/qst/ - Quests

It has been a few weeks since I had awakened in Mother's dungeon. Perhaps, a month?-- Not that it matters. From the looks of it, winter is starting to pass; though, the thick snow that covers the forested landscape beyond the castle's walls haven't been affected by the changing seasons.
During my time here, I have been cared for, even for the smallest thing. The eldritch servants surpasses an accommodating standard: if I wanted another bottle of alcohol, they would present me it under four minutes. If I wanted a warm bath, they would, instead, ready it in but eight.

Of course, I did more than just sleeping and eating. Every four days, I am instructed to follow Mother back into the dungeon for a regular checkup. For what? I have no clue; the process involved her hands sinking into my chest, but never was it concerning. She would always mention it in a vague tone-- 'condensed memories' is what she was looking for.
That aside, I seem to possess some amount of aptitude for combat. There isn't many people to test my skills here, but I'm content with that. However, when up against Mother, she proves to be a harder challenge to take down
...I really wonder what I am. That questions remains as a nuisance for the longest time.

~~~~
A servant knocks at my door. I give it my permission through the hard wood, a shadowy grunt entering my room. It faces its formless head to address me, "Master Morgan is calling for you. To the dungeon, Sir Mordred."
"I thought that my regular checkup is three days from now," I said, befuddled.
"To the dungeon," it repeated. "Something different."
Seeing that this occasion is of another matter, I obey.
Mother was already waiting for me when I arrived; behind her, a table of unknown tools. Additionally, further back to the wall, is a cubed object that's covered by a cloth.
"How is your day, Mordred? Did I interrupt anything?" she greeted in familiarity.
"No," I assured. "What is it, Mother?"
She inspects the tools for a moment, then asking a nearby knight of today's date. "Perfect!" she exclaimed upon hearing its answer: the fourteenth of February. "You know how I have been training you, yes? Why, it was all for this moment."
"Hmm? I don't understand," I stated.
"That's okay. Don't trouble yourself with what I'm saying. You only need to do," she said to me, waving off any possibility of doubt. "For you see, a mission will be assigned to you."
Oh no, Oneko might be fucking dead at this point
>>
>>3220987
Possibly, which is sad because I missed the fuckton of talks about what exactly was her Ancestor in the first place.
>>
>>3221003
On that note, this mission worries me. I have the faint feeling that we are being set for failure since it seems like Morgan hasn't found the condensed memories and probably has realized that something is wrong.
>>
>>3221025
Oh no, another fission mailed, whatever shall we do...
But honestly, Morgan is seriously making herself look more incompetent than LaCroix from VTMB.
"Mission? What kind? And what are those tools for?"
"These?" Mother moves out of the way to let me see a clearer picture: a collection of odd trinkets and weapons. "In the past, before I revived your mishmashed soul, I tried to invade Camelot. It was harder than expected, especially with those WMA guys guarding the place. Since then, I went for the second best thing: to create a new Clarent, not that you remember that either."
"Are you sure, Mother? What about those checkups that you made me undergo? Aren't they important for me?"
"Those are...little exams, just to be safe. I wouldn't want that other ugly part of you taking over now, wouldn't I? Besides, I got something else that's equally useful~" Out of her pocket, she shows me two neatly cut crystals. One is red while the other is pink. "Might as well get this part of the mission over with. Obviously, these is not condensed memories like I told you before. But they're condensed sin, one of the purest forms of humanity. Choose, Mordred~"
Choosing the pink crystal, I take it from Mother's hand.
It felt off once it's within my palm; my body became hotter with a hint of wanting. Something in an obscure part of my brain is shouting at me at afar, about...someone. Who?...
"How does it feel, Mordred?" Mother asked, expressing an interest in my emotions.
"It feels...w-weird," I answered, unable to describe the rising heat within me. Though, it is not at an unbearable degree.
"I see. Lust is truly powerful on its own, isn't it?" Putting the other crystal away, she turns to the table to grab something. It's a silver gun, barely small enough to fit inside my other hand. "Is this item familiar to you?" she inquired.
"Kinda," saying nothing else.
"Good, it should be~ Replicating that girl's catalyst and altering it to suit you was an arduous task." She then points to an unsuspecting guard, "Shoot that knight for me please?~"
I nod at her command, aiming before pulling the trigger. At that moment, everything briefly froze; throughout that sluggish second was a name. "New Clarent," I whispered to myself, a flood of knowledge violating my consciousness.
The effects of New Clarent:
> "Four ways Peace" - Can change between a large pistol, a long-ranged rifle, a cannon, and a sword.
> "Eros" Achieved through realizing a soul's attunement (Lust) - Physical capabilities are enhanced through sexual desire (i.e. strength, reflexes, etc.). Will make you more susceptible to the vice on the other hand.
the problem is that the bonus is affected by our lust levels. It's not just us really, the fact that while it is a general word. It often contains sexual implications to the average person, which our character might only know lust as.
The first bullet pierces the knight's armor, yet, the being didn't make a squeal or cry; that's how loyal Mother's creations are. To finish off the small chore, I cut of its head in a singular motion, a sword taking the pistol's place.
When all was done, the knight's mess is cleaned by the surrounding servants. The sword then breaks apart into displaced light; it's immediately absorbed into my chest, leaving no trace of it inside my grasp.
Mother claps, possibly the loudest thing that I heard so far in my life. "Excellent! Better than I intended it to be, Mordred!"
"T-Thank you, Mother. So, about the mission?"
"Ah, yes..." She contemplates for a little while before changing our schedule. "I think we'll wait for noon instead. Till then, meet me at the garden, my daughter~"
Although given in a loving tone, it sounded artificial. Heartless.
"Before I forget as well, there's a third and final surprise for you. That binding ring," she pointed out, a decorated collar that sits at the table's edge, "and that cage at the back. Don't forget! Ta ta~" That said, Mother, along with her personal legion of monstrous guards, leaves.
Going over to the covered object, a cage that Mother said, I unveil the contents underneath. Behind the rusted, sigil inscribed bars is another knight. However, it's armor is different than the rest: a red alloy made its plates, engravings of Mother's magical words written in its back, arms and waist.
It looks at me, lifelessly. No, a she. I'm so used to seeing the horrifying faces of this castle's soldiers that I almost mistook its appearance. Its helmet at its side, the one who was donning this magical armor is a woman.
Her skin is pale and scarred, sharply contrasted by dark hair that reached past her neck. Last, but not least, is her eyes; they're shapely cat-like.
"Your name, servant. Who are you?" I demanded with a stiff expression.
The woman talks, her words painfully quiet due to a visible lack of use. Or, rather, too much use. "n-nawa..." she muttered, completely avoiding my inquiry. Unless that's her name.
"Who's this 'Nawa?' " I continued.
"N-Nawa....It's you?..."
The woman's eyes wide, now sinking just above the ocean of hopelessness. "No...No..." she kept on echoing to herself, "Y-You're gone?"
"Stop those deprecating mannerisms already!" I complained. "Geez. I knight like you, especially with that getup, shouldn't cry! State your name. I will not repeat myself again."
"...Suzukawa On--" The female knight stops, as if she's reminded of something. "Gwynevere," she finally uttered to me. With clarity too. Though, the recitation of her own name seems to put a distaste in her mouth. "I-I am to be your personal maid from now on...As Master Morgan ordered."
"I now see," I said, accepting her apology. "However, maid? You don't look like the part. I confess my curiosity as to why you're demoted to this duty."
A semblance of life is kindled in her feline eyes, the conversation exercising a human element that she hasn't used in a while. "I was not demoted. I am made to be your personal servant, and to you only."
"Interesting. I'm thankful for the amount of gifts that Mother has given me this morning! I should do as she request wholeheartedly it seems~" I pump my chest up, producing an invigorated aura that seeped into Gwynevere's cage. Returning to the present, I check the lock.
"Let's see...There we go!" I remarked. Opening the cage's passageway, I invite her out into the rest of the chamber. She needed my support to stand, but soon relearned proper balance. A glance at the binding ring solves its unnoted purpose. It must be for her!~
Ignoring Gwynevere for a bit, I put the collar close to my face to read its inscribed decorations. Mother's way of writing spells sure are complex, but after enough repetitive practice, I could read some of her sigils.
The binding ring seems to grant complete obedience to the wearer, its affect dedicated to me only. To be honest, I don't see any use in this, except for punishing or humiliating those who I find disagreeable.
Hanging the collar around my left wrist, the same side where I hold the condensed sin of lust, I gain the attention of Gwynevere for another moment. "I expect that you swear fealty to me! As your master, I find rich loyalty to be rewarded. Keep that in mine, as you shall pledge!"
"...Y-Yes, I pledge," she followed after, not showing any signs of a second thought.
"Good! I'll lead the way!" I said, taking her out of the dungeon and towards my bedchamber.
The sight of Gwynevere was an indifferent spectacle for the residents of the castle. It made it all the more easier to traverse my intended way; before long, it was only the two of us again within my bedroom.
"What's with that surprised look? Am I that extraordinary?"
"No. It's just that...Are you sure that your name is Mordred?" The hopelessness in her eyes seemed to have dimmed, now wondering about me for a second time.
"That's what I was I told and what I believe."
"Oh. Sorry," her disposition contradicting her voice.
"Haaa?~ Can't leave me hanging like that." I sigh, sporting an evil smile next, "Never mind. Let me dress you up! That suit of armor must be put later for other uses. You must look like a proper maid! Though, do you prefer anything?"
Gwynevere's stupefied. "Huh?" she lets out in raw confusion.
"I'll take that as free reign!" Running to my closet, reality hits me in the head as I realize that my wardrobe only consists of white one-piece robes. Better get looking then.
Throughout the castle, I search for a proper outfit for Gwynevere. Soon, I return with what I wanted, presenting it to her with pride.
It's a black and white qipao, fashioned in a way to resemble a maid's motif.
"Can you change out of that suit?" I asked.
Gwynevere nods, her dumbstruck expression still remaining. Her armor starts to be enveloped by the same light that I witnessed, disappearing from her body; she is left naked, red at the cheeks. At her stomach is another of Mother's magic circles, a crystal embedded in the center.
Without my knowledge, she mumbled to herself. "She really does act like her five year old self..."
Ignorant, I went on to dress her. "See! it fits perfectly with your...pale-ish...tanned skin!" unable to decide a rightful description. I take a step back to get a better view; I gotta say, it really does make her stand out in an impressive sense. Profound at the chest and suggestive at the hip slit where you can almost see what's underneath.
To be fair, is incredibly hard to make a one note character like a yandere appealing for such a long time without converting her to a scheming bastard or such.
>>
>>3221972
That's about right.
>>
>>3221975
There is a way. One is giving a reason for why/how she fell for her love interest. The other is fleshing out said love interest. Preferably a combination of the above two options is best. While in this quest Oneko has more personality than our love interest, thus her popularity. Also because whenever there's magical girls or a female protagonist in general, yuri fags will follow. ESPECIALLY for magical girls.
>>
>>3221985
I mean now she's probably magically compelled to want Eji because of the spirit of YANDERE.
But Nyan is loyal and will literally get trapped in a dungeon for you, much better waifu.
>>
>>3221985
It really is more a case of Oneko's just got more personality, for me, which is why I like her. You've pretty much hit the nail on the head.
In terms of character enjoyment (regardless of antagonist or not) throughout the two version, so far it's:
Prime Oneko > Redux Mordred > Prime Hanano > Prime Eiji > Lizard Fuck > Redux Oneko (we haven't seen much of her, but so far, got potential) Redux Hanano > Redux Eiji.
"Heh~ You have quite the ample assets. But I must make clear that I stand as the more desirable woman!" showing off my own feminine characteristics; truly it is I who stands atop. While she's abundant in height, I, myself, is abundant in my bosom's size! "However, with all things considered, I daresay that we make a rather impressive looking duo. An artistic piece that could only be obtained by someone as grand as me! Be honored. You will have a magnanimous and eye-catching master to appear besides!" Grabbing the knob of my bedroom's door, I beckon her forward, "Now come. You look starved, and no servant of mine shall waste away on an empty stomach!"
Gwynevere recovers from my miniature speech, forgetting about the maid-styled qipao that she's wearing. For a second, she grinned in a feline manner.
At the appointed time, I turn up at the castle's garden, meeting mother at the marble set. She first raised a brow at Gwynevere's new outfit, but laughs thereafter in delight.
She invites us at the table, calling in today's lunch. My personal maid couldn't believe what was given to her; in a flash, she begins to consume one plate after another in a ravenous form.
"I would like to know my mission, Mother!" I said during the dine. "You did say that it was to be given to me as of now."
"Excited, aren't you, Mordred? Well, I guess that I cannot withhold it any longer," Mother replied, trickiness sprinkled along. "I think it is high time for me - us - to strike back at the thorn in my side. I only told you so little about the party that goes against me, is that right?"
I confirmed. "Yes. Who are they actually?"
"They're a part of that WMC organization. Four girls and a boy. Every one of them possesses a power similar to you, but luckily, you're one who's able to stand against them. Your soul that is. Anyways, I want you to attack the school that they attend."
"Why?" Gwynevere, who is sitting at my side, gives a worried glance at me. And then to Mother, whose able to catch her glare.
"It's, how do you say it...Payback! They have caused me great frustration, and now's the opportunity to return the favor. It'll also help gauge their magical strength for better documentation. The teleportation circle is already up, so I'm just waiting for you to eat your fill, Mordred~"
"Aye!" determined to see through my first mission. Hell, maybe it'll answer my internal contemplations, even if it's a little.
"Now there's one thing to do before you head off," Mother said.
"Like what?"
"You're clothes. I see that you took your time to dress up your new pet, but you must not neglect your own attire." Snapping a finger, three bird-like monsters fly in with outfits in their arms. "Choose which one you are going to wear after lunch. I know that Gwynevere is interested in your choice~"
Reforging the contact between her and Mother, an invisible conversation goes on; Mother looked to be more dominant.
The worst thing is that we ARE being set up for failure. She is launching us against 5 magical people, we have no intel and she literally wants us to gauge the power of the others. Perhaps being captured by them is for the best.
>>
>>3222238
This does bring up an interesting question I had in the back of my brain.
The question being if we're actually under a geas or mental control to actively attack certain targets against our will. Because I really want to see how far we can get away with not raising a hand in violence before we get "Would You Kindly"'d.
>>
>>3222252
I don't think morgan is that competent. After all, she waited months for her retaliation and didn't confirm that she erased our memories or that we had the right ones. After all, Morgan didn't care that Oneko didn't have her servitude collar or that she was eating with us on the table.
Honestly, we only respond to the name mordred just because is the only one we are being called by right now, but "the dream" is still there, bothering us, like an itch you feel in certain place, but you have to scratch somewhere else to get rid of it.
>>
>>3222252
We also have a free control collar. what if we use it on Morgan, or one of the other girls?
>>
>>3222263
It's why I want to test it before going full hog.
>>
>>3222272
wait...what if we use the collar on ourself? in theory it should free us from any kind of external control and make us undoubtedly loyal to well, us and giving us a narcissistic boost to boot. that should break any spell under us, let it be sleeper or not.
>>
>>3222284
It's crazy enough to work. Since technically at that point we would be loyal to ourselves.
Yeah I'm basically repeating what you said, it's just that brand of crazy that bears repeating.
>>
>>3222288
This will awaken the true yandere.
LETS DO IT....i mean what can go wrong right guys?
>>
>>3222309
Probably nothing. After all, the collar was made for oneko. I doubt Morgan(or anybody) would place a safeguard against something so self destructive and random like what we try to do. We'd only need to give it a deeper look just in case something else is there, check that it wont permanently seal to itself and we are good to go. Maybe try it before on oneko first(in case it can be removed) just to be sure
>>
>>3222309
Or it could turn the Yan into narcissism
>>
Or we could just wait outside the school and give a formal challenge. "Come and face us in honorable battle or we will assault your stronghold!" She said we had to attack the school, but she didn't say how.
I don't really trust the Sin Crystals, they're probably a way for Morgan to keep control over high value targets while also giving them a bit of power to make it think that they're actually a benefit.
Now that I think about it, if Oneko has a crystal in her belly, does that mean the crystal we picked is embedded into ours?
With dinner over, I am assisted to a remote corner of the garden. Mother's new dress was helped on by the same monsters that presented it, supplying me with a mirror when they're done after.
The masterfully sewn cloth is soft to the touch, beautifully grey in color and royal in its design. Complete pieces of white armor attach themselves onto the dress, protecting the vital parts of my body. At the same time, it maintains the fashion through its juxtaposition between a royal and a knight.
Gwynevere wasn't around at that moment. Mother wanted to talk about something with her, but excluded me out of it. The way she smiled to my maid was, to be honest, a bit creepy. It incited another of my existential episodes. Peeking at their conversation for a few times, I watch as Gwynevere's expressions change throughout the short minutes: terror, doubtful reconcilement, a cherry-hued blush, and, finally, reluctant agreement that concerned me. I could only watch however, unable to pick up their voices.
Returning with my new knightly dress, I managed to bump into someone. Wait. There's no one.
"My apologies, Sir Mordred." A disembodied voice spoke, keeping its source of being hidden. Despite the smooth texture of its words, anger ensued within me with no apparent reason.
My command took effect. Out of nowhere, a white, eyeless lizard man shows himself. "I implore your forgiveness," it said with a fake motivation, "I have forgotten the fact that we never have met."
I huff with pride, "Name!"
"Albilio, a high servant of your mother," it introduced, smiling with an infuriating grin.
I take in account the lizard's wording, remembering it for future use. The way he talks invokes an irritated mindset, so I'll have to think about it once I leave. "Very well. We shall have words later, but that's all I need to hear. Right now, I have no time to dally about," exiting the scene and down the line of rosebushes.
"Kehahaha~ Likewise, Sir Mordred," saying its farewell, only to disappear into the background.
Once I have returned to Mother's company, I notice a change in Gwynevere's mood. It has only been a handful of hours since we've met, but now, without her sullen attitude, she's filled with a catty confidence.
Seeing that I have finally arrived with my new dress, Mother then leads us to the teleportation circle. There, she went over the additional complimentaries of the plan.
"Do you still have that crystal, Mordred?" Mother questioned.
I dig the condensed sin out of my pocket, showing it to her. "Yes, Mother."
"Great~ If you're in a pinch, I want you to use that crystal. Smashed or crushed, the magical energy inside will flow into you."
"What does it do?"
"A permanent boost to both magical and physical capabilities. Though, other effects may occur once it's used. Regardless, be it beneficial or detrimental, it'll assist you in your fight with those girls. Especially against a certain one: Fujiwara Mako."
Newly informed, I put the crystal back into my pocket.
"Addressing me as Nawa is not how a maid should be. I'm Mordred! And only Mordred!" returning a smile of my own.
Mother's indifference to the situation overtakes our presence, the attention centered at her. "I'll be watching once you arrive at the other side. Don't disappoint me too much. okay, Mordred~" her expectations unclear.
"Aye!~ Thank you for this opportunity, Mother!" I said, saluting.
She nods, activating the teleportation circle through a mysterious chant. The area beyond the circle's borders break in picture, Mother's figure gradually becoming more and more bent and altered before a cylindrical wall of light surrounded us.
Soon, we find ourselves somewhere different. Underneath a bridge that overlooked a river; above, lively suburbs that coincides within a large city.
"Here?.." Gwynevere muttered, as if this place is familiar.
"Gwynevere, look at the river! It's beautiful!" pointing at the large, streaming waterway.
"It is, isn't it? What else do you think of it?"
"Um... nothing in particular. I just really like the sight~ In spite of the all the snow, the river still runs."
"That must be because the days are warming up."
"Yeah! Mother said that it's February something," the specific date escaping my thoughts.
"February?" she said, slightly taken aback. My maid then switches topic, "Are you cold?"
"No. I should be asking you that instead. Can you not change back into your armor?"
Gwynevere looks at herself, feeling about her qipao. Pretty easily does she summon her suit, holding the helmet in her hand. "I still can't get used to this 'magic,' " she remarked. "Feels all wrong every time I transform."
"Have you not gotten use to the art's matter?"
"I am. But I just can't handle the feel that affect me."
Sparing another glance at the river, I am seized with a terrible headache. Mind-numbing; a nonexistent hammer strikes hard without mercy! Grasping at my head, I crouch. "B-Bah!" I can't help but roll around on the ground, shuffling my legs at the belief it'll relieve the pain. "Bloody-- Argh! My head, my head! It is afflicted with a troublesome, internal torment! The sensation runs me mad! G-Goshdarnit, it HURTS!"
Gwynevere comes to my aid, pulling me away from the water's edge. She rests my body upon her lap, massaging my head whilst keeping my arms and legs held.
The indescribable pain talks to me. Who is it that mocks my humiliating display?! Stop that at once!
A flash appears in my vision. Although the instance was short-lived, I understood what has passed my eyes.
It's the other me, overlooking this wide stream on top of the bridge above me. Her emotionless face was cold, looking down at the waters with a murderous intent.
Finally, the headache stops. Gwynevere releases my limbs, but still continues to massage my skull. "Oi, drink some water," helping me drink from the water source in front of us. "You good?"
> "It's gone. Like it was never there."
> "Hehaha! Of course! Twas nothing but a sting of stress!"
"Hehaha! Of course! Twas nothing but a minor malady-- an issue of the teleportation ritual, I am sure! As expected,you have attended my needs well!" Retrieving my head from the cold stream, I set off, "Now then, where were we? The school? Yes! Let us progress!"
"Er, would you prefer for me to take the lead?" Gwnevere offered. "As your maid, I mean. It's my role to be your first line of defense, right?"
"Why, go ahead! That's the knightly way!~" I encouraged. "At this rate, we will transcend the dynamic role. With me being the better, obviously~"
"Yes, yes. If there's anything wrong, tell me along the way."
Out from under the bridge, I follow my faithful servant through the streets. At this point, she has her helmet on; the passersby gave a weird look as we walked along. "Strange," I thought, misunderstanding the reason for their dulled reactions. "Shouldn't they be more excited? Hmph! Guess I have to show them and the enemies of Mother what I'm made of."
We halt our trek, hiding in a nearby alleyway to peek at the huge institutional building. Through the windows, students, enjoying the shelter from the snow outside. The maid beside me shows a focused, almost reluctant inspiration at the target of our mission.
From out of my chest, light; it forms into a heavy cannon that hang off of my right arm, ready to fire as soon as I will it to. Pridefully, with Gwynevere walking alongside, I stand at the school's closed gate. Immediately, I am sought after from the occupants of this campus, my intricate design freezing them through amazement. Awe spreads, bringing about an elated smirk from me.
Pointing my cannon upwards, I shoot to make myself further known; in the sky, the mass of magical energy spreads into a magnificent star. A sneak peek if you will.
"We seek the ones that are known as the magical girls - and that one boy - to engage in honorable combat! Face us, or we shall assault your stronghold!" I proclaimed.
Meanwhile, gradually, distant chatters grow into mass confusion.
"Who is she?"
"A cosplayer?"
"Is somebody filming a movie?"
Throughout my wait, my eyes instinctively drawn towards another boy. A similar blonde to mine, his eyes are furrowed with a bewildered face incomparable to his peers.
...My heart skips a beat. It's as if my body was dictated by his indiscernible thoughts. He's...His figure leaves a sweet taste in my mouth.
"Territory boundary, create!" Ahead, I hear an emotionless girl shout out a spell. Our surroundings starts to transform: color becomes less saturated and the students inside the school are nowhere to be seen from afar.
This zone has been made into the shape of a dome. Behind me, where its borders end, is the rest of the world.
I could escape its bounds right now, but what was the point of coming here if I did? Hah! Come, challengers!
A glint shows from up above; a girl, clothed in a knightly dress as well, tries to slash at me. I get out of the way, Gwynevere jumping to the opposite direction.
My maid calls upon a catalyst of her own. A chain with two spiked masses of iron connected on both ends. However, her body shows that she isn't intent on doing harm.
The aforementioned girl who struck out at me keeps a sealed mouth, however, she plucks a sensitive chord. Her fine, black hair sways in the wind; despite being thoroughly covered, she possesses a refined body-- a mature air which is a product of such.
She gets into a stance. In her hands is a regal broadsword that exudes a strong magical feedback.
She glances behind her; swiftly, she retreats behind the school gate. Me and Gwynevere follows inside, only to be shot at by another girl. Hazel brown, she sports a loose braid; unlike that other woman, she's scantily clad. With only but a short skirt, leggings that reaches up to the thighs, and a revealing top.
I return my own fire, two masses of magical energy colliding in a destructive performance. Though, she stops her own volley under the upset dust.
When the grounds are cleared of flying rubble, I now see that a group is gathered to oppose me. Two more unknown girls join us. And to the left, the same blonde boy. "Eiji?..." His appearance quickens my heart. Why is that?
You know what's absolutely hilarious? I don't think she said we had to kill them. She said to strike back in the name of payback, and our fight would help 'gauge their magical strength'. Ordering Gwynevere to look out for any one of them that manages to get close, I keep up the barrage in the hopes that they'll tire out.
The sword girl finally decides to lunge in. My maid comes in to meet her, defending with sufficient, however non-lethal, blows. Either way, it only mattered that she dodged Gwynevere's double-sided flail.
While being tugged around, the boy starts to chant a spell of his own. A crest expands across his left arm, glowing briefly in a dark purple. "Lake Sigil, activate!" he shouts, an effect taking place upon Gwynevere's opponent.
The sword girl nods, dashing backwards to create a gap between us. "Caliburn!" The broadsword eradiates in an azure light; reinitiating the fight, she waves her blade to fire off an array of magical beams, pushing Gwynevere back. Then does my maid get serious, swinging the two spiked masses back in determined motions.
Thankfully, I am unaffected by this development. Both my liege and the knightly opposer are occupied, leaving me with enough space of my own to terrorize the other four members.
"Ugh! So irritating!" cried the sunny-haired girl. Her queen-like dress maintains a pristine condition, her hand joined with the magical boy so she can pull him out of the way at a moment's notice. She waves her wand, summoning a cloud of ghostly blades overhead.
"Ultima Ratio Reginarum! - Cannons, the last argument of kings!" I recited, directing a magnificent stream of red to rival the faux queen before me. The storming swords had no chance, clearing away into ephemeral dust.
"Dammit!" Twin-tails drops the boy onto the impassive figure that hides behind opposite cover. "Otobe! Go inside the building and provide support with Eiji!" she said to her.
"Yes, Kana-san!"
"Got it!"
Fully compliant, they rush through the school's front doors.
Wanting to be a part of this battle, the cannon girl rushes in. We collide, pushing at each other with heavy armaments. From afar, this so-called Kana restarts another string of words while I'm locked.
Gathering as much force as I could, I shove the current enemy at my arm to dodge out of the way. And just in time too, as a beam flies past my previous mark.
I laugh. "To lose one's cool in combat is to do naught but empower the tactician's mind!"
"Shut up!" Kana yelled, "If you're the person who I think you are, then you got the gall to join that witch. Aeki keep her down!"
The cannon girl, Aeki, goes in for another hold. "Sorry, but this is for your own good!"
"Own good? Why, this is fun! Your skills are a bit lacking, however, together, you serve as a good challenge!" Prepared, I meet the incoming personage head-on; shifting my body's position just as she was about to come in contact, I give her a powerful blow at the waist.
Although blasted away, she recovers. Though, a bit roughed up now. Quite the durable one she is.
"Go die in a ditch instead!" Kana spited.
"That's your answer I see...Gwynevere!" I called, "Do entertain them until I return."
"Huh? Sure!" my servant replied with panic, disrupted. She soon regains her ground against her opponent whose power is still sustained.
Said knight commands her allies as well, "Kana, Satou! Don't let her through! Nawakubi...M-Mordred might be gunning for Eiji!"
"I can see that!" Kana returned. "Aeki, shed that gentle demeanor for a bit. Things might get more messy with how this person is."
"You're all devoid of honor, aren't you? Hmph! Then it must be me who shall correct it afterwards. Let me deliver that escaping duo first, shall I?"
"Ain't getting through nothing! Geez. And I thought the real Nawa was problematic!"
Weaving in and out of Kana's ever-lasting rain of projectiles, I assault the doors of the building to chase after the absent pair. Aeki proved to be more of an obstruction, deciding to do thing's in close proximity instead of providing constant fire. For a little country girl - though, an assumption of mine - she punches hard!
Still! Still, still, still! It is not enough!
Despite being under the magical suppression above, I fare well during the endeavor. A simple combo into a full frontal explosion relieves me from Aeki, an opportunity to pass through arising.
"Oi, Aeki!" Kana said out of sudden concern. Ignoring me, she gets her damaged ally to safety before launching a pursuit. "Come back here!"
"Aim better then! I am generous, so use this moment as good practice before reaching my goal!~"
Hell, they should be even more efficient than the hypothetical hammer, but a "null" spell to bypass said defenses will be great.
They may get hurt by any blunt weapon, but nothing says that the magic they wield doesn't increase their damage resistance to the point where it just simply knocks the air out of them or regenerative abilities to heal wounds that would otherwise be fatal to a normal person.
Heck, I'm betting that half the reason we're putting them on the backfoot is because they don't have a consistent way to deal with Anti-Magical Girl capabilities on the spot instead of doing a standard DBZ Kamehameha charge.
TL;DR I agree with your sentiments but I also think we need to be doing more with our magic
I lose the cannon, its weight lifted from my arms as I now obtain a sword in its place. Abruptly, I turn around to strike back at Kana; she trips upon trying to force herself to dodge my blade, falling.
Wasting not a second, I raise my weapon at her. She blocks it on the way down with her wand, suspending our tools in the air in an attentive game of strength. Of course, I win; not able to handle my press, she slips back her wand to retreat a few paces.
"Come out, come out~" I singed, smiling a childish smile. I'm not one for hide and seek, but I'll humor them.
Kana should be one or two floors under me, as we are nearing the roof in a bit. However, at the rate she is flying, she should catch up in no time.
"Hmm?~ Oh. It's that boy~" I mumbled to myself, unaware of the blooming happiness in my heart once I see him. I stop before the hall's corner, the male in front of me standing tall as to not let me pass. Does the thumping in my chest raise due to adrenaline? Excitement? Love?
"...Who are you?" he questioned. To me, it was useless inquiry. Did I not introduce myself earlier?
I clear my throat. "I am Mordred, daughter of Morgan le Fay. Got that down? Or do I need to repeat myself thrice?"
"Does Hanano Nawakubi ring any bells?"
"Somewhat. Though, insignificant. My servant and your friends mentioned it, but I see no ties."
"Is that so?..." he said, frowning. "Never mind that. I am Hanano Eiji, beholder of Merlin. I will not let you pass, Mordred. Avalon sigil, activate!" Once more, his crest illuminates, but it now spreads throughout his body in a circuiting fashion.
Eiji charges in at a speed now comparable to the rest of his members, air displacing itself in a gust as his fist hits my stomach.
I fly farther back, the pain subsiding rapidly. Rather approaching me during my slight weakness, he stays at the end of the hall, guarding whatever it is that's beyond this point.
"Hehahah. Good punch!~" I complimented, getting back up. "You've set me in a serious mood now, haven't you?"
Provoked, he runs at me. "I won't let you!"
"Ah, ah, ah~" wagging a finger. "I Don't think so!"
I barrage Eiji with cannon fire joyously, seeing as he persists through the impacting magic. To tell the truth, I was quite impressed; his grit, either self-willed or just merely the spell's effect, carves a deeper affection into me. I can't help but lose myself!
Clearing my mind, I watch as he gets closer. Now knowing that I can't stop him, I put away my cannon for the sword, jumping upwards into the hole. There, the girl that he ran with.
...Wait, so do we give the phone back or what?
>>
>>3227791
eh. she could have run away, yet decided to attack us like this. In combat you don't give second chances, specially since they are also aiming to kill. what if we just stab her somewhere that won't immediately kill her? The lower abdomen is a nice and nasty place to stab.
>>
>>3227801
fuck no. its our spoil of war and also allows us to see into their normal lives.
>>
Can't we just kidnap one of them and go to the nearest ice cream shop?
>>
>>3227801
I say we break it and then return it, after all, she churlishly refuses to realize she is outgunned. If she had knelt and asked to be spared, I'd be generous and return the phone unbroken.
>>
Also I worry about our room. I hope the girls aren't snooping around looking to our things.
>>
>>3227813
Well...Melee girl is right here. we could knock her out, collar her(because she becomes our POW with all the rights that that entails) and get out.
>>
>>3227830
Collar which one? this one isn't very good.
>>
>>3227838
I'm just considering her because she is the closest one and the one we are fairly certain that we can capture. Otherwise i'd go for the queen because she is a piss poor leade and probably would serve better under our command. Eiji is tempting(and i've said it before too) but our mutual love must bloom from real feelings and not the ones fabricated by the collar.
>>
>>3227857
Yeah I'm against collaring Eji. I suppose we could take this one home...
>>
>>3227830
This is a good idea, she can feed us information for later battles and deeprives the rest of support.
>>
But just before we capture her, lets see if oneko managed to down someone more important. Given that the shield is down, we can assume so fairly certainly.
We just need to knock this one out, confirm our suspicions, collar whoever is more important and blast off to the ice cream shop!
>>
>>3227879
Otobe was the one holding the shield together- she has to focus on it to maintain it. When we approached her she was forced to take her mind off of it, so that's why it's wavering.
>>
>>3227886
I guess we can just knock her out then? Man, this is super awkward, we're like a gigantic bully tormenting a helpless kitten with no claws.
>>
>>3227886
Hmm. So if we take her we can decide when the dome goes up for duels/appropriate times. Where if they try to attack and we've got her they'll run the risk of damaging civilians...
>>
>>3227886
oh silly me. I thought we left her outside with oneko; this one is perfect then because they lose the ability to protect civilians and then they must pick their fights better.
"What on Earth is this disgrace? Are you not a fellow knight? Where is your martial skill?!" I can't help but feel embarrassed. "I could face one of your comrades, you know? Perhaps, that champion?"
As if on queue, both Eiji and Kana shows up. At the sight, Otobe ceases, tiny drops of blood stinging her hands. "She has my catalyst! Get the phone before the my boundary breaks!" she warned in haste, backing away. Looking back down from the railings, she can see both Gwynevere and Mako; the former is losing strength and is gradually becoming exhausted. The latter is about the same, but carries on with the same concentration as before.
definitely. The fallout that will come when we discover Morgan is actually evil and will destroy everything we love will be great.
>>
>>3227987
I've come up with a logical reason for why she's not an unholy terror. Put simply, because of how Morgan botched the spell, Mordred's loyalty to his mother, honor, and enjoyment of battle came through fine...because Hanano has NONE OF THAT. However, Mordred's ruthlessness, callousness, and hatred didn't manage to make it because Hanano's already got enough to spare- so when she did the spell to lock Hanano away, those parts of Mordred basically couldn't make it over- kind of like an overzealous anti-virus software. The one big negative that DID make it over is Mordred's ego, because Hanano doesn't have much of an ego that doesn't relate to Eiji.
Without considering any alternatives, I bang behind Otobe's head with the hilt, knocking her out. Her unconscious body falls into my arms, and with that out of the way, I make for the roof's edge.
"No you don't!" Kana remarked, barely making the cut as she grabs my foot. Eiji grabs hers, pulling me back into the widened platform by using his fellow member as a makeshift rope.
After what amounted to horseplay, I get myself free; on the way down, I use the impact of my cannon's fire to break my fall.
"Gwynevere, disengage!" I commanded, my servant following up on it once she hears. "You have all disappointed me greatly. I hope that you will work diligently to make a better showing next time!" I then said to the rest who are present.
With the barrier deforming at our feet, my opponents are forced to recover their previous faces. No remains of the damage that has been done shows, leaving a school of confused students behind.
At least I depart with rewards held: a soon-to-be second maid!~
"Christ. That girl banged me up hard," commented Gwynevere, dematerializing her double-sided flail. "Ah. Wait a moment."
I halt; out of...somewhere, the maid beside me takes out a handkerchief to clean off the dust on my cheek. "All good. Right...M-Master?" she nervously inquired.
As a QM, it hurts as well. I could commit suicide after noticing a preventable typo.
"Yup~ You were exemplary! I'll have to reward you myself when we get back home, don't I?" I said with recognition. To compliment her even more, I lay my hands on top of her helmet, taking it off so I can comfortably pat her on the head. I may have overdone it though.
"Nyehaha!~ S-Stop that!~" she playfully pleaded despite purring like a cat.
I give mercy, replacing her helmet. "We have completed our goal. I think it's time to find ourselves this modern alchemical creation that people call 'ice cream.' "
"I know a place. Shall I take the lead?"
"Yes! Tenfold and beyond. Yes!" I agreed, anticipating the treat's sweetness.
Before long, we got ourselves some cones, enjoying it under the shade of a thick line of trees; our acquired method was what I understand as effective. However, I wonder if threatening that store was fine...Oh well~ I can't get my mind off of the milky texture of melon! It just melts in my mouth!
"Master, er, what about her?" Gwynevere mentioned, hinting at the unconscious Otobe.
"Her?..."
Gwynevere helps me in waking up our prisoner. A light sleeper she is, as she jolts awake with a great shock with but a few slaps to the cheek. "w-what...Wait!" she exclaimed, energizing herself within the first three seconds. As I would expect, her initial action was to escape. But that wasn't a problem for my maid.
Held down to the ground, though, gently due to my orders, I attempt to compromise with her in a hushed voice. "I find it that you already know about your current situation, yes? Good. To explain, you are now a prisoner of war. If you yield and keep docile, I - we - shall treat you with due respect in turn, But..." continuing on, now showing her the binding ring from my wrist, "...if you don't, then I'll have to exact forced obedience with this collar. And I re~ally don't wanna put it on you. Mother, however, might be pleased if it does come to it. Your choice~"
"M-My phone..."
I show her precious catalyst as well, "This thing, right? Sorry, but you need to earn it. it has come to my attention that you are outstandingly week, and I must research a proper practice to help you achieve a satisfactory strength."
"...fine."
"Hmm? Pardon?"
"F-Fine!" Otobe yelled.
"Good choice. Gwynevere, watch over her please~"
"Aye," assured my maid.
Story notes #1
Ika Otobe's catalyst - Digital Hermes.
Unlike other magical girl catalyst, 'Digital Hermes' cannot be dematerialized due to a unique characteristic: that is, it possesses a whole, material form. It can be broken, inhibiting any use of its effects. Though, once the user obtains another cellular tool - excluding house phones, or any phone without a visible screen - its power is restored. Operation is not affected by traditional dials or touch screens.
>>
>>3228746
Continuation of a bad end. At this point the previous one 'almost' doesn't matter. Because Mordred is adorable.
>>
>>3228746
Reboot/rewind. It's clear there's some backstory differences, but the general idea is 'We didn't make it out. Oneko tried to bust us out and failed instead.'
>>
>>3228746
A little bit of column A, and a little bit of column B.
Also you should probably take a read of the first one to have some context over what has happened in the past since Hairbrush is making callbacks to "Mordred's" past when she was known as Naru.
>>
>>3228746
short answer: Yes.
Long answer. not sure. It seems like we never managed to leave Morgan's castle when the lizard captured us, or worse, she never let us go when we went to her caslte on the first encounter and it also seems like we knew the girls for more time than the original run. Also Mordred seems to be way better than hanano in every shape and form.
>>3228748
I'm not sure about her liking to use the sword. After all, her catalyst are a pair of gauntlets. We will definitely teach her how to use it, but we'd be better teaching her what she excels at.
>>
>>3228766
>and it also seems like we knew the girls for more time than the original run
I don't think that's the actual thing since it seems their strongest memories of us was when we barged into Eiji's room to "rescue" him from their clutches, which eventually led to us being captured in the first place.
>>
>>3228766
I thought it was a cellphone? I hope she goes through odd physical changes just being present in mother's realm. Example -> Gywn's height
>>
>>3228773
but we don't know if that is canon. for all we know that previous run might be another dream, like the first reboot thread.
>>3228776
oh yeah, misnamed the thing. The point is that her magical weapons are a pair of gauntlets and that means she prefers that kind of combat.
>Example -> Gywn's height
What. She is taller here? mind elaborating on that?
>>
>>3228784
>but we don't know if that is canon. for all we know that previous run might be another dream, like the first reboot thread.
This is a fair point you make.
It's also why I want to interrogate our "Salvage" about such matters as well since we can then have a semi-reasonable basis for what really happened.
>>
>>3228784
I thought she was taller as we're referring to her as an amazon, she's also become pale. Not sure if there are other features that have changed.
Granted I could be mistaken, feel free to correct me qm
>>
>>3228790
She definitely was taller and bustier than us in previous runs. The pale-ish skin might be because her clothed parts aren't tanned, her skin looks like pic related or her being trapped in a cell with no light took away oart of her tan(the least logical option in my opinion).
First thing first. A maid's dress. At this point, Gwynevere is back in her qipao; sadly, there wasn't any other unique renditions of the subservient, black and white style around the castle, so I had to settle with a normal one. Though, it's still cute on her. Or, more specifically, she absolutely fits the modest role.
Her attitude about it was wholly different. But I convinced her, changing, be it forcefully or not, from a school uniform - her original clothes before transforming - to my desired outfit as the master here.
Next, her measurements. I think that I'll need to record them for physical training, but either way, it's safer to just do it.
Slightly below a female's average height, all around flat, and severely weak. Oh, right. That's suppose to be a secret. Silly me~
"Say, Gwynevere, do you have any tips to make her a reliable servant? What did Mother do with you?"
To my question, I was met with a blank stare from my first maid. Even if I move out of her sight, her eyes are steadily empty until I shook her out of the seizing trance. Strange...
"I'll discuss that for another time then. Otobe," I called, said person taking refuge in the corner of my room. "As of today, you are under this castle's law. Speaking from experience, all you have to do is not upset Mother. The other servants here are fine and indifferent to your presence if word got out quick enough-- say for a particular one. But let's not talk about him. Of course, you are to be my maid. Alongside Gwynevere, you shall pick up the art of housekeeping. And, ultimately, my decision should be prioritized over anything else. Unless, again, it's Mother's. Is that all clear?"
"...Yes..." Otobe replied reluctantly. She has been more quiet after I spared her from Mother.
"I'm glad that you see to it~"
we won't take her into battle anytime soon and even if she was disciplined, her lack of strength and need of protection is her weakest point right now, after all, she did manage to land hits in the correct parts, they just lacked "oomph".
I am beginning to be concerned that you do not understand what I am talking about, so I'm going to try and explain it the best I can since I am under the belief I did not explain myself well the first time because I have the charisma of a retarded chimpanzee.
When her phone was taken away, she did not try to think things through nor kept cool under the fact that she was disarmed, she did not even make the attempt to get the hell away until was too late to get away when our attention was drawn. Granted she told her teammates that she had no way to fight back but if you want time to say that then you have time to make a run for it.
She instinctively went into "bitch took my phone" mode and did not have the mental training to keep the perspective of "I'm in a life and death situation with someone who can break pick-up trucks in half with their leg".
TL;DR She's got the morale of an X-Com Rookie and it'll fuck anyone around her over regardless of who they are.
its also my fault. Seems like i still tend to unconsciously skin over pieces of text and to no one's surprise, it made me understand something completely different.
You are right on your main point though. If your main line of defense is taken away and you don't have any other way to defend yourself (because it seems like i also imagined that she uses gauntlets), you have to RUN regardless of the situation. I get why she tried to stay, but its still foolish nonetheless
Days go by; I have forged an efficient plan for Otobe now that she's under my jurisdiction. Though, it looks like that she never needed it.
She's an excellent maid. More so than Gwynevere, who is more combat oriented than anything else. Of course, there's the problem with discipline; I cannot have a maid without the proper mindset and patience needed. What will happen if she bleeds her knuckles again like last time because of overbearing anxiety? Not on my watch!
To remedy the issue, I make her practice certain activities that would be harder without a magical catalyst. Nonetheless it tied in with housekeeping: scrubbing the floors, laundry, and so on with the promise of her phone.
However, she's quite unnerved by Mother's servants. It's a tough site for her when looking at eldritch monsters that fancy themselves within formal suits, brooms, and cooking pans. I, on the other hand, just laugh it off. She'll get used to them, for sure!~
It wasn't just her training alone. With some advice from Mother and a few small sentences from Otobe, I went on to study some elementary magics. A catalyst - such as my New Clarent - is one thing. But performing the deed is another. So far, I can conjure a palm-sized flame from my hand.
On a late night, where I finished dinner with Mother, I rest within my room with Gwynevere serving as my company. A stand props up my knightly dress by the closet. As for me, I have defaulted to my white robe.
Pretty soon does Otobe arrive. Her eyes are tired from a hard day of work. She whispered and droned: "So much tools to clean...So many crystals" slightly shaking at the hands. It wasn't a second later till she falls on my bed, exhausted.
"You've done well so far, and I applaud your persistence. Quite a valuable trait I must say. Soon, we will begin your strength training! As you will become a proper knight!" Moving closer, I then pat her head. "A week as my maid surely needs to be rewarded still. I can issue an order to get you ice cream. How does that sound?"
"I'm not in the mood," Otobe replied. Muffled by my bed's sheets.
"That's okay. You can tell me at anytime if you do change your mind, though."
Getting herself up, my second maid wanders the room to busy herself. Gwynevere is dozing off in the corner; perhaps, she's asleep already.
"What's this?" Otobe said, the lust crystal in her hands. Drowsiness, too, tempts her, a dazed mind taking up her senses as she inspects the item. "...I-I must've brought this here by mistake."
"No, no~ That's mine, actually," I refuted. Correcting herself, she then puts it back where she found it: on my desk. Maybe I should store it somewhere safer.
Fuck, crystals aren't catalysts. Oh well, the point got across, i suppose.
We can test by using Otobe's phone, but considering that Morgan had to replicate our original guns, we might need to create our own or something like that.
We also need to learn how to create our own custom collars. They will be really handy when we manage to capture more girls.
"What did you mean by 'so many crystals?' " I asked. "So far, I have only witnessed two. That pink one was given to me by Mother for combat purposes."
"I had to sort a bunch of them," Otobe answered. "Red ones, green ones, blues, and yellows. They all gave me a bad feeling whenever I handled them."
"Interesting...Anyways, with how sleepy you are, I think that we should retire for the night. Can you help me move Gwynevere onto my bed?"
Grasping at different ends of the amazonian woman from her chair, we carefully move my feline servant to the same mattress as mine. Otobe usually uses a futon, setting it out on the floor while I get the lights. Before long, under the beautiful dark, was only the sound of faint purrs and the shuffling of pillows.
Tonight's dream was a bit different. Like all of them, it was both short and long; they're forgettable as always, but this one stuck with me for a bit longer.
What I saw was an ongoing scene; it was as if I stumbled upon it midway through. Watching, there was a group of girls that were dressed up in differentiating, unique costumes. They, themselves, flew through somebody's window, obviously surprising the person who lived there. And soon, another person showed: a...sister I think? That's what I discerned after 'feeling' her air. Her expression was a concoction of fear, jealousy, love, and other complicated emotional elements. To go about without too many details, that sister was quite a mess. Has she ever thought of taking up any physical practices to blow off some steam?~ That aside, the boy there was pretty cute~
