Finally after two years in the service of the Dark Queen Quintis you have finally been promoted. No more marching through filthy peasant villages administering the Queen's justice, this is your chance to rise through the ranks of her Majesty's armies and become one of her generals, or so you thought.

Being placed in a garrison out in the middle of nowhere wasn't the promotion you had imagined, but after the death of your commander, your rise through the ranks seemed that much more possible. Through your leadership, your garrison holds its ground through an assault and infiltration by rebel forces and manages to capture two of its heroes. After transporting the two of them to the Capital, Queen Quintis decided to promote you to Captain and to add you to her collection of personal agents.

Your first mission as an agent of the Queen was quite the ordeal, nearly dying to a shape shifting mage, getting stampeded by a mercenary cavalry charge, and getting shot full of arrows as well as stabbed lot. In the end however you stopped the mercenaries attacking imperial caravans, and uncovered that they had been hired by the the rebels to disrupt trade between imperial, and desert merchants.

This is not the end of your troubles however upon returning to the Capital, you find that the rebels weren't just sitting on their hands while you were gone. They had advanced much closer to the Capital and would likely be on your doorstep in weeks. Not one to sit on her hands, the Queen has given you a mission to help prepare for the coming battle by killing off the shamans assisting the rebels.

While the mission was difficult, and you suffered losses, in the end you succeeded. Killing many of the shamans and their supporting troops. With the mission finished, you find yourself waiting while the Queen and her generals decide how to finish off the rebel threat once and for all.

“Well if they’re going to be a while, I think I’ll be off. I need to see how my troops are doing.” You say rising somewhat steadily to your feet.

“Farewell then Captain, when the generals finally figure out a plan the Queen will probably send me for you, so enjoy this time while you can because after this we won’t get another break until all of this rebellion crap is settled.” The Spymaster says as you pass out of the room and proceed out of the tower.

On your way back to the healer’s hospital, you reach into your pocket and pull out the Coin of Fate. Examining the coin only confirms your suspicion that the dream you’d had was real. The entirety of the coin was black and bared the visage of the Boris, the God of Misfortune. You flip the coin to test out whether it still had any power. The coin turns end over end and when it finally lands in your hand, you feel… nothing. You flip the coin a few more times and again nothing happens, it appeared as if the coin has lost all of its power. Putting the coin in you satchel for now, you arrive at the hospital in time to see your three lieutenants and most of your men gathering in front of the hospital.

“Leaving already?” you ask.

“Yes Captain, the head healer, Gregory said that are healthy enough to return to duty, well most of us anyway.” Ward says.

“My men will be a few more days, their wounds will take a little longer to heal.” Long adds his five remaining men assembled behind him.

“We’re heading back to Colonel Crawthorne, no doubt he’ll want our report before sending us back to work.” Nolan says as he checks the straps on his armor. “What about you Captain, get your next assignment from the Queen?”

“No I’m waiting for her and the generals, to make up their minds on exactly how they want to takedown the rebels, like you’re likely to be doing for the next few days. That and well…”

>Last post for the night

“I wanted your thoughts on how the mission went. In know we completed our objectives and managed to come back alive and that’s all a solider can ever hope of a mission, but I’d like to know your thoughts.”

The three Lieutenants nod, understanding of your request. Long is the first to speak “I know how you feel Captain, you’re wondering if you did something wrong, something that could have saved more lives.”

“But remember Captain,” Nolan says stepping forward “We all agreed to the plan, we all crafted it, and we’re all responsible.”

“And sometimes there’s nothing that can be done. No matter how good the plan or strong the solider people will die and battles will be lost. I’ve thought about it and there is nothing I would have done differently during that mission,” Ward adds.

“We all did what we could, and that’s all we can do, the rest is up to fate.” Nolan says as he gives one of his armor straps a final tug.

“So don’t beat yourself up Captain. You did just fine by me, and I’d be glad to fight under you again.” Long says placing his hand on your shoulder.

“As would I,” Ward and Nolan say simultaneously.

You can’t stop the smile that creeps across your lips as the lieutenants speak “Thank you lieutenants, I wouldn’t mind commanding you all again either. You were damn fine soldiers that would make any commander proud.”

You part ways amicably with the Lieutenants as they gather their men and head off toward the Colonel’s camp out the east gate. Still smiling you enter the hospital and head to the dormitory where you had stayed the night before. Inside a few of the beds were still occupied, mostly by the ten crossbowmen that still needed rest and healing, in one of the beds however was Mildri. She was awake, sitting up, and had her nose buried in a book. On the far side of the room were Selenas and Gregory. Gregory was hunched over the moaning man doing something while Selenas was doing her best to comfort the solider, all the while watching Gregory carefully.

So engrossed in her reading, Mildri doesn’t notice as you approach and jumps slightly, a decision she regrets with a wince, when you ask “How you feeling?”

“Ah, Baldr, I’m feeling better, the healers say that my wound is closing up faster than they expected and that I should be back on my feet soon.”

“That’s good to hear, but I want to know how you’re feeling,”

“Well I’m fine, I wasn’t in control for most of the mission, but,” Mildri’s pauses and her expression darkens as she takes a small breath “It’s Aborea I’m more worried about, she’s been quiet. No, that’s not quite right not quiet, but like she’s sleeping or something. Normally I can feel her lingering in the back of my mind, but right now I can’t. I think she’s still with me because if I concentrate, I can feel her presence but only a little and it’s very weak. I’ve tried to reach out and talk to her, but I can’t get a response. I think something might be wrong, that’s why I’m reading this.” She lifts up the book she was reading so that you can read the title Master Albrun’s Guide to Possession and the Binding of Spirits: Volume I “It says here that - in most cases of possession the host and spirit share the same energy, however the sprit itself maintains a separate supply of energy that it often uses to keep itself bound to its host. One method of exorcising a possessed individual is to exhaust the spirit’s supply of energy that it uses keep itself bound to its host. This method is extremely dangerous however, as the sprit will likely exhaust its hosts supply of energy killing them before tapping into their own supply – What if Aborea used her own energy during the mission instead of mine? That would explain why she’s so weak and unable to respond to me. If her binding to me is weak that would mean that I could exorcise her.” Mildri’s doesn’t so much say as mutter her last words, and while she said them, her face was full of doubt.

She’s wanted her body back for a while now and to be rid of Aborea, but now that the chance is in front of her, she is unsure. Can she banish someone who has been a part of her for so long? Your own thoughts are echoed on Mildri’s face as a myriad of expressions dance across it. What should she do?

>Tell Mildri she should exorcise Aborea, this is her chance to finally be free and to be herself.
>Suggest that Mildri help reinforce Aborea’s binding and bring her back. The two of them have been together for so long that you can’t help but see them as a pair.

"Whatever you decide Mildri, be it exorcising her or reinforcing her binding, I will stand by your decision and help you see it through."

Mildri looks up into your eyes and musters her courage “I… I… I need to do more reading,” she says tearing her gaze away from you and back to her book. Her eyes frantically scan the page while she begins to mutter inaudible words. You frown at her indecision, but were you in her shoes you weren’t so sure you could decide so easily either.

Leaving her to think over choices, you turn to see how Selenas and Gregory were coming along only to hear Selenas shriek “Baldr!” and come sprinting at you. You manage to brace yourself just in time as Selenas leaps at you in a flying hug that nearly knocks you over. “I missed you so much I-”

“Nearly bludgeoned me to death,” Gregory cuts in, rubbing his sore shoulder.

“Only because you said you would come and get me when he woke up.”

“My dear if I had done that, I don’t think Baldr would have gotten out of here to deliver his report to the Queen in time.”

Selenas releases you to turn and face Gregory “So? A promise is a promise and you should have kept your word.”

Gregory opens his mouth to respond, but thinks better of it and lets out a tired groan before turning away to go check on one of the crossbowmen. Satisfied with her victory Selenas turns back to you a bright happy smile returning to her face “I have so much to tell you.” She says as she grabs you by the hand and leads you from crossbowman to crossbowman going over a play by play of everything Gregory, the healers, and her had done to save them. In between beds she talks about how worried she had been when your unit had returned so battered and injured from the field. The entire time she keeps an iron grip on you hand as if she was never going to let go again. Even though you were still slightly drained from the Queen’s debriefing, listening to Selenas’s energetic and passionate description of the healers’ work and her constant tugging at your is enough to keep you awake and on your feet. As you reach the last of the injured crossbowmen Selenas finally takes a breath “Oh, I almost forgot. What happened on the mission?”

Sitting down on one of the vacant beds you relay everything that had happened during the attack on the ritual site. Selenas is glued to every word that spills from your mouth. By the time you finish your second retelling of the events that had happened that night, you are left exhausted. Sensing your weariness Gregory steps away from one of the crossbowmen to offer you a drink of water. “I think that’s enough for today Captain, you need rest, especially after giving a report to the Queen.”

“But-” Selenas tries to protest, but is cut off by Gregory.

“Young lady who is the head healer here? That’s right I am and I believe the Captain here needs more rest.

Gregory was right you did feel tired even more so than you had after your first report to the Queen and sleep sounded like just what you needed right now, but there were a few things you still wanted to get done today.

>Last post for the night and as a heads up I will be busy for the next few days so I will probably only be able to do one late night post a day.

Gregory was right, but Selenas’s dejected face was pulling at your heart. “Tell you what Selenas, While I rest, you can pick up supplies for me and then when I wake up, we’ll go and do whatever you want, sound good?” A smile returns to Selenas’s face as she nods. You give Selenas the list of supplies you needed and the money needed to get them. She almost bounces out the door once you give her the money.

>2 energy potions, 1 health potion, 1 witch’s brew, 2 Explosive Grenadoes purchased. You have 55 Gold remaining

You and Gregory smile after her as she goes. “She’s too sweet for this world and much too innocent for all this fighting,” Gregory remarks.

“She’s stronger than she appears,” you respond.

“I know that, she wasn’t afraid of the blood and the guts. She kept a cool head and smiled and comforted those men as best she could while we did everything we could to save them. What I meant was that I wish she didn’t have to do all that. If it weren’t for all this rebellion she could have doing something cleaner and better than putting soldiers’ guts back inside their bodies and sewing them back up.”

>I wish she didn’t have to either, if I could have stopped her from ever getting wrapped up in this rebellion I would have.
>Sure it’s not the best or cleanest life, but it saves lives and does a lot of good something this world needs a lot more of.

Gregory smiles warmly and gets a far off look in his eye as he says “Don’t we all, I thought I could when I was young. I thought that I could travel the land helping and healing where I could, but with all the fighting going on, I was pressed in to service as an army healer and saw the worst of what people could do to each other. I tried so save those that I could, but there’s only so much a healer can do. I’ve probably seen and had more people die under my care than most bloodthirsty warriors slay in a life time.” Gregory shakes himself to clear his mind “Ah, I guess what I mean to say is that disaster and pain will follow us no matter how far or fast we try to run. The problems of the world will dog us to the end of our days. Oh, look at me talking your ear off when you should be resting. Rest now Captain and don’t let this old man’s muttering keep you awake” Gregory says as he shuffles out the dormitory’s door.

Despite his words, you do ponder what Gregory had said. Even if you and Selenas do leave the Queen’s service someday will you be able to put all of this aside and live a simple life? Can you sit comfortably at home while danger still encroaches on the empire? Will Selenas be able to? You think these questions over until sleep finally over takes you.

When next you awake, you find the setting sun’s light shining through the dormitory’s windows. Rising to your feet feeling somewhat refreshed, but your mind still feels slightly muddled. Trying to shake the feeling, you walk outside to get some fresh air. On your way out the door, you notice that Mildri’s bed was empty. You ask a passing healer where she had gone to which he can only reply with a shrug saying that she was recovered enough to move around so they had released her. Heading out of the hospital, you bump into Selenas just returning with the supplies. “Baldr, you’re awake. Is something wrong?” she asks noticing the slightly distraught look on your face.

> “No, it’s nothing just a little groggy. Did you decide what you wanted to do this evening?” Mildri should be fine, it was her decision to make and whatever decision it was, she can do it on her own.

“It’s Mildri, I’m worried about her.” You say then go on to explain the conversation that you’d had with her earlier.

As you explain the situation, Selenas’s face goes from shocked, to worried, to serious in a matter of moments. As you’re about to finish your explanation, Selenas cuts you off “I saw her just a little bit ago she was in the market shopping for ingredients, or at least that’s what she told me, she might still be there, let’s go.” Selenas grabs your arm and tugs you along to back to the market. The two of you canvas the area and talk with anyone who looked like they sold magical or alchemical reagents.

Most of the merchants tell you that they hadn’t seen anyone matching Mildri’s description, but one an alchemist said that he’d sold a woman who looked like Mildri some reagents. You ask if he knew what the reagents were for to which the merchant can only respond with a shrug saying they were used in a lot of magical rituals for various purposes. He gives and equally unhelpful answer when you ask him if he’d seen where she’d gone after purchasing the materials.

With no other leads, you and Selenas continue to search the market “Oh my dearie, you look awful, did you lose something?” says a familiar voice. In a spot previously crammed full of market stalls, there now sat a large wagon and set up in front of it was Merrin, the goddess of trade, with a slightly concerned look on her face. You’d been able to trust Merrin in the past and you see no reason not to now. You quickly explain the situation to her. “Oh dear, so the lady with the twin souls is thinking about splitting huh, I’ll tell you what darling, since you’ve been such a good customer, I’ll offer you some free help just this once. Tell me, what ingredients did she buy from this alchemist?” you tell her “Hm, sounds to me like she’s planning a ritual that has something to do with bindings, but to weaken or strengthen them, I can’t say. What I can tell you though is that those kinds of rituals require a large area to work with, so where ever she went it will have to be a wide open space and she’ll probably have a ritual circle marked out inside of it.”

Your mind races as you try to remember all the wide open spaces Mildri could use within the city. “Any intersection of the cities large streets would work, but she’d likely have her ritual disturbed if she did them there so where ever she was, was wide open and secluded,” you mutter aloud.

“Well I know a few of those,” Selenas says “There’s an overgrown garden that used to be a part of a nobleman’s house nearby. There are also a large number of abandoned shacks on the poorer side of town she could do it in. Lastly there’s an amphitheater on the western side of town that isn’t being used right now and is kind of out of the way.”

You shoot a Selenas a quizzical look, “How do you know about all of these places?”

“I found them while I was looking for something we could do together.”

Still slightly confused how she would have found some of these places you consider your options.

>The overgrown garden sounds like secluded enough spot for a ritual.
>No one would question weird noises coming from a house in the slums.
>The amphitheater would certainly give Mildri enough space for her ritual.

“Let’s try the garden, she would probably want to perform the ritual in as secluded a place as possible.”

“Right, follow me” Selenas says as she grabs your arm and pulls you along with her through the dwindling market crowds and some of the Capital’s tighter alleyways, until you are eventually led to a rather run down looking manor. Around the backside of the manor in a fenced in area was the garden. Although now garden was quite the right word for it. It was now an overgrown snarl of bushes, shrubs, and small trees. As you and Selenas skirt around the fenced in garden looking for a way in, find an old entrance gate. Your hopes for an easy entrance are dashed however as the gate was iced over and frozen shut. It looked like Mildri had indeed chosen this as the spot and she wanted to make sure that no one was going to interrupt her during the ritual.

“Damn, what do we do now,” Selenas says as she gives the gate a solid kick.

>See if you can bust the gate down, you’ve got to get in there now.

“We’ll head around,” you say heading back toward the manor proper. The front door of the manor was, at one time, an elegantly carved wooden door. Now however after years of abandonment and lack of maintenance was worn and half rotten. A good shove and the door tears open. You find the inside of the manor to be in worse repair. A second floor stair well near the entrance had entirely collapsed along with a good portion of the second floor itself. It takes some time for you and Selenas to pick your way through rubble to find an entrance to the garden.

You find the entrance and to your relief the gate that separates it from the manor was, while certainly rusted, not iced over and gives in to your push. The gate swings in with an ear piercing screech and you and Selenas proceed out into the garden. Following the moss covered, grass obscured stone path that snakes through the gardens towering hedges you make your way deeper into the garden. You cut your way through snarls of branches and vines that obscure your path until at last, you break into a courtyard area in the middle of the garden. In the sun’s last dying light you survey the courtyard. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the large ruined fountain full of stagnant water that dominates the area. As you move to approach it Selenas reaches out a hand to stop you.

“Wait, do you hear that?” Stopping in your tracks you listen. “It sounds like...”

It is then that your ears pick it up. Soft, almost inaudible, “Chanting,” you finish for Selenas. Suddenly a soft blue light erupts from the other side of the fountain. Rushing around the fountain, you find Mildri vibrantly illuminated in the center of a magic circle. Her eyes shut, face scrunched in concentration as she mutters an incantation. You watch as a Mildri begins to glow with a blue aura then suddenly the outline of some creature parts from her body and is suspended in the air in front of her by almost ethereal chains leading out of Mildri’s body. As you stare at the suspended creature, its shape becomes more solidified and you can make out more of its features.

It was about the size of a twelve year old child with a ridge of crystalline ice running from its head down to its lower back, like hair. Its fingers were far longer than a child’s though and tipped with sharp claws rather than nails. Its legs were a kin to a dog’s, but its feet were like a human’s but rested on the balls of the foot rather than the heel. The creatures face was mostly human save for its nose which was almost flat against its face and had slits in its sides rather than under it.

Shaking yourself from your stupor, your brain kicks back in and starts to run at full gear. Mildri had hidden herself away to perform this ritual and hadn’t told you about it even though you had offered to help. Did she think you wouldn’t like what she was doing, or that you wouldn’t like the outcome of the ritual? Maybe you should stop her. Then again Mildri was a quiet and reserved person maybe she just wanted to do the ritual alone? And besides the last time you had tried to interrupt a mage casting in the middle of magic circle things hadn’t gone well. Your head races with these thoughts and more as the ritual continues in front of you.

>Interrupt Mildri, you don’t want her to do anything you or she might regret.

As your mind races, one thought rises above the rest. If Mildri wanted you here, she would have asked. You told her that the decision on what to do about Aborea was up to her, and that you would respect whatever decision she made. The ritual appeared to be under control and Mildri, while concentrating extremely hard, appeared to be just fine. Having seen enough, you turn and begin to walk away when Selenas grabs your arm “Where are you going?”

“I’ve seen enough, I just wanted to know if Mildri was okay and she is clearly fine. Besides if she wanted us here she would have asked us to be here.”

“But-”

“C’mon let’s go, I promised you we would do something together, so tell me what was it you wanted to do?”

In a firm, yet calm voice Selenas answers “If it’s up to me then I decide to stay here. Mildri is our friend and has helped us out many times, even if she doesn’t want any help, the least we can do is to be here for her.”

For the first time since you had met her back at the garrison, you feel the heat of Selenas’s passion as her eyes bore into you, not begging, but demanding that you stay.

“Alright,” you say with a sigh, “But let’s back up a bit, I don’t want our presence to interfere with the ritual.”

“Thank you,” Selenas says as the two of you back up and out of sight, just behind the fountain. Peeking up over the crumbling stone work, you watch as the creature in front of Mildri becomes nearly solid. Stopping her incantations Mildri opens her eyes and looks up at the creature “Aborea can you hear me, wake up.” She calls out to the suspended creature. It’s head thrashes form side to side for a few moments before the creature’s eyes open. The eyes had no pupils and appeared to be to pools of inky blackness that made it hard to tell where the creature was looking. The creature lets out a high pitched croak then stops and tries again. This time the sound was closer to something like speech. It takes the creature a few more tries until you hear it say quite clearly “Mildri.” Satisfied with the word, the creature goes on speaking its croaking, sometimes screeching voice. “What are you doing?”

“I’m performing a ritual, one that can go one of three ways. It can sever our bonds, sending you back to your world and leaving me demon free.”

Something like fear then anger flashes across the Aborea’s face. “So you’re finally going to be rid of me? Wel-”

“Let me finish,” Mildri cuts in, “This ritual can sever our bonds, or it can strengthen them binding us closer together stronger than before.” Mildri says, apprehension and doubt filling her words “Or I can pull you out of me and use what’s left of our binding energy to help you manifest in our world so that we can both live separately in this world. I’ve manifested you somewhat already so that we could talk before I decide what to do. I want to know what you want Aborea. Your fate rests on this decision and since we’ve been through so much together, I thought it unfair to give you no choice in the matter.”

Aborea recoils slightly, shocked at Mildri’s request. “What I want? Hmm, well I guess I’d want to manifest in this world if I could. My realm is too dangerous and besides its too much fun and way to interesting to just abandon this place.”

“Are you sure about that? Manifesting here could be just as dangerous as going back. If you’re found out as a demon here you might not just be killed. You might be captured and experimented upon, kept alive and tortured as a test subject forever.” The next words out of Mildri’s mouth are spoken more to herself than to Aborea. “And mages known to have summoned demons don’t live very long or pleasant lives either.”

“Sounds like you already know what you want to do,” Aborea scoffs.

“I’ll be honest, I thought I did. I didn’t want to send you back you’d helped me out so much already and sending you back would be like sending me back to the school I escaped from, so I just couldn’t do it. I was just going to strengthen our bonds, but when I read further into this book,” she says hefting up the book in her hands, “I found that I could bring you into this world, fully and materially. I didn’t want to do that though because it’s always dangerous to manifest a demon into the world.”

“You don’t want to manifest me because you think I’m too dangerous to be let out?” Aborea shouts incredulity creeping into her voice.

“Yes,” Mildri declares flatly “But that’s why I summoned you first before I just strengthened our bonds. I wanted to give you the chance to voice your opinion and to prove to me that I can trust you.”

Aborea squints scrutinizing Mildri for a moment before relaxing “You’re right, we- I mean I could be dangerous, but I promise you I won’t be. I know what has happened to demons who have been summoned before me. They have all suffered terribly and died horrific deaths. If I fail to keep my word I know that a similar fate will happen to me if I act out. I know that staying with you would be easier and would help me to live longer, but I want to be summoned. This world is so vast and colorful and diverse, I just couldn’t go back to my bleak and boring realm after seeing all of this.” Mildri bites her lip and looks away from Aborea, absorbed in her own thoughts. “Look I know that I’ve been bitch to you since we were bound together and that you shouldn’t expect anything different if I were separated, but that’s why I want to be separated I don’t want you to suffer anymore because of me. But I also don’t want to go back to my realm, so whatever you decide, please… please don’t send me back.” Aborea begs, her liquid black eyes beginning to shine with tears.

Mildri looks back up and stares determinedly at Aborea, “I told you, I would never send you back that would be far too cruel.” Mildri pauses for a moment and takes a deep breath, “Okay, I’ll summon you, as long as you’re willing to stay by me so that I can keep an eye on you and so that I won’t lose a friend.” Mildri says a smile stretching across her face. Closing her eyes once again, Mildri scrunches her face in concentration and begins chanting incantations once again.

“Thank you,” Aborea says as the light from the magic circle begins to glow brighter and she begins to solidify further. The ethereal chains leading from Mildri pull away from her and begin to coalesce into Aborea until in a final flash of light Aborea solidifies entirely and the magic circle dissipates. Spell finished Mildri collapses forward, but is caught by Aborea. With the last of her conscious energy Mildri points to a pile of cloth lying at the edge of the almost gone magic circle. “I brought you… some clothes… just… in case…” she pants before falling unconscious.

Before anyone has a chance to move however, there comes a shout from the manor behind you “Hello? Is anyone in here? Show yourself!” Illuminated in dancing torch light, were three of the city’s guards. Judging from their searching looks, they hadn’t spotted you yet, but they were heading your way and would come across you and the freshly summoned demon soon.

You look over at Selenas and whisper, “We’ve got to distract the guards, go help Aborea and I’ll see if I can’t draw them away from here.”

“Right,” Selenas says as she darts over and begins to help Aborea. Rising to your feet, you step forward into the guards’ torch light. Immediately all three guards spin to face you while one shouts “Halt, drop the weapon!”

“Easy there soldiers, I’m Captain Baldr, an agent of the Queen I came here to investigate some odd noises coming from the manor same as you.” You say taking another step toward the men.

“I said stop,” the guard says again entering a combative stance. Out of the corner of your eye you spot Selenas and Aborea carrying an unconscious Mildri toward the manor, you had to buy just a little more time. “Alright Alright,” you say stopping in your tracks and releasing your glaive letting it clatter to the stone.

“Okay now keep your hands where I can see them.” The paranoid guard says while his two companions close in to either side of you.

Keeping your hands out to your sides, you say “My badge of office is in my satchel. You can take a look for yourself.” The other two guards close quickly with you and while one knocks you to the ground binding your hands behind your back, the other pulls your shortsword from its scabbard and riffles through your satchel pulling out your grenadoes and then your badge of office. While the three guards discuss the genuineness of your badge, you watch as your three companions slip in to the manor and escape. After a bit of discussion the guards still aren’t entirely certain you are an agent of the Queen. “Sorry sir, but we’re going to have to take you in until we can confirm you are who say you are,” One of the guards says as he hauls you to your feet.”

“Very well I understand, you can never be too careful, especially when the rebels are so close.” You say just relived that your companions were able to slip away.

It doesn’t take too long after you were brought to the dungeons before the jailer accompanied by Randolf and the Spymaster come to release you. “Having a bit too much were we Captain,” the Spymaster chides as you step out of the cell and have your weapons returned to you. “What were you doing at the manor Baldr?” Randolf asks genuine curiosity in his voice.

>Only post of the night

“I needed a safe and out of the way place to help Mildri with her demon problem.”

Randolf’s eyebrows shoot up in surprise “What happened,” he says his voice utterly serious.

“Mildri has purged the demon from her body. We were using the manor’s garden for the ritual because it was secluded and large enough to host a magic circle.” Randolf fixes you with a blank stare while behind him the Spymaster lets out a low whistle. “Wow, so the ice queen finally evicted her upstairs resident. I didn’t think she’d ever be able to pull it off.”

“Is she alright?” Randolf asks.

“Well, before I got hauled off, I she looked fine, just drained, the whole ordeal took a lot out of her.”

“Where is she now?”

“I don’t know, Selenas helped her escape while I was getting arrested, I don’t know where they are now, but I assume it’s somewhere safe where Mildri can rest.”

Randolf nods trying to digest all that you had told him, “Well, things certainly don’t stay dull for you now do they Captain,” the Spymaster chuckles, “I-”

The Spymaster is cut off by an out of breath trooper who dashes into the room “Royal Spymaster sir, the Queen requests your presence.”

The Spymaster lets out a long sigh “So she wants me to be her little messenger boy does she. Ack, I hate when she’s like this. Well lads, congratulate the ice queen on her separation for me when you find her.” With that final goodbye, the Spymaster exits the dungeons following the messenger.

Randolf remains in his daze for a few more moments before shaking himself out of it “We should find Mildri as soon as possible exorcisms are easy thing to perform, especially oneself. But first I need to go and retrieve that goblin lieutenant from the meeting room and bring him to the hospital, the poor guy’s been passed out since his interrogation and I’m starting to worry for him. You go on ahead Baldr, I’ll catch up with you when I’m done.” He says before departing out the same door as the Spymaster.

Left alone in the dungeon, you reach out with the ring and call for Selenas. Getting no response you exit the dungeon, heading for the ritual site. As soon as you pass outside the walls of the dungeon Selenas answers your call. Baldr, I’m here are you alright?

I’m fine. Where are you and Mildri?

We’re at the healer’s hospital, Mildri is resting now.

Is Aborea there with you?

No, she helped me part of the way here then said it would be best if she wasn’t seen by people and took off, but she did say she wouldn’t be far.

Alright stay at the hospital, I’m coming to you. you say as you take off in the direction of the hospital. You’d have to brief the both of them on Randolf before he got there.

You navigate quickly through empty city streets. The sun had set hours ago and many people had settled in for the night. You meet a few guard patrols but none of them give you any trouble. When you arrive at the hospital, Selenas meets you at the door bringing you to an individual room on the second floor in which was Mildri who awakes blearily as you enter. You quickly explain the situation and that Randolf would arrive soon and likely have his own questions.

“Why didn’t you tell him the truth?” Selenas asks “I’m sure if you would have explained things to him he would understand.”

“I wasn’t so sure, and I didn’t want to reveal too much with the Spymaster so close.”

Selenas affixes you with an annoyed glare but is cut off before she can speak by Mildri who says weakly “I may have made a grave mistake in separating from Aborea, things are going to get a lot worse for us now.”

“Don’t think like that.” Selenas interjects “You made the right choice Mildri. Aborea was your friend and you did what you did to help her and yourself, I’m sure Aborea is grateful for what you did and she wouldn’t have wanted things any other way.”

“Even so, Randolf won’t think that way if he finds out the truth, he’ll likely tell the Queen, I’ll be detained and possibly killed and Aborea will…” Mildri’s voice fades out before she can finish her sentence.

“You don’t know that, Randolf is our friend, if we exp-”

“He is a commissar first,” Mildri cuts in “Who knows how many people thought he was their friend right before he killed them for treason.”

Selenas frowns at Mildri then turns her gaze back to you “Please Baldr, Randolf isn’t like what you think he’ll understand if we explain it to him.” She pleads.

>>
>>3444018

There are no specific laws dictating summoning demons, but summoners whose summons cause damage and kill people are held responsible for the summoned creatures actions.

Besides that law, there is only the precedent that demon summoners are harshly punished for bringing a demon into the world. Most times this precedent comes from locals themselves killing the offending summoner
>>

Yes just extremely busy and a little burnt. I'm just going to call this thread here and let it drop off the board, the next thread will come some time this week, most likely later in the week.

Thank you all for reading and tolerating my weird posting times.
