You are Myon Uesugi, a young ninja girl who has found herself locked in battle with the Living Dead. It was only several days ago that you left the Village Hidden in the Mist alongside your friend Kasumi and her sensei Ao. The mission was to help lead a company of Ashigaru into battle alongside your temporary allies from the Village Hidden in the Clouds. All was going well as you and Kasumi slew many enemy soldiers before conquering a small town, but things took a turn for the strange when you two received mysterious necklaces with inverted triangles on them. Then one night you found yourself ambushed by a soldier who was clearly already dead, and this same night you find that the village you recently took is under attack by similar monsters! It may take all of your shinobi skills to fight through the bloodshed that is to follow…

Leaping up a wall, you dash onto the rooftops as chaos engulfs the town. Here and there you spot what looks to be Land of Lightning Ashigaru and a handful of your own men from the Land of Water. Banding together, they appear to be holding off mobs of disheveled and bloody warriors bearing the emblem of the Land of Hot Water. While you worry for your men’s survival against these monstrous foes, you decide that there is something you must see to before assisting them.

Bolts of red lighting blast through the sky at several different angles, but all appear to be concentrated around the tall home that once belonged to this town’s mayor. The same building that Sho’nuff took as his current lodging. You had little idea what could cause such a display, but you were determined to find out.

Scurrying across the rooftops, you clear the distance between the edge of the town to the looming mansion. Having much experience running up walls and across water, you’re able to sprint up to the very roof of the building.

“Sho’nuff!” you shout. “Where the Hell are you?!”

Your words echo across an apparently empty rooftop, until….

*CRASH!*

Looking over your shoulder, you spot a shadowy figure bursting through the tiled roof and up into the night sky! Following quickly behind that figure, is a larger red and black figure grasping a katana.

“CRESCENT-MOON-BEHEADING-JUTSU!”

Against the backdrop of the night sky, you watch as the second figure’s sword slashes through the air at such incredible speed that it leaves a shining blur shaped like a crescent moon. Soon that very sky begins to rain down blood upon the rooftop as the the first shadowy figure is cut in twain!

“Ha!” Sho’nuff grunts, landing upon the ground beside the two halves of his foe. “Punk-ass BITCH!"

You blink at Sho’nuff as he huffs and puffs, reveling in his victory over his current foe before he finally turns and acknowledges your presence.

“Well well well, if it isn’t the little Dragon girl.” Sho’nuff sneers.

“Why do you keep calling me that? You walking carpet.” you grunt back.

Your eyes stare intently at the tiger pelts that adorn Sho’nuff’s frame. Its impossible to forget that strange first impression the two of you had on one another, where the two of you nearly attacked each other without provocation. Strangely enough, you feel your hairs stand a little on end just staring at him but you couldn’t particularly explain what it was about him that set you off.

“Ugh.” you growl. “Look I’m not here to screw around with you. In case you haven’t noticed, our army’s getting torn to pieces down there. We gotta do something!”

“What does it look like I’m doing?” Sho’nuff snarls. “Unlike you, I’m too old for this Halloween BULL-shit. Waking up surrounded by a bunch of demons ain’t my idea of a good time. Just what the Hell is this?"

“I… I don’t know.” you mutter. “I think these THINGS are the same soldiers we fought yesterday, but I don’t know how this could have happened.”

“Well whatever.” Sho’nuff spits. “We’ll put them back down in pieces this time.”

Sho’nuff walks over to the ledge of the roof and glares down at the various skirmishes taking place throughout the town.

What does Myon do now?

>Scan the town with Sho’nuff, maybe you’ll spot some clue as to what’s going on?

Scowling down at Sho’nuff’s fallen opponent, you grip your sword handle and slowly approach the two halves of the bisected combatant.

“Hey.” you grunt. “Are you sure you killed this thing?”

“I cut the freak in half.” Sho’nuff replies. “Its down for the count.”

Not liking that response one bit, you sigh and get closer to what looks to be the top-half of the enemy.

“These things don’t just die if you slash em up. You have to wreck their heads, destroy the brain.”

“What?”

Turning his gaze away from the town, Sho’nuff slowly approaches the monster as well.

>93
>Great Success

You’re caught off guard for a moment as you recognize the enemy’s flak vest. This wasn’t just another conscript that was raised from the dead, but a Shinobi. No doubt one of the Yugakure nin that Sho’nuff and Ao took out last night.

“Heh, last few ones I hit were definitely wasted. I must’ve flash-fried their nervous system.” Sho’nuff chuckles.

You look up at Sho’nuff who performs a single hand-sign, that of the Ram. You suddenly feel a few of your hairs stand on end and a low humming sound fill the air while Sho’nuff’s hands begin to crackle with red electricity.

“Lightning Release Bullet,” Sho’nuff huffs before winding backs his fist.

It comes as a shock, almost literally, to feel such power coursing as if through the very air. Yet, your danger sense is going off louder like a siren in your head. If this enemy is just playing dead, then why doesn’t it try to resist?

“Something’s wrong.” you mutter.

“Powerful Brea—“

“Sho’nuff stop!” you shout.

Sho’nuff stops his punch mid-swing, and in response the undead shinobi lifts its head and growls.

“Damn girl, you woke it up!” Sho’nuff exclaims.

“Its a trap! Run!” you shout in reply.

Breaking off into a sprint, you and Sho’nuff run off for the other edge of the rooftop. Looking over your shoulder, you watch the undead shinobi rip its flak jacket open and reveal a multitude of explosive tags!

*KA-BOOOOOM!*

You and Sho’nuff leap away from the explosion and sail down onto a lower rooftop on the now flaming building.

“Hot damn.” Sho’nuff sighs. “These fools got to rely on bullshit tricks like this, even after they already lost and died.”

Wiping a bead of sweat from your forehead, you mutter back to Sho’nuff

“Your welcome.” you grumble. "Gods, you're worse than Zab."

“Pfft, I ain’t thanking nobody. Not yet….”

You and Sho’nuff watch as several other figures appear on this very rooftop. Four shadowy figures with gaunt faces, pale skin, and stern glares. All that’s missing is the headbands, but you recall from yesterday that Sho’nuff pilfered them from their corpses yesterday. Perhaps its why they’re so keen on gaining their revenge from beyond the grave, but you can only guess what’s going through these monsters’ heads right now.

And for the moment, that is far from your greatest concern. Two Undead Shinobi face you while two others face Sho’nuff. You’ve only fought enemy ninja a few times before, and never like this.

“Damn.” you whisper. “Heh, Lord Mizukage… he’s gonna have to pay me S-Rank for this.”

You chuckle nervously while drawing your sword, back-to-back with Sho’nuff. You’re not about to lie to yourself and say you’re not a little scared, but at the same time—

“This is exciting.”

You glare down your two opponents while sheathing your sword once more. If you wanted to take these things out for good, you knew you’d have to strike their heads. An Iaido strike needed to be precise, otherwise these things would just keep coming at you.

“What are you waiting for?” you whisper.

“Yeah, come on. Come get some!” Sho’nuff howls.

The four undead shinobi hiss and sneer before running right for you!

>60
>Failure

“IAIDO-DRAW JUTSU!”

Your sword flashes out of its sheath as one of the undead ninja swoops in with a kunai knife in its hand. Yet despite the incredible speed of your technique, your accuracy falls short! The undead ninja weaves a step back just in the nick of time, allowing you to slash off an arm of his instead!

“Damn!”

You step forward and swing with your scabbard, hoping to bash its brains instead but even this backup maneuver of yours falls short as the ninja tumbles backwards.

“They’re fast, almost as fast as Ka—AH!”

Taken off guard by one of the ninja’s speed left you wide open to his partner’s attack. You stagger aside as the undead Shinobi’s kunai stabs into your bicep, punching down to the bone. Its all you can do not just to stand there and scream in pain, but thankfully your instincts keep you from losing your battle stance as this same ninja unleashes a flurry of punches and kicks.

>58
>Failure

When you finally have some room to breathe again, you glance back and find that Sho’nuff isn’t faring much better than you are. It appears he too is attempting to strike at his opponents’ heads with that same technique you displayed earlier but to little avail.

“CRESCENT-MOON-BEHEADING JUTSU!” he howls again, his foes backing away and pelting him with shuriken.

“Argh! Stand still you— OOF!“

One of the ninja that you were squaring off with before, the one you attempted to slay with an Iaido Slash, rushes over and slams his foot into Sho’nuff’s sternum. Your Cloud Ninja ally is sent flying off his feet and into the burning mansion! In hot pursuit of their one-time killer, all three of those ninja rush after Sho’nuff into the burning building and leave you with but a single ninja opponent.

What does Myon do?

Undeterred by your enemy’s speed, you decide to switch up your tactics to something you’re hoping will catch him off guard. You flinch in pain as you move your injured arm and reach into your jacket for a special Kunai knife.

>95
>Great Success!

The Undead Shinobi in front of you charges with a kunai in each hand, determined to cut you to ribbons but you’re quick to keep the distance. Rushing back on your heels, you toss the kunai as hard as you can at the shinobi. Your blade hits its mark, slamming directly into the undead monster’s chest yet it continues to charge as if your attack was nothing more than a stiff breeze.

“Got ya.” you grunt.

You can see a glimmer in your foe’s eyes, some sudden realization of what you’ve done, just before he goes up in smoke! The entire body is blown to pieces in a fiery blast, taking a good chunk of the side of the building with it!

“HA!” you cry out. “Wow, how much chakra did I put into that tag?”

Watching the side of the building give way under the flames, you watch as your comrade Sho’nuff becomes visible inside the blazing mansion.

>85
>Success

In spite of the raging inferno surrounding him, Sho’nuff ferociously fights on against his three foes. Charing up against one of the Undead Ninja standing near the edge, he lunges forward and grabs his foe by the throat.

“LIGHTNING-ROD-JUTSU!”

Raising his sword up into the air, you are temporarily blinded by the flash of a giant red lightning bolt cascading down from the sky! The bolt of lightning hits Sho’nuff’s katana and courses through his body and into the ninja he’s grappled. A moment later, Sho’nuff drops the charred remains of his foe off the ledge.

The two of you have been able to even the odds, potentially turning this fight into a two-on-two battle!

What does Myon do now?

Seeing the opening that your explosive kunai has made, you decide to ride this momentum to finish off another of these monsters.

Taking a single deep breathe, you rush forward and leap high into the air above as he prepares his own attack!

>93
>Great Success!

The very ninja you were targeting sees your approach and leaps into the air himself. You smirk as he does so, for you can see that he has not jumped high enough to intercept your own attack.

He has sealed his fate.

”DRAGON-HAMMER-FLASH JUTSU!"

Your slam your sword downwards directly over your foe’s head, and your blade slices cleanly through his dead flesh and decaying bone! Spraying dirty bloods all over the flames and over yourself, you cut completely through your foe as he collapses down into the fire.

“Rest in pieces.” you whisper. “Ack.”

Your arm stings, drawing your attention to the kunai knife still-embed into your bicep. It suddenly dawns on you that, had you not performed your ultimate technique so flawlessly you could have aggravated your injured arm even further by putting too much pressure on that arm. Thankfully that’s not a concern at the moment, but you realize should you attempt the technique again you run the risk of hurting yourself.

>76

“POWERFUL-BREATH-JUTSU! WASHAAAAAA!”

Sho’nuff throws a punch at the sole-remaining ninja who stares back at him from across the room. As he follows through with his fist, a great bolt of red lightning blasts off of his knuckles and slams into the undead monster. Convulsing in agony for a few brief seconds, the reanimated shinobi drops to his knees and falls headfirst onto a burning piece of timber.

“Don’t mess with the Master!” Sho’nuff exclaims, smoke rising off of his arm.

Your ally lets his arm go limp, the last of your foes having seemingly been dispatched. With the house around you starting to creak and groan, you beat a hasty exit by leaping out the large gash in the side of the building alongside Sho’nuff. While the two of you safely fall upon a nearby rooftop, your eyes catch sight of what looks to be a fairly large mob of people shambling over toward the town.

You note that these newcomers appear to be coming from the graveyard, the very same one you observed a funeral taking place at early this morning with Kasumi.

“Alright, now that the B-team’s been taken care of let’s take care of the rest of these losers before they eat my boys."

Sho’nuff looks ready to hop down to the street level and join the fighting alongside his Ashigaru. You’re not quite sure what the situation is down there, but you imagine things couldn’t have been much easier for them.

What does Myon do now?

You crouch down upon the rooftop while all Hell breaks loose just a few stories below. Sighing, you decide to do something about that knife stuck in your bicep before you do anything else.

>87
>Great Success!

Relaxing for a moment, you block out all the chaos and remember back to those impromptu lessons taught to you by Sensei-Juzo. Very first thing you do is reach toward your sake jug.

“Good thing Captain Ao’s not here to see this.” you say while biting down on the cork and opening up the jug.

You take a quick swig of the stuff before setting it down by your feet. Brandishing a clean kunai, you tear up a piece of fabric from your raggedy jacket while staring at your wound. The blood is dark red, meaning you didn’t have to worry about any vital arteries being injured. Flinching, you tear the kunai out and dress the wound before pouring some sake over it as a disinfectant.

“Damn!” you hiss.

You let a few minutes pass by while tending to your wound before covering it up with a make-shift leather bandage. Standing back up, you flex the arm a little and find that the pain is almost completely gone! No doubt you’ll need some serious medical attention later, but for the purposes of this battle you shouldn’t have to worry about the wound getting any worse. At least, assuming you don’t suffer any other injuries…

“LISTEN UP SUCKAS!”

Hopping back up to your feet, you stare wide-eyed at Sho’nuff as he shouts as loud as he can down at the streets.

“This apocalypse is OVAH! Sho’nuff is back on the scene, and Sho’nuff IS, THE MASTER!!!”

Several of the combatants struggling down below cease their fighting to look upwards at Sho’nuff, whose voice echoes all throughout the streets.

“Why don’t you sit down and shut up!” a hoarse figure growls from below.

“Why don’t I WHAT!?” Sho’nuff shouts back. “Why don’t I sit down and WHAT?!"

You stare down into the crowd, utterly surprised that any member of these shambling hordes of monsters could speak.

“I said … why don’t you sit down and shut up!” one the Undead Ashigaru groans, blood oozing out of his mouth.

Suddenly, Sho’nuff’s body begins to crackle tiny red sparks of lightning across his arms and chest.

“Why don’t anybody who wants me to SIT DOWN and SHUT UP, come up here and make me?! Why don’t any fifty of you who wants me to SIT DOWN and SHUT UP come up here just for the fun of it!?”

Several dozen of the ravening horde of monsters down below begins to hiss and growl as they swarm around the building you and Sho’nuff are perched atop.

Well that sucks, well if she comes back or you find someone else to make a portrait I'd be happy to throw in for the commission.
Really enjoying the quest and it doesn't seem all that fair to me that you're putting in all the effort *and* cash on top of that.

Standing on the edge of the rooftop, you twist your head to the side as an undead warrior’s arrow whizzes past your head. Aside from a few sloppily fired projectiles, you watch as many other Hot Water Ashigaru assemble ladders and grappling hooks to climb up and reach you and Sho’nuff. It seems Sho’nuff has successfully earned the attention of these ravening monsters, possibly saving the lives of some your men while placing your own lives in danger.

“WA~SHAAAA!”

Revving back his fists, Sho’nuff proceeds to punch several more bolts of red lightning down into the horde of enemies. Each blast appears to sunder a single foe to ashes, yet it does little more than make a crack. You have to wonder if Sho’nuff’s hotheaded nature has led him to bite off more than he can chew. Then again, you could hardly blame him.

This battle is something you don’t want to miss.

What does Myon do now?

>Leap from the rooftop and charge through the horde of enemies?
>Await your enemies advance as you stand your ground on the rooftop?
>Hop from roof to roof and proceed to toss more Explosive tagged Kunai into the enemy ranks?
>Let Sho’nuff handle this, go investigate what might be going on back at the graveyard?

That's really cool of you to offer Anon, but I'm not going to ask that of you. I'm hoping I can find some kind artist to bring us a pic of Myon, but I'm sure whenever that happens that I'll be able to cover the costs.

It honestly makes me plenty happy to know others here enjoy the character and the quest as much as I do!

You smile down at the approaching horde of monsters, eager for a chance to slay more of them. Yet as you watch them slowly shamble close, you begin to wonder how much of a challenge it will really be?

“Sho’nuff looks like he’s enjoying himself.” you whisper. “If the two of us teamed up, we would certainly win.”

Sighing, you twirl and stretch your injured arm and confirm that the pain isn’t really that bad.

“They really aren’t that scary now that I know how to kill them, but maybe there’s something more challenging waiting back at that graveyard?”

Just as a single undead warrior clambers up onto the roof, you make your decision.

“Sho’nuff, I’m going to scout ahead!”

If your ally hears you, then he simply does not respond as he seems too busy tossing lightning bolts down into the horde.

“Have fun.” you mutter.

The nearby zombie falls limp as you stab your sword through its forehead. Pulling the blade back, you leap onto a nearby rooftop and begin to scamper away. Several more arrows fly up but fail to hit you while you’re leaving the scene of this battle.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrQz-sFBzfA

“Now let’s see what’s going on here.”

Taking one last great jump off of a rooftop, you sail down onto the grassy plain surrounding an old cemetery. You can still hear Sho’nuff’s lightning bolts going off in the distance and the crackling of flames as well, but such noises have become fainter. In contrast, this graveyard is eerily quiet.

“This smells like an ambush.” you grumble.

Creeping deeper into the cemetery past some large tombstones, you carefully examine your surroundings for any sign of more monsters lying in wait. Yet you don’t find any of them, what you find off in the distance is actually a hole in the ground.

“Yeeesh.”

You quickly step behind some cover as you hear a fairly human-sound groan. Scanning from afar, you believe you see a figure stabbing a shovel into a ground. Someone appears to be digging up a grave…

What does Myon do now?

>Get a little closer and observe from a distance?

You narrow your eyes and squint through the shadows as best you can, but you cannot make out who or what this person might be. So instead of taking a wild guess or rushing into what could be an intense fight, you sigh and slowly approach the mysterious gravedigger.

>92
>Great Success

Incorporating everything you know about the art of stealth and the basics of Soundless Murder, you creep through the graveyard as if you were one of its ghostly denizens. Every step closer sheds a glimmer of light over what you’re dealing with.

You’re honestly taken aback by what you find. The mysterious figure who digs away into the earth is… a boy. A boy around your age with silvery gray hair, a simple tunic of sorts, and—

“A headband?” you whisper.

The boy lifts his head and wipes a bit of grime off his cheek, revealing a glimmer of dull metal on his forehead. The symbol cannot be mistaken for anything other than that of the Land of Hot Water, which must mean this young boy is a ninja just like you!

“I’m going to be sore tomorrow.” the boy grunts while straightening up and cracking his back. “But it’ll be worth it.”

The boy puts on a small smile as he stops to reach for something within his jacket. Reaching close by his neck, the boy brandishes a necklace with an inverted triangle symbol and sighs down at it with what looks like a forlorn smile.

“An inverted pentagram?” you gasp. “Jashin. This Hot Water Ninja, he’s a follower of Jashin!"

“i-Is this really happening?” the boy asks. “Am I really doing this?"

You watch as the hand gripping Jashin’s symbol begins to shake.

“I don’t believe this, how the—“

Your words fall flat as you turn your head aside and spot a single Undead Hot Water Shinobi standing atop a pedestal. You look on in utter shock, as you no doubt mistook that foe for a statue by how still it was standing. With a gulp, you realize he’s staring directly at the boy with a kunai in hand.

Slowly drawing your blade, you skulk by a few head stones and slowly snake your way over to the unsuspecting sentry…

>91
>Success!

Leaping up behind the Undead Ninja, you stab your blade right through the back of your foe’s head and tackle him to the ground. Not wasting another moment, you grab hold of the freshly killed corpse from underneath its armpits and drag it behind another tombstone. Peering over back at the boy, you find that he is continuing his work none the wiser.

“Nice.”

Plopping the zombie up against the tombstone in a sitting position, you are free to stealthily crawl even closer to the Hot Water Nin.

“Argh, finally!” the boy shouts. “Rise, RISE!”

The Hot Water Ninja steps back, a wide smile plastering his face while the soil beneath his planted shovel violently stirs!

“In the name of God, ARISE!”

Exploding from the ground comes a shadowy figure who performs a summersault in the air before landing on his fee in front of the boy. You can see once more by the flak jacket the undead wears that he was once a ninja, likely one of several that were killed the other day.

“Incredible.” the boy exclaims.

Clearing his throat, the boy gives the ninja a slight bow and says—

“I am sorry I couldn’t fight beside you, but at least now I’ve given you a second chance.”

The Undead ninja groans down at the boy before lifting his head and staring at the town.

“The invaders are still here. Jashin has given you a second chance, a chance to save our country.”

Raising a fist the boy smirks and says—

“Go get your revenge, go kill the Cloud and Water Ninja!”

The undead ninja’s blank face contorts into a vicious scowl before it sprints off through the graveyard toward the village.

“p-Praise Jashin.” the boy stutters.

Gripping his shovel anew, the boy looks around the graveyard before shouting—

“I will change destiny!”

You blink at the boy, wondering if he is yelling to himself.

“Is he crazy?” you ask. “Am I crazy?"

It seems that whoever this ninja is, he is largely motivated out of loyalty to his country. Despite his apparently dwindling grasp over his sanity, you can't help but emphasize with that at least. Perhaps your foe has some sense of honor?

"Is... is he the only living Hot Water Ninja here?" you ask yourself. "Why is he alone?"

You stare at the figure for several seconds, debating how you want to handle him. For a brief moment, you consider emerging from cover and challenging him to a duel, but knowing that he has access to such powerful abilities you decide it might be too risky. Then, after mulling it over for another few seconds you decide to simply try to deal with him the same way you dealt with his pawns.

Gripping your sword, you slowly stalk him step by step and prepare a killing blow…

>99
>Great Success?

You appear right behind your foe, standing so close to him that you can reach out and grab him. Yet he doesn’t appear to notice you one bit. He simply continues to walk away, hefting the shovel over his shoulder while humming something that sounds like it could be a hymn.

“Die.”

“ACK!” the boy cries.

Your sword slams right through the back of his head, just as it had the undead ninja a few moments before. Without losing a beat, you step back and slink your sword out of his head. As he chokes in shock, you step back and slash at his spinal column! Blood spills into the air as you cut deeply into his flesh and through the bone.

“DIE!”

Taking aim, you stab your sword again through his back and cut cleanly into his heart. Spraying yourself with his blood, you continue to hack and slash into the ninja until you’ve successfully struck all 8 of his vital zones. Lost in the frenzy of your attack, you have to make yourself step away from the bloody corpse on the ground simply to regain control.

“Shit.” you gasp.

You idly wonder if you’ve broken a record. You’ve struck all 8 of his vital signs before his body even hit the ground.

“i-I guess I got carried away.” you chuckle. “Sorry about that, you probably didn’t deserve to die quite that painfully.”

The mangled corpse does not respond, making you feel a little silly.

“Bah.” you grunt. “Well, whatever.”

You wick the blood off of your blade and sheath it, turning your back on the ninja boy.

“ARRRRRRRRRRRGH!”

Drawing your blade once more, you twist around and gawk at the boy as he rises to his feet.

“THAT REALLY FREAKIN HURT!” the boy shouts. “HOLY CRAP!”

“How the f—“ you grunt while staggering back. “WHY?!”

The ninja boy’s chest heaves as his bloody mess of a body hunches over yet somehow remains standing.

“Who the… who the Hell do you think you are?” the enemy asks. “Coming here, killing my people, wearing that necklace!?”

You grit your teeth and absently grab the Jashin necklace hanging from your neck. Somehow, by some mad twist of fate, it appears that this enemy of yours is… immortal?

“Who the Hell are you?” you ask.

“My name is Hidan, Ninja of the Hot Water." he gasps. “Who are you supposed to be?!"

Hidan brandishes a small metal cylinder from his tunic and swings it, which causes the cylinder to elongate into a pointed metal spear.

“I’m Myon of the Hidden Mist.” you sneer back. “How are you still alive?”

“I… I don’t know…” Hidan groans. “… all I know is I’m really pissed off now!"

The two of you stare each other down as you slowly come to grips with the insanity of the situation. A foe you seemingly cannot kill. On the one hand, it seems exciting to face such a foe, but on the other it feels almost unfair. Hidan should be dead after an attack like yours. Yet he still looks like he’s rearing to go.

You coldly stare down your foe as his shaky blood-splatters body assumes a combat stance, pointing his metallic spear directly at you. You’ve hit every vital point on this guy, but you suppose if he’s going to keep fighting after that then you might as well keep going until he’s been cut into pieces.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR0UjAQIX6E

“Hey hey,” Hidan gasps. “what’s wrong? Don’t tell me you’re getting scared now?”

Smirking, you ready your sword and reply

“I live for this.”

With that, the two of you charge one another!

>78
>Success!

Your blade clashes against his metal spear as he wildly thrusts and stabs at you. He fights with better form than you expected, showing that he is capable of holding his own as a fencer. However, your technique is far superior and your weapon better suited to such open combat.

“You damn foreigners don’t belong here!” Hidan hisses. “Jashin will drag you all to the netherworld!”

Ducking down, you dodge a fierce two-handed stab from his spear and swoop in close. Slashing upward, you slice off both of Hidan’s arms from just above their elbows in a mist of blood!

“ARRRGH!” Hidden growls. “You bitch!”

“Hmph.” you grunt. “Maybe your god likes us more."

With a kick, you send Hidan reeling back a few steps. Your foe coughs up some blood as he somehow remains standing. He sullenly stares down at his stumps before glowering at you. Its hard not to smirk, for its clear by the look in his eyes that even he knows you’ve won.

“Myon-san!”

You turn your gaze away from Hidan for only a moment to find Kasumi barreling through the graveyard, coming to a stop by your side.

“Kasumi!” you cry. “Are you alright?”

Your friend smiles and nods.

“I found Ao-Sensei, we just came back from the town!” she exclaims “We came just in time too I think.”

“I’m glad you’re alright.” you sigh. “Where’s Ao?”

“Fighting beside Sho’nuff.” she answers. “And hunting down the rest of those monsters.”

“HEY!” Hidan shouts. “I’m not finished yet! Don’t just ignore me!”

Kasumi stares at Hidan with a confused look.

“Uhm, hello?” Kasumi calls over. “My name is Kasumi, nice to meet you.”

Hidan’s glare gives way to another look of shock as his eyes spot what looks to be the Jashin necklace around her neck.

“y-You too?” Hidan stutters. “WHY?!”

You’re almost starting to feel a little sorry for this guy, and for once giving someone a merciful and quick death is not an option.

“Damn you, damn you both.” Hidan howls. “Jashin, why have you abandoned me?!”

As Hidan cries out for absolution, you suddenly turn your head and spot the soil in front of a grave beginning to stir. Oddly enough, in front of this tombstone appears to be a raggedy black tophat.

Rising from the dirt directly below the top hat suddenly appears a dark skinned man whose body appears to be painted with a chalky white pattern that resembles a skeleton. The man calmly stares directly at you and Kasumi while holding a machete in his right hand.

“What is that?” Kasumi whispers. “He looks different.”

Hidan looks upon the figure apparently in awe, leaning back against a tombstone for support.

Strangely enough, there’s something oddly familiar about this figure… but whatever he is, all he seems to be doing in the moment is staring at you with this blank gaze. You’re not sure exactly what you are dealing with now, but simply looking at him fills you with an odd feeling you’re not used to. Unlike the killer instinct of a ninja like Kurogasa or the infuriating glare of someone like Sho’nuff, this mysterious being has given you a small sense of dread.

This sense of foreboding quiet that has fallen over the graveyard leaves you stunned, if only for a moment. Shaking yourself out of the stupor you’re in, you turn over to Hidan who gawks at this mysterious figure.

In a split second decision, you decide to remove him as a threat.

“Hidan!”

The boy turns his head to you just in time to realize he’s sealed his fate. Your sword slashes through his throat, clanging loudly against the gravestone he rested against. In a single clean cut, his head is sent tumbling to the ground beside Kasumi’s feet.

“Shit!” Hidan croaks. “That was a cheap shot!”

Kasumi squeaks and hops back a step from the boy’s head.

“Really?” you gasp. “Why doesn’t anyone I fight just die?”

You suppose you should’ve expected as much after anhilating him with Soundless Murder technique, but even after decapitating him Hidan still has the nerve to curse you out.

“Heh.” Kasumi giggles. “That’s spooky.”

Her gentle revelry is suddenly drowned out by the thunderous laughter. His once calm and severe gaze is broken, and in its place is a look of vulgar joy. Its by hearing his laughter, that you come to a sudden conclusion.

“i-I recognize that laugh.” you mutter. “You’re the Fortune Teller!”

The man’s laughter slowly comes to an end as he smiles at you and bellows

“SOMETIMES.”

You stare over at the strange figure before working up the nerve to question him further.

“Just, who are you exactly?” you grunt. “Are you with Hidan?”

“He is with me.” the man booms. “He must come with me now.”

Hidan’s jaw drops as the man points to his severed head. Reaching down, Kasumi grabs him by his hair and lifts him up.

“Where are you going to take him?” Kasumi asks.

“Far… far away.” the mysterious being replies.

He clears his throat, and in that deep voice of his explains—

“Once, while I was a fortune teller, I told this boy the future that was in store for the Land of Hot Water. I told him that the Ninja of this land would grow weak in the years to come, and would come to reject the ways of war and violence. He sought to change the destiny of this land by embracing religion, but the future refused to change. However, that need not be your future at all…”

Losing his smile, the man asks again.

“Give Hidan to me."

"NO!" Hidan shouts. "Please, I'm not ready to go yet!"

You’re a little overwhelmed by the mere presence of this man, or what he might even be. A part of you wonders if this man might really be not a man at all…

“Myon-San?” Kasumi whispers. “I feel strange, like I did back when we met during the Final Exam. What do we do?”

Close vote! Giving away Hidan's head and running off with it are tied, but seeing as there were also a few votes for giving it away for a reward, I'm going to have Myon lean toward handing the head back instead of retreating with it.

You stare back as intently as you can into the eyes of this… god? Whatever it is you are dealing with, you hold your own for as long as you can before coming to a decision.

“Let’s give Hidan back to him.” you mutter. “Slowly.”

Kasumi looks over to you and gulps before putting on a brave face. Together, the two of you walk over to the mysterious figure as he quietly stands there in front of the grave and waits. Breathing a heavy sigh, Kasumi raises Hidan’s severed head.

Hidan looks to be paralyzed with fear.

“Do not be afraid.” the figure whispers. “This is not the end…”

He takes the head away from Kasumi and as he does so, he reaches down to her with his other hand.

“HEY!” you shout while grabbing your sword.

You draw your blade a few inches out of its sheath, but stop short when you see that the man’s hand didn’t reach for Kasumi’s throat. Instead, he cradles the necklace wrapped around Kasumi’s neck.

“A gift from a friend is something to be cherished, but I believe a gift from an enemy is also precious. Love and Hate, Good and Evil, it all seems so similar to me. Perhaps ninja like yourselves also feel this way?”

Kasumi looks up at the dark figure with wide eyes as he lets go of the necklace and steps back by the gravestone.

“Myon Uesugi, Kasumi Kaguya.” the specter booms. “I give you today the gift of life. Take my gratitude, and use it to take life as you see fit.”

Before your eyes, the spirit quickly sifts back into the grave with Hidan’s head and disappears.

>Myon has gained…
>Jashin’s Gratitude: ???
(Now added to Myon’s character sheet)

You release a breath you did not realize you were holding and curse—

“Screw this country. The sooner we get back home the better.”

A part of you was wondering if fighting the undead would lose its allure, but after everything you’ve seen tonight you’re starting to feel like you need a break.

“We should return to Ao-Sensei.” Kasumi sighs. “He might want our help.”

“Right.” you reply. “Let’s go.”

By the time you and Kasumi return back to the town, the sun is beginning to rise to the east. Ao sensei looks tired, and Sho’nuff is a bloody and haggard mess. That being said, Kasumi’s sensei looks relieved to see that you’ve both returned safely and even Sho’nuff smiles upon seeing that you’re not dead yet.

An hour or so later, white banners belonging to the Land of Lightning can be seen billowing in the distance. A column of roughly several hundred Ashigaru led by a squad of Kumogakure ninja begin marching into the smoldering remains of what was once a thriving town.

“Sho’nuff!” the ninja squad captain shouts. “You’re alive? What the Hell happened?! You said you were only going to burn one village to the ground as an example!”

“WA~SHAAAA!!"

Sho’nuff’s pimp hand slaps the squad captain with a truly thunderous clap, sending him sprawling to the ground. Several Ashigaru brandish their spears and swords only for the other Ninja to hold them back.

“Why, out of all the god-forsaken shitholes in the Land of Hot Water, did WE have to meet HERE?”

The Cloud Ninja raises picks himself up off the ground and wipes some blood off of his lip while replying—

“One place’s just as good as another?”

Ao slaps his own cheek and mutters.

“Our job here is done. Kasumi, Myon. Gather what’s left of our men, we’ll march back to our ship and begin our voyage home.”

“Yes Sensei!” Kasumi chirps.

“Aye aye.” you grumble.

While you’re definitely feeling fatigued right now, you can at least smile knowing that you’ve successfully completed your mission. You and your friend, perhaps your best friend, Kasumi has also survived. Maybe when you return home, you and her can have another sparring match or maybe go grab something to eat along with your Big Sis Junko. You can only hope that she and Zabuza were successful as well, back in the Land of Fire.

Then why didn't he just take the head and spare us? There was a point to our offering, anon. Obviously cursed power Isn't necessarily a good deal but It Isn't always a wholly bad one. Look at all the people that end up with Orochimaru's curse seals. Definitely some major downsides, but It's also a lifesaving tool In the right circumstance.

And most Importantly, It's Interesting

Certainly interesting, yes. I'd think the reason he didn't simply just up and killed us is because we're wearing Jashin necklaces, which generally arn't worn by anyone other then his worshippers.

Meaning a god showed up, saw that we're wearing his symbol, decided that we belong to him and granted us our lives (not killing us) because those lives are his to give or take, not ours. Fucking love this scene, but its more then a little unsettling.

Leaving Sho’nuff to quarrel with his peers, you and Kasumi walk off into the village side-by-side. You cast a glance at her as you walk along, put on a smile, and pat her shoulder.

“Hey, you were great last night.” you say. “I don’t know if I would’ve survived without you.”

Kasumi giggles while raising her sleeve up to her lips.

“I didn’t kill nearly as many undead as you last night. All I really did was find Ao-Sensei.”

“Yeah, but if not for Ao all our men probably would’ve died. I don’t think we could’ve taken an army of the dead on just by ourselves.”

“Heh heh heh,” Kasumi laughs. “no. But that sounds rather fun doesn’t it?”

You put your hands behind your head and listen to Kasumi’s laughter a little longer.

“I was afraid last night, meeting a God of Death and all.” Kasumi whispers. “I was afraid when I fought Zabuza too. Those are really the only times in my life I think I was ever afraid, but both of those times I had you there to help me.”

Your heart feels a little heavy as Kasumi turns to you with a bright smile.

“If we’re together, I don’t think Gods or Demons are all that big of a threat. We’re unstoppable Myon-san.”

You chuckle back at Kasumi and shake your head.

“Well I guess I’ll go try and find some more survivors, meet back up here in a few?”

“Sure, sounds great.” you reply.

Kasumi begins to wander off down a street past some rubble and corpses. As she does so, your smile wavers a moment as you turn around and spot Captain Ao talking with a handful of Land of Water Ashigaru. Walking over, you give your captain a slight bow.

“Sir, can we talk a moment?”

Pulling the captain aside, you explain to him last evening’s events from your point of view. Specifically, you launch into an explanation of what went down in the graveyard. His eye widens as you tell him how Hidan appeared to defy death itself despite your onslaught, but what truly takes him aback is your account of the strange figure in the skeletal paint and black topcoat.

“That bastard, you ran into him too?”

You blink at Ao for a few quiet moments.

“Captain? What do you mean by ’too’?” you murmur. “Do you know who that was?"

“Bah,” Ao grunts. “No. I’ve never ran into anything like that before. It was definitely a fierce opponent, whatever it was. Its good you did not have to fight him yourselves, he was almost too much for me."

You balk at your captain.

“You fought him?!”

Ao nods

“Briefly, yes. He was definitely one of the stronger foes I’ve faced recently, but… I couldn’t see his chakra. That still confuses me.”

Ao raises a hand to his temple beside his eye patch and groans.

“Had I simply stopped listening to that freak’s ravings, I could have come by sooner. Perhaps saved more of our men from those monsters, or spared you and Kasumi the danger of having met those Jashin freaks.”

You furrow your brow as Ao glares off into the distance.

“What was he… ‘raving’ to you about captain?”

Ao glances over his shoulder at Kasumi for a brief moment, who appears to be laughing beside a few survivors from your Ashigaru company.

“Nothing.” Ao sneers. "His words mean nothing."

You stare at Ao, slightly taken aback. In the short time you’ve known him, you’ve often seen him act frustrated, but you’ve never heard such genuine anger in his voice.

It does not take long for you to recover from Ao’s bitter response. As unsettling as he seems at the moment, your curiosity gets the best of you and you decide to question him further.

>96
>Success!

You fear for a moment that Ao may give you the same silent treatment that your own father often gives you. The idea that Ao may not share something with you simply because he thinks you’re better off not knowing is an infuriating thought. You’ll have to be tactful if you don’t want Ao to shut you out.

“Captain, are you feeling ok?” you ask.

“Of course. I’m simply irritated by that fool in the top hat.” he grunts.

Folding his arms over his chest, Ao sighs and adds

“I let him distract me for far too long, and that put you and Kasumi in great danger. What I did was unacceptable.”

You stare at him for a few silent moments, carefully mulling over your next words.

“That doesn’t seem like you captain.” you whisper. “Do you think he used a Genjutsu on you?”

“No, if that were true my Byakugan would have seen through his illusions.” Ao says with a shake of his head.

“Your what?” you mutter.

“My Byakugan. Its… gah.” Ao runs a hand through his hair. “You’re not supposed to know about that, but I suppose I can explain over the voyage back to Kirigakure. That Jashin follower was able to trick me by ranting about how he could see the future.”

“See the future…?” you repeat.

“Yes, he claimed he was a fortune teller, and he tried to tell me the future of our homeland.” Ao whispers while glaring off in the distance with his one good eye. “He told me we were doomed to fight one another. He told me that one day, I would find myself fighting against my own friends… and my own students.”

A chill goes up your spine as you stare up at Ao. You recall that the specter from last night claimed to be a fortune teller, and was it not his fortune telling that led to Hidan’s fate? You have to wonder if what he said about the Land of Hot Water would be true, if Ninja of this land would lose their way.

If that was true, would you be forced to fight your own friends as well?

'Wait, you don't mean--" you gasp. "He said you would fight Kasumi, didn't he?"

Captain Ao grits his teeth as multiple veins pop up around his eyepatch.

"Captain!?"

“Its nothing but lies.” Ao hisses. “Lord Mizukage is going to lead our village to victory in this war, and from there the Land of Water will know prosperity again. I'd rather die than accept any other future for our people.”

What does Myon do?

“I’d rather die too.” you growl. “The Land of Water is my home. Its OUR home.”

It dawns on you that Hidan himself tried so desperately hard to change the future that was seemingly in store for the Land of Hot Water, a place he evidently loved as his own home. He gave just about everything for his home, so how could you give any less even in the fate of such a damning omen?

“I don’t care what any god has to say about this, I won’t let it happen. I’ll do anything for our village, our country, our people….”

Captain Ao stares down at you, the intensity having not left his gaze. You feel that you can honestly share his wrath, that he too must truly care for the Village Hidden in the Mist as passionately as you do. The prospect of seeing it torn apart from within is truly horrid and repulsive to you both.

Even so, when you stand here and think of your friends and family back home… your father, your mother, little Keiji, Big Sis, and even Zabuza?

“… and I won’t ever turn my back on my friends.”

His one eye widens as you draw your sword and place its blade into your palm, gripping its sharp edge.

“With this blade I will carve out a future where we can remain comrades. Loyal to the Mist, and to each other until the day we die!”

With a fierce determination and a self-righteous anger, you unwittingly swear your oath over your own blood.

“Myon!” Ao shouts.

You freeze up as you spot your blood dripping onto the ashen soil.

“That is enough.” Ao says, the veins around his eyepatch having disappeared. “We’ve shed enough of our blood here today. Let us never forget our words here today.”

Exhaling, you place your sword back into its scabbard and weakly smile up at Ao, who smiles for perhaps the first time since you’ve known him.

“Let’s return home to the Mist."

"A god of life and death. How interesting…"

Deep within a cold and dark lab, far underneath the streets of Konoha, an exceptionally gifted Ninja idly perused a scroll that he had just recently acquired. At first what caught this Ninja’s attention was the peculiar symbol emblazoned across it; an inverted pentagram. When he took the scroll for himself and delved into its contents, he began to find what was written within to be quite relevant to his studies.

“To think, the very same abilities I have coveted for so long.” the Ninja chuckles. “I suppose when I have finally obtained the power I seek, they will consider me a God.”

The Ninja lets himself laugh a little longer before tossing the scroll aside. This bloody cult of mysticism was indeed a fascinating topic to research, but he felt he had exhausted the scroll to its limits. Or at least the limits he was willing to go.

“I sincerely apologize, if you do exist, but I’m honestly not a very religious person.”

Sure, the thought of delving into this bloody religion did cross his mind while he was reading on it, but in the end he decided that he already had issues following orders as it is. Between his old sensei and Danzo, he had enough masters as it was. Too many in fact for his own tastes.

“I suppose if I wish to be my own master, I should go to some lengths to become the next Hokage. Going to the Land of Grass and fighting Iwagakure would certainly go a long way to showing the village I can lead…. but this war, it will be such a distraction from my work.”

The Ninja’s slimy smile faded away.

“I’ve already learned so much, and lost so much. How can I turn my back on my research now?"

The Ninja sighed while running a hand through his long black hair. As he ruminated over his thoughts, he turned his slitted eyes over to another scroll he had yet to open. A letter from the Hokage himself.

“Let me guess?” the ninja hissed. “Another S-rank mission that Minato felt was too dirty? Bah!”

Snatching the scroll off of the table, the ninja unfurled it and quickly scanned through its contents. Then, he read it a second time far more slowly. Finally, he began to read it a third time before stopping at a single name.

“My student?” you hiss. “What is this?"

A mission on the far eastern fringes of the Land of Fire? A close brush with enemy ninja? Most importantly, a noticeable change in the young Kunoichi’s behavior that had earned even Lord Hokage’s attention?

“Anko Mitarashi.” you murmur. “Was it foolish of me to have let you live? Or… was it foolish of me to have let you go?”

Closing the scroll, Orochimaru stood up from his seat and walked over to a cabinet. Rummaging inside for a minute, he eventually brandished a dusty old photo of himself smiling beside the young girl.

“I will decide soon enough.”

Just for reminder sake, what was the reason for the bloodline purge in Kiri in the canon?
>>
>>3258639
The Kaguya clan is a bunch of blood thirsty maniacs that decided battle is more important than the Mist.

"he clan was noted for being very savage and battle-hungry, having no tactics when entering battle that they initiated simply to show off their ferocity. It was due to this failed attempt to prove themselves that the entire clan was killed off when attacking Kirigakure; even when surrounded and completely outmatched, they refused to back down, preferring to fight to the death simply to entertain their own bloodlust to the last."
>>
>>3258639
Oh my bad, you meant in general, but still, it was their fault

"In addition to foreign conflicts, Kirigakure has experienced several periods of internal unrest. The Kaguya clan once waged war against Kiri to quench their lust for battle, but were slaughtered by the village's superior forces. Those with kekkei genkai were regarded with suspicion by the people of Kiri and the wider Land of Water due to their efficiency during times of war. As such, persecution and even murder of anyone with a kekkei genkai was common; in the case of the Yuki clan, it no longer exists in an organised sense and its few surviving members live in secret, fearful of their abilities being discovered"
>>
>>3258639
What this anon said>>3258654
>>3258658

As it currently stands, Myon herself only learned fairly recently over the course of the Quest what a kekkei genkei is from her Father.

+++
“Konoha is home to many clans where powerful jutsu is passed down via the blood.” your father mutters, looking over his shoulder as if by instinct. “These powers are called Kekkei Genkei, and there are far more of these powerful jutsu in Konoha than any other village.”

A power that is passed down within a family? You believe you had heard rumors of such a thing before, but your academy instructors were never quite forthcoming with such information.
+++

^Up above is a little snippet from the third thread
>>
>>3258639
technically IN CANON, the kaguya rebelled and died but was not in any meaningful sense actually possessing of a kekkei genkei, and the CIVILIANS of water country used kekkei genkei as a stand in for ninja in general who they couldn't actually act out their anger at the war over. Canon itself never says anything about KIRI going after bloodlines, and Mei's existence at least weakly suggests they didn't.

Honestly my main question is for you Banzai; what are your thoughts on the dice? Best of 3 does seem to produce an average of 70+, not that I mind Myon being damned good at what she does (her being bloody talented became quite established during the exam) but the range seems fairly narrow... I love the Degree system, perhaps opposed rolls or some such could be introduced to widen the possible outcomes?
>>
>>3258712
I second this inquiry. Best of 3 is some superhero levels of competence.

Worst of three is the only real option.

>best of 3 seems to produce an average of 70+
its actually closer to 80, this is a chart i had a friend make when i was thinking what dice system to run my own quest with
>>
>>3258723
OK see that's interesting, my main thought / concern is that there really isn't much room for Banzai to play with in terms of TN.

So yea, since we just finished a mission and have a few days worth of downtime I wanted to at least bring it up, start a discussion and if many of us + Banzai agrees begin hashing something out
>>
Just you wait until we get 30 33 and 15. Best of three have done that in the past, on multible occasions.
>>
A compromise could be adding or taking rolls depending on competence and circumstance. I.e. best of 2, 3 or 4.
>>
>>3258723
It's slightly above 80
>>
I have to disagree with moves tp change the dice system. Like >>3258886 said, bo3 can and will fuck you over, we've just been lucky. I also just like seeing Myon be cool. It also gives Kasumi more to fangirl over.
>>
The dice are fine as is QM. Please don’t change from BO3.
>>
>>3258874
>>3259103
while i don't agree that bo3 fucks anybody over more than any other system, i see no reason to chnage it
the only system i really dislike is critbased d20 because it leads to retarded critfests
>>
Bo3system is fine, as long as everyone understands 80 is the average roll and 70 is below average and 50 is terrible.
>>
>>3259193
Didn't men to say its worse than any other system, just the luck has been on our side.
>>
>>3259193
I wasn't really saying that it would fuck us the most, just that it was capable.
>>
Can I suggest a d10 based dice pool system? A given task requires a cortina number of "hits" to succeed with any hits over the target number increases the level of success while a failureis a failure unless there are 0 hits which causes a crit fail. 6-10 on a die is a hit and the number of dice rolled is determined by how skilled Myon is at a task and the TN by how difficult a task is; Myon might have 5 dice in her Kenjustu pool for example and require only 1 hit to defeat an ashigaru in single combat, meaning she is almost guaranteed to win. One of the 7 swordsmen, on the other hand might require 7 hits for her to defeat using her Kenjutsu making it impossible for Myon to win at her current skill level unless she has a way to temporarily add additional dice to her pool. Pools would grow based on how we choose to develop our character so that in addition to learning new techniques it shows her becoming better in the specialty in general.
>>
>>3259499
Bo3 is way more versatile than that.
>>
Oh my god I can't believe it took me this long to realize Doctor Facilier is Jashin. That's so appropriate.
>>
>>3259514
Not at all... If the average is about 80, IE something Myon should be able to reliably do then what's a difficult action, 90? What's very difficult, 95?

The core if my issue with Bo3 is the difficulty in creating challenge to the character without it feeling like an asspull because you're essentially playing with 4/5th of the d100 we're using so a TN of 80 or 90 sounds like a lot but is actually something that can be reliably reached. Dicepools are one way, its right simple to scale and has far more of a bellcurve then Best of X

>>3258874
thats...not really how probability works my friend, yes it is possible but we are far, far, more likely to hit 90+ then 30, meaning its heavily, heavily, skewed and means anything more difficult then walking up the stairs require a target number of 90-95, and at that point I'll question why we're using a d100 when we're primarily in the top 20% of the rangeband
>>
>>3259700
He meant 30 33 and 15 landing as the three rolls for a single skill check which would be an 'oh shit' moment In any kind of combat scenario.

In my opinion things are fine as they are. I'd like our crit range to be slightly higher perhaps, maybe just for kenjutsu which Is our specialty but this has worked fine so far.
>>
>>3259719
Yea, I get ya, but we're almost more likely to roll 100 then we are to end up with a 30. I like "oh shit" moments, I'd like more "oh shit" moments and right now they really are incredibly unlikely...
>>
>>3259700
How is average reliable? Average score is failure 50% of the time since half are above and half are below. An average roll should be successful for a difficult action.
>>
>>3259782
That's not how it works my friend, that's a coinflip which is when you have an equal probability of all possible outcomes.

Average, on the other hand, is a more or less expected result. If I'm really good at something, say shooting for example, perhaps my average of 10 shots is 8 hits.
That does *NOT* mean I have an equal chance of hitting or missing, it means if you give me 10 rounds you can expect the vicinity of 8 hits.

In the case of these dice, roll a best of 3 d100 and you can expect the end result to cluster around 80. so on *average* a difficulty of 80 should be a success.

Average is reliable because that's how "average" is decided. By how reliably you reach a certain threshold
>>
>>3259838
Average is the mean value. If you rolled best of 3 a million times, added all the results and divided by a million it would be roughly 80. That's exactly how it works. It's the literal definition. You're going wrong by interpreting it non mathematically.
>>
>>3259926
You don't even need to roll it a million times because that will still leave slight inaccuracies. With dice you can brute force it and figure out Every Single Possible Result and then check

Also technically for this we're looking at the median, not mean
>>
Why exactly are people pushing for a harder dice system?
>>
>>3259987
Hell If I know anon. I'm fine with how things are.
>>
>>3259996
Same. People use 3d100 so often because it WORKS.
>>
>>3260031
I agree. It's simple, easy to use, lets your character be a badass most of the time and allows enough failures to keep things interesting.
>>
>>3259987
>>3260031
>>3260585

Except literally nobody is calling for a more difficult system, just one that's more granular. Just look at >>3258712

Not more difficult to pass, but one where the qm can have a little more playroom when it comes to DC
>>
Degree of success systems are fucking awful
>>

Wind style Ninjitsu. Vacuum blade Is a good one, It's a straight up sword buff, make our sword effectively longer an vastly vastly sharper. The Flying Swallow technique is rather similar to the previous one In that you can extend a semi-visible blade of chakra from a weapon to varying lengths to slash your opponent when they think they would be safe from your reach. Only downside to that technique Is we would need a special sword, built to channel chakra. We could probably experiment with how different chakra natures work with the Flying swallow as I seem to recall Asuma used his Wind Chakra to Increase his techniques lethality, but the technique Is a neutral chakra type, so I wonder what water might give, or earth or fire. Water might give us a chakra blade that could bend and weave to strike from odd positions, almost as If our sword had a sword. Earth might give the chakra field an utter crushing force behind It and utterly smash those unprepared to deal with It.

I still think chakra strings might be fun, we could use them to wield small blades or even big blades from a distance for sneak attacks or just using kenjutsu techniques from range.

We could always experiment with jutsu once we're skilled enough, perhaps make our own jutsu variants or create our own If we really wanted. I'm Itching for a wind style Iaido draw technique, draw slash and resheath and something In front of you Is cut to pieces by Invisible blades, It'd be anime as fuck.
>>
>>3263686
Agreed, that would be anime as fuck, but I'm hoping for water style, partially for those sweet sweet nationalist points, part because I don't really wanna be the sword girl with the sword skills and sword-no-jutsu (there's already the shark guy with the shark sword and the shark-no-jutsu).
Beyond that, If you can create water then whose to say you can't make bad juju Chakra infused water? Basically toxins. Either to coat our blades or to take advantage of cuts we've already inflicted. On top of that I'm sure we could learn/figure out similar water flavored sword techniques.
>>
>>3263947
The idea I had for a custom “water sword” for Myon was essentially a normal katana with two long deep fullers in the side, the gimmick being that the fullers hold onto a bladesworth of water (or blood in a pinch). Basically Myon would use the water in the fullers to double the length of her iado slash since the water moves to the tip of the blade.

She could also do nifty things like throw the water for a water style version of a wind slash or change the shape of the water part of the blade at will.
>>
>>3263686
As for ninjutsu, aside from general utility techniques like water clone jutsu or body flicker, she could learn a water jutsu that stops bleeding. Not a healing jutsu per se, just one that’ll prevent herself or others from bleeding out.

Or one that does the opposite...

Yes that would basically scream "villain" but...
We're a Kiri ninja, for one, and also raised in a country ruined by a massive war, about to head into another massive war, while taking just about every opportunity to howl about how the world will regret their actions and how our glorious people shall rise and take our revenge.

Kind of reminds me of someone but I can't quite remember who. Either way it doesn't scream really scream "heroic protagonist"

Best of 3 is generally what I'm comfortable with, as I find it fairly simple and allows multiple anons a chance to cast their vote and make an impact on the game and the story.

This particular mission, you guys happened to roll extremely well but I've seen the inverse happen before in games I've ran where Anons repeatedly failed to make even a low DC.

While fighting Hidan, I would have had him roll himself in the fight except Myon dominated him before he had much opportunity to do anything. What with taking out his sentry zombie and successfully ambushing him. I imagine if you guys failed even one of your stealthy/pereception rolls that Myon would have had a much rougher time of things.

I do kind of employ a little bit of a Degrees system, in that I sometimes allow for a greater success if the DC was greatly exceeded and I'd do the inverse as well with a great failure.

One thing I have considered is slightly increasing the Crit Range on rolls. Nothing too crazy, but maybe something like Crit failing on a 1-3 and Crit succeeding on a 98-100.

I dig all these ideas. Myon might get a chance to work on learning or developing new techniques fairly soon, and I'm interested in seeing how she evolves into a deadlier combatant!

>As for ninjutsu, aside from general utility techniques like water clone jutsu or body flicker, she could learn a water jutsu that stops bleeding.

That reminds me a little of how Waterbenders in Avatar could heal wounds. It would definitely stand out amidst all the more violent techniques in Kirigakure.

Fair enough, I'll point out that 98+ is not unlikely while 1-3 is incredibly unlikely and leave it there, also agreed. Tanya was great.

I like to headcanon that each nation has their own healing tradition. So while top mednin are using the 'remove all traces from your chakra' thing by now, there could be another level under that based on the local chakra, plants, and animals. Like the various wiseman/woman traditions that came before modern medical science
