The prophesized time has come! The QMs are returning from all across time and space....

I have regained some of my life back so I am going to see if I can't run at least a couple threads and move the story of our favorite Planetary governor forward....

Last we left off we had responded to news of Bloodpact activity in the Purveyon system, chasing away their fleet and engaging enemy ground forces on the one of the planets in the system, a red dusty desert world, it appears to have ruins dotting its surface. Our men, with the help of our Astartes allies have attacked one of the enemy bases on the planet, an ancient ruin complex that appears to be some sort of Palace or Temple, and have succesfully cleared it and secured it while the Bloodpact still hold a large fortified camp around an escavation site......

Our men have succesfully taken over defenses ringing the complex, utilizing the trenches and heavy weapons emplacements left behind by fleeing and slain bloodpact troops to repel at least one large counter attack by the remaining enemy forces....

The enemy forces still seem to have a large number of vehicles and aircraft and are still in good order with high moral, and seem to be organizing for a large assault on your troops.....

A. Have our men hold their positions for the time being....
B. Wait for the enemy to leave their encampment and launch a counter-attack of our own
C. Launch a first-strike on the enemy encampment while they are organizing for their attack

Close watch is kept on the enemy camp, by scout teams hiding among the sanddunes and craggy rocky outcroppings While the fleet in orbit keeps watch from above with their pict-graphs, after a day of patient waiting, with most of your troops redeployed into an aggressive stance, you wait for the inevitable enemy sortie....
>>
Rolled 32 (1d100)

>>3314467
49, a mediocre outcome....

In the rest of the battle your bonuses are negated by the Bloodpact being an elite, veteran force as well so they receive the same bonuses

It seems the bloodpact, once again have proven to be better than the average heretic warband, and had their own scouts hidden amongst the desert terrain, allowing them to react to our own force moving to meet them...

The battle has gone on to be inconclusive with each sides tanks engaging at long range, while aircraft duel above, with both sides not claiming any kills, but several aircraft were heavily damaged on both sides, given that your Xiphon interceptors were badly outnumbered by the enemy fighters they made a good accounting of themselves....

On the ground several Leman Russ tanks and chimeras have been destroyed or crippled, with several confirmed vehicle kills against the bloodpact troops...

Your army attempts to use a frontal assault on the center and a flanking attack on the right side of the enemy armor to cut off the right side and wipe it out.....
>>
>>3314502
The attack is an abject failure, with the loss of many vehicles and their veteran crews. With the failure to break the enemy line, and their morale, your forces are at a disadvantage in terms of armor and aircraft, and as it stands now it will take months to rebuild your mechanized regiment with new vehicles and trained replacement troops....

If you fall back and the enemy stays out in the open, it may be possible to launch an orbital strike and destroy much of their strength

A. Fall back to our defenses
B. Try to attack once again

You have the men pull back, abandoning destroyed and crippled vehicles to the enemy, while this is happening you have your men sweep the area for enemy scouts, with several found hiding in the desert landscape around the battle....

Morale is low due to the high casualties in the failed attack but your men are now settled back into their defensive positions, the trenches and other fortfications giving them some protection from incoming fire....

Seeing your men falling back the enemy has immediately regrouped and launched an attack...

+10 defensive bonus

54 an average outcome....

The defense manages to fend off the assault, although at heavy loss and without inflicting heavy enough casualties on the enemy, who are expected to attempt another attack immediately...
>>
>>3314837
Your men are starting to grow thin on the ground as they succesfully once again hold back the heretic surge, but at high cost, with the regiments on the ground taking 30-50% casualties and reporting the loss of most front-line officers....

The enemy has finally taken enough punishment to fall back to their encampment around the escavation site.....

Whats our next move? (this is a write-in)

93, a major success

The enemy troops in the trenches and their emplacements fight hard, but poorly, as its clear that they are not only running low on ammo and fuel, but food and medicine as well, as many of the enemy troops seem to be "walking wounded" fighting although some have sustained wounds that should be being treated and allowed to rest rather than continuing to fight...

The enemy anti-tank weapons held back until close range due to their low ammo, and allowed our infantry and vehicles to overwhelm them, the same goes for much of their anti-personnel weapons, mainly their bolters and auto-cannons....

After blowing a hole through their defenses with your mechanized forces, your elite mechanized infantry disembark from their chimera transports and fan out into the enemy encampment, overwhelming the enemy defenders as more and more of your troops flood into the gap....

After the long battles on Purveyon, your men's blood is up, and they show mercy to the bloodpact troops....

Without fuel the enemy vehicles and aircraft mostly sit in a nearby lot, proving to be little help against the troops overwhelming the base....
>>
>>3315370
An inventory of captured enemy equipment shows us that we captured a fair number of leman russ tanks, chimera and a 2 full squadrons and replacement parts worth of Avengers, Thunderbolts and Lightning aircraft, giving us a small atmospheric airforce...

The first question following our victory is what to do with the members of the 9th Kraveth Garrison regiment, who were captured and forced to fight for the Bloodpact, many of them surrendered without a fight in the temple complex....

A. Have them executed for their treason and heresy
B. Sentence them to hard labor for 10 years
C. Form them into penal squads, used for suicide attacks and extremely dangerous missions
D. Put them through checks for heresy and security screening and allow them to go free

You decide to screen the prisoners for signs of heresy and punish them with 10 years hard labor in the fields and in the mines to redeem themselves for the Emperor....

Upon examination of the escavation site, it seems the heretics were digging below the sands for the ruins of an ancient city, and collecting small red and black gems tossing aside all other artifacts as if they were trash....

Some interesting items are found in the commander's tent including a star map, with several systems marked on it, and some ancient tablets, that the commander was apparently examining...

Notes found nearby speak of an ancient Xenos civilization known as the Novari Imperiate who once ruled this region of the Galaxy....

Apparently they had great mastery of the warp, and were masters of warp technology. The Bloodpact believed they could find Novarian artifacts of great power on this world....

Further looks at the notes reveal that the gemstones, are almost like pyschic batteries, holding the absorbed souls of ancient Novari psykers, used to power their equipment and other items...

Back at the temple complex, it appears not to be a temple but some sort of palace instead, with a small self-contained city build into it....

Your men find that the Bloodpact had been attempting to unlock a smaller level, lowest in the facility but were unable to breach it, sealed with extremely heavy armored doors the signs of their attempted use of explosives on it are obvious from the multiple blast marks marring their surface.....

It is possible that a concerted mining operation could eventually open the doors, given that we have access to heavy mining drills and lasers back on Tarkon IV....

You decide to request a ship to arrive with mining equipment in order to get through the heavy doors....

Your men cycle through back to Tarkon IV while a few infantry regiments take up garrison positions fortifying your encampments on the surface in the few weeks before the mining equipment arrives, consisting of several heavy drills and a massive mining laser....

It takes a few days for one of Xeroth's techpriest diciples to have set up before they go to work on the heavy doors....

Finally after over a week of drilling a small tunnel is finally bored through the door, large enough for a man to crawl through....

A small party enters and reports finding what looks like living quarters, a throne room and a treasure room, among other things....

After a larger hole is bored, some equipment and a large team is brought in to survey the rooms, the walls being covered in intricate carvings depicting Xenos and humans soldiers seemingly fighting side by side against some other Xenos races, there are also depictions of crowned figures that match a set of statues in the treasure room...

In addition to some precious metals there are several large Novari gemstones and a seven statues of what you presume to be their leaders each wearing a crown, with the figure in the center wearing the largest crown of all.

Finally you find what seems to be some sort of security control room, while most of the equipment is long worn out, powering on the system seems to indicate that some of the planetary systems are still operational....

A. Continue exploring the planet

The most of the walls light up with screens displaying a large amount of data, at first guessing looking like some sort of status report screen, with various options lit up and others darkened....

The techpriest tells you that he believes hes detected energy signatures and faint signals emitting from several locations on the surface sitting undergound....

You have small teams armed with mining equipment start escavating each location, it takes a few days to unearth what appear to be some sort of fort or military base, usually next to some sort of settlement while the specifics elude your men, any military man would recognize the obvious anti-orbital weapons on these bases....

After a few weeks of further escavation it becomes clear that it represents an network of orbital defense positions on the planet and several ancient cities below the stone and sand on the surface of the planet....

Further inspection of the forts reveal a small number of Xenos military vehicles, and a several small armories full of Xenos body armor and rifles

Finally each orbital defense fort seems to have a powerful scanning area, far more powerful than Imperial Augur scanners seeming to peer several systems away... On first glance it appears to be powered by massive Novari gemstones, meaning its likely some sort of warptech....

You decide to make a deal with Xeroth, allowing him and his followers access to the site, in exchange for the results of his research, a small cash payment and the promise that he will add his own forces to the security of the planet...

Overall you will break even on establishing a long-term outpost on Purveyon Secundus, but the benefits of recovered Xeno Technology will be immense long-term if the excited chatter of the techpriests is any indication.....

In the initial research to translate the Novari language you discover that the crowns on the statues are more than mere symbolic pieces of jewelry, that the according to the texts "piece the veil of reality"

It is believed that they are each embedded with a Novari Psystone and are emitting a small warp signature....

You opt to secure the crowns, and have the Crusaders of Dorn Librarian,Brannock examine them...

Upon examination he believes they serve as powerful Psychic focuses, improving a users Psychic power dramatically, and can even grant non-pyskers minor pysker powers, while protecting them from most of the risks of the warp....

With Psyker ratings ranging from Epsilon to Alpha in power, the Lord's Crowns(6) can turn a baseline human into a Epsilon(level 1) grade pysker, while the King's Crown(1) can turn one into a Delta grade(level 2)(You sister is Epsilon grade btw)

It is believed from the brief studies done by Brannock, that such a device is powered by the Novari soulstones, and that their powers have mostly to do with divination, but with training the crowns could be used to enhance the other Pysker diciplines....

What shall we do with this knowledge?

With the planet more or less handed over to the Admech, you leave a few garrison regiments to protect the research and escavation sites and take the rest of your troops home....

Back on Tarkon IV, the planet has continued to see growth and development during the expedition to Purveyon...

It seems that several of the refugees from more advanced industrialized worlds have started businesses in the Capital City, the most notable being an arms company, producing revolver pistols, along with percussion cap rifles and muskets, which have quickly taken off among local nobleman and their retinues and private armies......

Your little brother, Karl Franz, in his capacity of Mayor and Administrator of the Capital region, has gone ahead and armed the local Gendarme with these weapons....

You decide to enter in public-private partnership with some these industrialists, taking proposals regarding potential new projects, offering government support and investment in exchange for some of the profits....

We already have a food canning factory, along with factories that produce shoes, fertilizer and cement, owned by private businesses, in addition to the new arms company....

Several proposals come across your desk....

The first is the most ambitious by far, but would likely have the most results...

The idea is to build a number of highpowered locomotive engines, along with tracks and various railcars to pull behind them, teams would be sent out to lay the tracks initially focused on connecting larger cities and major industrial and extraction sites....

The second proposal is also very interesting, the same owners of the automobile plant would like to move into the aeronautics business, (gravity on Tarkon IV is almost 10% lighter than on earth, resulting in taller people and easier flight), they propose to use heated air in balloons, combined with a small engine powering propellers to move a small aircraft around, while obvious commercial and military applications are not clear, there are already designs drawn up for much larger craft, capable of moving goods or passengers around Tarkon, without being bound by roads or difficult terrain....

Finally, the same family that owns the boot factory, is moving into coats, gloves and heavy clothing in general, and plan to set up a new factory near the Capital City
