Last time...

A thread ended early.

Where were we?

Right.

The cabbage, called Erapch's cabbage after its discoverer, has become quite popular. Its raw taste is not peppery, but somewhere close to it, tangy, if one had to use such a word. When cooked, it is drier, with its popularity owing to the various ways it can be prepared as well, including pickling.

While before your calendar was simply a monthly solar calendar, improvements in techniques of measurement have enabled you to come up with a weekly calendar, though many call the months and the weeks by different names depending on where they live. The astrolabe has also been introduced from the savage lands of the orcs, where they use the strange device in their sailing. However, that is not the only thing of significance that has come to pass recently. An assassination attempt was made on the chief, only foiled by an ability he had kept hidden all this time: due to a blessing from Esaudh, he and his predecessors have been able to detect poisons and diseases, be it in a form such as a plant or a drink, or in the much more complex form of a human body. The chief has not pointed fingers, and has even refused propositions by the Inquisitors to investigate the Hearth Lodge Club.

Lastly, more religious news. The Wings of Esaudh have been christened by the Saldos, Esaudh giving his express permission to the family to give the boarhound riders his name. Investigations by the Fountain Guard have also revealed Freland spies among the population, though all appear to have fled back home. Freland has rejected such accusations, and has sent a diplomat to Taelia saying that "Truth is settled in blood, or otherwise, it is left to hearsay." Needless to say, some think the attempt on the chieftain's wellbeing was done by the northerners, and anti-Freland sentiment is sharply on the rise.

Pao Flynn enters with the merchant next to him "I have found some incriminating evidence about Freland and our first expedition to their lands. The leaders and priests or masterminds of Freland are nothing but creature called vampires that have an ability of telepathy and use something called a "White Light", a white orb that puts their victims under their complete control. These vampires used their ability on us and stole everything we had, that's why we don't have any relocation of anything during our time there. Tell them. As Pao pushes the merchant to the front of the group
>>
The merchant's tale is quite an interesting one indeed. The bat-priests of the north (or vampires, as they are called by Frelanders with no concern for their own lives) use strange devices called White Lights to brainwash (or just break) people into doing their bidding. While it is unclear whether or not the White Lights are magical themselves, or merely enhance magic, the research this time around has uncovered a Lesser Mental Strength Ritual, allowing those who undergo it to perform under some pressure, though not a lot. The more important ritual discovered was one involving much smaller groups, called the Lesser Mental Healing Ritual, which provides some healing, though not to the extent that the fountain does. In fact, the only reason you were able to talk to this merchant was the fact he was restrained by the Flynns and put in the fountain; otherwise, he would have killed himself, as all others brainwashed are apparently trained to do when outnumbered and caught. It seems that there is one rule worth teaching your soldiers then: do not get captured, and most certainly do not look at the priests' eyes.

Upon hearing the tale of the merchant, many Taelians only feel a further hardening of their heart against Freland. How could a nation do such a thing to their own people? Some wonder whether liberation is the only answer left to save your northern neighbor, freedom to be bought by blood.

With the Assembly quickly passing the vote at the end of the winter season, all newcomers from Freland must undergo the ritual, as per Assemblyman Saldo's proposal. However, by spring, you receive word of a large army moving on Taelia... from Natoya? Boats sailing along the coast between your two nations have reported that the swampdwellers are accepting no traders, and that an army is on the outskirts of Maneater Mountain! In just under two weeks, they will have reached Taelia proper. While no accurate numbers can be reported from the sea, some are saying that the army is at least the size of the one fielded in the last war, perhaps even larger.

Chief Idalach looks to his Assembly for advice on this one, especially his closer advisors. What will you do?

right.

clan jagat will need more time for organize and we would prefer to not send all of our men to join the main army in the capital. Freland could see this as an oppurtunity for attack us.
>>
With the army being mustered, a retreat from the countryside is ordered. Some choose not to follow, not wishing to leave their home and hearth for as long as the war may last, but others think it wise, bringing all but their buildings themselves to the city. While scouts maneuver to track the army, two things happen: Maneater Mountain falls under attack, and so does Archstone, to the north...

Maneater Mountain DC 60, -10 natural fortifications, -10 caverns, +30 numbers.

Archstone DC 55, -10 defenses, -10 training, +5 ogres, +10 priests, +10 numbers.

A number of brave Natoyans climb Maneater Mountain, attempting to assault the mine there, but are repelled by the Nimueas. Taking advantage of the tunnel system built by the Maneater, the hunters and explorers of that Clan take some losses, but deter the army in transit from moving on the place again. Carrying word of their victory, a boat is sent out from the river that starts in the mountain to Taelia, to tell them of their most significant discovery: the Natoyans were accompanied by Frelanders carrying banners of the swampdwellers' making!

(Forgot a -10 in Archstone, which was for preparation.)

Archstone takes heavy casualties as an assault is launched on the up-and-coming town. The ogre coalition that formed against the Torchbearers joined forces with the Frelanders in the attack, burning part of the town's wooden walls, and killing a number of civilians. The garrison, while slow to react, are quick to patch the holes in the fortifications, but the damage is done. While some boarhound riders head south to warn the nation, they are unaware that Taelia is ill-prepared to defend both itself and its northern settlement.

Meanwhile, roughly 2,000 men have gathered in Taelia, with a tenth of that number being boar-riders.

What is your plan of action?

The Nimuean's will continue their defences, upon receiving word of their comrades plight the Fountain Guard have dispatched a rider to seek our lord Esuadh's aid and warn him of the two enemies joining forces! We will fight to the end with you at our back.
Those whom are unable to fight will be evacuated and those willing to stay will hold the line and bleed their force, rock slides, traps in the tunnels, collapse tunnels and mines upon enemies as they flood in and so on! Atop the Mountain though the oldest and those unable to fight whom have not left shall begin a ritual calling upon our lord for help while the Aid is called upon...give us the strength to hold this lofty peak!

Those in the capital suggest moving a relief force west so it can circle around and flank an attack from the north when they come for us
