This will be a fun quest that I'm hoping won't be just a one shot if there's enough interest!

You are a young man, who has the power over lost things! This power may not be much but you know that one day you'll be a member of the JUSTICE LEAGUE. Due to an influx of superpowered individuals wanting to join, the JLA has opened it's doors for a power showcase in order to see what you can do to be a member.

You enter the HALL OF JUSTICE and see that it is absolutely swarming with people. They're all wearing costumes and wearing numbers around their necks. You are AN IDIOT and you have come in your NORMAL CLOTHES. You also have NO SUPER HERO NAME.

You are handed a number by a flying yellow robot frantically moving around. Number 1408.

You see that your number even has your name on it, pretty swanky you think. You immediately rethink that when you see a lot of people have their superhero names in that place instead..

You decide to mingle with some of the competition to relax and gauge where you are.

Who do you mingle with?
>4 people wearing similar red leotards and green skin
>tall, blue alien Amazon-esque woman and a tiny guy sitting on her shoulder
>super confident guy in a crimson suit broken up only by a black belt, yellow chest mounted "C", and a domino mask
>a fellow failure wearing plain clothes as well

Any creative ideas how to use that ability? We probably could try and summon legendary weapon. Stolen=lost? Maybe we could retrieve stolen item. If someone is a lost cause could we control him?

We could look for a Fictional Item lost in the Multiverse.... Kick our powers to walk between Realities?

Look for Lost Places like Laputa, Atlantis, Avalon etc....

I wonder what looking for a Girls lost Virginity would do?
>>

>I wonder what looking for a Girls lost Virginity would do?
Terrifying thought. Taking control over lost virginity. Clearly power equal to the gods.
>>
>>3460003
the multiverse idea is good
places like the Silmarillion, Warhammer fantasy and other fantasies or sci-fy places are full of lost stuff ( if we go for the multiverse we can say fuck you to Feanor)
>>
>>3459870
But what conditions must be met for something to be considered 'lost'?

Lost to the owner? In someplace that nobody knows about? What exactly are we able to do with lost things? Summon them? Move them? Reshape them?

Is it no longer considered to be lost once there's an observer? If we summon a sword would we no longer be able to 'have power over it'?

I will sat that there will be no multiversal item grabbing, but once you see what you can do, you won't even care. I'm about to pick up my kids so I'll be back in thirty to post.

You walk over to the other failure and he gives you a nod as he notices you lean on the wall next to him, "Name's Grand Le Million. I see I'm not the only one here concealing my power level."

You chuckle weakly, "Yeah... I'm Bobby."

Grand laughs, "No hero name yet huh? No big deal, Grand is actually my real name. I'm the first meta-human in the family to be worth a shit and I already know that I got a place in the league locked down."

You almost don't believe it, this kid is pretty cocky and yet he's wearing sweatpants.

"Tell me Bobby what is it that you can do? I'll show you mine if you show me yours."

You ask him if he has any coins on him and he nods producing him a quarter. You mark it and ask him to throw it anywhere he'd like. Grand raises and eyebrow and throws it it hard as he can, it leaves flies through the open windows of the hall and is gone. Jesus he's strong. You open your hand and show him the quarter.

"Oh wow. Parlor tricks, huh?"

"No... uh it's.." Grand looks disappointed and gives you a fake smile.

"Don't worry about it. Buuuut let me show you a real power." Grand takes the quarter and it grows big enough to almost touch the ceiling. The room goes quiet as it finishes expanding and then returns to normal. People look in your direction and begin to whisper to each other.

"I can multiply anything's size and speed. I can shoot this quarter at light speed if I really wanted to. Hell, give me anything and I can make it into a lethal weapon. It's the result of my family's stupid useless powers pooling together into this opus magnum."

People begin to swarm Grand and ask him questions about his abilities and whether he'd want to partner up.

The roof of the hall opens and the FOUNDING MEMBERS enter. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, and Aquaman sit at the top of the platform with a other leaguers pouring in. You try not to shit yourself. Superman floats to the the mic set up and begins to speak, "Hello future heroes! We welcome you to the Hall of Justice, a place where we all hope you will come to see as your home and place of work. I see many bright and eager faces here today and some I recognize from your own exploits. Today will be the day to show us and the world what you've got! There will be two parts of the auditions, power demonstration and power application. Demonstration may suit those with powers that may not be combat pratical but useful for other areas of heroism. Application will be pitting talents suited for combat against each other in order to show off your moves and flexibility in high stress situations. Do not worry about winning, this is merely an expo for you to strut your stuff."

He spreads his arms in either direction, "Please follow Hall A to demonstration or Hall B to application now!"

Superman floats high in the air for all to see, "GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!"

>To be continued.

Alright guys that's it for tonight. Any questions for me or general discussion is welcomed.
>>
>>3460887
Kinda disappointing with the really short updates near the end, and the vagueness of our powers doesn't exactly inspire confidence. We roll good and almost set off a bomb on people? Did the character do it on purpose? Is it basically a roulette of shit we can pull out that we can't choose?
>>
>>3460925
Sorry about the short updates, kids are winding down for the night. And the powers will become less vague soon. This is all setting up the real plot to come so it's sorta on rails a bit before I really let you guys loose. It wasn't on purpose, the MC is just nervous and wanted to pull out all the stops without thinking. This is not a roulette kind of power. Just know it's called Worst Generation for a reason.
>>
>>3460925

I’m sure we’ll be able to fine tune it. We were just going big, as compared to the fine-tuned quarter trick. Speaking of which, imagine how much change you could summon up with this sort of power.

It looks like a bomb went off in here. Jokes aside, situation has escalated. People are being tended to and you have just finished being cleared of being a terrorist sneaking into the expo. The Leaguers retake their seats and begin a speech about mistakes and growth. They also warn that if you're not sure about your power then you should let them know beforehand. All eyes turn to you for a second and you look down at the floor. A few more contestants take their turns and you see the guy with the domino mask and crimson suit. He disconnects all of his body parts and floats around a little much to which the Leaguers smile and thank him for his performance. The other participants wrap up and Lantern stands at the podium.

"Thank you all for all your hard work today. Is there anyone we missed? If not, we will reconvene with the rest of the group and you can receive your results."

You spend the next hour waiting for your results. People are accepted left and right, some for urban rescue and some for low intergalactic exploration. Grand gets into justice league prelims. And they announce certain participants will be assigned to the Teen Titans. You listen and never hear your name.

"We will now list off those who will need to reapply for next admission period." Superman says before listing off the remaining names, yours not included, "That's all for now. Congratulations heroes to be and for those who did not make it this year, please don't be discouraged, we'll be here waiting for you."

People begin funneling into their appropriate areas and the rest begin to depart. You've been blacklisted. You didn't even get a courtesy fuck off... What the hell do you do?

I think what could've happened is that we just didn't have anything to focus in on, so our powers ended up just finding whatever, and we just got unlucky.

Alright, maybe you're better off elssewhere. Maybe you need to thrain your power more. Maybe you... Fuck this was supposed to be your moment! You turn to leave. As you exit the Hall, Hawkman and the founding members are talking to a small group. Upon seeing you they motion for you to come over. "You all have failed miserably. But we see much potential in your abilities. Hawkman here has proposed to take you under his wing and make a small group which he affectionately calls..." Batman trails off.

"The Worst Generation." Hawkman chimes in, "You guys will assist me against the forces the League doesn't deal with. I will say that dying is the least of your worries, think of yourselves as an offshoot of Justice League Dark and the Doom Patrol. If you don't make it, you didn't deserve to. Are you in?"

I failed my exams and everyone just saw me as a guy with wings. I had talents they couldn't test for just as all of you do. If you wanna leave, I won't stop you but I want to show you the world all of your true abilities. Worst Generation is the group I grew in and it gives those who usually don't get a chance the opportunity to be a hero. It's a legacy. You work harder than anyone else in the League and it pays off big time, and you gain valuable experience."

Just an advise: try not to railroad the quest into a prestablished goal, the best stories are those that happen naturally. Let the anons decide and they'll either give you a great plot in wich we succeed or a great side quest to solve the mess.

>>
>>3463286
The issue isn’t so much that you have plans and we reject them, it’s more that you allowed for variance in the path to the rails which make it a weird choice.
>>
>>3463299
Never said there was an issue, I allowed for variance for a reason, it gives men the idea of what direction you guys would like to go in and how you'd like the character to form personality wise. Think of how a tutorial works. Once it's over you can go any direction you'd like. I'm not gonna force you guys to do anything you don't want to because it's player-based. I'm not writing a story to be read, it's to be interacted with

>>
>>3463286
My bad, I missed the last part. Anyways, going solo (or with a cape team) is fun too. I'm not opposed to joining the justice league, but as I see it, this guys severely underestimated us/were afraid of us and tried to put us in a low tier team (no fame, no glory, not even recognition, just the jobs everyone else is too important to do) or an SCP Foundation kind of thing (dead or mad in the first 5 missions).

Honestly I could go either way, but opening up a detective agency, building a reputation, and occasionally seeing the Worst Generation and how they're doing sounds fun. Especially if we end up needing each other's help and have to begrudgingly work together.

You shake Hawkman's firm grip tightly but you shake your head. "I don't need you guys. Maybe I'll see you on the streets while I'm making a difference. Thanks for at least trying I guess?"

That came off a bit shitty, but you try to maintain face. Hawkman grabs you as you turn away and pulls you into a hug, "I know how you feel. You need to find your own way, but just know I'll always have an open door for you, son."

You walk down the steps of the Hall of Justice and end up on the streets of Capital City. You have a feeling of loss, but you wish to remain strong. In this moment, you take stock of yourself.

Your name is Robert "Bobby" Nickolas and you are PETTY, CHILDISH, AND EMOTIONAL. You have the power of MANIPULATION OF THE LOST and you are DEAD BROKE. Honestly, you had hoped to get into a team and finally make enough money to leave this pathetic waste of a life you have lived for the past 17 years and make something of yourself, but it seems as though you will have to make do here. Where on earth do you go from here?

Go to a library computer and look up cheap available offices available, and make our "Lost & Found" detective agency a reality.
>>
>>3463639
>>3463649
Lost and Found is probably the best to start out with. We can use our powers for a detective agency but being a detective covers a far wider range of tasks than just finding lost things (I'm guessing even moreso in DC land) which makes me think it can be the next step up when we have experience.
>>
>>3463665
Actually, starting out as a no-name private eye, chances are we'll get petty jobs that don't extend far beyond finding shit anyway so we can probably go for Detective Agency right off the bat.
>>

This, starting a detective agency is our long term goal. For now let's try to find some money.

Use the ability to find Lost money

Public library, yes. Magic money, no. There's no independent life option right now just due to the fact that we are young and that we have a place to live already. I'm not trying to lock up the decision, just trying to figure out real ways of doing what you guys want.

>>
Alright, clarification post guys. I never intended money to be a part of this quest. You should be able to use your powers anyway you'd like but you have to understand that using your powers as, give me all the lost money and books and study does kind of put the narrative in a weird spot. I am adaptable, but we're in uncharted territory and we gotta work through it together. I avoid money and jobs in quests because I find that people tend to spend a lot of time hoarding and saving than having fun. I like the detective angle, but what I'm basically saying is don't worry about money because I am going to try my damnedest to write around this. There is a reason that we don't hear about how superheroes make their money and/or living. HOWEVER, if you really want a money system in place and want to use money grabbing powers, I will put in the work and start a running tally.
>>
>>3463879
I’d be fine with hand waving the money making (being able to literally summon lost cash helps with the “realism” there), and just being a detective. But it’d be cool to eventually work our way up into looking for like, ancient doomsday artifacts and whatnot by way of reputation.
>>
>>3463879
Yeah I'm all up for not bothering with money. I'll still maintain my vote to look everything up. If we have a comp back home, don't even bother going to the library. We can break the news to our family while we're at it.
>>
>>3463879
I just wanna open the detective agency.
Anos are speaking in money because op said, the is not realistic to Bob open the agency in his condition.
>Reminder that you guys are 17, have no money, and live with your family.
>>
>>3463879
I'm fine without a money system, but I would like to know the limitations of the ability. Could we summon "Lost" souls or could we summon any of the texts that were in the Burning of The Library of Alexandria.
>>
>>3463901
You're right, I meant that more as in don't expect to get everything done quickly. We're taking the slow path basically.
>>
The power system has to change drastically. I didn't expect you guys to turn down superhero in favor of a more down to earth detective. In this line of work the power is more limited to "client wants X so you summon X." That's super difficult to write right off the bat. Not saying it can't be done but for now I'm going to have to build up the characters and the area we are going to live in now because the opportunities we have are more restricted than having a team and resources to take us anywhere we can go and have adventures that change locations. Your power is extremely flexible, but detective work is fairly straightforward if you catch my drift.
I left the powers vague simply due to the fact they'd be shown as naturally as possible and that they'd grow. Obviously, I can't just let you guys grab whatever you want right from the get go and I also don't want this to be heavily dice heavy. So here's what I can do for you.

POWERS LIMITATIONS:
-items must be lost
-items have to be (atm) not in anyone's possession
-items that have no owners (change on the street etc.) can not be summoned because they are just free to anyone, they are not lost
-mystical items are going to be a lot harder to summon due to the fact that even though no one knows where they are, doesn't mean they are lost

More abilities will come but they will come in time.
>>
>>3463919
Op why don't you put level up system in the power ?, because if the ability is strong like it appears to be , it's going to be a constant game broker.
>>
>>3463959
Looks good
>>
>go back home to your family
>>
>>3463901
Detective Agency might not be a good idea since if our power doesn't work on it then we need actual detective skills to find it.
>>
>>3464019
As long as you know that if someone is kidnapped or if something is stolen, it isn't lost. It isn't going to be a walk in the park
>>
>>3464019
It's important to not be extremely dependent of our power
>>
>>3464037
We can always go for Plan: Quarter in the Couch.
We summon change lost under and in furniture. We could easily make a $100 bucks in change with this. If not, than we can at least guarantee fast food and always having money for a payphone.
However, I prefer going superhero since that provides the highest level of opportunity to our career and it gives a lot of work experience for our superhero resume.
>>3464092
I understand, but we're 17 with no superhero work experience, no detective skills that I know of, and no funds to start up a physical business. If we go detective then we should start as an apprentice to someone with more experience.
>>
>>3464101
Those aren't technically lost since they're still in people's couches in their homes. And everyone would have to be onboard for superhero and I don't think that's gonna happen seeing how hard they worked for detective. Apprentice is a good idea but it'd have to be a non-JLA associated hero.
>>
Alright guys, there will be a revote tomorrow just so everyone knows.
>>
>>3464101
Already have a lot of capper super hero quest, the large part is boring, because the quest is basically power level. especially in a DC setting with every hero that matters is a god walking in the earth ( maybe this is the cause that a never see a god DC quest).
>>
>>3464161
Good* DC quest
>>
>>3464129

>>3464161
What about metahuman quest? DC quest was also good up to most of the second arc.
>>
>>3464197
It's not bad, but this quest fall in the problem of the Black slate mc, with makes all the relationships quest worse, because the mc don't have a personality.
>>
>>3464127
Then how did the Coin Trick work?

>>3464161
But our options are limited since we can't fund an agency and we'll have trouble finding a private detective that is all of these:
>non-JLA Associated
>consistently involved in solving exciting cases
>willing to offer us a job instead of an internship
>close to home

However if can't be a detective and really don't want to be a superhero we could always go for villain work.
>>
I'll be brutally honest, I'm not seeing this quest work with such vague and arbitrary powers. And going for a re-vote is basically a 'choose the right path this time' thing. Either make the 'lost' power a sub power of another ability like telekinesis or something, or just start off with a new quest and let the players choose a power set.
>>
>>3464494
Revote isn't "choose the right path" it's you have more information, how do you want to make your detective role work. Such as searching for a mentor and whatnot and not focusing on money.
>>3464161
This power will be broken but I have no intention of just getting to the point of walking god. I don't really see what's arbitrary. It's literally just trying to stop the story from becoming "gimme this, okay I got this"
>>3464255
There is a huge difference between a coin someone throws into the distance vs it being in their couch.
Also there are tons of heroes that aren't JLA. I have no idea why you're making a distinction between job and internship because that isn't how it works. It would be a partnership. And why does close to home matter?
>>
As for who to work under, I think the Question would be perfect.

>>
>>3464607
We, as the players, had no control over what we could 'find' when showing off to the Justice League. We rolled really good and nearly snackbared the fucking room with a mine. Our powers are either a crapshoot or the QM was conducting the railroad express.

If the QM wants to write a story, then he should just write a story without disguising it as a quest.
>>

You must be either new to the quest or didn't read very well. Try again and get back to me
>>
>>3464617

>>
>>3464613

When I think intern I think office helper who gets coffee, files papers, and does this all for work experience. Also close to home because it would cut down on travel costs, but I guess he could try to live in the office.
>>
Alright, let's hope this gets us in a better direction
Your brain goes in a million directions as you contemplate what paths you can take. Little do you realize, without even considering it, you are using your power. You were LOST in what do next, but you have FOUND the path meant for you. A detective, gumshoe, a private eye. How had you not seen this before? You had grown up idolizing heroes and you suppose that blinded you to the billions other careers out there that you could thrive in. You may still want to be a hero deep down but you bury it for now. You had been childish to a man that tried to help you and you regret it. However, he understood what you are going through now and it makes you want to become a better person that can be worthy enough to be acknowledged by not just him, but everyone. Maybe you're the one who can change the system, who knows? You're going to delve deep into the underbelly of this city and try to salvage whatever is left. But you're just a kid... You lose hope, but you quickly find it again. Reinvigorated as if by lightning. You need to partner up, find someone who is already in the mix and break ground. You also need to finally find a name and suit up, your identity will be key in keeping your loved ones safe and allow you safe passage when unmasked.

>go home and begin work on your new identity and design something to make you a little more ready for handling what whatever life may throw at you

Hopefully we can find the Question and work with him. He's a conspiracy nut and a bit paranoid, but he'd be the perfect mentor for learning how to be a gumshoe. He may also find our powers super useful if used right, and we could help him find clues to his own investigations.

And if he's in the JLA, he's still our best bet, and being the cautious guy he is, would like someone to help him that's outside of the league.

You can't wait. You pull out your phone and hit up some sites and image boards. You get mostly tacky Batman-watch tabloids and clickbait articles and the off Nightwing and Red Robin piece. Oh what a minute here, a very minimal site looking for those with the intellect to keep up and a propensity for puzzles. It's only link is a large question mark. You leaf through a couple conspiracy threads, seeing a few posting about a faceless man in downtown Capital City, seen muttering to himself and entering and leaving the abandoned buildings in the Crown-Hicks district. Finally you come across a craigslist posting reading:
Hey. If you can find me you might just be good enough to help me out. Detective work for the hire. DON'T TELL FRIENDS WHO DON'T HAVE MONEY. Susan, you birch...

You can't really believe that there's a faceless man wandering around close to home and you've never heard about it before, and that's exactly why you're going . A detective needs to keep an open mind after all. You had a buddy live in the Crown-Hicks district so you knew the way well enough, but it looks so different from what you remembered as a kid. The streets had trash strewn about and the only foot traffic you could discern is the few people who hoof it through here to get someplace else. Most building and businesses here looked abandoned so you have your work cut out for you for sure. You take a closer look at your surroundings and note a couple lights here and there in the higher floors. Possibly worth looking into if you're in the business of knocking on doors. Two bums or mumble to each other a little ways down the street, You can't make them out very well due to the night though. Weirdly enough there are no vehicles. At all. None parked, none driving, none. The street lights are iffy at best giving only dim illumination from about a two foot radius, and even then the working ones are few and far between. You hear sounds, but there are so many alleyways and dead end streets, it's hard to pinpoint the source of it.

You head down the alleyway closest to you and continue for two long minutes before you feel like you've made the wrong choice. The night has gotten a bit colder and it now matches with your own body temperature, removing any sensation you may have had from the slight differences usually afforded. You are completely unarmed, but you've been trained by your dad. Doesn't hurt that your also in above average shape from training extra hard for your JLA debut expo. However, you suddenly feel naked, as if you're being scoped out by someone somewhere. Forming your lips to whistle, you stop short. That isn't what detectives do, and this is definitely not the time or the place to make yourself known. You pass a warehouse and hear the muffled sound of talking. Upon listening further, you're able to make out two distinct female voices and a third voice seemingly coming from an electronic source, presumably a radio. You stand on a nearby drum and are able to look in and see them. With the window leading to a platform above them you could probably sneak in with relative ease and get some good intel. Maybe they know the faceless man? You look down the street you were treading not long ago and you feel like you see a small figure standing over a body, further down. They are occupied enough that they don't recognize that they're being observed. You need to make a decision quickly.

You walk with a confidence that shrinks exponentially with every step you take toward the figures. You're closer, but you still have yet to be found out. You slink behind a worn green dumpster and climb in when you realize that it is basically empty. You do this because you actually have made out the scene. This person can be no taller than five feet. They are wearing a tight black catsuit with quarter sleeves and high rise pants. Combat boots with metal soles glint from the moon. Tight gloves are holding a knife with a grip as long as its arm, and the figure's face is turned away. Some sort of mask is covering it and the to protrusions at the top bring about devil like imagery. Unfortunately, as unnerving as this person may be, the gore and viscera surrounding them was much much worse. At least 10 people worth of... meat was strewn about. Chunks and pieces indicated a higher amount than you personally felt comfortable with. The bladed weapon was dripping with blood but the bodies seem as though they exploded from the inside out. The body you saw on the ground from further away was no body at all, but a person who would soon become just another body in the pile.

"The Black Hand?" the man was able to query through labored breathing.

The figure knelt down, its knee almost touching the ground. It shook its head wildly and waited as if it expected another guess to follow. You can only guess at what face the man was making as the seconds ticked by, stretching infinitely. The figure, content with the belief that no more words would uttered, slowly entered the knife into the man's chest. The act so tender and graceful that you were nearly taken aback. The man's torso erupted violently, an omnidirectional explosion of the chest kind. You slink down in the dumpster and hear the forceful wet slaps against the sides.

Not a write in option guys, you want to revote?

Well fuck me for writing in an option that works with our 'powers' and trying to play it smart. So no, I won't be revoting. Enjoy your railroad.

See ya. Just a little information for everybody, I will put in a write-in option when it's time for one. Please don't complain like this guy who has no idea what he's talking about or how quests work. Thank the rest of you for your understanding.

Well tried to give it more time.
You wait nervously for the figure to pass. Without revealing yourself, you're able to get more details. The mask is that of a rabbit, an abstract rendition of one, but a rabbit nonetheless. You're pretty certain that this is either a well-trained child or a very squat adult. The tight bodysuit doesn't reveal much, being pitch black in a dark alley doesn't help. However, it lets you know one thing, that knife is the only thing that its carrying. You saw no strength or speed feats so you're unsure of its combat prowess or whether or not it is a metahuman or not. The dead bodies do speak volumes though. You have no idea if it is actually a villain or not, this is a bad neighborhood, abandoned in pretty much every sense of the word. Hell, emergency services don't even respond to places like these. This could be a make it or break it moment for you. What is the best course of action.

>trail the figure
>investigate the "bodies" for clues to its nature
>continue the Faceless Man search down the alley
>double back to the warehouse window
