General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Feraligatr)
Sorbet (Vulpix)
Ghost Pepper (Rotom)

“Let’s go!” You say excitedly. You’ve been wondering about this festival for awhile. And you’ll have a chance to see Valerie.

“So uh, what can we expect there?” Hana asks.

“The festival is about the cycles of the world, and growth. The first day is of the morning, the sixth night is of death, but the sunrise of the seventh morning is about renewal and hope.” Laki answers, then thinks. “Those women that took care of you didn’t really teach you much, did they?”

It’s not a critical question, but Hana looks defensive. “They offered to get a tutor and whatever books I wanted, but...”

“But you were more interested in movies and games, right?”

Hana looks down. “Sorry.”

“You didn’t do anything to me. It’s yourself you owe an apology to. Don’t worry though, I’m going to teach you everything.” Laki says, pulling her in by the small of her waist. Hana already looks distracted.

When you arrive at the beach to leave for the festival, Laki releases Wailord.

“Are you sure you know how to get there at night?” Hana asks.

Laki and Abigail almost chuckle. Abigail handles this one. “This is one of the easiest routes in the region. I managed it when I was a little girl.” Abigail offers you a hand onto Wailord. “But don’t worry, Goldentop, we won’t make you do it alone with Dice.”

So, I’ve been thinking about experiments we can do with our aura powers, since we’ve decided we need to git gud quick.

I think the next logical step is to see what happens to someone who is “healed” (aka has aura energy put into them) when they have no injuries for that aura to act on.

I expect to give them a cool supercharged state, where they’ve got extra strength and endurance and maybe their aura becomes visible to more people.

I think transferring energy from Wailord to Laki would be a good way to test it out. They’re emotionally close, Wailord has a lot of energy, and Laki is very healthy.
>>
I still wanna knock up Keira. Laki's only pissed because she wants to be first.
>>
“Thanks.” You take her hand and hop onto Wailord. The massive pokemon gives a soft, approving sound in reaction. He must recognize your footstep.”Ocean travel is still intimidating.”

Abigail reflects on her joke failing to get the desired result. Instead of being disappointed, she decides she’s satisfied with that response and smiles. “Never change, Herb.” She even gives your hair a little tussle pulling you the rest of the way up. Why does everyone do that?

As you take off into the dark ocean, everyone does their usual travel routine. Laki is doing some stretches with her pokemon, Abigail is reading, and Hana is fishing off the side. She’s joked before that she thinks it’s wiser for her to bring the ocean up to her than go down into it. Gardevoir is standing in the middle, staring up at the full moon. She tends to get distracted by bright lights sometimes.

I was thinking that was a major factor for her too. There is a surprisingly simple solution to that. Remember, we described this to Keira as helping a friend, not starting a relationship/family. It’d be pretty shitty if she’s committed to this already and has to go with a backup that she doesn’t know well because we back out. Basically NTR territory for a lot of players.

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to tell Laki about our m.m. sesh with Keira, since it’s relevant to current events in our relationship, or does it not matter since it happened before we were dating anyone and we shouldn’t kiss-and-tell?

Then again, Keira did volunteer the info to Laki herself right after, so we know she isn’t expecting discretion.

You walk up to Gardevoir. She doesn’t react and keeps staring up at the moon.

You look up too, trying to see what she sees. All you notice though, are clouds, stars, and a big full moon. It’s nice, at the very least. Pretty. And since it’s a warm night you can just stand here staring for a long time. The shimmering of the stars and details of the moon become even clearer as you get away from the lights of the city and deeper into the dark void of the ocean. You stare until a cloud covers it.

You look down to see Gardevoir and she’s already staring at you.

“Gah!” You jump.

“Gah!” She jumps back as well. Then giggles away the excess energy from the fright. You realize you were laughing first, but somehow that makes it funnier.

You sigh as the last of it leaves you. Her face is so human-like. She should be the easiest pokemon in the group to read, instead of the hardest.

“You wish to know about my state of mind.” She echoes her voice into your head instead of speaking. “In regards to Horrifying Darkness.”

You nod.

“I wish to know how you feel, first.” She says.
>Can’t she read your mind?

“I feel responsible for bringing this into your life. And everyone else's. But I really appreciate how you fished my bacon out of that fire. Sorry you had to get involved.”

“Did you intend to arrange these events?”

“Well, no.”

“Did you have experience and foreknowledge

“People often wish to believe we have more power and agency than we do. The events that lead to this are not your fault.”

You feel a surprising sense of relief to hear her say that. Mostly because you know she really believes that. “Thanks. You know. As scary as this is, I think it’s all going to work out. I...we’ll figure out. It’s not fair, but that’s life, right?” You smile. You think about that one song dad used to sing that was sad at first but had a happy ending.

She says nothing.

“What about you? How do you feel about this?”

“Fear of that the darkness will block out the sun.” She says without missing a beat.

You give her a hug, carefully avoiding the pointy bit. “It’s okay to be scared. But don’t worry. The morning always comes again, however dark the night” You quote from your dad’s song. It doesn’t sound as natural as when he sings it, but it still feels right.

She leans on you more than you had expected. “You misunderstand. You are the sun.”

You aren’t sure what to make of that. When you break the hug and look at her, she returns to staring up at the moon. The clouds have vanished.

After a moment, you decide to try another subject. “So, I don’t suppose you have any advice on how to handle things with Keira?”

“Lay her on her back and take control. She’s nervous and inexperienced, and will want your reassurance that she’s not doing anything wrong.” She doesn’t take her eyes off the moon. “These thoughts have been strong in her mind.”

You raise a finger and open your mouth to say that’s not what you meant, but Hana reeling in her catch distracts you. She pulls hard, grunting. Whatever it is, it’s huge! She decides to give some slack, but the pokemon still comes up anyway.

Everyone turns and freezes up as a massive, angry looking Gyarados staring at her. Wailord even freezes up too. All of you slowly coast in the water a few feet as the big eyes look down at Hana, and the big mouth spits the fishing hook out.

When will this bad luck ever let up?

>Walk up and be friendly. Just because it’s upset doesn’t mean it’ll get violent.

“Hi there.” You greet it loudly. You want to draw it’s attention, but also let everyone else hear your voice so they don’t do something that would confuse it. Instead of rushing into action, you calmly and non-threateningly walk forward. Laki, who had her hand up and was about to jump into action, hesitates again.

You definitely have it’s attention. Hana is able move again now that she’s not under that gaze. Instead of getting far away, she backs towards you, keeping herself subtley between you and Gyarados.

“Sorry about that hook.” You say on her behalf.

“Y-yeah.” She adds in. “I wasn’t fishing for you. Not that you’re uh, not great.”

The anger coming from the Gyarados is only matched by confusion. It keeps switching looking between you and Hana. You move a little closer, but Hana doesn’t let you get around her.

“If anything happens, I’ve got it.” She whispers with surprising stubbornness.

The mighty pokemon looks upset at being momentarily ignored. It huffs, and Wailord responds with a meek, submissive noise.

“Wow, you’re really big!” You say, meaning every word of it.

“Massive.” Hana backs you up with a lot of uncertainty in her voice.

“I bet you have no problems at all with those tricky currents.”

It looks a bit more prideful and less angry.

“And look at those shiny scales. I bet you’re eating well for sure.” You look closer, wondering what sort of diet it needs. You forgot yourself for a moment and motion to the fishing rod. “I don’t suppose you can recommend any good fishing spots? I don’t have to guess to figure you’re having better luck than us catching something to eat.”

It gives you a funny look, then gestures further ahead.

“Thanks.” You say, gratefully.

Wailord starts moving again, slowly. You glance over and see Laki at the front directing it.

Gyarados watches curiously, confounded at what just happened. It keeps staring as your group slowly drifts away.

Hana’s fear has turned to general excitement. Her breathing is intense and she looks full of energy. “I can’t believe that just happened.”

“Thank you!” You wave. What a nice pokemon.

“Keep going.” Abigail says to Laki under her breath.

You and Hana head over there. Her eyes are as wide as can be.

“Hey, how come we’re heading in a different direction than where it said the fish were?”

Laki raises one eyebrow. “I’m the captain of this Pokemon and I’m not taking us to a spot where Gyarados hunt for food.” She turns back again. “That was really impressive, by the way. Both of you. I didn’t know what to do.”

You and Hana beam from the praise.

“What the hell was that doing out here?” Abigail is the only one not in a good mood.

“I don’t know.” Laki says. “They show up in the deeper waters, but not here. Something must be going on.”

After you get further away, everyone relaxes a bit more. Abigail seems especially shaken up. Laki, though, is very cuddly. Before anything happens though, you arrive at the beach.

“Alright! Come on.” Laki says, retrieving Wailord and moving towards the muffled sounds and lights of the festival in the distance. “Thanks Wailord, you did well.”

“What’s the rush?” Abigail asks. “We have a whole week.”

“Exactly! Only one week.” She pulls you and Abigail by the hand. “And I want to clear the air with-”

Her sentence stops as a hyperactive blur flies out at wraps around her. “Keira!”

“Laki!” she shouts back. Then leaps to you. Her arms and legs wrapped around you draws another raised eyebrow from Laki.

Keira slides down you, the leaps back up to face you again. “What’s wrong?”

She looks so happy. Laki also senses that and looks a little hesitant to have that talk.

You look to Laki. Her face is stone serious as she nods.

“We need to talk.” You say, thinking it’s best to address this now. You take a hold of Hana and Laki’s hands, and motion for Keira to follow.

Abigail follows too, but Laki pushes her away by the face.

The four of you sit down at a nearby dry clearing.

“How have you been?” Hana asks Keira before you get into it.

She looks concerned for a moment, but quickly let’s it get washed away by the strong undercurrent of excitement she can’t contain. “I’ve been so wonderful! I feel like I’ve begun a new chapter of my life.” She bounces in her seat. “Most of the elders weren’t very excited about it, but High Priest Makai was surprisingly supportive and handled everything.” She sighs happily. “Oh, thank you so much. I never would have had the courage without knowing you were there to help me.”

She hugs you. Laki’s face is covered with uncertainty and hesitation.

“Umm, yeah.” Laki barely gets out. “That’s what we wanted to talk to you about.”

Keira hugs Laki next. “Don’t think I’m not just as grateful to you. I know this is a big imposition. I promise you I’ll respect any rules or limits you want. You’re one of my best friends and the last thing I want to do is make you feel uncomfortable.”

She hugs Hana next. Laki’s stone cold resolve is long gone.

“Hana. I don’t want to impose but I have so many questions I want to ask. I thought you’d be the best person to talk to.”

Hana gulps. “I don’t mind.”

Keira breaks the hug and leans back, smiling. She sniffs. You hadn’t realize she had started crying a little.

“Keira, are you alright?” You ask.

“Sorry.” She sniffles again. “It’s been an emotional few days. I know I’m being self-centered. I just feel like this huge weight is off my shoulders and I have this new and exciting life ahead, and it’s all thanks to you all giving me the strength to take this leap.” She sighs and gets a hold of herself. “What did you want to talk about?”

Laki looks like she can’t quite find the words.

Honestly, I’d still like to do this. This can be handled maturely without getting r9ked. It should be up to Laki (and Hana, but we know the answer there) whether to proceed.

Explain that, while our obliviousness and overall thick-headedness led to us promising what we didn't realize, we still want to at least do right by everyone involved and still help if at all possible. If it DOES end up actually being what we originally promised, we should at least make sure everyone understands what is expected and is on board.

Laki tries to gather her thoughts while the energetic Keira dangles her legs excitedly and waits.

Laki opens her mouth, then closes it, then coughs. “Soft Hands...ahem, he misunderstood what you were asking before.”

Keira’s happy wiggling slows down. “What do you mean?”

Laki scratches the back of her head. “I really don’t want to be the bad guy here...” She struggles with how to phrase this.

“I didn’t realize what you were asking.” You fill in. “I’m sorry, Keira. I didn’t mean to mislead you.”

Keira looks heartbroken. “So...you’re not going to help me?”

Hana gives Laki a pleading look that you don’t quite understand. Laki looks even more uncertain.

“I’m really sorry, Keira.”

Keira sniffles “No. It’s my fault. I put you in a very uncomfortable position and acted selfishly. Just like that time during the thunderstorm. I’m a terrible friend.”

“No you’re not.” Laki puts a hand on her shoulder. “We...we just didn’t talk about this.”

Hana snaps to attention.

“You mean we’re going to-”

“We’ll talk about it.” Laki says. “That’s all I’m promising right now.”

Keira lights right up again, but restrains herself. “I don’t want to cause any more trouble.”

“Talking isn’t trouble.” Laki says. “But for now, we could probably use some fun. Let’s hit the festival. We'll talk later tonight after we've had a chance to think.”

“Alright.” Keira smiles, giving Laki another big hug. Then Hana. She pauses when she comes to you. She starts a hug motion, then a handshake one, then hesitates even more. She gets over it quick and gives a quick sideways hug and runs off to Abigail.

"That went well." Hana says.

Laki sighs. “I don’t know what I’m doing.”

It seems too important to put off desu. Ask her what about the whole situation is bothering her. I’m curious if anon is right about this being about her not getting a baby first. Even if it isn’t, we should know what her real feelings are on this.
>>
>>3291884
>Well, there’s a lot of newness all around. It’s ok.
>She handled that really well
>She shouldn’t let feeling bad for Keira cause her to neglect her own feelings
>>
>>3291930
I’m expecting something like “I have to be present, he has to use condoms, no kissing him or Hana on the lips.”
>>
>>3291967
It’s a fertility ritual though. That kind of complicates things, especially for baby crazy Laki.
>>
>>3291988
I don’t think we’re starting at fertility ritual. I think we’re starting at being comfortable with sex in general.
>>
“You handled that really well.” You compliment her.

Laki gives a warm, but weak smile. “Thanks, Soft Hands. I still feel bad though. She’s like a cute little Growthlithe that had it’s bone taken away.”

Hana restrains herself from saying something.

“You shouldn’t let that make you neglect your own feelings, though.” You remind her. “But you really don’t have anything to feel bad about. You, Keira, Hana, you’re all innocent in this. It’s my fault.”

Laki pats you on the back. “Nah. I know you, Soft Hands. You’re just sweet and naive. Nobody is at fault here. It’s not like you were teasing some poor younger guy by getting him to give you intense oil massages or something.” She winks. “You owe me one of those tonight, by the way. Still, I feel...I don’t know. It’s complicated. I know I told you we’d tell Keira ‘no,’ and then I go and tell her we’ll talk about it. Sorry about that.”

You shrug. “Well, there’s a lot of newness all around. It’s ok.”

“Hey, umm...so how is everything feeling about it?” Hana asks. “About Keira?”

“Well, we already know how you feel.” Laki jokes. Her tone is soft, tired, but not upset.

Hana pouts a little. “That’s not fair. I’ve got more than one track in my mind. No, really, don’t laugh! I know I’m a bit more...you know, eager about sex stuff. But it turns out a healthy sexual relationship is scary and vulnerable and frankly a lot more involved than all those many, many times I’ve thought about it. All the emotions and exposing my body without worrying about making everyone uncomfortable about how weird it is and trying to make sure I’m adding to it and not just being a selfish lover getting off...it’s not actually something I can do with just anyone. I know I’m a huge pervert and what I say about this is pretty tainted by that, but I really do just want to see Keira happy.”

Laki listens. “Right. Fine. I respect that. But that just makes me the one standing in the way of Keira’s happiness.” Laki says, assuming you’re already fully in favor.

“Well, we haven’t actually asked what Herb wants yet.” Hana says. “But what about you? What makes you feel so against it?”

Laki looks like she just wants to get away from the conversation in general, but she forces herself to confront it head on. “I don’t know! I just... I’m scared about being less special.” She looks at you, then away again. “When I first starting feeling for you I felt like I was your world. Even when we started this whole thing, Hana, I felt like you held me in this special light. I just...I’m worried about my place with both of you.” Laki stands up. “I want to be special to you.”

You grab Laki and give her a big, warm hug. Then a kiss. Then back to the hug again. “Nothing will ever change that you’re special to me, or that I love you.”

Laki melts at hearing those words. Her hard, tough exterior is nowhere to be found as the vulnerable, gentle woman underneath lets you hold and care for her.

There’s a soft bump as Hana hugs Laki from behind. “I’m not intruding, right?”

“No, but you’re ruining the moment by asking.” Laki jokes.

“You’re special to both of us.” You continue to tell Laki. “And we’ll prove it. Whatever you want us to do we’ll spend the festival doing if it makes you feel special. All you need to do is tell us.”

Hana nods. "Yup. I'll hog tie Valerie and deliver her to your bed if you want." She thinks. "But Valerie can be talked into a lot. That might not be necess... uh, forget I said that. I just remembered I promised not to say anything.”

Laki softly chuckles. “I honestly didn’t want to make this into some big selfish thing. But that’s sweet. If you insist, there’s something you can do for me during the festival.” She reaches into her bag, takes out her vispum birth control, and tosses it to the side. “If you really mean it, then let’s forget about this stuff tonight.”

There’s a tiny little smirk on the edge of her lips. One she gets when she’s messing with you sometimes.

Herb probably doesn't think either of them are ready for a kid yet, but I have no doubt that if this was a one time thing, just for her to feel the thrill of it all, he'd say yes.
>>
>>3292403
To clarify, I don't want her to actually get pregnant, but if this is a safe way for her to feel the thrill she would get knowing she actually /could/ get pregnant, that's fine.

I think the risk is worth making Laki happy if that's what she really wants.

We’re already committed to her and we may be killed by a diety in the coming trials. This would’ve been insane earlier in the quest, but Herb is a man now, if not a spiritual guru. Gonna have to go with the yolo option here.

We know what the purpose of the fertility thing means, it wont change that Herb still feels like its to early but sometimes a dish cooks faster then expected and you have to take it out of the oven early.or pop it in the oven nudge nudge wink wink

that said if no baby's result from this week Herb would breath a big sigh of relief but not be upset by the alternative.

“Alright. Yes.” You say, calling her bluff. Mostly. You sort of mean it. Actually, the more you think about it, the more you’re okay with it."I want you to be happy."

You both hold each other’s gaze for a minute, trying to assess what the other is thinking.

“You’re the best.” She says, giving you a big, long kiss. “I was just messing with you...mostly. But you being willing to do this for me is... it means a lot. It means everything. I know I’m yours forever.”

“It’s not that big a deal. I don’t use that stuff and we still do it.” Hana jokes. Despite her comfort with the both of you she still always seems a little uncertain about pressing the envelope sometimes.

Laki turns to Hana. “Hana, this affects you too. Is this alright?”

“Yup.” Hana says casually. “Feels crazy and scary, but I’m okay with that. I’m not sure why.”

Laki looks to you again. “I know why.”

Hana smiles. “Yeah, me too.”

Even though this was about making Laki feel special, you’re the one feeling like the king of the world right now.

"You don't have to if you don't want to. You made the gesture. That's good enough for me." Laki takes you by the hand and starts taking you away to a dark, secluded spot under the stars.

Even though you know the odds aren’t that great, it’s still a risk. This has a chance of being a life altering moment

I said in a different thread that I’d like to see how a pregnancy would play out in a non-epilogue way. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in an involved way on this board. It seems like everyone involved is cool with it so I am too.
>>
>>3292539
>>Dive in. All moments can be life altering
>>
My dudes, we are unemployed. Our parents aren’t even planning on living here permanently, so we may not have their support. We have nowhere to put a kid and no way to support it.

And that’s assuming everything is typical. Some babies need extra work. Like with twins, or a preterm birth, or a disability.

I think, if Herb’s upbringing reflects mine (and reflects his attitude so far), then he values a stable home situation for his kids. Like, at least get married first. There’s no real situation I can see for him to be ready for the commitment of a child before the commitment of marriage.

I just don’t get this... rejection of family planning. Especially since family planning is exactly the sort of thing I expected fertility priestesses to be about.

Can someone explain what view I’m not seeing?
>>
>>3292904
Yeah, we are not in a stable situation right now, and are way too young, a pregnancy would be disastrous both in- and out-of-universe. I honestly think another vote should be held for this when the thread goes live again, because I was asleep for the vote, and feel this is far too big risk to take.

On that note, if the vote's still or will be open:

>>3292539
>>Don't do it. It's too risky

Like, I put our odds of pregnancy at around 3%, given a random point in Laki’s cycle.

But if we’re playing that game I guess we’re also rolling for whether there’s a miscarriage, (average rates across women are 15-20%), and that’s, uh, super not a story tone I’m going for.

I don’t want to play teen pregnant quest guys. Or at least, not as a part of this story.

Laki has explained several times that the way raising a family works here is different and involves the extended family on both sides more. Herb doesn't and is not expected to provide on his own (at least not until things settle down). On top of that, nine months (assuming she gets knocked up immediately, rather than taking a few tries) is a long as time by quest standards. Odds are that without a timeskip we'd be facing those problems around thread 200.

Also, considering she went off birth control literally seconds ago, the odds of pregnancy are still pretty tiny.

>Laki has explained several times that the way raising a family works here is different and involves the extended family on both sides more. Herb doesn't and is not expected to provide on his own (at least not until things settle down).

The extended family helping doesn’t mean Herb wouldn’t have any responsibility, and it would still throw a wrench into everything.

>On top of that, nine months (assuming she gets knocked up immediately, rather than taking a few tries) is a long as time by quest standards. Odds are that without a timeskip we'd be facing those problems around thread 200.

No, we’d be facing those problems the entire time the pregnancy would last. Pregnancies come with a lot of side effects & consequences, it doens’t have no effect on lifestyle until the baby pops out at the end.

>Also, considering she went off birth control literally seconds ago, the odds of pregnancy are still pretty tiny.

So why take the risk in the first place?
>>
>>3293127
>No, we’d be facing those problems the entire time the pregnancy would last.
We'd be facing problems, no doubt, but not the specific problems raised like "where do we leave the kid while we're out adventuring". That particular one, and those like it, is a long ways out.

>So why take the risk in the first place?
One, because it would earn us approximately one million Laki points. Two, because this is a work of fiction and sometimes it's better to do the impulsive, emotional thing instead of the rational, logical response.

>>3293125
Laki and her family don't consider it mooching, that's the point. By their reasoning your ideas are a prideful rejection of family. It's only mooching if the time spent accepting their help isn't spent establishing your own means of support.
>>
>>3293145
I know they don’t, but what about Herb and his family?
>>
>>3293145
>Laki and her family don't consider it mooching, that's the point. By their reasoning your ideas are a prideful rejection of family. It's only mooching if the time spent accepting their help isn't spent establishing your own means of support.
Herb and his family aren't Islanders, and hold diffrent views on family. And it would come across as shameful to jump into this sort of thing when it's not a responsibility we're actually prepared for.
>>
>>3292904
Family planing is a part of the fertility priestesses shit but I don't think it lands in what you quite seem to think.

Their whole cultures start point is a catastrophic literal "rocks fall, everyone dies" scenario. So starting of families and strong birth rates are probably the primary goal of the fertility priestesses. Add to that they have their natural birth control super plant which means the risk of over populating the islands in the past wasn't a problem. Now that they are clued in to an extent what "The Mainland" is population wise it becomes a serious political moment.

With all the heavy shit involved with us Joining Keira in her things doing this with Laki isn't even a fraction of the complexity.

>>3293176
I wouldn't be super surprised if we end up with some woopsie racism from his dad what with his own experience on the islands in his younger days. It was implied he was laying some pipe but then came back to civilization.
>>
>>3293210
If I remember right, the clergy’s role until recently included limiting the population due to the scarcity of land to put people, not to encourage repopulation.
>>
Aside from all that, we really should talk to Keira and Jane about mad fug asap, like we decided we would earlier.

Maybe we’ll talk Lady fug into letting us bring them in on everything in our dreams tonight?
>>
>>3292539
>>Don't do it. It's too risky
>>
>>3293232
Their role has been to control most of the lives and culture at least since the dust up with the normal temple which wasn't that long ago when counting all of their history. With that in mind most population control movements in our real history are really more for controlling people then an actual limit to the livable space available.

Anyway it has a lot of connection to natural ebbs and flows of nature. Say a war happens or a natural disaster and it would switch from preserving the limited resources and space of the islands to increasing the population, The new feeling of Loanah being a very small part of a larger whole is definitely going to be effecting the cultural view of whether or not its a time for growth.

You’re all making good, rational points. The only issue is that you’re doing so from a modern, real world perspective. This is a completely different situation.

Think back to the threads where we were around Laki’s family. The comments about her being one of the last ones her age still single. Her mom dropping grandkids comments in front of a guy she just met. Her dad built his own house, no modern issues over insane mortgages seem to be relevant. Laki has made a ton of comments about wanting to do this throughout the quest. This is normal from a cultural perspective.

This also comes after personal character developments that were all about being more decisive and more of a man. Looking the woman you love in the eye and saying okay to her not using the birth control and her getting excited only for you to opt not to be too risky is very indecisive.

When I saw that this was going to be the last vote of the night, I was worried. I was worried because leaving this open allows people to take a step back and try to make the most calculated and rational decision possible. That’s not in character and that doesn’t reflect the passion of the situation. These are unique circumstances that should be one of those instant decisions.
>>
Not taking the pill for a single night should only allow for an extremely low chance of pregnancy, right? I think I'm fine with taking that risk.

We better get with Keira after this, though, we have clearly shown our commitment to Laki.
>>
>>3292656
So we could be the first to see her face... I’ll be in my bunk.
>>
>>3293127
> So why take the risk in the first place?
Adventure is in the title. Why stand up to dangerous Pokémon in the first place?
>>
>>3293463
Very well said anon
>>
>>3293463
That’s sensical.

I do still feel it’s a bit past what I’d consider to be Herb and Laki both compromising on the timeline. If Herb had had, say, an indication that he could quickly get a good paying job as a healer, or won a plot of land, I may be on board.

But as is, it feels like he’s not pursuing his own needs much.
>>
>>3294498
No doubt. He’s going to need to change that. I’d be interested in following up on a potential new normal temple. Maybe that can fulfill his basic needs of land/shelter while he pursues the power he needs to resist the Fugs.
>>
Having a lot of kids is conductive to starting a family business, like say a Restaurant
>>
>>3294599
>>3295170

Now see, I had envisioned him introducing aura healing to modern medicine as his career.

He has the ability to unlock abilities in others. If he can use his ability to unlock abilities to unlock the ability for others to unlock others abilities, then the ability to unlock abilities can propagate. Then, those people can unlock others abilities to heal, allowing aura healing to exist as a viable treatment.
>>
[Did you guys want to roll for things with Laki or have me decide what happens?]
>>
>>3295420
Rolling for things feels weird. You do you
>>
>>3295420
Honestly, you've got a good track record when it comes to this stuff, gobble. The less we let RNGesus interfere with this, the better. I trust your judgement.
>>
>>3295420
If we roll, then it’d make sense to roll for things like pregnancy complications, or what stage in her cycle she’s in, and I just don’t want that sort of thing.

And I don’t really know what would count as our bad luck kicking in here either. Since a pregnancy would add challenges, but having a kid isn’t inherently bad.

I think, to go in on the results of the vote, without just ending the journey and going and looking for a job to buy neonatal vitamins with and such, there are some good options.

You could take some time, I think, to explore what these three thought at the births of their three little brothers, and what their thoughts on having kids have been. I want to know what Hana’s plans were. Did she want to adopt? Foster? Surrogate?

Or let Laki’s next period come late and see how these three react in the mean time.

Or other third thing.

But yeah, no rolling. I don’t want to roll for medical things like that. Like, realistically, Herb’s in a new area around a lot of people and should probably catch some colds or flu as he adjusts to the local disease map, but that would get in the way of having adventures.
>>
Oh, I also wanted to point out that Hana joked about how she wasn’t on vispum birth control, but at the beginning of the quest, Keira gave her some to stop her period. So, not sure if you want to retcon one of those things or if it’s a butt or what.
>>
>>3295420
I trust you to make whatever happens fit the story.
>>
Oh yeah, and you can get womb transplants these days too. I don’t know if Hana’s a candidate for that.

Even if she isn’t, you can still induce lactation in a nonpregnant woman, which might take some pressure off Laki.
>>
Potential outcome: Laki doesn’t get pregnant, Hana decides to freeze some eggs for later surrogacy by Laki.

In fact, you can freeze fertilized eggs too. If she did that, so that they could have kids even something happened to Herb or his balls, it would be kinda like the three of them having a kid together now but with the actual pregnancy put off until later.
>>
>>3295170
>>3295219
I like both of these too. Why not all 3?
>>
>>3295886

>>3295420
I like the idea of us not knowing if we hit the target or not just like in real life.
>>
>>3295420
You decide, I'd eather not leave it up to random chance either way.

I'll just state for the record that pregnancy is most definitely not my fetish, and I'd rather not deal with that and all the complications it brings in-and-out-of-story. Apparently that's not a common opinion for some reason, but worst that happens is I take another break like when the whole Hana confession shitshow happened way back when.
>>
Honestly if we get a land grant for the invasive species island we can, set up a safari zone a restaurant and a aura clinic all at the same time.
>>
>>3296451
That's honestly what I'm hoping for as an endgame myself. Either that or helping reinstate/run the Normal Temple, though I like the Safari Zone idea better.

>>3295420
I'm fine with an executive decision here. Whichever one you pick is the story you'd rather write, and that means you'll write it best.

This might seem crazy considering which site we’re on, but it’s not just about fetishes. It’s exciting in general. Dealing with complications and drama can be fun when it’s in a story setting like this. Enjoy the adventure!
>>
>>3297043
I am, I just don't consider it to be an adventure I want to read about. Feels too much like dragging the real world in, if that makes any sense?

I also don't feel that anyone involved is ready for that kind of responsibility and... commitment? That's not quite the right word, but I feel like it would be the start of a countdown clock to the end of our travels, and think it's something that should wait until closer to the end, especially with Dark Fug on the loose and taking an interest in us.

Either way, fetish probably wasn't quite the right word to use, but it's the only one I could think of.

I am only like.... 95% sure that I'd have a joyful heart attack if Keira ended up in their relationship. Also can you imagine Keira getting some kisses from Hana, Laki, or Herb and saying to not worry about it as her facepaint starts running.

Thanks for running Gobble! Hope life settles down around you for a while at least.

Hey Gobble, whatever happened with the poison gym leader? After Herb forced her to talk things out with her brother, she agreed to let her mother set her up on a date with a guy. I was wondering how that went for her.

Location: Eelilee; near the festival grounds

You hadn’t intended to delay going to the festival until morning. You’re glad the others didn't seem to mind. Laki just kept you all night. Over and over and over again. You’re very thirsty, your pelvis hurts, you’re completely drained of energy, but despite all that you feel pretty good today.

Laki hums and bounces on her feet. You can’t recall ever seeing her this content and happy. Even Abigail looks like she’d rather get infected by the good vibes than try to get Laki riled up today.

Hana whispers and giggles with Keira, who has patiently avoided the topic of last night so far. There doesn’t seem to be a rush to press anything.

The outside of the festival looks exactly like what you’d imagine a fair in Loanah being like. There’s an assortment of game booths. Some of the games you recognize, some are completely foreign to you. The decorations are all heavily done in the different island styles that you’ve seen, as well as the ones you haven’t become familiar with yet.

“Lots of little kids.” Hana comments.

“It’s their day.” Laki informs her with a smile. “Different groups get a focus on different days. Today is the day for young children. It’s all about them. We can still enjoy the festival, but all the events today are focused on these cute little munchkins. It’s tradition that we do the game of advice at some point for them, but we can do that at any time.”

Abigail raises an eyebrow at how Laki’s acting, but says nothing. The mood is just too good to risk ruining.

“Is that a fortune telling booth?” You ask. “Can we go?”

“That would be fun! But that’s not a real fortune teller like at the temples.” Keira laughs. “That’s just someone who plays games and gives vague predictions. But some people believe in that stuff. The clergy is a lot more tolerant of that during the festival.” She thinks for a moment. “But I’m starting to suspect it’s because this is a time of levity and games, so it makes those practices seem less legitimate. Huh.”

“You’re awfully pessimistic today.” Abigail comments.

Keira looks shocked at the accusation. “I’m just...I have a wider view of things.”

You take out your pokedex and call up your sister as you walk to the booth and wait in line. Reception on Eelilee has usually been pretty terrible for you, but the signal gets through clear as day.

“Hey squirt!” She answers, almost as chipper as Laki. “How’s it going?”

“Lots!” You tell her with equal enthusiasm. It’s the kind of energy that only comes from being sore and tired. “You’re close, right?”

“...close to what?” She smirks.

“Oh, sorry. At the festival. We’re here too! We should-”

“Meet up!” She finishes your sentence. “I heard you had a girlfriend. I’d love to meet her.”

“‘A’!” Abigail laughs in the background. “Oh this is going to be g-” Laki puts her in a headlock. But it’s mechanical. She’s still beaming with positive energy as Abigail chokes between her arm and chest.

“I want to meet your boyfriend too!” You announce.

“I think you’ll really like him. You guys will get along great.”

You make arrangement to meet up. She’ll come to the at the fortune teller booth in a bit.

“One at a time, or is this a group fortune?” The woman at the front of the booth asks.

You look at the girls and get nothing but shrugs. They don’t seem to have any strong leanings.

“A group fortune sounds fun, doesn’t it?” You ask.

Laki smiles contently, seemingly happy with whatever happens.

“Yeah, that could be fun.” Hana says.

“It’s not real for...ah, what the heck. It *will* be fun.” She agrees with Hana.

“You guys have a weird definition of fun, but whatever. I’ve got nothing better to do.” Abigail says.

Gobble looks up at you. He seems excited. He holds the tent open for the other pokemon and ushers them in. The much larger Dice rolls in and lays flat on the floor, making an obstacle you have to all walk around. His tongue sticks out as he playfully watches you.

“Welcome!” A woman in a corner fortune teller’s getup greets you. “Please, close the curtain and have a seat. Quite the large group.”

“Not nervous about this many eyes watching you, are you?” Abigail challenges her.

“Abigail!” Hana gives the fortune teller and apologetic look.

“It’s fine. I get many skeptics. I’m positive I’ll be able to change your mind before our time is through.”

Your group gets comfortable as the woman relights some incenses and prepares her crystal ball. “Now, what is the first thing you wish to know?”

“You haven’t seen that already?” Abigail mocks, then covers the back of her head from a whap from Laki that never comes. Seeing that nothing is going to get a rise out of her, she seems to decide to tone it down.

“What we ask first says a lot about our state of mind.” She continues.

“When will we start a family?” You ask for the group.

“Together?” The fortune teller lowers her glasses. “You’re an ambitious young man.”

The Laki and Hana exchange looks. Keira avoids everyone’s eyes but tries not to smile. Abigail’s smug aura seems almost palpable.

“Hmmm, yes. Yes. I see something.” The woman begins her routine. “Oh? What’s this? A new one on the way.”

Laki’s head shoots right up.

“Yes. I see it clearly. A new life...a pokemon egg! One of you will receive one soon.”

““Lots of people get eggs at the festival. That’s an easy prediction. And he asked about starting a family.” Abigail retorts.

“Well, we can see what sort of trainer you are.” The women loses some patience and shoots back. To everyone’s surprise, that seems to silence Abigail as she reflects on her words. “But yes... I can look deeper...yes...hmmm.”

“What do you see?” Laki is impatient.

“You.” The woman points to Hana. “I see...an unexpected surprise. But not an unwelcome one, in the end. Yes, after much difficulty and doubt, I see you to be the first to start a new human family.”

Laki slumps a little. You can tell from her body language that she no longer believes the woman has any insight. But the woman seems to pick up on that. “You will be right after her. Yes, not even a week apart. Like sisters, a strong bond, you will have. As will your children.”

Laki and Hana might not believe her, but they seem to like that idea.

“Oh... and you, priestess. This is odd. I see quite the matronly aura in your future as well. Yes. A new family shortly after them.”

“R-really?” Keira smiles.

“Yes...this can’t be right. My apologies, I must looked into the wrong-...I’m unsure what to make of this. I’m sorry. Obviously that’s not correct. Please, forgive my careless speech. Of course there is no charge for this reading.” She gets up, looking confused.

Keira looks too surprised and swept up to say anything

She’s probably legit. If she was doing a cold reading, she’d have no way of knowing Keira was becoming a fertility priestess, and wouldn’t insinuate she’s break her normal vows.

The reading on Hana may either indicate the sort of IVF/surrogacy like I suggested, or adoption.

The Pokémon egg might be one of us receiving an egg at this festival, or us going to that breeder we met to stud out Dice. (Bella might too, but she seemed less sure about the idea.)

“Wait. We have more questions.”

The woman stops. “You still want a reading?”

You give Keira a nudge, and she finally snaps her head out of it. “Yes. Absolutely.”

The woman gives Keira a funny look. “I just...predicted you would become a mother.”

Keira snorts a laugh she’s been holding back. “It’s alright! I know you didn’t mean to imply I’m going to break my vows. It’s actually surprising how right you might be.”

The woman is more confused.

“I’ve just changed careers.” Keira tells her in a hushed tone, as if it were a secret. “Fertility priestess.”

The woman collapses into her chair in relief. “Hoo. Oh. Wow. What are the odds I...err, nevermind.” She gets back into character and adjusts her strange hat. “Alright. I suppose we can continue. Now, where were we...ah, young man. You... hmm. It seems you’ve already got a fine family going.”

Belladonna climbs up onto your lap just as she says that. You give her a pat on the head.

“Now, you.” She motions to Abigail. “I see a broken house. Mended, with hard work. The cracks still show a little, and the door and floorboards creek. But it’s home. It’s taken a lot of work. You spent most of your time repairing it from the outside, and but the inside is still warmer, and you come to enjoy it.”

Abigail says nothing. She just grunts and looks away, unsatisfied. Or uncomfortable.

“What will be our next big challenge.”

The woman scrunches her face. “You’ll need to be more specific. Challenges come in many forms, and in a constant flow.”

>>
>>3303583
It's just for fun, man. You don't take fortunes at face value. It's all about introspection. The fortune isn't important, it's not a glimpse into the future, it's about the person hearing the fortune thinking about what is important to them and them figuring out what they want to tackle next. No one, but you can figure that kind of stuff.
>>

She hit a couple beats which prove she has some talent. I'm more worried having her peek at our spiritual path might put her in the crossfire though.

So Hana hasn’t been using birth control and we’ve been having sex with her under the assumption that she can’t get pregnant... for a while. This sort of thing actually happens a lot. Keira’s time should be a week after Laki (ritual at the end of this 7 day festival) provided this is real. Wow.

“What’s our next spiritual challenge?” You ask.

“Oh? Now that’s an interesting question. Especially from young people. I knew you had a unique aura about you when you came in.” She butters you up a bit. Taking her time, she settles in and does a lot of humming and setting of tone before continuing with this question. It almost feels like she’s forgotten that anyone else is in the room when her arm shoots up and points at Hana. “You! You will have a difficult question of beliefs. You will be presented with a path you never thought possible. You will consider two very starkly different choices.”

“W...what do I choose?” Hana asks.

“I only see the challenge.” She responds. Her arm shoots to Abigail. “YOU! Your proud skepticism hides a fear of hope. Your challenge is simple, yet very difficult. You will have to believe.”

Abigail rolls her eyes.

“You! Your spiritual challenge rests with supporting others. Do you have the strength?”

Laki looks a little concerned.

“You...have passed yours.” She says to Keira. “What you have left is learning. At some points you will question your choice, but you will never regret it.”

Abigail mutters something about that being obvious and not a prediction.

“And young blonde man. You...” She turns pale. Her face changes expressions several times “I...”

I'm fine with this, but if she does have the sight she just looked into something really spoopy. the pancake question would 1) make her think we weren't taking her seriously if she is faking or 2) give it a bizarre comical bend that might lighten the spook factor also giving an aspect of our interaction with the entities that might clear up the vision.

You feel confused and unsatisfied. A lot of what she said about the group was more right than matching salt with pepper. But Abigail does bring up a good point. It happened so fast, but you’re pretty sure all the things she told you about your spiritual question were things she could have picked up.

Maybe you’re reading too much into this. “Thanks. Does anyone else have any questions?”

“How many children will I have?” Laki asks.

“It seems you already care for too many.” The woman responds, motioning to Abigail.

Laki smiles. “Alright, that was great. But seriously. How many?”

The woman looks. After more showy motions and noises, she makes an assessment. “Numbers are difficult. But you are motherly to many beings.”

Laki seems satisfied with that. She touches her belly as she settles down in a way that draws your eye a little.

Hana asks a few questions about figuring out what she wants to do with her life. She gets vague answers about discovering the answer was there all along and that she’ll see it one day.

The group finishes up and exits the tent. You’re temporarily blinded by the strong sunlight that your eyes must now adjust to again.

You force a smile, keep yourself together, and begin introductions. “This is Hana, Laki, Keira, and Abigail.” You say, taking the hands of Hana and Laki. “Oh, and Gobble, Mace, Belladonna, Dice, Sorbet, Ghost Pepper, Gardevoir, Cubone.” You go on to the other pokemon as well. When you’re done, you make the situation clear. “I’m dating Hana and Laki.”

“Uh, they both know?” She jokes. She looks uncomfortable. Especially as she looks over Laki. Still, she offers her hand. “Laki, right? Nice to meet you.”

“You too.” Laki says, almost as distracted by Max’s presence as you.

“So, uh, I’m not sure how to ask this, but how old...” She changes her mind. “Forget it. Sorry. Mom and dad didn’t tell me much.”

Laki doesn’t take offense or flinch. She just puts an arm around you. She reaches over and grabs Hana in close too. “I get it. This is probably a shock to you. He’ll always be your little brother in your eyes. To us, though, he’s every bit a man and a lover.”

Hana smiles, blushes, and looks socially embarrassed. She seems torn between wanting to laugh and wanting to hide. Abigail looks like she might buy popcorn from the nearby vendor, and Keira just smiles a big, happy, innocent smile.

Your sister looks more confused and surprised than ever before. It vanishes from her face when Max’s hand slips into her back pocket. “Herby-boy. This is a fun coincidence.”

No. No no no.

“Oh, you know each other?”

“We’ve met.” He smiles. It’s a horrible, terrible smile. "On the subject of lovers..."

NO NO NO!

Hana subtly pats you on the back as a way to let you know she feels for you.

Hmm, personally I'd just go fuck it and lay it all out, but I aint Herb. Seems like the most honest reaction here from him would be
>So, uh, let’s go find some games. I guess

While being ULTRA VIGILANT in how Max treats Herb's sis...Who I'm very annoyed for having forgot her name. Pretty sure it started with a J? But yeah, keep an eye out and later on have a talk with the sis, see how she feels about the dude and how she feels after knowing what their interactions have been like.

>>3303874
Thanks for running Gobble! Take your time, trust me when I say I understand that lewds take a bit more effort and time than regular stuff.

My only real criticism I can think of at the moment is more a failing on my part, can't remember character's names that we haven't seen for a while, the cast is huge and its a bit daunting trying to remember everything we've done or said.
>>
>>3303861
>Well she did ask, tell your sister about all the times you've met with Max. ALL of them. Yes even the grass temple incident.
>>
>>3303975
I know it's crazy to believe, but our sis probably will think we are off our rocker if we just start talking shit about her boyfriend out of nowhere. I don't think who Max is will come as a surprise to her, and if it does then Max has just done a really good job of being on his best behavior around her and she probably won't believe he is a dirt-bag.

It's kinda like how Laki's little brother felt about Herb. We'll just come off as mean and spiteful. I think our best course of action is just having a talk man on man with Max and tell him we will destroy him if he hurts our sister. Ultimately, it's her choice who she dates, so if we try to tear them apart it'll probably just make them want to be together more. We just have to stay in touch with our sister, give our honest opinions when asked for them, and try and be civil with Max even if we don't like him.

This is fun seeing these twos total opposite view of the situation.

I'm more in the middle. Max is a cunt, he hasn't earned any modicum of our respect. Especialy since his reaction to our sister announcing our relation he pulls his big dick womanizer shit.

Our sister is our sister, and we should let her make her own decisions; however those decisions should be informed ones.

Either way if Max talks shit to the moon I say!
>>
so What's Herb gonna name his kid?

I was thinking naming him after Herb's dad
>>
>>3304917
I think it’s a good idea to let her know that while we dislike his company, we are open to the idea that there’s more to him than we’ve seen. That’s why I’d rather we had pulled her aside than him. In the mean time, trying to get along with him is about respecting her.

>>3305124
have you not followed the quest for very long? Hes been a full on turbo cunt since we first met him. The one thing that's been constant is he's an unabashed womanizer and we laid out that we were done with his shit. So for him to start out being out of line earns him no good will.

This. I actually just reread our last interactions. Threads 81 and 82. He managed to make a complete ass of himself in the fighting temple, insulted all of the locals and our relationship, and tried to goad us into a fight in attempt to get a kiss from Laki/Hana. Keep in mind, he mentions already having a girlfriend (our sister) at this point. We’d be a shit brother if we didn’t tell her this.
>>
>>3305375
Great point. I do think that warrants pulling her aside, not him.
>>
>>3305390
Oh, I agree. Hell, that can be said in front of him too. It’s not like we don’t have witnesses. The only point in pulling him aside would be to tell him to stop disrespecting her in public like that. They just look like two foreigners that are getting excessively handsy in the middle of a traditional local festival on the children’s day. That’s pretty shitty.

I mean, sure, translate it into Herbspeak for a veneer of politeness.

But as far as what our words actually mean, I think I'm on point. Max may be the only being Herb legitimately hates, and now it turns out he's fucking Herb's sister? And groping her in front of Herb, at a festival for little kids? If Herb is calm right now it's only because he's passed through the eyewall of anger within the hurricane of loathing and is now atop the still waters of inexpressible rage.
>>
So, we don’t really think he’ll listen to us, nor do we trust him to answer us honestly.

So when we pull him aside, let’s just try to read his aura like we used to ask Jeaneane to do for us when we were Kat.

“We have indeed met.” You say as calmly and even-toned as you can. “Max, a word?”

“Oh great. That makes this simpler.” Joan says.

“Word.” he says with a smirk and finger guns. “Just joshin’ ya, Herby-boy. Let’s go have a word.”

Laki looks like she’s going to punch him before you can talk to him. That almost makes you relieved. You take him aside before anything happens.

“You look like you’ve got a lot on your mind.” He says with what’s probably not genuine concern. “Come on then, out with it. We don't have all day.”

Yeah, this sounds good.

“I know we’ve had our differences.” You begin.

“Color coordination being a prime example.” He motions to your shirt and pants.

“But.” You press on despite that. “I respect my sister and her choices. I’m willing to start fresh, forget about everything that’s happened between us and let go of any grudges.”

He raises an eyebrow. “What sort of trick is that? Are you afraid I’ll tell her about your crossdressing hobby?”

“I mean it.” You try to keep your gosh-darned temper down. “If you’re willing to show you actually care about her.”

He looks suspicious. His eyes dart between yours. For a moment, his expression softens. He looks relieved. But that doesn’t last long. His eyes narrow and he comes closer. “Heh. Alright.”

“Good.” You move back a little. “Glad we had this talk. And Max?”

He turns, annoyed. “It's Maxi-”

This time you invade his space. “If you hurt my sister, I’ll break your fucking legs.”

What did you just say? He looks even more surprised than you are. You can’t believe you just did that!

Without a word, you both turn back and head towards the girls.

“Hey babe.” You sister gives him a sweet kiss on the cheeks. It looks like she was just getting back from a talk with Laki. “You alright? My little bro here didn’t scare you, did he?” She laughs at the thought.

He gives a different kind of laugh. As strange as that moment was for you, it must have been a lot stranger for him. You almost feel like apologizing.

Laki and your sister have a weird energy between them. Laki takes your arm and puts on a big smile. “So, there’s a lot of stuff to do today. Do you boys feel like winning us some prizes? Giving advice to the kids? -Could be good dad practice.-” She mutters out quickly. “Find some battles? The big competition isn’t today but there’s still lots of people who do competition battles. Or regular ones. Or even busking.”

“I love the festival!” Keira explodes with energy, half-running in place. “Come on! We’re wasting time! We only have a week!”

“Let’s find Valerie!” You say, planning on checking out some of the food after.

“Another girl?” Your sister mutters under her breath.

“Uh huh! She’s my best friend!” Hana says, but quickly covers her mouth. “I...Laki, you know what I m...it’s not.”

“Oh. I see how it is.” Laki says in a mock-angry tone. “Ha! Relax. I understand. Abigail here is my best friend.”

“I’m not sure who that’s sadder for.” Abigail stretches.

“I think she’s going to be pretty busy.” Hana says.

“We’re just saying hi.” Laki assures her. “Come on. Learn to impose a little.”

Hana agrees silently, and the group moves to the area where the big competition will be. There’s a huge tent, and inside is a maze of partitions that cut it off into rooms. Eventually with some asking around, you find Valerie brushing her Herdier.

“Hana!” Valerie shouts. “Omigosh! Why didn’t you text me?”

“We wanted to surprise you. I know you’re busy, bu-”

“I’m never too busy for you guys!” Valerie says, giving most of the group a quick hug. She’s introduced to your sister and Max, but doesn’t really have anything to say to them.

Her father, and the man in charge of the company your mom works for, comes in. “Valerie, I’m afraid I must be- Oh. Hello.”

“Papa! You’re not going yet, are you?”

He looks over your group and doesn’t respond to the question. “Priestess.” He bows to Keira.

She giggles. “I’m a fertility priestess now. It’s a lot less formal.” She doesn’t expect him to know how all of that works.

“Yes. I’ve heard. Keira, Herb, you’ve been making quite a splash lately.”

“You heard about that?” Laki asks.

“Papa spends all day dealing with the bigwigs around the island these days. He doesn’t have time for anything else.”

“I’m afraid our work has been keeping me busy.” He says. “But enough about me. Is everyone hungry?”

Valerie stops brushing. “Really? You have time to eat?”

“Yes. I’d love to hear about your travels.” He says to the group, looking at you. “Come on. My treat, everyone.”

“I’ll tell you all about what I’ve been up to, sir.” Max says. Jacob doesn’t seem to have heard that.

The group goes to the nearby area with all the food vendors. There’s so much, but you’re sure if you take your time eating and inspecting the food you can get some ideas for your own cooking.

“Is...is that sign right? Poison food?”

“Most Loanan cooking is poison.” Abigail says, drawing a guilty quiet chuckle from your sister. Max follows with a laugh too after he’s dragged out of his thoughts. He seems distracted.

“It’s made from poison ingredients.” Keira tells you. “But it’s safe to eat. It’s all in how it’s prepared. It’s a secret.”

Oh. Oh! You need that! “I’ll take that!”

“Wow, you’re sure, squirt?” Joan asks.

“Soft Hands isn’t a squirt.” Laki comes to your defense unnecessarily. “But that is risky.”

“Nobody’s died from it in over six years!” Keira says. “I’ll have some too! It’ll be fun.”

Everyone orders their food. Laki gets an awfully big plate, but you guess after last night she’s hungry. Jacob pays for everyone, and even insists on buying for the pokemon. Gobble naturally eats the same thing as you. You notice a few of the ingredients they have around the booth, but you’re not sure how they combine them.

You take your first taste. Hmm. Not bad. Really good, actually! You concentrate on figuring out how exactly this is done from the taste and texture.

“So what have you been up to?” Hana asks Jacob. She’s doing that thing where she forces herself to be more outgoing. You admire that about her. She’s always trying and pushing herself outside of her comfort zone.

“Well, like my daughter’s said, I’ve been spending my time with the people of power on the islands. Business is business, after all.”

“You make it sound so cold.” Keira says.

He sighs with a nostalgic smile. “Truthfully, and I hope you’ll forgive me for saying this young Keira, but I prefer the company of the other islanders to the high ranking clergy.”

She giggles. “I understand completely.”

He looks very relaxed. “It’s a shame.”

“What is?”

“I...oh, just the way business works sometimes. I shouldn’t talk about it. But I’d love to hear all about your journey, Keira. How did you decide to change from a Ghost Priestess? I understand you’re quite the prodigy. You had a real career ahead of you doing what you were doing.”

She tells her story, emphasizing your role in influencing her. A lot. Your sister and Max listening makes you feel awfully exposed for some reason.

“Fascinating. You’ve really been changing things on the island, Herb. The temples have been taking note.”

“We all have.” Max says. “For the better.”

“How do you feel about that, Herb?” He ignores Max. He makes it look so easy.

Herb does go out looking to make changes, he just encourages them where he sees they're needed.

It’s a lot of eyes on Herb, apparently.
>>
“Oh, well, it’s not intentional. I’m just being me.” You say, not really wanting to be the subject of any sort of controversy. You try to put your thoughts back to this food. What is this spice mix you’re detecting? You’re positive this was slow-cooked, but-

“But it is happening.” He presses. “You, me, we’re people that represent more than ourselves on the islands. Things are changing fast, and that’s making a lot of people uncomfortable.” He sips his drink, looking at nothing in particular. “A large part of my work is easing that discomfort.”

You look around the table. Most of the group besides Keira are all talking amongst themselves. You try not to be too distracted at Max’s hand being positioned where it might be on your sister’s leg.

“A young man like you, earning shards, making an impression in temples and gyms, going around influencing priestesses and taking...girlfriends.

“Are...are people really talking about me?”

“Well, not exclusively, but you have become the default example in some discussions. You’re an influencer. There’s already talk about loosening how the Ghost Priestesses are trained and what they’re allowed to do. The worry is, as you’ve demonstrated, mainlanders don’t show them the difference they need to maintain discipline.”

Keira shifts in her seat.

“Well, maybe some things should change” You say. You’re glad Keira was able to experience new things and decide her fate.

He plays with something around his neck. You can’t see it under his shirt, but it’s probably some sort of amulet or necklace. “It’s not a perfect place, but it is unique. Doesn’t it deserve to be preserved by that virtue alone?”

I don't really know all the answers, but even so, I don't really think it's my place to dictate what the islands do either way."

He considers your words. “You don’t dictate it. You just change it by being you.”

“Well, maybe. I don’t know. I just want to cook and enjoy my life. But I’m just saying maybe not everything needs to be preserved. Like cultures that sacrificed people and pokemon at the top of pyramids. Being unique didn’t make those worth preserving.”

“We don’t sacrifice anyone.” Keira says. “Well, Kontote might have, a long time ago. But we stopped that.” The realization of what she just said hits her, and she goes back to eating while she thinks. You want to do that too. But you’re not done making your point.

You continue. “The islands have changed by themselves and will continue to do so.”

“So the change is positive?” He inquires cooly, cutting his meal with a knife and fork properly.

“I’m not saying things should change for the sake of change either. Lots of bad stuff has happened when people have gone down that path. Things should...just be done in the best way that makes people happiest. It’s all about finding the right ingredients and best way to put them together.”

He smiles. “Sounds simple, doesn’t it?”

Keira looks into her bubbly, sugary drink. The kind her parents were probably never exposed to. “Yeah.”

He smiles to Keira now. A soft, warm smile. “I’ve been to many places around the world, set up local headquarters, and made sure business could operate smoothly. I’ve seen people and places all embrace the same, indistinguishable, consumer-city model. Differing only by the language the signs are printed in and the faces on the money. But I’ve never seen a place quite like these islands. So...different. I don’t believe that has to be the fate of Loanah. Not here. Not again.” He plays with his necklace a little.

You and Keira both exchange a look, concerned about Jacob’s speech and tone.

“Do you have a necklace under there? Can I see it?”

He stops looking at nothing. “Oh? Was I fiddling with that again?” He takes it out. It’s a small, golden locket. He opens it up and shows you a picture. “Valerie’s mother. Sweetest woman you’ve ever met. I miss her every day.” He sighs. “You two should cherish your time together. Young love is precious.”

Keira fidgets. “We’re not...uh...like that. I mean, maybe we w...I don’t want to give...” If it were a simple matter she’d just correct him, but since Laki left things yet to be decided, she has no idea how to react. “It’s not exactly like that.”

“Ah. Sorry to assume. That’s just the rumor about your change of profession. I should know better than to believe things like that.”

Keira looks stressed and worried after hearing that.

Despite how awkward the other subject was, you figure it’s better than this. “About what you were saying before, with the islands not needing to change. Can you go into more detail?”

He looks suddenly alert and awkward himself. “Hmm? No. I’ve been babbling too much. Working too hard, my little Valerie tells me. Stocks would free fall if shareholders heard me going on like that.” He gets up. “Well, enjoy your time at the festival. I must be going.”

Valerie, who was chatting with Hana as they both laughed at Dice and Ghost play around, puts her attention back on Jacob. “You’re going already?”

“I’m afraid so, pumpkin. Good luck in the contest.” He gives her head a kiss and leaves.

She sighs. “Yeah. Thanks.”

You put what’s left of your meal away into a container. You’ll figure this out when you can concentrate. You’re positive you’re just a small insight away from getting it.

“Shouldn’t you get back to practicing before your big show?” Hana asks Valerie.

Hey, can we take a look at unpacking some of that at the end there?

The way I had understood things, Keira didn’t really need to do any waffling there on the status of our relationship. Helping her long and hard isn’t a question of whether or not we’ll have a romantic entanglement, just whether or not it’s a favor we can do for her.

The waffling makes me think she either is conflating sex with love some, or more likely, was flustered and couldn’t think of a phrase that would be both accurate and discrete on the spot.

Also, on the earlier subject, I’d say Keira is our best friend.

...We should probably tell her (and Jane) about having FOUGHT the GP.

Shes kind of left in emotional limbo, is she our friend is she more. She Loves us, but she doesn't know if we Love her. Does that even matter since she probably cant act on it. Either way she doesn't want to presume anything. So the statement was kind of a critical hit.

Also Im only half joking since we are totaly capable of nonsexy massages but I wonder if Hana told Val that there even are non-sexy aura massages and the confusion it would cause. not sure how much we've talked about it to her.

See, I had thought it was clear and known that they loved each other, non-romantically, as best friends, and they were just deciding on if it’d be “with benefits”.
>>
>>3312478
Ya in our small group. Jacobs statement suggested he thought they were in a relationship and that among the elders that was how it was seen. It's been clear since the start of her rediscovering of herself that she has wanted more then just friends but was content with what she had learned about herself and being just our friend.

Then we cocked that up by saying in essence "We can totally still ceremonially bang" when what he thought we were saying was "I'll make you a nice meal, and give you a foot rub. Topping everything off with a pep talk before your big day." Then Laki suggested that maybe she could be taught the secret handshake to enter the Herb fan club officially. So a lot of things are up in the air at the moment.

Laki's #1 objection to Keira entering the picture is that she wants kids, she wants them first, and she wants to be special. Herb has *vigorously* addressed these concerns, so while she hasn't outright said "we'll talk about bringing Keira into the harem" I think it's very likely that she's open to the idea. We know Hana approves, Keira and Laki get on well, and Keira has good chemistry with Herb. Barring player disapproval or harem comedy misunderstandings (don't you do it Gobble) I see no reason it shouldn't happen.
>>
“Let’s do the advice exchanging tradition.” You say. “And then...hey, is that a house of mirrors?”

“Oh!” Keira claps her hands together. “Yes! Mirrors, mazes! It’s so fun! I remember being younger and sneaking away from the group one time and hiding in there. You’ll never have that much fun being lost!”

“Great! Let’s do that after!”

“Oh man would I like to get lost for a few hours.” Valerie says, sounding a little stressed. “Let’s do it!”

“It’s a good idea to do the Tradition of Advice first, then.” Laki says. “Before it gets late.”

“How does it work?” Your sister asks.

“It’s simple. You write down a piece of advice that you learned the hard way in life, and those are given to the younger children. They get to learn from your mistakes, so each generation is better off than the last. Then, you explain a problem you have to an older person, and they give you advice.”

“Why don’t we get anonymous advice like what we give to the little kids?”

“Because problems just keep getting more complicated the older you get.” Abigail says. Keira shrugs to show that Abigail’s cynical take is essentially right.

“Awww. That sounds nice. I love little kids.” You sister says, causing Max to look a little more uncomfortable.

Your group goes to that area, where signs explain the tradition again. Apparently needing signs is new because the islanders seem confused that anyone needs it explained.

You have your pen and paper, and a table to write on.

What advice do you want to give to an anonymous Loanan kid to have?

You write down your anonymous advice. You decide on a two parter. That’s allowed in the rules, right?

“Always be direct in romance. And with pokemon, remember that they can take a lot time to let you earn your trust. But it’s always worth it.”

Satisfied with keeping it brief, you give the folded paper to one of the volunteers putting them in little baggies that include a few sweets and small toys. You’re then ushered into a small booth. There’s just a stool and a table there. Then, after a moment, a middle aged woman comes in with a cup of steaming tea.

“Well now, young man. What’s something you could use some advice on?” She says with a smile. “Don’t be shy. There’s no judgement here.”

Hey Gobble, we use Mao/Moon/Candela/Zinnia/Lily/Misty to represent the girls in broad strokes, how accurate are the eye colors and hair color/style for those? How have everyone’s tans progressed? You know, I don't think this is the first time somebody's talked about people talking about Herb. I think a good bin would be to show us some of that first-hand. I'd really like to see what sort of impact we're having on people like that.
>>
>>3317658
[Eye/hair colours are a bit iffy. I don't see any reason to deviate from the designs on those too much, though.

I imagine Laki's hair a bit more like Korra after the haircut, growing out a bit from the shorter hair she started with in the Candela design. I also picture her more in less stuffy clothes. She didn't initially like showing her body too much, but she's grown more comfortable and embraced her feminine aspects like she's making up for lost time. Not enough to put too much effort into her tank-top tanlines, though.

Hana I see as getting much more comfortable in clothing, too. She's in a good place with her body, but still feels it can make other people uncomfortable or feel bad for her and she doesn't like that. She's become more open in it both in dress and attitude by just making jokes to put people at ease. She's the least tanned out of the full-blooded Loanan girls, but still got darker than she was before the start of the quest. Like Herb, she's adapted. She's liking skirts and stockings, and feels like she's got a way of holding them in place down pat, finally. She used to do only pants, but now that she's gotten used to this she can't go back.

Keira's combination of facepaint, masks, body paint, and other coverings has left her pretty pale too, despite being the person in the group who hates clothes the most. Her paint art has had a lot less focus lately, but now that she's committed to a path she's going to do more creative designs. She's unsure about revealing her face despite no longer needing to hide it. Still, she's been more willing to trust just masks during downtime and in camp. She's also looking forward to experimenting more with dresses. Fertility priestesses' usually wearing loose and flowy things, but there's no real dress code. She wants flowers. Lots of flowers.

Abigail has managed to avoid tanning for the most part using mystical ginger danger-instincts. Still, she's not immune and has managed to get some light ones. She wears loose, spaghetti strap tops and likes torn fishnet on her arms and legs, but that's also where the light tanlines happen and she feels a bit silly because of it. She'd never admit it but thinks Polu's leather jacket is the coolest and wants one too. She can't find one that doesn't look like an oversized trench-coat on her, though. And the heat is too much.

Valerie tries to stay as untanned as possible. She doesn't like to admit it to herself, but her super pale skin and blonde hair get her a lot of attention. She dresses almost exactly like the art.

Herb is looking more and more Aussie as time goes on. But prep-Aussie. His hair is getting a bit shaggy, which would normally never happen.

Jane is getting a good tan from training outside all day. She's also been trying to even it out and make it perfect, just like her hair. She likes practical clothes and is going so far as to develop a taste for jumpsuits over a bathing suit for ease of travel and swimming.]

>You feel like too many people have too many expectations of you

The other choices all feel like things Herb actually has a pretty good handle on, aside from the one where it won't be believed and probably isn't a good idea to talk about with a random person.

I feel like “Always be direct in romance. And with pokemon, remember that they can take a lot time to let you earn your trust. But it’s always worth it.” is the sort of statement that can be misinterpreted really easily into something I don't think Herb intended to say.

>>3321116
Hana prefers skirts because they're easy-access, doesn't she.

Also I think she should repaint her artificial limbs to be browner and call it a spray-on tan.

Still hoping she can eventually get a set of legs that would let her swim again. Maybe as a present from her moms? Also wondering if she ever got a firmware update for her new robo-arm to let it do the vibrating thing that both she and Mace liked (albeit presumably for different reasons).

It would be really amusing for Abigail and Valerie to bond over the difficulty of maintaining their complexion in the face of the Loanan sun.

Keira I think might always retain some small amount of face paint in public as a way to remember her roots in the Ghost Temple. And probably would keep in practice with the full pattern just in case she needs to temporarily perform her old duties again.

If Herb is going full Aussie, does that mean he's going to get one of those hats with corks dangling from it? And on the subject of shaggy hair, is he actually needing to shave regularly now or is facial hair still not really a thing for him?

Jane, well, I just had the amusing idea of her having a practical jumpsuit/swimsuit ensemble that's what she normally wears and then a set of outfits calculated to throw off different types of opponents. Something skimpy to distract people who are attracted to her and make people underestimate her as a vapid bimbo, something traditionally Loanan to confuse people who would expect a more mainlander fighting style and enrage either side of the anti-miscegenation crowd, something professional trainer-ish for fights where she wants to ensure she's taken seriously, and so on and so forth.

Laki... actually, one thing I can think of that might have been related to her body issues is that I don't recall her being described as fully naked in any of the lewdbins. That might have changed by this point, at least on the occasions where it's just her, Herb, and Hana in the room. For somewhat less lewd thoughts, she might start wearing dresses and stomach-baring outfits more frequently to start getting used to them before she eventually gets pregnant and needs to switch to them by default.

I've just finninshed grass temple arc and am surprised that was over a year ago already. That and that Abigail still feels like shes the new one in the group even though she's been in more threads then not.

So many subtle foreboding and possible dark portents that I missed that seem to suggest that the islands are undergoing some sort of uncomfortable change. Out of season migrations, normally friendly pokemon being agressie, the most recent being the gyarados being in shallower water. is a spoopy. That or the islands are going through an awkward teenage phase and cool mom Herb just has to make sure the pizza rolls are stocked up for the growing archipelago.

Re:Hana
I think the easy access is just a bonus.

We’ve discussed swim parts with Hana before, but her parts that are internal and don’t attach would still weigh her down. A Float Stone (a held item which halves the holder’s weight) might work though.

And if the paint is removable, why not use it for sick tattoo designs instead? Just painting it skin color is an option, but I don’t think hiding that she has prosthetics is something we should suggest.

And the arm isn’t new. It was updated to not vibrate so that it doesn’t damage itself.

Thanks, Gobble! That bin was full of great lewd and so honestly heart warming moments. It's good that Laki is being more honest with Herb, Hana, and herself. I feel like she's on the road to happiness for sure!

Yeah, for some reason I was just thinking of the bins where we had an audience. Bit of a whoops on my part, but can't go back and edit posts on 4chan so there's no fixing it.
