You find yourself in the medbay of the ship. For now, it appears Tombs is taking a nap in the corner, with Graves checking on Tierney’s hands. “You know, Tierney, grabbing a Lizard’s mouth and prying it open like a nut isn’t exactly something most people do, did you know that?”

Tierney stares at Graves, a very uncharacteristic look of complete exhaustion and unamusement on her face. “No, Graves. I did not know that. I did it because I didn’t want to risk accidentally shooting the boss, that’s all.” Graves nods, understanding as she rubs some medigel on Tierney’s bleeding hands. Wait, she’s bleeding? How did that happen? Did she cut herself on that Lizard’s teeth somehow? You step further inside, and get their attention. Tierney looks at you, and her eyes immediately light up again. “Oh, hey!” She smiles brightly.

“Hi,” you say, stepping inside. Graves looks at you, quirking her brow. “How you doing?”

“Oh, well,” she says. “My hands just got a little cut up from doing that King Kong shit. You know how it is.” She shrugs, clearly trying to play off what she did. It’s not getting by you though. Something’s off about Tierney. Graves looks at you, then shrugs herself as she starts to wrap Tierney’s hands up in gauze. “It’s nothing too bad, right?”

“Well.” Graves holds Tierney’s hands up. “You won’t be giving any good handjobs any time soon, I can tell you that.” Blood immediately flows into Tierney’s cheeks. She looks away from the both of you. “Oh, no shame. I’m sure Daddy here prefers to have his pole smoked by a nice pair of lips anyway, am I right?” You shake your head. No. You’re not playing this game, no sir. “Come on, give me something here, Daddy.”

“I’ll slap you, maybe that’s what you’re into,” you say.

“See, you joke, but getting slapped on the ass is actually not as bad as you might think,” she says. “Anyway. Tierney’s fine. Just some minor cuts. She’ll heal within the day.” She points to her as well, a stern expression on her face. “Next time, just use a knife or something, babe. Okay?” Tierney nods, a little indignant. “No heroics, seriously. Last thing we need is someone dying because they were trying to…” She looks at you. “Impress someone. Get what I mean?” She looks at Tierney again, a more motherly look on her face.

“Y-… Yeah.” Tierney nods, rubbing her hands idly.

“Don’t rub your hands.” Graves quickly separate’s Tierney’s hands. “Let them rest.” She looks at you. “You gonna hang out in here, Daddy? I could use a little help feeding Joffrey.”

Welcome back to No One Gets Left Behind after a weekend break. To recap: You just successfully ambushed a Lizard supply convoy. You took some weapons off of them, Nielson suggested there may be some caves linking into the ship you're now currently hiding in, and Tierney just King Kong'd a Steno. Oh, and the Wife nearly put down the Runt kid for being a Runt, but you gave the Runt over to Stoakes. You know, typical Space Marine stuff.

You can find the archive here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?searchall=No+One+Gets+Left+Behind

As per usual, I'm leaving this vote up overnight. And we shall return once I get home from work around 6PM EST or so.

> Help Graves feed Joffrey. Least you could do.

You slice a few pieces out of one of those yellow fruits up for Joffrey while Graves makes him drink a cup of water. “Come on, Joffrey.” Joffrey passively drinks it, sitting on his bed. Once the water’s all gone, Graves places the cup aside and holds her hand out for the plate. You hand the plate of yellow slices and bits of Dimorphodon meat over to her along with a fork. And with that, she takes it and jabs the fork into a piece of fruit. “Open the tunnel, here comes the train!” She starts moving the fork through the air. “N’eeeeeer…”

“That’s a plane, not a train,” you say. Graves looks at you, as if you’re ruining her fun. “Just saying.”

Joffrey cocks his head. “I’m not a child, Graves.”

“Then eat, come on. We’re helping you,” she says. “Open up.” Joffrey opens his mouth, then Graves gently pushes the meal in and shuts his mouth. He chews lightly, slowly. “Come on, swallow.” Graves puts her hand under his chin and lifts slightly. He swallows the fruit. “You know, Joffrey. When we get back, you’re going to miss having a cute girl like myself feed you like this. Gonna need to service yourself.”

“Is that incentive for me to stay like this then?” he says. Graves smirks, placing another piece of fruit in his mouth. He chews again, quietly. “Have we made any progress to getting home?”

“Not yet,” says Graves. “But, we’re getting some ideas in. Nielson wants to see about doing something with the ship. Uh… and there’s always the chance the Dominion comes back on their own. You know how it is. If something goes wrong, it has to go through all the people and they have to cover their own asses. It takes ages for anything to get down in the Dominion. Aside from taking planets off of aliens of course.” Joffrey nods, dimly gazing forward at nothing in particular. “Has uh…” Graves looks at Tombs. He’s still napping in the corner. “Has Tombs given you any trouble?”

“I can hear him skulking around occasionally,” Joffrey says quietly. “But nothing in particular.”

“Right, good.” Graves’ smirk drops a little. She continues to feed him bit by bit.

“Do I need to be here?” you ask.

“Aw, no, no,” says Graves. “I just like having company. Besides, you’re such a handsome man, Daddy.” Tierney turns around from where she sits, staring at you two. Graves doesn’t appear to notice though. “And I’m sure Joffrey appreciates your company too, considering you saved him.”
>>
>>3447657

“I do,” Joffrey mutters. “It’s nice to know you’re here.” You nod. Of course. “I’m just hoping that we make it back home now.” You’ll get there soon enough. At least, you hope you will. Tierney stands up from her table, then walks out of the medbay, still staring at the two of you. You glance over, but don’t manage to catch her eye before she manages to leave. You wonder what’s going on with her all of a sudden.

Graves sighs, then she places the empty plate aside. She looks at you. “Um. Daddy, can we like… do you have a minute to talk in private?”

“This isn’t some attempt to get me to have sex is it?” you ask.

“Noooo…” Graves starts chuckling, apparently finding that somehow funny. “No, no. I just-…” She shrugs. “I wanna vent a little bit but not here where people can hear me. But it can turn into sex if you want.”

> “Sure.”

“Sure. I got some time. Lay it on me.” Grave snods.

“You going to be fine, Joffrey?” Joffrey nods, folding his arms. “This’ll just take a minute, that’s all.” Graves stands up then beckons you out of the medbay. You look at Tombs. Still napping. Genuinely napping. It should be fine to leave him alone with Joffrey for a few minutes. Graves you leads out of the medbay then back into the armory down the hall. She shuts the door behind you, then turns to you. “Okay.”

“Okay.” You sit down on the table, looking at her. “Go ahead.” Graves rubs her fingers together, glancing at the floor.

“Well, so.” She looks at you, then says, “We’ve been down here a while.” You nod. You won’t add anything until you feel she’s looking for a response. “Feels like what, a few weeks or so? And already I feel like um… I feel like things are finally getting better. Despite Harrell and Cope being killed I guess and Joffrey and what happened to Horner and Bakker.” She walks closer to you, putting her hands on her hips. “But. Given the circumstances, the Navy leaving us here to die of all things, the Lizards encroaching on us, and everything else…” She plops down next to you. “It’s stressful. Very stressful. That party we had with the drinks helped a little but all the weight is coming back to me I guess.”

“So I figured.” You nod, putting your hands in your lap. You look at Graves again. You’ve never quite seen Graves in a mood like this. She’s normally so crass, a little abrasive, and somewhat more open. And now there was just… lifelessness in her eyes. It’s as if something was sucking the soul out of her. “Taking care of Joffrey isn’t too stressful is it?”

“It’s a constant reminder of what could happen to any of us if we get taken alive.” Understandable. “And not to mention having to juggle Tombs and his particular quirks. And what’s going on with Tierney too. And not to mention with half the guys here trying to hit on me and everything like it’s the last goddamn day of their lives.” That gets your blood boiling a little and you’re not sure why. “And knowing as well if they die or get hurt, it’s partly my responsibility. And not to mention too we have to juggle our supplies and… it gets really stressful after a while, yeah. I’m starting to understand how you feel.”
>>
>>3448049
“Glad you do,” you say. “We can relate then.” You’re lacking in people these days that can actually understand the stuff you’re going through right now these days. Talking with Graves is actually quite comfortable. You’ve vented to her, now she’s venting to you. “I mean, I’m glad you’re talking to me about this kind of stuff, Graves. It’s quite the thing.”

“It is and…” She stops. She sniffs a bit, before taking a deep breath. You look at her again. “I know we just go back from that really good raid and everything. I know you’ve got a plan to get us out of here too. And you’re working on driving the Lizards back and we’re getting the Deinos working with us too. But it’s such a long road ahead I feel and um… I feel terrible saying this. I really do.” Then she looks to you with incredibly piercing sad eyes. “I’m afraid.”

“We all are,” you say. “Even me sometimes. It’s be expected when we’re surrounded on all sides.” You sigh. Though this is just another reminder of the weight of the situation, you’re at least not alone in having to carry it. Graves nods, looking down at the floor. She places a hand on your thigh, pursing her lips a bit. “So uh… don’t beat yourself up over being scared. I’m sure everyone else is, we just try not to let it control us.”

“I know.” She gently leans against you. “Thanks, Daddy.”

“Um.” You turn to her. You see she’s got her eyes shut as she leans on you, quiet as can be. “So uh. Is that all you wanted to say?”

“Kinda,” she says. “I’m just glad you’re letting me vent, that’s it. It’s hard finding people to talk to and I’d rather not have to talk to myself like a crazy person.”

“Why not Morrison? You two seem close,” you suggest.

“I’d rather not tempt Morrison with little old vulnerable me,” she says back.

You roll your eyes. “That’s kind of egotistical of you, assuming you’re so attractive that you’ll just tempt him to cheat on his wife.” She smiles, giggling a little. Truth be told, if you had a wife and if Graves were… well, like this to you. Eventually you might actually crack. “You’re not as charming as you think you are, Graves.”

She smirks, then quickly kisses your cheek. She winks at you, pushing her breasts up against your arm. “Yes I am.”

“Okay, you are,” you say. She rolls her remaining eye then scoots back and stands up. “What. That it?”

“Yeah.” She smiles, rubbing her hands together. “Unless you feel like you want more.” You’re not quite confident enough to say so. Not while in the armory in the anyway. “Anyway. I should get back to the Medbay. It’s nice of you to let me vent this stuff out to you. I-…” Her smile drops a little as she rubs at her neck. “I really do enjoy your company you know. You’re a good guy, Daddy. I know that.”

Given what you know, you’re not sure you’d say that. But you won’t do anything to make her think otherwise. “Yeah, yeah. Thanks, Graves.”

“But hey!” She shrugs, opening the door. “If you’re ever in the mood to uh… let loose.” She taps her buttock, smirking. “You know where to find me. Okay?” With that, she steps on it. You stand up too and walk to the door. Graves steps past a curious looking Levy and Smitty before entering the medbay.

“Wonder what her deal is,” says Levy. Smitty shrugs, not really caring too much.

You step out too and shut the door. You sigh. Truth be told, if she really had made the offer, you’re not quite sure you’d refuse. She’s breaking you down, slowly but surely. And it still confuses you too. She has her pick of any guy here. And yet she wants you and only you it seems. You’ll never understand her at this rate.

For now though, you’re free to do whatever you think you need to do. What do you think needs to get done?

“Nielson.” You’ve grabbed your carbine and headed downstairs. In the big chamber you find a few crates of supplies along with Nielson, Delta, and Morrison. “How you doing?”

“Just fine,” he says. He smiles at you. “Come to join us on the expedition?”

“Yeah,” you say. “How far do you think we have to go?”

“Well, there’s a few things we should do. First thing’s first, that Titanoboa… sad to say, we might need to kill it to really see if there are caves leading into the ship. But another thing is…” He points down the way, opposite the map room where you’ve primarily explored. “That door there. We still don’t know what’s behind that bulkhead I don’t think. Could be anything. And I’d like to see what’s behind it.”

Morrison leans on one of the crates, staring at Delta as he sniffs at the ground. He holds a rope in his hands, which is tied around Delta’s neck. “Yeah, Nielson brought me down here to babysit Delta. Just in case. We wrapped this rope around his neck.”

“A little harsh,” you say. “Don’t you think?”

“I’d rather we not take the chance,” he says. Morrison folds his arms, looking at Nielson. “So which are we going to try and do first?”

“Well, since the Boss is here, how about you pick?” he asks you. “Behind that bulkhead could be anything. A comms room, another set of these capsules in this chamber, or even a tank for all we know. But the Titanoboa den could lead us to some caves or whatever. Up to you.”

The four of you stand in front of the bulkhead. It’s still as immobile and solid as the day you discovered it. All of you look at in awe, a little intimidated. “So, how does this work?” asks Morrison. Delta chirps, tapping the door. That doesn’t tell you anything. Delta sniffs at the bulkhead, then starts sniffing at the wall. Nielson reaches into his toolbelt taken from Joffrey and pulls out a pocket crowbar. Delta taps at one part of the wall. Nielson starts sweeping his hand across the panel, looking for a gap to fit the crowbar into. Delta chirps at you.

“So there’s wires to hotwire then?” you ask. Delta nods. “Okay, you’re going to try and hotwire something then?” Delta nods again, making joining motions with his hands. Nielson finds a gap, then jabs the crowbar in. He then pulls, snapping the panel out of the wall. Several mini-drones fly out.

“Ah!” Nielson falls back on his ass, spooked. Morrison too jumps back, aiming his rifle around. But the mini-drones simply fly around and away, not particularly caring about your presence. Delta looks in, seeing a huge set of wires of different muggy and dark colors. There has to be dozens of wires here, how does he know which to cut?

To that, Delta simply claws the wires apart. Nothing happens. Delta points to your powerpack on your belt. You take it and hand it to him. Delta takes it, curious. He then gently bites it, testing it. “Hey, hey! That’s pure plasma!” you say. Delta looks at you, staring at you unamusedly. “Don’t just bite it!” Delta shakes his head before taking some wires and starting to fiddle them together.

Nielson comes up to you. “We uh… gonna trust his method?”

I can't help but wonder, what does Delta want out of all of this? What's his endgame? It's always been strange how he's been so amicable and helpful despite technically being a prisoner of war.

We gotta take him aside one of these days, alone, ask him what he's after.
>>
>>3449918
Maybe he just likes solving tech problems not matter who's giving them. Or given how they're big on the strongest gets to lead maybe by saving him we've established our dominance like what happened with the Deinos.
>>
> “We have to.”

“We have to,” you say. “After all, Delta seems to know this ship and what’s inside of it. Though, I wonder what his actual endgame is out of all this.” Nielson nods too, curious. Delta looks at you, then hisses as he sparks some wires against the powerpack. A loud pop erupts from the bulkhead. And you see the bulkhead slowly start to rise up. There! Delta’s got it. Delta places the powerpack wired to the wall against the panel and steps up to all of you. “Good boy.” Delta bares his teeth, looking inside.

Past the bulkhead was a series of console walls, almost labyrinthine in structure. They were arranged in rows all along the chamber, which thankfully didn’t stretch on for too long. You, Nielson, Morrison, and Delta step inside, looking around. The place isn’t lit up except by your flashlights and the lights from the chamber. Could this be a comms room? Nielson walks up to one of the consoles. It’s a smooth black box just like the rest, but there are faint grey squares on their surface. Nielson touches one, and the grey box simply vanishes from his touch. Seems they work. “Huh.” Nielson looks at you, then at Delta. Delta taps it with his own claw, then screeches quietly at it. “He seems familiar with it.”

Delta nods, makes jabbing motions with his claw at the console. He then shakes his head. “No power, huh?” you ask. Delta nods, then he taps the console again. The grey box he touches simply disappears when he tries to touch it. Delta points down at the floor and at the walls. “Okay, he wants us to check if there’s more wires probably. Maybe there’s something he can hot wire.”

“Alright,” says Nielson. “I’ll go with him.” Delta starts walking ahead with Nielson taking his leash. Morrison comes next to you, looking around nervously.

“I don’t quite like the looks of this place,” says Morrison.

“Neither do I,” you say. “But the sooner we figure out what this room is for, the better.” He nods, agreeing. You look around. There’s an open port in the wall, for mini-drones. Seems they’ve been through here.

Though… You blink and look back. For a second, you thought you saw a flash of black behind you. Huh.

Right.

“Keep trying the consoles,” you call. “I’m gonna take a look at something I saw back here.” Nielson nods to you. You start walking back out of the bulkhead and look around. Nothing. You were sure something caught your eye back here. Were you just seeing things? You hear a quiet skittering sound above you. You look up, nothing there either. The hairs on your neck stand up as you watch and look around.

Something taps you. “Hey.” You jump, looking back to see Morrison. Oh, frak’s sake. “Want me to get more people down here?”

“Could you?” you ask. Morrison nods. He hurries off to the stairs. You sigh, trying to calm your heart. Something is definitely down here with you, and it’s not one of those drones. You hear the skittering noise again above you. Like sizzling bacon or something. Is something watching you? Could be.

It’s starting to unnerve you quite badly.

“Hey, Boss!” You look back and see Nielson call to you. “One of these consoles still works!” Okay, that’s good. “Can’t really figure out how to actually use it though.”

“You stay there, Nielson. I’m gonna check something out,” you say.

“Alright!” he calls back. You start stepping back into long chamber, with a flashlight. The lights are still on, but you can’t be too sure. Maybe the power goes out and something ambushes you before your eyes get used to the darkness. Who knows? As you walk, you still hear the skittering sound of something up above you. Is it in the ceiling? It then suddenly flits away, down back towards the map room. You start walking towards it, making sure to turn around and look up every once in a while. One thing about ambushes is that sometimes people just fail to look up.

You stop however once you get to the maproom door. The skittering stops. You look behind you again. Nothing there. There’s definitely something inside the walls. It’s not the drones. Drones are too big, they’d just go bump and whack against the walls. This is like sand in an hour glass, sizzling bacon, metal beads in a metal cup. What in the hell could it be?

You see a door open at the left end of the maproom, by itself. A few mini-drones fly out, zapping the air with their beams before floating off idly.

“Hey.” You almost jump again. Rutledge nudges you, smirking. “Morrison said you might need some help down here, so I brought Levy and Smitty since they were idle. You find something?”

“Nielson said he found some consoles, might be worth trying,” you say. Morrison, Levy, and Smitty wait for you behind you. “Morrison, could you go back to Nielson?” He nods, heading back. “I think something’s watching us too. Might be that thing, the skeleton thing or whatever it was.” Rutledge nods slowly. “I don’t know.”

Levy folds his arms, tilting his head. “Uh. I mean, I’d rather not deal with skeletons. Lizards is one thing but haunted house is another.”

“He’s around here somewhere, let’s just go find him. Come on.” You and Rutledge get moving. Smitty follows behind.

Levy hesitates for a minute or two. “Well, I ain’t picking up after you guys when you get eaten or something!”

You peek in through the halls. They’re lit up this time. You, Rutledge, Levy, and Smitty move as one big group. Smitty covers your rear while Levy watches to the side, you and Rutledge to the front. “You know, I’ve heard stories of ancient spirits haunting starships before,” says Rutledge. Levy looks at him, face going white from fear. “How sometimes crews would go missing in the dark void of space.”

“Yeah, that’s enough, Rut, please,” Levy says quickly.

“Just saying,” says Rutledge. “Could actually be a ghost.”

“No such thing as ghosts,” you say. As you walk through the hall, you notice something funky about the floor. There are some black streaks that seem to… move when you come near them. You stop, and take a knee by one of the streaks. You poke at it with your gloved finger. The streak parts away and retreats from you. What the hell? Rutledge kneels down next to you too. “What do you think this is?”

“Nanomachines?” he says. “Even we don’t have the tech to mass produce those.”

“Can’t be,” you say. “No civ has the tech to produce nanomachines in the first place.” The black streak quickly parts away from you both, hurrying to the edge of the wall.

“Whoa!” Levy shouts, immediately firing his rifle. You all stand up and look back. Nothing except a scorch mark where he just shot something. “Something just tried to rise up out of the frakking floor!” You all go back to back, looking around. The black streaks continue moving around on the floor, apparently indifferent now to your presence. You start sweating, looking around.

Smitty says, “Okay, Boss. What’s the plan?”

Right. “Stay put. And see what they do.” Levy looks at you, terror in his eyes. “Don’t worry, we’ll be right here. You just stay put, Levy.” He nods, pressing his back closer to you than anyone else. You all turn in place, keeping an eye on things from all directions, left right, up and down. You hear more of that metallic sizzling, skulking, and skittering around you. Sweat runs down your hands and cheeks from anticipation. One second it’s on your left in the walls. Then on your right. Then above you.

Then you see it. Forming up down the hall across from where Levy shot at. Rutledge sees it too. His eyes go wide. It slowly climbs up from a crack in the floor before forming some amorphous blob of black goo. And yet it wasn’t goo at all, it was something more solid, metallic in nature, like a bunch of metal shavings cascading together. The blob starts coming up to the size of a man, before forming a red light in its center, looking straight at you four.

“What the hell is that thing!?” screams Levy.

The blob starts advancing on you four, speedily, quickly. Okay, good time to panic! Levy and Rutledge start shooting at it. The plasma shots fly straight through, making holes before the blob stops collapses onto the floor into puddle. It looks like it’s visibly trying to reconstruct itself.

“Okay, nuts to this!” Levy screams. He starts running. Smitty too.

You and Rutledge look at each other, then follow after each other. Could this damn ship get any weirder!?

You all try to hurry to the door where you came in from. Levy and Smitty got a head start on you and Rutledge. So maybe they made it out already.

Nope, they come running back, pursued by another gooey black blob. “It’s no good, they blocked the door!” he says Levy. You look around the corner and see another blob dripping down out of the now closing door. Oh come on! Instead of going towards that first blob you all shot at, you go the opposite way, hopefully Nielson and Delta can hear the chaos going on! Maybe he’ll at least run upstairs and get more help! The four of you look back and see the gooey streams from the entrance hallway join up with the bigger blob coming to pursue the four of you. “What in the hell is that thing!?”

“If I knew, I’d tell you!” you say back.

You reach a T junction, with halls going left or right. “Which way do we go!?” says Rutledge. The lights suddenly shut out to the left. “Not that way!” True enough. All of you elect to head the opposite way, at least you’ll still be in the lights that way. You hurry down the hall there, passing doors and running over the central grate in the floor. Then you come to another T Junction. Was any of this stuff here before when you first explored down here!? “Great, what the hell do we do now!?”

“I say we double back and try for the exit again,” says Levy. “Maybe we might get around it.”

“Nah, did you see what it was doing to the door!?” says Smitty. “Doesn’t this hall go around and come back around? Maybe we can get to the other end of the map room that way!”

Rutledge says, “I’m with them honestly. Though, we don’t even know if that blob wants to eat us or wants to say hello. Maybe it wants to turn into a cute girl we can all pass around!” He smiles, clearly trying to make himself feel better. “Eh? Eh!?” The three of you stare at him. “Come on, I’m trying to lighten the damn mood! If I’m gonna die, I’ll die laughing, damn it!”

“The halls will eventually loop back to the other side of the map room. We just have to keep running.”

“Fine by me!” Levy immediately sprints to the right. You, Smitty, and Rutledge follow after him. Your boots stamp and echo through the halls as you make another right, passing another junction which probably would lead down into the Titanoboa room somewhere. You look back behind you and see the black blob still seeping around the corner to pursue, slow but definitely steady! Levy slides to a stop and comes around to the right. “Whoa-“

He’s suddenly splattered by a splash of black goop to the face. His screams are muffled as he tries to rip it off of his face. You can see it all crawling around on his head and into his helmet, faint little grains moving all around him. “Holy shit!” yells Smitty. Levy falls flat on his ass while Smitty jumps over and looks to the side. “The way’s clear!” Levy rolls around on the ground, still trying to get it off of his face.

“We can’t just leave him!” Rutledge grabs Levy, trying to help him get the black blob off his face. “Hang on, Levy, just stay still!” Levy struggles and muffledly shrieks as Rutledge tries to rip it off of him. “Christ, it’s like a beanbag!” You look back and still see the bigger blob advancing, slowly but surely.

You decide to go and help Rutledge get this weird blob off of Levy. He could suffocate after all, not to mention that no one gets left behind. You look at Smitty and… motherfrakking shit, he actually ran off without you! That asshole! You grab onto the blob, and immediately feel like you’re wrestling your hands into sand! What is this!? You try to get some kind of grip and feel like you’re holding wet sand in your hands. “Come on, pull!” says Rutledge. He struggles to get some kind of leverage as Levy struggles and kicks. You grab –something-. Then pull!

You rip the blob off of his face, at least most of it. The rest dissipates off of his head and falls through the grate. He takes a deep breath, screaming. “Ah God! Oh my God!” He grabs onto Rutledge. The blob sits in your hands for a few seconds, then suddenly tries to crawl up your arm! Shit! You stand up and slap at it with your free hand. It flattens out, like jelly against a spoon, before suddenly dropping off your arm and onto your feet. You dust your arms down, feeling tiny little grains and bits. Levy breathes heavily. “Holy Christ, oh my God!”

“Look!” says Rutledge points down the hall again. The blob is now closing in towards you, speeding up. Levy immediately tries to make a run for it, but gets caught by Rutledge. Rutledge starts pulling him back, carefully leading him on without him getting ahead of anyone so we don’t get a repeat of what happened to him. You follow behind, slinging your Carbine. It slams into the wall, probably by mistake before recovering and trying to come after you again, like a wave in water.

“What in the frak is that thing!?” Levy shouts. You come back around the hall and find the door leading into the map room! There!

“Here!” Smitty waves you all in. Rutledge and Levy come in, then you too. You look back and see the blob come at the door, then suddenly halt right at the door frame. You, Smitty, and Rutledge point your rifles at it. It immediately sinks back into the grate, disappearing with nary a sound to it.

The four of you look around, watching, waiting.

Rutledge looks at you. “I think we gotta go back upstairs. Right now.”

“Please,” says Levy.

> “Yeah, I think you’re right. Let’s grab Nielson and go.”

“Not yet.” Everyone looks at you, confused as to why you seem so stupidly brave all of a sudden. “Let’s just go back to Nielson and see what he’s up to. Maybe he’s made some progress or something.” They all look at you, clearly nervous. “Look, if he hasn’t. We’ll leave, okay? Come on.” You start marching back down the map room. Levy follows, hurrying with you. Rutledge glances at the door, then quickly shoves Smitty away and gets the two of them moving.

You find Nielson crouched by one of the consoles, pressing his ear against it. Morrison watches over them while Delta bites on one of the consoles curiously. He looks at you and says, “Good news. This console works.” Nielson stands up, pointing to it. “From what Delta tells me, it’s on low power mode, extreme low power. As in, this ship still has power but it’s constantly having to ration it out just to keep more vital systems running aboard the ship. Apparently there’s something going on that-“

“We know,” Levy says, firmly, twitching a little as he scratches at his cheek. “Something pounced on us back there. Maybe it got reactivated by us coming down here?”

“Maybe,” you say. Nielson looks curious. “Look. Can we send out a distress signal with that?”

Nielson smiles. “Well, yes and no. Yes in that in theory it’s possible, no in that it’s not possible right now.”

“Why not?” asks Smitty. Rutledge folds his arms, giving a hard stare at Nielson as he explains.

Nielson says, “It’s simple, we don’t have anything that can transmit. We don’t have any antennaes or dishes or-“

“How long would it take to improvise one?” you ask.

“See, that’s another thing,” he says. “I can improvise one, yes. But another thing we lack is power too.” Of course. “Now, power is simple. Delta knows what to do, we can reroute some of the power working in here to get it working for us on this console. But there is another thing too.” He points to the console itself. “I got no frakking idea how to use this thing. It’s coded in some language that I don’t understand. I don’t think Delta understands it either. And…” He sighs. “Another thing.”

“What’s that,” you say with increasing frustration.

Nielson says, “There’s no guarantee that even if we send out a signal, that the fleet will come back for us.”

“Look. Let’s just pack it in for the day and head back upstairs. We’ll get a plan going, we gotta get more people down here too. And we gotta focus on getting the power back so we can get these things working. We do these things one at a time, alright?” The nervous expressions on their faces don’t give you much confidence, either in themselves or yourself. “Look. They’ll come back when we call. We just have to try. We’re not gonna get anywhere by not. So let’s go.” Levy and Rutledge head out first, followed by Smitty. Then Morrison. Nielson and Delta walk with you back to the stairs.

“This is going to be one hell of a Hail Mary,” he says.

“It is,” you say. “But if it works, there’s a medal in it for you, I’m sure.”

“You think?” He grins a little at the idea.

“Yeah. First you get a threesome with two hot pilots then you get yourself a medal to wear on your chest….” Nielson glances away, deep blush rising on his face. “Don’t give me that. Look, we got a good thing going here. So don’t be too nervous. We’ll throw ourselves at the problem until it goes away.”

“And if it doesn’t?” he asks.

“We’ll make new problems to counter the old one, as it usually goes,” you say back.

“Hehe. Right.” The three of you start going up the stairs. “Well uh… I’m gonna go take a few winks in the barracks.” You nod. Nielson heads off down the hall. You look around and see Tombs talking with Stoakes outside the medbay.

“Look, he’s like a little baby!” Stoakes holds up the Runt for Tombs to see. Tombs doesn’t look very happy at seeing it though. “What should we call him? We can name him after you, except with a Junior appended to him. Junior could be good actually. He’s got your eyes, hehe! I’m just joking!” Tombs still glares at the Runt, before shrugging silently. “Aw, you are jealous?” Stoakes pokes at Tombs’ chest, looking up at him. “It’s okay, I still have time for you, babe.”

“I’d rather not have to take care of that thing,” he says.

“He’s not a thing!” says Stoakes, chastising him.

You open the door to the outside and see Connell and Godwin standing guard outside. “… so then I took the rod to his gut and smashed up his ribs,” says Godwin. “He was coughing up blood for two days.” Connell nods, listening attentively, a smirk on his face. “You couldn’t tell him apart from a wet sponge after what we did to him.”

“Good, good,” says Connell. “Bastard deserved it.” He looks at you. “Hey, boss. Come to visit us?”

“Just wanted to see how the Wife was doing,” you say. The Wife chews on her stable door. You can also see the three remaining kids bouncing and running around her feet, chirping and squealing happily. Seems the absence of the Runt hasn’t phased them any. You suppose being young they haven’t quite processed it yet. Or perhaps this is their way of processing it. You step up to the stable door, hand on your belt as you look at them. The three kids stop their jumping around and look at you.

They immediately come up and line up, looking at you and waiting to see what you’ll do. Godwin comes over, slapping your shoulder. “So how’s it feel being a Daddy?”

“Please,” you say. He rolls his eyes, a wide smirk on his face. You look over and see Connell resting his head back against the ship. And like that, he’s out like a light. Damn fatso sleeps easier than a tired kid. Godwin however leans against the stable, looking at you. “You got something to say, Godwin?”

“Ah, just wanted to talk to my favorite guy you know,” he says. “See how you were getting along.” The Wife steps up and snarls at Godwin. Godwin steps back. “Whoa, hey hey.” The Wife angrily snorts at Godwin, making him flinch from the hot air being blown at him. “She doesn’t like me, huh?” Good judge of character at least.

“She’ll learn.” You gently bat the Wife’s muzzle, making her flinch back. She steps away from you. The kids meanwhile continue to bark and leap up, trying to get your attention. “Us working together is the only thing stopping the Lizards from rolling over us anyway so… she has to at least.”

“Yeah, yeah,” says Godwin. He leans on the stable door regardless. “Gotta say, Deino wife, Graves, Burke, Tierney, you got a lot going for you feminine-wise.” Oh, this again. “It’s actually quite interesting.”

“What can I say, chicks dig a guy who works,” you say back. Not sure what else to say. You’re actually quite baffled honestly. You never got this kind of attention back home. Maybe dire circumstances are just forcing them to get desperate. Who knows. Though, your Mom in the few times she was ever lucid always said you were handsome at least. “Can we not get back on this topic anyway? I think I let you know what my opinion was on this a while ago.”

“I know, I know,” he says. “It does sound creepy of me to talk about it. But you know, a guy’s got needs. You never…?” You sigh, glaring at him. “Come on.”

“Godwin, we have better things to do than that right now.” The Wife still continues to glare at Godwin while gently petting her kids on their heads. The kids shift their attention towards her now. “Cut me some slack.”

And to that, Godwin is quiet. He shoves his hands in his pockets. “You know, given how I helped around here, I just figured maybe they owe me something.” You look at him again. Is he seriously going on about this? “Especially with how I helped you too as well, boss. I consider myself a simple man with simple desires. Sex is a very simple want, you know? I’m sure you thought of it too.”

Way more than he thinks honestly.

“Look, can I just ask a favor?” he says. “How about you try and throw some of that stuff my way? Put in a good word for me. I pull my weight around here, don’t I? I went with you on that raid. And of course-“ You stare at him, shaking your head. “Come on.”

“Tell you what, Godwin, you build up some good boy points, we’ll see what happens.”

Godwin frowns angrily, not liking that answer. “You know I don’t like being patronized.”

“And I don’t like being asked for something you could get yourself If you had two seconds worth of actual thought in your head,” you say. “You can ask me all you want, but at the end of the day, you want sex you earn it like everyone else here does. That’s how nature works, natural selection you know? Only the strong survive.”

“Yeah, or the lucky,” Godwin mutters. He snorts, waving you off. “Forget about it.” He storms off, moving back to his post with a slumbering Connell. You gotta admit, part of you is really glad that Godwin at least seems to be able to control himself. And if he ever tried to blackmail you in exchange for some kind of reward well… suffice to say, killing him would definitely be on the table. That guy just isn’t right.

The Wife continues glaring at Godwin, baring her teeth quietly as she watches him. You whistle, getting her attention. The kids too try to imitate your whistling, but only blow snot and spittle all over themselves trying to do so.

You decide a little quality time with the family wouldn’t hurt. You open the stable door and come close. The kids all come up to you, chirping and smiling with gummy mouths that barely have anything resembling teeth. You suppose in the coming weeks they’ll start teething. Oh God, teething, that’s not something you’re looking forward to now. It’s bad enough with dogs. Imagine these little buggers.

Despite that however, in your mind you start naming them off. Little Red, Orange, and Darko. Darko comes up to your feet and tries to bite at them. Useless against your combat boots. You kneel down and hold out your hands. They flinch back, confused by the sight of them. Orange sniffs at your fingers, probably confused as to why you have them in gloves and why you don’t have claws. Then Orange bites down on your thumb. It actually doesn’t hurt thankfully since they don’t have teeth.

Then Little Red jumps up onto your arm! They do have their toe claws though! He sinks his toe claw through your sleeve into your arm. It’s like a thorn! You freeze, tensing up, trying not to look like it’s hurting you. Darko too climbs up on top of you, screeching loudly as he climbs up your back and onto your shoulder. Orange bounces around you, nipping and biting at your legs and hands.

Active little bunch, aren’t they?

The Wife snarls, a toothy grin on her face as she watches her kid swarm all over you. You flop onto your stomach, feeling one of them nuzzle into your hip and tickle at you. You start laughing, trying to bat him away. But you see Dark lick and bite at your neck as well. Damn it, they’re tickling you! You pick up Darko and lift him up. Darko screeches, holding his arms and legs out as he wags his tail. You toss him up in the air then catch him before pushing him aside. Darko whines, jumping up again and again by your head. He wants to do it again! Orange and Little Red start bouncing up and down too, trying to imitate Darko.

Okay, okay. Everyone gets a turn you suppose.

You pant, wiping sweat off of your forehead. Must’ve been a few hours playing around with these boogers. They nuzzle up against each other, quietly sleeping while the Wife wraps her tail around them, sitting beside them for protection. You sit down next to her, quickly taking a drink of water from your canteen. You have to admit, those kids were pretty fun. Almost makes you want kids of your own. Almost.

The Wife then rests her head into your lap.

Uh.

You try to push her away, but she starts growling loudly. Okay. You stop.

“Well, well.” You look up and see Tierney looking inside down at you, smirking a little. “Did I interrupt?”

“You’re free to join if you want,” you say.

“I would but…” Tierney considers it, then she shrugs and steps into the stable too. She sits down next to you. The Wife snarls, looking at her skeptically. Tierney holds her hand out, shaking a little in her presence before settling down next to you. The Wife keeps on eye open on your side, still looking at her as she settles down too.

“She’s a handful, I’d love it if I could say no but… she kinda scares me,” you say a little half-jokingly.

“I can see.” Tierney folds her arms, shivering a little. “Sorry if I scared you back there with my antics. I just…”

“No, it’s fine,” you say. “You did good.”

“It was like I just saw red and then I couldn’t control myself,” she explains. She hugs her legs, looking at you. “You ever get that?”

“Sometimes,” you say truthfully. “I don’t know. What do you make of it?”

“I don’t know,” Tierney says, repeating you. “I just hope it doesn’t happen again, I just-… once I got control of myself and I saw what damaged I did not just to that Deino but to my hands too it was like I felt something snap.” She snaps her fingers, looking at you with some concern in her eyes. “And I feel like now, I don’t know. I don’t know, it’s just-… weird now.”

> “Embrace it. It was pretty brave of you to do that.”
> “Don’t worry too much about it.”
> “I’d get that looked at. Try not to let that happen again.”

Don't be afraid to talk to someone if you're having issues. It's healthier to vent sometimes.

>Bravery without cost to one's sanity is the goal here

“I’d get that looked at, Tierney. Try not to let it happen again. It was good to see you ripping and tearing, but not at the cost of your mental health.” Tierney nods slowly, rubbing at her cheek nervously. “I know you’re-…” No, don’t get that angle. “Look, I’m glad you talked to me about this. It’s unhealthy to keep it in.”

“Yeah.” Tierney nods. “Yeah, I guess. It’s just… I’m sorry things are the way that they are with me. But I feel-… I feel more confident now I guess. Like I can start going into combat now with you all. It’s like something’s clicking now!”

“That’s great!” you say, looking at her.

She smiles back. “Yeah. Um. I’m actually glad I caught you alone as well, I wanted to talk to you about something. I wasn’t sure if it was um, something we had to talk about.” You tilt your head, confused. Her smile drops a little. “Look, I know things between us are maybe a little on the tense side I guess. But I can’t help but notice that you and Graves seem a little… familiar?”

“Familiar?” you ask.

She nods. “Familiar.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I dunno.” She twiddles her fingers in her hands, confused. “Just… are you two like, together now or something?”

“Not as far as I’m aware,” you say. She tilts her head, now even more confused. “I mean, she makes jokes, I make jokes too. We’re not romantically connected, Tierney.” She nods, understanding now. “Were you jealous or something?”

“I’ve always been jealous of her actually, she’s quite brave and all and she’s so open about how much she wants you and I-“ She pauses, a slight blush rising on her face. “I’m not. Just, you know. I should go.” She stands up, suddenly desiring retreat.

> “It’s okay, we can talk about it.”
> “If it makes you feel any better, I’m not particularly attracted to her.”
> “Alright. See you later then.”

Not like there's anything to hide. Though it's hilarious how the image people have of our MCs love life is so totally different from the actual situation.

“It’s okay, we can talk about it.” She stands there, a little stunned and a little confused. The Wife continues to glare at her, as if wanting her to go away. Tierney sits down, looking at you again, more firmly. “Now look, we’ve been flirting yeah. But both of us have held off doing anything. We’re not having sex or anything. We haven’t even kissed.”

She nods. “Wow.”

“Wow?”

“It’s just… wow,” says Tierney. “No time?”

“Not really,” you say. “Well, a bit of that. Plus, Graves isn’t…” She is actually really attractive. Those bountiful breasts of hers, the way she walks, the way she shakes her ass to get your attention sometimes, and the way she teases you. Sometimes you wish she’d be even more aggressive, you’d have caved so many times before but it always seems like she holds back. “I know she’s joking most of the time.”

“Yeah. I just-… it’s confusing to me. Plus, what about Burke?”

“She’s still fine,” you say. Burke too is a lovely woman. She can keep up with you. She’s no nonsense, she knows the hunt, you’d love to… but given what she’s done recently.

“Boss, there’s a lot of women here who’d love to be with you,” she says. “I-…” She stops herself. “It’s actually kind of disconcerting.” It is, you’re glad she said that. Finally someone understands. Of course, it had to be Tierney of all people but still. “Still, I mean, I was just curious, that’s all.”

“And jealous too,” you say.

“Yeah, and jealous. I can’t really compete with her or Burke,” she says.

“You don’t have to. You’re a different person than them, Tierney. I think I’ve said this before,” you say. Tierney nods, smiling a little at that response. “Besides, you don’t have to be sexy or capable to attract me.” But it definitely helps. “I like you the way you are.” Tierney scoots up, smiling at you. “And I’m glad we had this chat. Thanks for confiding in me about this.”

“Yeah, I know you’re honest, you won’t tell no one else,” she says. “But-“ You hear something off in the distance. The Wife stands up as well, as do the Kids. They hear it too. You all stand up.

The sound of low but incredibly loud moaning: rockets. They explode off in the distance to the south, shaking the trees and making the wildlife screech and shriek in fear and alarm. Birds and tiny little lizards immediately scatter through the trees and around the ship, running away. Hell! “Get inside!” you say. “Get inside!” The Wife immediately grabs the kids and runs inside the ship. Connell and Godwin stand up too, hurrying in. Tierney rushes inside as well.

You look out and see rocket trails in the sky. They drop down all over the southern forests, exploding and bursting into flames in the air. Shit!

What are the Lizards doing now!?

Unfortunately, I have to end it here for the weekend. But don't fret, we'll be back soon the coming weekend for more, so see you then. Hope you all enjoyed.

Thanks for running.

Potential reasons:
- Guessing and hoping they're hitting something
- Trying to clear the treeline
- We've hit their guys in the north, so they might be shooting down south assuming that was where we came from, but they've missed their mark
- trying to psych us out
- trying to hit our allies (were they in the south?)
