/qst/ - Quests

You are 999, a blobby mass of joy and happiness for all! And you are currently internally panicking at the steadily worsening condition of what may as well be your brother.

List of (most of) your current Traits/Skills/Trinkets/Friends&Enemies/Unknowns: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DTotahWWAV6ZsE9tjkoC82psDp-gm2R64OzuK1Euq9I/edit?usp=sharing

New Stuff:
>Bond with the Four Sword (D++): The legendary blade regularly thrums in your grasp now, and seems ever slightly more attuned to you as its chosen wielder.
>Chorus of Pain (F): Through the combined power of yourself and your three counterparts, even the mightiest of titans can be felled through the force of your voice. Just don't do it next to your other allies.
>Voice Of Pain (E+): You have a somewhat better degree of manipulation over how much energy you can channel through your voice. Perhaps you should take on singing later?

Previously on 999 Quest:

To say that your encounter with the heads of the local werewolf pack had gone south would be a horrendous understatement. As it currently stands, a major chunk of what was supposed to be the meeting grounds for both you and the Uratha has been heavily ruined, turned into a near-ashen waste. With all this destruction courtesy of the entity known as Karcist Varis.

Though it was a long and agonizing fight, you and your friends, along with some aid from the werewolves themselves, had managed to fight back and eventually destroy Varis and his spawned monstrosities, reclaiming the area from its influence. But at a cost...

...Namely, the wheezing form of Blue lying on the near-barren ground, being looked over by both the spiritual healers of the Uratha, Purple, and Blackwood. You, Spanko and Red ait off to the side, albeit close enough that the three of you could jump in at any moment should the need arise.

But even so, as you watch Blue rasp once more in unknown agony, you see the tendrils of curling darkness within spread ever further, even in spite of the attempts by the gathered magic-users to stifle its growth.

You doubt Blue has much more time.

>Envelop him with a loving hug. While the power of love might not be enough to cure him, it may at least dull his pain and improve his mood.
You move on over to Blue, moving forward as the gathered magic-users part with your advance. Your movement isn't halted by anyone in the slightest, beyond some particularly stubborn werewolves who you lightly push away. They know what this means to you.

You come next to Blue, who's shuddering and shaking with pained breaths. And as he does so, you reach down to hug him. His shudders seem to still for a moment, as your touch reaches into the writhing darkness inside him, flowing through it-
And then you're suddenly sent flying backwards, your back hitting a tree as you do so. You can now hear Blue *screaming* in pain nd the frantic cries of the others as they rush to hold him down. A vague feeling of mocking laughter flits through your head at this.

Okay. You need a new plan.

"[Orange, I mean no insult, but I highly doubt *more* purifying energy is going to be of help here.]" Purple telepathically sends to you, as his pseudopods move to wrangle and restrain Blue, glowing a dim violet light. "[In fact, that's more likely to make things worse. His corruption seems to be fastening its spread rather than regressing due to our energies. And your hug has seemingly kicked it into overdrive.]"

"[In all likelihood, I'd suggest that we simply put an end to his misery should things not-]"

"[No.]" Another voice suddemly joins into your conversation. Shockingly enough, it's Red who does so, voice hard and utterly bereft of his typical stuttering. "[We're going to save him. No failure. No ifs. No buts.]"

"[But we-]"

"[What did I just fucking say?]"

"[....]"

Amidst the shocked and stunned silence of all of your allies and friends (and even yourself), you have to admit; you kinda like this Red a *tiny* bit more than his old self.

>Ask everyone around "Does anyone EXCEPT for Purple have any ideas?"
"Blorble-borb?" Ignoring Purple's attempts to justifying killing Blue, you turn to the rest of them.

"[We *could* enter his soulscape. Try and cure him from within.]" Red sighs out, zero stutter or shakiness to be seen as he looks over his limbs. "[Really risky, but we could try.]"

Several objections ring out at that idea, startling you, and merely causing Red to give the people shouting the most dull and tired look you've ever seen from him.

"[What do you think you are suggesting!? Diving into his soul? Have you gone utterly mad?!]" Purple shouts out, his expression a grand mixture of anger, confusion, and most of all, worry.

"[Yeah, probably. Think my give-a-damn got busted when I just saw *my own brother* get skewered like a *pig* in front of me, and I did absolutely *nothing* to try and stop it. But I'll definitely check back in with you when shit gets fixed, Doc.]"

Whilst Purple stands agame and likely in some form of shock, you turn to the others and suggest some more plans. Namely:

>Merging our bodies?
"[Yeah, this sounds like a great idea, Orange. Let's just merge our bodies with the guy screaming in unfathomable horrendous agony and has eldritch shit flowing through him. 10/10, best plan of the year. Nothing could ever go wrong with it.]"

"Whilst I'll admit that the other lad has a very gruff way of showing it, he does have a point, my boy. Such an attempt could utterly corrupt you, in a similar manner to our blue youngling here, and just make things worse."

>Removing the infected mass?
"[Do you honestly think that will work? He'll just regrow it, and we'll be back at step fucking one here.]"

"[I'll agree with Red here (though I hate to admit it).]" The voice of Purple comes in, seemingly having recovered from his mental shock at Red's newfound bluntness. "[The infection is negating Blue's natural purifying essence. I don't think we can simply remove it physically. Not with causing irreversible damage to his very makeup atleast.]"

"[Orange, this is the dumbest idea I've ever heard you suggest. And you've suggested quite a lot of those.]" Red states, voice hopelessly flat. "[I'm the one who suggested the plan, so of fucking course I'm going.]"

"[I won't be however, though not because it would be too dangerous (which it obviously is, Orange). I'll need to remain here to make sure that the thaumaturgic bindings we've set up to limit the infections spread don't erode whilst you're in there. And to make sure that Blue doesn't do anything too violent whilst you're gone.]" Purple replies, head stuck deep into a book, as whispering sigils of violet light float idly over his head.

"[Well, if we have all our roles set out and shit, then can we get this clusterfuck started?]" Red turns over to the shivering form of Blue. "[Because Blue is looking like a shitpile right now.]"

And indeed, you watch as strange grey lights dance within Blue's innards, shifting and writhing and pulsating. Growing and enclosing themselves around the ever-darkening blue coloration of your brother (when did you start thinking of him like that?) Arcs of crackling light lance out from Blue's body and strike the ground as the strange masses do their no doubt grim work, sending many of you jumping away from your spots as they land.

"[Yeah. Definitely a shitpile.]"

>Lets get into his Soulscape and try to save him.
"Blorble-blorb!" You nod vigorously at Red and Purple, with the former giving a small grunt before stepping toward the now-calming Blue whilst the latter nods to you and gets back to calming Blue down, alongside the other magic-users.

You step forward finally, alongside Red, and proceed to place your hands on Blue as Red does the same. A light bubble of white energy encased the both of you as you feel yourself being drawn forwards into Blue's soulscape.

"[Alright, you're connected. We'll try to anchor the two of you here, but we're not sure how Blue is going to react to you entering his soul.]" Purple elaborates, scrawling tunic patterns on the dirt. "[So we need you two to get to the center of Blue's soulspace, and purge the infection at its root. If it's pulled off successfully, then the damage will likely be reversed.]"

"Blorble!" You respond in the affirmative, as Red simply grunts, the white light starting to cloud your vision entirely. Purple turns to you, as if to say something more, a warning perhaps, but by that time the light fully encompasses you, and you're somewhere else.

...Somewhere that really doesn't look all that pleasant.

>Look around and head for the center.
"[Alright, this place is fairly fucked up. But that's to be expected, really.]" Red notes, as he stares at the various mounds of sickly dark and pulsating flesh all over the area. "[Let's look around, and try to home in on the center of this mess.]"

You nod, and move alongside him as you survey the the twisted, nightmarishly fleshy landscape before you. Was this really Blue's soulscape? How bad had the infection truly gotten? Could this even be reversed now?

"[Stop.]" Red suddenly says, cutting into your train of worried thinking. "[We've gotta gap in our path here. We'll have to fly or try to figure out another go-around, but it probably won't be all that safe looking at things.]"

You look past Red to see what he's talking about. And yup. That's one large gape alright, probably stretching for some miles down, beofre coming to a painful stop atop what looks like a sea of spiked bone and flesh that stretches on for quite a ways into the distance. And looking at the air, you see odd things flapping about in foul winds, their forms shortening and lengthening and bloating at random, and at times, all at once.

Seems this might be a bit harder than you'd thought.

You nod to Red, before shifting your form and leaping off, avian wings allowing you to fly safely through the air as you note Red coming in behind you. Your flight path offers little resistance, but it also draws you dangerously close to the things in the air who are....'odd' to say the least.

For starters, they seem less like beings, and more like tangible holes in existence, complete absences of anything and yet somehow being capable of manifesting in some manner, with whatever-they-are being capable of elongating and bloating and shorting themselves at will.

"[Pretty fucking obvious how bad Blue's getting fucked up if things like this are cropping up in his soul.]" Red grunts, looking at some of the absences for a moment as they slowly drift in the air. "[Come on, we can land on that patch below and keep searching.]" Red dives downwards, towards a spot of flesh-covered ground, where a few more of those void-things float about lazily. But something feels wrong about it. Very, very wrong.

A flash of seething red energy comes searing into your vision and you barely have time to dive down yourself and push Red hurtling to the fleshy 'ground' before it utterly envelops your previous position, before vanishing with a hiss and a feeling of raw infernal hate.

"[Hmm, honestly thought that would hit you, blorb. Oh well. Guess we can always try again, blorb.]"

You hear a voice, light and calm, and yet you feel that that's just a thin veneer for something else. Something far more violent than the calm tones would suggest. And another thing;

Doesn't that voice sound like your own?

>Pull out our sword and wave it around threateningly at wherever the voice is coming from.
>"Who are you!? Because I already have quite a good idea...."
"[Hehehehahahehahahaha...]" the voice giggles to itself, laughing at some joke only it understands. "[Oh, you do? Because last I checked, blorb, *I* was the only one who actually knew what he was meant to be. I'm the only one who actually has a *pupose* here, blorb. All the rest of you? Only delusions keeping the real thing locked out.]"

"[Especially you, 'Orange'.]"

The once distant-sounding voice is suddenly right next to you, almost pressing into your ear. You whirl around, carrying your blade in an arc to send it back, as both you and Red wheel around to see the figure behind the voice itself.

A hideous visage assaults you at that moment. A gelatinous form much like yours, but sickly colored, akin to bubbling and oozing tar, parts of it dripping and sizzling deep into the fleshy ground beneath you. Its innards burn with a deep scarlet flame, at once hideous and hateful and familiar and beautiful and destructive and-

Red places a hand on you, shaking you slightly, and you calm down some, breathing out. You look back at the ever more disturbing figure before you.

Small protrusions near its head stick out, twisting slightly as if to resemble curling horns. The protrusions themselves are tipped in the same hellish flame boiling in the centre of the entity, deeply hateful and vile and yet terribly familiar to you for a reason that you can't quite place. As you look at the rest of its body, you see eyes open wide upon it, raw madness reflected in their gaze as they look at you. And as you look back, the familiar feeling intensifies, to the point that you can almost place it. Almost-

An image flashes through your mind, and you suddenly fall to the ground retching, with Red barely having time to catch and hold you up. As you finisdhvomiting out a *something* that certainly wasn't a part of your mass before, you look back up, back to the *thing* before you as it simply smiles in return.

A lance of raw purifying light shoots from your body, and swarms towards the imposter, who's many eyes widen in realization before the wave of white light sweeps over him. Within seconds, the light blazes away into the distance, fading quickly.

"[Shit, Orange. That's some of the most I've seen you put out!. You really hated that fucker, huh?]"

You look up at Red, and nod weakly. You don't know why, but something about him jsut felt utterly w*wrong* to you. Not the least of it him calling you, Red, and Blue "delusions", along with claiming to *be* 'you'.

"BLORBLE! Blorble-blorb! [TALK! Now!]" You shout at the offending figure, who casually strolls out of nowhere, seeming no worse for wear.

"[Yeah, just who the fuck are you? And why are you here, in Blue's soul?]" Red comes in, letting you go as you fully lift yourself up, his eyes glaring daggers at the creature before you.

"[Who am I they ask? Didn't I just tell you, blorb ? I'm *you*.]" The thing chuckles, voice sounding akin to your own, but entirely *wrong*. "[The real you, to be more precise. And had things gone even slightly better, I would be the *only* you. None of you delusions would've come into being.]"

You're about to ask him what he means by that, but another spike of pain lances through your mind, a series of images flowing through your head. Images of some horrible titanic force, greater than anything you've seen thus far, its many horrible eyes glancing into you. Those same eyes being reflected back at you in the shape of this bastardization of your form.

"[And as for why I'm in 'Blue's' soul, blorb? Well, you can't exactly leave a place if you're a part of that place now, can you? In truth, I'm in all of you, always watching and waiting. Blue's situation just gave me the ability to rectify that mistake.]"

"Blorble-blorb!" You and Red level your swords at the imposter, the blade's pulsating light acting as additional confirmation that the thing before you certainly doesn't fall very high on the Good scale of the spectrum.

"[Me? Mockery, blorb?]" It chuckles yet again, and closes its many eyes, as if in deep contemplation. "[Well I cannot expect mere constructs of my mind to ever have the slightest hope of truly understanding what they say. I made you all too simple for that, blorb. Too 'heroic'. Enough for a challenge, but not enough to be anything more.]"

"[I'm done listening to this guy's bullshit. Orange, you thinking what I'm thinking?]" Red turns to you, his body lighting up with a brilliant energy that crackles along the blade of his sword.

"[Ahh, I truly love watching you both struggle so. It's always amusing to see what kind of interactions my mental pigments will get up to, blorb.]" The imposter sighs, chuckling to itself. "[But I believe that we have a show to begin, no?]"

The creature's eyes snap open all at once suddenly, and the air ripples and distorts, before snaking downwards towards you and Red, invisible forces moving to crush you underneath their mass.

You dart forward, leaping past the rippling tides of distorted air, with Red following quickly behind, blades clinging as you bare down on the imposter. The creature erects a barrier of energy before you, but a little too late. You bring the blade down, tearing through its defenses, and causing the entity to leap backwards, seeming just a tad bit....curious?

"[That's indeed a powerful blade you have there, blorb.]" It notes casually, many eyes staring forward with their mad gazes. "[Truly a nice little gift on the part of your now-dead archmage 'friend'.]"

"[But I wonder how it will fare against *this*?]"

The ground beneath you explodes suddenly, as the shrieking cry of thousands upon thousands of those terrible absences that you had avoided earlier pierces the foul air, their ever-twisring forms pulling upwards and coalescing into something far more solid, yet no less horrible, with your imposter floating right into the center of the ever-growing mass.

Within seocnds, the hideous titan of rippling dakrness and burning scarlet towers over you, terrible wings glistening with dripping blood stretching as far as you can look around. At its head, you watch the bastardization of your form seated on a throne of bone, gazing down at you plainly.

180. Pretty damn good. You get yourself up to your doppelganger pretty quickly. Writing.

>dodge the attack and then use our bird form to fly up to it's head and melee attack the imposter directly.
You and Red move out of the way, just as the titan of fused shadows crashes its limb against the fleshy ground below you, with the both of you shifting your forms into birds in order to take the fight to the air some. You decide to speed to the head of the beast, toward your imposter, whilst Red dress its attention.

Descending quickly, you shift into your standard form, and bring your swords crashing down, spiritual power rolling off it in waves as the blade comes an inch away from your doppleganger's head, ready to slice it into nothingness-

Until you feel the blade hitch, and with a sudden push of force, you're sent flying backwards, skidding across the uppermost half of the titanic creature, almost falling off it entirely. Looking forward as you push yourself up, you watch as your imposter approaches with slow methodical movements.

...A dark caricature of oyur own blade gripped in his hand.

"[Did you really think you alone possessed such a weapon, blorb? You are truly a rather pathetic part of myself if you thought me so weak as to not be one to wield a weapon of my own. A *better* weapon even.]"

>get back into melee and sword fight him. We'll see who's the superior swordsman!
You grab your sword, and speed towards him, as he does likewise, slamming the blades against each other.

"[You insist in perpetuating this fruitless endeavor, and for what purpose? For the Foundation? For the wretched doctors who think they understand what you are, what *I* am? For your so-called 'friend's? For those equally worthless delusions you have now come to believe are your 'brothers'?]" He growls, each phrase punctuated by him pressing the blade down further and further, causing you to sink into the not-flesh of the raging titan beneath you. "[Youve forgotren your own *purpose*, and so you insist on further dividing yourself from the original, the origin. All so you can feign 'goodness'.]" An image of a king in scarlet dances in your mind at the mad words.
You try to push up against him, managing to send him back slightly, and you spin around, bringing your blade to his face, and slicing off some of his form, which bubbles and fizzles out of existence. The imposter growls yet again, and slams his blade down, waves of power arcing out and sending you hurtling backwards. Before you can even hit the ground, he's in front of you, and slams you downwards with a well-placed strike, blade shaking the air with crackling power as you spiral and hit the ground painfully, with him floating on down shortly thereafter.

"[And to think that *this* is what His blood and my mind wasted time on. A pathetic mass that desperately fights for some foolish notion of 'friendship' and 'love'.]" The twisted reflection of yourself states as it stalks forward, blade raised. "[Doesn't matter now, blorb. The game is over. You have lost, and I have won, as it always should be. But you can rest easy, Orange. Knowing that youll get to become part of something *better* once again. Something *pure*.]"

The blade is raised to pierce through you and end your existence, as he stands right over you. You can only watch as he chuckles to himself, before drawing the blade down towards you. A quick end awaiting you, and no doubt Red soon after-

...But it never comes. The blade halts mere inches over you, hovering with malevolence. And besides that, you can feel a familiar, sea-blue light wash over you.

"[Huh. Seems he's dumb enough to reveal himself over you, after all.]" The imposter notes hopelessly, looking out into the distance next to you. Following his gaze, you catch a single star of blue light, some ways out, flickering and sputtering slightly, but shining nonetheless.

"[Well, if he's going to make my job so utterly easy, then I guess I'll indulge him, blorb. Enjoy my mercy, Orange, small it may be. I have a body to regain.]"

With those ominous words, the doppelganger unfurl a set of foul wings, before speeding off into the distance towards the blue light. As he does, you feel the mass beneath you hiss and lurch. It feels suspiciously lighter now, if you're being honest.

race him to blue light, we must reach it before him!

Also try to use our snow-storm while flying to slow him down.

Gonna need another roll for this one. Mostly because he already has a major head start on you.

>race him to blue light, we must reach it before him!

You get up and look around, noting that the once giant titan is starting to disintegrate without its master to control it. Huh, would ya look at that. You try to get a 'feel' for Red, but it looks like he's already gone, having sped off after the imposter announced his plans so blatantly.

Without a moment's more hesitation, you spread some of your limbs in a similar wing-shape as he did (except nicer) and rocket off the decaying titan, homing in on the essence of the imposter and Red, who seem to be locked in a struggle between themselves. Looking beyond them, you can see the blue light, its brightness growing ever closer.

"[Begone, you accursed figment! This is MY body! MINE!!]"

"[It's never been anything of yours! And it never will.]"

They frantically rush and clash blades, shouting curses to the other all throughout as the light quickly begins to encompass your field of vision. Gripping your Dream Trinket, you think that it's well past time to end this.

Drawing on a fount of internal energy, you unleash it in a storm of crushing ethereal power, snow and slashing shards of ice that descends upon both the imposter and Red (sorry, Red!). The imposter barely has time to gape in surprise before the snow-storm descends on him and sends the both of them tumbling into the blue wave of light.

...He *fdoes* have enough time to snag you with a peudopod though, to pull you in after him. Which you can only assume is a bad thing.

You plummet into the same blue light, as the wave rushes upon you. You can only pray that whatever's on the other side is merciful.

The missing digit and the question mark puzzles me.

You get to see Blue's insecurities and fears of course! And possibly how he views you and the others too

All intentional. Ignore the missing digit and question mark. Especially the missing digit.
