Overhead the dull gray and black clouds obscured the shapes of the planes, a bassy thrum as their engines coughed and sputtered through the deep pollution and and gunsmoke above. Hundreds of years of bombardment had churned the earth and atomized the dirt and rocks to a fine powder that did nothing but sit above, a choking blanket for the battles that raged eternal. Your bones ached, a dull pain in your various wounds that throbbed in time with your heart beat. The deep mud underfoot made every step another fight, one against the very soil that your nation so valiantly fought for.

“Jäger...can you see any trees? Anything green?”

Nixie’s voice carries up from your breast pocket, a waver in her tone that sets to give away her concussed and shaken state. The image of Nixie getting her head smashed against the floor repeatedly is still fresh in your mind, as is Dok getting vaporized in a futile sacrifice against the ever present specter of death.

You shake such recent memories away, despite the knowledge only time will help erase these thoughts. You look out through the wastes and no man’s land, not a sight of green on the moonscape of hell come to earth.

“You could lie to her you know, or tell her. Not that she’d really know either in her current state.”

Another voice now, this one not from your pocket but inside your head. Almost whispered into your ear, a sultry accented tone that you aren’t quite sure where it comes from. How you came across this Banshee of The Choir and why it seemed to follow you only time would tell. From what she spoke perhaps The Choir wasn’t always so bent on singing a dirge of death out across the world.

“No Nixie...nothing green. Just pulverized mud as far as the eye can see.”

Nixie was quiet for a moment, before speaking back to you in a quiet voice dripping with exhaustion.

“I wish I could remember the green. Remember the forests and beauty. It’s been so long now. Hundreds of years without the smell of leaves or the sound of birds. Other than the carrion eaters…”

Nixie goes silent again, as if considering something in her small form.

“Nixie how old are you really?” You can’t help but ask the tiny fae, recalling her story of the christmas truce some time ago.

“437, young by Fae standards. I’m only just hitting what you humans would call puberty. What a way to spend it...out in this hell you all call a life.”

Silence reigns again, broken by intermittent explosions carrying over the wind from the front behind you. For how long you walk you aren’t sure, the movement of the sun blocked off by toxic clouds of atomized earth and dead. You find yourself wandering more than walking with a purpose, the toll of the day having sucked you dry of any energy.

The wind blows past you, almost a caress. Faintly, you hear the noise of billowing cloth next to you. You glance to your side, taking in the tall form of the Banshee next to you. Unlike the others, cracked and dessicated she looked like some sort of aristocrat. Her skin pale, raven black hair that bounced lightly with every stop.

“How far will you take this fight Jäger...how far do you plan to go. Will my sisters be cut before you like you do to the French? Will you try to save us? What about the war...do you plan to see this journey of yours through?”

The Banshee looked at you with the ghost of a smile, her eyes a supernova of colors.

“I don’t expect an answer really. I don’t expect you to even know.”

Reaching into your pocket and carefully patting Nixie you look to the Banshee and try to ignore the slight exhale of happiness coming from your uniform.

“If I could save everyone I would. Ending this war would be something that should have been done hundreds of years back. Though it is all I know I’m tired of living in no more of a state than the rats that feed on us. If saving the Choir will help me win then I’ll do all I can. Though judging from my last encounter I doubt that will be easy.”

The Banshee smiles knowingly.

“Yes, I’ve followed you for weeks. Hunted you and yet every turn you escaped. Except for the last encounter. I was ready to harvest you and your comrades. Yet somehow you overcame, and by an even stranger twist managed to bind me to you. Not that I’m complaining, it beats a millenia trying to reform some semblance of power.”

The Banshee talked at you more than with you, spilling out things you didn’t quite understand.

“That weapon of yours, the revolver. Whatever forces are at play in England know what they’re dealing with. I thought the line of Hellsing dead, their toys left in crypts to rust and crumble. Though it seems you yourself may have a touch of the blood, your blow with that monstrous shovel was agony.”

The Banshee licked her lips, groping herself slightly as she did.

“To be conquered in such a way brings me back. We weren’t always like this you know. We sung our songs as a lament rather than a dirge. Keening out for the loss of great lives, not trying to cut them down instead. All things changed with the war however. As all things must.”

“Ah forget the musings of a fallen maiden. I have a question though, that man you call Hauptmann, why did you do what you did? Do you feel any remorse for turning him into a monster against himself?”

You:

[1] Do not, every man for the war that can fight must

“Of course. The man was a great mind and I only hope he can retain it. Were there another option I’d have taken it. However, the war is never that simple.”

The Banshee was silent for a moment, pensive at the thought you put to her.

“For what it is worth I’m sorry. Had I been clearer in the head I hope that I couldn’t have put you in that situation.”

You nod once, allowing silence to follow in your footsteps.

“What should I call you? Do you have a name?” You ask out to her, curious about this creature.

“Whatever it was it is long lost to time. You can call me as you like. What do you want to call me Jäger? Perhaps a name? Perhaps a monster? Lover?”

The Banshee grins at you lecheriously.

>In Irish legend Aibell (sometimes Aoibheall (modern Irish spelling), also anglicised as Aeval) was the guardian spirit of the Dál gCais, the Dalcassians or Ó Bríen clan. She was the ruler of a sídhe in north Munster, and her dwelling place was Craig Liath, the grey rock, a hill overlooking the Shannon about two miles north of Killaloe.[1][2] Aibell also had a lover (called Dubhlainn Ua Artigan) and a magic harp (of which it was said "[w]hoever heard its music did not live long afterwards").

“Aibell. How about that?”

The Banshee looks at you, her eyes swimming slightly. Perhaps giving her a name was too much, and you worry slightly about her reading too far into it.

“Aibell...I remember Aibell. She’s long dead now. Thank you Jäger. However did you hear that name?”

You shrug. You honestly don’t know. It was just a random thing that popped into your head.

The two of you walk side by side, an odd pair if anyone could see her. Ahead of you, the billowing smoke of the command line reaches up into the sky. A massive armored train familiar to you sits at the end of the tracks, the huge engine whining with a low hum that buzzes in your teeth.

Glancing down to your message you received, you looked over the orders. It seemed Emmerich had requested your presence on the train. Your time on the vessel was still fresh, the strange carriage containing a watch you didn’t know what was the purpose of. You noticed the scarred woman leaning out of the engine room, waving you down. What was her name again, Sawyer?

“Jäger, good to see you survived. Emmerich is in the officers carriage waiting for you.”

You throw a wave at Sawyer, passing by the scarred woman who turns back into the carriage, her rippling muscles drenched in the heat of sweat from the engine. You climb up the rusted stairs, pulling yourself into the officer carriage behind the engine. A cloud of smoke greets you, hanging low over the heads of the officers seated around a map.

“Jäger! Man of the hour!” Emmerich rose from the leather chair he was sat in, a thick pipe on the arm rest that still smoldered. You knocked your boots, clasping your hand in an imperial salute.

“General Von Emmerich, it is good to see you again. I had heard you called for me.”

Emmerich laughs, clasping his hand on your shoulder.

“All in time Jäger. Take a seat and relax. I’m sure you’re quite tired from the assault. I had heard the trouble you stirred that got you sent in the first assault. More of a personal vendetta against your officer than what I would do but alas, what is done is done. Speaking of Hauptmann Edward, did he survive?”

“As a Wulfstruppen sir. He was mortally wounded in the trenches and alternative was death.”

Emmerich looked at you shocked.

“I’m sorry to hear it. Did you make the choice?”

You nodded once, trying not to be forlorn.

“I see. Well...I can’t fault you. The Hauptmann is a strong soldier and I hope he pulls through. At best he can lead a Wulfstruppen unit, at worst he’ll just become one of the dogs.”

Emmerich ran a hand through his hair, turning back to his chair and motioning you to a seat next to him.

“Don’t worry about your uniform soldier, wear it as a badge of honor and stain up the leather. Better men than you have done it and you shall follow.”

You look down at your uniform, tattered and stained by all matter of viscera and fetid mud. Carefully you dropped your into the chair, relishing in the soft feeling. Nixie sighed in your pocket lowly, clearly asleep happily.

“Have a smoke Jäger, maybe a drink. You can stop looking around like you’re about to be attacked. Good habit to have but you might offend my friends here.”

The men around you chuckled, as you realized you had been sizing up threats subconciously. You sighed, reaching out to the cigarettes on the table and lighting it off the candle in front of you. The harsh smoke was almost as bad as the gas you had marched into, but the head rush was worth it.

“Such important men Jäger, you’ve got quite an interest pulled your way. Mine not included.” Aibell whispered into your brain, her voice like velvet coated sex. You’d have to speak to her about this if it got out of hand.

“So Jäger, I’ll cut to the chase.” Emmerich looked at you through the cloud of pungent smoke that made his figure hazy.

“If you stay here and listen, you accept this assignment. I can promise you a small squad of your pick, no questions asked no matter who they are and whatever weaponry you request. You’ll be reassigned off the front for something I personally picked you for. It won’t be easy, but it is of great importance and a wonderful stepping stone for your career. If you refuse I don’t have an issue and can respect your wishes to stay here on the front. You’ll go back to Hauptmann’s unit, which will be under new leadership. I need an answer here and now unfortunately. Time is of quite the essence with this.”

Super hype for what you have in store for us. I know the other Anons are probably feeling the same.
I'd like to know why the other Anon chose to stay and listen. I chose it because I think Jager is destined for greater things. Now's probably the only chance he'll get to ascend the ranks and leave the field behind, probably to do some super soldier stuff or something.

You lean further into the seat, clasping your muddied rifle between your legs.

“I’ll stay Herr General. Take this as my acceptance I guess.”

The General nodded at you, a toothy grin crossing his face.

“Good lad, I knew I wasn’t wrong to pick you despite the misgivings of my compatriots.”

The officers around him shifted, unsure of how to respond to a clear barb in the presence of a lowly soldier.

“Well Jäger strap in, everything is changing for you after this. Operation Gottzunge is of vital importance to this war effort. I’m sure you’re acclimated to soul grenades and such? The usage of the human soul is a new development, only going on near fifty years now.”

You nodded, thinking back to the strange grenades and lamps that had dotted your foray into war. Volatile though they were their destructive capability was enormous. Perhaps all that hate and rage translated well into explosive capability.

“We didn’t just stumble upon this development, we worked for it. Top scientists studied for years and years and finally the breakthrough we needed happened in the form of something called a Banshee. They harvest these souls you see, use them to build power to kill more. At least as far as we can understand. So we captured one.”

You were quite unsure of this development, as was Aibell who leaned over your shoulder with intrigue, seemingly invisible to the other men in some cosmic irony.

“Any comments so far Jäger or are you keeping up?”

“Yes sir I do have some questions. Can I know anything of the process?”

Emmerich laughed, slapping you on the shoulder heartily.

“That’s more a question for the eggheads back home, I don’t understand the idea in the slightest. What I can tell you is there is no fucking reasoning with these things, and killing them is out of the question with any means we have. We lost a lot of goddamn men to their trickery and blades.”

You nod, the second question had planned to ask answered with the first.

“No further questions sir. Carry on.”

Emmerich nodded, taking a deep drag on his pipe that clouded up the room even more with a delicious scent of some sort of fruit and tobacco.

“Well we had the bitch good and kept, advanced our tech and power grid by a huge leap. Turns out she was rather important though, some sort of Queen or leader as best we understood. Just our luck with that one. Managed to keep it despite the attempts of other monsters of the ilk. However we received word a day ago that the facility went dark. I need you there to clean up, and find out whatever happened.”

You stayed silent, mulling over the information offered to you. Somehow this all felt like more than circumstance. You considered offering your knowledge on the Banshee beside you, idly playing with your hair but you decided against it.

“So that’s the story. I need you to act in a manner with discretion but unwavering faith to our country. As I said you can pick your squad and brief them in a manner of your choosing. The private armory is open to you as well. Any further questions?”

These places tend to have some weird fetish for mixing and matching weird fuck up things all in one place.

“Many sir. Are we to rescue survivors if there are any?”

Emmerich nodded once, then took a thoughtful puff of his pipe.

“Yes, many of the men there were leading their field. Their death would be a great blow to this country. Priority two is protection and extraction of all on site personnel.”

Satisfied you move to your next question. The Banshee beside you has now moved to lounging off the armchair, her body heat ice cold.

“Is there anything else in the facility I should be aware of as a threat?”

Emmerich laughed heartily, a full belly laugh.

“Eager to kill Jäger? Unfortunately those eggheads as important as they may be tend to meddle in things they ought not to. Last I heard the facility was working on weaponizing Trench Ghuls. If they have broken containment you’re in for a world of hurt. The only object here is to retrieve the Banshee or at least find out what happened to it. Beyond that fuck the rest of it other than the survivors.”

This was turning out to be a bit more complicated than just a simple look inside, and you were glad for the chance to pick your men.

“I’m quite curious about this Jäger, I’d ask you to bring me along but you don’t really get a choice since I’m bound to you. Hopefully by you.”

Aibell winked, her flirting becoming much more obvious. You weren’t quite sure how to take this in the slightest, and you shifted uncomfortably.

“Well then, when do I choose my men and set out?”

Emmerich looked to the men around him, grinning like a mad man.

“And you all doubted him, I knew I chose right. You’ll be picking the men from here, right after you finish questions of course. I’d like to see each of them, I’m curious in your decisions. Past that I’m loaning you my train and Sawyer as the conductor to get you there. She’ll be under your command and bound to follow orders.”

Emmerich winked deviously, reminding you of earlier conversations about siring more children for the war.

“The armory car is at the back, and stocked with whatever the hell you could even dream of.”

Protests from the officers made you glance to the side, a raucous group of voices protesting the loss of their method of transport.

“To even dream of a common-”

“-taking the train? Are we to-”

“-sending us out with the soldiers?!”

Emmerich shouted them down, his jovial tone quickly replaced with that of a hardened general.

“Damn straight we’re going out! This front is best led from right fucking here. Suck it up you pansy asses, you’re going soft.”

“What about the Banshee’s, what do they look like”

Though you personally knew the Banshee and their kind all too well it would be right to ask for sake of appearances. The other officers fell silent as Emmerich cleared his throat.

“Like some form of dead maiden. Dressed in white, carrying some gruesome trophy or weapon. By no means should you take them light Jäger. They seem to hunt those they see potential in, either to curb the chance it grows, or simply to force it to for a better harvest.”

You nodded, the General’s information in line with what you knew already. Despite your familiarity it was good to hear it from the words of your superior rather than an enemy.

“Finally sir, unrelated to this I want to know if the French facility I reported was in fact destroyed.”

Emmerich raised his eyebrow.

“This is the first time I’m hearing of it. If it has even you worried Jäger then I’ll check into the reports to make sure. Rest assured I’ll do what I can as I’m staying here on the lines.”

You nodded, though not completely satisfied with what had transpired still below the earth. Understanding the questions were over Emmerich motioned away the officers, who filed out of the door grumbling to themselves leaving you and the General alone. Emmerich stood to leave, grabbing his pipe and jacket.

Ditto, and if he asks we’ll explain

Do faeries have a negative reputation in this world?
>>
>>3290848
Yes, as shown by their first meeting. They lure men away to kill and eat them. However, most of the disdain is held by officers, as shown by the acceptance from Hauptmann's unit who still saw Fae as good luck charms.

Ah, bugger. Hopefully our skill and experience excuses our eccentricity

You turned to Emmerich, taking a breath to calm your nerves.

“General sir, one of my squadmates needs help. I come to you rather than a medic because this squad mate is rather unusual.”

Emmerich cocked his head at you, a slight smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

“Oh? Well out with her then Jäger.”

You winced at the her, aware that Emmerich seemed to let on that he knew a bit more than he was saying. Sighing as you crossed the point of no return you reached into your pocket, pulling out Nixie in the palm of your hand as she dozed happily.

Emmerich laughed, harder than you think anyone had ever laughed in your presence.

“A Fae? You take more after me every day Jäger. We can get her help don’t you worry. I know how useful the little creatures can be.”

You were taken aback at this development, fully expecting to be ordered to kill your friend and squadmate.

“You...you’ve been with Fae before sir?”

Emmerich laughed harder, nearly doubling over.

“Been with? My second wife was a Fae, and what a damn woman. You know they can do this thing where they’ll shrink while you’re in-”

You cut off the general, a rising redness to your cheeks. You didn’t need to be thinking of Nixie this way.

Emmerich carried on for some time, growing more and more graphic and saying something about...inflating them? You really didn’t need this.

“Alas I’m reminiscing, we need to get her some attention and pick your squadmates. Speaking of, did you have anyone in mind Jäger?”

Did you?

“Siegfried for sure. Though we might not be on the best of terms since I changed Hauptmann. If he retained his mind I want him as well. Nixie always comes along. Other than that I don’t know. Ivara?”

Emmerich looked at you, some unknown emotion on his face.

“Ivara? That’s a girls name. Which must make her a barren. First of all they aren’t permitted combat with regular soldiers. If that first rule wasn’t there, and I might make an exception for this case the Barren units are currently in a massive offensive. Unfortunately this is taking place behind lines, and I can’t really sign off on such a thing.”

Emmerich exhales another breath of acrid smoke.

“However, I could give you some men from other units if you’d be so inclined.”

“Much as I’m sure of the ones I picked, I’ll have to accept. I get a bad feeling about this mission.”

Emmerich nods, rubbing his face thoughtfully.

“Good not to be overconfident, but this shouldn’t be much more than a smash and grab. Tell you what, give me the little Fae and I’ll get her checked out by my personal doctor. You go meet up with the ones I picked for you. They’re two cars back.”

You reach into your pocket, cradling Nixie carefully. Reacting to your touch the little fairy wraps herself around your hand as best she can, unrelenting in her grip. Carefully you pry her off, handing her to Emmerich.

“Damn Jäger, picked a nice one. I’ll get her all fixed up, and send your choices along.”

You nod, turning away from the General as he does from you and heading towards the car. You cross through the first, which seems to be some sort of bar stocked with old and faded labels. Opening the second door you’re greeted by the sight of three rather rough looking Germans. The three rise to look at you, saluting already as if you had the rank to warrant it.

“Don’t worry about that, you’re all likely my superior.”

“Only in name junge eins. Only in name. Gertrude, Vizefeldwebel Barren Specialist. Usually we aren’t allowed to talk but I figure this warrants an exception.”

The massive woman is the furthest on the right, easily standing seven feet tall, wearing what looks to be some sort of combat pants and a form fitting leather top that wraps tightly around her pendulous hanging breasts. You can smell the acrid smoke coming off the blackened and stained great coat she wears, her face hidden by a gas mask that clings tightly to her head. As far as you knew Barren’s were forced to shave away their hair to remove their identity as women, but this one had only one side shaved, the other portion of her skull hidden away by jet black hair as oily and dark as the flames from her weapon.

The man next to her laughs, a deep gravelly tone that seems more a rumble than jubilation.

“Already trying to impress him Gerty? Think maybe you’ll finally get someone to touch you? Fucking Barrens.”

The man next to her is built more like a bear than a person, the uniform clinging tight to rippling muscles. More scars shows than skin, particularly the one that bisects his face.

“Otto, Otto Fischer. I’ll be your assault, boy.”

You pass over the remark meant to get a rise, earning only a chuckle from the man who looks like he could easily take Siegfried. The last of the three is a man that looks more like a scarecrow than anyone you have seen.

“Klaus, just Klaus. Happy to assist and get a chance to kill again.”

How do you respond to the new three?

“Jäger. I’m more comfortable with this shovel than most other weapons so I’ll be joining you at the front Otto. How experienced are you three?”

Gertrude steps forward first, saluting again for some reason.

“I’ve been on the front eleven years, and part of Emmerich’s personal retinue for four. Fourteen years of combat has given me a chance to burn almost every kind of living thing to cinders. Don’t you worry about my experience, I can promise you I’ll be fine. Besides, anything that gets to close gets to meet Sigurd.”

Gertrude reaches under her jacket, grasping something at the small of her back that pulls free with the sound of rasping leather. You can see the shine of metal as it comes into the light, what seems to be some sort of serrated bayonet far longer than any you have seen. More akin to a short sword, “Sigurd” seems to be well used and comfortable in her hand. With a flourish Gertrude dashes forward, planting the blade in the wood panelling next to your head. With a step back you find yourself under the gaze of the massive women standing over you and looking down through a tinted gas mask, who smells of wood smoke and leather oil. With a laugh she pulls herself away, covering you in wood chips as she turns and sheathes Sigurd.

“See? See what I said? Fucking Barrens. Still want a good fuck but no use in it. Gertrude here has lusted after everything that moved since she was first deployed and rightfully not a hand has touched her.”

Otto shakes his head with disgust, lighting up a cigarette.

“I can use any weapon we come across, and use it well. Been here just as long as Gertrude, unfortunately. Good to see someone else who enjoys it up close and personal though. I’d like to train with you before we get there Jäger, see what you’re made of.”

Otto seems to relish the thought, has hand reaching to the combat knife on his belt joyfully.

Before any further bladed threats, Klaus steps forward.

“I specialized in hunting Ghuls and other sorts of abominations. I was hand picked for this. Don’t need to say much more than that. You can judge for yourself.”

You nod, largely satisfied with the answer.

“I assume you all know as much as I do?”

The three of them nod, relaxing against their seats.

“Anything else for us Jäger?”

“Not much. There’ll be three others joining us soon. Men that I picked and fought with. I think we’ll make a good team. You all comfortable with fighting monsters then?”

Though Otto raises an eyebrow the three of them nod strongly.

“What about fighting with them. A Fae in fact.”

The newcomers are silent, glancing amongst each other.

“You fucking it? That why it’s coming?”

Gertrude speaks first, an edge in her voice that you could think is...jealousy? Otto must be telling the truth about her.

“No. She’s my friend, and she fights-”

Otto interrupts you before you can finish the thought.

“You wouldn’t be the first or last to fight with them. Just keep the tricky thing away from me or it gets gutted. I don’t trust them.”

Klaus remains silent, reading some book you can’t make out the title of. An uncomfortable silence sets over the area like a fog, and you clear your throat in an attempt to break it.

How do you spend your time waiting for the others?

You turn out of the car, heading to where ever it is Emmerich went. Now that you think about it this might be harder than you thought. You don’t quite know where his personal doctor is, or where Emmerich may be either. You decide to just wander the train, moving from car to car.

The first one you open is a massive armory, every wall lined with pristine and exotic weapons from all fronts of the war. It seems many were from other nations, whether ally or enemy. Wicked blades, and arcane firearms and stuffed on every inch of the wall, the rusted steel hidden by dull iron and stained wood.

“Such impersonal weapons, I much prefer your way of dealing with things Jäger.”

The soft coo of Aibell reaches your ears as you continue through the weapons carriage, a light tug grasping at the handle of your shovel.

“I keep thinking of when you killed me. I can only remember that and shattered memories of times past.”

She walks into your view with an uncanny grace, her flowing white dress pristine against the surroundings.

“Why is it I am bound to you? By what magic are you able to slay the Choir and grasp my soul so tightly to you. Why is it I can...feel again.” Her voice quivers, whether with fear or sadness.

“Walk with me Aibell, sure seems like the rest of this place is empty.”

Aibell laughs, a low ringing act that sets your spine tingling.

“Not that I really have to worry, only you can see me. But tell me Jäger, do you have any ideas about all this? I’m starved for answers, and no matter how much I search I can’t find them. Though I guess free thought is much better than mindless killing.”

Aibell pauses thoughtfully as you continue into another one of the living cars.

“Not that I mind killing. The feeling is...exquisite.”

Aibell seems to shudder in pleasure at that remark. You try to hide your discomfort. Did you kill because you liked it? Or because you had to. At this point it seemed quite natural to do. Passing by the beds as you think, you can see three of them are covered in personal effects. Otto, Klaus, and Gertrude seemed to have their things laid out. Part of you is curious, dangerously so.

Deciding it best not to get them to hate you already, you keep going, the the thought of Aibell doing it for you crosses your mind. Come to think of it, can you even touch her? She sure seems to enjoy touching you.

Spinning around you reach your arm out to the Banshee, reaching for her hand just to test the burning question. Unbeknownst to you she had crouched to look at something, and now all you felt was the smooth skin of her cheek under your palm. It was cold, like that of the long dead. Aibell looked up at you with a start, her eyes wide with concern and, tears?

“J-Jäger? You’re touching me? Why are you…”

Aibell trailed off, carefully reaching up to clasp your wrist so as to stop the sensation from leaving.

“I just wanted to know if I could touch you. You seem to be able to do it to me. I meant to grab your hand, I really did.”

Aibell looks up at you, deep blue eyes swimming through strands of black hair that cover her face. In the smallest of whispers you can hear her speak something.

“No one has ever touched me before…”

With that revelation striking her she vanished from your grasp and sight, a slight gust of wind buffeting you with her absence. You’d try not to dwell on the look in her eyes as you left the compartment, continuing further into the train, the mystery of her binding still unanswered.

The next door slides open easily, the scent of sterility and alcohol wrinkling your nose.

“Jäger? I figured you come to check on the Fae. Remarkable healing on these things, what I could do with an entire unit of them.”

Emmerich is sitting down at the side of a white sheeted bed, pipe smoke wreathing his face as he pored over maps surely depicting the front. A small lump is in the shadows of the bed, dancing lamp light playing over the features of the small Fae seemingly resting.

More like what he would do if he found himself alone with an entire unit of fae.

[1] Wake her and ask how she is
Just let her know whats going on and explain whats currently happening, so we don't risk her freaking out or reacting poorly when she wakes up.

Afterwards ask Das General about faes and his wife, etc.

Surely the fae wouldnhave long pregnancies? Fast gestation periods combined with extremely long lifespans would mean that the fae or half German/half fae offspring should have overrun the Germans and the rest of the world by now. Also +1 vote to lewd Nixie I guess.
>>
>>3309225
Well if fae have quick pregnancies I would say it’s Jägers duty to lewd her as frequently as possible so she can create more soldiers for the war effort. Plus she seems to like Jäger so I’m sure she wouldn’t mind the lewd at all, hell she’s probably looking forward to it.

Aibell is bound to the shovel, she lives in it since we killed her with it. Why it happened though we don't know.

Due to the government mandated extermination of Fae they've used magic to raise their birth rate in an effort to stave off extinction. With the lack of glades and safe woodlands most die in infancy.

Vote is to let her rest and speak to Emmerich

You look at her sleeping form and decide it best to let her rest, allowing her healing factor to take work. Emmerich looks back to his book, motioning you over.

“I assume you met the others I picked for you, you’ll have a good crew. Especially with this little tart here. I’ll have you know she bit my hand, said I didn’t smell like you.”

Emmerich chuckles and points at the light bandage on his palm.

You can’t help but smile at the tenacity of the little Fae.

“Emmerich you had mentioned something about a wife that was a Fae? What’s a wife?”

Emmerich looks at you confused, before his expression softens.

“I should have known. Something really only the old aristocracy holds onto and only a shadow of what it once was. Long before the war became what it was there was no such things as breeding houses. Women weren’t a commodity to determine the nations strength, nor did we have slaving bands going out to capture them.”

Emmerich puffed on his pipe thoughtfully.

“Men found a woman they loved and the two dedicated themselves to each other in the eyes of god and the courts. It was a holy union, meant to last forever. It wasn’t very feasible though when our youth died by the millions, and so it was abolished or forgotten. Doesn’t really matter which, it’s long dead. Us old ones though, we tried to hang on to the semblance of normalcy it brought, and really did believe in love. So we’d take a wife. Of course, we’re still mandated to the breeding houses like everyone else, but it was something more than just breeding with them.”

Emmerich sighed wistfully, looking off through the window in the train car.

“Any interjections before I continue Jäger?”
>>
>>3312066
Is there a way to not have her go to the breeding house or the barren unit? Sounds like she is special right?
>>
>>3312089

Vote seems to be to ask questions on his wife. Closed and updating.
>>
“What was she like sir, and if I can ask why was she exempt? That seems detrimental to the war effort.”

Emmerich laughed heartily, and for a moment you worried he would wake Nixie. Soft lamp light covered the area, his features well lined with sadness as he looked down at the book again.

“She was exempt because I hid her, Fae aren’t citizens anyways and she would have been killed. What was she like though? God, like an angel Jäger. Beautiful, strong, caring. She had this laugh that could cure a man of shell shock like it had never happened. I loved her dearly, despite her being nearly six hundred years my senior. She was everything a woman should have aspired to be. We had seven kids, though of course they all got sent to the state run plants.”

Emmerich sighed deeply, wiping his eyes.

“Fae mixes aren’t special, no great life span, no great power. Just another human with eyes maybe a bit too shiny. Not that that matters, all sorts of mutations have risen up in this squalor. So the state took them. I tried to send them to the best of course, but you could never be sure. Whether they ended up in the capital or a fume town like yours I couldn’t guess.”

You remained quiet while he told his story, some unknown feeling welling up inside you and clamping around your throat. Emmerich seemed to feel it as well, taking a heavy inhale from his pipe to regain the steadiness of his voice.

“That’s what killed her in the end. Though the lack of forests surely helped. It was heartbreak Jäger. Seven kids and not a one she could mother and love. So she killed herself. Used my service pistol and scattered her beautiful face about the ceiling. I promised myself not to remarry after that…”

Emmerich fell silent, not actually reading the book now but just staring at the pages as if they held an answer for his despair.

What did you do?

You step forward, placing your hand on Emmerich’s shoulder in an effort to console the grizzled veteran. The man stands stiff as a board for a moment, before looking up to you from his seat.

“Thanks Jäger, I won’t remove your hand for touching a superior.”

The general chuckled at his remark, clearly forced in an effort to drag himself out from the pit he had crawled into from retelling the story.

“Sir if I may ask? Is Nixie going to be a danger to herself then if this war isn’t ended?”

Emmerich looked at you with a coy smile, laughing genuinely.

“Planning on bedding her? Then be damn sure she doesn’t have kids. The war doesn’t just end son, it’s a danger to you, to her, to all of us. What would we even do if it ended? Can you imagine a Germany of old if we won? No. We’re changed forever, and for the worse I fear. This is no place for kids or family. Go run to the countryside or mountains, find somewhere still green.”

The general smiled again, this time mischievously.

“Once you’re done that is. Millions of men before you have tried to end the war and now we fight over their bones. If you really think you can do it then by all means, prepare yourself to join them.”

Emmerich rose, moving your hand off him as he now stood over you.

“A word of advice though? They’re tight, you won’t be able to pull out.”

Your face reddened at his remark, images of Nixie dancing through your mind in more and more compromising positions.

“Save that for later though, for now, your unit should be here soon so finish up whatever you planned to do with the others.”

With a turn of the heel Emmerich walked away, whistling to himself. Despite the image he put up, the droop in his shoulders betrayed his current mood.

Though you had meant to speak with Klaus about his general distance with the rest of the unit and with you but it could wait for awhile. Emmerich was an absolute trove of knowledge and stories that could only help to know later. You looked down at Nixie’s sleeping form, who had seemingly shifted into her full size figure in her sleep. Perhaps she was dreaming and changed size in the waking world just as she did in her rest. Her breathing came soft and shallow, light hitches in her chest that forced the blanket to bounce over the sizeable bust. You patted her on the head softly, gently tussling her hair. She shivered for a moment, then exhaled happily. You cared for her dearly, a close friend through all this that had saved each others lives time and time over. Content you left, wondering what she had been dreaming about as you followed Emmerich. You missed her eyes following you as you left the room, a dopey smile on her face.

Emmerich seemed surprised that you followed him, his book under one arm as he thoughtfully puffed at his pipe as he moved between cars.

“Jäger? Wishing for more sad stories or perhaps some a bit more fitting for a red blooded man such as ourselves.”

Emmerich winked at you, grinning from ear to ear.

>>
>>3313480
Have you beaten both NecroVision games yet?

Just how much do we as a child raised to be a soldier know about the world and the reality of how things are, or were in the world, domestically and abroad?

What was childhood like growing up? I assuming Prussian style education, but we grew up interacting with the world and others how, exactly? How did we meet people like Ivara, and how come we didn't make any friends?
>>
>>3313489
I got half way through the first, then very much regretted the difficulty I chose because it became tedium for every step. I plan on going back soon though, I really enjoyed what I played.

We don't know much other than the rah rah Germany and that the war has cost us our former glory to be reclaimed through bloody sacrifice in hopes to end the war. Domestically and abroad we're very limited besides the state of the war map.

Childhood was terrible living in a fume town, ghuls, poorly built housing that the siege cannon would knock over with recoil. Education is a more militaristic Prussian focused less on actual thought and higher education but more for making a willing soldier. Interaction with the world was limited other than stories made by passing units and traders. Jager made most of his friends with the town guards, though Ivara was one of the few exceptions. The others either perished growing up or weren't very close.
>>
>>3313502
How often if ever were there field trips, or leaving the fume towns? Is there no air tight and sterile areas to raise young?
>>
>>3313581
Negative on both.
>>
>>3313589
That would raise child mortality massively. Not very efficient.

How often if at all any do people still raise children? What of the traders and caravans? Do they just become traders because the choose to or are they some strange outcast subset of society? Are we simply a state raised child from a breeding house, and there are still people who live some small semblance of normality outside fume towns or out in the wilds or mountains?
>>
>>3313594
In the wilds yes, though they're rather rare and referred to as ferals by general populace by too much time amongst the old magjcs. People raising children is only for what's left of high society. Trader is a job by choice, though some are outcasts such as deserters or people from other nations. We are in fact just a state raised child from a breeding home.

On the topic of mortality, the idea behind it is that with the nation focused solely on breeding and fighting the strong will survive to be better soldiers, making the deaths worthwhile though yes it does hurt the effort. Germany is more for quality than the nation's like France.
>>
>>3313611
Have they cured trench foot? Or found effective preventive measures for it?
>>
>>3313624
Preventative measures being decent boots and medical treatment yes.
>>
>>3313611
Higher ups meaning rank or nobility or both?
>>
>>3314330
Aristocratic and beauracratic more than high ranking. High ranking would only count the very very high generals.
>>
>>3317216
You’re running today, right?
>>
>>3318259
That is the plan. I'll be home in about 3 hours.
>>
Looking for some input. I'm considering introducing a custom combat system I've been working on to try to add that sense of constant chance of death combat has. How do you guys feel about combat currently and would you be interested in a trial run?
>>
>>3318794
Uh, if everything goes wrong can we ignore what happened if we accept the trial run?

Also is it the averages of shit?
>>
>>3318807
I'm planning on implementing a fatigue and action system. Say in a turn you can do three actions, I.e shoot, aim, move. You could do those three, rolling like Dark Heresy system of degrees of success. Staying within turn actions has no penalty, however going past in the event you really need to do something will gain you a point of fatigue which lowers your rolls. I also plan on implementing a sort of skill level system if accepted since I already have a character sheet for Jager.
>>
>>3318817
Sure, let's try a trial run of this.
>>
Have we grabbed any fancy new gear for the mission yet? We should also see if nixie can shrink objects as well, than we could justify getting her some gear.
>>
>>3318817
I can kinda dig the skill level system, but Dark fucking Heresy is so god damn bad with its roll under but you start at only 30 for some skills.
>>
>>3318830
Don't worry I don't plan on being as anally ravaging as Dark Heresy. If you have ideas for a dice system different from the standard 3d100 or best of d20 rolls that most use I'm open to talk it over.
>>
>>3318828
Not yet. That's soon. Right now we're still talking with everyone.
>>
As an aside, a main character will never die from a poor roll. Critically injured perhaps but not dead. I much prefer your narrative choices to be the death of something or ruin of chances rather than an outside force. It makes it all the sweeter.
>>
>>3318837
I really don't, I prefer either Bo3 or some other shite of that nature unless I'm in a tabletop setting ya know?
>>
>>3318846

>>
>>3318849
Hmm I could make a Bo3 d100 stem to my liking
>>
>>3318921
Mods apply if any based on the actions, But that seems to change stuff ya know? What brought on the change to combat?
>>
>>3318931
I really enjoy writing everything strictly narrative and choice, but I worry the lack of interactivity will become dull. If you feel content with it as it is we can stay
>>
>>3318938
I dig the narratice and choices to be honest but I'm just one anon here from the start

“What do you mean red blood man?”

Emmerich glances at you with a sly smile.

“Fae are damn animals in bed Jäger. But I’ll let you figure that all out. Wouldn’t want to spoil all the fun with an old man’s memories.”

You nod, trying to hide the rising heat in your face.

“What’s with all weapons in the armory, I don’t recognize most of them.”

Emmerich looks forward wistfully as he seems lost in memories.

“I’ve served in every front of this war, some are mementos, some gifts. I’ve got prototypes for field testing. You didn’t even get to the tailors car. All manner of gear, uniforms and other knick knacks. Most generals keep libraries, I keep weapons and armor. You can take your pick Jäger. Your whole squad can, we need you as best equipped as we can possibly have.”

Nodding, you try to hide the excitement of being able to have the run of such top of the line gear.

“Speaking of, your squad should be here at any moment. You could walk and talk more if you like but if you want to speak to them then you best get to the front car.”

You:

The fact we ran into that rot/gut worm fucking lab, and uh... The zombies and the strange new gas

>>
>>3319137
Was it 100% confirmed that? Huh, Never mind then. I thought it was a mixture of german gas AND the lab shit leaking free
>>
>>3319137
It was probably more of a hindrance for the Germans since they had to kill the French twice. And then their own men who died. And then anyone who got killed by the zombonies.

>>3319139
No the gas was strictly us. The lab however was french made. So we can definitely mention that.

“I best go greet them but before I go, I’d like to inform you about something we found in the lines. The french had some sort of bioweapon development going on, weaponizing rot worms in a parasitic form. They seemed to cause a massive increase in aggression and mutation. Some even used the bodies as hosts for fully grown worms. It was...horrific.”

The General’s expression darkened, his pipe wreathing his face in a cloud of pungent smoke that lazily drifted towards the cracked window.

“That’s...unsettling. Our experimentation with Trench Ghuls and others of the old world is at least humane to our soldiers. You’re sure of this? Are you and Nixie clean from this infection?”

Though you still can’t shake the fear that the two of you missed something, you nod quickly.

“Our medic died down there to get us out. I know exactly the hell we witnessed and I can confirm with nary a doubt that we’re safe. If we aren’t, well I’d ask that someone burn that place to ashes after they put a round in my head.”

Emmerich nodded, scribbling something in the margins of his book.

“Thank you for the information. Much as I trust our officers on the ground this is too much a chance for someone to chase a promotion for clearing up such a mess. I’ll oversee it personally. With that Jäger, best of luck to you in Operation Gottzunge. I’ll try to stay in touch by radio but the damn things are spotty at best with our wires getting shelled so often.”

Emmerich put his hand forward and you shook it firmly, surprised when he pulled you into a hug.

“I have a good feeling about you Dietrich. I feel I picked the right protege. Now the others can get off my damn ass for having put it off for so long.”

The General laughed a deep belly laugh, opening the side door in the carriage and exiting into the thick smog that had rolled over the battlefield from the artillery positions.

You walked through the train, arriving at the officers carriage that you had first entered a few hours before when summoned by Emmerich. Standing at the entrance across from you two figures stood straight as a steel rod, clearly concerned with being called to such a high class position. Siegfried was the first to notice you, his face briefly flashing a smile before turning to a frown.

“Look who it is Edward, Dietrich himself. Perhaps he can tell you his reasoning for your current state.”

Hauptmann stands to the right of Siegfried, his uniform in tatters where rippling muscles had shredded the stitching. You could see even in his human state he was slavering, eyes near crazed as he looked you up and down.

But you are too good of a person, too good of a soldier to simply let die when we had an alternative. I did what I did because your are an excellent Stormtrooper. I would have let you rest if I had felt your continued existence were vital to Germany’s survival and eventual victory in this war. If there is anyone who can utilize the strengths of a Wulfstruppen, it’s you. If there is anyone who can still retain there humanity, their sanity, while being a Lycan then it’s you, Hauptmann. I’m sorry for forcing you into this, and if you wish I had made the other choice, to allow you to die, we will have that chance soon enough.

“Hauptmann...Edward. I know I had no right to decide your fate and allow you to become a Wulfstruppen. But-”

Edward cuts you off with a guttural scream, advancing at you quickly. You step back rapidly, finding only a few paces before you’ve put your back to the wood paneling.

“Damn straight you didn’t have a right! I trusted you Jäger to not let me become a fucking THING!”

Spittle flies from his lips, so hot it sizzles as it hits the carpet. You really just how precarious the knife edge you stand on is as you see Siegfried standing back, intent on letting this play out. Deep down you can’t say you blame him.

“You are too good of a person and soldier to let die Hauptmann. We had a way to keep you in the war, keep you one of the most excellent Sturmtruppen this army can face. If you weren’t so damned important to this war then I’d have gladly let you rest. You however are vital to this survival. To ending this so no one else has to do what you do.”

You try to keep your voice even, sizing up the man as he approaches. He seems taller than before, visibly more built. Even in his current state he can’t help but hunch as he approaches in a vaguely predatory fashion. His left arm flies out like a shot from an EGewehr and you move your head only just in time as his clenched fist smashes through the panelling and into the steel of the train. With a roar Hauptmann lifts you by the uniform and into the air, until your head reaches the ceiling of the car.

“Speak faster and make your last words good Dietrich. I’ll do for you what you didn’t do for me.”

“Hauptmann think! If there is anyone who can overcome such a curse it’s you! Anyone who can retain their sanity and humanity is you! If you want a way out I can offer you that.”

Hauptmann’s nose curls up at what you say, throwing you with all his might across the car. Your back smashes one of the wooden chairs to splinters, your breath knocked from you as you roll across the floor until finally stopping with some force on the other wall. Siegfried watches, torn between the loyalty of his friend and his superior who he clearly holds great respect for.

What do you do?

You shakily rise to a half crouched position, unclasping your shovel and letting it hang loose at your side. You can feel a warmth rise through your body, the aches temporarily pushed from your mind by some magic of Aibell. Whether she knows what is happening or not, she seems quite eager to help whenever given the chance.

“Hauptmann! Do you really want to die now, or after you’ve helped win this eternal fucking war? Both of those can be arranged right fucking now. I’m sure even in your current state which I once again apologize for you want to see victory. To march through the streets of Paris as an all conquering army.”

Edward visibly stiffens for a moment, as if torn between two sides. For a brief moment you see the flicker of rationality in his eyes as the old man surfaces for a moment.

“I think you estimate my strength and fortitude far higher than it is Jäger. For what it’s worth, I’m sorry too.”

Edward looses a howl that shakes the windows in their wooden frames, a few bursting into tiny stars of glass that shower the interior. You tense, reading yourself for the rapidly approaching Wulfstruppen who is transforming mid leap. Dodging to the side you just barely avoid the eight inches of razor sharp claw and muscle that carve through the door where your head had been a moment before. Mid stride you swing the serrations of the shovel over his flank, carving deep into the sinew and tendon that ripples over his body. Gore spatters the cream carpet, staining the fabric in a deep crimson that quickly soaks to the floorboards underneath.

Your former Hauptmann roars in rage, spittle and blood flying through the air as he twists his entire body into a wild swing that slices through the air and opens your face. Had you not stepped back your head would be split into four sections, rather than the deep cuts that scar you now.

You realize that if you don’t fight like mad you likely won’t see more than a few minutes more of life. Hauptmann advances on you, growling in a deep bass that rumbles against your bones. He throws a jab at you far faster than you could ever hope to react. Aibell comes to your aid though, your arms rising with the shovel to place the blade in front of oncoming swing. The edge you care for so carefully is sharper than any other bladed weapon you have come across, and it easily splits his hand in two as the momentum of his hit drives you backwards.

Edward howls in pain, pulling his arm back and spraying arterial blood over the front of your uniform. You can hear the distinct sound of Aibell in the back of your mind licking her lips. Capitalizing on your opening you rush forward, driving the tip of the shovel into Edward’s collarbone.

Were he a normal man this would have cut his shoulder from his body, but all you succeed in doing is cracking through the stiffened bone. You can feel the blade hitch against the pressure, stuck in his chest. Hauptmann pushes you off him as he falls to his knees, even the force of just one arm sending you onto your back. He grasps the shovel by the handle and pulling it free, his good hand tensing as if to try and shatter it. Much to his surprise the weapon doesn’t as much as creak, strengthened by the unholy Banshee.

With a dismissive grunt Hauptmann tosses the weapon far out of your reach.

The door behind you leading to the other parts of the train is kicked open, the smell of singed leather and oil assaulting your nostrils. Edward looks over you, his jaw hung open and dripping slaver as his nostrils wrinkle from the stench. Taking your chance you pull your boot knife, diving forward and bowling over the Wulfstruppen.

The bayonet against his throat is far less imposing than your shovel, but will carve flesh from bone all the same. He looks up at you, a mixture of surprise and hatred in his yellow eyes. Heavy footfalls approach from behind you, and for a moment you mistake them for Siegfried. More a length of pipe than the barrel of a weapon comes into view at the edge of your vision, the heavy weapon resting on your shoulder as drops of steaming hot oil land on the lycan under you.

“Move and I burn this fucking place to a crisp. You’ve got some fucking nerve to tear up General Emmerich’s personal car in such a manner. The both of you.”

The heavy voice of Gertrude is commanding, though not near as much as the bubbling flamer that she holds against your shoulder to brace it. Despite the path of the nozzle pointed squarely at Edward you are all too aware what a gout of that thing would do to you in such close proximity.

Slowly, wracked with pain, the Hauptmann raises his hands in a submissive gesture. Already the one you split in twain has healed again, only dried blood and a light pink scar a sign that anything had happened.

“Don’t think you’re free of this either Jäger.”

Your name was spat from her mouth more than said, her voice dripping contempt just as her flamer did.

“First a Fae, now a fucking Wulfstruppen, and whatever that fucking thing is over there.”

The barrel of the Flamer gestures to your shovel, laying inert on the ground. Ramifications of her observation aside, you stand shakily. Your body aches without the presence of Aibell to soothe your muscles.

Wincing as you stand you:

Despite the death battle that had sprawled across the car, you respect the man. More than that, you can’t shake the guilt of what you turned him into. Offering your hand Hauptmann seems more surprised than you are at the gesture. He looks up at you for a moment, the hair slowly receding back into his body as he shifts back to the weathered man you are more familiar with.

He clasps his hand in yours, rising to his feet as Gertrude lowers the still dripping weapon in her hands. Siegfried steps forward, laying a hand on your shoulder.

“I hope you understand Jäger. I don’t agree with what you did. I respect it however. Edward needed to hear it from you just as much as you needed to hear it from yourself. Even if you nearly killed each other.”

The Hauptmann nods at you, trying to straighten his bedraggled uniform.

“I agree with what you said. I just...I can’t accept it so easily. Not that new part of me at least. For what it’s worth Jäger, I think you made the right call even if a part of me may hate you for it. I want to see this damnable conflict through. Dealing with all this comes after we have Paris and Moscow under our bootheel.”

Releasing your hand the officer nods at you, that familiar spark back in his eyes for now at least. Gertrude still seems on edge, keeping herself at an angle that would allow her to douse the two of you at a moments notice, though she continues to glance to your discarded shovel as you pick it up from the floor and snap it back into your leather sheath.

Siegfried is the first to break the silence, clearing his throat as he slings his shotgun. You still marvel at how the stack of muscle shaped like a man dwarfs a weapon even that size. Out of the corner of your eye you see Gertrude sizing him up hungrily.

“So why’d you call us here Jäger, I’ll have you know our unit captured a French General and most of his command structure that were in the ammunition dump. Mathilda and I painted the fucking walls with those excuses for soldiers and kept them at gunpoint.”

Gertrude stews at the words, an edge in her voice as she speaks.

“Mathilda? Do all of you fuck Fae?”

Siegfried laughs at her, a rumbling bellow that is full of mirth. He pats his shotgun slung over his back, the barrel of the weapon singed with soot and flash heated blood that spattered over it.

“This is Mathilda. Best damn girl in the world.”

Gertrude laughs uneasily, trying to reign herself in.

You can’t help but chuckle, the laugh infectious as Siegfried, Hauptmann, and yourself laugh at the joke. It was common for soldiers to name implements in the field, though Siegfried had an odd taste in names. Allowing the joke to lift the tension, you finally speak up.

“Emmerich has recruited me for an Operation. He calls it Gottzunge. It’s...well rather complicated, but he told me to pick a unit of men I trust. The two of you were at the forefront of my mind.”
>>
Siegfried raises his hand in mock shock.

“Jäger, next thing I know you’ll be confessing. Little old me?”

The two of you laugh again, and it feels good. You missed him, and part of you was worried for his safety however stupid that may be. Of all the soldiers in the Imperial German Army, Siegfried was nigh unkillable and a force of nature unto himself.

Hauptmann looks around the room, seemingly searching for someone.

“Dok?”

“Dok is dead. Nixie split from the group to try to cover our flank during the assault. She seemed to have stumbled on some sort of complex the French had to make the rot worms into a parasitic bio-weapon. We got stuck inside, surrounded and in a bad spot. He, detonated his bandoleer so Nixie and I could escape.”

Hauptmann nods once, turning away from you to hide the shimmer that comes over his eyes. From the camaraderie you had seen between the two it was likely they had served together since their graduation. Even with the fatigue of Reichbrecher laying over you like a blanket the loss of the Doktor was still fresh.

“Dumb bastard always had a thing for theatrics. At least he went out like the hero he always was. That place is burning right now isn’t it? It better be Jäger or I’ll go tear it apart by the fucking boards and feed and Frenchman I find to their little pets.”

The anger in Edward’s voice was tinged with a deep sorrow, the man clearly only hanging onto the edge of coping.

“Emmerich himself is over seeing the destruction. Too volatile a situation for him to leave it to someone else.”

Hauptmann wiped his eyes on his sleeve, smearing dirt and blood over his face. He turned back to you and nodded.

“Never a lucky day for the Sturmtruppen. If it wasn’t Dok it was the other boys we lost in the assault. I could hang that fucking officer for putting us as the first over the lines. I probably will too.”

Hauptmann settled into one of the remaining unbroken chairs in the room, his shoulders drooping.

“Brief me later Jäger. I’m onboard with whatever it is. I can’t lead a unit in my state anyways so someone else is taking the men.”

Siegfried nodded, finally relaxing in the carriage far too rich for the common soldier. Gertrude sat across from him, her flamer set between her legs.

“Save the briefing for later Jäger. These men are tired and so are you. Not everyday you go toe to toe with a lycan and come out with a bayonet against its throat. No offense.”

She raises her hand to Edward, who simply waves her down. The fight was gone from the man, replaced with a deep loneliness and despair.

You head through the train to the infirmary. Passing Otto and Klaus who are playing some sort of card game while wagering with bullets. You stop in the armory briefly, unbuckling your stained and tattered gear and leaving it on a rack to come back to. For now, it seems you can at least breathe without a chance of someone stabbing you between the ribs. You think of leaving the shovel on your hip as you usually do but decide instead to leave it as well. You briefly think of leaving the shovel here, almost forgetting the Banshee that resides within that saved your life.

“Don’t leave little old me here Jäger. I much prefer being on your side. It gets lonely otherwise. Sharpen the blade up later, even now it’s still a hell of an edge.”

You smile at the words in your head, the soft tone that sets you at ease. She’s right, always better to have her with you than without at this point. Even bisecting a Wulfstruppen’s arm barely dulled the blade.

Stepping out of the carriage, now significantly lighter and smelling slightly better without the gore stained equipment you make your way to the infirmary. The uniform you wear is still foul, unchanged for days and soaked with all manner of viscera, blood, and ichor. You can feel the stitching coming apart in some areas, constant battle having done a number on it. How long has it been since you lasted rested? Days? Weeks? Time seems to have lost meaning to you when living in a constant state of adrenal induced combat.

The sharp smell of antiseptic reaches your nose, the dim warmth of lanterns bathing your tired body as you step into the dimmed carriage. Nixie is laying on her side, staring at you with open eyes.

“Hello Jäger. You look like you’ve been through hell, well, more hell than usual.”

You wave her off in a friendly manner, stepping further into the car.

You push Nixie aside, listening to her soft giggle as you crawl into the bed.

“You know the other beds are unoccupied right? Emmerich’s doctor said it was so boring in here never having anyone to treat. I’m sure he’d be happy to see another patient whenever he gets back.”

You grin at her, the Fae currently in her full size only inches from your face. You realize how tired you are, a deep ache permeating your body that seems to wrap around your bones. The shovel on your side digs into your hip as you roll over, unbuckling the weapon and setting it onto the chair Emmerich had been in. A brief flash of skin shows you that Nixie had been wearing nothing under the blanket. Her body looks like porcelain, smooth and milky white.

“You might want to get in my state Dietrich, the doctor will have a conniption if you get the sheets dirty.”

Whatever effect her body had on you, already you felt like you could jump into the hells of the war again. Doctor’s be damned the woman next to you was the real medicine you needed.

“So that was good. Beyond good in fact. I better get the same treatment sometime soon you womanizer. Keeping me along just as a witness.”

Aibell’s voice doesn’t have a hint of malice in it. Rather she seems to be bathing in the afterglow that permeates the room. Nixie doesn’t even blink an eye at her, rather accepting of the situation.

Now that you think of it:

[1] Ask Aibell about the method of her binding

[2] Save it, relax in what might be one of the few quiet moments in your life
>>
>>3319836
[1] Ask Aibell about the method of her binding
We still got a mission to complete and a war to win
>>
>>3319830
I would still off her for to relive us of QM bullying but I have plans.... Plans that invoke her, and not in ways many of you would like .....Hehehehehe.

My auto correct spelling tried to change Hehehehehe as Scheherazade, this is some weird sign.

>>3319835
Goddamit man put on some spoilers, you ruined my fun :p
>>
>>3319832
Only by the PYRO, guess she was female underneath that mask huh?

No not really, he's here along for the ride... Riding shotgun..... Ryding diiiirty!
>>
>>3319835
Speaking of critiques, I'm always open to constructive criticism if you guys have it. I live to improve my writing.
>>
Fuck I killed the activity in my own quest.
>>
>>3319836
[1] Ask Aibell about the method of her binding
Also ask if she wants any of her sisters to keep her company in the shovel or whatever kind of cool knife we pickup from the armory.
>>
Two votes for it. I'm updating. You guys still alive here?
>>
>>3319836
>write in
Ask her if she can jump into a bayonet.

Ask Pixie if she can See Abbygirl?
>>
>>3319875
Pixie can see her, that was in the lewd. It was also in our first encounter with Aibell way back when we first saw rotworms.
>>
>>3319859
It doesn’t help being on the 8th page either lol.
>>
>>3319840
>>3319861
Guys, leaving it a bit subjective or unknown can give more flexibility down the line.

>>3319831
>>3319878
That music is terrible, and my neighbors dog started howling to it since I had speakers on.
>>
>>3319881
That's fair, but some of the anons who were here vanished after the lewds.

Oh christ I fucking killed them
>>
>>3319882
Don't you dare ever slander requiem again. The dog knows a good song when it hears it.
>>
“Aibell...how are you even here? How are you bound like this.”

Aibell ponders your question, languidly leaning back in the chair.

“I’m unsure of it myself, best I can tell you removed my souls in some manner. You see we don’t just kill people, the Banshee’s that is. We harvest them. Whatever that weapon you had is, that revolver, it doesn’t just harvest those souls in obliterates them.”

You take this in, slightly confused by what the woman says to you.

“I guess some explanation is needed. Your weapon is from the line of Hellsing, a group we long thought dead and ended from the likes of Dracula. Perhaps the monster hunters of old are still out there, waging their unending crusade as guardians against the old magics. Perhaps you stumbled onto it by design, or some misbegotten joke from the gods. That weapon, the sole purpose of it is to destroy the supernatural with incredibly efficiency. In a war such as this it is worth more than entire nations. Through it, you removed every defense I had, leaving me open and vulnerable. By that end I should just be left to drift into the ether and reform, but something about you stopped that and bound me.”

She ponders this thought, smoothing her dress as some sort of nervous tic.

“That is the part that baffles me. My sisters and I are untouchable by all rights. We stand only below death herself. Thousands of years spent mourning the dead has given us unfettered access to the string that bind life. When your war took hold, our songs couldn’t ferry enough of you, and the decision as made that the only recourse was simply to wipe you away. Humanity has become a stain upon the earth, sowing only destruction and madness.”

We dead, and I fucked the dog.
>>
>>3319884
Nah they must be fapping or something. Although if you really wanna be a successful lewds writer, apparently it has to be bizarre, like gay T. rex vs rappers or fish monster on woman like that movie.
>>
>>3319889
>Shape of Water
Christ the cultural out pour of that was almost as bad as Fifty Shades. I write what I like, which is monster girls and T E N D E R N E S S

Besides the new hotness is traps and I ain't gay man
>>
>>3319889
For a moment I thought you were gonna say Tokaar here.....
>>
>>3319890
Traps aren't gay! Just ask Phil!
>>
>>3319889
Reading you post again, I realize you are not joking, or being hyperbolic.

I do not know what I feel but what I feel can only be described as a mixture that I know both despair and mild interest.
>>
>>3319887
>Well if you kill all of us then you won’t get what nixie got. Plus, haven’t you Banshees needlessly prolonged this war by killing or harvesting men who could potentially end it? On all sides? This war should have ended long ago. If your sisters do decide to kill humanity, could they at least start with the French and British?
>>
>>3319890
Just finished reading the pastebin, its not bad. I don't think this will kill the quest, but I will ask.... Can Abby feel that? Can she feel what we felt or maybe even what Nixie felt? Maybe both?
>>
>>3319902
It has been confirmed that Jäger can touch Aibell, just as she can touch him.
>>
>>3319900
>could they at least start with the French and British?
Ha!
>>
>>3319902
Negative. Abby may get her own scene one day.
It warms my heart to see her get an affectionate nickname
>>
>>3319906
I only make up nicknames because I am lazy or felt like typing less per sentence
.
Also Abbygirl is more us/me name headpatting her.
>>
>>3319900
I very much enjoy you're always here with a well thought write-in. You, >>3319830 and >>3319902 write-in a lot. Gives me much to work with in conversation. Thanks
>>
>>3319906
Just wait till you read the name I have saved for a certain move in that future scene.
>>
>>3319917
Its fun, and we certainly like how you try to constantly communicate with the players.
>>
Well guys, I'm gonna let this post sit because I realize it's 4:30am and I still work in the morning. I plan on running tomorrow night as well, around the same time. I hope you all enjoyed the session, even though half the posters died post smut. Dirty bastards just used me for Nixie lewds

As always around for comments, questions, and the like for a bit. Thanks for the constant interaction and posts through the day, you guys are the greatest.

>>

Plz let me know when, else I might sleep through most of it again. In how many hours or general time. Doesn't have to be exact.
>>
>>3319925
Later QM, might wanna do a new thread since people have to scroll through 8 to find yours.
>>
>>3319931
Obviously Nixie browses infinity /pol/. Wait that’s probably Aibell.
>>
>>3319932
Like >>3319933 said I'm going to do a new thread. Time wise, 10:30PM EST, so about seventeen and a half hours.

>>
>>3319947
I do use that to find this thread, but a lot of people might not use it.
>>
>>3319951
Lets not ruin their sense of newfound joy and wonder when they find it then.
>>
I sincerely hope people got tired and I didn't kill half my reader base tonight.

>>
>>3319917
The fact you take our write ins and actually give them life is awesome for me. I'm shit at words. Blunt as a arrow
>>
>>3319887
>listen

I mean she is bound too us so she gets our soul I think when we die.
>>
>>3320383
We found it in an abandoned trench
>>3320384
You give your write ins too little credit.
>>
>>3320554
Running tonight?
That lewdbin was great
>>
>>3320634
Yes running tonight roughly same time in a new thread.
>>
We won't be running as long as last night though. I'm quite tired already and with only nine days left to finish my business proposal and go before the county I'm incredibly stressed.
>>
>>3320690
Good luck QM!
