/qst/ - Quests

Previous thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=One%20Piece%20Bounty%20Photographer%20Quest

In last thread’s episode of M.A.R.I.N.E.s, our hero ENSIGN HARRY FLASHMAN was assigned to Loguetown in order to take criminals’ photographs for bounty posters. In doing so, he managed to crit about seven trillion rolls, ended up involved in copious shenanigans, and is now the subject of a custody dispute between a drunken, lazy sadist and a cigar-chomping Marine. No-one knows what bullshit will happen next, including the QM.

>CUT-CHWAAAAAANNNNN

It’s 7am. It’s bright. It’s early. And you’re standing outside instead of eating breakfast or having a luxurious lie-in. You got up at six for this? Really?

“Oh. You’re here.”

You try not to twitch. “Yes. I’m here. You TOLD me to be here, not-boss.”

“Yeeeaaaaaahhhh,” Klaus drawls, reaching up to scratch under a tired eye. He looks like he’s going to pass out at any second. “Didn’t expect you to actually make it. Was kind of looking forward to beating you for being late.”

“... So... I don’t get to be beaten?”

“Oh, wow, big misunderstanding! I’m still gonna beat you, I just don’t have an excuse for it.”

You hate mornings. And Klaus. And everything. “Great.”

“No problem.” He draws his cutlass in a slow, jerky movement, not a hint of grace, and you kind of hate the fact that despite that, he could probably have killed you ten different ways in the time it took to do so. The dick. “We’ll start nice and slow, pretty-boy.”

You grit your teeth, and draw Cut-chan, the young lady who’s never let you down so far.

Oh by the way something I wanted to ask about but forgot to last thread, our general fitness was just at a +2 last thread If I'm remembering right. Is that going up at all from general exercises or do we specifically have to train for gains? (I'd understand If that was the case, because at this rate Flashman would be damn strong If he got ripped while mastering the blade.)
>>
>>3298333
Oh, nice. It's cool how one quest can inspire an even better one to show up so quickly.
>>
Do you have a signature laugh already figured out already?
>>
OP, OP! Do you have a twitter to post when you are running? Thaat would be pretty cool.
>>
>>3298370
While I appreciate the compliment as much as the next socially-stunted nerd, I’m really enjoying OP Headhunter Quest. At the moment I have a lot more time to run than the other OP so this quest is moving faster, but if I hadn’t been enjoying the other quest so much, I’d never have decided to pull my dusty Bounty Photographer ideas out to see the light of day. The other quest is also very good at fleshing out the OC’s, which I really need to work on, and doesn’t spew typos around like it’s going out of style... which is my greatest weakness besides cardio.

>>3298344
You CAN train Fitness specifically, which will make it rise much faster, but it also raises (slower) with other strenuous activity. You’re going to get another General Fitness point from today’s spar, because Klaus is giving you a major workout.
At the moment, general fitness is kind of a background thing to take note of, and doesn’t have much bearing on combat rolls. If you got into an actual fight with something a lot physically stronger/faster than you, or if it turned into an endurance slog, that’s when I’d start taking fitness into account.
>>3298247
I accept rolls with the bonuses already put in, I just find it easier for people new to rolling if it’s a straight d100.
>>3298486
No, but I will accept maniacal giggling.
>>3298763
No, because I am allergic to all forms of social media. Currently you can pretty much expect a thread to be going constantly... in a couple of weeks I’ll be leaving Taiwan so internet access will be shoddy for a little while (and time zones different), so I might get a Twitter then. I’ll still try to do a couple of posts a day, but it’ll get slower for a while until I can sort internet out.

Thanks to whoever posted on last thread to link this one, by the way, I completely forgot. Writing spars now.
>>
>70 + 13 = 83, shiggity diggity

Grouchy as you are, you had a good sleep and a full breakfast, which means you”re not too shabby. Your movements maybe aren’t quite as... natural?... as yesterday’s bout with him, but you manage to reasonably hold your own against Klaus anyway (even if you know it’s only because he lets you).

Sometimes his cutlass gently taps yours into a better position, and sometimes there’s a sharp slap of the flat of his blade to where you’ve left yourself open, but you don’t make the same mistake twice, even if it requires every ounce of concentration and several aborted movements.

(+1 to katana/cutlass)

>second spar, 79 + 14 = 93

The second spar, after a short break for water, goes even better. This time, Klaus talks as you fight, his succinct, drawling comments pointing out how you SHOULD have done this, and you definitely shouldn’t have done that, and why are you putting our leg there? Are you asking him to stab it? Well, far be it from him to pass up an invitation like that.

Finally, when you feel like you’re going to collapse into a pile of goo, and the bandages covering your tattoo are disgustingly sweaty, Klaus steps back, sheathing his sword, fresh as a daisy.

“Yeah... I think we’re done for the day.” He yawns, cricking his neck with a horrible noise. “Gotta work on your stamina, you”re way too weak.”

“Unghngngngh,” you say.

“Sure, sure.” He gives a vague nod. “Right, same time, same place, tomorrow. See ya, prettyboy.”

He ambles off. You can’t wait for the day you get good enough to stab him in the face.

(+1 General Fitness!)

You feel too exhausted to train any more just yet, so after a shower and change (with a gleeful look at your dragon as you put fresh gauze on), you decide to
>check out how Mina’s doing.
>get a couple of hours of tattoo-work in.
>Other?
>>
ALSO. I was looking over my general idea for the combat bonus passives, and decided to change it up a little to keep things realistically (as much as they can be in One Piece). Even though you were bottom of the Academy, it’s still kind of dumb to think that you could have only beaten two civilise with ease.

So instead;
Katana/Cutlass currently at 14: you can defeat up to 7 normal civilians or 2 normal rookie pirates without needing to roll, all things being equal.
Jitte currently at 12: you can defeat up to 6 normal civilians or 2 normal rookie pirates without needing to roll.

To be fair, Headhunter quest may be better at fleshing out OCs, but yours definitely has a better Main Character. Even if you do make more typos than a phoneposting dyslexic.

Besides, I have it on good authority that KagiQM is really enjoying your quest, and wishes he could play it more often.

Also, I recalled something about how Captain Kidd might show up at Loguetown, and I was wondering how that's possible and why he would do that? He's from the South Blue, isn't he?
>>
>>3298878
>Check out how Mina's doing.

Gotta make sure she's settling in alright.
>>
>>3298902
Yeah but all pirates need to pass through Loguetown in order to get onto the grand line - quest timeline is early enough that Kid hasn't even made it into the grand line, let alone become a supernova
>>
>>3298915
>all pirates need to pass through Loguetown in order to get onto the grand line
Is... this a detail I somehow forgot? I thought Loguetown was just the place most East Blue pirates would stop at to restock before the Grand Line? Otherwise every pirate from another sea has to find a way to cross the Grand Line/Red Line/Both?
>>
>>3298866
Don't sweat the typos QM!
Since you're questing in real time I'd prefer consistent updates over getting perfect spelling and grammar.
Plus your grammar is damn good anyway, which makes up for the occasional typo here and there desu

>>3298915
Loguetown is also technically the birthplace of the Golden Age of piracy since it's where Rogers was executed. I can see some pirates going out of their way just to visit it / pay their respects / vow to be the next pirate king.

I do write and post on my phone, so it’s halfway there! As for the dyslexia part, it’s half me being too much of a lazy asshole to re-read, and half that when I do re-read, they get past me. Usually because it’s stupid o’clock at night and I’m half-dead. Trying to work on re-reading stuffy more, though...

Thanks for the compliment on Flashy (although I’m really enjoying Valerio to be honest) but honestly it’s the actions/responses people vote for that are fleshing him out, I just have to come up with the motive for him doing XY or Z. He was originally meant to be panicked at being tattooed by pirates, and you guys pretty much made that shit your own, among other things.

(Thank you KagiQM, whenever you may be!)

As for Captain Kidd, I kind of wanted to throw s big shot future name at you to see if you wanted to kick off some early canon changes (this was before you got attached to Smoker and I realized you might want to leave with him). It was either going to be Law or Kidd, but considering recent revelations, I’d rather leave Law for a little while for maximum drama. Sorry, I mean effect.

As such, as I don’t believe there’s any canon for how Kidd got to the Grand Line (maybe I’m wrong?) I’m assuming through Reverse Mountain. Will you guys manage to take his picture? Will you get caught? Will you totally avoid him? Will you end up getting drunk with his crew and finding yourself with another damn tattoo? I HAVE NO IDEA.
>>
>chasing after a little girl, how creepy

Aching in muscles you didn’t know you had (and possibly some you’ve grown just for the purpose of hurting), you make it your mission to hunt down the first ever child you gave a piggyback to. You had enough of them at the orphanage, so it was kind of cool to be on the other end.

It’s pretty simple to find her - it’s a Marine base, which means gossip moves faster than Tashigi towards a sword (considering the curious and amused looks you’re getting, it sounds like tales of your spar with Smoker have spread, too, ugh).

A little kid (without Marine parents) on base is certainly enough for everyone to know about, even if no-one’s been told about the slavery part. At the moment, she’s helping out in the administration offices, which means less ‘doing paperwork’ and more ‘delivering messages and fetching drinks while picking up a lesson in bureaucracy here and there’.

At the very least, as you peek around the doorway to see her humming happily (and out of tune) as she organizes the sticky-notes by color, she seems to be having fun.

You’d like to dramatically charge into the room, but it proooobably isn’t the best idea to startle a freshly-freed slave. Instead, you saunter in as jauntily and unthreateningly as possible, and FINGER-GUNS, THERE THEY ARE, DAMMIT.

“It is I! Your noble steed!” Curse you, haaaaands!

Mina pauses to stare up at you. And Up. And up. You’re not freakishly tall like some people, but compared to a ten year old, you’re feeling pretty secure in your ability to reach a high shelf. Yeah, that's right - you’re taller than a young child. How about that, huh?

“It’s you!”

“Yeah, I already said that, keep up.” You disarm your finger-guns, mock-putting the safeties on, and hey, she actually giggles at that! Usually you just get weird looks. “How are you, small but efficient child?”

“I’m Mina!” With that insistent correction, she moves on to, “I’m helping Mrs Landwright with the recruit applications, it’s pretty cool.” She looks undeniably smug at this responsibility, even if you suspect it’s pretty much makework.

“Impressive,” you praise anyway, watching her preen.

MOTHERFUCKER first I had to take a phone call, then my post deleted itself. Dammit.

>we all scream for ice cream

"Wanna slack off and get ice cream?"

"YES!" She coughs, slumping down from where she'd sprung into an excited bounce. "Um. I should... check if I can, first?"

As it turns out, she can, because no-one actually finds a ten year old girl a valuable employee who can't take a break for sugar-filled dairy products. What a surprise.

At least this leads to you being a noble steed once more, this time towards an ice cream parlor, with a much cleaner and neater-dressed Mina this time.

The parlor itself is almost empty, and the pair of you sit down in the luxury of no screaming brats or harrassed staff.

Damn phoneposting btw. I hope my IP doesn't jump around too much.
>>
OK, I was dead to the world and missed the start of the second thread.
Eh, the other anons are better at shenanigans than me.

Flashman is based on Proto Arty, of course he's hot: so we must keep playing him like a goofball, it's in the Rules of Anime.
Sanji will hate us forever, even if we are his and Zoro's son from the future. Luffy is sure of this.

On the camera, I had in mind an old one my grandpa used and tweaked it up a bit. (And photographers get into some really strange poses when they focus, wow)

NICE, DRAGON IS QM-APPROVED
and thats enough for me.

I'm here to laugh at Flashman and maybe feel a bit given the parentage... I think, I dropped O.P. some time ago, and don't remember much to anything at all of it, specially post-timeskip

>strawberry ice cream (and also some kid i guess)

"So how are you settling in, kid? Other marines treating you alright?"

Mina nods frantically, gaze rapturously fixed on her bowl of double-chocolate caramel goodness (with extra chocolate sauce). You hope she's not going to fall into a diabetic coma. "Uh-huh! Everyone's really nice, but I haven't spoken t'many people yet."

From the way she hasn't looked at you once, you can tell where all her attention is. That's fine, though, because you have strawberry ice cream to devour, the very manliest of flavors! What kind of a man feels insecure just because their ice cream is pink? A whiny loser, that's what!

MmmOWBRAINFREEZEOW OW OW

You... don't feel so great about Mina laughing at your flailing as you did when she laughed at the finger-guns.

"So it's all good, then," you manage to say, to distract from your (still manly) attack by frozen dairy products.

"Mmhm, " she manages, mouth full. "Captain Smoker says I have to have lessons, though."

She pulls a face at the idea, though you're all for it. "Education is important," you inform her wisely, with all the accumulated knowledge of a guy who slept through most of his own schooling. "There's not a lot of jobs out there that don't need at least a little of it."

"What about the Marines? Don't you guys just need to know how t'shoot and stab stuff?"

"Uh. Well. Oh, look, your ice cream is melting! Better eat it fast!"

Then you snigger in schadenfreude as she wolfs a mouthful down and gets brainfreeze. Delicious justice is served.

"Oh sh-oot, you whisper, censoring yourself when you remember the child sitting opposite you. Unfortunately, this means you can't flip the familiar face off, either, so you settle for an intense glare.

Amazingly enough, it doesn't stop him. How truly shocking.

As the entrance bell merrily jingles, unaware of the horror entering its hallowed premises, goddamn Klaus shuffles inside, looking less like he's there to buy ice cream and more to lure small children into alleys.

"Don't look at the weirdo, Mina," you say primly, as she turns to see.the new arrival. "You don't know where it's been."

"Big words from a prettyboy eating pink ice cream," Klaus yawns, thus showing his insecure sexuality, as he steadily approaches. Why is - no. No he is not slumping down next to you. No- damn.

"Why. Are you here?"

Klaus ignores you, staring at Mina instead, who ignores him in turn, devoted to her ice cream. Understandable. "Why... have you got a child?"

"She was on sale. Why. Are you. Here?"

Klaus' own face undergoes an exciting series of twists and turns, before settling on something between 'I stepped in a pile of dog shit' and 'I want to punch you in the face'.

"You call your cutlass... Cut-chan?"

You think about explaining that she came with the Cut part, and only -chan was your own addition, before deciding that it probably wouldn't improve matters. "Why do you want to see Cut-chan?"

"I really don't WANT to see your... Cut-chan... but I - Oh, one scoop eaxh of peanut butter and mint, please - need to make sure it's suitable for you. It's a Marine standard-infantry sword, yeah?"

Who the hell mixes peanut butter with mint? "She's suitable! More than suitable! She's perfect!"

Mina nods in furious agreement, despite clearly having no idea what the two of you are talking about.

"I'm not saying it's a bad blade, prettyboy , just that it won't take the kind of abuse our lessons are gonna put it through." He shrugs, and even that seems awkward and slow. "I'm just doing light taps at the moment, but we'll be at more than that, soon."

if by commissions you mean:

the answer is:
>I wish, ahaha! ahah. ah.
ahem- off-topic spoiler ahead, ignore it anons
I have DA and IG, but it's mostly to keep track of my progress with coloring, so either shoot an idea here or send a message on deviantart to notsogrumpypanda.
I don't have a price list, (didn't even realize what users meant with commissions at the start!) so just put an idea. If it's simple enough I wont even charge

...and now I realize that I publish mostly ink, dammit inktober

Either way, I'll keep drawing for the quest if it keeps me laughing. Or drives me to tears.
One of the two.
I know that Black Company Quest managed both, and thus got a ton of fanart from me.

>i am the husbando of my sword

You rise from your seat like a tsunami cresting from gentle ocean waves to a roaring harbinger of death. "No! I believe in Cut-chan! Her spirit is stronger than that!"

You stand, hand fisted in the air, an expression of unswerving dedication upon your face.

Klaus stares at you.

Mina stares at you.

The waitress, delivering a bowl of peanut butter and mint ice cream, stares at you.

"I. Uh. Yeah, okay," Klaus mutters, shifty-eyed as he takes his dessert. "Just siddown and eat your ice cream pretty boy."

"Flash-san is so cool!"

At least Mina's sudden hero-worship and awestruck gaze is flattering enough to turn your reluctant, sulky seating into a posture of pride. Even if she is getting your name wrong.

"So you really wanna trust a Marine standard sword against my training, huh?" Klaus shrugs, pouring toffee sauce over his ice cream like the degenerate he is. "Well, that's your sword's funeral, not mine. You'll learn."

"I've never learned a thing in my life," you vow, resolve firm, "and I won't start now!"

Klaus once more stares blankly at you. "I believe you, prettyboy."

You nod firmly, secure in your victory and the defence of your precious Cut-chan.

The air doesn't chill when he walks in, but that's only because the parlor doesn't skimp on the heating. When half your customers are going to be stripping off, you guess that's important.

What's more important is that you're lying on your back while your artist works her magic (about two and half more hours to go before the glittering scales are complete), when he strides (or stomps) in like he owns the place.

You recognize him immediately, even if the old picture was considered outdated.

Captain Eustass Kidd is in East Blue, looking around a Loguetown tattoo parlor with amused interest, gaze flicking over the sample display.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

Your artist - Clara? - must see you stare, because she pauses, turns her head to look, and then promptly shoves your neatly folded jacket and shirt out of sight behind a table.

You think you might buy her flowers.

You take as deep a breath as you can without attracting attention, and give Clara a faint nod.

She arches an eyebrow.

You nod again, harder.

Shrugging, she goes back to work, while another artist - clearly not recognizing the guy - walks over to assist this shiny new customer.

"- just looking at the moment," you hear him say, casual as can be, like he isn't a notorious pirate captain strutting around a city under Captain 'Fuck pirates, but not sexually' Smoker. Shit. Your den den is in your coat, along with your camera.

Now, the two are two are chatting away about the kinds of designs that Kidd's interested in. He doesn't mention wanting one of a pile of severed Marine heads, which is only a little comforting.

Then - then the lunatic glances around the parlor, the sample art on the walls, the clean equipment carefully organised in the cabinets and - you, lying on a table, your weapons shut away in a locker.

He cocks his head, looking at you with interest.

What if the nat 100 is used for intimidation instead. Just imagine, way later on at sabaody you have Kidd waltzing around being a badass, then he hears flashman is in the area. His crew would panic and those who fear Kidd will thin that Flashman is some sort of demon rather than a goofy marine.

"I'm a photographer who dreams of capturing all the famous and notorious pirates in the world," you say with a grin, curling your fingers into an imaginary camera and mock-photographing him. "Flash is the name, pics are my game!"

Kidd comes to a stop near you, still looking amused, although on him, even amusement is ever so slightly terrifying. "Shit, yeah? How many you managed so far?"

"Not many," you admit, just in case he decides he wants to see the pictures. "I got a lot of the Long pirates pretty recently, but most pirates that make it to Loguetown either lie low or get arrested too soon - and when I'm at sea, I gotta work."

"Yeah, I heard there's some big-shot Marine Captain around here." He frowns for a second, then smirks. "Fuck, maybe I should see how good he really is?"

>I think he's on patrol at the moment,so I don't think would work. Not if you're in a hurry. (Bullshit to keep him away from Smoker)

>so innocent much wow

"Wow, that would be amazing! Maybe I could even get close to shoot some pictures of the fight!" You widen your eyes in glee like a Labrador puppy informed that it's going to the park.

"Too dangerous for you weak civilians," Kidd instantly dismisses, "not that it'd last long." You can tell he's thinking about picking a fight though, so your look of disappointment is entirely faked.

Man, Smoker is going to flip his absolute shit! But, uh, in a good way. You hope.

Seeing your supposed dreams crumble, Kidd smirks at you again, crossing his arms. "But hey, you know what? Why don't you take pictures of me, anyway. When I'm the next Pirate King, you can show it off and brag about meeting me before I made it big."

"I'd say you're already pretty big," you flatter, which is kind of true (he's a major name in South Blue at least, and probably most people in the East have at least heard of him, if not know his appearance. "But I'm not gonna turn down this opportunity. You want to do it in here?"

Kidd considers, tapping a painted fingernail against his lips, while he preens over having a fanboy. "It's a nice joint, but a tattoo shop isn't the best backdrop. I'm planning on checking out the execution grounds while I'm here, how about that?"

Why is it always the damn execution grounds?! Why does every pirate have to make a pilgrimage here??

>>

Wait, what? I wanted to just take the pictures, note where his ship was, then book it back to Smoker. We know what he looks like, and that he's planning on either visiting the execution grounds or heading to the base, figured Smoker could jump him with Tashigi or whatever while some other marines hit the ship.
>>
>battle royale at the docks, ohh yeeeeaahhhh

"How about in front of your ship? Really make it about you, rather than the past."

Well, now. Kidd apparently likes that idea, from the way his savage grin widens. "Y'know what? That's a good point. This is about my future, my own legend. Yeah." He pounds one first into his other palm, back straightening. "All right, we're at the main docks. Sails aren't marked - Killer insisted, the paranoid bastard - but look for the 'Blood Forge'." (Ugh, what a stupid, overdramtic name for a ship. He should have called it something totally sweet like 'Floating DeathBringer Ship of Doom'.)

"I got to get this cleaned up, then I'll be right down," you promise, still looking excited. He nods, obviously smug, and then turns to saunter out with only a quick glance at the display wall. You can't help but notice he has even more swagger to his step now then when he came in.

Clara locks eyes with you, blank-faced, as she stops work and starts disinfecting and attaching gauze. "You wanna call your Captain?"

"Right the crap now," you fervently agree.

With your den den pulled from it's coat harness and pressed into your hand, you quickly call your favorite boss. His response is... not enthusiastic, as the den den glares up at you.

"What trouble have you gotten into NOW, brat?"

>I've got an appointment with Captain Kidd to take some pictures of him and his ship. You wanna meet him, boss?

You can just take pictures, or arrange for Smoker and the Marines to hit him there, it's up to you. Be aware that Smoker will have his own ideas, so might order you against what you want.

If you want to handle things solo for a little longer, keep quiet about it, because if Smoker knows then he WILL take charge.

“I’ve got an appointment with Captain Kidd to take some pictures of him and his ship. You wanna meet him, boss?”

There’s a long silence while the Den Den squints as you, before it releases a long, slow sigh.

“I don’t know why I bother being surprised. Where I should he?”

“In plain sight at the docks,” you tell him, voice cheery. “Sails are down, but if you know the figurehead, I’m sure you can find it easily. Soooo, I’m heading off to take his picture like a good photographer!”

“No you”re not.”

You pause. “What?”

“You’re not going to take his picture, idiot.”

You open your mouth to tell him that he’s, in fact you ARE going to do so, before remembering your respective positions. “Why not?!”

“Because as you said, you’re a photographer,” he bluntly replies. “You don’t need to take his photo if he’s already been arrested, and I can get that done myself. There’s no need for you to be endangered. You’ve done a good job finding out where he is, but I’ll take it from here.”

>I can take care of myself! I’m a MARINE photographer, not civilian!

This
...but just to be clear, we ARE gonna nip back to the base real quick to change into our civvies, right? Waltzing up to the ship in full marine gear is gonna get us killed, Kidd's not gonna be happy he's been had by a marine.
>>
>>3301870
Options are to quickly go change, or just go bare-chested (with gauze over the fresh tattoo). The pants aren’t really recognizable as Marine issue by themselves. That said, Kidd might be a teeeeny bit suspicious if you turn up with a cutlass, katana, jitte and pistol.

... are you guys carrying the jitte around? I forgot to check.

Anyway, writing.
>>
>>3301872
I mean I don't think we ever put it back (and why would we, after that headpat?) so I'd say yes.

Honestly if we are getting into combat, its best we dump all weapons at the base but jitte since it was a wooden one last time I checked.
>>
>>3301845
This was actually going to be an option, I’m kind of happy someone came up with it by themselves.

>papa i’m a big boy now

You scowl. “I might be a photographer, but I'm still a Marine, boss. I have a duty to help keep the peace, same as you.”

The Den Den grinds its teeth on a nonexistent cigar. “Brat, you’re doing well in training. But have you ever fought a Devil Fruit user?”

Well... no. But still. “I’m an Ensign,” you insist, “not infantry. And I grew up in the Grand Line, it’s not like you’re the first Devil Fruit user I’ve ever seen. Besides, with his crew backing him, you need all the help you can get, right?”

The pair of you glare at each other. Technically it’s glaring at a giant snail, but that sounds less dramatic, so you’ll just pretend there’s no intermediary.

“Fine.” He sounds annoyed, but at least he’s not pretending you’re wrong. “But you, Tashigi and the men will be taking out his crew. You don’t go anywhere near Kidd himself, got it?”

>Aye aye, bossman!

More like five cigars at the same time.

>flashy is a good boy

You grin in relief, flashing (flashing, get it?) a jaunty salute at the grouchy snail. “Aye aye, bossman!”

“Don’t make me regret this, rookie.”

“I’m the least regret-worthy person in existence,” you say breezily. “All right, I’ll meet everyone near the docks. Ciao!”

“Stop being perky,” is Dmoker’s final snappish comment, before you hang up.

Okay. Now, you’ll

>leave Cut-chan and your katana at the tattoo shop, and take Jitte-san to meet with the rest of the Marines near the docks.
>take all your weapons to meet up.
>(Other?)

(This is assuming you’re going to go in uniform and join up with Smoker pre-docks. If you want to go meet Kidd first (which Smoker would very much not approve of), you can wrangle a shirt from a clothes shop, but you’ll have to vote for it.)
>>
>>3301898
>leave Cut-chan and your katana at the tattoo shop, and take Jitte-san to meet with the rest of the Marines near the docks.

Is Jitte-san wooden?
Cut-chan and Katana-kun need to sit this one out, with Kidd's magnetism powers they'll be reduced to scrap metal in seconds.
>>
>>3301898
>take all your weapons to meet up
We ain't walking away from this without a scuffle, leaving our gear would be a bit too dumb. Sorry, Kidd, but we lied to ya'. No hard feelings, just part of our job.
>>
>>3301901
Thing is, I don't believe we actually know his Devil Fruit powers yet? Leaving them there to avoid them getting trashed is a bit meta.
>>
>>3301898
>>leave Cut-chan and your katana at the tattoo shop, and take Jitte-san to meet with the rest of the Marines near the docks.

>>
>>3301898
>>leave Cut-chan and your katana at the tattoo shop, and take Jitte-san to meet with the rest of the Marines near the docks.
We're not going be able to go toe to toe with any named characters, but then again Flashman doesn't have to skill to do so yet anyway.

Flashman IS skilled enough to be able to take down random mooks with a wooden jitte, right?
>>
>>3301902
But we didn't lie to him. Hell, we gave him exactly what he wanted. It's not our fault if he underestimates Smoker.
>>
>>3301898
>leave Cut-chan and your katana at the tattoo shop, and take Jitte-san to meet with the rest of the Marines near the docks.

We are supposed to avoid Kidd, it's only sensibile to rely on metal equip.
On the other hand, if we are forced on a confrontation we still have the jitte and can drop the other weapons (sorry cut-chan)

Btw I have no knowledge whatsoever of kidd's abilities.
If he is pirate magneto we are kinda fucked anyway, because we are with a squadron of people armed with metal. Maybe. I don't know the procedure to engage this particolar target. It'd be hilarious to see the marines raid the training hall for all the wood weapons
>>
>>3301924
For jitte at current skill, you can defeat up to 6 normal civilians or 2 normal rookie pirates without needing to roll. Admittedly, Jitte-san is made of wood, and Kidd’s crew are tougher than the average rookie pirate, so; if you’re fighting one at a time, you don’t need to roll for the first few. After a few such fights, you’re going to start getting tired and need to roll. If you fight more than one pirate at once, you’ll need to roll, or if you fight a named character.

Clear? Also, writing.
>>
>>3301931
I'm assuming all the big guns that are expected to go directly against them will be armed with seastone weapons (which negate devil fruit powers).
>>
>>3301931
...I copy-pasted the wrong vote and don't understand how. I mean, I even wrote the whole reasoning behind my choice...

Ah, whatev. At worst we pick something up from the defeated
>>
>i choose you! jitte-san!

You shove your shirt and jacket on as quickly as possible, abandoning Cut-chan and your katana to the tender care of Clara, who shrugs and says she’ll lock them up in the staff-room. Good enough!

After that, you make a made dash to the docks, or at least near to the entrance, where you’lol be able to see Smoker.

It doesn’t take long for them to arrive; most of them are carrying their normal weaponry, clearly planning on staying clear of the pirate captain himself, but Smoker’s already drawn his jitte as he approaches, and Tashigi has two wooden bokken along with her normal katana.

The Captain’s eyes flick over you as you join with the assembled attack force, raising an eyebrow at your lack of swords. “Only the jitte?”

“Do you honestly think I’m going to manage staying completely out of Kidd’s way?”

“... Good point. Here.” He motions one of the men over, grabbing one of the two white daggers he’s carrying. “We don’t often take these out of storage - not much point, and too damn expensive to risk losing - but in this instance, I’ve cleared it. It should do in a pinch.”

The sea stone dagger goes in your belt, having no proper sheathe, but you suppose it might come in handy. Hopefully it won’t be necessary, though.

“We’ll be moving quickly,” Smoker announces, while Tashigi organizes the men into groups. “I’ll be hitting them first and hopefully getting their Captain. Everyone else follows, leave their officers to our own. Any question?”

>Any last minute questions?

If a regular crew-member manages to escape, use your common sense based on how many remain, whether the rest of the Marines need support etc, to judge whether to give chase or let them go.

The infantry will be getting on the ship via gangplank, so blocking it shouldn’t be a huge issue.

>>3301944
None of the other crew members are believed to be Devil Fruit users, but don’t take that for certain. If there another and you can’t beat them, try to contain them, until Smoker’s done with Kidd (assuming he doesn’t kick Kidd’s ass in 3 seconds).

Okay, you’re going to be moving in, now.

Apparently no-one expects a Logia to suddenly drop from the sky, sweeping around the desk (sparsely populated), and slamming them into mastheads or tossing them overboard. This is also apparently an excellent distraction for and horde of infantry (plus two officers) to charge up the gangplank and start making arrests and takedowns.

(Kidd pirates dealt with: 8/??)

That’s when the ones from below desk begin charging up, a few at first, then more as the pirates scream and guns fire, yelling in fury at the attack on their ship.

>116 v 128 (Kidd v Smoker, minor success)
>37 v 66 (Tashigi v Killer, reasonable success)
>24 v 80 (General pirate crew v infantry, major success)

Unfortunately for the pirates, charging up in ones and twos doesn’t exactly help them. The first ten or so are brought down hard and fast to regular bullets, without a single scratch to the assembled Marines.

(Kidd crew dealt with: 18/??)

Things get trickier after that - now, they’re charging out in number, Killer among them in a whirl of blades, he and the crew crashing into your own side.

Tashigi heads straight for him, face set in determination as her blade blocks his from carving up a Marine, while Smoker sweeps past, slamming his jitte into a couple of pirates’ heads as he charges belowdecks. Yeah, probably best if he takes care of Kidd away from the rest of the more fragile Marines.

You’re not thrilled by the fact that three pirates are charging at you, their respective swords and daggers drawn, but there’s no time to complain - you lock one’s blade between the spokes of your jitte, trying not to put too much pressure on the wooden weapon, then ram it forwards to slam the truncheon part of it into the pirate’s head.

He drops instantly (and hilariously), but you have two either pirates on you now, one of them swinging a blade with a serrated edge at your neck, so you refrain from laughing, and focus on staying alive.

Falling back to let them draw forward, you then step back towards them, leaving one of them stumbling over the injured crewmate he just stepped over, while you attack the third, ramming the jitte into his stomach and then arching it up to hit his chin as he doubles over, wheezing.

You don’t get to enjoy facing off against one pirate for longer than two seconds, because two more of his buddies come to join him.

Pirates are cheating asshole.

One hangs back, aiming a pistol: the others two try to box you in and pin you in place for a good shot. You’re having none of that, getting in close to one and moving with him as he tries to avoid you, not letting his friend have a clear shot.

And then you use him as a human shield from the others, distracting him with your jitte while you step in, draw the dagger, and jab it deep, in-out, into his stomach.

He doesn’t like that very much. Neither does the other swordsman, who yells some extremely impolite words at you as he loses his temper and charges in.

This next part is trickier - while no-one else steps in, you still have one pissed-off swordsmen and a ranged shooter to deal with. Either would be okay by themself, but now it’s harder to position yourself when you don’t have two people to use as human shields.

Out of the corner of your eyes, you see Tashigi mowing down pirates, covered in blood - finished with Killer already? - and the distraction costs you slightly as the swordsman brings his blade across your arm. It’s shallow, but you feel the sharp sting as you quickly backtrack, aiming the jitte’s longer spoke at his crotch. He drops his sword to block that shot instinctively, at which you step in and punch him in the face. There’s a satisfying crunching sound from his nose as he stumbles back, even if it’s accompanied by shooting pain in your fist.

Rolled 93, 82, 84 = 259 (3d100)

>this is my sword now

While the (now swordless) swordsman reels, you move forwards and duck low to grab his sword, straightening as your charge speeds up.

Then you hurl the goddamn sword at him. Because you can, that’s why.

Around you, the battle continues, a little less intense now - judging from the numbers, it’s obvious the Marines are winning, especially with Tashigi having entered the fray. Some of the smarter pirates are even surrendering, seeing the obvious, but gunman-dude is a little too busy to pay attention - the blade doesn’t reach him point-first (you’re not good at throwing weapons, and it’s hardly aerodynamic) but he raises a hand to bat it aside, even as you rush forwards.

It’s not enough to stop him from firing, but it certainly throws his arm off - the bullet crashes past somewhere to the left of you, and you hope it didn’t hit a Marine. There’s no time for consideration beyond that, though, because you’re busy bringing the jitte down to slap his outstretched arm aside, moving in close close close and

He looks down at the blade, mouth an ‘o’ of surprise, then totters backwards gently, causing an unfortunate sucking noise as he pulls himself off the dagger.

“Fuck,” he mutters, which turn out to be his last words as you slam the dagger in again, a little higher, and then tear it upwards.

>check on men

Calming yourself, you full a face at the sprays of blood and viscera on your uniform (and everywhere else), and go to check on the men.

The medical staff Smoker had brought have already rushed up the gangplank, busy triaging, but there don’t seem to be too many injuries - a couple of the men are dead, covered with sailcloth for now, but taking most of the early Pirates down with bullets, and Tashigi entering the main fray early enough, means injuries are few and far between.

Everyone seems to be riding the high - men cheerfully praise each other and salute you as you pass, nodding respectfully... apparently your own fights were witnessed.

Others, prisoners secured, are crowding around Tashigi as she inspects some weird scythe-type blades from... wow, yeah, that’s Killer dead on the deck. Yikes.

You crouch down to help a harried medic bandage a man’s arm, just finishing up as familiar stomping approaches the deck.

Captain Smoker emerges, already lighting a cigar, and looking like he went for a light jog rather than fought a Devil Fruit-using psychopath.

Tashigi and one of the medics rush over to give him the battle and injury reports, while Smoker starts giving orders for the prisoners to be transported.

A quick detour to the tattoo shop (while exhausted and covered in Not Nice Things) leaves you with with your swords, and a disgusted look from Clara.

Apparently she isn’t thrilled by you dropping other people’s bodily fluids everywhere. How strange.

By the time you get back to base, Cut-chan and your katana at your side and Jitte-san sheathed at your back, Tashigi and Smoker are already going over the early reports.

“Siddown, brat,” Smoker says, not even looking at you as you enter his office. He’s far too distracted by scrawling down a list of names and numbers.

Tashigi’s busy as well, though she gives you a friendly nod as you plonk yourself down in a chair, before turning back to her pile of forms.

Ew. Paperwork.

It respawned in the Kidd pirates’ galley, Smoker went to look for it after Kidd died. It would be seriously bad if someone else looted a Devil Fruit, so checking nearby fruit stores is standard procedure after killing a DF user.

You peer at the object, curious. “I guess that’s Kidd’s Devil Fruit?”

Smoker snorts, still involved in his task. “Not anymore, it isn’t. As a Paramecia, we don’t have have to send it direct to base, but it’s still Marine property now.”

Yeah, you can recall the legalities surrounding Devil Fruits retrieved by Marines - the finder gets first shot at eating it, but as Smoker already has a Fruit, he’ll just get a bounty for it instead.

You settle back in the chair, hoping Smoker will be cool with you bloodying it up. “So who’s going to get it? Is there a list, or something?”

“The strategists at HQ’ll draw up a list of suitable candidates, and the Brass will pick from ‘em,” Smoker replies vaguely, still distracted. “Why, you want one yourself?”

“Nah, I like being able to swim.” You shrug, leaning in the look at the paperwork. “Can I, uh, help with anything? I’m pretty good with all the bureaucratic stuff.”

Tashigi’s eyesnlightly up, and she half-turns to you, hands outstretched to give you her own pile.

“Tashigi! Stop that!”

She freezes, looking embarrassed. “Sorry, Captain, that was highly unprofessional of m-“

“He’s doing mine first. Get over here, rookie.”

... You seem to have been recruited as the new paperwork guy. Huh.

Settled down in front of Smoker’s desk, you’re given your own pile from Smoker’s sheets, and promptly start fillimng them out. It’s surprisingly soothing.

You’re well into the rhythm when Smoker speaks up.

“Sounds like you did well today, brat. Didn’t try to rush off against Killer either, so good.”

Hmm, think we might consider getting a devil fruit later If we like It? We could have a lot of fun with the right paramecia and still keep our weaponmaster style.

In fact, should we want a devil fruit later and one were to fall Into our lap, would you let us 'decide' an unknown fruits power?

Not bad. A few tips, make his left fist smaller. Fix the eye placement or make his face smaller. Fix his hairline/hair. He's supposed to be wearing a marine cap. The camera has to be a den den mushi, not a regular camera. If he's doing that pose, make his upper body smaller or use shadowing to show his upper body turned more towards us. Change the lettering in One Piece. The I in Piece looks like a J.

No, we never actually decided if he was gonna wear the cap or not. I remember we were on the fence about it in the first thread, and then QM said we'll vote later? I guess we never did.

>>3302628
Den den cameras DO exist in the OP world, if you want to see what they look like (and don't mind spoilers for the whole cake arc), you can see them in action at the start of this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZDb5JWayV0 (also in pic related)

....But yeah there's nothing to say normal cameras don't exist either.

Marine cap is pretty cool though, I've been imagining it on Flashman this whole time. It just completes the look.

1. Criticism is either constructive or not. Deciding if it's harsh is up to the person receiving it.

3. See point one.

He asked for criticism, notes, and advice on how to improve his art. I gave him suggestions in which to do so. Just because you can't tell the difference between good art and bad art doesn't mean everyone can't. And right there. What you did? It wasn't criticism, because you offered no constructive alternatives in which to "not sounding like an entitled asshole", you were just crying like a fucking bitch.
>>
>>3302777
The face is definitely improved from the changed eye placement, you were right on the money with that, I think the bigger left fist in the original looks better than the smaller ome in the edited pic though.

As for thr cap I personally like it but it but at the end of the day we're all imagining Flashman a little differently, just imagining him in his marine uniform and seeing him wear the hat or not doesn't really matter, even if he technically is. It's just a hat, we can just say he wears it sometimes.

I'm wondering how the straw-hat pirate incident is gonna go, I genuinely don't think we're likely to stop them at all but the interactions and potential fighs we can get in would be interesting. I'm definitely all for joining Smoker if he still ends up chasing after them. There's so much cool shit to see on the Grand Line, which was the whole reason Flashman joined up, and the crazy shit behind his secret dad would play a lot more into the story if we get that far in. QM definitely has a ton to work with when it comes to MC's past, we really lucked out on that if only for the sheer drama value.

>>
>>3303420
Well QM has said that's a choice we could a few times last thread, plus technically we're not actually bound to the marine base here. Our job is to go out and get pirate pics, this place just happens to be the easiest place to get them outside the Grand Line because it's how you get in the Grand Line, not to mention the pirate king's execution spot is basically a pirate pilgrimage point. So yeah we totally can.
>>
Hey guys, what’s going on in- yikes.

>>3302369
This looks really good, thank you! I’ve been trying to come up ideas for the cover that would give an idea of the quest and everything was either too dramatic or too stupid (mainly involving finger-guns). This kind of background and pose (and that grin) gets the message across without screaming ‘this quest is über-serious’ or ‘this quest is blatantly stupid comedy 100% of the time’. Really loving that casual pose, the damn prettyboy, and the seagull-esque Marine symbol on the bounty board is an inspired touch. As another anon said further down, I do think the right eye is slightly off balance, and the title font isn’t fantastic, but everything else is spot on. I love it.

>>3302432
There’ll likely be more opportunities to get s DF later, but which ones will depend entirely on circumstances. If someone rolls another nat 100, I might allow them to save the bonus for the next DF so they can pick what it is, or I might just roll. Alternatively, you could quickly grab the spawning fruit after a nearby DF user dies.

>>3302609
Marine cap wasn’t decided on, but one can just assume he wasn’t wearing it for this picture (he isn’t wearing a Marine jacket or with his weapons either). As for the camera, it was never a Den-Den one, although the one you borrowed to record the warehouse raid was a Den-Den type. I confirmed camera appearance to art-anon in last thread, this one is now correct.

You can go with Smoker, the original idea sss for you to stick around East Blue travelling from island to island, maybe the other other Blues, then get into the Grand Line, but I didn’t expect you guys to be adopted by papa-SmoSmo. Technically you SHOULDN’T go with him, but then technically Smoker shouldn’t abandon his entire town and chase after the Strawhats, sooooo...

>>
>>3303622
>expect you guys to be adopted by papa-SmoSmo. Technically you SHOULDN’T go with him, but then technically Smoker shouldn’t abandon his entire town and chase after the Strawhats, sooooo...
Hell yeah, fuck the police! Maybe we'll meet up with the dragon pirates again, that'd be cool. It would also be cool if we end up friends with the straw hats as we chase them. Every other island we meet up, Smoker screaming for them to surrender while we're just behind him giving a friendly wave and having a casual conversation while fighting against them. Though that'll depend entirrly on how things play out.

I'm also thinking we've got the basic unform and cap, but with both swords on the left of our hip, the jiite on our back like Smoker, and our pistol on the back of our hip. Flashman would have that feel of still a regular officer, with the weaponry on him giving him just enough distinction to stand out.

It would also make it easier to switch out weapons in each hand for different combos. Pistol/cutlass or katana for officer style, pistol/jiite, jiite/cutlass, two handing the jiite or katana for extra oomph in each swing, etc.
>>
Oh, I forgot. From the fighting, +1 to general fitness, new +1 to dual-wielding skill (from the jitte/dagger combo), and new +1 to dagger skill which will now start at +6). You’ve returned the seastone dagger though.

>flashy is a LEADER OF MEN

“I thought I’d be more use helping the men,” you shrug, working your way through the paperwork at speed. “So, have I preoven that I’m not a helpless, flailing civilian, yet?”

“I’m not certain about the ‘flailing’ part, but you’re not helpless,” Smoker admits, and you sulk a little at the sight of Tashigi’s shoulders shaking with suppressed laughter. You might not be on her level yet, but you’ll get there! Eventually! Maybe.

The three of you complete paperwork in a comfortable mostly-silence, broken occasionally by a query regarding events in the battle, or a secretary bringing in fresh coffees.

It takes a couple of hours to do, but no-one seems concerned about the drying blood (you’re the most decorated, but Tashigi and Smoker aren’t exactly clean themselves), even if it’s a disappointment when you have to hand over the seastone dagger at the end.

“You have to make st least Captain in the Blues before you can be assigned a seastone weapon,” Smoker tells you laconically, as you make sad puppy eyes at the dagger. “If you really want one, save up and buy your own.”

“How expensive is that?”

“Very,” Tashigi answers promptly. “But Devil Fruit users aren’t exactly common, and they’re usually the Captains, which means Captain Smoker will be the one to deal with them anyway. So don’t worry about it!”

“We’ll see about getting you a proper jitte, though. It was fine using that one this time, with Kidd’s Devil Fruit, but a wooden one’ll break too easily in real fights.” Smoker eyes your wooden jitte, shoving his now-finished paperwork aside.

You know more about Haki than most Marines in East Blue, because even civilians in the Grand Line have a basic understanding that Haki exists and Does Weird Magic Shit, and you were raised in the Grand Line and lived in Loguetown for a year (plus they covered the basic theory in the Academy, because you might go up against a pirate with it). You’ve seen Armament Haki used, although not Observation or Conqueror’s Haki.

As for officers in general, if they went to the Academy or spent time on the Grand Line, they definitely know about it, if they’re Captain or above (even in the Blues) they probably know about it even if they didn’t go to the Academy and can’t recognize it (they’ll have read reports involving it). So Smoker knows about it because he’s smart enough to research to do his job better, and Tashigi is aware it exists, although if she saw someone using Armament, it might take a while for her to realize it’s Haki and not a DF. Observation Haki is obviously a lot harder to see in use, and Conquerer’s, while not classified knowledge, is a lot more obscure.

Infantry in the Blues mostly wouldn’t have a clue about Haki, while Grand Line infantry would likely to have standing orders to run away really fast or stall until an officer could arrive.

Writing for swapped-out hilt.

I was disgusted by your lack of crits during the fighting, can’t believe you missed out on a dramatic awakening during your first battle. Shame on you all.

>bond through stabbing

“Sounds good!” You perk up, because apparently you’ve developed a taste for sparring since your Academy days. Probably because you’ve somehow got weirdly good at it. Was the Academy just not a good environment for you? Was there something holding you back, there? Was everyone else just that much better?

You don’t know, and you don’t really care. It feels like you’ve learned more about combat here, in the past couple of days, than you have in the Academy in a whole year.

In any case, Tashigi looks delighted at the thought of a spar, and happily lead you to a smaller training room, where you won’t have to worry about an audience (or annoy people with your bloodstained uniforms).

“Which weapon do you want to use?” Tashigi draws her own katana as she gets into position.

>>
I wonder if we spent time extensively cleaning/maintaining our weapons if that would add points to the awakening meter?

Good thing to try; kinda reminds me of Bleach, where awakening a Zanpakuto was all about spending time together and caring for it.

If you witness triple-wielding (and you’re reasonably proficient in dual wielding) you can totally get points in triple wielding by watching how he does it. And yes, becoming a master of all weaponry is possible. Now 5at I think about it, I really need to get you guys to vote for your dream/ambition some time soon...

>>3303978
Someone voted to get a maintenance kit earlier, and I wondered when you guys were gonna pick up on that.

>96, 77 = 108, 85. +2 bonus to each for rolling two 77s in the same roll, = 110, 87. Crit adds +1 to ??? Skill, now 10/10. ??? Skill unlocked, currently uncontrolled. +1 to ??????.

In answer, you draw both Cut-chan and your katana.

“... Okay, then,” says Tashigi, clearly nonplussed. “Begin!”

You do. It’s certainly trickier working with two swords, but you really need to practice with your katana, and how could you abandon Cut-chan?

Tashigi is, of course, going easy on you - this is an opportunity for her to try out things she wouldn’t dare risk messing up in a real fight - but you still manage to push her back by dint of parrying her katana slashes with Cut-chan, your own katana slicing out st her chest. Her own katana disengages smoothly, twirling expertly around Cut-chan to bat your katana aside, stepping in to your guard.

Step back, cross your swords, she angles her blade through, but you catch it between ours, locking it in place - she draws it back-down-forwards, stabbing in a sharp thrust at your stomach, sidestep, she’s already aiming at your exposed side, Cut-chan blocks, your katana slashing at her own side, she twists her body to avoid it, katana moving to slice at your exposed wrist, step around her -

You’re not quite as fast and smooth with your katana, but Cut-chan continues to meld to your grasp, and you could swear that for an instant, you can feel an intensity from her, something that pulls her instinctively to one side to parry a blow that you barely even saw coming (how did you do that?) and -

The pair of you fall back, Tashigi looking cheery, chest rising and falling faster than normal, while you feel (and probably look) like you’ve run a marathon, panting hard.

“That was really good! There’s not many people who could dual wield like that without training!”

(+2 to dual wielding)

This.

So random funny thought about awakened swords. If they get human avatars we could get our own camera crew.
>>
>>3304011
Awakening is currently at 3/15, but even when you hit 15, she’s still going to be ‘asleep’ apart from the occasional moment of alertness. She’ll start being awake longer/more often with time/training/bonding, but but it’s a long way to go.

You got a brief spark of its potential last update, comboing with your awakening Observation Haki, which you’re as yet unaware of.

Writing now, and just do you know we’re going to have a week or so timeskip after, so there’ll be a few votes to do for next update.
>>
>>3304025
So how is leveling up Observation Haki going to work? Is it going to be skill level 1: [1/10] where we need 9 more crits to level up to 2, or will it be just a +1 to skill with each breakthrough?.
>>
>educate me, sisteru

“Where would you say I’m at, skill-wise? Be honest.” It’s hard to get the words out around the panting, but at least you!re understandable.

Tashigi takes a moment to consider. “Well, you’re very good for a fresh Academy graduate, with your swords and jitte. I haven’t seen your shooting, but I guess you’re going to just be doing melee?
“You’ve got the basics down solidly, so now it’s just a matter of the more complicated techniques, and maybe picking up some moves from other styles. Marine Standard is a good starting style, but too many criminals are familiar with it, and it isn’t the best for all situations. More experience would be good, obviously, and it help if you fought against different types of opponents and weaponry, so you could get used to attacks of different speeds and strengths. And, uh, you really need to work on your fitness, because you’re as fast or strong as you should be. There’s were a couple of strikes there that were too easy for me to force away, and it wasn’t because you were letting me. More stamina would help, too.”

You nod fervently, simultaneously determined and disappointed by how much you have to improve. Good for a rookie Ensign, but not good enough.

“And what about a really good maintenance kit? Do you know where I could get one?”

“I know a shop that does great ones!” She looks delighted at the opportunity to advertize it. “I’ll show you tomorrow, it’ll already have closed by now. The ones you’ve been using are fine, but they’re just base standard. You really need to -“

What follows is the most in-depth explanation ofhow to care for a blade that you’ve ever heard. Does the type of cloth really matter? Is the oil brand that big a deal? Are there really that many types of whetstone? Apparently, yes to all three. At least you can have probably the second-best kept swords in East Blue now, after Tashigi.

>>3304050
In combat/spars, I or you will roll to see if Observation Haki activates (If you crit a combat role above 110 it’ll activate automatically anyway) It’ll be another 10points to get to level 2 at which point it should become more obvious to you what exactly is going on. (I might do a couple of roles generally for it spontaneously activate during non-combat as well).

If you guys ICly and reasonably figure out what’s happened (and no, I won’t just allow you to suddenly decide to read a book on Haki), you can start actively training it.

Next update will be timeskip votes, please wait while I figure out how it’ll work.

>ONE WEEK TIMESKIP

You can safely assume that for this week:
>You bought a high-quality sword maintenance kit (and Tashigi eagerly taught you how to use it).
>You trained more in cutlass, katana, jitte and dual-wielding (+2 to each)
>You tracked down some more criminals and took their photos with a disappointing lack of shenanigans (+5 to photography)
>You trained your body (+2 to general fitness)
>You socialized with Smoker, Tashigi, Mina and Klaus (the latter very reluctantly).
>You got the tattoo at least half-finished.
>Your jitte has been ordered but has not yet been completed (will be next week).

NOW FOR THE VOTES; PICK 3 EXTRA TO FOCUS ON.
>More sword training (Cutlass and Katana Skills +2, dual wielding +1)
>More jitte training (Jitte +2, dual wielding +1)
>Get the rest of the tattoo completed.
>More photography practice (+3 to photography)
>Navigation training (navigation +3)
>Pistol training (pistols +3, dual-wielding +1)
>Pick up a non-combat hobby (variable bonus to a hobby skill, pick which)
>Flirting with women (/men/anyone who stands still long enough) (I’ll make a seduction roll for this; you can also take this as a fourth action FOR FREE if you want to deliberately auto-fail it)
>Other?

I'm assuming taking care of our weapons is lumped in with buying a nice kit. If not, then I'll switch off from jitte training to

I think we're already too specialized in melee to try and focus on pistol as well. Also melee range means whenever we take the outfit off, we get a surprise round thanks to our sick ass tats impressing the enemy.

Right let's get these gains

Picking to AUTOFAIL
>Flirting with women (/men/anyone who stands still long enough) (I’ll make a seduction roll for this; you can also take this as a fourth action FOR FREE if you want to deliberately auto-fail it)

And then take
>More sword training (Cutlass and Katana Skills +2, dual wielding +1)
>More jitte training (Jitte +2, dual wielding +1)
>Pistol training (pistols +3, dual-wielding +1
To get those dual wielding points and also
>Get rest of tattoo completed
Because it needs to get done at some point
>>
>>3304084
>Get the rest of the tattoo completed
>More sword training (Cutlass and Katana Skills +2, dual wielding +1)
>More jitte training (Jitte +2, dual wielding +1)
>>
>>3304084
>More sword training (Cutlass and Katana Skills +2, dual wielding +1)
>More jitte training (Jitte +2, dual wielding +1)
>Get the rest of the tattoo completed.

>>
>>3304084
>More sword training (Cutlass and Katana Skills +2, dual wielding +1)
>Pistol training (pistols +3, dual-wielding +1)
>More jitte training (Jitte +2, dual wielding +1)

All In combat bonuses. We can finish the tattoo later.
>>
>>3304103
>>3304084
Wow I actually can't read huh. Ignore my first vote, put me down for
>More sword training (Cutlass and Katana Skills +2, dual wielding +1)

>Get the rest of the tattoo completed
>>
>>3304084

You know, OP brought up that Flashman needs a dream going forward and I was curious what you guys thought should be his dream.

I mean, we have several Interests It seems to me. Mastering different weapons and fighting styles, taking photos, being a complete smartass and capturing or felling dangerous pirates, but what do you think Flashmans core motivating dream should be?

Maybe photography could be something more personal for Flashman? Maybe his dream could be to take the perfect picture, of the perfect moment. A dream to bring a single, perfect beauty across all the seas and go down In history for It

Or maybe It's exactly what we told Kidd before we sent him to his death, we want to meet all the most famous and Infamous pirates of the world and take their picture and capture them.

I've come to realize that I don't actually know all that much about Flashmans past which would help me decide personally.

>>3304084
Hey OP, can you tell us some more about Flashman's earlier years, what he knows of his parents (If anything) who raised him, who he might have known growing up Cue OC friend we will meet later opportunity and stuff like that?
>>
>>3304202
Some of these are answered already last thread

>Parents
Flashy has no clue, grew up in an orphanage.

>Early years
Grew up in an orphanage on a small Island near Marineford. Island had a pretty small town vibe which Flashman didn't get on with, which is why he took the first chance to leave the island that came along (Marine academy)

>Friends
Even if he did have a BFF, since we're like 80% likely to be travelling with papa and sis when they chase after Luffy we realistically aren't gonna be meeting them unless Flashy is at Ace's execution (could pop by his home Island then). The picture the QM paints is that his home Island is like Ussop and Kaya's one where you only get off if you're a pirate, a marine or a merchant sailor.
>>
>>3304114
Thought about it, switching my votes here to:
>More photography practice (+3 to photography)
Because it’s our actual job
>More sword training (Cutlass and Katana Skills +2, dual wielding +1)
Because it’s a dangerous job
And
>Train our body more
Because our stamina needs work and can honestly supplement most other things
>>
>>3304084
>More sword training (Cutlass and Katana Skills +2, dual wielding +1)
>More jitte training (Jitte +2, dual wielding +1)
>Get the rest of the tattoo completed

>More sword training (Cutlass and Katana Skills +2, dual wielding +1)
>More jitte training (Jitte +2, dual wielding +1)

If we're tagging along on the Luffy hunt then we need to git gud at the weapons we're showing the most promise with. Also I agree with >>3304102 in that it looks like we'll be specializing in melee (especially since we're going down the 'bring cut-chan to life' route), and learning pistols might be too much on our plate at this point in time.

Thing is Flashman is 18 I believe, and you can still get taller till I believe around 21. Flashman isprobably not gonna be his dad's height, but he'll definitely be over 6 feet.

Just so up you know, guys, it gets harder to raise points as you go higher. Before, you were getting a +1 for every couple of spare, now you'll start to need moren spars or stronger opponents.

The good news is that now you're more fit, Klaus and Smoker can give you more training so your gains will increase a little anyway.

Looks like writing for back to daily for a while. Just say if you want a timeskip.
>>
>back to daily

It's the beginning of a beautiful week.

Your tattoo is finally finished, the gauze off, and it looks... Well, spectacular. Amazing. A work of art. You spend ten minutes at the parlor, swooning at it in a full-body mirror, before Clara gets fed up and kicks you out.

On top of that, your jitte arrived. It might not be a fancy seastone one like the bossman's, but it's far better than your wooden one, even if it has the same hilt (admittedly wrapped for grip so you want see it, anyway).

Training is going well. You haven't made Smoker snap and murder you yet (probably because you keep volunteering to help with paperwork). Klaus is... tolerable, despite still calling you prettyboy.

That's where you are, now, in fact; 7am, with Klaus, ready to get your ass kicked. No - ready to kick HIS ads. Right.

You ready yourself, Cut-chan in hand. "Come at me, bro!"

Klaus yawns.
