Finally after two years in the service of the Dark Queen Quintis you have finally been promoted. No more marching through filthy peasant villages administering the Queen's justice, this is your chance to rise through the ranks of her Majesty's armies and become one of her generals, or so you thought. Being placed in a garrison out in the middle of nowhere wasn't the promotion you had imagined, but after the death of your commander, your rise through the ranks seemed that much more possible. Through your leadership, your garrison holds its ground through an assault and infiltration by rebel forces and manages to capture two of its heroes. After transporting the two of them to the Capital, Queen Quintis decided to promote you to Captain and to add you to her collection of personal agents.

Ignoring his comment you press him further, “You have to know something, how do you get paid, how often is it, how much.”

The mercenary bursts out laughing “I’m not the fucking quartermaster am I. I don’t know whose paying us all I know is that he’s paying”

“Would you like me to start removing your toes then? One for every answer I don’t like.” You declare coldly, staring the man down.

>Last hurrah, give me some d20+3s

Equipment:
>Full Plate Armor
>Plate of the Savior’s Mercy (once per in game day you will survive a mortal blow)
>Halberd
>Short sword
>Coin of Fate (re-roll 1 die with a coin flip [1=crit fail 2=crit success])
>Helmet of Clear Vision (+2 on perception checks, can see through minor illusions)

Perks:
>Bush Wacker: Easier to spot and set ambushes
>Elf War Veteran: +2 to your defense against non-magical ranged attacks and +2 to your dice damage.
>Commanding Voice: Your words will be heard over the loudest of noises and when directly giving orders, the recipients of those orders gain a +2 to their rolls. You also gain +1 when intimidating others.
>Iron Gullet perk. It will now take a copious amount of alcohol to get you even tipsy, a blessing and a curse; however spoiled foods and poisons now have a hard time making you sick +3 to resist the effects of poison.
>Smart Attacker: You’ve been there attacked that and gotten smacked for it so many times you finally learned something (The aggressive stance no longer deducts defense and adds +1 to your dice rolls for combat).

The man kicks out his legs and wiggles his left foot at you, “Why don’t you start with this one, it’ll even out the count.” The mercenary says matching your stare.

Before you can say anything Mildri bursts through the tent’s front flap stammering “C-C-Captain, we um, I mean uh, Y-Y-You need to see this.” From her worried tone you and the way she could barely breathe while trying to speak it was something serious.

“Ah, my friends must be here, have fun Captain, be seeing you in a little bit,” the mercenary calls after you as you and Mildri make your way out of the tent. Stepping out into the harsh afternoon sun, it takes a moment for your eyes to readjust while you take stock of the situation. A group of ten armed men had formed a small cordon around the tent with their horses. Five of them had dismounted and were speaking with an increasingly nervous looking Selenas and Randolf. The five all had their hands on their weapons and were slowly backing Selenas and Randolf toward the tent. While the other five men maintain the cordon were all fingering javelins and short composite bows.

You make your way over to the five on foot and insert yourself in-between them and your companions, “What is the meaning of this,” ask as the five men size you up.

“We were wondering the same thing,” one of the men answers “Who are you lot and where are the two who are supposed to be on guard.” The man asks rather pointedly stiffening the grip on his scimitar.

Time slows each step the mercenary takes toward the tent, an eternity. You spy your companions clustered around the tents entrance as you planned, this was going to be an orderly yet hasty retreat.

The odds didn’t look good, they had you surrounded in a ten against five match, although you have to admit you’d faced worse odds during your fights with the elves, but then you’d always had a clear line of retreat and you weren’t the one in charge.

You give your companions a nod and they start to fall back into the tent as you place yourself in-between the mercenaries and the tent flap. At the first hint of treachery, the mercenaries on foot unsheathe their swords and the ones on horseback ready their shots. You quickly fall back into the tent but not before a volley of mixed javelin and arrow fire shoots toward you.

>Due to your companions repositioning they are all safe from missile fire, I need some d20s to see if any of the missiles hit you as you pull back.

Your rolls: 16,6,4 = (9) +2 [Experienced]= 11
Enemy rolls: 9,5,2 = (5) +2 [Trained] +2[Small Volley] = 9
11-8 = 2

>Volley missed

Arrows and javelins flit past you and your mind flashes back to the Elven front; you tuck in and close off the gaps in your armor as best you can remembering all the time you’d spent under arrow fire from those pointy eared bastards. All five shots miss and bury themselves in the cloth of the tent or the sand around your feet. Scrambling back you duck under the tent flap and into the darkness inside.

“Orders Captain?” Randolf asks on your right, readying himself for the first mercenary to come bursting through the flap.

“Where do you want us,” Selenas chimes in on your left, her sword glowing softly in the darkness.

>Give me another set of d20+3 to set your ambush in time and then:
>Mildri (4/4 Energy) Casts:

>Tier 2: Small Cluster Spell (2-3 turns to cast)
>Tier 3: Big AOE Spell (3-5 turns to cast)
>>
>>3081262

>Alright I think this is the first time you’ve actually entered combat with Mildri available so let me explain how her spells work. She can cast 3 tiers of spell.

>Tier 1: Single Target Spell (1-2 turns to cast)
>Tier 2: Small Cluster Spell (2-3 turns to cast)
>Tier 3: Big AOE Spell (3-5 turns to cast)

>The spells work as described, but you also have to look out for Mildri’s condition while casting. Casting spells is hard work and too many of too strong a spell will exhaust her.

>Currently Mildri has 4 Energy to work with and casting a spell will cost her energy equal to that spells tier (ie: tier 2 costs 2 energy to cast). As long as Mildri’s energy is not 0 she can cast any spell, but if that spell would leave her with negative energy Mildri will pass out after casting it leaving her extremely vulnerable to attack.

“Quickly, away from the flap,” you bark, “let them come in but stick to the shadows they might as well be blind in here, we’ll use that and hit them once they stumble in.

Your companions quickly split up and head to the darker parts of the tent. “Mildri I need a spell on the entrance hit as many as you can but keep it small.” Nodding, Mildri starts her incantations.

You position yourself just beyond were the light from the entrance will fall and wait. Right on queue the five mercenaries who were on foot push through the flap and find them staring at a wall of darkness that erupts into flashing steel in moments as you and your companions press out of the darkness.

On your left Selenas and the Scout carve into their targets. Selenas neatly sidesteps a panicked swing from her target before a single slash takes the mercenary’s sword hand off. The man takes one horrified look at his stump before Selenas’s blade plunges into his neck.

A similar scene plays out between the Scout and his target, before the mercenary could even react the scout closed and ran his shortsword, straight through the man’s gut. With a good twist and then pull the scout withdrew his weapon from the man spilling his guts onto the tent floor.

Meanwhile on your right Randolf’s target makes an unfortunate mistake. Swinging wildly to keep Randolf back, the mercenary’s hand collides with Randolf’s buckler smashing the man’s fingers and causing him to drop his sword. Smiling with glee Randolf closes punching the mercenary in the face with his buckler, then striking the side of the man’s knee with his mace. The mercenary’s leg buckles and he topples over. With a downward swing Randolf caves the man’s face in with his mace.

Your own fight goes much less quickly. Seemingly ready the mercenary blocks your first blow and retaliates with a quick stroke at your neck, your lean back letting the blow sail past you as you flick the butt of your halberd upward and give the mercenary a glancing blow as he attempts to dodge it. Readying yourself for another clash, you notice the Scout engaging the other remaining mercenary while Randolf and Selenas close around the backside of your target.

Realizing that his options were few, the mercenary closes with you getting just inside you range and delivering a solid kick to your chest causing you to stagger back, if it weren’t for a deep slash into the man’s side from Selenas and a subsequent kick to said wound from Randolf, the mercenary might have gotten you for the same. As you right yourself you notice the Scout’s on going fight with his new opponent.

Things weren’t going as easy as last time with the two of them exchanging minor wounds. Only the mercenary’s in ability to see very well in the dark, lets the scout hold on to his slight lead.

It is then that something strikes you, a sharp pain in under your left arm, you look down to see and arrow sticking out of your armpit, another arrow and a javelin penetrates the tents outer wall and land nearby. Testing the wound you find that the arrow hadn’t gone too deep and you pull the shaft out wholesale and ready yourself to fight again. You’ve got to finish this fight fast before another volley comes through.

“Randolf, fall back and cover Mildri, She needs to finish that spell or we’re doomed.” You shout as you reengage the mercenary. Breaking off Randolf follows your order and repositions to Mildri as her chanting enters what sounds like its final words.

You and Selenas work in tandem to finish the mercenary off. You feign toward his gut and the mercenary reflexively parries, right into Selenas’s sword which buries itself into the man’s neck. Selenas pulls her sword back out leaving the mercenary to gurgle out his last words into the sand while you turn your attention to the Scout and remaining mercenary.

The tide of their fight was turning to the mercenary’s favor. The Scout was sporting several new wounds which were slowing him down noticeably, while the mercenary looked like he had finally shaken off the initial shock of your ambush and was out for the scout’s blood.

You’re about to rush to the scouts aid when both Randolf and Mildri scream “GET DOWN!” you turn in time to see a large array of extremely sharp looking icicles pointing at you. You quickly grab Selenas by the collar and pull her to the ground with you mere moments before the wall of spikes flies over your head.

The shrieks of both man and horse fill the air as the ice spikes shred the tent wall behind you. A multitude of meaty thuds is heard and you turn in time to see a spike filled corpse fall into the tent. You and Selenas rise to your feet once again to go assist the scout and watch as he steps out from behind his ice spike filled opponent who collapses to the ground. You take a peek outside to find the other mercenaries pin cushioned as well as a few of their horses. You turn in shocked amazement to face Mildri who is breathing heavily and shaking a layer of frost from herself.

“The first one to speak is Randolf who leads off with an amazed whistle “Man I love magic, way to go Twitchy” he laughs, thumping Mildri on the back.

“I didn’t know mages could do stuff like that.” Selenas chimes in staring down at one of the spiker mercenaries.

>This will be all for today, I might make one more update, but if I don't see you guys tomorrow.

You quickly tally the dead and do a count of the horses outside, ten and ten it looked like they were all finished off.

“It looks like we got them all, good work everyone. Now as nice as it would be rest, I doubt the locals will simply ignore us now. Randolf round up our horses, we need to get moving soon.” With a weary sigh Randolf heads outside.

“Scout, can you walk?” you say turning to address the man.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine,” he answers as he wraps up his cuts in some cloth.

“Selenas, see to him and Mildri get them ready to move.”

With that last order you turn your attention to slack jawed mercenary commander lying in the back of the tent. “You looked surprised not expecting me to return so soon?”

“I-I-I” the mercenary stammers unable to find his voice.

“You want to tell me everything you know, I understand, so why don’t you start with where your friends came from.”

Eyes still glued to the ice impaled corpses the mercenary answers “The Oasis.”

“Finally some answers, where is this Oasis?” The merc doesn’t responds, just stares at the bodies “I can bring my mage back if you want, she can make your death so much slower than yours, I’ve seen it”

With wide fearful eyes the merc snaps his eyes to you “A- Alright its west of here further into the desert.”

Pulling out your map you have him indicate mark its exact location.

You’d think that mercenaries would carry more money with them, but these unlucky bastards were dirt poor. Fishing through their pockets you find 20 gold from the lot of them. You also find one of them carrying a stone necklace similar to the one you found out in the desert, it looks like the important ones among them must carry these.

With that finished there was only one thing left to do. You take a quick glance out hole in the tent and see Selenas strapping in the surviving merc and checking on the Scout. You head back inside and to the bound mercenary you had interrogated. Similarly to his boss the man is stuck staring at the impaled bodies of his friends. He doesn’t react as you approach or when you stand over him, or even when you thrust your halberd’s spear point into his head. You move swiftly to the Randolf’s interrogation target and find the man beaten beyond recognition, from his breathing you can tell he’s still alive, but unconscious. His death is just as swift as his the other guard’s. Just as you pull your weapon free from the man, Randolf steps into the tent.

“We’re ready to go Captain, and I suggest we hurry, a crowd is starting to form.”

“Good, let’s get a move on then.”

As you walk back to the horses Randolf leans close to you. “Are the loose ends taken care of?” he asks tilting his head back toward the tent. You simply nod in response. “Good, wouldn’t want word getting back to them of our presence, right.”

“I’m quite sure that this,” you gesture to the ice spike impaled mercenaries, “Has already given us away.”

“No, this just looks like they fucked with the wrong person. They’ll be on edge, sure, but they won’t know it’s us coming for them.”

“I hope so,”

You and Randolf both mount up and from your horse you can see the crowd formed in a massive circle around the tent mimicking the mercenary’s cordon of horses. With a shout of “OUT OF THE WAY!” and a sharp kick to start the horse into a canter, the crowd opens a corridor for you to pass through. As you pass once more through the crowds of the market, you hear several shouts of “Halt!” and see spears and other polearms standing above the masses, and pushing through them towards you.

As you reach the edges of the settlement, the crowds thin, and you can see the open desert just ahead, past a few more tents. Before you can get there though a line of polearm wielding guards rush out from between the tents and bar your way forward. “Stop right there stranger,” says a familiar looking and sounding man in the line of guards. It was the man from before only this time instead of looking bored and annoyed, this time he looked somewhere between furious and terrified.

“Out of the way, we have no quarrel with you.” You call out to the guards.

Sudden recognition flares on the familiar guard’s face, “I know you. Didn’t I tell you I don’t like troublemakers? Yet here you are having caused us a great deal of trouble Stranger.”

“As I said, my quarrel is not with you, it is with these mercenaries.”

“Oh yes I can see that, but what am I supposed to say to the leader of those mercenaries when he asks why twelve of his men are lying dead in this town.” The guard’s stare hardens as he shouts out “Dismount your horses and come quietly strangers and no further blood need be spilt on this day.”

Behind you the other guards wade through the crowd, you are being boxed in and soon will have to way out. You face down the guard again and ask. “Tell me this, when did the mercenaries by your loyalty.”

The guard recoils in shock at your statement “I am loyal to these people and their safety, those filthy sell-swords, don’t command me.”

“Then why do you hinder me?”

“If I don’t capture you stranger, then who will the mercenaries blame for the deaths of their friends if not us? Now enough words stranger, Surrender now.”

“We’re running out of time Captain.” Randolf warns as he places his hand on his mace and begins to eye the guard’s line for the weakest point.

>Randolf’s right you’re out of time you have to ride out of this now before it’s too late

Serve the people HA! I wonder how many of your fellow townsmen have lost loved one's in the caravan raids, hell the guards here have probably lost a fair few, and from the way that barbarian was speaking about women I doubt their wives and daughters were killed fast.

I wonder what do you think the queen will do when she finds out this town has been the staging ground for the caravan raids.do you think she will be more merciful then the mercenaries, and before you say we won't get a chance to report who says we have to? there are enough orphans widowers here from their raids that one will seek justice and queen can be quite generous to informants

So no your Quite dead either way Guardsman however, if you let me go maybe I can get the local military to deal with mercenary's and I might forget about you harboring enemies of the empire but that would of course mean you get out of my NOW!

“There is no need, for this guardsman. I’m an agent of the Masson Empire, investigating these mercenaries for crimes against the Empire. No doubt you have noticed the disappearance of several caravans in the area. I’m sure that some of your people were in those caravans.” Behind you, the small crowd of civilians stops moving and you hear murmurs of agreement. “I know these mercenaries that you are working so hard to appease, are the ones behind it. If you let me go I promise you that the full might Empire will come down on their heads if you let me go.” There is a nervous shifting in the line of guards as you continue “However if you stop me, the Empire will send more people to find out what happened to both me and the caravans, and what will they find here, but accomplices to the mercenaries crimes, who then will be the target of the Empire but you.”

You lift your voice in even higher and turn to address the crowd behind you. “What say you, do you wish to live under these mercenaries thumbs for the rest of your lives, or do you wish to live free.”

Turning back to the line of guards you ask “How do you want to be remembered as cowards and traitors, or as the heroes who finally had the guts to stand against the mercenaries.”

“Can you really defeat them stranger?” The guard asks. His words aren’t demanding, accusatory, or skeptical, rather they are pleading, begging for you to answer.

“I can, but you have to let me go.”

The man looks away from you for a moment before facing the other guards in the spear wall “Lower your weapons, they’re free to go.” Immediately the line of guards raises their weapons and steps aside leaving a gap for you to ride through.

As you pass through the gap, you lean over to the guard in charge and say “Thank you, your mercy will not be wasted.”

“Just hurry stranger, the mercenaries will come to investigate soon and I don’t know how long I can stall them.”

“We will,” and with that you spur your horse in to a gallop and take off into the desert.

You ride hard all the way Filt, making the three day journey in only two. Finally after two days of running your horses ragged and getting extremely little sleep, you arrive back in Filt. Word of your arrival spreads quickly and the Sergeant Major one of the first people to greet you as you and your companions dismount at the stables.

“Captain Baldur, did you find anything?” she asks snapping off a sharp salute as she does so.

“Yes, and I’ve brought it with me,” you say gesturing to the mercenary slung over a horse. “It would seem that someone has hired a group of desert mercenaries to harass and destroy the caravans. This man is one of the representatives of that group. From what I’ve gathered from him so far they are based out of some place called Oasis.” You say handing the map to the Sergeant Major. “I need you to send out some scouts to take a look at this Oasis and report back. We’ll also need to question this mercenary a little more to see what else we can get out of him.”

The Sergeant Major nods in agreement and barks out orders to some of the gathered soldiers before you add “We need to move quickly on this, those mercenaries will notice that this one is missing and will likely be more cautious and ready for an attack, I’d like to give them as little time as possible to prepare.”

“Very well Captain, I will see to it.” And with that the Sergeant Major turns from you to address the small army of attendants and soldiers that had gathered around her.

>Last post of the day

The Sergeant Major opens her mouth to start handing out order when you remember Turaif and its citizens, “There one more thing you should know,” You shout to her. The people inhabiting the settlement of Turaif are going to be visited by some of those mercenaries soon and citizens are likely to be sympathetic to our cause. They may be useful in an ambush.”

“I’ll get some men on it Captain the Sergeant Major replies before turning back once again to address her troops.

With the larger matters handled, you head over to your companions. They are in the midst of pulling their equipment off the horses, when you arrive. “Well done everyone I’d say the investigation portion of our assignment has gone well enough, even though some of us need to work on our aim,” you say delivering a good-natured smile toward Mildri who quickly hides herself behind her tome. “But we’ve found out who was behind the attacks and all that remains to be done now is to eliminate these mercenaries. The Sergeant Major is following up on our leads as we speak and we will be ready to move on the mercenaries in a few days, for now I suggest all of you get some rest, the next few days will be busy.”

Tired and saddle sore, your companions trudge off toward the inn and a good night’s rest. As you all walk to the inn, you fall into step next to Selenas, who’s usually bright face is dark and sullen. “Selenas, are you alright, you’ve been looking distraught ever since the interrogations.”

She looks at you, her eyes tired but something in her expression hints at sadness. “It’s nothing,” she answers brusquely shrugging you off.

“I know it’s not just nothing Selenas, did what that merc say get to you?”

“I said it was nothing!” she snaps. You recoil in shock surprised at her outburst. Seeing your reaction Selenas sighs “Sorry, I’m tired, I just need some rest and I’ll be fine.” She says wearily, pulling away from you as you enter the inn.

Everyone heads off to their rooms and you do as well, whatever was bothering Selenas, could probably wait until she was ready to talk. Settling down yourself you strip off your dirty armor, you were going to have to give your equipment some attention soon, the desert sand seemed to scuff up everything and you simply collapse onto your bed.

>Sorry guys but this will be the only update for the day, I had a lot of IRL shit go down, tomorrow should be better.

You awake at just before dawn feeling well rested. You were going to have a word with Selenas today; whatever was bothering her yesterday was likely still weighing on her mind. While you wait for a saner time of day to speak with her, you tend to your equipment, doing your best to buff out the accumulated scratches and ding in your armor, as well as sharpening your halberd.

You are in the middle of looking over your helmet when there is a knock on your door. You walk over and open it to find a very tired looking Selenas. “Hey Baldr, I-I know it’s early, but can I talk with you for a minute.” Selenas rasps out her voice sounding weak and scratchy.

“Certainly, in fact I wanted to have a word with you as well.” You beckon Selenas in and she seats herself on you bed. “So what’s been bothering you?”

Selenas lets out a sigh as she begins “It’s that mercenary, when I was questioning him, he said somethings that got to me and I. I beat him for it.”

“Well, that’s not odd Se-“

“Please Baldr let me finish. When he was talking, I kept seeing things- seeing ‘him’ again. My mother’s…” Selenas struggles with herself seemingly unable to get the words out, until she spits “Her tormenter, that vile, awful…” she pauses for a moment, taking a breath and collecting herself “I saw him in that mercenaries face and I… and I… I beat it to a bloody pulp, or I was going to until your words snapped me out of it. That should have been the end of it, but now I can’t stop thinking back to that moment. I was going to kill that man simply over something he said. I told you to let me end things peacefully then I just go and beat him anyway because he talked like ‘he’ did.” Selenas is shaking now and her voice sounding like gravel in her throat “Am I ever going to grow up. I tell people to be kind, find a different solution, one without suffering or bloodshed, when I’m no different from them!” She stands and screams out those last words before slumping silently back onto the bed.

>“But you are different Selenas, you tried the peaceful route, not everyone would’ve done that.”

“That’s okay Selenas everyone makes mistakes, I’ve made more than I can count. Every mistake is a lesson, one we can learn from and move on from. I know what it’s like to have a sensitive past. I often find myself lingering on my time in on the Elven Front, but I’m learning to put it behind me. It’s the same thing with your past, you’ll face it again and again unless you can learn to live with it and finally put it to rest.”

After a moment of silence Selenas lets out a sigh “You’re right Baldr, you’re always right” she chuckles “I guess I just lost faith in myself. Thanks for… Thanks for just, talking” she finishes with a tired smile.

“Anytime Selenas, now get some rest, you look awful.” Selenas lets out a small laugh “I feel awful,” before leaning back and falling asleep on your bed.

Quietly, you gather up your equipment and slip out of the room letting Selenas sleep. You proceed out into the inn’s main room, to find Mildri off in one corner nose deep in her tomes and eating breakfast. You think about getting her to come with you, but decide better of it, your companions deserve a day off. Without further thought you head out the door, only to hear a sudden clatter behind you, followed by Mildri staggering out of the doors, the rest of her breakfast crammed into her mouth, and desperately trying to stow her books as she follows you.

“There’s no need to come with me Mildri, I’m giving you some time off enjoy it.”

“But I-I want to come with.” She squeaks “I-I can help you with whatever you’re doing.”

>Let her come with she’s not doing any good here.
>No she can stay she’ll only get under foot.
>Send her on and errand.

“Very well, we’re going to see what we can do to help out the Sergeant Major with the preparations for the assault on the mercenaries.”

Mildri breathes a sigh of relief when you accept her help and she seems less shy than she normally is, almost skipping as you make your way to the Sergeant Major’s headquarters. When you finally arrive you find the Sergeant Major’s office a hive of activity with runners and subordinates moving to and fro, as the woman herself, you find her in a room with a large table in the center, the entirety of the table is eaten up with a massive map of the area. On top of this map are a multitude of papers that look to your eyes to be reports as well as the Sergeant Major’s own little notes. The Sergeant Major doesn’t notice you enter as she stares at the map while delivering orders to nearby attendants.

Rather than interrupt her, you decide to examine the map and reports a little more closely. From what you can tell, The Master Sergeant is already setting up battle lines and preparing for a general siege of the mercenary’s base. The scattered reports detail everything: troop counts and readiness, supply lists, local terrain, and weather patterns. The Master Sergeant is if anything thorough.

When the Master Sergeant finally stops speaking, you immediately step in, before another person can speak. “Master Sergeant,”

“Captain Baldr,” she responds without looking up “You’ll have to forgive me for my lack of protocol, as you can see preparations for our attack are keeping me busy.”

“I understand I just came by to see if I could lighten that load.”

At this the Sergeant Major looks up from the map to give you her full attention “Thank you for the offer Captain, but most of this is just simple approval and paper work for the most part, much of the actual work won’t be done until the scouts return from their mission, but-“

“Sorry for interrupting ma’am,” a younger looking solider says as he pushes his way through some other attendants. “But, one of Sergeant Crumar’s conscripts just spear him through the leg, we’ll need somebody else to take over.”

The Sergeant Major sighs “If you’re willing to Captain, there’s an assignment.”

“Why not, I can whip some young pups into shape.”

“Excellent, I look forward to seeing your results, and thank you for the help.” The Sergeant Major gives you a salute which you return before following the young trooper out to the drill yard.

Outside, you find what you’d expect from a bunch of fresh faced conscripts. Twenty young men and women of vastly varying heights and builds milling around in a tired and terrified confusion, just waiting to be screamed at for the next couple of hours.

“Here they are Captain,” the man says as he gestures to the crowd of conscripts, while he quietly shuffles behind you and plugs his ears.

You think back to your own days in training and try to remember just how your drill sergeant must have felt seeing a bunch of weak, pathetic bunch of excuses for human beings milling around pretending to be soldiers. He must have felt as you do now, with a mixture of disgust and righteous fury. “Taking a deep breath you prepare your lungs and throat for the coming hours and hours of yelling

You can use once per day on a roll

No,
This is probably the first time we actually train people and not just command them so I guess we can do a lackluster performance to start, that 11 at least will make it not be a total embarrassment

No, no need to.

>Sorry for the long update time guys, but I've got Finals coming up and this will probably be my last post for a bit. So vote on this and we'll pick up the next thread either this Friday or Saturday.

“ATTENTION!” you shout at the top of your lungs. Every recruit jumps in surprise and faces you, none of them come to attention they all just stand and stare at you. This was going to be a long day you think to yourself as you shout. “In formation come on, let’s go you piles shit.” The recruits snap out of their dumbfounded states and shuffle slowly into what you can only guess was their formation. With a heavy sigh you walk along the “formation” and correct stances and positioning with liberal uses of insults until the recruits actually stand at attention in the correct formation.

Once finished you head back and stand at the front of the recruits again. “I am Captain Baldr, I’m here to replace Sergeant Crumar after one of you inept idiots managed to injure him. First things first, you have got to be one of the worst bunch of bumbling morons I have ever met. I don’t know what Sergeant Crumar taught you, but apparently it didn’t stick well enough. So now, since you dumbasses have trouble even getting into formation correctly, we are going to practice until I’m satisfied. Now scramble so we can do this again, and if you aren’t mixed up enough I’ll be sure to move you all personally,” you finish slamming your gauntleted hand into your palm for effect.

You expected this little practice to take only a few hours not the whole day. You try everything your own drill sergeant had done with you in an attempt to get them into formation, but nothing seemed to work. It took absurdly long for them to finally get into formation correctly just once, but they could never repeat it until just a few hours before sundown when finally the recruits managed to enter formation correctly three times in a row. You had them do it ten times more just to be sure they could do it, before finally in dismissing them.

You slide down exhausted next to Mildri who to your surprise had stayed with you the entire day. “I-Is it always like this?” She asks.

> “No, we should be drilling by now, not learning to get in formation.”
> “Yes, it’s usually like this with new recruits.”
> “No, but I’m not surprised, they did manage to injure their other instructor.”
