You’d rather not interject with so much information flowing freely from the Banshee. Aibell is seemingly lost in her explanations, her voice moving rapidly as she continues to speak.

“Perhaps it isn’t the correct or even logical choice. Everything in this world has become perverted through destruction. How Hellsing or yourself factor into the grand scheme I don’t know. I just remember what the last few hundred years were. Everything else is...fragmented.”

Aibell rubs at her temples, and briefly you remember Nixie’s presence as she wraps her arms over your shoulders and pulls you closer.

“So much death Jäger. I don’t think any member of humanity could comprehend the number of souls we saw extinguished. Then we started hunting. Entire armies gone overnight from our sisters. We grew powerful, drunk on death. I think we liked it.”

For a brief moment you see the Banshee of old before you, her skin cracking and flaking like paint chips as it falls from her face to reveal the twisted gray visage beneath. Clumps of hair fall to the ground in ragged heaps as her hair becomes disheveled and matted with gore.

“That’s what I keep coming back to Jäger. You. How is it that a Banshee, albeit a weak one is bound rather then sent back to the depths of nothing to reform. Hellsing would have just slain us, and continued on their merry weigh. You did something else, and even showed compassion after.”

Briefly, your first experience on the train comes to mind. The dark cabin and the golden watch that seemed the lynchpin of your encounter with the Choir. You reach over to the floor, picking up your trousers and fishing through the stained pockets for the cold lump of metal. The pocket watch glints briefly in the light as you hold it up in front of Aibell. Her eyes widen, her jaw hanging slack at the piece of intricate machinery you dangle in front of her.

“Uhermacher...Uhermacher…”

She repeats the word a few times, as if it is foreign on her tongue.

“What is an Uhermacher Aibell. You’re speaking in tongues as far as I’m concerned.”

You’re familiar of what a watch is, though how being a watchmaker relates to this is just mysticism to you. Despite the circumstances that had come to swirl around it, the shattered timepiece in your hand was nothing more than just a timepiece.

“Uhermachers, Germany’s equivalent to Hellsing though far older. Your kind were once nothing more than tribal bandits, entrenched in old magic and mysticism. The Uhermachers harken back to that age, the finest hunters of the dark places. As technology took over the world they evolved with it, a secretive order bent on entwining the science of man with the strangeness of the old world.”

Aibell tenderly reaches out, her finger lightly touching the watch before recoiling to leave the golden timepiece swaying in the air.

“The Choir was revered by them, goddesses of the old age that ferried there kind to deeper places rather than the fake lights of your worlds religions. When the war broke and our purpose changed they took it as an affront to their existence. Our first and strongest victory was wiping them from the earth, our old companions turned enemies.”

Aibell watches in an almost trance like state as the watch in your hand sways side to side in the air. You find yourself hypnotized as well, deep whispers and the gnashing of teeth slinking through the back of your skull.

“Whether you are a descendant of a lost line, or simply stumbled into fate I cannot tell you. The Uhermacher is why I was so weak, why I was called to you. During their extermination I was defeated by them, sent to the void to reform. Whatever old magic is left in that shattered gold has bound me to you.”

You aren’t quite sure what to do with this knowledge, especially the information that Aibell was one of the weakest of the Choir.

How do you respond and take this?
>>
>>3321578

“You were...the weakest? Before or after you got slain?”

Aibell laughs, her soft giggle akin to shattering glass.

“I wasn’t much before, but even less after. A Banshee is as strong as the souls we take, used as a shield from weapons like that revolver. Your normal weapons do nothing more than slow us down.”

She reaches under her rear, lifting the shovel she had been sitting on.

“This beauty however, smells of magic. Perhaps stained in so much monstrous blood of old gave you enough of an edge to give me the killing blow. Just keep in mind, my sisters are far more powerful than I at my best. The Queen of the Choir is beyond everything but death.”

That isn’t a very pleasing thought, Hauptmann died from a single strike and as did you and nearly everyone else that had ran into Aibell. Still, if she is with you now as an ally it would be best to keep it that way.

“You’re by my side now Aibell, and I’d be pleased if you stayed here until we saw this war through. After that perhaps you could go back to the old ways.”

Aibell’s eyes shine briefly, the ghost of a tear misting over the brilliant greens of her irises.

“Thank you Jäger, Uhermacher. I’d like that, I’d like to see the world happy again.”

You nod in agreement, noticing now the slow pace of breathing in your ear as Nixie had fallen asleep.

“Can I bind the Queen like you?”

Aibell laughed, much louder this time and for a brief moment you felt she was laughing at you.

“Your enthusiasm in the face of certain death is admirable, but I doubt that greatly. You’d have to peel away thousands if not hundreds of thousands of souls from her veil. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll have my assistance.”

You didn’t expect much else from that question, the sheer gap in skill and power rendering you and your squad little more than insects to be squashed by any more of Aibell’s ilk, much less the veritable goddess.

The lantern light flickers over the room, a dull orange that soothes your racing mind. Briefly, the smell of Nixie tickles your nose, moss and flowers that remind you of times you never knew. You glance to the watch in your palm, tracing the intricate designs over the surface lightly.

“Tell me more about the Uhermachers. Anything that could help.”
>>
Aibell looks up thoughtfully, trying to remember whatever fragments of her shattered persona could help the both of you.

“Practitioners of a strict discipline adhering to the passage of time. Nothing as overt as moving through the annals of history mind you, but they could bend the speed of it to their will. They walked through the gloom as fast or slow as they liked. It made combat with them...painful. Whatever teachings of this they had are surely lost, though some may have survived.”

Aibell falls silent, clearly trying to remember more.

“Much like your revolver they used weapons imbued with the powers of old, very effective against humanity and monsters alike. Not many things can survive their soul being shattered, and those that can are better left unmentioned.”

Any further questions or responses?
>>
>>3321714
>no more questions, just hold her hand
>or lay back down with nixie
>>
>>3321714
>What is this hellsing, and can you inform us more about the revolver and thank you for answering these. If you remember anything more in the future tell us?
>>
>>3321731
Aibell has told us previously that Hellsing is a british organization much like the Uhermacher, though focused solely on monster hunting. She thought them defeated by Dracula, but the revolver with their insignia is proof of their continued battle. The weapon is magic imbued, meant to kill monsters.
>>
>>3321735
Oh well oof. Uh... Then I guess head pats and a shovel cleaning.

Guess we have questions for the old man himself then... Who gave us this object btw?
>>
>>3321740

You reach out, grabbing Aibell’s hand as you set the watch on the nightstand. The Banshee stiffens for a moment, a rising blush coming across her features as she raises her free hand to her mouth, nibbling on her nails nervously. With your free hand you wrap your arm around Nixie, keeping her close to you. Even in her sleep she pushes her face against your neck and nuzzles you happily. You could stay like this forever without noting the passage of time, a true happiness you only so rarely experienced. Unfortunately time was of the essence with Operation Gottzunge and you’d have to rise sooner or later.

You:

[1] Went to the armory, gear yourself and Nixie

Much as you’d like to lie in the pleasing warmth of the lamp light with Nixie and Aibell by your side you pull yourself to your feet, donning your stained uniform. The wool scratches at your skin, not even remotely as soft as Nixie’s skin. Aibell smoothes her dress, rising to her feet and handing you the shovel you so cherish. Affixing it to your hip, a slight pop greets your ears as she ceases to exist before you and returns to her bladed home. Nixie stirs, groggy with sleep and post coital bliss.

“Do you want me with you Jäger or in your pocket. They’ll have to see me sooner or later, just a matter of how you want the introduction to go.

You:

“Get in uniform Nixie, might as well let them get used to your presence now.”

Nixie nods, moving lazily out of the bed and into the fresh pressed woolen clothes that look so clean it makes you jealous. Emmerich must have given her a set, as she had been fighting in nothing but a makeshift robe of pilfered cloaks when you were in the trenches. The camo patterned Strumptruppen uniform fits snugly in all the right places, and you find your eyes lingering despite what you had just recently done with her.

After a few minutes of trying to quickly drill the concept of marching into her you’re on the verge of giving up as her words are nothing but expletives about human footsteps and how much better leaves feel as clothing. Despite the setbacks, the two of you set out through the train, passing the armory and living quarters until you reach the common area.

Klaus and Otto are still deep in their game of cards, now joined by Siegfried and Hauptmann who had wagered what ammunition they carried as well. Siegfried’s pile is much larger than the rest, his gambling proclivities and luck showing themselves once more though you dearly hope this won’t end like the bar. His booming laughter fills the room as he once more clears the pot, Otto and Klaus staring at him hard eyed as Edward throws down his hand in defeat.

Gertrude looks up from her chair towards the group hungrily, her greatcoat in her lap and a sewing needle in her hands as she lovingly repairs a split in the stitching. Arms and stomach bare, the only clothing she wears now are the baggy pants and tight leather strapping that holds her breasts steady against her chest, though they seem to be fighting against the material. She looks odd, her face perpetually replaced by the gas mask that adorns all the Barren.

The door shutting behind you draws the attention of the group. Each of them look up expectantly, their expressions replaced with surprise as Nixie marches next to you. Gertrude stands ramrod straight, her needle still in hand.

“When you said Fae I didn’t know you meant Fae Jäger. Christ almighty look at those tits.”

Otto is the first to speak, the brash man tempered by a lifetime of war and breeding that left his thoughts open to everyone around him. Siegfried laughed, clasping the man on the shoulder with his prosthetic.

“Good to see you up again Nixie, ready for another round in the trenches?”

Your friend is all smiles, the reunion doing much to lift his spirits. Edward simply nods at the two of you, and Klaus remains silent. You’re about to begin the briefing when Gertrude bends one of the Barren rules and lifts the lower portion of her gasmask. All you can see is fire tanned skin and plump red lips, but her sniffing is audible from here.

“Smell like sex.”

Ignoring the veritable bloodhound of hormonal rage in front of you, you stand straight and clasp your hands behind your back in an effort to emulate Hauptmann whenever he gave a briefing. Edward smiles slightly, crossing his arms over his chest as if amused.

“Don’t worry about salutes and the like, I don’t hold rank over any of you. Hell even Kartoffel over there outranks me.”

Siegfried laughs, then quickly silences himself to a snicker. To your right, Nixie is staring daggers at the gas masked Barren across from you both.

“General Emmerich has picked me to lead an Operation he calls Gottzunge. We’re to head back to a laboratory outside Berlin. In it, we have been tasked with finding the whereabouts of a particular subject called Queen of the Choir. A Banshee in the flesh. Her continued prisonership is vital to the war effort and understand of the human soul. As of a few days ago this area has gone dark, and we’ve been tasked with finding out why.”

You find the briefing comes naturally, natural leadership taking over for you.

“This research station wasn’t solely focused on this however, from the General’s words they’ve been toying with the idea of using Alpha Ghuls as combatants. Secondary objective is to rescue any and all surviving members of the research team.”

“With that spoken allow me to introduce you to something similar to what we’ll be hunting. Keep your weapons down, she isn’t going to kill anything.”

You realize Aibell had been standing behind you, watching you intently though still not visible to the rest of the unit. She steps forward now, a faint shimmer and a pop following behind her as if she displaced the very air.

Gertrude is the first to rise, yanking that affectionately named shortsword from the sheathe on her back. Hauptmann is nearly as fast, rage crossing over his eyes as they flick between you and the Banshee.

“Jäger you better explain quickly, lest this place becomes a bloodbath.”

Aibell speaks for the rest of them it seems, her voice a strangely pleased tone.

You didn’t quite expect this to go without a hitch, but it’s better to do it now so they know what they’re up against.

Let her speak.

Have her talk about banshees and how only magical weapons can truly harm them. Also maybe drop in that she is on the weaker end of most banshees and we will be going up against a banshee queen.

“Don’t worry Edward. She is no threat to any of us now. By some strange magicks she is bound to me in undeath. With her knowledge, though spotty, we’re far more prepared for what we’ll be facing.”

Aibell nodded at you, looking over the room. Her eyes slowly changed colors, a kaleidoscope that changed to shades quite inhuman.

“What Dietrich says is true. It seems as though some of you already suspected something to begin with, whether a smell of magic or something else. The Banshee’s you may face will look nothing like me.”

Aibell gestures to her almost royal figure, the spotless white dress and pale skin. Slowly, the Banshee you and your friends know takes form. Shreds of skin peel away like paint, leaving cracked and grey rot beneath. Her nose falls away, melting into the carpet and leaving an open wound of cartilage. You look away as her eyes fall out, empty sockets staring into the void as her mouth splits into a grin.

Aibell begins to speak, her voice layering over itself in a manner as which to drive you mad. You can’t help but wince as each syllable resonates with the gnashing of teeth in the back of your brain. Casting your glance over the others, you can see they too hear it.

“We harvest the living to strengthen ourselves, using their souls to grow our power. When you face a Banshee, you face every one of those damned. I was one of the weakest, if not the weakest. You’re hunting the Queen, master of our song. Your weapons will do nothing more than slow her down, only magic and fire can harm us.”

Gertrude scoffs at this, looking to her flamer.

Aibell continues, far more an expert in this field than you are.

“How your Empire managed to capture her I don’t know the specifics. What I do know however, is that her only equal is the Reaper herself.”

Otto scoffs at this, clearly unimpressed with the member of the Choir.

“Monsters are all the same, and die the same as well. You’re telling me we’re supposed to just roll over for this inhuman bitch then? You sign off on that Jäger?”

Otto’s words weren’t entirely unexpected, his brash mannerisms and confidence in the way he carried himself showing the years of successful combat the man was so proud of. Aibell seems unperturbed by the outburst, the grin widening to show blackened gums and white bone of her jaw.

“You can fight the inevitable all you wish Herr Fischer, but we are the inevitable made form. Godless death made flesh, inexorable march of the end made living. Posturing and prowess mean nothing against old magicks and terror. You can taste the mettle of your blade and find it bites only shadow and long rotten bones.”

The wicked dark blade Aibell had wielded materializes before her bosom, still stained red with gore. The color drains from Hauptmann’s face, and his eyes focus on a distant point in the room as he relieved the killing blow he received all so recently. The shadows of the room darken, lengthening to absurd heights that bleed the light from the room.

“Don’t be too mad when I cut up your pretty whore Jäger. I promise I can make her look better at least with some facial reconstruction.”

Otto seems intent on crossing blades with Aibell, and by the poise in her back Gertrude would be more than happy to join in. You know Aibell wouldn’t kill them, and their weapons would do nothing to her.

“Stay your blade Otto, the only outcome of this is a loss and needless tension. Aibell is here to help. Ask Edward what fighting a Banshee is like, or Siegfried, or Nixie. They can tell you, hell I can tell you.”

Otto looks at you, his eyes narrowing as he looks between you and the rotted corpse of Aibell standing to your right. His mouth opens to speak, but Edward’s voice silences him.

“Jäger is right. Were it not for...Aibell, I would not be a Wulfstruppen now. How many rounds we shot into her I don’t know, some of them surely blessed with magick. Don’t think I hadn’t taken note of your weapon Jäger.”

Edward steps forward, passing by Otto as he looks Aibell up and down. The man stands a good six inches taller than her, yet seems torn on fleeing from the train the closer he gets.

“It isn’t just the Banshee you face Otto. You face the dead and the damned. We hacked through loops of intestines and gore that was intent on choking the life from our body. When we thought her dead, nothing more than a smear on the wall from Siegfried’s shotgun she stood and disemboweled me...while laughing.”

Otto snorted, still gripping his knife tightly with knuckles white. Gertrude had seemed to relax a bit, though still unsure.

“If Aibell is the weakest of them, then I fear for our lives more than I did storming across No Man’s Land. Let her speak, and listen well.”

Edward stands before the Banshee, facing a living monster and his personal demons. Slowly light had returned to the cabin, thin shafts of sun bleeding through the windows diffused by acrid smoke and dirt. The lamps flickered weakly, casting dancing shadows that seem to laugh and dance over the walls with grinning skulls.

Aibell nodded to the broken man, the blade vanishing to the scent of ozone and superheated blood.

“For what it is worth, I’m sorry Hauptmann. Were we still the maidens of old I would have sung a song of mourning at the time of your death.”

Edward didn’t respond, choosing to turn and walk back beside Siegfried who seemed to be unshaken by the turn of events with Aibell. The Banshee’s voice rang out, far softer as her form slowly returned to that of a maiden.

“You’d do well not to engage any of The Choir, and do better not to engage the Queen. Flee, hide, fight as a last resort. Your mission is sure to be fraught with enemies to kill, I can assure you of this. Whatever is at play here may be more than just a simple containment breach, my senses tell me that at least.”

Aibell turns back to you, vanishing from the air with her piece said.
>>
The rest of the squad seems to droop slightly, tension draining from their shoulders as the Banshee leaves their sight. Gertrude is the first to speak, her expression hidden by the scorched mask.

“You hide all kinds of secrets Jäger, and I hope none are as sinister as that. I’ll accept it for now, though you’ll have to excuse me for reporting to Emmerich when this is over. A Fae is one thing, that monster is another entirely. You best be sure of where her loyalties lie, lest we all find that weapon buried deep in our backs. If that’s all you have to say about Gottzunge, I’d appreciate if we can get this underway. Surely Sauer would like to be moving as well.”

Do you have anything left to add?

I'd guessed it was some banshee followed one of the people into the facility and found the queen then set her free through sabotage, and a whole bunch of other monsters and shit got thrown into the mix. If the facility is "banshee proof" the queen is still in there. If not, either there is gonna be a hell of a lot of other banshees or shes gone and left.

I was hoping the General would have been in the next car on his way to watch how we were briefing the people, only to see and overhear everything.

Nah, Emmerich has his own objectives to accomplish. As his protege he trusts us enough to do a simple briefing, though I'm sure he wouldn't expect a Banshee to be part of it.
>>
>>3329124
I'm down for telling Emmerich, its just I was sleeping and couldn't bring it up in time.

Telling him would probably get him to arrange more suitable assets for him to open up for us. Could have asked him about the watch too, since it came from his train car drawer.
>>
“If Aibell thinks there is something more to this then we best keep our eyes out. The revolver kept in the armory currently, is one I found in an abandoned trench line. Apparently it is of British origin, meant for killing the dark things of this world. If they are aware of things like this I wouldn’t be surprised to run into their agents, so keep on edge.”

“You think Tommy is all the way back here behind the line? Nonsense, they’re scrambling to deal with Reichbrehcer. Thousands of Barren troops dropped into Paris and London will keep them occupied far away from the Berlin outskirts.”

Otto was critical of what you said, but even you could tell he was trying more to convince himself than you. Trench Ghuls and monstrosities were one thing, but facing another highly trained unit would throw the entire Operation into madness.

You nodded to Otto, partially agreeing with him, while trying not to think of Ivara somewhere in a burning city.

“Though I’d like to agree with you, we’d best be prepared. Jumping off what Aibell said, if fire can harm the Banshee’s then we’d all best have a way to burn them. Surely the armory aboard will help with that. Along with that, I ask that you trust her. She has had countless chances to kill me, yet has done nothing but help.”

You turned to Gertrude now, meeting the gaze of the giant woman.

“I’ll tell Emmerich myself. It’ll likely have me ending as a lab rat, but he will know.”

The Barren laughed slightly, waving her hand at you as she reached down to pick up her greatcoat.

“Have it your way Jäger. I trust your word.”

Having said all you planned to, you motioned them dismissed. Siegfried was all too quick to sit back at the table, grinning wolfishly at the others.

“Care to keep the game going? I’m sure your risky bets will pay off soon Otto.”

You heard Otto growl something in anger as you traversed through the door, finding yourself inside the engine room of the massive armored train. Sauer was bent double, tinkering with some valve set into the wall. At the sound of the door closing she stood, turning to face you.

“Jäger! Finally decided not to brush me off. Emmerich has told me the train is under your command, and that we have a mission as well. Point me in the direction and I’ll get us there. Just don’t make me push it too hard, the souls have been restless of late. Last thing we need is to go up in the blue fire.”

Sauer looked to the lamp on the wall, whispering softly at the ball of light that bounced erratically through its glass prison.

“Berlin outskirts, there’s a lab we must reach.”
>>
Sauer cocked an eye at you, then reached to the folder marked GOTTZUNGE, that you had picked up in Emmerich’s car. You weren’t the best with maps, and Sauer surely knew the railways better than you. Her brow furrowed as she looked the parchment over, laying it before you on the ground. You knelt to see the point she had her finger stuck over.

“Thankfully we can spend most of our trip underground, though we’ll have to go above to get through the Verdun line. Make sure the others know this, that place is home to all sorts of things best left unspoken of. The guns on this thing will be useless if we encounter anything there. Millions of revenants and Ghuls. The cannons will be far too slow for that sort of undertaking. If we can make it through fast we can hopefully do it without awakening anything else.”

Verdun, the blood pump of the war. Long forgotten now with the line moved forward, the forts still stood empty and decaying, ages old blood painting the walls. The Empire had deemed it a no go zone, the costlier logistics of moving around it worth far more than the hell that still lived through the walls. If Emmerich had cleared the train through Verdun then Gottzunge was very clearly vitally important to the war. You’d arrive there within days, much sooner than you’d hope.

“Have you been to Verdun Sauer? Seen it?”

Sauer grimaces, running a hand through her hair.

“I ran one of the last trains through before the no go zone was instituted. Entire divisions had been vanishing at that point, just disappearing off the map. I was carrying supplies through to the Somme, ammunition and the like. Onboard was just wounded and the medical crew required to keep them stable.”

Sauer turned from you, grabbing the worn wooden chair and spinning the back to you. She sat, facing you with her arms crossed over the high back of it. Keeping your eyes on her face and not the bulging breasts pressed against the wood, you notice just how fearful she is to even talk about it.

“When we were a few hundred kilometers out it was the smell that hit everyone first. The wounded in poorer shape were vomiting uncontrollably, that damnable stench working its way into everything. It was a perpetual rot, congealed blood and torn organs.”

Sauer grimaced, wrinkling up her face.

“I still smell it in my sleep. We hit the haze next, thick fog covers the place day and night rain or shine. Far thicker than any I have ever seen. The fog lights only managed to illuminate a few feet of track, so I slowed the train. Command had assured us the line was intact but the last thing I wanted to do was derail there. So we crawled through it, passing by fetid lakes of blood that bubbled and popped. The forts are still there you know, the ones not shelled to rubble. Those we could see for some reason, clear as day. I could swear I saw infantry fighting and dying.”

Sauer fell silent, gooseflesh creeping up your back as an image more vivid than any you had seen crawled into your mind. You were there, at Verdun, you could see it before you. The sounds, screams, and smells. Just the very name was heavy, Verdun. You blinked, Aibell having set a hand on your shoulder lightly. Sauer was staring at the floor, drool slipping from her lips into a slowly growing puddle.

“We’ll keep you safe Sauer. I’ll keep you safe. We have the some of the best of the Empire onboard and I’m sure Gertrude would be all too happy to set alight anything that moves there. Stay strong and keep the engine moving and I know we can get through. I’ll be by your side.”

Slowly, Sauer wrapped her arms around you, the skin of her left side twisted with burns long past. She shook with silent sobs for a moment, before pulling away and wiping her eyes.

“Thank you Jäger. I feel better already.”

Sauer forced a laugh, pulling the straps of her overalls tighter over her frame. With the back of her hand she wiped her brow, casting aside the cold sweat and replacing it with grease and oil. The spider web of twisted flesh over her face tightened unnaturally as she grinned.

“I’ve been through every theatre and hell this war has to offer, I won’t let a forgotten place be the end of me. Hell I even took a soul lamp explosion, though I guess that was after Verdun.”

Sauer turned to the soul lamp, whispering to it quickly in a hushed tone. Turning back to you she laughed.

“I can take you through any of these hells Jäger, rest easy. I’ll move to the other engine and get us going. Come visit me won’t you. It gets lonely when all I have to listen to are these things whispering.”

Sauer taps the glass of the lamp as if to illustrate her point. She pushed past you, glancing over her shoulder with a soft smile, whispering something to herself as she left the room.

You followed behind Sauer, until you reached the first of the squad. Clearly fed up with losing at gambling repeatedly Otto had left the table and moved to the bar car. The smell of strong alcohol wrinkled your nose as you got closer, a fresh glass on the bar in front of Otto. The bear of a man seemed not even to feel the effects, though he couldn’t have had more than a glass or two in the time you were gone.

“Jäger. Here to take me up on that offer of training?”

You shake your head, and Otto sighs.

“Actually, I wanted to get everyone together and move to the armory. Best take a look at our options and what we want to be carrying.”

Otto perked up at the mention, a broad grin creasing his weathered features.

“Now that’s much more my speed. Training can wait, I’m always ready to play with more guns and knives.”

Otto was already out of his chair and striding down the length of the car as you caught up, the train lurching underneath you. Sauer must have reached the other engine, the whistle belting out to clear the tracks of any soldiers. Slowly, the steady rumble of the wheels became background noise to you as the engine pulled the armored machine through the thick haze of gunsmoke.

You found the others in the cabin where you had left them, surprised to see Nixie and Gertrude across from one another. Gertrude was polishing the flammenwerfer on her lap, while Nixie asked various questions about weaponry. Gertrude seemed happy to field the questions about weapons, though was slowly growing annoyed with the Fae’s closeness.

Siegfried had cleaned the table, a stack of ammunition in front of him for varying calibers. Klaus was only half playing now, looking at his book rather than the cards in hand. Edward was still intent on winning back what he had lost though defeat was surely inevitable.

Otto spoke before you could, clapping his hands together.

“Up and about soldiers, our valiant squad leader has decided it’s time for the best part of the trip. Let’s go arm up.”

Gertrude whooped with joy, letting the flamer hang off her side on its strap. Nixie was most excited of them all, her eyes shining with the strange lust she had for weapons.

“I won’t be needing anything but Mathilda. Can’t hurt to look though.”

Siegfried flanked your left as he said this, leaving the game at the table. Edward took the chance to peek at Siegfried’s cards, crying out with anger and tossing his hand down.

The group of you moved through the living car, reaching the bolted steel door of the armory.

Probably bests to get her a melee weapon, or let her use the shovel herself. A weapon using a weapon against a ghost does sound a bit silly.
>>
“Aibell, before we do this, can you use a gun?”

You briefly see Aibell in your mind’s eye, clutching her blade between her breasts and shaking her head side to side.

With that settled you turn your attention to Nixie, still looking quite appetizing in her uniform. Her eyes are wide as she stares at the walls in wonder. She seems indecisives, picking up various weapons before placing them back on the wall to move quickly to the next.

“Can you shrink those weapons Nixie? Use something in a small form?”

Nixie shook her head, not even using words as she stared from wall to wall.

The BAR is not an SMG, rather much more akin to a battle rifle or LMG. Now the Annihilator/Thompson would have fit but that wasn't introduced until after the war.

I realized my mistake, and the Browning is an American made weapon is it not?
>>
>>3329989
>>3329990
Well I thought you were impressing that portable automatic firearms were not viable in the qst/setting, so I brought up an example of portable automatic weapons that were available in the tail end of ww1 historically.

Yes it is American made, but since people have captured enemy weapons all the time, and we even had a British revolver taken fro ma french trench barracks, I figure a BAR isn't going to be so far fetched,

The impression I got when it said "Your ability to change your size made it easier" was she was in big form dragging the gun.

Then "though you went back to normal before you entered" was her changing back either before or after dropping in our rifle to us.
>>
>>3330154
Well damn you got me. In my head she wasn't full size but I should have written that better. Had she been full she'd have had trouble in the tunnel hence the dragging. At full size she has and can use weapons normally. My shitty writing on that part anon.

Much as Nixie has held her own with a rifle or melee you think her best at the back line. It’ll keep you from worrying in the fray of combat. Though a standard marksman rifle would make sense, your squad really doesn’t have much in the way of anti-armor capabilities.

Your prayers are answered when you look upon the weapon leaned against a crate of ammo. Massive in size, a monstrosity of wood and metal. The Krupp Grusel Gewehr 14.5mm, or KGG 14.5. The weapon was unwieldy, cumbersome, and sure to leave a bruise. However, the piece colloquially known as Hexe by the troopers was unmatched in firepower and killing capabilities. Though Nixie would have to learn how to hand load any specialized ammunition she wanted, the beast would be a massive boon to your unit should it come across any of the more unsavory things in the dark corners of the world.

Nixie has followed your gaze, eyes hungry as she looks over the weapon.

“So...big. I want it.”

The Fae sounds to be near the point of salivating as she pushes through the unit to grasp the rifle. With not even a struggle the fairy hefts the weapon a few feet taller than her, shouldering the monster.

“Go for it Nixie. The soldiers call it Hexe, though I think the original name was Hündin. Make sure you have it shouldered right or you’re liable to crack your collarbone.”

Nixie nods, though she surely is tuning you out by the grin on her face. The bolt is heavy, incredibly pleasing to the ears as she works it.

“This weapon is old Jäger. I can smell it in the wood. It’s seen death, and shall see it again.”

Almost reverently the Fae runs a hand over the wooden stock, pockmarked with chips and gouges. The patina over the metal lends a manner of truth to her words, the KGG surely must have been one of the first. Stepping closer to Nixie you trace a finger over the metal searching for a serial number along the receiver. The metal almost vibrates under your touch, a strange warmth following your finger until you feel the almost worn serial. You squint at it, staring at the worn numbers. K000666, the K denoting it was actually made by Krupp and not one of the subsidiaries. One of the first thousand, though surely the strangeness surrounding the touch of the weapon had been lent by a number such as that. The weapon might have even seen the second assault of Verdun as old as it is.

The weapon pulls from your grasp, Nixie sitting cross legged as she cradles it in hands and runs a cloth over the wood.

“Make sure to find a sidearm Nixie, and that goes for everyone else here as well. Ghuls get close, and so do much more sinister things. Don’t want to be caught out with nothing but your hands.”

Though the Fae nods, you’re sure you’ll need to remind her when she comes out of her trance.

Satisfied with her armament you:

You leave Nixie to her cleaning, looking over the walls of the armory car. The weapons seem to be kept in categories, though not by nation. Siegfried of course is by the shotguns, staring at some belt fed monster of design that might even pull him away from Mathilda. Klaus is sitting in a chair, cleaning what is surely his own weapon. Edward just browses, the tails of his stained greatcoat moving slowly over the floor. Gertrude and Otto are both arguing over various bladed weapons that hang along the wall.

You:

[1] Look for a semi-automatic/select-fire like your AKG-98

The 9.8mm Imperial the AKG and EG use is specifically made to deal with human threats and function against monsters as well. Though it won't say, kill a Wulfstruppen, we can at least slow most of the more dangerous monsters down. Ammunition for it is common, it's simply that we keep running out of ammo because of the sheer volume of enemies we face.

Alright so let me re ask this to make sure everyone weighs in. If we carry two primary weapons it will slow us down noticeably, since we carry the weapon and the ammo. Do we want to just go for one or two, and if just one do you want something like an AKG 98 or something like the EG 37

>>
You glance to the section of select-fire rifles, spotting another AKG-98 on the wall. Other weapons hang above and below it, and you carefully look over the papers attached to each one.

[1] Angriff-Krupp Gewehr 9.8mm. A select fire rifle chambered in 9.8mm Imperial. Fed from 20 round box magazines in the side, you are very familiar with the usage of this weapon. A bayonet lug on the front would allow you to affix one of the serrated bayonets favored by the Imperial Army.

[2] Lancaster ACIR. Seemingly of British design, the Lancaster Adaptive Combat Infantry Rifle is a strange beast. Made of stamped steel and pressed wood it looks much less sturdy than the hand tooled AKG-98 but as a service rifle should be more than fine. Chambered for 11.4mm Sterling, the weapon is less controllable than the AKG due to the lighter weight and heavier round but will pack much more of a punch. The weapon is fed from a gravity box magazine. Though Emmerich had a large supply of the ammo, you worry that finding some in the field would be difficult.

[3] Browning-Colt 10mm. The BC-10 is the standard weapon for American service troops fighting in the European theatre. Chambered for 10mm Browning it is ballistically similar to your 9.8mm Imperial in service with the Germans. The weapon was a modernization of the BAR introduce some 200 years past, sporting a fluted barrel to reduce weight along with a higher fire rate.

If not then put in a request, to Emmerich for developing a shotgun that can fire these little 37mm explosive rounds.

As tempted as I would be for another gun like the colt, I think we should carry more ammo, for our pistol and rifle instead, and maybe find some room for another melee like a boot dagger or some grenades. A bag of grenades.

9.8 of course. Any of the specialty ammo will be quite hard to source but each offers their own benefits.
>>
Reaching out you grab the AKG-98, letting the weapon fall into your grip as you wrap the sling over your shoulder. You’ve fought many a monster with this, and feel more comfortable than with anything else. Along with that, the ammunition will be easy to find in german territory. You check the function of your weapon, pulling back the bolt and looking into the chamber. The bore was spotless, Emmerich clearly having kept the weapon in good shape. Countless magazines full of ammunition were kept in a case on the floor, and you mentally noted to come back when you had something to keep your ammunition in.

Glancing over the room you see a selection of bladed instruments that looked far older than the empire. Surely this was a selection of equipment blessed with magic but much to your dismay none of them were firearms. Your only chance would be magazines loaded with blessed silver. On that note, you’d need to ask Aibell for information on ammunition for the Revolver.

“Aibell would any of these be worth taking? Even from here I can feel whatever magicks they soak in.”

Aibell materializes to your side, and some of the squad raise an eyebrow but continue their preparations. The Banshee steps forward lightly, casting a glance over the various bladed instruments. Some are surely just bayonets, bathed in the blood of the otherworldly, though others are far older, perhaps even pre-dating the war. Aibell drags a finger over a tri-bladed knife, odd in its shape. It seems to be some sort of trench-made weapon, three bayonets forged into one that twist in a helix. Wounds left by that would surely be vicious. The Banshee turns back to you, shaking her head.

“Most of these are just blood soaked weapons, host to revenants of dubious intent. That odd bayonet however, seems to actually hold the soul of something or someone. I wouldn’t advise using it, things like that are best left untouched. Besides I doubt anything here could rival the power of a Banshee residing in your shovel.”

You nod, slightly crestfallen at the lack of weapons able to harm Aibell and her ilk. Another line of thoughts pricks at your mind, and you ask it before going any further.

“What of the revolver Aibell, where can I get ammo for such a thing?”

Aibell frowns slightly, holding her dress in her hands nervously.

“Short of running into the agents of Hellsing nothing, unless you kill someone and let me at their corpse. If that’s the case I can harvest the soul bound within to make you ammo. If you can stomach damning someone to the endless abyss of black I can do it for you Jäger.”

It doesn’t sit well with you, but it may be a necessity. You move further into the armory, Aibell vanishing from sight once more. Before you, easily a hundred sidearms adorn this section. Carrying one of these would surely help for a back up.
>>
[1] P44 Luger. A common sight in Imperial German hands, this sidearm is a happy middle ground for both human targets and monsters. Chambered for 9mm Luger the weapon is simple to use and trustworthy. In the event of more unsavory creatures, the barrel and chamber can be quick swapped to use the .44 Freak ammunition developed to stop things that would shrug off a 9mm.

[2] Loer and Harding Single Shot 50. The L&H SS50 is a break action handgun, chambered for the .50 caliber L&H incendiary round. Britain’s answer to the Wulfstruppen divisions is simple, and elegant. Wooden gripped with a blackened iron frame, lack of ammunition isn’t much of a care when it is a single shot weapon. With practice, the reload would be quick and offer great potential for damage.

[3] Zukovsky шecть дpoбoвикoв (Shest’ Drobovikov). A russian made double barrel shotgun, chambered for the six gauge shotgun round used by Imperial Germany. Though not native of manufacture, Russia was perpetually engaged at Tannenburg allowing for free access to captured ammo. Unwieldy and liable to break a wrist, the weapon was made for taking down the Yeti’s that roamed the Siberian wastes.

3-2 between the P44 and the L&H. Gonna give it five.
>>
Vote seems to be in favor of the P44 with only the .44 barrel. Closed, updating.
>>
>>3334308
Anything that needs more than 1 shot with a pistol should be dealt with by our rifle, if we are using a pistol, we are already at close range, and its gotten past a whole squad or a full magazine of fire, so a big up close kill shot would be needed at point blank range.
>>
>>3334326
Im with you .
Big one shot kill gat
>>
You grab the P44, snapping out the pin holding the upper section and replacing it with the .44 barrel. Your 9.8 and shovel should be more than enough for human targets, the .44 will give you some extra leeway with monsters. Setting the 9mm barrel aside you look back over your squad, who seemed to have picked their weapons.

Siegfried had held onto Mathilda, though he still threw glances at whatever belt fed shotgun was on the wall. Edward had opted for a simple EG 37, likely the weapon he knew the most. Gertrude had managed to attach her Flammenwerfer to some sort of SMG you hadn’t seen before, and you noted that she seemed to be a competent gunsmith.

Otto was adorned with various bladed weapons, holding what seemed to be an AKG-98 like yours though a much more custom variant that was likely his personal weapon. Klaus had opted for a bolt action classic, an old Gewehr 98 in his hands with a scope fitted to it. Nixie of course, had the Hexe cradled lovingly in her arms, an ammunition bandolier already slung over her chest filled completely with the massive rounds of ammo. You noticed now that they were in rotary clips, the Hexe apparently not being just a single shot but rather fed through a replaceable five round internally held clip.

“You gave the shortstack the biggest gun in here? Good sense of humor there Jäger.”

Otto laughed, seemingly genuinely amused rather than angry.

With weapons picked, the locked cage holding equipment would be the next choice. Much like in training it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to overburden yourself and as such you should limit yourself to only three.

[1] A reinforced khaki load bearing rig to keep your weapons. This one seemed to be modular, able to accept more pouches should you find them. Also in much better shape than yours.

[2] A gas mask, a Sturmtruppen essential. Good for gas attacks, and intimidating enemies.

[3] A camo mottled great coat, dappled gray, brown, and black. Aibell mentions something about improving it though whatever designs she have are unknown to you.

[4] A boot knife, doubling as a bayonet for your weapon.

[5] A grenade bag, full to the brim with soul filled Stielhandgranate.

[6] A medical bag, though you don’t know much about medicine carrying it could always help.

[7] A reinforced helmet, covered in plating welded helter skelter to it. Much more likely to stop a headshot

[8] Plate armor vest, though liable to slow you down a round won’t punch clean through should you be in the line of fire. TAKING THIS WILL LIMIT YOUR WEIGHT TO ONE OTHER ITEM

wait QM, Can't we swap out our Khaki load bearing rig for this new one AND get three other's? Because you even said it doesn't have more pouches then our current on?

IF so, Also swap out our Khaki for this new one.

ALSO OH GOD OH FUCK WE HAVE NO MEDIC.
>>
>>3334467
Our rig is pretty much shot, stained and tattered. It wasn't really meant for the paces we put it through. I can see giving you the khaki rig as a free one though.
>>
>>3334473
Thanks boss.

Also fuck I want that plate armor vest but we're not large enough yet
>>
>>3334477
Bayonet is gone as with the boot knife. Most everything but shovel chan was lost in the bio facility. This is more so our base gear, we can find other things during our mission. Think of this as your starting loadout.

>>3334473
Please otherwise
Helmet

You can change your vote for [1] to something else. I'll give you guys the chest rig for free.

Wait, We just fought our Lycan with our knife in the other room?
>>
>>3334492
We could still give her the medic bag, or give it to Abby
>>3334505
Nope, shovel
>>
>>3334505
Oh fuck, sorry man I'm getting tired. Boot knife is still there, not the bayonet one we had.
>>
>>3334508
>>3334510
The door behind you leading to the other parts of the train is kicked open, the smell of singed leather and oil assaulting your nostrils. Edward looks over you, his jaw hung open and dripping slaver as his nostrils wrinkle from the stench. Taking your chance you pull your boot knife, diving forward and bowling over the Wulfstruppen.

The bayonet against his throat is far less imposing than your shovel, but will carve flesh from bone all the same. He looks up at you, a mixture of surprise and hatred in his yellow eyes. Heavy footfalls approach from behind you, and for a moment you mistake them for Siegfried. More a length of pipe than the barrel of a weapon comes into view at the edge of your vision, the heavy weapon resting on your shoulder as drops of steaming hot oil land on the lycan under you.

“Move and I burn this fucking place to a crisp. You’ve got some fucking nerve to tear up General Emmerich’s personal car in such a manner. The both of you.”
>>
>>3334513
Yeah, like I said we still have it now that I backread. Think of the one we have as more of a survival knife than a bayonet, much lighter and smaller.
>>
>>3334517
>I will heal you BY TAKING YOUR SOUL AND CONVERTING IT INTO AMMO!

The one we have isn't. The one you could take is though it will be much larger and heavier. Standard bayonet is a 14 inch serrated blade. The only one we had kept with us as far as I recall was the Rosalie bayonet we pulled off the french. Am I making sense?

Gas Mask: 3
Great Coat: 5

Sure.....

Did we get the LBE?
>>
>>3334631
Yeah we got it for free.
>>
You grab the khaki chest rig first, slipping a handful of magazines inside the pouches. It fits nicely, much better than your old one. Snug in your equipment, you affix the grenade bag on the left side of it. The snap on pouch fits perfectly, and you roll the cover of the grenade bag over the fragile souls. The great coat comes next, a heavy wool that hangs over you. The camo and size will help to break up your form, and surely the exaggerated movements will be a benefit in combat.

The gas mask is next, and you hang it off the front of your equipment below your collarbone for ease of access. There was much to be said for the intimidation of the Sturmtruppen’s most iconic piece of equipment, and the protection from gas was a great boon. All too common soldiers had their lungs liquified and left to choke on the fluid.

Nixie had picked up the helmet and medical bag, strapping the metal over her head. She surely wouldn’t know how to use the medical bag but it would useful to at least have in combat. Aibell had laid a hand on your shoulder, dragging her fingers over the great coat as she looked it over.

“I can make some modifications to this, entwine it with Banshee hair to strengthen it and give you a more intimidating aura. Anything to help you Jäger. I only hope you pay me back.”

There was that tone in her voice again, sultry and needy with want.

The train was still moving, and looking out the window you can see that you have come far from the battlefield you were on. Sauer kept a fast pace, driving the engine as best it could without overburdening the souls used to power it.

You stepped to the door, leaving the squad to look over their equipment. All but Nixie were trained professionals, and surely they would help her with whatever was needed. The wind whipped at your face as you exited the car and stood on the platform in between. The acrid haze of the earth stung your nose and throat, but you squinted your eyes as you looked to either side of the train.

The left was a shattered landscape, shell holes and ruined trenches flying past. How long would it be before Germany could reclaim the over lands, and how many hundreds years more before the earth recovered. To your right, the same view greeted you, and you nearly turned back inside the car until the radio set affixed to the outside of the carriage rumbled with static.

“Jäger I need you to check our five o clock, see if you can find anything. There’s a track running parallel to us that is going to close to within a few feet soon. There’s smoke behind us that shouldn’t be.”

You lean out, gripping tightly at the worn metal railing to steady yourself. You could see the smoke Sauer spoke of, a dull gray shape belching it into the air. It was gaining quickly as well. Only something powered by coal and fire could outpace the souls. It was possible to push the train harder, but an explosion would become likely then.

You keyed the handset, leaning close so Sauer could hear you over the sound of the wind.

“I see it Sauer, looks like some kind of train. Is this a logistic track?”

“Negative Jäger. Glad you see it too, the earth up here is liable to play tricks on you. That’s one of the war engines from the front by the English Channel. There’s no reason for them to be here, and much less reason for them to be refusing my hails. Warn the crew, get them ready. Better to be prepared then caught unawares.”

You clicked the handset, returning back into the cabin with a quick stride.

I don’t like the idea of dividing our squad up like that. Group up by the engine then when the other train gets close we go car by car clearing whatever fucks are stupid enough to attack us out. Being divided just gives the enemy a chance to swarm over us 1 or 2 at a time
>>
Vote is closed for spreading them out through the train. Closing and updating.
>>
Actually we should put most of the guys into the rear engine, and have 1 or 2 people with Sauer.
>>
“Siegfried, I need you up by the engine with Sauer. No one passes into that room but us. We’ve got a train tailing us, one that shouldn’t be here. Keep her safe.”

Siegfried nodded, dropping the shotgun from the sling on his back which would surely come in handy during such a close engagement. His skill in melee was nothing to scoff at either.

“The rest of you spread through the train, Nixie and I will take the rear. Try to keep them from the Armory as best you can, and if we need to defend it do it without blowing it up. Otto, you’d be good for that.”

Otto nodded, no quick remarks are jokes here. It was business time. Whatever was tailing you in the train hadn’t responded to Sauer and that told more than a response could. The rest of the squad gathered their gear from the tables, nodding to you and moving to where they thought would be best. Nixie hefted the Hexe, keeping the weapon over her shoulder as she jogged beside you.

You were between cars when the radio crackled to life, you had expected Sauer to be speaking but were surprised when accented German came over instead.

“This is Her Majesty’s Captain Rosaline. We of the EXCAL Unit are blessed by god’s graces and trained in his will. Stop the train and surrender, and we promise those among you untainted by this hell will be well treated prisoners. If you are so intent on continuing your journey prepare to be boarded and cut down without mercy. By the grace of god, Amen.”

EXCAL, by the sound of it a special British unit. Their captain seemed quite confident in their ability to kill those of you onboard, particularly anything like Nixie or Aibell.

Ah, cool. I was pretty sure we’d eventually see him later on so I’m excited to see what you have in store for us.

Suffice to say he’s going to be something of an antithesis to us? Whereas we started alone as just a lowly grunt and evolved into something more along the way, gaining a select group loyal followers and friends, he’s been disillusioned with the notions of loyalty and camaraderie, turning into an extremely ruthless leader who will sacrifice anyone or anything for the slightest sliver of victory?

Or more likely as a broken man, having lost everything in the process to fit in the with the grim darkness of the twenty second century.

No it isn't pot lol. I'm trying to open an airsoft field in an abandoned prison. Don't worry if we make as much as I expect I won't let you lose your house. Payment for being here since the start.
>>
>>3355910
Oh shit that's bitching chief, does that include both inside and outside of the prison?

AHHHHH, STOP THIS. LET ME FEEL HATED BY THE WORLD
>>
>>3355949
Yeah, a full 73 acres of woodland and the prison yard.

Nah man, as owner I'll get to decide when we run and what hours we do. Though summer months will be busy I can't leave this story unfinished. I consider Greatest War the best thing I've ever written and what truly gave me my drive back was you guys. Besides I can't run that Bayou Gothic quest until I finish here.

I simply cannot succumb to the QM curse, I enjoy all this too much. Besides I need to write about vid related.
>>
>>3356034
well you've me atleast a desire to fucking still hang around here and shit of that nature boss, and probally one of the better stories i've seen in years that is fanmade.

Fuck me, That was hot for a short bit until it wasn't like a drow
>>
>>3356048
What are you talking about her true reveal is even hotter. Nightmare waifus are the true patrician taste.

Don't make me blush I'm not that good, I just enjoy what I do.
>>
>>3356055
Nightmare waifus are worse girls because they eat your face after you mate.

[spoiler[ That's a requirement to be good I think.
