Without knowing what you're going to say, you open your mouth and speak. "I'm not Minerva." You manage, keeping yourself calm and neutral, "I am Purps. I don't speak for her, I don't have any right to Arch Lectorship or any desire to be badgered for opinions on church decor and scripture debates." You step close to Jo and take one of her hands in both of yours, "I'm your Sunsister. Your friend. I'm your equal in all ways."

"Purps, you're just saying it to make me happy. I know what you are." She squeezes your hand, "She has picked you."

"And yet you're the more devout of us. I might be stronger, or wield more of her power. But that doesn't mean I'm not your Sunsister. You'd die for me and I'd die for you." You pull her to her feet and reach into her locker for the final piece of her breastplate. "So let's get into some trouble together?" A little life returns your voice as you shrug.

"Of course. Let's try and bring Cellahad back." She says, slamming a gauntleted fist into a steel palm.

"And Xanadaar." You remind her, leading the way from the locker room. The clanking footsteps of your companion steeling your spirit.

"Do we have to? That thing gives me the creeps." She shudders, "The Sea Shanta back home were all degenerates and cannibals. Some even worshipped Darna."

"Well, as far as I know he's no Darnite. And I can attest that he seems decent and orderly." You and Jo both swing over to the ancient and gnarled woods that dominate the backside of the Academy. "If he was anything but honourable, I'd suggest he would not have taken those quills for Cellahad and I."

Jo seems to consider it, "But what if he was just saving his meals? You know how animals get with food."

"Jo."

"Yeah?" She responds.

"He's not an animal. Don't be rude." You scold, noticing that there is almost nobody crossing the courtyards after class. It is the time for evening meals, but such a populated metropolis as Academy City and with so many students enlisted; you expected to see somebody.

"Fine. But only if you actually try to be diplomatic with the Fae." She insists, "I'm too hangry to deal with an all out brawl."

The two of you stop at the edge of the FaeWood, the shimmering silver dome barrier that Zar Tan bypassed with his crest blocking any further encroachment. Up close, you can practically taste the wards that have been placed upon it and feel the suppressed whispers of forest spirits in your mind. Without this magic, you're pretty sure the arcane magicks would be trying to ensnare your will.

"So, what's the plan Purps?" Jo asks, seemingly amused that you might be thwarted so easily.
>>
>>3274611

"Do you have any ideas?" You ask her, tilting your head. In truth you think she probably has less extreme methodology than any of the plans you feel confident would work in piercing the barrier.

"Well, Cellahad would be the person I'd normally ask about this magic stuff." She admits with a bit of uncertainty. "So, we need to find another wizard to help us out."

"There's that second year kid..." You say as you walk away from the barrier again, Jo falling into step dutifully behind you. The greatsword resting on her shoulder seems to weigh nothing to her. "Looks kinda devillish?"

"Oh, so he's got that whole handsome rogue thing?" Jo says, grinning. "Can I call dibs?"

You're surprised enough that you drop back to stand side by side and assess your friend, she looks positively overjoyed at meeting this imagined delinquient with a heart of gold. "He, actually looks like a like a devil." You state, "Literally. He had horns and purpleish grey skin."

"Oh." She seems glum until she adds, "But like an attractive devil or?"

"Okay, before we tramp around the male dorms without chaperone to recruit someone into a probably frowned upon plan to infiltrate the faewoods." You briefly consider if that is a wise thing to do before focusing on what's important, your curiosity - "Why in Minerva's name are you so interested in this devil boy?"

Jo looks a little uncertain what to say and your pace significantly slows as the blonde giant umms and errs over her wording, "Well you see. It's not quite. The devil boy specifically."

"So what, you're just really interested in wizards? Or do you just have like, a fetish for devilish rogues? Like, the cunning kind of devilish and not the devil like kind." You clarify before you get into another misunderstanding.

"Well, it's not so much this boy. As any boy." She says in a voice small enough that it would fit Stellavarnious instead of Jo.

"Come again?" You say, completely wrong footed.

"I'm looking for a boyfriend alright!" She says, a little harshly. "And like, I'm super happy for you and your partner. But not all of us are able to just casually date, my family have expectations and standards."

> [PRIDE] Yet you don't have standards beyond having a dick. Jo, you're better than that.

You can't help but reach out to Jo's hand and squeezing it. Your red eyes meet her, "Jo. That's... Terrible."

"What? Not all of us have found our love like you and Miss Honamurei." She says defensively, trying to pry her hand free of your grip.

You try to arrange your thoughts into a somewhat coherent order, but it's a struggle amidst the weirdness of today, "First of all, why are you calling her Miss Honamurei? Seriously, it's weird."

"Well, she is like. Eight nine years old." Jo says, "She's older than my parents by almost two decades. Just seems proper to call her Miss Honamurei y'know?"

"That doesn't mean you have to drop your standards to anything with a penis... C'mon Jo, you're better than that. You could break a horse's spine over those legs. You could wrestle an ogre! You're amazing." You rant, "Plus, starting a relationship because someone will do? That's not going to be healthy or long lasting."

Jo seems at a loss for words, the big girl just drawing a circle with her plate boot and staring right at it. You decide to le the silence linger as you both climb the stairs, but your amazonian friend breaks the brief peace. "But, if not now, when?"

"We'll find someone for you. Someone who deserves you." You nudge her, "Probably not someone who's infernal though, you're a little too holy for that."

She chuckles along with you at your comments, "Yeah, maybe someone with red hair... I mean, if I had the choice."

"You will have the choice." You promise, "Probably already do and don't know it."

"Well hopefully whoever has their eye on me makes their move.. I'm not getting any younger." She bemoans, looking up at the ancient spire.

"Wait. How old are you?" You ask, pushing open the heavy great doors that lead into The Academy Proper, the wide room full of bustling activity. You spot a familiar pair of wings gliding over all of the commotion, though whoever she is flying with is obscured by the thick smoke.

You have no idea why but it seems like there's some kind of grand feast being prepared by a menagerie of first and second years under the direction of Starrk. You never thought about it, but wouldn't the Centaur count as Fae? "I'm twenty four years old Purps. I don't have much longer to get married."

"Oh." You say simply while waiting on an overly large cooking pot be moved by a pair of squat dwarves. You can't help but marvel at the intricacy of their clothing, it seems to glimmer with stones despite the rather worn state of it's threadwork. "Is that... Old to be unwed for your area?"

"What? Of course it is! How old are you anyway Sunsister?" She asks.

"I'm seventy years old." You say as monotone as ever, hoping she doesn't pry. "And you should respect your elders young lady."

"Did you just joke?" Jo asks confused, honestly you were hoping she'd at least chuckle. "I mean, it's funny. But with your whole monotone and deadpan thing it's hard to tell y'know?"

"I was joking yes." You say, scowling fiercely. "Y'know Sunsister, you know how to make a girl feel even more unsettling than she is." The admonishment seems to hit home a lot harder than you expected, as Jo seems to shrink from being a head taller than you. Being so tall and well armed aids you well in navigating the crowds for whatever this strange cooking class, festival or banquet is.

Working your way through the crowd you can't help but marvel at some of the oddities, a giant sitting in the corner with a pot bigger than most houses. Pale men with gleaming fanged mouths dissecting a raw organ from some kind of cattle with their clawed hands and harpies of varying appearances all swarming around their meals.

All the chaos makes it very easy for you to work your way to the staircases for the boys' dorms without notice. In fact, you're pretty sure the staff are spread thing trying to keep this event in line, as you make out the forms of your Father and Chiron speaking animatedly in amongst a throng of off duty inquisition members. "So, what is our plan here Purps? Are we just going to waltz on up the stairs?"

"Okay, before we go sneaking around. We'll just ask whoever the dorm Patron is for the second years. I know that the first year boys have that Blacksmith guy and Haryan, so who would it be for the second years?"

Jo shrugs, "Well, I know that it has to be a male staff member. They only let us have Den Mothers after all; so that kind of just leaves."

"Zar Tan and-" You begin before being cut off.

"Your father, yes." Lexington says from behind you both. As you whirly you can't help but notice that he looks a lot younger since he's been teaching again. Some of the weight has lifted off his shoulders; instead of a wizened old sage he looks firmly in his late middle ages. "And it'd be really bad of me to not ask why you two are lurking outside the male wing." He walks around you to block the stairs, "Especially when you look like you're gonna fight someone." He nods to Jo and then sticks his thumb at you, "And you look like you're going to kill someone mid lapdance."

"Well you see the thing is." You say, mind blanking as you realise you don't really have any particularly good explanation.

"Yeah, what's the thing Purps?" Lex parrots while crossing his arms. Everything about his tone just seems to annoy you right now.

"We're looking for someone. He was supposed to meet us but did not show Professor Lexington." Jo looks like she's going to curtsey but can't; settling for a bent knee and inclined head. "We'd just like to find him before it's too late for our plans."

"Plans that involve your weapons?" Lex said suspiciously.

> [FRUSTRATION] It's none of your business just let us go get him.

> [FRUSTRATION] How are you here anyway, you're downstairs!

"Look dad." You say, crossing your arms, "Jo has a date."

"That's Professor Lexington to you Purps." He admonishes, smiling wide to your companion. "So you've got yourself a date? With a second year?" He looks up and down, "And you decided to get your armour and sword for it?"

Jo looks mortified but manages to mutter out, "He asked me to."

"He asked you to wear full plate and bring your sword." The amount of amusement that Lexington is drawing from this very obvious lie is immeasurable, "And your excuse for looking ready to lapdance murder is?"

"I'm just here to rip his cock off if he does anything ungentlemanly." You place a hand over your chest, "If he so much as looks at my abs or chest I will rip the flesh from his bones. It's the least I could do for Jo."

"Yes, you are notorious for your charity Purps." From thin air a cigarette simply seems to grow out of his mouth, the old wizard simply lighting it with his fingers as is his want. Your fingers twitch in temptation and you can't help but seethe. He's doing this deliberately he wants you to snap. "So yer going on a date?"

"Yes." Jo bows her head, "Please can I head upstairs to find out what is keeping my date?"

Lexington blows smoke into your face, seemingly considering the proposal. Why the hell is he trying to get you to lose your temper? He comes to a decision, "No."

"What?" You and Jo say in incredulous anger. "Why the hell not?" You add.

"Because ah don't believe you. You can wait here and I'll go get whoever it is."

"Thank you Professor Lexington." Your sunsister says politely. It's taking a lot of effort to keep your face nice and blank.

"So what's his name?" He asks smugly. Giving you all the rope you need to hang yourself.

"Since when do you care about rules anyway? You've spent the entire time I've known you breaking as many as you can out of your own self interest." Delivering such a complaint in monotone makes it somehow all the more awkward.

Lexington doesn't address it right away, turning to Jo. "I uh, don't know him as anything but Purps' friend. She said we'd have fun."

"Uh huh." He coughs, "Well, to start with; I'm gonna need a name before I can do anything to help you two ladies." He dusts off his robes, "And, to clarify. The reason why I won't break rules here." The man you're being forced to call father looks almost as serious as the day he marched off to battle one of his students to death for your sake, "That if either of us get kicked out of The Academy, Honamurei does not receive the eye that Haryan and I are working on."

Jo gasps, evidently not aware of anything to do with Hona's eye. The atmosphere seems to have changed at that and you can't help but clench your fists at the implications of his comment. "They wouldn't punish her for anything we do, surely?"

"It won't be punishing her." He explains, "But the only reason the project has been approved is because I agreed to teach again." Lexington takes off his glasses and rubs the bridge of his nose. For the first time in a long time, the harrowing sensation of his glowing green eyes spreads across both of your bodies. "So darling, I will not be letting you conduct whatever mischief or plot you have with my ward. Are we clear?"

"Fine." You growl, hooking your arm in your friend's "C'mon Jo. We'll find someone else."

Without further ado you both march away, heading back down the stairs to the grand hall. From above, everything looks even more chaotic as you witness the comings and goings of countless town residents. It seems that in your time upstairs, you have missed the last of the setup and now the students are putting on some kind of international culinary festival.

In fact, you can pick out the red headed daughter of Karhea, Jul Dyn and her friend. Both of them sport wounds that suggest they've either been engaged in heavy sparring or coming back from some extra time at the martial field.

However it's not them that your gaze lingers on, it's the very intricate lace umbrella of a girl you bumped into outside your dorms. She still wears her almost noblewoman quality black dress, as if in mourning. She must be a denizen of the Academy town if she isn't in uniform. Jo shakes you from the musing on her strangeness, "So, if our devil wizard is out, what do we do now?"

"I don't know. I was considering just stealing my father's pass to be quite honest." You admit, leaning on a banister and taking in the smells below, "Or even just marching up the exterior wall."

"That won't work. The spire isn't the same as it is inside outside remember? You can jump out but can't really climb in." Jo joins you, leaning on the surface until she hears a low creak. Wisely, she opts not to test the weight of her armour against it anymore.

"Stupid artifacts. Why can't they just make sense?" You bitch, letting out a huffy sigh like a toddler.

"They wouldn't be special then would they?" Jo snarks, drawing a reluctant but natural smile from you. "We could always seek another wizard, it's not like they're a rarity here."

"Well, we don't have Cella. Devil boy is out..." You mentally try to shake your brain out of it's self defeating state. Only now do you notice your saw has been in the form of two claws for a while. Perhaps your frustration is blinding you? "I suppose I could order an inquisition wizard to dispel it as a last resort."

"Or we could like, talk to a teacher? If you have any you trust."

The suggestion draws your eye to Jul Dyn again. "Karhea is an option. Magically gifted and has some tenderness for me."

Jo gasps, "You didn't!"

"I didn't what?" Is all you can say; surprised at the beet face and furious glare of your Sunsister, "Seriously Sister you look like I've kicked a bunny."

Her armour clanks as she nervously fidgets with the strap of her bracer, "Were it so minor a trangression! What would Honamurei think if she knew! I wish I didn't have to keep that secret."

"Wait, you think I'm banging the school nurse?" The idea is, odd to you. Despite her appearance not being to your tastes, you don't find yourself as repulsed as you'd think. Maybe Karhea's story of a past friendship rings true.

"What else am I supposed to think when you make comments about tenderness?! Purps, your phrasing leaves much to be desired." She looks embarrassed for being wrong now.

"Well, firstly. Not every lesbian is constantly looking for girls, or a harem. Honestly, it doesn't mean I'm slutty or a housebreaker." A part of you points out you happen to be a slut for different reasons.

" Miss Karhea is married?" Jo says, "I had no idea."

"Well, now you know. She just likes me."

"Okay, so our options are finding a teacher and explaining. Finding another wizard, revealing your nature as champion and superseding the command structure of the Holy Inquisition... or..." She seems hesitant.

"Or?" You nudge.

"Giving up and enjoying the Festival of Food." Jo says, "Trust in the Academy and Zar Tan. They wouldn't just sacrifice two students to the fae without a fight? And a Fae who assists the Academy wouldn't act against it, would they? After all..." She gestures around, "The jaws of the school have many sharp teeth hidden behind it's smile."

She does raise a good point, enough of one to cause you to crave a cigarette. Where tobacco would be your thinking aid, this time you only have your thumb, what to do?

Options run through your mind as you see Stella flying around the impossibly high ceiling with a familiar looking winged creature.

For now at least. Maybe some food will help us think. And we can maybe talk to Stella and see if she know anyone.

"We need to find a new wizard. We don't know if Karhea will agree to help us, I'd rather not mess with the garrison or make Minerva's life more difficult. And I don't think I'm ready to give up just yet." You grip the bannister, "Though I don't know who we can ask."

Jo makes a noise of thought, "I highly doubt that Maria of Darna would support us in something like this. Not that I want the heretic anywhere near us."

"Plus her magic is like mine, borrowed. So I doubt she can use it naturally." Your dream walking adventures give you an idea, "What about the kid Chiron clammed into the ground during the orientation; Klaus?" Your position allows you to watch the ebb and flows of the crowd and you notice a woman with the body of a spider walking with a pair of ogre bodyguards.

"I think he is purely a warrior. I sparred with him in one of the martial courses after your grievous injury." Oh right, Hona killed you. Do people not know you literally got ressurected?

"Freyja is purely a technological mastermind. Which leaves us nowhere." You frown, surprised when you feel a weight land on your head.

Fox had landed himself amongst your hair, his little head peeking out over your forehead to stare at you upside down. His squak conveys more joy at your reunion than words could properly capture. Little gold sparks flicker around you when he scampers into your arms. No matter how hard you try the wetness of his nose causes you to squirm and snicker, distracting you from Stella's arrival. "Hey Jo! Hey Purps! You guys are missing the food."

"Hello Stella." Jo greets, fondness radiating. "I'm afraid we're kind of busy right now."

"Yeah sorry Stella."You scratch under Fox's chin remarking at how well Tornin has kept his coat, "We need to find a wizard."

"Oh. I don't think I know any wizards." Her plumage seems to cling tighter to her when she is disappointed. "Professor Lexington says that Matriarchs don't count as wizards. Something about our magic being in eight?"

"Stella, are you a matriarch?" Jo says warily.

"Yuh huh,I'm already laying eggs and I'm not even thirty!" She sings a little song that parts the smoke from the fires below. It's astounding how much of a breeze she whips up with the little song. "Plus, being a Matriarch means I get to do cool stuff with my song. I had to beat away a couple of local harpies with a stick I'm so charming."

"And that would explain why Fox likes you." You think aloud,"You bring good breezes."

"Yuh huh, I'm like. The best flyer. Gine is always giving me whatever breeze I want."

"Aren't you, a little short to be a Matriarch?" Jo asks, "I thought Matriarchs stood at around five foot tall."

"Lex said something about being a pupil stage." She flaps her wings, "Which means I get to learn about lots of stuff!"

I think we should focus on figuring out how to get through the barrier before gathering a party or else we will have to keep everyone from getting distracted while tramping about campus.
Asking the nurse is a good idea though, there is students in need of healing after all.

"Does your magic work with fae magic?" You ask a little too eagerly. The quickness and insistence in your expression is enough to make Stella take a half step back and gives Fox a start.

"Uh, I 'unno. What's a Fae?" Stella asks, digging her talons into the bannister on which you lean.

"Stella." Jo says in the slow and calm way you've come to associate with a parent telling their child something that should be readily apparent, "Have you been to the woods? The ones on the South West side of the grounds?"

The harpy's face grows serious, as she racks her brains. You hope that it is her trying to recall if she's ever been there, "South... West? That's two different directions."

It is very hard to keep your palm from your face, but you manage to do so. "The woods, close to where the food stores are?"

"Oh yeah! I like flying there. People say monsters are scary, but I've flown with some of them and they're all super nice." She moves from foot to foot and chirps a little, causing Fox to hop from your head to hers. His nose twitches as they both excitedly fidget, "Do you want to go there? I can go there with you. We can go together? Yes?"

> [DETERMINATION] Yes, let's go.

> [WORRY] Maybe I should find the boy looking after Fox first.

> No, just forget I mentioned it.

I'm a little worried that it could all go bad but we have students to save!
