It’s been three days since you lost everything you had.

Your name is Alfred Brown.

You are a modest man, who wants to be left alone and live a modest life. You’re 18 years old. You got your high school diploma with no honors. But more importantly, you took over a little convenience store from your father after you graduated. Everything was looking up for your life.

You were the proud owner of “Brown’s” for a record time of… 3 weeks.

The story goes as follows:

A jock cityboy came into Laoling and decided to get rid of the local mafia. Said he was liberating this town from their reign of terror. The kid has been around for like… a month.

But the dumb shit decided to have a massive fight with them outside of your little convenience store, then inside of it – and they destroyed everything. And it’s no exaggeration, it was everything! Even the building collapsed! Only rubble remained. Collateral damage shouldn’t be this big!

The worst part? It wasn’t even the first time they did something like that! It’s like, he wanted to fight in your store like it gave him some field advantage or something (he did win all of those fights…)! It was so bad, your insurance was revoked after the 3rd renovation!

And you know what’s the real worst part?! When your father heard the news he died of a heart attack! Now he’s with your mom in heaven. Not the retirement he was expecting…

At his funeral you decided to avenge your dad! That damn kid. Whatever-his-name is is going to pay for what he did to you!

[DAY 01/SUNDAY]

…But he seems like tough shit. If the mafia can’t take him, can you…? You have no training, barely in shape and there is no way you can get a weapon – not counting firearms are completely illegal.

It’s a bright Sunday morning! You’re currently in your small apartment.

Technically the funeral was a few days ago; you have been too depressed to move, or shower… or do anything. But that changes today! Today you leave this bed!

You have your laptop on your lap and you’re eating from a can of the food you were able to save from your store’s rubble. You don’t have much money in your pitiful savings, but you can survive the month without any problem with what you have. Getting extra funds would be useful.

Your time as a modest man has come to an end.

What do you do today?

>You need to identify your target first! Go out and search for information about this violent kid around town.
>All good revenge plans need funding! Go search for a new job and get some money in your pocket!
>You must look like a mess. Maybe you should take a shower.

You must look like a mess after days of being willingly locked in here, not counting you must stink badly…

You decided to take a shower! Sadly no hot water for the unemployed. You went in and out pretty quickly. You used to enjoy hot showers until you lost everything thanks to that guy! More reasons to hate him.

After a successful short shower, a quick shave and putting on clean clothes – you’re ready to start scheming your revenge!

You need some money though, all good revenge plans need funding! It’s time for a Job Hunt!

After quickly glancing through the internet using the shitty apartment’s Wi-Fi, and remembering some offers you got from accountancies at your dad’s funeral, you have some options!

Which one do you pick?

>Undisclosed Job from your next-door neighbors. Probably something related to sewing. They are nice people so you don’t expect something bad.
>This is coastal town, so you could try to be a fisherman. Seems like a tough job though…

(Sorry for the big delay.)

Your neighbors were kind enough to offer some help when you were feeling down at the funeral, so you want to repay their kindness. Besides they live next to this small awful apartment building.

They are an old couple who have lived in this town for years, and were good friends with your dad.

You arrive to the old but cozy Neighbor’s house, you promptly knock on the door. Berenice (The wife) opens the door. She’s a 59 years old woman who, for all you know, has been a Housewife all her life – and, in surface level, a very caring person.

“Lil’ Al! Oh my! It’s so early!” She happily welcomes this surprise. “Do you need anything my dear?”
“Hi. I need a job and you two said you could give me one. I need some money.” You respond going straight to the point as always.
“Uhm, it’s just a little thing you can help me with. Please come in!” She opens the door wide for you to enter.

The house is tidy and cozy, the furniture looks old but well kept, and it’s not overly decorated like so many old people’s homes you have visited. You like it for what it is.

After rejecting a cup of coffee from her, Berenice guides you to a room with 3 sewing machines, a little radio and a bunch of clothes piled up; it looks like a place she works in frequently.

“Well, my husband went to work! So it’s only me and my little entrepreneurship.” She shyly points to the clothes she made. “It’s a little thing I do for fun and townsfolk seem to like them! I know it’s not your typical man’s job, but I would like some help. I can teach you how if you don’t know too! I’m planning to pay you for your time’s worth. What do you say?” Berenice seems a little desperate for help.
“Sure.” And so your new job began.

Most of the day you spent learning the dark arts of sewing, until you were competent enough to actually help. Also she made homemade lunch, you kept some of it for later. It was delicious.

Yes!

Fighting Stats are for combat. Combat’s rules are going to be explained fully when we get to one, but they are going to be extremely dice dependent. And all stats (except HP) are dice modifiers. So keep that in mind!

HP: Hit Points
STR: Strength
DEF: Defense
EVD: Evasion

Passive Stats are for day to day activities and help Alfred succeed to do various things.
Not only that but certain prompts will require dice rolls, next to these prompt there will be a stat specified. The more leveled up in this category, the more dice rolls you will get.

FIT: Fitness.
CHA: Charisma.
KNW: Knowledge.
COU: Courage.

You politely decline her offer, she has been far too kind to you today and you don’t want to overstay your welcome.

“Oh that’s fine! You did a great job today, so don’t hesitate to come here to help tomorrow! Take care, lil’ Al.” Benerice rubs your arm as a sign of affection. You nod back and go your merry way.

As you were walking back to your apartment, you ran into her husband Mr. Boris. You two had a small exchange of words, he seems glad her wife is getting help from you. He said something akin to “both of you need it.”

You’re back at your apartment, you change to your tracksuit and decided to do a little cardio around the neighborhood – more exactly to the Yellow Field Park. You need to get rid of these unnecessary “lovely” calories. Whatever-his-name is hasn’t been around the park to fight ever, good place to keep your mind out of bad thoughts.

The silent dark night of the countryside made it easier for you to focus on your task, even if jogging isn’t particularly exciting. One part of you thinks you should do more than this. Real training.

With your little cardio exercise done, you earned +3 Fitness experience points! Your Fitness level remains at 1, but you feel like soon is going to level up.

Tired, you came back to your apartment, you took a quick shower, ate some canned food and went directly to sleep. Too tired to do anything else.

It felt good to do something with your day for a change.

[DAY 02/MONDAY]

It’s Morning, you have things to do! Your body feels a little tingling sensation from last night’s jogging. But that doesn’t matter, you will go through this day. You will have your revenge… eventually!

But what first?

Before making a decision, you clean your apartment. It’s so small it didn’t take you long! Now you feel like moving on… to vengeance! First, you need to identify Whatever-his-name is for you to stick to a routine. You will investigate around town.

While you know he’s just a brat, you can’t go into any of the high schools around because you don’t want to come out as creep. So the best thing is to go to a place he usually frequents…

The remnants of your store.

You take the same old short bus trip you always took before and arrive in matter of minutes. If your body was in a better condition, you would have walked – but hey it’s only a 1 G-Buck fare.

At the bus stop, it is possible for you to see the Butcher Shop “Lord Meat” has been completely destroyed too. You can’t see your store from here.

You walk a little to see the destruction that remains more clearly, seems like a Hobo has made this his place to live! How dare he?! This is your homeless spot…!

What do you do?

>Investigate the Butcher Shop. Perhaps you will find another disgruntled owner who is willing to lend you a hand.
>Go to whatever is left from your shop and tell the hobo to leave! It’s sacred land!
>Ask around about what happened. You came here only for information about that bastard.

(Sorry, I counted the votes a bit earlier.)

You decided to investigate the Butcher Shop. Perhaps you will find another disgruntled owner who is willing to lend you a hand! You know what they say, vengeance unionizes people!

Seems like the exact same thing happened here, the work of him. Between the rubble, you see some kind of counter with a big sign on top that reads “Lord Meat.” On the counter, there is a bunch of sealed meat that has obviously gone bad, the butcher Jean-Loup is sitting behind it and he’s fanning the food with his... fan. You approach him.

“Hey kid, want some meat?” A deflated Jean-Loup asks, he can barely keep the façade of him being okay.
“Who did this?” You know the answer, but maybe he can spit out his name.
“The same shitstain that destroyed your store, kid.”

“And his name is…?”
“Aleister Price.” The butcher is annoyed at your question. “How the fuck don’t you know him? Everyone is talking about that bastard!”
“I didn’t know his full name.”
“Oh… That’s fine, I guess. You buying the meat or not? You name the price. I barely give a shit anymore.”

Ehm… Do you do?

>Give him 5 bucks and ask him if he knows anything about the kid.

“What a bastardly name...” You give him 5 G-Bucks. Aleister Price, huh?
“You can say that again!” Jean-Loup is in a better mood now. “Thanks kid. I appreciate it.”

He hands you the meat. You take one just to be polite. They smell awful…

“Do you know anything else about him?”
“He goes to OLIR (Our Lady in Red High School), you know way south from here. Why he bothers to come here to destroy our peaceful neighborhood is a mystery to me. I tried to complain to the school, but no cigar. I should have gone straight to the cops instead. Too late to do anything now.”

“Maybe you can spread awareness of youths terrorizing ma and pa shops.” You deadpan.
“Eh… People are already moving their shops away from here. It was just way too late for both of us, buddy. I’ll let you know if I hear anything else about that dumbass.”

“It’s never late for a good beat down. I’ll give you 5 extra bucks if you got a spare meat tenderizer that I could use to bash his knee in.”
“Sorry pal. I’m planning on rebuilding my business. I’ll take a big loan out and try my luck elsewhere. Hope to see you at King Meat, good patrons get a discount.” Jean-Loup grins. “But give him a good punch for me, fucker deserves it.”

You’re happy you managed to lift his mood.

You decided to deal with the homeless man in your property.

If there is something you learn from your limited time as a store clerk it is how to deal with a homeless man. You just need to make them feel they got something good out of your exchange with them. These people want to feel like they are still winning at life, even though it’s the exact opposite… At least that’s what your father told you, and it worked most of the time.

You approach the trespasser.

“Could you please leave this spot and never come back?” You go straight to the point.
“Who are you to speak to the D. DAZZLER like that?! This is my spot! I came here firsssst! You stupid human! Hisssssss!” Oh no, it’s one of the crazy ones!
“I’ll give you this piece of meat if you do.” You show him the Expired Meat.

The Homeless man appears to be interested, he approaches you like some sort of wary caveman and snatches your Expired Meat away. He gives it a good sniff and realizes something is up…

“You think I’m stupid…?! THIS IS RAW!” D. Dazzler is not happy with this deal.
“There is a homeless spot downtown next to the Super Foods; they always have a bonfire on and you can cook it there.” You explain to the homeless man.
“Fine… But I’ll come back if your words are untrue!” The homeless man takes his stuff.

“Wait, before you go, you know a guy named Aleister Price?”
“I do not, young man.” He keeps sniffing the meat.
“Could you ask your fellow homeless men about it?”
“I could. But us, los Iluminados, won’t work for free. If you want anything from one of us, be prepared to pay us accordingly.

The Homeless man runs away. You felt like you learned and gained nothing from this exchange. At least your soon-to-be vacant lot is freed.

What do you do now? Your morning is over.

With the information you have gained so far, you feel comfortable with having a routine until you feel like it’s time for the next step for your revenge. But do not forget it.

Aleister Price is a wannabe hero who takes matters into his own hands, disregarding everyone and everything around him. There are proper ways to handle evildoers set by society, and by skipping them all and just deliver random punishment, he’s no better than the criminals he’s persecuting.

That’s without even putting into account the lives of innocent people he ended up damaging too.

That’s too much self-righteousness for now. You should to go to work with Berenice!

After a quick bus trip, you’re back! You head straight to the Old but Cozy Neighbors’ house. You knock on the door just like yesterday, and the old lady opens the door! She seems very glad to see you again.

A couple of hours of work passed by, and Berenice decided it’s time for lunch! You were waiting for it. You two are eating Lovely Homemade Lunch together at the dinner room. Like yesterday as well, she made way too much, so you are planning on saving a portion for later.

“You have made so much progress in so little time! Not even my daughter learned this fast!” Berenice is pleasantly surprised with your efforts.
“I don’t want to feel like I’m taking advantage of your kindness, so I’m here to impress.” You assured.

“Lil’ Al, don’t think like that! You’re really taking a big chip off my shoulders, before I got so tired I didn’t have energy to cook anymore. Now look at me!” She cheerfully gushed as she does a little dance while still sitting on her chair. “Uff… Enough of that. I can feel you getting embarrassed.” She goes back to eating. “I know the perfect way for you to change your mind though. Tell me your favorite meal and I’ll have it ready it for you tomorrow. Eh? How does that sound?”

Yeah, how does that sound?

>“I’m fine. Thank you for your offer though.” You don’t know if you’re going to work here tomorrow.
>“I’m already eating it.” It’s kind of truth, this tastes great to you.

“I’m already eating it.” You lift your bowl of food.
“You’re so sweet!” Berenice is smiling from ear to ear! “But no need for flattery! I don’t look like it, but I know a thing or two about cooking.” She looks like she knows a lot about food though. “So please be frank with me!”

“I’m not kidding Ms. Berenice, I could eat this for the rest of my life.” It’s that or canned food, and it’s probably the easiest decision you could make in your life.
“There are few things in my life that give me so much joy than someone really liking my food. It gets me all giggity! Thank you!”

After that, the conversation went to other mundane topics until lunch break was over.

With that little joke, you made her day. You feel like the rest of the day is going to go smoother! You learned more about the dark arts of sewing as you continue to help her with her commissions.

You got 60 G-Bucks for working the rest of the day with Berenice. You also got some Lovely Homemade Lunch for later.

The sun is setting. Berenice said the door is always open for you if you want to enjoy dinner with her and her husband, but she doesn’t want to feel like you have to – so this is the last time she will openly ask it.

Revenge doesn’t allow having so many cozy moments with very kind acquaintances.

So what do you do?

Aleister Price must go down no matter what. And for him to do so, you need a game plan. He has overwhelming strength and dexterity, but you’re moved by something stronger than a cheap sense of justice: Vengeance.

He must be out there right now fighting a stupidly chaotic battle, destroying a poor man’s store amidst of it all.

You are going to look around town for him.

But first, you’re going to hide most of your belonging inside your apartment. Just in case you get jumped by hooligans. You say goodbye to the kind Berenice and leave.

Now you have only 10 G-Bucks and your father’s shitty phone with you and nothing else. Some money for the bus fare and some more if you feel like buying a drink. Anyway, you’re already traveling to the remnants of your store.

You get back to your homeless spot and find nothing so far, the tranquil nights of Laoling remain as peaceful as always.

Out of the blue, you start hearing trouble! Near a Liquor Store you hear the beginnings of a confrontation! You decided to hide in an alleyway between 2 buildings, peeking to see the action.

A forgettable-looking delinquent is threatening a forgettable-looking businessman! The delinquent has his knife pulled out and the poor salary man is searching for money in his briefcase.

All of the sudden, Aleister Price appears and runs towards his opponent!

“So you think you’re a tough guy just because you have a knife?” Aleister Price sassed as he already grabbed the delinquent arms with ease and took his knife away. You have no idea what type of martial arts bullshit is that. “So are you one of them?”
“W-who are them…?” The delinquent naively asks.
“Don’t pretend.” Aleister doesn’t seem to have any patience for him as he stabs the delinquent in the arm with his own knife! Then Aleister kicks him in the face as the delinquent was staggering from the pain. “Here, have your knife back. Now go and tell your boss that since they aren’t willing to come for me here anymore, I’ll have to go for them myself.

AAAAAaaaaah!” The delinquent shrieks in pain as Price leaves the scene casually.
“W-wait, you are leaving him like that?!” The salary man is confused. Price doesn’t even bother to answer. He didn’t give a shit.

What do you do?

>Keep following Aleister Price from a distance. You need real intel!
>That’s enough for you. Leave! You don’t want to be seen here.

We should go find a dark shady alley where we could contract a shadowy figure to gain power and became a magical boy.

It's perfect for revenge and very foolproof too.

[Combat Rules]

-It’s Turn Based combat.
-The Objective is for your party’s units to incapacitate all the enemy’s units.
-To incapacitate a unit you need to drain their Hit Points (HP) to 0.
-Other ways to win is by your opponent surrendering or escaping the battle (You can do the same, but you obviously lose.)

-Turn Order is determined by how the Battle began in story. Otherwise whoever has more FIT points is the first attacker and so forth.

For example: If you sneak attack someone you are first! But if you get sneaked attack, you go last...

Combat is divided in 2 phases:

First Phase

The Attacker decides what action to take between these 3:

-Attack: Select an enemy target and throw the dice to see how much damage you do to it (dice faces depending on the attack). Opponent has a chance to mitigate damage or evade it all (dice dependent as well).
-Item: Use an Item you have. Effects vary on the items. These don’t require dice rolls.
-Escape: Throw the dice, the higher the number the higher the chances of escaping. Opponent has a chance to keep you in battle (dice dependent as well).

Second Phase

The defender responds with the following actions depending on what the opponent chose:

If the Attacker Attacks:
-You can either select “Defend” or “Evade”:

—Defend: You roll the dice, the damage you receive is the attacker’s roll minus the roll you threw, if you manage to surpass his number, you will still receive 1 damage regardless.
—Evade: You roll the dice, if your number is higher than the attacker’s number; you get to dodge all damage. Else, you suffer it all.

If the Attacker uses an Item:
-You don’t do anything.

If the Attacker escapes:
-You either select between “Chase” or “Don’t Chase.”

—Chase: Both the Attacker and you throw the dice, if you get a higher number he won’t escape. Otherwise the fight is over.
—Don’t Chase: Automatically the opponent escapes. You win by default.

After the two phases end, the roles change between the players and so on (The once defender gets to be the attacker, and viceversa.)

Fighting Stats and You

Each individual character has Fighting Stats, each one of them (Except HP) help the dice rolls as modifiers! For each point you get an additional point to your dice roll. Rolls won’t go to negative numbers, the least you can have is 0.

For Example: You have +1 in Attack and you rolled 3, you do 4 damage!
Another Example: You have -1 in Attack and you rolled 2, you do 1 damage…

STR: Adds to your Attacking and Chasing Rolls.
DEF: Adds to your Defending Rolls.
EVD: Adds to your Evasion and Escaping Rolls.

Before you go, you make a brief call to 911 and told them there’s an injured youth near the liquor store – you told the businessman help is coming then you chased after Aleister Price (within a considerable distance.)

Aleister has been running around directionless for a while now, he’s searching for any evildoer he can bring justice upon. Vigilante justice is as dull as you expected it. But credit where credit is due, the streets seem fairly calm so far, and he may be responsible for that.

Your pursuit leaves you at the entrance of another dark alleyway, close to an old family restaurant named The Mad Grove. They serve great seafood in there (They close Mondays).

Out of the blue, Aleister puts an end to his objectiveless chase and turns around. You’re hiding behind a pair of the restaurant’s large garbage bins. Each of you in a different end of the alleyway, he slowly comes closer.

“For how long have you been chasing me now? Why don’t you grow a pair and face me already?” Aleister taunts. He caught you so soon already…? Honestly, it was a matter of time; you (thankfully) have no in experience stalking people.

You decided to remain silent, as it could be a complete misunderstanding.

“I know you feel comfortable around garbage, but you’re the best thing I’ll get today – so come out already.” Aleister jeered.

Against your better judgment, you decided to stand up and face him. He seems mildly disappointed.

“Uh, you don’t look like you work for them. But you look like a creep nonetheless, so I’ll beat you up.” Aleister cracks his knuckles.

Wait, that’s it?! That’s the only reason why he’s going to beat you up?! You try to reason with him for a second, but he pretty much ignores you…

You’re getting into a fight you’re not prepared for.

Aleister Price is cocky enough to let you move first…

(I made a mistake in the rules. Chasing and Escaping Rolls aren’t tied to STR or EVD, but FIT. Worse than that, I didn’t take either into account for the entirety of this fight – so for sake of fairness I decided to stick with what I was doing only for the rest of this fight.

But next time both Chasing and Escaping Rolls are going to be tied to the FIT stat as their modifier.

I’m sorry if I caused any confusion.)

---

((6-1)=5…. That’s should be enough, right?)

You attempt to escape once again! You’re running with all your might! You cannot possibly run faster than this! You don’t even remember when you ran this fast before, probably a personal record!

But it doesn’t seem to matter, Aleister is matching your speed – he’s going to grab you again!

With some quick thinking, you took a trash can lid and threw it under Aleister feet – he gloriously trips into the ground!

You successfully Escaped! Congratulations! You lost this fight, but not the war!

You ran so fast, you don’t remember at what point you lost him, and now you feel even safer riding the bus back home. You have a bittersweet taste in your mouth, on one hand you got all the information about him you wanted – on the other, you ran away from the man you want to inflict revenge upon. To make matters worse, he’s even a worse person than you originally thought.

Perhaps you need to analyze the ups and downs of this fight in the morning. For now, you need a good night’s rest…

Your muscles gave up as soon as you opened the door to your apartment; you jump on the bed and called it quits.

Escaping like a coward granted you +2 Fitness experience points! Your Fitness level is now 2! Congratulations!

Yes, sadly he’s totally out of your league, but it doesn’t mean you can’t make your way to the top! You just need guidance from an expert, a stereotypical wise old master with a big beard who knows martial arts.

Bad jokes time are over, back to reality now. It would be good if you looked up in the internet about a place that teaches self-defense, it’s going to be quite troubling to find a real gym in this town – this place is not known for anything but fishes and rice farms.

You dive deep into the web, at a snail’s pace, thanks to your free Wi-Fi, you took your time to find some places that can help you:

Even though you were getting use to your cooking knife stabbing that bastard’s face against the wall, it is a product of your damaged state of mind after you got the news about your dad, so it’s better if you take it out. See it as another sign of a new beginning. Where did you get that photo anyway…?

The knife might work as a weapon, or a cooking utensil. Up to you really.

Still, your decision hasn’t been made regarding your training. Working within your means is something you have to take into account, perhaps you should go for the cheapest option…

If only there was something akin to a fight club, completely free and great for venting as well.

Guess Karate Classes are on the menu now. Sadly you can’t go right now, Karate starts after school is over. You need to go later.

So, that leaves you with nothing to do right now.

Quite disappointing really.

Well you want to make something out of this uneventful morning, working with Berenice seems like a good way to gain extra funds for your training project. Then you will start the operation to get stronger! But first you will take a shower and eat breakfast.

Afterwards, you arrived at the old but cozy neighbor’s house. An energetic Berenice gives you a warm welcome. She’s moving around like she’s 20 years younger, at least she said so herself.

Her husband, Mr. Boris, is invigorated as well at the sight of his wife being so lively again. Before leaving to work, he thanks you for keeping up with her. You respond to him you haven’t done anything special, and that you have been here just for a couple of days. The man told you to learn how to take a compliment in playful manner.

You spent most of the morning harvesting good results from your ability to sew. Berenice seems jubilant about having done one and a half weeks of work in 3 days. Lunch Break is quickly approaching and you have an idea in mind: You politely requested her to teach you how to cook. She gladly accepted.

At her kitchen, she showed you how to do her Lovely Homemade Lunch – now she’s expecting you to follow her receipt.

“So what do we do first?” Berenice asks overflowing in enthusiasm.
“…We go for the pork?”
“Yes and no! First we roll up our sleeves!”
“Right…” You do as she said. To your surprise, she seems horrified.

“…Wha-what happened to your arms, little Al?” You forgot your arms got bruised up badly after the savage barrage of punches from Aleister. They look way worse than they actually feel though. Her maternal instincts are acting up.
“T-this… Uh…”

What’s your excuse?

>“I got into a fight.” Be honest, but don’t tell the full story.
>“I feel down the stairs.” A lie good enough not to warrant her to worry more.

“I got into a fight.” You stoically answer. “More like ran from a musclehead trying to look for trouble…”
Berenice gently grabs your arms and gives them a check. “Do they hurt…?”
“Not really. Otherwise I wouldn’t have worked all morning.”

“I didn’t even notice, I had my mind in the clouds again…” She briefly belittles herself. “Thank you for being honest with me, little Al. I know it’s not something you can brag about. B-but are you completely sure you aren’t hurting? I can patch you up.”
“Yes I am, ma’am.”
“I’ll do it anyway!” She storms off somewhere else and comes back with a First Aid kit. You wonder why she asked then.

Berenice carefully puts bandages over your bruises with a level of delicacy you never seen before. Does a mother’s touch work on someone who isn’t her children?

“You’re so careful…” You comment on her skills.

“Well my husband use to get into many fights when we were much younger, he had a knack to get himself in trouble. That happens to all men who practically make the bar their second home… Fight, after fight, after fight. I got used to it, I always patched him up – made sure he was ready for the next one. Even if I didn’t want him to continue…” You cannot help but to think: Yikes…

Berenice shakes her head, and continues patching you up. “What I’m trying to say is I know it’s something many men pass through – so it makes me feel relieved you tried to avoid it. And don’t worry about Good Ol’ Boris; he left all that behind him years ago when our daughter was born. Now you’re ready!”

“Thanks.” Now the wounds bother you less.
“Just keep this talk between us. My husband doesn’t like to talk about those years, even though he was damn proud of his many victories. Now let’s go back to cooking, shall we?”
“Sure.” You smile.

You learned how to do Homemade Lunch, it’s not lovely yet – but one day you will learn! After lunch and thanking Berenice, you left to start your new venture in the world of martial arts.

You gained 60 G-Bucks for your efforts. And now Berenice is open to patch you up if you get hurt for free. Try to not get too broken for her to be of help!

After a decently long bus trip, you’re here at OLIR High School in the south part of town. You have no previous knowledge about this place, as you attended one of the rival schools. (Go Red Salmons!) Classes just ended as many students are leaving the facilities.

“Hey, Allie!” To your displeasure, you hear an obnoxious voice from the past. It’s Margaret Duchemin, better known as Maggie, an ex-high school classmate of yours. She’s gossipy, loud and self-centered. Last thing you heard about her is that she didn’t graduate thanks to her bad grades and had to change schools. It seems she ended up in this one. “Hey, it’s me…! Hey, hey, hey.” She’s poking your back with each hey.

What do you do?

>Ignore her and go inside immediately. You came here for the Karate.
>“Could you stop that please?” Ask politely.

>Hey QM by the way re guns legal in this place or not?

Guns are illegal. One of the worst crimes in this country is having a gun.

>Where is the setting of the quest?

In the small coastal town of Laoling. It is in the beautiful island country of notAsia. (I will give it an actual name later if necessary.)

Without going into many details, notAsia was a colony that kept changing hands between powerful nations (there were many battles and wars to decide it), that ultimately gained its independence democratically less than a century ago. The place is a mixing pot culturally thanks to all that.

“Hey Maggie, how are you?” You have some time to kill waiting for students to leave.
“Hohoho! Finally your majesty acknowledges my presence! I was getting worried I got the wrong guy! Don’t ignore me like that again, you hear me?” Maggie got slightly offended.
“I’ll take it as you’re fine…”
“Fuck my life, you’re supposed to say I hear you back! You’re still as clueless as ever, man! I’m going to keep poking you for that.” Maggie starts poking your upper arm now, doesn’t seem like she’s going to stop soon. You wonder if she doesn’t have anything better to do.

Maggie was the school’s gossip before, maybe she still is in this one. It’s a decent opportunity to get some intel.

“You know anything about a guy called Aleister Price?”

Maggie stops poking you and her demeanor changes as well, like someone stole her soul. It’s a mixture between emptiness and anger.

“I hate him…” A quiet whisper comes out of her mouth full of rancor. Maggie quickly snaps out of it and goes back to her bitchy attitude. “Yeah, I know him. He’s a wealthy city manchild who thinks he owns the place. What about him?” It’s like she never said that she hates him.

What do you say now?

>“Did he do something to you?”
>“Nothing. I need to get going, see ya.”

Maybe the local mafia is erasing his tracks because they don't want to admit they are losing to a high schooler.

>“Uh, you don’t look like you work for them. But you look like a creep nonetheless, so I’ll beat you up.” Aleister cracks his knuckles.

>“So you think you’re a tough guy just because you have a knife?” Aleister Price sassed as he already grabbed the delinquent arms with ease and took his knife away. You have no idea what type of martial arts bullshit is that. “So are you one of them?”

(Sorry for the lateness, online discussions are serious business.)

“So do I, he’s going around destroying building in his one-man crusade against the local mafia. Even destroyed my dad’s convenience store.”
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! This is huge! You gotta send me some pics! Oh! Or a video!” Maggie is sadistically grinning from ear to ear. “Now all of these damn kids will know how much of a piece of shit that rancid square-faced bastard is.”
“I saw it happen twice, but couldn’t record anything because the brute actually destroyed my cameras every time.” You were in 2 of the 4 catastrophes which weren’t as major as the last one, talk about bad luck... Somehow you left unscathed, unlike your store.

“What shit luck. Couldn’t you sue him? Forget I asked, you probably don’t have any money after what happened.” Maggie gets a little closer. “I heard he was transferred here because of his track record. This school practically accepts anyone! Eh?” Maggie giggles. She didn’t see the irony in her statement.
“By the way. Did he do something to you?”

Maggie goes back to her soulless state, you can feel the anger. She goes back to normal again as quickly as she turned. This is odd.

“It all started weeks after he transferred, I don’t know who lied about me – but these unfounded rumors of me being this remorseless gossipy bitch got to him. So for some reason, this brute felt compelled to confront me about stuff I never did, like telling everyone Stacy was pregnant and dumb shit like that. By the way, of course she’s not pregnant, she just got fat. You know Stacy, right? Black hair? No?” Maggie is expecting an answer. You just shrug. You never attended this school, how are you supposed to know?

“Anyway, he grabs my hair and tells me to apologize to everyone I hurt, one by one. Of course I told him to fuck off and to let me go! He got really mad, and took my phone and threw out of the window. Then said something like: “You won’t be able to spread anymore lies now.” then he let me go. I felt awful… Nobody treated me like that before… But that wasn’t the end of it all.”

Maggie wants to keep talking about her traumatic experiences. But it’s time for your Karate Lesson. You have a weird feeling she’s going to follow regardless if you try to ditch her or not…

What do you do?

“So yeah, funny thing, I’m taking karate lessons so he won’t be able to one shot me immediately. Wanna come with me? Or better yet, join up?” You briefly suggested in midst of her pause.
“Uh… I’ll go with you, I guess.” She got a bit startled.
“Please go on with what you were saying.” You start walking towards the School GYM. “I’m all ears.”

Without missing a beat, she continues her tragic tale.

“Yeah so I told the school what he did to me, but they couldn’t do anything without me proving it. I guess my smashed phone didn’t count for anything! I know they didn’t do anything ‘cause Price’s parents gave money to the school to renew the GYM.” She points to the place you’re going with fury!

“But I wasn’t going to let this bully get away with it, so me and the girls started our operation to find dirt on the guy. We found a lot of stuff. Like one time he beat up one of his teachers who was blackmailing one of his students almost to death, and almost killed a gang who terrorizing a mini market and more...! Man, the city is scary as hell. But you get my point; he’s a big asshole even if he’s pretending to be good. So like I told everyone in school! That guy is dangerous and shit! But then…”

You two are now inside the GYM at the reception. It appears you are going to use the basketball court for Karate. While she continues talking, you register for your lessons with one of the receptionist.

“…Aleister confronted me at lunch in the cafeteria, in front of everyone – like I made all this stuff up and I should apologize. I told him hell no and all of this was true. His goons started booing me. Thanks to all that I can’t stand kids this age anymore – I find them so immature. I don’t know about you, but they look kind of gross, right? Wait, where was I…?” Maggie is just one year older than the seniors here…
“You getting booed.”

You are sitting waiting for your Karate master to arrive.

“R-right. He… like said if I didn’t apologize now to him, he will give me what I deserve. I was actually scared when his goons started pile around me; I froze and didn’t say anything. Then… Then… Aleister spit on my food, then g-grabbed my head and p-plastered my face all over it...”

Okay, you weren’t expecting that at all.

“…Then he poured a bunch of k-ketchup on the back of my head…”

Now it’s getting ridiculous.

“…Then when I l-lift my head, he took a bunch of pictures of me with face covered in po-potatoes. Everyone around me was la-laughing. I swear I’m not making this up...”
>>

Uhh… Her story is going off the rails a little there. What do you respond?

>“After meeting him in person, I completely believe you.” Your story sounds more insane than hers! Of course what she is saying is true!
>“So you’re saying this whole thing happened during lunch and no one did anything? Not even one teacher?” Doubt her a little. This story came out of nowhere and you know she likes gathering sympathy.
>“Aren’t you making this up…?” You don’t believe a thing now, before it was plausible but now it’s too much.

“So what are you going to do about it?”
“Huh…?” Maggie is taken by surprise.

“He humiliated you, right? What are you going to do about it?” You stare directly into her eyes. She’s really taken aback.
“W-what can I d-do…? I tried to tell the school but they don’t wanna listen to me. He’s wealthy and built like an ugly ass brick wall. After what happened the girls now suck up to him and his goons. My parents don’t give a shit! And no matter what I say nobody believes me…”

“So?”
“What do you mean so!? You should be saying stuff like ’cheer up, Maggie’ or something! Get a grip! Don’t you understand I’m completely useless?!”
“So are you joining Karate or not? You could learn to be useful.”
“…I learn Karate then what, genius? What ne—?”

You interrupt her. “We get our revenge.” You stand up. You need to go, otherwise you’re going to be late for the lesson. Maggie has an expression like she just received an epiphany “Are you going or not?” You asked once again.
“…Sure.” Maggie nods and follows your lead. “I wanna stab his face if that’s okay with you.”
“Sounds lovely.” You reply.

Strangely enough, Maggie joins the Party!

You gained +3 Charisma Experience Points for getting a new party member. You don’t feel like you’re close to leveling up.

Party members can be trained as well, and each one has something unique under their sleeve to help.

To be able to have your Party with you, you need to call them. Each character has their own schedule, but all of them are available at night. If they are not with you for an event, you can call them regardless – but you don’t know when they are going to arrive.

Maggie is too lazy to set up a team schedule or something, so she’s leaving it all up to you. She gave you her phone number.

Maggie is available all the time since she doesn’t mind skipping classes and her parents don’t care either way.

Together, you two went to the Karate Lesson. Sadly, Maggie asked you to pay her fee; she said she’s totally going to pay you later. You had an introduction lesson with Master Pete. He’s a pretty relaxed guy, even though he has the appearance of a walrus. You two did a decent enough job at learning the sacred art of fighting.

You gained +3 Fitness Experience Points for training here. You don’t feel like you’re close to leveling up.

Master Walrus asked you to bring the necessary equipment next time, he only lets this pass the first class. You will need to buy it if you want to keep going.

It’s Night. Maggie is still in a good mood even after training.

Master Pete requested you to have the Equipment necessary for Karate. You need some Fighting Gloves and a Karate-Gi for both of you, you tell Maggie about your intentions. Maggie tells you the Giants Sport Store is nearby and it’s the only store in town that sells that kind of stuff.

You politely ask her to tell you everything she deems important about Aleister Price that could be useful for your revenge along the way. She matched your expectations accordingly and reveals important parts of information about Aleister Price:

-His objective is to get rid of the local mafia by whatever means necessary.

-He actually lives alone in this part of town (Southern One) in a fancy and expensive apartment near the mountains and close to the sea. The security is kind of lax, but there are cameras everywhere. Also the view to sea from his apartment is magisterial.

-Aleister is often seen out during the night, regardless if he’s going out for fun or to fight. Even though he’s a minor, he’s often seen at the Bar near the beach.

-Even though Aleister has his own goon squad at school, he seems to be only tight with one of its members: Vender Duus. Supposedly, he always changed schools with Aleister when it happens. Unlike Aleister, he doesn’t seem like a particularly strong guy – maybe the reason why Aleister always fights alone.

There are other types of information, but they have to do with his preferences in color and clothing – but you don’t care about that. But that doesn’t stop Maggie, this girl really loves to talk.

After spending a good amount of cash on your gear, you’re left with 2 G-Bucks. Maggie once again promises you to pay her share. Even with this setback, you offer to accompany Maggie to her home. To the surprise of both of you, you live close by.

You two take the bus ride home. One G-bucks remains in your savings…

“Isn’t this like, random as hell?” Maggie comments, of course she can’t stay shut. “You offered to team up to beat a guy and I accepted, and here we are…”
“You could say that, yes.”
“And you’re not worried I’m going to bail out after this…? I know what type of girl you think I am, mister.”

“Meh, if you do, I’ll have to plan another revenge on top of this one.”
“Haha… Tell me you’re joking, Allie.”
You remain silent.
“T-that’s not funny…! P-please…! I’ll behave, I swear! I’ll bring your money too! P-pleaseee!”

After leaving Maggie at her home with her new gear. You went back to yours to finally rest for the night… You ate a Lovely Homemade Lunch before calling it quits.

First, you call Maggie and told her you two can’t make it to karate today because you are broke.

Maggie is greatly disappointed, more so because she wanted you to have some plans with her now so she can have an excuse to skip classes. You remind her Karate lessons are after classes, so she wasn’t going to have one anyway and the reason you’re in this predicament is because you had to pay for everything yesterday. Maggie told you once again to get a grip!

After a few seconds of silence, Maggie apologized for being bratty and ungrateful. You accept her apology. Before hanging up, you told her to pay attention to her phone just in case you need her. Maggie remarked that she’s always on her (new) phone.

Next thing on your list is to raise funds. So you’re working with Berenice again today, you’re starting to like this routine. You go to the old but cozy neighbors’ house for more work to do.

Things go smoothly at work, even to the point Berenice jokes that thanks to you two all of Laoling is going to have a warm winter. With so many sweaters made, you cannot help but to agree. The fundamentals of the dark arts of sewing are coming easily to you now.

During lunch, you had another cooking lesson from your neighbor. You again failed to do a Lovely Homemade Lunch, but Berenice is saying you’re making progress! You don’t feel like it’s true. For few instances, you saw her checking your arms – she didn’t forget yesterday.

Before leaving, you said you didn’t want to pry but you wondered where is Berenice’s daughter, aside from photos hanging around – you have never seen her. Berenice explains she works in the big city and she only comes back in the holidays. That explains why she felt lonely before.

You got 60 G-Bucks for your work, and one Regular and one Lovely Homemade Lunch.

Well, it’s afternoon.

Having Maggie as part of the operation has proven to be really expensive, and revenge is not something you are going to skimp costs for. You need to obtain more funds, a new part-time job is the only solution – You’re going to pursue the fisherman job.

You take a bus trip to the town’s dock and go to the job’s address you got from the internet. You apply for the job, and get instantly hired since they are short on men. You’re going to partner up with another guy to catch shrimps and squids – the toughest marine life to catch around here for reasons you’re going to find out. The sad excuse of a boat you’re going to use already gives you a bad sign.

Your partner is a small burly old man with a big beard. “I’m Kong Bo, you?”
“Alfred Brown. They told me you’re going to teach me what to do.”
“Indeed. But be warned, newbies don’t last in this job. We search for delicacies, the strong squid – the best squid.” He jumps on the boat. You wouldn’t do that if you were him.
“…and shrimp, right?” You go on board the sad excuse of a boat.

“No. Only squid, all the other small boats bring shrimp. We get squids.”
“Right, you’re the expert.” There is a sinking feeling in the back of your mind, you feel like you’re forgetting about the squids here. You began rowing the boat and follow Kong Bo’s instructions.

Now you remember what the problem is! The squids here might as well be fucking krakens! They’re huge!

Thanks to Kong Bo’s expertise, you managed to survive and catch 2 giant squids. Surprisingly, this shit boat is able to withstand the weight. Kong Bo was not happy with your efforts. After going back to land, you help move the merchandise inside a truck to finish this work shift.

You earned 40 G-bucks for risking your life for seafood. Also earned +2 Fitness and +1 Courage experience points! You’re mighty close to leveling up for Fitness, but there is a long way for Courage.

Before trailing off somewhere else, you ask Kong Bo where does he sell his catch.

“I strictly provide to Ishikawa’s as per the restaurant request.” Kong Bo replies with some air of disdain for you, like you’re not even good enough to eat there. That’s the world renown restaurant of Laoling; it’s so good, people travel here just to get a taste of the food – and despite its fame, the prices are affordable.

You decided to check out the bar close to here “The Drunk Baboon” for information about the local mafia. The place is decently filled up, mainly by your coworkers. You decide to sit up by the counter and ask for whisky. Your father liked to drink that, so why won’t you?

“Here is your Magnum Melbourne.” The bartender hands you your drink. You take a quick sip, you like the taste.

But this isn’t why you came here! You want information!

“Cheers, man.” He smiles back at you. “Uh, do I know from somewhere?”
“Not sure. I use to own a convenience store until it was destroyed, maybe from there?”
“You were the “Brown’s” owner? God damn, I just hit the jackpot! You were the last one I needed to find.” He’s now excited. “Can I ask you some questions? I’m a journalist and I’m chasing after something that’s going to blow up everyone’s minds!”

“Like what?” You casually ask.
“The covered incidents by the Price Family, and the possible connection to the Min-Hu Alliance. You know one of the richest families of the whole country!” He’s so excited he can’t keep it down.

“Sir, I’m going to advise you not to pry on other people’s business.” The bartender suddenly interrupts and looks dead in the eyes of the journalist. “It’s for your own safety.” Sounds like a threat.
“Meh, ignore him.” The Journalist didn’t even bat an eye and turns back to you! “Name’s Wessam. I’ll buy next round if you help me.”

Wessam’s waiting for your answer. If he’s an outsider, he won’t be much of help.

What do you respond?

“Let’s chat outside.” You drink the rest of your whisky, pay for it and leave.
“Roger that.” Wessam does the same as well.

You two leave the establishment and walk away a few feet from the building and began chatting.

“Thanks for doing this.” Wessam takes a notepad and a pen out.
“Before we start, how do you know about me?”
“You know Jean-Loup Reid? He told me about you and the others affected.” That’s the butcher.
“Yeah, I do. Ehm… Go ahead.”

You answered all of Wessam’s inquiries about everything that happened to your store and Aleister Price’s involvement and even what his motives are. You also confirmed your assumption that the Min-Hu Alliance is the local mafia.

“The kid Price is trying to get rid of the Min-Hu just for chivalrous reasons. Match the information I have. Still hard to believe he can do this all on his own.”
“He has a lot of screws off.” Understatement of the year.

“That sets it. Always good to have more evidence to back this stuff up. Thanks again. And don’t worry; I won’t use your name in the article.”
“I was wondering if you could help me out too. Do you have any information on the Min-Hu Alliance?”
“Of course I do. In the middle of town, the biggest building called 17th Office, that’s their base. Tried to sneak inside, couldn’t. A shame really, I wanted proof they were the ones tampering all the evidence of their fights with the Price kid. But one part of me thinks they aren’t.”

“Thanks. Why are you doing this anyway?”
“To get a scoop! I’m trying to uncover something big, something against the Prices. A connection between the Prices and the mafias was a huge one, but every day seems more unlikely. At least, I’m the only journalist with the balls to go against them, so I’m going to get the scoop anyway. And if I get their son to stand in trial – I’ll take it as a complete victory.” He smirks. “I’ll see ya around, man. If I find anything to incriminate Aleister or the mafia for what they did to your store, I’ll call you.”

Now it’s pretty damn late. You went back home to take a good night sleep.

[DAY 05/THURSDAY]

Another day, another struggle. It’s early morning, so you cannot go to learn Karate. But maybe you could do something else.

What do you do?

Even if you aren’t a fan of giant squid monsters, you think fishing would be like extremely deadly morning training. First you prepare yourself for the day like always, packed some Lovely Homemade Lunch and then go!

You arrive at the town’s dock, and the moment you locked eyes with Kong Bo, you knew you had no other option but to accompany him again in monster hunting.

“You don’t fear the squid. The squid shall fear you.” Kong Bo said before arriving to the danger zone in a way to encourage you.

Even if for a second you thought he was right, the giant monster squid proved otherwise – he didn’t give a fuck about you or Kong Bo. The Squid is a creature that knows no fear. And it looks even scarier in the bright morning.

Your partner managed again to slay two of them, and you came back to land unscathed physically, but not emotionally. The squids leave on the truck and your shift is done.

“Pathetic.” Kong Bo again is disappointed with your efforts. You miss Berenice…

You earned 40 G-bucks for risking your life for seafood. Also earned +2 Fitness and +2 Courage experience points! It’s imminent that your Fitness level is going to raise, but Courage has long way.

What do you do now?

This is the result of your hard work! More hard work to do! Time for Karate Lessons! You set up plans with Maggie for her to be there as well. You think it would be appropriate to call Berenice as well, you do so and apologize for not being there and tell her she shouldn’t worry, even though you’re fighting giant squids.

“Aww, lil’ Al. You don’t need to apologize! You don’t need to come here every day if you don’t feel like it. Besides it’s my entire fault if old silly me gets worried over nothing!” Berenice might say that, but she sounds so happy to hear you she most likely was worried to dead. “And there is always a less stressful job here for you to do! Just be careful out there and take care! And… uh… the door is always open if you need anything!” What a nice family they are.
“Sure thing, you and Boris take care as well. Bye.”

With that settled, you go to OLIR high school for Karate!

Maggie was waiting for you at the gate; she looks like a sad puppy for some reason. You ask her what’s wrong.

“Here…” She hands you 7 G-Bucks. “That’s all the money I had, sorry if it doesn’t cover everything… I forgot I spent it all in this phone. If I remembered, I wouldn’t have said those things.”
“I wasn’t expecting you to pay for anything really.” Reason why you took both jobs and it seems like it was the right call. But you’re pleasantly surprise.
“Uh?! What do you mean by that?! You think so little of me?!” She’s upset you expected her not to pay.

“I mean I wasn’t wrong.” You hand her 7 G-Bucks back. Maggie takes them back but looks hurt. You get why. “Maggie, the gesture was more than enough. Just imagine everything was a gift or something. Let’s go.”
“I’ll make it up for you somehow…” Maggie follows your trail. “Ehm… by the by the, why do you smell so funny…?”

With your equipment on, you two go to classes. The other students are close to your age, but there are a few exceptions. The human walrus Master Pete is deceptively fast and precise with his movements, each movement counts in the heat of the battle. Maggie seem to be working hard to not let you down again. You feel like you’re learning more about the secret art of fighting.

“Hey Maggie, you look unhappy. What’s wrong?” You ask her while you two are walking towards the main gate.
“Uh, I, ah, eh, uh… I’m j-just tired.” Maggie is surprised; it seems she didn’t think you would notice.
“Tired enough to not do anything? Because I was wondering if you wanted to do anything now, even though it’s a little late.” The sun set just a few minutes ago.

“Pffft… This is late for you? Like, are you serious? You sound like my aunt, so old-fashioned. Or maybe like a baby, wait babies just whine – you don’t whine like at all. Anyway, you know there are like 3 types of sleep patterns for people; and I’m totally a night owl or something. You might be an early bird if this is late to you.”
“Maggie, concentrate. What do you want to do?”
“I’m very concentrated, Allie…! I’m just buying time to think where to go. Uuuuuuuuuuh... I know! Follow me!”

You took the bus together to the beach. She dragged you to a little fast food cart run by a guy who looks like a sleazy failed rapper. Maggie buys 2 shrimp tacos, one for each. Goodbye 7 G-bucks.

“Try it. These are like mega delicious, and that’s a tall order for me to say! I ate them every day until I got food poisoned once.” You didn’t need to know that. “C’mon, it’s a joke! Eat it!” It didn’t sound like one.
“Right…” You give it a decent bite. Kind of salty.
“Awww, you flinched! You didn’t like it, right?” Maggie seems disappointed.
“…A little too salty.”

“Yeah, Martin overdone it. He tends to do that. I should’ve known better…” Despite her comment, she has no problem eating it. “I’ll cook something for you next time! You won’t be disappointed!”
“You cook?”

“So rude! Of course I do; I’m not as bad as you think I am! Also coming from someone who looks like only eats frozen food, your comment kinda hurts.” Maggie deflates after a little spark of anger. “You should’ve said that sounds lovely like that one other time. Remember?” That time made sense though, she told you she wanted to stab Aleister’s face. “Ugh… Now I have that square-faced bastard in my mind again… Forget it! Let’s go somewhere else! This place is not going to disappoint!”

Maggie drags you to a little arcade. It’s closed.

“…It’s usually open, you know?” Maggie is obviously disappointed.
“I would imagine. Yes.” That’s how you run a business.
“This is a total bust. Fuuuuuuck!” Maggie scratches her head. “Nothing goes right anymore! AGH!” She’s overwhelmed by her frustrations.

What do you say to your frustrated Party Member?

“Since we have nothing better to do, mind showing me what your cooking is made of?” You ignore her little burst of emotions.
“You mean like right now…?” Maggie is so surprised; you took her out of her own thought process.
“Let’s go buy the ingredients.”

You went to the nearest convenience store around, that awful nation-wide store chain that once was your greatest enemy :Super Foods. The place looks terrible, the store clerk is a joke, some of the products are misplaced and the service is awful. What a joke.

What’s important is Maggie got what she needed! You obviously paid for it all.

“So where do we go now…?” Maggie wonders.
“My apartment. Where else?”
“Uh, hello? Do you understand what’s going on? You’re inviting me over to your apartment like it’s nothing! I could have sworn you were the type who gets all embarrassed by this kind of stuff.”

“So? I know what type of girl you are. Let’s go.” You start walking towards your apartment.
“W-wait, what does that mean…? I thought I knew what you thought out of me, but I think it’s actually way worse than I originally imagined – so did you try to give me a compliment just now or what? I’m like, super lost!”

Before you could have move on into the dinner, a large man interrupts your walk.

“Heyo. I was wondering if you were the owner of Brown’s?” The tall man wonders. He looks kind of sketchy, but doesn’t seem like the delinquent type.

Maggie stands next to you as confused as you are. You have never seen this guy before in your life, and you have lived in this town since you were a little baby.

What do you do?

>Engage in combat! You will have the advantage.

“Who’s asking?” You don’t want to be rude, but you have no idea who this guy is. You slowly reposition in front of Maggie just in case.
“Oh, name’s Masen Reid. My dad owns Lord Meat. More like used to...” Masen loudly laughs. He’s the butcher’s son! “Honestly it’s not funny...” His mood swing is kind of odd, but more like a goofball kind of odd.

“Right. I guess I was the owner of Brown’s.” You deadpan.
“HAHAHA! Good one. But honestly, I’m sorry about happened to ya. I’m on an errand, so I don’t want to keep you occupied. Here…” He hands you a business card for a new Butcher Shop called “King Meat”. For some reason it’s signed. “It will give you a discount at our new shop; it opens next Monday in the middle of town. My Dad and I wanted to thank you for cheering him up the other day.”

“Thanks. Did he get any information about Aleister Price?” You know pretty much almost anything you need. But you ask just in case.
He gets closer to you. “Pay us a visit and we will have a chat. I don’t want your lady friend to think you’re some kind of weirdo.” He leans back. “I’ll see you around. You two have fun.”

Masen leaves towards the convenience store.

“So you usually go around making good deeds?” Maggie is kind of on awe. Probably imagining something greater than what actually happened.
“No. Not really.” You continue walking. During the walk you inform Maggie about what’s going on.

It was a short trip back from the convenience store. Maggie seems surprised at how small your apartment is, believing a store clerk would have something a little bigger. But she’s fairly happy about your place being tidy.

Maggie asked you for an apron and started cooking lighting fast! That’s never a good sign of a good chef. Anyway, it didn’t take long for your Hastily Made Dinner to be done. You take a bite and it’s good – but nothing out of this world.

“Soooooo what did you think? That’s my specialty.” Maggie seems proud of her plain dish.

What do you respond?

“I like it.” You nod approvingly. Instantly Maggie raises her hands in victory! She’s all smiles in a way you haven’t seen before. “It’s so… You.” You conclude.
“Hold on a second, what do you mean by that…?” All her cheerfulness leaves her body for a moment. “It’s that actually good or what? I don’t get it! C’mon Allie, tell me!”

You keep on eating the Hastily made dish.

“Stop ignoring me! I hate when you do that!” She begins poking you in the face; making it harder to chew the food.
“I’m trying to eat here. Isn’t that a good enough sign to you that I’m enjoying it?” You move away.
“So does that mean you find me enjoyable? Like you won’t kick me out and leave me all alone and shit?” She moves exclusively to keep poking your face.

“I don’t understand what you’re trying to get at, but I won’t kick you out. We have work to do.”
“Hohoho… That’s goooood.” Maggie slowly relaxes. “Sheesh, I feel all like super tired all of a sudden. Do you have something I can crash on for the night…? Fuck, I didn’t come prepared, lend me a shirt too.”

“What?”
“Don’t what me, man. I’m too tired and it’s too late for me to leave to my stinky house. Soooo, I’m crashing for the night here. You just said you won’t kick me out.” That’s out of context.

“Fine. My bed is over there.” You deadpan again as you point to it.
“Wooooah, thanks!” Maggie is overjoyed with gratitude! “But where are you going to sleep…?”
“I was joking.” You have to kill the joke.
“Oh. So I have to leave…?” Maggie goes to empty mode all of a sudden.

“No. That wasn’t part of the joke. Unless you want to.”
Maggie snaps out of it. “N-no! I’ll stay! I can sleep on the floor no problem; sleeping almost everywhere is like my secret ability or something!” That can be misunderstood. But you won’t joke about it. “I just need you to lend me some blankets and stuff. I’ll show you, man.”

You gave Maggie everything she requested that you had. She somehow manages to create something that resembles a bed. You sit on it and it feels fairly comfortable. Quite amazing to say the least.

Shortly after the impromptu bed was made, Maggie ate some of the Lovely Homemade Lunches you were storing with great joy. Maggie confessed she didn’t make enough of her dinner for another plate before, because she didn’t think you would like it, so she only made one portion and expected you to reject it – so she could eat it all.

It’s fairly late now and the two of you are tucked inside their own respective beds. Maggie is wearing one of your bigger t-shirts as a pajama (she changed in the bathroom.) You offered once again for you to exchange beds, but Maggie seems adamant on staying in hers – she proclaims she’s used to it.

And so the two of you went to sleep…

After yesterday’s encounter, it’s better if you go immediately to chat with butcher family. You began to gear up to go out. You wake up Maggie as well and explain what you are going to do; it took a while to get her to awaken completely.

“…I’ll go with you.” A very sleepy Maggie wants in.
“No, it’s better if you go to classes.”
“But I don’t want to go to school! It sucks!” She’s whining already.
“You can’t go to school and then go to Karate. Imagine what they will say about you.” You remind her.

“Fuuuuck… You’re right, I already have it bad enough and I don’t want the teach’s talking shit about me too.” She is resigned to her fate. “I’ll go…”

You tell her there is homemade food in the fridge, and you’re going to update her as soon as she’s out of school. And off you go!

After a short bus trip, you arrive to King Meat – and by the looks of it, it is still in construction. Either way, you quickly spot the son Mason – it seems like he’s helping redecorate outside.

“Hey, you have a minute?” You politely ask.
“Heeeyo. I wasn’t expecting you to come here this early.” You two shake hands. “Seems like my dad was right about ya, you’re really motivated to beat that guy Aleister’s ass.”
“And where is your dad?”
“Inside.” Mason points inside the store at Jean-Loup, he’s visible through the giant glass; he seems busy talking with the workers. “He’s real busy unlike me. He told me about what you are planning to do; so I know you came here for some pointers about that brat, right?”

“Yes. I need all the help I can get.”
“I would imagine so. You came to the right guy, I ended up doing most of the research since my dad is quite busy. Buckle up, because it’s a lot.” Mason seems pretty eager to tell.

Sadly all the information is already stuff you know. You explain to him this fact.

“God damn. I wasn’t expecting that, that’s impressive. But I should have, I got most of this from the internet. HAHA! But that makes this easier to propose…” Out of the blue Mason gets all serious; he then takes his t-shirt off and you’re able to see his stomach full of bandages. “You know I actually confronted that kid.”

He puts his t-shirt back. “I just wanted to settle on some sort of compensation for what he did to my dad’s business as amicable as possible. I know I look kind of intimidating, but people were talking like this sort of nice guy with a strong sense of justice, so I didn’t expect things to escalate as they did. He mocked me for trying to extort money out of him with my sob story; like I should be grateful he’s trying to save our town and I should shut the fuck up. When I refused to budge, he jumped on me and you just saw the results. I didn’t even attempt to lay a finger on him, but he didn’t have any problems kicking me while I was down. Strong sense of justice my ass.” Mason looks absolutely furious.

“What I’m trying to get at is since I couldn’t be of help as an informant; I want to help you beat the crap out of this kid. He ruined my family and tried to kill me. So I want to get back at him no matter what. What do you say?”

This came out of nowhere and you barely know this guy. Is it really a good idea? He’s built like a truck, so he looks like he can be useful.

What do you do?

“I say welcome to the team, Mason.” You extend your hand for a handshake. Mason accepts it.
“Great! But I’m actually called Masen. HAHA!” Now this turned awkward. “Just call me Reid, only my dad calls me Masen anyway.”
“Right. Sorry about that, Reid.” You profusely apologize.

In a fortunate turns of events, Masen Reid joins the Party!
You gained +3 Charisma Experience Points for getting a new party member. You are halfway close to leveling up.

“HA! Chill. That reminds me; let’s keep this a secret from my dad.”
“Why?” This took you by surprise. Jean-Loup was happy about you trying to get revenge.

“He’s already stressed enough with the new store. Don’t want to pile up more problems on his plate. He’s probably going to call me any second now to ask me for something.” Reid shrugs. “Let’s have a meeting either today or tomorrow night to discuss the details. I know you have something cooked up. Here is my number, don’t hesitate to call me if it’s related to kicking Price’s ass.”

“Sure. And I’m getting things ready. Question, were you interviewed by a journalist named Wessan?”
“I think my dad was. The guy has a goatee, right? He actually got his hands on footage of Aleister fighting some dudes thinking it was at our store. Sadly for us it was the flower shop; at least that couple has a case against Price.”

Hey Masen! I need you here for a second, boy!” That’s Jean-Loup’s voice.
“That’s my dad. I’ll catch with you up later, Al. I’m counting on ya.” Reid goes inside the store.

Masen is always available at night, more likely than not he’s busy during the day.

You’re feeling more confident about beating Aleister Price with a team behind. Sadly that’s all we have for this thread!

I’m sorry everyone. I was incapable of ending this quest in one thread. I had problems during the week that prevented it. I have my long standing quest (Do Your Best) to do this weekend, so I won’t be able to continue this one.

But I’m planning on running this one again in a brand new thread in the foreseeable future (maybe next week or in two more.)

Here is my quest twitter if you want to check for updates:

Any questions/ comments/ requests are welcome. Thanks for playing!

surprised that Mason doesn't have a higher strength.

What were the other quests that you have done? I might give them a read if I ever find the time.

The other quests 91m10 has one are:
>Not So Glorious Quest (completed)
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?searchall=not+so+glorious
>From Pleb to Hero Quest (an heroed just like a real human bean)
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?searchall=From+Pleb+to+Hero
>Do Your Best Quest (ongoing)

Yeah these >>3311194 are mine. I warn you, English is not my first language.

I recommend Do Your Best over all of the others, because it's better written (I have someone to proof read it), and I eventually learn how to draw a little better during its course.
