Hello there everyone, I suppose a status update is in order.
I am not dead.

As anyone who read my old stuff probably already knows. I was going through some pretty rough stuff a few months back, mental problems reared their ugly head and I ended up deleting the quest's discord server and going off the grid for a while.

I probably owe you guys an apology for not going about it better, but I wasn't in the best state of mind.

That being said, I'm much better now and if you guys are up for it I'd love to give this another go.

This is a soft reboot of the old Worm Quest, just to be totally honest. One of the problems with the old setup was that it lacked focus, and all got a bit out of hand. My quest notes document was nearly ten pages long and the sheer size of it was a bit more than I could handle. To the old fans, I promise I'll try not to let you down again. With that stated, time for some fun capeshit.

Your name is Barnaby Campbell, and the day before yesterday was so fantastically shit that it actually gave you superpowers, a not terribly uncommon thing in the cesspool of decay that is Brockton Bay. Not more than a day later you found yourself in a "recruitment drive" at the hands of two villains working for the Empire 88, a group of superpowered Neo-Nazis.

You've since decided that there's strength in numbers, and if you're going to join a group it might as well be the good guys. That's how you find yourself at a payphone, calling in to the local government sponsored superteam. (Or rather, their unpowered support staff. You can't just call Armsmaster for god's sake.)

"Hello! This is the Parahuman Response Team, how can I help you?"

"Uh... hey. I got powers a while ago, so I thought I'd come by and ask some questions. Maybe join up." You look around, peering through the cracked glass of the phone booth. There are eyes everywhere after all. I mean sure you're on the Boardwalk, but you've already taken your safety for granted once. It ended with a bloody knife in a back alley.

You'd expect the lady behind the counter to seem surprised at this, but honestly she just seems bored, with maybe a hint of frustration. "Okay well, we're going to need you to come in and verify that sir, and may I remind you that you can be fined for deliberately lying to waste the time of law enforcement."

You're a bit indignant for a moment, but you suppose they must get a lot of crank calls. So it's fair enough that the lady on the other side would be skeptical.
There might be a bit of a complication when it comes to that though...

I may have defended myself though?
Don't mention it, just stay chill.

There's a long moment after the receptionist stops her stock "yeah sure you're a parahuman, buddy" phrase. A moment that you spend debating the pros and cons of coming out. (to murder/lobotomy) To be fair, you don't think that identity death counts as murder legally, but you don't want to be the poor bastard who sets the precedent.

In the end however your conscience wins out. If you're going to be a hero, then it needs to be honest. You won't sweep something this big under the rug, you'd be starting off the entire rest of your life with a goddamn lie.

"Sir?"

You swallow, your mouth dry and tongue leaden as you think of how exactly to best phrase what has to come next.
"I'm in kind of a tough situation here... You guys picked up Stormtiger last night right?"

That gets her attention, and she immediately sounds more alert.
"That information hasn't been released yet, how do you know?"

"Yeah, that was me... I didn't mean to do it I swear, it's just... they wanted me in their group and I panicked. All I had was the knife and my fabricator. I panicked and stabbed him. but I'm weirdly quick now and he just. just. It..."

Then you're standing in the alley, the muscled aerokinetic swaying on his feet in front of you as you pull the shitty pocket knife out of the corner of his left eye, clear fluid and blood dripping down the blade and feeling slick on your hand.

You hear sirens. You are overcome with fear, and you are laughing. Not a deep chuckle or villainous cackle. It's the high pitched giggling of a hyena. A sound of fear.

"I can't stop smiling, I can't stop laughing, and I hate it!"

Somewhere along the line another voice took over, you shake as you lean against the side of the booth, biting your tongue to muffle your demented giggling. It takes a second to pull yourself together, you bite down on your hand and raise the phone back to your ear, waiting to be called a monster, or insane.

1d3=3, Assault. possibly the best outcome you guys could've had

"Listen to me, listen! You're gonna be okay kid. I just need you stay calm okay, breathe..."

It's a male voice now, deeper with a bit of a New York twang.

"You know who I am kid?"

It clicks. "Assault right?

Assault: A Protectorate hero with some kind of telekinesis power, famous online for being chill as fuck.

"Yeah, that's me. And I promise it's not as bad as you think. Stormtiger was a murderer alright? You were just lookin' out for yourself. I need you to do something though."

"What?"

"I need you to come to the PRT building alright? We're gonna have to talk this out, but I promise if you come in I'll do everything I can to keep you safe. Armsmaster POV
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9D71pQaTnc

Perhaps it's for the best Assault took over. The new parahuman doesn't seem stable at all, possibly due to Trigger mutations. It still rankles a bit that he answered the receptionist before you did, but you'd be... possibly the second (Dragon would be first) to admit that comforting scared teenagers isn't exactly your point of expertise.

Hopefully when you arrive to contain him, he'll be awed by your reputation and stature, meaning you don't have to talk to him that much.

Although, he did mention a "fabricator". It may be good to present yourself as a potential mentor figure, much like with Kid Win. Hopefully he's a superior Tinker, Kid Win's ADHD is crippling at the best of times.

There's a twinge of something there in your gut, but you suppress it. Now is not the time for doubt.

Unfortunately, Dragon is overseeing her factories at the moment, meaning you're stuck with Assault's advice.

He talks too loudly, and too frequently.
But you need his help. idiot

It takes almost three minutes to reach the intersection of Third and Boardwalk. Five seconds faster than your last recorded journey from the Rig to here. You allow yourself a slight smile. It may soon be tactically advantageous.

There's only one person waiting here. A recognizably human male wearing civilian clothing. Blonde hair and green eyes, yes you see why the Empire would want him.

"Hello, I'm Armsmaster. I'm here to take you to the PRT building."
Polite greeting, name, manage expectations.

He stands still.
Giggling.

It irks you, but you say nothing as he climbs on the back of The Armsmobile.

Mission Successful.

Going back thru thread 1 of OBD. Up to the PRT call, this is what is canon:
>Barnaby gets up, goes to school and gets the shit kicked out of him for "speaking like some sort of rich fuck or something."
>Declan is a guy at the high school. He's with the Empire. He's a douchebag.
>kicks the rest of the shit out of Barnaby for not paying his dues
>Barnaby's usual rooftop spot is taken by a sad girl a year below him (i.e. Taylor)
>Ignore it, decide to avoid further risk and spend the day hanging around Mr. Gladly. Gladly is the teacher who tries to be hip but ends up kinda awkward, though a bit decent to talk to.
>Father is a drunkard who works nights.
>+1 int bonus to int checks
>Barnaby goes to Boat Graveyard to avoid home situation
>Gets fucked up and dragged into a ghetto operating room by some ABB medical bastard
>something something "should have just chilled out at home instead of going to the one place all three gangs use, hindsight is 20/20"
>something something "those teeth alone are going to be worth a mint"
>something something "get me the nitrous oxide"
>laughter ensues
>entities give Barnaby Molecular Processor Tinker power, but also Physical Dexterity Mover package
>Barnaby wakes up laughing, turns out the guy removed his right arm
>"Less comforting of a thought is the feeling of your bones shifting as you slip out of your restraints."
>"your mind becomes a whirling mass of ideas, chemical formulae and blueprints taking up every inch of your skull and clamouring to be let free"
>reattaches his arm by sewing it on, kills the surgeon fuckhead when he arrives
>turns out Barnaby is also somewhat fast
>heads out window, falls two stories harmlessly
>heads back home shirtless
>based little bro there
>"Mike is your little brother. He's four years younger than you and thinks you're the absolute coolest. He also looks more like your mom, something you've always been a bit jealous of to be fair. Round features compared to your thin and long face."
>after a short talk, spaghetti for dinner
>"The house is a fairly simple affair, two stories with three bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen/dining room. All perfectly maintained and cleaned. it seems nice enough from the outside. Your room is downstairs, and is the smallest of the three, with just enough space for your bed and an old TV."

Unknown if he was still a drunkard in that world

>>3226038
But Mom was missing there, so maybe she was the drunkard there?

>>3226048
you got it confused
Thinker is powers related to knowledge, skills, enhanced perception - though I guess knowledge of your own body's orientation in 3D space to back up the flexibility and dexterity he has could qualify as a very minor Thinker secondary power.
Tinker, which is what Barnaby has, is the OP "fabricate things" powerset.

And I'm not even going into the trigger event and the in-universe backstory stuff that caused Barnaby to get these powers. That'll be later.
>>
>>3226036
Doesn't sound like a tinker trigger. If anything it sounds like a master/brute/thinker trigger
>>
>>3226063
Yeah VOID didn't have trigger events written well back then. He's learned a lot since.
>>
The PRT building (not to be confused with the Rig, the Protectorate base in the bay) is colossal, a fortified haven that has more in common with a military base than any civilian structure. Multiple floors surrounded by thick concrete walls and even the occasional gun emplacement for use against Brutes. The whole thing screams "Order" at the top of it's lungs.

And it's more than a little intimidating.

You're too busy riding high on fanboy fumes though, having just rode Armsmaster's bike. Funny story, you actually almost fall off about halfway through your journey trying to analyze the material he's coated the wheels with.

Eventually though all things must come to an end. and you find yourself more interested in whatever they've built the walls from, because looking at it up close you can see that it sure as hell isn't concrete.

There's a couple of PRT troopers standing at attention as well. And you quickly find yourself being escorted through to a small room with a table, some surprisingly comfortable chairs and what is obviously a two way mirror set into the wall. Armsmaster curtly directs you to a seat before standing on the other side of the table.

"Would you like anything to drink? I can get you a cup of water if you'd like."

You shake your head at that, you're nervous enough that swallowing anything seems like a fool's game at this point.

"Assault will be by soon, I must continue my patrol. They will handle your i-interview."
With little else to say, he steps out of the small office and closes the door behind him.

You're not waiting for long before two PRT agents enter the room, flanking Assault who flashes you a toothy grin before sitting down.
The man himself is a bit taller than you, but not by much and his bright red suit more than matches what seems to be a rather sunny disposition. he's fairly muscular and has short brown hair.

"First off, before we can do anything else. You aren't technically under arrest, but you do have a right to a lawyer or a guardian, both if that's what you'd prefer. Also, if you do unmask that'd make things a lot easier because right now we don't know whether you're a minor, I'm just guessing based on the most likely outcome. Most new parahumans are kids see?"

You're suddenly very aware of the scarf you've got pulled up to cover your mouth and nose. There's safety in anonymity sure, and you don't want to get your parents called in but on the other hand, you're probably gonna have to anyway if you end up joining the Wards. Plus it'd be a pretty good show of trust.

>Hi, I'm Barnaby
>Not yet. See what they're gonna slap ya with for Stormtiger first.
>>
>>3226061
I know i know, i misspelled it alright.
>>
>>3226073
>Keep the scarf on

I would like to know what is going to happen before we remove the mask. Legally speaking they can't do so without having us arrested, and even then it isn't done very often for capes.
So if we think the sentence is not that hard to bear, we can remove the scarf and still have a trust gesture.

You reach up and pull down the scarf, exposing the wide grin that you're too tired to keep off your face. One of the PRT troopers seems visibly nervous as you do so, his hand dipping down towards his pistol. To Assault's credit, his own smile only wavers for a second before he recovers.

"Ah, that's what you meant... And you're stuck like that?"

"Yeah, I can do other stuff if I really try, but this is just kinda my new default. At least I'm not a monster cape though right? Those guys have it bad." You pause for a moment, taking a deep breath before continuing. "My name's Barnaby Campbell, I'm 16 and I go to Winslow. I got my powers when-"

He physically recoils at that, waving his hands in front of him as he interrupts you.

"Woah there, you really don't have to go into that! That's uh... that's not something you've got to tell anyone. Except maybe a therapist." He seems to notice your confusion, because he continues at a slightly slower pace. "We uh, all had a day like that. That's how people get powers. Not exactly the same though. But close. Most of us don't talk about it."

Oh.

"Let's just skip past that bit eh kid?"

You nod, giggling awkwardly.

"You want us to call your folks? Or a Lawyer? Since you're a parahuman we can just go straight to the lawyer, for secret identity reasons."

Not likely, you aren't telling your dad jack shit. And you're not worrying Mom or Mike if you can help it. Besides, you're trying for honesty here, given the response so far it seems that jail is mostly off the table.
"No thanks, I kinda just want to get this over with.

"Are you sure? Alright, now we've got the introductions done, mind going through what happened last night? We grabbed Stormtiger but he wasn't exactly... responsive."

And there's the part you weren't looking forward to. There's a few seconds of hesitation, but you start the tale as best you can, starting with Tinkering in the old chemical plant and finishing just after your short altercation with the Nazi cape.

Assault is mostly quiet as you recount the events of last night, mostly limiting his interaction to a reassuring smile or nod when you falter. He doesn't ask any questions, but you get the impression that he's definitely giving it some very serious thought. He smiles at the end though, and that buoys your spirit a bit.
"Okay, now I'm gonna have to be honest with you, you're in a pretty sucky position. Massachusetts isn't a stand your ground state, which means that self defence isn't really a thing. You've got what's called a duty to retreat. Means if you can run then you have to." He notices you freeze up and quickly continues, raising his hands in a placating motion. "But on the other hand, any half decent lawyer would point out that Stormtiger can fly at eighty miles an hour so unless you can teleport then honestly you should be good. So that's kind of the sticking point. I know you're a Tinker, but you can't do that can you?

"No, so far I built some weird metal cards and that's pretty much it."

He goes from slightly worried looking to bright and sunny again, snapping his fingers as he gives you double finger guns.

"Well then we should be all clear. To all intents and purposes you were powerless against a flying nazi ninja with mind-bullets. I'd have to check with the proper legal team, but I'm pretty sure you're golden."
He goes quiet for a second, tapping at his earpiece for a few seconds before leaning in.

"I'm probably gonna get in trouble for this, but what the hell. The higher ups in the PRT might try and slap you with an offer, make the whole thing go away for a probationary place in the Wards. Basically it'd be the same for joining regularly, but the PRT'd have more control over you and they'd get to hold a charge over your head to stop you from leaving. Don't take it, you might technically go to trial for it, but there's not a jury in the America that'd convict you and they'll sure as hell know it."

The instant he begins that sentence, you see him flinch from the sudden outpouring of muffled sound from his earpiece. You guess someone on the other side of the line probably has some serious shit to say.

Paradoxically, his smile only gets wider.

Then he stands up, and bangs on the door out.
"Can't really talk about you joining up before we get this sorted out. Someone should be by in half an hour or so, depending on whether anyone's dumb enough to try charging you for this."
"See you around kid."
Then he's gone.

okay so Shadows in the Moonlight is totally 1800s Barnaby with Jack, Broken Steel might be Wild West Wasteland Bethany, Ass Chewing might be Rune and Empire 88 after Stormtiger got fucked OR Assault with Armsmaster and the rest of the Protectorate, and Where Are You? might be little bro Mike after Barnaby didn't come home?

Gonna have to go with

One Bad Day Changelog V1.1
>fixed a bug that made Armsmaster consistently underperform in melee combat.
>Coil will no longer “just give up” should his attacks be thwarted a few times, we envisioned him as a potent mid game threat and these changes should help reflect that.
>Kaiser no longer sends rank one thugs to their doom endlessly. This was due to a bug that gave him essentially endless minions.
>Miss Militia, Velocity and Dauntless encounter rates buffed.
>fixed an exploitable that allowed instant construction of tinker tech.
>updated combat system to mimic Fear and loathing, which has been well received.
>Manic’s skill trees rebalanced, renamed. Mad combat is now Agent of Chaos.
Silver tongue is now Trickster.
Art of speed is now Joyride.

Assault was feeling great.

"What kind of IMBECILE..."

And to think he was mad earlier about not being able to do proper hero work.

"Does the phrase Operational security mean Nothing to you!"

But this was it, the real hero work. Pulling a kid out of what could turn into a bad situation, leveraging that kind of cheeky charisma that only he and Clock could really pull off.

"Information Hygiene!"

Armsmaster might have managed with Dragon's help. Triumph could've at least brought the kid in, no telling over whether the kid'd be up for it though.

"It's not your perogative what the chief director, or I for that matter decide when it comes to dangerous Tinkers."

But right there at the end, that kid smiled with his eyes. The face could lie, sure but just for a second, maybe his laugh had been genuine. And that's the side of hero'ing that Assault really loved. It's like in the old comics, the really old ones before Scion turned up. Superheroes are supposed to make you happy.

So Ethan sat there in front of Director Piggot, and for one of only a few times he's been brought to this office there's not an ounce of contrition in his mind or heart.

"I did the right thing." He thought. "And I'll keep doing it, no matter what."

"Battery, come in and talk some sense into your husband."

oh fuck.

she doesn't steal them, She takes them from the dead. So she has to kill the fuckers first and considering how her powers scale, and how young she was when she triggered she effectively went normie vs cape until she got some muscle with her. so pretty bad ass.

And yes, her.

Major positive that this is reborn. The only downside is that I don't have pants with enough room to hold my errection and it will last more than 3h.

True to Assault's word it's not too long before a PRT trooper comes along to walk you back out, throwing you an Armsmaster T-shirt and some generic looking black cargo pants so people don't see you in the same clothes you went in with. best to have a little space between the guy that rode in with armsmaster and the extremely recruit-able blonde kid. Anything less would just be throwing the Empire a bone. Apparently you're to expect a call within the next few days on your cell.

From Armsmaster.

Let no one say that Barnaby Campbell is a cape nerd but still. That's fucking rad.

You decide in a moment of rare luxury, to get a taxi home. Taxi's being one of the safest methods of transportation in the city due to the stirling work of the Cabbie's Union. It's always good to get home in good time. Sure there's a few cop cars going past, but there's always something going on in the bay, what's the chances you'll run into it.

Standing across the street from your family's house, watching as police hold your neighborhood folks back, maybe you shouldn't have tempted fate like that.
Apparently the Paramedics just sped off with your brother to the hospital.

The crowd isn't the usual Brockton Bay observers though. No. They're out for blood. You can see Miss Militia over the crowd, Standing with a shotgun in her hands and desperately entreating the crowd to stay calm. It isn't working though. They can all see as your old man comes out the door in handcuffs, a bloody crack in the top of his head as he struggles against the police hauling him out.

And they surge forwards as one.battering against the police as an angry mob becomes a lynching.

You're frozen in place, giggling as tears stream down your face while the angry people are pushed back and your father rushed off in another ambulance.

At some point a policeman comes over, asking why you're still stood outside after everyone else has left. Then you ask which hospital they took your brother to, and it seems to click for them.

You're driven to Brockton General Hospital, it was closer than the Medhall complex, so that's where they ended up.

At some point you're sat down by a very polite officer, who explains that the entirety of your family is now in surgery. Each of them for something different.

Mike was shot four times.
Mom has a concussion, brain damage too.
Father got the shit kicked out of him by four police officers.

Apparently Mike has the best chance at life.

At some point you fall asleep, sat in a chair outside of a surgery.
Maybe you'll wake up at home.

You awaken suddenly, a hand on your shoulder shaking you gently. You shake them off as you stand, looking around and expecting a doctor or nurse. What you find is a young girl, with curly hair and what a cruel person might call a flat face.

Panacea, Brockton's miracle healer.

Christ, she looks how you feel. You can feel bags forming under your eyes in sympathy to her own.

"You the brother he keeps yelling about B-something?"

That wakes you the fuck up.

"What? I mean yeah, probably. Barnaby Campbell."

"He's awake, room thirteen you-"

And with that you're gone, sprinting down the hall at all possible speed, stopping only to follow the signs that lead to your brother. It's not long before you find yourself at the door and barge through, practically diving onto the bed as you pull Mike into your arms.

The two of you sit there for what seems like hours, you repeating apologies and him crying. It's only about an hour in that he finally speaks.

"I got in the way, I tried. I promise. I'm not as tough as you bro. I'm sorry."

Eventually a doctor comes in and you stop. He comes over to Mike's bed and the two of you turn to face him. He's tall, and brown haired, with a wispy beard that belongs on a hippy commune rather than a medical facility. You won't say that to his face though, he's probably a better doctor than you'll ever be.

"Are you the Campbell boys? I have some news about your mother."

That sends off a flurry of questions from Mike, Is she safe? Is she gonna be okay? did she get shot? That last one you didn't expect, you know Mike got shot of course, but you didn't expect him to be so blase about it. You'd probably have asked that first.

The doctor waves you off and plows through the barrage of queries from the little one that all basically add up to one thing.

Is She Alive.

"She's going to be alright, but not for a while. Panacea fixed most of her injuries but there wasn't anything she could do about the brain damage she suffered. It was very damaging I'm afraid. She's alive and we believe she'll regain consciousness, but it could be months before we see any improvement."

The sheer agony on Mike's face can only be matched by the utter confusion on yours. A confusion you can't quite put to words unfortunately. He seems to understand however.

"I couldn't find any family, normally I'd be having this conversation with your grandparents or uncles but there are none." The stone veneer of his face cracks for a moment at that, and you can see a profound sense of empathy, and hope, but just a little. "Unless you know of any relatives?"

"No, it's just us."

Now it's not quite true necessarily, your mother had plenty of friends on your old street. But no one could afford two extra kids to feed and put through school. so that route is out.

"If it helps, your mother had a lucrative insurance policy. So long as she recovers within the next three or four years, it should be covered entirely."

"And Dad's finally in jail is he? He went too far and for once someone actually noticed.

"I'm afraid your father is dead... killed while in a holding cell at the police station I believe. Apparently Panacea and Glory Girl were there and saw the whole thing. They're saying it was the Empire. That Crusader fellow..."

The doctor looks at you both before sighing heavily. "Michael is uninjured now, Panacea does good work. But he'll need lots of food for the next few days to replenish himself so it'd be better if you stayed. That and we've contacted a caseworker, as is the usual course of action. They'll be able to find you suitable housing accommodations. They should be here in a few hours. If you need anything in the meantime, anything at all, just press the button." He says, indicating a call button on the side of the bed.
"I wish I could do more, I'm sorry."
And with those parting words, he leaves.

There's a terrible sense of despair in the room now, a sort of directionless fatigue that seems to permeate your very being.

Perhaps there's something you could do?

Now's as good a time as any to bring up your powers. Knowing you have a plan might help. [???]

That's what happened in Mike's interlude back in One Bad Day #6, which takes place three days AFTER Barnaby disappears.

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/2559832/

Mike gets a Tinker trigger from it – and just like how Barnaby becomes the Joker, Mike becomes the Comedian from Watchmen.

Not sure if Mike triggered from this event this time, but this happened differently than back in OBD. We're definitely not in the same OBD world though, thanks to VOID being a better writer and thanks to the reboot reboot.

Some context on Crusader:

>Crusader was a neo-Nazi; he believed that he was a patriot, that America belonged to a certain kind of people, and that it was being "polluted" by "people with differences".

>He regarded himself as a "simple man with simple tastes": he was heterosexual, a fan of American football, enjoyed steak and potatoes and a good fight. He disliked organizations that he felt were overly focused on the "big picture" to the exclusion of ordinary Americans, like Gesellschaft.

>Crusader wears armor and carries a ten-foot-long spear. He can create ghostly duplicates of himself and his possessions, which pass through inorganic objects, but not organic ones. The duplicates can float and lift him into the air, giving him a limited form of flight.

>He was "dimly" aware of the actions of his duplicates, and direct them mentally, although they appeared to operate with some degree of autonomy. Taylor speculated that they were "infused with fragments of his ego".

>Justin triggered when he was caught attempting to murder his developmentally disabled sister after years of her getting all the attention and being forced to undergo transplants to help her.

Nasty piece of work

Christ, this whole day has been one long bad decision.

And this might have been one of your worst.

Melissa Campbell, your mom. One of the two things in your life that really gave it meaning, and now she's just lying there. You can't see her face through the bandages either, the only thing that would even clue you in would be her general height and the label on the door.

In the end, all you can really do is set at the end of her bed and ponder why? What went wrong, would it have been different if you'd stayed in today? You should have been there, you could have done something if you weren't suddenly too good for your family as soon as you had a way out.

Too busy joyriding with the heroes, now your brother has four bullets in him. Taken while trying to do your goddamn job. You open your mouth to say something, to apologise. In the end, there's no point to it.

She can't hear you any way.

Say something for god's sake.

But you don't.
[???]

The next few days pass in a blur, you meet your caseworker a few hours later. A very proper looking woman named Agatha, who fits her name to a tee. White hair and tiny glasses making her exemplify the lovely old lady stereotype. She takes you and Mike out of the hospital practically as soon as they let her, and puts the two of you up in her guest room until the paperwork gets sorted out.

Apparently Mike and you are going to end up in an actual orphanage if nothing changes. Obviously you were aware that they were a thing but you'd never had the context before, placing them in the same mental category as horse drawn carriages and chimney sweeps, relics of old books and tv shows.

That's how you find yourself staring at the roof of an unfamiliar room, trying desperately to sneak in a few moments of sleep past your anxieties. And you find yourself asking the question.

What the hell do I do now?

Tell your brother about your powers, and maybe joining the Wards. It'd be cruel not to.

Waving it in his face that you're "Special"? that it's all okay now because your bro can make weird metal shit? Mike's a kid, but he's not dumb. Screw this superhero shit, your brother needs you.

He does, which is why you need to make the call. They have to take care of you if you join, and looking after Mike could be a condition. Too risky to tell him though. You have to keep him away from cape shit. It's far too dangerous for him to know.

You sit up from the couch you were previously napping on, looking over to the bed where Mike lies, occasionally shuffling back and forth in his sleep.

"Hey, you awake?"

A second of silence then...

"Yeah? You can't sleep either huh?" He rolls over to face you, yawning as he mirrors your posture, propping himself up with his elbows.

You finally relax your lip muscles, pulling them out of the slight grin you'd managed to keep them in and letting them rest as a full on smile.
"I've been thinking for a while, and I've got some stuff I've gotta tell you. A couple days ago I got grabbed by the ABB, remember how I came home uh, shirtless and smiling?"

"How could I forget? That was weird as hell."

"I got powers Mike, I'm a Tinker. bendy too. I got away by stretching my hands out of the cuffs they were keeping me in."

"No way..."
Almost immediately he goes from tired and kind of depressed looking to awake and in cape fan mode. sitting full up in bed now, with his hands on his lap.
"Have you built anything yet? have you got like a... secret base or something full of superscience. Can I see it?"

You actually laugh at that, one of the few real ones you've done since your Trigger. You shake your hands in front of your chest while you calm down and catch your breath. "Hold on there Mikey, it's only been a few days bro, chill. And to answer your question yeah, I built a machine that makes this weird metal. I was gonna use it to make more stuff but then uh."

"What?"

You decide to embellish just a bit, it is your brotherly duty to make yourself seem as cool as possible after all.
"I kicked Stormtiger's ass is what happened. He was all, "don't be stupid, be a smarty. etcetera" and I was like "Nahhh" He never saw it coming."

"That's insane, whe- when did THAT happen?"

You give him an exaggerated shrug, smug smirk in full force.
"Like last week, no biggy. Just sort of happened. Now he's in Protectorate custody. I may have gotten to meet both Armsmaster and Assault. They were okay you know, for people who aren't me."

He's covering his face with his hands now, practically turning green with envy.
"Oh god, please don't tell me you made any jokes."

"My jokes are grea-"

"Your jokes are Terrible!"

Then you look him dead in the eye, smirk reaching maximum power.
"And if I pull this off right, neither of us will have to go live in a damn orphanage."

You raise a finger as he goes to interrupt, speaking slower now as it finally comes out.

He looks a bit confused at that, happy but confused. "Can you do that? I can't shoot lasers or anything. I can't join the Wards."

"Yeah, but if they want to keep me then they'll have to look after you too."

You get up as you say this, trapping your little bro in a headlock and noogie-ing him mercilessly.
"We're a package deal alright, they want me then they have to look after you too. It's my job to look after you." You let him pull out of the headlock, giving you a thump on the arm as he goes.
"I was gonna give them a call tomorrow, explain the situation and see what happens. You in?"

"Hell yeah." He says, hugging you around the chest. "I love you bro."

"Pfft... weirdo."

"Fuck you too.

Aggressive, you know exactly what it is you want to achieve here. You're going to push until you and your little brother are taken care of.

Try to lean on the empathy of whoever it is you end up talking to. That might work.

Honestly? They WANT us where they can see us. Instinctively lobotomizing someone? Someone is capable of that, you don't want them out on the streets by themselves where they might get nabbed by the gangs of the city.

Speaking of the lobotomy, it's gonna bite us in the ass when Mike eventually learns about it - hopefully he's understanding enough when the time comes.

The phone picks up, and you wait only a few seconds to figure out who's on the other end of the line.
"Campbell, I was going to call you later."
Armsmaster, Perfect.

You dig deep, inhale... and let loose your inner god of death.

"Hey! Armsy. Good to hear from you again buddy, how's Dragon? Good, great! Anyways, About the Wards thing. Ran into a tiny snag at home, bit of an inconvenience. Really it's tiny... Just need a quick teeny tiny itty bitty favour."

He recovers from your vocal tirade worryingly quickly, for a second you thought you had it but given how much thought he's giving this you might not have managed to put him quite off guard enough.

"That depends on PRT regulations and the legality of the favour in question, in addition I am currently on patrol.-

Shit, that's worrying, he's already rallied. Activate phase two.

"Really buddy you want to hear this, it's pretty basic and if the answer's no it's enough of a deal breaker that I might as well go somewhere else. See me and my kid brother are kinda low on places to go at the moment, being." Your breath hitches for a moment, but you hide it behind the smile and keep talking.

"Between legal guardians. I know the Protectorate's gotta take care of Wards, but I thought I'd call in and quickly double check what exactly it is that you're gonna do for my brother. Who is now the only member of my family walking around upright."

Armsmaster stops trying to break through the wall of words for a moment, eventually, you hear a grunt before he cuts in with his own, slower contribution to the (previously rather one sided) conversation.

"The Protectorate does all it can to ensure the safety and wellbeing of it's Wards and their families, however in the case where orphans who are not Wards are concerned. The usual authorities have jurisdiction. Your brother will be best off in the systems already in place."

A fucking canned reply, your blood boils as you start all but yelling down the line, previous tactic all but forgotten.
"That's not good enough man. I'm not letting my brother getting sent of to some random orphanage where he'll get picked up by gangers. I'm all he has left!"

There's a long moment, but when he does speak again, it's not so emotionless as before
"I'm sorry..."
Not that it's any better of an answer.

Shit, time for one last push.

D20+1 lads.
It's time.

"Dont! Give me that Shit! I thought I was talking to Armsmaster, best Tinker in the Protectorate and Hero Captain of the East by Northeast. I came to you because you were highest goddamn authority I could think of."

He recovers quickly, contrition becoming anger as you turn a week of grief and fear in his direction.

"I have to do what's best for everyone boy, not just you. I have the people of this entire city to protect, if you aren't willing to sacrifice a single attachment, then-"
He stops, just for a second. but that second is long enough for you to get really mad, and say something you're almost certain that you'll regret. You pull out the nuclear option.

"I've sacrificed enough, Armsmaster. My mother, my home. If you can't help me look after Mike, there are others who can."

Then there's silence on the line, from both of you.

"Let's not be hasty."
You can feel the anger under the smooth veneer of passivity he's putting up. But at least he's taking you seriously now.
"I will speak with my superiors. Expect a call within the hour."
Those last few words come out like something foul. Hissed from between clenched teeth.

You sigh, and wait until the call disconnects. There's no doubt in your mind though that it's done. At a cost yes, but your family come first.

Always

With a flick of an eyelid you close the call, performing a perfect U turn back to base. Piggot needs to hear of this complication as soon as possible, and you've got to head off any potential negative ramifications to your career.

Another Tinker would be a feather in your cap, but a rogue tinker with an axe to grind against the PRT? Complete mission failure, an unacceptable result.

Maybe you should be more understanding, Colin? He has a line in the sand, same as you. Only his is actually altruistic.

"Colin, you could have dealt with that much better."
That hits you like a ton of bricks. You forgot Dragon was listening in.

"It's out of my hands, the Youth Guard would never stand for it. It'd be seen as us extending our jurisdiction to unpowered individuals. Even if Piggot agrees to it the higher ups never will."

"So tell him that... I looked through the news cycle as well. Colin, two days ago his entire family was either hospitalised or killed. Did you expect him to be acting rationally?"

You always hated when she did this, it made you feel like a child. Standing in front of a disapproving parent.

"That doesn't change whether or not I can help him. I want to, but even now There's almost no chance of it happening. What could we do anyway? House him with the other Wards? That would put them and their families in danger."

A heavy sigh escapes your lips before you can quite stop it, and you furrow your brow as you reach the force bridge.

"I have to protect this city, everyone is looking up to me. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of one."

You're doing what's necessary. If you were the hero you pretend to be, it wouldn't hurt.

Fin.

You get your answer an hour later on the dot. Text format as well, which you can only guess is to stop the situation from escalating.

PRT EMPLOYEES ETHAN AND MELISSA CARMINE HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO ADOPT YOUR BROTHER, SHOULD YOU JOIN THE WARDS. THIS IS THE ONLY OFFER WE CAN MAKE. IF YOU FIND IT ACCEPTABLE, BE AT THE PRT BUILDING 14:25 WITH CASEWORKER AND BROTHER IF HE KNOWS ABOUT YOUR POWERS. I RECOMMEND YOU DELETE THIS MESSAGE AFTER READING

That's more like it, not perfect certainly but better than the flat "no" you got before. The tone of the message rankles you, but you can't exactly blame him for being a bit standoffish. Not after threatening to go villain.

You head back in from the garden, smiling to Agatha as you head into the front room where Mike's watching the Mouse Protector show.
You'd never tell anyone, being almost an adult and all, but the Mouse Protector show is fuckin' rad. Like old school Spongebob.

"I think I got it man. I think I might have pissed em off a bit, but eventually they gave me a fair shot."

He looks around at that, muting the show as he turns, wide eyed and smiling.
"Nice, what'd they say?"

"Well, I'd be a "Ward" (heh) of the state, but two of their employees volunteered to adopt you officially. It'd mean I could still visit you outside of "work" And yes you do finger guns, because any excuse to do finger guns is a good excuse.

Mike goes quiet for a bit after that, emotion clearly dividing him somewhat as he thinks through it all.
"It wouldn't be permanent right? It'd just be until Mom wakes up?"

That's a fuckin' question.
In the end, you decide to go the safe option.
"Probably, the doc said it should only be a few months, so it'll probably be over before you know it. It all depends on if you're comfortable with new people though."
You look him straight in the eye, pulling your smile down to make your face as serious as you can.
"It's you and mom I care about alright? If you don't want this then just say so. I'll find another way."

"I'll do it. Plus, it's not like they can be worse than Dad right?"

Right. Now we've just got to tell Agatha.
Cont

Convincing Agatha that you're a parahuman is as easy as feeding the contents of her trashcan into your fabricator and dropping the metal sheet you get onto the floor edge first.

Which it quickly cuts through, of course. It doesn't seem to stop at any point, but that's the Yangban's problem now.

Translator's Note:The Yangban is the chinese shadow government.

Agatha seems somewhat put out by your lack of communication when it comes to planning this. But she seems to understand once you explain that you didn't want to tell anyone ideally. In the end though, the two of you finding a temporary home until your mother recovers was always the objective, so she's very supportive once it's fully explained.

Then, a few hours later you find yourself walking into the PRT building again, alongside a larger group of tourists that you assume are here for collection and searches before they go on one of the Rig tours.

Instead however, the three of you are taken aside and hurried into a waiting room outside of the office belonging to Director Piggot, head of the local PRT.

You wait there for quite a while, and the nerves are just beginning to get to you when Mike leans over and gives you a shoulder bump. "You've got this. If you act even a tenth as cool as I know you are, they'll be begging you to join."

You choke out a quick giggle at that. Then the door opens, and you're all called inside.

I have a Dark Heresy game now. So the next update won't be for a few hours. Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Okay guys, let's discuss. How would Barnaby get along with the Wards?

For reference, the Wards are (pic related, left to right):
>Aegis: Wards leader. Capable, smart, with something to prove. His power basically makes him a flying cockroach with shittons of redundancies - "blinding him allows him to see by sensing light through his skin, cutting his throat bleeds no more than cutting the back of his hand, cutting off an arm would only last until he could get it reattached and stabbing him in the heart means that other organs would take its place." He can literally survive being decapitated.
>Gallant: A real knight in shining armor type, the armor gives the intentional false impression that he's a tinker. Fires concussive energy blasts that affect peoples' emotions specifically. Also senses emotions in a range around him.
>Glory Hole (New Wave): Miss Traumatized Sequel Protagonist of Ward now, dumb flying cunt of Worm then. Enough said. Fear/Awe aura, super strength, flight, body force-field.
>Vista: Strong contender for best girl of Worm, despite being only 13 during this time. Super-powerful space warper.
>Cockblocker: Strong contender for best boy of Worm. Joke master, observant, willing to work with villains when needed. Timestops objects he touches somewhere between 30 seconds and 10 minutes, with no control over duration.
>Shadow Stalker: Possibly worst girl of Worm. Muh social darwinism, muh pretador and pray dichotomy, muh alpha bitch. Severely influenced by her shard after triggering, which doesn't make her any less unsympathetic. Can shift into shadowy breaker state to phase through objects, which she can pass onto her equipment. Extremely vulnerable to aerosols, electricity and stalling in place.
>Kid Win: Smile on the outside, self-doubt on the inside, also with ADD and dyscalculia fucking with his tinkering. Thinks his specialization is advanced guns, but much later finds out it's actually multi-utility modular devices with alternate settings.
>Shielder (New Wave): Family powers of flight, energy beams, and force fields - except his force fields are godlike while his flight is snail-pace and his light blasts are shitty.
>Laserdream (New Wave): Family powers of flight, energy beams, and force fields - except her flight and lasers are godlike, while her force fields are shitty. She also has motion sickness which really puts a dampener on her sanic speed flying.
>Pancake (New Wave): Possibly worst girl of Worm. Constantly guilty, constantly lonely, constantly depressed. From constant exposure to Victoria's awe aura for years since being first adopted, becomes 100% gay for her. This leads to her under endless stress, resulting in her eventually ruining everything for everyone in the worst ways possible. Biokinetic, can modify any and all carbon-based life - one of the most OP powers in all of Worm on one of the worst fucking characters ever. Ugh.
>>
>>3230933
I don't really see any problems with getting along with anyone except the obvious- Glorified Girl might be hit or miss. Shadow Dicksucker and Pannacotta can both go jump in an acid vat for us.
Perhaps we could experiment on Aegis or convince Kid Win to specialize in bio-stuff too.

Your first Impression of Director Piggot is one that can only be described as presence. The instant you enter the office there is no doubt that the Iron Battleaxe in front of you is director Piggot, and Piggot is she. If asked what the chances were for her to have a gun in her drawer, the answer would be yes.

When you get past her intimidating presence Piggot herself is a tall and overweight woman, with pallid skin and quite a bit of fat on her, but she wears it like a battleship's armour.

Seriously, all she's doing is glaring at you and this woman is fucking terrifying.

"Mr Campbell." She begins. "it's good to finally meet you. Your requests caused us quite a bit of trouble, but it's good to see you make the right choice in the end."

You choke back a giggle as she looks over the folders in front of her. This is not the time for laughter. There's nothing you can do about the shit eating grin though, it's taking all your effort to just not burst into terrified laughter, which would be the exact wrong response.
"Yeah, sorry about that. Gotta look after what you've got right?"

"Yes, there's just a few things we'd like to clarify and some paperwork to fill out. After that you'll be brought to the Rig for power testing and after that you'll be introduced to the other Wards."

The menacing aura she had cultivated earlier relaxes as she starts listing off paperwork requirements and a few basic rules to follow. The banality of bureaucracy does wonders to calm the spirit, and you find it difficult to fear someone who's talking about how you need to stay in school.

"Mr Campbell?"

Ah shit, you were so into your inner monologue that you forgot to listen.

"I was asking whether you would prefer a transfer to Arcadia?" She just seems tired when she catches you not listening there, no doubt it's familiar for Wards to drift off when talking about school. "It's what we usually do, but one of our other Wards chose to remain where they were before for identity reasons. Naturally we would take every precaution when moving you, but some would rather not take the risk."

Move out of the worst school in town and into the best? Possibly at the expense of your secret Identity. Y/N?

"In addition, since you're here I trust you find our plan for your brother acceptable." Technically that sentence is a question, but she phrases it as a fact. "The Carmines live within the catchment range for Arcadia anyway, and his grades are to be honest, much better than yours. He'll get in as well, so long as your commitment to joining the Wards stays strong."

You pay much closer attention, but what comes after that is just more of a quick outline for what would be expected of you as a Ward. In order.

Don't do drugs.
Keep your grades up.
Follow orders.
Don't die.

She says it in paragraphs, but you can shorten it to those four basic principles. However there are a few special things for Tinkers that you do have to take notice of.

Cont
>>
"Anything you make with PRT issued resources is owned by the Protectorate until you turn eighteen and graduate into a full Protectorate member. They all must be tested and vetted by both our Image department and a specialised Tinkertech testing facility in Boston. And you are prohibited from the creation of anything that could in any way be considered "Self Replicating".

"You'll also be given a monthly budget for resources, but it's high enough to effectively be a formality. The only Tinker to ever have gone over budget is Artificer in the Kansas city Protectorate, whose equipment directly scales with how expensive the parts he uses are."

"There is a single Wards laboratory, and you will be expected to share it with the others, any disputes go directly to Armsmaster, it is entirely up to you to keep it clean, do I make myself clear?"

"Crystal."

After that there's some details she goes over with Agatha for your housing and food arrangements as well as something far more interesting. Pay.

Turns out you get 50k smackeroos into a trust fund every year on top of minimum wage. Which, frankly is quite a lot for what should come out to be roughly a twenty hour week on the "job".

To condense nearly two hours of talking into a few short sentences, the job comes with free room and board, a better school and damn good pay. All for the low, low price of maybe your life if you decide to fight any Endbringers.

"Well Mr Campbell, have I convinced you yet?"

Now if only she didn't look so damn smug.

Wards route unlock.
I mean, I think I can guess which way you guys are gonna vote.

Tinker, your specialty is something to do with molecules. You are also bendy as fuck and faster than before, but not supernaturally so. like a double jointed gymnast.

I'm gonna make a pastebin in a second. Probably should have done that before.

Subject's outer bone structure is extremely flexible. (see Exhibit A)

Bones in chest and skull not flexible. Arms and legs only Spinal muscles significantly stronger than height and muscular definition should indicate.

Subject becomes bored while data is recorded, begins handstand at encouragement from junior examiner (REDACTED)

Handstand continues for three minutes before falling over.

Subject rolls to his feet. Not quite perfectly, thinker power unlikely. Technique is examined and found to be lacking in several key areas.

Power tests proper.

Subject claims Tinker power, supplies proof in form of matter fabricator. (DEVICE A)
Device A seems to function by disassembling matter on the molecular level before reassembling it as a thin sheet of metal 3 inches by six. (Device B)

Device A is made out of parts obviously belonging to DVD player and sausage maker. precise mechanism unknown.

Device B Identified as Inconel 363 a theoretical alloy previously thought impossible to produce due to violent reaction when constituent parts are combined at high temperature.

Subject claims to have reattached own arm surgically after Trigger event. Subject presented with surgical tools and cow carcass, told to Tinker.

Tests partially successful. Subject enters fugue state (Exhibit B) and renders carcass down into constituent parts for unknown purpose. Subject uses testing lab materials to render chemical mixtures from the carcass and separates them into six distinct vials. (Exhibit C)

Vials are filled with a mixture of gaseous, solid and liquid pure elements. Subject hypothesizes that these mixtures were to be used as components for actual Tinkertech.

Possible mechanism for Incident-01674-STRMTGR
No inventions or resources to make improvised defence, proceeds to partially render down opponent into materials?

Hypothesis sent to WEGDEG Think Tank for analysis. Results expected within 5-12 days.

Subject expresses lack of knowledge regarding how or what he's creating during the Tinkering process. Fugue state a requisite for power mechanisms?

Subject visibly discomforted when asked about Incident-01674-STRMTGR.

Testing continues. No other anomalous properties displayed by Subject: Smiler

Ending Assessment
Tinker 5+ Rapid dissassembly/Molecular recombination specialty hypothesized. Possible hybrid Tinker, possible Non-Manton Single speciality.

Mover 1-2 Essentially just a double jointed human with a few years of Yoga under their belt.

What are the chances that Barn would ever have reason and/or desire to kill Taylor?
>>
>>3231681
She would have to threaten Mike for some reason. Currently, Taylor would not do that, but Skitter would.
>>
>>3231666
Addendum.
Subject claims extreme difficulty stopping himself from smiling. Initially mistaken at elation due to joining superhero group. Upon a second examination, a result of mutations in the muscle groups surrounding the mouth. Subject claims to begin laughing uncontrollably in stressful situations. Tests reveal no cause, but (RESEARCHER) hypothesizes that any changes to the brain would be undetectable anyway as long as they remained mundane.

Several animals produce sounds similar to laughter when threatened, angry or fearful. Hyenas, notably.

Possibly psychological. Hypothesis sent to WEGDEG on low priority. Answer expected within 3-6 weeks.

Reminder Tinkers can scan other capes' powers to incorporate them into the thing they're making, or build using that as a base. Ex. in Ward, there's a guy whose Blaster power is to displace and teleport parts of his body while keeping them fully functional. A Tinker scans this power and uses it to make a whip device that dismembers other people into giblets and limbs while keeping them alive and conscious, giving them a fate worse than death.

Yeah, scanning other powers is part of what makes Tinkers OP. Please keep this in mind guys.

"So how'd it go kid?" Your crimson clad guide queries as you're walked back from the power testing labs. The featureless steel corridors of the Rig thoroughly confusing you and throwing off your sense of direction. "You're a like a Tinker/Thinker or something right? Can't imagine how weird that must be. I always wondered what it was like being a Thinker though is it like getting the answer beamed into your head? or do you actually work stuff out?"

"I wouldn't know. I'm just a Tinker with bendy bones. Might not be Manton-Limited though, which the docs say is kind of a big deal."

He gives a double take at that, burning himself on his coffee and spilling more than a bit of it down his front.
"YEaAH!.. fu-er.. Yeah that's kind of a big deal. They explain why?"

You scoff at that. "Nah, they said it was "just one of many possibilities." and that Armsmaster would explain during the mentoring sessions when they happen."

"Oh shit, well the cliff notes version is that most powers can only do either organic or synthetic stuff. Armsmaster can't stick people together and Blasto couldn't build a robot if his life depended on it. If you can do both that gives you some pretty crazy tricks to pull."

"Are powers like that really so rare?"

Assault gives a shrug before tapping a panel on the the wall in an otherwise normal looking corridor.
"Not that rare to be honest. Clockblocker can freeze anything with his power, no matter what, while Vista can't warp space with people in it. It depends on the power and it's pretty much a coin flip."
He gulps down some the last of his coffee before continuing, flashing you a grin.
"Real lifesaver sometimes though, there's a villain in the bay called Faultline, she can cut anything she touches in half so long as it's not alive. Same with Krieg. Earlier on he liked to say he could use his TK to crush organs and stuff, gave people a real scare. Turned out he was full of it. Anyways we're here, welcome to the Wards quarters."

And with that thoroughly underwhelming statement he steps out of the way to reveal...

A quite nice front room.

To be honest you were expecting something a bit more superhero-ey. Holoprojectors and weird maps that go beep. Instead there's a retail projector currently on standby; A few really nice couches around what looks like a reinforced coffee table and a dining table with some leftovers on.

The Room itself is quite large, much bigger than your old front room. With one door going off to the side labeled "Rooms". An open doorway leading to a small kitchen and another door labeled "Console".

You suppose that's where the beepy maps are.

And lastly to your direct left, the fabled Workshop.

Not Armsmaster's private lab of course, but the Wards one.

"I swear Kid Win was supposed to be here..."

After a few seconds of waiting and a drawn out "Aah, I get it." Assault walks over and bangs heavily on the door to the Workshop, the reinforced steel ringing out as he smashes his hand against it. "Come on out Chris! It's the new guy!"

There's a small bang before the door opens, a visor-ed head you recognize popping through with a sheepish look. "Oh, hey. Sorry I was just optimising the power yie-and you probably don't care, right. Hi I'm Chris orrrrrrr." He ducks back into the workshop as he holds the word, Assault providing an improvised drumroll. "The Incredible Kid Win!" He comes out flying a hoverboard about half a foot off the floor, his red and gold armour practically gleaming in the synthetic light.

He's shorter than you by a good few inches, and kinda looks like Mike actually but with brown hair. Round features and an open face are pretty common you guess.

You've got to admit though, that hoverboard is rad as fuck. You wonder how he's powering it? It can't be nuclear, he'd never get it past testing.
And you just said that out loud.
"Wait, you're a Tinker too?"

You stick your hand up for a high five, your grin only intensifying as your brother in superpowers returns the brotastic greeting.

"Yeah, I'm weirdly bendy too. But that's only just weird enough to get me a Mover 1 rating. Apparently the wigs in testing think I might have something to do with molecules, you?"

He shakes his head at that and shrugs, a slightly uncomfortable look coming over his face.
"The Jury's out really, so far we reckon it's laser guns. I mostly build whatever seems cool though, like my hoverboard."

"That's rad"

He chuckles to himself for a moment before agreeing, puffing out his chest as he hovers slowly from side to side.

"Yo..."

"Yo?"

You look Chris dead in the eye, and in that second a connection, nay an understanding is formed. The kind of thing only two Tinkers can possibly comprehend.

"We should build some stuff. Wanna show me around the workshop?"

His eyes light up, and his smile almost rivals yours in it's sheer intensity.
"You know it. I'll show you the ropes rookie."

Then the two of you head through to the Workshop, entering that thin slice of heaven where spare parts abound.

Leaving a slightly bemused Assault behind.
"Is that how Tinkers who aren't Armsmaster socialise..? Wish I could do that with other Strikers... Wait a minute. Huh, guess it does work out like that."

The Workshop itself is almost as big as the main room but much more cramped, almost every available space taken up with welding tables and lab equipment of all stripes, there's even a few empty spaces for installing your own fabrication stuff. One of which you quickly avail yourself of by taking out your fabricator and turning it on, ready to start printing.

TINKERING 101 NEW AND IMPROVED SYSTEM.
Roll some D10's best of three. You get a number of parts depending on what the highest number is.

1-5=1
6-9=2
10=3

You want to build something one use and moderately effective. (think a special grenade) it costs one Part.
Build something permanent costs five to seven Parts depending on how big it is. This is stuff like Armsmaster's Halberd or Kid Win's Hoverboard.

PROJECTS are different, have special requirements and cost 15 to 20 Parts.
They will also have sick codenames. Think Armsmaster's nanothorn tech.

You can also use parts to upgrade things from level 1 to 5 using one of three upgrade paths.
Agent Of Chaos=Pure Power, combat Tinker stuff. This is power armour and passive buffs to stuff. You want your boost boots to have proper flight? upgrade it with this.

Trickery=Side effects and single target special abilities. Anything that confuses your enemies goes here, as well as less direct combat buffs. You want your cards to home and return to you? level one in trickery.

Ringmaster=This is if you want to make yourself a Master/Shaker. Anything that manipulates a wide area or controls other people goes here. A power armour suit with rank five Ringmaster might constantly leak a chemical mix that affects enemies.

You can also mix and match, putting a few levels in Ringmaster before adding a level of Trickster to cap off your fancy new shoes or whatever.

Roll me some D10's lads.
You're Tinkering with another Tinker, so get an extra part on top of whatever you get.

"So what's free to use, I know I can buy parts using the budget later, but-"

"The terminal in the corner's how we place orders, just go through the catalog and order what you want. You can use my spares for the moment though, since we don't exactly want to wait two to four days ."

Chris is quick to walk you through the lab and tell you where everything is. At first he seems a little nervous given the Lab's disheveled and honestly pretty messy state, but after a while you can see the method in his madness. and it really starts to click where everything is. Welder next to the metal scrap, Wire coils kept next to the fire extinguisher. Honestly it's fairly practically set up.

It just looks like junk is piled everywhere for no reason.

Kid Win leans against the side as you go into the drawers for test tubes, pulling out four or five and immediately discarding two for reasons not entirely within your comprehension."Hey Chris, do we have a sterile storage unit? I'm gonna need something to keep pure elements in."

"Yeah, man. Just over here."

The next two hours passes quicker than you've ever felt time pass in your life, but unlike before you're not nearly as blank minded. The actual calculations behind what you're doing is still a mystery of course but whenever you sink into that grey fog Chris pulls you out with some insight or piece of advice.

It's actually pretty helpful.

You end up with a vial of... green stuff and lots of notes, which you reread once you're fully cognisant. Huh, turns out you've made some sort of neurotoxin.
You quickly label it "fragile" like a responsible Tinker. It's a bit disappointing though, fat chance of that getting through Image.

Eventually the two of you wind down from the construction high. Chris having mostly observing and taking the odd note on your chemical methodology. "I don't usually work with chemical tech that much, I'm more of an electronics and physics kind of guy... but I think that might have been a mistake. You don't mind do you?"

"Nah it's cool."

After that the two of you head out to the main room and eat reheated pizza, which somehow has retained the stringyness of it's cheese.
"Oh, I totally forgot. Aegis and Gallant should be back from patrol in an hour or so. So you'll get to say hi to them. I'll probably have to head home afterwards, but it was really nice meeting you Barnaby."

"Nice to meet you too man. I should probably go check out my room though, got to put my stuff away."
You get up and look around for your bag, before facepalming and grabbing it from the Workshop.

Money, Influence and Power. These are all things that men measure their worth by. But you know them to be fools. Imbeciles not worthy of true knowledge.

You know that the only way to truly measure how far up in the world you have gone... is by the size of your bedroom. And in that respect, you certainly are doing better.

Your new room is, while a little bit sparse, much bigger than the glorified closet you had in your old house. The bed is bigger and magnitudes more comfortable as well, you're pretty sure these are silk sheets. Silk Motherfucking Sheets. Yeah, you can live here.

Sure, there's some attachment to your old house, but that was never because it felt like a home. It was the people there. Mom and Mike. Now, you actually like being in the place where you sleep. That's a hell of a change. You contemplate giving your brother a quick call, but honestly you're far too tired.

You'll have a quick nap and call him later. Just close your eyes for a bit.

BloodonasilvercardshavedmenlaughingthemselvestodeathsendAlabasterbackinabox

You're woken by someone knocking on the door. You're tired still, but only a bit. You get up and stretch as your yawn drowns out rock concerts in Europe.

"Woah, rough night?"
You're almost bowled over by sheer awe as you open the door, possibly the single most attractive woman you've ever seen standing behind two peons, just outside your door.

"Vicky, aura."

And then it's gone. And there's an (admittedly) still very attractive blonde stood outside alongside Aegis and Gallant, still in their costume but sans helmet.

Said blonde (who you now recognize to be glory girl) waves and smiles as she introduces herself.
"Victoria, nice to meet you too sleepyhead. Care to introduce yourself?"

You make a bit of a face at the Aegis, whom you identify via costume, his rust red bodysuit specifically.
"Yeah, she can know. She's on the approved list and even if she wasn't, Dean would end up telling her."

"Dean" at least has the dignity to look a bit ashamed, a somewhat sheepish "Hey" not exactly disproving Aegis' point.

"Fair enough then. I'm Barnaby. Newest Ward and Tinker, nice to meet you." You look around, not noticing Chris anywhere. before sidling through the small crowd and placing yourself on a couch. "Has Chris already gone off? He was here earlier.

"Yeah, his parents get antsy if he doesn't stay over at their place most nights." Dean rather quickly chips in, before sitting down next to Victoria across from you. "Dean Stansfield by the way." he says, reaching across the table to shake your hand. "I don't think I've seen you at Arcadia before, you go to Immaculata?"

"If only. Winslow for me. I'll be switching soon though. Standard Wards deal.

This time it's Glory girl that answers, smiling rather brightly while cuddled up against dean. "Look forward to seeing you around then. It's always pretty cool to see a new face."

"I'm Aegis as you've probably guessed, just call me Carlos though. I'm the Wards leader. and resident punching bag." Carlos himself is tall and darker skinned, possibly hispanic. Shorter than you, but significantly more well built.
"When you're cleared for patrols and public events, I'll be the one giving you your assignments. You're a Tinker though right? so that might be a while."

"Yeah, I mean All I've got at the moment is some sharp cards and neurotoxin, and I'm gonna bet neither of those get past Image."

That gets a few laughs, and before long you're trading banter with the three. Honestly if all the Wards are this friendly then Hey, things are really starting to look up.

"I'm just saying, we've got to make you look heroic, and half of that is making you seem approachable."

Why do all these outfits make you look like a clown.

"Look okay, we get it, you're a Tinker. You need to change your stuff eventually and your persona evolves as your gear does. But we've got to go with a theme."

You refuse to wear shoes over three feet long.

"You'd think the smiling and laughing would be a good thing, but doing that while beating a guy's head in makes you look like a psycho, there's only so many things we can go with here."

You always knew you were going to have to make concessions. It's time to choose.

Look I've got a sense of style, I'm not going to design the edgiest possible costume, alright? I get it. Image is important, but I don't even know what i'm building yet. If you really don't like what my cotume ends up being, we can sit down and figure it out once I have a starting point."

The somewhat sleazy looking man on the other side of the desk practically squawks in indignation. "I'm trying to give you a starting point."

"CLOWN SHOES! NO. I have dignity and self respect, I will be classy. And you bet your ass, I'll come up with my own damn name."

The rest of the meeting continues roughly down this line of conversation, eventually you manage to make a deal that as long as your name is family friendly and you aren't to quote the man, "visibly militarised" you'll have creative freedom.

Charisma check to get Power armour through Image receives a -3

Later that day you find yourself talking briefly with Chris again before he heads out on patrol with Gallant. Apparently Clockblocker's at home for academic reasons and Vista's been frontloaded with hours, so you find yourself mostly alone. Aegis is on the console, you could listen in, but you also don't want to disturb Them on what could be some really important stuff.

You've not seen hide nor hair of Shadow Stalker.

five more minutes to vote from now.

Light armour is essentially a full costume. But all it does is protect your identity and body. You would get to put one level of something on it however.

Ringmaster, Trickster or Agent Of Chaos. that is.

You would'nt need to roll to actually make it however. That's what the parts are. They're a way of representing, how much tinkering you've done.

Considering your earlier altercation with Image, you decide that perhaps it might be best to come up with that fabled costume design before they decide to force large shoes on you. Or a red nose...

The very thought of it makes you shudder. So you throw yourself into the Workshop, carefully placing aside one of Chris' new plasma pistols. Then you start slowly pulling threads of alloy out of your fabricator and weaving them together. Using your molecular destabiliser mixture to attach the disparate threads together shortens your work by quite a while, and you slowly find yourself standing in front of an evolving costume. The main piece itself is a finely tailored suit with tails and braid along the sleeves and shoulders, like a mix between an old officer's uniform and the classier type of magician. The mask follows suit, a rather simple white mask with a smiling face. It serves to protect your identity wonderfully, and when looking in the mirror all you can see of your eyes is two green orbs. That isn't the best part of it though. Far more inspired is the gadget you manage to create with the leftover parts.

It, in essence, is a short ranged quantum entanglement manipulator, capable of subtly influencing liquids within it's area of effect. The manipulation is weak in terms of force, barely able to exert a few Newtons but the precision is incredible. Gallant comes in later, and you use him as a suitable test subject.

You whisper in his ear, from almost ten metres away. In Victoria's voice.

Seeing him jump is more than worth it. Not to mention, your whisperer also serves as a rather fetching silver pocketwatch.

Ringmaster's Garb MkI
5% Damage Resistance.
Whisperer:Can cause detailed auditory hallucinations, as well as cause loss of balance and disorientation to any single target within a ten metre range. Requires a target lock, but once locked no longer requires line of sight, and range increases to fifty metres.
???
???
???
???

>>3232868
This mask is exactly what I was thinking of.

You quickly hurry out to explain yourself before Dean get's Stranger tanked, but frankly it's really worth it. You've done it, made your first proper Tinkertech Gadget. And sure it's no Halberd, but it makes you feel clever, and that's what's really important here. You may have a tank Squealer, but I have a sense of smug self-importance. So we know who's really the better Tinker, don't we?

You eat Dinner with Chris, Dean and Carlos once they come back. Supposedly Vista will be in after this coming weekend, a statement that sharply reminds you, tomorrow is the weekend. Maybe you should make some plans?

Shadow Stalker comes in just as you're heading to bed, you only really see her long enough for her to scowl in your general direction though before she's in her room.

Well, you guess you'll introduce yourself tomorrow then.
>>
>>3232948
Can we max out each catagory with one item?
>>
>>3232951
It's more that you'd be maxing out an item with one category, but basically yeah.

You could go all Agent of Chaos with your boots if you wanted.

Might be a bit one note though.
>>
>>3232948
>Maybe you should make some plans?

Bro time, definitely bro time. Should shoot some ideas off him too, see what he can come up with. Not only would it be a fun thing to do but he might think up some shit we wouldn't have considered.

And it'll make him feel like a part of our Hero identity instead of simply someone being left behind. Again.
>>
>>3232954

>>
>>3232960
Bro time for real.
>>
>>3232962
Ah, I misunderstood the question.
No, you have five upgrade slots per item.
So you could have two Trickster mods and Three Ringmaster mods, or something like that.

Projects Create things so hideously powerful that there is typically little, if any way to improve them.

SMILEX is the ultimate crowd control device, seeping through gas masks and totally incapacitating anyone who so much as spends too much time in the cloud.

PROJECTS are the ultimate expression of a Tinker's art. The process of creation having more in common with a religious experience.

so no. for the short answer.

Tomorrow comes and you wake up bright and early. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and you're transferred to Arcadia in two days. Jesus Christ.

Welcome to Saturday Morning in the Wards Base.

Shadow Stalker is in full gear over by the TV, performing upkeep on her crossbow. Bit weird but Okay. Aegis is currently lying on the couch with a bowl of wheaties, and Chris is in the Workshop.

Shadow Stalker, AKA Sophia Hess was in a less than stellar mental state. She was angry at a great many things, a near constant state in her life but still not one she had quite learned to accept and move past. For instance, She was trapped as a bullshit Ward, forced to pull her punches against literal genocidal nazis and druggie scum, peddlers of filth who did nothing but kill and ruin everything. Mad animals that needed to be put down. A sickness was in this city, and Shadow Stalker was the cure.

At least she was before some fucker went crying to the PRT, and now she was stuck using tranquilisers and "staying out of danger." Right yeah, because that'd do everyone a whole lot of good when Hookwolf decides to take another "enthusiastic walk" around the local Jewish community.

That's what hurt the most about her probation. Not being able to make a difference. To put the scum and filth infesting her city in their god damn place. Sometimes the sheer nerve these uppity fucking prey showed was maddening. And she was stuck here with the boy scouts and the idiot Tinker.

That's what was making Sophia uncomfortable, not the madman sitting down at the breakfast table with a bowl of cereal. Acting as if he hadn't scooped out Stormtiger's brain on accident. She could understand breaking limbs, but leaving someone alive after taking everything away from someone like that?

What the fuck? Why the fuck is he smiling like that. Is he thinking about what happened? What's with that fuckin' grin?

The spoon comes up to eye level...

"You know. I don't think we've been introduced. I'm Barnaby."

A fitting name for a madman, like something out of a lovecraft book.

Accident her ass, this guy knew exactly what he was doing. By the Time the PRT got there he was still standing up.

"New Tinker, nice to meet you."

There was an insane BioTinker on her Wards team.

She wasn't scared... she could take him.

"Shadow Stalker..."

Then it got really horrifying. For just a second, almost imperceptible really. He stopped smiling. Then he was back to staring her in the eye with those piercing green orbs and showing his god damn teeth.

Only two years. Just two years until he's out.

Can you last two years?
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

You lean back and finish your cereal, partially to sate your hunger and partially to avoid one of the most one sided and awkward conversations you've ever had the misfortune of taking part in. You expected her to be a stone cold badass, not a shy edgelord.

Then again, that's a good way to not have to give speeches. "Shadow stalker broods in the shadow of a cathedral for two hours" was probably pencilled in for all her public appearances.

Damn but you wish you'd thought of that.

You try and salvage the situation with some Tinkering, but you're too distracted to really get anything done. I mean c'mon..

Sorry about that, I'm back.

A quick phone call later and you're walking down the boardwalk with your brother, stopping for ice cream as people walk past and rush every which way. One thing that never ceases to amuse you is the simple act of people watching. Taking a look at people on the street and trying to figure out who they are and what they're doing.

The discussion swiftly turns to your new living arrangements though, being a far more interesting subject for both of you. Obviously you can't discuss Ward stuff, but Mike can talk about his new guardians and you press him for all the newest news.

Apparently Ethan Carmine is pretty important in the PRT, but his wife disagrees enough that she laughs at most of his terrible jokes and doesn't mind taking the piss out of him now and them. It's good to see that Mike is happy at least.
After the Ice cream, you ask Mike if he wants to go visit Mom. There's more than a few seconds of hesitation but eventually he agrees that it's important.

Seeing your mom is somewhat less uplifting of a pasttime, but no less important.
Mike holds her hand for a while, then leaves when it gets a bit much. You stay for a bit longer, wanting to say something but not quite sure what.

Eventually you leave, and that's the end of the day. Heading back to the Wards building while life winds on. There's a quick visit from Velocity though, before dinner. He only popped by for a bit, so you don't know him that well. But his name's Robin, and he seems pretty cool.

Naturally after your high five you try and hit him with a "Too slow" which he utterly denies, Seeing it coming from a mile away. Pretty cool, as you said.

Apparently Image wants to see you again tomorrow. probably about your name.

That's Gonna be just swell, maybe one of the one's you came up with will be good enough for those vultures.

Disheveled suits, patched up trousers and a weary look accentuated by the maniacal laughts. A bit too anti-heroic perhaps, but we have enough compromises as it is.

Alternatively, go the Hotline Miami Route. Animalistic head in a mobster suit. It has the added benefit that our smile doesn´t show.

Oh FUCK. Manic's shadow casts itself around us.

I recently skimmed through most the One Bad Day threads, and I find the contrast between Manic!Barnaby's and Reboot!Barnaby's demeanor interesting.
Reboot!Barnaby not being quite as much unhinged as Manic could be a result of not going through the same isolation and Armsmaster mutilating, or VOID getting better as a writer... but me personally?

I blame the chem-vat bath. That was just a way for our Shard to have more influence on Barnaby's actions and mental state, wasn't it?

To be fair, he likely was and so was everyone else. It was set in the wild west, back then they basically drank whiskey for breakfast. Really, a ton of human history can be explained pretty easily once you realize just how much of the time everyone was at least somewhat buzzed.

That's Silver Bullet. All of Me (or Me Myself and I) was the last arc before the second reboot, with the escaped asylum patient Barnaby who had a pocket dimension and a party van.

Preparing yourself beforehand and coming into the deal with a good starting point makes fighting to not look like an asshole significantly easier. And it's pretty damn satisfying sitting down in full costume in full of the guy who sat there in front of you and said you had to wear greasepaint. Watching him immediately go into damage control is amusing too in it's own special way.

"C'mon man, I thought we had an understanding about helmets."

"Yeah, we did. This is a mask."

He sighs at that, leaning forwards in his chair as brushes his hair back in thought.
"Actually, you know what. We can work with this. I came into this expecting the worst, but honestly..." he gives you costume another look over. "I'm sorry kid, I came into this with a shitty attitude and it made things worse. I thought you'd be another Shadow Stalker. But you came in here with bright colours and a big smile. God knows that's more effort than Armsmaster puts in. You'r costume's pretty good, i'll sign off on it when I can. Do me a favour though? Try and emote more with your hands and body, it'll make up for not showing your face."

Well, shit. That was pretty unexpected. You sort of boggle for a second, having been fed horror stories of Image by damn near every cape you've talked to so far.

"You given some thought to any names yet?"

"Yeah, I've got a few..." You state cautiously, waiting for the other shoe to drop. "Hyena, Cardshark. Cardinal as well, partially for pun value. I'd definitely pick Card Shark if I had to go with just one though."

He nods. "Gotta admit I like that one too. Not as much as some of the ones we came up with, but they wouldn't fit the new aesthetic anyway. I have to say though, giving me such a definite no to clown or jester related stuff before coming in here with a ringmaster's outfit does send some mixed signals."

"Sorry about that. I uh... I've got some other stuff to run by you as well before I send it for testing."

"Nice, you do work fast. Lay it on me kid."

"First off- and hear me out here, it sounds bad at the start. First off I made this neurotoxin."

"hmmmm." Yeah you expected that response.

"Completely non lethal, or at least it should be. Mostly because it's too weak to do much. Just makes you giggle a bit and lose some fine motor control. It's basically just themed tear gas. I was thinking about putting it in grenades, or maybe a sprayer of some kind."
He shakes his head from side to side, a pensive expression on his face.

"Look kid, I'll be honest with you. No one likes to hear the word "neurotoxin" when it's coming from a Tinker. We can dress it up in pretty words as much as we like, but the truth is it puts people on edge. Doubly so what with the empire in town. You're blonde enough that certain people will start making gas chamber jokes. So you'll have to be really careful. Gimme a few days to come up with some way to spin it."

I feel like cape image and public perception might end up being a significant element of the quest somehow. Maybe it's early game thread 1 stuff giving that impression, but there's that and some other capeshit stuff settings don't usually get into, and that I don't think Worm gets into either. A lot of themes and concepts VOID can explore with this quest, see what happens.
>>
"Then there's my Alloy cards, they've actually already gone through testing, I just need your go ahead to bring them out."

"These the ones that cut through steel?"

You nod your head, somewhat reluctantly.

"Then I'm afraid that's a definite nada, at least for a couple months. Hear me out though kid. We're all aware of what happened between you and Stormtiger, alright. We're gonna try and keep it under wraps as best we can, but the PRT does have leaks. The Empire might not be able to make an actual move on it, given that they mostly play by the rules but they can sure as hell state that the new Ward is the Tinker who carved up one of their guys. If we send you out there with anything sharp then you'll go from playful trickster to dangerous psychopath faster than you can say "soccer mom". And those bastards will do anything if it means tearing the PRT down a notch."

He stretches his hand before continuing, looking awfully serious now. "Maybe I might be able to swing it for High rated Brutes like Krieg or Hookwolf, but even then you'd be on pretty thin ice kid. Show us you can be trusted, make people like you, and you can get away with more."

"In the meantime, I suggest sticking to energy stuff and blunt force if you can make that kind of stuff. If it turns out you can't then come back to me."

A bit disappointing, but you suppose it makes sense. Still, it was only components, you're not sure why everyone's so hung up on it.

Anyway, you head back to the Wards room.

Shadow Stalker and Chris are on Patrol while Gallant's on console, you could listen in, but you still have so much to do.

>>
>>3233273
>Tinkering time.
If anybody asks, we say we're trying to get some shit done because Image is on our ass.

As for what to Tinker, I think we should keep in mind our specialization: Rapid disassembly and molecular recombination. A substance that converts concrete into superglue? Something that works rapid recombination to combine ambient oxygen and nitrogen into nitrous oxide? A spray that temporarily alters the rods and cones in a victim's eye receptors through a chemical manner, causing them to see a psychedelic haze of colors, or having extreme difficulty telling light from darkness?

You awaken from your creative trance some time later, in roughly the same situation as the first time you tinkered with Chris.A strange vial full of strange liquid, and a lot of hastily scribbled notes.

Reading through said notes, you realise first that you have significantly worse handwriting in your trances, and secondly that you've just made some kind of physical stimulant.

Apparently when ingested or injected, it should dull pain and cause a massive adrenaline surge. Or at least that's the theory.

Worryingly, the list of side effects is just labeled Yes.

That can't be good, so you label it and put it through the transporter leading to Testing, and after thinking for a second you copy your notes and send them in an email
Hopefully you'll get it back soon. That could be rad.

Then you remember you're back in school, a different school. but school nonetheless.

The next morning goes rather quick for your tastes, missing your first alarm and only barely managing to make it to your (Suspicious Black Sedan)

Arcadia is the polar opposite of your previous place of learning, Winslow. Arcadia clearly has better janitors for one thing, the glaring lack of gang signs or peeling paint. Instead it's almost like a fancy college. The walls are made out of dark, aged wood that you can practically smell the money in. It has Marble pillars like a fucking Greek temple out the front.

Guess you know where all the funding for Winslow went, holy shit.

Making your way to school, being driven by a PRT agent is a surprisingly smooth ride. Strangely though, the instant you get out and turn around to say goodbye, said black sedan is now a small buggy, with psychedelic imagery all over it like a hippy car from the sixties.

What's more, the severe and not particularly talkative Agent in full body armour, now is a massive hippie, beads, some kind of weird fabric tiara and everything.

You're honestly a bit stunned. It passes quickly though when other cars start to pile up and your "carer" waves goodbye, doing some weird Buddhist thing. You rally take a few steps towards the school before two very familiar voices call out from another car behind you.

"Hey kid, good to see you again."

"Barnaby! Over here."

Mike's getting out of an old Cadillac, his old bag flailing behind him as he runs up to grab you around the waist. "Yo, I didn't know we were coming in on the same day. This is awesome, we can get lunch together."

You're too busy doing a double take at the man leaning out of the car window, slowly making connections.

It's easy enough, all you have to do is dye his red hair brown, stick a mask on his upper face and boom.

"This is Ethan, the guy who's looking after me. He's so cool!"

"Ethan" waggles his eyebrows at you from the car before leaning back and waving, pointing to his watch as the short brunette at his side fixes her makeup in the car mirror. "We gotta get into work okay Mike, see you guys later. Nice to meet you too Barnaby."

"Hey..."

And with that they turn and drive off, the last thing you see being Assault's shit eating grin.

Apart from that world shattering revelation, nothing much happens until lunchtime. You head up to the Principal's office who you learn is named Mr Rigby and judging by the nod and wink he gives you when he mentions "your night job" he's thoroughly in the know. You spend most of the day's first half after that filling out forms and going through a few tests to determine your academic standards.

When you're handed the first paper, a standardized test for English Literacy. You think you do pretty well. It's one of those things where your ideas just kind of flow onto the paper. Not in a weird superpower way, but just a good day on a test that's all stuff you know. Winslow might not have been up there with Arcadia for resources or teachers, but you always busted your ass anyway. Now it's showing. and in a good way.

You have ten minutes still on the clock by the time you're finished rereading the first test to check for errors. Miss Hale, the examiner walks over, takes a short look through the paper, smiles and then replaces it with mathematics.

You never quite had the head for maths that Mike did, but you're still fairly confident you did well. Then the paper is replaced with a Chemistry test.

You complete a 50 minute test with 30 minutes left on the clock. And you Know you're in the 90 to 95% score bracket depending on how it's marked. The examiner is outright gawking now as you pass her up the Chem paper.

uh, maybe you should've chilled out a bit on that one.

The rest of the tests go a bit more normally. You're almost certain that your power is giving you an edge up in Chemistry, Physics and Biology, as those three end up being by far your best work. Maths and English are next, you're smart and hardworking, but not too far above average. You suffer in History, Religious Education and speak no other languages besides English. They're soft subjects, but you still manage average or slightly better in pretty much everything except Foreign languages.

Let's just say that Japanese and Mandarin were bad classes to be in for a white kid. German and French were off for similar reasons. Luckily back in Winslow it was an elective.

Not so lucky here though.

Then you're given an ID and sent out to get some lunch and socialise. You stick your bag in your locker and then decide to take a walk around and get to know the place. You've got an hour and a half for lunch after all.

The first floor is Humanities classrooms, second is Maths, sciences and the cafeteria. The third floor is offices, Languages and Art. seems fairly simple to be honest. And it's layed out so that pretty much everything can be seen if you just stand in the middle of the floor and look around. Huh. much better than winslow, which had no shortage of blind spots and winding corridors. You could really get used to this.

You're interrupted from your exploration with a long "Eyyyyyyyyy Newbie right?"

You turn, finding yourself confronted by a fairly attractive young redheaded bloke with blue eyes, festooned in Clockblocker merchandise.

"Yeah, that's me. You're Dennis right? I like your shirt, real subtle."

"Excuse me for being a fan." he says with a grandiose gesture, recoiling as if struck. "I wanted to come say hello man, welcome the new student. Let me guess, Carlos says I'm a bad influence."

How would you all feel a bout a low top hat as our costume?

How would you all feel about rigging it up with a smaller, more advanced version of our Inconel fabricator inside said hat?

Or you know, something like an invisibility gadget. I'm not picky.

If we eventually went to Card Shark as our name, I would prefer putting on an actual shark mask with a suit. Divert as much as we can from the Joker ehile keepin our power´s theme.

>>

Sell it to me, Tell me how we can be a cheeky cunt with it?

Though amping up the speed of our fabricator, and holding the hat out to use like a machine gun would be nice.
Or maybe just having a fabricator in there where we say "And here for my next trick."

Also, minor lore note i just noticed here >>3230163 the Yangban is not a shadow government, it is the asian [read chinese] equivalent of the protectorate, and replaces much of their army functions. They operate on the command of the royal family, so power is still held by the government rather than by the organisation.

You finish off your plate of spaghetti while sliding around to the other side of Chris' table. Moving the the kind of smooth confidence that only people terrified of dropping something can really pull off. Channeling your inner twelve-pints-on-the-way-home drunk, you manage to seat yourself on the other side of the table with no spilled spaghetti and pen out, ready to help with math.

It starts off slow indeed, Chris has trouble with even some pretty basic stuff and you have to keep bringing his attention back to the work while explaining stuff, you keep at it though. He's not dumb, it's just that he keeps forgetting the more basic functions that keep equations together and making sense.

What you need, is some backup. Enter Mike. a quick phone call later and you're on conference mode. Your brother (who goes to the attatched middle school and is on his own lunch) begins explaining the why's that you can't quite manage. The theory behind how remembering to carry remainders actually works, and why it's necessary.

You spot Dennis and Carlos looking your way more than a few times, pleased and slightly

By the time you're finished with Lunch break, Chris has finished all but three of the questions and is visibly calmer.

You feel closer with Kid Win than before.

After that, you head back to the office where your tests were ongoing, the examiner lady evidently having finished most of the the ones you've completed.

In the end, you decide that getting another good bit of tech done takes precedence over some fun. Apparently Armsmaster's going to be going over patrol schedules with the Wards tonight, so that might include you. Best to be as ready as possible.

You get Tinkering, taking up residence in the workshop and once more allowing yourself to fall into the fugue.

This time instead of working on something entirely new, you grab a half finished project from before and start finishing it. You were distracted by the new stimulant last time, but it's not there now, and you're already almost done with this new creation.

After a few minutes it begins to take shape. A long gauntlet that covers the forearm and seems designed to fit snugly over the sleeve of your Ringmaster's coat. The top of it is covered in a tough Alloy plate, while the fingers are covered with alloy chain rings.

Far from a simple defensive gauntlet however, the Madman's Hand incorporates a miniaturized version of your Fabricator, allowing it to materialize any number of small tools or connectors made out of almost indestructible alloy.

Any tool that could conceivably be used one handed, the madman's hand can create. However it has a very small internal reservoir, so if the tool created breaks or is lost the fabricator must be refilled out of combat.

Madman's Hand
5% Damage reduction. Heavy Metal gauntlet.
Fabricate any small tool or interface with machinery once per Patrol/battle.

Feeling somewhat hurried, you send an email to your handler at Image with all the details and he gives it the okay. So as soon as it goes through testing you're good for it.
Chances are it'll only take a day or so.

You receive an update on your SMILE and stimulant mixtures as well, stating that they're almost finished with testing. Apparently they should also be good to go as long as no side effects manifest.

You're just clearing up when Aegis comes in, full costume and everything. "Hey CardShark." He's got a goofy grin on his face as he says that. "Meeting in Five, Armsmaster wants to talk strategy now that you're on the team. They're recorded, so bring your outfit and remember to use cape names alright?"

"Sure thing boss. Just let me get changed."

Your costume goes on quickly, the cuffs are a bit tricky, but once it's all on it's spectacularly easy to walk and move in. Not as easy to move in as it could be, but that's fine for now. This is only Mark 1 after all, and there's plenty of room for improvement. At least that's what you can tell yourself at the start. It's almost maddening as soon as you start actually walking in it, the more you move the more you want to take it back off and make adjustments.

You need some kind of elasticiser, maybe something that can be done to soften the fabric without sacrificing protection. A kind of-

"Card Shark!"

The hand on your shoulder stops you from falling back into a trance. Chris shaking you a bit to pull you out of your funk.

"C'mon man, we're waiting on you."

"Right, sorry.

All the wards are gathered around the central table, even Clockblocker and Vista, who you've not seen around before. Armsmaster is stood by the projector screen across from your fellow Wards, halberd in hand as he impassively glares around the room.

You're not sure how he can make a glare seem neutral. You think it might have something to do with his armour.

He turns to you while you hop over the couch, taking a seat inbetween Shadow Stalker and Clockblocker. Funnily enough, both of them look a little relieved.

"Last minute adjustments?"

You nod at that, smiling mask slightly muffling the verbal component of your response. "Yeah, I was just finishing up on something to give me a bit more oomph. You know?" Funnily enough that seems to please him, and you swear his mouth twitches upwards a bit.

"Good, a last minute check can be the difference between victory and defeat out there. Let's just hope it gets through the Image department." Then he looks away, and gets down to business.

"To anyone who hasn't met him yet, this is Mr Campbell, our newest Ward. He lives here in the Rig, as he is a ward of the state. For those who don't know or need a reminder, he is a Tinker we believe to specialize in molecule manipulation. He is somewhat mutated by his powers, causing him to laugh uncontrollably in stressful situations. This meeting is to begin his Patrol Schedule."

He clears his throat before pressing a button on the side of his halberd, prompting a rather complicated looking spreadsheet to pop up on the projector.
"Wards/Protectorate Coordination meeting 20th of March 2011 begin recording now." he says, zooming in on a specific section, revealing that it was in fact a particularly complicated schedule. "Part of your requirements as a Ward include dedicating a variable amount of time per week to duties including costumed patrol to discourage crime, as well as responding to certain reports that we receive from Brockton citizens and investigating ongoing minor criminal acts."

She "doesn't do brains" for reasons I honestly forget. We have the potential to do so and/or get her over her hangup. Plus separating her from GG helps to avoid some bad shit down the line.
>>3234346
I can go for some teasing and light bullying. Trash canning her again seems a bit much though.
>>
>>3234390
The whole brain thing is a mixture of fear that she'll change the person due to fucking with their hardware and an ingrained mini psychosis due to her "mother" psychologically beating in a black and white morality mindset when it comes to powers.

She's afraid of the slippery slope but she doesn't realize she's riding a train about to go off a fucking cliff.
>>
>>3234398
>fear that she'll change the person due to fucking with their hardware
I mean, isn't that justified after what she did to GG?
>>
>>3234402
Repair is not the same as alteration. She was so scared of possibly doing it that she could never seperate the two in her mind. Also GG's not entirely blameless either. Her aura literally conditioned people to become addicted to her.

You'd think someone would have tested for such a thing but that's worm for you.
>>
"Typically these patrols are done with a partner, either a full Protectorate member or another, more experienced Ward. And go on for no more than four to five hours every 48 hours. These patrols can be at any time, on any day. Sometimes you will be brought out of school to engage in patrols with your teammates. You will be expected to keep your grades up anyway."

He sweeps his head across the room as he says that and you swear you can feel Clockblocker straighten up just a little bit as the older Tinker pans across him.

"Card Shark, as a new Ward, your schedule will be slightly different until you accommodate yourself to membership. you will have less frequent patrols and when you do, you will be shadowing another pair of either Wards or Protectorate Heroes. Aegis has your assignments for the next month. He will help you remember them, but I recommend learning to memorize them on your own. Some of these occasions will be media events or public appearances other than patrols. You will be suitably prepared when they occur. This concludes the section of the briefing dedicated to you, do you understand everything I've told you."

"Uh, yeah?"

"Acceptable, now we will go over the patrol schedule for this next month. Pay attention Clockblocker, due to your academic successes the Director has decided to end your benching early. You're patrolling in two days time. In addition Vista has had enough time off to continue her patrol schedule as well.

Dennis' beaming smile and triumphant fist pump sets a good tone for the meeting. It's businesslike and weirdly formal, but everyone else seems to fall into it with well practised ease, which makes it easier for you as well. By the end of the meeting, you're starting to feel like an actual team member, not just a weirdo who let's superheroes chill in his front room.

Your teeth are chattering with a nervous energy by the time you go to sleep. It's good though, positive anticipation rather than fear.

But then that's more than normal to feel when your first patrol as Card Shark is in three days time.

Alright, I went skimming through the OBD threads again to find that old list of gadget ideas we might be able to use. I figure I might as well post the original list and we can brainstorm up some PR friendly versions of the more lethal stuff and modify the stuff that doesn't necessarily suit our ringmaster/Cardshark theme.

>Laughing Gas! Fear Gas! All kinds of Gasses to effect people in weird ways!
>Lupin III gadgets to evade capture/restrictions.
>Pocket dust.
>Various liquids.
>Water guns for our liquids.
>Toy bombs.
>Toy BANG! pistol, looks exactly like our real one we have so we can switch between them.
>Toy boxing glove that is also a power fist.
>Joy Buzzer that can switch between harmless and high voltage.
>Singular/Bouquet of squirt flowers that squirt our liquids.

>Not having a 'surprise slingshot' which shoots pellets full of surprises(like ground glass and failed toxic tinker substances) and custom grenades.
>Not having a missile launcher which goes shoots out a flag that says 'bang' which is a cover for the fact that the missile launcher IS the missile before it shoots off.
>Not having Borderlands 2 explosive tediore guns.
>Not attaching our strange metal creator to a gun and feeding it junk to shoot bullets.
>Not creating a toy cupid crossbow with customizable bolts.

>Giant Hammer made of our alloy can be charged to have a electric effect or a sprint to increase the stomping it does against enemies

>Metal bat with two buttons one is blue othe is red. The red buttong make spikes push out of the bat while the blue one releases a shock like a cattle poker or a shock baton. The hilt is covered in rubber protecting the user

>STICKY BOMBS! To stop those dam speedesters as well as to glue enemies tryong to persue us on the street imagine a bunch of police cars trying to chase us and we just throw a bomb that spray super sticky and rapid harden glue to stop then in place.

> Model our grenades after bowling pins: This has no practical use. I just think it better fits the clown aesthetic.

> Fake Bang Gun: Pull the trigger once and a bang flag pops out, pull the trigger again and the flag is fired out of the gun like a bullet. The tip of the flag itself is a disguised syringe dart.

> Crack-em-up serum: Injection into a person causes their soft tissues to slowly and painfully transform into glass.

Sticky bombs is a perfect Ringmaster upgrade tree gagdet already, and very easy to get past Image.

The metal bat with spiked/stun configurations we can easily adapt to cane form, just replace the bat's spikes for a short blade at the cane's tip to transform it into a spear.(This particular idea isn't getting past Image soon but it's good to keep in mind.)

Unrelated but I can't fathom what the hell Image was thinking with the clown aestethic. You CAN'T take a clown seriously. It's either going to be ridiculous, pathetic or straight up Nightmare Fuel depending on the person.

fucking sweet man.
1.) The laughing gas is still pending, but hopefully Image will give us the all clear to use it eventually. Fear gas we'll have a harder time. At least that's my guess it'd be harder. I'm 95% sure we could get away with smoke bombs and tear gas.
2.) I understand that it's supposed to help evade capture/restrictions, but how so?
3.) Gif related you can never go wrong with the pocket sand technique. In fact, we could get away with it right now if we can find some sand.
4.) Bear Mace mixed with ghost pepper juice.

Now the sling shot and metal bat I can see Image eventually approving, but the missile launcher and hammer not so much. Especially the Giant Hammer made of our alloy part. A giant solid metal bad would be too heave for us, that is unless we have power armor or decide to get juiced up.

For the sticky bombs and bowling pin grenades, why not just use the special foam that the PRT use to subdue criminals? At least that way I think it would cut the time and testing time needed to make them?

Well shit, I didn't even think about that. We should look into this.
>What is your opinion on slap on tranquilizer sticky patches?
I can't decide wether I want these sticky patches to look like actualy playing cards or not. On one hand, it plays into our cape name, on the other making them see-through would make it seem like our slaps alone are the suff of legends is a fantastic thought.

There was one other item on the old list that I still remember: a tiny tricycle that goes ridiculously fast for its size. It's a clown aesthetic, I know, but the mental image is too funny not to mention.

https://worm.fandom.com/wiki/Containment_foam
They already make the stuff. Surely they'd be willing to spare some canisters for us to modify. We could get that stuff within the day I bet, or fuck maybe sooner. It's their main use for subduing capes and criminals.
Speaking of containment foam, what if we make some that can expand faster and is more resiliant? An Instant cover in a can for unpowered PRT officers?

See through patches that dissolve. Leave no evidence and keep people believing we so strong we can knock people out with a slip.

Slightly overdone Eurobeat jokes aside, you now have me considering having a vehicle of our own. I doubt it can really happen until Barnaby is old enough to be legally allowed to drive. I'm thinking of a small dune buggy. I considered a bike but I don't want it to seem like we're trying to copy Armsmaster.

>a tiny tricycle that goes ridiculously fast for its size
We've got a good flow of great ideas in this thread. A tiny Tricycle means it's easy to transport and possibly make it fold in on itself, to possible fit in out top hat? Pic related if we can get it smaller, if only we could get Armsmaster to help make it. Lets rig the tricycle with nitro.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atuFSv2bLa8
Considering transport I think the PRT would be incharge of that, having their vans pick us up and drop us off where we're needed. But damn do I want a super tricycle we could carry around in a hat.
>>
>>3235230
Why stop at having just a tricycle in the hat? If we could get Armsy in on that project we could have an entire Hammerspace Storage in the hat.
...At this rate we're going to have so much confusion about our theme in-universe.

Tuesday 21'st of March 2011
Morning.

Getting up for school and going through those motions continue to be a minor source of irritation for you. The everpresent itch to fix your things in the back of your mind just grows stronger the longer you go. It's a mild annoyance sure, but you've already found yourself doodling on napkins more than a few times. It is somewhat comforting though, having a few hours of relative normalcy inbetween Tinkering and superhero stuff. Part of the best thing about Arcadia is the open gate policy at Lunch.

Yeah that's right, you can fuckin' leave and have lunch elsewhere as long as you're back by the time class starts again. If that was a thing in Winslow no one would ever spend more than a day in the place. It also rocks because you and Mike can go out to lunch together. There's so many good Italian places near the boardwalk it's insane. In a sobering thought halfway through your minestrone, you realise that it's probably the closest thing to "ethnic food" that the Empire won't firebomb.

Then there's the other reason that you're into the whole open door thing.

"What then?"

Dennis leans forwards with a sly grin, lowering his voice to a whisper as one of the few other customers who come to this tiny italian place draw near to order. "I knew he was trapped for a while right? But not how long, So I grabbed a bunch of paper from the printer he wrecked and plastered him with it, freezing it in place in layers so even if he unfroze there'd still be something sticking him in place."

Dennis could not give less of a fuck, and it clearly shows. Good at trig though, and that's what Chris is having the most trouble with at the moment so you brought him along, a decision you are finding it harder and harder to regret as the conversation continues. You can see why he's the unofficial "Child Whisperer" of the wards, Mike's damn near wet himself laughing almost a dozen times by the time you finish your meals.

It's unlikely you'll get much done mathwise this time around, but it's thoroughly enjoyable hearing your little bro nerd out and Chris could do with a confidence booster.

You hang with Dennis and Chris at school. gaining a better understanding of them.

After school that day, you're sent a message on your phone. A shorthand message from your handler in Image. How this man continues to find ways of being insufferable continues to elude you.
"Gauntlet gd, dnt call it mdmn's hnd pblc. Chm mxs aprved crrnt strhgt WORKING ON CARDS."
That's good news you guess.

You come home separately, but both Chris and Dennis are chilling in the Wards room, playing the original Halo on an old Xbox.
Most of the other Wards are still out, Vista being on Patrol already alongside Shadow Stalker. Aegis supervising on the Console.

Plug in another controller and rock out.
Ask Chris if he want's to do some cooperative Tinkering?
Just do it by yourself, best not to disturb him.

I'm back.

You take up residence on the couch, Chris handing you a controlled almost as soon as you've sat down. The three of you slowly start moving through the level, picking your way through Flood with shotguns and assault rifles. For a while the three of you mostly sit in a comfortable silence, only speaking to call out positions or coordinate your attacks on the alien menace. As the game goes on though, Dennis seems to get quieter and quieter, checking the clock above the projector more and more often. You consider asking him what's wrong but he gets up and leaves before you can muster the nerve, Chris pausing the game as he gets his shoes back on and leaves.

Dennis turns back to the two of you and stops before he's fully out of the door.
"I uh, I might stay at home after, don't wait up."
His smile's still there but it's forced, and he's quite clearly putting on a brave face.

Then he's off. And Chris is sitting awkwardly on the sofa, clearly thinking about what to say next.
"Sorry, about that. Dennis has... stuff to do on Tuesday. It's not really my place to say what. He'll probably tell you at some point.".

You briefly consider pushing, but Chris' expression stops that in its tracks. You remind yourself that you're the new guy here. The heavy stuff'll come out when they're ready.

You get some food and an early night.

School the next morning is more tiring than usual, and your redheaded comedian is conspicuously absent.

The others are in though, but sitting at different tables.

Chris is alone at one of the tables in the corner. Listening to an Ipod.

Carlos is sitting at another table with a guy you've seen a few times before. Apparently he's in Carlos' Math class.

One of the other students from your chemistry group is sitting over by the door, having finished his food already. You don't know him that well because he doesn't really talk much. Maybe go say hello?

I miss Manic too, but I think Anons wanted to do something else this time around instead of repeating what has already happened. Besides calling ourselves "Manic" would have been a bit tough to get past the PR sticklers that Image consists of, not to mention that Cardsark!Barnaby is a bit more stable metnally than One Bad Day!Barnaby wasso far at least. I'm actually slightly anxious about what our Shard might try to pull once we manage to complete the SMILEX project, a dive into a vat of that stuff this time around can only mean problems.
>Ah well, I can picture a ringmaster/suit theme In Joker colors at least still fitting pretty well.
I mean... the Joker does tend to dress like a ringmaster would, at least in the older comics and animations.
Speaking of. What IS the current color scheme of our costume? VOID didn't really go into it when Barnaby was making it in >>3232948

I assume the pants and coat are a deep/dark purple. Do we have a shirt+vest combo underneath the coat or just a button-up shirt? In either case, I picture tha shirt/vest to be green.

>>3240951
Huh. What do we do if Mike ends up as a villain this time around?
>>
Rolled 5 (1d20)

>>3241039
Nah man, we're a supportive big bro. Nothing will go wrong.
>>
>>3239653
This is Worm, and our powers are the same as OBD. I doubt things, or Barnaby, will be this stable for all that long.
>>
>>3240942
We had that one time where they caught Manic amid a crowd watching some king of protectorate presentation, I think, and she politely informed us we are a wanted fugitive. The details are a bit fuzzy.
>>
>>3241063
I really should make a post about how Barnaby's powerset relates to his greater backstory issues, but that's for next thread.

Could Cardshark's catchphrase be:
>I like to hedge my bets
>*Sinister chuckle*
>While tapping the side of his head

Just so we give em the impression that Cardshark's a precog

Or we make blackjack references with a tinkertech bat

>Can you say... Hit me?
>>
>>3241569
either of those are good
>>
>>3241569
Why not both?
>>
I like these.

Should we also have other card game lines?

>"Called your bluff!"
>"Shoulda known when to fold."
>"One should always keep an ace in the hole!"
>"Not running? Looks like you're a few cards short of a deck!"
>>
Did the multiverse stuff get canned with the reboot?

Cause it got gayer and gayer the longer it went on
>>
>>3241800
That's rude but yes. Yeah I stopped paying attention during all that too, but this is a restart all the way from the beginning-ish.
>>
>>3241976
The only Reason why it became a Multiverse thing in the first place is because we Fucked the dog so hard it turned it from one universe to a multiverse and then i think we became a Black Hole
>>
>>3242070
>>3241976
>>3241800
Honestly, I thought the multiverse stuff was the best part of the fucking quest. OBD was mostly just dumb fanfic OC fucking with canon for fun, not much substance, and only brainlets seem to have liked it. Here we have a different route, playing things differently, and things are a lot less retarded than back at OBD. It's good.
>>
>>3242128
All I'm hoping for at this point is to actually get to an end bringer fight.

I don't agree with him that OG One Bad Day totally sucks, but I have to admit he has a point. There was little substance to it, it was mostly
>NAT 20 OMG
>hahaha ASSmaster
>DA JOKER
Not to mention the out of wack progression of our power level. It was fun, but I think this reboot will be even better.

Have you noticed how Miss Militia never does anything noteworthy in fights with other parahumans?

Is her power as weak as it is portrayed? I would think summoning any conceivable hand armament with any sort of ammunition AND being trained in its use would be incredibly versatile and if need be deadly. Is she holding back all the time?
>>
>>3242724
The biggest she's summoned is a 10-foot possibly nuclear missile.
She can't have noteworthy fights because "summons guns" is a pretty lethal power and she has to avoid killing people unnecessarily as a hero.
>>
>>3242724
>>3242739
You'd think she could summon non lethal ammunition.
>>
>>3242796
Nonlethal doesn't work out so well against Lung and Hookwolf, but at the same time she can't use an RPG on Kaiser because of collateral damage. She has to find the perfect weapon for the situation -- do you think you could do it?
>>
>>3242807
...can Miss Militia load her weapons manually? I'm wondering if we could hook her up with some Laugh Gas rounds for a grenade launcher.
>>
>>3242807
It she's fighting lung or hookwolf, she can use lethal shit. Also
>prt
>caring about collateral damage
>>
>>3242821
She can, but she usually just resummons her weapons when they run out of ammo.
>>3242844
As unbelievable as it might sound, the PRT has to limit collateral damage since it supervises the Protectorate, and is thus indirectly responsible for Protectorate heroes' fuckups. Most of the damage is caused by villains and Victoria.

Have a nice day too anon

Nigga, fear and loathing and all of me were great, much better than the edgy retard crap in one bad day. Joining the wards this time will at least curb the lolrandumb this time around. I'm liking it much more

I hope the other two didn't get shitcanned

You're not, I'm just wishing you a nice day man

I think what we could have had as an interlude, not to mention zalgo text echoes and shit here and there, all confirm that the other previous timelines DO still exist.

>Worm Quest Return (not One Bad Day anymore)

Oh! Thanks anon! I guess I'm just used to missing sarcasm in text that I immediately default to "I know that's sarcasm but how" Haha
