General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Feraligatr)
Sorbet (Vulpix)
Ghost Pepper (Rotom)

Location: Eelilee Festival grounds

Recently: Herb and company went through a house of mirrors!

Nice. Since you posted Sabrina I want you to know that, back in Kat's quest, Clair gave me a psychic sense sharing fetish that I find pretty hard to satisfy, but her bins hit all of my fucking buttons in ways I never imagined. So thanks for that!

I really hope that 2 isn't anything too bad.

I was thinking if we go another round at this, I’d like to try hard mode.

Like, play as a blind trainer.

Or a Primape that has “persuaded” a licensing office to give it a trainer’s license and starts out just bashing wild Pokémon over the head with a Kakuna as “training”.

“SORBET! FREEZE THE SEATS TO THE FRAME! GHOST! WHEREVER YOU ARE, STOP THE RIIIDE!” Your voice strains as you push your lungs to their limit. Everything around you is so loud.

You hope they heard you. You hope more, that you’re ordering the right thing. It’s hard to keep a cool head when you’re being flung about on this wild ride and surrounded by panic.

You try to reach out to hold Laki’s hand, but Laki puts a hand across your chest as if to protect you somehow. It just ends up knocking a tiny fraction of wind out of your lungs. Oof!

“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!” Keira screams. It’s so high pitched! She must really be scared. You-

Oh, that’s Max.

A hard beam of ice slams into the loose seating your pokemon are in. The beam combs over the spot loosely, but most of it manages to get where it needs to be. Gobble and Dice are sprayed a little too, but not enough to serious. The good thing is that the pokemon seem secured for now.

But where’s Ghost? What’s he-

CREEEEEEEEEEEEE! The ride comes to a grinding halt. You and everyone else sighs in relief.

But then it starts moving in reverse. The person at the controls looks confused and worried.

Oh hey, you can see Hana from here.

The unbalanced machine keeps picking up speed. The weight of the ice and still somewhat awkwardly bent bar over the pokemon seating has thrown it well out of whack.

“Try it again, Ghost!” You shout. “You can do it!”

After a few seconds of the machine getting faster and faster, you feel a sudden slowing. The machine then stutters, speeds up again, and slows down again. It seems...confused.

“What’s happening!” Laki shouts, calming down a bit but still very worked up.

“This is joyous!” Keira kicks her feet as she’s jerked around just like everyone else. “Weeeee!”

Max is turning a strange shade of purple.

Slowly, with what seems like a lot of practice, the machine begins to slow down for real, and comes to an eventual stop.

Your group is about ten feet up, still, when the safety bar comes loose.

“Is everyone alright?” The controller asks. He seems satisfied that there are no serious issues, and sighs to himself about how much trouble this is probably going to bring.

Max throws up. Your sister has to dodge it below.

Keira simply drops down, landing in a graceful, agile roll. Sometimes it’s hard to think of her as just human when you watch her do stuff like that.

You, Laki, and Max nonverbally try to figure out how you’re going to get down. Gobble, Dice, and Belladonna are all still in their secured seating, but they’re on the ground level and safe.

“Thanks Pepper. This is good.” You say to the machine, hoping he can hear you.

“Now what?” Laki asks.

You look around. “Hey, Keira, can Tropius help us?”

Keira turns her head sideways, confused for a moment. Then it hits her. “Oh yes! Of course! Tropius, come out!”

The huge flying pokemon helps you down one at a time. You note that even Keira let’s Max down last.

The pokemon that rode are let out of their seats. Gobble and Dice took a little bit of the ice attack, but are otherwise fine. Dice seems unfazed entirely. Belladonna hugs Laki tightly, but when you look closer you can tell she’s not bothered either. She just wants the attention.

Your sister gives you a big, warm hug. “Jeez, Squirt. You just can’t avoid trouble, can you?”

Before you can respond, Hana slams into her from behind, squeezing her into a three-way hug.

“Can we go again?” Keira asks. “I can just do it by myself if nobody else wants to.”

Your sister manages to get loose from the hug from Hana, who now looks incredibly awkward, remembering why she went off in the first place.

“S-sorry.” Hana says.

Your sister ignores her and marches towards the young man running the ride. “What the hell is wrong with this operation?”

Laki is approaching him from another angle, rolling up her sleeve.

I-I don’t know!” He throws his hands up defensively. But then Ghost appears from inside of the machine and zooms over to you. He suddenly goes on the offensive. “For all we know it was that Ghost pokemon!”

He looks very nervous, like he’ll fight any accusations that will get him in trouble.

Keira is riding Tropius in the background. She’s brimming with energy right now. Somehow, they manage not to run into any people or carts.

“Hey now. Ghost saved the day!” You come to your pokemon’s defense. “Pepper only went in after it broke. And we’d be in a real heap of trouble if he didn’t.”

Ghost appears from behind you, and seems genuinely surprised by the praise.

The guy looks defensive, but doesn’t want to press anything. “Well, I’m just glad you’re all safe. We’ll close this down and see what happened.”

You sister isn’t satisfied. “That’s it? We ought to sue your ass. What kind of operation are you running here where my own little brother would be put in danger.” She stops for a second. “And Max!”

Max holds up a hand weakly, then goes back to holding himself up. Keira rides up beside him and gently pats him on the back. You suppose even he could use a little compassion now and again.

“It’s okay.” You put a hand on your sister’s shoulder. Then Laki’s. “I’m just glad everyone is safe too. “Good job, Ghost.”

Sorbet puffs and impatient cloud of cold mist that makes your skirt-wearing sister jump.

“You too, Sorbet.”

She beams. You sister gives the snowy pokemon a nice scratch on the head and goes on about how cute it is for awhile, before going back to check on Max. “My poor baby.”

“Well, I’m all ride’d out.” Laki tells you. “It’s getting pretty late.”

“You guys just shrug all that stuff off, huh?” Valerie asks, looking more shellshocked than anyone that was on the ride. “I guess maybe I’m just used to everyone in the contest scene being so petty. So...what now?”

Rotom zooms nearby you, as if testing the waters. You reach out to pet him, get a tiny static shock, and he snickers and zooms away. A second later, he turns around to make sure he's still in your good graces. Seeing the smile on your face, he zooms away with relief.

“Welp, you have your contest, and we’ve had a long day. I guess we should call it here for the night instead of pressing our luck.” You chuckle mildly about what happened with the ride.

“Yeah.” Valerie sighs. “I guess it’s back to the grind for me. Walk me back to the contest area?”

The group obviously says yes.

“It’s not too late to sue them.” Your sister says, walking alongside you.

“She’s right. Herb. Laki, Keira. Think about it.” Max is already feeling better. “Isn’t this sponsored by Jacob’s company? I’m sure there are deep pockets.”

“It’s actually owned by the clergy.” Keira says, matter of factly. “And you can’t just sue them.” She almost giggles at the absurdity of the idea.

“Well, why not?” Your sister asks.

Keira opens her mouth, but has no actual answer.

“Yeesh. We don’t need money that badly.” Laki says, subconsciously holding her belly.

“Mom could.” Your sister mutters.

"I could." Abigail says, sounding almost envious of you and the others that were on the ride. "I'd do it even if I didn't get to keep the money."

One of the Island/mainland clashes is in relation to a poor understanding of the value of good QC. For example the professors poorly set up equipment and new high tech poke-center machines just left in storage rooms rather then properly set up and accessible. This would also give us an opportunity to show where its less a preserving of Loanan culture and more a lack of core concepts do to their lack of historical need. Less of a 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' and more of a 'if we didn't need it before why bother'.

Not a punitive thought and just a learning/teaching moment.

Just want to say that I've been following this quest from pretty much the beginning, and I often lament the fact that I almost never participate in the threads anymore. Feel like life keeps hammering me.

I really respect the drive you have to run so much for so long even when life gets kind of heavy, Gobble.
>>
>>3355694
[Aww shucks. I always feel guilty for not running enough. Thanks!]

“Heh, well, they could have at least refunded our tickets.” You say, mostly joking. That would have been nice, though. “If it were my best bet to make them take safety seriously, I guess I’d do it. But I don’t think we can really prove damages, and even if I could, well, it would just make me look anti-clergy in the news. I don’t need any more people seeing me as, well, forcing my way on other people.”

“Well I don’t like them just getting away with it.” Your sister says.

“Keira, would you be able to bring it up with the clergy?” You ask, then realize after that you might be putting her on the spot.

She does look uncomfortable, but not because of the imposition. “I think they'd be less likely to listen to me than somebody else, right now.”

“What do you mean?” Hana asks.

“She burned bridges switching careers. Not everyone is going to be happy that the prodigy child decided to hop ship to something else after being let out into the world for a short time.” Abigail says on her behalf, before chomping on some candy on a stick. You didn’t even see her buy that.

She did buy it, right? It just appeared in her hand.

Keira shyly looks at the ground as you walk, but still summons conviction in her voice. “I can try anyway, though. They should listen. It’s their duty.”

“I don’t want to cause trouble. I just think it’s important so people learn. I don’t want anyone to get hurt.” You explain.

“That’s my Squirt.” Your sister says, leaning on you like a post. “Too nice to a fault.”

“Exactly. A fault. Opportunities like this don’t come up often.” Max almost pouts. But seeing your sister start to sympathize with your point of view, he decides not to press the issue. For now.

Ghost Pepper seems to be an infectious good mood, and chases around Mace in the air. Mace uncharacteristically lets go of his disinterested ‘seen-it-all’ attitude and enjoys the game of air-tag.

Valerie laughs as she watches the two. “That’s be a cute routine.”

Her laughter fades when you arrive back at the contest area. You guess she’s staying somewhere inside. She looks stressed about her contest tomorrow.

“Come with us tonight.” You offer to Valerie. “You look like you could use more friend-time.”

Laki fiddles in place, holding her belly again. “I was hoping we could spend another n-” Hana interupts her with a whisper into her ears. Laki listens, then pushes Hana away half-playfully, half annoyed. “You’ve got a real one-track mind!”

Abigail rolls her eyes. Keira just cocks her head in confusion.

Valerie is busy looking back at the contest tent. She turns to you. “Alright. I don’t think I’m going to sleep anyway. Let’s do something fun!”

Before you can suggest what to do, your sister grabs your attention. “It was nice seeing you, Squirt. Max and I will be grabbing a hotel room, and then doing our own thing during the festival for most of tomorrow, but we’ll probably see you around.” She leans in close. “You be careful, alright? Don’t just go with whatever people want if it isn’t also something that makes you happy. And don’t just think with your dick.”

“I-”

“Shh.” She cuts you off. “I’m trusting you with these girls against my better judgement, because I know you’re a smart guy. You’re my baby brother, after all. Just...don’t let anyone put you in over your head. And come to me the second you need anything, alright? I know you're getting taller and filling out and getting all tanned and stuff, but you're still Squirt to me.”

She looks you in the eyes. Her face is covered with concern, but also another, different concern. She doesn’t want to step on your happiness if she’s wrong about being worried about Laki and Hana.

“Thanks. I love you” You tell her. “And, don’t hesitate to come to me either. Especially if Max...just, don’t hesitate, okay?”

“You got it, Squirt.” She says. As you hug, you give Max a look. Dead in the eye. You’ll be keeping an eye on him. He seems a little surprised at your directness, but shakes it off with a smug smirk and straightens his shirt.

You see your sister give Laki a gesture to show she’s watching her, too. Laki looks too surprised to be angry or sad or anything other than surprised, and looks around to make sure she’s the point being gestured to.

“Come on.” Laki takes you by the hand. “Let’s set up camp and make her and aunt whether she wants it or not.” You’re yanked into the woods. Everyone else follows.

By the time you’re all far enough away from the grounds to set up a camping spot, Laki’s calmed down a bit. You passed a few other groups of trainers with the same idea, so Laki kept pushing the group farther and farther out for some privacy. You’re pretty high up, but not at the snow.

“Woo.” Valerie says, exhausted. “I might be able to sleep after all. I’m going to be sore tomorrow walking back.”

“I’ll carry you.” Hana offers. “Advantage of robot legs. Oh, right. They probably need a charge.” She casually sets herself up on a place to sit and gets out her Chinchou. It’s amazing how comfortable she’s become with that in front of your group.

“So what now?” Abigail asks.

“I know. We’ll do a fun routine.” You say. “And cook while we do it!”

Gobble shoots up. He’s ready.

“I’ll help!” Hana joins in. “Umm, if I can do it while sitting. I’ll chop whatever you need.” She offers.

“Great! Anyone else?”

Sorbet jumps up. She wants to show off. Belladonna is eager to join as well.

“Well alright! We have a team going. We’ll-”

Hana’s Tirtouga slooooowly comes forward as well.

“Okay. You too, Tirtouga! Now who’s hungry?”

“I’ve got twice my normal appetite.” Laki says, sounding more hopeful than certain.

“Oh I shouldn’t, but I know how you cook, Herb. I’ll have some.”

“Dude, Goldentop. You know we’re going to eat whatever you make. Now entertain us, Mankey!” She jokes. "Chop chop!"

You check out your available ingredients. Confused at being restocked, you glance up at the group. Hana and Laki give you a sly wave.

Oh you are so lucky! They’re the best!

Now, what to make?

“I’ve got just the thing!” You announce. “First we need to set up. Oh boy! Okay, we’ll have our audience over here, and everyone helping over here. And we’ll need to hurry before it gets dark.”

You quickly get everyone to work. Hana is chopping. Gobble is supervising. Sorbet is watching the pot and strategically cooling it if it gets too hot to prevent burning, which is something you never would have thought of before but opens all sorts of opportunities for cooking thanks to her rapid cooling ability. Belladonna is fetching things and handling spices. Her grace allows her to use exactly the right amount, and she seems to have a real sense for it. Gobble is directing and supervising, giving the others guidance. He’s become a real leader.

“Wow!” The group reacts as Sorbet creates neat bursts of mist by carefully firing around the boiling cauldron.

Belladonna leaps over Hana, dropping a tomato for chopping. Hana catches it, almost fumbles it after, recovers, and then dices it with her robotic hand almost instantly.

Gobble, carefully lines up some dough that needs flattening. He inhales for a moment, concentrates, then kneeds it into oblivion like a martial artists.

You look down at Tirtouga. It looks like it wants to help, but it was too slow when everyone jumped to choose their own jobs. And you don’t really know what it can help with.

It looks up at you, looking for direction. It wants to help cook. Truthfully, you don't know how it can really make as big a difference as the others.

Valerie looks thrilled. She claps and laughs, and chats with Keira and Laki and Abigail. She has her pokemon out and they too, seem to enjoy the show without having to worry about doing a routine or getting anything perfect or just being in a hypercompetitive atmosphere.

“Umm, I uh...maybe you could do something flashy for us to give it a little flare.” You try to think. You really wish you knew what you could get Tirtouga to do. Hey, you know! “Hana, what sort of job would be could for Tirtouga?”

She looks a little on the spot. “I...uh...Oh! What about cleaning things off and deshelling the nuts?”

“Good idea! Go on, Tirtouga. There’s some right over there! We’re counting on you!”

The turtle pokemon slowly makes it’s way over. You, Gobble, Hana, Belladonna, and Sorbet rush around in a flurry of showy, flashy activity. You toss up ingredients, slice them in the air, pass them among each other, flare up the

Tirtouga ends up getting to where it needs to go and cracking a single large nut just in time to finish off the show. It sails out of it’s grasp and plops into the cauldron as the last bit of the act. Everyone watching seems to find it charming, and Tirtouga looks happy to have contributed, even that tiny amount. If it had done anything else, it wouldn't have been as special.

Keira blesses the meal, and everyone digs in.

“Holy...Oh man. Goldentop this is amashing.” Abigail compliments you without finishing chewing or swallowing. You don’t mind, because she’s so enthralled with the meal that she can’t help herself. That’s the biggest compliment a chef can get. “Awww yiish!” She slaps down a second serving right away onto her own plate.

Valerie, despite seeming to enjoy it, shows incredible restraint in having only a tiny portion. At least, at first. She too caves in and ends up having a lot more. Not as much as Abigail, but you don’t think anyone will match her.

Gobble takes his time attaching a small bib before carefully cutting himself a small portion, and eating it in a civilized manner with a fork. He repeats the process. Then again. Then a bit faster. His iron will prevents him from going too hard, but he does end up eating quite a fill anyway, though.

Even Gardevoir looks lively. She seems particularly cognizant at the moment, enjoying her meal. You’re not sure if you should leave her be or engage with her. She smiles down at Belladonna who seems to be the only one at the table not enjoying the meal. She doesn’t like fatty foods, and seems especially less hungry after it gets dark. She takes a small amount and then goofs off.

Keira hums and enjoys her food, but she looks distracted. She’s been watching you, Laki, and to a lesser degree Hana, all night.

Oh. She never really got a solid answer after Laki told her she’d think about things.

Cubone is sitting on a rock looking up at the moon, lost in thought.

I’ve always pictured us as giving her the preparation, emotionally, tactically, and combat-wise, to be able to enforce peace between her kind and their natural predators. Then letting her set out on her own, Pidgeotto-style to protect her tribe. We’ve given her time to watch and learn, but now it’s time to focus in on training her.
>>
>>3356729
The issue is that the last time this came up people were really against the idea of HERB being the one to catch them, and that just trade switching would be hurting their trust for whatever reason. I am not against it, and would love it if we "cheated" the system by using everyone's pool kind of communally. I also know it is a lot of effort to try and characterize so many characters that are in such close proximity. Then there's the issue of what happens when the other gals decide they want to catch some pokemon of their own as well, the pool just shrinks more and more! The only pokemon that I feel that Herb would have the best connection with outside of his own right now is Laki's Wailord and Chatot simply because they've been on screen the most.
>>
>>3356774
This is my position too. That said I wouldn't be heartbroken for a fire/ghost Marowak.
>>
>>3356823
Now, how did you think we should prepare her?

A combination of Smack Down and Thunder Punch seems like the most effective core of moves to give her a position of strength to fight with, given type matchups, stat spreads, mobility, and teachability to other Cubone/Marowak. It wouldn’t hurt to throw in things like boosting moves, protect, and stealth rocks.

And by following through on the aptitude she showed for fishing, she could get her tribe to produce something to trade with them. It could shift the relationship from one of predator/prey to one of protector/provider.

Lastly, by showing them that by evolving during the day they can keep their mono-ground type, they could lose their weakness to Mandibuzz’s dark typing.

Is there anything I missed? Because shifting the warring tribes model of wild Pokémon society to a united alliance that carefully manages their resources to co-exist (just as the Loanan people did) is quite possibly the most impactful humanitarian work that can be done given you consider Pokémon as having personhood, and I don’t want to fuck this up. If it goes well here, I could see people elsewhere taking note and following the example.

A Team Rocket quest focused on big heists and such. Could be that they’re fighting the pokegovernment or a rival team or maybe they’re simply the real problem. Maybe a bit of all of the above. Definitely something that doesn’t go, “but here’s why they’re totally still the most moral.”

Still doing my re-read.
Found that Cubone's goal is: “Saving others from being targeted by a Sky Terror.”

So I think the Pidgeotto comparison I made is pretty apt. It's what she wants.

I'm just really hoping that by waiting until now, letting her watch and learn from us, she'll do so in a way other than "kill/drive out the entire Mandibuzz/Vullaby population".

Not that we can't give her a position of power to work from. (Kantonian Marowak, Smack Down, Thunder Punch, Thick Club core).

>Spend the time chatting with Valerie. Really put her at ease

Then

>Sit with Cubone

Suppose we could ask Valerie if she wants the full-course massage, and when she says yes we tell Laki to massage Valerie the way we massage Laki, lewd included (unless Val objects, of course).

Because we know the two of them would enjoy it, it should leave Val all nice and relaxed for tomorrow, and frankly I think Herb's pelvis could use a night off.
>>
Shouldn’t someone else catch cubone? We are the only one with 6 Pokémon. I love Alolan Marowak, but we really should be more responsible about training who we already have.
>>
>>3363129
I don’t think anyone should catch her. We’re training her to prepare her to protect other Cubone from Mandibuzz.
>>
>>3363165
Kinda seems bad for the ecosystem, doesn’t it? Law of unintended consequences and all with the starving Vullaby. It still doesn’t change that we should be training our own Pokémon first. Only two of our four evolvable Pokémon have evolved. (Not counting Mace here.)

>>3363328
Well then that makes more sense. Still would be cooler for Hana if she does decide to stay with our group instead of going back. Alolan Marowak with Lightning Rod seems practical and fitting for her.
>>
>>3363435
I’m a little worried we’ll come off as either “you two can bind over being tragic orphans, because that’s a personality trait, right?” or “here, I don’t want her, you can have her”.
>>
>>3363769
Eh. I’d be more worried about that if it were with someone else. She should really know us better than that. A simple mention of the usefulness of Lightning Rod should cover that anyway. No more worrying about thunderstorms, etc.
>>
>>3356627
You had my attention but now you have my interest
>>
>>3363191
Um, you do remember that Gobble had a bit of a complex about evolving in Snorlax right? So that's why he hasn't evolved yet. And Alolan Volpix evolves by being exposed to an Ice Stone, not by leveling up. So your examples for why we need to focus on the pokemon we have are false.
>>
>>3364846
We haven’t been training with them much. It’s less about the methods and more about the time spent. We could’ve spent more time working with Gobble until he felt fully ready and there’s nothing stopping us from looking for an ice stone. I doubt a Pokémon as focused on feeling safe as Sorbet wouldn’t object. Extra points for getting permission to climb a mountain for one ourselves.

Heya gobs!

You decide you’ll have a but of a busy night. You want to talk to Valerie, Cubone, and then Laki about how she feels about Keira’s situation. And about how you feel about it. You’re sure your general lack of comment on what you’re thinking has been noticed, and you think it’s about time to clear the air.

“Don’t be shy Gobble. Eat as much as you want.” You casually tell your little guy as you pass by towards Valerie.

First you take a seat next to Valerie. She’s watching the sunset by the steep but relatively short cliff you’ve made camp near.

“Oh, hey Herb!” A smile masks her face as you approach. It’s the kind that looks too heavy to hold up with just face muscles. Most smiles don’t need to be held up. They float on their own. “What’s up?” She asks.

“What’s wrong?” You ask.

“Nothing.” She’s very quick to answer. You can almost feel a physical wall go up between the two of you as she glances back at the setting sun.

Of all of your peers, Valerie’s been the most reserved. Even Hana at her shyest is more open to people once she’s able to get to know what they’re all about. Valerie is the type of person that keeps her recipe book close to her chest even among friends. Although she’s always been friendly.

Her classically beautiful hair gleams in the fading sunlight, creating a reflective, almost blurry scattering of golden rays around her. It gives her an almost otherworldly look. It also keeps you from seeing the details of her face clearly.

>Come on. It’s me, Herb!

You sit in silence with Valerie for what feels like a good long time. You can hear your pokemon play behind you, and even hear Abigail point out where you are when someone asks. But since nobody comes to fetch you, you assume they were just wondering and that there’s nothing important.

The bright, shining sun comes down to the ocean horizon, slowly sinking into the water. Or at least, it gives the illusion of doing so. It’s breathtaking to just sit and watch the lines of light on the water do their little dance and feel the very warmth of the sun gently say goodnight as it tucks itself in for rest.

“Good night.” Gardevoir’s voice scares the fluff out of your pancakes. You didn’t even hear her come up from behind. Valerie had a jump too, and holds her chest as if to assure her beating heart.

“Gardevoir!” Valerie laughs. “We didn’t hear you coming.”

“Yes. The sun and it’s splendor can be hypnotizing, can’t it?” Gardevoir says. She stops before leaving you to say one last thing to you both. “My memories come and go with the sunlight. Yours will glow in the dark.”

Valerie seems struck by that statement. She turns to you. “Is something on your mind?”

You think for a moment. There’s a few things that float around in your head in the time between when you’re actively doing something.

“Do you think I’d make a good dad?”

She chokes on nothing in particular and coughs for a moment. You pat her on the back resist the urge to and ask how she is, since that’d obligate her to answer and make it worse. You wait patiently for her to recover. “A dad?” She wheezes. “W-why?” She takes another minute to clear her throat. “You know what? Nevermind. Herb, if you have children, you’d make a fantastic dad. You’d be a dad who listens, and is always there, and who inspires his kids. Your kids would be great, just by seeing your example on how to be a great human being and not wanting to disappoint you in their weaker moments. Not because they’d feel pushed, but because they’d feel pulled by you always uplifting their spirits. Herb, you’re what every girl wishes they had for a dad.”

“Did...you want to talk about your dad?”

“Huh? Where’d you get that idea, silly!” She playfully bats at you, but falls short. Her weak attempt is itself a sort of confession. “Well, okay. But before I start, just...don’t think I’m complaining. Everyone else has real reasons to be stressed and I’m just all flustered up.”

“Your problems always matter, because they’re your problems.” You quote what you heard your grandpa tell you sister one time before taking her aside for a talk. You don’t know what else to say. He always had the perfect way with words. He always knew what to say.

She smiles, but only for a moment. “Okay. So, my dad didn’t really do anything wrong, but he’s been...helping me with contests.”

“Helping?”

“Nothing bad. Just, anytime I need any costume help or practice, he gets something custom fitted for me or my pokemon, or trains tutors and coaches. I’ve learned a lot, and I’m really grateful, but...it feels so inauthentic. Like my routine is just something a bunch of distant, cold professionals calculated to best appeal to the local audience. And I want to appeal to my audience, but...*I’m* not. They are. There’s nothing *me* about it.” She sighs. “It’s so self centered, but sometimes I feel like just...bombing it. Doing my own routine with my own costumes. But I don’t even know if any of that would land. It uses a lot of things that are more familiar back home, and it’s not nearly as polished or professional as what I’ve been coached on. And it’s so...vulnerable and scary. But I don’t want to be ungrateful. The coaches all helped and worked hard, and papa does stop in to ask how I am and help. I’ve been the one keeping from him how I feel and I don’t even know why. And if I do my own routine, and it doesn't work out, I feel like I’d be self-centered and throw away all the hard work my pokemon put in to get this far.”

Maybe just ask him to give you the chance to come up with something completely original. You don't have to refuse help if it's for something specific, like training one of your pokemon how to backflip, or getting raw materials, but this way, the majority of the work will come from you.

You can’t help but imagine trying to walk in those heels. Frankly it’s a miracle she didn’t break an ankle on the walk here. She must have calf muscles as strong as Laki’s thigh muscles. But you don’t let that distract you. “Talk with the coaches and explain your ideas, tell them about how you want to make your own routine, but they're still professionals who can give you advice.”

“I’ve asked. Well, that’s not true. I’ve tried to ask. Everyone in show business is just so pushy and good at getting you to agree with what they want before you can even think!” She stands up, almost kicking at the air in frustration. “Maybe it’s my fault for being so weak and passive. I can’t stand the thought of people not liking me so I do anything they want. I wish I were brave like you.” She gasps and holds out her hands. “Not that anyone dislikes you! I just mean, you act on whatever you think is right and don’t worry about people liking you or not. And because you’re such a genuinely caring guy, people like you for that. It’s as plain as day!”

“Thanks, but let’s stick to you.”

“Right!” She refocuses. “I...I’ll just have to be direct. And even if they don’t want to hear it, I’ll have to say what’s in my heart.” She laughs nervously. “I mean, how am I going to perform for an audience honestly if I can’t even express myself honestly to my coaches. And...my dad.”

“I think you should call him. Tonight.”

She inhales deeply. “I’d...like to, but I know he has an early meeting. And I have practice early too. I don’t want to stress either of us out.”

“Well, I can give you a relaxing massage if you want. And your pokemon, too. That should loosen you up and help with the nerves.”

She sighs happily. “You know how to talk a girl into anything. Alright. I’ll call him and see you later tonight. Thanks, ~daddy.~” She winks at her reference to your previous talk. She walks away, and then you notice that Hana is approaching.

Hana tugs at her collar. “J-jeez. You’re going to share right? Heh.”

“Huh? Oh, sure. I’ll massage you too!”

She smiles, and seems to have some sort of epiphany in figuring out what you and Valerie were talking about. But there’s something else on her mind. “Hey, umm, so I’ve been thinking about Cubone. She seems pretty lost. Like she doesn't know what to do. I was, well, thinking of asking to catch her. But I don’t know if that’s a good idea. And I don’t want to mess with anything you might be doing. Are you...planning on catching Cubone?”

If ghost pepper possessed your limbs when you have them on would your internal reinforcements cause him to possess the whole system?

I guess its not really a right now question but for some reason I cant stop wondering this and imagining her turning into a kind of half-plate orange Iron-man.

“I think you’d be a good fit.” You assure her. “But we should talk with Cubone. Together.” You offer a hand.

“Oh thank Arceu-...thanks.” She redirects her gratitude to you. “I never know how to start serious talks.” She begins walking with you, but stops. “Hey, uh, can we have it near the charging stuff by the camp? My legs are still really low.”

You look down.

“On power.” She clarifies. “Like, two-three minutes.”

“Oh!”

You look over to the Chinchou passively charging waiting near the campfire. You don’t mind talking there, but Cubone seems to be the private type and might want to get away from the others for a talk that might get vulnerable. But if you had the chat away from Hana’s legs, you’d need to carry her or have her waddle or ride a pokemon. She’s comfortable with how she is, but you know she also hates making it someone else’s burden.

Cubone is sitting off alone, on another part of the cliff, watching the moon appear from the clouds.

Have Chinchou charge Hana's legs till they're at about an hour's charge remaining, then put off the rest of the charging until after the talk. If needed, turn off the legs once we find a good place to sit and talk to Cubone.

“I think Cubone would probably want to talk away from the other pokemon.” You say.

“But...”

“It’s okay. I can carry you while Chinchou charges your legs.”

She hesitates. “Even with just the arm I can be pretty heavy...”

“You’re not heavy. You’re my girl.” You say, taking both of her hands.

“Psht.” She tries not to laugh. “That’s so corny. And so you. It’s one thing if we’re in the heat of the moment and pantless, but...well, okay. I’m making it weirder by talking about it. Let’s just go. But promise you’ll tell me if I become a problem, okay? Because I don’t mind crawling back if you throw out your weak inferior bone-spine.” She half jokes at that last part.

She takes you over to Chinchou, where she thanks her pokemon for charging her legs, then you lift her up. Rather than carry her on her back, you hold her in front of you in a princess carry. It’s a little awkward at first to adjust to the unusual distribution of weight, but you quickly adapt.

Hana stays on your lap as you both sit by Cubone. Cubone looks up at you quizzically.

I wonder if Cubone’s goals have changed? Previously she said she wanted to protect others from Mandibuzz. I thought that was pretty noble and I wanted to support her in it, but that might be difficult if Hana’s on other islands long term.
>>
I just don’t want to look like we just forgot the moment we shared together where she opened up to us about that.

You give Hana a gentle nudge. She doesn’t have the leg-weight to easily counter balance, so you have to quickly grab her and hold her to keep her steady. She wiggles her bottom and gives you a cute, appreciative smile, then pulls your arms closer around her.

“Oh, right. Okay, so Cubone. Umm, we’re friends, right?”

Cubone stops to consider the question. Hana just meant it as an opening, but that seems to be a whole topic on it’s own.

“Well, I really do consider you a friend.” Hana says. “I mean, not my closest friend, but I think you’re a friend. And I’d like to be closer.” Hana’s voice has a slight cracking quality to it.

Cubone can’t seem to face Hana directly, and seems overwhelmed at the openness and desire for her company. She fiddles with her wooden club. You think she’s going to run for a moment, but instead Cubone quickly places a berry in Hana’s lap without looking.

“Awww, thanks Cubone!” Hana accepts the berry. “You didn’t need to do that though. I was actually hoping we could do something else...”

Cubone looks up.

“I want...to be your trainer. If that’s-”

Cubone immediately gets into a fighting stance. Her club is pointed at the both of you. If you weren’t holding Hana, she’d probably have fallen over.

[I'm afraid that's it for tonight. Thanks for coming everyone. We'll be running probably Saturday. Maaaaaybe Friday if we can swing it. We'll probably finally see how things land with Keira and see some new events at the festival.]

Thanks for running Gobble! I'm really looking forward to a lot of the stuff coming up, not just Keira stuff.

If she feels that strongly about it, we'll drop the whole thing. It was always just going to be a suggestion, nothing more.

Hey guys? I know I can tend to take things too literally, so I’ll ask you guys:

What did Garde mean about her memories/the sun?
>>
>>3366655
1. She's most collected during the day, it's comfortable for her due to her connection with the Solrocks for so long.
2.She's commenting about how her memories are fleeting, but that the one's with Herb are there even during the night.
3. She's psychic and connected to practically everyone in the camp even unconsciously, Herb's memories glow brightly.
4.I dunno, weird pokemon wisdom hullabaloo
>>
> Thanks, ~daddy.~” She winks
y-you too
>>
>>3366674
>Herb glows in the dark
He's a secret agent after all!

Man, if the Pokemon world was darker, or atleast more upfront about it and darker than it already is, why do i feel like people that could tap into aura would naturally gravitate to assassination
>>
>>3367030
Either that or Shoalin Monk types from the Kung-fu movies. I feel like Ninjas could probably benefit from being aura users too.

>>

We can give Hana a small agency transfusion here.

Hey Gobble, what's Gardevoir's ability, and what moves does she know?
>>
Wait, is this thread archived?
>>

It is now
>>
So, I finished re-reading the quest.
I'll get together a summary of our open quests/plot hooks, but I also want to get together a proposal for what moves and techniques to teach which pokemon, and how best to do so.

What moves/abilities do Laki's/Hana's/Keira's/Abi's pokemon have? There may be more opportunities like Wailord teaching Dice Liquidation that we could use.

[Her ability is Telepathy. Her moveset is, in theory, every move a Gardevoir knows according to the SM moveset list. But her memory issues might make that less thanr reliable.]
