+Intro+

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

Xyptus reports that a rumour appeared that some gangers from Tachion Primaris underhive are selling an atomic warhead, which they (presumably) dug up from the rubble somewhere in the underhive. How will we react?

Industry booms on Varda as rumours spread about new deposits of precious metals being found. You may either use this to your advantage:
a) encourage migration from other planets - d7 x 100 000 immigrants arrive

c) Dispel the rumours, Astartes deal only in cold, hard truth

On Terra, a relic was found - a book which allegedly belonged to the God-Emperor himself. Rumour spreads quickly, inspiring faith and hope among the masses, however mere days later book disappears from the public view. Suspicion falls on the Holy Inquisition and some overzealous believers start riots and kill two Inquisitors, including their retinues. Retribution is swift and cruel, but the deed is done - Inquisition was hurt and it's members are more on the edge and out for blood everywhere.

=====Triot Actions=====
I strongly think we should keep pressing the advantage on Triot until we can be sure the orks won't reunify for a counterattack.
We should secure the key coastal areas of the western continent. Specifically we should make sure to secure the archipelago in the south that spans the two continents. Use the many Rhinos on Aspera Dominus to keep mobility between these islands.

While the Imperial Guard undergo their sustained bombardments our force should raid ork hideouts and drive them into the open.
For tactics I'd suggest we strike fast with thunderhawks, deploying assault marines and land speeders from the air, who can deploy teleport homers inside the ork position. We can then teleport our terminators into the ork's midst and really gun them down.
Meanwhile the Fortress of Vengeance and our Predators will have positioned themselves around the ork position ready to gun down any that flee and aren't caught by artillery & thunderhawk strikes.

We should also have Averon Birg investigate any potential investment opportunities they might now be on Triot. I'd recommend looking into the Merchant Ariana Belinde and VaskCorp from Doria, but we'll see what Birg has to present to us before making any decisions.

+Triot Campaign follow-up operations+

Averon Birg:
>My liege, in order to properly assess the situation, I will need to spend a few years here both to examine the state of abandoned old Imperial infrastructure and to prospect untapped natural potential. As planet is in a serious state of disrepair and most of the knowledge that was gathered before was lost, this could take up to a few years and I would be busy this whole time. Your mission to find out more information about Daikan Alepros and Tesalia is sabotaged, something goes wrong and a few of your operatives go missing, permanently. However because of your focus on Tartarus and marginal success, some evidence appears of what they uncovered before they died.

It seems that Tartarus has been slowly, but steadily arming itself in secret. Exact of evidence of what kind of armaments are we talking about is missing, but it was serious enough to be mentioned. Also, you found a photo of a weird looking captain coming to meet Daikan, your servitor identifies her as Amia Hilyard. In the same photo, you can see Arron Settel standing in the side of the room. He is guarded from the sides by two Cygnoids and seems to be in much better spirits than the last time that you met him.

We're crafting the armour out of our own pocket. It's our payment for the material goods. Instead of paying Kerr he asked us to make armour for Engel.
It will be artificer-tier from Seran himself. Built to Engel's specifications. All the usual Sororitas patterns and designs, artistic swirls. Engel's choice of colours, she might want to follow the order colours or go for a fully gold suit perhaps, and we can work in any relics/roasrii she wants in the armour. Any stylistic options are up to her, we could craft removable/attachable parts for ceremonial purposes or whatever as an option.

>Any call regarding repair conditions? And regarding turning the ancient armours into Artificer armour.
Unfortunately Revenant armour cannot be recovered, it is much lighter than Astartes armour and damage to it renders it unusable quite easily. It will be cheaper to produce a new one, rather than trying to repair this one. Regarding Thunderhawk - it will be complicated, in particular because of the unusual make of the bird. It will cost 25W only a bit cheaper than Thunderhawk price when ordering from Nestorium, but it seems like a powerful machine that will be quite useful and more "experienced" than brand new birds. In order to turn them into Artificer Armour a substantial cost will have to be invented and it will take a long time, but it will be cheaper than crafting new ones. Every unit will cost 3W and will take a year to produce.
>>
>>3102393
Cool. So we'll repair the Thunderhawk and I'll make it a 'named' one? It can be brother-pilot Asteus' ride.

As for the Artificer armour. 3w per suit for 15w total project cost. I'd like to assign techmarine artificer Tibverius to it when he returns from Mars in 365.M41. What kind of time period should I put on him?

Note: I want these to be genuinely unique peices. Not just 'artificer armour' but integrated iron halos and such. Something to become part of the company captain's hereditary panoply.

Sounds good. However I would prefer either MS to deal with the outcome of this one or us sharing decision, so we might need to leave it for now.

>Engel's armour
In that case, Seran contacts her for specifications. She isn't shy. The armour she wants is functional, very tough, but flexible and with a number of secondary functions. However despite all of that you with a smile notice, that she included a few adjustments that are purely stylistic as well - she clearly cares about how she looks in it. Seran nods and ponders:
>I think it will take me a few years to get ready. Alternatively, I could rush it and order some non-essential parts from other Artificers. What's your call?

A) She deserves it for the next Emperor's Ascension feast [15W, Seran completes it within a year]
B) It is a gift, but one that we will deliver at our own pace [5W, Seran will take 3 years to complete it]
C) She might have already forgotten about it, but we will deliver it nonetheless! [Takes 5 years for Seran to finish, but you spend only 1W in materials to build it]

Do you want to add a personal mark onto the armour?
A) Yes, a small stylised scythe and raven wing on the inside of her collar
B) Yes, a tiny engraving "strategic girth" on the belt around her waist
C) There's no need.

We could fashion the symbol of her order from a large gem, and possible encase her Rosarius within.

We could fashion a nice cape of Gnar fur to keep those thighs warm, with her order's colours dyed into it. Also removable if needs to be low-drag.

Add subtle mountings for exterminator cartridges to her gauntlet.

It is a work of art, richly ornamented and suitable for ceremonial functions, but nonetheless very secure and made from the toughest materials. Small engravings on it depict battle scenes from the history of the Order of the Bloody Tears. You have decided not to leave any personal mark on it, but you did make the armour modular, so it can be worn in parts and indeed thigh armourplates can be removed, though it is up to Engel if she will choose to do so.

Engel gains a "Master-Crafted Gift Armour", please add it to her inventory.

She is extremely pleased with the gift:
>Chapter Master, there was a time, long ago, when our Order and your brotherhood were almost at each other's throats. I am very pleased that we could put that behind us and that instead of exchanging bolt shells we are exchanging gifts.

Do you want to answer anything?

Interesting idea, please elaborate on how would you go about it and what kind of Recon Squads are you talking about it?

Also, apologies about delay tonight - we ran into warp difficulties.

We look forward to preserve the sector with us within the future.

"I feel exactly the same way Canoness. Whilst I may be an astartes, and you may be a woman of faith, we serve a similar role as the leaders of potent, self-contained forces. I would greatly like to see us working together on the battlefield in the future. And please, call me Brother if you wish."

I believe HH-era Recon Squads were fully trained power armoured marines serving a Scout role. They had chameleoline cloaks and stalker bolters.
I could certainly see them being a subset of the 10th company. Consisting of the same kind of marines that become scout sergeants (ie earn their experience and full augmentation, but still prefer scouting).

These suggestions are very nice and will be implemented as well. Do you want to hunt down the Gnar yourself? If so, please describe what weapons do you pick and roll d100

A) Just hunt it down with a Thunderhawk, your time is valuable
B) Hunt the Gnar in a full suit of armour, you don't want to take risks
C) Do it the old fashioned way - take the spear, sword, light fatigues and hunt it down like a man
D) Man, beast, nature - nothing else. Go out into the cold naked.

Take the Shadow Guard as well.
We can harvest the pelt ourself but use the shadow guard to shepherd the gnars and make it simple and quick.
Use Ironhaunt to make the kill clean and have a nice pelt.

This isn't for a trophy, but for a gift.

Overwhelming caution and advantage to ensure we can get a nice, clean kill with a blade. This should allow the best possible result for the gift, rather than letting single combat damage the pelt for a personal story later on.

The recon squads were fully trained battle brothers who were experts in recon, sabotage, scouting. Serving as the eyes and ears. My urge to constantly suggest things tells me that they could be a less expensive/heretical version of our Revenant armoured troops equipped with surveillance, sabotage, and recon gear specifically and be more of a use to us on open field battles

Trianon's expedition reaches Tarantis system in a great hurry, however at no point does the librarian rush more than necessary. Trianon has seen the Chapter change over the years, but one thing that he learned from the Chapter Master is that often greatest victories are achieved through cautious planning rather than rash bravery.

Tarantis has once been a thriving mining world, however the entire Tarantis System was destroyed during the Gothic War, when accursed Abaddon led the Black Crusade and used unholy powers of ancient devices to convert the system's star into a supernova whose shockwave destroyed all the worlds in the system.

Because of this reason the whole system is filled with a massive asteroid field of debris that once made up numerous planets. A lot of it was blown away into the distances of the cosmos, but bright blue pulsar that was left behind, still exerts enough energy to keep a lot of the remnants of the system locked in the eternal dance of the gravity field.

Trianon looks at the charts and nods to himself:
>This is a very dangerous system to navigate. We will have to be careful.

Suddenly your screens light up - a friendly signal is recognised. One of the servitors on deck sings out the observation:
>Praised be the Emperor, milord. We have detected Astartes site. Please direct your attention to quadrant Beta, sector 8E. Zooming in. Identification: Unknown Battle Barge.

Trianon decided to split his squadron and then hail the Astartes in sight. A message came back:
>Welcome to Tarantis, brothers. We are pleased to see you. We did not expect anyone from your Chapter to return back so soon. Please, you are invited to visit Tempestia Draconis, our Battle Barge. Storm Dragons wish to greet you.

What is your response? Will Trianon accept the invitation? How will he act and what is his mission here? (choose and roll d100)

Check out any authentication codes to make sure it checks out. Send a message back as we slowly point towards the battle barge.

"Ave Brother. Back you say? Our brothers visited you and departed?"

Gonna see what information we can glean before being in-range of them.

Also have Ghosts' Lance start conductive intensive scans of the system while Hunter Squadron Alpha moves slowly closer to the battle barge. Make sure the hunters are always abeam of the battle barge.

> My name is Dravion, I am the Chapter Master of the Storm Dragons. We have indeed received Astartes who bore the colours and name of the Ghosts of Retribution. They were very curious, but we shared with them what we could in exchange for the news from the Sector Deus. I believe that was less than three years ago, so I am surprised that another ship of yours has arrived so quickly. How else can we help you?
>>
>>3111043
Does Dravion check out as Chapter Master of the Storm Dragons on records?

"Thank you Lord Dravion. Do you know where our brothers were heading to when they departed this system?"

Are the scans revealing anything? I'm particularly interested in a real view of the battle barge from as far away as we can be. So we can look at its markings and design.

While your records are only superficial, it does appear as if there has been a Space Marine Chapter Master by this name for at least a century leading Storm Dragons.

>They inquired about many different things and among them they asked about the chapter known as Dark Hunters. We provided limited information we ourselves had and warned them - Dark Hunters are a strange and predatory Chapter, they're not very welcoming of guests. We did not know where is their Fortress Monastery, but during our travels we have found one of their listening stations in the Mahara Sector, almost beyond the edge of Imperium. Those are wild and dangerous reaches of space. However Damoklon, I believe that was his name, informed us that their navigator detected an unusually favourable warp current in that direction and decided to go for it. As I understand they wanted to visit Dark Hunters as quickly as possible, before returning. I am guessing that you have not heard from them? Well, but we talked long enough on the comms channel. Please, come and visit, I insist.

Please roll d100 for inspection.

Surely he would know that we can't stop for a visit while searching for lost brothers?
Does this invitation at such a time seem odd to our other marines on board?

Tempestia Draconis is clearly an ancient Battle Barge. Closer examination shows numerous reconstructed turrets and later additions of slightly different design on top of the old superstructure. From this a keen observer can make two educated guesses:
1) This ships has seen quite a lot of battles over the years
2) This Chapter cannot afford or for some other reasons will not restore ships fully, like GoR do - it seems that their repairs were done primarily 'in-house', possibly by some freelancer frontier techno-mages, but not by established AdMech shipyards.
3) Ship is on it's own, you can detect no escorts

No, it's GM falling asleep. Maybe that sake wasn't such a great idea. We might need to take a break today, however I want to run another session before Christmas on Monday and maybe another one on Friday.

Reposting for posterity:

1. Elegion's Return

2. We have quite a lot of HLoT favour now. What's the ship:favour exchange rate? For escorts and strike cruisers.

3.
>Iron Monks have recently invested a sizeable part of their liquid assets into acquiring three massive crusading ships. Not much is known about this without further investigation, but they won’t enter service earlier than in a few years, maybe later.
Has the Inquisition or Administratum said anything about this flagrant breach of the decree passive?

4.
====Vardan Purchase Proposals====
- Environmental Infrastructure I (if you approve of their rules) - 60w [PENDING – will check rules]
- Fund breeding incentive programs - What's the cost/benefit? [PENDING – please clarify, maybe we’ll sort it out once I am back]

For the second point, basically funding social programs that encourage families, discourage both parents working. We could take a page out of a....certain book and offer something like a large loan to every couple and they get 25% written off for every kid they have. For example.

Given the recent picts of the triachy encounters from Alexander Kerr, is there anything we didnt know before ingame, or can theorize we couldnt before, especially their relation to the ruinous powers.
Consult Engel on these images if we havent already
and regarding the fact that the triarchy fleet contained imperial icon vessels with traitor crews:
>Off to Hagen with all of this, ESPECIALLY THE FACT THEY USE IMPERIAL ICONOGRAPHY AND MAY BE CREWED BY TRAITORS

Regarding visiting the Battle Barge.

There must be some kind of Imperial protocol for two vessels of massively unbalanced power to meet peacefully?

Perhaps we maintain a large distance and parties from both vessels meet in the middle on lighters, out of range of the ships' guns. Then exchange greetings and assurances that they are allies? This way neither party can blow up the small vessel group on approach without killing their own.
>>
>>3117239
If our ships followed proper protocol upon transitioning sectors, we should both have valid IFF codes issued by the Sector and/or Segmentum Command.

Which is the kind of stuff that should be destroyed by dedicated persons should the ship be boarded and potentially lost.

You could always send a flight of lighters out from beyond weapons range, with your ships positioned to flee into the battle barge's aft for recovery.

Or stop being meta paranoid due to there being a bad roll

>Or stop being meta paranoid due to there being a bad roll
given we are out investigating a lost ship squadron and have a bad feeling regarding its whereabouts, i think in game light paranoia might be justified.
