The waking world comes in fits and flickers, illusive, dripping in the slow treacle-flow of ancient water that licks Parans boots. This place is not home, it clings heavy with the scars of other times. The rocks are pocked and pitted with violent intent.

Savenging hands find odd surplus in old place even if the finds are watermarked and ageworn. A jagged rock is easy to pry from the rocks as Paran raises, and more are potentially freeable with deft fingers. The Guard looks unconcerned with our increase in armaments. Perhaps they have seen this sort of thing before. Their weapons look homeforged and more sturdy than "sharp".

The corpses dot the ground in a exhibition the violent ways to dismember the hominid species. Most are torn apart, as if a great force burst from their chests and felt ribs, cartilage and skeletal muscle was no impediment at all to some cataclysmic final drawing of breath. The one at Scryetzk feet have, unlike all others, a single small knife clenched half in hand.

Greedvine grows in all the places one does not expect, sustaining nourishment from fickle sources and always - always - cling tighter to the wall than the gardener would prefer. It makes good rope and better binding. Some of it has been consumed by the construction of the woodgate, others, spun carefully into bowstring.

As a heap, it might need some encouragement.

Someone falls to their death. An instructive lesson in the applications of greed. The pit fills with the bouncing laughter of watching souls. They don't very dismayed at the lack of a speaker. Some lean forward, excited, expecting, exuberant at some... something.

The Basin is old stone, dripped from the high ceiling through an age and then another but around is lies the arts and craft display of a gaggle of lunatic kidnappers for all the world to see, hands and hands again in palm print blood against the rough stone. But the Basin itself.

It is worked to a ludicrous degree. Tiny faces spiral in the seam of the rock, the drips turn into ants, small villages erupt down one long flowing strand of frozen rock. And did that one creature blink? No. Stone doesn't do this. The water in the Basin is opaque, if the bottom was very far away indeed. It smells fresh and tiny whorls dance across surface. One could drink this.

Almost surely without side-effect.

From the passage boils a creature more capricious killing instinct than actual animal.

The fools keep a pet Spitescorp. Perhaps they have fed it, gorged it, on the fallen and the felled. Pitiful. Spitescorps aren't known for loyalty, even if some can be trained in a good mockery of it.

With strain and travails we may be able to bring down this edifice and--

This wretched gate is of sturdy construction and new wood, not yet dotted with the rot of water or age. Cut with rough axes but tiny critters still eke out a living in the remnants of their home. Is there some fantastic forest nearby to log for all this? Did we come from there? Perhaps... Perhaps we were looking for...

A guard wanders off.
Another pulls a small jar from stained clothes and flings it into the Pit, expectant. Punguent odour boils from the smashed pottery. The Spitescorp, detects the thing it hates as much more than mere flesh-tainted mammals: a spitescorp loyal to a competing imposter-Queen. It clicks closer, sensory feelers swinging.

Paran wanders over to a small isolated area and finds something odd - a collection of jagged spearheads attached roughly to thin lengths of wood. Perhaps the Guards meant to allow their prisoners some valiant attempt at dying for their amusement?

The Spitescorp moves close with taste of mammal meat in the air and then lunges for Jove exposed back and heaving trapezius on full display. It rakes deadly claws across the skin!

With a mighty wrenching of muscle and a soft sussuration of a sudden wind, wood breaks and shatters and bends before the assault! They deserve, the Second Sky, in their hidden homes and deep holes. If they knew what . . . what happened last?

Jove stumbles back as the greedwine slackens and and the gate rises upwards as the stone counterweight shifts. With a snapping rip the terrace tears from the upper floors, one confused Guard grabbing the railing --

But in the confusion, as Jove steps into the path of arrow, he takes a mortal shot.

You pay push your lungs to the breaking point by taking 1 fatigue, thus gaining 1 alacrity and again, and again, and so, do more! At only the cost of endurance and dizzied breath.

And the best part of all?
You may learn something new in the doing of your various deeds!

in doing, you wish for 1-40, and matches Do Nice Things. High missed matches such as 99 or 88 Do Not Do Nice Things, but much rarer.
