now that you've finished the shrines you can properly venerate the gods and thank them for the boon. You gather a shard of metal from a broken shield with a piece of raw Mahog meat for Meliach the Iron Warrior, and for Menelda a broken human bow and a apple. As you place the offerings on the respective altars they evaporate before your very eyes, the vapors float into the eyes of the carvings and let out a red and blue glow respectively. Apparently you have pleased the gods. But there is yet more to do. You find the Cave Trolls, and Fire Troll not assigned to a task.

>You've gained -Stone Walls

You tell the gathered Trolls that you'll all be leaving on an expedition to the forest in a day, and they should gather supplies for the expedition. A more pressing concern enters your mind, your children. You decide to find them and spend some time with them. By the time you return, depending on the time it takes, they could already be full grown.

While the others gather supplies you spend some time teaching your twins how to wield a sword, small human ones from the treasure hoard. They don't seem very good at it, but you're just happy to have the bonding experience.

Suddenly as you finish up Stumps rushes in and tells you he wants to talk in the shop.

With a heavy sigh you know your duties can not be put off any further. "Boys look at me. With me gone I'm trusting you to look after your mother." They both give you a serious nod. "Very well, Stump take me to your workshop." He ushers you into his workshop and pulls out two large stone slabs, one holds an engraving of what looks like a bow, and the other a crossbow.

"So Chief, I've been working on this for a while." He says almost faster then you can understand. "Now I've drawn up some weapons to help us in the range department. Problem is with the prototypes, and limited resources and time I can only make one." He explains to you he's come up with a design for something called a "Great Bow" the flings something more akin to pikes then arrows, its long ranged and more powerful then the other option but it's large even for Trolls and needs to be planted into the ground to fire. The other is a crossbow, it's slightly worse in most areas but can be fired more easily.

We can go down the path of siege warfare with the Crossbow when they come to ballistas.

I was thinking really securing a food source so we can do regular offerings to the gods
Maybe try making the females into a priestess class, I mean if they survived giving birth to a troll they deserve at least some respect

(BTW this and your future siege weaponry were completely unrelated)
You give the go ahead for the Crossbow design. Stump puts away the design for the bow, and began gathering materials around from his shop. You enter the courtyard and see the other three Trolls coming with you have loaded themselves up with large homemade canvas backpacks. Qgdab is also there loading up the fourth pack which you assume is yours. You saunter up to the Forest Troll, and he speaks before you can ask. "I know what you're thinking, and thank you for the offer but no I'm not going with. The forest is a home I've left behind long ago." He lets out a deep sigh and looks at you once more. "Good luck Chief and stay safe. Let me warn you as well that the Elves that live in the forest are hostile to Trolls. I'll look after things while you're away."

With everything packed you set off to the forest. As of now it was a two day journey, but fortunately your travels were uneventful. The sun is setting as you all stand on the edge of the forest.

You and the two Cave Trolls prepare spots on the ground for yourselves, while the remaining Fire Troll keeps watch. You stoke a large fire in the center of the circle where you've all laid down some canvas to sleep on. Soon sleep finds you, the almost musical backdrop of the forest helping lull you to sleep faster.

The Fire Troll keeping watch however does not fair as well. The forest edges are alight with glowing plant life, and small shimmering bugs. But the Troll hears something else as well, in the underbrush the snapping of twigs, at the edges of his vision eyes light the forest. The Troll sets still like stone as he feels a wet growl on the side of his face. Suddenly a hand clasp his shoulder, causing him to turn in terror. Only the neutral face of a Cave Troll greets him, he gestures to an empty roll with his head. "My turn for watch."

By the time the sun rises both Trolls look visibly shaking and are complaining about the forest. You pick up camp and begin making your way deeper when you find a yourself unable to proceed through the dense foliage without turning left or right. The left seems to continue mostly the same as before but takes on even more Fae aspect. The right grows dark and twisted with the light almost seemingly devoured.

For some reason lost to you and the others you avoid the seemingly safer left path. The right path proves not to be misleading as the farther you go the less light there is and a thin fog begins to settle over everything. The Trolls grow increasingly distressed the farther you advance, and you can't blame them, the farther you go the more it feels like something is watching you. In the distance you occasionally hear the snap of a twig, or the tumble of loose soil. You finally come into a clearing near a slow stream, but you aren't alone. A form larger then even the Cave Trolls begins to rise up. You're greeted by an almost Troll like monster, it pounds the ground with its large fist. After a tense unsure moment it charges you, its 12ft mass on a warpath against your 10ft one.

The creatures charge seems unstoppable and there's little to do as you try and fail to sidestep it. With a powerful swing of its thick tree trunk of an arm it sends you spiraling through the air. It grabs the other Fire Troll with surprising ease, causing him to howl in pain as it tries to crush him in its grasp. One of the Cave Trolls grasp a dying tree and heaves with all his might yanking it out of the ground. The Cave Troll lets out a rallying cry and charges the beast smashing the tree across its back, a crack rings out as the dead wood snaps in half from the force. The creature recoils from the force of the blow dropping the Fire Troll, you fear he may be dead as he lays still for several minutes but finally he lets out a pained groan.

Finally you're able to get up, and draw your weapon. Fortunately it seems your armor blocked most of attack. The creature rears back to attack but the other Cave Troll catches its arm holding it in place. The one who hit it with a tree delivers an uppercut sending teeth flying. Disturbingly in Troll like fashion you can see that the teeth are already healing.

The Cave Troll rams into the creature and grabs the remaining arm. Seizing the advantage you find your strength. You charge with everything you have, steps thundering against the soft ground. You bring your blade down in a powerful blow as you let loose a war cry. Your blade leaves a terrible gash across the chest of the creature, it oozes a foul stinking black liquid. With a stylish twist, as the creature howls in pain, you twist in a circle and completely lop the creature's head off.

You all cheer in triumph as the body falls to the ground. The celebration doesn't last however as the creature somehow begins to get back up. Whatever made this creature it's certainly unnatural. You have to stop it before it becomes a problem again, but how?

You hack repeatedly at the "corpse" while the other Trolls manage to get a fire going. Its body no matter how much you hack into it refuses to stay down, always trying to rise after you lift your blade for another blow. Eventually after your mighty form begins to tire they finally get the fire going. The Cave Trolls move back as the Fire Troll lifts one of the logs like a torch it throws the fire across it with no ceremony. The fire seems to trigger what survival instincts the creature has left as it gets out from under your blade and rampages through the clearing. It tries to put out the fire bashing into the ground and withered trees, but all is for naught as it is consumed. You believe it to be over as it falls limp to the ground. But a ethereal light leaves the back of the creature and takes on the face of a Forest Troll. It lets out a piercing wail and disappears into the cursed woods.

Though it is gone you can see the others remain visibly shaken.

You approach the body and begin to search it for anything of use. Sadly the corpse is of little use as it's almost nothing but there's not much other than charred flesh. As you're about to give up one of the Cave Trolls finds a necklace that seems to be a simple wood carving. Its not much but better than nothing. Perhaps Qgdab could tell you more about it when you get back. The other Trolls clearly protest at the idea of progressing further so with not many other options you turn back and take the other path. Fortunately for you all no trickery seems to have happened and the path back is easy to find. The twisting path full of bio-luminescent plants is still there but seems to have shifted in some way. As you walk down the path small glowing bugs like dandelions drift around your heads. They prove a calming presence a Cave Troll puts his hand out for one to land on, but its suddenly frightened away. A arrow flies from the brush and pierces the Cave Troll's hand.

You turn to the source and a hail of more arrows pours out. Most of the arrows glance off your thick hides but a few find purchase.

(>The least fetish thing I could find)
You look around and find the largest rock you can find. With both hands you wrap your arms around it, and heave planting your feet into the dirt. The roots that covered the boulder surrender it to your massive muscular form. You heft it over your shoulders as you shout at the others to move. You fling the boulder at the bushes destroying everything in its path. A few lithe figures dart from the bush, but not all can flee as you see the bush torn apart by the boulder and crush three of them. As the figures that made it out settle you can finally make out what they are, Elves. They waste no time continuing their attack.

Six remain four women, and two men. Though with elves you can never be to sure. They're quick and slippery but don't have much in the way of things that can put you down. But if luck favors them a few arrows to the head might kill one of you. The leader you hear spit in, the little you know, common. "____ ____ kill the disgusting beast, ___ be done ____ it." As the Fire Troll pulls out an arrow that just missed his junk you think the time for diplomacy has passed.

The others you can tell already are going to try and capture the women so you figure why not help them. You sword isn't exactly good for taking prisoners though, at least alive, so you decide to focus on the males. You trade places with a Cave Troll near the men and hack at one with your sword. He never saw you coming, somehow, as you hack him in two with a mighty swing. He top half goes flying as he's cleaved in two.

Another Elf nearby jumps on your back and begins hacking at you. You struggle to reach her but eventually grab her. She lets out a scream as you hurl her off you into a rocky outcropping that breaks her spine on impact. You see two of the women have been caught by a Cave Troll. Only one woman, and a man remain.

The last women is swept up by the Fire Troll, and the man is killed as a tree is smashed into him by a Cave Troll. One of the Trolls is busy pulling an arrow out of their eye. "Ow, ow" He says as he gingerly taps it. Thinking quick you manage to find some vines that act as acceptable rope and bind them. Though you don't understand Elvish you know someone cursing you out when you hear it.

As the cave Troll takes all three hefting them over his shoulder you make the decision to head back. You had hoped to probe the forest deeper, but with all this unexpected resistance this would have to do. You begin the trek back through the forest, chopping at the plants that get in your way using your sword like a machete. You're able to make your way back to where you made camp the first time.

As you suggest laying down for the night here the Trolls who kept watch protest. You might be able to make it back to the Wasteland if you push it, but you'll be setting up camp by midnight. There doesn't seem to be anything around the clearing though, despite what they say.

You tell them to Troll up and make camp like you said. "I'll keep first watch this time then." You swear sometimes it feels like you're surrounded by babies. The Trolls do a nice job of setting up camp. They set out a canvas for the women to sleep on while they sleep on the forest floor. The sun begins to set and curiously you see the women start to become very frantic and frightened. You shrug it off, probably just trying to escape.

You sit on a long near the edge of camp taking up post, sword drawn. The first few hours are peaceful but it begins to change the higher the moon climbs. Occasionally a snap can be heard in the underbrush. Eventually you think you see the glint of an eye for a second.

It all finally comes to a head as something crawls from a bush in front of you. Its looks like a wolf walking on all fours, but its body is also shaped like a man. It moves back and forth in front of you, clearly defined muscle ripples along its form. Over on the opposite side of the camp you can hear more things moving in the underbrush. It doesn't attack though almost like its waiting for an opening.
