You are Ushi Walker, the half-japanese/half-american wielder of the mighty quirk “Everything is Bigger in Texas", U.A High first year student and, if only by your own judgement, pretty good at coming up with stuff on the fly.

Considering you came up with your new hero alias, Loanstar, within the allotted time and got it approved at the first try.

Unlike the boy currently standing at the front of the classroom.

>"...Well, you should return to your seat already. We've already taken longer than we should have." Midnight starts, sounding a bit deflated. Then she looks at Mr. Aizawa, sitting in the corner within his yellow sleeping bag. "...Not that there's any pressure."

>"You said names reflect natures! These fit me!" Bakugo protests, dragging his fingers through his last attempt, "Lord Explosion Murder".

As Midnight sighs, you butt in.

"Ah get that ya can strut sitting down, pal. But can'tcha come up with sumthin' less… Villain-like?" You tell Bakugo, trying to be amiable and lend a helping hand. "How 'bout <Primer>? First to blow and all that jazz! Or… <Blastwave>! If ya want it to be longer… Or <Shine>! Would make ya sound a tad less dangerous... Still flashy though!"

Midnight says nothing at that, opting instead to look at him and wait, as you do.
Maybe he liked one, after all.

>"...That's the idea, Briskets." He replies with a tone that makes you think he might genuinely don't see the issue before moving on to his more common boastfulness. "They'll know who's about to blast them into pieces!"

Normally, you would have felt some measure of disappointment or sadness at being ignored, but you didn't actually expect things to go well with him. SNAFU would have been another name to suggest.

>"Alright… That's some semblance of brand awareness, at least." Midnight comments as Bakugo returns to his seat, then clears her throat. Loudly "...Aizawa?"

>"Since you are in the mood to help, why don't you pass out the lists and form on the desk?" Your homeroom teacher asks from you, pulling down his sleeping bag down to his waist. "There are named ones for those who got drafted by the pros and unnamed ones for all of you."

"In a New York minute!" You reply hopping off your chair and picking both stacks of papers.

It's kind of disheartening how both piles are just as big, considering one is just for a handful of people, while the other is for everyone, including those of you with offers.

It doesn't take you long to distribute them, leaving most looking at one or two sheets, while Bakugo, Shoto and you end up looking at about 70 pages each.

>"Your internships start in a week. For those of you with personalized lists, you may choose from either list." Mr. Aizawa explains, holding up one of the nameless sheets. "For those of you who were not drafted, this list contains forty agencies from all over the country willing to accept interns. You will pick one from that list. Each has their own specialties and region, so think about your choice before you pick someone."

"Ah reckon it'll take some work." You comment, flipping through the pages. "Gotta look up… Well, a lot of stuff!"

>"I'll go for major crimes in Tokyo!" Kirishima proclaims.

>"I'd like a place where I can help with floods." Tsuyu comments, scanning her list.

>"I'll need you to submit your choices by the end of the week." The teacher finishes. "With that done, let's move on to class."

And with that, you no longer feel sad for those with only one sheet to look at.

The rest of the morning passes faster than usual, as you try to peek at your offers while paying attention to how the Kurosawa doctrine came to be at the end of the dark age of quirks.

By the time lunch arrives, the inside of your head feels like a mess and you hadn't managed to actually read anything from your lists.

At least you know your friends must be having the same problem, at least in part.

Why else would almost everyone from classes 1-A and 1-B you can see be carrying sheets of paper around in the mess hall?

Pony and Itsuka each seem to be looking at handfuls of sheets, while Monoma just has his form and what looks to be the same list of intern accepting heroes.

Momo and Kyoka are both looking at their sheets on a table of their own, with the first handing a pencil to the first.

Shoto, for his part, is again on his semi-private corner table, eating. Oddly enough, just eating.

After a second to look around, you decide to bring your tray and papers to Shoto's table, as you want to know how his visit went, not intending to avoid anyone. That was merely coincidental.

"Howdy!" You say as slam your tray against the table, with just enough care to not spill your shiromiso tonjiru all over your papers.

>"Hello." He replies, putting down his spork. "Did you rest well?"

"Uh… Yeah, really relaxing stuff-" You start, taking a second to stuff your face and chew. "But how 'bout you, sugar? You know… You never called."

Even though it's hard to put into words, you do know what you want to ask… Still, you hope he knows what you mean without having to say it.

>"...It was a good talk." He says, picking up his spork again and stirring his soup, staring at the bowl. "I do not know if I can properly express it, but it was... Mitigating."

"...Go on sugah, Ah'm listenin'" You encourage him, eating slowly to make the least noise possible.

>"The burden has not gone away… But it shifted. It's bearable now." He says, and you could swear you can see a smile start to form as he continues to speak his mind. "She wasn't mad, you know? I didn't enter with any expectations, but… I was still surprised…"

"...What did you talk 'bout?" You ask, trying to act a bit like your Ma and lend an ear.

>"Half of it was forgiveness..." He starts, bringing a hand to his scar. "For so long I was certain that she hated my very existence and dismissed every thought about her… But just after she saw me, she broke down crying, asking me for forgiveness…"

"And?" You prod him to continue.

>"Destiny. Happiness…" He continues, looking at you with the first warm smile you can remember him muster. Ever. "I forgave her, and asked what could I do for her to forgive me… She just asked me to be happy- ...You look happy yourself."

Being called out, you yourself notice the smile pulling up the corners of your mouth, but you aren't surprised.

"Well… She sounds nice." You say, focusing on what he has said today and leaving out the scalding-of-a-child part out of your opinion. "Very motherly, Ah think."

You leave out his smile, fearing that mentioning it might banish it to whence it came from.
...Which it does anyway, sadly.

>"I am sorry, Ushi." He then says, almost giving you whiplash. "I should have taken your words to heart instead of simmering in them. In the end, she said what amounts to the same thing… That I am not bound by his blood."

>What do you do?

Of course she did, you think, sighing.

"'s just the truth sugar. You are you yourself and no one else's anythin'..." You tell him, biting the tip of your tongue amidst the repetitions of you. "Ow, my tongue."

>"Regardless of that, I still apologize." Shoto says, barely raising an eyebrow as you stick out your sore tongue. "I should have been less hesitant to heed you words-"

"Hey!" You interrupt him, pulling your tongue back into your mouth. "...Sorry. Ah mean, as long as you get it, Ah don't really care how you got there. Ah'm just glad you are finally accepting your quirk."

>"Yeah… I may not have forgiven him, I do not think I will ever do, but if I am to make use of my flames, to master them… I will need my father's guidance. Thus, the choice was rather easy." He replies, looking at his left hand and then at your papers. "Have you given thought to whom are you going to intern with?"

"Uh… Kinda?" You answer, shuffling your papers around and giving them a quick look. "Ah think Ah'll look into goin' with Mt. Lady, but Uh… Maybe- Wait, Mirko takes interns? Doesn't she work alone?"

Either the lists weren't organized in any way you could understand, or you shuffled it all until it no longer made sense, but you can't help but notice how big names like Mirko's, Best Jeanist's and Endeavor's are buried between people you haven't ever heard of, like Big Brass or someone who thought Cancer was a good name to go by.

>"Not quite." He answers, looking like he knows what he's talking about. "She does not work with other heroes, but doesn't have any problem bailing others out or having sidekicks work for her… As far as I know, they don't last long. I would assume it is hard to make a name for yourself while in her shadow."

"Sounds lovely." You sarcastically comment after taking a second to clean your plate.

>"In the end, it is the experience and the resume filler that makes working under another hero worth it." He points out. "Or so I have heard from my father's sidekicks."

After lunch came math, which despite not being hard you would easily call the second more exhausting class after Foundational Hero Studies by sheer mental tiredness that Ectoplasm's class causes. Luckily, or most likely by design, Cementoss's Modern Literature class was a slower one, letting your brain cool down before the seventh period.

Then came the first one, with All Might bursting into the classroom with what sounds like an interesting idea.

"PUT ON YOUR COSTUMES, YOUNG ONES!" The Symbol of peace said right after dashing to the front of the classroom. "WE ARE RETURNING TO BASICS! LET'S SEE HOW BETTER YOU'VE BECOME AT FINDING PEOPLE IN NEED OF A HERO!"

As soon as All Might finishes speaking, every semblance of order banished from the classroom, as you and sixteen of your classmates rush to pick up your costume cases off the now opening wall. As expected, Momo and Shoto just calmly walk up to it.

>"...Is this actually a training exercise?" Mineta asks, hesitantly picking up his costume case. "Or is anyone going to pretend to attack us this time too?"

"Do not worry, young Mineta! It'll only be us and Cementoss, to help with the exercise!" The Hero answers, immediately turning his head to the side and clearing his throat. "As-far-as-I-know"

With that assurance, you make the now usual beeline to the changing rooms, wasting no time once you are there to flip open your case and throw on your new skintight costume.

"What do ya think?" You ask, striking a pose. "Do Ah look like a hero now?"

>"Hey! When did you get new gear!?" Mina asks, clad in her own trippy suit. "I like it though! It really looks a lot more like a hero costume."

>"So, that's what you were doing this morning, then." Momo concludes, fixing her belts. "But yes. There's nothing more archetypically looking than a bodysuit and a cape… Although I have to admit that you could stand to be more covered."

"Shoot! Ah knew Ah was forgettin' sumthin'...."You reply digging into the case again and pulling out a short leather jacket that had no hopes of ever closing and putting that on over your bodysuit. "Ta-da!"

>"...That's not what I meant." Momo says, holding both of her palms together in front of her mouth and taking a deep breath.

>"I don't think you can criticize Loanstar for her star, Creati." Kyoka points out as she approaches you, decked in her now even more plain-by-comparison costume. "...Heh. It'll take a while to get used to that."

>"Yeah, you can't call out Star for her star." Mi- Pinky points out. "It'd be like calling me out for being pink!"

...It's by nothing but politeness that you keep yourself from questioning out loud her grasp on causation.

>"I don't think that makes any sense." Froppy adds, joining in the conversation. "But I do think it's good to run with your theme. Ribbit."

>"Eh." Pinky replies shrugging before turning back towards you. "Welcome to the bodysuit and jacket club, though!"

"Thank sugar!" You tell her, then you see Invisible Girl's gloves grab you by the shoulders and softly push you.

Curious, you let her move you, seeing how she proceeds to do the same with the other girls, all letting her do it with either looks of confusion, curiosity or mild annoyance.

In the end, she lines Earphone Jack, Uravity, Froppy, Pinky, You, Creati, and then herself.

>"There!" Invisible Girl announces, placing her gloved hands on her hips (you assume). "Wait! The horn covers!"

"...What are you doing exactly?" You ask her, as she starts trying to shuffle you with Pinky.
>>
>"Just a scale of how much skin each costume covers!" She answers excitedly. "It's hard between you and Pinky! She has a mask, so she hides more, but you have the horn thingies and…"

>"...How about we just go to class?" Earphone Jack asks, clearly done with the invisible girl's antics and leaving the line for the door as she spoke. Uravity wasted no time to follow.

Shrugging, all of you go after her, although you can still hear Toru muttering to herself as she follows.
...Which is somehow familiar.

You feel pretty happy with your new costume, the half cape swishing behind you as you went to meet back with the boys. Part of you was sure these were the opinions you were looking for, but you try to pay no mind to that thought.

>"Hey… I'm seeing stars." Chargebolt comments to Grape Juice with a snicker, seemingly being the first to notice your new costume. "...Seriously though, why all the stars?"

>"It goes with the <star> part of Loanstar." Mineta explains, without further reaction.

It leads to a rather awkward silence as almost everyone stares at him, waiting for some sort of sexually charged comment.

>"A very Bronze-Age-like design..." Deku mutters as he looks at your new costume, still wearing a mix of his gym clothes and what's left of his green costume. "...but how come she got a full new costume before I could get this repaired..."

After a few more seconds of staring with Deku's muttering on the background, Mineta speaks up.

>"...What?" He asks. "I'm not gonna complain about skintight suits, but most of the girls are already wearing those."

"Maybe we are just so used to thinkin' the worst of him that we just went up and assumed he'd be pervin'?" You comment, a bit surprised, but pleasantly so.

>"Perhaps..." Tentacole replies, sounding less like he doubted you and more like he knew something you didn't.

He then produces eyes on both his top and lower arms, aligning the lower ones with Mineta's eye level, after which he nods and picks Grape Juice up, lifting him up to your eye level-

>"...I owe you one, Shoji. Forget that… I owe you so much more…" The short guy says, not looking at your eyes at all. "Now how about you bring me closer for a better look?..."

"...Nevermind." You let out as Tentacole just flat out drops Grape Juice.

>"It was just a viewing angle issue, then." Froppy summarises. "Everything is normal. Ribbit."

Everyone else sighs in relief, as order was restored to the world. You just sigh in slight disappointment.

>"I was worrying there for a second." Chargebolt admits.

At least that doesn't last long, with All Might coming to pick all of you up.

"Follow me, heroes in the making!" The N.1 Hero says, waving for you to follow him as he takes a path that as far as you know, takes you away from the parking lot.
>>
>"Are we going back to the USJ?" Shoto asks, echoing your thoughts.

"Not this time, Young Todoroki!" The hero answers, pointing at the horizon. "Just one of the nearby mock cities, the domed one to be precise!"

You only have a vague idea of how does the school manage to keep several, multiple blocks sized mock cities, but you have to admit that you are excited to get in and see what each one is for.

Mock city J, in this case, has a similar dome to that of USJ, with a small smoking chimney on the top.

>"Looks like the entrance exam..." Red Riot yells in front of the gates of the city. "Are we smashing robots again!?"

>"Great. I want to set a new high score." Bakugo comments, cracking his neck and grinning.

"Not at all, young ones! You'll be helping them!" All Might says with a laugh, souring his mood.

>"The simulation is ready, All Might." Cementoss says, opening the gates from the inside, showing… Basically nothing.

It's incredibly dark, with only flickering lights providing some information about what's in there.

"Thanks, friend!" All Might says before turning to address you. "What you see here, young ones…"

Then he peeks over his shoulder.

"Err… Behind me stands a simulation of what can happen during a full night time blackout. Although uncommon, sometimes the reason for a blackout can also cut communications! And you can bet every bit of scum will try to take full advantage of the chaos to take what they want!" He explains as a few lights start turning on behind him, as flashlights and fires suddenly come alive. "Your job for today is to form teams of five and go in to help as the first heroes on the scene! Each team will go alone, and each member will receive points individually!"

"Hold on!" You yell, raising your hand. "Didn't you say it was a team activity?"

"Indeed, Young Walker! Each member will receive five points for each crisis they solve, two points for helping someone else solve one, and one point for each one another hero solves without you!" He answers, pointing at you. "The victim robots on each sites will observe who seems to do the most work and thank them and their helpers if there are any, while the villain robots register who defeats them."

>"So, we have to balance handling a team, helping the victims and keeping the spotlight on ourselves…" Shoto summarizes.

>"Not only that, we need to find the crises first, evaluate them and see how thin we can spread ourselves…" Deku adds. "Finding the victims won't help if we are ill equipped to deal with the issue..."

"Now! Make your teams and get ready, we'll start with volunteers!" All Might says, causing your classmates to disperse and look around, discussing tactics.

>"Hey, Briskets!" Bakugo calls for your attention, grinning. "Wanna race? Or are you planning to leave some scrubs in the dust!?"

"Ugh." You let out. It's worth considering, but it's not fun to think about.
>>
>"...I do wonder why he picks on you that way." Creati asks, approaching you. "Regardless, do you want to team up again? I'm fairly sure we'll be prepared for anything."

>"Hey, even if you don't pick Yaoyorozu, can we work together again?" Grape Juice asks, pulling at your suit's leg.

Kinda want to pick Kyoka because of her earjack can work as a radar to find people/robots. And althougj he is a pervert Mineta is pretty good for subdoing villans.

Although...chargebolt would be ideal for a scenario with blackout. He can charge some of the eletricity or keep our gear charged

It just doesn’t make sense to me to make a side bet that disincentivises teamwork in a team activity.

So, we’re going to grow Kaminari and have him power the grid while we fight, right?

Trainning to be a hero? Also probably workibg in a way to navigate during the camp trip since the villans ambush everyone during the night.

Mineta and Momo. I think both of them would be useful in this situation, they are both real smart compared to use too.

Looking at the three people wanting to work with you, it's not hard to figure out what to do.

"Sorry Daisy, no can do! But we can see whose team does best!" You tell Bakugo, trying to get a bit closer to wish him luck before noticing that one of your legs is far heavier than it should be.

>"Why you!?..." He simmers for a few seconds before replying. "Screw this shitty escort trial, I'll go fetch the less incompetent NPCs."

"Ah reckon he'll get himself a stroke. at this rate." You comment as he stomps off, before looking down to your leg.

Apparently, not telling him to let go off you right after he grabbed your leg only encouraged Mineta, who took the chance to cling to your thigh.

"Uhm… Grape Juice?… Let go of me, please?" You ask Grape Juice, doing your best to get him off you without touching his head, then turning towards Creati once he does. "Thanks. Now… If you wanna still wanna work with me and Grape Juice, that'd make three!"

>"Come on Yaoyorozu! You wouldn't leave the team hanging?" The purple clad boy says, prompting Creati to take shiver and take a step back.

>"...You know what? Sure. I'll just..." Creati answers while walking around you, using you to keep Grape Juice away. "Stay a few meters away. He may be incredibly ...annoying, but he's certainly useful."

"Ah know, ah worked with him before!" You tell her, looking around for the rest of your team. "We'd still be needin' another two bodies to get goin' though..."

>"Since we need bodies, how about Pinky and Froppy's!?" Grape Juice eagerly suggests. "That'd make it my dream team!"

"...Perhaps." You say, scratching your chin. "Why them though? Ah was thinkin' 'bout Chargebolt and Earphone Jack. Both of them would help find crises, and a black-out exercise sounds pretty much made for Chargebolt!..."

Creati just glares at your other teammate, then sighs.

>"Indeed." Creati says, nodding and turning her back towards Grape juice. He doesn't seem to mind, though. "That's a tried and tested team composition, with added support thanks to him."

It's hard to ignore the scorn she seems to have for Mineta, but you can't really blame her. But knowing that at the very least she'll put up with him for the exercise, you look around for the aforementioned students.

It's not hard to find them though, as you quickly spot Chargebolt talking with Shoto, who seems to have managed to get both Tsukuyomi and Froppy in his team already.

Earphone Jack, for her part, is hanging on the sidelines, as if trying to start a team of her own.

"How 'bout you go fetch Earphone Jack and Ah go get Chargebolt?" You suggest, pointing at the blond boy with your thumb.

>"Good idea, you two go do that." Creati answers, briskly walking away towards her friend.

>"I wonder what it'd take to get her to take that dictionary off…" Grape Juice wonders, staring at Creati's lower back.
>>
"Tryin' somethin' new and or a battle for dear life." You answer, hoping to get him to start thinking straight. "Now let's go get the gang together."

And with that you slowly walk towards your mark, in a self-conscious attempt to keep Grape Juice by your side and not behind you.

>"...Dark Shadow's might peaks while under the cover of darkness." You hear Tsukuyomi explain to Chargebolt as you approach him. "But that power comes at a terrible cost, as it comes awake and I can't control it."

>"As things stand, I will need to help keep Dark Shadow in check during the enterity of the exercise." Shoto continues. "But if you were to join us, we would have far greater flexibility, being able to split up in the most efficient way possible for any situation."

>"It would do us no good if we all need to be together for something that one of us could have done on their own." Froppy finalizes. "So, do you want to go with us? Ribbit."

>"Let me think about it for a second…" Chargebolt replies, raising his hand to his face and scratching his chin.

A perfect window to butt-in, if you ever saw one. Thus, you go tap his shoulder.

"Hey sugar!" You tell him, pointing over your shoulder at Creati's general direction with one hand and towards Grape Juice with the other. "Wanna go into the dark alleys with us?"

>"...Can I have another zap-gun?" He asks, looking at where you are pointing.

"Of course Sugah! Ah reckon that if it were left to me, we'd all be packin' heat." You tell him, grabbing your half-cape with your hand and throwing it over your shoulder as you speak.

>"I'm in." He nigh-instantly answers, turning to face the confused look on Tsukuyomi and Froppy's faces, and the raised eyebrow on Shoto's. "Sorry guys, gotta go with Star here."

>"Ribbit?" Is all Froppy says as Chargebolt walks backwards towards you, throwing an arm around you once he bumps into you.

>"I mean, can't go wrong with the <Swiss Army Knife> duo." He says, awkwardly poking the star in your pauldron while looking into the other star. "Beats being a flashlight, ya know? Good luck though!"

"Sorry guys!" You apologize to the team you just lifted Chargebolt off.

>"...This will make things more complicated." Shoto comments. "Let's go shore up our weaknesses."

>"I'm not gonna lie, it was a bit of a low blow, Star." Froppy says, then shrugs. "But it's not against the rules or anything. Ribbit."

>"Ironic." Tsukuyomi waxes poetically. "Naught but the flames shall ward us from the pitch-black embrace of the dark, with room for nary a mistake, else we burn eternal."

Leaving them to their own devices, you take a step away from Chargebolt and lead them back towards Creati and Earphone Jack.

>"<Swiss Army Knife>?" Grape Juice asks.

>"A tool for every situation..." The blond answers, smiling smugly and pointing upwards. "And they make one think of the mountains."

For some reason, the high-five you hear is more annoying than the remark itself, almost forcing you to sigh.
However, Creati seems to have good news, as she chats with Earphone Jack.

>"Hey, Loanstar!" Earphone Jack calls out for you as you approach, extending a fist towards you. "I get the flashlight, but why are we dragging the stick-tack with us?"

>"Can't Creati make a bluetooth speaker and save a spot?" Grape Juice snarks back

Although it is with some hesitation, you bump Earphone Jack's fist before anything else. You ain't gonna leave no one hanging.

"Hey!..." You say, raising your palms in what you think, and hope, is a calming manner. "Ya'll are fifteen years old, no need to act like toddlers. Grape's very good at restrainin' and stickin' stuff together, Jack can hear anythin' goin' on in miles, and Ah reckon both of those things are gonna come in handy. Any questions?"

The nods from Creati, Chargebolt and Grape Juice were all you were expecting, so the raised hand from Earphone Jack surprises you.

"...Uh. Yes?" You ask, confused.

>"Can you not call me Jack? Kinda sounds like a dude." She answers, prompting you to sigh, annoyed.

"Sure, whatever..." You answer, pinching the bridge of your nose. "Ah ain't calling you Earphone though."

Maybe she should have gone with a shorter name then!

Luckily for you, you didn't have any more time to dwell on nomenclature, as All Might's voice calls for all of you.

"If all four teams are ready, we can start with the trial!" All Might announces, then turns towards your team, extending a hand in your direction. "Class reps, would you like to be the first ones? Don't worry about any unfair advantages, young ones! The crises move between rounds!"

Having been singled out, you nervously look at the other three teams.

Bakugo seemingly managed to convince Sugarman, Pinky and Kirishima to go along with him… and Anima, for some reason. Does he know something you don't?

Shoto managed to round out his team with Tentacole and Can't Stop Twinkling.

Meanwhile, team Deku was made of the usual suspects, plus Cellophane. And Invisible Girl, you are pretty sure she's somewhere near them.

Things we need to do:
Get an electrolaser for Denki from Momo.
Ask Momo if she thinks growing Denki will let him resist short-circuiting.
Get everyone connected by radio.
Establish strategy.

I’d like to see Ushi grow biggest and sweep up the bad robots on the street. Or put them in a bag or jar or whatever, like she’s cleaning up her action figures. I’d like to see this replaced with specialized villain capture pods later on, as part of our standard equipment.

Mineta and Jiro (G.J. and E.J.) can find and lock down anything happening inside buildings.

Denki can either grow big and power the grid back on or use the electrolaser (on wheels if it’s too big to carry, the streets should make that easy) to lock down enemy robots.

Momo can run strategy and solve unforeseen issues as they arise alongside Tin. Tin’s infrared vision will be very useful in the dark. Does Momo know how to make infrared goggles?

It’ll be important to highlight that because the robots are stand ins for humans, killing the villains or mistreating the civilians will count against us.
