You haven't spent very long within the compound of Sun Woo's manor, but as you walk through the streets of the Fire District as they transition into the Earth District, it's clear as the snowy day can get that the other residents of Shirahoro are getting into the festivities. The usual hooded lanterns that hang along the buildings have been taken down and replaced by color-coordinated ones, groups of individuals cheerfully chatter among themselves as they purchase party supplies, and more than a few shops have fully embraced the season like the ones back in the previous District.

Still, you deftly navigate the crowds of the main street until you reach the far quieter side street that leads to your shop. The snow and frost that covers the dirt here is deeper, but your boots crunch through the frozen layers with ease. Thankfully you don't have to do much other than push away a bit of build up in order to open your front door. Brushing yourself off as best you can and kicking your boots clean, you leave your coat across the shop front's counter before heading inside the workshop and up the stairs.

Sierra's calmly sitting at the round table in your kitchen, with a bit of breakfast in front of her that's half-eaten. Naturally, you give her a quick kiss before speaking, "Sun invited us to a party; you interested?"

It doesn't take long for you to catch the dark-haired elf, given how your opening statement already covered the major bit, and once you do she gives a somewhat thoughtful look as you pick at the food on the table, "I didn't have much of a plan for the Festival. Really was going to go to Eden Hall more than anything else; but this invitation sounds like fun so why not? You have proper clothing for the party?"

"As of right now, these are my decent clothes," The slight quirk of her lips is all the response you get, "What? They're intact and aren't stained with blood."

"Maybe you should look into improving your standards, John."

Considering you're going to be going to a rather high end party, that is a good idea. With a bit of looking around, you could probably find a decent tailor around here and you've got the gold from your last job to afford some fine clothes for yourself and Sierra. On the other hand, you still haven't seen hide or hair of Lily since you brought her to Shirahoro; the fact that you haven't been visited by the Daimyo yet is probably a good thing, but you should check up on him.

Of course, you could just spend some time with Dutch; at likely Sarah.

Now what?

Let’s stop by the forge to talk to Sierra and tell her we need to check on Lily.
With luck we’ll spot her on way home or find her in the shop ahead of us. Barring that we can stop by archmage’s and ask.

It's really never been a concern of yours, given the general change in the direction of your life upon waking up in Airgrid you didn't think it would be one ever again, but Sierra's got a point in that you're seriously lacking in the fine clothes. You weren't joking about these being your best, but the clean shirt and trousers are far better suited to the back room dealings and dark alley shakedowns you used to engage in, not a high end political dinner with some of Shirahoro's Elite. If there's one thing you remember from your etiquette training, it's that embarrassing your host is very stupid, usual singular mistake.

So, with an overly dramatic sigh, you open your mouth once more, "You happen to know a good tailor around here?"

Sierra's just about doing her best impression of you, given the way her green eyes light up in amusement and the smirk painted across her lips only widens, "I just so happen to."

There's little else you need at this point for another trip through the streets, as you simply grab a dozen or so gold coins from your recent job's pay and head downstairs to gather your coat. Neither one of you is particularly insistent on modesty nowadays, but if you stayed up there while she's getting changed there's a good chance that neither of you would be getting anything done today. Not the worst issue in the world, but with this party only hours away time is of the essence; meaning your essences need to remain separate for now.

It's not long before Sierra comes down the stairs as well, clad in a modest coat of her own that falls to just above her knees, those long, toned legs covered by a set of dark pants that you can see fill in the gap between the coat an a pair of leather riding boots.

Arm in arm, the two of you walk into into the frozen streets of the Earth District.
>>

As it turns out, the shop Sierra knows is just on the edge between the Earth and Water Districts, down a side street that you've never even bothered to look down before. There's various artisans along the smooth cobblestone street, mainly painters, though you do spot a sculptor and weaver, but eventually you do come up to a small, out of the way shop, a few display pieces of higher-end clothing, both in Western and Eastern styles.

"Kyoko introduced me to this place; it's actually where I got that dress for the party at Hotel Cardinal," Holding the door open for her, the elf steps through first calling out, "Caren! Are you available?"

There's the sound of various bits being moved about from the back of the shop, which you now note is almost filled to the brim with fabric and thread. Any further observations are put on pause as a short, bookish-looking woman with a pair of round glasses that she slips onto her face before stepping out of the back room, "Sierra? And this is?"

"John, this is John." You nod along in introduction, "We're here for a set of fine clothing."

"Ah, another party," Caren looks almost bored, but you note the glint in her eye as she looks you over, "So, what are you looking for?"

Your response?
> Standard Western Three-Piece Suit; if it ain't broke.
> Eastern Formal Wear; whatever that might be.

Currently catching up in the archives. Should I read the crossover stuff? I'm not much of a magical girl fan, but I want to catch up on everything important before I start participating in live threads.

Thread #28's introduction includes a short summary of the events of the crossover, and the rest of the story for that matter. If you're not up for reading through the entirety of the crossover, you can skip it over.

some small arms might be a good idea to have on us. maybe we can even forge something classy looking that is a disguised weapon.

Gauss cane.
>>
>>3169629
or, if we had optical weaponry: a monocle with concealed laser weaponry or a clock with a miniaturized clockwork gun or a chainmail t-shirt made from our special alloy or a cane blade with included taser or some other trinkets with included mana batteries to power shield runes or ...
There are so many things we can do!
>>
>>3168805
We are westerners, its what we do.

>>3169629
I like the idea of gauss cane, but i don't know how that would work.
We do have weapons that can go from one form to another, so its possible. But we have a time honored tradition of "Twist the cane head, pull out a rapier" then challenge the ruffian threatening the gent and his lady.
>>
Tesseract cane with integrated grenade launcher.

Although that would be impractical for indoor use.

By the way, have we ever tried to pur a living thing into the lockbox? did Sierra know if we did

Looking about the shop, you don't see any other examples of Western Formal wear being either worked on or available for purchase, but considering the display out front you imagine your request won't be an issue, "Three-Piece Suit, Western."

"Gray, Navy, or Black?"

Her immediate and unflinching response is a pleasant surprise, for once, "Gray. This isn't a funeral."

Caren hums before looking over to Sierra, the elf motioning towards the bookish woman in a faux-conspiratorial manner. Adjusting her glasses, the tailor reaches behind the counter to collect a yellow measuring tape and a clip board, turning to you once she stands back up, "Come then, I'll take your measurements first."

The process is rather quick and too the point, as Caren directs you to help her get the proper measurements, some of which give you pause. You're not certain if you had another growth spurt or if you really just were that malnourished before arriving at Shirahoro. Once shes done, the lady tailor sends you out while she works with Sierra. Given how you're not made to wait long, you figure Caren's got the elf's numbers already down.

The tailor requests a few hours to complete your desired clothing, during which the two of you grab lunch. The snow's lightened up at this point, though the clouds above still threaten further precipitation, but it does make the messy streets filled with people easier to navigate.

When you return to the tailor's shop, Caren's just finishing on some stitching along the shoulder of a gray dress jacket. She runs her thumb along the fabric before hanging the finished article of clothing on a hanger. It's pushed into a black clothing bag, a twin to it siting beside it on the counter, before the bookish woman smiles at the two of you, "You have good timing, just finished the adjustments."

"Thank you so much, Caren," Sierra gives the tailor a quick hug across the counter, "I swear, I'll stop by one of these days without a rush order being involved."

You can't imagine she minds, especially given the price you agreed on for the clothing.

> You have lost: 2 Gold Coins!

Gathering your purchases, the two of you head back through the streets of the Earth District to your shop. Stepping inside, once more kicking the snow from your boots and coats, you bring the fine clothing upstairs.

You still have a few hours until the party starts, so it's only a question of what to do until then.

Now what?
> Work on a project in the workshop/forge (What?)
> Timeskip until the party

And ask if serria wants anything made, we should consider what she would like, if not made now then as a future gift idea.
I don't think she would like a necklace gun...would be cool though.
>>
>>3181045
Say, does Lily have any equipment with her? We could forge her a sword or shield as a welcoming present.
>>
>>3181045
Given our track record of parties, a concealed weapon seems prudent.
Also ask Sierra if she wants something, as >>3181055 said.

However, given that this is essentially still downtime, we can take it at leisurely pace, especially considering I’m not sure if we could manage to put too complex machine quickly enough anyway even if we went all out.
>>
>>3181243
Speaking of Lily I suppose another alternative would be taking another trip to town before the party in attempt to find her. Preferably with Sierra, even though splitting up would allow us to cover more ground.
>>
>>3181045
>> Work on a project in the workshop/forge (What?)
we should aim for concealable weaponry

Pocket Watch Grenade, and a Sword Cane with in-built pistol.

we are a low sanity genius with a primal force of chaos at our beck and call, who is fucking an elf and created tech that should only be restricted to the "haven" [assumed facist] dictator states that would kill/torture whoever touched those files without permission.

I think we have left "normal" behavior at the door a while ago, and this is just johns inner creativity telling him to work again.

What do you mean, sudden. We’re going to a party in high society. Do you know how last party of such nature we’ve been to went?

this:>>3181055
a thicker than normal handle could easily double as a magazine holder for guass rifle rounds. The bullet cartridges of it shouldn't need to be long either since part, or most of the propulsion comes from the electromagnetic coils in the barrel section.

In fact, even a disguised silencer and pop-up laser sight could be added for more features... Then again going too far makes this party seems like it should belong in a James Bond movie.
>>
>>3182873
One really wouldn't be able to blame us if you take into account the last time we were at a high society event.
>>
>>3186084
james bond is smooth, professional and dangerious, like us.

Though he is really fucking promiscuious, has a habbit of being tortured and captured, and in craigs run a substance abuser......Hmm, could we take the good and leave the bad?
