It is nothing more than a land of constant war. Forossa as it was named. To the distant east, hundreds of years after the long era of unlaw that followed the fall of it's past Kingdom, Forossa was again brought to order by the Tsardom, and for many many years it did rule henceforth as the center of all power and culture in the whole world.

But it could not last, for the Age of Fire was coming to a close again, and the Age of Dark was inevitable. Now, the Tsardom is but a shell of it's former self, and few bastions of civilization remain.

A bloody infection from Jursa Island spreads, Demons migrate from the north to fuel a new Chaos using a dead God's corpse, and the Abyss grows in the south from a shard of primeval darkness, empowered by primordial entities.... And the once great, powerful God of War has abandoned his people and vanished completely....

But unlike those cycles that preceded the current, something stirs to the far east....

In his tower reaching to the sky, the ageless first sage of Forossa works tirelessly on a final resort of a plan to end the cycles forever. Having drawn on the force and leeched the life and power of untold countless others for millenniums, the power to control time itself is within the grasp of the sage...

...And with his presence echoing across the world, the undead, disturbed by temporal ruptures, branded by the accursed Darksign, rise to combat his threat... Rise to cut off the sources of his power....

And so it is decided.

In life, you were a great gentry and Knight of Astora named Hannes von Stroheim. For a long time, the Tsardom of Forossa dealt with the threats to it's land by sheer force and it's mighty armies, but when the spread of the Abyss and the Chaos Demons proved far too mighty an adversary, Forossa began to call on it's allies.

Many other great nations, feeling their own security threatened by what went on in Forossa, wanted to ensure it would not spread beyond the snowy alpine region. Catarina provided it's excellent generals and gunpowder reserves, Vinheim and Thorolund offered it's magical prowess and zealotry to bolster the morale, survivors of the ancient Eleum Loyce proved incredible in the battle against the Demons, and vigilantes from Mirrah helped to stop banditry from rising again.

You were sent along with many Knights of Astora to help defend the Tsar's capital of Tisengrad when the Demons made a great siege against it. You were fell in battle however at the hands of a Great Ice Demon, as Chaos had adapted to the climate of Forossa, and began to turn the cold against it's users with a new breed of Demons...

You awake in the small keep of the Cemetery, where you were buried, and quickly find your armaments upon exiting the coffin. There is a staircase leading both up and down.

Below you find some sort of... Cremation room littered with corpses that had been scorched. There is soot and ash, but the room is quite chilly and a fresh body in the middle appears to be frosting over.

You notice something giving a faint glow from the bodies' pouch and go to grab it. It is an Estus Flask with three uses and an Estus shard that could be used to improve the Flask.

As you go to turn back, the entrance to the cremation room is blocked off by fog, and you hear the jingling again followed by a giggle and a crunching of ice...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzWFWCH_lTE

Shambling in front of you, the same ice demon that had slain you before in the past stands tall and giggles as it swipes it's claws together. You notice a key dangling from it's shoulder.

It raised it's arm and prepared to swipe at you. What will you do?

But the spikes are spreading and it is generating icy wind in it's other hand, preparing another attack.

Will you continue attacking or wait to see it's move? Keep note of the growing spikes spreading across the floor which threaten you...

You back away as the Demon of Winter rises and throws a gust of icy wind in your direction. The attack clips you as you roll away, taking off a mediocre amount of health, but completely draining your measly magic bar.

The Demon falls flat on it's face. You are now able to finish the beast off, however, it lays in it's ice spikes, which induce frostbite.

Will you risk some frostbite build up to finish the fight or wait until it moves?

You restore your health by drinking one use of your flask before removing your gauntlets and brigandine. You proceed to leap at the Demon and bring your sword down on it, following up with another four slashes, which at last defeat the demon. The frostbite bar gives little build up and only reaches half way full before the spikes dissipate. You obtain a rusty key for defeating it.

The demon's giggling stops and it can only scream as it's body is bisected into two from your slashes, the lower part of it still standing, frozen in place. You wonder how it was that this squib of a demon managed to kill you in life. You think perhaps it was lucky, perhaps you were already worn for battle.... but you can't help but shake the feeling that the demon is not truly dead, and that it may again rise in the future.... Perhaps the giggling was a sign of infancy...

You carry yourself to the stairs again as your humanity is restored from slaying the demon. You have a hefty amount of souls and should immediately seek a bonfire. You ascend the stairs again and use the rusty key the demon dropped to unlock the door....

You find yourself inside the large room of a Study. The cobblestone room was decorated with all manner of fine Tsardom banners showing off the royal coat of arms. There were many book shelves filled with books and sets of rather extravagant wooden furniture sporting dark walnut finishes and trim.

In the middle of the room was a bonfire next to a bench, which you light without hesitation.

To the right, near a desk, you see a woman and a man dressed finely in the clothing of noble servants. They stare at you with intent even though they appeared down.

You see a rather large framed man hitting an anvil in the corner of the room to the left. He appeared joyous and was surrounded by a great deal of weapons and smith tools and materials.

You see that the Study, being very large, is divided into five corners. One corner was used as a space for the large smith who hammered away at his anvil. Rackets lined with weapon stood against the wall, a makeshift forge of cast iron and concrete burned hot with plenty of sparks in the air. The blacksmith cleaned his hammer with a rag and looked up to you as you approached.

"From the looks of the equipment y' carry I'd wager you're a Knight of Astora. Well met then. I am Andre of Astora, I am but a humble blacksmith, and I serve here at the behest of the butlers. If you require my skill and my anvil, you only need to ask."

Nodding, you present him your flask and shard. "Ahh, always good to keep a flask with a hefty amount of charges, it'll always get you out of a pinch." Andre remarks as he takes the flask and shard over to his forge. There is a clanking noise as he uses a wedge and his hammer before he hands the flask back over to you.

You can buy or sell weapons with Andre, reinforce or repair weapons or infuse them using gems you find. He can also allot your estus and reinforce it when you have shards.

Torch is probably a good investment, though. Cheap and will come in handy eventually.
>>
>>3453299
What's the Halberd stats? If it's like the one in dark souls 2, then it would be a good investment. If it's like the one in dark souls 3, then its glorified rubbish
>>
>>3453299
Yes absolutely. It only takes 3 levels to wield It properly and 1 to 2-hand It. Besides we should effectively have more than 5000 souls If we have a [Soul of the Demon of Winter] In our Inventory.
>>
>>3453306
>>3453333
You use the Soul of the Winter Demon to get 5,000 Souls to add to your current 3,000 and then purchase the Claymore and a Torch for 1,700 Souls. You are now left with 6,300 Souls.

>>3453321
I will mostly follow Dark Souls 3's weapons requirements and stats for a lot of mundane weapons in this quest.

You now walk to see the noble Servants after concluding business with Andre....
>>
>>3453341
The two Servants eagerly watch as you approach before giving a respectful bow.

"Greetings dear master. We have anticipated your rise in the cemetery after receiving premonitions. I am the butler Manfred." The man in garnet says.

"And I am the stewardess Lidiya. We have waited for your rise to offer our service." The woman in olive says.

"There is an upcoming Armageddon dear master. The premonitions showed us that you are the one who has the capability to stop it." Manfred tells you. "Our original master... The Great Sage Azalof, he is grasping at a power no one should have... Which is why we have abandoned him, and came to you."

"For untold aeons, Azalof has sought the power to control time itself, and it now is within his grasp after so long of searching for it. We fear that should he complete his invocation and gain this power, he could erode the world in ways previously thought unimaginable. We ask that you would stop him... by cutting away his sources of power... and killing him." Lidiya says

Demons infest the west and north, the Abyss is growing at an alarming rate in the southeast.... "Well sir, the Tsar sealed himself away inside the Grand Palace when the siege began, he was sickly and unable to battle. The whole of the palace grounds was locked down and heavily defended. Eventually the Catarinans were able to drive the Demons away with their cannons and muskets after the initial siege army had been worn down by Forossans and Astorans. The rest of the Boyars and aristocrats and military leaders simply stood by awaiting the word of the Tsar, but it never came and they spend the last score trying to keep the Demons at bay on Komor Mountain and the Abyss' spread minimal. For a while most thought it was manageable, so the support from Vinheim and Thorolund pulled out. Only a number of Catarinans stayed in Tisengrad because of royalties, most left, and the Astorans remained as tried and true allies but their numbers were far too few after the siege." Manfred says.

"The Imperial family may all be dead now in the Palace after so long. We are unsure what has since become of the foreign nations, though they may be experiencing the same rise of the undead because of the Age of Fire's closing." Lidiya speaks. "If your squire or horse were present during the siege, they could either be dead or alive. And the only living left in Forossa are in the village, dear master."

"O-oh, a... a Knight of Astora in the flesh! Ohhh... forgive me sire, I was but a common rabble once.... I used to be a militiaman, but I was useless. This town here... it's fading quickly.... everyday at least someone becomes Hollow and goes on a rampage... I... I put down all my weapons and left myself like this so I won't be able to hurt nobody when I go Hollow... I know it's coming..." He admits. "B-but.... until then, I like to grow the moss here... It may look like a sewer I know, but... it's actually a sprouting little garden of moss down there, and I cultivate it...."

The beggar is offering:

Bloodred Moss Clumps - 300 Souls
Purple Moss Clumps - 500 Souls
Blooming Purple Moss Clump - 1000 Souls
Charcoal Pine Resin - 500 Souls

You spent all of your Souls leveling up however, so you will need to come back another time to purchase his wares.

Stepping out into the town square, you see plenty of farmers and serfs. There are guards in chainmail and militiamen carrying whatever they can use as a weapon. They are all hopeless and you see four guards with simple short and broadswords burning a pile of Hollows, most of which used to be guards and serfs as well....

You approach the town hall and are initially stopped by two of the guards blocking the door with their halberds, but when they see you are a Knight, they wordlessly open the door. You enter and see a man on a small stone throne reading by the candlelight. He glances up at you before sighing.

"What a relief, a Knight instead of another upstart bandit here to make demands. Very well, you have my attention. I am Boyar Radomil, and I run this excuse for a village." The baron says.

"I assume you are some sort of helper from the heavens since all the clergy at the mission has done is pray without stop. Tisengrad is ruins now, and the vast majority of things that tread there are the undead soldiers and knights of the Tsar's army, and the foreigners. We have a major problem on our hands here besides people going Hollow eventually..." Radomil says as he produces an illustrious key of high quality ivory from his pockets.

"At the entrance to the Grand Palace, there is a gigantic bank of cannons and mortars brought by the Catarinan Colonel Vermi, who's policy of superior firepower helped drive away the Demon siege singlehanded all those years ago. Needless to say, the old bastard is Hollow now, which means his mind is gone if you weren't aware already... He mostly spends these days having fun launching mortars at our village, me thinks he still believes he's fighting the war against the Demons, 'cept he probably thinks WE'RE the Demons. Damn motor functions and all." He coughs in between sipping from a canteen. "If what you want is to help here, o' Knight, then take this royal key, go to Tisengrad, and kick that old coot's arse. He's already blew aboot' three of our shanty's to smithereens!" Baron Radomil finishes.

You receive the Royal Ivory Key. With it, you will be able to access virtually anywhere in Tisengrad, even the Grand Palace.

"Oh, and if ye' need some help, go ask about in the barracks. I'm sure Olli can help you out a bit. Furthermore, if ye' need to know aboot' somewhere here in Forossa, ask me, I've been all over in me' life." Radomil says before going back to reading his paper.

You exit the village through it's south gate and begin traveling by the road. It is not long before you reach the capital, which was only next door to the village.

Tisengrad... You have fond memories of this place. You remember the terrible fighting that took place here. Demons imbued with raging flames of all sizes infested the streets.... You and your comrades in arms chopping them down by the bushel while the thunderous booms of Catarinan muskets and cannons rang out. Fire consumed most of the city, which is apparent by the lack of any greenery on the ground for a long distance. Most buildings are in ruins...

BOOM!, you suddenly heard. You could see a great iron object in flames suddenly soar through the air before striking the wall of Bezopasnost village! There was a large explosion, and the wall was caught in flames that the villagers scurried to out with their pales of dirty water!

You now see the threat that the Hollowed Colonel Vermi posed with his cannons and mortars....

As you remember, there were three big districts to Tisengrad, a market district, a cultural district, and a living district. You were at the gate to the cultural district, from where the Grand Palace grounds could be reached. You do note however that the Grand Palace grounds only had one access, through a small fortress and tower built into the city, which was currently occupied by the Hollowed Catarinan army...

The city itself was infested now by the undead. You could expect to see many Hollowed city dwellers, Hollowed Forossan army soldiers, perhaps even a few Hollowed Astoran Knights.

Upon entering the gate, you see a massive lane leading to a square where Hollows roamed. You could try and fight your way through, or you could always try and find another way through the backstreets and shortcuts through buildings.

How will you approach this to reach the fort?

You see an item near the gate and pick it up. It is 7x Pebbles.

You dart over between some buildings and take cover near one of the watch towers. You throw a pebble at a Hollow from afar, gaining the attention of it and two others. They were scantily clad in tattered wool and had only daggers and pitchforks and the like.

When they come charging over, you slaughter them with your claymore without taking a single hit due to their slowed zombie-like movement. You gain 150 Souls.

Then, you hear the rattling of chainmail and turn to see a Hollowed Forossan soldier step out of a caved in hole in the watch tower. He is notably faster than the other Hollows and tries to attack you with a Bardiche polearm, but you are able to backstep and punish his swing easily, killing him in two hits.

Unfortunately, your fighting attracts the attention of a large cyclops that was scavenging the area! It stumbles over with it's club, ready to kill you!

You see a gate leading to the plaza on the run up to the fort some meters away at the end of the square. If you are fast enough, you could easily run under the Cyclops' attack and book it there. Alternatively, you could try and take the long way by going through the hole in the tower behind you, getting to the plaza by running along the wall, which quite a lot of Hollowed soldiers were present at, no doubt.

What will you do?

You awaken at the Bonfire in the alley of Bezopasnost Village, having lost your Humanity and reverted back to a near-Hollow state. You re-quip your brigandine and gauntlets, having enough Vitality to fast-roll with the full set and your Claymore, but no more than that.

Upon seeing you materialize at the Bonfire, the Moss Beggar reaches into his manhole and presents a gift to you.

"Ah! Sire Knight! I hope this isn't a bad time. Often, some things will wash up through the drains at my moss garden and I don't really have much use for them. I found this down there just the other day, perhaps it could be of use to you even if it isn't for me." The Moss Beggar says.

There is still the barracks and general store in the village you have not visited. But of course you could always continue on with your quest and go back to Tisengrad.

What will you do now?

Deciding to now to see what help the barracks could offer, you go over there and enter. There are few guards there, some drinking ale, some sleeping.

You notice a man in blue and white pants wearing only a helmet and bracers for protection at the end of the barracks, a rather massive Greataxe against his shoulder. He looks at you as you approach him.

"...." He regards you silently. "The men were not lying, a Knight of Astora.... I am glad to make your acquaintance at last then. I am Olli of Forossa, I am a warrior by nature, but I have since taken to following the path of the Sun, and am now a Warrior of Sunlight."

"Should you ever find yourself in dire times you need help in, use these." Olli says as he presents a set of items to you. "And should you ever see my symbol, don't hesitate to summon me. It would be an honor to lend a hand to someone who fought for my country once." Olli finishes.

"I... It's you! Ser Hannes! I... I can't believe it!" He clenches his chest.

"It's me! Wilbur! Your squire from knighthood! Do you remember me? Oh, it's been decades, I never died unlike the others here, but I fear I may soon Ser Hannes." He says. "I need a safer place than this hellhole of a village. Please Ser, tell me you know somewhere, anywhere better than this?"

You tell him of the Study at the Cemetery. He nods with relief.

"I see. A cemetery wasn't... exactly the place I had expected, but it also wasn't unexpected from you Ser, you were quite out there back in Astora. Very well, I will gather my things and immediately move there, unharmed hopefully." Wilbur tells you before going and beginning to pack his stock.

You use the Large Soul of a Proud Paladin to gain 1000 Souls.

You march back to Tisengrad and scan the area. You see the Cyclops is over by a building to the far left. You deduce that it has excellent hearing to make up for it's limited vision through one eye, which is most likely how it noticed you last you were here.

You see the second city gate in the district leading to the plaza on the run up to the cannon fort is only a quick jog away. There are still the matter of slow Hollows roaming around the district, but they could be passed and disregarded easily.

You can see the twin towers of the cannon fort leading into the Grand Palace over the second city wall. Your target was very close.

You see plenty of ruined buildings around the open area the Hollows walked in. You could either book it to the second city gate or sneak there.

You go through the collapsed buildings and are able to make it to the second city gate unnoticed. You come out and see a Bonfire, which you don't hesitate to light. There is an item near it, which you see is 1x Humanity. You use it, and summon signs appear around the Bonfire.

Ahead of you is the long plaza of the cultural district. There are various buildings around the oval shaped space, such as what used to be churches and schools and restaurants. One building in specific catches your attention. The Eleum Loyce Museum, a place where Eleum Loyce survivors would showcase relics of their old Kingdom's history in exchange for gold and rubles. Perhaps there could be good loot to find there....

Ahead of the plaza is the great stairway leading up into the Fort, and into the Grand Palace. You can spot many Catarinan Knights and Gendarmes wielding two handed swords and matchlock firearms along the Fort.

Will you use one of the signs or will you proceed?

Two White Phantoms appear from their summon signs then. A person wielding a Greatbow with the Silver Knight set and a witch with a Court Sorcerer's Staff. The Silver Knight does the Warcry gesture and the Witch does a Duel Bow. You wave back in return and then point towards the great stairway. The White Phantoms follow your lead as you approach the stairway....

As you approach the great stairway, a fog wall seals your party into the plaza...

"ACHTUUUUNG!" A loud and disgruntled voice rings out.

"AN INTRUDER APPROACHES! DEFEND THE PALACE FROM THE DEMONS AT ALL COSTS! CATARINA ABOVE ALL OTHEEEEERS!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54UfnrvjSh4

High above, you see a Hollowed man in trench coat standing on the top of one of the City Fort's towers. He looks down at you in disgust as the Hollowed Catarinan Gendarmes around him work to load their mighty cannons.

You see four Catarinan Knights in their onion-shaped armor marching down the great stairway to confront you as several line infantry stand at the top and load their rifles.

Silverado pulls back a lightning Dragonslayer arrow in his Greatbow and starts shooting at the gunners on their high ground. Arina pulls out a Priest's Chime and uses the Miracle 'Sacred Oath' to buff the whole group, she creates a Homing Soulmass and stays behind you.

What will you do?

Bravely, you steel your Claymore and run up the steps to meet the Catarinan Knights head on. Their Zweihanders hit hard, but they are too slow and so you are able to backstep and hit three of the Knights all at once. Your buff from Arina helps you quickly slay two, while Arina herself takes out the last with a Soulmass. The forth one at the top stairway falls to his death as one of Silverado's great arrows hit him from behind as he tries to attack you.

The line infantry run back to their Fort's towers and you stay in cover behind the last of the stairs.

Ahead of you are the two cannon towers. You see the entrance to the Fort's towers at the left. You can also see the noses of cannon barrels coming out of the tower's firing ports. They are ready to try and blast you the second you come into their range.

Silverado and Arina catch up with you and await behind you.

"What's the deal boss? Whatchu' want to do?" The silver knight asks, surprising you.

What will you do now?

You suggest that the witch Arina distract the cannons due to having the lightest load and highest stamina. The summoned phantoms look at you quizzically but go along with your direction.

The witch runs out to get the attention of the cannon crewmen as you and Silverado rush into the first tower. Outside, you hear a cacophony of explosions as dozens of cannonballs are fired. Unfortunately, the witch Arina is unable to dodge them all, and ends up dying to the flurry of cannon fire.

Inside the towers there are only a few Catarinan Knights who go down easily. The few soldiers with halberds and rapiers present some trouble however and end up forcing you to use two Estus Flask charges after sustained hits. Silver Knight Silverado sheaths his Greatbow and pulls out a Sunlight Straight Sword with which he proceeds to go to work on them with. The crewmen manning the cannons only have petty shortswords and are thus slaughtered in order.

You crossover now to the second City Fort tower and confront Colonel Vermi. The Hollowed officer draws his matchlock pistol and golden hilt rapier. The Landsknechts around the Colonel all ignore you and go after Silverado, who runs back down into the tower, leaving you and the Colonel alone to finish the fight.

The Colonel runs and leaps at you.

You can do many things. You could even try and parry the Colonel's midair thrust. What will you do?

As you roll through the bullet when the Colonel finally fires, you are able to finish him off with a strong attack as he took a long time to recover. A hit more hits and he falls to his knees, defeated.

"No.... The Demons... they've.... won....? Is the last thing he says.

You gain 7000 Souls, totaling 8000 since you used the Large Paladin Souls. You also gain 3 Humanity.

You acquire Soul of Colonel Vermi, worth 4000 Souls.

"In life, Colonel Vermi was known as a tactical genius of unparalleled intellect on the battlefield. He had never lost a battle for Catarina. When called to Forossa, it was his battalion's cannons and mortars that finally annihilated and drove the Demons away. Since then, he stood watch at his post until death. His whole battalion did, and even in death they still served."

Your summoned phantom Silverado vanishes. The rest of the Hollowed soldiers scatter and flee and you have spared Bezopasnost village from more damage by the mortar. The way to the Grand Palace is now clear.

With the Soul of Colonel Vermi, you could either create the Commission Rapier or Commander's Ring.

The Commander's ring grants a 7 point increase to Dexterity while the Commission Rapier is a fast weapon that deals 137 damage at base.
