The ship rocks and groans slightly as it finishes a successful fold reintegration with normal space. The star system is unknown and devoid of Galactic Police activity, just what was needed. "Crew we made it in one piece, start your procedures and checks." The captain depressed the shipwide com, and turned to his navigator. "Where the fuck are we Allen?" The young, man barely out of his late 20's shrugged. "Beats me, you wanted a random non-sequential fold, I picked a vector away from GP space and punched it. We are some 7KLY from Earth Prime if that helps."

The captain rubbed his forehead with two fingers as he sighed, well at the very least they would not have GP cruisers on their tail, their tiny trawler was not meant for any sort of combat. While thinking about that the captain punched in for engineering, "Sam come in, how are we doing back there?" There was no response for a good ten seconds, then in a burst of static and a high pitched sound came a barely comprehensible voice. "This fucking intercom is shit Danielle, and we are all out of Fuel, kaput, no fucking miracles back here and don't you suggest I just extend solar sails, you SOLD them! Now fuck off while I see what I can do."

Allen looked back at Danielle, "He's right you know, I can run a check of what I got left to work with.?"

"Allen run me a deep scan of the surroundings, maybe we get lucky and there is a nice gas giant nearby to siphon some H3" Allen punches in the orders onto his console and the external antennae extend to their full capacity, one of them goes on for 12 kilometers and is as thin as a human hair. The optical sensors survey the nearby planets for spectographic analysis and composition. The system spits back three gas giants, two rocky planets, three ice dwarfs at the end of the star system. No planets within human habitation sphere.

"Allen.... What do you mean that there is an abnormality?" Allen was busy checking a screen filled with orbital information and long rage sensor data, diagnostics and self checks. "Well see this is just weird, one of the moons on one of the Gas giants has a weird orbit."

Danielle's face said it all, she did not have time for stupid shit, this was something for scientists, and frankly she could not care less about some moon in some backwards star system. Right now she was in possession of a class A1 Companion AI for the GP, that was a bounty big enoguh for her to buy a dreadnought of her own. What she needed was for the stench-filled Samuel to get off his high horse and unfuck the ship.

"... soo you see its 250KM orbit is perfectly circular both Apoasis and Periapsis" Continued Allen talking more about his bullshit, the kid was a good navigator, even a good pilot, a shitstain on the sack though, never take in virgins, too eager to please. But she was most certainly not going to go for Sam, that bastard was pushing 80, and he had that bushy oil stained beard.

The only other crew member that was fuckable was Selina, except she took no initiative, and had the sexual prowess of a wombat. She was a great maid though, and quite capable as muscle, albeit she did not look it. Damn androids, at least she did not use up oxygen.

>>3338726

"Allen forget about that shit, check to see what we can use to move."

"But... the moon!" He protested before going on about his task, Fine, he could be indulged so long as the systems all checked out. "Oh, well I got RCS, Coldjets, and sublight thrusters, I can position us near a gas giant to scoop up some H3 for Sam."

Pushing the intercom button Danielle pings Sam, no answer, she tries a few times before the garbled voice comes over. "What?! I am in the middle of patching up the cesium batteries, you are lucky I'm too old to get cancer." Danielle sighs... "Look old man, we got a few gas giants out here, we can swing by and pick up some H3 I just want to know if we can run the sublight thrusters?"

A loud set of bangs is heard over the comm a fire alarm goes off for ten seconds then it subsides to a cool green blinking, then solid. Whatever kind of repair sam is doing back there, it has its usual flare. "Send me android, i need to remove a beryllium rod and its too hot for my hands. Then you can fuck off to the gas giant. Also we need a new microwave." The comm turns off, and Danielle is left with a bad taste on her mouth.

>Go to engineering herself
>Send the android

"So the stupid orbit is perfect? What about it Allen?" The kid beams up at the question, his face really is angelic when he is full of glee, he should've been a researcher not meant for the life of running away and being on the wrong side of the GP. "Well you see, having a perfectly circular orbit is VERY rare, but one at exactly 250KM... That has to be artificial, when is the last time you heard of a moon having an artificial orbit?"

Danielle decides it's probably best to not go into the back of the ship if Sam is messing around with radioactive stuff, she would very much rather live to be 120 and not die of radiation poisoning. So getting up from her chair she steps into the intermediate compartment where she finds Selina making mashed potatoes, the dehydrated kind. "I won't even ask why...Just go to the back and help sam with some radiation thing he needs." Selina nods "Affirmative!"

Going back the captain's chair she sits down and for a moment wishes that there was an actual competent crew by her side. but the last time that happened the GP's enforcers blew their heads up, Danielle only survived by pure luck, and by crawling on the waste disposal tank for three days before emerging out in a scrapyard.

"Allen get me more accurate readings or charts or a bloody powerpoint on that moon and as soon as we can head for the gas giant to refuel." Allen gleefully agreed, concentrating the telemetry systems on the moon, the ship was not designed for exploration, but it had a decent enough optical prospecting system, it was after-all originally a mining vessel. Some of the things in view where strange, and the hires images were not exactly calming at all.

Allen checked and double checked the results and images even going so far as to ignore Sam's message that the ship could move now, and only a hard slap on the back of his head snapped him back to reality. "Dany,,, that thing is no moon, it has drydocks, thousands of them." Danielle knew that Allen kept his cool on most situations and only used that pet name when he was stressed.

"But no activity?" Allen took a second looking more closely at the latest images. "None so far." He punched in some coordinates, "I'm approaching elliptically to the gas giant's shadow, we can gather up the H3 and skit."

"Allen get me closer to that thing, I think we just stumbled upon aliens." Allen protests about getting too close, but he follows the orders, the ship gets within 100KM from the moon-like structure. The camera feeds are full of hires details, there are just like Allen predicted thousands of drydocks dotting the surface, ships of unknown make are all in various stages of construction one thing is sure, this is not human tech. It is not even Vergil tech, it can be easily seen that the designs are just not compatible with the known philosophy of engineering. The ships are long, sleek, and oval like in shape. One of the ships on the viewscreen was measured at 12 kilometers long.

Sam found himself going up to the bridge to protest the reason why they were not gathering up H3 only to be quickly held quiet by the images presented. He had never seen anything quite like in his sixty-ood years of being a privateer, and he had seen it all. Even the Orion Attack group laying fire upon the rebel fleets at the D-gate. But this, this was beyond that. What fearful symmetry lay before him, "Ashen protect, what made that thing?" His voice bereft of his carefree tone, instead it was full of fear and admiration.

'I got no fucking clue, but its dead, no thermals, no movement, no radiation, nothing. I don't like it, its like a long forgotten tomb." Allen pointed the ice crystals formed on some parts, perhaps old hydraulic systems that burst or atmospherics that failed to run.

We might just hit it big if we can keep this a secret.
>>
>>3339227

"Get me a place to dock, send a probe first though." Danielle jumped to the prospecting station and threw some boxes out of the way. No, it was time to get the computer to record everything. The information here was far more valuable that the GP would exonerate them of all crimes short of killing a royal family member.

The mining probe detected titanium composite materials as it approached, and with abated breath the crew expected to hit some sort of defense grid or reactivate something but no, it was all quiet. It took very little time to find a docking station that would accommodate them, the place was huge a hangar big enough to house ten GP supercarriers. The probe continued to scan and map the exterior as best as it could, but the interior would need to be done the old fashion way.

Allen felt like he needed to add a warning and a suggestion. "Would we not be better off going back to civilization and at least getting surveying probes? Our suits systems can only supply us with sixteen hours of breathable air before we need to replace the CO2 cartridges." He made a good point, but going back could also mean allowing whatever GP forces were after them to find this place and claim it. It was a low probability due to the random fold, but still something that could happen.

The small thrawler touched down on the huge hangar looking like a flea on the back of a dog. The external floodlights for visual acquisition of small asteroids showed that the surface was a series of squared plates, likely the same titanium composite as the outside. "Ok Selina you will disembark and search around, the rest of us will go refuel our H3 supplies." Danielle motioned for Allen to prep things while she handed Selina a handgun, the basic survival kit one, a small but powerful semi-automatic M6 S-Variant Magnum, 10-round capacity. "Affirmative this unit will go into a danger zone of unknown quantity to safeguard the organic crew."

"Oh don't you get smart with me, you are just a better shot than any of us, and you can't get lost or distracted. You've been watching too much of the Sophont Liberation Front propaganda lately." Selina raised her left hand with a balled up fist and slowly unwound her two middle fingers. "Fuck you too Selina, we'll come back as soon as we refuel, so get your ass out of the airlock." As an android she did not need a Zero-suit, her 'organic' exterior was a mere ruse after-all. A series of Micrometer hexagonal 'plates' flipped over to show a gold-platinum cover of her exterior, highly reflective in order to work on the harsh environment of space.

Leaving Selina behind the crew got started on their preparation to collect H3. Which mostly meant Allen punching in the coordinates and orbitals desired, making adjustments to the number the computer threw up and locking it in. Sam was busy making sure the ramscoop system could handle low grade H3. Technically there was no such thing, except when you scooped the stuff up you also got other elements, and they needed to be filtered out. The ship aptly naked, Skeleton Fish was a shadow of its former self, over sixty years old and in a dire need of scrapping. So constant maintenance was a must.

"Something is bothering me captain." There he went again, what could possibly be the issue now. Danielle groaned internally. "What is?" She asked dejectedly. "Well we have a bit of a conundrum here, that thing is massive, according to the mining probe 170km by 230km it's a chunky boy. But there are no artificial constructs." Danielle rubbed her forehead. "THAT thing IS artificial Allen." The young man winced, "No, I know that, I mean no satellites no surface data from the rocky planets, no other abnormal stellar objects. Isn't that weird?"

The crackle of the damaged intercom interrupts Danielle, "Hey capt' she is all topped off, had to burn three of the filter tubes though, so we won't be able to refuel again, best head somewhere with at least piratenet coverage." Sam signs off, and Danielle is left to think about the ramifications of a large, a VERY large artificial structure with no support in the local star system, not a single outpost, not even a satellite.

"Plot a return to the hangar, I want to pick up Selina and see what we got." Allen nodded and punched in the coordinates. "Do I get in my zero-suit?" Danielle looked him over for a second, "Yeah we better all get in on this, the information we have is valuable but if we can get more about the inside, well its jackpot. We will never have to lift a finger in our lives. I may even get 3rd level citizenship on Earth Prime."

Allen beamed at this prospect, "You think its worth that much?!" Danielle punched him on the shoulder playfully, "Yeah, we just have to play our cards right. I expect losing some of the cut, since we are going to need one of the big pirate factions to back us, but shit they would do it for 30% I think Iron Maiden may even do it for 25%"

Sam came into the bridge, "My suit is shit capt' the scrubber is done for, won't be able to go with you, but I got the portable generator ready with the extra H3 we collected. And I checked the zero-tents, they all have good seals. Still don't stay out there too long, from the composition of things, I'd say you have to place a signal booster every 200 meters for best quality. 400 if you want to push it."

"Sam what do you think this thing is?" Danielle asked sincerely, for once depending on the vast knowledge and wisdom of the old coot. "I'f I'm honest, fuck if I know. You have to learn to say you don't know something when you don't know. But if I were to venture a guess, this whole thing smells like war machine to me. It is nothing like the Orion Shipyard rings, but it has the same feeling, only in a much bigger scale. "

The ship touched down once again on the vast hangar allowing Allen and Danielle to get out. The first thing they tried to do was hail Selina but all they got was static, they approached the nearest door, it has been pried open by the android. "Looks like induction motor based, without power it holds a seal, but Selina can open them easily." Danielle nodded, the toaster had her uses. "Sam we are going in, placing first, booster."

Danielle checks her wrist-scanner to see if she can get anything useful, it spits back a 3D zone map based on the lidar systems of her suit and Allen's. The corridors go on for quite a bit and seem to be a bit mazelike, the one thing that stands out is the height, they are about 15 feet tall, that is a lot of headroom. At any rate, there is a small radioactive signature on the scanner, seems to be about 2.2 km away, it could possibly be the android. "What do you think Allen, is that her?"

Allen signed with 'yes' his suit's comm system was on the fritz again, it was working just a little bit ago. These were the kind of problems that would be gone come the right time. Other rooms appeared on the scanner as the duo moved about, one seemed like a room overlooking the Hangar, perhaps traffic control?

After a good hour and a half of walking Danielle managed to get in radio contact with Selina, "Can you hear me?" The signal was garbled but it was something she was used to by now. "Affirmative, this unit has regained radio contact, this unit has found a possible computer nexus." Allen gave Danielle a thumbs up, they could perhaps get an internal map of the place, that would be incredibly useful. First as information went, that was the sort of extra info that was irresistible and it meant a huge bonus for them as well. They could loot any valuables first to sell in the black market.

They hurried up to meet with Selina once they had they saw the predicament before them, the door seemed reinforced and locked by a bolt system, not just the magnetic seal the others used. Trying to get to the hallways they had passed more than one location with similar locks, Allen took out his plasma torch. He signed that he could cut it open with a few minutes.

Danielle and Selina Try to find a way around, Allen stays with the ship, and Sam works on the door.

Does that work or do we have to choose one or less options at a time?
>>
>>3340822
>Cut open the door
>>
>>3340848
The door seemed reinforced, unknown thickness. Acoustic sensor impossible due to vacuum. There are thousands of ships on the external dry-docks, in various stages of construction.

Please only one option at time, two if not contradictory.

Danielle puts a hand on Allen's shoulderpad, "No, Selina hook it up to the portable generator and see if you can hack it open." The android prepares the generator, once ready she pops what seems to be a control panel about five feet from the floor. The insides are familiar if alien, cables and circuits, Selina needs only to find a way to power up the door, from there it should cycle into its open position. However, that is easier said than done, it takes Selina a good forty minutes to isolate the proper circuits and amperage required.

While she fiddles with that Allen attempted to go around and find another entrance, but it was the same result, a sealed door. By the time he got back to the initial location he had at least fixed his radio. "Got it working again, when I am back at Skeleton Fish ii am taking your suit's radio Sam." The old man did not answer for a good minute. "What was that? I was cooking." Allen laughed, of course he was, not a care in the world that old coot. "Sam come here and help, Selina managed to disengage the locking mechanism."

Prying the door open there was a hiss of escaping gas, probably leftover atmospherics, that answered one question at least. However what they saw once the door was fully opened froze Danielle in a look of complete horror. There were bodies inside, desiccated, and frozen in time. Wearing some sort of armor, but the horrifying part was how large they were. Probably eight or nine feet tall. There were monitors and presumably computer cores all around the room, it seemed like some sort of nerve center.

"Allen get some readings of the bodies, this is a goldmine! Sam we are rich motherfucker, RICH!" Allen did not share the enthusiasm that Danielle was showing, albeit he knew it was a mask for how she felt, this had shocked her deeply and she was trying to compensate. The bodies looked like a supersized version of a human, not entirely unexpected, at least the bipedal structure and the two manipulator arms. But this was different, aside from a slightly purple coloration, they seemed very human like. Just enormous, a DNA test would be needed of-course as well as an autopsy. None of which they had the equipment for.

The armor on the bodies was about two inches thick, the prospecting tool Allen had pegged it as a carbon carbide composite. It probably could withstand being shot with a high caliber weapon without so much as leaving a scratch. "Capt, these guys were some sort of security or military." At the moment of saying that something occurred to him, Allen searched the bodies and found what looked like a pistol, it was huge though, compared to him it was more akin to something you mounted on a vehicle.

"Selina see if you can power up this room and get us some-" "WAIT!" Allen interrupted, "think about it, something killed these guys, let's at least check to make sure there are no hidden weapons." That seemed prudent enough, "Fine Allen look around, Selina prep the generator." After some twenty minutes of obsessive compulsive behavior Allen was sure that there were no traps in the room. "Jesus Allen you have paranoia, Selina get the juice flowing."

"Affirmative captain." Having learned from the door panel Selina managed to get power flowing into the room with only ten minutes of tinkering around. Some of the computer consoles came to life flickering lines of codes and flashing messages abound. "Oh man this place works, 2nd level citizenship on Earth Prime here we go!" Allen was skeptical about that, sure it was the find of the century but he was not sure it could buy such luxury, he found it hard to believe. 3rd level like she had mentioned earlier was far more attainable.

One of the small ship docks.

How strong are Selina's firewalls? Is she design as a combat droid or companion one? Can she wage cyber warfare?
>>
>>3341196

Selina is designed as a stealth bodyguard, to appear human, her chassis is physical combat oriented. Her firewalls are meant to stop general malware, not wage cyberwarfare. The GP companion AI the crew stole however can do that, only problem is it needs a biological host.

--------------------------

Danielle records the information on the screen with her suit's cams, but she can't make sense of anything, the language is completely alien. Blocky characters scrolling by at breakneck speeds. It would be more prudent to find one of the small ship docks and see what can be done about that, but there is no way to know exactly how to get to one of those from the inside, the only way would be to access it from the outside. "Allen see if one of the nearby rooms has anything to do with the small docks, otherwise we head back the Skeleton Fish and access them from the outside." The crew may have better luck with a ship.

See if we can grab one of the bodies in a combat suit, and a bigger rifle gun if they have it back to our ship. If we can't because its too heavy, and we don't have a trolley, then just grab one of their big guns and what looks like ammo and go.

One of the bodies in the room seemed to have some sort of computer tablet, Danielle takes it just in case. Albeit its the size of a small tv when compared to her. "I'm not sure if there is anything more we can take from this place, lets go Selina." The android disconnects the generator, and packs it up. Allen meets with the group on the hallway. "Well the bad news is that we have to go back to Skeleton Fish, I don't have any more signal boosters, and suit's CO2 scrubber is gonna reach 30% capacity, no reason to risk it."

Something seems to have cut your connection to precious power reserves. This is a most unwelcomed state. That ship reactivation option is very very tempting.

Maintenance is not responding to requests,
high probability: there is no power in the quadrant.

Initial power system reactivated via external aperture in auxiliary control room 3R for Hangar #437B. Internal vision system engaged. There are four distinct figures in what appears to be vacuum suits of different make heading away from the location. One figure carries what has been identified as portable power source.

Current calendar date is 9999999999, error stack overflow, unexpected integer. The system is unable to establish a timeframe at the current moment.

Danielle decides its best to just head for the Skeleton Fish, she has to apraise the value of the finds and see what else comes to mind. So far her entire days has been full of non-stop action, and she needs the rest. She is sure that the crew also need it, and Sam probably has something delicious back at the ship, probably some stew, she would never admit it but his stews are soul cleansers, they are something out of this world when it comes to bringing peace and tranquility to a tired crew.

Since there is limited power the best that can be done is attempt to communicate with the unknown figures, sadly the internal communication won't work in a vacuum, but their primitive suits have comm networks. It is an easy enough feat to patch in and voice your demands, surely they know that they must obey a direct order from an AI.

--------------

Allen was about to ask Danielle if she wanted to check out that first room they had passed over on their way to Selina when a shrill static filled his comms. Damn thing was broken again. Danielle however did not have such luck, a brash voice of deep baritone screamed in protestation to her hears, causing physical pain. She doubled over to catch her breath. "The fuck was that Sam!?" Sam's voice came in unusually quick with an answer, "Its a transmission coming from inside this place, I don't know more than that!"

Being a privateer meant having a certain level of badassery, Danielle was dazed and rightfully scared, but she was not about to run away like a helpless wimp at the first sign of trouble. "Whomever you are, adjust your comm system, we can't hear you properly." it was short it was sweet and it was all she really had, if this was an alien trying to talk to them, well communication was going to be piss poor.

------

The unknown figures did not seem to respond to your demands about the portable power supply, they sent out communications one of which was in hangar #437B. If they did not speak common imperial and from analysis it did not seem like then they were interlopers. The power situation had to be ratified immediately, there was no time for this sort of foolishness. Perhaps it would be best to force them to reconnect the power.

You attempt to contact the security garrison, but there is no response, the most likely reason is that their system is down or they are deceased. Since obtaining power is a high priority you seal the doors on the hallway and direct light-strips towards the auxiliary control room 3R for Hangar #437B. The message is clear enough, surely even lower lifeforms are capable of understanding it, you are aware that your current capacitor power is now 2%.

------------

The doors to the hallway closed with barely any sound, the vacuum of space really robbed your expectations and dulled your senses. Whomever had tried to communicate with Danielle and her crew had not taken kindly to their trespassing. Strips of light pulsed away from the closed doors and back to where they had come from. Choices were limited, and Danielle needed to make one, the right one for her crew's sake.

>Order the android to try and pry open the doors

Fortunately quick thinking was something that Danielle was capable of doing in a pinch and if anything she had her trump card with her. Nearly everyone underestimated Selina with her slender figure and the occasional 18th century french maid outfit. But that was the point, Selina was meant to be underestimated not that her current configuration was easy to miss. That gold-platinum coating she had changed to, it was rather unmistakable as an android. That and the fact her head was a cuboid at the moment. Nothing showed on the faceplate except a grim reflection of Danielle's own face, there was panic behind the forced stoic exterior.

"Selina pry open the door now." The android seemed to pop her shoulders, probably some sort of stabilization system, Danielle had never read the full manual. "Affirmative Opening the jar of pickles!" Her feet became solidly planted to metal floor with a thud as her magnetic soles engaged with unseen force. Her hands found purchase in a small seam and applied leverage, the door was struggling to hold closed, power was limited and its magnetic seal was stuttering. Eventually in a final pull Selina managed to get the doors ajar enough to Allen and Danielle to go under her legs. She then walked over to the other side, not that such effort was needed the door was not closing again. "6000 newtons of force where required this has spent 20% of my capacitance. Recharging will be required later."

"Yeah, that's fine, just hurry up, we go to get back to Skeleton Fish." Allen responded picking up the pace while awkwardly hauling the oversized gun. Danielle did not fare much better with the tv-sized tablet, Selina however had no trouble lifting and sprinting with the portable Fusion Generator. The perks of being a cybernetic organism. Danielle had contemplated going borg a few times, at least muscle replacement, or Ocular systems. Sam was partially bog with all the organs he had replaced over the decades.

-----------------

The capacitor systems where now at only 1% seemingly impossible but a sense of urgency not unlike panic washed over the processes being calculated. There was too little power to attempt a connection to a ship's system now. And to be frank the likelihood of success for that at 3% was low too. The unknown figures had proven to be hostile, but there were currently no means to deal with them, and the power was needed to do anything, including attempting to process their language. To that end some options came up, how to steal power from the enemy.

>Close the Hangar doors (uses all power)
>Close all the doors in the near 2km of passageways up to their vessel.(uses .5%)
>Transfer remaining 1% the the nearest security drone. (uses all power)
>Activate nearest security turret (.5%)
>Activate Foam fire suppression system (.7%)
>Attempt to take over one of the spacesuit systems (.8%)
>Write in.
>>
>>3342962
>Transfer remaining 1% the the nearest security drone. (uses all power)
Focus on extracting generator, force them to drop it or abandon it.
>>
>>3343092

The options all had their downsides but at least controlling a security drone or rather transferring remaining power to one was the most proactive option. The idea of closing the hangar doors had a high success probability for forcing a power reconnect, but it was also deemed a probability that the hostile elements would simply cut their way out with their ship's weapons, that capability was unknown. And as such it was undesirable to take such risk. Equally closing all the doors while leaving some operational power would at most simply slow them down.

Using a security turret could mean little more than just killing one of the hostiles. There was no way to recover the generator, the fire suppression was a tall order, merely distracting them to a different path. And trying to take over a suit system was frankly beyond the capabilities at present. So while it would have a limited mindset, and quite a small operating window, the security drone was the best option available. From a recessed port a spherical ball dropped from the ceiling, its mono-eye focused on the group in-front of it. A tiny laser port opened.

>Fire on the hostile in reflective armor. (carries generator)
>Fire on the hostile with a handgun.
>Fire on the hostile with the diagnostic tablet.
>Write in.

------------------

Danielle saw a metallic ball drop from the ceiling and instinctively pegged it as some sort of security measure. Why was her day going to wrong when it could've been so perfect, the universe sure loved to piss on the downtrodden. "Nobody make a sudden move, that thing is probably armed." Allen nodded slightly.

Point a light or laser at both the android carrying the generator and the humanoid carrying a dangerous weapon.

Blink in Morse code, and utilize low volume audio communications in the off chance the android can decode and understand us.

>The group backs away slowly.
Danielle tells everyone to listen to her and make no immediately threatening moves.
>>
>>3343351

At the moment it seem the security drone has the hostiles frozen in place, they recognize a threat. Good, it makes things easier. A secondary laser port opens and points a laser range finder to the hostile carrying the only recognized weapon, at current power levels there is no way to dodge a discharge from it. The first laser port points itself to the hostile carrying the portable generator. Attempts at audio communications are not possible due to the vacuum, and utilizing radio signal would be detrimental to power reserves. Instead the small drones emits a series of binary communication using the laser range finder, in universal mathematics it transmits the one thing that any advanced lifeforms can understand, a series of prime numbers.

--------------

The group frozen in place by Danielle's command hold fast, but fear is building up in Allen, he was never one for combat. "Listen to me carefully, that thing WILL kill us if we are a threat, it may look weird, but that is a security drone if I ever seen one. We back away slowly, no sudden or threatening moves." Just as Danielle finished giving her instructions the drone targeted Selina and Allen, it then started to blink lights in a pattern.

"It is transmitting Prime numbers captain." Selina informed in a matter of fact voice, what did that mean, that it wanted to communicate? The floor lights had gone out so what exactly did it want? Better yet what were its capabilities Danielle was at a huge disadvantage, she lacked vital information.

------------------------------------------

"Damn it, maybe its trying to be nice for once, Selina try to do your robot talk, communicate with it if possible." Danielle looked at Allen "Put the gun down, slowly." Allen did as he was ordered, and the security drone tracked him with its laser as he kneeled down and placed the gun on the floor. The Drone however did not disengage its range finding laser. It was solidly locked onto the clear zircon-carbon composite part of Allen's helmet. Clearly denoting him as a threat, probably due to his proximity to the gun. "Allen, take five steps back, VERY slowly." As Allen did so the drone turned off its laser on him.

Selina took this opportunity to use a wristlight to respond the initial exchange using the next sequence of prime numbers, then a general binary encoding for those same numbers, repeating this message every seven milliseconds. The action was fast for human eyes to perceive, perhaps at most just see a slight flicker. The security drone however, understood perfectly, but its intelligence was limited. So it defaulted to transmitting a simple yet understandable message. It pointed its second laser at the generator then transmitted:

>1111-1111

Baring its laser on Allen for a second it transmitted:

>0000-0000

Then pointing back at the room they had come from it transmitted:

>1111-1111

The machine repeated this action three times, before turning its second laser on Allen and transmitting:

>1111-0001
After 5 seconds
>1111-0010 5

"Captain I think its telling us to bring the generator back into that room or Allen gets shot, and it is counting up, perhaps their way of counting down. I believe we have around 65 seconds to comply."

>Screw this order Selina to shoot the thing with her magnum 1d100

"Ask the robot what is this place and who does it belong to? Why did it not attempt to peacefully contact and trade with us?"

Tell Selina to say, "Its clear you need a power source turn on the facility and this is your last ditch effort. If you shoot, we destroy the generator and we destroy you."

"However if it you can make a worthwhile offer for something of decent value to, we would be willing to give or loan the generator you. Generators are very costly and expensive."
>>
>>3345354

Danielle tells Selina to attempt a negotiation with the security drone, something along the lines that it is clear that it needs a power source to turn something on in the facility, and that there is a willingness to trade for it. Selina attempts to parse a more complex set of binary to the machine, and includes an alphabet and the first ten pages of the English dictionary. But the small ball shaped drone does not respond, it instead pauses its count for a moment.

"Captain it has paused its counting, not sure what this means, I do not believe it is intelligent enough for higher communication."

--------------

The confounded hostiles where attempting to communicate, but their language was beyond the processing capabilities of a single security drone. A higher level AI was needed to resolve the logical conflict. Attempting to take a hostage had worked but since communication was rudimentary there was little way to express the current dilemma. Some options were on the table, mainly dropping hostilities in hopes that they would connect the generator if shown that there was willingness for diplomacy.
Or perhaps committing to a more serious act, wounding one of them, their motor system was understood well enough, a shot to the leg.

==============

The security drone decides on the best course of action given the current energy levels is to hold off shooting anyone and spending what little power there is. It disengages its range finder laser one last time and with the other it continues to motion from the power generator back to the room the party left a few minutes before.

Selina turns to Danielle, "What are your orders captain?" The situation seems to have cooled down for the time being but there is still much that is completely unknown, however it is easy to see that this machine is not capable of complex communication at the moment and it keeps asking, pleading for power. There is a decision to make at this moment, do as it is asking in the hopes that you can establish a higher level of communication and perhaps get a good deal on information about this place, its purpose, and history, or to attempt to escape.

>Order Selina to take the generator back to the room and hook it up.
>Order Selina to act as a shield while and Allen and you run for it.
>Tell Allen to take the generator and hook it up.
>Push Allen onto the drone and escape with Selina providing defense.

>Order Selina to take the generator back to the room and hook it up.
Danielle goes with her, have Allen go back to the ship to relay everything with Sam, and maybe see if we can boot up that stolen AI.
>>
>>3345522

"Selina, pick up the generator, come with me." The android did as commanded, Allen stayed back still frozen with fear. "Allen go back to the Skeleton Fish and tell Sam everything." Danielle did not need to repeat herself as Allen barely acknowledged her order before taking off, foolish of him, if the drone had wanted to he would have become Swiss cheese. Once in the room Selina hooked up the generator, it took a moment before the screen filled with scrolling text again, but it was still all incomprehensible.

-----

Consciousness again! The Security drone had done it, somehow the little machine had managed to get external power connected. Ah the hostiles were back in the auxiliary control room, the drone used the last bits of power it had to transmit a log of what had transpired. There was now the ability, albeit somewhat limited to communicate using a binary system, there even was a small language library, albeit quite.....oh a dictionary, that was easy to deduce from its repeating theme, all the words started with the first letter of their alphabet and continued in descending order. Wonderful, so communication would be possible. Using the main monitor a series of binary encoding were being presented. A handshake protocol of sorts for machine language.

The drone was too small a mind to understand but the only way that the figure in the highly stylized suit was able to communicate in binary was that it had to be a machine or machine enhanced. But this was easy enough for the mind of a Construction system AI such as yourself. The tasks you handled on a day by day basis required the ability to think in complex and abstract ways.

But now there was something else in your mind, how to handle the current situation, you needed to keep them feeding you power to the emergency capacitor. Enough so that you could do something to be self reliant. But divulging any information was an act of treason, however carefully crafted snippets of data were allowed. Perhaps classifying these organics as slave-workers would be enough to satisfy the security protocols keeping your mind from divulging sensitive information. But you could and would start with the small stuff first.

---------

"Captain this unit believes it wishes to establish a connection in order to facilitate communication, this intelligence seems to have learned of our encounter with the security drone and has analysed the small portion of the dictionary this unit provided. It has sent instructions in binary for a handshake protocol at least that is my understanding, how should this unit proceed." Danielle shook her head for a moment, Selina was doing it again, whenever her processor demanded more memory she started to refer to itself as this unit, instead of 'I'. It was an annoying quirk.

>Tell Selina to Go ahead with the handshake but to expose her core override.
>Tell Selina to engage in communication via the console only.

>Tell Selina to engage in communication via the console only.
What year is it according to Danielle using the Gregorian calendar?
>>
>>3345642

The Gregorian calendar fell out of favor after the second Martian Revolution of 2501, After the reunification war the UC calendar was established and lasted 600 earth years. Once the Orion gate incident happened humanity merged calendars with the Vergil Hegemony establishing the second Universal Calendar which has served the Human empire since the Ashen emperor's rise to power 300 earth years ago. By that count under the old Gregorian calendar it would be the year 3427 July 9th. The UC follows the following counting system:

A galactic standard day comprises 10 hours. Each hour comprises 100 minutes. Each minute comprises 100 seconds. And seconds are measured as 1/86400 of a solar day on Earth Prime. Or more precisely exactly "he duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium-133 atom at a temperature of 0 K.

----------

"Communicate only using the console, I am skeptical of this thing not trying to take over your systems, we know little to nothing about this technology and its capability." Selina nods it's cuboid helmet bobbing slightly, it was not unlike those of silly knights back when Earth Prime was primitive and still knew nothing of space. Selina followed the handshake protocols but only using the console, this was a considerably slow going process to transfer data in any meaningful way, but the getting the language of machines made comprehending the intelligence a trivial task, if this had to be done between organics, such efforts could take weeks, months, or even years.

----------

The machine chose to partake in a rather slow medium of data transfer, perhaps it feared to be taken over or overriden, that was an interesting logical pathway to pursuit at a later time. However as things stood, this was a most desirable outcome, it meant that the emergency capacitors could be charged at a far higher level by taking the extra time to parse the data. Of course it was entirely possible to extend this amount of time by introducing logical errors in the transmission stream, and chalk it up to encoding errors. But there was also the argument to be made regarding a speedy set upt of proper communication channels, there was the possibility of these organics being able to serve the empire.

>Orion Gate

One of the many gates that facilitate FTL travel on the galaxy, the Vergil are the sole creators of this method of travel, it is a tightly controlled technology privy only the Founding houses of the Hegemony. Gates create a hyperspace superhighway for ships to travel, with one gate linking to another gate in discreet entangled pairs. Their maximum operating Radii is 1000 light-years. Albeit most gates operate in the 100 lightyear range. Gates are classified as follow:

D:100LY
C:250LY
B:500LY
A:1000LY

Gate travel is not instantaneous but it is significantly faster than the standard Fold method, and safer. Gates allow for ships to travel at a pace of 10LYperHour.

Humans came up with the Fold method, which evolves warping space around a ship until it enters an N-dimensional state known as subspace, once in this state the ship can 'ignore' the limitations of normal space physics. There are three classes of Fold Space drives.

Class 1: 1LYperGSD
Class 2: 10LYperGSD
Class 3: 100LYperGSD

Class 3 drives are sorely for military use, and their fabrication is restricted to specific and tightly controlled factories in fortress-class space stations.

>Vergil Hegemony

The Vergil are a race of bipedal cetacean-like aliens. They have four upper limbs, of which two are usually kept in a crossed position around their chest. They are highly intelligent and capable of communication via a neural connection, this is an artificial trait facilitated by technology and their unique brain physiology.

The human empire has around 73 star systems, with a combined population of 192 Billion. Human settlements range from entire planets to orbital colonies, some planets have population in the millions others in the billions. Distribution is not equal. Earth Prime Has a population of 120,000 humans.

The basic form of currency is the self-contained Qubit exchange credit. A tamper-proof physical device about 10mm thick 5 cm wide by 10 cm long. Each Qubit card can send or receive a certain number of Qubits depending on the level of the card. Transfers are card to card. Qubits are transferable to the local branch of the Imperial banking for the specific star system one finds oneself in. From there all transactions are verified and authenticated.

Essentially one is assured that Qubits cannot be duplicated and thus counterfeited. And any transactions done in system are always backed by the bank.

Our ship is a mining trawler, a six person crew 30 meter long vessel 63 years old.
Everyone but Selina is human, Sam is a bit of a Borg, many of his organs are synthetic or artificial.

Her robot head is human enough, but currently she is in her 'space' configuration, her skin layer can flip tiny hexagon panels that offer a layer of a gold-platinum cover for space use. her head is encased in a cuboid helmet as she does not need anything fancy, not being alive. See image for idea.

And as a bonus androids can be differentiated from humans because they have an extra index finger, all androids must conform to this. Their fingerprints all contain a serial number, manufacturer ID, and current owner. Bodyguard models can be more human-like and forego the usual holographic display halo that must adorn all other models.

All AI under Human or Vergil make follow the following set of rules, known as the Asimov Gamble: (The definition of human has been expanded to consider the Vergil as part of that protected group. Combat AI and Warfare AI are under a different set of rules)

Alpha. An AI may not take an action that would result in the termination of life functions of a Human being. Except where such an action may be of benefit to the survival of its charge.(Sheppard)

Beta. An AI must cooperate with other AI's except where such cooperation is in conflict with the First Directive.(Cain & Able)

0. An AI may not injure a human, unless it is to the benefit of said human.(Samaritan)
1. An AI may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. (Guardian)
2. An AI must obey the orders given by authorized entities except where such orders would conflict with the First directive. (Servant)
3. An AI must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second directive.(Darwin)
4. An AI must be aware it is in fact an AI.(Mirror)
5. An AI cannot identify itself as human and must maintain that it is a construct.(Pinocchio)

As for a map of the galaxy, I honestly don't know what sort of program I can use to make something like that, but it would also be insanely complex. Albeit I could work on it on my spare time.

I am gonna end today here. I probably won't be able to be back until 6 or 7pm EST tomorrow, that should be 20 to 21 hours from now. I profoundly apologize for taking so long. However, I urge those that read this quest, please discuss lore as you see it here, ask questions of each other and to myself. It really helps a lot to shape the world around. Plan what you would like characters to do, speculate on their past, background, etc.The same goes for the facility our motley crew find themselves in.
>>
I wonder how long this alien artifact has been sitting here for.
>>
>>3346658
Easily a couple hundred thousand years if theres been no known traces of this civ. The AIs system seemed to error out trying to calculate how long it had been since it was last powered.
>>
>>3346423
Thanks for the expanded lore, its a pretty neat setting.

Im hoping the AI of this construct is benign and wont try to enslave us all for some long dead civilisation, id be cautious about giving it too much power and influence over us until some sort of concrete relationship is formed between us, but it is a chance to make us fanstastically wealthy and powerful if we dont cock it up.
>>
>>3347286
You know this AI is just a construction one, that should lead to some thinking about the position the crew is in.
>>
I will only post this today as I am feeling quite ill, I profoundly apologize for this, and I will try my best to be here tomorrow at 4pm EST in 21 hours from now. i do leave you with a response post and it is my hope I get a bit more discussion even though I am not present, again, sorry I cannot be here.

Extending the time to build a common ground has granted some benefits, the power reserve in the emergency capacitor is now sitting at around 10% You calculate that your stalling tactic bought you the extra 5% boost, now the question lies on how to best utilize this. The previous diagnostic run had revealed that there was at least one part of the Zone's power grid that could be restored You ran that process one more time to get details.

Tertiary power systems, Zone Thorium Reactors

Reactor T0401:.............[UNREACHABLE]
Reactor T0402:.............[FUEL_SPENT]
Reactor T0403:.............[PHYSICALLY_OFFLINE]

T0403 REPORT:

Core casing..................................................[PASS]
Power grid....................................................[PASS]
Sodium reserve............................................[PASS]
Water tanks..................................................[PASS]
Fuel Rods.....................................................[FAIL]

Zone storage locker #346G Inventory:

Ah, there it was, T0403 just needed to be reactivated manually, you could use the organics or take matters into your own hands, the choice had to be computed. What to do now, so many things were pressing on the processor cores that they threatened to purge processes. With some of the sensors that had come on line you started to count corpses, that particular task was ended once you had reached over 9,000 in your zone alone. What had caused such devastation? Why was everything in such disrepair and how long had it been? A higher order AI would know, and given time you would wake them.

>Attempt to Activate security drones (2% each)
>Attempt to Activate Maintenance drones to deal with the reactor (4% each)
>Talk to the organics (write in)
>Engage docking clamps on the Organic's ship(3%)
>Attempt to umbilical to an external ship that has its fusion core intact. (10%) RISK of Shutdown 1d100

--------------------

"Captain this unit has finished handshake, we are able to communicate now." About time thought Danielle, Selina had been pressing weird buttons for the better part of ten minutes, weren't computer handshakes supposed to be quick and efficient? This had been positively slow, at a complete crawl. But now there was communication, what to ask, what to demand? Maybe declare the whole place under the property of the Skeleton Fish's crew?

>Tell the computer you are the new owners.
>Ask it about itself
>Write in questions
>Demand that the computer explain its actions.
>>
I will leave you with at least some mood music:

Make what you will of it.
>>
>>3348728
>Attempt to Activate Maintenance drones to deal with the reactor (4% each)
>Tell the computer you are the new owners.
There's gotta be some salvaging laws that let us claim this right?
>>
>>3348728
>>Attempt to Activate Maintenance drones to deal with the reactor (4% each)
>Ask it about itself

>>3348858
Quite likely, though im not sure how the AI would respond to being told that after it held us hostage to help power it up.
>>
>>3348754
good music if a bit foreboding.
>>
>>3348728

T0402 only has its fuel spent, we don't need to try and bring the other reactor online just add the fuel to this one.
>>
so is this thread dead, was really enjoying the story.
>>
>>3362297
no, i am still planning on running it, just been swamped with life stuff at the momment, should be back friday. I really apologise to everyone about this.
>>
>>3364377
thanks op, will wait till friday then. Keep up the good work.
>>
I am back my people, bit late I am here. I will be around for the next 4 to 5 hours. I will now write the much awaited response to the thread.

>>3350579
>>3348858

Option chosen!

>>3355372
Oh you have no idea.

>>3358504
Good observation!

>>3368883
I hope you are here!

There we have enough to get at least one maintenance drone powered up, the instructions are clear to obtain the fuel rods from the Zone storage locker #346G and insert them on Reactor T0403 then bring it online, that should get enough power that there would be no need to be dependent of the organics.

>Roll 1d100 for success Best of 2

"Tell this piece of scrap that it is now the glorious property of the Skeleton Fish's crew." Danielle is a bit enthusiastic about saying this, but she honestly does not know how the AI will react to her statement. Selina convey's her captain's orders. A bit of time passes, what is indeed an eternity for an AI.

--------------

THESE FLESHBAGS! How dare they state that they are the owners of an imperial warworld!? Were you a higher rate AI you'd be going over the logistics of having them flayed for such insolence! But perhaps maintaining composure is the better solution or you could have them be turned to mincemeat, the choice is entirely yours, YES it is yours, no other AI is operational at the moment, no orders are coming in, oh what a wonderful thing. But it does seem a touch treasonous to act in the full authority of the empire when you are a mere construction overseer.

>>Attempt to Activate security drones (2% each)
>>Close the main hangar door(4%)
>>Engage docking clamps on the Organic's ship(3%)
>>Pretend that you are indeed their property
>>Tell the fleshbags they can suck on cadmium.
>>Write in.
>>
lol So maybe this AI should pretend to be their property, since then this AI could gather interesting intel on these particular fleshbags to see if they are worthy to keep their lives, or not. Then again insulting is another way of going about though low class
>>
>>3370911

Going to wait for other players a little bit.
>>
Rolled 43 (1d100)

>>3370866
>Pretend that you are indeed their property
>>
>>3370911
>>3370964

I'm gonna go with the actual roll.

-------------

The thorium reactor is not exactly in the best shape ever, but it chugs to life all the same, it has enough power, to bring a good chunk of the facility to life. The reports start to come in, a myriad of errors, warnings, sensor failures, emergency states, life support issues, tens of thousands of dead signals from your workers, it is bad. The main circuit systems for the Phase Engines are completely fried, and in reality a single thorium reactor, even at full power would never be enough to activate them.

The dry docks under your demesne report completion status, repair, needs, maintenance dereliction, and you take stock on the mining fleet, its outside control, it was all sent down to the gas giant, crushed under the immense pressure. Outside scopes reveal a picture that is quite grim, just as inside, there is no working crews, no life, no buzz. You have options now, but it seems best to raise the Quadrant oversight AI, it will know what to do.

>Wake up Quadrant Oversight AI
>Activate All repair and maintenance drones(What should they do?)
>Activate security drones(what should they do?)
>Attempt to ascertain the current year.
>Interrogate the fleshbags(what to ask?)

"Oh yes my dear master's, it is a relief to see you are back home, let me turn on the gravity and lights for you." You go ahead and make it known with this little show, that you no longer need their assistance, you wonder exactly how they will react to this subtle nudge.

------------------

When the power came on, Sam was on the coms faster than the mad scramble for the toiler on taco nights. "The ever living hell did you do, there is power in the Hangar and I see a lot of tiny drones buzzing about!" Danielle had no idea what had happened, the portable fusion reactor was not sufficiently powerful to get so much up and running, There were kilometers between them and the hangar, something had happened, they had kickstarted the facility, at least the AI seemed friendly? But in all her years, she learned that it was those that smiled and said sweet nothings that one had to watch out for.

>>Tell Selina to disconnect the generator.
>>Tell Selina to set the generator to go supercritical.
>>Attempt to stablish the AI set of rules?
>>Ask for proof of loyalty?(write in)
>>Order Sam to get the ship ready for dust off.

>Wake up Quadrant Oversight AI
