<May 5th, Saturday 4:30 PM>

You stood motionless, even your breathing slowed to a crawl, as your eyes stared blankly at the carnage in your home. The headless corpse of your, now former, partner Luis was splayed out near your sofa. His blood, still squirting from his neck, kept staining the carpet until a puddle seemed to form from the excess. Yet, you couldn't make any sense of it all as you stared at it slightly longer than you should have.

You heard shouting outside as you kept staring, almost like it was describing the gory spectacle in several indistinct voices. It was the first thing you heard since you snapped out of the trance, that state of mind you could only describe as instinctual and primal. There was a twitch in your eyes as your brain began to catch up to what you saw. It caused you to turn away from the scene, but not before you heard a familiar whirring, just beyond the living-room window.

The pace was slow, almost methodical, back to the bedroom, all the while your breathing began to speed up. There was no doubt what you saw in the living room was real, as the familiar, raw smell of a fresh body had entered your nose. Even still, you were walking away from it all to keep your mind from inferring the inevitable truth. The faster intake of breath nor the slower pace of your step was enough to prepare you for what you saw past your bedroom door however.

The living room's horrifying decorum was made impotent by the sheer massacre before you. Your bed, where Erick and yourself had spent weeks resting close to each other's warmth, was now half covered with the blood of your form boss; the other half was covered by what remained of his body. Similarly, the closet, front dresser and even part of the bathroom now held the lacerated bodies of FBI operatives. It was a sight out of a horror movie, something only a psychopath, a monster, would do. All highlighted by a massive cut, almost peering outside, throughout the room's walls.

You retched up what remained of your lunch, lurching over your side, and adding another disgusting addition to the desecrated decorum splattered on the carpet. Only after you finished emptying your stomach did you notice a familiar laser whirring and cutting away the bodies of the recently deceased. The sight would have turned your stomach further, until you heard another sound coming from beyond your door; a sound of shouting and loud footsteps approaching.

Even with the sight before you, and your mind still trying to process everything at once, you moved for the closet as quickly as you could. You knew what was about to happen, what you had just done and what most likely to come. As your feet almost slipped on the pooling blood, you reclined on the stained dufflebag and let out a breath. Looking straight out of the bedroom window, a multi-colored laser began tracing away your head, slab by slab.

"Gantz..." you groaned, "go fuck yourse-"

"-lf."

The end of your statement arrived to what you could only describe as an astonished and hostile crowd. Your eyes had been conscious to them even before the rest of your body finished teleportation. There were five of them here, two of which you recognized and the other three with covered faces. Of those five only four were pointing a gun to your head, while Luis Serras was trying to desperately call in to HQ.

You were still holding onto the dufflebag and Erick's sword when Rick began shouting.

"WHAT DID YOU DO?! WHERE THE HELL ARE WE?!"

You didn't reply, only staring blankly at all of them as they kept their weapons trained on your head. The only motion coming out of you was the light flare of your nostrils as your breathed in slowly. You didn't know why you didn't answer, or even lower the still active weapon in your hand when you stared at them. Honestly though, you doubt you could have given Rick a straight answer consider how much time he gave you to answer.

"ANSWER MY DAMN QUESTIONS, Paula Torrez, AND ANSWER THEM NOW! WHAT DID YOU FUCKING DO?!"

You weren't counting but you imagined it was less than 3 seconds before he asked again. Your eyes were still blankly staring, yet you caught glimpses of their weapons' safeties being off. Knowing how impatient Rick could get, it wouldn't be long before he commanded the others to unload their weapons on you. Though, he wouldn't get to as Luis came up behind him with some bad news.

"Chief, I've tried every frequency and there's no one picking up. Even the FBI's satellite frequency isn't worki-"

"Then figure out a damn way out of here! We've got our hands full with this domestic terrorist, unless you want to guard her by yourself?!"

"N-no, I'll try the hallway door again. But, just let me find a way out before you do anything rash."

"Then do it quickly", Rick commanded, keeping his eyes and weapon trained on you, "before I lose my patience again. Consider yourself lucky Paula, you have a stay of execution, unless you want to start cooperating?"

His question rang on deaf ears again, though you couldn't place what was causing you to be unresponsive. It felt like a lump in your throat at seeing them again, yet you couldn't blame everything on just guilt. Your mind didn't wander much further before a familiar whirr appeared next to you, and one of the operatives now trained his weapon on the person arriving. The black hair and young body however, began to snap your mind out of the stupor.

"Hey Pau-" Yukino began, and then quickly wince at the shotgun aimed at her head, "Whoa, wait, what's going on?! Who are-"

"What the hell is this?" Rick questions, a horrified expression lining up his face, "a child...? What the hell are you doing in this place?!"

"Wait, Paula didn't-" Yukino started before an assault rifle was lined up to her as well.

'No, I can't let them do this!'

"Stay back!", shout the operatives pointing their weapons at Yukino.

She remains still, but looks around very panicked for answers that most likely won't be arriving soon. A part of you almost reaches for your sword right then and there, but you don't if you have it in you to kill these people a second time. Seeing the weapons discipline from the operatives however, Rick holds out a hand motion to cease.

"Lower your weapons damnit, that's a little girl you're aiming at!"

"We're spotting multiple weapons on her person, we cannot do that sir! If she's aligned with the terrorists, then she's just as wanted as they are."

"Wait, I won't shoot!" Yukino proclaims, looking at you, "please, just tell me what happened! I'm sure Paula can-"

"Don't make a sudden moves!"

'Yukino...' the thought flashes in your head, 'they're going to-'

You don't let yourself finish that visualization, as you tense up your body again. Quickly surveying the current surrounding, you make a plan to disarm them, going for Rick and the operative next to him first but you'll need to be fast in your action. Hopefully, Yukino will react accordingly to your attempt.

"Put down those weapons, right now," the operative pointing a weapon at Yukino commands, " and put your hands behind your hea-"

That's all he manages to utter, as you follow through on his command for Yukino, and drop everything you have. The second they hit the floor, your foot reaches upwards in an arch, knocking away the shotgun of the operative in front of you. You don't stop for a second, and deliver a staggering cross to his head, and knock him sprawling on the floor. Though, as you turn, you're now face to face with the muzzle of Rick's handgun.

"NO!"

Yukino's scream echoes through the room and is deafened by the resounding 'BANG' of Rick's weapon. There's a moment of intense horror before you, as the flash of the weapon startles you and you actually see the bullet exit the chamber in that second. The massive intake of information ends the moment you feel what you can only think of as a pinprick on your forehead. Though you closed your eyes for the incoming projectile, they're now open to a very small, very squished bullet falling from your head.

"What the hell-"

You don't give Rick anymore time to think past his complete shock, as you raise an arm to his neck. With a push of your shoulders and a foot behind his heel, you expertly take him down. He grunts in pain on the floor, clutching his head, as you go for the remaining operatives, but soon find that Yukino has already taken down one of them as he lays clutching his groin.

"STAY BACK!" the remaining operative shouts, trying to choose which of you to shoot his assault rifle, "I'm warning you damnit! BOTH OF YOU STAY-"

A resounding slam of the hallway door causes the operative to almost fire on whoever opened it. You take the opportunity to rush him forward and roundhouse kick his rifle away, this one however fight's back and tries to do a similar take down on you. Though, your suit activates on your legs, and it's instead him that receives a slam on the floor.

"Damn, you guys put in some work."

Chris's voice makes your head turn, as he drags an unconscious Luis out from the hallway and into the main room. He gives you a wide grin as he places the man on the floor, and waves to Yukino, who returns it nervously. The slight peace is interrupted by the rising groans of Rick, as he regains his composure back to his feet and keeps the gun trained on you.

"What...the hell are you...people...?! How is this-"

"You're surprised?" You start, moving forward, "This is what you were looking for, all because you couldn't let it go Rick. We are not terrorists, but now you're just as much of a hostage as we are to this place."

"Don't fucking play games with me...what the hell are you talking about...?" he continues, as another laser cuts in another person behind you, "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS PLACE?!"

'If that gun can't penetrate the suit, then he's no threat here anymore.'

"Chris, Yukino" you call out, earning both of their attention, "get their weapons away from them and keep them under guard. We can't have any accidents here."

"Oh like hell you are!" Rick shouts, readying his pistol, "you think you can interfere with a police investigation-"

"If I give you an answer," you interrupt, as Dante's body finishes materializing, "if you're willing to cooperate. You don't have need for an investigation if I just admit what's happening here, right?"

Rick gives you a look of scorn, no doubt livid at your request and terrified at your current power to make it. In spite of his still shaking hands, he relents and puts his weapon down, knowing full well that it won't be able to hurt you.

"Fine, we'll play along for now", Rick replies, earning a look from Dante, "explain away if your'e so keen."

"For starters, we don't know what this place is called, but we were all brought here on the moment of our death, by that ball over there", you explain, pointing the center back of the room, "we call it Gantz, at the moment it current owns and uses our lives in some sick survival game. If you want any guidelines as to what the game involves, just look at the posters on the walls."

Dante follows your motion and points to the wall with the posters, detailing the specified rules and guidelines of Gantz. You can tell he's somewhat saddened to look at them, seeing as Carol and himself were their creators, but you sense a bit of pride there as well. Rick's eyes wander to the posters, and then back to you looking even more puzzled.

"Ok, say that I believe you and that this isn't the effect of some hallucinogenic substance pumping into my system right now. Why did you decide it was a good idea to fucking kill me and my men?!"

There's another sound of whirring lasers as almost everyone in the room gives you a look of sheer shock or horror. Dante is the first to speak up, very much disturbed by the revelation.

"This isn't true, right Paula? You didn't actually kill-"

"You'd better believe she did, sliced us all in half with that sword of hers. It all happened too fast for us to react, but she did it in cold blood!"

"Paula said you couldn't let it go or whatever" Yukino perks up, looking at Rick with disbelief, "there's now way she she would do something like this without a good reason! She's not a murderer!"

"You're right, she's a fugitive, and an aide to a homeland terrorist that killed us on an arrest to her home! It proves without a shadow of a doubt that-"

"I've heard enough out of your bitch ass!" Chris shouts, running and slamming Rick into the wall, "if you're going to threaten us, fine, we'll just fight back. But if you keep saying shit about Paula again-"

"Chris, don't do it!" Tanjeet shouts, surprising you as he moves towards him, "even if he's lying about it, we can't just kill him like this! Haven't you learned anything?!"

Chris hesitates for a moment, but keeps his arm pressed against Rick.

Might as well take it from the top. Starting from the explosion incident, through the events of the hunts that Paula's been on.
And, honestly? If we hadn't killed them personally, then Gantz would have first killed us then them, itself, in some way. Likely by hunting them down or organizing a series of accidents that would be far worse than how they originally went out.

The sound of more whirring from Gantz starts up again, as you move closer to Chris.

"Chris, let him go. He needs to know, otherwise him and his men won't survive this."

"But Paula-!" Chris exclaims, and Rick shifts his gaze to you, breathing quickly in Chris's grip.

"Please Chris" you plead, and Chris gives you a downcast look before he lets Rick go. The chief officer slumps up against the wall, clutching his neck in pain and breathing in a littler harder.

"Is he telling the truth?" Tanjeet asks, letting go of Chris, "did you really kill them all-"

"Everything he said was true" you interrupt, earning a shocked gasp from the newly arrived Silvia, "I had to do it in order to protect us. They broke into my house and were about to find Erick's stash of weapons if I didn't stop them."

You point to the still bloodied dufflebag next to Yukino, and all their eyes fall on it for a moment. Another whirr continues on in the distance as Dante lets out a sigh, no doubt of relief and worry.

"You had your reasons Paula and it's a good enough reason really considering what would have happened. But...you do realize what this means, right?"

"I know" you nod somberly, "but for now, I need to make sure we all survive this, including them. If anything, telling them everything now may help out in the long run, so round them up in this corner and we can go from there."

Dante nods and moves to the side of one of the unconscious operatives, pulling him up by the arms. You ask the others to do the same, as they carry the operatives to wall where Rick is laying in. Though some are still unconscious, you figure having them all in one place is better than having them spread out. Once they're all there, you approach Rick, who's recovered a little Chris's assault and begin explaining further on what happened with Gantz.

"For starters, let me rewind the clock to earlier in April, during the gas main explosion. I was deployed there for the evacuation, but I died saving the life of a man named Erick Vanders."

"And I'm supposed to just assume you weren't on part the cause for the explosion?" he interjected, but you ignored him.

"Afterwards, we were brought out to this exact same room, where we met Chris and Dante over there. They explained the same things to us as I did for Gantz and then the ball sent us to the Maine Street Pier."

"Yeah, I remember that day" Rick interjects again, looking at you expectantly, "they sent a special investigator for the morning after report. Talks about vandalism on a scale we hadn't see since last year's fire in the Verizon Center-"

Rick's involved dialogue trailed off as Gantz teleported in a new person. You didn't look back to see who it was, but Rick's next words gave you all the information needed.

"Allie Pierce..." he hissed, almost rising to his feet, "it's fucking Allie Pierce! I knew you people couldn't be trusted, you were involved with her from the fucking start!"

'Goddamnit, these people.'

"Rick, for fuck's sake, can you use your brain for three seconds?!"

There was a sheer frustration and annoyance in your voice as you stomped your foot forward to make your point. This whole situation with Rick had started out dangerous, but now it was turning very aggravating on you. On the side, you swear you heard Allie ask, 'What did I miss?', as you continued your tirade.

"People are teleporting here, piece-by-piece" you continue, and Rick tries and fails to interject again, "unless you can scientifically explain that to me, or how you're back here after you were JUST killed, then please just shut up and let me continue explaining things."

"This is all wrong, how can any of this even exist, it's like some fucked up conspir-"

"It is exactly that, a conspiracy the likes of which you and me are not at all prepared to comprehend and the only thing behind all of it, as far as any of us are aware, is that stupid black ball over there. The sooner you wrap your head around these facts, the better."

There was a lull in Rick's speech, as he slumped back to the wall, took in a deep breath and gave you a hard stare. It was a look you'd seen before, as he always had it in HQ to keep up appearances. You knew better, as it was a front to keep him from looking anymore like a fool here. Before long, he speaks up again, almost sounding defeated.

"Fine, I'll accept the possibility, but on one condition. You and that woman stay far the hell away from me and my men, understood?"

"And what possibility are you accepting?" Tanjeet interjects with his own question, and earning a sharp look from Rick. He doesn't lose his composure and just returns back the stare.

"The possibility that you are all as trapped here as I am" he replies, then looking over to you, "there'll be no further hostility from us if we're all in the same situation. But until you can prove that every single incident, from the gas main, to the pier, to the cathedral and the ransacking of the Smithsonian, wasn't your fault then I can't let the possibility go."

"Where you not listening to her you old bastard?!" Chris shouts, moving out of the semi-circle formed around the officers, "she's going to explain it to you! What more do you fucking want?"

"The word of a murderer isn't something I can trust on this" he replies, as another laser teleportation begins, "I need something substantial, actual evidence that you all didn't-"

"Oh I am done listening to you" Chris replies, lifting up his sword, "Let me do it Paula! He's just like that Arab motherfucker that killed Maria, never FUCKING listens!"

"PUT IT DOWN CHRIS!"

A familiar voice shouts over the din of the discussion, and all heads turn to see Kurtis. He's got an X-rifle primed right for Chris's head, and his eyes are deadly serious.

"I won't ask you again, and I sure as hell am going to repeat myself. You have 3 seconds."

You knew full well that if you ordered either of them to stand down, it was only going to upset the current fractures in the group further. Therefore, you had no hesitation as your body pushed past the small crowd and placed itself between the two parties. You gave a hard, serious look at Kurtis to keep him in his place but he only looked past you to Chris with his rifle still primed.

Chris, on the other hand, was glaring fire at Kurtis, but kept his sword down in an almost passive stance. Your own gaze shifted between the two, as the standoff endured, until Kurtis spoke up.

"Tell him to drop the sword, Paula. Otherwise, get out of the damn way."

"Don't worry, I'll do it myself" Chris interjected, and he promptly threw his sword to the ground with a rattling clang, "there, you fucking happy now? You still gonna shoot me Kurtis?"

There was a moment of confusion on Kurtis's face, and he almost seemed to lower the rifle, before he spoke again, "You think I'm that gullible? Take off the suit, and any other weapons you have on you."

"What? You want to see me naked that bad" Chris replied with a chuckle, which Kurtis retorted with by pressing down on one of the trigger, "Hey, fuck you! I dropped it-"

"So long as you have that suit, you're still a danger to this group. Now, take it off!"

"Both of you calm the fuck down! NOW!", your voice cut through their standoff, silencing the room again, yet both of them still kept a hostile stance towards the other.

"He's already disarmed Kurtis!" Dante announces, moving next to you, "he's not gonna hurt anyone now, just let it go!"

"You think someone like him isn't dangerous just because he doesn't have any weapons? He's playing you Dante-"

"He's not asking you trust him" Allie speaks up, now moving to your side as well, "just don't kill him! Please, just put it down Kurtis, for now at least."

Kurtis seems to hesitate further as Allie comes to your side, but he's still trying to get a bead on Chris regardless. You think about disarming him forceful, but you instead decide to appeal to that sense of duty of his.

"Kurtis, put that thing down" you start, keeping your serious tone, "there are five feds over there, brought here because I protected our weapons and my life. I need you to talk to them and explain what's happening otherwise this hunt will be all the worse."

There's a small flood of emotional output on Kurtis's face, ranging between confusion, shock and anger, and his hands shudder a little with the rifle. With an audible grunt of frustration, he lowers his weapon and moves past you and the others.

"Fine, I'll fill them in" he declares, then looks to Chris, "but keep him the fuck away from me."

You want to breathe a sigh of relief, but you know full well that the situation isn't over yet. As the others move to separate parts of the room, you see Chris and Dante move to the hallway where they promptly shut the door behind themselves and your headache returns at the noise.

You were both worried and proud of the restraint Chris showed during that exchange. Everyone in the room was nonetheless shocked or surprised that he dropped the weapon, so it had sent a message to them as well. Granted, you didn't know if he was really trying to calm Kurtis down or call his bluff, but were nonetheless glad he didn't commit after being threatened.

'He still needs help' you thought, looking down at Chris's sword next to Erick's own, 'but that's what Dante and myself promised him.'

You bent down to pick up Chris's sword and saw, in kneeling down, that Yukino was heading out to the hallway. It puzzled you why she was going there, but you picked up the sword and went to her side. She was in the process of turning the knob when you asked.

"Hey Yukino, mind if I go first? I need to give Chris his sword back."

"No problem Paula" she replied, moving to your side though somewhat shakily, "I just wanted to know why he threw down his sword. Also, why Kurtis was so mad at him and you..."

"Well, we can ask him together" you stated, moving the door knob, "but I get the feeling something else is troubling you. Is it about what happened with the officers?"

Yukino nodded her head before answering, "A little bit, but I know that you did it for a good reason. I don't think anyone wouldn't have killed if they were going to find you out."

The statement should have reassured you, but it drove a bit more guilt in your mind. It almost sounded like she was forcing herself to not be scared around you, yet knew full well that you weren't above ending someone's life. Kneeling down a little, you placed your hand on Yukino's shoulder and spoke in a calmed voice.

"I wouldn't have done something like that unless I had no choice Yukino. Don't worry, I haven't changed, but let's see if we can help Chris not change back now."

Yukino replied with a serious nod and you both entered the hallway. You found Chris and Dante discussing something near the door, and noticed Chris now had that massive weapon from the last hunt here.

"Then what am I supposed to do Dante? Just ignore him, go alone and hope that he doesn't just let me die?"

"I'm not saying that, I'm just saying you should keep your distance from the main team. It'll be like old times, just you and me-"

They turned their heads as you and Yukino entered the scene and you could spot several ounces of worry in Dante's face while Chris's own was labeled with frustration. Upon noticing his sword in your hands, Chris spoke up again.

"Hey, thanks for bringing it back Paula. I knew I could trust you, but I didn't think you'd have my back that far."

"It was a promise" you reply, handing the weapon back to him, "I did say I was going to help you."

"But how are you gonna help Kurtis?" Dante says, looking over to the door, "we were talking about going solo for this one to keep Kurtis happy. You want in?"

"I'm sorry but I can't let you both do that" you answer, earning a look of concern from Chris, "not only because it's too dangerous to be separated, but neither of you is going to resolve anything if you're by yourselves."

"Yeah, tell that Kurtis" Chris replies, sheathing his sword, "he didn't even stop after I dropped my sword. I say, better avoid him before one of us ends up dead."

He lifts the massive weapon off the ground like nothing, propping it up against his shoulder, and looks at you with an expectant look. You let out a sigh, before moving closer and speaking.

"Chris, let me first thank you for showing restraint in that situation, since it would have been difficult for most people to do. But please remember that Kurtis is only doing because he's afraid of what happened to Maria, happening to someone else."

"You think I'm not worried as well?" Dante replies, looking over to Yukino, "you think he would even let Chris near some of the other members in his current state?"

"Kurtis will calm down eventually, but Chris needs to give him a reason to calm down. He reacted to you dropping the sword so, maybe there's something there."

"Then what do you propose I do?" Chris replies incredulously, "Just sit around, not draw my gun and let the aliens kill us anyways?"

"We'll do it like we always did" you continue, raising your fist, "when the aliens start attacking, our focus will be on them and not on killing each other. The aliens should be our enemies here anyways."

Your argument issues a grimace on Chris's face, probably part of Dante's worry is casting over on him. He lets out a sigh, before speaking up again.

"Fine, but I don't know how Kurtis is going to react regardless. Like he said, just keep him the fuck away from me."

"I won't let him hurt you Chris" you respond with a serious look, "but Erick brought Kurtis back and I promised Erick to help him with that. I'll talk to him, and we'll be the meanest team to fucking alien-"

Your words stopped in your mouth as a familiar whimsical melody overcame your conversation. Everyone's heads turned back to the hall door and, without hesitation, opened it to the other room. The ball's strange song overcame the different conversations ongoing in the room as you entered with the others, and brought everyone's attention dead center. Though, to the far wall, the officers seem to stir with caution.

"It's just like you said..." a weary looking Rick spoke up, exchanging a glance to Kurtis, "but why the hell is it doing that?"

"We don't know, but it's probably like a school bell" Allie replies, looking down at the officer below, "if anything it's to get our attention before it gives us the objective for tonight."

"I think the better question is" Luis, finally awake, says somewhat jokingly, "why the hell is it playing that song in particular, it's so surreal Isn't that song from SpongeBob?"

The song ended with Gantz's usual message, fading just as quickly reveal the evening's quarry. Its portrait looked legitimately alien, like a horrifying monster this time and unlike any of the creatures you faced previously. You almost wondered how something like this would be able to naturally blend in the city.

"Vermin Alien..." Rick read out loud, moving closer with his team, "is this some kind of joke? We're fighting 'aliens' now?"

"You would think that after we explained it all you'd be more believing" Allie added, looking somewhat annoyed, "yeah, they're aliens, we don't know why or how they're here, but they're here now."

"It's too much information is all" Luis interjects, looking to you now, "we need time to process, even if you're telling us the truth. Though, so far, you've been on the nose with-"

The ball opened up with a loud slam, interrupting Luis and almost making Rick jump at the sudden motion. Allie gave him and the other officers a smug look before moving to the left rack and picking up one of the suit casings.

"Like Kurtis said, wear one of these" Allie spoke up, and bringing the case to Luis, "it'll greatly increase your chances of survival. Also, pick out a gun from the right rack and we'll help you in understanding how it works."

"Wait a minute" Rick says, standing up, "we agreed to listen, but so far everything is going out of focus right now. You were right about the ball, and whatever may be going on here, but now you expect us to kill alongside this game with you?"

"We never said we expected you to kill" Kurtis answers, looking straight at Rick's group, "but if you're not going to, then at least stay within the hunt's boundaries. Don't get in our way either, it'll lessen everyone's chances of survival."

Rick didn't reply, instead opting to just huff in frustration and sit near his men. You saw that the operatives were now woken up, but they were all just as reclusive as Rick and stuck to their side of the wall. Luis, on the other hand, took the case after sparing a glance to Rick, and went out to the hallway, giving you a courteous nod before heading in.

"At least one of them has some common sense", Chris comments, chuckling a little as he heads to the ball's display, "so, what do you think this faggot's got going on? You know, besides looking like he needs a good teeth pulling?"

Tanjeet and Yukino go over to his side, looking over the target, before Tanjeet speaks up, "That skin looks like some kind of armor plating. Though, I'm more concerned with whatever that protrusion is on its head."

"Hey!" one of the operatives speaks up, getting your attention, "what about our weapons? You can't expect us to defend ourselves with something we're unfamiliar with right?"

'Christ these, these guys are so needy for government workers.'

"Sorry, but you weapons will probably be useless out there" you state, earning a look of worry from the operatives and Rick, "almost all of the aliens we've killed so far have had some way to survive being shot even with our own weapons. I don't think anything short of a tank round could even hurt some of the things we've faced out there."

"You're bluffing" another operative down replies, with a look of disbelief, "there's no way your weapons could be that effective. There's no technology in the world that advanced."

"Yeah you're right" you respond, turning away from them with a serious look in your eyes, "the teleporting ball that can copy and paste your body like a computer is easier to believe. But, just indulge me for a second then."

"You saw how that bullet didn't enter my head, Rick? Well, I'll tell you how after this."

You kneel down to grab the flattened bullet from the floor, and chuck it straight to Rick. He catches it, and the other operatives eye it with worry. Their eyes fall on you as you head for your dufflebag in the middle of the room.Opening it up, you pull out a normal water bottle you hauled out of the last training session.

You lift it up for them to see and then pull out a pistol from the dufflebag, also displaying it for them. As soon as you showed them, you place it on the floor and shoot it with the pistol. After a few seconds, the bottle explodes in a shower of water and plastic that drenches you and Rick's group. They can only stare in complete shock at what they just witnessed as you give them a quick explanation.

"Your weapons will still be here when we get back at the end of the hunt. Assuming you survive in the first place, that is."

"But how the hell did-" one of the operatives speaks up, holding the bullet in his hand.

"It's because of this" you answer, pointing at your suit, "Allie wasn't joking with saying it will help you guys survive. Just stay out of our way when we're out there, you'll believe us soon enough when we get there."

They all looked at you with more concern in their eyes than before, but you could see some of their heads nodding a bit. Whether or not this meant they at least understood the situation, would be determined later tonight. You could hear Chris chuckling to himself in amusement behind you as you finished your statement, just as soon as another message was displayed on Gantz's screen.

"Is that what I think it means?" Silvia spoke up, as the side door opened next to her. She peered inside, while the others went nearby to look through the room. Looking alongside them, you caught a glimpse of two changes in the room. The weapon and equipment racks were still there, but there seemed to be a new addition to part of the room. It looked like a small weapons's case with strange spheres inside, while the other change was that large, circular indent in the center of the room was now glowing.

You moved past the others to far end of the room, where those spheres were and plucked one out of the display case. It was perfectly black and round, except for a small indent at the top that showed a wide, flat button. You weighed it and tossed it a bit in your hand, before placing it back in the display case and motioning the others to come in.

"Not gonna assume anything but" you stated, as they came into the room, "but I think these might be grenades. Don't fiddle with them too much, I don't know what the payload could be for these things."

"Don't need to tell me twice" Tanjeet responds, looking over the display case, "but at least Gantz restocked the other equipment at least. Though, if you want to hand them to the rookies..."

"It's fine, let them have some if they want" you reply, now looking over the indent on the floor, "and explain to them how the guns work. If we're going by past hunts, Gantz will give us five minutes at the most before it starts teleporting people again."

Tanjeet nods in agreement, before he starts looking over the new weapons with the others. You don't pay it much attention, as you step over to the glowing indent. The line dividing the floor and the strange indent is glowing a phosphorescent blue, and that odd rod was glowing in a thin line along its shaft. You try to pull it and push it, but even with the suit the rod doesn't budge an inch. Not long afterwards, Chris arrives next to you, probably to inspect the oddity as well.

"You know, I've seen something like this in a game before" Chris comments, looking over the indent, "it's like a puzzle or a test you have to answer correct for something to happen. You tried that rod yet?"

"It doesn't move" you reply, shaking your head as you try in vain to move the rod, "even the suit can't move it. Doesn't make any sense either because it's got a winch or something on the floor to indicate it moving."

"Let me help" Chris says, moving his hands on the rod, "here, just pull it with me. If worst comes to worse, then it breaks and we don't have to worry about it anymore."

That dumb chuckle of his convinces you to help, but more because you want to see what will happen. Though, as soon as you place your hands on it, the glow on the indent stops and the floor beneath you begins to descend down very quickly. The slight shock is enough to send your stomach to your throat, but the floor slows down significantly as you a glowing white light beneath you.

It nonetheless slams you and Chris to the ground, but as you rise to inspect your new surroundings your eyes almost give out from the sheer white of the room. Everything from the walls, to the floor, and even the ceiling was white or covered in a white light. This was a contrast to the two strange, single wheeled vehicles you spotted right right in front of you.

'What is all this...?' you think, looking at the two black contrasts to the room.

"Whoa, are those things...like, bikes?!" Chris exclaimed, getting up from the floor, "Let's check 'em out Paula!"

Chris rushed out of the platform's landing zone and moved forward to the closest one of the 'bikes'. He looked it over with genuine curiosity, poking and prodding at the alien vehicle. His apparent joy in looking a these things reminded you a child in a toy shop. As you were getting up to join him in investigating the vehicles, Yukino's voice called out from the aperture above.

"Are you guys ok down there?! Need us to come down?"

"We're fine, don't worry!" you answered back, and saw that Dante and Allie were crowding around the hole as well, "We found some new gear down here and we're gonna check it out. Make sure all the newbies have their gears and could someone toss me my dufflebag down here with one of those spheres?"

"I'll get your gear Paula!" Yukino said, disappearing from the hole, and Dante continued, "Allie and me will try to get the new guys their gear, don't worry!"

You gave them a 'Thank you!' before they left for their designated tasks. Right afterwards, you joined Chris in the inspection of these 'bikes' by looking at the one right next to his. As you approached though, the design seemed to brim with even more oddities that appeared whole impossible to you.

For starters, they were mono-wheeled yet were standing in perfect balance without any supporting brake or rod. That wasn't accounting for the massive brick of a motor, or what you thought was a motor, jutting out from its front like a battering ram. Once you got close to it, the design was even more odd as the exhaust ports, steering brace and even the seat looked like some kind of maniac's design first draft.

At the very back, you spotted another strange protrusion, though it bore a resemblance to the seat's footing platforms and cushion. You guessed it was a passenger's seat but there were no belts, harness or anything to prevent the person riding from being flung out. This whole thing looked like a roadside accident waiting to happen, and you were more than a little apprehensive of trying it.

"YO THIS THING IS SICK!" Chris shouted, as you heard the rumbling of a large motor, "PAULA CHECK IT OUT!"

Your attention was now placed on Chris's bike, which he had somehow managed to turn on and was now riding at high speed around the room. From the second the motor turned on, it had managed to accelerate to what you could guess was over 70 mph and still seemed to keep accelerating. What's more, it could impossibly enough turn on a dime even with that singular wheel.

'Gantz, you fucking psychopath' you thought, and then gave your own bike a look, 'but...I guess that's par for the course now.'

You took an begrudging seat on the vehicle and see a small computer screen similar to your radar below the steering bar. Pressing down on it, it turns on, along with the motor of the vehicle, displaying your name on it as well as a map of the apartment.

These things should have their own cloak as well as a customized radar, since the manga had it that way.

Also, I think there was a function to customize the seat height for the passenger as well.

<Gantz Bike - Mastery - (Novice)>

Chris's antics, and over-excitement, can probably tell you more than you need to know about what these things limits can be; even moreso if he crashes. Not that wished that last part of course, but it'll at least tell you how durable these things are. What you're more interested in are any additional features it held, considering how uninformative Gantz loved to be with equipment.

Looking over the primary display, and ignoring Chris's joyride around the room, you saw that the radar on-screen was a carbon copy of your own. The room displayed was certainly the white one, as Chris's dot ran around the map in circles, and you could freely adjust it to see the one above as well The only real difference was that this was a touch screen display, where all of its functions were shown in buttons along the top, including a cloaking feature.

'Now, what about the other parts' you thought, looking at some of the other driver's components.

The seat itself was rigid, and didn't let your recline much besides the normal standing position. The front platforms were apparently the pedals for acceleration and break respectively, though you didn't see a single parking break on this thing. It surprised you how sensitive these petals were, as a slight tap on the accelerate almost had you to half of Chris's speed, while the brake stopped the vehicle cold without much momentum whiplash. There were also a few buttons on the front display, each aligned above the radar screen.

The farthest left brought down a visor-like scanner, which when you looked through it showed a similar x-ray vision to the pistols and rifle. The middle one seemed to raise and lower the passenger platform, but only to two different heights. The right most one caused the bike to turn off, though it was an immediate switch compared to any gradual engine shutdown.

As you finished looking over the driver's seat, you moved to other parts of the vehicle and found that it wasn't really much else. You rode the passenger seat but again it seemed more like a platform than a seat with actual safety. There was also no fuel tank, the exhaust wasn't noxious at all and even the engine didn't carry any sort of motion when rumbling to a start like a normal bike.

"Paula!" Yukino's voice called out as you were finishing your inspection, "I got your gear!"

"I got it!" Chris replied, as he wheeled right below the hole, "Drop it! I'll get it to her."

Yukino did as Chris suggested, and he caught it with an open hand before bringing it over to you with a grin on his face.

"Whoa", Yukino called out, looking down into the pit, "are those bikes?"

"Hell yeah they are!" Chris called back, placing himself below the hole, "They're super fast and super baddass!"

Yukino's curious look turned to a smile before speaking, "Can I see them as well? Paula, can I?"

"Sure, and make sure to bring your gear with you!" you answer, and taking into account the fall height, "also, land on the platform below, it's slightly raised from the ground. Don't want to overexert the suit now."

"Got it!" Yukino shouted back, and she quickly disappeared from the hole's edge.

Not a second later, you saw her come back with something in her arms as she sat down to drop from the edge. There was a part of you that was worried at the height, as it was almost two stories down, but you knew that the suits could take bigger drops. Nonetheless, you waited with baited breath as Yukino's body dropped to the bottom and landed with a kneel on the raised platform.

A cloud of white smoke was released from the shoes, as Yukino spoke up, "I was just getting one of those turtle things from the racks. Anyways, show me what it does Paula."

You gave her a look and saw she was carrying her sword along with one of the net pistols and, just as she mentioned, was hauling one of those jamming devices beneath her arms. Chris seemed to follow right behind her as she approached your side, no doubt to show her what it could do as well. There was an appropriately childlike curiosity as she looked over the bike and the various parts. Finally, she came to your side and looked over the radar display.

"I can't believe Gantz had something like this hiding right below us the whole time. Have you driven it yet?"

"Nah, she's been holding out", Chris answers for you, earning an annoyed stare from you, "but whatev's we can always test them out more in the mission. There's another seat on the back, you want to see how fast I can make it go Yukino?"

Just as Yukino turns to face him, you hear the sound of a piston activate and lift up. You and the others turn to see the platform rising to the hole, leaving an circular, black pillar that rises to the ceiling.

"Are we trapped?" Yukino asks, looking back at you, "this isn't part of the game right-"

She stops as you see a laser drop down from the pillar's side as it starts teleporting Chris away, slab by slab. Chris looked back confused, shrugging a bit before the rest of him and the bike are teleported out of the room. Yukino doesn't waste another second as she raises herself to the passenger platform, and you hold on tightly to the duffelbag with Erick's weapon stash.

"You good back there Yukino?" you asked, looking back at her, to which she gave you a thumbs up, "Cool, just hang on if we have to go fast. That seat doesn't have any safety harness worth speaking of and-"

"Hey Paula" Yukino interjected, looking over to you from the back seat, "don't worry, we'll get Erick back this time. I'll be fine."

The genuine reassurance was something you had needed for a while now. Not because you didn't think you believe you could do it, but because your head was too full of negativity over the last week. You gave Yukino a smile in agreement before the laser hit you.

<CONTINUED>
>>
>>3434774

It puzzled you how the teleportation had taken about as long as you'd remembered, even with the added mass of the bike, the gear and Yukino, before you arrived to your new destination. You brushed this away as, your eyes were in darkness as they adjusted to the lower light of your destination. The glow of rows of dimmed out lights, some of which flickered, seemed to the only source of illumination in what looked like a massive tunnel. After a few seconds of your eyes adjusting however, you noticed that the lights were edging out a raised platform over several tracks.

"The subway" you blurt out, looking around your surroundings for any further indicators, "why here though...? It can't expect us to search out the whole metro system right?"

As you continued pondering, you spotted a sign near your platform and you could barely make out 'Metro Center' written on it. You knew this place well, as it was the nexus hub of the majority of DC's subway lines. Though, judging by the lowered lights and lack of people and trains, it must have been shut down as well because of that rescue operation.

"Hey Paula" Yukino's spoke, interrupting your light surveillance, "do you see anyone else around here?"

"No, I didn't see anyone either" you reply, now growing worried, "maybe they haven't arrived yet or they're a little further out. Either way, I'll look to the radar and see what it bring up."

You heard a worried 'Ok' from Yukino before you looked over the bike's radar. Yet, the moment you opened it, several revelations came rushing onto the screen. As you looked at the map, it became apparent at how widespread it was this time, encompassing a good portion of the downtown subway line. Secondly, the normally limited amount of dots on screen were now almost filling parts of it.

'What the hell...' you thought, as you looked over it, 'there's no way this is real. This has to be an error maybe it's picking up civilians above-ground."

You quickly adjusted the frequency on it and saw how wrong you really were. There were dozens, almost hundreds of signatures throughout the map, each of them seeming to converge on platforms throughout downtown. What's more, there were about six or so near your location yet none of them seemed to be moving. You adjusted the frequency to look for your team, and hope that they were nearby.

The map displayed their positions, yet they were several ways away. There was a single signature, moving at high speeds in Mcpherson's place in Chinatown, while 10 or 11 were out near McPherson's square though it looked like they were above ground. Judging by the data, they were quite far from your location.

'Trying to spice things up Gantz?' you thought, disgusted at the current situation, 'what kind of shit joke is this...?'

"What did you find Paula?" Yukino's voice speaks up again, sounding a little more worried this time.

"Yukino, hang on" you announced, crossing the dufflebag's strap over to your other shoulder, "Gantz separated us in the hunting grounds and we need to meet up with the others as soon as we can. I'll fill you in as we go."

"I hope the others are ok..." Yukino replies, as you adjust yourself to the seat, "wait, how far away are they-"

Yukino's sentence is cut off as you press down on the pedal and the bike accelerates to an obscene speed. Yukino's voice turns to a scream of surprise as you quickly maneuver the bike to the train tracks, landing with a slight bump below you. Yet, even with how fast its going, the steering brace is incredibly responsive, making the necessary turns in the dim tunnel smoothly.

"THIS IS TOO FAST!" Yukino exclaims, echoing in the tunnel, "HOW FAR AWAY IS IT?!"

"The map designated an area several miles across" you reply, relying on the external illumination to guide your way to the next station, "but this shouldn't take too long with this thing! It also detected a lot of aliens, so keep your weapon out and your eyes peeled!"

"I'LL TRY!" she replies, and you hear the unsheathing of a sword behind you, "IS IT SAFE TO RUN ON THE TRAIN RAILS LIKE THIS, PAULA?!"

"We should be fine!" you answer, keeping your eyes on the rail, "subways are shut down until tomorrow, so there shouldn't be any active trains!"

There's an audible 'OK' from Yukino that sounds somewhat worried in spite of your reassurance. Regardless, you keep a steady pace to Gallery Place and your teammate in need.

<2:45:24>

While your focus was on the road, you spared a few glances around the tunnel and the scanner itself for any aliens out there. All of these efforts came up blank as you arrived to the next platform, finding no trace or signatures of aliens nearby. In fact, there didn't seem to be any signatures nearby anymore, save for two near the entrance of the subway station.

"Leave the bike for now" you commanded to Yukino, as you leap from the driver's seat, "and get ready to attack, since we have an extra one right here."

"Right!" Yukino replied, as you quickly climbed up the railing.

The loud clang of your footsteps resounded in the empty platform as you approached your targets. The sound of struggling could be heard as your rounded the path to the escalator, quickly climbing up to the floor above. As you reached it, your almost gagged at what you saw and smelled.

All around the second floor, were the littered and squished bodies of massive, cockroach-like creatures, some of which were still twitching. Cockroaches was the only thing you could call them, and the creature now struggling with Chris, trying desperately to escape to the surface. It was half covered in worn rags, almost like a real person, until you saw the black antennae and mandibles trying to get at Chris.

"PAULA! KILL IT!" Chris called out, struggling to keep it way, "THIS THING IS STRONG! JUST KILL IT!"

At the current range, shooting this thing with a weapon was asking for a misfire, especially since it currently in a tussle with Chris. Trying to pull him away with the suit wasn't going to be of much help if it decided to swerve in your grasp and bite your head off. Thus, even with the apparent danger, you unsheathed Erick's sword ran forward.

"Yukino stay back!" you shout, as the crunching and twitching body parts crack beneath your feet, "CHRIS! GET OUT OF THE WAY!"

Your shout was enough to get his attention, even as you continue to run forward, as he pushes off of the alien. The alien doesn't budge too much however and almost lurches forward to run at him, before it turns its head to your moving body. It let out a hissing screech, as you aimed your strike.

The alien's mandibles leaned forward, no doubt trying to catch your head or neck as you reached the final point of contact. Its large body almost seemed to betray just how quickly it had met your attack, yet you were one step faster as you planted your foot forward and took your swing. Erick's sword dug into the alien's body, letting out a slight crack as it cut its way through its side, into its abdomen and out of the other side.

A spray of yellow and brown fluid hit you and Chris as the alien's body was separated in two. The sheer force of your attack, enhanced by the power of the suit, sent the alien's now detached upper body flying to the wall while its lower body dropped to the floor with a wet crunch. You almost gagged at the disgusting smell now so close to your mouth and nostrils.

"Haha, hell yeah, Paula!" Chris exclaimed, grinning like a madman, "see, didn't I tell you I'd save you one?"

"More like came at the nick of time" you reply, looking around the battlefield, "but, how did you manage all of this when just one was giving you trouble. In fact, what were you even doing here and not trying to regroup with us?"

"I got the jump on these fuckers" Chris replies, kicking one of the corpses, "caught them enjoying a little snack break on this platform as I was about to leave. The guy you cut was apparently taking a dump before he saw me killing his fri-"

A chittering hiss, overcame Chris's explanation as something jumped to his torso, almost toppling him to the ground. You stepped back to see that the severed upper half of the alien was still, somehow, moving perfectly well and clinging to Chris in an attempt to bite his head off. You were about to help him out, when you suddenly felt the ground give under you. Something had just tripped you, and that something was now crawling on your back, and putting its creeping legs over your back. '

'What the fuck, how is it still moving?!' you exclaimed in your head, trying get on your back to give this thing a swift kick.

"Chris, don't move!" Yukino's voice cut over the struggle. Your focus was still on the alien's lower body, trying desperately to escape it. You heard a sharp squeal and a sword slice through the air, but you then felt something pointed and sharp start poking your lower back.

"Oh hell, no," you said, lifting your elbow, aimed straight at the alien's remaining body. The enhanced strike caused it to lurch back, and you quickly flipped yourself and delivered a kick sending it to the wall again. Not a second later, it exploded to pieces after a shot from Yukino's pistol finished it off. After catching your breath for a bit, you got up with the aid of Chris and Yukino.

"I've read about this" Yukino declares, looking at the exploded corpse, "that roaches have a circulatory system that lets them breathe without a head and nerves that can act independent of the brain. What are the chances these guys are the same...?"

"Swords, slice them apart" you reply, sheathing Erick's blade, "then blast them to bits with the regular guns. Take out any we see on our way back to the others."

Chris huffs before answering, "Sure, no complaints from me. Just let me find my gun before we leave, bastard knocked it off the platform."

You nod to Chris, who goes off to the bottom of the platform to look for his weapon. You motion to Yukino to follow you back to the bike, but you spot her looking at the remains of the aliens squished on the platform. You mind the slight circular step, no doubt created by the pressure of Chris's weapon, as you head to see what she's doing.

"Yukino, we have to go. The others could be in danger if we don't get moving-"

"This wasn't an alien Paula" she interrupts, looking at something on the floor.

"What are you talking about?" you ask, approaching closer, and then catch a glimpse of what she was looking at.

Between the disgusting alien vital fluid and gore, there were the splatters of red blood, chunky viscera and a severed human hand. It was perfectly sliced off at wrist, yet everything else about it seemed unkempt down to the fingernails. There was a cold chill up your spine as you surveyed more of the scene.

The alien remains were still wearing clothes when they died, but were now stamped to the gore. If they were wearing clothes, then it meant that they were trying to blend into society yet the one Chris fought was clearly noticeable through its disguise. The rags it wore looked like that of a homeless person, so it could only mean one of two things. Yukino immediately rose, with a horrified look on her face before you spoke.

"We need to speak to Chris" you say, looking over to bottom of the platform, "whatever happened here, Chris has to know."

Yukino nods and you both descend to the bottom floor again. It doesn't take you long to find Chris, as he's trying to right up his bike near one of the bathroom stalls. You see he's got his 100 point weapon in hand, but the urgency of knowing what really happened takes over for a moment or rationale. He spots you, as soon as he manages to get his bike back on its wheel.

"Chris, what exactly happened up there?" you ask, and he gives you a confused look, "I mean, did only encounter aliens up there...?"

"Yeah, as far as the gun could tell" he answered, hoisting up his weapon, "they looked human enough, but not so much after I got the drop on them. The one that came out of the bathroom though, that fucker straight up took off his face and outer layer before he tried to kill me."

"What do you mean took off his face?" Yukino asked, looking seriously at him, "like, where they wearing a person or-"

"Gross, but no they weren't" he replies, taking a seat in his bike, "they were more like using a disguise that looked human but opened up and the roach was under it; and put on a lot of coats. Now, can we get out of here and help the others or is this gonna turn into 20 questions?"

"Did you notice anyone else down there?"

As the words reach Chris's ears, he turns to give you a puzzled look. He doesn't reply immediately, instead getting out of his bike before moving closer to you.

"No, I didn't" he answers plainly, still looking a little confused, "I didn't see any of us when I killed those aliens, and I sure as fuck wouldn't have fired off if I could kill one of us."

"She means if you say any other person there" Yukino interjects, earning an even more puzzled look from Chris, "we just want to know if-"

"What? What do you want to know?" Chris interrupts, somewhat annoyed by the line of questioning, "if I killed someone up there?"

"What were they eating Chris?" you interject as well, earning another annoyed look from him, "were they eating someone over there Chris?"

"No! They weren't eating anyone over there" he answers, getting more irritated, "they were eating garbage or whatever leftovers they could find out of one of those trash cans. I didn't get a good look but they for sure weren't eating anyone."

'Then it wasn't a victim' you conclude, narrowing your eyes, 'or a just cause to believe he knew there was a human there. He must have not known then...'

Letting out a small sigh, you scratch your head and reply back, "alright, let's go then. Come on Yukino."

"I'm not stupid you know" Chris stated, stomping a foot, "I wouldn't have known if there was someone over there when I pulled the trigger. If I did kill someone then, I'm sorry, but I can't risk an opportunity to save us over their lives Paula."

"So you confessed!" Yukino almost shouts, pointing her finger to him, "You should have seen him through the scanner!"

"Don't point at me, Yukino" Chris replies, almost swatting away her hand, "and I said that I didn't know if I did! There was no way I could have seen if there was someone there anyways since they were crowded in a circle and the scanner just picks up the first body for X-rays."

"But you did kill someone Chris" Yukino continues, now looking somewhat angry herself, "I found a severed hand and blood in that big pile with the rest of the aliens."

Chris did a double take on Yukino and yourself, before he replied with a scowl, "are you seriously gonna rail on me after we just got done with killing a bunch of aliens here? What the does anyone even care about a hobo's dea-"

His small tirade was suddenly stopped at the sound of skittering several legs. Judging from the direction of the sound, they were coming from the other tunnel entrance and seemed to moving very quickly with how loud the sound was coming. Whatever worry or anger was in your heads, there was a greater fear overcoming it now. You made for the bike with Yukino in tow, while Chris boarded his own bike and made for the subway tunnel.

As you made your way to your bike, the skittering from the other tunnel entrance seemed to only get louder. The sound only hasted you and Yukino to the bike's seats, as you quickly boarded and started up the bike. By then however, the sound had reached a few feet away from you. You gave the rear one look before you left to follow Chris and saw that there were now about seven roaches approaching quickly from all sides of the tunnel.

These looked different however, as the normally upright and tout form of the humans you saw previously appeared smaller now. Their bodies were more angular, and their legs seemed to cover more ground than the other ones. You didn't give it too much of an analysis however, as you quickly rev'd up the bike and made for the other tunnel. Several loud squeals and screeching, much higher pitched than the previous.

"They're gaining really fast Paula!" Yukino shouted, shooting off some blasts from her pistol.

From the rapidly fading squealing and squelching sounds, she had at least hit a couple. You were giving the bike everything it could accelerate, but the sheer speed at which these things could chase was disturbingly close. Then, you heard screaming, as you turned to see one of those things had jumped on the back seat and was trying to bite at Yukino.

"N-no! Paula!" she screamed, as she was trying to punch and throw that thing away from her.

'I can't shot!' you thought, and then turned quickly as a slight turn came up in the tunnel, 'damn this fucking train path! I have to throw it off then, but I don't know how much this thing can hold...'

You turned your head again to see that some of the other roaches were gaining closer as well, though some of them were now on the walls and ceilings, no doubt to get a better vantage point of attack.

"HANG ON YUKINO!"

<SUCCESS>

There is a wave of motion in your stomach as you move the bike to a grossly close turn to the right wall of the subway tunnel. The sheer speed of the bike and the sharp intake of motion causes you to almost tip out of the vehicle. You manage to stop in time before you hit the wall however, as Yukino's screams turn to grunts of effort again.

The insane maneuver must have pulled that bug away, so you try to repeat the motion once again. This time, to the left tunnel, turning at such an angle that most other bikes would have tipped right over. This kind of reckless maneuvering seemed to be having its effect, as you heard a squeal of pain in the back as a yellow and brown liquid splattered on your hair. Throughout all of this, the speed of the bike remains at what you hoped was 100 MPH, and hopefully enough to outrun those things.

"PAULA! HEADS UP!"

Yukino's voice cried out too late as you then felt a heavy weight on the front of the bike and two sets of chattering front teeth and mandibles. Yet instead of maneuvering to take you out, these roaches were latched straight to the motor and were starting to bite down hard on the electronics. For a second you gawked at their audacity to try to bite through the metal-like component, until their mandibles managed to bit right into it, bending and puncturing the chassis like cardboard.

'They're gonna disable the bike!' you shout, and try to think what to bring out of that dufflebag.

There were only so many options left to you, as you knew that if you stopped then the other cockroaches behind would catch up easily; though you didn't know how many there were. Then there was the off chance that you would hit the motor yourself with one of the weapons yourself. So, you chose the only option you had left, and the only one you'd really committed to this entire time.

"YUKINO, HOLD ON TO YOUR SEAT!"

You didn't wait for her to respond, as you gripped the front directional bar with all your might. As the roaches's bites were now drawing sparks from the motor, you gave the bar a hard right tug. In a horrifyingly fast turn, the bike almost seemed to turn 180 degrees with that single turn like whirling dervish. The sheer motion of it made your stomach turn, but you kept your grip hard on the bar. The roaches however, even with their hooked legs and claws, weren't as lucky as they were flung to the walls with great force.

You heard two satisfying splats as you pulled away from that onslaught, but the sound of chittering legs continued behind your bike. Yukino's groans of probably nausea and disorientation were right behind you as well, and didn't know if she would be able to repel one of those things again if they tried to board again. That was when you saw a dim light a few meters away from a long circular gateway.

'The other station!' you surmised, trying desperately to speed up the bike.

Right as you entered the threshold, you saw Chris extending his heavy weapon to the entrance.

OOC: We'll continue this one on Sunday at 10 AM EST.

Sorry for being so slow with updates this week guys, but I have recently started getting more busy with other parts of my life. I'll update you guys further on Sunday on this.

You quickly pass Chris's standing form, as you see his fingers close on the triggers for his weapon. You swerve near the middle of the platform, turning towards him not a few feet from the entrance. Just beyond him, you can see several more of those fast roaches approaching the tunnel's entrance. You don't know what he's got planned, but you move out of the bike's seat and run towards him with Yukino.

"Whatever the hell you're about to do Chris" you announce, now aiming a pistol at the tunnel's opening, "we'll get any that try to get out of your weapon fire."

Yukino nods at him next to you, as she also readies her weapon. Chris doesn't reply, but he wouldn't have had a chance to do so as the swarm of roaches reach the tunnel's opening. You immediately press down on the triggers at the closest ones but Chris beats to you and Yukino to the attack. As the first few roaches leave the tunnel, they are flatted with that same gravitic force you saw back in the warehouse.

Its range was about the same as the pistols it seemed, but the area of effect for one shot was almost a few meters wide. The sheer power of this weapon carves a shallow circular hole on the ground, cutting apart anything on the edges including the rail-tracks. Chris doesn't relent in his shots however, and just as soon as the next few roaches come in, he fires off another blast.

The amount of dust brought up from each shot almost made it hard to see if anymore where coming through, but then the squealing stopped. After what seemed like ten or so shots from that weapon, you saw that whatever roaches remained in the tunnel were either limping away with what remained of their body parts or trying to desperately make it to Chris. On your word, you and Yukino dispatched the remaining stragglers with ease.

"What is that, like fifteen for me?" Chris brags, looking over the carnage near the entrance, "all thanks to 100 points in the bank. You think Gantz will get me another one of these if I get to 100 again?"

You do a double take on him, as you holster you weapon and approach forward, "What? Didn't we discuss that we are going to bring back Haley and get you and Dante out of here?"

Chris's eyes opened wide for a moment, and then contorted to a look of guilt before saying, "S-shit...you're right Paula. Damnit, it's just that when...I was killing them I remembered just how good it felt back then, you know."

"Chris, it's fine, but you can't go losing sight of your objective for this" you soothe, as Yukino approaches as well, "either way though, thank you. I don't think we could have killed all of them without you, and I'm sorry about what we said back in the other station."

"It's fine, I know you're only looking out for me" he answers, then turning to Yukino, "and I'm also sorry for losing it a bit back then. Now, let's get out of here and report back to the others."

You nodded your head, and moved back to the bike.

OOC: Alright guys, I've got some pretty bad news right now.

As of today, I will have to take another hiatus for school as I will be ingressing into a master's program in the coming weeks. This will be a more intensive degree of studying on my end, so I have to make some cuts in my life to fit into this tighter schedule. At most, it should be until May 20th. Also, I lost the use of my car so scheduling is going to be even more tight because of it.

Sorry to dump this all on you guys, especially in an action intensive sequence and episode but I had to come clean sooner than later. We will come back to this again, but I just need some time to adjust my life.

Thank you for understanding /qst/ and good evening.
>>
>>3452840
It's okay, I figured you were getting busier and busier. Hell, almost everyone in /qst/ except the neets get busier come springtime.
See you next episode, whenever that is, boss.

Thanks for running and good luck with your Studies!

You know, I just noticed Rick hasn't asked us about Erick, maybe because of all the shit that was thrown his way recently. It would be really awkward to explain that Erick dies last week
