This quest takes place in the DC Universe with characteristics mainly pulled from the animated TV series and films, but we've also just crossed over into the Mortal Kombat game series!
You are Rena, aka Star Striker! She's the daughter of the previous protagonist, and right now she's caught in the middle of a gore-filled martial arts tournament to save her realm! Not the hero's debut she was expecting...
-10/15 Minute voting period after each post, I will now specify how many votes are allowed per post.
-Some actions (typically combat choices against non-generic enemies and certain social situations) will require 3 D100 rolls, using the best of the 3 rolls for said action.
-Critical successes/failures are 100/1

Previously: Perspectives have switched, and you are once again taking control of Reno, the big man himself!

This the coolest shit ever! It's like you're in the middle of one of those classic 1970s martial arts movies that you love!

No wife nagging at you, no super-turds breathing down your neck, and no responsibility! Just you, your fists, and their faces!

… Well, there's the whole protecting the realm thing, but who cares?! You can save day once your fun's over.

You kind of feel bad for that last guy, though. You didn't expect Waylon to get in the spirit so quickly... The big bastard almost made you puke watching him! Then again, you don't sign up for this without running the risk of a gruesome death, so you don't feel TOO bad...

Though you did notice Raiden looked kind of pissed. What's his problem? He recommended offing these dudes in the first place to secure our victory... Unless... Oh, whoops.

Okay, after you tear General Tsao or whatever his name was a new one, you have a team meeting to make sure you don't accidentally kill anymore of the Thunder God's dudes.

You look up, sizing up the competition while you manage to hold back an arrogant scoff. What is wrong with these people? First Kano, now this guy? Who just has their core components exposed like that?! Whatever, it'll be the last mistake he ever makes. You aren't even going to waste time putting on the belt.

“So are you the bootleg version of Kano or what?” You taunt, cracking the stiffness out of your neck.

“Arrogant bastard, I am second in command of the Red Dragon!” He retorts, his tiny fu manchu stache twitching on his upper lip in anger.

“Red Dragon? You know, Kano runs the BLACK Dragon, and I bet if I connect the dots right... Yeah, you're literally the Chinese knock-off.”

His eyes are bugging out of his skull with how angry your words make him, and he lashes out by charging that exposed core of his into hands as he claps them together in your direction!

The clap makes quite the gust of wind at you, causing several nearby audience members to fly against back walls or into furniture. You, on the other hand, don't even lose a bit of your footing.

You clench your right fist in front of you, grinning as it crackles with your blue electric energy.

“I guess we're done talking then? Watch closely, I'll show you what a real Thunder God looks like!”

A: Get the crowd warmed up with one of your signature knee strikes! It's the best introduction to your movelist!

B: Dance around this guy with some bolt blinks, everyone'll get a kick out of him panicking!

C: Let's really embarrass this guy! See if you can rob whatever's powering him up right out of his body!

D: Y'know, it might look cooler if you let this guy get the first few hits in. It'll really show just how weak this guy is.

Hsu Hao looks like he's about to pop a blood vessel, and you've only just decided on your opening routine!

You fan a hand towards you, urging him to give it his best shot to try and beat you.

Surprisingly, he would rather beat the ground! One of his fists glows red as he raises it to the sky and punches right through the stone floor!

You quirk an eyebrow, knowing all too well what this attack is. It's a projectile of some kind that'll travel beneath the both of you before it shoots up on your location. Real original.

Humoring him, you act like you don't know what's coming and taunt him some more. The audience will love that.

“What? Throwing a tantrum, are we? Does someone need a nap?” You chuckle, knowing that you've successfully feigned your ignorance once his rage filled expression twists into a smile.

“THE ONLY GOING TO SLEEP IS YOU, BASTARD!” He shouts back, and as he does so you feel the ground right under your feet get warmer. Yeah, called it...

You wait for the precise moment the surface starts to crack from the pressure below before dodging with one of your signature abilities, the area you once stood in engulfed with fiery napalm shooting out of the ground as you disappear in the blink of an eye, seemingly obliterated by the shot.

The crowd reacts in a mix of laughter or audible disappointment, while the awaiting fighters just look at eachother as if to ask if the fight really ended that quickly.

“Ha! What an idiot, talking all that trash only to die in an instant! What a dissappointment.” Hsu Hao snickers, adjusting his military cap as he starts to stand.

By this time, you've already re-emerged, inciting a soft gasp from the crowd as you return with a flash of static energy.

You stand at Hsu's side, clasping a friendly hand on his shoulder.

“Didja gettem?” You ask with a sly grin.

You can see the color leave the cyborg's face as his jaw drops for a moment. If you were taking this fight seriously, you would've taken this opportune moment of fear and hesitation to snap his neck or something. There's no fun in that though, right?

He's quick to turn on a heel and throw a powerful strike to where your head should be, and to give him credit he has excellent form in giving the blow... It's really too bad the guy has no chance of keeping up with you.

“Uh-uh! I'm over here now!” You tease, flicking the opposite side of his head and inciting him to react with another swift punch that only manages to strike the air where you used to be.

“Ah! Almost had me!” You cackle, now appearing directly in front of him again.

“Come on, you're a commander! Strategize or something! Predict where I'll be!” You mock him with your advice, wearing his mental stability down with every word as he lashes out thrusting a boot at where your chest should be...

… But once again, you appear at the opposite side, having a giggle to yourself as his back is to you now.

“Oh, this is fun. You're like a dog chasing a car.”

He turns, his chest glowing with crimson energy as he spreads his arms away from his chest.

Oh? A chest laser? You should've figured he'd have that. Alright, how could you make a spectacle of this...

A: Hold your hand out and try to directly absorb the blast!

B: Bat it away into one of the spectator balconies. They wanted bloodshed, right? The sick bastards are gonna get it then.

C: Test your might with a electrical blast of your own. You want to crush his soul before you crush his head.

D: See if you can clog that laser canon with your fist! It'd be pretty funny if it blasts backwards into his own body.

Hsu Hao's blasts his beam, but it falls short of everyone's expectations as you snuff out the attack immediately with a weak jolt of your own!

“DRAW!” You call out with a phony southern accent, making a gun out of your index finger and thumb as you send a thin stream of lightning directly into the molten hot beam.

It wasn't much of a shot, but you seriously underestimated how weak this guy was. What you fired was able to split the beam and cause the particles to split outward harmlessly, the bolt causing a puff of smoke and fire to erupt from where the canon had fired previously on his chest.

He recoils in pain, screaming coarsely as he bends over and holds onto himself. A thick ooze of oil and blood starts to seep through the smoking hole you created, splattering on the ground in sickening splash.

You start to casually walk over, looking him over for a second and forcing him to stand straight as you shove your left hand into the mechanical wound.

He chokes out a yelp as you pull him up to eye level, his mouth trembling as his speech is stuck between fear and agony.

He tries to speak, but the guy is in shock. Nothing's coming out right, but even if you could understand what he's blabbering about it'd probably make you cringe with how pathetic it is.

“Reno.”

You look over at Shang Tsung, arching an eyebrow as he addresses you. When you first met this dude after the whole mess at Cheshire's, he was some geezer. The guy had more liver spots and wrinkles than you could count, but now he looks almost younger than you. When Kano hyped this rat bastard up you wanted to kill him then and there just to prove a point, but seeing the proof of his soul stealing now... It might have to be one of those rare moments where you show an ounce of respect...

“Yeah?” You ask, annoyance quite clear in your voice. Okay, maybe it's more like a half ounce of respect, but at least you're trying!

“Finish him.”

Weird, this is coming off as a polite suggestion. Moments before he was shouting it like a command to your little princess and Waylon. Maybe he needs to pull you aside for a discussion? Who knows.

You look at this poor excuse of a “commander” with contempt. Seriously, this was fun, but you wanted to start this off with a REAL fight.

A: Forward Back Forward Right-Punch.

B: Down Back Down Forward Throw

C: Down Down Down Up+Left-Punch

D: Toss this guy aside. He's honestly too sad to finish off.

You watch as your dad raises the cyborg high into the air, still using the fist sunk into his wound to do so.

He then slams him face first into the ground behind him, a meaty splash of skin and blood splattering around his head as the cap comes off his head. Your father then grabs him by one of his ankles and drags him through the air once more only to slam him against the stone floor once more, his head becoming a busted up and bloodied mess.

The defeated fighter holds out his hands in a weak attempt to usher your father away, but he only offers something for him to grab onto.

In a final motion, your father hurls him high overhead, his body rag-dolling into the sky as he screams in fear, his body only ascending higher and higher while your father grins up at him.

“... So he's just making him fall to his death? I mean, the guy was kind of working the crowd earlier. It's a bit of a weak ending to... A...”

Johnny's critique is cut short by everyone in earshot leering him into silence, yourself included.

“... Sorry?” He responds with a shrug and a annoyed expression, but it soon vanishes as a blinding blue light emerges from the stage!

It catches everyone's attention, only for them to immediately shield their eyes from the intensity of the light. What is your father doing? It's almost like he's exploding with electricity as a intense field of lightning strobes off of him.

His mouth is open with a cackle, and you can even see static jolts bounce between his teeth.

Suddenly there's another bright surge of light, and from where your father stands a pillar-like beam of raw energy and electric currents shoot upward directly at the falling Hsu Hao!

The beam swallows him whole, and all you can do is watch as you see the silhouette of him start to disintegrate in the crackling and roaring thunder-beam...

And like lightning itself, the spectacle is gone in a flash. The only evidence of it having occurred is a scorched ring around your father, as well as some of his hair sticking up from the intense static that surrounds him.

“Let that be a lesson to you all.” Your dad addresses the crowd, his voice gleaming with pride.

He points a thumb at his smirking face, resuming his speech.

“If you don't put up a good fight and waste my time, I'll make sure that you no longer take up precious space on this Earth. I want only the strongest! I want--”

There's a deafening bang, and your dad's head is flung back as he stumbles backwards... Oh god. He's been shot!

ou start looking around frantically for whoever did it, your heart racing as you desperately seek out whoever did this to him!

You aren't alone, as others search as well. Some have already fixed their sights on who it is, but you can't see through the forest of fighters gathered near him.

“WHO DARES DISRUPT THE TOURNAMENT?!” Shang Tsung roars, slamming his fists against the arms of his throne as he rises.

You want to know as well but... Oh, duh! Just fly!

Lifting off the ground enough to see into the crowd, you gasp as you recognize one of the people currently gathering all the attention, but not the individual in a red mask quite literally holding the smoking gun.

“The Elite.” Aunt Black answers, stepping ahead of her associate.

“It's okay, we wuz just muckin' about. Reno's an old mate of his, inn'at right?” She asks, looking over at him.

“You were right, the asshole hasn't changed at all...” The man in the crimson mask responds with a gravely tone spoken through what sounds like a electronic filter.

“OWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!”

Attention is once again brought towards your dad, his eyes welling up in tears as he grits his teeth in pain.

“OW-OWWW-OWWW!!! MY HEAD!!! THE BULLET'S STUCK IN MY FRIGGIN' FOREHEAD!!! AAAAAGHHHHH!!!!” He audibly whines.

Several laugh at his expense, including your friends and Raiden's Shaolin pupils. You thought it would be impossible for someone like your dad to embarrass you in public, but right now your cheeks are burning with humiliation.

With a few brave sniffles, he pries the flattened lead from his durable flesh, whimpering as he feels the prominent dent it made in his skull.

“*Sniff*... Who did that?!” Your dad tries to regain his ferocity as he hurriedly wipes tears away with his forearm.

“They are the ones who disrupted your victory speech. They claim to be friends of yours, Reno...” Shangs Tsung answers with a calmer, but impatient tone as he gestures towards them.

Your dad squints at the crowd, picking them out from the others and quirking a brow.
“Lady Black?! What's she doing... Holy shit!” Your dad suddenly exclaims, getting a big grin on his face.

“Is that Red X? Wow! I can't believe he's-- AAAAAAAAAGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!”

Your dad's words are caught off by another gunshot, putting him into another child-like fit of pain and anger.

You're confused as to who the masked guy shooting your dad is. He acts like he knows the guy, but your dad never told you about anyone like this.

Thankfully, Damien is able to fill in some blanks as he grumbles.

“Dammit... I can't believe she dragged Jason here.”

“Jason? You know him?” Kung Lao asks moving over to Damien's side as he looks in the direction of masked gunman in amusement.

“I would like to offer my thanks for ending that arrogant display earlier—No offense, Rena.”

“None taken.” You simply comment, joining the two in their observation.

“So my dad met this guy when he was known as Red X?”

“Mhhrr, Something like that. I remember he was running a solo operation in some training academy, but that was before Bruce knew he was alive.” Damien explains, narrowing his eyes.

“He goes by Red Hood now, though. He was the Robin before Tim and I, but it didn't end well for him. He was kidnapped, tortured, and killed by the Joker... Sort of like your dad.”

You gulp. Your dad told you once, and only once, about the day his life changed. It still makes your blood run cold thinking about how something so awful happened to him at such a young age, and by someone so terrifying. What's worse is when you start to realize that if Batman had shown up a few seconds sooner and saved him, you wouldn't exist...

“Is... Is he like my dad too?” You nervously ask Damien.

“What? No! He got thrown into the Lazarus pit, which is weird considering I never saw him. You think I would've noticed the naked teenager running around covered in third degree burns, but I must've been meditating or something.” He answers gruffly.

“Anyway, I guess I should say hello and figure out if he's in this ridiculous tournament.

Damien starts to move through the gathering of combatants, making his way towards the Red Hood as Raiden takes his place among you and Kung Lao.

“Troubled souls afflicted by the same demon.” He comments with wisdom filled words.

“Yet they are not allies in the face of it. Is your father so thirsty for bloodshed that he would forgo this friendship?”

“I... I don't know Raiden. Ever since this all started I feel more and more lost in my own family.” You admit with a slump of your shoulders.

Raiden stands the stoically for another second or so before addressing you again.

“If you have a moment, seek me out with this round of the tournament is complete.” He requests, politely bowing before departing from the both of you.

“... Want my advice? Don't. It's probably an invitation to meditate.” Kung Lao advises with a prod of his elbow into your ribs, managing to get a small laugh to rise out of your throat.

You're left thinking it over when something catches your eye; Shang Tsung and your dad are... Talking? Not like one is berating the other, but like it's two associates are having a discussion. What's that about?

With all this craziness going on in your life, maybe some quiet time with someone like Raiden is just what you need right now.

The tournament progresses after a short while, and the bloodshed only continued. One fight had Wonder Woman finish her opponent off by snapping their neck like a twig, which Damien was quick to inform you that it was a habit of hers. Woah.

Then you got to see Johnny Cage hit someone in the crotch so hard that their eyes exploded! What's with this guy and the groin shots?!

Superboy even had to go up and fight, but he was the only break in gruesome deaths as he spared his opponent, it was refreshing to see...

… Until Liu Kang went up right after and ripped someone's throat out. Is that something they teach you at the Shaolin temple? How come the Okaaran Warlords omitted these things from their teachings?

Well... What's important that none of your friends were hurt, and that the tournament was over for the day. Some of the Earthrealm fighters met up with each other except for Johnny, who chased some poor military woman around like a dog. While they regrouped and discussed everything at hand, you decided to slip away and seek out Raiden.

The island itself was breathtaking.. You took a path leading through a collection of somewhat intimidating housing structures to a large garden. Following the trail lead you through a stone tunnel and into the decorative plaza of flora and statues, all of which were the likes you had never seen. To the right of the path was an oasis, lined with vibrant plants and overgrowth that couldn't possibly be from this world. Not only that, but the sculptures and statues raised among the water and ground were.. Creatures. At least, that's what they looked like to you. Some were dragons, but then there was the odd one that stood out, such as the titan with four arms looming over the pathway itself.

You were lost in the beauty of this garden so much that you almost felt your skeleton leap out of your skin in surprise when Raiden spoke.

“Rena.”

After nearly going into cardiac arrest, you turn with a hand over your chest as you look at the tranquil Thunder God with eyes wide as saucers.

“Thank you for seeking me out. I have some concerns.”

“About my dad...?” You ask, fixing your posture.

“Both you and your father. I sense a disturbance in you both, though they are different in nature.” He explains, joining you on path overlooking the pond.

“I'm... Disturbed? I don't feel it...” You think out loud, looking down at your chest.

“Rena, what are your honest feelings towards your father? Take everything into account and find the answers that lie deep within you.” He requests.

Wow... Heavy question, and you have to answer a god too? Liu Kang and Kung Lao trained with this guy and you're getting stressed out by just one question from him.

“... Humph.” You breathe, trying to gather your thoughts.

“My dad, as much as I love him... Is a total manchild. He's the manchild who raised me, and it might come as a surprise but I owe a lot to him for raising me right... But he's an overgrown kid. Normally that's not a problem, but this time...”

You sniffle, looking up at Raiden.

“I'm worried. Like, really worried. He's acting out in a way that makes me think he's got a death wish... I mean, look where we are! It's like he's two sides of the same coin and I just want him to stay on the one that's my dad and not... Not what was on the stage earlier.”

“He is plagued by a internal conflict. He duality could be one of a sinister nature or...”

“Or...?” You press, worried about what Raiden might say.

“... Insecurity.” He bluntly states, arching a brow.

“There is certainly a gratification he is yearning for, but what this might be is troubling.”

“What could it be?” You ask.

“We will only know with time... That said, your inner struggle is one that can be resolved with patience. There is a great anger slumbering in you. I witness it in your kombat.”

“Oh. Yeah, see, Tamaraneans fight with their--”

“Emotion, yes. This is something more.” He interrupts. Rude.

“It's not a part of your genetics, but your soul. You must learn to wield it, not lose yourself to it.”

“Oh... I do get angry pretty badly, yeah. I always had tantrums and stuff.” You admit with a small frown.

Raiden puts a comforting hand on your shoulder, your gaze meeting his again.

“The White Lotus would offer its hand in friendship, if you would like to train your inner self.”

“... Do I have to shave my head like the other monks?” You ask, and the question makes the god show a genuine smile.

“It may clear a path to your mind.” He jests, getting your to turn that frown upside-down.

“I must return to the others. Thank you for hearing me, princess of Tamaran.” He expresses his gratitude with a humble bow.

“No problem, Raiden!... Oh!” You quickly correct yourself with a bow of your own.

And with that, Raiden vanishes with one of his split second teleports, as if his body was scanned away.

You put a hand over your chest, feeling your heartbeat. A great rage inside you...? Did you use it on your dad after he fought Namur? You were really angry then...

“Aww, she's a princess as well!”

The voice pierces the tranquil air like a knife, its feminine yet ravenous tone cutting away at your previous thoughts.

“Who's there?!” You ask, darting your head around in search of the intruder.

“Oh, don't be afraid... I'm a princess too! Let's be friends...”

A wicked cackle comes from the darkness of the tunnel you traveled through previously, and once you locate the voice you take a defensive stance towards it.

“Show yourself!” You call out, getting fed up with the mystery act.

All you can make out in the darkness is the shine of yellow eyes, the pupils narrow like a predatory cat's as they stare at you hungrily.

“I'm not sure if you want that, little girl...” It threatens, followed by the sound of a blade being drawn.

“I'm not a little girl! Quit hiding in the shadows and face me!” You snap back at the lurking woman.

She slowly abides, taking her sweet time to strut out of the darkness. She's dressed in leather armor and pink decorative wear. Most of her is, anyway...
Her cleavage is nestled within a hard leather carapace, but a small one that also shows off her toned navel area. Below that is a horned skull buckle securing what appears to be a loin cloth, causing you to now notice how low the crotch of her pants sink under her midriff, the menacing codpiece protecting against any real exposure. Aside from that, her armored exterior padding was all colored a dark shade of pink, including a half-mask that stopped below her eyes. Above that was a wild weave of medium length black hair, kept in a somewhat shaggy and messy fashion.

This person... Dressed way cuter than you expected them to.

“Here I am...” She hungrily purred, spinning a pair of sais past her hips as she drew them.

“Are you ready to play with me?” She seductively asks. The only emotion you can pick up on is the predatory nature of those burning eyes, and they see you as a meal.

A: “Uhm... Literally or metaphorically? Because if you wanted to spar there are less threatening ways to ask.”

B: “You know it's against the rules to kill a kombatant outside of tournament matches, right? You're gonna get in trouble!”

You make a T with your hands.

“... Okay time out. Did you make that outfit yourself? Because it is sooo adorable and cool at the same time!”

“... What?” She asks, her face frozen by the nature of that question.

“Yeah! Like, you have this whole assassin thing going, but the colors are too cute and stylish! It's also really sexy in all the right places, but functional outside of a few vulnerable areas... I really like it!”

“... I'm going to kill you now.” She bluntly states, and with a split-second motion of her hand she tosses one of the sais at you!

Reacting quickly, you make your suit form armor on your wrist and deflect the blade, giving your attacker a sour look.

“Heyyyy! Are you seriously going to try and kill me after I said nice things about your clothes?! What kind of princess are you?!”

“One who will carve and devour anything that stands between me and my throne!” She snarls, and you're able to quickly see the sai she had thrown reappear in a glitter of pink mist.

She rushes at you like a rabid beast, her slashing and stabbing of the claws methodical yet ruthless as she tries to maim you!

You're able to duck and parry every single strike of those needle-like daggers, but you're seriously overwhelmed by her onslaught! You'll have to find a way out of this pressure fast!

A: See if you can push her off you by making a barrier out of your star energy!

B: Try and grab her wrists to stop her! You don't want to fight her just yet!

C: Next time you block, aim your eyes at her and fire a quick beam!

D: See if you can find a gap and dash backward off the ground and away from her!

Okay, you're starting to really lose your patience here! You need her to back off, now!

Concentrating on an area near your solar plexus, you focus your anger and channel your energy towards it, hopefully enough to at least stop her!

“Darn it...! BACK OFF!” You powerfully shout, and with those words a concussive burning sphere of star energy erupts from you!

The violent woman is unable to withstand the force of your barrier, as she is thrown back by the rapidly expanding shield and can just barely catch herself with a back flip before landing harshly on the ground.

Parts of her clothes are singed, but she doesn't seem too affected by the defensive move as she simply returns to her fighting stance while your barrier begins to fade.

You still stand there with your chest slightly puffed up and your arms thrust at your sides, staring her down with frustration contorting your features.

“Look, I don't want to fight, and I definitely don't want to be in your way for your throne! Put the blades away and calm down, otherwise I might hurt you!” You sternly warn her.

“Aww... Feigning ignorance, or blissfully unaware of what's happening behind the scenes?” She taunts, spinning her blades once again.

“I have no reason to trust you, and you shouldn't kid yourself in thinking you can trust me. This will end with your head or your back!”

A: “What if I gave you a reason to trust me?

B: “How about the fact that I don't even know what you're talking about! What am I doing to stop you from your birth rite?!”

C: “I don't even know who you are! How could I go after your throne anyway?”

D: Okay, maybe you should just put her down now. She might not be the listening type.

You lower your guard, wanting to solve this peacefully.

“What if I gave you a reason to trust me?”

“... Such as?” She asks, her aggressive stance easing somewhat.

“Um... Well...” You think aloud. Shoot, you didn't really have anything in mind...

“Uhhh... Name your terms! I have nothing to lose if it means peace.”

“... Hmph.” She hums with amusement, beginning to saunter over to you with her arms relaxed at her sides.

“I want you to tell me if I'm pretty. I'll hold this right under your chin...”

She delicately presses one of the sai's tips below your jaw, making you wince uncomfortably.

“And If I see hesitation... Anything that looks like a telling sign of falsehood... I'll make your head a lollipop for me to snack on.”

She raises her free hand and hooks two fingers into her mask.

“Feast your eyes...” she says with a sultry tone before yanking it down.

Well... It's not what you expected, to say the least. She had normal, full lips and flesh surrounding the area, but... She has sharped than steel teeth exposed where part of a normal person's cheek should be. It's not a open wound, either. It's a distinct row embedded into her mouth, and even crazier is the the rest of her carnivorous pearly-whites revealed as she opens her mouth.

“Hahhh...” She hisses, making sure you know the extent of the shape her mouth is in.

A: “Everything but your mouth is really pretty. I'm sooo sorry I don't want to be mean but I don't want to lie either...”

B: “... What's problem here? I see a pretty face. If you're insecure about your mouth, you can rest assured that I've seen worse in space.”

C: “Aww, I don't know why but those chompers are actually the cutest thing. Can I touch them?”

You can't help but show a small smile after seeing the rest of her face.

“Aww, I don't know why but those chompers are actually the cutest thing. Can I touch them?”

What normal flesh remains on her cheeks become flush with color as she suddenly recoils from you, her eyes wide with shock.

“ABSOLUTELY NOT! AUGHH!”

Her sharp fangs grit in annoyance as she glares ahead at you.

“I sought faith, but your putrid genuine kindness is disgusting... I wretch at your innocence.”

“... Jeez. I just said your monster teeth looked cute. I didn't know you were so sensitive.” You respond with a grumpy frown.

“Enough! It is... Painfully clear that a mind like yours would not want any part in controlling a domain like Outworld.” She confirms to herself, pulling her mask back up as she turns away to think.

“... Wait, You're from Outworld? Oh gosh, does everyone there have teeth like that? I am so-so-so-so sorry if I came off as racist just now! I really didn't know--”

“LEARN TO BE SILENT!” She snaps at you, pointing a sai at you threateningly and making you yelp with surprise.

“... Your words do not offend me, they just make me physically ill. However, the more ignorance you reveal in regards to my future kingdom, the more I believe your lack of involvement with what your father and that cursed fool Shang Tsung are doing.”

Wait, your dad and the creepy sorcerer? What does she know about them?

“Um, what do you know about my dad, princess...?” You trail off, hinting at a request for her name.

She hesitates for a moment, then continues her slightly aggressive speech.

“Mileena, but you and everyone else will soon address me as Mileena Khan. I've been spying on the sorcerer for some time, and only recently did your father begin to make himself known to the snake. They're conspiring together, but for what I don't know... I just overheard him requesting my kingdom being granted to you for a birthday present, and I would not have it!”

“... Dad wants to give me a kingdom? Aww, that's so sweet of him... And wrong to do, but I think the thought is very kind.” You sheepishly admit.

“But this is the first time I've heard about any of this. Did he mention anything else?”

Mileena nods.

“The name of my 'father'... Shao Khan.”

“... Oh my god, how many Khans are there?!” You complain impatiently.

“Are you all related?! Like, was this family drama the whole time?! If my dad made you guys settle it with this tournament I will be really nettled!”

“It is a title, you fool!” Mileena snaps back, pointing a finger in your face.

“And you better get used to hearing it, because soon I will be Mileena Khan!”

You roll your eyes. This Khan system somehow manages to be even more over the top than your dad's crazy hierarchy.

“But your father and that pathetic leech Shang Tsung are trying to resurrect him... They will use a sacred liquid from your realm's legends, but that is only to restore the vessel.” She continues, turning away.

“The body is nothing without the soul, yet there is no way for them to arrive in the Netherrealm where it is kept... I must stop them before they find a way.”

She quickly turns, pointing a sai at you and speaking with a commanding tone.

“And you WILL help me!”

A: “Uhh... Sure, okay! I don't see why I shouldn't!”

B: “Yeah, no. I'm not your royal subject, and I don't think we can be considered friends yet, so there's no way I'm doing you any favors.”

C: “How am I supposed to help, exactly?”

D: “Okay, forget all that for now. You REALLY need to learn some manners and grace like a proper princess.”

Your shoulders raise as you display a shrugged, unsure of what Mileena really wants from you.

“How am I supposed to help, exactly?”

“Spy on him, of course.” She says as if it were obvious, her tone much calmer albeit somewhat condescending.

“Find him, and find out how far along this little coup of theirs is coming along. It should be easy with him being your father. Perhaps daddy's precious girl would like to study how to usurp a ruler, hmm?”

You arch an eyebrow at her. Mileena sure can switch between a snarling monster and a playful pussycat very easily. It makes you concerned for her mental state, but you don't want to alienate the girl. After all, it's probably hard for her to make friends with a face like that.

“I guess... But how is this supposed to work? You're not going to try and kill my dad are you? Because I don't know how that'll work out for you.”

“The fratricide will be on my end, don't fret.” Mileena reassures, sheathing her sword with a tilt of her hips.

“Other than that, I'll find you. It will be a day or so until the tournament is taken to Outworld, so try not to die within that time.”

“Wait, aren't you in the tournament?” You ask.

“I'm afraid I'm an interloper, actually. Kotal Khan may have died by another's hand, but my war for the throne is far from over. His allies still live among Shang Tsung, while others kneel to Doom Khan in Outworld!” She snarls behind her mask, the sheer thought of these conditions sending a fit of rage through her.

“It sickens me seeing those who think they have true dominion over all while my heart still beats! It's only a matter of time before I devour theirs in front of them!”

Your frown only grows. Gosh, she has the right to be mad over not getting to be queen, but she really needs to get a life! Does this poor thing even have friends? Does she do anything fun? What's her deal, anyway?

A: “Alright... Well, I'm going to look for my dad I guess.”

B: “So are you basically saying that I'm the only one helping you?”

C: “Mileena, do you have fun at all? You're really unhinged.”

D: “How was it taken to begin with? I really need some backstory on this.”

“How was it taken to begin with? I really need some backstory on this.”

Now Mileena is rolling her eyes!

“How did you wind up here without knowing none of what's happened?”

“I don't even have a good answer for that.” You humbly admit, and surprisingly she takes the answer very well... At least, from what little of her face you can see.

“Alright... The tournament before this one, my father was killed by Liu Kang and Outworld's ties to yours were severed. However, while you remained at peace the struggle for power in my home ushered in a great war among many of our races. I was rightfully ruler at the start, but then another by the name of Kotal used his Osh-Tekk ways to rally against me. I was usurped and imprisoned, but soon freed by what little allies I had left. That was only the start, however...”

You listen intently, Mileena's eyelids lowering as she recalls more events.

“The sorcerer Shang Tsung was not pleased with the new rule, and neither was the Netherrealm's herald Quan Chi. Seeing a common desire in change, they formed a deadly alliance and began their scheming to overthrow Kotal Khan. Still in his good graces, Shang Tsung put up an act of being Kotal's right-hand, but behind the scenes he and Quan Chi had been searching for where the Elder Gods may have sent my father's soul. Eventually, they believed to have found it in a 'pocket realm' as they called it. A thin world between worlds, neither truly existing, yet present. It was called the Phantomrealm, and within it were at least two powerful souls, one of which possibly belonging to my father. At the time, it was believed they sought out to restore Outworld to its former rule by resurrecting Shao Khan, but the alliance turned out to be a fragile one. Quan Chi knew where the soul of Shao Khan had been this entire time; in the hands of his master Shinnok. He had told Shang Tsung to influence Kotal to invade this Phantomrealm, but his true plan was to create enough chaos in Outworld that none would be able to stop the return of Shinnok! But what had occurred did not go according to anyone's plan...”

“That's when the Doomsday guy showed up and started killing everybody, right?” You ask, and she confirms with a solemn nod.

“It wasn't just Kotal and several of his associates, but he had torn his way through the absorbed Edenian kingdom, and killed the ones who had saved me among many others... Oh, and my sister died there too as well, but let's not linger on trash.” Mileena dismisses, disturbing you, but not enough to want to interrupt her.

“This rampage did not last long beyond that, as the Eldergods finally intervened and shackled the monster. His desires were heard, his wish to unite the realms so he may destroy them both, so... Here we are.”

“... What about the other soul? You said there were two powerful ones.” You remind her, and she lets out a soft chuckle.

“Oh, so that one didn't reach out to you? I know he saw your fight.” She vaguely teases.

“Reach out to me? Why would he? I think it's obvious I don't know him.” You remark.

“Strange...” Mileena hums, tapping a finger against her masked chin.

“I recall him being similar to you... Orange flesh, walked with cosmic flames in his hands, burning eyes, he even fought physically the same way you have. Is this not ringing any bells?”

You feel your heart stop for a moment. There was... There was a Tamaranean in that realm with Doomsday, and he's here!

“Hold on Mileena... There's no way that can be right! I'm the only Tamaranean on Earth who's at the tournament! Everyone else should be out in the Vega System somewhere!”

“Tamaraneans? Is that what you're called?” Mileena rhetorically asks, clearly amused by your reaction.

“Well, I doubt it could be anything else. Though they weren't quite like you... He had red hair and is flames were green. Why are you different?”

“Umm... My mom's a mutant when it comes to Tamaranean genes. Her hair's black and she has the purple fire stuff, but my hair is from my dad.” You explain, your lips still curled downward as you try to figure out who this mysterious Tamaranean could be.

“Mileena, where'd you see this guy last? Normally I don't like to throw my title around like I own the place, but as his princess I really ought to speak to him.”

“Hmph... Don't lose sight of your true goals here, little girl.” Mileena purrs, turning away in a slow strut as she makes her way back to the tunnel she first arrived in.

“I am not your people's keeper, that's your job, as well as finding out what your father is up to. I'll be seeing you again soon...”

As those words slink through her monstrous mouth, a glittering pink aura of magic takes hold of her shape, and she vanishes.

Okay, so... It's up in the air if you two are friends or not, but at least no one got hurt!

What's stressing you out more is figuring out what your father is doing and who that Tamaranean is! It's going to take some time to find either of them, so you;ll just have to commit to one or the other with the time you have left in the day!

Time to find your dad and get that spying done! It's not like the Tamaranean is going anywhere, right?

You make your way back to the tournament square, where some fighters are still congregated and conversing with one another.

You can see your dad still talking with Shang Tsung at the center of the stage, and you're careful to take a stealthy position behind a set of trimmed hedges located along the courtyard walls.

Peeking around the corner, you watch to see if they start moving anywhere, and after a short while Shang Tsung offers a humble motion of his hand towards a door under the stone structure that raises his throne.

As they both enter the doorway, you're quick to hurry after them, trying to remain as quiet as possible while you crack the door open slightly and peer inside.

It's a staircase descending in a spiral, and you can still hear their footsteps and voices as they travel further and further down. Yeah, there's definitely something going on behind the scenes if this guy has a creepy basement.

You start to make your way down the steps cautiously, hoping that these stairs only lead one way as your father's voice falls fainter and fainter from your ears.

Finally reaching the bottom, you feel a sense of defeat.

As it turns out, the stairs didn't lead to a singular place... It led to what looked like a dungeon, complete with the decorations of cobwebs, stones, and dry bones that once belonged to prisoners scattered everywhere. You can also clearly see more halls branching off among walls lined with primitive cells.

Still trying to remain stealthy, you take a quiet step forward...

… And crush a discarded human rib, the bone cracking loudly under your boot.

Your body jolts, your eyes darting around to see if anyone was there to hear you.

The grimace spread across your face soon relaxes as you breathe a sigh of relief, continuing to walk forward as you cautiously scope out the area ahead of you.

Whoever had to suffer in these foul depths were surely long gone by now. It was all so eerily quiet that you could even hear distant water dripping onto the floor from one of the halls.

However, your focus soon shifted on the horrible squeeze of someone grasping your entire head in one of their massive hands, lifting you off the ground as you gasp and struggle!

“URRRRRRROUGH!” You hear a monstrous roar yell from behind you, and you're soon tossed savagely into a stone pillar, your body crashing into it so hard that a decent chunk of it breaks away and crumbles!

You audibly howl in pain from the throw, followed by the chunks of rock that fall onto you after.

“Shang Tsung thought he heard a rat behind him, but it's much too pretty to be a rat”

You struggle to push your upper body up, looking at your attacker with one eye shut in pain.

“No, you're nothing but a pathetic mouse for me to crush!” said a four-armed, muscled monstrosity as it emerged from the shadows!

His skin was a sickly yellow and leathery, in fact it almost looked like parts of him were scales. Each of his three digit hands were bound in a barbaric brace to match the loin cloth that covered god-knows-what between his legs. His black hair was pulled back into a knot and descended down his back into a pony tail. When his face came into the light, his nostrils flared in thin slits above his large jaw.

“Even I heard you. You should've casted your eyes to the shadows by the door, stupid girl!”

You can only grit your teeth and hiss in pain for the moment, but you have to think of something to get out of this!

A: “What are you doing?! I was merely following my father!”

B: “I was lost, you jerk! Are you crazy?!”

C: Fire a starbolt into his face and use the time it gives you to recover.

D: Wait for him to get closer, then grab one of his ankles and pull his feet from under him!

“And you shouldn't talk until the fight's over!” You snarl back at him, your hand scraping across the ground as you hurl a powerful orb of Tamaranean energy at the monster!

The bolt travels in an arc and splashes against his face on impact, causing him to howl in agony as the napalm-like fire of the attack is scraped away by his massive hands desperately!

https://youtu.be/DZxR1Hb_IjI

You push yourself off the ground in a handspring, flipping backward before launching yourself right at him the moment your feet touch the ground!

A parting wave of dust and small bits of stone rises from where you dashed, showing how hard you've shot yourself forward at the towering opponent opponent as you cock your right fist back!

The beast frees his vision in enough time to see the moment just before your knuckles meet his lips, and once they do a small squirt of blood shoots off his upper lip as its crushed against his sturdy teeth!

You hit him hard, but not hard enough for the likes of him. He simply skirts back a short distance on his calloused heels, casually turning his head back to you as his upper right arm reaches to wipe the blood away with the back of his hand.

“Ghhh... You call this a fight? Challenging Goro is a execution, girl.” He warns.

“Pretty sure you challenged me, jerk.” You spit back at him, taking your Okaaran war-stance against the one called Goro. It's one you use against the really serious threats!

“Stepping into my domain is a challenge in itself. One you will pay dearly for!” He roars, running forward with all four of his arms arranged in different pre-striking positions!

His heavy legs shake the ground as he sprints at you, his booming footsteps sounding like a carpet bombing.

You hover off the ground to compensate for the staggering height difference, and prepare for his first attack as a wild haymaker is tossed at you!

You block the punch, but you weren't fully prepared for the force behind it and you find yourself being flung back a short distance, though Goro is sticking to you like fly paper and closing the distance with ease!

A maelstrom of fists are thrown at you, and you're pushed to the top of your strength to counter the rush with an army of kicks and strikes of your own!

You even channel energy into your hands to make every blow a burning one, but his skin is really tough! The only reason he was stopped earlier was because you blinded him!

There are thunderous painful impacts as your limbs collide, and it doesn't seem like one is truly getting an edge over the other quite yet!
A: You might not be able to burn him, but a concussive beam from your eyes might do the trick!

B: You can fight better if his punches were weaker. Armor up!

C: If your star energy won't work, your constructor will!

D: Look for a gap in the punches, then fly over him and grab him by his stupid hair!

If your star energy won't work, your constructor will!

You're quick to reach a hand down to your waist, turning on the device instead of truly constructing anything!

The constructor simply projects forward in a straight, a sharp beam stabbing into Goro's abdomen and causing him roar in agony as he halts his onslaught!

You pull back from him as well, making some distance to fully arm yourself with the device so it can read your thoughts.

The smoking wound in Goro's lower body didn't pierce very far into his skin, and seeing how a small amount of blood is able to trickle out of the wound it didn't seem to do too good of a job cauterizing him either. What is this guy made of?!

“Your attempts to burn me are futile!” He shouts at you, and suddenly a green light shines off the palm of his upper left arm!

“NO WAY!” You shout in complete disbelief, as Goro throws a massive green bolt of flaming energy at you!

You leap out of the way, the mortar of fire decimating the ground you were once standing in and throwing you off balance with the pressure wave it creates!

Forced into a tumble, you regain control with a side roll as you look to the crater of molten rock he had just created.

Was that a star bolt?! No, it couldn't have been! But... Darn it, you've really gotten into a mess this time. Whoever this Goro guy is, his boasting just might be warranted.

Still, despite his power catching you off guard, you now know why your energy has little effect on him if he's able to project that out of his body. Not only that, you KNOW you can at least cut through him.

You get back on your feet, your constructor firmly in your grasp as it forms a longsword.

“Now you see, don't you?” He confidently asks, scoffing at your weapon.

“I am not a warrior to be defeated, but a dragon you wish to slay.”

“I don't care what you are, but I'm not going to lose to you! If you don't want to get seriously hurt, I suggest you yield now!” You sternly advise, scowling at him.

He laughs, beating one of his hands against his massive chest.

“You may try. Goro falls to no one!”

“Yeah, except when you punch him in the fuckin' balls.”

Goro's eyes widen along with yours, as you both seem to recognize the voice coming from the door you arrived in.

There in the doorway, a smug smile under his shades and his arms folded proudly across his chest, is Johnny Cage.

“Mr. Cage!” You shout at him, preparing to warn him to get out of here before Goro gives him a much louder greeting.

“CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!” He roars with all the might he can muster!

Johnny just sticks a pinky finger in his ear and twists it, cleaning it out after the deafening roar hits him.

“Sup? You owe me some sunglasses. I'm here to collect.” He announces.

“Mr. Cage get out of here! This guy is really strong and I don't want him to--”

Before your words can get out, Goro attempts to rush at the Hollywood actor, but Johnny surprises you...

You're not sure what happened, but there's a flash of green energy around Johnny's body as he instantly shoots forward with a straight kick to Goro's chest!

The impact is painfully audible, and it hits as hard as it sounds! Goro gets the wind knocked out of him as he's forced onto his back with a fall that really looks like it hurt a lot!

Johnny then quickly leaps through the air in a somersault, landing at your side flawlessly and flashing you a smile.

“Hurt... You...” You finally finish, in complete awe of this cocky actor's display of power.

“... How'd you find me?” You ask.

“I didn't, got lost looking for a place to take a dump.” He answers, nodding his head to the recovering Goro.

“He'll do.”

As Goro rises to face you both, the two of you sync up a transition into your fighting stances as you stare down the goliath.

“... Not to kill the mood, but I wasn't kidding earlier about having to drop the browns off at the super-bowl. Let's finish this fast, alright?” Cage requests, and you can't help but slump in exhuast at his honesty.

"And how exactly are we supposed to end this quickly? This guy's gonna be tough, even for the both of us!"

Johnny's smirk doesn't shift, he just lowers his shades to look you directly in the eye.

“Simple. Pick a nut; left or right?”

“EW! I'm not using that technique on him!” You protest with a grimace.

“He's probably not wearing anything under that cloth!”

“So? Just less padding to cushion the blow. At least you can set your hand on fire so you won't have to feel it directly.” Johnny argues, his gaze snapping back to Goro as he starts to breathe in.

“That's the fire breath move! Split up!” He orders, rolling out of the way towards the left.

It takes you a moment to process what he said, but the torrent of fire that sprays out of Goro's mouth is quick to help you make a decision.

You take off the ground in a flighty jump, narrowly avoiding the flood of flames that coat the part of you were standing in with a hellish scorch!

Landing perfectly on your feet to the right side, Goro decides to shift his focus on you first!

With his stunning agility, he storms over to you with all four of his arms swinging, forcing you to desperately block as your limbs are pounded by the giant's muscular appendages!

As he beats and bashes against you, he's suddenly forced to stop as one of Johnny's shadow balls hits in in the back of the head with an agonizing splash!

He roars in pain and swivels his head around to face Johnny now, but that's what you needed!

Channeling energy into your fist, you deliver a crushing blow to his kidney, causing him to let out another howl as he stumbles from the searing pain you sent through his body!

Johnny is quick to act on this chance, running forward and hunkering down to deliver his signature groin punch... Until Goro is able to shake off the pain fast enough to squeeze to hands around Johnny's head!

Johnny grits his teeth and grunts in discomfort, his glasses cracking from the inhuman pressure of Goro's grasp. You have to do something!

A: Pull his other two arms behind his back and snap them!

B: Quick! Send your boot up his crotch and smash those jewels!

You curse at yourself. Dammit! You were really hoping it would never come to this, but the risk is too high now! You have to put a stop to this monster by any means necessary!

Johnn'y wail of pain pushes towards the decision even further, as you ready the longsword shining from your constructor and bullet yourself toward the back of Goro's neck!

He doesn't even glance around as you swing as hard and as fast as your body possibly can, but it doesn't really feel like you cut through anything!

You slide onto the ground, landing in a kneeling position as you ant softly to yourself.

Turning your head, you worry that you might've totally missed as Goro still clutches onto Johnny with a smile on his face.

That worry soon dies along with Goro, as a thin line of red starts to appear around his leathery neck.

His smile soon involuntarily loosens into an expression of a horrible realization, the ring of red around his neck starting to pour down across his chest and shoulders in a stream of blood.

At long last, the head falls cleanly off his body and unleashes a torrent of blood spraying from the wound. It shoots towards the air and rains down around his body, but due to the angle of him leaning forward somewhat most of it sprays into Johnny's face.

You cover your mouth in horror as you watch the spectacle of your first kill, especially what it's done to your ally in the fight.

Eventually it lessens into a large stream that trickles over the stump of his neck, at which Johnny finally pries the lifeless hands from his head and stands to turn and face you.

His entire face is just covered in a murky paint of red, and it looks like he's frowning from what you can make out of his face.

He reaches up to his eyes and removes the pair of shades that had been broken in the struggle, the only clean part of his face contrasting against the red with the stenciled imprint of where his sunglasses once were.
Then, strangely, he procures another pair of shades from somewhere on his person. It's a new pair, with not a smudge or cracked frame on them. He brings them over his eyes, and then grins with his pearly white teeth twinkling and clashing against the crimson features surrounding them.

“Oh yeah!” He happily cheers.

You feel like you're gonna faint.

That was the first time you've killed someone... And you feel...

A: Nothing. It's kind of scary, but maybe it's because you knew you had no other options.

B: Ashamed. How could you call yourself a hero after this?!

C: Sick to your stomach. This is horrible... How could anyone do this to another person?

D: Excited... Your heart is still racing... Is this what dad feels?

Your heart is pounding so hard you feel like your ribs are about to crack. There's an excitement still bubbling in your blood and you don't know if it'll every go away, and just below your wide eyes...

A very faint smile. One that Johnny wouldn't be able to pick up on, but you feel it. This feeling... This sense of fulfillment from completely defeating someone beyond the point of no return... Is this what your father feels? Is this the addiction he's succumbed to?

“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!”

A raspy shout breaks your concentration as Shang Tsung emerges from one of the tunnels opposite of you to, hurrying over to the site of Goro's death.

“Which one of you desired to break the rules of the tournament and face Goro early?! Which of you is so eager to face an execution by my hand?!”

“Hey, calm down Shang... You get any angrier and that Botox magic you got going on will wear off.” Johnny taunts, reaching into his back pocket and pulling out a handkerchief to wipe his face.

“Look, I got lost trying to find a crapper, me and Goro reunited, then things kind of got out of hand and... Now his head came off!”

“So your soul will be the one I devour, Cage?” He hisses, a emerald haze starting to materialize around his hands.

“No!” You shout, standing straight up.

“I cut his head off, and you should use that magic on yourself seeing how you're the one who ordered him to stay behind and attack me!”

His hands fall somewhat, the face of anger shifting into one of disdain.

“Miss Kuwabara... I'm disappointed to find out you were the rat that had nipping at our heels. Your father will be devastated to find out--”

“Find out what?”

Your dad quickly emerges from the tunnel, causing Shang Tsung to hold his tongue as he jogs over.

“... Woah. I thought you said Goro was a champion? Who laid him out like a total punk... ass...”

Your dad's eyes shift their focus from the giant corpse towards you, and he's totally speechless.

It makes your heart flutter seeing the smile start to form on his face. Having your father show pride in your combat prowess always made you feel loved, and it was something you constantly strived for while training on Okaara. With a warm smile, you start to open your arms as your dad hurriedly walks over and--

“Mr. Cage, it is an honor to finally meet you sir!”

… Walk right past you.

He excitedly shakes the celebrity's hand with two of his own, followed by a rapid set of polite bows.

“I love the Ninja Mime franchise almost as much as I love my wife! It's such a hard decision that I force the two to be together with me every time a new installment comes out!” He proclaims, running down how much he loves Johnny Cage.

“I also buy out every seat to make sure it does extra well on opening day! Also, if there's a bad review I get on their ass and call them pathetic losers with no taste, and that if they ever write a review like that again I'll show u to their houses and kill their entire--”

“Woah, woah! Okay I get the picture... You're THE Number one fan...” Johnny Cage responds, rubbing the back of his head. It seems that even a massive ego of Johnny's can't handle the fulfillment it gets from someone like your dad.

“Are you kidding? I'm the strongest fan in the universe! My wife's pregnant again, and if it's a boy I'm calling him Johnny after you! Ah, this is the best day of my life!”

“MR. KUWABARA!”

Shang Tsung interrupts, his fierce expression returning.

“Goro is dead!”

Your dad looks down at his body, shrugging.

“Who gives a shit? You know this guy's famous, right?” He asks.

In a weird sense of irony, you and Shang Tsung share a sense of disbelief at your father.

Your father is still gushing over Johnny Cage, and Shang Tsung hovers around the two as he seethes with rage at your father's behavior.

… Now that you think of it, could this be the perfect time to quietly break away from the commotion and go snooping? You now know what tunnel they went through to get here, so it should be simple!

A: No, don't risk it!

You take a few cautious steps back, only deciding to turn heel and quietly slink away once Shang Tsung starts to aggressively address your father.

You quickly traverse the dark tunnel, not wasting any time taking in details of your surroundings. It is uncertain how long you have to search, so you must make the most of it.

The tunnel finally ends at a single iron door, but you're forced into a recoil at the sight of it.

The front is noting but iron faces contorted into various states of terror, and it feels like if you listen closely you can hear the faintest of nightmarish screams humming from it.

A shiver runs down your spine, and for a moment you reconsider venturing forth... But you know that isn't possible. Not for someone who's determined to protect the Earth no matter what!

You quickly shoot your trembling hand forward and fling the door open, only to dash inside and shut it behind you. There! You did it so fast you didn't have time to be scared!

Looking up to focus on the details of the room before you, there's a feeling of bewilderment as you look upon what seems to be a magic lab of sorts.

You travel through a corridor lined with books and make your way into a large room of various tables and shelves carrying a cornucopia of strange wonders. The severed heads and other limbs of animals you've never seen, strange mixtures either being cooked or bubbling, and what looks like a rack of surgical tools.

As you wade through the displays of science, your eyes finally catch what's in the center: A massive, muscle bound corpse dressed like a barbaric warrior.

You carefully edge towards the body, looking it over with intrigue as you hover over it.

This is beyond death... Whoever this guy was, they're more like a husk than an actual corpse. The skin has color, there's no wound you can visibly see, and it's also still completely dressed. In fact, the helmet with the skull mask forged into it looks somewhat regal... Who is this guy?

A: Whoever it is, you should burn them now!

B: You still have your phone on you, right? Take a picture of him!

C: Get a closer look. There has to be some details you're missing.

D: Keep searching the rest of the area for more clues.

You pull out your phone and take as many pictures as possible, getting every angle and every feature that could help identify him.

You don't know why, but something about him felt important. Really important. He looked pretty strong too... But too strong for you to want to fight him. In fact, you really wanted to avoid this guy. There's just something about that human skull covering his face that really sets off alarms in your head.

“Alright... That should be good!” You tell yourself, preparing to leave.

Cautiously yet briskly, you maneuver around the tables once more to the door, which thankfully lacks the terrifying frame on the inside of the room.

You're still just as quick to open and shut the door though, but once you turn around to start moving down the hall you're met with another person's presence and it catches you completely off guard as you nearly smash your face into his exposed chest.

He's tall and reeks of booze, wearing tactical military pants and leg gear below his nearly bare upper body. The only thing that dresses him above the belt is a raggedy vest and a harness around a glowing chest core similar to the one belonging to the late Hsu Hao. Unlike him, however, a quarter of his face is entirely chrome, particularly left eye as his cybernetic retina shines a crimson light on you. The tribal dragons tattooed across his arms and shoulders tense with his muscles, his lips spreading into a grin.

“'Ello, lovely.” He says in an Australian accent, and his words are by no means friendly.

“Seems you've picked a poor place to get lost...”

He starts to draw a large knife from his belt with a sinister chuckle.

“... Really, a knife? I just got done killing that Goro guy and you come at me with that?” You ask, any tension leaving your body immediately. You associate knives with low class goons too often, but most of the time you're right.

“... Oi, don't be taking the piss now, but is your name Rena?” He asks, the smile disappearing.

“... Yes?” You answer, worried about where this is going.

“Nrgh, bugger.” He curses, sheathing the knife and stepping out of the way.

“I can't carve you up now, it'd be bad for business. Don't comfortable, though... Someone's gonna pay the right amount to give you a new hole to scream out of. You shouldn't have gone in there, Sheila.”

You glare up at him, taking a moment before actually stepping by him.

The Australian cyborg spits at the ground before starting to turn away and enter the room you just came out of.

A: “How do you know my name?”
B: Hurry back to the others you left behind, don't leave them with any suspicions if you can!

C: See if you can find a way back to the surface without running into everyone else. You have to show these pictures to someone!

D: Maybe there's more info you can gather... Could you hide somewhere and wait for Shang Tsung to return here? Maybe you could record him...

There's got to be another way out of here. It'd get messy if you had to walk back to the others.

You wander through the tunnel, deciding this time to pay closer attention to the walls around you in search of another path.

After what feels like several minutes, you do find a narrow passage way carved into the wall on your left, and without much thought or care you shimmy your way through it.

It's getting increasingly dark through here, so you decide to light the path with some star energy.

Revealed in the violet light are stairs crudely carved into a slope leading upward, but there's no passage above them that you can see.

You travel up the steps until you accidentally bonk your head against the ceiling, causing you to yelp in surprise and rub the sore area of your head.

Touching the ceiling, you can feel some looseness to it, and on a whim you begin to push up on it as a ray of light hits your eyes, revealing that you've found the outside world beyond those catacombs.

As you continue to push up, you find out that you had opened a secret hatch camouflaged by vines and grass. As you climb out, you look around and find yourself a few feet outside of the temple area.

Sighing, you start walking back to the tournament grounds. You feel too pooped to really fly.

Then you hear the shuffling of leaves behind you. Someone else is going to surprise you with their presence. Again. This is so tiresome.

You turn around with a frown as the next unwanted guest leaps from the surrounding trees, but your face quickly brightens up when you see who it is as they land.

“Namur!” You shout up at him, showing a small smile.

The cat-warrior lands in front of you swiftly and with little noise, returning the smile.

“Rena.” He greets.

“What are you doing out here?”

“I could ask you the same thing big guy!” You respond, giving him a friendly punch on the arm.

He takes a deep breath and smiles contently to himself, gazing at the area around you both.

As the wind blows through the trees in the exotic forest area and gives it life, Namur can only dreamily praise the land.

“It reminds me of home. I feel like I'm reliving precious memories as I train out here. It's comforting... What about you? I didn't see you fly in.”
“Oh, I'll explain later with everyone else. You won't believe what I've been through.” You tell him with an exhausted slump.

With that, you both walk back to the temple and exchange pleasantries, with your mind hustling to find ways of explaining what happened.

Sorry that took so long to post, but I fell asleep at my desk ;_;

Namur had led you to where you and other fighters would be staying, which was tall structure that matched the rest of the island's buildings when it cam to its exterior, but to you it seemed like their take on a hotel.

Outside the gates leading to the structure was the blonde commando Johnny had been pestering after the first set of matches, but she was joined by another member of the armed forces definitely don't remember seeing.

He was a tall dark-skinned man wearing fatigues similar to the woman, but what really stood out were the pair of cybernetic arms folded across his chest. You hope he hasn't met your dad yet... He can be a real ass when it comes to comparing parts.

“That's Major Sonya Blade and Jackson Briggs. Raiden introduced us to them a few moments ago.” Namur informs you before you even get the chance to ask.

“They aren't the friendliest, but they are on our side. Your friend Crush was apparently rescued by Sonya when she was young.”

“Huh... Should we say hi?” You ask.

Namur looks hesitant to answer, but you think you already know what he would say when he starts to walk a bit faster past them.

“She is... Scary, to say the least. What's worse is that Lady Diana approves of her harshness.”

You can't help but snicker at his suspense, following him through the main doors of the housing structure.

Ahead of you is a lobby that splits off into two hallways to the left and right, but between them is an opening that displays a beautiful garden and pond, the landscape stretching all the way to the opposite end of the building.

“We've gathered in a room this way.” Namur motions to the right side.

“Would you like me to guide you?”

You're about to answer, but something catches your eye near the pond's edge ahead of the both of you.

Killer Croc, Copperhead and Reptile have congregated over there and there seems to be a heated discussion going on among them. Maybe you should step in, seeing how your father brought to of those men over.

A: Go meet Raiden and the others.

Your brow furrows.

“I'll be with you in a minute, buddy. I think I need to see what my dad's friends are up to.”

Namur looks over at the pond as well, chuckling.

“Oh, so you prefer the company of their scales over my fur? I see how it is, Miss Rena.” He teases, earning another punch in the arm from you.

“Oh, shut up...” You groan in feigned annoyance, giving him a friendly wave as you make your way over to the trio of scaly men.

“... You keep eyeballin' me, and I'm gunna rip you in half!”

You're in earshot of hearing Killer Croc voicing some beef he has with Reptile, and now that you have a closer look you can see that Copperhead is trying to make a small attempt to keep him from starting a fight.

Reptile on the other hand... IS just staring at him. What gives?

“Waylon, you just ate... It probably isn't the best idea to eat him right now, hmm?” Copperhead tries to convince him, his voice wily and slick as he speaks through a set of artificial fangs.

“Who said anythin' about eatin'?!” Killer Croc snaps his razor sharp jaws down at Copperhead, but soon his eyes pick up on your presence and you can clearly see the agitation in his face weaken.

“Kid...” He greets, doing his best to not channel his anger at the boss' daughter.

Copperhead and Reptile glance at you soon after, watching as you stand there with your hands on your hips.

“What are you guys doing? You better not be starting any trouble.” You warn them, giving them all a stern look.

“The only one looking for trouble is this scrawny bastard!” Killer Croc hisses at Reptile, making a sigh rise in Copperhead's elongated throat.

“Our friend here sought out a one-sided staring contest with Waylon here while he was enjoying the pond, and our big friend here took offense to that.”

You blink at Copperhead's expression when you first hear it, but you're quick to mold a cross look on your face when you turn back to Killer Croc.

“Seriously?! You need to find better things to get mad at! And you--”

You turn your face to Reptile, being just as reprimanding.

“What're you doing? Are you trying to pick a fight?”

Neither answer, making you pinch your brow as you continue to scold them.

A: “Why does him staring at you get you worked up anyway?”

B: “Look, I know we aren't on the same team, but why are you staring at Croc anyway? It's an honest question that deserves an honest answer.”

C: “... Wait, did my dad make you stay near Croc, Copperhead?”

“Look, I know we aren't on the same team, but why are you staring at Croc anyway? It's an honest question that deserves an honest answer.”

Reptile doesn't even look at you, his eyes remain focused on Killer Croc as his stomach churning voice speaks.

“He resembles my lost race of people. Perhaps he is a offspring of them, in which case the next breed must have his genetic qualities.”

You and Copperhead exchange a shocked glance. Wow, he's the last of his kind? That's actually really rough. You kind of feel bad for him...

“He must pass on his genes to the next brood, for we have no chance of guaranteeing our survival in this tournament. Extinction would be a fate worse than any death we could receive.”

“GRRRRRRRAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!” Killer Croc lashes out but you and Copperhead are quick to grab his arms and hold him back from swiping at the scaly ninja.

“I AIN'T AN ENDANGERED SPECIES! I'M A MAN GODDAMMIT!” Croc roars, gnashing his teeth and trying desperately snap his jaw at his offender.

“YOU COME AT ME AND TELL ME SHIT OUT SOME EGGS? IS THAT WHAT THAT WAS?! I'M GONNA TEAR YOUR THROAT OUT AND MAKE IT A BEER COOZY YOU SUNNUVA BITCH!”

Reptile hisses in response, beginning to fade from sight with his invisibility.

There's a wave of grass that rises from where he once stood, giving you the impression that he's leaped away from you three and already scurried off.

You and Copperhead loosen your grips, and Killer Croc is quick shake his arms loose, turning away and looking into the pond.

“Stupid bastard... Lucky I didn't cleave that asshole apart...” He grumbles, beginning to walk forward into the water.

“... Well, that happened.” Copperhead remarks, looking at you as his forked tongue dips in and out of his mouth for a moment.

“I suppose I should thank you for holding him back.”

You shrug. It honestly was a reflex for you, not something done out of the kindness of your heart.

Copperhead snakes himself closer your ear as he watches Killer Croc sink deeper and deeper into the water, whispering some light gossip to you.

“He's actually really sensitive if you make comparisons like that. It's one thing to call him ugly or a monster, but I've seen an inmate relate him to an alien species he saw in a movie only for Waylon to chew him up and spit him out. I mean that literally, FYI.”

You shudder. You don't even want to imagine what the aftermath of that looked like.

“To be honest, I wish I had his birth defect. Would've saved some time and money if I didn't have to modify my body like this.”

A: Go to Waylon and try to be nice. Tell him you don't think he's a part of some weird race to make him feel better.

B: “Oh yeah, dad said you see my Grandma all the time! Though I don't know if I approve of her aiding someone like you...”

C: “Huh... Yeah, I'm gonna go. Stay out of trouble, please!”

You slowly nod, but really this whole thing has gotten a bit too uncomfortable.

“Huh... Yeah, I'm gonna go. Stay out of trouble, please!”

Before he responds, you start to briskly walk away, leaving them in your dust. It's a bit rude to leave them like that but... Actually you don't really care.

You quickly make your way to the hall Namur told you about earlier, keeping an eye out for where the others might be.

After stepping several paces, you see a sliding canvas door held ajar further down the hall, and from within you can just make out Crush's white flesh.

Putting some pep in your step, you hurry over to the door, and slide it open with an eager hand.

The interior resembled a living room with kitchen tools and appliances lining the walls in the right corner, and you could already smell some tea brewing.

Sat on the floor around a small table were the shaolin monks and Damien, the three exchanging words before you arrived and now having shifted their focus to you.

Crush was leaning against a wall in the center of the room, looking rather moody as she watched Emiko tinker with her bow beside the door.

Namur could be seen with Wonder Woman on the right side of the door, with Namur sat in a chair and cleaning her sword with red-stained cloth.

You... You didn't know where Raiden had been prior, but he was in front of you now with a concerned expression.

“Miss Kuwabara, I sense trouble within you.” He audibly observes, and either by his volume or his origin, the voice of the Thunder God diverts everyone's attention to the two of you.

“I... I found something.” You tell them, pulling out your phone and going through your pictures.

“That Shang guy had some secret tunnels he and my dad were in. One of them led to a room where I found this guy...” You start to explain, pulling up an image of the masked husk you had found.

You turn it to show Raiden, and within milliseconds his eyes go wide with either fear or anger as he snatches your phone from you and stares at the image in disbelief.

His head shakes slightly as his face twists into a more frightening expression, his reaction causing almost everyone in the room to stand and grow concerned with Raiden's emotions.

All he had to say at the sight of the image was a name:

“SHAO KAHN?!”
