This is it.

He’s right in front of you.

The man with the crooked nose.

The man with the bruised face.

The man wearing an atrocious blonde wig!

The man whose plan is to kill Constance: Kazuchika Storgaard!

He’s being checked out by that nurse with the long-haired hime cut who checked you that one time. You lock eyes with him, and the flame on his shoulder flickers rapidly. Does he sense anything about why you’re really here, or is it just an involuntary reaction? You’re fairly certain he didn’t catch you looking at his shoulder…

The nurse moves away from Kaz and gives you two a curious look. Kaz doesn’t seem to care under those bruises.

“Huh? You aren’t supposed to come in while we’re doing a routine checkup. What’s going on?”
“Ehm…” Henry takes a couple steps back to be next to you and elbows you in the side! “…Hey partner, why are we here again…?” He says out of the corner of his mouth, trying and failing to act casual.

You glare daggers back at Henry. Why does he have to go put you on the spot like that?!

Nina ordered both squads only to locate this man, and inform her as soon as possible. Will you have as free of a shot at him the second time around, or is it better to stick to the plan?

How will you act here?

>”Apologies, but this is the last room on the floor. Could you please give us room?”
>“Our mistake, ma’am. We’ll clean another one in the meantime and stop by soon.”
>Elbow Henry back, but harder! “Don’t do that, you dragged me here first…”
>Fuck this, attack Kaz immediately! Look at him! He’s not even expecting it!

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling over a 95 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 5 or under means a critical failure (only for hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

[Today, June 4th, 8:22 AM]

The Cult’s base hidden within the old 1-Plus toy factory. The underground prison section of the complex is three huge stories of catwalks, cells, stairs, cult iconography, and cold concrete. An unconscious, wounded, and tragically unmasked WILDFLAME is chained up in one of the cells. Outside, one of the air duct covers is busted open and two people crawl out of it carrying heavy backpacks of supplies:

Jaylene Larsen, a.k.a. Thug B! She was the girl who tried to kidnap Constance a long time ago, and the original partner of Welimor (who is currently with Lise).
Rhys Frye, a.k.a. Thug C! He was the terrorist Johnny managed to apprehend after the terrorist attack that happened downtown, also a long time ago!

“I-I have the key…” Jaylene moves closer to the cell’s lock and tries her luck. “C’mon! You can do this…!” She periodically lifts her head and looks out into the rest of the room, twitching in fear.
“There’s no one guarding here anymore. Those crazy fuckers went down with the tower, and the rest of ‘em ditched this place.” Rhys tries to calm her down. He looks at the ceiling. “…If we bust him out, he’ll help Oliver out for sure. Won’t he?”
“Charlie said as much, and I trust him.” Jaylene finally opens the cell, and the two of them unshackle WILDFLAME’s battle-scarred body from his fiendish chains! She helps the uncomfortably big man to drink some water out of a bottle she brought. “C’mon man! You can do it!”

…But WILDFLAME refuses to open his mouth. The lights in his cell are out and the lights outside it don’t reach inside. The very shadows act as his allies, guarding his identity!

“Damn this freak… We came all this way for nothing!” Rhys punches the concrete, hurting himself!
“Maybe he needs his mask back? He seems fine otherwise; I even saw him peek at us a little.”
“Why would that make a difference?”
“H-he’s a superhero! D-don’t you get it? His secret identity is everything to him!”

“What difference does it make if we already saw his face?” He stares at Jaylene for a while. “…Eh, fuck it, I still have my bike helmet. That should work.” Rhys pulls out his helmet from his backpack and places it on WILDFLAME’s head, activating him!

I’M BACK, CITIZENS! YOUR NEW HE—” WILDFLAME’s speech gets interrupted by Jaylene, who covers his mouth.
“Keep it down, WILDFLAME! We aren’t sure if someone’s still out there…”
“I told you, nobody’s in here…” Rhys reassures the ex-terrorist, but he still glances around the place anyway.
“My vision is blurred, but I will endure it for our safety!” WILDFLAME exclaims comically.

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that, big guy. Seems I’m not the only one having her own party here, hmmm?” A gypsy-looking woman appears on the other side of the hall! One of the members of the Assembly, codenamed ‘Strawberry!’

“I knew it. I knew it. I fucking knew it.” Jaylene is losing it.
“Citizen, I’m 100% sure my vision is not at its 100%!” WILDFLAME corrects the lively looking woman.
“You’re as dumb as the way you dress, big guy.” The woman walks slowly, almost casually strutting up the corridor towards the trio. “I’ll make it short and sweet, since neither of us should be here. Where’s that damn Judge? Spit it out quick kids, cuz I don’t got all day and the air in here is doin’ a number on my hair.”

WILDFLAME takes in breath so dramatically, it startles the ex-terrorists! Even Strawberry’s strut slows in pace for a moment! “My eyes have laid upon the truth! You are not a fair citizen of our beautiful city, but one of those scoundrels seeking to commit heinous acts towards the innocent people running the game — the same game I will be winning!” He stands up to full height and steps steadily out of his cell, chugging Jaylene’s water bottle in one go! “My goal of future victory aligns perfectly with my duty to protect the innocent!” WILDFLAME tosses the bottle aside and stretches his neck.

“…So I have no reason to hold back.”

“H-hold on, WILDFLAME. We need your help! Our friend’s in trouble! There’s four other Judges out there! Who gives a shit about this one?!” Rhys grabs at WILDFLAME’s shoulder.

WILDFLAME stops, grabs Rhys’ hand, and gently moves it away. “Sorry, little man. I can’t let evil stand in front of me and avoid punishment. Not if I have anything to say about it.” He chuckles and takes more steps forward towards the gaudy woman. “But fear not! Once I finish here, I will assist you later and show you the path to STARDOM!

“Silly boys, with their silly games, get silly hurt. It’s time for the Boss to slay you.” Strawberry puts a hand on her right hip and snaps her fingers. Her shadow on the ground raises up and becomes huge, growing a pair of creepy eyes and a white mouth!

The cringe is palpable throughout the hallway, as both ex-terrorists find these eccentric people just waaaaaay too weird…

[12:16 PM]

You elbow Henry back, but harder! “Don’t give me that shit, you dragged me here first…” You mutter under your breath.
“Fuck, that hurts!” Henry seems to be a little angry at you. Good.

You grab your ‘partner’ by the shoulder and smile at the nurse, along with her ‘patient’. “Please excuse him ma’am; this hothead has lost his composure. He’s new on the team and a bit too eager to do his job!” As you say this, you squeeze Henry’s shoulder to drive in the point. “We won’t be bothering you again!”
“Who are you callin’ a hothead, hothead?!”

What kind of retort is that? Why is this happening to you?! Why?!

“Please just leave.” The nurse has had enough – and frankly, so have you!

“Hang on a sec. Glasses, haven’t I seen you before?” Kaz asks you directly. Oh boy…
“Not that I know, sir.” You respond as you continue to drag Henry out.
“Do you frequent the local art museum?” He insists. “I swear I’ve seen you there once…”
“…I wouldn’t say so, no.” You lie through your teeth! Literally, you’re gritting them from how frustrating Henry is being!

“Yeah, just look at him! He may look like a nerd, but he’s no intellectual! He’s dumb as a brick! Like, really fucking stupid! The stupid kind that wouldn’t know art if it punched him in the face! Yep! Us janitors aren’t the brightest people, y-ya know?” Henry laughs.

You just want to leave the room already.

You’re pretty sure crawling into a hole and dying counts as leaving the room.

“Did you just call yourself stupid?” That poor nurse is more lost than you were at the panic bunker. You would feel bad for her, if you had any more capacity to feel bad right now.
“Hey kid, the man makes the job, not the other way around.” Kaz jokes. At least he’s taking it in stride and not catching onto your act! “Treat your mates with respect. When push comes to shove, they’ll be the ones there for you.”
“But all we do is mop the floors and—”

You throw your arm over Henry’s shoulder and put your hand over Henry’s mouth, getting him in an impromptu chokehold! “Sorry, we’re leaving! Have a nice day you two!” You finally manage to drag him outside and grab the equipment with you! The nurse and Kaz share a bemused look before you close the door behind you.

Outside the room, you continue to drag Henry along with you towards the stairs.

“What the fuck was that.” You ask the worst man you have ever seen under pressure.
“Ehhhh… I think we handled that pretty well.” Henry smirks proudly. “Weirding them all out always works.”

You have no idea how to respond to that, so you stare at Boopies instead. The cat meows, but doesn’t do anything else. You miss Bradford Jr.’s assertiveness. Definitely worth taking him to karaoke with that voice of his — if you make it through today alive!

You’re in front of the stairs now. To be able to see where Kaz’s room is, you need to cross the hallway and turn.

“I think we’re far enough away he won’t be able to hear us. Boopies, call Control Room B.”
“Meow…?” The normal cat just stares at her collar and randomly selects a button.
“Control Room B? Over.” You wonder if the cat got it right.

“No, it’s Control Room A. S’up dude? Ehm… I mean over.” It’s Yu Yan. Wrong number!

“Damn it, Boopies.” Bradford Jr. would’ve got this right the first time!
“Why are you blaming the cat? It’s just an animal.” Henry is pampering this damn feline!
Henry is getting a little annoying right now, but you think you shouldn’t get mad. He’s probably nervous too, just dealing with it in his own way. “Can you redirect me to Control Room B? Over.”

“Dude, I can’t do that shit from here. Just push the other button on the cat’s collar. Over.”

“Anyway, I gotta let you guys know we found the dude! Over.”
“Holy shit! Nice one, Johnny! Over.”
“…And Henry.” Henry nods to himself. Credit where credit is due, he did randomly pick the winning door. If it weren’t for him, you might still be checking rooms by now.
“Fuck off and die, Henry. Over.” Yu Yan will never forget being called Yupie. Not while you’re around!

“She’s right.” You say as you take the cat from him.
“What?! What’s up with you man?!” Henry gets offended. Again.
“Not like that. Go watch Kaz’s door in the meantime. We can’t let him realize what we’re doing and make a break for it.” You wave Henry away. “I got this, don’t worry.”
“Ugh, fine…” Henry trots his way there. You said quietly, but whatever. He puts his back to the wall and peeks from his side. Very safe.

“I’m changing lines, bye Yu. Over.” You stupidly wave at the cat. Technically Nina is the one seeing you waving and not them, but oh well.

“Bye, stud. And be careful! Over and out.” You can tell she really cares about you.
“…Did you just call Johnny a stud?” You hear Matilda mumble before the call cuts out.

You ask Boopies to press the other button, and she manages to understand your order this time! Good kitty is learning!

“Control Room B here. Over.”
“We found Storgaard. He’s in the fourth room on the second floor. Awaiting instructions. Over.” You explain without sounding too excited. The fears and stress of the past few days might be over soon… Your friends won’t be injured or killed. You’re gonna make it through this…!
“That was fast! I’m sending the other squad without Kata over there; do not move until they arrive. Is he alone? Over.”
“There’s a nurse with him, forgot her name. I sent Henry nearby to check for any movement. Over.”

“I’m gauging my options. Be honest with me, Johnny. How confident are you about sneaking inside the room with your ability, undetected? I want to minimize risks to people, and Storgaard’s power is not to be underestimated. Over.”

Nina’s right. This is the guy who can make broken things work again, and can magically fire an empty gun forever. Could he have smuggled a weapon into the clinic?

How confident are you?

>Very! You will be able to take him out, no problem! He won’t even know what hit him!

Sneaking into a closed room seems like a problem. He could sneak in as part of a group, but we don't know how long Johnny can keep his camo up. This is exactly the sort of thing we have learned to not jump headfirst into.

“It’s an unnecessary risk. Better to send everyone here and come up with a safer plan. Over.” Objectively the best course of action.
“Right, we’ll play it safe. Wait for the other squad to come over and for my next call. Over and Out.” Nina seems to be thinking up a new plan. Wonder how that’ll go?

You grab Boopies and the two of you go over where Henry is peeking.

“Any movement?”
“Nope. Nothing.” Henry responds, not even bothering to look back at you. He’s taking this more seriously than you expected. Maybe he really is just bad under that kind of pressure, but not this kind…
“We’re waiting for the others to come here..” You pass the info to the hothead. “Just sit tight and we’ll have backup.”

Eventually reinforcements arrive! Nariko and Osgood are here! They come up from the stairs behind you. Your hobo seems to be happy to see you, but Osgood is still in a foul mood. Nina already updated them about the situation, so no need to explain a thing! You haven’t received orders to move yet, but you can see the impatience growing in a certain cheater prince’s face.

“Let’s get in there now.” The injured Osgood wants to end this once and for all; he’s barely keeping his anger from going out of control. Kaz was the man who killed Bradford in cold blood, so it’s understandable.
“Hold on, we haven’t got the order yet.” You grab his shoulders. He coldly shakes you off, catching you by surprise!
“Then get on with it already.” Osgood is not taking anyone’s shit, not even yours. You stare each other down, neither of you budging an inch…

“I’ve already made the call, Gaumont. Control Room B will be the one to decide.” Nariko presses a button on the dumb-looking cat’s collar. “Ms. Uccelli, we have everyone gathered in position. Over.”

Nina’s voice comes through the speaker. “Everyone, what comes next could be either the end of today’s ordeal, or it’s true beginning. I need everyone on the same page right now, or our lives are forfeit. We have to be cautious for this, and for us to be cautious we need cooler heads on the case.” She sighs out in that same tired sigh you’ve heard countless times. “Osgood, I’m sorry – but I’m moving Richard to your position. Please head back to the bunker. The rest, wait there until Richard arrives and inform me if the nurse leaves the room. We may need Kata’s help to talk the nurse out safely without drawing suspicion.”

Nobody is surprised in the slightest, but Osgood isn’t taking it well.

“Are you fucking kidding me? You can’t take me out of here now.” Osgood is furious. “Not after I’m this close to him!”
“I genuinely fear for your life, Osgood. Your attitude lately has been worrying, to the say the least. Please, go back to the bunker now.”
“I told you I’m going to kill this motherfucker if it’s the last thing I do. And you can’t stop me.” Osgood starts walking slowly towards Kaz’s room.

“Hey, chill out man!” Henry grabs at Osgood’s shoulder. Dhrtarastra appears and shoves your janitor partner back! You grab him before he falls, barely able to keep your balance from the sheer force behind the push. “T-the fuck is wrong with you?”

“See? I can be a stupid motherfucker too.” Osgood stares dead at you when he says that. The idiot still blames you for Bradford’s death? You’ve already gone over this twice, what the fuck is he thinking?!

Osgood scoffs at you, turns around, and continues on his path. “I’m going in now.”
“Osgood! Please return to position!” An angry Nina yells from both cats, echoing the sentiment. “I repeat, return to position immediately!”
“I said I’m going. You can’t stop me. None of you can.”

You had everything under control, but this moron needs to throw a tantrum and ruin a perfectly safe plan!

How do you deal with this suicidal asshole?

>“Think this through, Osgood! Don’t put your life on the line for no reason. There’s a better way to deal with him, not like this.”
>”Osgood, listen to me. Let us deal with Kaz here, and I promise I’ll let you go at him as much as you want later. Okay?”
>”Bradford must’ve told him about you. He’ll know who you are on sight. Here, I got a better idea…” Go invisible with him!

“Think this through, Osgood! Don’t put your life on the line for no reason. There’s—”
“Man, shut the fuck up! You’re the worst person to say that, you scumbag.” Osgood has the balls to call you the scumbag here? Damn. Looks like you need to take another approach…

“Gaumont, do you understand there is no going back?” Nariko attempts to calm him down too. “Think about those who care about you. You could very well die.” She speaks from experience.
“There’s no one waiting for me, not anymore. And you know what? I like it that way. I’ll make him pay for what he did.”

Out of nowhere, you get another idea. If Osgood won’t listen to your reason, maybe his partner will?

“Hey Osgood’s partner, what’s-your-name! Are you seriously going to let him do this? Didn’t you talk to him about this?!” You know how to write his name, but no idea how to pronounce it.

“This is the hill I will die on. We will find a way to succeed. I have faith in this.” Dhrtarastra responds, even though Osgood’s actions are questionable at best. Despite the fact that Osgood willing to kill himself is what got him his partner, he still hasn’t changed.
“In other words, he’s more reliable than any of you have been.” Osgood smirks, as if he’s in the right.

“Keep it down, guys! Remember what we’re doing here.” Henry warns everyone while the scuffle continues, then tenses up, glancing at the patient room door.
“Osgood! Don’t do it! I beg you!” Nina has no other words to say. Her voice sounds so far away in the moment…
“Just fuck off already…” Osgood is mere inches away from the door!

Fuck him. If he’s this set on his path, you’re gonna tell him the truth whether he likes it or not.

Maybe it’ll stop him, maybe it won’t, but at least it’ll make your feel better about dealing with his shit this entire time.

“You couldn’t even kill yourself right the first time! You need your best friend’s murderer to finish the job for you? That’s fucking pathetic!” You put in all your anger and frustration into your words, making sure to keep your volume down! “Fine, go get yourself killed! We'll have great news for Ajna the next time we see her!”

The hallway goes dead silent. Nariko and Henry are frozen in shock behind you. Osgood eyes darken and he starts shaking. He grits his teeth and shouts at the top of his lungs:

YOU’RE DEAD MEAT, YOU LITTLE SHIT!” Osgood’s voice breaks as he starts running towards you, rapidly closing the distance! Dhrtarastra comes in ready for a tackle!

Philonune moves in front of you and deflects his charge. Neko will be the only one who you purposely let cheap shot you. “YOU’RE SHIT, SHIT, SHIT, SHIT! YOU DON’T FUCKING KNOW ME YOU BASTAAAAAARD!” Osgood is consumed by his rage, his face beyond furious. His partner continues to attack with punches and shoulder tackles, but Philonune blocks each blow as it comes.
“STOP IT!” Nariko shouts as her partner makes her entrance! They draw closer, but Henry grabs her and pulls her back!

But then, Patient Room 4’s door opens.

All action stops as the nurse and Kaz step out into the hallway.

“W-what’s happening here!?” The medic yells. “Why are you screaming in the hallway?”
Kazuchika Storgaard blinks a few times, then his eyes widen. “You…!” Without missing a beat, he pulls out his gun and pulls back the safety!

He’s ready to shoot!

(Success! It’s a good roll! Remember critfails only count for Hard Rolls and above!)

“Guys, duck!” You leap back to protect Henry and Nariko! Philonune should be able to block or deflect the bullets, you think. You never practiced that or know if it’s possible, but come on – he’s a big fallen angel with a couple thousand years of fighting experience! Nariko also uses her partner to shield you guys alongside Philonune. It’s time to find out if your partners can stop bullets!

Kazuchika Storgaard fires his revolver twice, sending ear-splitting thunderclaps ringing off the walls, then fires twice again.

The bullets don’t reach you. They aren’t even aimed your way.

They’re aimed at Osgood.

One bullet lands in his leg and the other in his shoulder. The other two shots miss him completely, landing away from you, Henry, and Nariko.

“GYAAAAAAAH!” The nurse yells as she crouches with her eyes closed. She must be deaf being that close to Kaz firing. You can barely see some red trickling out of her ears…

…But Osgood stands up anyway as if he didn’t just get shot twice. With his partner now summoned in front of him, he slowly walks towards Kaz.

“Heh… I finally have you, you piece of shit. I’ll make you pay for what you did to him.” Osgood’s anger redirects to a more fitting recipient: Kazuchika Storgaard. The old man can’t believe his eyes, taking a full two steps back without realizing it. The supposedly handsome man should be in agonizing pain, but Osgood’s maniacal expression says otherwise.
“D-don’t move another inch, or she’ll be next!” Kaz grabs the poor innocent nurse by the neck and holds the gun to her temple. Gradually, he backs towards the fourth patient room, the same way you dragged Henry out not so long ago.

Osgood smirks wider. “Like I give a fuck.” The prince of madness steps up his pace!
The old man’s eyes glance around him briefly, then he pushes the nurse into Dhrtarastra’s path! He rushes through the door, closing it behind him. The entity casually backhands the poor girl so hard she files back towards you! You react quickly and grab her midair with Philonune.

Meanwhile, Dhrtarastra crushes through the door effortlessly, and the two idiots follow in close pursuit. If they’re throwing their lives away, it’s none of your damn business now.

“This fucking maniac.” You grumble in impotent rage towards Osgood, already inside the room with the Assembly leader. It’s his fault this innocent nurse got attacked.
“Is she okay?!” Henry is worried too. The Nurse is unconscious now, and probably has a bone broken or two after that mean blow. You can see blood coming out of her mouth and ears.
“I-I’m just playing as nurse! I’m not actually one, honest!” Nariko doesn’t know what to do either.

You hear more gunfire coming from inside the room. You also just noticed Boopies escaped from the scene, but not dumb cat. He’s too dumb to be scared. You will have to rely on him now…

“We need to take her somewhere safe! The patients need to be made aware of this!” Nariko is trying to save lives.
“What?! The hell are you talking about?! Osgood’s in trouble! Let’s go!” Henry invokes his partner, ready to go in.

You need to make a decision on what to do next!

>Use dumb cat to call Nina! You need instructions and backup. Anyone will do as long as Constance stays safe.
>Tell Nariko to take the nurse to safety! You and Henry will chase Kaz and Osgood. Are they still inside the building?
>Tell Henry to shove it, and drag everyone to safety! Osgood made his choice. It’s not your call to make anymore.
>Write In.

Richard can solo guard Constance's room easily. He can hold the door closed and use a roomful of objects to fuck with anybody who gets that far. Lise's ability isn't a combat one. Neko's ability isn't a combat one, except with a lot of cats.

The only viable option for offensive reinforcements is Amelia.

[Today, June 4th, 9:12 AM]

At the Majestic Red Park of Pokyo Lokyo, another fight draws to a close. A bunch of policemen are being destroyed by the one man army known as “Marcus Sanchez,” better known to Johnny and crew as “Barry the Hobo.” He’s using, yet again, another entity that looks like a snake. As the park quiets down, a red beam of light extends from the false eclipse above towards his pocket. Barry has won this battle.

“God’s law rests above yours, heathens!” Barry makes fun of the fallen policemen, in his own way. So many unconscious bodies lying around. Some of them luckier than others. “This is what happens when you defy His will!”
“Good one, Titan!” That’s 7W157! He’s crouched on a branch near the top of a tree, alerting Barry of possible threats. “Federiel would be proud of us, I know it…” The kid gets a little sadder remembering his fallen partner.
“Federiel was a good soldier for our cause. He will never be forgotten, as with the brothers and sisters who preceded him.”

“…If that’s true, then why’d you call ‘em ‘brothers and sisters,’ huh?” 7W157 can’t help pointing that out. Looking around, he does a double-take in one direction and points at it. “Hey Titan, we got incoming! 6 o’clock over there!”

“Hmm…?” Barry turns to see his four new opponents; three members of the Cult and this little group’s leader: Valdemar Bruun. The same man Johnny beat while unconscious during the clinic fight with Flint.

“Give the Crystal piece. Now.” The brooding teen orders in his tired monotone.
“If stealing the jewel is your mission, then God’s wrath will befall thee.” The tall hobo holds up an unconscious policeman. “Witness the punishments I’ve delivered on these lawmen. You think me easy prey, as they have?” Barry summons his snake entity again, preparing to engage!

“You’ll find out.” Valdemar raises his hand and manifests the three eerie birds around him. The three other cloaked cultists shudder in response…

“You got this Titan! I believe in you!” TW157 whispers out. Barry nods slightly, acknowledging the support…

[Today, June 4th, 9:13 AM]

“TITAN, NOOOO!” 7W157 screams as Barry collapses on the dirt. Then he covers his mouth after realizing he just gave away his position.
Valdemar takes the crystal piece from Barry’s pocket. “Grab the kid too. Let’s show him we don’t treat traitors kindly.” The edgelord orders his men to chase after poor 7W157, who is jumping from tree to tree.
“AAAAAH!” 7W157 begins his escape, leaving Barry the Hobo behind…

“We need to call Nina for instructions before rushing to do anything. Cat, call Control Room B.” You don’t want to call him dumb, because that would be rude. Nariko and Henry both nod, accepting your decision.
“WOOF!” The cat barks and calls the correct room.

“Control Room B… Over.” A deflated Nina responds. You didn’t expect her to be this way, but it doesn’t matter now!

“Nina, we need your help. Osgood chased after Kaz, this nurse here is injured – we have no idea what’s happening in there. What do we do?”
“I… I…” Nina is stuttering. You hear her slap herself. “Richard is moving there now. I need one of you to evacuate with the injured nurse, then move back to bunker level to cover. Who’s up to the task?”

“Nariko can do it. We got this.” Henry responds to Nina.
“…No. I refuse to go back. Your ability is basically useless for this. I can capture Kaz or Osgood no problem as long as I reach them.” Nariko refuses to budge.

There’s no time to deal with this arguing right now! “Nina, who we send back?” You defer to your ex-girlfriend for a definitive decision.

You hear gulping noises from the speaker, then something slamming onto a table. “Henry, you’re moving out. I think your ability can help the nurse. I’ll tell Kata to wait for you on the first floor. Johnny, I need you to sneak in unseen and scout the place for me. Nariko, stay back and cover Johnny. Richard will arrive any minute now. Please be safe. Over and out.”

“…Good luck you two.” Henry uses his partner to carry the unconscious nurse. He leaves down the stairs in short order.
“Be careful too.” You call down to Henry, trying to sound reliable and shit.

You’re stuck with Nariko now, facing the unknown.

“Are you ready?” Your masochist OG hobo asks you.
“I am.” You adjust your glasses.
“B-be careful.” Nariko clutches at your shirt. “Who knows what could be in there?”

You move away from Nariko and go chameleon… invisibility… whatever it is!

You carefully move towards the doorless room. Peeking inside, you see a trail of blood with different bullets scattered all over. It grows larger and larger as it moves away, eventually becoming a pool under Osgood. He’s hanging onto the window frame, facing away from the door. The idiot has way more wounds than before… so many holes all over his body. A wobbly image of part of Dhrtarastra is still visible; his giant arm is floating in the air next to Swiss Cheese Prince.

You fear the worst. Did his ability turn off? Is he okay? Is part of his ability?

Either way, you wonder where Kaz might be. Could he be outside? If that’s true, he should be barely hanging out there, if not four stories down already. Osgood being on the window frame is a definite sign of something…

[1:38 PM]

You decide to remain invisible for the time being, moving towards the window slowly to avoid dropping your power and feeling sick – though seeing Osgood in that state is already doing that. Reaching the window, you spot Kaz on the ground near the street, slowly limping away from the clinic – he looks injured, but not the fall damage type of injury. Seems Osgood managed to leave his mark on him.

Osgood starts coughing up blood, even though you’re pretty sure he didn’t get shot in a lung, not that you saw. But it doesn’t matter, there’s still hope! Nariko can help him get medical attention! You need to get him out fast before it’s too late!

You begin to drag him through his own blood trail, seeing no way to remove him otherwise. The blood continues to ooze down his body, adding to it all.

“Who’s… moving me…?” A weakened Osgood gasps out. His eyes remain shut.
“I am. I’ll get you help.” You whisper as you invoke Philonune for help. You drop the invisibility now that there’s no use for it.
“Leave me… chase that bastard, please…”
“No, fuck that. He’s not doing too great either. Besides, we’re in the clinic, you’ll be fine.” You pick up the pace, trying not to think of his internal bleeding. “Dr. Calamity can bring the dead back if he wants, I’m sure of it.”

Osgood smiles and tilts his face up at you, pointing at the side of his head with what little force his broken arm still has. There is a gaping hole in there you didn’t notice, going clean through his entire head… You can barely make out some pink and gray when the light shines in, and part of the floor past it…

“Sorry man, I don’t think I’ll comeback from this...” Damn you and your damn puns Osgood. You look back at the window and see Dhrtarastra’s arm wobbling in place, as some of it starts to dissipate the same way Blake’s entity did. “He’s down there… shoved him… Managed to grab something... Pulled some kinda knife…”

“Keep your energy, man. C’mon, hang in there.” Nariko’s outside. She can help you do something. “Nariko?! NARIKO! Get in here! Osgood needs help!”

“W-what happened?!” Nariko enters without hesitation; she gasps, taking one horrified look at Osgood’s body, then snaps out of it instantly. “Ms. Uccelli! We need a doctor right now!” Nariko uses dumb cat to call for help.
“I’m sending Kata up there! P-please tell him to hang in there!” Nina’s voice breaks as the call ends.

“Hey you two, it’s alright…” Osgood is barely breathing. “I can’t hear Dhrtarastra anymore. I think he’s giving his energy to… keep me alive, or some cliché bullshit like that.” He coughs hard, splattering more blood over him and yourself. “What a dumbass…

“Because he believes there’s a chance! We have fucking magic on our side, man!” You remember how you were after Neko stabbed you, lying there with the doctors around you. “They fixed me back up! They can fix you too!”
“Help will arrive any second now!” A hopeful Nariko tries to encourage Osgood too. Yeah, that’s it. Any second now…

“I have a hole through my fucking brain. I’m a dead man. Just let it rest…”

And it’s true. Richard finally appears to the great disappointment of you two. You need medical attention, not a murder investigation!

“Where is he?” Richard gets straight to the point.
“Dropped him from the window…” He coughs hard again. “Go chase him already, you fucking dick…” Osgood responds to Richard, who goes to fulfill Osgood’s dying wish.

“I know what you’re thinking. You think I deserve it, right? For everything I did.” Osgood smirks ruefully. “You think I’m a retard for walking up to a guy with infinite ammo too, huh…?”
“No…”

With what bit of strength he still has, Osgood shakes his head. Stuff falls out of the hole in his head. You ignore it. “But I do… I don’t think I met a single person… who ended up better because of me… Ruby, Mom, Dad, Bradford, Craig, Sewel, Conti, Ajna… and even you Johnny.” His face contorts in pain. “ I know apologizing to everyone now doesn’t mean shit… But fuck me, I swear I tried to be good… until everything I loathe about myself came back to bite me in the ass again… I couldn’t change… and it hurts.” His whole body goes limp, and all the air leaves him in a sound you don’t want to hear again.

Those were his last words. Osgood Gaumont is dead.

The flame on Osgood’s right knee shatters, and the fragmented remnants of Dhrtarastra float down towards the bottom of the clinic…

Unknowingly to Osgood, even after all he did, you do consider him your friend.

[1:49 PM]

He shouldn’t have gone far…

“Nariko, let Nina know what happened. Have her send Amelia. I’m going.” You place Osgood’s body to rest on the floor.
The tears don’t stop. Nariko is in no shape to acknowledge you, but that’s fine. You leave dumb cat next to her to make the call. Even though you don’t want to disturb her, you pat her on the back and leave the room. You don’t think Nariko’s crying got any harder, but it felt like it did.

Kaz was limping away from the clinic, trying to escape. The window led out to the main street. Shouldn’t be too many places to go through.

You make your way down the stairs and out. An odd quiet hangs over the city, and the snow keeps falling – 8 rays of light come from the covered sun, pointing to the multiple crystal pieces. One appears worryingly close to the clinic…

“He fled there. That alley in front of you.” Philonune gives you direction, same one the light is pointing at.

You keep running and running… A left here, a right there… The red streets of Pokyo Lokyo all look the same, a forgotten neighborhood starting to turn a new leaf. Even if the entire city is tainted crimson, you can recognize his trail on the snow. As the alley comes to a halt and the open streets start, the blood trail ends.

“There. To your right. Don’t stop.” Philonune points out the blood, barely visible now.

The blood ends, pooling under one of the old emergency exit ladders you are now very familiar with. Looking up, you can make out the rest of it from the ladder’s rust and the Crimzone’s coating.

There is no time to lose.

While you climb, you notice you’re nearing where the beam of light ends. One story away from the top third, you go chameleon and slow your ascent, trying to keep quiet.

Reaching the snow-covered roof, you witness Richard taunting and mocking a defenseless Kaz. The old man tries to reach for the door to escape inside, but the detective keeps pulling him back to the middle. Kaz’s weapons, a short-hooked hand pick and his gun, are on the ground far away from reach.

You’re a bit late; Richard has already assumed complete control of the fight.

His ability completely hard counters Kaz’s – he can’t use broken machines if he has none in reach. They’re too busy wasting time throwing shade at each other to make any drastic moves. The old man’s right arm is a limp noodle after what Osgood did to him. He throws himself at the door again, trying to reach it with his good arm...

The ray of light doesn’t seem to end up here. It ends right next to the building. Oh well.

[Today, June 4th, 9:58 AM]

Inside the Channel 11 television station, on the 25th floor main news set! Standing by the windows and entryways are various members of some Special Weapons And Tactics team. Despite the gear they’re packing, they don’t seem to be part of any sanctioned military force, completely lacking emblems or insignias or anything to identify them. They’re more akin to a terrorist squad.

Jeremy Ness, the government shill news anchor, is tied up and visibly beaten. He’s begging for his life.

The paramilitary leader turns towards the opening elevators. “Sir, we found this man sleeping in one of the offices. Aside from some security guards, he was the only one here. What do we do with him?” He prods the newsman a bit harder than necessary with his steel-toed boot. The mysterious arrival is none other than… Elicarto Lloydington, the presidential candidate!

“F-F-For the record, that was my office you’re talking about!” Jeremy Ness won’t stand for that provocation… until he realizes just who showed up. “Y-you! How is this possible?! How did you escape?! That prison is impenetrable, just like El Macho’s defense against La Pared!”

“You and your bad pop culture references. See, this is why I don’t like it when sports newscasters get promoted to prime-time coverage. And who gave you permission to talk to me like that, hmm?” Elicarto smiles warmly at the reporter, but everything about the spectacled man oozes sheer malice! “I didn’t much appreciate how our last interview went, you know? You need to let your guests talk to get anywhere in a discussion. Very unprofessional on your part — and it seems you haven’t changed on that front.”

“But why are you here?!” Jeremy shrieks in confusion. “How… What…?”

“Once the red veil lifts, I shall deliver my message to the masses on this channel. Gordon’s channel. Uninterrupted. Unimpeded. Undisputed. The Gordon Empire will fall, and I shall rise! And this will be the first stepping stone on that glorious path!” Lloydington leans in close, not dropping his smile. “How unlucky of you to be here!”

Jeremy quakes in his boots, then his eyes suddenly light up. “…Oh, I get it. You want me to help you spread your message! I’m a very influential public figure after all, and I can take votes from Gordon easily! You can count on me, new boss!” He nods eagerly, grinning a wide smile.

Elicarto leans way back now, grimacing in open disgust. “…You aren’t part of my plans here. You’re a mere intruder. A fly on the wall. Unfit to even be a speck on my clothing.” He turns to the operators standing around, pointing a drooping finger down at Jeremy Ness the way someone would hold their finger if something dirty got on it. “Quit standing around. Dispose of him this instant. Now.

But the armed men don’t know what to do. With the Crimzone active, their weapons are only for show.

Jeremy squirms himself into a prostrating position, bowing his head up and down. “I-I’m sorry! Please, I’m just a mere reporter! Spare my life! I swear I will dedicate all I have to help you convey your message! My loyalty to our great president will sink like the Dreadnought’s overseas career! You have my word!”
“Sir, I think we should lis–”

A gigantic hand busts through a nearby window! A palm large enough to fit five grown men, with fingers twice as long as Lloydington is tall, seizes Jeremy Ness between massive thumb and index fingers. It pulls back away from the building, turns, and flicks him into the air!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah…!” Jeremy Ness screams in terror as he plummets twenty-five stories and then some.

The gigantic wooden-looking hand dissipates into the air…

Lloydington sighs out. “Just do as I say and nothing will go wrong, got that?”
“Y-y-y-yes sir!” The operator as well as the surrounding team members salute Lloydington with shaky hands.

[2:15 PM]

You let your invisibility melt away and start walking towards Kazuchika Storgaard.

“Oh, it’s you.” Richard finally realizes your presence. “About time. Now someone can help me drag him out of here.” You walk past him, ignoring he exists. “…Hey, what are you doing?”

You keep walking forwards, eyes locked on Kaz. He notices you coming and matches your glare.

“I won’t go down easily, you bastards…” Kaz raises his somewhat healthy arm to defend himself. It doesn’t matter. You invoke Philonune and catch him off guard. Your steadfast partner lands a solid right cross on the man’s face. “Gah…!” He drops to the floor.

“So that’s what you came to do.” Richard smirks and moves next to the stairwell door, blocking the escape route. He waves at you. “Go ahead, take your time. Just remember we need him alive.”

“…The fuck, kid?” Kaz wipes the blood from his mouth. Philonune pulls him up by his broken arm, turning him towards you. You give the bastard your best left hook, and he collapses again. “Gah…! You…!”

You kick him in the ribs. Kaz spits out more blood.

You kick him again. And again. And again. And again.

Philonune lifts him up a second time, now in a full nelson for you to let your anger out. Kaz mumbles something stupid about you being manipulated by the monsters, lost to the cold breeze.

You shut him up with a savage punch to the face using your thumb, just like how Trent taught you.
There are no rules or handicaps in a beatdown. It will always stay you against them.

You start a series of gut punches to the take the air out of his lungs, just like how Matilda taught you.
If they’re out cold, they can’t say or do anything against you. They can’t get in your way.

Philonune shoves the barely-conscious Storgaard towards you. As he moves to Kaz’s right, you slide over to Kaz’s left. In perfect sync, you and your partner elbow-tackle him together, just like he and Dhrtarastra did to that wolfman a long time ago.

His arms bend inward in all the wrong ways. You hear his bones crack and snap from the crushing blow.

He falls back down onto the cold rooftop. “AAAaaaaaaaaaah—!” Music to your ears.
“Fancy. I approve.” Richard claps at your display, almost sarcastically. It ruins the moment for you.

But even after this release, there’s still something missing… something you haven’t tried before.
Trent once said it was his favorite thing to do. Said he loved the look on the faces of those who suffered…

Philonune holds Storgaard’s more useable arm and extends it out to its fullest. He then forces open Kazuchika’s hand, palm flat on the ground. You move closer to the hand, stare at his index finger, and stomp it as hard as you can. A loud crack echoes off the snow and all the buildings around you.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGH!!!” The old bastard continues to suffer, twitching where he lies. Then, with a little bravado, he grins wide. “I won’t talk… you little shits…” He laughs in a choked, unhinged way. “You can’t… make me—”

“Next finger.”

“Hey! I’m going to stop you right there, Johnny!” Richard yells from his spot. “I gave you enough time to get that out of your system, but you’ll continue all day if I let you. I need to stop the other four attacks before it’s too late. Let’s get a move on!” He couldn’t care less about Kaz, or how any of you feel…

You make Philonune release him.

The disgraced leader of the Assembly starts talking through gritted teeth. “You two… are destroying this world… for no good reason… A game? What does this game get you? Your dreams fulfilled? Gimme a fucking break… You think those demons will do whatever you say later, after you hand them all that power on a silver platter? Are you fuckin’ stupid…?” Kaz tries to get a reaction of any of you two to no avail. He sees the looks on your faces.

“…Screw this.” Kazuchika raises a trembling hand up to his left shoulder, finding the strength to invoke his partner for the first time! It’s some sort of humanoid slug-robot with stalks on his face and back. “First time I’m seeing his ugly mug again… This is my last ditch effort. Bring it on, you fools.”

He tries to stand on his feet, but his wounds are too much for him. His entity barely qualifies as a mirage.

“Isn’t it too late to pull something like this, old man? You’re running on fumes now.” Richard is unimpressed. He hasn’t bothered moving.

…?

“Someone willing to break their own partner and kill innocent people for a stupid reason is no different than one of the demons you want to destroy.” And that’s your final answer on this subject. You move away from the broken man. “He’s all yours Richard. What do we need to do?”
“The world is going to end because of imbeciles like you! When you meet your end, remember I tried to stop— Aggh…!” Kaz starts vomiting blood. His entity is basically transparent at this point.

“I have no idea how he’s still able to talk with those injuries. The internal bleeding you must’ve caused him…” Richard feigns amazement badly. “Yomiel is going to carry him. You just stay near and cover me, okay?”

Yomiel makes his entrance; he raises his arm, and the cluster of objects making up his hand flies forward, punching Kaz's entity once. Kaz’s entity fragments into nothing as he collapses one last time, no more energy to keep his partner out or talk. Yomiel grabs the old man and the three head down the emergency ladder. You follow close behind them.

“We needed that release, though I suppose you needed it more than I did.” Philonune smirks as he goes back to flame form. “I hope those two are happy with what we did.”
“I know they are. We did our best.” You respond with your catchphrase, though it doesn’t come out feeling quite right… Now there’s nothing else for you to do.

The light beam pointing at a crystal piece is still awfully close to you, but it’s better if you ignore it. As long as it’s not moving anywhere near the clinic, it’s not an issue.

You’re at the clinic again after a silent walk back. Richard turns and tells you you’re free to go back to your original position; he’s going to deal with Storgaard now. The detective also asks you to inform Nina he’ll be in the interrogation room.

You silently nod to accept this request, too drained to speak anymore. Seeing your empty expression, in a strange act of empathy, he smirks at you and puts a hand on your shoulder. He tells you not to worry about it, that he’s going to deal it himself – then he leaves you be.

You sit yourself on a waiting bench in the deserted clinic lobby. There isn’t even someone at the reception desk. Everybody’s just gone. They probably emptied out the entire place because of the emergency, or something.

Are they at the bunker? Are they stuck in their rooms? Is anybody out there?

There is no imminent threat to deal with anymore, but it doesn’t change the fact you still feel like shit.

That’s it for this thread! Thanks for playing!
