Salaman: "Well I mean she *is* my sister..."
Alina: "Are you being serious right now?"
Ulric: "Please don't do this Salaman, I don't want to hurt you as well."
You shove Ikara so she's between you and Salaman. Then hold the bar of your hammer to her throat, she wont be able to cast if you choke her.
Ikara starts violently thrashing but it doesn't feel like she's making a serious effort to break free.
Ikara: "Brother! Help me!" She yells in a panicked voice.
Salaman: "I'm sorry Christof..."
Salaman casts grease. He sprays the grease all over you and Ikara, a pool of the slippery liquid forms at your feet. Ikara is almost completely covered in the stuff and worse it seeps inside your grip and lubricates your palms and fingers. The sorceress begins to make a serious effort to escape and slips out of your grapple.
Alina and Ulric ready their weapons. Both Salaman and Ikara start to cast.
Alina: "You brought this on yourself Sal."

This will probably be far less effective than you think, we are pretty close to them already and Salman will just spam summons and Ikara, if we let her, will target the rest of the party.

>"Resist Magic."
You successfully cast Resist Magic increasing your magic resistance.
Alina: "Resist Magic."
Following your cue Alina casts resist magic on Ulric.
Ulric gives Salaman a double slash for 13 and 16 damage. He seems to be getting less hesitant and flinchy when attacking humans.
Salaman: "Mage Armour."
Salaman casts Mage Armour covering himself in a blue suit of conjured armour.
Ikara: "Blink!"
Ikara casts Blink. She starts rapidly dissappearing and reappearing where she stands.

You cast Dispel Magic on the sister. Although you cast skillfully the spell... jams. She must have magic resistance either through magic items or through specialised training.

The weight of her resistance and the spell you're maintaining was too much to handle.
Ikara: "Ahahaha How quaint!"
Alina fires and arrow at Salaman for 8 damage.
Ulric attacks Salaman but only manages to do 6 damage through the armour.
Ulric attacks with his offhand scoring a critical hit! doing 28 damage and knocking him down. Salaman stops moving.
Ulric: "AAAAAAA! I took it too far!"
Ulric drops his weapons and starts trying to heal Salaman.
Ikara: "Wait what!? Oh gods. Oh gods."
Ikara casts Baleful Polymorph, a white beam of energy crackles from her fingers striking you but it fails (possibly due to your own magic resistance.)

Ikara: "W-Wait can't we talk about this!?"

Ikara: "WHAT!? Psychopath! Lunatic! Berserker!"
You time your attack to hit her inbetween her blinks. A successful hit doing a serious 36 damage.
Alina shrugs the Magic Resistance she cast on Ulric and casts Dispel Magic on Ikara successfully removing her Blink. A possible rookie mistake on Alina's part, without having

to maintain that Blink spell it will be easier for Ikara to polymorph you.
Ikara casts Baleful polymorph on you again she both succeeds in the casting and in hitting you with the beam.

Ikara: "Oh really? I thought you were going to incapacitate me? Sounds like you're not sure you can win. I don't need to worry about Salaman, your healslut is tending to him. And I don't think you can resist another polymorph. Let's dance."

You better finish this fast. You unleash your fireball scroll to try and burst her down.
You unleash the elemental fury at the sorceress right in front of you. Every combatant is caught in the explosion.
Ikara takes 23 damage. Her reflexes are pretty sluggish.
Despite your excellent dexterity you are unable to evade your own point blank fireball. You take 23 damage.
Ulric tries his best to shield Salaman from the blast. He takes 23 damage.
Alina is outside the blast radius.
After the explosion a cloud of thick smoke remains.
Alina: "Is it over?"
The smoke cloud slowly clears revealing Ikara is still standing.

Lel sorry I didn't make Alina do anything last round. Let's just say she was preparing to cast Dispel Magic on Christof if he got morphed. Piercing Arrows aren't better than regular arrows against enemies with no armour.

You resist the hex a second time.
Not even preparing to cast her next spell she shouts in anger.
Ikara: "WHY. WONT. YOU. CHANGE!?"
You grab her by the collar. Ulric is no longer with Salaman and stands behind her swords ready. Alina has moved into melee range and is holding her dagger to Ikara.

You punch her out and she collapses into Ulric's arms. After checking to see if she's actually unconcious you tie her up and gag her.

That's the last update for today. Seeker Quest should continue in a week.

I feel kind of bad the way the story turned recently. Feels like the players are alienated from the party members thanks to their betrayals (Ulric drawing his sword on Christof was a spur of the moment idea that I didn't expect to evolve into a fight.) Salaman's sister being part of the enclave was something I planned long ago along with the possibility of Salaman siding with her. Since the shortest path was taken to the wizards was chosen and a really good roll occurred causing thae party to arrive instantly the two betrayals occurred basically back to back. (In hindsight I should have nixed the possibility of Salaman going rogue since that would of meant two party member fights in a row.) On the other hand the combination of the qm (and his mistakes), players and rng creating the story collectively is part of the experience of a quest and It seems the players are having an emotional response to the events which is great. (I am actually considering a roll back to an earlier point in the quest but that probably wont be necessary.) Feel free to tell me how you feel about recent developments in the quest and play captain hindsight. And as always thanks for playing.
>>
>>3100966
I was talking in character, not as an upset player.
>>
>>3100966
The playerbase of quest in 4chan has always reacted quite strongly to betrayals. Players often expect unconditional loyalty from party members(npcs). This expectation can, and often is, subverted. But if done poorly it can be pretty frustrating.

Ulric incident comes out as exaggerated, to me at least, but it was in line with his previous conduct and general moralfaggotry. We could have avoided that fight, we could have handled that better, we could have sorted out Ulric's problems earlier, we did not and that is ok, that is what we choose.

But salaman? That feels to much like a coin toss. It didn't even have modifiers. "You bought individual tents, so Salaman likes you more: +1 to loyalist." or something. It may be stupid, I am pretty sure it is stupid, but it could have helped. "We should have done X to prevent this! It is all you retards fault!" The dice is part of the quest, yes, but it is modified by the stats and often somehow contextualised. A random encounter or two are expected. Playing russian roulette is fine, as we choose to play it. (Taking the most dangerous path, etc)

But now, how things turned to be, Slaman is the only culplic, he batayed us. Full stop, that is it. No one else to blame. It feels like we lost the control that we previsly had. Even the illusion of it.

>(I am actually considering a roll back to an earlier point in the quest but that probably wont be necessary.)
Some quest can withstand that kind of thing without a single problem, others not and die. I have no idea what determines what happens, so be careful if you actually do that.

Also, don't forget to archive part 40, and this one too.
>>
>>3101041
To finish: interaction with characters in a quest is heavily based on trust. At the start the "mood" of the quest and the setting provides a "base" trust that the players have. If the level of trust in what players operates is betrayed too often it can quickly descend into levels of paranoia than not even a schizophrenic shadowrunner would consider functional.
>>
>>3101041
>>3101056
Hey thanks for the advice. I'll avoid betrayal plot points in Seeker Quest for the forseeable future. And use them more thoughtfully in future quests.
>>
I'd like to weigh in on this too.
I largely think everyone, or at least a couple places are greatly overreacting to these "betrayals".

First, Ulric was being emotional and moralfagging and it got out of hand.
He didn't "betray" us. He pulled a sword during an argument that didn't require weapons. That's it.

Now, Salaman. He has ALWAYS been very neutral and open and upfront about it. When confronted with a choice between his sister and his allies, he chose his sister. Barely. Then, his acts of "betrayal" include freeing his sister, casting a protective spell on himself, and getting his shit pushed in.
I'm not 100% okay with him yet, but neither am I shocked and dismayed by his treasonous betrayal.
Dude sided with his bitch sister.

Now anons want to arrest both of them. Oye.
Ikara attacked us and aided kidnappers, fine, take her to Oakheart when the time is right. Let them deal with her. (Don't be a dick and break the stone anyway or something.)
But Salaman could have literally flown the coop but chose not to. And also, his great crime was defending his sister. So what, we're going to arrest Salaman, our own teammate, for interfering with official police business? Wait...
Preventing us from arresting her with our authority of being a guy with a hammer? Wait...
Bitch please.

Immediately giving up on anyone who isn't 100% soulbonded loyal to us just seems like a childish response to me.
>>
>>3101102
>Don't be a dick and break the stone anyway or something.
The stone is illegal, that is part of her crimes. Crashing the economy with inflation and destabilizing the whole regions IS a serious crime. And that is what she wants to do with that stone, or a better one.

Salaman aided a member of a criminal organization that kindsnaps citizens from a nearby city by using mercenaries, utilices illegal arcane arts and experiments on humans. And pretty sure that the Archduke wanted to use adventurers to soleve the evil wizards problem. And it can even be considered an extension to the previous quest, that was state sanctioned.
>>
>>3100966
>I feel kind of bad the way the story turned recently.
Don't, it's still a great quest.

>>3101073
>I'll avoid betrayal plot points in Seeker Quest for the forseeable future. And use them more thoughtfully in future quests.
This is a fine take away though.

Salaman's decision seemed abrupt, like I felt we should have had more of an opportunity to sway him by coming up with something. But otherwise, I had zero issue with it.
>>
>>3101115
>Crashing the economy with inflation and destabilizing the whole regions IS a serious crime.
...with molybdenum. Whatever you say Officer. I'm just saying that she came through with info, so breaking the stone would make us a dick. A Leagal Beagle Dick, but a dick. And being a law enforcement dick might be what you think Christof is all about, but I disagree.

Christof deciding between upholding the law or keeping his implied promise to not destroy the stone if she cooperates seems like two possible in-character choices.

Oh and thanks for your advice too.

I can forgive ulric, we shouldn't have even escalated that fight. But salaman just turned around and started casting at us like it was nothing.

My biggest concern is what would happen to us if we failed to win this fight? Taken prisoner and experimented on? This isn't just some rough housing.

the fag in purple next to Ikara, Niiqarquusu, he's the one who we (meta) saw visiting the King of Uthain. I always thought he was one of these fuckers from the Lasal Empire because of his skin color.

But now I'm curious what is the deal with those dudes

Those fags are Illumes, a pseudo religious order of telepaths. They can communicate with each other mentally at intercontinental range and collectively form a sort of telephone network. The King of Uthain and the Arch-Duke of Aflor and this evil wizard enclave all have their own Illume. Killing them is a serious crime basically everywhere (they give a prized telepathic servant to every influential ruler in the known world). They follow strict vows concerning non-interference, and privacy of information. Their self proclaimed purpose is to spread knowledge and provide communication.

He made a decision and acted on it rather than whinge over it.
It just happened to be a bad decision. I see his position, it's just a stupid call.

>My biggest concern is what would happen to us if we failed to win this fight? Taken prisoner and experimented on?
I don't think it would have gotten that far, but I don't really know. This is a good question to ask Salaman.
My point is that some anons don't WANT to ask him.
They want him dead, his sister dead, anyone who aids them dead, and anyone who betrays us dead. Immediately.
Those who feel this quest should be about drenching the earth in the blood of those who would dare to betray us, I can only respond with pic related.

Oh so the skin color and pimpin' outfits are traits all Illumes share?
>>
>>3101462
Yes they're an ethnicity as well as an organization. All the normal members wear the same uniform.

>Host: "Is pimpin' easy?"
>Illume: "...hell yeah."
>Host: "Somehow, that's correct!"
