*Water. Earth. Fire. Air. For thousands of years, the four nations have lived in relative harmony.Long ago, the Fire Nation attacked the Earth Kingdom, seeking land to support their growing population. Though the Earth Kingdom fought the Fire Nation to a standstill, they were unable to support vast portions of their coastline from being conquered.Usually the Avatar, master of all four elements, would negotiate peace. But when the world needed him, he vanished. Without him, the invasion stalled into an endless war of attrition that has continued for 100 years.*You are Sokka, son of Hadoka, Chief of the Bear-Dog tribe (greatest of all the Southern Water Tribes). As the presumptive heir to the title, you decided to travel abroad to gather wisdom from other lands. Your journey took you to Ba Sing Se, where you ran afoul of the Dai Li. With the help of Lord Beifong, you overthrew Long Feng and restored “peace” to the Earth Kingdom. Now you sail home, accompanied by Toph Beifong and Suki of Kyoshi island.Last thread: >>3119583Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Sokka+QuestRewards:**Boomerang Proficiency:** +5 to crit success range on any roll materially involving a boomerang.**Hero of the Revolution:** +10 to any social roll made to manipulate a member of the Earth Kingdom.**You Fought the Law:** The Dai Li remnants are seeking revenge!**Auto-succeeds:** (1) Social, (1) Combat, (1) Misc. Dad,I’m not good at this stuff, so let’s just get the big stuff out of the way. I’m not the helpless little girl you think I am. I can earthbend. Not just the basic forms and breathing exercises either. By sensing vibrations in the ground, I can see as well as you can. Better, actually. If you don’t believe me, ask Shin and Hun. I hope I didn’t hurt them too bad, but they weren’t letting me leave the compound. Go easy on them too. They already had their clocks cleaned by a little girl. I’m leaving Ba Sing Se with Sokka. I know you’re probably already putting together a team to drag me home, but I hope you don’t. I’ll send them back with their tails between their legs. I can’t stay in the city anymore. I hated it even before everything happened, and I want to go out and explore. To see the rest of the world. Well, you know what I mean. I’m not telling you everything, but that’s only because I know we’re gonna see each other again. Maybe after you’ve dealt with the entire Earth Kingdom, one rebellious kid won’t seem so bad by comparison. I love you dad,TophThe Shanty is the ship that’s tasked with taking you back to the Southern Water Tribe. She’s a mid-sized craft, crewed by seasoned Earth Kingdom sailors. They’re no Southern Raiders, but they seem to know their way around the ship well enough, and the trip from Ba Sing Se to the ocean passes quickly and without incident. Well…not totally without incident. Though the weather is clear, and you don’t run into any pirates, you can’t help but notice that your two lady guests seem to have divided the ship between them. It’s not a hard line, not exactly, but Toph never strays far from the aft of the ship, and Suki never far from the bow. It’s a little annoying – since you’ve been sailing since practically before you could walk, you’re often needed at different parts of the ship. And while you like talking to Suki and Toph, you often find your conversations cut short when you’re suddenly needed away from their assigned section of the ship. By the time you reach the sea, you’re about ready to grab them by the shoulders and shout incoherently at them until they come to a more convenient arrangement. >Talk to Toph about it>Talk to Suki about it>Leave it alone>Grab them by the shoulders and shout incoherently at them until they come to a more convenient agreement

Hard turn starboard on my mark! You, you and you, get to the riggings! Hurlers, take positions! You, take Toph below decks and make sure she’s safe!”“Seriously?” Toph shouts. “How many times do I have to run away from my dad?” She hurls a chunk of wood in your direction, but it sails uselessly over your head. A beat. “Did I hit him?” Toph asks.“Almost.” “So close.”“I think you might’ve grazed him a little bit.”Toph groans. “Fine, I’ll go below deck!” You can hear her cursing about wood and ships long after she disappears down the stairs. “Suki, I’m going to need you to have my back on this one,” you call out, keeping the other ship in your sighs. “Starboard turn! Now!”“I…yeah. I got your back,” Suki says, holding onto the side of the ship as it cuts a hard turn to the right. “Of course.”“Good. Everyone get ready! Hurlers, prepare to intercept!” Several earthbenders line up on the side of the ship, steadying the boulders you keep to serve as ranged weapons or rudimentary defenses. Just in time too, as the pirates launch a barrage of stones – your hurlers intercept their missiles with boulders, leaving you free to close the gap with the pirate ship. “Everyone to positions!” You roar as the ship comes closer. You drum your itching fingers against the hilt of your boomerangs, the sound of boulders clashing overhead, and then suddenly the ships collide with a bone-rattling thud. The pirates are on you in moments. They swing from the riggings to land in the middle of your deck, wielding exotic weapons and smiling toothless grins. Your crew, to their credit, responds in kind, roaring defiance and throwing themselves into the battle. You spin and weave through the chaos. One pirate swings tow nunchucks your way, but you block his blow and catch him in the jaw with a spinning kick. Another charges you with a podao, jabbing at you with the wickedly sharp point to keep you at distance. Every time you try to prepare a throw he gets close, cutting off your momentum, until Suki tackles him from behind and draws several long cuts across his back with the bladed fan she wields in either hand. >cont.
>>3130997You don’t even have time to thank her before a pirate falls on you, his spike chain drawing dizzying patterns in the air around you. You flip backwards and throw your boomerang midair, catching him in the chin, but your landing is thrown off by a sudden rock of the boat and you stumble. Luckily you manage to turn that stumble into a roll, avoiding the knives of another pirate, and catch him across the chest with the bladed edge of your boomerang. Then you’re face to face with an older pirate in a wide brimmed hat, his long grey hair flapping in the wind. He wields a jian with surprising skill, forcing you back step by step, but ultimately he’s old and careful, and you’re young and fierce. You step inside his swing and hit him with your shoulder, sending him sprawling, then fall atop him with your boomerang raised. “Stop! Stop!” The pirate shouts. “I yield!”Immediately, the rest of the crew holds up their hands and drops to their knees, defeated. All across the deck of the ship, the sounds of battle cease – except for one corner, where Suki is still wailing on a pirate with her fists. Each blow sends blood flying, but though the pirate has long since stopped any resistance Suki keeps going, pounding his face into the deck, an inhuman snarl frozen across her face –“Suki!” You grab her wrist, and she freezes solid. She looks down at the nightmare of broken bone and twisted flesh that is her opponent’s face and bloody hands fly to her mouth in a vain attempt to stop her from retching. You want to make sure she’s alright, but there are more pressing matters at the moment. Instead you assign a crewmember to monitor her, and turn your attention to the defeated captain and his crew. Now that you can get a good look at it, you can see the pirate vessel is a bit of a mess. The sails are recently patched, the hull scorched and blackened. The crew bears a variety of injuries that you’re almost positive your men didn’t give them. You zero in on the scorches. There’s only one force in the world that can cause damage like that, and they’re not anyone you want to run into while sailing under Earth Kingdom colors. “You’ve been fighting with Fire Nation Navy.”It shouldn’t be possible. The Fire Nation should be confined to the Earth Kingdom’s West Coast, and you’re on the other side of the continent. For Fire Nation to be on this side of the world, there’s been a major shift in relations while you’ve been away. But the captain doesn’t deny it. “Aye, we have,” he growls. “That ain’t the worst of it though.”>“I’ll be the judge of that. What’s the Fire Nation doing here?”>“What’s the worst of it then?”

>“What’s the worst of it then?”
>>3130998“Really. So the worst of it is…”“Black Belle,” the captain says. “She was the one who drew the Fire Navy down on us. They can’t let her get away with that ship.”“Ship?”“She calls it the Pirate Black, but it’s the FNS Iroh. Ironclad. Now she’s got some captain chasing her around, burning any free ship he sees!”You shrug. “I have to admit that I’m finding it hard to muster up any sympathy for pirates.”The captain laughs. “That’s what the all say, aye, from the north pole to the south. About time someone hit the pirates, yeah? Scourge of the seas, yeah?” He sounds bitter about it, but it’s true. Not far south of you are the Thousand Peaks, a collection of small islands clustered in a relatively tight area. The surplus of coves and shorelines to hide amongst has made the area a pirate hotbed, and threatens any sea voyage in the area. Even the ship that carried you to Ba Sing Se, crewed entirely by Southern Raiders, had been forced to swing wide around the Peaks. Though you’re not thrilled by the presence of Fire Navy so far west, you can’t really see a downside to making the area a little safer. “You’re thinking too small,” the captain says, “just like the Fire Navy. Belle’s already stolen one ironclad, you see? She ain’t scared of retaliation. But we are.”“We?”“Free men. Pirates! Fire Navy on the warpath, the captains get scared. So they do what anyone does when faced with an existential threat.”“They rally,” you realize. “Under one banner.”“Black Belle’s banner,” the captain says, smiling a wicked smile. “She’s the cause, sure, but she’s the only one who can stand up to them. You know how many ships are hiding in the Peaks?”“Enough to rival our navy in size,” you mutter. “So Black Belle’s not just a pirate, she’s a pirate queen.”“Will be, soon enough,” the captain confirms. “More flock to her every day, and the ones that don’t,” he gestures at his own crew, “are dying.”“We can’t let them solidify,” Suki says from behind you. You turn to see her walking towards you, white faced by steady. “A fleet that big would devastate everything in its path, Kyoshi Island included.”“Agreed. This is…kind of a big problem.”“Will the Southern Water Tribe help us?”You rub your chin. “They would, if we could reach them…but it’s a long way to South Pole, and then we’d have to come all the way back. I don’t think they’d get here in time.”“And the Earth Kingdom Navy is tied up on the other end of the continent,” Suki says. “Or are busy putting down Lords that aren’t complying with the new regime. So it’s…”“Up to us, I guess,” you finish, staring out over the ocean. The Thousand Peaks are there, just beyond the horizon – a den of outlaws and thieves, terrorized by a Fire Navy flotilla and a would-be queen. >Sail to the Thousand Peaks>Fuck that, go home

>>3131317The Thousand Peaks are beautiful, in their own way. When you were a child, your grandmother had told you the story of the Valley King, a powerful king who had lived thousands of years ago. He had carved out a vast kingdom in the shadow of the thousand mountains, and had grown rich and fat and arrogant. So mighty was his empire that he began to hold himself as equal to the spirits themselves. In particular he mocked the Moon and the Ocean, for he was man of solid land and saw little value in those spirits. So prideful did the Valley King grow that the Moon and Ocean could brook his arrogance no longer. They called the power of the tides and flooded the Valley King’s land, condemning him and all his people to a death beneath the great waves. When they were done, only the peaks of the thousand mountains remained – hence, the Thousand Peaks. Were you a more superstitious sort, you might be concerned of the ghosts of the drowned rising from their watery grave – but you feel like you might have enough on your plate already without adding an army of specters. “Are we there yet?” Toph asks, not for the first time. Sailing has not been kind to her, and she’s eager to make landfall.“Smoke to the southeast, Chief,” a sailor tells you, pressing a spyglass into your hands.>cont.
>>3131424You check the horizon and confirm the smoke with your own eyes – a lot of it, too much for a single ship. “That would be the Fire Navy flotilla,” you say. “No wonder they’re having trouble rooting the pirates out, we can literally see them coming from miles away.”“Aye, they’re playing right into Black Belle’s hands,” Captian Hai says. He’s chained to the side of the ship, but since he’s the only one with experience in the Peaks you’ve decided to keep him close. “She boxes in the remaining Free men so they can’t run. Their only options are to join, or be caught and burned.” He spits into the ocean.“Should we move to avoid them, Chief?” A sailor asks. “We’re not flying the skull and crossbones, but I don’t imagine the Fire Nation would take too kindly to us either way.”You glance over at Captain Hai. “Do you know anything about the leader of the flotilla?”“Just that he’s an ambitious Captain named Zhao. Has a penchant for overwhelming force.”“We could fly the white and parley,” you muse, rubbing your chin. “I doubt even the Fire Nation would attack a surrendering vessel.”“Unless the pirates have been using the white to get close,” Suki points out. “Shit, yeah, that could be a problem.” You sigh. “Hai, if we swing west, what are we going to find?”Hai laughs. “Probably the Black Bitch herself,” he says. “She’s set up camp thereabouts. If you can slip past her scouts, I can guide you further south. Long Kai and his boys are the strongest of the remaining Free men in the Peaks.”You’ve heard of Long Kai – the Iron Kaiju, he prefers to be called. A more bloodthirsty and ornery man has never sailed the seas, they say, but he’s been a big name for over a decade now. If there’s anyone who could stand up to Black Belle, it’s the Iron Kaiju. >Parley with the Fire Navy Flotilla>Parley with Black Belle>Sneak past Black Belle, parley with the Iron Kaiju (Misc. >>3131425To meet with the Iron Kaiju, you’ll have to sail right through territory controlled by Black Belle. But blockade running is a skill all young raiders are taught, vital for survival on the sea, and it’s something you have no small amount of practice at. Of course, you never practiced while facing down enemies who would gladly kill you if you were caught, but there’s a first time for everything. You cut as close to the islands as you dare, taking Hai’s advice on how best to avoid the reefs, and keep up a near constant stream of prayer to the Ocean spirit to bless your passage. When you see the massive sails of a Ship of the Line poking out from above the treetops, you’re forced to bank hard to escape before they can sight you. It’s a very narrow thing, but the winds are in your favor, and you make it behind the neighboring island just before the ship pulls out into view. From there, Hai is able to guide you to a cove hidden amongst a dense thicket of islands, where three large ships are anchored. Each bears the same jolly roger – a skull surrounded by waving tentacles – and each bears the mark of recent battle. Hard, lean men and women watch you with narrowed eyes as you dock, but none makes a move to harm you.Toph is the first off the ship, and she falls immediately to press her body against the sand of the beach. “Earth!” She shouts happily, digging her fingers and toes into the sand. “I’ve never been so happy to see anything this fuzzy!”She picks herself up quickly enough though, pointing to an approaching coterie of pirates and scoundrels. At their head is a white bearded man in slate grey mail – the Iron Kaiju himself. He holds an axe as tall as he is with an easy, predatory grace. “You aren’t Black Belle!” He calls, stopping well short of you, as men and women press towards you from ever side. “Nor one of her dog-lords, not that I recognize! I’m going to assume, for your sake, that it’s the latter.” He slams the butt of his axe into the ground – beside you, Toph flinches. “Why are you here, boy?”Emboldened by your first lie, you take a step forward. “What can I say? I was a southern raider, as you can probably guess from the clothes. I did my share of raiding and pillaging, and good times were had by all...well, all aboard my ship, at least.” You sling an arm around the shoulder of a nearby pirate and laugh, and the Kaiju’s crew laughs with you. “Yeah, that was the life,” you say. “But then this new Queen, this, Black Belle, she says all the pirates are bowing to her, or they die. Now, I consider myself a Free man of the ocean, you see, so I tell her that Guybrush Threepwood bows to no-one and nothing, not even to a spectacular pair of tits.”At this, even the Kaiju cracks a smile. “Let me guess what she said to that.”“Well, you could guess and you’d probably be right. Black Belle tries her best to kill me, but I don’t die easy, no sir, not Guybrush Threepwood. I claw my way back to land and what do I hear? That none other than the living legend, the whirling dervish, the Iron Kaiju himself is taking a stand against the Black Bitch. I think to myself well Guybrush, that sounds like an opportunity, and so I sailed straight here. Black Belle has grand designs, but I’m pretty attached the status quo, and between you and me, I’m not half bad at killing would-be-monarchs.” You spread your arms wide. “So what do you say?”>cont.
>>3131679The Iron Kaiju laughs. “I say I like you, Guytree.”“Guybrush.”“There’s a bit of snag in your plan though,” The Kaiju says. He motions for you to follow him, leading you up the beach and into a driftwood hut decorated with rich silks and fine jewelry. “And it’s that Belle has twenty times the firepower we do – and she’s got an ironclad. Me and my boys learned the hard way that you can’t trade blows with those things, and she’s too clever to let us get in close.”You take the offered seat and prop your feet up on the desk in front of you. “You strike me as the kind of guy who has a plan, though.”“You’d be right about that,” the Kaiju says, smiling fiercely. “And I’ve got just the man to pull it off too. It seems to me, if you can’t beat it, rip it off.” He unfurls a detailed map of the Thousand Peaks and points towards a section to the North. “The Fire Navy has a flotilla here, commanded by a whelp named Zhao. He’s an ass of the highest order, but he has half a dozen Ironclad frigates sailing with him. We get our hands on one, and we can take the Bitch head on.”You rub your chin. “A sound plan, but risky. I pity the man you’ve lined up to steal an Ironclad.”“Ah, but self-pity is vilest of sins, Gruybush!”You’re too busy swallowing to correct him. “This is what I need,” The Kaiju says, his face just inches from yours. “You talk big game, boy, but you come to me with a single ship and a crew full of little girls. I need something I can use. I need an ironclad.” He claps you on the shoulder. “Get me one, and not only will I kill the Black Bitch, I’ll make you richer than you could ever dream.”Your crew is waiting for you when you get back to the beach. “First of all, I can’t believe that bought that ostrich horse crap,” Toph says. “Your heart was going like a wardrum that whole speech? Is everyone on this island deaf?”“Are we in the clear?” Suki asks. “You’re still alive, so he must have some use for you.”“He wants us to capture him an ironclad,” you say, shaking your head. Suki’s eyes go wide. “How are we going to do that?”“I don’t know exactly,” you admit. “But that’s never stopped me before. Okay, so, plan. We've got Iron Kaiju who will punch Black Belle if we give him an Ironclad. We can PROBABLY talk Zhao into giving us an Ironclad that will collapse with some precision firebending, on the pretense that while the two pirate groups are fighting he can come in and sweep up the lot. Then we go to Black Belle and warn her of both the incoming attack and of Zhao who will use Iron Kaiju as a distraction, so that she is prepared to go full defense and make the Fire Navy pay for every ship they take.In the middle of the ensuing chaos, we will go in and remove each of the leaders, killing off Kaiju, Belle, and Zhao, leaving the three groups bloodied and leaderless, scattering them from the Southern Seas.

>>3131683Luckily, Captain Zhao isn’t hard to find. The smoke that his ships are throwing up serves as a marker, allowing you to head straight from the Kaiju’s base to his location.Upon seeing the flotilla, you understand why Zhao considers the smoke worth it. The ironclads are unbelievably fast and don’t need wind, allowing them unparalleled maneuverability. If Belle is keeping ahead of them, it must be by the skin of her teeth. And if what the Kaiju said about fighting ironclads is true, the ships Zhao has must be equal to three times their number in battle. Still, Black Belle has stolen one ironclad already – and the Peaks’ geography, with an island around ever corner, is uniquely suited to taking down ironclads. The many twists and turns mean the armored ships aren’t able to build up enough steam to leverage their speed, and there’s plenty of places for pirates to hide and get in close, negating the ironclad’s defenses. Zhao might think he’s invincible, but his position is fairly tenuous.Though you can’t know if Zhao will honor the white, you sail it anyway. Upon sighting you, the flotilla turns hard, and soon you’re completely surrounded by large, imposing metal ships. “I’m getting kind of sick of being surrounded,” Suki murmurs, eyes darting back and forth. “We’re surrounded again?” Toph asks. “Already? Why is surrounding ourselves with enemies always the plan?”“I’m glad you guys are putting aside your differences to beat up on me, but could we maybe save that until after we’re sure the we’re not gonna get set on fire?” The girls, mercifully, fall silent. A metal drawbridge lands on your deck with a thud, and an armored man struts imperiously onto your ship, flanked by two skull-masked firebenders. Captain Zhao, presumably. “You were flying the white,” Zhao says, “and did not attack us. I will thus offer a warning. You are interfering in a Fire Navy operation. You will donate needed supplies and leave immediately.”You bow. “You must be the illustrious Captain Zhao. Men call me Guybrush Threepwood, and I-”“That isn’t a name,” Zhao says, his mouth set in a hard line. “I won’t be ridiculed on my own ship.”Technically this is your ship, but you’re not about to correct him. “Okay, I’ll be straight with you,” you say instead. “We’re here because our interests align. We want the Peaks as pirate-free as you do.”“Ah,” Zhao says, still sounding unimpressed. “Agents of the new Lord Chamberlain then? Or just rival pirates?” You try to answer, but he holds up a hand. “It makes no matter. The situation is well in hand. I have six of the most advanced warships in the world under my command, and I’m chasing rabble. The pirates here will be shattered before the moon turns. There is nothing you could possibly offer me.”>“You haven’t heard my plan…” (What?) (Social Check DC Variable)>“There has to be something you want.”
>>3131818>“You haven’t heard my plan…” (What?) (Social Check DC Variable)
>>3131827>>3131840Do you guys have a specific plan in mind? So far this >>3131703 is the only one offered.
>>3131818>“You haven’t heard my plan…” (What?) (Social Check DC Variable)Have you never fought a guerilla army before? You cannot defeat them with a single fist of troops; you might win the battle, but they will always escape and regroup. Add to that attacking them on their home territory? You have a recipe for disaster. What you don't know is that the pirates are more fractious than a single unified group. Just take this man I've got captured here, for instance. He was fleeing the Black Belle's draft. But the more pressure you put on them from the outside, the more unified they'll become, and the harder they'll be to shatter for good. What you need to do is apply pressure from within - enable one of their factions to rival the other - then they'll tear themselves apart for you.Of course, you could always continue as you have been, trying to catch a school of fish with a hammer. In that case, I'll at least be entertained.
>>3131818>“There has to be something you want.”
>>3131818>>3131848This is nice. To reinforce the point, we can explicitly tell him our own observations about his tenuous position. If possible, I also like >>3131703 and his plan of sabotaging the Ironclad for the Kaiju. Not sure if Zhao would even be willing to intentionally lose one of his ships but it's something to bring up.
>>3131818>“You haven’t heard my plan…” (What?) (Social Check DC Variable)This ones are cool >>3131703>>3131848we have a social auto-success anyways.
>>3131868to lower dc, and maybe pass low rolls. I don't think asking a flotilla captain to give up one of his ships for a risky gamble is something that is gonna go over well with him.
>>3131883Where does it say the auto-success works like that? Zhao is kind of a fucking idiot anyways.
>>3131898Yeah, but he's the kind of idiot that will lock us away and still use our idea.
>>3131818>>“You haven’t heard my plan…” (What?) (Social Check DC Variable)The idea, Zhao, is that the Ironclad you give me is sabotaged in ways that can't be found by someone not familiar with how Ironclads function. Once Iron Kaiju has his trophy, he'll lead an assault on Black Belle. While the assault would normally leave Belle victorious and uncontested, if a bit bloody, you're going to come in from the side during the fight and hit both pirate fleets while they're focused on eachother, taking out the entire mass of criminals in a single move that will be sung about from here to the Northern water tribe.>If we use the auto-successLook, Zhao, the Pirates are everyone's problem. I don't really care about 'Who used Who' or a bit of extra reputation. What matters to me is that the pirates are gone.
Okay, summing up:>>3131703>>3131848>>3131910These 3 posts seem to be variations on the same plan, which has fairly widespread support.Zhao is obsessed with boosting his own ego, but he also displays a willingness to work with specialists to perform certain jobs (the archers/the pirates). I think he'd see the price of a single ship as worth a speedy resolution of the issue, but the idea of taking orders from a teenager rankles him. So I'd say this is DC 60.You have 1 social autosuccess, which will grant you a success without the need to roll, but is a rare reward that you might not replenish for a while. I'm going to give you 30 minutes to vote on whether to use it or not. Rolls thrown before the vote is resolved will not count. >Use social autosuccess>Don't use social autosuccess
>>3131936>Don't use social autosuccessI think a DC of 60 is a fairly reasonable risk. Not to mention this isn't an all-or-nothing situation; if we fuck this up, we can always try with Belle.
>>3131936>Don't use social autosuccessWe need to keep this in our back pocket right until the endgame.Or until we actually go into the Fire Nation and get the chance to pal up with the cast there. I will willingly sacrifice everything for the opportunity to say 'That's rough, buddy.' to Zuko.

>>3131818“The way I see it, you don’t fight a school of fish with a hammer, sir,” you explain. “Black Belle and her pirates are guerillas. You can chase them round and round their home turf, and yeah, you’d eventually win, probably. But there’s a quicker way.” You motion towards Hai, still chained to your ship. “The pirates here aren’t all happy with Black Belle. We caught this one fleeing, and we’ve met with the Iron Kaiju, who is determined not to kneel.”“Pirates are always fighting amongst one another. It’s in their nature,” Zhao says. But, tellingly, he doesn’t force you to be quiet. “Why waste time chasing enemies who will destroy each other given half the chance?” You ask. “The Iron Kaiju is a seasoned killer. He ‘’wants’’ to kill Black Belle. But he can’t do it without an ironclad.” You look pointedly towards the ships surrounding you. “Let me take a ship to the Iron Kaiju. I’ll gladly take some of your soldiers aboard as escorts. When he goes off to smash Black Belle, follow him. They bloody each other, you sweep in and take down the remnants.”Zhao strokes his sideburns with his hand, pacing back and forth. “You would have me turn an ironclad over to pirates. That’s exactly what got us into this mess in the first place.”“Sabotage the ship. The Iron Kaiju’s never sailed an ironclad before, he won’t notice. Surely the quick resolution of the pirate problem is worth a single ship.”Zhao pauses. He’s considering it, you can see it in his eyes. One of the skull-masked firebenders leans in and whispers something to him. “I know that,” Zhao snarls. “But every minute I’m here is another moment those brats are consolidating power without me. I end this today, I return home a Commander.”He wheels on you. “I’m willing to try this, on my conditions. My men will escort you on the ironclad. The slightest hint of treachery, and they kill you and all your crew. Is that understood?”“Sounds reasonable, sir.”“The rest of my flotilla will be following close behind. Rowing power, as I understand the need for discretion. When we attack, you will be responsible for your own safety. I will shed no tears if you are caught in the crossfire.” Something like trepidation must flicker across your face, because Zhao smiles. “If you’re truly so committed to the cause of ridding this backwater of pirates, the risk of death should be a small price to pay, yes?”You flash him an uneasy thumbs up. >cont.
>>3132197You have never seen a man so happy as the Iron Kaiju when you give him an ironclad. “Now this is a flagship!” He roars, banging his axe against the metal hull. “A ship worthy of my majesty!” He claps you on the shoulder. “I’ll admit I didn’t believe in you, Whybrush, but I’ve never been happier to be wrong!”Zhao’s firebenders, their armor replaced by pirate rags, give you a look. You do your best to ignore them. “Aye, this’ll kill the wench,” the Kaiju says. “Men! Aboard! The fire’s in my blood, we’ll use it!”There’s a cheer from the Kaiju’s crew as they stream aboard. “About that, sir,” you say, jogging to keep pace with the Kaiju. “I think it would be best if you used some of my crew to man the ironclad. I have some Fire Navy deserters, they know their way around the ship.”“Fire Navy deserters?” The Kaiju asks. He glances at Zhao’s men, curious. “I didn’t see them earlier, did I?”“Ah, well, they’re very…inconspicuous,” You say. “They fade right into the background. Even I forget they’re there sometimes.”Zhao’s men are six feet tall and ripple with muscle. The Kaiju grunts. “You’re a funny one, boy. A funny one indeed.”*You pace the bow of the ironclad, back and forth, back and forth. Toph and Suki wait on either side of you, Toph leaning against the railing, Suki sitting with her legs crossed in meditation. “If you don’t stop pacing I might jump off this ship,” Toph says. “I’m just worried about the plan,” you whisper, drawing closer to her. “I feel like we’re running a lot of schemes here, and honestly I’m not sure it’s enough. I’m flying by the seat of my pants and I can barely keep all my lies straight, and my first instinct is to pile more lies on top of it.”“You’re a pretty smart guy, Sokka. Or Guybrush, or whatever you’re going by now,” Toph says, smiling somewhat. “You followed your gut in Ba Sing Se and that…mostly worked out.”“Is everything okay over there?” Suki asks. Looking up from her meditation. She makes no move to join the two of you, however.”“We’re talking,” Toph says. “You know, a private conversation?”Suki quickly averts her eyes. “Right,” she says, voice quiet. “Sure.”You’d like to pry into that a little more, but perhaps now isn’t the best time. The Kaiju is signaling the crew to quiet down as you approach Black Belle’s island. There isn’t much time before the assault. >Sail ahead to Black Belle and distract her forces (Social DC 60)>Commence the assault (Combat DC 70)
>>3132198>Sail ahead to Black Belle and distract her forces (Social DC 60)it's easier to roll a 60 than a 70
>>3132198>Commence the assault (Combat DC 70)Enough talking, let's GET IT ON!
>>3132198>>Sail ahead to Black Belle and warn her of the coming attack. Have Hai at the head, trying to get in her good graces by selling out Kaiju and Zhao. Make it look like he's lead a mutiny against you, him and your men can bust you out once the fighting starts.
>>3132203Or, if people don't like Zhao, we could have Suki do it in an attempt to barter safe harbor for her island.
>>3132198I'm having difficulty thinking of a line of approach for bullshitting the Black Belle. What yarn would we even spin her? Conditionally going with >Commence the assault (Combat DC 70)unless someone can come up with a good idea for the social option.
>>3132198>Commence the assault (Combat DC 70)
>>3132206Easy. Either Hai attempting to get in her good graces, or Suki bargaining for the safety of her island. Toph might be a bit of a stretch, otherwise I'd suggest her. Either way, I'm going to assume spies of Belle's have already warned her of who we are and how we got Kaiju the Ironclad, so the only way a warning can be given and believed from one of our people is if they "betray" us.
>>3132203Playing all three sides like this will more than likely to cause all of them to gang up on US by the end of it all.
>>3132209How? We are surrounded by water, unless a guy jumps ship and swims all the way to the island to warn her.
>>3132209Yes, but what purpose would that serve? What are we trying to get her to do by talking to her? Social combat should always have some objective in mind.Or is it just a simple distraction - in which case we'll be occupying the attention of one single person while the rest of her fleet would presumably be intelligent enough to react to an incoming attack, and putting ourself right there for her to execute once our treachery becomes apparent?
We could just cut our ties to the Earth Kingdom and join the Fire Kingdom and become a world-renown tea maker who learned the trade from the best Tea School and united the world through the art of tea.
>>3132213Only if the any of the three leaders are alive by the end of it.We'll just have to see to it personally that doesn't happen.>>3132215Like I said, we go out to distract Belle and then someone on our ship fakes a mutiny in transit. Instead of distracting her like we were supposed to (and the option suggests) the mutineer (either Suki or Hai, Suki will be less likely to fuck us over but also might get betrayed herself if Belle's a vindictive cunt) warns Black Belle of the coming navies, both of them.>>3132218The objective is to give Belle time to turtle up. She might be able to run from an Ironclad Fleet like Zhao, but unless she gives up the entire powerbase she's been building up she won't be able to outmaneuver the second, if smaller, pirate fleet that Kaiju is bringing to bear. So, she'll turtle up and meet both fleets with weapons flashing. All we'll have to do then is kill her and her inner circle before she can disengage, and her fleet will shatter even as it inflicts heavy losses on Zhao, and Kaiju gets caught between the Zhao-Hammer and the Belle-Anvil.From the moment the battle starts, our objective will be making sure NOBODY wins.
>>3132222Realistically, the pirates are the only ones we need to make sure lose. Zhao just wants to fuck off home from this bullshit assignment. And it's easier to ensure that one side wins than that all sides lose.I'm also not too confident in our ability to carry out an assassination and then sneak/fight our way out of the center of enemy territory back to our own lines.
>>3132228>I'm also not too confident in our ability to carry out an assassination and then sneak/fight our way out of the center of enemy territory back to our own lines.this
>>3132228There won't be a center.Alright, you want a plan then? If Belle knows that Zhao's on his way, she can stall Kaiju's fleet and act as the anvil to Zhao's hammer. Then, when the two of them are locked in combat, envelop them both with her superior numbers. They'll be surrounded, but only inflicting half the casualties on her fleet they could otherwise. As such, we'll most likely be on the outer-most layer when the shit really hits the fan.

>>3132198You’d like to say your attack caught Black Belle off guard, but she was waiting for you.Her stolen flagship, the Pirate Black, is even larger than the ironclad you gave the Kaiju, but the crazy old pirate doesn’t seem to mind. “Hurlers!” He shouts, raising his axe to the sky. “Crush her grounded forces!”In a moment, the sky is so full of flying boulders that you’re half convinced you’re back in Ba Sing Se’s royal palace. The crash of the waves quickly snaps you back to reality however, as the Iron Kaiju rams his ship directly into the Pirate Black. Your world shutters, and you’re forced to grab Toph by the collar before she tumbles into the sea. “Screw this!” She shouts, gripping your arm with a feverish strength. “Get me to dry land now!”You couldn’t agree more. You signal Suki and pull Toph up onto your back, her arms wrapped tightly around your neck. You and Suki charge the Pirate Black and leap, and are followed quickly by two of Zhao’s firebenders. You hit the metal deck of Black Belle’s ship and stumble, waving your arms desperately to maintain balance. “Almost there! You shout to Toph, as you lower your shoulder and charge a pirate. He swipes at you with a dagger but misses, and your collision sends him soaring over the edge into the surf below. You follow quickly after. Finding and killing Black Belle is the absolute priority – if she’s allowed to survive then it’s only a matter of time until she sets up another pirate queendom. You crash hard into the ocean, saltwater filling your nose and mouth, the impact tearing Toph away from you. “Sokka!” She screams, flailing wildly. “Sokka!” Then she’s gone beneath the waves. You shout for Suki’s help but she’s already ahead of you, swimming towards the shore, the sounds of battle making it impossible to get her attention. So, alone, you dive under the water to find Toph. The sea is choked with sand and debris, and you grab hold of a corpse before you find Toph – but you do find her. She fights and kicks you at first, an instinctive reaction to drowning, but you press her tight against you. Her hands find your face, and only then does she relent, letting you tow her up to the surface. She sucks in air greedily, but there’s no time to slow down. You pull her towards the shore, where Suki is engaged in pitched combat with three of Black Belle’s pirates. One stabs at her with a spear but she leaps over it, planting a heel in his face and throwing one of her bladed fans at another pirate. It takes a chunk out of his throat as it flies past, and he collapses to the sand. You yank Toph ashore and she collapses to the sand, still coughing up seawater. A pirate rushes you but you block his strike with your forearms and land a bevy of punches across his chest and face, knocking him to the ground. >cont.
>>3132368“I’ve got you!” Suki shouts. She sprints lightly across the sand, elbow smashing in the nose of a pirate that gets to close. But when she places a hand on Toph’s shoulder, the younger girl recoils.“No! Sokka!” She shouts, hands shooting out to grip at your shirt. Suki flinches as if struck, but you signal for her to cover your continued advance. It would be better if Suki could lead – your boomerangs allow you to cover more angles – but Toph is worth the inconvenience. “BELLE!” The challenge rings out as if from a horn, but when you turn you see only the Iron Kaiju standing in the water. The surf and sand around him is soaked red with blood, and he bleeds from a half a dozen wounds, but if anything he only looks stronger for his injuries. “COME ON WOMAN!” He bellows. “SHOW ME HOW A QUEEN DIES!” He’s rushed by a small group of Belle’s pirates, but bisects them with a single swing of his great axe. Say one thing for the Iron Kaiju, say he knows how to make an entrance. Thankfully, his little display pulls enough attention from you that you’re able to get Toph to solid ground relatively unmolested. She practically dances as her feet hit rock, but celebration is cut short by the arrival of more pirates. They have a fire nation woman with them, a dark skinned and cloaked in red and gold. The air around her shimmers with heat. Toph throws boulders at the approaching crew, but the firebending woman leaps into the air. Twin bursts of flame send her up high, and Toph loses track of her – but you and Suki work in concert, cutting off her landing, forcing her to adjust with another blast of flame. Toph is holding her own against the other pirates but she can only move so fast, and the pirates are the worst type of enemies for her to face – quick and light on their feet, hard for her to pinpoint and never in one spot for long. You, however, have your own problems. Suki trades blows with the firebender but is forced to duck away when she unleashes a gout of flame that torches the grass in front of her. You hurl a boomerang but the firebender jerks her head to one side, letting it sail harmlessly past her, then throws out a fireball to knock it off course as it returns. “You think this is going to stop her?” The firebender snarls. “She is a queen! The Kaiju is an old man, and he does not have the ships to take our fleet.” She nods towards the bay, where Belle’s ships are surrounding the Kaiju’s ironclad. “See? Already he falls. You have only delivered us another ironclad, another weapon for her fleet.”“Yeah, maybe you’re right,” you say, smiling. “Too bad I’ve got schemes on schemes on schemes, baby!”At that exact moment, Zhao’s flotilla makes itself known. It’s as if the spirits themselves are smiling down on you. >cont.
>>3132369The firebender is so stunned by Zhao’s arrival that she doesn’t see Suki coming until it’s too late. The Kyoshi warrior takes a running leap and slams her knee into the firebender’s chin, and the dark skinned woman is out like a light. A moment later Suki is knocked to the ground by a massive stream of water, and you get your first look at the infamous Black Belle. She’s beautiful, there’s no denying that. Tan skin of the Water Tribe, dark black hair, a fire in her eyes, she looks every bit the pirate queen she claims to be. She whirls her arms around her head and summons more water from the ground behind her, whipping it towards you, but you dodge aside and throw a boomerang. She catches it in a wall of ice. “You brought the Fire Navy here!” She shouts. “Two days! I needed two fucking days!” The water whips towards you again, and this time you can’t stop it from cracking you across the jaw. Stars explode across your vision, and you’re saved only by the timely intervention of Toph – but she can’t protect herself from the water, which never touches the ground, and is shoved violently against a tree for her trouble. “Well if I’m going down,” Black Belle says, hitting you with her water whip again, and again, and again, “then I’m taking all you fuckers down with me!”The Iron Kaiju catches her in the side with a bull rush, and they both topple to the ground. The Kaiju reaches for his axe but Black Belle is quicker, and with a gesture the water works its way into his mouth and nose. The old pirate stumbles back, clawing at his throat, but there’s nothing he can do. You break Black Belle’s concentration with a well placed punch, and the Iron Kaiju retches water and bile. Now it’s your turn to grapple with the pirate queen, the two of you rolling this way and that, struggling for leverage, as the Iron Kaiju lifts his massive axe. “Guybrush!” He roars. “It’s been an honor!”Oh, now he remembers your fake name. Right as he’s about to cut you in half. Amazingly, it’s Zhao that saves you. The Fire Nation Captain has rushed the beach, following the priority targets, and his fire blast sends the Kaiju howling, the stench of burnt flesh filling the air. Toph sends a waist high pillar of rock cutting your way, and you dive away from it just in time for it to shatter several of Black Belle’s ribs. Zhao falls on the Iron Kaiju, his hands burning with barely controlled, flame, and you draw another boomerang from your belt. Black Belle lies battered and nearly broken, struggling to draw breath. Zhao and the Iron Kaiju are locked in combat, separated from their troops. You, as they say, hold all the cards. >Kill Black Belle>Capture Black Belle>Kill the Iron Kaiju>Capture the Iron Kaiju>Kill Zhao>Spare Zhao
>>3132372>Kill ‘em allI LOVE power vacuums
>>3132372>Kill Black Belle>Kill the Iron Kaiju>Spare Zhao
>>3132372>Kill Black Belle>Kill the Iron Kaiju>Spare ZhaoIt's interesting. We could kill Zhao, but he seems intent on serving as a balance to Zuko and Azula's unchecked rule. And though he is a dick, it might be useful to have an acquaintance, if not an ally, placed highly in the Fire Nation. Also we do kinda owe him one for saving our ass, if unintentionally.
>>3132372>Capture Black BelleShe's the one we actually came to deal with, but killing her ourselves is a bit more ruthless a solution than Sokka probably meant for; capture her and let Zhao take her prisoner to deal with however works best for him - might even get us more brownie points with him.As for the Iron Kaiju and Zhao himself... Well, we COULD just conk Kaiju once we've secured Black Belle, and then just let Zhao handle it. But then, we could also just leave it in Zhao's oh so capable hands; after all, he DID say that "When we attack, you will be responsible for your own safety. I will shed no tears if you are caught in the crossfire [...] If you’re truly so committed to the cause of ridding this backwater of pirates, the risk of death should be a small price to pay, yes?”The real question is, do we hope to count on him as an ally for if we ever go to the Fire Nation?

>>3132372>>Capture Black Belle>>Capture the Iron Kaiju>>Kill ZhaoThis is even a merciful fate for Zhao. "KILLING THE MOON" probably won't happen in this timeline but it's better if we don't take chances. As for the other two, I want whatever bounties they have.
>>3132391I'd rather we have cards to play if we want when we want...
>>3132416I imagine the Kaiju won't trust us again after this, and Belle never trusted us in the first place. Is there any possible way we could apprehend the Kaiju such that he'd be amenable to act on our behalf after this? Given his 'Guybrush, it's been an honor', he doesn't seem to have caught on just yet, but he probably will once we turn on him unless we're very careful about it.

>>3132453If we kill him we get more credit for the victory. >>3132452>>3132461>Zhao and the Iron Kaiju are locked in combat, separated from their troops. I'm guessing there's no one to tattle on us besides the pirates and our friends, and I'm also guessing that if killing him is an option it's because we can get away with it. Besides, we can just blame Kaiju.
>>3132372>>3132391I'll just take this chance to clarify my vote:>Capture Belle>Capture Kaiju>Spare ZhaoWe get both the pirates and the Fire Nation Fleet out of our neck of the woods while (hopefully) scoring some goodwill with Zhao before he fucks off. >>3132461And do I have to remind you that the Fire Nation is at war with the Earth Kingdom, the guys we are allied with? Killing this guy is perfectly reasonable.

>>3132468>the guys we are allied withWe may be the hero of the revolution, but the Southern Water Tribe has been staying the fuck out of this conflict for the most part; any involvement is more personal than political. We're out on a journey to educate ourselves, not a political mission as envoys.
>>3132468furthermore, we are the "nominal" future chief the elders can revoke our statues and starting a war without the support of the other tribes that make up the southern water tribe seems like a great way to fuck things up. so once again to all anons don't be stupid just because you can do something does not mean to should.

>>3132478>Just exactly how powerful of a position do we have in our own tribe?People have high hopes and expectations for us because our dad has ruled well as chief, but that rule isn't hereditary - we're still expected to go and prove ourselves worthy before we can be properly considered for the position. So we're basically a favored son of the tribe.>I feel like we are more influential in the earth kingdom that back at home right now.Possibly! Certainly people would be willing to lend an ear to a proven hero of the Earth nation. That said, we don't have any actual legal titles, so it's really more like we'd be unexpectedly welcome at the courts of the Earth kingdom, not unlike our status at home.In fact, if we kill anybody, it better be directly in self-defense or it's basically just manslaughter, what without any legal authority anywhere; back in Ba Sing Sei, at least Toph's dad had our back regarding any bodycount we racked up in the name of the revolution.

Even Suki would be reluctant on pirates protecting them from raiders. If its Kaiju, hes already old and wasnt one for unification anyway. He can be around as a roadblock for anyone else wanting to pull something, fire nation or otherwise.Zhao? He'll be replaced with another. Hopefully its not someone so power hungry.OOC it might be nice to get Belle for waterbender teaching, but oh well. >>3132372With your ship safely back on course, you turn your attention back to the treasure horde. There has to be something in here Katara would like – maybe you should ask Suki. Suki is a girl.Instead, it’s Toph who opens the door and feels her way inside, plopping down next to you to fiddle with some necklace of colored sea glass. “Please tell me we’re done with ships for a while,” she says. I’m getting so tired of not being able to see anything.”“No ships for a good long while, I promise,” you tell her, picking up a pearl bracelet. Does Katara like pearls? “You’ll like the South Pole better, I think. Lots of snow, but there’s earth under it.” You frown. “We’re gonna have to figure out how to keep your feet warm.”“Yeah, sure,” Toph says, though she doesn’t particularly sound like she’s paying attention. “So are we going to be dropping Suki off on the way, or…”“Hm?” You examine a box that holds a pair of sapphire beads that look like you might thread hair through them. Katara is always doing weird hair loopy stuff, you remember. Or you could always just get her one of those fancy birds. “No, I promised her I’d approach the Southern Water Tribe about protecting her island. She’ll have to come with us, talk to my dad a little bit.”“Oh. Right.” “Look, I know everything isn’t exactly okay between you two, but-”“Just drop it, Sokka,” Toph says. >>3132372>>3132842(Oh man oh jeez oh snap that was supposed to be the last post.)Black Belle is, of course, still the priority. She thrashes mightily as you approach her, high speed blasts of water leaving long, shallow cuts across your face and arms, but she’s too weak to truly fend you off when you fall on her, driving your knee into her broken ribs and forcing the breath from her body. Her eyes shimmer with hate as you press the bladed edge of your boomerang to her throat and sweep your arm out.The Queen is dead, may there never be another. Zhao and the Iron Kaiju are still struggling when you pick yourself up and move towards them. Zhao’s skin burns the Kaiju wherever they touch but the old pirate seems to be beyond pain, and is in the process of choking the life from Zhao by the time you reach them. “It’s been an honor, Kaiju,” you say, before lopping the man’s hand off at the wrist. He roars in pain, falling back on the sand, and you pin his arm to the ground with your heel as he reaches desperately for his axe.It takes half a dozen solid blows from your boomerang to finally put him down though – the Iron Kaiju is not one to die easily. Zhao watches you do the deed, a glint of approval in his amber eyes. With their leaders dead, the pirates are quick to scatter. Toph and Suki busy themselves by herding those who flee back towards the Fire Navy marines, whose discipline and training (not to mention their firebending) allows them to easily destroy any wooden ship that tries to escape the cove. A good number of pirates, including the firebending woman you and Suki fought earlier, escape into the jungles – but without Black Belle to unify them, you doubt they’ll become a serious problem anytime soon. “Quite the coup for us, I have to say,” Zhao says, the two of you overseeing the aftermath. You have the Iron Kaiju’s axe slung over your shoulders – the thing is taller and heavier than you are, but it’s a pretty awesome souvenir. Maybe you’ll give it to your dad as a gift. You’re sure you’ll be able to find something for Katara amongst the haul of miscellaneous treasure your crew is storing aboard the Shanty. You’ll have to split the treasure with your crew, of course, but there’ll be plenty for you to sift through – fine silks and pelts, exotic weapons and mirrors, a menagerie of colorful birds. Zhao’s men are likewise loading his ironclads full of their share of the treasure. Quite a bit more than their share, you note, but Zhao still has far superior firepower and you’re not so attached to baubles that you’re going to strain a good thing over it. >cont.
>>3132846“Less than half a year away and I’ll return home, triumphant, with not only all my ships intact, but the Iroh recaptured as well.” Yes, Zhao certainly sounds proud of himself. “I wouldn’t be surprised if I skip Commander entirely and jump straight to Admiral.”“Well you’ve certainly performed…admiral-bly.”Zhao is, predictably, unamused. “I suppose I have you to thank, in some small part,” he says, bowing slightly. “You have a friend in the Fire Nation, Captain…”“Sokka,” you say. You’ll miss Guybrush Threepwood, but there’s no real point in hiding your identity anymore – on the off chance you want to call in the favor Zhao owes, you hiding behind aliases will only make things more complicated. “Sokka of the Southern Water Tribe.”“Ah,” Zhao says, nodding. “Hadoka’s boy. I see it now, yes.” He pauses. “Well then, Sokka, I imagine it will not be long before we see each other again. And with that, he turns on his heel and stalks up the walkway to his ship. “Well,” you mutter, “that wasn’t ominous at all.”>cont. right here >>3132842

>>3132842Katara will like the sapphire beads, but that’s no reason to ditch the pearl bracelet entirely. You stick them both into your pockets before turning to face Toph, rubbing the back of your neck. “You know, my mom died when I wasn’t much younger than you.”Toph doesn’t say anything, but she doesn’t yell at you or storm off in a huff either. You take that as an invitation to keep going. “The Southern Tribes aren’t like the Earth Kingdom, with everyone unified. We share traditions, we intermarry, we fight together when we have to, but there’s a lot of bad blood between us. Fighting is pretty frequent.” You swallow. “It was the Owl Hare tribe. They came to our village at night…it was chaos…my dad was trying to rally the warriors, I was trying to help any way I could, and when the battle was over she was just…gone.” You shake your head. “Katara still hasn’t gotten over it. I haven’t either, it’s just…it’s not so raw anymore, you know?”Toph shakes her head. “I don’t really know what I’m trying to say,” you admit, sifting through the treasure pile, not seeing what’s in front of you. “I…well, you’re not alone, okay? You don’t have to talk to me about things, but if you want to, I’m here. I get it.”Again Toph says nothing. You reach out to take her hand, reconsider, and pull it back at the last second. The floor rolls gently as the silence stretches on and on and on. “I was supposed to be there,” Toph says. You snap back to reality with a start. “My dad put us in the panic room to keep us safe,” she continues. “But I thought…I thought I was strong, so I didn’t need to be protected. I stopped my mom and the guards with earthbending and I ran away.” She falls silent, but you wait patiently for her to find the words. Toph has never talked about what happened that day, not so directly, and she should take it at her own pace. “If I had stayed,” she says. “I could’ve been there. I could’ve stopped it.”“Toph, there was no way you could’ve known.”“It doesn’t matter! If I had been the daughter my parents thought I was, just once, Mom would still be here. But I only ever thought about me.”You turn to face her. “Toph, look at me.”“That won’t help.”“I mean, you know what I mean. Listen to me. You charged into the fight because you knew we needed you. That’s not being selfish, that’s being a warrior. Do you think I blame my dad for not being there when my mom died? Because he was out fighting instead of protecting her alone?”“Of course not,” Toph says. “But it’s different.”“How?”“Because she was my mom!”Were someone to ask you what kind of person Toph Beifong was, you would tell them a fighter, a warrior, a badass. You would tell them she was gruff and straightforward, quick to laugh and tease, and that you’d sooner hold back the tide than stop her when she got rolling. >cont.
>>3133912You’d also tell them that she was very careful in how she presented herself. You remember thinking, during that first week in the Beifong compound that Toph hid as much of herself from you as she did from her parents. But the girl that sits beside you now, tears spilling out from unseeing eyes, isn’t presenting anything – she merely is. Vulnerable, honest, and unadulterated for the first time you’ve ever seen, Toph Beifong grips your hand hard enough to break fingers, and she doesn’t let go for much of the remainder of the trip.*You’re leaning on the railing of the ship’s bow, imagining you can see the South Pole off in the distance, when Suki approaches you.Toph is nowhere to be seen, likely sleeping fitfully below deck, but just yesterday you saw them exchange pleasant, if awkward, words about the weather. Progress!“Can’t wait to get home, huh?” Suki asks, her elbows joining yours on the railing. “Is it that obvious?”Suki laughs. “Don’t worry, I’d be the same way if we were this close to Kyoshi Island. I’ve been away so long that…I don’t want to go back without good news.”“You’ll have it,” you assure her. “I was serious when I offered protection. The Shark Squids don’t represent all the Southern Tribes.”“I know,” Suki says. “I actually wanted to thank you. I know this won’t be easy, going up against another tribe.”You grimace. “You know what our politics are like?”“I know you guys have fought wars for less than this.”“Small wars. And with any luck it won’t come to that.”“Still. You’re sticking your neck out for me.”“Well…” you don’t want to say you aren’t, because you kind of are, but you don’t want to make paint Suki as a charity case, because she isn’t. “I want to be Chief after my dad. That means learning to deal with the other tribes, and this is a good cause. It’s one I care about.” You frown. “It bothers me that I didn’t even know your island was being raided. Sometimes I worry about the Southern Tribes. We’re so fractured…five heads, all pulling a different way.”“Is that something you want to change?” Suki asks. “If you became Chief, would you want to centralize control?”It’s a question that’s crossed your mind quite often recently. Ba Sing Se showed you the perils of a centralized authority, but it also shown you the strengths. And the recent mess in the Thousand Peaks illustrated just how one can exploit a divided force, turning them against each other with quick thinking and honeyed words. Could the Southern Tribes suffer a similar fate? >>3133946monarchy with the heir elected by the previous monarch and his advisors
>>3133922Voting for this. We aren't really fully aware how the tribes work out of character or the entire reality of what we are working with. It's in our best interest to get a better grasp how the world works and maybe also officially becoming chief before we make Grand plans.Should be our top priority to visit as many unaligned powers as we can including the other water tribes I'm seeing what works best in this world before deciding. I can't imagine thatan Arctic or Antarctic society would have the means to industrialized begin with unless we continue to greatly strengthen our ties with the Earth kingdom. I mean who knows there could be tons of ore and coal underneath the ice but without an army of water or Earth benders we would never be able to use it. The way the show made it seem our tribe is mostly hunter-gatherers to begin with we would be better suited too exploring and learning.
>>3133945But why? Is this what Sokka wants? I came here to play Sokka quest, not a civ one.
>>3133950the original sokka became cheif of the united tribes before representative in the united republics solore reasons
>>3133940It's possible that a centralized society is simply less suitable than a decentralized one for the climate of the South Pole. If, for instance, farming is not viable due to the environment, and the nature of their food sources are necessarily transient, a tribal hunter-gatherer lifestyle will be superior to a centralized system which requires permanent settlements.Society isn't a sliding scale where any one type is strictly better than all others in all situation; they evolve according to their own circumstances, adapting practices that are most suitable to them. You can't just look at how someone else does it and blindly adopt their practices without considering if they are applicable to you.
>>3133951Was this in Korra or did I miss an epilogue?
>>3133953russians in siberia are also in a cold enviroment and they still have a civilized and central government, they don't go around picking bushes and roots or clubbing seals >>3133957korra
>>3133959There's a difference between Russia and the fucking south pole anon. Especially resource wise. Even if we did, we're going to need specialized tech to work in these conditions to extract and process these resources. You want machines in general, you're going to have to import them so suck that Fire Nation dick anon and hope they give us something. Also thank you for answering my question.
>>3133965zhao owes us a favour
>>3133959Fortunately for Siberia, arable land exists to its south, west and east, to the extent that it was once an exporter of butter and grain to European Russia.Again, you can't just look at another place and go 'oh but these guys did it, so surely we can' without considering the differences in situation. Just because Siberia is cold doesn't mean that it's entirely comparable to the South Pole.I'm not saying the a decentralized government is necessarily the best. But I am saying that Sokka, and we, need to know more about things before making a decision.
>>3133969We're going to need WAY more than that anon.
>>3133971maybe we could give katara away to zuko in exchange for good tech?
>>3133972Ok, you had me chuckling
>>3133972Now you're thinking in CK2. Will Sokka apoint himself spymaster and plot to overthrow his own government?
>>3133913>The way things look, we might have to just to stand a chance against the fire nation. But that's exactly what happened with the pirates, so I'm not jumping to copy them step for step.>I need to see the northern tribes before I can really make a decision.
>>3133990>Establish a democratic republic >Coup himself and establish himself as supreme leaderGenius.
>>3133913>"No, a central government might threaten our way of life, But as things are we may be too fractured, maybe some kind of Advisory council between leaders every year or something? I’m not sure exactly what I’m saying, but a central government like Ba Sing Sa’s was too static, the water tribes need room to grow and change. I’d like to find a way to help to tribes grow a little closer without binding them too tightly. Maybe I need to keep looking a little longer?”
>>3134081I'll actually support this. Even a Judiciary council that can more peacefully handle disputes and formalize declarations of conflict between tribes would be better than the Anarchy currently present, but wouldn't infringe much on the rights of tribes.Baby steps, people.
>>3133913>>3134081Supporting this. Gives both a solution and acknowledgement of our need to see more of the world.
>>3134081Supporting this.>Gives both a solution and acknowledgement of our need to see more of the world.
>>3134081I like the idea of decently autonomous tribes reigned in by a limited central authority with representatives from each tribe, but "keep looking" is probably the best answer.
>>3134303Like a federation, you know of the native american variety
>>3134334Precisely, though I'd opt to strengthen the central authority just a little bit, to help contend with all the strong powers around the tribes
>>3134081Yes, I like this.
>>3134081We more or less just taught Zhao a way to conquer the water tribes. So, a solid way to communicate grievances between the tribes before fighting starts is important.
>>3134081And so the first steps to building a Republic are taken.
>>3133913>>3134081Pile on another vote for this.
>>3134558>“Sounds like we have quite a bit to talk about. Katara found something in the ice while you were gone.”OH SHITIT BEGINS
>>3133913“I don’t know,” you admit. “So much of our culture is built around the independence of the various tribes that I’m afraid a centralized authority would threaten our way of life. But I don’t want what just happened to the pirates to happen to us. Maybe some kind of yearly council, between the leaders, to help forge a unified direction?” You shake your head. “I left the South Pole to get some wisdom from the rest of the world, but the more I learn the less I feel like I know. There’s so much out there I haven’t seen. How can I decide what’s best for the Southern Tribes when I know so little.”“For what it’s worth, I think you have good instincts,” Suki says. “If you feel like you need to keep exploring, then go do it.” She smiles. “Honestly, I’m starting to think I might’ve been bitten by the wanderbug myself, so if you need a travelling buddy, be sure to let me know.”*The welcome you receive back at the South Pole is warm enough to melt right through the ice and send you tumbling into the sea. When the Shanty pulls up to dock, you’re met by a few hundred of your tribesmen, clambering to get a look at you as you disembark. You wave, they cheer. Some of them shout your name, other scream some variation on “the hero of the revolution” – apparently, some of your exploits got home faster than you did. It’s hard not to feel giddy in the face of that, but that’s nothing compared to what you feel when you see your dad and Katara. Katara rushes up to give you a hug. “I missed you,” she says. “I have so much to tell you!”“Not as much as I have to tell you.”“Oh, I doubt that.” She gives you a mischievous wink, but then steps aside to give your dad his turn. Chief Hakoda is a large, lean man, with shaggy hair covering his head and chin. His lined face is serious, solemn – but then he sees you and smiles, and pulls you into a fierce hug. When you break apart, you offer up the Iron Kaiju’s axe, which your dad takes. “Heavy,” he says, hefting it in his hand. “Did you take this off one of the royal palace guards?”“Off a pirate, actually,” you say. He quirks an eyebrow at you. “I’ll tell you about it later.”“Sounds like we have quite a bit to talk about. Katara found something in the ice while you were gone.”“What, an otter penguin? Is it juicy? Is it tender? When do we eat?”Your father smiles, but it’s somewhat strained. “She found the Avatar, Sokka.”You laugh. “No, really, what did she find?”“Hi!” Says a little boy in orange, blue arrow tattoos visible on his hands, feet, and very bald head. “I’m Aang. It’s great to finally meet you!”>cont.
>>3134561“So the Avatar’s alive.”You sit with your dad in the Chieftain’s igloo, while Toph and Suki mingle with Aang and Katara outside. Your dad nods, pouring something dark and foul smelling into two bone cups. “Katara found him frozen in ice, about a month ago,” he says. “He’s been there for a hundred years Sokka. Since before the war.”“Well…that’s good, right?” You ask. “I mean, it’s the Avatar’s job to solve problems like that. Now he can finally negotiate peace.”Your dad drums his fingers against the table. “One would hope,” he says, quietly. “But it’s been a long time since we’ve had an Avatar. I’m worried that the world won’t take kindly to his return, to being told what to do.” He shakes his head. “Or maybe I’m just being paranoid. My son is home, I should be celebrating.” He hands you one of the cups. “Drink. You’re a man now.”“Pretty sure I was already a man,” you say. “You put the war paint on my face, gave me my boomerangs, remember that?”Your dad chuckles. “That’s tradition, but you were still a child. Now you’ve gone out into the world. You’ve led men, you’ve killed them. It’s different.” He raises his cup and you both drink – it spreads like fire down your throat and into your chest, and you have to work not to cough. You fill him in on your time in Ba Sing Se and the Thousand Peaks, explaining it all – meeting Suki and Toph, joining forces with Lord Beifong and the royalists, killing Long Feng – then the whole mess with the Iron Kaiju, Black Belle, and Zhao. Your dad listens attentively, nodding, asking questions, considering your words. When you’re finally done, he claps you on the shoulder. “You’ve accomplished so much in such a short time,” he says. “I’m proud of you, Sokka.”>cont.
>>3134564“I still feel like I have so much left to do,” you tell him. “Dad, the Squid Shark tribe is raiding Suki’s home. They’re killing people, taking women and children. We have to stop them.”Your dad frowns, thoughtful. “That’s one thing to say, but quite another to do,” he says. “Chief Noak is far from our greatest ally. I’ve not yet met the girl they’ve named as his successor, but I’ve heard she’s fierce and wild. They’re not bear dogs, to be trained.”“That’s why we have to do it. We’re the only ones that can. We’re the southernmost tribe, closest to the moon.” “That's a nice saying, but it’s not true and you know it,” your dad says. “We settled south in the early days, sure. We won many battles, we grew strong. But we grew large, and the south is nothing but a desert of snow. We came north, even while others remained. As for the moon…well, the spirits remained in the Northern Tribe. We’re far from them now.”“I can stop them. I have to.”“I believe you,” your dad says. “I just wish you had chosen an easier task for yourself.” He sighs. “The good news is that you won’t have to wait long. The Chiefs are travelling here as we speak, to welcome the Avatar, and take counsel with him. While we wait, you can prepare your argument. I will, of course, help you with whatever you can.”Your shoulders sag, as if a weight was suddenly removed from them. “Thanks, dad.”Your dad nods. “I would also recommend you practice some of the warrior’s arts. Your boomerangs are versatile weapons, but it always helps to have options. Do you know how many times I’ve lost my club in battle?” He chuckles. "Knowing my way around a whale tooth scimitar has saved my ass more than once, even if a blade isn't nearly as satisfying.">“Could you train me with the club?” >“Suki could train me in hand-to-hand.”>“Do you think Aang knows how to use that staff of his?”>“I was hoping Bato had a polar bear pup I could train.”>Other

For fucks sake, first it was the stupid samefag discussion and now everyone is wildly shitposting. Get a hold of yourselves, god damn it.
>>3134930Since time immemorial, man has wanted to fuck the moon. Many have spent their lives on the waves, desiring nothing more than to love the ocean. If we can do it, we must make these dreams a reality. It is our duty, as a man, to try.It may be we cannot. It may be that Sokka, son of Hakoda, is not up to the task. Too busy handling the politics of a world in jeopardy. Too burdened with the responsibilities of his role, as a warrior, as a brother, as a leader. And so... it is up to Guybrush Threepwood, renowned buccaneer, dashing rogue, to go where no man has gone before!
>>3134943Not even at the waifu wars yet.
>>3134964You're all thinking too small. We need to make one big orgy with Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, securing an alliance with Nickelodeon Animation Studios.
The real path to truth is realizing that in order for the tribe to expand and dominate the world and cosmos, Sokka must castrate himself. The lebensraum will be ours for the taking in hours!

>>3135137I don't much like the thought of getting caught up in a war that isn't ours. Wonder if it's possible to maintain good relations with both sides without being directly drawn into their conflict. Surely that realize that the military might of a handful of nomadic tribes won't make much of a difference either way in grand scheme of their conflict?
>>3135144Meh, we haven't gone directly against the Fire Nation at any point and Zhao may be willing to vouch for us. Though he seemed to know us and our dad a bit more personally than I would have expected, so that might be an interesting topic to talk about with our dad - he even seems to expect to see us in the Fire Nation.
>>3134566“You’ve got the basics of this stuff down, but you’ve gotten too reliant on your boomerangs,” Suki explains. The two of you sit in a makeshift training yard, you in your hand-to-hand stance, Suki inspecting balance. She jabs her foot into the back of your knee and grunts approvingly when you manage to keep your feet. “The weapons are a force multiplier. They let you hit harder, or even cut enemies, which fundamentally changes the way you approach close quarters combat. Not to mention you can throw them. When you’re unarmed, you’re more limited in the amount of damage you can inflict, which means you have to be much more precise.” She grins. “Any questions?”You raise a hand. “So many. First, why are you wearing that?”Suki puts a hand on her hip and arches an eyebrow. She’s wearing a green dress under black armor, with a golden headband holding back her hair. Most strikingly, her face is painted – white skin, red lips, bold red eyeshadow. “It’s the traditional warrior dress of Kyoshi Island,” she explains, doing a little spin. “You should count yourself lucky we’re not there right now, or you’d be wearing one too.”“Yeah, I don’t know about that,” you say. “Sokka doesn’t do makeup.”“Oh really?” Suki points at the black paint above her eyes. “Because I’m pretty sure I borrowed this from your room.”“Hey, that’s war paint!” You say. “Totally different. Very manly. Back me up little guy.”Said little guy, a polar bear dog puppy you received from Bato just a few days ago, yips excitedly from the sidelines. Suki giggles. “Oh of course,” she says. “Totally different. My mistake.”For the next several hours, Suki drills you in the basics of the Kyoshi style – positioning, movement, using your opponent’s weight and strength against them. It’s a very Water Tribe style, one especially suited for the generally smaller, weaker female warriors of Kyoshi, and Suki knocks you on your ass a good fourteen times (she claims fifteen, but your dog tripped you up once, which doesn’t count) before you start getting the hang of it. “That’s a good first day,” Suki says finally. She drops to the ground, breathing heavily, the flush in her cheeks evident even through the makeup. “You’re picking this up pretty quick.”>cont.
>>3135137We should sell boats to both sides and sabotage whoever is coming close to winning.
>>3135155“You don’t have to sound so surprised,” you tell her, scooping your puppy up in your arms. “Isn’t that right boy? She doesn’t have to be so mean, does she?”Suki chucks a snowball at you. “Don’t act like you don’t deserve it,” she says. “Besides, if I was really mean I’d make you run laps.”“That’s a very good point. Thank you, Sifu Suki.”“You’re welcome,” Suki says primly. She reaches out and scratches your puppy behind the ears. “He’s so cute,” she says after a moment. “How long until he’s grown up?”“He’ll be big enough to ride in a year or so,” you say, echoing what Bato had told you the other day. “But they don’t reach full size until they’re eight or nine. Back when our tribe lived further south most warriors owned them, but that was when we travelled a lot and hunted most of our food. They’re not as suited for the sedentary lifestyle, are you boy?”Your dog replies by rolling onto his back and gnawing at some nearby snow. “And he doesn’t have a name yet because…”“I haven’t decided on one. I’m torn between Doggy and Beary.”“Those are both…such good names.”“I know! This stuff is hard.” You shrug. “He’s gonna be a lot of work, especially when he starts growing, but he’ll be worth it. There’s nothing more terrifying in the world than an armored polar bear dog charging at you.” “Terrifying and adorable,” Suki says. “Sounds like my kind of pet. Better make sure I don’t steal him from you.”You gasp in mock horror. “You wouldn’t dare.” Suki merely waggles her eyebrows. “Suki, I am a generous and patient friend, but if you steal my dog I will never forgive you.”* After a few days of training, you’re ready for a break. Everyone seems to be going their separate ways for the day, so you’ll have to decide who to accompany. >Go hunting with Toph>Go ice dodging with Suki>Go on a picnic with Katara and AangAlso, you really need to name your dog.>Doggy>Beary>Other

>>3135159“Hey Katara!” Aang shouts, leaping from the back of his flying bison and floating lightly to the ground, like a leaf caught in a gust of wind. “I got everything packed, and Appa found the best spot this morning! Are you ready to go?”“Of course!” Katara says, smiling. Her sapphire hair beads glitter in the bright morning light. “Sorry we’re late. I had to double the food I’m packing because Sokka’s coming along.”“He…is?” Aang asks, throwing a glance at you. “Oh. That’s…great.”“Yeah, well I figure it’s time to catch up with Katara,” you say, your eyes locked on Aang’s. “As her older brother, I am of course very concerned for her general well-being.”“Oh yeah…that makes sense,” Aang says. His eyes dart up, down, left, right – anywhere to avoid looking at youKatara shoves you playfully. “If I’d known you’d be this nice after going to Ba Sing Se, I would’ve sent you aware years ago,” she says. “Aang, help me up?”Appa drops his massive belly to the ground, and Aang offers a hand to help Katara clamber up onto the thing’s back. You place Yogi on your shoulders and hop up to join them in the large saddle. Aang takes a seat on Appa’s head and grabs the reins. With a “yip yip,” the bison takes off into the air. It’s actually fairly surreal – the wind whistles past your face as the ground grows smaller and smaller beneath you. Once you’ve taken a moment to get over the initial rush, you turn your attention back to Aang. “So a flying bison must be pretty useful,” you say. “Easier travelling than by ship.”“Oh yeah, me and Appa have been all over the world, haven’t we buddy?” Aang asks. Appa groans agreement. “We’ve been to Omashu, and the Fire Nation, and all the different Air Temples. And now we’re at the South Pole!”“If you really want to learn more about other cultures, you should talk to Aang about it,” Katara suggests. “I think it’s really great that you wanted to travel,” Aang says. “The monks always said that we have to achieve balance in our lives if we want to be our best selves. You can’t do that by staying in one place your whole life.”“Really. The Air Nomads said that.”“Yeah,” Aang says, giving you a confused look. “Why’d you say it like that?”You shrug. “It’s just that you’re the first Air Nomad I’ve ever seen. They haven’t ever visited the South Pole, that I know, and there weren’t any in Ba Sing Se either.”Aang frowns. “That can’t be right.”“I think there are some on the Earth Kingdom’s east coast, doing humanitarian aid,” you mention. “But they mostly keep to themselves, Aang.”“I’m sure there’s an explanation,” Aang says, shaking his head. But he’s quiet the rest of the flight. >cont.
>>3136375When you land at the picnic spot, you have to admit Aang picked a nice spot. You’re well past the more temperate areas of the South Pole, and the small cliff Aang selected overlooks an endless expanse of snow and ice. High walls shield you from the worst of the wind and chill. “So I’ve gotten the chance to talk to some of the people you met in Ba Sing Se,” Katara says, as you’re all chowing down. “Suki is very nice.”“I like Toph. She’s funny,” Aang says. “I’ve been helping her with her feet too. Airbenders have this special technique that lets us stay comfortable no matter what the weather’s like. Toph’s not an airbender, obviously, but even the basic breathing and chi components can help with the cold.” He shrugs. “She seems into it.”That’s actually great news. You haven’t seen much of Toph these past few days, so it’s good to hear that she’s hanging out with other people and tackling her vision problem. “Thanks, Aang. That means a lot.”“Of course!” Aang beams as he bites into his food, some kind of vegetarian dumpling that makes your skin crawl. At your side, Yogi tears ravenously at his otter penguin haunch, like it’s the last thing he’ll ever eat.You feel tears welling up in the corner of your eyes. Truly, that bear dog is an extension of your very soul. “I guess I didn’t expect you to be so popular with the ladies, Sokka,” Katara says. “It’s hard not to see you as that little kid who was convinced we all had cooties.”“First of all, I remain unconvinced that you don’t all have cooties,” you say, sniffing disdainfully at her. “Second, I wouldn’t exactly call myself popular with the ladies. Suki is here because I promised to help her island out, and Toph didn’t have anywhere better to go.”Katara pats you on the top of the head. “I’ve really missed you Sokka,” she says, a patronizing smile stretched across her face. The three of you enjoy the rest of the picnic in relative peace. You regale Katara and Aang with stories of storming the royal palace and pulling wool over the eyes of some pirate lore, and Katara tells you about how she discovered Aang trapped in the ice. Aang eagerly recounts penguin sledding, ice dodging and a whole host of other dangerous or animal related activities. “This was nice,” Katara says as the three of you start to pack up. “Soon the village is going to be so full of people trying to meet Aang, I’m glad we could have the day just the three of us.”“Yeah, it was great,” Aang says. Katara doesn’t notice, because she’s got her back turned, but Aang is stealing glances at her whenever he thinks you aren’t looking. It's official – the Avatar has it bad for your baby sister.>Say something (what?)>Ignore it
>>3136379>Say something (what?)I'll let you fuck my sister if I can secure an alliance with you
>>3136379>Ignore itOur sweet baby sister will ice us to the cliff if we even think to dictate her love life. Also a union with the Avatar will strenghten the Tribe, always useful considering we're actively planning to go to war with (or at least provoke) another tribe.
>>3136379>"Soooo... Anyways.. How'd you end up so far South anyhow? Travelling?"
>>3136379>Ignore itNot worth antagonizing the Avatar over this - does Katara even know he's interested? But if Zuko ever comes into the running for Katara's hand, I'm voting to sink this ship like the Titanic.
>>3136379Lets fuck up this mood up.Tell them about what happened with relation to Suki and Toph and ask what they think about it.
>>3136379>Say something (what?)Just reassure him that he doesn't have to keep watching out for us.Katara can take care of herself, we don't need to butt into whatever love life she'll have unless it's clearly harmful to her. I think an unspoken but heavily implied "don't hurt my sister" is enough.
>>3136379>>Say something (what?)"Good luck with Katara. Really, you two seem cute. But, you break her heart, I break your legs. Fair warning."An unclear disclaimer is nobody's friend.
>>3136438"If you 'nut and go' you'll find that your nuts won't go with you."
>>3136438Supporting that. I love the poesy of it.

>>3136468if you nut and go I'll become your nutcracker
>>3136379>>Ignore itwe need to let things happen naturally
>>3136379Ah, it's good to have the whole gang together now. Maybe things will be a little less murder-hobo with Aang around.
>>3136895>murder-hoboWhat? Where? When?
>>3136895We must breed oppa And yogi to secure an alliance with the air nomadsAlso good luck. Sokka has tasted blood, we need intervention or the warpath shall continue.
>>3136898Did you miss the parts where a shitload of people died in Ba Sing Se and the pirates got wholesale slaughtered?
>>3136903No, but how any of that was murder-hobo like?
>>3136908I mean, we kinda barged in, killed people and then barged out.
>>3136915Like a man!
>>3136903Exposing a conspiracy that leads to a civil war, and then participating in that civil war, is not murderhobo activity. Also we definitely weren't a hobo, so it'd just be murder. The pirates, maybe a little. Depends how much responsibility we have over those waters.
>>3136903The pirates would have probably killed each other even if we didn't step in - Iron Kaiju was certainly after Belle's life, and Zhao would have probably bought their heads back to his bosses if he had a chance. And Ba Sing Se, fair point. But then again without Avatar diplomacy it would have been super hard for Sokka to diplomacy his way out of things in the first place.
>>3136908>>3136915Yeah, we did a lot of our share of killing.
>>3136935Ok tell me that, did we have reason to kill those people?Did we attack them with no reason or unprovoked?Did they pose a threat to us or to the people around us?
>>3136379>Ignore itWe can tease him later when it gets a bit more obvious.
>>3136947Anon, I'm working off of show logic here, where the vast majority of take downs were non-lethal.
>>3136962Tbf, it's a kid show so they can't exactly show you people convulsing on the ground as the heat liquify their insides after getting fire-bended on the face or bleeding to death internally after getting squashed by some earth-bending.QM has been quite realistic on its portrayal without being edgy and that's a good thing and a testament of his great writing skill.
>>3136962Tell that to air nomads. Were there takedowns non lethal?

>>3136971Yeah, that's true, he has been realistic. desu when I came in I expected things to be more lighthearted and show-like. Things might actually get less bloody with Aang around now, though, who knows. >>31370171 post by this id dropping by with the buzzwords, thanks for your input.

>>3136379>I'll let you fuck my sister if I can secure an alliance with youThe idea is tactically sound, but you’re not sure if it’s the best way to approach your sister’s love life. Maybe you’ll just…keep that one in your back pocket for now. For now…You decide not to say anything. Katara wouldn’t take kindly to meddling (hypocritical, but alas) and you’d rather not risk antagonizing the bridge between worlds. *The next few weeks are largely uneventful. You continue your hand-to-hand training with Suki, increasing your skill from “rudimentary” to “competent” under her tutelage. Bato continues to educate you on the proper care and upbringing of polar bear dogs – you learn how to keep Yogi exercised and well fed, and begin teaching him simple commands by word, whistle, or hand sign. Toph manages to get Aang’s temperature control technique down enough that she can join you for brief trips outside the village, where you show her your favorite childhood haunts and hangouts. She’s particularly taken by an old cave system which she claims goes many miles down into the earth – she’s unmoved by your tales of dark spirits that inhabit the subterranean depths and makes you promise to take her again sometime. Suki, surprisingly, spends much of her free time ice-dodging and at the shipyard. She’s fascinated by your tribe’s navy and naval tactics, and quickly becomes a favorite of Kurac, a white bearded old man who serves as your dad’s First Captain. After a few weeks, she knows her way around a Water Tribe vessel almost as well as you do. Aang and Katara are almost inseparable. They take frequent flights on Appa and often don’t return until well after sunset, with new tales of some wonder they saw off past the horizon. Katara has also begun to teach Aang waterbending – though far from a master, she’s a skilled bender and takes quickly to teaching. Though she might have her hands full with Aang, who has twice her talent and an insatiable appetite for showing off. The first of the Great Southern Tribes to arrive to counsel with Aang is the Owl Hare tribe. A long column of somber men and women in white coats, they come on foot and riding buffalo yaks, with arctic camels burdened with offerings. Their reception is chilly – your tribe has not forgotten the recent war – but Hakoda greets their chief respectfully, if not affectionately. Katara remains at home, one of her few extended separations from Aang. They present the Avatar with one of their thick white coats, which Aang has no need for, but accepts graciously. >cont.
>>3138120The second Great Tribe to arrive, the Wolf tribe, is a far more raucous occasion. The Bear Dog and Wolf tribes are old, unswerving friends, though they prefer to stick to the old ways, following herds of yak across the desolate snowy plains. They win Aang over by presenting him with a rare white hamster, its fur a brilliant gold rather than the usual white. The third Great Tribe, the Tiger Seal tribe, has seen much of their power dwindle in recent decades but are old and proud. They gift Aang with a sphere of ice that distorts light in strange ways, claiming it will never melt because of the spirit residing within it. The Squid Shark tribe is the last of the Great Tribes to join you. Their fleet docks in the early morning, a little over two-dozen warships appearing suddenly out of the fog, each bearing the tribe’s stylized insignia. At the head of the fleet sails Chief Noak, a broad shouldered man with thick arms and a prodigious belly. Noak’s ship is not the first to dock, however – that honor goes to a much smaller vessel helmed by a girl around your age. Clad in blue and white fur, wearing armor that looks suspiciously like Suki’s Kyoshi armor, she leaps onto the dock before her ship has even stopped, drinking in the sights of your village. Her hair is a warrior’s wolf tail that extends nearly to her shoulders, and she runs her fingers through it as she sees you standing next to Aang. “Avatar!” She calls, sauntering up to where your greeting party waits. “So you’re here after all. Let me be the first of the Squid Shark tribe to welcome you back to the world. She bows low, but not so low that she doesn’t give you an unobstructed view of her cleavage. “I’m Kaya, Chief Noak’s chosen successor.Aang’s face is scarlet, but he manages to keep his cool. “I’m honored to meet you, and eager to assist the Squid Shark clan any way I can.”“Assist?” Kaya shrugs. “I don’t know what the other tribes have been telling you, but there’s nothing we really need. Life is pretty good for us right now.” Then she smiles, wicked sharp. “We know how to take care of ourselves.” Behind you, Suki tenses, but she says nothing. “Oh. Well…self-sufficiency…is a virtue?” Aang says, a pleasant smile on his face. Luckily, he doesn’t have to wait long before Chief Noak and his attendants join you.Noak exchanges polite, but terse words with your dad, then turns to Aang. “Avatar,” he says, “I hear my successor has already greeted you, but let me be the one to offer you your gift.” He withdraws from his belt two bladed fans. Covered in leaf of gold and silver, decorated with pearls and various gems, they must be worth a small fortune – and upon seeing them, Suki clutches at your wrist, fingernails digging painfully into your skin. Of course. What would the Squid Shark tribe offer, if not the greatest of their stolen spoils?>Tell Aang where the fans come from>Let it lie
>>3138120>>I'll let you fuck my sister if I can secure an alliance with you>>3138123>Tell Aang where the fans come from
>>3138123>Tell Aang where the fans come fromTold you he'd return :')
>>3138123Let's tell make a remark about it but without making it sounds like we're judging them, we did just bring spoils of war to our sister and dad ourselves after, I'm sure Aang won't need our push to get infuriated about it.If anything, let's be a little sarcastic and mock how they're giving him back an item he used to own in one of his past life after "liberating" it from the peoples he left to guard it.Honestly, I wonder how dumb they must be to not have thought that one through, we couldn't have set them up better if we had wanted to create a diplomatic incident.
>>3138123>>Tell Aang where the fans come from>>3138145Yeah we did bring back battle spoils, but we're not the one offering the Avatar pillaged goods while also taking credit for the making of them, like these guys are. Also dunno if they're that brave or that dumb doing this while a Kiyoshi warrior is right there.
>>3138120>The idea is tactically sound, but you’re not sure if it’s the best way to approach your sister’s love life. Maybe you’ll just…keep that one in your back pocket for now.You absolute madman.>Tell Aang where the fans come fromPart of me is currently wondering what the odds are on Belle's Pirate Queen bullshit having been some kind of Squid Shark powerplay...
>>3138123>Tell Aang where the fans come from>>3138148I don't think Suki is wearing her armor/make-up.
>>3138123>Tell Aang where the fans come fromBut do it quietly/away from Squid-Shark ears, or at least make it sound like a passing statement. We may already have tense relations, but an outright insult is a far cry from ambiguous jabs at courtroom enemies.
>>3138123>>Tell Aang where the fans come from
>>3138188It's not an out-right insult. Again, just sardonically remarking on the aplomb of stealing a relic left by the avatar and slaughtering the people he left to guard it before presenting it back to him as if it was a gift is all we need to do.Knowing Aang, he will probably immediately jump once he realize what they did without any need of further oil-throwing from us.
>>3138123>>Tell Aang where the fans come fromYYYEEEEEEYYYY
>>3138123>Tell Aang where the fans come from
>>3138123>Tell Aang where the fans come fromDon't push it though, aang is a smart guy just mention where they're from and let him fill in the blanks
>>3138203>Tell Aang where the fans come from
>>3138123Not closing the vote but I do want to make an announcement that will likely affect your votes going forward. In this AU, there is no Avatar State. I didn't decide that because I hate the Avatar State or because I think it's an asspull. I actually like the way the Avatar State is used in TLA. But its existence limits both me and you in a lot of ways that I feel would be detrimental to the quest. The Avatar still wields a lot of political and religious power, but he can't singlehandedly defeat armies whenever he gets mad. This means that having Aang on your side is a boon, but not an instant win, and having him against you is a hinderance, but not a lost cause. People can defy him even without the benefit of a massive empire that's dominated the world for a century. Aang froze himself with a combination of prodigious skill, instincts, panic and luck.
>>3138338well fuck me running, this complicates things
>>3138338why did he freeze himself though, he wanted to run away with gyatso not sleep untill everyone he ever knew died
>>3138338Hey remember that about fucking your sister?Ye forget about it!
>>3138123>Tell Aang where the fans come fromHehehehehe
>>3138338I mean, he's still the Pope/Dalai-lama thingie and raiders are presenting him what are essentially holy relics they plundered from a temple dedicated to him/his past-self.Even if he can't take on the whole world on his own, odds are high he still holds an huge amount of moral/religious authority over people.
>>3138354He really wanted to get with our sister.
>>3138635Well, our sister is quite the catch.
>>3138338As a side note, I had a question QM. There are five great tribes that represent the southern water tribe and its people/culture, but are there lesser tribes/settlements/nomadic groups that aren't necessarily part of the great tribes scattered around the south, or do the great tribes make up the entirety of the southern populace?
>>3138123>Tell Aang where the fans come fromAvatar state or not, letting him know would favor us in the long run. They'll be pissed but there isn't any love between the two tribes anyway and we can leverage the avatar on our side and help convince the others to give kyoshi island, an island that was once precious to a previous avatar, protection status. At the very least it would help immensely.
>>3138123“They’re beautiful,” Aang says humbly accepting the fans. “I’ll be sure to treasure them.”Suki’s nails dig a fraction deeper into your arm, and your face hardens. You can’t let them pull something like this. Not in your village, not the Avatar, not when Suki is standing right there, forced to watch as her people’s finest treasures are given away by the people who stole them. “They’re definitely the most expensive gifts you’ve received,” you tell Aang, leaning over his shoulder. You glance up at Noak and Kaya. “You must’ve gotten them from Kyoshi Island, right?” Kaya furrows her brow at you. “That’s Suki’s home,” Aang says. His voice is quiet, distracted, as if he’s not entirely here with you. “How did you get them?”Noak crosses his arms, eyes narrow. “Spoils of war,” he says simply. Aang glances between Noak and Suki uncertainly. “You took them from Suki’s people?” He asks.Kaya, still silent, is staring Suki’s face. Her eyes widen a fraction of an inch. Your dad clears his throat. “We should get inside for the feast,” he says, staring daggers at you. “It’s a cold day, and the chill can stoke a man’s-”“No,” Aang says, with a steel you’ve never heard from him before. “I want my question answered. Did you steal these from Suki’s people?”“They were taken during a raid,” Kaya says. “Plunder, as is our right. As is our way.” Noak nods. “Our custom. Our culture.”“Killing and stealing isn’t a culture,” Aang says, fingers tightening around his staff. “It’s not, is it?” Noak asks. “Perhaps you should tell the Fire Nation. They’ve practically made it their national pastime, in the hundred years you’ve been hiding here.”>cont.
>>3139267Silence. Aang takes a half-step backwards, processing Noak’s words. “Noak, enough,” your dad says. “The Avatar is my guest, and I won’t have him disrespected here.”“He is the one that does disrespect,” Noak says. “How much of your home is decorated with the spoil of some war or another, Hakoda? The Avatar insults us all.”Aang ignores his words, turning stiffly to face Suki. “Here,” he says, pressing the fans into her hands. “These belong to you. To your island.”“I don’t know what to say,” Suki whispers. “You don’t have to say anything,” Aang says. “They never should’ve been taken from you in the first place. The Avatar has been gone too long.” He stalks up the hill back towards the feast, the crowd parting before him with concerned whispers. “Aang!” Katara shouts, hurrying to catch up with him. Noak grunts. “Big words, for a man a hundred years dead.”“Noak, come to the feast,” your dad says. “Eat. We can talk about this over food and wine.”“Nothing to talk about,” Noak says, shaking his head. “But I’m not about to let a little boy chase me off from a good meal.”Your father nods, and begins leading the procession up towards where the feast is laid out. You fall in beside him, Suki and Toph hanging back. “What do you think you’re doing?” Your dad whispers. “Insulting our guests? Here? Now?”“He deserved to know where those fans came from,” you argue. “They were his, dad, in a past life. Taken from the people he entrusted them to!”“Maybe he did. But not in that way. Not when our relationship with the Noak is so rocky.”“The relationship was already rocky.”“And now they’re rockier. You think this will stop the raiding? Humiliating them when they come to take counsel?”“The Avatar-”“Is a boy of twelve who’s been gone a hundred years. And Noak was never much one for reverence. He’s more likely to dig in his heels than change his ways.” Your dad shakes his head. “Your heart is in the right place Sokka, but…these are our kin, and you’re sticking your neck out for an island you’ve never even seen. A girl who isn’t one of us. You have to be subtle about this, and that wasn’t subtle.”The two of you enter the tent, tables piled high with meats and fruits and candies of all descriptions. Aang is already seated at the place of highest honor, staring listlessly at his vegetarian meal. “Fix this,” your dad says, grabbing you by the shoulder. “I understand you want to help Suki, but I won’t tolerate a war with the Squid Sharks.” He squeezes your shoulder and walks off towards Aang and Katara. You sigh. Fix this. Easier said than done. >Speak to Noak>Speak to Kaya
