the far future, biotechnology advances by leaps and bounds, creating stunning achievements in medical, civil, and military applications. Illness becomes a thing of the past, and genetic modification is as commonplace as cosmetic surgery.

However, like all great advances, unchecked progress and experimentation has led to abuse and corruption. Ultra powerful megacorporations that monopolized the latest biotech have risen to be the great powers of the age, waging secret wars of sabotage, espionage, and deceit to get ahead of each other.

In order to fuel their rampant growth, megacorps develop lethal diseases and viruses, horrific bio-organic abominations, and ever more exotic genetic modifications to both sell to the highest bidder and unleash upon each other.

The rampant proliferation of bioweapons, and the need to contain them, has given rise to a new profession, the BIOWEAPON HUNTER.

You are LEWIS, a Hunter specializing in hunting down biological threats with your T-Doll companion HK!

Currently, you were somewhat surreptitiously approaching Lucina, who was apparently also invited to this Umbrella hosted party. Currently, she didn't seem to be with anybody, just sort of wandering aimlessly through the crowd. Some well wishers would give her a casual greeting as they passed by, which she politely returned. Made sense, given her new position.

However, she quickly moves along and puts some distance between herself and the main crowd, which had mainly migrated to the dance floor, giving you the perfect opportunity to approach.

However, as you approach, you see Lucina put a hand to her mouth and her face scrunches up, a surefire sign that she was trying to hide laughter.

"Of course you'd show up dressed like a total dork, Lewis." She shakes her head as you reach her.

"What? I look totally stylish!' You say as you swish your cloak for additional effect.

"I do have to admit, you at least are not the most outrageously dressed person here." Lucina briefly gazes at a man who looked to be wearing a suit made completely out of gold foil and shudders. "But the mask is totally unnecessary."

"But it adds to my charm!" You retort.

"It makes you look like a creepy stalker." Lucina counters as she reaches over and pulls it off. "And you DO know whose company you're in, right?"

"You're certainly not dressed for it." You smirk, pointing to her white gown.

"It's for the event, okay?" Lucina's cheeks tinge pink a little. "Anyways, what are you doing here?"

"Guess I'm in the big leagues now. "You shrug.

"Huh." Lucina's eyes narrow. "Did Wesker or Vahlen get you in?"

"No idea." You shrug. "Does it matter?"

"It might." Lucina sighs and looks around at the other garishly dressed guests. "Is it bad that I'd rather be running security out front than being stuck in here?"

"Well, I heard Carol would be performing here soon." You respond.

"Oh, that's right!" Lucina nods. "I always did hear that she had a magnificent singing voice."

"Yeah, she briefly considered becoming a singer, but I guess she enjoyed modeling more." You shrug.

"Quite a shame." Lucina shakes her head.

And at that moment, the lights dim, the only illumination being a single shaft of light on the stage.

And there was Carol, standing on the stage, wearing a rather fashionable outfit that looked more at home on an idol stage than a fashion walkway. However, she still looked stunning, especially when wearing her "public" face, where she looked much more mature and developed. A far cry from the bubbly, childish little sister she was in private.

And without a word, Carol takes a breath and starts her song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehHJBD_giaI

And almost immediately, the entire hall seemed to be put into a trance at the sound of her voice. You and Lucina were no exception either. While you did hear Carol sing from time to time, it was usually a little lullaby to get you to sleep when you were little, or something she was humming when doing chores. You'd never actually gone out of your way to her an ACTUAL performance from her.

And Carol continues singing, her voice enthralling the audience like the sirens of old.

And you just continue to listen to the haunting alien melody Carol sings. You couldn't understand any of the words, but you felt almost... sad, as if the song had a sort of tragic tone to it. You could feel loneliness, isolation, a desire for companionship...

You start to wonder if Carol was just a very good performer, or if she was actually channeling something within herself in the song.

And finally, the song ends, and the hall lights up again just as the gathered crowd gives their applause, the sound of clapping and cheering filling the silent void in her song's absence.

"Thank you! Thank you!" Carol says happily, making a tiny curtsy. "I don't sing quite often, and I'm horribly out of practice, but I do hope you enjoyed the performance!"

"I am so jealous of her." Lucina sighs.

"What, you want an angelic singing voice, too?" You glance at her with a sly grin.

"It wouldn't hurt." Lucina mutters.

Carol then exits the stage, where she's immediately set upon by a mob of well wishers, fans, and agents. Meanwhile, the rest of the crowd begins to disperse and return to their previous activities.

You also notice Wesker in the crowd, still wearing those damn sunglasses indoors as he slowly weaves his way in your direction.

"Oh no, what does he want...?" Lucina groans. Looks like she caught sight of him, too.

"Ah, forget him." You shake your head. "What's he gonna do here? Glare at us with his indoor sunglasses?"

"I guess." Lucina smirks. "All right, let's go help out Carol then."

As the two of you make your way over, you notice Carols hasn't even moved an inch yet, still held up by the crowd around her. The calm smile on her face indicated she was well used to this sort of treatment, but you got the feeling that she'd rather not have to spend all night dealing with these people.

"Okay, so how do we handle this?" Lucina asks. "I'm ready to have a bit of fun tonight."

You just give the man a silent glare that only an overprotective brother could, glaring past his smug face and gaudy clothes and directly into the dark void that was his soul.

Or, something like that. You just looked scary enough that the man recoiled and practically fell on his ass, causing the rest of the crowd to instinctively back away.

And it's at that moment there's an opening. You grab Carol's hand and lead her through the gap in the crowd, making your escape.

"Hi Lewie, Hi Lucy!" Carol absolutely beams as you both lead her away and out into the relative safety of the garden courtyard. "I'm so glad you both came!"

"Well, I didn't really have any choice in the matter." Lucina mutters.

"Neither did I." You shrug.

"Still, it's great to see you together!" Carol giggles as she hugs the both of you. "And that dress is really turning out well for you!"

"Y-yeah. Thanks for letting me borrow it." Lucina stammers.

"Oh?" You grin as you turn your gaze to Lucina. "You actually had to ask someone else for help?"

"I'm not exactly a fashionista." Lucina huffs. "And I'm absolutely certain your getup was Carol's doing, too."

"Guilty!" Carol giggles.

"Ah, Lewis, Carol, Lucina. It's quite fortunate to meet you all here."

You freeze when you hear Wesker's smug ass voice and you look over to see him standing there, with his sunglasses despite it being night. He still had that smug air about him, but was at least keeping a respectful distance from you.

"What do you want, Wesker?" You glower.

"I simply had some... business with our new Chief of police." Wesker nods to Lucina. "Of course, you need not be concerned about it."

"Just go." Lucina motions for you to leave. "I can handle this."

Meanwhile, you could see Carol just glaring at Wesker. Something about him was setting her instincts off and... that wasn't good, considering what Carol was capable of.

"Carol, come on." You take her hand and start leading her away again. You were genuinely afraid that she might start something with Wesker and you couldn't afford that. Besides, it's not like Lucina didn't have experience dealing with the man.

"Well then." Wesker turns his attention back to Lucina. "About that business..."

You lose track of Wesker's words as you and Carol exit earshot range.

"Jeez, Carol, what was that about?" You whisper to her once you figure you're a safe enough distance away. "You looked like you were about to maul the guy!"

"There's something WRONG about him." Carol mutters, now calming down. "I don't know what he put in but... it doesn't feel right. Not natural."

Kind of an ironic choice of words, coming from Carol, but you don't make a fuss about it.

"The guy's probably got a ton of off the market biomods or something. You explain. "I wouldn't be surprised if he's not exactly what he appears to be."

"Yeah, but still..." Carol frowns. "There's something off about him, and... and I really want to find out why!"

"And Mom would kill me." Carol sighs. "Like, ACTUALLY kill me. Eating people is a big no no. Even the bad ones."

And when you reach the banquet hall bar, you immediately see Hank and... well, he surprisingly still conscious and rather lucid, taking advantage of the free booze and he continues to chug down more and more alcohol. You're quite glad the bartender is a Doll, though, since she seems to have infinite patience with Hank's drunken blabbering where any human would have thrown his drunken ass out the door long ago.

Still, this did mean he was at least somewhat aware of his surroundings, even if more than a bit impaired.

"Hey, Hank, still conscious, I see." You observe.

"Yeah, well, either I'm just getting more accustomed to this stuff, or the barkeep here's secretly watering down my drinks." Hank grunts.

"That goes against my programming." The Doll bartender replies curtly. "My sensors do indicate a significantly increased blood alcohol level, though."

"Yeah, tell that to someone who cares." Hank grunts as he finishes off his current glass. "Another!"

The Doll bartender simply nods and walks over to retrieve a new bottle.

"So, whatchoo been up to so far, Lewis?" Hank slurs. "Been making any moves on any of the ladies here?"

"Well, not exactly." You shrug. "I did come across Lucina, though."

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaah." Hank nods. "She's off duty right now, right?'

"I don't think she's ever off duty." You shrug.

Hm, now that you got a closer look at him, he definitely wasn't too well aware of his surroundings at the moment. A perfect time for Carol to sneak up on him. She could attack him from behind to get a proper jump scare out of him, but given his current state of inebriation, he might not even remember it in the morning.

Maybe something to show him once he sobers up...

You quietly wave for Carol to come over and then motion for her to stop just behind Hank.

"The hell are you doing with your hands?" Hank grumbles.

"Oh, you know, just warding people away from your public drunkenness." You remark. "Don't want you barfing or punching someone important, you know?"

"Gee, thanks for having sho little faith in my ability to hold liquor." Hank gripes, his body swaying a bit now.

"Your drink, sir." The Doll bartender says calmly as she slides as she sets a fresh glass on the bar.

"Oh, thanks!' Hank smiles as he turns away briefly.

In that moment of distraction, you pull out your phone and point to Hank, and Carol immediately understands, positioning herself just behind and to the side of Hank, a big smile on her face. You manage to snap the picture just as Hank turns back to face you.

"Huh? What was that?" Hank mutters.

"Ah, just checking some of my messages." You say, pretending to fumble with your phone.

"Man, you should just turn that shit off. Now ain't the time to be texting." Hank shakes his head.

Behind him, Caro put's her hands over her mouth to muffle her laughter.

"Heh, well, hang in there, Hank. I'm sure something interesting will eventually happen tonight." You chuckle as you get up and pat him on the shoulder.

"Oh, what? You're just gonna up and leave without a drink with your dear old partner?" Hank grunts. "C'mon, just one for old time's sake! What do ya say?"

"Haha! I knew you'd come around!" Hank pats you on the shoulder and snaps his fingers. "Barkeep! Another one! And make it strong!"

The Doll bartender silently nods and pours a glass for you.

Carol meanwhile watches from behind Hank, your partner still completely oblivious to her presence.

Readying yourself, you take the glass and down it in a few gulps, the alcohol burning its way down your throat. Thankfully though, when the rush hits your brain, it isn't as bad as you had initially feared, and you manage to stay lucid and clearheaded. Well, relatively.

And that's when you see Lucina again. She quickly shuffles over to you, the look on her face not very encouraging.

It was her "all business" expression, the type she always wore when working.

Such as, well, arresting you.

"Whoa, officer, it was just one drink." You raise your hands in mock surrender.

"Lucy, is something wrong?" Carol asks.

"Oh shit, the laaaaaaaaw." Hank slurs, trying to snap to attention but failing utterly.

"Sorry, Lewis, but I need a word with you in private." Lucina mutters to you.

"What-" You blink.

"Now." Lucina steps forward to grasp your wrist to pull you off your seat.

And that's when your let brushes against hers, and you feel the thigh holster hidden beneath her dress. You knew for a fact that wasn't there before.

"What's going on?" You ask, your mind immediately snapping back to sobriety.

"Like I said, I'll explain, but it needs to be private." Lucina's eyes dart to Carol and Hank briefly. "Just follow me..."

You knew this had to have something to do with Wesker and whatever he said to her earlier.

But what could it possibly be about...?

"All right, let's go." You nod and turn to Carol. "Sorry Carol, got some things to take care of with Lucina. You think you can handle things on your own!"

"Oh, don't worry about me, Lewie!" Carol smiles, her teeth briefly turning into fangs. "Of course I can handle myself!"

Right, why'd you even ask that question?

You follow Lucina to a quieter corner of the banquet hall, well away from the refreshment table and bar so there wouldn't be any reason to linger here. Lucina's eyes dart about to make sure you both are well and truly alone before leaning in.

"I received a tip from Wesker that the mansion's security was breached half an hour ago." Lucina whispers. "Apparently there's an uninvited guest somewhere in the building."

"What?" You blink. "Can we trust Wesker on this?"

"No." Lucina admits. "But he provided convincing evidence."

Lucina then pulls out a small tablet, the screen indicating it was tied into the mansion's security system. There was a blinking red dot at the rear of the mansion.

"Wesker's been promoted to the head of "Internal Operations", which means he's basically just a glorified security guard, so a breach like this would reflect badly on him." Lucina continues.

"So? Why not just let some egg get thrown in his face?" You wonder.

"Because my own men are running perimeter security for the event." Lucina explains, and you suddenly remember the STARS members at the front entrance. "If anything happens, the department has just as much to lose as Wesker does."

"It's almost as if he planned it that way." You grumble.

"Well it's too late to wonder about that." Lucina grimaces as she hands you a carefully wrapped satchel.

The moment you take the satchel, you immediately recognize it as your personal sidearm that you had turned in at the security checkpoint.

"This has to be done quickly and QUIETLY." Lucina hisses. "If you want to tag along, consider yourself deputized. Otherwise, forget we ever had this conversation."

"Of course I'm with you." You say as you take the satchel. Lucina was foresighted enough to give you a chest holster, so you could stow your sidearm underneath your jacket. "So what's our move?"

"Well, other than the perimeter alarm, none of the other mansion security measures are activating." Lucina mumbles. "Which means that the intruder either has a way to evade detection, or there's an insider assisting them. Wesker's already in the main security room to check it out."

"All right, so where's the entry point?" You ask as you inspect the map.

"In the library." Lucina explains. "Makes sense. It would be quite and unpopulated."

"And the objective?" You wonder.

"The most likely motive is either espionage or assassination, very likely against Mr. Spencer himself." Lucina frowns. "The library is near his personal quarters, but there's no guarantee they won't try to infiltrate the party to search for him."

"Damn, that's a lot of ground to cover." You grimace. "Can't we have backup on this?"

"I can't bring any of the STARS team in. They're already patrolling the perimeter and they'll draw attention if they're seen wandering the mansion." Lucina shakes he head. "And remember, we need to keep this quiet. Adding more people to the operation introduces more risk this whole thing can be blown open."

"I think HK should at least be able to help." You say. "ST-AR's stuck outside too, right?"

"Yeah." Lucina nods. "I think we can do with a third."

"Okay, let's go. I'll call her to meet up with us."

As the two of you proceed through the main hall to the rear area of the mansion, you quickly take out your phone and call up HK. She promptly answers your summon, switching off with Carol so she can come meet you at a set of sealed doors, a pair of suited Tyrants standing guard at either side like statutes.

"All right, once we're past here, we'll be in the section of the mansion off limits to the public." Lucina warns. "We won't be able to move freely in between the public and nonpublic sections, so if anybody's going to stay behind to sweep the party, it has to be now.

"I'll stay behind." You say. "You and HK can move on and investigate the breach. I'll make sure whoever it is doesn't cause a ruckus at the party."

"All right." Lucina nods and hands you a small badge. "This will make it so the mansion security doesn't flag you as a threat. You won't be able to control or direct it, but it at least won't cause problems for you."

"Got it." You nod as you to take the badge. "Anything else I need to know?"

"We have no idea on the nature of the intruder." Lucina shakes her head. "But we can assume it's got biomods highly specialized in infiltration, so look for unsealed openings or anybody who seems to be acting strangely. That's all I can say. The rest is up to you."

"All right." You nod. "Good luck."

Lucina smiles and nods and heads for the double doors. She waves at the camera mounted above it, and the heavy oak doors swing open. Lucina and HK walk through and the doors close behind them.

So, that left you on your own.

As you wade through the gathered partygoers, it's your biosensor that tips you off to something amiss. You turn your head to see what looked to be a lithe young woman with long, flowing blonde hair and a loose white gown calmly walking through the main hall, effortlessly weaving her way through the crowd. However, it wasn't your eyes that warned you that something was off about her.

But your biosensor.

Instead of a singular EM signature most living beings generated, the woman was giving off multiple readings. Not just one or two, or even a few dozen, but HUNDREDS.

It was as if she was just an amalgamation of multiple living organisms.

You couldn't even begin to explain it, but you were absolutely certain this was the intruder in question.

However, the intruder was already making a beeline for the stairs, which led up to the private meeting rooms the high level execs were gathered at.

"Lucina." You whisper in your phone. "I think I got an ID on our intruder. How are things on your end?"

"We've reached the breach point, but HK's sensors are picking up trails going all over the place. We might be dealing with multiple intruders." Lucina responds. "We're doing a comprehensive sweep, but we can link up with you if you need back up."

You quickly swipe a glass of wine from a Doll server as you pass by here and quickly hustle up the stairs after the intruder. You quickly catch up to her near the top of the stairs, where you enact your plan.

"Oh shit!" You grunt as you "trip" on the top stair and spill your win all over the intruder's dress.

The intruder pauses, looks at her now stained dress, and then turns to glare at you.

"I am so sorry." You sputter. "I'll help you clean it up-"

"It's fine." The intruder grunts. "I'll simply go wash up."

And thankfully, the intruder heads towards the bathroom, which was thankfully in the opposite direction of the meeting rooms. That should buy you a minute or two.

The intruder disappears from sight just as Lucina arrives, slightly out of breath.

Lucina moves forward and kicks the door in while you rush in, handgun drawn, putting the intruder right in your sights.

"Don't move!" You growl as Lucina shuts the door behind to prevent anyone from walking in.

"I see." The intruder says simply as she glances at you and Lucina as she raises her arms.

"All right, let me call this in-" Lucina reaches for her radio.

And then the intruder explodes.

Well, not so much as explode than simply come apart, and now you see it. As you suspected, the intruder was an amalgam of smaller creatures. Horrid, leech-like bugs that spray out in all directions. Lucina shrieks as she instinctively backs away for the disgusting sight.

And by some stroke of luck, you manage to scoop up the entire swarm of leeches within your cloak, with you barely being able to wrap it closed. The leeches continue to swarm and wriggle within the closed cloak though, trying to find a way to escape.

"Ugh, that's freaking disgusting." Lucina gasps, obviously trying to keep her stomach in check. "What kind of sick freak would make something like that."

"Dunno, but what do we do with it?" You ask cautiously, looking at the squirming package with concern.

"Personally, I'd just smash that thing to mush while we've got it scoped up." Lucina grimaces. "Then again, we could always win brownie points with Umbrella if we can bring it in intact."

Without saying a further word, you simply stomp your foot down on the cloak, crush the leeches within. There's a screeching sound from the leeches and thick goopy pus begins to leak out, but you keep stomping until the squirming stops.

Too bad your cloak was utterly ruined now.

"I suppose that's one way to handle it." Lucina sighs. "I suppose I'll call in Wesker to clean this up."

"Yeah, you do that." You say as you take out your own phone and quickly dial up Nemo's number.

"Yeah?" Nemo asks as she picks up.

"Nemo, I need you and Artya to head up the second floor bathroom." You whisper. "Me and Lucina took out some kind of leech BOW, and I was wondering if you and Artya could nab some samples."

"Excellent, something interesting to do." Nemo responds. "All right, we're heading over right now."

"All right, Wesker's on his way to clean this up." Lucina sighs. "Honestly, not what I was thinking would happen when I came out tonight."

Before you can respond, there's a light knock on the door.

"Heeeeeey, Lewis. Open up." Nemo's muffled voice says from the other side.

"Nemo...?" Lucina pauses.

"Oh..., hey Lucy." Nemo pauses as she opens the door.

Artya meanwhile just trots in, not even phased by Lucina's presence as she spots what remained of the leech monster and knelt down to scoop up some samples.

"Guess I shouldn't be surprised to see you here." Nemo mumbles. "

"Ah, it seems like the whole party is here." Wesker notes as he smugly walks in. "It looks like you enlisted some outside help, Lucina."

"The job was done and done quietly like you asked." Lucina growls.

"Yes, and I should commend you all for that." Wesker chuckles. "Though with the threat over, I must advise you all to leave the rest to me. Oh, and I don't need to remind you to not mention anything that occurred here to the general public, yes?"

"You don't have to tell me twice." You grunt as you shove past Wesker. "You should learn to clean up your own messes."

"Now now, don't be so confrontational." Wesker chuckles darkly. "It's always good to earn a favor from an Umbrella executive, is it not?'

You just ignore him and exit the bathroom, returning the second floor of the entrance hall with Lucina, Nemo, and Artya.

"So..." Lucina mumbles awkwardly to Nemo.

"So..." Nemo mumbles awkwardly back.

OH MY GOD THIS IS SO CUTE. Artya types out on her tablet and shows only to you.

"I know, right?" You chuckle to Artya.

"You're still uh... tall." Nemo compliments weakly. "And... absolutely perfect in every way, like you were designed."

"C-come on, Nemo, don't say that!" Lucina stammers. "I'm nowhere near as smart as you!"

Both the sisters start sweating profusely, totally unsure of how to treat the other.

FREAKING ADORABLE. Artya muses.

"I... need a drink." Nemo huffs, somehow having flustered herself as she quickly shuffles down the stairs towards. the bar.

"You know what.... that's not a bad idea." Lucina agrees, following her sister.

OH JEEZ, THIS I HAVE TO SEE. Artya gleefully types before skipping along after them.

You're about to move on, too, when you're interrupted by the arrival of HK.

"Whoa, HK, I didn't see you there!" You blink in surprise.

"My apologies. I will try to be less stealthy next time." HK responds. "I am just reporting that my patrol is complete. I managed to track and neutralize the infiltrating BOW."

"You what?" You blink. "But me and Lucina eliminated it just now.

"A distraction, I assume." HK stares at you. "I encountered a small, leech-like creature attempting to smuggle this item out of the mansion."

HK then takes out a small, nondescript looking data drive.

"i am unsure of the protocol for handling sensitive property such as this." HK says. "Please advise."

"I'll hold onto it." You say as you hold out your hand.

"Understood." HK nods as she turns over the data drive to you.

"Hey, what are you two doing here?"

Both you and HK turn to see the Boss trotting up, apparently in a very good mood. You could only assume her socializing with the bigwigs went pretty well.

"Boss?" You blink.

"They're wheeling out the cake! This is a birthday party after all, you know?" Come on!"

The Boss grabs you by the arm and drags you back to the main hall, with HK following loyally.

And in the main hall, you could see a massive cake has been set up on the stage, easily the size of a small car. Tyrants and Dolls line the stage, surrounding a small, frail old man in a wheelchair. You could only assume that it was Oswell Spencer himself, being kept alive by the very technology his company had perfected.

And then the crowd begins to sing.

"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you..."

Well, you suppose after tonight's events, some cake is about as good a reward as any...

About five and half feet tall, with creamy texture and firm, rounded base supported by elegant alabaster pillars with geometry that seems to defy laws of physics, as does the milky top swinging majestically on top of a slim midsection. Considering that everyone in the childhood friend group has a secret or two, I wouldn't be surprised if their minds are used to these surprises.

We have Carol the invader-human hybrid, Lewis the magical boy-invader, Lucina the genetically modified peak human, and Nemo the normal suoer genius.

I think the real depressing thing is that Carol knows that Alice won't be around forever, and even Lewis (who could maybe live longer than most due to his genetic makeup) is going to be gone at some point.

Even if Carol decides to promote herself to Hive Queen, she'd potentially outlive her own children.
