"Skins, Holy skins of Kyth. The backbone of Thernn must be properly regulated. The Matriarch trusts us in ensuring its constant flow. Our economic superiority shall be rivaled by none!" -The Minister of Rancid Finances

Welcome, Curious friends!

What else is more enticing other than exploring unknown vast seas of a mechanical goddess as a sea captain? Nothing , i wager! Hunt, Trade, Steal, kill. Consume delicious cogs, the world is yours!

The sea and the powers that governs her are mostly uncaring at best. A Scrawny fugitive, A Peerless Prince...all are at the mercy of the sea. Your sea captains will probably die whether from a string of horrible choices or plain old bad luck. You are a fragile little thing (Most of the time). Keep that in mind.

Alas, our last divinity-seeking captain has perished. We are to choose a new Sea captain down below.

A descendant of the ruling immortal Matriarch, you spent the earlier years of your life pampered by your rich family in the highest district in Thernn , your window over-viewing the sanguine throne in all of its glory. When the news of your ill fate has reached the Matriarch, she had to act 'for the betterment of her bloodline'. You were exiled from your birthplace, never to set foot on Thernn ever again. An ungraceful exit.

Your people, The Humms, control most of the sea under Kyth, sprouting colonies, Unbroken naval forces and so on. Few can match the iron will and fist of your Bloodline. The capital city of Thernn reflects their visage of greatness; giant sprawling structures, Smoke-spewing factories churning all sorts of goods...all the technological wonders are born here.

Still, The Matriarch has her share of the poor and the unwanted. Her rightful campaigns of much desired expansion has bled her city dry, Not that you care about these worms and their sufferings. You have your own blight to deal with.

You stand in the docks already longing for the luxuries you are leaving behind. A company of Bloodcoats were guarding you and your belongings. You don't want one of them filthy creatures approaching you. At least your crew are not some pot-bellied , scurvy riddled, hardly washed sailors like most in the docks. They were in the navy . Strong ,disciplined and obedient.

The Pale officer did gave you some book on how you can be a better sea captain. He said it was a gift from one of your late father's friends. You gave him a venomous smile. Is he trying to taunt you? You should have him fired. If only...

>Your ship awaits you.
What a pitiful thing, Is this the best the Matriarch can offer???

>One last visit to the sanguine throne.
You may meet up with the Matriarch herself. Scorn her for this unwanted exile.

>Spend what little skins you have on luxuries
Perfumes ! Dresses! Oh you shall miss this place dearly.

>Talk a stroll to the cleaner heights of Thernn
One last time.

A past left behind

Damn this city and Damn the Matriarch to oblivion. You are leaving, never to return.

Your crew was patiently waiting for your arrival in a neat row like how they should be. One of those devils , Men of fire, hellsman is your First officers. Yes, The Matriarch has dug deep enough in the sea to expose a new civilization of fire and horns unaffected by the world outside like those wretched Ashen. They are possibly the most worthy of rivals to Thernn. The Conflict is still ongoing in some crater far to the west in an undecided status quo. The devils can't sink the iron line around the crater and the brave soldiers can't capture the beating heart in the center of the crater.

"Greetings madam, We are bound to serve you as long as we live and breathe." The devil bowed, embers flickering from his eyes "Does it offend you? I apologize if i wronged your title."

You have gained a first officer:
The Charred Devil
+4 Iron

>It will do
Nothing to be angry about

>I prefer your highness

"Very good." The devil politely replied. He had a small cage with a little something inside " Madam, This is your guardian, It shall protect your vessel from Time dilation . Is it to your liking?"

Ah yes, the fabled mistake of the vacuous Cage, the god of time in the sea. You had little knowledge of how it works (despite it being the center of your father's research) but as far as you understand it, time is more distorted on sea compared to that on land. A single sea day might take a whole week on land. These so called guardians protects ships from said time distortion. No one with a sane mind travels without them.

Now , what was that little thing inside?

A rancid ball of fur

Wait, Is that a bloody cigar in his mouth? The bat yanks the devil's finger with a small growl. Your first officer squeezed today's newspaper through his cage "His previous master taught him some bad habits. He is still a fine guardian, Madam."

You rolled your eyes in disappointment. What's next? A honey-trailing slug? You would have throw it off your shop if this thing wasn't useful.

You demanded a full report on the ship before anything, In mere minutes, the charred devil had to the following to say:

The Alabaster (medium ship)

A medium sized naval ship fit for gruesome combat in the sea. Heavily armoured at the expense of both its maneuverability and cargo hold. With a decent speed , two side weapons , a front weapon and an auxiliary soother it is a worthy to take on harsh foes in the sea be it of flesh or steel.

Hull: 200/200
Crew: 50/50
Soul Crates: 10
Supplies: 15
Cargo: 25/40
Pages: None
Guardian: Dubious Bat
Dilation: 0/150 (Your body is intact and safe.)
Madness: 0/150 (Your mind is intact and safe)
Weapons slots: 1 front weapon (occupied), 2 side weapon (occupied), 1 auxiliary weapon (occupied)
Skins: 10000

Equipment

Engine: Celestial devourer
-Very small in size, requires at least 5 crew for full speed
-Above average speed, can only be fed with souls.
-Low Soul consumption, will never overheats
-If no soul crates are present, it will devour the souls of everyone aboard.

Front weapon : Melthila's Glory (10 Shots left, 10-15 Damage vs Beast, 20-25 Damage vs Ship)
-Fires a powerful short ranged shot, more effective against smaller ships
-long reload time, inaccurate, low rate of fire.

Auxiliary weapon: Celestial soother
-Consumes 1 soul crate per shot
-Gives extra threshold for both dilation and madness passively
-Will calm down beasts only if shot. Does no damage
-Long range, Very long reload rate, very accurate, very low rate of fire

Side weapon: Northern Bilestar x2 (30 volley left, 1-2 Damage vs beast , 2-3 damage vs crew)
-fires hundreds of small pellets which can cripple most ships killing their crew without damaging the ship itself , little effect on beasts
-Medium range, very short reload time , irrelevant accuracy and very high rate of fire.
-Can consume pages for different results

Cargo [25/40]
- x10 soul crates
- x15 supplies

This tiny cabin is fit for your servants not a woman of your stature! Your nobility demands the best. You curse the Matriarch under your breath. You don't know how but she will pay for this.

The ship was ready to go. Everything was set, only your command was missing.

>Set sail!
Make haste to the station!

>Interact with your guardian
How dare it ignore your presence and read the newspaper like so???

>Converse with your officer

On literary pages...

They are snippets of a time bygone containing enough emotions to alter and bend nature and time. They are used for various purposes across the sea. The most powerful of these pages are hoarded by the Matriarch. The ones who wrote them belonged to the outside world, perished and forgotten.
>>
>>3170632
Set sail, time is fleeting.
>>
On Seafaring...
There are three important resources for any capable sea captain:

Fuel (or in this case Soul crates) : The first choice for most roaring engines. Going at normal speed will increase the chance for different encounters across the sea, Full speed decrease the chance but consumes more fuel and make engine prone to overheating.

Supplies : For the empty bullies of everyone aboard, more crew means more supplies used. It has other uses too according to the present circumstance.

Crew : The working force of any ship , they can board other ships if given the command. Lower crew means a slower, more vulnerable ship
>>
>>3170574
I wanted to go into the ship to get a hold of our resources. Can we get back to the Port an announce to the winds that we are parting towards the Station? That way, we will be able to use the time the passengers get to get in the boat to get a cook to give us extra heart.
>>
On Old and New Gods....

The divines can not really perish, Their essence is often fragmented unequally. All shall form what was whole eventually. Such is their nature.

There are four (five) gods of the sea, they are:

Kyth : Although the goddess of Glass and Obsidian is dead. She is still worshiped as a whole, she has no real power to project. Her Manifestation only exists in a pitiful state.

Skull : He who governs gentle tides and smooth sailings, He bears no ill towards the children of the sea. Calm, Benevolent and Cautious, Skull is the least destructive of the gods. Scholars, Sailors and many more seek his wisdom. His ire is to be avoided; gentleness is not a sign of weakness...

Cage : Vacuous, Mournful, Yearning for what she used to shelter and protect. Cage Governs time in the sea. She is the most unpredictable, Almost all of her undoings are yet another mistake. She is the strongest of all gods but she often misuse her authority unwillingly. Madmen and some barely intelligent creatures are often her worshipers with absolute variance in power.

Spine : Order, Just, Righteousness. These words defines the goddess of authority. She governs the unspoken laws of the sea, often bickering with other gods of what should be and should have been (especially Knee) She is hard to please and quick to anger. Spine despises change, Her agents will hunt down any who dare to bend her laws. Traders, Law and power figures follow her words. They are equally rewarded.

Knee : Chaos, Bloodshed, Suffering. Knee revels in the innate cruelty of the sea. The corpse of Kyth is her battlefield. She will not rest until everyone is dead. As such, she is the most destructive of the gods. Extremely easy to please and anger. Soldiers of fortune, pirates and the bloodthirsty kill and pillage for her pleasure

You don't really care for skins as a payment..The reason of such an announcement was to have someone by your side even if this was of temporary nature. You are quite a chatty type, the idea of lowering yourself to burly crewmen for a friendly chat is unfathomable.

Dried tears

Four hours have passed, You were admiring the heartset in the horizon...the heart of Kyth is the sun in this sheltered domain. You can't imagine what an actual sun looks like. Historians of old describe her as a round ball of light in the skies spreading unnatural yellow rays. what a horrible imagination.

Finally, your two men have arrived with a Mournful aristocrat in decent attire and a single briefcase. He looked like one of the associates of your father always begging for skins in on way or another.

"Afternoon, your grace." at least he has some courtesy to recognize your royal hair colour. The Matriarch made sure to neuter anyone with different shades of red hair. It is a privilege for your bloodline only. "I wish to depart to station Lune as soon as possible; my...daughter..." his voice trailed off "The Celestial engine has claimed her soul in an unfair bargain. My sweet lavender is not the same anymore. I beg of you, take me there post-hate. I'll give you 1000 skins for it."

The Celestial engine. The sole company in all of Thernn legalized to deal with souls. How can the Matriarch herself respect Moth-Child of a director? why does he need all of these souls in the first place?

>Allow the Mournful aristocrat to board your ship for free
The company of old men is not something new for you thanks to your father and your husband

>Ask for something more valuable than pitiful skins

He was puzzled by your request , he did speak about the dirty circle of attorneys he is often engaged with. So many cases of debauchery among those in the upper echelon of society. On Oddities and Afflictions...

The sea has its shares of mysteries and secrets, some may not be grasped by hands. Stories, tales, visions and many more are all oddities . They can be used for more peculiar trading, unlocking unseen paths to progress and so on. Some of them can be traded with an officer for a better teeth, eye, mind...etc.

Afflictions are all sorts of harm bestowed upon you. Most can be simply dispelled by resting, others require a different approach, few are permanent. Some Afflictions may increase on their own if left untreated.

Mind the Sea, captain. Have enough physical afflictions and your body will hold you no more. Have enough mental afflictions and your mind will belong to Cage.

hopefully the bold font wont get fucked like last time,

30th of December, 1792 PK (Post Kyth) The Alabaster had set sail from the busy port of Thernn for the last time. Station Lune is your destination.

SD-1 (Sea Day) : The Coast is black, tarnished by black progress, never to fully heal. Nature is only a mean for advancement, why should anyone give her a thread of concern?

SD-2 : Your Dubious bat had woken up you in the middle of the night, its long finger pointing at a single word on an old newspaper: Doom . You had this nasty balled [+5 Madness]

SD-3 : Your passenger spends most of his time reading book with an old hand pipe. Not that much of a conversationalist. Curses.

SD-4 : The Great walls of Thernn (or the Seven Mountain wall) cast a great shadow over hostile waves. It was built the only legal form of slaves in Thernn : men of stone, they are barely functional constructs meant for free labor. Their payment is of rocks and pebbles. Despicable things.

[/b] Ambushed! [/b]

The man's flesh twists and turns, his skin was torn exposing a horrible Sea-mimic! Sharp tendrils bursts from the carcass piercing several of your men!

"Leave it to me, Madam!" Your first officer grows infernal talons as he drew his sword, embers dancing on the blade in anticipation. Hints of black fire crackling inside his mouth.

A thundering volley of small pellets shredded the mimic and the small boat to naught. Not a single trace remained. Yes, yes, it was quite a wasteful endeavor but you don't care. The beast is gone. You can rest now.

His posture remained the same " During the first contact war in '23, The Matriarch gave an order to kidnap more of my kin for various purposes. Experimentation, Interrogations and other nefarious deeds. I was lucky to be a halfborn of a Humm father and a deviless mother, spared from the horrors of Throat Keep."

His fiery eyes flickered of unspoken regret "I was born to serve the Matriarch and her iron will. When i came of age, I was asked to prove my upmost loyalty to the sanguine throne...by murdering my own mother in cold blood when she couldn't bear any more soldiers for Thernn. I proved my worth throughout these years and here i am, serving you. My brothers and sisters are scattered all over the colonies. If we are fortune enough, we can meet one or two."

The man of fire further spoke of his kin. He said he actually can't partake in the ongoing conflict; the rivaling heart in the crater is a dangerous thing to halfborns like him. Years of loyalty gone in a blink. He better off serving the Matriarch somewhere else.

Your first officer excused himself to attend to the ship. You gave him said permission to do so.

A pleasing afternoon

"Oh, what is this? Your guardian?" The Mournful aristocrat shared what he was reading with the flying vermin. At least it is more pleased than before.

When the skies grew dark and the heart of kyth stopped beating, your guardian drew some sort of a map on a layer of dust pointing the location of an isle. It then proceeded to write her name : Sungraves .

You were tempted to read the book but your arrogance prevented you for flipping a single page. Who is he to dictate your lack of skills in an aspect or two? Its knowledge, whatever it may be, is forever lost to the sea. You feel much better afterwards.

Throat Keep

SD-5 : An uneventful day, You practiced your marksmanship on seagulls seeking respite on your ship. Clearly you need more seagulls.

SD-6 : There it is , Throat keep in its full glory. The resentful home of your blightful sister. Sprawling Greystoned Towers, screams of traitorous bastards echoing from half sunken cells and a thousand cannon fending Thernn from any and all.

In an ironic twist, The high warden of Throat keep is the last living member of your family. Your father rightfully disowned her for bedding a filthy ashen soiling our blood. How did she made it to the top of the keep without any influences whatsoever boggles your mind...was this another spiteful move of the Matriarch? Can't be...your older sister has been the high warden for over two decades now. Heartless and cruel this one.

On the horrors of the sea...

The Sea, has nothing natural about it. It is the flowing blood of a dead mechanical goddess. Madness will plague the minds of you and crew the further you stay away from land fighting sea beast, delving into the unthinkable etc. Lower your madness by returning to ports and other relaxing interactions. Don't Lose your mind.

Dilation is how the sea alters your body. It has very slow buildup compared to madness. Time works differently in the sea...a constant state of Dilation that can turn a single Sea day to a full week on land. A ship's Guardian negates most of said alterations but not all of them. To undo the effects of Dilation, Rewind your body via Time-menders who are commonly found in ports or find a Time Splinter across the sea. Don't Lose your body.

>>3173157
Furthermore ,Each single land day while docked = -1 madness passively. (in most ports anyways)

A Thousand curse upon her! You will ignore her and her little sty she calls a keep! Full speed ahead!

SD-7 : The shadow of the keep taunts you, you spent the whole day inside the cabin.

SD-8 : Some crew gathered around the mournful aristocrat for a sea story. A tale of a younger fisherman who fell in love with a She-beast in his nets. It ended with the death of ... who was it again?

You woke up from the sound of a familiar click...your safe! One of your crewmen is carrying a load of YOUR skins! Your keys dangling from his pocket. You couldn't just waltz out of your cabin ill-dressed, you hastily worn something decent before bursting out to the main deck.

You caught up with the burglar. He slowly turns his head towards you, his very eyes shine a blue light. He opens his mouth exerting a great effort to form a coherent word "Spine's will...Spine's will..."

Station Lune

Two sea-weeks later, you are finally closing in on another property of the Celestial engine. There were a couple of smaller ship guarding the station dearly with advanced weaponry capable of perhaps sinking the Alabaster in one blow.

The station itself was built on a strange platform ; a cascade of Soul-fused concrete and steel with a will of its own. Whenever a wave or two threatens the field of peculiar flowers planted all over the station, a wall would be erected in a blink. Of course, protecting some flowers it not its original purpose.

The Mournful aristocrat approaches you, he looked visibly troubled in his next demand " You have provided me a safe passage and a good company, i am more than thankful for both but... i fear my words alone might not be enough to sway those soul-hungry fiends. You have the blood of the Matriarch running through you. I...i only ask you to accompany me in my plight. They may listen to me when you are by my side."

>Refuse his demand
Go save your daughter on your own pace, I have more troubles to deal with

On Land Ventures....

Much like the sea (and everywhere), time passes on land. A regular land day or two will consume 1 supplies most of the time (There are exceptions where food is aplenty on land or there is no need for it). The shadows of your crew will follow you in silence automatically for hauling new goods, assembling newly bought ship parts and so on. Their only real palpable presence is within encounters that require combat (You can also choose for them to stay on the ship, your choice).

You can have 1 officer (or guardian but it is situational and dangerous) accompanying you on land. Note that they may alter some encounters for better or worse so choose wisely.

"I swear on my life that i shall repay you whenever you ask for it." His old crumbling face was albeit brightened, a glimmer of hope shining in his eyes.

"Madam, If i may. The pale office appreciate any report on any port one can visit. While we can not return to Thernn herself, you can submit it in any of the postal offices scattered across colonies. This is a sure way of earning skins and supplies without resorting to...other distasteful means," The Charred Devil gave you an advice that you might consider in the future.

The port was silent and foggy, if you hadn't known better, you would say it was outright abandoned. There was a straight path to the sole building in the artificial isle guided by flickering lanterns shining through the night. What a desolate place.

You don't know how but you felt a thousand dagger in these whispers. A Helpless pain, neutered to almost nothingness.

An image of a large furnace of glass strikes the back of your mind like a mallet... The Kiln .

What? Why do you have a vision of the home of skin wearers? The once sworn enemies of the Matriarch, they spend the rest of their miserable lives in fear; They know what Thernn can do to their kind. Their glass corpses are still hanging by the thousands like a lifeless chime. A former shell of themselves.

From the thin air, A woman of stone appeared out of the sudden. She...didn't look like most of her kind. Something didn't feel right about about the symmetrical diamond shaped holes carved in her orbs and where her mouth used to be. Was she watching you this whole time?

Many showed themselves as well, all of them were tuned by the Celestial engine to be silent and ruthless watchers. Your company had their hands on their swords and rifles anxiously.

"Gentlemen, Gentlemen. The Celestial engine bids you welcome. We had a... slight inconvenience to deal with, our apologies." A headless man greeted you with an open arm, he had just come from the building, running.

"The Blood of the Matriarch in our hold? It is truly a pleasure." He kneeled before you, folding his right arm while extending his left. An ancient way of greeting the highborn " Have you come to admire our Soul-rich flora? We take great care o-"

You dismissed his flowery talk, you were dizzy and perturbed. He insisted on delivering some exotic food to the Alabaster as a small token of your arrival. You only cared for resting in your cabin. Other tasks can wait.

"That will be 2000 Skins or 20 crates of souls." A rather high price for admission. Regardless you paid for it in skins.

The staircase has ended revealing a large waiting hall filled with the ill and the sickly...mostly old men of different rich backgrounds. All colours of races sat in comfortable chairs waiting for their turns while listening to a classical Humm music.

A once apprentice

You found an empty seat next to a strange Ashen. Curiosity had overtaken you, the next moment, you have found yourself speaking to her. She had a silver puppet cradled between her arms, its eyes were a bottomless pit.

"I-i spent my last skin coming here. It is my fault, really. I got too much attached to my sweet Edward which got me fired. My master said that my passion will bleed to other puppets making them unsuitable and faulty. These puppets are not just mindless automatons or toys. Their spark of life is a brilliant thing. I suppose I will pity my way back to Thernn...or somewhere. I pray you have a far less of a problem than mine, My lady."

You had one of those as an amusing pet. You threw it in the fire when you got bored of it. It just sat there with a melting smile. Good times. Those silver puppets are fashioned far away using a living metal. Not Soul-infused ones, actual real metal carved from a giant husk. A man of iron. The silver coating makes the puppet more obedient for one reason or another. The Matriarch tried to militarize them once but they were simply too pure for combat. At worst, they will prank the foes in the most harmless way.

A response

"That is horrible!" She exclaimed "I lost my family too...well, i-i think i have. They have been locked in throat keep for nearly thirty years. I have already accepted their loss at this point."

They must have some done something horrid, being ashen filth. You were proved wrong "The last shipment of silver puppets was missing a few when it reached Thernn. My family were the first non humms to craft puppets , The blame had to fall on someone. I was in the hive at the time so they couldn't blame on me as well."

You felt uneasiness creeping inside "I hold no grudge against you or any Humm. I-i mean, it won't bring them back from the dead. I will continue to live as happy as i can with Edward " The naive ashen smiled " Do you think they can buy my tinkering set for skins?"

Away with her

"O-of course." She muttered "That would be for the best." You left her, the idea of having a mistrustful outsider in the Alabaster is a horrible, horrible one. Everyone shouldn't have faith in men and women who suddenly came from the outside world by means unknown.

A shriek has suddenly erupted through the two-faced door leading to the Ill-Masked Shaper. Minutes later, A headless employee came out of the door with specks of blood on his attire. He 'deeply regret' to inform everyone that the Ill-Masked Shaper won't be accepting further patients today. He has offered either a refund or a day's worth of accommodation until they start running again.

Naturally, this has angered many around here. The headless took a lot of pressure from everyone who vented their anger and frustration on him. You pelted him with curses of your own.

Your eyes were later fixed on the Kythian amidst this chaos. She hid a smile. Was she involved somehow?

On her tail

At first, The Skin wearer bought some light snacks then she had a lengthy conversation with a Wealthy Couple who was absolutely fine with this abomination walking about. She took a room but didn't stay there for long. She went to the restroom for an hour, then another and another. You finally caved in and entered there yourself only to find her waiting for you.

"Well Darling, I appreciate you following wherever i go. Do you want an autograph? You could just ask."

She was just as confused as you were "You seriously don't know me? The Glass Herring? The finest restaurant in the hive? I am the prime Chef there. Ugh, You call yourself a royalty and you haven't tasted a single dish of mine? Absurd."

In your defense, you haven't set foot outside of Thernn before " Do you have a good reason to stalk me, then ?"

An Item of some worth to certain collectors. Of little use otherwise

You spoke about your ship and how great would it be if you had tasted a dish of her tonight "Normally, I am not allowed to cook outside of the Glass Herring; not even for myself. You understand contracts and all...however, you have a little bit of the Matriarch in you. The old coot STILL refuses my letters. No offense of course..."

There was a pause, the Kythian was still considering your offer "..fine, I'll be by your ship in a few hours. Only because I haven't tried cooking a mundane meal in a damn long time. I am getting tired of all exotic dishes i have to come up with. It is a chore."

The Banking lobby was at least thrice as large as the waiting hall with rows of counters as far as the eye can see. Luckily, you didn't to wait long for this one.

"Soul crates are readily available in all of our stations scattered all over the sea. The nearest one is station Montse to the east. Major cities like Thernn, The Hive, The Kiln and some colonies have more of our shops too. Few traders have the privilege to sell our goods in desolate isles where it would be inefficient for the Celestial Engine to set shops there. "

You gained x10 soul crates (total 18)

" She snickered clearly enjoying the gauntlet of naval eyes around her.

You enter the galley when the time comes. Lots of pots bubbling greatness, better than anything cooked on the Alabaster so far.
"Do you like what you see? Of course you do, you would be blind not to." said the Kythian while stirring a delicious mixture "Say, Could you introduce me to that roguishly handsome devil? You woke up feeling better, not by a huge margin. It was good enough for you to walk on your own. Looks like the crew will spend the whole day cleaning the drunken mess of yesterday. You don't have it in you to bark at this and that in your current shape.

Your passenger was more than happy to get off your ship. Every step of his is fueled with unseen determination. You wish your father was someone like that, He offered your the world but little time he spent with you. You cherish those few moments deeply.

This wasn't the aristocrat's first visit, he knew what he was doing. Unlike you, He bought a ticket to the bank for a hefty sum " Their manager has little time for chat. Let's go. " He explained.

And so the waiting begins. A handful sipping tea and reading the latest news in a small room at the far end of the lobby. You better wrap it up quickly, you don't want to miss your turn with the Ill-Masked Shaper.

His words were full of desperation "I...we will never get her back. They clutch to souls like a child and his new toy. Oh my sweet Lavender. I...i have failed you. I.." The last of his tears was in his palm. You (and other sympathetic customers ) tried to calm him down. A bit of false hope is still hope. He had the look of a man who had already lost everything, scouring for anything that might give a meaning to his life.

This time has come. The secretary has opened the door revealing a twisted domain, An silent Apocrypha of forgotten records and literary pages drifting around a small island of shifting marble blocks with face gasping for sweet air.

The heart of the island had a woman of stone, similar to those you saw outside but far more cunning. Her office was of White Moth constantly flickering its wing in a dazzling manner.

"You have five minutes. " Her voice came from nowhere and everywhere.

Three minutes

Your words did little to pave the path for the Mournful Aristocrat. The Desk of Moth swallowed whatever she wrote in that paper, She slowly turns her attention to him " This whole establishment is built on souls. Your daughter knew the risks before signing the contract. Her soul is legally ours. We are not responsible for any current soulless side effects."

You saw a man begging on his knees garnering no sympathy for an automaton of stone. She sighed, seeing this act as a waste of her time "A moment please."

One of the marble blocks opened its maw revealing a pure essence, cold, yearning for a body " Your daughter's soul remains intact as you see. Our director sees more inherit value in her. She is not for regular consumption at the moment. "

You held his arm restraining him for embracing his sweet lavender " The Celestial empire does not accept mere compensation. If you desire her soul, you must offer something...far more greater. Your soul , a lifelong servitude and a debt of 10,000 skins should suffice. The Moth-Child is always pleased with more attorneys. Do not negotiate terms with the me. We are both above this. "

The words are at the tip of his tongue. No price is too great.

>Remain silent
You have done enough

The words has been spoken. A new contract is sealed. "Thank you for your cooperation. Your Integration shall begin immediately."

Ashen welcome

"O-oh, Hello!" She waved at you avidly "I hoped i would see you again. I did actually but you didn't notice me. Your were following that scary woman..."

She pointed at the Kythian nervously for a split second "I wouldn't lie, The room they provided easily tops anywhere i slept in for month. They have actual bed and no rats whispering misintent to your ears! I-oh.." She stops for a moment "I am sorry, my lady. I shouldn't bother you with my nonsense. I am lucky to have you speaking to my rabble."

The Ashen spoke of the incident yesterday. She said someone was trying to kill the Shaper! Or so she heard. He or She have clearly underestimated their foe. He who can bring life can also bring death in a multitude of forms.

You have gained an oddity: x1 Conspicuous Rumor

"It is my turn, Off i go!" She left her seat with haste. Not much is left now.

The Usual

One more expedition lost in the azure Jungles of Vuuld. A Serial killer remains uncaught in the Sungraves. Another ridiculous new law imposed by the Matriarch and an honest warning for captains in the eastern corner of the world: The sea bubbles with red...Knee seeks blood.

You have gained an oddity : x1 Recent news
Not so recent with the continuous sea dilation but it will do. Welcomed by all.

It was finally your turn. The door opens revealing another domain of black and frigid ice. Warm on touch with a thousand mask whizzing in the air, all were trying to reach the silent tall figure in the room: The Shaper himself.

He wore a simple black robe. Nothing was natural about him as he swirled back and forth in his place like a thrown rag doll. He continues to reject each and every mask slamming into what you call his face. He finally settled with one, that of the fabled sun with its impromptus light , It bled golden strands coiling and covering his frail body from head to toe.

The masks went silent, retreating further into the black ice around you. You have failed to notice the two headless standing idly to his side, they wore proper medical gowns. Assistants perhaps?

" Regal , I honour. I cure, always have. Regal " He bowed. Your ears ringed from such a booming voice,

"Please wear this mask, Madam. He will speak directly to your mind this way." One of the headless had a blank wooden mask for you with no features.

>Of course
Awfully dull for a mask.

Darkness

You put on the mask and the world was gone. No noises, No lights, nothing. You were just a tiny speck in the void. The Shaper has revealed himself from the unknown . He thrusts a black dagger into your chest gutting you like fish but it didn't hurt...in fact, you felt relieved for a brief moment before the pain would return upon an abrupt closure of your wounds.

The Shaper is intrigued, he removes his masked for another of liquid black flames. He set you aflame, your charred flesh is a momentary bliss. Then it returned to it former state: Anew and withered with pain.

This went one for a while, each harm inflicted by a different mask get nullified moments later. The Shaper went for his original mask, his voice booming even in this realm " Regal , Trust. Faith, have in I Regal "

He digs his hand into your chest, pulling out your black heart in a brutal manner. You scream in howling pain. Yet your heart bleeds flesh, then bones and skin....

Another person: You

The other you screeches in defiance twisting the Shaper's arm. The void around you is starting to collapse.

>Do nothing
....

>Charge at yourself, meet her bottomless eyes
....

>Lunge towards the Ill-Masked Shaper, He wants your doom
.....

>Pray to a god of the sea, make this nightmare end

>Think of the wooden Mask, Pull it out before .

Conflict

You feel every bit of harm inflicted on your doppelganger. She is far more stronger than you but you persists.

Suddenly, A beam of light blinds you. Back to the real world with the two headless drawing their weapons against you. The mask was shattered. The Shaper on all four with a cracked mask.

" Headless Begone. No ill is Regal upon me. Headless "

The Dyad unsheathed their weapons, they helped you to get on your feet before leaving. The pain inside continues to manifest itself, you draw blood from your lips clutching to your black heart.

Your Affliction: Regal Curse has changed ( 2->3: Your heart has stopped beating, black blood is keeping you alive.)

Your have lost 1 heart stat! It is now at -2, each heart challenge will have a -20 penalty.

" Matriarch , No curse. A gift, i see. From another time, A blessing. It came. Beyond Cage's Domain. Frail body weak. Can not contain immortal soul. Matriarch " black worms seeped from the crack in his mask.

>Ask him of a cure
I don't want any of this! Heal me!

>Ask him a question
He is weakened. Each word uttered comes with some effort
A Tongue challenge

>Call him a liar, a hoax
You should have known. What a waste

If this fails, we could maybe try to sell this soul to the bank to free the mournful guy? A unique immortal soul should count for a lot, and maybe they can get it out of us.
>>
>>3179619
The clue is in what he called us. We have the same immortality curse as the matriarch. The problem is that our body is too weak to handle it. But if we asked him how to strengthen our body we might fail the challenge and lose everything. So I don't know what we should do right now.

" Matriarch . Sorrow. I stand with no cure. No body can house. No body to strengthen. Moth-Child a dear friend. Grief is to hide a soul so precious and powerful. Matriarch . " He leaned on a pillar of ice to stand up " Matriarch , Bearer of a secret. Hidden. Many claw for immortal soul. Seek Path of time. Time before or after Cage across the sea . There, immortal soul came, Matriarch "

Objective: Learn more about Time outside of Cage's Domain

Time uncontrolled by Cage? The idea didn't resonate with you. Whoever instilled this curse in you bought it from time unbeknownst to Cage.

The Ill masked Shaper has nothing more to tell or give. Not a single hint on where to start looking. Certainly not here. Before you would leave, He summoned a headless employee from the floor whispering something to her. She turned to you "Follow me, madam."

She led you to a seemingly dead end before ringing a small invisible bell. You sense some sort of a presence but you can not see what or who is in front of you "Not many have an access to our exclusive wares. I have been asked to sell you one or more vial of Cage's Blood with a one time only discount. Each vial shall cost 3000 skins. You can purchase it later from any station.."

Your third ticket for the day had a different two faced door. A spiral of stairs later, it led you a large underground dockyard with a giant floodgate leading to the surface. You must be on the far side of the island.

Things were more hectic there, certainly not a place for a lady like yourself. Most of the workers here were men of stone supervised by more headless. You only have enough breath to browse once before diving into your bed. The ticket didn't have a number, it was more of an unneeded formality to let you in. "Hello customer: woman. We sell." A rigid man of stone greeted you, he was bound to his chair long enough for some fungus to grow around his chair. Ah, now these are the men of stone you are accustomed to; servile and with a smudge for brains not like that horrible, horrible manager. They had the following for sale:

A New Dawn

Your morning had a delightful surprise. Apparently your loyal first officer has refused the many advances of the Glamorous Cook. No wonder she was fuming the last time you saw her.

One of the crew had brought a newspaper for your guardian. You had him scrape the ship from outside for doing so behind your back. A behemoth of a ship has docked close to yours bearing the same insignia of the Matriarch. One of the few Flagships outfitted with the latest weaponry available. What is it doing here? A ship of that magnitude has to be commandeered by someone of your bloodline.

The Vermilion Navarch

Turns out, It was not an easy task ; after a thorough search , only you were allowed to enter the flagship unarmed. The lowest of their crew dressed better than your first officer. This was to be expected.

The captain's cabin was more of a throne room. Overly opulent and extravagant , Abundant with dozens of trinkets and trophies of decades in the sea. Their sea captain was a polite woman, a healthy one unscarred by the burden by leadership. Burning scarlet, Her hair is more lively than yours. One of you.

"Ah, so you are the one who got exiled from Thernn. You don't look too rabid to me. I would write a letter to the Matriarch to reconsider but you know her...Most likely she forgot about your existence in the first place." said the Vermilion Navarch, her company of officers retained their statute-like expressions " The Iron line has been broken and so she sent me to regain naval superiority around the devil's crater. Do you have any business with me? Time is of the essence. I stopped here out of necessity."

>Speak of your blight
Maybe she will help you further.

Leaning of time

"Not much i can help you with directly." She stated "If it is time you seek, Speak with any time mender or any sane follower of cage." She cracked a smile; cage and sanity are rarely used together. " Heart's Shadow may have what you are looking for but the heartbeats are too much for that plank of wood you call a ship, it will tear you asunder . Buy yourself a heart-worthy vessel before approaching the heart."

Heart's shadow. The lawless land below the heart of Kyth. Once the home of men of glass, now rightfully under the Matriarch's sovereignty.

She had little time for further chatter, shortly afterwards, She was to leave the flagship for an unknown pressing matter. You thanked her for this valuable information.

A gust of fire

The charred devil nods, leaping to the skies. Screams echoed in the air, wings were torn apart. Corpses were fallen into the sea.

The enemy ship has lost x7 crew (total ???)
You have lost x2 crew (total 34)

A shell would have landed in the center if it is weren't for the roaring engines, the souls whither and wail inside the devourer before its expiration. Still, Your ship didn't remain unscathed for long. A vile torpedo causing a small breech to the side of the Alabaster. Not strong enough to sink her that one. The ones below deck are already seeing to it.

You lost 7 hull points! 160/200

The charred devil had dropped with a horrible thud. Alive, but riddled with bullets and mired in the greenish gray blood of his enemies "I..see, their ship. East.."

Men of fire are not easily downed. That is why they have been a thorn in the Matriarch's side for so long. You thanked him for his show of valor, two crewmen have dragged him to relative safety below deck. The mist has thinned, the flying foes have cowered back to their ship, bullets behind their wings after this glorious display of your first officer. The Battle now beings at earnest.

You see a small ship made of nothing but junk and scraps, their forward weapon ,a mortar, is now useless since you have closed the distance. Their torpedo launcher must have been installed in the front has well. You see no other weapons on board. And you thought you were fighting a lion, nothing but a despicable flea. They might be considering to retreat after they had lost the element of surprise.

Burning Sea

Melthila's Glory bellows once it was within range, her wrath strikes at the side of their ship, a lucky blow to their failing engine. The Alabaster had to endure another torpedo for a wrathful volley of the Northern Bilestar; her pellets had decimated an acceptable number of the Kerkit pirates. A small ship like this shouldn't have many living crew left , you would wager.

Drowned

"Madam!" One of your men yelled " A little child in the cold sea!" You saw the aftermath of a transport ship torn part fairly recently. The shadow of the beast responsible still lurks down below. A small child (hard to tell whether they are a boy or a girl) clutches to something of note refusing to let go. Their skin belong is bloated and pale, lifeless even . The water around them is all muddy and black. They refuse to listen to the shouts of your foolish crew.

One by one, the lurking beast drags the floating corpses to heartless depths. When it was the child's turn, The giant tendril hesitated by a moment choosing to retreat silently away from them. The Humm child stared at you with his emerald eyes unshaken by their current ordeal not moving a single limb towards the safetyh of the Alabaster.

Abandonment

You told your men to ignore this trickery. Who knows if the child is actually a real one, not some conjured hoax. Onwards, you say!

Luckily, the sea beast chose not to follow your trail; mayhaps it had its fill with the poor souls it swallowed. The child continues staring at you, their bright eyes still shining in the darkness, you swore you almost heard a faint echo lingering over silent waves...that of a single word: Mother.

Station Monste

The next station of the Celestial engine was truly something else, for one, the western half of the station was shelled to oblivion by vile Kythian weaponry. Their prime flagship, the Vieer, possessed unique shells that with would blight any piece of land forming a cancerous crystalline growth. Fatal to any non-Kythian. The tiniest of these particles can regrow to its original size in a matter of seconds.

Thankfully, The Vieer used this kind of shells thrice: One here where an experimental weapon was being built, one on a once precious colony of the Matriarch and the last one was on your future destination: The Sungraves, barely missing the holy Carcass of one of the Kerkit ancestors.

A lot of tents were erected haphazardly on the eastern half with only a small building in the center. The port had small offices as well.

Once you have docked, a swarm of creatures were already waiting for you. All of them were these Verminian creatures, mainly rats who gained sentience by Cage in one of her many, many mistakes. They are of various shapes and size, all are forbidden to set foot in Thernn, the only rat-free city in all seas.

"Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome! Celestial cursethechildcursethebloodythrone engine welcomes you!" The tallest (and most sane) of them squeaked, an onslaught of words never to stop for more than a few second "You have come to cursethechildcursethebloodythrone station Montse! Are you here for our endless auctions? Many days to stay, yes? or are you just resupplying? One bad day? You work instead? Work day? Quick! Speak, speak , speak , speak , speak...."

Exorbitant

"Ah, yes, yes, yes, yes.. manwomanthing. Take this! Take, take, take, take!" He kept hopping until you took a small pamphlet. You read its contents.

"Dear potential customer:
The Celestial Engine is terribly and woefully sorry about any potential theft, injury or death which may happen upon your visit to station Montse.

While the Verminians here do work for us, they are not legal representatives of our company as a whole in any shape or form. They were introduced here as an expendable labor to contain the crystalline growth but we have underestimated their breeding habits. They have overran the rest of the station while failing miserably at their original work.

The silver lining here is the auction house built by their kind. First as a mean to dissolve any dispute without chewing one's adversary to death. It has gain enough traction for us and the gracious Matriarch to legalize it. You can offer an item of your choosing or partake in the auction itself!

Due to the large influx of our customers, we are forced to charge for docking due astronomically high upkeep prices. Please oblige to these prices and do not let any of them tell you otherwise:

-Work day: free ( for a single day only unless you have one of our contracts)
Speak with our representatives in Station Montse for further tasks.

-Resupply: 500 skins (a single day only)
There are few services here unfortunately. You will find more services in station Lune to the east.

-Auction: 100 skins (per day)
Where you will have to wait to gain an entrance to the auction house / to wait for your item to get sold.

-Tent: 1000 skins
A tent will be erected where all of your belongings are safe as long as you don't remove the rotten cheese wedge.

-Verminian guards: 200 skins (per day)
An assortment of Verminians (the ones standing before you) will protect you from any pickpocket, soul-theft which is unrelated to our legal businesses and the occasional shiv for no reason (highly recommended)

-AuctionWorkResupply for 5000 skins
A golden ticket, provides you with an unlimited stay and freedom (for a full week)

Please keep your ticket with you at ALL times for you safety.
"

"Yes,yes, yes, yes?" Another Verminan showed himself from this pile of fur, he was almost wrapped up with tickets waiting for your reply.

"-rsethechildcursethebloodythrone, YES! YES, we store skins, eat brothers, EAT!" in a blink of an eye, 300 skins were gone. "We auction for a single one, one day! Hooray!"

"We guard yes? We protect yes? Can we kill for you, please, please please?" Your head was already spinning from hundreds of Verminians talking at the same time. One of them showed you a crude map of the station "We can explore heap while waiting, yes? yes?"

The head of your +50 guards called himself 'Skin'. He should be the one taking commands from you.

Unbridled Mayhem

"Sell? Yes,yes we go to, to, Rat-i-ling. We will protect, you are safe, safe, safe..."

Everyone was running amok, it was common to step on Verminian corpses and other filth. The 'cleaners' only bother to visit the area once a week hauling rats and unfortunate customer corpses to the heap. You saw one of them, a hulking Spinebound , a skeleton with no flesh prone to unwanted nibbles and plagues. He was the first one you saw in flesh (bones?)/ Again, the Matriarch has no stomach to have the unnatural in Thernn. Some colonies have these walking bones, however.

Skin told you more about his kin, they constantly have to talk or they will literally die. As such, they can't sleep which adds more insanity in their ironic existence. Their lifespan ranges from a few hours to a couple of weeks at best. There are some few notable exceptions: The High Verminians are almost Humm-like in age and behavior.

Your are lucky to reach the Rat-i-ling office in one piece. It was a small metal shack with a hatch leading to an underground depot. It had two high Verminian ladies both baked in embellishments doing their hardest to hide their hideousness under layers of white and red. They were seven folds your weight with rolls of fat squished to the walls.

"Auction! Auction! A-" A smallest of your guards were skewered with a the sharp and bloody end of a large pen, casually swallowed in a single gulp by one of them "Oooooh, sister look. A red womanmanthing!"

"Yes,yes! Oooh what sort of magnificent one-of-a-time item do you have for us?"

You had both the cask and the unprocessed skin at the ready. Both started to die of laughter, their rotten teeth at view for the whole world to see "AAAAHAAAAHAHAAAAHEEHOO! A bloody cheap wine for auction?!!!! 40 skins??? 100 SSSKINS?!! The worst kind even!!!! AHHHAAAEEHEOOOO!"

"And a bloody notauction too! Very bad for business, manwomanthing! EEEEHEHEHEHE!!! Bloody throne no like, see, SEE?" Her eight fingered hand clutched to an endless list of illegal goods.

"No matter, no matter.... WE FEAST ON YOUR FACE! " Without a single warning, a swipe of her claw tore through your clothes and flesh. You recoil back, witnessing two giant Verminians lunging towards you in a flurry of paper and blubbering fat. Your guards draw their tiny swords or bear their teeth, they will defend you no matter what.

You have gained an affliction : Injury (0->1 a wound of sorts. Non threating at the moment but can progress further if left untreated

>ESCAPE! FLEE!

Your guards have lost a handful against a flood of other Verminians frenzied by a drop of blood. The customer targeted pulled out a twisted ivory dagger from his pocket slicing through hordes of teeth and claws until he simply vanished from the scene.

Skin has died, he was stomped to death by his kin during the fight. His successor , Tail, was heavier than him and slightly less intelligent, she raised her chubby arms for you to take your spoils.

Some skins were expected...but what is this? A small notebook? these are code-names, coordinates and date encrypted...a Thernni spy? Yes, The Matriarch has been using subterfuge more frequently; some wars are not exclusively fought with iron might.

A Careful Mother

The strands of floating webs continue to slow the Alabaster. There shouldn't be any serious threa-

You were wrong.

You just happened upon a small Silkship , a vessel for Aracnii mothers to protect their fragile eggs. You saw it in the museum of unnatural history back in Thernn; once the agile father has done weaving a feeding nursery at the shell of Kyth all the up way up, He would drop a precious strand of silk for the Mother to attach the cluster of her offspring. No predators to be found at the edge of the sane world.

The father would spend a decade lifting this strand with his upmost care until the cluster has reached its withered arms. Their children would feed on the corpse of their now dead father plus the contents of the feeding nursery (hundreds of mummified sailors , fish and ships)

A Spiderfall is their rapid descend to the sea like beastly rain where the cycle begins anew. Both the Silkship and the cluster of eggs are very precious. She not will easily give up on them.

A horrid experience

Like a gentle flower, the Silkship opens in an unsettling but majestic show, the cluster of its owner is slightly bigger the Alabaster. The mother connects the cluster to the strand tightly. Off they went in a peaceful twirling motion.

Exhausted from months if not years of preparation, The mother surrender to her grim fate after one last ear-shattering wail. You and your men clutch to your heads, this pain was not meant for you to hear. It was as a twisted way of cursing the gods for separating her of what she loved and worshiped.

You have gained an oddity : x1 Dreadful Recollections
The dark bowels of the sea have no place for the faint-hearted, These are memories of things that shouldn't have been seen or heard

The once beautiful, immaculate Silkship is now torn and useless, it sinks to bottom of the sea with the corpse of a spent mother. A nightmarish feast for some below...

we will probably be better in a new thread, i am making one + making new pastebins. i got a couple of questions for all of you before starting:

Have you participated in the first thread?
What do you think of the ports we have been to so far (Lune, Sungraves from the first captain and Montse)?
Do you prefer the Languid Noble or the Dream scarred prophetess and why?
How are the sea encounters? what would suggest to make combat better?
how are we doing? do you have anything to add on any aspect of the quest?

1. No i just caught this thread amd have been participating ever since

2. So far i like all of the ports, they are unique and interesting. I enoyed the rat one especially.

3. I prefeer the languid noble. It feels smoother and fits out current character better. Mabey if somthing big happens we can switch

4. Sea encounters are fun, combat mechanics are always difficult but so far its been good just keep any ideas open for refining it.

5. I think we are doing well, sad we didnt go for mad murder round 2 and we have bascially spent all our skins. Im kinda confused as to why the untreated skins didn't make it in the aution

Bonus questions
Does the Languid noble (and her ship) has a definable playstyle?
Do you feel somewhat railroaded? or do you feel aimless and without focus?

auction deals with legal items only. Also Station Montse was barely explored so who knows what was missed

1. We seem to bs agressive and haugty with the expectation we will win so we never really act too cautious.

2. So far it seems fine we arent to lost and we havent really gone against the grain yet so i dont know if we are bing railroaded at all.
>>

1. Yes
2. The ports are unique. But still, how do cash in the port reports?
3. I prefer the languid noble. The Languid Noble is a well formed character (arrogant, vain) with clear goals. The prophetess feels lost at times.
4. Sea combat is okay but as we play on there will be more suggestions on how to make it better.
5. We're doing pretty well. Starting with a medium ship and lots of money helped.
>>3189470
6. Yes. Sometimes we are too arrogant for our own good.
7. No I don't feel lost or railroaded. But I'm still mad the shaper worsened our curse and gave nothing in return. We paid 2000 skins for that. Should've demanded a couple free vials of blood for that.

normally through the pale office in thernn but since we are exiled, we'll have to use the post offices scattered across the matriarch colonies
blame it on the celestial engine not the shaper

good to know, we will start in~30 min
